Welcome everyone.
Speaker 3 (00:31):
It is Kentucky Sports Radio, Thursday, September the fourth.
Speaker 2 (00:35):
I'm Matt Jones here in Bowling Green.
Speaker 3 (00:38):
Kentucky at the Mint with DraftKings to get you ready
for the first NFL game of the season to nine
Eagles and Cowboys. We are located right off of Scottsville
Road near the mall, a DraftKings sports book.
Speaker 2 (00:52):
There's a tough top golf swing suite.
Speaker 3 (00:55):
I didn't realize that horse racing wagering, a circle winner,
circle bar, and much more for five hundred ways to
win here at the Mint in Bowling Green. Great crowd
this morning on a terribly rainy day outside.
Speaker 2 (01:08):
I feel like every time we come.
Speaker 3 (01:10):
Every time we come to Bowling Green it pours rain, unfortunately,
but we are here and you give shallow Clark's pumpings

Speaker 3 (01:27):
Great crowd this morning. We had some had some folks.
Unfortunately he couldn't get out. Forgot that you have to
be twenty one to come uh to a gaming facility.
But nevertheless, Uh Kentucky fans everywhere, and even in this
part of the state.
Speaker 2 (01:40):
Wherever wherever you go blues there.
Speaker 4 (01:42):
A lot of red. Usually you get over here in
the topper Land with Louisville not too far away, but
the blue always shows up when we come to Bowling
Green has every time we've been here.
Speaker 3 (01:50):
Leave the western Kentucky fans aside, because I don't think
that's mutually exclusive. What would you say, it's Kentucky Louisville
here in Bowling Green ninety ten? I would say that's right,
because you know who wants to be Ultimately, I mean
Gus is here, one of our bosses, and he's a
Louisville fan and that's terrible. But besides him, I don't
know why you would want to know why you would
(02:11):
want to do that.
Speaker 5 (02:12):
He's got his arms up like what you called me out?
Speaker 2 (02:14):
Yeah, I mean it is.
Speaker 3 (02:15):
It's a terrible decision. Just so you know, he actually
works on the Louisville games.
Speaker 2 (02:18):
Boom boom.
Speaker 4 (02:21):
He was on the Louisville football postgame show this boo.
Speaker 5 (02:25):
I heard he's the mascot.
Speaker 2 (02:28):
No, I'm just kidding.
Speaker 3 (02:29):
It was nice for him to make sure we'd get situated,
but glad to be in Bowling Green. I was trying
to think of the times we've been here, Ryan, right,
we we've been here.
Speaker 4 (02:37):
We were here last year, we were what can you
move to the Ard Place with Janey's milk Barn, Barry
Barn with the milk bar.
Speaker 2 (02:45):
That's right, we've done. Uh.
Speaker 3 (02:48):
I feel like we did a restaurant here once. What
that yes equipment place. I'm sure that Marsha knows everywhere
we know.
Speaker 2 (02:57):
Marshall, listen, you'll like this. Marcia.
Speaker 3 (02:59):
I was in you know, as as with most at
the time, forty six year old men. When I went
to Uh, when I went to your my mom came
and cleaned out my house.
Speaker 2 (03:09):
That's you know, that's what that's what most middle aged
men do.
Speaker 3 (03:12):
And she was going through my room of junk and
like helping me get rid of stuff.
Speaker 2 (03:17):
But one of the things.
Speaker 3 (03:18):
We found which we did not get rid of, is
that very nice photo album you've given me of the
tours we've taken sometimes over the years.
Speaker 2 (03:25):
And I went back and looked at all the places
we've been. It's really amazing.
Speaker 4 (03:29):
Yeah, I've got one that Marsha made for me and
it includes a lot of our stops down in Nashville
when she's been down there. So I was trying to
think of her in Bowling Green. One of our early
first shows we ever did was at a golf course
here in Bowling Green and it was like one hundred
and fifty degrees. Yeah, that's right, like super hot. We
were outside.
Speaker 3 (03:44):
I forgot about that, and we were we were at
a sports bar at one point, I think downtown.
Speaker 2 (03:49):
So we've we've been. We've been here quite a bit.
I eat here a lot. In my very the grill,
what's it Montana? Is that right? I ended up and
then there was a sport bar.
Speaker 3 (04:00):
Somebody took me to double Dogs dogs at a place
I was just there.
Speaker 2 (04:06):
A few months ago.
Speaker 3 (04:06):
So you never know where you're gonna end up in
Bowlie Greenes is Western good this year?
Speaker 2 (04:11):
Yes?
Speaker 5 (04:11):
All right, we'll do offense. New quarterback, We're good.
Speaker 2 (04:14):
Maverick, his name's Maverick. That's a good name for a quarterback.
That is a good name. All right.
Speaker 3 (04:19):
So if I'm nine two eight twenty two eighty seven,
a lot of stuff to get to. You got your
first NFL game tonight, which we'll touch on, but I
think two things I want to start with. First of all,
it is amazing. You know, we had our first football
game Saturday. We play Old miss Uh this coming Saturday.
There's a lot going on. We launched an NFL podcast yesterday,
(04:42):
and everywhere I went yesterday, all anybody wanted to ask
me was, Okay, how's the traffic situation now after your
community meet? That's it's amazing what people focus on. I
walked out of my house. There were these two sweet
ladies who they could not have been sweeter, and they
were coming to the park and they turned off my
road and they rolled down the window and they say, Matt,
(05:04):
where should we park where we won't upset you?
Speaker 4 (05:08):
How sweet is that what you tell them?
Speaker 2 (05:11):
Not in my drive, I said, I showed them the place.
Speaker 3 (05:15):
By the time I got home later that day, they
had put signs up that said no parking on the
other side of the road. Nevertheless, a bunch of vagrant
criminals were still parking on that side of the road.
But never It's a good start. So that's getting better.
But I'm glad today were so sweet. And one of
them said that she listens every day. She even got
a little saucy drew. She said, I go to bed
(05:36):
with you every single night. That's what she said.
Speaker 2 (05:38):
Wow, And I was like, I wondered who that was.
But it was very sweet.
Speaker 5 (05:43):
Well, at least your message is getting across. Even if
you are, it kind of sounds like you put some
fear in people. They're having to ask if they're allowed
to park therey now people know.
Speaker 4 (05:51):
Now they know I did hear somebody about your parking situations.
Go bring this up. They in a busy day like
Saturday or Sunday, they can't get in there in toll
cars away Because it was brought.
Speaker 2 (06:01):
Up at the meeting, truck couldn't even fit back.
Speaker 4 (06:05):
They couldn't sit back in there to get them.
Speaker 2 (06:06):
It's uh, you know, that's why I'm saying arrest.
Speaker 3 (06:09):
That's the only that's the only present, multi felony arrest.
And then I'll be uh, I'll be satisfied. Kentucky Old
Mess play Saturday three point thirty. We've talked a lot
about it. Lane Kiffin was asked more about the game yesterday.
He had three comments where I thought, which I thought
were interesting and I thought, Drew, we're all sort of
(06:29):
passive aggressive regular Lane Kiffinness. First of all, he compared
Zach Kyle Zaida to Joe Flacco. He said, he's been playing.
It's he's been playing for fourteen years. It was kind
of making a hit like should this guy still be
playing football? And he said, but the thing about him
(06:50):
is he won't beat you or excuse me, he won't
lose the game for you.
Speaker 2 (06:54):
We have to I think he said, we have to
make him make plays.
Speaker 3 (06:58):
So I think that gives you a hint that they're
going to say, hey, Zach, can you throw the ball
downfield on us?
Speaker 2 (07:05):
We don't necessarily think you can. Yeah.
Speaker 5 (07:07):
And I don't like when guys get digs on my team.
But I'll admit I laughed at the Joe Flacco comment.
He even said, guy's thrown for like nine thousand yards,
really leaning into how much football Kalsad has played. But
the reason he's gonna make Kalasada throw it deep is
because I hate to say Kalsada lost A and M
the game there, but A and M was ranked eleventh
at Oxford in four or five years ago, and Kalsata
(07:28):
threw two fourth quarter interceptions trying to make plays. So
so Kiffin has seen it happen and he's gonna try
to recreate that.
Speaker 4 (07:33):
And we really saw nothing for the title game that
gives you any confidence that Kentucky can do that go
downfield and pull the ball downfield right now.
Speaker 2 (07:40):
Yeah, we'll see what they do.
Speaker 3 (07:41):
But he was it was clear he kind of thought
that he was given a hit, a little dig at
Kawsatta being in college as long. He was asked about
Kentucky's performance in the Toledo game and he said, I
do not care.
Speaker 2 (07:53):
And it was interesting. I don't.
Speaker 3 (07:54):
I think he meant this as a compliment, but you
can also take it not as a compliment. But I
do think he meant it as a cop He said
something to the effect of with a Mark Stoops team,
you can never judge them based on what they did
the week before, which.
Speaker 2 (08:09):
Honestly is probably true.
Speaker 3 (08:10):
I mean, his point was they got absolutely demolished by
South Carolina last year and then went down to Old
Miss and won the game. And he said, also, they
don't even necessarily play the same from one week to
the other. They'll have one style one week and then
a different style the next week. Now, I think he
meant that as a compliment, basically saying, don't read too
(08:30):
much into the fact that the Toledo game didn't necessarily
go great. But you could also see it to say,
like with Mark, you kind of never know whether the
team's going.
Speaker 2 (08:39):
To show up or not.
Speaker 5 (08:40):
You know, he all people knows. I think O Miss
was like a thirteen and a half point favorite last
year in that game. You lose a home two years
before that in Oxford, you're a big favorite. You know,
you used to count in the Kentucky game kind of
is a win and if not for a little penalty,
you've won to it. Kiffin, of all coaches in the league,
knows not to sleep on Kentucky.
Speaker 4 (08:57):
You know that. I can see why Kiffin says that.
I think all the other coaches in the SEC might
be saying, we know exactly what markin.
Speaker 2 (09:03):
He did say.
Speaker 3 (09:04):
He did say, well, I think he meant you don't
know what the effort's gonna be from game.
Speaker 2 (09:09):
That's how I said.
Speaker 3 (09:10):
He did say though, they hit as hard as any
team in the league.
Speaker 2 (09:13):
He said, and that is still the case this year.
Speaker 3 (09:15):
He was like, even when they don't play well, they
hit as hard as any team in the league. And
he said our players have to know that.
Speaker 4 (09:22):
And they had to get back to that. I think
they straight away from that last year, maybe the last
two years. Bill used to be with their m o'na,
We're gonna be tough, we're gonna be strong, we can
We're gonna be more physical than you are. Okay, get
back to that type of football. Get back to that
Mark Stuke type of football.
Speaker 3 (09:36):
And then he also said what we've sort of hinted
at or thought about in the show. He said, he
was explicit, we have prepared for this game all summer. Yep,
he said, we watched Kentucky film all summer. That game
has stuck with us all summer to the returning players.
We've brought this game back all summer, and he said
(09:58):
we are more than his words were. We're are more
prepared for this game than we've been for a game
in a long time. You know, Kifvin's really smart, you know,
he may be whatever, but I respect people that are smart.
Speaker 2 (10:16):
When it comes to college coaches.
Speaker 3 (10:17):
I would put Lane Kiffen in like the top ten
of just raw intelligence. And so that makes me a
little nervous if they spend all summer getting ready for it.
Speaker 5 (10:26):
Yeah, you gotta target from still in the one last
year that essentially ended their playoff hopes. This year, they're
not as much as considered a playoff consider as they
were a year ago, but they're like fifteenth twenty and
something like that. And then their schedule this year is
really back heavy. So if they can win this game,
they have a little bit of a cushion more non
conference teams like canother win a ble SEC game, So
(10:48):
they could really be looking at making the turn with
an undefeated record. If they can win this one and.
Speaker 3 (10:52):
A hang on fore and they I think they got
a loaded they should be five and zero and then
they you're right, they play like three or four very
difficult games the end of the year. But if you're
old missing you have any dreams of making the Fight
of the playoff, you cannot lose this game for a
second year in a row. And if you're Lane Kiffin
and you want to continue to get given bajillions of
dollars for nil, like, you gotta beat Kentucky and you
(11:13):
can't lose to him two years in a row.
Speaker 4 (11:15):
Dude, we knew they've been waiting all summer for this rematch.
That's what scares me to death about this game. They
not only want to win, they want to embarrass Kentucky.
They want to bury Kentucky. And he will He'll just
keep piling it on if he gets a chance.
Speaker 3 (11:27):
There were there was one of the SEC podcasts said
there have been a couple of assistant coaches in sort
of anonymous comments, say Lane Kiffin wants to use the
exact words you just did embarrass Kentucky on Saturday again.
So you know I will say that if you're in
(11:47):
the game in the fourth quarter, you have a chance.
What is more likely we're in the fourth Let's not
leave us sideway in the game in the fourth quarter,
where you have a chance, maybe a turnover here there
or embarrassed.
Speaker 5 (12:02):
I think they're in it. That defense gave me a
lot of hope last week. Yeah, that's that's what's giving
me confidence this week. They have a new quarterback that
they've been looking forward to see what they have for
a while. He waited his turn behind Dart. They won
like seventy to one last week, but he did throw
two interceptions against the Georgia State team. So if they
can create some pressure and maybe get him to have
a couple more turnovers, throw a few more picks than
(12:23):
I think, you're in it.
Speaker 4 (12:24):
You know, it's supposed to rain a lot Saturday morning,
but supposed to quit by the afternoon.
Speaker 2 (12:28):
So that is the current weather.
Speaker 3 (12:29):
Right, It's like raining all night Friday night, stop around
pregame show time, right, isn't that what the idea is?
Speaker 4 (12:37):
And see I hope it just continues to rain. I
think just pouring out house.
Speaker 2 (12:40):
We have a business that needs people there just for
the record, but go ahead.
Speaker 4 (12:44):
But I think on the field, you know, we're just
gonna be able to ground and pound it in some
nasty weather. I think that plays to our favorite They
can't throw it around everywhere.
Speaker 2 (12:51):
We would lie.
Speaker 3 (12:52):
I mean, I think we would prefer if you're just
talking about winning the game, you would prefer if not.
Speaker 2 (12:58):
Nasty weather, it be slipper. I mean, like things to
slow them down.
Speaker 5 (13:02):
Right, if we're just talking about winning the game and
not the experience. Kentucky probably wants a hurricane every Saturday
to just slow it up, fuck it up. But this one,
especially against Ole Miss, a team with some tempo new quarterback,
I mean we would want the worst weather. Yeah, I
mean we've our first shutout in forever last year was
in a lightning delay, So we're good under the elements.
Speaker 6 (13:22):
Now.
Speaker 3 (13:22):
I might come on the postgame show Saturday night with
a mia culpa and say I was wrong, but I
agree with you that I think they have a better
chance of being in this game than getting just demolished
because of our defense. I mean, ultimately, our defense tends
to keep us in games. Now, the counter to that
is if you go back and look at the years
(13:43):
that we've had decent teams, but we've been kind of embarrassed.
It's playing teams like Old Miss, Like teams with tempo
have always get We've always actually played pretty well against
the Georgias of the world and the Alabama's like teams
that pound you. It's teams like this that have always
given us problems.
Speaker 2 (14:00):
But we did beat them last year.
Speaker 5 (14:01):
So yeah, they're gonna have more speed, They're probably better
on the outside. But I think Kentucky and the trenches,
if they play anything like they did last week against Toledo,
can carry it up a level to an SEC opponent.
I mean, they were really getting after Toledo. If they
can keep that up, Kentucky will be okay.
Speaker 4 (14:15):
I thought the defense was great against Toledo. They gave
up that last touchdown at the end of the game
with like what two minutes left of kind of a
meaningless touchdown up to that point, I thought the defense proved, man,
they can go out and play as good as anybody
in the SEC. So I think the defense will keep
them in a lot of these games this season.
Speaker 3 (14:29):
Yeah, I think it were like we don't give I
think a lot of people have not given the defense
the credit for the performance.
Speaker 4 (14:36):
Because of that last last touchdown.
Speaker 3 (14:37):
And I think that last I'm not gonna say it
last touchdown was meaningless, but I think it was kind
of meaningless because I think they were you know, they
were in prevent I don't you know. I don't love
when they do that, but I I wasn't as concerned
about that as everybody else. If I'm nine two eight
oh twenty two eighty seven text machine seven seven two
seven seven four five two five four. Great crowd here
(14:59):
at the p in Bowling Green at the Draft Kings
Sports Book. We'll take a break, be right back. It's
Kentucky Sports Radio.
Speaker 2 (15:08):
We'll come back.
Speaker 3 (15:08):
It is Kentucky Sports Radio here at the Mint in
Bowling Green.
Speaker 2 (15:12):
I just saw we talked.
Speaker 3 (15:14):
We had this guy here last year from Draft Kings
who is from London. I always like, I think it's
a direct flight from London to Bowling Green?
Speaker 4 (15:21):
Is it really?
Speaker 3 (15:22):
And uh, you know you you they land it right
out here. And so he told me he was going
to Kentucky Downs, which is their partner for racing this afternoon,
which should be exciting.
Speaker 5 (15:32):
He should go to the our London if that's true.
Speaker 2 (15:36):
Yeah, you can see that's exactly right.
Speaker 3 (15:39):
Uh, but that's very very nice him to come down.
If you want good food and entertainment. The Winner Circle
Bar features the best cocktails and drinks for a night
out in Bowling Green right here and with all these TVs.
Great place to watch the Games UK and the NFL tonight.
Speaker 5 (15:54):
You can make your bets here.
Speaker 3 (15:56):
One person writes, Matt the best Indian restaurant in the
state in Bowling Green India Oven. I've actually heard that
people don't know how many people have you all eaten there?
I don't know how many people. Not everybody likes Indian food.
Speaker 2 (16:09):
I do.
Speaker 3 (16:10):
The one dude, the kid that sits in his car
and does the TikTok videos, what's his name, Luke Luke.
Speaker 2 (16:16):
Yeah, he seems like such a nice guy.
Speaker 3 (16:17):
He reviewed that and he was like, I've never had
India food. I don't know what this is gonna be.
And he went to the India Oven. I was like,
you know what, I'm gonna have to do that sometimes
I'd never thought of that, but I will. Well, you
don't like Indian food, true?
Speaker 4 (16:30):
And do you took us to a place in Seattle
though I ate it for the first time.
Speaker 2 (16:34):
You ordered for me, Yeah, I just got you chicken.
What is it? The thing that's just chicken and rice?
And I got the most basic thing I could, which is.
Speaker 4 (16:41):
Perfect for me. Mister basic Billy, Basic I like it.
Speaker 3 (16:44):
That's true for you, don't You don't have the most
sophisticated dude in the world.
Speaker 4 (16:48):
Yeah, I like Subway.
Speaker 5 (16:50):
It can be tough eating with Shannon, Ryan and Mario
on the RD.
Speaker 2 (16:52):
That is true. Shit.
Speaker 3 (16:54):
Shan and Ryan and Mario are nice people, but they
I mean, they have the worst food choices collective.
Speaker 4 (17:01):
We were in Bowling Green and you let Shannon pick
any restaurant in this town to go to lunch one.
Speaker 2 (17:05):
What did he picked? Fazoli's. That's exactly right, he picked Fazoli's.
Speaker 5 (17:12):
Uh.
Speaker 3 (17:12):
And that's the way it goes the college I wanted
to note this morning some breaking news I got.
Speaker 2 (17:18):
I got. Uh.
Speaker 3 (17:20):
Mario would say, they called me an unk this morning
on Twitter because College foot the college basketball video game. Okay,
they were gonna, you know, the weir announcements e A
Sports We're gonna do it. Well, it turns out a
lot of colleges said, we don't want to do it
with EA Sports. We want to do it with two
K and I didn't And I've heard of both, but
(17:41):
they're different things. And I guess now sports e A
Sports is abandoning the college basketball thing.
Speaker 2 (17:47):
And I said, well, this is awful. E A Sports,
We're not gonna get it.
Speaker 3 (17:50):
And then a bunch of people are like, listen, old man,
two K's better anyway?
Speaker 2 (17:54):
Is two K better? It depends well either way.
Speaker 3 (17:59):
It's gonna now be at least four or five years
before you get the college basketball video game.
Speaker 2 (18:03):
Unfortunately, but apparently UK was one.
Speaker 4 (18:05):
Of the schools.
Speaker 3 (18:06):
There were schools holding out saying we want a deal
from this other one, UK being one. I mean, you
can't really do the basketball video game without UK, Douke,
et cetera.
Speaker 5 (18:16):
So yeah, and some schools have been signed to two
K for a few years. They already have colleges on there. EA.
They made good basketball games, and I was a kid.
I think the last good one was in like ninety five.
But two k's been dominating the basketball. So this delay stinks,
but it'll be better for the game that two K's
making it.
Speaker 2 (18:33):
Do you have an opinion on two K versus EA Sports?
I have zero that I didn't think you would.
Speaker 4 (18:38):
But the one time Mario got actually a little emotional
on the trip down here this morning when he saw
that story that two K was going to do it
instead of EA Sports, I kind of got him going
a little bit.
Speaker 3 (18:48):
Well, I hope they at least do one, because I mean,
I I think it's great for the sport. I think,
you know, obviously people will play it. I'd like to
have it, even though I don't really play. I'll buy
it like I did that. One thing was what was
the video game in Redemption? Red Dead Redemption? I played
it one time and I couldn't get on my horse
and I just stopped. The horse is a big part
of that game. Yeah, but they should just do it automatically.
(19:09):
Why did they make it so hard for me to
get on the horse? And I just I couldn't do it?
So I moved on. If I'm nine two twenty two
eighty seven, Who's up next?
Speaker 4 (19:17):
Adam?
Speaker 3 (19:18):
Is I even left, by the way my PlayStation and
my ex girlfriend's apartment in New York. I don't even
have it anymore. I think I used it twice. But
go ahead, Adam is up first?
Speaker 2 (19:27):
Adam? Go ahead? Adam looks up?
Speaker 7 (19:30):
Guys a Indian oven yes, uh, being a former ball
Green resident that will not let you down.
Speaker 2 (19:38):
You gotta try that. I like it, well, I will
try it sometime.
Speaker 7 (19:43):
What going going into the old miss games are y'all.
The Saturday moved the needle for you at all. Uh No,
as far as.
Speaker 2 (19:56):
Didn't change my opinion one way or the other.
Speaker 3 (19:58):
I'm not any more optimist or any more pessimistic about
UK football based on Saturday. Literally, they performed exactly as
I thought they would. I thought we would win. I
thought we would win by like one touchdown. I thought
it would be an ugly game, and it happened. So
for me and you guys can jump in for me, Ryan,
(20:21):
it's all about this Saturday. If they do, they don't
have to win this Saturday for me still to be
interested and excited about the season. But if they get
their ass handed to them, and we all know what
that's like.
Speaker 2 (20:34):
I don't mean just I don't even mean like two touchdowns.
Speaker 3 (20:38):
I mean if we're not competitive, then I'm like, uh oh,
that's kind of where I am for this week.
Speaker 4 (20:46):
I'm kind of with you. We all agree with the defense.
I think it's gonna be able to keep you in
the ballgame. I think the defense can play with and
slow down on miss Our offense. I think we're still
looking for some answers.
Speaker 2 (20:55):
You know what.
Speaker 4 (20:55):
They didn't have a passing game at all, they're gonna
have to to compete in the SEC, so I think
we'll find out pretty early how things are gonna shape
out in that game.
Speaker 5 (21:03):
Yeah, the first game didn't change my opinion too much,
but I'll admit to being pretty disappointed in eighty yards
passing and it being ten points through three quarters and
you needed the interception.
Speaker 2 (21:13):
Okay, but you had to be.
Speaker 5 (21:16):
Yeah, to balance it out. It's disappointed. I was in
the offense and the questions the defense. I was kind
of like, whoa, Yeah, So I think they're gonna be
able to keep teams in it to cover some of
the offense concerns.
Speaker 2 (21:27):
The thing just people have to remember about this game.
Speaker 3 (21:29):
The reason this game Saturday I think is so important
for the fans and just overall moment is next week
you play an Eastern Michigan team that is not good.
So I don't really know that next week is gonna
change it all. Then we have a bye week, right
then we go to South Carolina and Georgia back to back.
I mean we go to like two teams that are
right now ranked in the top twelve.
Speaker 2 (21:51):
So then I think we play Texas.
Speaker 3 (21:54):
Yeah, so this games that we really have a shot
to win come at the end of the schedule. We
are used to as a fan base having the games
we could win being at the beginning of the schedule. Yeah,
so I think I just worry if we don't give
some sign of life in these early games. The moment
(22:15):
October fifteenth hits and we played per Due October twenty
fifth in basketball, I mean, we know where the attention
to this fan base will go if that football team,
I mean, that's just what's gonna happen.
Speaker 5 (22:26):
I think you have to beat old mister South Carolina.
You can't have zero SEC wins going into Georgia, Texas, Tennessee.
You gotta win either Saturday or at South Carolina. I mean,
you could just remember you want to surprise me with
tex You're going.
Speaker 3 (22:40):
You're playing South Carol, Old Miss South Carolina, Georgia, and Texas,
four teams that like legitimately think they're going to the
playoffs in your first four SEC games.
Speaker 2 (22:52):
Now you do get Tennessee.
Speaker 3 (22:53):
Florida, Vandy, and Auburn at the back end, but you're
playing these powerhouses at the.
Speaker 2 (22:59):
Front end, and that makes it tough.
Speaker 3 (23:00):
If I'm nine two eight oh twenty two eighty seven
we'll talk a little basketball when we return here at
the Mint and Bowling Green.
Speaker 2 (23:06):
This is Kentucky Sports Radio. Welcome back Tugy Sports Radio
here at Chas Bar and Real.
Speaker 3 (23:12):
If I'm nine two eight oh twenty two eighty seven,
if you are in Lexington tonight, it is the NFL kickoff.
Let me tell you what they're doing, what we're doing
at ks Bar. First of all, you know, I don't know.
I don't drink, so I don't really know what these
price up people tell me. This is good bucket a
beer for twelve dollars. Apparently that's good.
Speaker 4 (23:30):
That is really good.
Speaker 2 (23:31):
Yes, then we're having.
Speaker 3 (23:33):
Three dollars Mark Mark stoops drinks like Mark.
Speaker 2 (23:38):
Never mind.
Speaker 3 (23:39):
The point is it's margarita and it's three dollars, and
then there's like blueberry lemonade three dollars.
Speaker 2 (23:44):
It's sponsored by Cornbrad Hemp.
Speaker 3 (23:46):
By the way, they're also giving away a two, so
they cannot give the new Hemp seltzers, right, but they
still want to be able to give something away. So
someone that watches the game tonight at KS Bar will
get two hundred and fifty dollars gift guard licker Barn,
which they would like you to use on those seltzers,
but in theory you can use them on whatever you want.
So they just told me that this morning and we
(24:07):
hadn't literally done an ad, so I was kind of busy.
I said, Mario, would you like to do an ad?
Mario did his first ad this morning on social he's
editing right now. Mario's never done an ad. Marios never
hit list.
Speaker 4 (24:20):
Oh, he killed it.
Speaker 2 (24:21):
He's talking, he keeps coming.
Speaker 3 (24:23):
He kept came up to me and was like, I
killed it, which he's not usually like that. Usually he's
a little self conscious. I'm gonna judge this ad. We'll
see how good it is. But watch his ad on
Live when he posted he's doing he did an ad
today for the gift card. So that's if you're in
Lexington and if you're hearing Bowling Green, come watch it
here at the Mint. At the Mint part of the
(24:45):
Draft Kings sports book. Here in Bowling Green. If I'm nine,
two eighth twenty two eighty seven, I wanna go to
Phons the Top Basketball for just a second. Though, Mark's
story at the Hair Leader did a story where he
basically was like that.
Speaker 2 (24:58):
He said.
Speaker 3 (24:58):
The storyline for preseason for Kentucky basketball is who is
the fifth starter. He was taking it as a given
that when the season starts, four people were going to start.
Speaker 2 (25:08):
Jalen Lowe otega Oway.
Speaker 3 (25:10):
He says, Muhammed Diabate, he's hearing is a given to start,
which was not necessarily what I was hearing. But let
me just say that. Let's just say for purposes of argument,
he's correct. And he said Garrison start at the beginning
of the year, maybe molding into quaintance after his injury
is done. So let's just assume he's right about that.
He then said he think there's five people who could
(25:32):
take that third spot. Roll Basically, it could be Jasper Johnson,
it could be Denzel Aberdeen, it could be Colin Chandler,
it could be Cam Williams. And he even said he
thought it could be Yellovic. And you could play Diabat
at the three. You'd be going uber big if you
did that, but not crazy considering all those guys can shoot.
(25:53):
To me a favor Drew. Those are the five contenders,
ranked the order one to five of likelihood of starting.
Speaker 5 (26:00):
Storrt. I completely agree with uh Mark on the other four,
and I've had the same question about to uh all summer.
I lean Aberdeen first, just because experience, and he has
a ring on his finger, So Aberdeen one. That's not
getting any of the preseason buzz, not knowing how practice
is going. That's just based on his experience.
Speaker 3 (26:19):
By the way, and if that ends up being your team,
you're starting like four of the five players or seniors
and you're not starting any freshman, which that's gotta be.
Is that the first time we will have ever done that?
Speaker 4 (26:34):
Maybe did we have a freshman we start?
Speaker 5 (26:38):
I guess we didn't you Travis Slidon eventually, but.
Speaker 3 (26:41):
Yeah, but yeah, so it would be two straight years
of no freshman. But anyway, so you would say.
Speaker 5 (26:45):
But I mean, I say that, but I have Jasper
Johnson and Colin Chandler like a fraction beneath him on
the list.
Speaker 2 (26:54):
Who's number two? Chandler Chandler over John's.
Speaker 5 (26:59):
Yeah, John will eventually take minutes, but just right away,
being you know, right out of high school, the game's changed.
Speaker 2 (27:06):
I think Aberdeen one, Chandler two, Johnson three.
Speaker 5 (27:10):
And then I'll go Cam Williams and then Yellovick.
Speaker 3 (27:13):
Yeah, okay, what about you? By the way, the only
reason no was not on the list is positions. I
think he's like, he's probably the backup four no matter
who ends up as the starter. That's probably what I
think Mark was thinking.
Speaker 4 (27:27):
So you know, I've said this before. I think it
maybe Aberdeen to start, but I think it's yellowch by
the time we get going. I think he'll end up
being a starter. I think he's a guy that's going
to do this at he's so big he can play
the four the way Pope wants to play the four,
stand in a corner and shoot. I think he's the guy.
So I would go Yellovich one.
Speaker 2 (27:43):
Yelloch one, Aberdeen.
Speaker 3 (27:44):
You think he would go Diabate at the three, Garrison
at the four, Yellovich at the five.
Speaker 4 (27:49):
Du Yeah, I think he wants to a height in
that length and that shoot her in the corner.
Speaker 2 (27:54):
I cannot believe that's who you pick, But go ahead.
Speaker 4 (27:56):
Aberdeen two, and then y'all Chandler, Williams and Johnson, three,
four and five in some order you got Jasper fifth
and in some order. I probably that's the game. Yellovich one.
Speaker 3 (28:07):
You know you could say all five of them in
some order. The point is there, what's the order?
Speaker 4 (28:12):
Yellowvich one, Aberdeen two, Johnson three, Williams four, Chandler.
Speaker 2 (28:17):
Five, Chandler five or five.
Speaker 4 (28:19):
He's a he's a he's a six or seventh man
coming off the bench. That's his role.
Speaker 3 (28:23):
Wow, Okay, all right, So mine is much more like
Drew's than yours.
Speaker 2 (28:29):
I had Johnson at the one.
Speaker 3 (28:31):
I've been talking to enough people around the program that
I'm now I'm gonna move him out of the one.
So I'm gonna say, I'm gonna go I'm gonna say
Aberdeen one again.
Speaker 2 (28:40):
Uh with Drew, I.
Speaker 3 (28:41):
Think that's been a change, and it's based on vibes
i'm hearing from practice. That wouldn't have been my initial inclination.
But I'm gonna say Aberdeen one. I'm gonna go ahead
and say Johnson two. And I could see a world
whereby January or February he gets in the starting lineup.
Speaker 2 (28:56):
But just I'll say, I'll say two.
Speaker 3 (28:58):
I think Chandler's three, and then I think there's a
gap there, kind of like you said, I think I
think those will be the three. Then Cam Williams, I
think he's gonna play, but I think he's gonna play
as a backup three, back up four.
Speaker 2 (29:10):
And then.
Speaker 3 (29:12):
It's not that I don't think Yellovich can be good.
I just Drew think if Yellovich ends up starting, it'll
be over Garrison. I don't think it'll be I don't think.
I don't think they're gonna play de Diabate at the three.
Maybe I'm wrong.
Speaker 2 (29:24):
We'll see. Yeah.
Speaker 5 (29:25):
Also with my list, I don't know the plan for
backup point guard. Like if Aberdeen's your your second point guard,
maybe I don't have him as the starting tours. I
don't know who in practice is is uh running more
point because we don't have a true but.
Speaker 3 (29:41):
Do we know if it's supposed to be Aberdeen or change?
I mean Chandler did I thought did it alright a
little bit.
Speaker 2 (29:46):
At the end of the year.
Speaker 5 (29:47):
Chandler was in a spot. You know, he didn't practice
that spot. He got thrown into it. So if he did,
knowing in May that that's gonna be his role, it's
a different summer if you know you have that spot
he got thrown in. He was like option six last
season and unfortunately you just.
Speaker 4 (29:59):
Completely threw me off on yours well, and Drew kind
of said what I was talking about. I think Chandler
is gonna be that the mix it guard, and he's
not gonna start in front of Low and Otega. I
think Jasper's in the mix it guard. He's not gonna
start in front of Low and Otega. Williams is kind
of a guy behind at the three spot. So I
think Yellowvich is the guy that kind of plays the
four the way Pope wants to four to play. And
(30:19):
that's why I think he'll end up getting on the
floor a lot the Uh.
Speaker 2 (30:22):
By the way, they've started practicing.
Speaker 3 (30:25):
Uh, they've started kind of working out and practicing again,
and I just continue to hear and listen. You're probably
there were some things during the cal Perry era that
you would hear us say every off season so much
that it probably got old. During the cal period era
would be Wow, this team is so talented. We probably
you probably heard that every single time. I mean, here's
what I think you're gonna hear from every single team
(30:47):
of the Pope era. While these are good kids that
work hard, true, because first of all, I think that's
who he's gonna recruit. But secondly, that's all you hear
from people out of Lexington is this group of kids
is awesome and they work insanely are.
Speaker 5 (31:01):
And that's what pub looks like, gonna go out and
get We're just gonna get used to this. Had that
last year, looks like we're gonna have it this year.
And that's just the players. He goes out and recruits.
Speaker 2 (31:09):
Which I like, I mean, better than having guys you
don't like.
Speaker 5 (31:11):
Yeah, and I know they're just now getting back to campus,
but there's some Jack had some notes on ks board
and you just not just Jack everyone. The word around
Low is that he's really stepped up and knows he's
the guy that's got to be the engine of the team,
and he's he's at least in summer workouts filling in
that role so far.
Speaker 2 (31:27):
Who's up next?
Speaker 7 (31:28):
Sam?
Speaker 2 (31:28):
Is up next? Sam? Go ahead? Sam?
Speaker 6 (31:32):
Hey, Matt, what do you think the matchic number is
for this offense to actually be competitive? I'd tak twenty
four points minimum. They gotta score. I don't feel too
confident given last week's performance and bush handing overall. But
what are your thoughts?
Speaker 3 (31:47):
Yeah, that's a great question. I mean, well, let's just
take the old miss game. I think it's gonna vary
game to game. There's some games we could score last
and win. We scored twenty four against Leedo. How many
points do we have to score to beat on Miss?
Just raw points? Forget about like what we hold that.
How many points do we have to score?
Speaker 4 (32:06):
Twenty eight was the number jumped in my head.
Speaker 5 (32:08):
I was gonna say twenty seven. That was twenty seven,
twenty seven and a half.
Speaker 3 (32:11):
I was gonna take the line because and it I'm
not sure twenty seven wins.
Speaker 5 (32:16):
That's with good defense.
Speaker 3 (32:17):
But I don't think there's any way we hold Old
Miss to less than twenty one. Yeah, probably, so I
think we're gonna have to be mid twenties Ryan to
even have a chance.
Speaker 4 (32:30):
And I think we're gonna say this maybe every single
SEC game. I think the defense is gonna have to
hold teams into the three touchdowns are less to try
to win the football game.
Speaker 3 (32:39):
There might be some teams though, like I could see Drew.
I mean I could see, like against Georgia we've held
them under twenty seven quite a bit just because the
way they play.
Speaker 2 (32:49):
But I think against.
Speaker 3 (32:51):
The Miss, you tell me we get twenty seven and well,
at least we didn't get blown out.
Speaker 2 (32:55):
I think it's at least a fighting chack.
Speaker 5 (32:57):
Yeah, they just play so fast. You know we'll see
this season, but last year and the year before they're
the fastest offense in football. You assume that's gonna be
the case again this year.
Speaker 3 (33:05):
Labor Day is behind. This summer's winding down, and you
might be noticing a few things. A pimple that go away,
a weird a won't go away, a weird itchy spot. Well,
sometimes it's more than dry skin could be skin cancer.
You need to get it checked out quickly. If you
live in Kentucky, risk is even higher. That's why you
go to the Kentucky Skin Cancer Center. Offices in Owensboro
Bowling Green right here, Glasgow, Franklin and now in Mewenberg County.
(33:28):
Hands down the most trusted skin cancer facility in the region.
Your skin deserves the best. It's the Kentucky Skin Cancer Center.
You're not just a patient, your family. Visit Kentucky skin
Cancercenter dot com. We'll take a break and be right
back here at the Minton Bowling Green.
Speaker 2 (33:42):
It's KSR water back. It is Kentucky Sports Radio.
Speaker 3 (33:49):
Rick on the ox cord getting ready for the Old
Miss game. To get everybody fired up with the random
guitar riffs A five nine two eighth twenty two eighty seven.
Text machine is seven seven two seven seven four five
two five four. They just started yesterday, Ryan, my group
chat for my South African safari. Uh, ladies, Yes, a
(34:12):
new person joined it. It's now me and ten women
over the course of the safari.
Speaker 5 (34:18):
You should listen to reality show Are they?
Speaker 4 (34:21):
Are they?
Speaker 2 (34:22):
You?
Speaker 3 (34:22):
I don't know they every week we're now in a
group chat where everyone's introducing themselves.
Speaker 2 (34:28):
I tell you, there's two women with the same name.
Speaker 3 (34:32):
Both British women are both named g E M M A,
which I thought, would you, I guess that's jim Jimma.
I thought it was Gimma. I'm glad somebody told me
that before I got there. I think that's rude. We
only have two British women on the group and they
both decided to have the same name. I think that
they should have gotten together and fixed that before they went,
(34:53):
because I will already not remember any of these people's names,
but now two of them with the same name. Maybe
everybody with a British accident know to at least just
called Gimma, but or Jim.
Speaker 2 (35:05):
No.
Speaker 3 (35:06):
But I just I've never seen the name g E
M M A. Have you ever seen that before? I mean,
it's not common, but it exists twice. There's you gotta
go with last.
Speaker 5 (35:17):
The first initial last name with them Jim and Jimmy B.
Speaker 2 (35:20):
Yeah. Well, uh so they're starting to introduce each other.
Speaker 3 (35:23):
I did, I said my thing, and now I'll be
looking at giraffes with them.
Speaker 4 (35:28):
It's nice to know these women they are gonna be protecting
you on this so far.
Speaker 2 (35:31):
They're not gonna be protecting me.
Speaker 4 (35:33):
It's gonna make you stay behind one of them.
Speaker 2 (35:35):
Uh, you know, one of.
Speaker 3 (35:36):
Them is probably gonna have to help me set up
the camera for the FA for the NFL Show live
from Kruger National Park. We'll see how that works out.
But uh but yeah, so looking forward to meeting them.
You know, they they they write their description. I know,
I don't know what to write because they're all doing
these big professional jobs. I'm like, well, I host radio
show and it's fun And that was that's my intro.
Speaker 5 (35:58):
Are you all like going over your packing lists?
Speaker 2 (36:00):
Like?
Speaker 5 (36:00):
Are they are they talking about what they didn't ask?
Speaker 2 (36:02):
Well, the problem is they asked what should we wear?
Speaker 3 (36:05):
But everything they're saying doesn't apply to me right, like,
I mean, there's nobody for me to ask what I
should wear.
Speaker 2 (36:11):
You know, there's nobody.
Speaker 4 (36:13):
They're not wearing hoodies and short well, I mean the
ten women.
Speaker 3 (36:16):
I think they just have a different idea of what
they need to wear, so they are asking about clothes.
It's supposed to be fifty to seventy degrees, which is
the worst weather because you have to pack both warm
and cold clothes and that takes up more space. And
I'm gonna be gone for three weeks, so I don't
want to I don't know what to wear.
Speaker 5 (36:34):
Do you have a full length mirror at home? I
think you should send them outfit choices to just kind
of break the ice in things out.
Speaker 2 (36:40):
That's a good way to get to know each other.
Speaker 5 (36:41):
Yeah, get the conversation.
Speaker 3 (36:43):
Yeah, hey, ladies, what do you this look right here?
Speaker 5 (36:47):
I'm sure they wouldn't this hoodie?
Speaker 2 (36:49):
Sure, I'm sure they wouldn't find that odd it.
Speaker 4 (36:51):
She would be nice if Mario could go with you
for content purposes, that would be the.
Speaker 2 (36:55):
Greatest, would be good. Yes, Yeah, I did they sit
the full out interary. There's a lot of climbing, walking, love.
Speaker 3 (37:04):
It's a lot more active than I think I thought
when I signed up for it, but uh, but I'm
looking forward to it. It was up next, Trevor is next, Trevor,
go ahead, Trevor.
Speaker 8 (37:14):
Hey, Matt. First off, I just wanted to compliment you
on your new NFL show. I listened to it yesterday.
I live down here in London and it got my
mind off of all the fiascos down here for a
little bit, so it was it was great.
Speaker 3 (37:27):
Well, first of all, thank you for saying that. We'll
talk a little bit more about that in the second hour.
But you the the the impeachment hearing is tomorrow. Are
you going. I've had multiple people write me and say
they're going. If they can get in, they should put
it in the gymnasium, Like, uh, are you going to
the to the impeachment hearing?
Speaker 8 (37:44):
I'm not. I want to stay as far away as
I can because these people are bringing a bad name
to the home of the world famous chicken festival. That's true,
It's it's kind of a mess. My question though, towards
at the beginning of the season going through can the
talk was all about Cutter Bowley? Yeah, in his upside?
Was that more of a compliment to Cutter bully or
(38:08):
was it kind of cutting you know the Zachary Nicholas Calzotta.
Speaker 2 (38:13):
It's a great question. I don't know.
Speaker 3 (38:15):
I mean, I I appreciate the call, but what do
you think do you think with that I would say
I wouldn't say stoops and the coaches talked more about
Cutter Bowley, I don't think than than Kyle's he. I
don't think that's true, but I think they talked more
about Cutter Bowley than you normally talk about a backup quarterback.
Do you think that was kind of setting the table
(38:35):
for playing him at some point?
Speaker 5 (38:38):
Could be said at the table for playing him. But
I also think it's you. You're playing as Cutter as
your guy next year, and you don't want him looking around.
You want him locked in. And even though I think
he did have a great camp, I think they went
out of their way to let Cutter know that they're
proud of him, thought he did well. It's a close race.
You're stillar guy. If you can sit out just a
little bit longer while Calzatti gets.
Speaker 2 (38:57):
Issue, your Cutter's biggest advocate.
Speaker 3 (39:00):
Maybe on the play, if there's a kid from Lexington
going back to Jagger, you know, Landing, Young d Kale,
dang Key, and now Cutter. You're gonna be the advocate
you are. Mister Lexington, what do you think was the
reason for all the Cutter talk.
Speaker 4 (39:16):
Well, I'm gonna take Coach Dubsidy's word where he said
it was more praising what Cutter had done, not a
negative against Calzada. When Calzada did everything right, it just
Cutter kind of impressed him more and kind of surprised
him with how much he had advanced. So if, like
I said, man if if if, if we have one
game to go from, but if that's Calzada, why not
(39:38):
go with the youth from Bill for your future? If
the guy has actually kind of impressed you enough in
the spring you were bragging about him.
Speaker 3 (39:44):
If Calzada is not better than what we saw at Toledo,
then yes we should make the change.
Speaker 2 (39:49):
I'm gonna give him a chance to be better than that.
I think that.
Speaker 3 (39:52):
I think he does say it's one game. I think
he I think he deserves that. But I do think like,
if that's the max, then yeah, I think you make it.
I don't know why you wouldn't, honestly, and to be honest,
I'll let's also say this, if Cutter came in and
he couldn't be better than that, then you know, you
might need to go get somebody next chance, you know
what I mean. If Cutter comes in and he's not
(40:14):
better than him, then then maybe we gotta go in.
Speaker 2 (40:16):
A completely different direction next year.
Speaker 3 (40:18):
So there's a lot of reasons that if Zach Calzada
is not better than what we've seen, you would make
a change.
Speaker 5 (40:23):
What if it's the case, then maybe it's not Calsada.
What if the line just sucks and it's like a
Vandergriff year and you don't want to ruin your future
getting him killed. I mean, we just had a guy
quit football last year because the offense was so bad.
Speaker 2 (40:35):
I don't know how much the line is better than
it was.
Speaker 5 (40:38):
It is, but let's say we get to Week six
and they get killed by all Miss South Carolina and
the line can't block. Do you want to put your
future in the well?
Speaker 3 (40:45):
There's an argument, though, if the line is not gonna
be better than this line, which we spend a lot
of money on, then we may just have to get
a different kind of quarterback, one that can move, you know,
I mean, like we may not have a choice if
we can't get a better line than we've had. Of
all people who helped me get educated on British pronunciation,
Richie Farmer wrote me and said.
Speaker 2 (41:09):
Think of it like him.
Speaker 3 (41:10):
They know he said, think of it like a diamond. Jim, Jim,
see where you go. Nobody knows Britain better than Richie.
Speaker 2 (41:19):
Who's next? Justin?
Speaker 4 (41:21):
Is next?
Speaker 2 (41:22):
Justin thirty seconds?
Speaker 9 (41:25):
Matt Jones. I called it last year. I'm gonna call
a game. We're gonna beat them Rabels again, and all
we gotta do is score seven points and let our
defense do the rest. Let's be honest, this Ole Miss
team steams. And then what percentage of the crowd you
say are gonna be Ole Miss fans?
Speaker 2 (41:43):
Well, first of all, you did call that last year.
Speaker 3 (41:45):
I remember that you did call in and say that
before the game, So I will give you credit for that.
What percentage of the fans at the game are Old
Miss fan Saturday? That's a good question.
Speaker 4 (41:54):
I think we still have a good crowd. I'm gonna
go like maybe just fifteen percent.
Speaker 3 (41:58):
I'm gonna say like twenty. I'd been in some talks
with the Old Miss collective. They were thinking about doing
something at the bar, and then I was like, not pregames,
So they're not doing it, and they were expecting a
pretty good crowd. So I'm gonna say twenty. What do
you think, Drew, I'll say fifteen.
Speaker 5 (42:12):
Yeah, I know this.
Speaker 3 (42:14):
This won't be an invasion like Texas is gonna be correct,
but it'll.
Speaker 2 (42:18):
Still be uh, it'll still be a pretty good showing.
Speaker 3 (42:21):
We will take a break and be right back here
in Bowling Green at the minute.
Speaker 2 (42:25):
Tier number two is Kentucky Sports Radio
