Yeah.

Speaker 2 (01:52):
He was a cheerleader, yes, and you were a football player. Yeah,
so he made fun of him probably.

Speaker 3 (01:57):
Well he was the wildcat, so yeah, he was the
I didn't know that he was the mascot. I thought
he was like the guy at the bottom of the pyramid.
You're telling you he was the wildcat Wildcat.

Speaker 5 (02:07):
I don't think he ever told me.

Speaker 4 (02:08):
I didn't know that either, And also joined us this morning,
ladies and gentlemen, the birthday.

Speaker 5 (02:13):
Boy Mario Maitland.

Speaker 2 (02:15):
It's today's his birthday.

Speaker 3 (02:19):
Oh, I thought that was Cam Newton.

Speaker 6 (02:22):
Cam Newton.

Speaker 5 (02:22):
Yeah, there we go.

Speaker 6 (02:23):
That's a better to.

Speaker 3 (02:23):
Start wearing clothes like Cam Newton does. Dude.

Speaker 6 (02:26):
Oh with the hats. I couldn't pull off the cowboy hat.
I couldn't do it.

Speaker 2 (02:29):
You got the fit.

Speaker 6 (02:30):
I have to fit. It's a little birthday fit.

Speaker 4 (02:33):
So we wish you a very happy birthday coming out
and which Mario a happy birthday. So listen, guys, we
got I mean, we've already talked about it on the
pre show. But the number one topic, and it's my
favorite topic of the week, maybe my favorite topic of
the month is the little dance as you called it
between Mark Pope and Pat Kelsey that happened a couple
weeks ago. So if you don't know the story, Jacob
Polachick from KSR on three Sports kind of broke the

(02:54):
story that a couple of weeks ago, at midnight the
recruiting period it opened, like maybe it was like September second,
September third, at midnight the recruiting period opened. So Taylor
Kenny is this kid from Newport, Kentucky that has now
playing for Overtime Elite in Atlanta. Six seven six seven
six seven, I had take Kenny. So Mark Pope had

(03:16):
a schedule visit at twelve like oh one, like a
minute after midnight. Pat Kelsey had a scheduled visit like
at twelve fifteen, like right after that. So they want
to get in first to the turn of midnight. Well,
the story goes that Mark Pope was running a little late.
Shannon and I figured they must have got caught in
Mount Vernon travel.

Speaker 5 (03:35):
That happens. I was only two hours late for my
show on Double Q yesterday, so it happens, I understand.

Speaker 4 (03:40):
So since Mark Pope was late, Pat Kelsey was already there.
Kelsey kind of cut the line.

Speaker 6 (03:46):
You can't do that.

Speaker 2 (03:47):
Cutter cut her peanut butter cut right in front of him.

Speaker 5 (03:50):
That's the third time we've already heard that this morning.

Speaker 2 (03:51):
That's what we used to say it, sire.

Speaker 4 (03:55):
And then So when Pat Kelsey came out, Pope and
Pat Kelsey, as you called it, Jeff and Dance dance,
they had had words, did not get physical, they did
not put hands on each other. All those reports were ridiculous.
Take Kenny's dad did not get out and separate him.
As a matter of fact, I think the report I
heard from Jackie Pilgrim's point, and they may have even
hugged it out and it was over.

Speaker 2 (04:16):
I don't want Tom hugging it out.

Speaker 4 (04:18):
I want him leaving it, driving off and pointing at
each other and telling each other who's number one.

Speaker 5 (04:22):
So when Pat Kelsey hugs Mark Pope, he just hugs
his waistline, I guess.

Speaker 3 (04:26):
So. So if any you know, you know I thirty
one years I was in Cincinnati and used to do
Xavier basketball, and I knew Pat when he played actually
high school ball was Ole High School in Cincinnati, and
then when he was at Xavior when Skip Prosser was
the coach. Yeah, and Pat Kelsey is one of the
great kids. I call him a kid. I'm sixty three

(04:46):
years old, so I'm allowed to call him a kid,
but just one of the great guys in sports. He's
a wonderful motivator, he's a sensational coach, great recruiter, he's
everything you would want. And it's almost like what Mark
said Stoops when Louisville hired Brahm, he was like, oh,
I like Jeff. He's a really good coach. Pat is

(05:09):
a really likable person. Now that being said, Mark is
kind of the same way. Yeah, great guy, wonderful person,
great recruiter. But there are rules in the recruiting game
and you just can't break those type of rules. And
Pope had the first, you know, twelve o'clock. He was
supposed to be ill to be there, Kelsey, and then

(05:30):
we're sitting in the car outside, looked at his watch
at twelve o'clock. I don't see any blue bandwagon here.
Let's go boys, and in they went. Hey, I got
handed to him. Now, what Mark says is he thinks
he got in there before midnight, which is a violation.
So that's the gray area, that's a bigger That's where
Kelsey was like, no, no, no, no, no, we weren't. You

(05:51):
weren't here at twelve o'clock. Our watch at twelve o'clock,
we went to the door. So that's kind of the
gray area and where all the infighting starts. But it
makes a great story for you guys that the guys
in Louisville that are the Redbird Reporter where ever heck
those guys are. So it's just gonna be in. The
fans love it, love it.

Speaker 5 (06:12):
And we need to get back to where we were
with Caliperi and Patino, when those guys were just at
each other. It's more fun for the fans, it's better
for the robbery. But everything you said just made me
like Pat Kelsey, I'm trying to hate the guy had
and whether of these guys just have a likable personality.
They're kind of goofy, they're light hearted. So that's the
complete opposite what we had with Patino and Caliperi.

Speaker 6 (06:34):
Man I thought, honestly, I've seen so many stuff on
social media with you know, Mark Pope hugging Pat Kelsey
and he's kind of like sunning him a little bit,
you know, palm in his head and everything like that.
I wish it was true, Like I wish they actually
did get in the scuffle. Obviously they did it, so
you know, I like to see their kind of you know,
going back at each other a little bit. It's good.
It's not where we really want it to be, but

(06:55):
it's headed and right.

Speaker 5 (06:56):
When you say there are rules, is that like an
unwritten rule or are their actual rules?

Speaker 3 (07:01):
Well, and you know, I was just gonna ask you
guys what you thought about that. I think it's the
unwritten We were supposed to be first, you know, you
weren't supposed to be there to twelfth.

Speaker 5 (07:09):
See. Now, look, if it's unwritten, I'm saying rules like
that could be broken.

Speaker 3 (07:13):
What's the difference. You're still gonna give him your speel?

Speaker 5 (07:17):
You are? You are, But it's probably midnight is getting late.
He's like, I don't want to be here all night,
so he just goes right on in. I don't know.

Speaker 4 (07:23):
I mean, so Shannon brought this point up on the
pre show. What if the roles were reversed and Pope
cut the line in front of Pat Kelsey, We'd all
be like, Yeah.

Speaker 2 (07:31):
That's good coaching. It's a great job. Out of my
way to be assertive, way to you know, be forward thinking.

Speaker 3 (07:37):
Watch the kid go to North Carolina or something.

Speaker 4 (07:41):
This is like the big leader right now here with
our final But I'm with you, guys. The rivalry we
need this. I don't want to like Pat Kelsey, then
we don't want to. I don't care if it's a
nerd fighter, geek fight, or whatever.

Speaker 3 (07:51):
I need this.

Speaker 6 (07:52):
So why Kansas, though I know that he's the leaderboard.

Speaker 5 (07:54):
Probably the end I all has a lot to do
with that. I don't know that they have significantly more
I need to offer the Kentucky or Lobell does. But
that always factors in.

Speaker 4 (08:03):
Yeah, they offered him more money. They're in Adida school,
indeed school and overtime elite.

Speaker 2 (08:09):
Yeah, makes sense.

Speaker 5 (08:10):
By overall takeaway on it is, though, if it's an
unwritten rule and Mark Pope's not there, I don't know.
If we took the names out of the scenario and
I'm there and the other coach isn't, I'm probably gonna
walk on in too. You know. It's like, well, if
you don't like it, don't be late. Exactly.

Speaker 4 (08:25):
I agree, but you cast so you called it a dance.
It's kind of I guess Miller a little bit of
an argument, But I think not only does the fan
base need it, I think the announcers need it.

Speaker 2 (08:35):
We need that.

Speaker 4 (08:36):
Not we don't want to like him. He's been lik
him up to this point. I don't want you.

Speaker 2 (08:41):
He's a how he likes somebody cuts cuts line man,
No way like that.

Speaker 5 (08:44):
Pope wasn't there though. That's the problem. Pope wasn't there.
It's not like there. It's not like there. Here's here's
take Kenny's apartment door, and there's a line, and there's
Mark Pope, and there's all these other people. And then
Pat Kelsey just went up and opened the door and
walked in. Pope wasn't even there though. That's the that's
the thing. I think that's what makes it different.

Speaker 4 (08:59):
You know, for a long time, Kentucky and Louisville were
probably the leaders for this kid, and he grew up
in Newport and then he's played for Overtime and lead
the last two years. Kansas kind of snuck in and
got him. Yet, you know what I mean, Pope's not
gonna give up and quit recruiting.

Speaker 2 (09:12):
The kid. Does this? If you're a recruit, does it
make a difference?

Speaker 4 (09:15):
It off you look at your living room window and
there's two coaches pointing their fingers and arguing with each
other out here out in your driveway.

Speaker 3 (09:21):
I actually would think, how would you feel? I mean,
if you're coaches, you said to look and you're like, damn, somebody.

Speaker 5 (09:33):
If you're in your apartment, you look out and there's
two beautiful women that you love and they're both arguing
over you. Right, I'm sitting my popcorn makes me feel special.

Speaker 4 (09:45):
I'm sitting no matter what, my popcorn watching it go happening.
But if you're a recruit and you look at your window.

Speaker 6 (09:50):
I'm loving it. Two coaches fighting over me, I think
so too. Oh yeah, I'm that dude.

Speaker 5 (09:55):
The beggar takeaway is now we at least have a
little bit of fire between these two coaches, and that's
the thing I think that this rivalry needed. And if
it comes down to one person cutting in front of
another to get that spark going that, I'm for it.

Speaker 4 (10:05):
And we're talking about two teams that Jeff Goodman said
earlier this week, Final four bus kind of for both program.
I mean, both teams are gonna be really really good
this year. And Kentucky's got.

Speaker 2 (10:13):
To play at Louisville in early November.

Speaker 3 (10:15):
Before the football game, Before the football it was the
basketball game.

Speaker 2 (10:19):
You got it? Not like that?

Speaker 3 (10:20):
That's no. I I think it's really weird the way
that the fall schedules are set up because look, football
is a beast all across the country. Basketball is a beast. Ok,
why would you overlap those? Why can't you just back
that up two weeks until football ends and then basketball.

Speaker 5 (10:40):
Polk lames Kelsey. So maybe there's another thing you know,
got just nudge at the other one.

Speaker 4 (10:45):
So we're gonna be here at Wild Eggs. We're getting
a lot of free food to get a free gift
card to give away. Look at Travis, you see him.

Speaker 6 (10:51):
Look a couple.

Speaker 4 (10:52):
You said, free food, free gift cards that you can
buy the food with Travis. That's a big way to
do it. We've got a big gift basket here. If
you order an entree, you get in the running for
the big gift basket. We got Eric Church tickets to
give away a lot. I do need to say if
we go to break Drew was gonna try to make
it today. He was a strong Maybe he woke up
this morning. Hearts still hurting. If if you have Instagram,

(11:12):
go to what Drew posted on Instagram yesterday about his
buddy Manning that passed away. It's it, it'll if you
don't tear up, get you some clean exit before you
read it. But uh, it's just a great testimonial to
a dear friend who passed away way too early, way
too young. So drew since his regards. Sorry he couldn't
make it, but we I know, I expeak for everybody.
We all completely understand. He's got to take care of himself.

(11:35):
So all right, well take our break, come back, go
to the phone lines eight five nine two eight two
two eight seven. This is Kenteky Sports Radio. All right,
welcome back Kentucky Sports Radio live from Wild Eggs in
Tates Creek.

Speaker 2 (11:48):
This is their new location.

Speaker 4 (11:49):
They're located by the neighborhood Walmart here in the Tates
Creek area. And now they're a third location. They've got
one Hamburg, they've got one of Palomar. Now this one
of Taates Creek. This is probably maybe their biggest one.
Is this your biggest one?

Speaker 6 (11:59):
Travel us?

Speaker 2 (12:00):
I think? Then they got a big nice bar here, got.

Speaker 3 (12:02):
The garage dooral Crotch stores and all school.

Speaker 2 (12:04):
Is that right behind us.

Speaker 4 (12:05):
So so come on out and join us this morning
or whenever it's breakfast, brunch and lunch with a bar.

Speaker 5 (12:10):
That's right, Wold egg, I didn't know this place existed
until this morning. I went to the wrong location. You
know that, like two minutes before the show started.

Speaker 6 (12:18):
How did you go to the wrong location?

Speaker 2 (12:19):
I don't know.

Speaker 5 (12:20):
I mean we don't have communicator. I mean we're communications business,
right company, and we don't communicate. Nobody told me where
to go, so I just assumed it must be where
we did the last one at. But I was wrong.
I walked in there and she looked at me, like,
no show here.

Speaker 4 (12:34):
We only said it on the show this week four
or five times, but you.

Speaker 5 (12:40):
Got to keep in mind, I don't live in Lexington,
so when you say Tate's Creek, that doesn't mean anything.

Speaker 3 (12:45):
This morning.

Speaker 5 (12:49):
What time did I'll leave seven o'clock this morning? Yeah?

Speaker 4 (12:52):
Well, we've got some specials on the fall Men. We
got pumpkin pie pancakes and apple cider mimosas.

Speaker 2 (12:58):
If you want to come on.

Speaker 5 (12:58):
Are we doing a in case when you're drinking?

Speaker 4 (13:01):
We're supposed to do a pancake flipping contest with Mario
back in the kitchen.

Speaker 6 (13:05):
Win it. I'm winning. I'm the best cook out of
everybody on it.

Speaker 5 (13:08):
So have you been a cook at a restaurant before? Mario?

Speaker 6 (13:11):
Have I been a cook rest the rut.

Speaker 5 (13:13):
Yeah no, okay, Ryan, I assume you haven't.

Speaker 2 (13:16):
I have not, but I am an excellent cook.

Speaker 5 (13:18):
Okay, Well we'll see who wins that later on today.

Speaker 4 (13:20):
Then from Navy's a glass text machine. The Pope versus
Kelsey thing is funny. Now, what if it was Matt
Jones versus Captain Sontan. What would Matt have done?

Speaker 6 (13:27):
Oh?

Speaker 5 (13:28):
Wow, well take a picture of it. He would have
taken a picture of him.

Speaker 2 (13:31):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (13:32):
I mean those two have had their run ends over
the years. They have, but on TV and level right, Yeah,
John Ramsey, Yeah Ramsey, Yeah. I think Ramsey challenged Matt
to a fight. He did one time. I think Matt
backed down from that. I don't think that wanted to
fight anybody, but I would like to see it though.
I don't think that robbery really exists anymore. Though, kind

(13:53):
of it kind of died down.

Speaker 4 (13:55):
We've got a lot of football stuff we want to
get to with Jeff since he's here, but I kind of.

Speaker 3 (13:58):
Want to talk more about Captain sunt.

Speaker 2 (14:01):
Henderson.

Speaker 4 (14:02):
One time in the press boxing at Kroger Field, he
got a little icy really between the two guys. Yeah, Matt,
I'm go give him at credit. He was completely innocent.

Speaker 2 (14:12):
He was not.

Speaker 4 (14:14):
I I'm sure he's completely right there.

Speaker 5 (14:18):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (14:18):
No.

Speaker 5 (14:20):
The crazier thing for me, though, is, you know, back
in the early days of KSR, Matt had his list
of enemies and he would go with the room every
day and just whatever the topic was, it was just
Jeff Goodman's fault. It was Jeff Goodman's fault every day.
And now Jeff Goodman works under the same umbrella o
KSR with on three. So now those guys are buddies
all these years later.

Speaker 4 (14:37):
But Patino came back on the show. They kind of
made nice nice. Jeff Goodman's made nine nice.

Speaker 5 (14:41):
I guess we all get older and a little more
soft over the years because he doesn't have those those uh.
I guess Rovalry is on in through media anymore like
he used to.

Speaker 3 (14:50):
Wow.

Speaker 4 (14:50):
So this on the Avis and Glass text Machine asked
Jeff about the music at kroger Field. Pacoro even said
during the broadcast, what is this yacht rock? Return to
the music in Crokerfield.

Speaker 3 (15:02):
The thing that kills me is before the game. If
you're a player and you're getting ready to come out,
what do you want? I want you know, flirting with disaster.
I want something that's gonna charge you up right at
you pulling that out out of Floyd. I want something
like that where I'm getting ready to run through a wall, right,

(15:23):
you know what? We play a Kentucky You're like, yeah, yeah,
through the hills of Kentucky all the way from Ashland
and you're like, what is this?

Speaker 5 (15:32):
Somebody reading poetry?

Speaker 3 (15:33):
Yes, and it.

Speaker 6 (15:35):
Goes on.

Speaker 3 (15:37):
All roots lead to lex.

Speaker 4 (15:41):
And the players are like, yeah, well, we've talked about this.
They need to play the music that the players want
to hear. And you know, Myrios talked about this, you know,
the hip hop, the rap music, the they.

Speaker 6 (15:56):
Don't even got to be hip hop. Is this something
that you got it?

Speaker 4 (15:58):
Like?

Speaker 6 (15:59):
That's that? Pump them up, get them going, get the
student section like riled up.

Speaker 3 (16:02):
But it was yacht rock right, they were playing some
it was Christopher Cross or something.

Speaker 6 (16:07):
I'm like, what is this?

Speaker 4 (16:09):
Well they always mix in a cotton eyed Joe, which
is fine, but they always mix in uh walker.

Speaker 3 (16:15):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (16:16):
If that's after the game though, I think it's okay.
I'm talking about before the game especially, and then end
the game too, So.

Speaker 4 (16:22):
What can what can you talk you do about This
has been a theme for many years, but it really
kind of come to a head this year.

Speaker 2 (16:27):
What can they do?

Speaker 6 (16:27):
You know what else?

Speaker 3 (16:28):
I hate? I hate it every time I've been especially
basketball games done done dum eighties Hey, and I'm like.

Speaker 5 (16:43):
What it's got this crowd going.

Speaker 3 (16:45):
And then when they do that thing where they they
just make a pyramid standing there the cheerleaders, it's like
the greatest thing in the history of crazy. They played
two thousand and one a space outly because they're holding
a flag.

Speaker 4 (16:58):
Yeah, and you're like, well, this, so, what can we
do at Crogerfield to help?

Speaker 2 (17:03):
Do you have any ideas?

Speaker 5 (17:04):
Get a better playlist?

Speaker 3 (17:05):
See, you're trying to get me in trouble.

Speaker 2 (17:07):
Okay, take your JMI hat off.

Speaker 3 (17:09):
I can't though what you take that Kentucky hat off,
because the administration of Kentucky, I think, is the one
that says this is what we're doing.

Speaker 2 (17:16):
Well the rumor and I also believe this.

Speaker 4 (17:19):
I think most people feel like it's gotten better to
the game the last much.

Speaker 3 (17:23):
Could you imagine if he was running it.

Speaker 5 (17:24):
Well, Matt has said that for years and he just
lets Shannon do it. Hey, I mean I've already got
seven other jobs. Why not, Hey, money talks.

Speaker 3 (17:32):
They'll pay you like they pay me twenty five bucks
a game.

Speaker 5 (17:34):
Jami, Kentucky, whoever you are, whoever's listening out there for
the right price, Yeah, I'll come, I'll come to Krogerfield.

Speaker 4 (17:39):
Well, the best Jeff Piccarel is when Jeff Picarel takes
off his broadcaster hat and wears his Kentucky hat, and
you can tell you as as if you become a
fan sometimes during the broadcast.

Speaker 6 (17:49):
I love that.

Speaker 2 (17:50):
I love that when you become Jeff the fan.

Speaker 3 (17:53):
I just think for me growing up, the guys that
I like, the Harry care He's the the Summer Alls
and guys like that. Just it was like two of
us sitting at the bar watching the game on TV.
And that's the way, because look, I could sit out
there and tell you, guys, they're running cover seven and
they're doing a double roll up zone, and they're bracket
and there's and everybody's gonna be sitting going hell.

Speaker 5 (18:16):
The average fan has no idea what that is.

Speaker 3 (18:18):
Nobody wants to hear that. All they want to hear
is Shannon missed that block and that's why that guy
is on a Gurney being taken off the field. You know,
that's that's all.

Speaker 4 (18:27):
Some of the best Jeff of Coral though, is like
during the commercial break, that's when fan Jeff really comes out.
Sometimes you get happy, you get frustrated, just like we do.

Speaker 3 (18:36):
So happy they don't have the old sub when there's
that called on the satellites, Like.

Speaker 5 (18:44):
There used to be feeds back in the day where
you have the giant satellites and you could, you know,
just go around on your on your TV channels and
you would find a feed that was live. Even when
it was off the air. You can still hear what
the commentators were saying. And this is like an old
nineties thing. I don't think. I don't know that he
still existing, yes, but yeah, if they had that.

Speaker 3 (19:02):
Well it existed in Cincinnati when I was there. He
still doesn't have a job, but oh no he is.
He's on wlw R.

Speaker 2 (19:09):
Yeah that's right, Toman, Yes, I didn't know that.

Speaker 3 (19:11):
Yeah, that was interesting.

Speaker 4 (19:13):
Before we really get into the weeds about football and stuff,
what are your thoughts about what you've seen just so
far the first three games.

Speaker 3 (19:22):
I'm very disappointing, and Brad will be the first one
to tell you, the defense I thought was going to
be fantastic, and I think in the first three games
it hasn't been. Yeah, and I'm like, wow, what's the problem.
And DJ Wallers was playing great. He'll probably play next week,
I hope. But you know, he's cornerback and they're getting

(19:45):
killed on the outside because they know that ter Ryan
and some of the youngers that are playing at their corner,
they don't want to get beat deep, right, So they're
eight yards off the ball and what's killed Kentucky six yards?
Stop turn around and misstap And that's all ole Miss does.
I mean, Ole Miss's whole game is just a little
five six yard passes and hope that one out of

(20:07):
every eight of those they're gonna break it and it's
gonna be a what coach calls a chunk play. But
to me, the defense just hasn't lived up to what
I thought it was going to be. I think Zach
tries to be too perfect when he's out there. He
wants to perfect.

Speaker 2 (20:22):
Play yeah, safe.

Speaker 3 (20:25):
Yeah, yeah, And again cutter Is it's just seems so
much more comfortable now, bigger, stronger his second year in
the offense. I think he knows it pretty well, and
you saw there were he only twelve passes, but two
hundred and forty yards, So that means he's going down
the field. And that's exactly what this offense needs because
now the safeties can't play eight yards off the ball

(20:45):
if you're going down the field, They've got to play
twelve to fifteen and that opens up the running game.

Speaker 5 (20:50):
Do you feel like this is Cutter's job to lose
at this point in the season with Cals out of
still nursing that injury, or do you think that maybe
stupids You want me to.

Speaker 3 (20:58):
Answer this with a Kentucky hat on or as a broadcaster.

Speaker 5 (21:00):
Just honest, I really, honestly as you can.

Speaker 3 (21:03):
I really think that when you spend seven figures to
bring someone in, that person's gonna get every chance to fail.
And I think that's in every sport now in college
and it's unfortunate. But if I'm the coach and I'm
looking at the production, I get and again, you have
to you have to temper it a little bit because
it's Eastern Michigan. Hell, we could take nine of you

(21:24):
guys and us up here and beat Eastern Michigan. But
you know, let's see what happens.

Speaker 2 (21:30):
Look you're looking at here.

Speaker 3 (21:32):
Look that's my left tackle. He's my right guard. Yeah yeah,
uh tight end.

Speaker 2 (21:38):
Right.

Speaker 3 (21:38):
There's even got a Red's head on, so I know
he's a big fan.

Speaker 5 (21:41):
But even if Cutter maybe looks better than Calasada, you
think that he's still gonna stick with Calzada because of
the nil money and he being the guy that you
brought in originally to b QB one.

Speaker 3 (21:53):
Well, it's really interesting to me with this program that
they can't manufacture a quarterback, right. Yeah, this is the
fifth straight year they've had a.

Speaker 4 (22:03):
Different transfer in a ya and they spend a lot
of money on Larry Calzada.

Speaker 3 (22:09):
Yeah, And and Cutters a guy that's from here. He's
been here since he's a freshman. He's getting getting into
it and he's playing better. I go with the hot
hand until he falls on his face. You know, you've
always got Zachness the backup.

Speaker 2 (22:20):
I go with the hot hand and just run with him.
If your quarterback, that's the thing.

Speaker 5 (22:23):
If you're calling him your quarterback of the future and
you truly mean that, yeah, then show him that and
give him that.

Speaker 3 (22:28):
If you're only going to win and again coming into
the season. A lot of people are saying four or
five wins. If you'll get win four or five, then
get some young kids in there who are.

Speaker 5 (22:35):
Going he's got out to throw everything he's got against
the wall.

Speaker 4 (22:41):
All right, we are live Wild Eggs out here in
Tates Creek. It's the new Wild Eggs location. They've got
one out Hamburg, one in Palomar, and now they've opened
this one appear in Tates Creek.

Speaker 2 (22:48):
Coming out.

Speaker 4 (22:48):
Got a great crowd and the food is fantastic if
you won't be disappointed, So we'll take our break. Come back,
Ryan Mario, the Birthday Boys, Shannon and Jeff Picarol Kentucky
Ports Radio. All right, welcome back Kentucky's Ports Radio live
from Wild Eggs in Tates Creek. Of course, Wild Eggs
is the official breakfast of KSR. Breakfast, Bunch and lunch
with the bar of Wild Eggs. Will come on out
and join us. We'll be out here for the rest
of the day, well the rest of until till noon.

Speaker 5 (23:09):
Speaking to yourself, you can stay at her all day
if you want it.

Speaker 6 (23:12):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (23:12):
I love them, I love their workers, I love Travis
and Scott. Then run the place. Josiah works at Wild Eggs.

Speaker 6 (23:18):
Who doesn't like Wild Eggs.

Speaker 4 (23:19):
But there is one of their servers walking around wearing
a Louisville shirt.

Speaker 6 (23:24):
What I did see that? Wait?

Speaker 4 (23:26):
You see when he comes back out, we all have
to boom him. And here's the catch. His name is
Sam Mitchell. It's Mary Joe Pirino's son. What marry Joe
Ford her son walking around with the Louisville shirt on?
Back here, So when he walks out, we'll all boom
when he comes he think he's back in the kitchen.

Speaker 3 (23:43):
Right now, Shannon's got a Louisville shirt on.

Speaker 2 (23:46):
Double Q. It's not a Louisville shirt.

Speaker 6 (23:51):
All right?

Speaker 2 (23:51):
Day eight five nine two two seven.

Speaker 4 (23:53):
After our cars publish out phone number, Uh, we got
some calls on right now, it's going to take there
he is.

Speaker 2 (24:02):
If he's handling it like a champ.

Speaker 3 (24:03):
I thought that was a QMTH shirt double Q.

Speaker 5 (24:06):
Why am I qmmth and double Q? You know I
do like seven jobs.

Speaker 3 (24:09):
The Show with No Name.

Speaker 5 (24:10):
One of the greatest shows of the history of radio
was that Terry Miner back in.

Speaker 4 (24:14):
The day, way back in the day. Uh, what's gonna
call Rick? Who we got first?

Speaker 2 (24:22):
Rick? Corey is up first, Go ahead, Cory, what's up?

Speaker 3 (24:28):
Guy?

Speaker 7 (24:32):
So I'm with you guys on the all roads lead
to Lexington. So we had a good run in Commonwealth,
but it's more of like a mall walk out. So
I have an idea to kind of upgrade that. So
you know how Tennessee took uh Rocky Top and slowed
it down and made it kind of creepy before the
team runs out, We could do the same thing with Never.

Speaker 8 (24:53):
Leave Harlan Alive. Put that with the blue light.

Speaker 5 (24:59):
No make it.

Speaker 7 (25:00):
You know how Tennessee makes you Rockey Tops the cree
kind of creepy.

Speaker 5 (25:04):
But the same song, Never Leave Harlan Alive is already slow.

Speaker 2 (25:08):
Yeah, yeah, slow it down to it.

Speaker 7 (25:12):
Yeah, maybe it sounds better in my head, but yeah,
like make it kind.

Speaker 3 (25:15):
Of dark, just speeding it up, Dude, I don't want
to get to Corey's head if that's what he wants
slowing it down.

Speaker 2 (25:22):
Appreciate it, Cory. I mean, people I think love that song.

Speaker 4 (25:26):
I don't know when you play it at a football game,
at an event like that, you know, I think that
the first time they did it, like in between the
third quarter and fourth quarter, I remember they did it. It
was it was cool. I got goosebumps. You does it
still work now?

Speaker 5 (25:37):
I think you can use that song if you use
a clip of it and then go into like a
grow Street party, Uh huh, Like if you can intro
it with that and then like it's a part of it,
you know what I mean, Like if you you kind
of mesh those two together or I guess it's called
a mash up. You know, if you do something like that,
it could work.

Speaker 2 (25:52):
You know.

Speaker 3 (25:52):
I think every college in America is trying to find
the perfect Like Virginia Tech and Sandman. The entire stadium
seventy five thousand people and when that starts, they all
and it's awe. I mean I get goosebumps because if
you've ever been there live and that it is ridiculous.
Sweet Caroline, and I mean all these different schools, we've

(26:15):
got to find that that song because it.

Speaker 4 (26:19):
Grow Street Party, that's the song, right, and then they
didn't play it the first game, but that that's our
only thing we've gotten close to that.

Speaker 3 (26:25):
Yeah, I mean he's been here, right, he was in
the game couple time.

Speaker 4 (26:27):
I think he's coming to a game this year. You
got a contract on a Friday night in Lexington, I
would say he'd be there in the next game on Saturday.

Speaker 5 (26:33):
Even Florida take it. I walked back down by Petty
before the fourth course. It's just you gotta find that
song that just gets everybody and raises the energy of
the stadium.

Speaker 4 (26:43):
This from the Vision Last Tech Machine them Reds As
since the REGI made a lot of dumb moves over
the years, but the one, the worst one was moving
Jeff off the broadcast.

Speaker 2 (26:51):
I hear a lot of that. They loved you doing
the Reds broadcast back in the day.

Speaker 3 (26:54):
Well, there was a situation there where Fox had to
sell because of the have been a monopoly with ESPN
and everything because Disney bought Fox and so when Ballely's
took over, it was a it was really bad situation,
only because it was twenty twenty in it was the
uh what did we even call COVID COVID, Yeah, whatever,

(27:15):
it was called the COVID. So we didn't travel and yeah,
the COVID, we you know, there was no travel. We
did the games out of a studio downtown even you know,
we couldn't we couldn't interview the player had to be.
We were interviewing him on a computer. So, I mean
I was sixty years old. It was time. I mean
twenty twenty six years is a long time and I
had a blast doing it. But you know, I'm kidding people.

Speaker 2 (27:37):
I think miss you on the broadcast though, Well sure, I.

Speaker 3 (27:39):
Just like I said, I just tried to have fun.
I baseball is is a lot of fun. I don't
you know what. I don't miss the games. I miss
everything around the games. I miss spring training, I miss
hanging out with the You know, Bronson Oroya is one
of my good friends, and he lives my house in
northern Kentucky. He lives in the two streets over for me,
he's you know, going out on his boat and stuff

(27:59):
like that. I mean, those guys, you're to me, it's
the greatest job in all of sports. And Bob Trumpy
and I talked to one time and he said, you
have the best job in all of sports. And Trump
he did the Masters, he did NFL football the other day,
he did everything the Olympics. And he said, well, we
do football. And I know that you flying on on Friday,
you meet with the coaches. If you're doing a national broadcast,

(28:22):
you meet with the coaches. On Friday, the athletic director
of the home team take takes you all the you know,
the broadcast crew out to dinner, You go to your hotel,
You wake up in the morning, you go to the stadium.
As soon as the game's over, boom, you're on a plane.
You fly home. Yeah, baseball, you've got a four game series,
so you're spending five nights in that city. Were we
were allowed to bring our golf clubs, Me, Chris Wells,

(28:43):
Jeff Brantley, Marty Bredman. When Joe was alive, Joe Joe
and Marty Joe was the greatest guy in the world. Yeah,
just the greatest guy. But we would go play and
I played six Ryder Cup courses. I played some of
the best golf courses in the country, all for free,
which is read David Better, unbelievable. But that's what I
miss about not doing baseball. But it was. It was

(29:05):
a lot of fun and I appreciate that.

Speaker 5 (29:07):
Yeah, now are the Reds gonna make the playoffs? They're
two back with nine to go.

Speaker 3 (29:11):
They they've got just the look. The problem with them
is they just can't keep Hunter and Nick Lodolo healthy, healthy,
last night for Hunter Green and once he does won
the game, he throws a shutout. Yea right, complete game.
Just that kid could be awesome. But they've got to
keep They've got to get thirty starts from each of
those two somehow. Lodolo is we call it like a

(29:33):
guy with a glass jaw. I mean, you go like
that and he's out for two weeks, you know, but
when he's.

Speaker 2 (29:38):
When he was out with blister on his finger.

Speaker 3 (29:41):
He had a blister, he had a grown pool. I mean,
it's just little things. If they could stay healthy. And
I think the one thing that they're missing on this
team is they don't have a veteran leader. They don't
have a guy that wears the sea on a shirt
that's been around to tell these guys the magnitude of
of a game against who wasn't to just weapon a
week ago or whatever it was.

Speaker 5 (30:02):
You're like, for it wasn't the car, it wasn't Ryan's Cardinals.

Speaker 3 (30:05):
How do you lose to you know, Miami, Miami three
straight games and the turnaround and you know, uh, it's
just it's weird. And I think that's all that they're missing,
a veteran presence.

Speaker 4 (30:16):
A five nine two seven to get another phone called Rick.
Who we got Alex is up next?

Speaker 2 (30:21):
Alex go ahead, Alex.

Speaker 8 (30:24):
Hey guys, this is Alex Green Ryan. I'm the one
that times you were Oh, I know you're running that
Nonsense Central that year. Okay, I'm calling six publicity.

Speaker 5 (30:37):
How fast it was a Johnson.

Speaker 8 (30:39):
Central belfree Halloween game. The uh the University of Kentucky
wrestling team. We have some SEC champions we have some
n Cuba All Americans. We had two SEC championships back
in the seventies, and I would love to get up
with like Tyle or Drew or Nick or one of

(31:02):
the KSRO Riders and just give them the information the
sport of wrestling in our states. Gromans, we have the
Rainy Twins, the Jaden Rainey just competed this week in
the World Championships in Croatia. I think the Big Blue
Nations would really enjoy some of the history that we
have with.

Speaker 2 (31:18):
Joe Car Alex.

Speaker 4 (31:20):
We appreciate the Yeah, Joe Car from Woodford County, We
appreciate that. The appreciate phone call.

Speaker 2 (31:26):
Alex.

Speaker 5 (31:26):
There you go, Tyler, if you're listening, get to work write.

Speaker 2 (31:28):
That article for it. There we go.

Speaker 4 (31:29):
Yeah, you know, he did mention the Randy Twins from
Union County. They're probably the best wrestlers ever come out
of this state. They're world champions right now out of
Union County High School.

Speaker 5 (31:37):
Though, I feel like volleyball is taking over right now.

Speaker 2 (31:39):
We gotta talk about the volleyball games.

Speaker 3 (31:40):
Yeah, what a match last night.

Speaker 2 (31:42):
It was awesome.

Speaker 4 (31:43):
Volleyball team goes to the YOUMP Center to play Louisville.
Louisville ranked the country, Kentucky ranked sixth in the country.
It goes to the fifth game, that fourth game. In
fifth game, Kentucky just dominated offense.

Speaker 3 (31:54):
Their offense was ridiculous. Four forty four is what they
hit in the fourth game, which is redigulous. Most team
said about two seventy five, four forty four. And then
in the fifth game, when you only go to fifteen,
they hit over five hundred percent.

Speaker 2 (32:07):
It was over early.

Speaker 3 (32:08):
It was crazy. But fifteen to seven, I mean, that's
like a sixty two to seven game in football.

Speaker 4 (32:13):
I'll sent by Mario last night. A ks bar had
the game on. That fifth game went by so fast
he looked up like is it over?

Speaker 2 (32:18):
Like you didn't even know it ended?

Speaker 6 (32:20):
It did they were down for a little bit in
a series like two to.

Speaker 2 (32:22):
One, right, yeah, yeah, two to one.

Speaker 6 (32:24):
Bag in Brooklyn delay. She had a few big plays, so.

Speaker 4 (32:27):
Huge plays time.

Speaker 6 (32:29):
Went for Kentucky.

Speaker 2 (32:30):
We got talking about we watched the game with an
older gentleman.

Speaker 6 (32:33):
Yeah, who was that?

Speaker 4 (32:34):
I don't know who he was, but he was living
and dying with every point.

Speaker 6 (32:38):
He was definitely carrying all the energy in the bar.
He was leading the ship.

Speaker 4 (32:42):
He was parked right in front of the big screen
that had the game on, living and dying every point,
doing his own Jeff Picoro commentary Sandboy commentary during the game.
But it was kind of fun to be there and
watch with such somebody who was such a big fan.

Speaker 6 (32:54):
I didn't even really need to look up. I would
just hear him and whatever he would say. I would
learn from whatever is going on in the game.

Speaker 2 (33:00):
It's gonna havether call Rick. Who we got?

Speaker 3 (33:01):
Ryan?

Speaker 2 (33:02):
Is up next? Ryan?

Speaker 5 (33:03):
Go ahead?

Speaker 2 (33:04):
Ryan?

Speaker 9 (33:06):
So on Calzada. Is he's a guy that we were
going after and we paid him that money because that's
what he was worth. Or is he a guy that
just kind of failed to us. We ended up painting
you know that, right, because we hope he would live
up to it.

Speaker 2 (33:26):
Fair fair question. Appreciate the phone called Jeff Well.

Speaker 3 (33:29):
I think that there's tiers when you're talking about some
of these players. For instance, Uh, the kid that was
Georgia's quarterback last year is now at Miami. I mean
he's making obscene money. Carson back to go to Miami.
I mean he's making like four million dollars this year.
That's why he went, and that's why when Kentucky doesn't
have that kind of money. So you're not going to

(33:50):
get the tier one guys. So now you go to
tier two and you say, okay, which of these guys
fits our offense? And and they sif they they actually
have three or four coaches that they're call coaches, maybe GA's,
I'm not sure. But all they do all day is
sit there and sift through the transfer portal. And each
of them have different positions. Okay, Ryan, you've got the
defensive backs, all right, and Mario you've got the defensive line,

(34:12):
and Shannon you've got the offensive. So these guys every
day are going through and seeing who the fits would
be next year, to guys that they think will be
going or who are in the portal so they sift
through that tier two or tier three and they say, Okay,
I like, this guy's got a chance, this guy's got
a chance. Okay, Now how much is it going to
take for us to get this guy or this guy?

(34:33):
And you can price yourself out of a market, or
maybe you overpay somebody to come. But that's why I'm
just kind of leery of this. And you look at
like Nico is a great example of this. I mean,
you know, eight million dollars to go to Tennessee and
now he's at UCLA and he's only making one So
you know, he thought he was going to get a
ton of money and he's getting half of what he
was getting at Tennessee. He was getting two million a

(34:56):
year for four years and now he's only getting a million.
I just it blows my mind. And people are looking
at me at here like with their eyes open. It
blows my mind. I mean, we got twenty bucks on
the weekend and that was to eat because our yeah yeah,
our training table was only up Monday through Friday. So
we get twenty bucks and Derek Ramsey I only got fifteen.
So yeah, but you know, we couldn't have a job

(35:22):
or anything.

Speaker 2 (35:22):
Like that.

Speaker 3 (35:22):
You even't have any money? Yeah, I couldn't. I couldn't
fathom walking around campus with a bank account that has
ten or six five figures and they all do it.
And like the other day I was, you know, I
lived right over here off Tate Spa. Went into the
malones at Drake's and the whole the offensive line was

(35:43):
in there, and they're eating like kings. We used to
go to a loud to square.

Speaker 5 (35:50):
Somebody bought us, bought us sandwich or anything. Yes, now
you know you're breaking a violation, you know.

Speaker 3 (35:56):
And how about did you see where Wafford got six
players suspended?

Speaker 5 (36:00):
If you saw that.

Speaker 3 (36:02):
And some of them was for less than eighty dollars
and you're paying and it was for impermissible what what?
What does that mean?

Speaker 5 (36:12):
It's the wild West right now, it is.

Speaker 3 (36:14):
And now they would you know what if that Wafford
was Ohio State, you think those guys, Oh no, it's
like we're see this is what you can't do. Uh
oh no, Kentucky. See see you can't do that, but
you can do what you're doing. It's okay, that's just wrong.

Speaker 5 (36:31):
That's the NC double A or nutshell. It's been like
that for a long time. I think that's that's the
frustration with the NC double are they treat it could
be the same situation, different school, You get different punishments
depending on who you are.

Speaker 4 (36:42):
We are live at Wild Eggs and Tates Creek kind
of the grand opening the new Wild Eggs here at
Tates Creek. We appreciate you guys. Everybody came out to
join us. We got lots of giveaways to give away
at some point, so hang around for that.

Speaker 2 (36:52):
We'll take our break.

Speaker 4 (36:53):
Go back to the phone lines eight five nine two
eight oh two two eight seven. That's the Clark's Publish
op phone number eight five nine. Okay, this is the
Kentucky's Portradio. Welcome back to take a sports radio live
from Wild Eggs and Tates Creek, the new Wild Eggs
location out here in Tates Creek. It's a really nice facility,
probably their biggest one of all of them. And the
bar here is fantastic. Here you can get your apple cider, mimosa,
your Bloody Mary's. So it's breakfast, bunch and lunch with

(37:15):
the bar. Wild Eggs, Ryan Lemon, Jeff Piccoro, Shannon the Dude,
and super Mario on his birthday today. But how about
my boy Chris out here. Chris is turning fifty years
old today. Happy birthday Chris. Yeah, we have our sources, Chris.

Speaker 2 (37:30):
They call me Scoop Lemon for a reason.

Speaker 3 (37:32):
He gotta like his T shirt, don't you have?

Speaker 2 (37:34):
Teacher says I still hate Latner on.

Speaker 4 (37:36):
So happy birthday to Chris fifty birthday into Mario as well.
We want to give a shout out to to a
guy's friend of ours, Gary Ball.

Speaker 3 (37:45):
Oh.

Speaker 4 (37:45):
Gary Ball has been doing the Scholastic Ball Report in
Lexington for twenty three years. He's going to retire, but
he helped kind of get the high school sports scene
back in the forefront here in the Lexington AIO the
last several years. And heels. I think we owe him
a lot of credit for what he did for high
school sports.

Speaker 3 (38:03):
Oh, he's he's a guru in that. I mean, you're
asking about any that's something that's really hard and you
have to really study that. Yeah, and he knows the schools,
he knows the superintendents, he knows athletic director's coaches. He's
just done a fantastic job. You know, he's had some
health issues and he's he just powered right through it.

Speaker 4 (38:23):
Yeah, a guy that, uh, single handedly you know, got
that network going.

Speaker 2 (38:26):
This classic Ball report.

Speaker 4 (38:27):
He started out on the radio and then to have
a TV show out there at ky t so. Uh,
a little tip of the captain Gary Balls. He rides
off into the sunset eight five nine two two eight seven.
That's our cars pumping shop phone number.

Speaker 9 (38:38):
Uh.

Speaker 4 (38:39):
They're going to announce Kentucky's permanent SEC opponents next.

Speaker 2 (38:43):
Week Tuesday, Tuesday, next week. We who do you for
a call? Three of you guys? Who do you want
and who do you think that they're going to get?

Speaker 6 (38:52):
Well, what do you mean permanent football?

Speaker 4 (38:56):
You're gonna have re permanent six rotating and I guess
Tomas this morning that will be reevaluated every four years.

Speaker 2 (39:02):
Yeah, so they will rotate. You may get different, you
may get three teams for year.

Speaker 5 (39:07):
Yeah, I mean, I guess Vandy would obviously be the
first one you would pick. I love the Tennessee rivalry,
So I mean, even though they beat her brains and
it feels like every year, I still like to play
them every year. And then I don't know, like you
were talking on the pre show, Missouri looks at Kentucky
like we're a rival. I don't look at Missouri as
a rival. I would rather play a team like Florida
every year. But if we're we're ranking them in the tiers,

(39:28):
the top pier team, middle tier team, bottom tier team.
I think Georgia would probably be your your top tier team, yes,
for your permanent a play. I think South Carolina would
probably be your middle tier. And then maybe I don't
know how Vandy's situation works out, but possibly Vandy as
your bottom tier team, or I don't know, maybe maybe
Mississippi State. I'm not really sure on that one.

Speaker 3 (39:49):
Yeah, it's I think for sure it's Georgia. I think
when you do this, you have to look at the
other team's rivalries. Tennessee's got the Tennessee Florida is a
huge game every year, right then the Georgia Florida is
a huge Alabama, you know, So those type of things
you got to Okay, that's there, Mississippi, Misissippi State.

Speaker 5 (40:08):
You know, Tennyson is gonna get bandig correct.

Speaker 3 (40:10):
Correct. So I think it's Georgia. And then either a
combination of these two, either Missouri or South Carolina would
be the middle tier. And I think Vanderbilt would be
the other one that Kentucky gets.

Speaker 2 (40:21):
Oh, Georgia. Both of you guys think it's gonna be Georgia.
I don't want to.

Speaker 5 (40:25):
I mean, it's gotta be somebody. I'd rather be. Georgia. Well,
I mean it's Georgia, Alabama. I mean it's gonna be
somebody one of those two you got and Alabama.

Speaker 6 (40:33):
I want to switch it up a little bit.

Speaker 2 (40:35):
You want Alabama to be our permanent appoint opponent for
the next three I.

Speaker 6 (40:37):
Feel like we never really play Alabama though, disappointing. I mean,
just switch it up a little bit, play Alabama.

Speaker 2 (40:44):
So if you if you had to pick your three teams,
who would it be?

Speaker 6 (40:47):
Probably go Alabama Florida order for sure.

Speaker 5 (40:51):
I don't want Alabama.

Speaker 6 (40:53):
Lastly, I'm probably going to Mississippi State.

Speaker 3 (40:54):
I'd be Arkansas, Mississippi State, Candy, Yeah, let's go.

Speaker 5 (40:58):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (40:58):
Well I did see that one. I projected kind of
what Mario just said. I think he said Georgia, South
Carolina and Vandy. That's I think that was a strong possibility.

Speaker 3 (41:08):
Well, here's the thing. You know, there's there's eighteen teams
and you're playing nine every year, so you're gonna play
every team within a two year span. Yeah, and home
and away every four years, you'll play. So we've we've
been to Texas A and M one time. We played
Texas A and M once since they've been in the
league once.

Speaker 2 (41:25):
They've never been here every one time. They've never been
never been to Lexington.

Speaker 3 (41:28):
Yeah, we've already We're gonna play Texas twice. They've only
been in the league for two years and we've only
played Texas A and M one time in the whole
time they've been in the league.

Speaker 4 (41:37):
So we're gonna take our break, come back. We're live
here at Wild Eggs in Lexington. Of course, they just
got their just in, their pumpkin pie pancakes, their apple cider, mimosas.
It's breakfast, brunch and lunch with the bar. They're also
known for their all their signature breakfasts. It's it's really good,
a fantastic So I'm get you guys coming in. We'll
take our break. We've got a pancake flipping contest. DraftKings

(41:57):
Odds says I am the favorite by far. We're doing
that now right now, We're right back. This is Kaseuckuve
