Welcome to Hour two of Kentucky's Sports Radio presented by
Stockton Mortgage. Now Here's Matt Jones.

Speaker 2 (01:06):
All right, welcome back Hour number two Kentucky Sports Radio.
Matt Jones still over in South Africa. If you heard
Drew's update, they're gonna be recording a couple podcasts today,
like you got two of them back to back, as
soon as it show's over.

Speaker 4 (01:16):
Literally as soon as the show's over at a different location.
But I'm gonna get there.

Speaker 2 (01:21):
And of course he's I'm sure i'll torp about what
the Reds have done and can't be able to do.
So we're gonna talk about the UK football this hour
because we got along our special guest, mister Joejoe Kemp
joins us.

Speaker 5 (01:31):
Now, how are you, Jojo? How you guys doing? I'm
doing good, buddy.

Speaker 2 (01:34):
You've been up early this morning, said you had to
be in Winchester at seven o'clock this morning and still
made it on time here today.

Speaker 5 (01:39):
Yes, man, thanks to you know, the art ole Orto
legend Dtor Hamilton. He was able, you know, to do
his cases and allow me to leave on time just
so I can make the show with you guys.

Speaker 2 (01:50):
You know the South Carolina game every time it comes
up every year, it's always the Jojo Camp game, the
game that kind of changed the course. I always felt
like for Mark Stoops that game night game at the
Old Commonwealth Stadium and they You're in the Wildcat with
Jojo Kemp and they couldn't stop it, and they kept
calling it, and they kept calling it and they kept

(02:10):
calling it. Next thing, I know, you've got like six
hundred yard rushing in fourteen touchdowns and Kentucky wins.

Speaker 6 (02:15):
The game exactly changed the game.

Speaker 2 (02:17):
Do you feel like that game though, did kind of
change the course or Stoops's career at that point.

Speaker 6 (02:22):
Oh? Yeah, of course, especially being Steve Spurrier.

Speaker 5 (02:26):
But I think the nail in the coffin was the
very next year when we beat Steve Spurrow.

Speaker 2 (02:33):
At South South Carolina.

Speaker 5 (02:35):
I think that was the game he said, all right,
I had enough of this. I'm going to retire. I
can't beat Kentucky. I think it's time to hang it up.
So that's my claim of thing.

Speaker 4 (02:44):
In that famous twenty fourteen game, though, I mean, there
were so many magical things that happened, but you were
obviously a big part of it in the Wildcat, just
doing whatever you wanted to behind that offensive line. How
did it feel, even though you're obviously gassed. How did
it feel to kind of be locked in like that?
And uh, you know it's kind of the cluchety old
Madden quote, but putting the team on your back like that,
because you literally did that exactly.

Speaker 5 (03:07):
It was just one of those things where, man, the
the stadium was was just you know, electric, man, and
I just didn't want to let you know, the team
and the fans down. It was something that I had
to get done. I had to get done. And the
fact that there was running the wildcat the whole in
turn game and everybody in the country knew that I

(03:28):
wasn't throwing the ball. So it's like one of those things, Well,
you know, you got to figure it out, you gotta
get it done. And you were so gassed you get
carried off the field. Yeah, was it the strength coach?
It was a strength coach man.

Speaker 6 (03:44):
Man.

Speaker 5 (03:45):
I remember looking at the sideline top of my helmet,
like just let me off one play and then Neil
Brown is like this.

Speaker 7 (03:53):
No, no, no, get a drink out exactly, and then
I break that long run and then I don't know
if you guys remember, I mean I was on the sideline,
I laid out with gas and next thing.

Speaker 6 (04:05):
You know, I start hearing the chance.

Speaker 5 (04:06):
Like Joe Joe, Joe Joe, and I'm just like, all right,
all right, now you got your rest and get up,
let's do it again.

Speaker 4 (04:13):
We were a few of those Joe Jo.

Speaker 6 (04:14):
I appreciate it, guys.

Speaker 2 (04:16):
And like I said, that game was so important for
Mark Stoops's coaching career in UK football as a dad
and one of my favorite games because I got to
storm the field after the game with my two boys
first time. You know, we're jumping over the sideline and
going on the field as a dad had that experience. Man,
it was it was like I got goosebumps right now,
chilli pumps. I got chili bumps thinking about it.

Speaker 6 (04:35):
Man, I'm glad you are. Man.

Speaker 5 (04:36):
When you just brung up your two boys, you just
made me feel old because I know one of your
boys just answered this first year at UK right and
you know I've been.

Speaker 6 (04:44):
Gone for some time. I don't feel like an old man.
Why you got to do that to me?

Speaker 2 (04:48):
Right when you sat down here, I said, what are
you mid thirties? Like, no, dude, I'm just thirty years old.

Speaker 6 (04:54):
What's up with Ryan trying to trying to age us? Man,
I know he didn't.

Speaker 4 (04:58):
Believe you when you correct it. That night also is
famous for the creation of the Grove Street Party. Yes,
it was getting into it. I said that so old
the grocery party fans get But before the kickoff the
Special Teams unit, they were kind of just bobbing out
the ordinary. But for whatever reason, Kroger Phils last show

(05:18):
on to that and it has not gone away exactly.
Y'all don't know if you weren't in at that moment,
you're on the bench, you know, kickoff, But what was
that like? Did you know that that might set you know,
decades later we're still going.

Speaker 5 (05:28):
Yeah, And I was actually gonna talk about that because
you know, the start of the season this year it
was no Grove Street and I promise you guys, it
was like people, including myself, was going to have a
panic attack because it was like, what's going.

Speaker 6 (05:42):
On, Where's where's our think?

Speaker 2 (05:43):
So?

Speaker 6 (05:44):
What's changing? What's changing?

Speaker 5 (05:46):
So I'm glad they're able to bring that back and
then we can get some things going because I feel like,
let's have that old culture here, let's come out with
a little worried about ourselves, and let's go out and
get a victory over US.

Speaker 6 (05:57):
This South Carolina team.

Speaker 2 (05:58):
Has the program missing some of that swagger that you
guys had back in the day. The last couple of
years that you see it as a fan now has
some of that swagger been missing a little bit.

Speaker 5 (06:07):
So, Man, our swagger was like internal, Man, I think
these guys got a little bit more swagger.

Speaker 6 (06:13):
Man, I think with this nil money, I.

Speaker 5 (06:15):
See all these big old chains and stuff like that,
I want that type of swagger.

Speaker 6 (06:19):
Then the swagger that we had what.

Speaker 4 (06:21):
You guys think you did just miss out on that.
We've had this conversation with a few of the guys
from your era who really helped put UK on the map.
You know, we were joking before this, but anything the
guys have now is in part because you guys got
the ball rolling them with stoops. But you did miss
out on some nice financial return for what you gave
just for a few years. That's sting a little bit.

Speaker 6 (06:41):
Just a little bit.

Speaker 5 (06:41):
But you know, we had the cross, so these guys
can walk, So I don't mind it at all. And
then you know, of course, the work we're putting in
outside of football, you know, we're still trying to get
a little bit of that nil money back right.

Speaker 4 (06:53):
Video games, maybe a little bit back.

Speaker 2 (06:56):
You know, Bud Dupre had the big touchdown of that game. Also,
There's so many momentous occasions, but you know, you and
Bud kind of did help set the stage for what
we saw several years later. Ten win seasons, eight win seasons,
things that a lot of Kentucky fans wn't just dream
of it. One point tax lair a Bowl.

Speaker 5 (07:15):
I know you guys are familiar with the Music City Bowl,
but we got the Citers Bowl. You know, you know,
we definitely got over that hump. And then now I
think we a little bit, you know, further than that.
Now we want to get to a bowl game. But
you know, let's start competing for some SEC championships. Let's
let's start competing for some playoffs. You know.

Speaker 4 (07:34):
But when you you committed, there wasn't any of that. Yeah,
I know, it was quite a downtime round here.

Speaker 5 (07:40):
I mean it wasn't even a field stadium when I committed.
So we was definitely changing the program around, changing the
culture around Kentucky football, for sure.

Speaker 4 (07:47):
But how did they convince you? You're a Florida guy,
you know, you come up here to Kentucky. How did
they convince you that, you know, stick with us and
you can be a part of this and help us
build it because the coaching staff was new also and
just getting.

Speaker 6 (07:58):
Their legs exactly.

Speaker 2 (08:00):
I know.

Speaker 5 (08:01):
I mean, it's a lot of stuff I can't say,
but man, how they treated us on our recruiting visits,
and I mean we got a chance to see it
in the community ourselves. I came up here with a
group of Florida guys that I was on all star
teams with in high school as far as like Blake McLean,
Jeff Baddett, Garrett Johnson, those guys I knew in high school.

Speaker 6 (08:21):
So it was one of those things.

Speaker 5 (08:22):
Once they got all of us here, we kind of
made that commitment together and then from that we kind
of kind of snowball to you know, all the other
guys that came from Florida here today.

Speaker 4 (08:33):
Do you guys stay in touch? I know our listeners
know all those names. Oh and Garrett Johnson one of
the most underrated receivers if you go to the record books,
his name's all in it exactly. Doesn't get talked about enough.
But do you all stay in touch?

Speaker 6 (08:44):
Oh?

Speaker 5 (08:44):
Yeah, for sure. You know those my guys. I went
to Garrett's wedding, Blake McLean's wedding. You know, all those
guys married and got kids now. Jeff Bdett and Garret
Johnson also has a podcast called The Juice Boys. I
don't know if you guys too down to it. So
you know, they're doing their own things outside. I'm really
the only one that's still here that living like saying,

(09:07):
you know, got a career and you know, making a difference.
I'm still changing the game.

Speaker 4 (09:11):
So when they visit, come to games, they're on your
couch and they're hitting you up for places and stuff.

Speaker 5 (09:15):
Of course, of course, like I said earlier, we didn't
get a chance to get n il. So you know, however,
you know you gotta come and save some money. Come,
why not come to my house. You don't have to,
you know, spend money on hotel fees, get rental cars
and ubers all that. You just let me come in,
be your host and let me take care of you.

Speaker 2 (09:33):
So what does Jojo Kimp do on game days? Do
you go to the games? Do you tailgate? Do you
get a bunch of friends and hang out for after
the game? What do you do?

Speaker 6 (09:40):
Yeah?

Speaker 5 (09:40):
Man, you know. Now, I'm a little older now, so
I've been doing a little tailgateing. I get a chance
to see what the other side of the field looks like.
So you can always find me at a tailgate, you know,
just hanging out, playing a little corn hold.

Speaker 6 (09:54):
Things like that.

Speaker 5 (09:55):
But I mean, if it's a later game, I'm not
gonna lie to you, guys, I'm not gonna lie. I
do go over to kirk Levitton, get a couple of
games and pick a ball in. So I'm a little.

Speaker 2 (10:07):
Older now, you're a pick a ball guy. Yeah, I'm
a pickleballer, and Joe, we'll go over to p K
l Lex and do it.

Speaker 6 (10:16):
Come on, let's do it. But let's do it.

Speaker 5 (10:18):
I'm over at kirk Levitton, or you can find me
at pick a Ball, Petty.

Speaker 2 (10:22):
That's that.

Speaker 4 (10:25):
You can have your shout outs. But it was very
clear that you go to the games and pay attention
when you noticed that Grove Street wasn't played. We don't
have to you know, they fixed it. Wet have to
get into that, but that you told on yourself that
you're at all the games when you even noticed that
it was that it was missing one time exactly exactly.

Speaker 5 (10:41):
Man, that was just like that was just one of
those things where it was part of you know, the
culture that we created, and it was it was one
of those things where it just happened, you know, naturally
and organically. And that was just one of those songs
where we made a memorable game that that that made

(11:02):
a mark. And and and you know, in our in
our history.

Speaker 4 (11:05):
Now being from Kentucky growing up here, a lifelong fan
of UK, if you told me that the organic song
we would have would be by Walker, there's a good
surprise there. Such a players but you and Stoops, you
still hit him up occasionally being in Lexington for sure.

Speaker 5 (11:23):
And you know, actually that's what Weill was talking about earlier. Drew,
I feel like I'm being a little biased because not
only is Coach's a great coach, but he's a great
players coach. And it's something that you know, I'm doing now.

Speaker 6 (11:38):
I'm still involved with the program.

Speaker 5 (11:40):
If I have any friends, family members, you know, counterparts
that you know, maybe want to go toward the facility
or you know, check out a practice, it's an open door.
And I feel like, you know, if we get a
new coach, head coach and I try to walk in,
they be like, hey, who's that guy? You know, who
is that guy?

Speaker 2 (12:00):
All right?

Speaker 5 (12:00):
So I have to kind of remind him like, hey man,
you know, change the game.

Speaker 6 (12:05):
Why not us? You get it.

Speaker 4 (12:07):
You can be selfish in that way. That's your coach anywhere,
and if anywhere it gives you trouble for going to
the building just to point to the South Carolina highlights
the run of the loop and say that's me number three.

Speaker 2 (12:16):
So we've got that sound bite, one of the most
famous sound bites in UK football history. We're gonna play
it in the next segment of what you just said
right there because it kind of resonated for years to
come what you did after the South Carolina game. But
I gotta tell you the market may shift, Jojo, but
Stockton Mortgage Guidance stays steady. Their team can help you
make informed decisions based on your goals, not guesswork. So
start today and if you're buying a home that maybe

(12:38):
needs the love, Stockton's renovation loan options can help cover
both the purchase and the improvements. So start today at
Stockton dot com, NMLS A two five nine Equality Lender,
MLS Consumer Access dot Org. Ryan Drew and Shannon. We're
here with Jojo Camp. We're gonna play with the most
famous sound bites and UK football history that Jojo did
after that South Carolina game in twenty fourteen. We come back.
This is Kentucky Sports Radio. There it is there. That

(13:01):
happened that night South Carolina game twenty fourteen. We were
talking during the break. Somebody texted this in on the
Avision Glass text machine. They should play that clip of
the kickoff team guys dancing the moment they played that
song and that's where the whole movement kind of started.
They need to just play that video clip again.

Speaker 6 (13:18):
Those guys are all in sync too.

Speaker 5 (13:20):
It was like it was just like they practiced it
and like they was gonna come out and the little.

Speaker 4 (13:25):
Their arms going.

Speaker 2 (13:26):
But it just happened spontaneously. There was no rehearsal practice.
That just happened. Yeah, it was everything was organic. That's
why that night was so special. Yeah, that's why that
night was where we have to keep it. That's one
of the few things we've got thinking. So we need
to keep that Grove Street party and play it exactly.

Speaker 4 (13:41):
What we didn't even really mention, like the bud tip, right,
that's about as loud as.

Speaker 6 (13:46):
Uh it was.

Speaker 2 (13:46):
It kind of was shaken a little bit. Yeah, So
I ask you during the break, who was the quarterback
when you were doing the wildcat formation run all that time?

Speaker 5 (13:55):
It was uh Pactor Tow'es. Literally they would line him
up at receiver. They would not put a cornerback on
Patrick Toes. He was wide open. All I had to
do was get the ball and throw a screen out.

Speaker 2 (14:07):
Why did they throw your pass? Call for you?

Speaker 6 (14:08):
Then, Man, I didn't. I didn't. I didn't know how
to throw. I didn't know how to throw. Ryan.

Speaker 5 (14:14):
I threw one pass in my career, all right, and
it was an interception. So right now in my career
Jojo Kemp, I am oer for one and wow. So
only if I could have been you know, the Lynn Bowlden,
because actually they took all the plays that we practiced in,

(14:36):
all the passing plays that they had in the wildcat
and then that I couldn't throw the ball. That very
next year they let Lynn Bowlden do that same package.
But now he can throw because he was a quarterback
quarterback exactly, so he just fit right in perfectly.

Speaker 6 (14:50):
So he had like the wildcat top so.

Speaker 4 (14:54):
I have to correct you on one thing because if
I'm not mistaken, it was the South Carolina game where
you ran the trick play where you pitched it to
toes through a fifty yard touchdowns exactly exactly, so you
didn't get thrown a little out of the wildcat. I
think I think you all ran a little somethingwhere he
threw a bomb.

Speaker 5 (15:10):
If I'm not mistake, Yeah, yeah, because everybody was biting down,
like I said, Ryan Timmins, exactly, And that's what I said,
like when literally throughout the year, right that game and
so forth, I would be in that wildcat. You should
see the defense. It go from like everybody spread out,

(15:31):
so now everybody's topping.

Speaker 6 (15:32):
That its like oh yeah, oh yeah, you know what
he's doing exactly.

Speaker 5 (15:35):
So it's it was literally that that that will and
that toughness, you know that I had to bring out
myself so I can get the positive yards and do
what I needed to do so I could team can
come out victorious one.

Speaker 4 (15:47):
Hundred and thirty one yards on seventeen carries for three touchdowns,
averaging seven point seven to carry. When everyone in the building,
everyone outside the building, people not even paying attention to
knew you were gonna.

Speaker 5 (15:59):
Run exactly exactly. But I mean, if that doesn't build
a character, I don't know what does.

Speaker 2 (16:06):
So after the game, a reporter interviewed you live on
the field. Fans just stormed the field. The fans are
running around behind you. Me and my two boys are
running around aufter somewhere behind you, and you had this
awesome SoundBite that kind of rallied the team for the
next several years. So Shann's gonna play for us. We
can relive that moment.

Speaker 6 (16:22):
This is after.

Speaker 4 (16:25):
Three touchdowns tonight.

Speaker 6 (16:28):
Man.

Speaker 5 (16:28):
It felt good, but I can't do it on my team,
my old lineman.

Speaker 6 (16:32):
Man, I came here to change the program around, and
that's what we're doing. We're changing the game. Why not Kentucky?
Why not us?

Speaker 4 (16:39):
What did you learn about your teammates tonight?

Speaker 1 (16:41):
H What did you learn about your teammates tonight?

Speaker 6 (16:43):
Man?

Speaker 5 (16:43):
We fell hard, we stayed out there, We fought through adversity,
and like I said, be foe. I came here to
change the game, and that's what our team is doing.

Speaker 6 (16:50):
Why not Kentucky?

Speaker 2 (16:52):
We are new UK.

Speaker 6 (16:54):
We are the new UK. We are the new UK.

Speaker 2 (16:57):
Why not Kentucky? Why not us?

Speaker 6 (16:59):
We are the new UK.

Speaker 2 (17:01):
That changed a lot of stuff right then, that moment.

Speaker 6 (17:06):
Change the game.

Speaker 5 (17:07):
Man, oh man, uh, you guys are breaking back soon
many memory, I just got the chill. Listen to that, man, uh, listen.
Were so passionate about, you know, getting over that hump
come here, because a lot of guys on our team
could have went, you know, anywhere in the country, but
all decided to come to Kentucky. And in that locker room,

(17:29):
we all had one mission, and only one mission, and
that was getting over their hump, you know, doing something
special and changing the culture around Kentucky football. And I'll
never forget the feeling, you know, of winning that game
and feeling like we took a step in that direction.

Speaker 4 (17:50):
You know, I got one more question from that game
before we get onto the big picture. We don't want
to do that, Do you remember remember that?

Speaker 6 (17:57):
You remember?

Speaker 4 (17:57):
I have one more thing I've asked Naptimba. But if
that wasn't the first time they did the chrome helmets
in the black, it's like the second that was brand new?
Is it really just a different feeling when you bring
out a new trick like that, whether it's the black
or the chrome or whatever. Does that really add more juicers.
There's just already so much juice you can't possibly have more. Listen,

(18:21):
we need to know the uniform. How much you really
master putting on those chrome helmets and looking at yourself
and the chrome helmets you can hit your buddy on
a helmet and look at yourself. It feels like it's
it's adding more juice. Like you you're almost feel.

Speaker 6 (18:42):
Like a immortal. You almost feel like a superhero.

Speaker 5 (18:46):
It's something about that all black and them chrome helmets
that that that that makes you, you know, just play
a little bit harder, a little bit faster. And it's
funny because I was just talking to my buddies and
I think l C a act. He just played a
game and they had on the all black with the
chrome helmets and they won that game. And I was
just talking to him and I was like, I can
only imagine how those kids felt when the coaches pulled

(19:09):
out those chrome helmets. I can only imagine because it's
something about them chrome helmets and at all black under
the lights nighttime game. Come on, you can't ask for
anything better than that, right.

Speaker 4 (19:22):
Yeah, people love the blue and the traditions, but every
once in a while. As you're you're proving, it helps
to bring out a little extra and try something new,
bring a little fire.

Speaker 5 (19:30):
Yeah, you get a little bit of juice of under
your under your belt. Man, let's do it. Let's go
play ball. But now if you go out there and
you don't perform, throw them away.

Speaker 6 (19:41):
You don't need you don't need to wear the holls
again those pictures.

Speaker 2 (19:46):
So what about what about this year's team? So, Cutter Bowli,
this is gonna be his first SEC start and his
first SEC road start, and it's at a tough place
to play in South Carolina.

Speaker 5 (20:00):
What are your thoughts about the keys over to him? Yeah, man,
I'm excited. I'm excited. And I was actually uh talking
to the Ortho legend doctor Hamilton about it, and he said, hey, man,
you know my coach told me. I said, what's that.
He was like, if if the players are close, you
always go with the younger guy. And our one hundred

(20:20):
percent agree. I think we made a good decision of
going with cutter, younger guy. He's gonna have a ton
of experience, he's gonna gain a ton of experience, and
you know, going in the atmosphere like South Carolina, I'm
pretty sure we're gonna be showing him old film. I
think he's gonna be ready. I think he's gonna be
ready to play. And I mean, who doesn't like going

(20:40):
to South Carolina and and and and quiet and ninety
five thousand fans like that's the best feeling ever. They're
gonna be loud. They're probably gonna be saying the white
tiles come on now, We're gonna, we're gonna, We're gonna,
We're gonna uh.

Speaker 2 (20:55):
Daris Rutgers probably gonna be on the sideline.

Speaker 6 (20:58):
We're gonna acquire that real quick. We're gonnacquitre that real quick.
I definitely have faith and Cutter.

Speaker 5 (21:03):
I think it was a good decision to go with him,
hometown kid, Let's do it?

Speaker 6 (21:07):
Why not?

Speaker 4 (21:08):
I know you like to win him at home for
your fans that are here and supporting you. But how
is it to still one celebrating that crappy locker room
they put you in. You got the flight home, you
know how? It just what makes it different when you
do go into that rival territory where it's kind of
just you all versus everybody and go and good one man.

Speaker 5 (21:23):
I love that feeling and That's what I was talking
to Ryan earlier. I really love, you know, that twenty
fourteen South Carolina game.

Speaker 6 (21:35):
But what was even better? Right, just because everything was
just so perfect.

Speaker 5 (21:39):
You can't write a perfect script than what they did
that twenty fourteen South Carolina game at at home, right
chrome ham MIT's Grove Street. All that, it was perfect,
But when you go to that next year twenty fifteen
at South Carolina, that was our first road sec win.
Everybody in the country thought the year before it was

(22:00):
a flute game.

Speaker 6 (22:02):
The football gods was on our side.

Speaker 5 (22:04):
But being able to go to their home the very
next year and beat them at their home and make
Steve Spurriy retire, that was even better.

Speaker 6 (22:12):
That was absolutely better because we heard those.

Speaker 5 (22:16):
Ninety five thousand fans wait, even the white flag and
carrying on and then silencing them and walking out with
a victory.

Speaker 6 (22:24):
It doesn't get any better than that.

Speaker 2 (22:26):
Will validates, like you said, it kind of validates what
you guys did the year before. When you go on
the road and knock that same team off again, you're
not supposed to validate everything.

Speaker 5 (22:33):
Exactly, and then now on that that builds the confidence
for the underclassmen like the freshman sophomores that's in that
room because after that game, we go on like a
five game winning streak against South Carolina.

Speaker 2 (22:45):
That's right now, the last time out they've had our
number the last couple of years.

Speaker 6 (22:48):
Yeah, they got it back.

Speaker 2 (22:50):
I don't know what has happened, but South Carolina kind
of flipped the switch on us a little bit.

Speaker 6 (22:53):
Right.

Speaker 2 (22:54):
How do you feel about going down there then to
some Saturday Well, I'm I'm actually I think this to
be a start of something new. It's gonna be his
cutters first game as a starter. Let's go down there,
let's play hard, Let's get this victory and come on
back and get to rolling. He is Jojo Camp, we
got Drew Franklin, Shannon the Dude. We're right back. This

Into their house.

Speaker 4 (24:20):
Help me J and Jojo the things we do for
our listeners, Jo I will have.

Speaker 2 (24:25):
I'll even bring my own cup nice that Joj during
the break told an awesome story you asked me how
it was in Nebraska. You know, I just went to
Nebraska to watch Dame play in Nebraska. Yes, and then
what did you say?

Speaker 5 (24:38):
So that was one of my very first official visits
that I ever took in college.

Speaker 2 (24:44):
And who is a recruiting coordinator that recruited you in Nebraska?
Vince Marrow was recruiting you to go to Nebraska. So
I guess when he came to Kentucky here you already
knew him, called the phone, Hey how about Kentucky exactly?

Speaker 5 (24:59):
And then I knew some of the guys like uh,
Courtney Love, Marcus mc wilson, those guys was on my visit,
my official visit over at Nebraska. So when those guys
got here as well, that was again someone I knew
and I was able to connect, you know, the kind
of the Florida boys with you know, some of the
Ohio guys.

Speaker 6 (25:16):
And you know, now we won big happy fanswit a minute.

Speaker 2 (25:18):
So you guys were all on a recruiting visit together
to Nebraska with Vince.

Speaker 5 (25:21):
Yeah, Arcus mcwillson, Courtney Love Yes, and you yes, And
he ends up flipping all you guys to come to Kentucky.

Speaker 6 (25:28):
Yes, kind of Florida.

Speaker 5 (25:29):
Yeah, it's a small world. And then now you're going
over there supporting dan Key.

Speaker 2 (25:34):
You know, well we both said it's just an it's
an awesome environment exactly. There's never a dull moment when
the play stops, boom their music going, or they got
T shirts coming in the stand, or they just non
stop the whole time you're there.

Speaker 5 (25:46):
Yeah, but it's nothing like you know, Big Blue Lin. Yeah,
it's nothing like.

Speaker 4 (25:51):
Let's stay with the Nebraska connection. Kentucky went and got
one of their running backs this year, Dante Dallo. Yeah,
I hadn't played as much earlier. We got a little
bit of an injury, but he McAllan looked like a
good one two punch. What do you what do you think?
And uh Patterson behind him and will coxfn get going up.
What do you think of the running back room?

Speaker 2 (26:06):
Now?

Speaker 6 (26:07):
The running back room looks awesome.

Speaker 2 (26:08):
Man.

Speaker 5 (26:09):
I think this is probably the better running back room.
And I think I think in the last you know,
two years, two three years, I believe these guys are
are getting after. I really love the way Seth run.
He runs with like that determination behind his past. I
feel like that'd be a great guy. Come on, coach,

(26:29):
know that wildcat package in there, and let Seth get
back there and do a little bit.

Speaker 6 (26:34):
I know, we got some film up there. Now let's
do it.

Speaker 4 (26:36):
People keep saying he's a hard runner, and I saw
part of it in a drill where it just looked
like he was going full speed in an early part
of practice. Zach Calzada City runs like he's mad at
the earth.

Speaker 6 (26:46):
Yes, what does it mean.

Speaker 4 (26:47):
To just like really get your foot in there and
run with the power and as hard as they do.

Speaker 5 (26:52):
It means a lot because man, it's it's not all
it's not It doesn't happened the way you draw it
up in the sand, right, Every hole is not gonna
be there. So running with that kind of determination, you know,
means a lot because the hole's not gonna get there,
and we still need.

Speaker 6 (27:13):
You know, three four yards, you know, every time. So
and then those.

Speaker 5 (27:17):
Guys are kind of get timid and scary to come
down to tackle you, you know, and then they may
whif on a tackle, or they may not come as
hard as they want to, back leaning in black or
kind of arm tackle you.

Speaker 6 (27:32):
And then those three.

Speaker 5 (27:34):
Four hard, tough earned yards turn into thirty forty home runners,
you know, so I love his style of run. And
plus he got on that number three. Man, I think
since I left, I think he's making the three look, you.

Speaker 2 (27:49):
Know, bringing three back. Yeah, he's bringing three back. So
you know he said you played for Stoops. You know,
the kind of the underlying rumors about him is that
he wants to just run the ball, ground and pound it,
move the change, eat up to the clock. And then
they go down to South Carolina, a team that has
trouble stopping to run, at least they didn't last weekends Missouri.

(28:10):
Is that a fair assessment of coach Stoops? Do you
think he's just a guy that just field control, time possession,
milk the clock as much you can, and run the
ball as much as that what he wants?

Speaker 5 (28:20):
Is that what he wants to do? Yeah, I mean
Coach Stoops. Coach Stoops definitely likes to run. But he
also I think he's one of the better coach, especially
from you know, the stories I hear from other programs
amongst players you know that I know of, He's one
of the better coach head coaches that actually lets lets

(28:41):
the offensive coordinator call the play. So I feel like
he doesn't really interfere or step in with what the
offensive coordinator wants to do. But I mean, if he
had to pick either run or pass, I'm almost one
hundred percent sure he's gonna lay more towards the run game.

Speaker 6 (28:58):
You know, Coach Stoops is just a harden those football coach. Man.
He's a defensive coach.

Speaker 5 (29:02):
He just he just loved tough football players and he
loved playing tough football.

Speaker 6 (29:07):
So, uh, you know why not?

Speaker 2 (29:09):
Well, you mentioned something that people have accused him of
over the years too, that he was meddling with the
play calling and trying to tell the play caller what
to call.

Speaker 6 (29:17):
Come on right, what are you trying to do here? Man?
I just told you I love going to the football facility.
Take care. You know my doctors and my family. Come
on out right, Why are you trying to do me
like this?

Speaker 4 (29:27):
Trying trying to get you in trouble?

Speaker 6 (29:29):
Exactly?

Speaker 5 (29:30):
But now, coach is a is a great coach, and
I mean if he feels like, you know, something to
work well or something to fit, you know, he's gonna
step in. But for the most part, he he lets
the uh, everybody got the job to do from you know,
the lifting, coaches, the offensive coordinator, defensive coordinator, the gas,
the ball ble. Everybody got a job and everybody plays

(29:53):
their part. And he's definitely one of those coaches that's
gonna you know, let you.

Speaker 6 (29:57):
Do your job.

Speaker 4 (29:58):
Everybody knows the importance of an offensive line, but Stoops,
especially this year, made it made it a top priority
to go out and rebuild. It hadn't been what it
had been the last couple of seasons. So that's the
focal point of the offense when you had your big games.
That's back when the offensive line was kind of the
beginning of the big blue wall. Just how important other
than just you got to be able to block, having
that identity in that rock, knowing those guys are there

(30:19):
for you, and how big a part of this cultures
have been. How important is it that they stick to
that and keep that going exactly.

Speaker 5 (30:24):
It's very important because you know, when you out there,
especially as a running back, you have to have faith
in your line and you got you got. You have
to know that these guys are going to get to
their spots. Everybody has a job to do. You don't
want to as a running back, you don't not want
to trust, you know, the guys in front of it,
because then what does that happen? You start playing a
little unorthodox, you start freestyling, you start going uh places

(30:47):
where the block is not going to be that you're
going to be back there trying to, you know, create
something that you don't need to do. You need to
just trust the process, you know, go where the player
is design and believe that eventually gonna hit one.

Speaker 2 (31:00):
You know this is from Navid and glass Tex Machine.
Listening to Joe. Joe gets be pumped up for the game.
You can't need to use him at home to pump
the crowd somehow. Also asking what do the players like
from the crowd to get them going while playing the games.
It's been a big topic this year about the atmosphere
a Kroger Field as a former player, what what can
the fans do?

Speaker 6 (31:20):
I think the biggest part is get loud. Get loud.

Speaker 5 (31:24):
I mean, especially for those defensive players when it's third down,
scream and get loud like your life is depending on them.
I think that's the As a player, you can feel
that energy and that goes back to last not last year,
but the years that I was there, especially that South
Carolina game. What made that atmosphere so special is because

(31:44):
the fans was involved with the game that would prompt that,
you know, you see the special teams dance and waving.

Speaker 6 (31:52):
It's because the whole atmosphere of the stadium.

Speaker 5 (31:56):
It's everybody plays a part, you know, everybody plays a part,
and that's what we're.

Speaker 6 (32:00):
Gonna need to feed off that energy to get, you know,
the victory.

Speaker 4 (32:04):
We all talk about the music. There's been a few
complaints from fans, and it's impossible to please you know,
someone in their seventies and someone that's freshman just turning eighteen.
But what matters is that the players are engaged. Who
really cares about We need the players to be at
their best. How in tune to what's actually being played?
Are you are I mean, are you pretty aware of

(32:25):
the songs that are going through? Are you so dialed
in on your assignment it's kind of secondary and you'll
hear it from time to time, or is there moments
where a song comes on and you're like, I need
a little more than what we're doing.

Speaker 5 (32:34):
I mean, I think everything matters, I mean me personally. Yeah,
you're gonna be in a zone and you're gonna you know,
be in your head. But those times where you know
you're not in the game and you're on that sideline,
you still have to be in the game. You still
have to have that energy and you still have to
be ready to go. You can't be on the sideline,
you know, worried about other things that's not involved with

(32:58):
this game. You know, it is real easy to get
side tracked some you know, sometimes you have side conversations
going on. Guy's wondering when I'm getting the game. But
it's always important to stand to him because you never
know when your number is gonna call it. And then
when your number is gonna call, you have to be
ready to go do something. You know, if you if
you're worried about anything else and then your numbers get called,
and then you go out there and make a mistake

(33:20):
and put us back.

Speaker 6 (33:21):
And you know what I'm saying, everything plays a part
in my opinion.

Speaker 2 (33:26):
In my opinion, he is Jojo Kimp former Kentucky Wildcat.
Good perfect time to have him been on South Carolina
Week because he played the he was the hero of
the game. They beat South Carolina kind of changed the
course of UK football a little bit. So it's perfect
week to bring Jojoe in. We got one more segment.
If you want to call and ask him a question,
We'll try to squeeze you in real quick. Eight five
nine two A oh two two eight seven. We're right back.
One more segment. Wrap it up here Kentucky's Port Radio,
Ryan Drew and Shannon, We'll be right back. That's Kentucky

(33:49):
Joe's song where You Got Draw You got name dropped
in a famous Kentucky Joe song, Jojo Jojo with the dance.

Speaker 6 (33:57):
I'm over here doing my little dance right now. I
don't want to You.

Speaker 2 (34:02):
Didn't know you were famous from a Kentucky Joe song.

Speaker 6 (34:04):
Yeah, I didn't know that.

Speaker 5 (34:06):
It's crazy because last time I was on, Billy told
me it was a fan that had a cat name
after me as well. So I really appreciate all the
love that the fans are giving me. It feels amazing.
And that was one of the reasons why I chose
to come to Kentucky, just because I didn't want to
go to a program just to be another number. I

(34:26):
wanted to go somewhere where I'll forever be remembered. Yes,
you know, change the culture. That's all part of changing
the culture and being a difference maker.

Speaker 2 (34:34):
We're a live at Cast Bar and Grill. We got
a nice lunch crowd here for Wings Day, Dollar Wings

he's listening. Yeah, you let you come to the show.

Speaker 6 (36:12):
No legends had to make sure.

Speaker 2 (36:14):
Yeah, the legendary doctor Hamilton and Shannon.

Speaker 4 (36:17):
Ryan keeps talking about the Reds, But who's the hottest
team in baseball.

Speaker 3 (36:20):
Right in the Atlanta Braves won ten strand comes on.
As soon as the Braves got eliminated from the playoffs,
they decided.

Speaker 2 (36:26):
To get get hot. That's right, so they can finish fourteen.
And I want to read you just a couple things
from the Avision Glass text machine. Jojo would be great
on the football pregame show. I'm loving this hour with Jojo.
Loving this Jojo kimp interview. Dude is getting me fired up.
Jojo has helped coach my son in flag football for
a few seasons. His energy and excitement with them is awesome.

(36:50):
So I think the fan base needs this energy you're
bringing today because I think, you know, we've been down
a little bit. We got a cup, got a big
winnable game come up on Saturday. We needed to hear
this from you. I think today, man, why not change
the game.

Speaker 6 (37:03):
Why not us? Like I said Drew Ryan, I think
we should start a hashtag. Let's do fourth quarter.

Speaker 4 (37:13):
Joe, fourth quarter?

Speaker 6 (37:14):
Jojo, fourth quarter Jojoe. You know, why not let me
get out there on the field, blue white. Let's get
the fans. You know, activated you know.

Speaker 4 (37:22):
It's no secret they need a little help over there.
I'll say it so you don't have to. You can't
be critical. They need help, and you have someone right here,
he's one call away. Let's not overthink this. What you
do is you take the microphone. All right, there's a
little button on the bottom that says on in between
the third and the fourth quarters.

Speaker 6 (37:39):
You hit that on.

Speaker 4 (37:40):
Are you handed to Jojo Kemp? And you say, Jojo,
you got about a minute? Go fire him up. Go
all the blue whites, all the why nots, and then
a sob guys, let's go.

Speaker 2 (37:51):
As soon as you're done, you fire up grow Street
just as soon as you're done.

Speaker 4 (37:55):
Marcus McClinton used to do it. He did a good job.
Nothing against him. Joe's a little more recent lit, a
little more name recognition with the youth. I mean that
all due respect to him, but we need some we
need some new juice in there. And as everyone can
hear on this Wednesday morning radio show where we're just
looking at pouring rain outside, we already hear how much
energy he's bringing. So why not give Jojo the why

(38:15):
why not?

Speaker 5 (38:16):
Us uh susan slash Miss Barhart. Come on, have your
people call my people. Let's let's make it happen.

Speaker 6 (38:23):
Why not? It's right there.

Speaker 4 (38:25):
I'm sure Mitch is listening.

Speaker 6 (38:26):
Well, where are you at.

Speaker 2 (38:28):
They're trying to find ways to approve the atmosphere. We're
giving you an idea right here. Here's one day. Give
Jojo a spot to get everybody fired up going into
the fourth quarter or going into halftime or whatever it is.
Let you do your thing.

Speaker 6 (38:41):
Picture this now we're gonna shot, right, yeah, we we're
just asking for a shot.

Speaker 4 (38:44):
South Carolina is away this week. I doubt South Carolina.

Speaker 6 (38:47):
Will give Jojoe.

Speaker 4 (38:48):
That would be really cool. But imagine we're playing South
Carolina home at night and it's it's a hard fight
game like it always is. It's sloppy, We're going in
the fourth quarter, it's a field goal game, and Jojo
runs out in his black jersey with its chrome helmet.
This chrome helmet, he yells with everyone's to yell. That's
kid friendly. And then we play Grove Street and win
by thirty.

Speaker 6 (39:08):
That's call. That's what would happen. That's go.

Speaker 2 (39:11):
You know, every stateum in the country when they've got
a former big star there, they always show them and
the guy does the you know, let's go, let's go,
let's go. It works, it works. Why not use you then?

Speaker 6 (39:21):
Exactly?

Speaker 2 (39:22):
Why not?

Speaker 5 (39:23):
Let's change the game. It's not too late. We're still
in the middle of a season. Let's let's do it.
I think I think we can get it down though,
So I think I know we can get it done.
I think I know the answer to this.

Speaker 4 (39:32):
But are you like this all the time? I mean,
we're doing a radio show, so you kind of got
to bring energy. But if I were to just see
you out on the on the street, I feel like
this is the same version of Jojo we would get twenty.

Speaker 6 (39:41):
Four to seven, twenty four to seven. I mean, you
see me in in the O R room, You're gonna
get this? Why why not? Why not left? Why not?
Let's fix it? Why not?

Speaker 5 (39:54):
The thing is I get all the time, especially early
in the morning. It was like especially like you know,
the nurses and you know, stuff like that, you need
any coffee?

Speaker 6 (40:04):
You good? I'm like, oh no, no, no, no, you
don't want You don't want to see Jojo with caffeine.

Speaker 2 (40:10):
You don't want to see me with Jojo wakes up
this way.

Speaker 6 (40:13):
I woke up like this.

Speaker 4 (40:15):
I thought that was the case.

Speaker 2 (40:17):
Let me get one more plug and then we're gonna roll.
We get ready to wrap it up. We're at ham
Days and Lebanon tomorrow. It's our third or fourth year
in a row we've gone down here to ham Days.
Always love going down there. They feed us those country
hamd biscuits drew and they're awesome. Uh, let's see what
the weather does. And we moved inside last year we
were down there. Uh, we're not gonna have the haybeil
tossing contest. Looks that we're gonna have a hog calling
contest that we're gonna just de thenate Billy the winner

(40:39):
just getting just handing handing the trophy. Let him do it.

Speaker 5 (40:42):
Billy had promised me that he was gonna teach me
the haybail throwing. So I'm still holding him to it. Billy,
where you at Call my phone. I've been looking for you, buddy.

Speaker 2 (40:51):
Yeah, he's all high and mighty because he won the haybeil.

Speaker 6 (40:54):
I'm looking.

Speaker 4 (40:54):
It's on the top shelf up here, but there's a
photo of him winning it up there at the top.

Speaker 2 (40:58):
Yeah, so he's quite a big time. So come and
see us out at the ham Days and Lebanon tomorrow.
And then we're at Bywater Farm in Georgetown on Friday.
Always a big show out there, So back to back
live shows and I'm looking forward to it.

Speaker 4 (41:08):
Drew, two fun ones with two of my favorite places
to eat at a show. We have the country ham
biscuits tomorrow that I've already been thinking about all week,
and then at the Aboutwater Farms we get those are
the apples.

Speaker 2 (41:19):
Apple cinnamon, apple cider donuts.

Speaker 4 (41:21):
Yeah, so definitely come see us, and the Bywater one
especially just it's it. It almost feels like the turn
of fall a little bit you get out there. May
It's probably because we're at a pumpkin patch, but it
does feel like a big part of football season when
we do that show because we've done it for so
many years out there.

Speaker 2 (41:35):
So Jojo, we got one minute. He gets your chance,
talk to the fan base, talk to the coaches. We
