Welcome to our two Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage.
Now Here's Matt Jones.
Speaker 4 (01:04):
Quarter back number two tell you Sports Radio EF. I'm
nine two eight oh twenty two eighty seven here at
Shady Rays in Louisville. Great crowd. It's been awesome to
see everybody out here. They now have prescription sunglasses. Old
man Lemon here, got some prescription sunglasses from Shady Rays.
Speaker 2 (01:19):
You know, I noticed all the ladies kind of checking
me out. Now I know why, because I got these prescriptions.
Speaker 4 (01:23):
You know what those look like? I just it just
hit me. Who wears sunglasses like that?
Speaker 5 (01:27):
That's Joe Biden.
Speaker 6 (01:29):
That's exactly right. He is wearing Joe Biden sunglasses.
Speaker 2 (01:33):
Hey, hey, my sitter, mostmall, you already blew that right?
Speaker 6 (01:37):
Those are Joe Biden sunglasses.
Speaker 5 (01:43):
Those thats exactly right.
Speaker 4 (01:47):
If I'm nine to eight oh twenty two eighty seven.
One person right wrote last night, Matt, did you go
to any sporting events in South Africa? So while I
was there, their little rugby team, the spring Box, played
a big game, so I went to a bar and
watched it.
Speaker 6 (02:01):
That was awesome.
Speaker 4 (02:02):
But I did go to a South African soccer game
one of their pro leagues, the Orlando Pirates, which is
one of their big teams.
Speaker 5 (02:13):
It was.
Speaker 4 (02:14):
And I'm not just saying this, Drew. This is not
an exaggeration, This is not Matt hyperbole. It was the
wildest scene I've ever been in in my entire life,
bar none, and I don't think they'll ever be one
topic an absolute yeah, what made I don't what made
(02:34):
it crazy? In the atmosphere, it was awesome. And again,
like sports fans, like college basketball fans, we can have
good student sections, but we did. We got nothing for
overseas soccer, the singing, the dancing, that it's just a
whole nother thing. But it was wild getting into the
stadium in the middle of Soweto at night.
Speaker 6 (02:57):
Let's just say scanning tickets, Drew is and.
Speaker 5 (03:01):
Uh So, there's nothing like a clear bag policy.
Speaker 6 (03:03):
There is no there's no clear bag policy.
Speaker 4 (03:07):
There's not even a get through the gates policy. There
is a if you can get in, you are in,
and I go. And it was supposed to be me,
one of the local gods and my tour guide. It
was gonna be a bros night out right, because I've
been around eight women for eleven straight days and it
(03:29):
was gonna be me and these two locals and they
it was just gonna be the three of us, and
then some of the women in the group were like,
we want to go, and you can't sit there and
say no, you all can't go. So they went and
they were they were lovely, but it led to chaos
because soccer and South Africa, unbeknownst to me, pretty much
(03:50):
only men go.
Speaker 6 (03:51):
Right.
Speaker 4 (03:53):
Had it just been me, I would have been the
only literally in thirty thousand people, I would have'n't the
only white person there.
Speaker 6 (04:02):
We now had five.
Speaker 4 (04:03):
But they were all with our group, right, and it
was awesome, but it was chaos. And you walk through
the front entrance. There's only one entrance. There's not a southwest, southeast, northwest, northeast.
It is one entrance, and they have tickets, but tickets,
like KSR facts are optional. Because tickets are optional, people
(04:27):
are just jumping through the gates.
Speaker 6 (04:29):
People are trying to push in.
Speaker 4 (04:31):
I looked down at one point and there was like
a seven year old boy wrapped around my leg trying
to have me like carry him in on my leg.
You think I'm kidding. I am not kidding. He was
on my leg, and you know what, I kind of
appreciated the tenacity I was gonna let him just just
(04:54):
because there were so many people. It was a mob
of people that the ticket takes were just trying to
keep people from jumping over the thing. They weren't looking down,
and I was gonna just drag this kid in with
me on my leg, and then he got kind of
detached and he ended up not have he snuck in
somewhere else, but trying to take those women through the
(05:15):
crowd and trying to get through there, and you know,
I'm like the biggest person in the country. For whatever reason,
there's not a lot of tall people in South Africa.
I think other parts of Africa have more tall people.
Not a lot of tall people there, so I can
see over everything, and I'm like, this is chaos, but
(05:36):
it was awesome, But I'm not going to act like
for about ten minutes, your boy Matt was not a
little nervous.
Speaker 6 (05:43):
I would have been fine for myself, but then.
Speaker 4 (05:46):
Having those women and kind of feeling like Ryan I
needed to protect them, even though I probably didn't, but
I kind of felt like I needed to.
Speaker 6 (05:53):
We had local guides with us.
Speaker 4 (05:55):
I could see in their face that they were like,
we need to get out of these scenes.
Speaker 2 (05:59):
And it was.
Speaker 4 (06:00):
It's just it was just a lot and it was awesome,
but it was one of those Next time I hear
people go, man, it's crazy down at LSU in a
football game, I'm gonna say, well, it's crazy, but I've
seen different kind of crazy.
Speaker 2 (06:13):
Once you got through the entrance, it was fine.
Speaker 4 (06:14):
Once you got in, it's fine. They don't have the
it's a forty thousand seat stadium. No, like seats, you
don't have a signed seat.
Speaker 6 (06:24):
Get in where you fit in. You know, you take
the seat.
Speaker 4 (06:28):
Whoever gets there, that's who sits there, which I kind
of I kind of appreciate, but it leads to a
mad dash for tickets for seats as well.
Speaker 5 (06:37):
I was about to ask, is it like Cedric the entertainer,
like seats four and five? That's me Get up. You
don't have to move people around.
Speaker 6 (06:44):
Will you find your spot? That's your spot, and that's
where you go.
Speaker 3 (06:47):
Sit thirty to forty thousand men and five women. I
could imagine you got a lot of attention walking around
with a group of five women with attention, yes.
Speaker 5 (06:55):
A lot of whistling, yeah.
Speaker 6 (06:57):
A lot of a lot of attention.
Speaker 4 (06:59):
And some of the people in our group had decided
they would drink a little bit before.
Speaker 6 (07:04):
You.
Speaker 4 (07:05):
The expression hurting cats when you're trying to get to
keep a group of people together and everybody's like, look
a flag and then they go run it out, come
back here, and.
Speaker 5 (07:15):
Then you've got to go get your hoodies from the
from the gift shop.
Speaker 4 (07:18):
I need you to come back over here. We're trying
to stay together. Like, uh, quite quite a seat? Did
the home team win?
Speaker 5 (07:25):
Was there?
Speaker 6 (07:25):
They won?
Speaker 5 (07:26):
And it was awesome.
Speaker 4 (07:27):
I mean the singing and the dancing, like they they
have songs for every single thing that happens, and like
I was singing them. I didn't even know like it
was the language, but it didn't matter. Once it got going,
it was. It was awesome. And by the way, no
real parking. You just streets people just like drop people off.
Speaker 5 (07:49):
You know.
Speaker 4 (07:50):
When we left, I said where how we getting home?
And he was like, well, we'll get in a van
and then we did.
Speaker 3 (07:55):
So, So what you're saying is the atmosphere was nothing
like Kroger Field at all.
Speaker 7 (07:59):
I think can we take some of those traditions.
Speaker 4 (08:01):
We'll say, the tradition of you sit down where like
first come, first serve. Yeah, that may not help our donors,
but it creates a better atmosphere because the people who
want to be in it, they're down there next to
the field and they're being loud.
Speaker 5 (08:14):
While you were out. They sent out a survey asking
for help with Kroger Field fans. What would you like
to see added? I think you should suggest no tickets,
no no admission, just let everybody out of find a seat.
Speaker 6 (08:26):
I guarantee you'd get a better atmosphere.
Speaker 5 (08:28):
Right.
Speaker 4 (08:28):
UK basketball they announced yesterday six games this year Ryan
on the computer. Six games on the computer, Big Blue Madness.
What the UK Georgetown exhibition.
Speaker 6 (08:40):
Game is on the computer, which surprised me.
Speaker 4 (08:42):
And then all parts of the BBN or whatever we're
calling the BBN Classic and then the game against Bellerman.
Six computer games. In years past we've had one or
two Ryan, Now we have six.
Speaker 2 (08:53):
Yeah, we met the new play by play guy. He
came to the KS bar. If you can't remember his name,
Noah maybe or something like that.
Speaker 5 (08:58):
I mean new play by play guy.
Speaker 2 (09:00):
They got to play about their own play by play,
got to do these games on the computer, you know,
the streaming games. You met him, Yeah, he was. He
came into the restaurant I thought you were there that day.
Speaker 6 (09:07):
You're talking about Tom the guy, not the radio guy.
Speaker 2 (09:11):
Know they're for their TV streaming.
Speaker 4 (09:13):
Oh okay, I was like, did Tom Leach get fined
a lot of big news while you're okay, Oh, so
you're saying the guy to do the computer game?
Speaker 6 (09:22):
Yes, yeah, and it's just a random guy.
Speaker 2 (09:25):
He's a permanent employee now for a uk. I think
you remember last they had They brought this other guy
and he's gonna do like softball in some other games.
That's I have to look it up.
Speaker 6 (09:33):
Okay, Well, that sounds like he made a great impression
on it.
Speaker 4 (09:37):
But besides the new play by play guy that you
met but don't remember, what do you think Drew about
the fact that six games are on the computer?
Speaker 5 (09:45):
Oh, I've already heard about it from a lot of fans.
I you know, I've got used to it, and I
expected to be a lot. Six still seems very high
when the fan base is still figure it out and
there are people who literally don't have that option. So
I hate that it's so many. But as we've seen,
they've been given just a little more each year. For
several years, we knew it was heading this direction. Good
for cas Bar.
Speaker 4 (10:04):
We'll be filled those games because people won't if they
don't have the access to get it. That'll be the
only way they can see it. They do get the
Blue White game this year, you'll get to watch last year.
If you remember it was not on streaming, you had
to like, well, I don't know, I don't remember how
you could watch.
Speaker 6 (10:18):
There were people sitting there, but they didn't show the game.
Speaker 5 (10:20):
It's really expensive to get it. It was expensive that
you can.
Speaker 6 (10:23):
See the game.
Speaker 4 (10:23):
But this is gonna continue happening, I mean chanting like
I mean they're NBA games this year they are only
on the computer.
Speaker 6 (10:30):
Like this is gonna continue to have it is like.
Speaker 3 (10:32):
Drew said that, I feel like they're just inching each
year more and more towards eight. You know, probably next year.
I wouldn't be surprised if they had that many. And
then you know, you look at the NFL. If you
want to watch the NFL games, you gotta have Amazon Prime,
you gotta have Netflix, you gotta have all these different
streaming services just to be able to watch the game.
And I feel like college basketball is probably going in
that direction.
Speaker 4 (10:50):
The only thing that makes me like my question though,
is only. What is the SEC network showing on a
Tuesday night in November? That's better than having a UK basketball.
Speaker 7 (10:59):
Still never used that alternate channel.
Speaker 4 (11:01):
They've never used, but I mean used to be all
those games would be on the SEC network when we
played Tennessee Tech. What are they showing Drew on a
Tuesday night at seven o'clock in November? That's better than
UK's basketball game. I don't understand, Like, what's what's gonna
be on?
Speaker 2 (11:17):
I really don't know.
Speaker 5 (11:18):
I mean, I know some of our computer games are
the BBN United tip Off Classic presented by Kentucky Tourism,
and they're all very excited about that one. Are they
gonna have like volleyball on or a softball replay or
showing other school it's BBN? What's it? The BBN United
tip Off Classic presented by Kentucky Tourism, And we're gonna
run the table on that damn thing. I cannot wait.
(11:39):
But it is part of the streaming package. It sounds
like an exciting event they got last year. I'm the
only one that tried to make something of the BBN Invitational.
I asked the players when I didn't cut down the nets,
they looked at me like I had five heads. But
this year we're gonna win the BBN United Tipoff Classic
presented by Kentucky Tourism, And I hate that it's not
on TV.
Speaker 7 (11:58):
Well, at least are getting their money's worth.
Speaker 4 (12:00):
It to surprise Kentucky Georgetown, like the real Georgetown. Yeah,
the exhibition game. I was surprised as a computer gack.
Speaker 2 (12:07):
Well, they're trying to, you know, get people to buy
those subscriptions, right, so they're going to strat it out
and how to get as much money out of our
pockets as they possibly can.
Speaker 6 (12:13):
How many of you, all, just out of curiosity, how
many of you have access to that service?
Speaker 5 (12:18):
Raise your hand.
Speaker 4 (12:20):
I mean that's a lot smaller than you think. I mean,
I honestly thought that was gonna be like seventy or
eighty percent.
Speaker 5 (12:26):
It was like thirty or forty. Well, just I mean
that's that.
Speaker 4 (12:29):
Actually that shows you, though, Ryan, I mean, you are
when you decide to do that, you are taking the
game away from a significant amount of your fan.
Speaker 2 (12:38):
Like just gambling that they're gonna maybe people tune in
watching play perdue, get excited about the team and then
subscribe to get that Georgetown game.
Speaker 5 (12:46):
I mean, yeah, I guess that's what you're hoping for.
But I mean we've had a lot of if Shannon,
everybody's gonna just change their mind all the time.
Speaker 6 (12:52):
Yeah, I mean we've had a lot of games on
there over the years. If if, if they haven't subscribed yet,
then they're probably not.
Speaker 3 (12:57):
In some ways, you know, probably not going to But
like said, the good thing about it his come to
ks Bar web.
Speaker 7 (13:02):
All the games are there. It's good for our business.
Speaker 5 (13:05):
Hat Richie and Buck on earlier this week, and Buck
was talking about this, like how upset it makes his dad,
like this is the state school. But you've got to
have eleven apps and pay all this money just to
support you know, your local team you've watched in spur.
Speaker 4 (13:18):
That's that's a really good point. Basketball team's been working out.
I can tell you I got one. Normally I text
to get information and the text machine so I'm a
little drout information.
Speaker 5 (13:29):
Except I did email.
Speaker 4 (13:32):
Wow, Yes, I had to I had to Grandpaul an
email for some information and got it last night. A
source telling me Drew basketball team in practice could not
be more excited in terms of how they look, as
they said, as one person said to me, when the
season starts, we're probably about on the level of the
(13:55):
season starts we had last year, but that this team's
upside was quote infinite higher than the teams last year.
They knew last year they had a ceiling that was
gonna be like what they were. This one, they think
the ceiling is significantly higher.
Speaker 5 (14:08):
Yeah. I keep hearing about depth, like you know, who
knows if they'll be a National championship contender, But the
floor is very, very high. I mean, they're gonna be
good regardless of They're gonna be givet so many pieces.
And then another thing that keeps coming out is last year,
at this time, it was they look good, Pope's a
good coach, but do they have an NBA talent? This
year seems to be several, you know, potential guys they
(14:30):
have to go out and do it. But a lot
of guys that are on NBA draft boards on this
roster all year.
Speaker 4 (14:35):
Last year, I would say I love this team, and
I did love them, and they're great and they're awesome,
but there's no NBA player And I took a lot
of heat for that over the year. There really wasn't.
I mean, Bray and Amari might make their teams, but
they're not. There are NBA players on this year's team.
They may not make it next year, but there are
multiple guys who can play in the NBA, and I
think you got to have at least a couple of
(14:55):
those if you're gonna win. You can get your picture
with the Heisman Trophy at Don Franklin Lexington, Nissan on
Richmond Road, Lexington, October seventeenth.
Speaker 5 (15:04):
That's pretty good, isn't it.
Speaker 2 (15:05):
That's pretty good.
Speaker 4 (15:06):
Yeah, go so head on over to Don Franklin Otto.
They got the best selection vehicles, best prices. It's Don
Franklin Auto dot com. And you can see the Heisman
Trophy in person at Don Franklin Auto dot Com. It
is Don Franklin Driven by Family. We'll take a break
very back. Here's Kentucky Sports Radio.
Speaker 6 (15:23):
Welcome back.
Speaker 5 (15:23):
It is Kentucky Sports Radio. Wow.
Speaker 6 (15:27):
Liam's bringing the music here, Shannon Inny.
Speaker 7 (15:29):
What do we got here? Who is this?
Speaker 5 (15:30):
What is this?
Speaker 7 (15:31):
Ricky Skaggs the old home place? There you goms?
Speaker 4 (15:35):
Liam getting some Ricky Skaggs in Here is Kentucky Sports
Radio eight five nine two eight twenty two eighty sent
We haven't opened up the phones.
Speaker 6 (15:41):
I don't know if we'll get to it or not.
Speaker 5 (15:43):
We'll see.
Speaker 4 (15:43):
We got a lot of stuff going on. We do
have some breaking news, Liam, Do you have the button there?
Speaker 5 (15:49):
You go? Alright, Drew just saw this.
Speaker 4 (15:53):
Billy Gillespie has been put on administrative leave by Tarlington
State for an unnamed violence. He will not be coaching,
and in the interim during his time is a name
we're familiar with. Glenn cyprian former assistant coach with Billy
Gillaspie here at Kentucky will be the coach while Billy
(16:13):
is on administratively.
Speaker 6 (16:14):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (16:15):
It says they're investigating a complaint.
Speaker 4 (16:17):
So unfortunately, I probably have a guess might not be
great for Billy there.
Speaker 5 (16:25):
Stepping in for him.
Speaker 6 (16:26):
Sorry to hear that.
Speaker 4 (16:26):
You know, Billy's been obviously a troubled guy for a while,
and I I wish him nothing but prayers and success.
But I'm sorry to hear that. That's tough news for
a guy who's uh, you know, been been up and
down a lot and then a.
Speaker 5 (16:41):
Little switching directions would stay with the Billy staff. Wasn't
Alvin Brooks on his staff.
Speaker 6 (16:46):
Because the he was when he first was getting started.
Speaker 5 (16:48):
Yeah, he was back at UK practice for for young
Alvin Brooks just just earlier this week.
Speaker 4 (16:54):
Can we just take a second, sir, I know you
and I talked about this to give a little shout
out to my Reds who waited till I got out
of the country.
Speaker 6 (17:03):
Oh, come on, you could do better than that. For
the real listen, they made the playoffs.
Speaker 5 (17:07):
If I put your brooms down in class, they did
make the playoffs.
Speaker 7 (17:11):
Thanks for coming.
Speaker 6 (17:12):
It was very quick. It was a quick time, but
you know what, they made it.
Speaker 4 (17:17):
The games would be in the middle of the night,
so I wouldn't really get to see him, but I
would wake up and be like, oh, they beat the
Cubs again. Oh they beat the Cubs again. Oh they
beat the Cubs again. Oh, we may have a chance
to make it. And then I watched the final game.
We lost, but then the Mets choked it away and
we here's what was amazing chance. We ended up getting
the tiebreaker over the Mets because of a game that
(17:38):
I attended. Really yeah, in July, they played the Mets
up in New York. Okay, I was there. I was
watching a guy named Frank the Tank. You all may
see he's on barstool, right, he's this.
Speaker 5 (17:53):
We met him.
Speaker 6 (17:54):
He was complaining.
Speaker 5 (17:55):
He's a Mets fan.
Speaker 4 (17:56):
He was complaining about their season, and he said, we
lost the season July eighteenth versus the Reds. And all
his co hosts were laughing at him, like July eighteenth.
But he's right, because I was at that game. The
game was tied. They brought in this dude who they
had just gotten for the minor leagues to pitch. He
walked the first three guys, then he gave up three
(18:16):
straight home runs to the Reds.
Speaker 6 (18:18):
Everyone was booing, They're like, why is he in?
Speaker 4 (18:21):
I stood up and gave him a round of applause
as he walked out of the game. And they ended
up and the Reds won that game, which gave them
the tiebreakers. She and so that when they tied, they
were able to make it, and I felt like I
had a little piece of it because then I didn't
get to see any of it during the two weeks ago.
Speaker 3 (18:36):
It was a great choke job by the New York
Mets getting the Reds in. Now that you didn't get
to see him, I mean, do you at least want
to go back and watch it on like YouTube?
Speaker 4 (18:44):
And I would watch in the playoffs. I would watch
the highlights every morning. I really like when was his name,
John Sadak, the play by play guy on that. I like,
he gets so excited, So I did enjoy it. I
hated that if there'd been a home playoff game and
I missed it, I'd been up upset. But I see
I didn't have to do that. But uh yeah, it
was still from Afar Ryan exciting to watch him make.
Speaker 2 (19:05):
I got two things I want to ask you about. One,
it came out after Hunter Green got rocked that he
was tipping off his pitches.
Speaker 4 (19:10):
He did that earlier this year, we did he did
that frustrates me because he tipped it off against the
Dodgers and got rocked the last time.
Speaker 6 (19:18):
So if he didn't fix that, that's on him. He
should have fixed that.
Speaker 2 (19:21):
The other thing is, you know the baseball fans are saying,
you know, you left the country and UK Baseball went
to the World Series. You left the country in the
red win. Well, you please lead the country for March
Madness this year. It would save us a road trip
to like San Francisco or something.
Speaker 4 (19:36):
That's rude true for them to say, but that is true.
Speaker 6 (19:39):
I guess my two baseball teams both did make a
run when I was gone. That's right.
Speaker 5 (19:44):
I know you don't want a moral victory, but it
I mean, the fact that they made the playoffs had
to have been pretty chunge. You don't. You don't get
it very often. You get the excitement for a few days.
Sure it was short lived, but hell, my team was
a World Series favorite and we didn't make the playoffs.
So I'm excited about the future.
Speaker 4 (19:58):
I mean, for Reds fans, we got a goo good staff,
good rotation that'll be together for at least the next
three or four years with Green, Lodolo, Abbott, Chase Burns.
Ellie tapered off as the year went on, but had
a decent year.
Speaker 5 (20:12):
Uh.
Speaker 6 (20:12):
I love Marte the young kid. I like key Brian.
Speaker 5 (20:16):
We need Matt McClain not to stink yep.
Speaker 4 (20:18):
But if you can go get one more good, really
good bad and get McClain not to be so bad anymore,
then I think they can make the playoffs and be good.
Speaker 2 (20:26):
Ryan next year, you mentioned my favorite player, TJ. Friedel Man.
He he's been good, been really good.
Speaker 4 (20:30):
They need like one, they need a power hitter. They
need one big power hitter they they've meant. I feel
like if they had that, they would go from I
think they had eighty three wins or eighty four wins.
I think you get up into the nineties if they
had one shinn in power hitter.
Speaker 5 (20:45):
They need one.
Speaker 3 (20:46):
Yeah, they're missing just a couple of pieces, but I
mean that is enough to get you to renew your
season tickets for next year.
Speaker 7 (20:51):
Right, you're excited.
Speaker 6 (20:52):
About next going to I think I will. I think
next year.
Speaker 4 (20:56):
Next year's the pitching staff gives them a chance in
every game, and so that that's exciting exciting for me
to see. Did you all did you watch any of
the games while I.
Speaker 2 (21:05):
Was all them?
Speaker 5 (21:06):
Every baseball playoff game that has been played this week.
I've been locked into baseball.
Speaker 4 (21:10):
Did you see last night the Yankees and the Red
Sox played. He was right after my plane at landed.
The Red Sox looked to be starting a thirteen year
old in that game last night.
Speaker 2 (21:20):
Did you see that kid?
Speaker 4 (21:21):
He had just been in the majors for like two months,
and he looked like a child. I mean, he looked
like a child.
Speaker 6 (21:27):
In Shannon plays.
Speaker 4 (21:29):
He's been in the major two months he's starting the
clinching game Yankees Red Sox in the playoffs a Yankee stadium.
Speaker 7 (21:36):
I mean, I can't even imagine.
Speaker 3 (21:38):
Unfortunately, they gave him zero run support, so it's kind
of hard to win when you don't have any support.
Speaker 5 (21:42):
And then the other guy like.
Speaker 4 (21:44):
Broke the all time Yankees record, he too was a rookie,
broke the all time Yankees.
Speaker 2 (21:48):
Record for strikeouts.
Speaker 5 (21:49):
That's crazy to me.
Speaker 3 (21:51):
Playoffs have been great, they really have. I mean even
the Tigers and Indians. That wasn't talking about a meltdown.
The Detroit Lions having a fifteen and a half game
lead and then blowing it to the Guardians but ended
up getting serious.
Speaker 5 (22:03):
Also, why you were gone? We could have used your
best page score in the Ryder Cup. We needed you
out there.
Speaker 4 (22:08):
Yeah, so yeah, talk about it for the Ryder Cup
for a second. You're you're a big golf guy. Looked like,
not only did our team choke, but our fans. Yeah,
what a bad performance by our fans. You can't be
throwing stuff at people's wives.
Speaker 5 (22:22):
On Friday, I was playing up to Shannon. I was like,
you would love the Ryder Cup because you actually get
to cheer in heckle a little bit.
Speaker 7 (22:28):
You didn't mention that I get to throw beer. Yeah.
Speaker 5 (22:30):
Well, then on Monday I was like, we went too far, Shannon.
That's not how it is actually supposed to be. You know,
there's rumors out there about Rory that might not even
be true, but they're yelling that at him and his
wife throwing the stuff just a lot of like f
U's would at least be creative and patriotic.
Speaker 4 (22:45):
I saw that the woman who was the MC led
a chant of blank you Rory over the microphone.
Speaker 5 (22:54):
Yeah, she got in trouble.
Speaker 2 (22:55):
Yeah, so I think she'd get fired.
Speaker 6 (22:58):
How in the world did they that happen?
Speaker 7 (23:00):
I don't know.
Speaker 5 (23:01):
I mean, I'm all for USA, USA yelling a few things. Sure,
yell you choke Europeans, you know, stuff like that, But
we were way out of bounds.
Speaker 4 (23:09):
Anybody who travels knows. Well, all right, we'll talk about
it like we got take a break, we'll be right back.
This is Kentucky Sports Radio. TJ Smith, personal injury attorney
called TJ.
Speaker 5 (23:21):
He'll make them.
Speaker 7 (23:21):
Pay no more.
Speaker 3 (23:23):
Kentucky Sports by Stockton Mortgage. Here's Matt Joe.
Speaker 5 (23:27):
Welcome back.
Speaker 4 (23:28):
It is Kentucky Sports radio, Liam your your your music
choices entertain me?
Speaker 5 (23:35):
Is this Vern Gosden? Who is this Don Williams? Don Williams?
Speaker 4 (23:41):
Do not expect to hear Don Williams today Here at
Shady Rays by one.
Speaker 5 (23:46):
Uh.
Speaker 4 (23:46):
If you buy two sunglasses here in the next thirty
minutes and right after the show, fifty percent off the
entire purchase.
Speaker 6 (23:52):
Here at Shady Rays in Louisville.
Speaker 4 (23:54):
They got Shady Rays dot com and one in Lexington
from the last night Instagram questions person writes, Matt, what
about the food in South Africa?
Speaker 6 (24:03):
Pretty normal stuff?
Speaker 4 (24:05):
I have a new thing I like though, and if
any Lexington or Louisville restaurant will start serving it, you
will have a regular customer in me.
Speaker 6 (24:11):
I guess we have a restaurant, so in theory we
could do that as well.
Speaker 5 (24:14):
Uh.
Speaker 6 (24:15):
Perry Perry sauce you ever had that?
Speaker 5 (24:18):
You ever had that? Pe r I p e r I.
Speaker 6 (24:22):
It's like this flavor of sauce you can put on
chicken and stuff.
Speaker 5 (24:26):
It is the best.
Speaker 6 (24:27):
I'm addicted to it.
Speaker 4 (24:28):
Apparently there's this chain in America called Nando's that serves that.
We don't have that in Kentucky. So I didn't know
that it existed. But I'm not going to put out
a franchise. One restaurant is plenty, but if anybody ever does,
I will be you Drew. You would like it great,
like it's our kind of taste, Like it's really good.
Speaker 5 (24:46):
We'll get Monique assignment to try to copy category.
Speaker 4 (24:49):
I would love to have some if we put Perry
Perry on wings like, that's not it's not a bad
idea at.
Speaker 5 (24:54):
All, like the Bobby Perry Perry Bobby Perry Perry sauce.
Speaker 6 (24:57):
That's right.
Speaker 2 (24:59):
One of the things you'll we talk about when you
come on your trips is the food. What is it
like in South Africa?
Speaker 4 (25:04):
It's all right, it's not it's not like when you
think of African cuisine. That's not really how it is
in South Africa. South Africa's got a strong like European influence,
so the food is not it's not what I would
love to have in other parts of Africa. But it's
still good, but it's not quite as spicy and all
the things that I was like hoping it would be,
that's not really what they do. A lot of Indian
(25:26):
food there, which I do like, but yeah, that was
that was kind of that.
Speaker 5 (25:30):
On cover zero this week where we were filling it
without you, we had a big conversation about traveling without
a phone. We thought about being there, but like the
airport boarding passage, what do you just stare at the
seat and I just.
Speaker 4 (25:42):
Want I just want you to think about your phone
for a second, because I did not realize how much
of our life. Forget about just scrolling like doom scrolling.
Just think about how much of your life is now online.
So let me just use for me without having my phone.
I'm locked out every social media app. In order for
me to log into it from my computer, I had
(26:04):
to log in. They now all send two step verifications
and send it to your phone. I couldn't get the
text messages, which means couldn't check my bank account, couldn't
check like, couldn't check social media Uber. Locked out of Uber.
So now you don't have an Uber. So when you
go somewhere, you don't know how to get back. You
get to the airport, you don't have a boarding pass right,
(26:27):
you don't get updates on where your flight is when
you go out in town. I'm old school. I'm having
to go up to people and say well, you call
me a cab please, Like I couldn't even call a cab.
Speaker 6 (26:42):
I had to ask someone else to call me a cab.
Speaker 4 (26:45):
Thankfully, I had turned on the setting on my iPad
before I left that allowed me to get eye messages
to my iPad. Otherwise, let's just say I didn't have
my iPad. Yeah, I don't know what I would have done.
I don't know anybody's phone number. Do you know people's
phone numbers?
Speaker 2 (27:03):
I don't know. I don't know any of.
Speaker 4 (27:06):
Your phone numbers. I don't know my mom's cell phone number.
The only phone number I know in my life is
my mom's home phone because it was the same phone
we had when I was a child. That would have
been the only phone number I could have called. And
even then I would have had to borrow a phone
from someone else and and make a phone call. And
(27:26):
of course, when I met people in South Africa, you
can't just go up to a stranger and go, hey,
can I make an.
Speaker 6 (27:31):
International call from your phone?
Speaker 5 (27:34):
Like you can't do that.
Speaker 6 (27:35):
So if I hadn't had that I message thing, I
don't really know what I was.
Speaker 7 (27:39):
When you went out in public, did you carry around
your iPad? Well?
Speaker 6 (27:42):
I mean, you can't walk around with your iPad when
you go place as you could.
Speaker 4 (27:46):
So I mean no, I just walked around, you know, naked, naked,
but naked makes you feel like electronically naked everywhere I went.
Speaker 5 (27:56):
So one other number, you know, you could have called
a five nine, two eighty seven. I'm just surprised. It's like, Gus,
I need your help. I've been trying to get in
touch with America all night.
Speaker 4 (28:06):
Great point called during the show. Shannon would answer, goes, Shannon, ye,
will you tell my mom?
Speaker 7 (28:11):
I'm okay, Yeah, I could have relayed that message for you.
Speaker 6 (28:14):
It couldn't get the same thing with email.
Speaker 4 (28:16):
Couldn't get into my email because on email it was
verification and it would send a text to my phone
and I couldn't.
Speaker 6 (28:22):
I couldn't get it, so like I couldn't log onto
anything at all.
Speaker 7 (28:26):
So much of our life is just tied into our phone,
and you take it for granted. You don't think about
it until you run into a situation that you were.
Speaker 4 (28:31):
About it, and then you're gone, what about U? What
about Paul fine Bomb says he may run for senate. Shannon,
I wanted your take on that because I know you're
a huge Paul Fine Bomb fan.
Speaker 3 (28:41):
Well, I know there's a requirement in politics you gotta
be at least eighty years old before they'll take you in,
So he fits that requirement. You know, I was thinking
maybe that ks Arcis slide into the SEC network and
take over his spot.
Speaker 6 (28:52):
Well, see, here's what I thought your reaction was gonna be.
Speaker 5 (28:55):
What's up?
Speaker 4 (28:55):
You probably don't care who the senator for Alabama is
gonna be. No, but now you might get a show
on the SEC. Now you actually might. You might be
replaced by somebody exciting, or.
Speaker 3 (29:07):
You could do the replacing, because god knows, this show
isn't exciting. It's like getting a dry salads.
Speaker 5 (29:16):
Either.
Speaker 7 (29:17):
Just let us.
Speaker 6 (29:20):
Bomb show dry salad, no dressing, no croutons.
Speaker 7 (29:25):
Bowl of lettuce.
Speaker 5 (29:27):
That's could we gets Pearl? Or is this setting up?
Oh my gosh, that would be.
Speaker 4 (29:35):
What's Here's what's funny about Paul fa And listen, he
would be hypocritical of me as somebody who likes sports
who's dabbled in politics to say he shouldn't do it.
Speaker 6 (29:45):
He should do what ever he wants. Same thing with
Bruce Pearl, do whatever you want.
Speaker 4 (29:49):
But what's hilarious to me is watch these people I
know just completely flip in order to get public approval.
Fine Bomb is a liberal and he has been forever,
and now he wants to represent it, and all of
a sudden he's a conservative. In twenty sixteen, I remember
(30:10):
having a conversations with Fine Bomb. I won't share him
because they were private, but about Trump. And now he said,
if Trump calls me, I'll run, like what what what
are you doing?
Speaker 5 (30:21):
Like you?
Speaker 4 (30:21):
It's just it is hilarious to me to watch the
people who just like the public thing is so important
to them that they will just flip everything.
Speaker 6 (30:31):
I hope, I hope he runs. It'll be funny.
Speaker 4 (30:33):
Hopefully his callers will come to his uh will come
to his town halls and just start yelling now that
he's a perfect politician.
Speaker 5 (30:39):
Then if that's true, so you mentioned the calls, it's
good for his constituents. He will take their calls and
hear them out and let them talk. It's just will
let them say just whatever they want as long as
they want.
Speaker 6 (30:48):
That's true. He'll have a town hall and he'll just
hand in the microphone of the person.
Speaker 5 (30:51):
Just sit back, sit back, let them talk.
Speaker 7 (30:53):
For five minutes.
Speaker 2 (30:53):
All right, great call, next call Shannon.
Speaker 5 (30:55):
Here's Phyllis.
Speaker 4 (30:56):
But now you might get who knows Shannon. Maybe they'll
even ask us now to replace it.
Speaker 3 (31:02):
Well, you're still banned, so I don't know if you
get to be on there right Well, from the show
of the network, which one is, I've.
Speaker 6 (31:07):
Been on the network, so I have to be there.
Speaker 4 (31:10):
I listen Paul's bit in all seriousness, I based this
entire gig, this entire thing, this entire network, the entire
idea of what KSR the radio show was. I based
it on what Fine Bombs set up in Alabama before
he was on the SEC network. Fine Bomb set up
this model in Alabama where basically you had one station
(31:31):
and then you took a lot of affiliates and you
essentially just it was a fan base show. Now he's
very different than me, but like the whole thing. And
I went down there and I met with him and
we talked about how you did it, and he's been
a great help to.
Speaker 5 (31:44):
Me over the years.
Speaker 6 (31:45):
So I genuinely like Paul Finebaub.
Speaker 4 (31:48):
With that said, when the SEC network somebody at Missouri
got mad, he didn't really take up for me. He
would say that he was taking up for me, and
then he really didn't, and then I later found out
that it flipped and the SEC network was cool with us,
and then he just didn't want to have me on,
which is totally his right.
Speaker 6 (32:08):
It's his show.
Speaker 4 (32:10):
I wish him nothing but success, but uh, I do
think it would be kind of exciting Drew to have
a different show there, even if it wasn't us, just
something else, because the sort of him just staring into
the camera for hours, it might be nice to see
something else.
Speaker 5 (32:23):
Yeah, and the callers were fun, and it was new
to all of us who hadn't followed forever. But now
it is kind of the same people yelling at each
other over and over when I turn it on. The
only time to ever catch it is after an Alabama loss, which, luckily,
in the new era, we've gotten a little more than
we did in the past.
Speaker 6 (32:38):
Ryan, you were never a fan when I made you
listen on the road.
Speaker 2 (32:42):
Whether you liked that boring radio show or not. It
is a success story as far as sports radio goes.
But it is a boring, awful show or try to get.
Speaker 7 (32:48):
Through for four callers. The callers are what makes four hour.
Speaker 6 (32:52):
It is four hours. That's that's a long time. Tell
me about Stocktor Morgan.
Speaker 2 (32:55):
Doctor Mark. You know rache have dropped a little bit
so that the real estate market is really picked up
in the last couple months or so. So if you're
thinking about you've been on the fence and you've been
waiting for the time, now might be the right time
get that closing in before the winter hits. So talking
workers can help you all every step of the way.
There's Stockton mortgages all over Kentucky. There's a bunch of
them here as a matter of factor of corporate offices
are located here in Louisville, So give them a call.
I'm going to the website Stockton dot com. NMLS E
(33:17):
two five nine equalsing.
Speaker 6 (33:18):
We excited when the interest rates dropped.
Speaker 4 (33:20):
That thought of you, because you were like, now here
we go me and by Joe Biden sunglasses, I'll be
able to start selling houses.
Speaker 2 (33:26):
I actually had to put my wiltor hat on in
the past month or so because it's been a little
busy the last couple of weeks.
Speaker 5 (33:30):
So yeah, wow.
Speaker 2 (33:31):
So maybe if I knew a friend, maybe he's looking
for a house in Lexington, maybe been shopping for about
four years. Maybe now's the time.
Speaker 7 (33:38):
Has been looking for a house for a long time.
Speaker 4 (33:40):
When I find it, though, then we'll be ready to go.
We'll take a break. Come back final segment here in Louisville.
This is Kentucky Sports Radio. Welcome back, final segment here
Kentucky Sports Radio. On my return show. I will be
hopefully don't have to miss a day from now until March.
I don't have one playing knock on wood, but you know,
hopefully without a sickness or something, we won't have to
(34:01):
do that. So I'm excited to be back. A couple
of things here at Shady Race. First of all, thank
you the woman who made me the is that was
that a blanket or a throw.
Speaker 6 (34:11):
Either?
Speaker 5 (34:12):
Well you made it? Which one?
Speaker 4 (34:13):
Do you?
Speaker 6 (34:15):
All right?
Speaker 5 (34:16):
I'll just call it a blanket? Who knit it? It
is wonderful Kentucky went.
Speaker 6 (34:20):
Thank you very much for doing that. That is very
very sweet.
Speaker 4 (34:26):
One. Also, tomorrow game is at noon. We we're gonna
have it at Ksbar. Please come visit Ksbar this weekend.
Come before the Eric Church concert tonight. We'll have stuff
going the game tomorrow or after to watch the games,
or Sunday love to have you all out there. We
haven't had some home games in a while, so we'll
come see us. And then next week Tuesday, Wednesday and
(34:47):
Thursday we will be there for the show. But we'd
love to have you come out to Ksbar this weekend.
Come say hi to everybody before we get to Big
Blue mad A Saturday third And I wanted to note this.
This happened while I was gone, right after right after
I left. I want to note the passing of our
friend Manny Robertson. He's somebody who's been friend of mine
for a long long time. He was part of the
(35:10):
owner of a group of the place next door to us,
but has been in our lives and people in Lexington
for a long time. That happened right before I left.
I hated I had to miss his funeral, but his
brother Scotti, is a good friend of ours, and he also.
Speaker 6 (35:26):
Huge UK fan.
Speaker 4 (35:27):
I mean, if you watch UK you've probably seen he
probably saw him in the crowd, sometimes just a few
rows up cheering. But I also want to say to
him he say to his family. Everybody knows he was
a great friend to the people he was friends with,
one of whom is standing next to me, you know
you got a hope in life. You have somebody that's
as loyal to you as many was to his friends.
(35:49):
Aaron Fleener, who's our friend, who's a caddy with JT posting.
He traveled all over the world to go cheer that
guy on in golf tournaments, the US Open, the British
Open with our friend Kip Bull.
Speaker 5 (35:59):
When he played, Manny would be.
Speaker 4 (36:02):
There cheering him and his I've watched him over the years,
how good he was to Drew specifically one of maybe
Drew's best friend as an adult. And I know it
was difficult on you, Drew, but I wanted to say,
God bless Manny, God bless his family. No bigger UK fan,
and to me, for people, there was no better way
(36:23):
to be a friend than the way Mannie Robertson was
a friend to people.
Speaker 5 (36:27):
Thank you very much for saying that we all love Manny.
I got a chance to talk a little bit about
him on this show. You're gonna get me teared up,
but I was gonna cry tomorrow watching Kentucky football playing Georgia.
But you got me my feelings here. You mentioned Fleiner.
They're playing their first tournament right now. Since since Manny passed,
they're wearing Manny ribbons and last I saw there in fifth,
so maybe Manny can pull them too. A win that great,
(36:48):
That would be pretty magical. But yeah, we're we're missing
pretty bad. It's not gonna get easy for a while,
but we're trying to just focus on the good times
and how lucky we were. Well.
Speaker 4 (36:56):
One of the things Many would always talk to me
about when it was time was he wanted to talk
about the gambling for the weekend, so we might as
well in honor, and many do it right now DraftKings
sportsbook promo codis KSR. While I was gone, you all
hit another KSR parl so we are.
Speaker 6 (37:12):
Now that's two for the year. If you bet them all,
you wouldn't have money.
Speaker 4 (37:16):
Even if we lose every single one from now to
the end of the year, you would come out and positive.
So everything else is just a bonus now that we've
hit two. But let's go ahead and do it. I'll
pick mine first, since I wasn't part of the last one,
I'm going to take.
Speaker 5 (37:29):
Well, which one did I want?
Speaker 2 (37:30):
Miamii?
Speaker 6 (37:31):
But what was the other one that came up in
a minute later? Caro, Yeah, I'll stick with Miami.
Speaker 4 (37:36):
I'm gonna take Miami to cover the four and a
half again out on the road at Florida State.
Speaker 6 (37:40):
I think Miami's legitimate.
Speaker 4 (37:41):
I think Florida State's living a little bit off that
Alabama victory to start the season.
Speaker 6 (37:46):
Give me Miami to cover the four and a half
against Florida State.
Speaker 5 (37:48):
What do you got you?
Speaker 3 (37:49):
Florida has been awful this year. They're gonna continue to
be awful. What they're gonna lose Tomorrow? Texas is coming
into town, and I'm gonna take Texas to win at Florida.
Speaker 2 (37:59):
I was State dranked fourteenth in the country and they're
on the road at Cincinnati and they're an underdog. So
I'm taking Iowa State to win at Cincinnati.
Speaker 4 (38:06):
They're going at Cincinnati Cincinnata Scott centerfield. Scott's totts has
been better than you would think so far this year.
Speaker 7 (38:13):
Not tomorrow.
Speaker 5 (38:13):
Okay, but wait, did you go to.
Speaker 6 (38:16):
Dan Keys game against nebra Gas, Michigan.
Speaker 2 (38:18):
How was that? The atmosphere was incredible? Of course, it
was an awesome game. He only had two catches and
the little disappointed after the game then because they lost,
But it was an unbelievable invite. Did you enjoy it
every second of it?
Speaker 6 (38:29):
Cool? That's awesome. What about you? What's your game?
Speaker 5 (38:32):
Uh? I'm not gonna leave the city of Louisville.
Speaker 2 (38:34):
Uh.
Speaker 5 (38:34):
And I gotta be honest. I try not to bet
Louisville games because I see through glasses with hatred. I
don't actually look at the game.
Speaker 4 (38:40):
Should have lost last week that I actually got to
watch their game and they should have lost.
Speaker 5 (38:45):
But go ahead, but they're hosting Virginia. Virginia just cracked
the top twenty five. Six and a half points is
too many. Maybe Louisville wins, but I'll take Virginia covering
six and a half here in Louisville. Wow, I don't
like that pick. I think Louisvill's gonna pound them.
Speaker 4 (38:59):
I think Louisville's gonna end up being like not ten
and two, but not be very good, and then they'll
get left out of the playoff and we'll have to
listen to them whine all year because they'll get left
out for some team that has three losses and they're
gonna be really mad. That's my You remember I said this,
they go ten and two, they're not very good. They
(39:19):
get left out of the playoff, and then they whine
about bias the entire offseason.
Speaker 6 (39:23):
Ryan write that down. I would bet on that right now.
Speaker 7 (39:25):
I would trade places with them right now.
Speaker 4 (39:27):
Oh for sure.
Speaker 5 (39:28):
No, they're better than us.
Speaker 7 (39:29):
They could be in that situation, I'd love to be
crying about it.
Speaker 4 (39:31):
That ten and two is probably gonna be include to
win over us, don't get me wrong. Now, Kentucky and
Georgia game tomorrow's at noon. Our pregame show will be
at nine. We're gonna do it from the studio, but
tune in at nine o'clock. We'll have more to say
about the state of football. It's Jeff Pcorrel's birthday today.
By the way, what do you think Drew any chance
or I mean, there's not a chance for us to
(39:53):
win down there, But what are the chances it's a
game in the fourth quarter.
Speaker 5 (39:59):
I actually I said this about South Carolina though, so
here I am walking right into another bad take. But
I will not be the least bit surprised if Kentucky
is in the game for a little while, being in
the fourth quarter, I'll give that like a ten percent chance.
But this game's traditionally closed. Last year was thirteen to twelve.
I don't know if it'll be that ugly, but with
the style of play and if Kentucky cannot turn it
(40:21):
over four times in a quarter, I think it won't
be a blowout. That being said, I don't see any
scenario where Kentucky wins it. But I don't think we're
gonna be looking at like forty seven to seven and
come home with it something that bad. All right, well,
then let's make a prediction.
Speaker 6 (40:34):
What's your score?
Speaker 5 (40:36):
Forty seven to ten and I'm just kidding twenty seven
to nine. I think Kentucky cleans up the offense and
just can't get into the end zone.
Speaker 4 (40:44):
Twenty seven to nine would be such a mark, students,
I know. I think we have three goals nine points.
We have three drives where we threaten.
Speaker 5 (40:52):
Cutter Balwy looks a little better, they protect the ball
and just still don't find the end zone. That's how
I got to the nine.
Speaker 4 (40:57):
I will say in the first half, I did know
Seth McGowan's dude, like, I don't know if we're gonna
get I don't know if he's gonna get the props
he deserves because we're not good. But Seth McGowan's dude
at running back, Like, that's a really good player that
I wish we had.
Speaker 5 (41:10):
I want a better team because I think he's real.
What's your score?
Speaker 2 (41:13):
I'm kind of drew. I don't think it's gonna be
a blowout because you know, Mark Stoops and uh Kirby
Smarter like good buddies.
Speaker 5 (41:18):
Kroby Smart, Herby Smarter, They're.
Speaker 2 (41:20):
Like buddies, and you know they they kind of play
the same way. So I think in the spread's probably
right on. So I'm gonna go thirty eight thirteen.
Speaker 6 (41:28):
Wow, that's all right, thirty eight thirteen.
Speaker 3 (41:30):
Kentucky's gonna try to slow the game down, control the
time of possession. I don't think it's gonna matter, though.
I think Georgia wins thirty five sixteen. Aden l Ross
is my MVP.
Speaker 5 (41:40):
Yeah, back to punt. This is a year.
Speaker 4 (41:42):
I mean, this is a huge game. Just to keep
people even caring for the rest of the year. I mean,
we we go into a bye next week that will
have big blue madness. This fan base is ready to
shift its attention. The Reds have just finished, so to
what extent people like that that's over as well. I mean,
everything is going to shift into basketball gear, and if
Kentucky takes a big beat down tomorrow, especially an embarrassing beatdown,
(42:07):
it could be really really bad. I mean, if they
get pounded, then I think it's gonna be bad. I
don't think they're gonna get pounded, but I also don't
think they're gonna be really competitive. I think it's gonna
be like thirty to thirteen or something like that, and
we end up taking the defeat. But we will be
here at nine am to talk about it. Thank you
all very much here at Shady Race. It is awesome
(42:29):
to come home and see an absolutely packed crowd. We
appreciate it. We will see you tomorrow morning. This has
been Kentucky Sports Radio.
