This is Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage.
Speaker 3 (00:33):
Now here's Matt Jones.
Speaker 4 (00:35):
Welcome everyone.
Speaker 5 (00:36):
It is Kentucky Sports Radio, Monday, October the sixth. I'm
Matt Jones here on the floor of historic Memorial Coliseum,
where the UK volleyball team practices and plays, and where
later today it is UK Basketball Media Day. Matt Jones,
Drew Franklin, Shannon Dude, you can give shallon Clarks Puppy

go ahead and tell you this is gonna be one
of the I don't want to say, more awkward shows,
but it's gonna be one of the more interesting shows.
Speaker 4 (01:14):
In terms of place.
Speaker 5 (01:16):
Ryan Lemon is not here today, so we are here
at media Day, but we have a couple of things
going on. First of all, we have to talk about football,
probably not gonna be a positive conversation. We have to
talk about football rumors that coaches leaving, which is not
easy to do when the AD's office is a few
steps from us. Right that wall, there's the athletic director.
(01:38):
It's basketball media day, and for reasons that I don't understand,
we have no players or coaches coming on with us.
Speaker 4 (01:45):
But that's the way it goes. It's media day. It
is media day.
Speaker 5 (01:50):
But you know what, today, I give them credit for
for letting us be here. There have been times that
they've stood outside the gates with weapons to keep us out.
Speaker 4 (01:58):
So we are here.
Speaker 5 (02:00):
We don't get to talk to anyone, but nevertheless we're here,
and that way we can go to the media day
as soon as it's over. Hopefully, I'm hoping that Mark
Pope or one of the coaches will be sitting in
the staff and someone will say, you know what, they're
right there on the other side of that wall. They're
right there, because I think if they get that message
to them, I do think they would come.
Speaker 4 (02:21):
But we'll see.
Speaker 5 (02:22):
But either way, we're here, and honestly, in the first
hour we probably we're gonna have to talk some football
to begin with. But Drew, it's always cool to be
at media day. The first one of these I went
to was the two thousand and five, two thousand and
six team. I'm trying to think who was even on
that team. That was after the whole Bogan's crew and
all that people. Those people had gone. It was like
(02:43):
Ramel and Joe, it was Bobby Perry, that kind of thing.
And I've been I think this is my twentieth one.
Speaker 6 (02:47):
It's always fun getting to know the new players. It's
getting a little different where there's some returners now. For
many years we were literally meeting the entire team for
the first that's true.
Speaker 4 (02:58):
And guess what I mean.
Speaker 5 (03:00):
I know Brandon Garrison right, but like I'm gonna be seen,
I've seen Jalen Low, I've met him but outside like
Diabate and uh Cam Williams and and we got some
news yellowch is eligible now. So I mean those guys,
this will be the first time I've seen them.
Speaker 6 (03:16):
Yeah, it's always it's always good to just I know,
not everyone gets into the nerd out of the media stuff.
I hope you'll read and listen to our content. But
it's always exciting because you know, it's not the start
of basketball season, but it does kick it up another
notch when we finally get out here and get around him.
Speaker 5 (03:29):
Well, we'll do a little bit of basketball as much
as you can do on media day with no one
here with us. But we we got to talk about football.
Are you good?
Speaker 6 (03:38):
No, I'm not not good at all, to be honest,
I was gonna say, are you good if we don't
talk about the about the game and we just got
to do everything else about whatever you want to talk about.
Speaker 4 (03:51):
But you do you want to talk about the game?
Speaker 5 (03:54):
We can only looked all right, he looked okay, yeah,
yeah he had he had some moments, all right.
Speaker 6 (04:01):
So that was the game.
Speaker 4 (04:03):
Another good end of the first half.
Speaker 6 (04:05):
Oh, just getting free tired of those two.
Speaker 5 (04:08):
Yeah, I mean you did what are you gonna do,
but so so I think every Really, the conversation about
UK football is now about what's what's to come in
the next few weeks. You have a bye next week,
You're you're two and three, and let's just go over
a timeline of what happens since the last time we
were on the radio.
Speaker 4 (04:23):
It's shady race. Uh Lexington radio personality Alan Cutler, come man,
he Uh, Jimmy, Jimmy Jimmy.
Speaker 5 (04:32):
Social sources say sources, so say no filter, no no filter.
Speaker 4 (04:36):
Uh.
Speaker 5 (04:37):
He came out with a report on Friday that sort
of got people all up at arms, basically saying that
Mark Stoops had gone to Mitch Barnhart and said he
wanted out and uh to to let him go, but
that Mark Mitch Barnhart said no. We talked about this
on the pregame show. You can hear us talk about
(04:58):
it pretty extensively.
Speaker 4 (04:59):
I thought that.
Speaker 5 (05:02):
If not, I don't want to say incorrect report, but
incorrect report, I mean, it wasn't well because I don't
want to say I mean, I'm sure Alan heard that.
I'm not disparaging that he heard that, but I don't
think that happened. I think in you know, A better
way to characterize is they had a meeting, there was
some disputes over some things, and Mark may have said, look,
you know, if you don't think this will work out,
you can buy me out. That's not the same as
(05:24):
going and saying I want out, which is kind of
what I think Alan said, which I think was not
the case.
Speaker 4 (05:29):
Do you agree with that?
Speaker 6 (05:30):
And I don't know the specifics of when the conversation happened,
who went to who, what exactly said, even though those
are big details. I just remember last season at one
point I heard from a couple of people in the
know that Mark would be willing to take a buy
out if they could get to a number, but UK
just nowhere near that, and that was kind of all
that was. Maybe there was more, but at least on
(05:51):
my end of what I heard was Mark was willing
to listen. Now I don't know if he approached Mitch
first or what, and then that they just couldn't get anywhere,
even in a.
Speaker 5 (05:58):
Ball I'll be stronger Mark, Mark Stoops did not go
and say buy me out. Now, I agree with you.
If they said, okay, we owe you forty million dollars,
we'll give you thirty nine not to coach. I'm sure
he would take that right. But you know, this season
I don't think is going well, and I don't think
it's going to go well. But I also don't think
(06:18):
it would be fair to say, like Mark Stoops doesn't
want to be here. I don't think that would be
would you agree? I don't think that would be a
fair thing to say.
Speaker 6 (06:24):
And then he's a competitor and he's been with these
guys since the spring. He's obviously not looking good. But internally,
you're not ahead SEC football coach if you don't have
the hunger and the competitive So you know, I think
he wants to see this through and finish it, even
though the rest of us on the outside link don't
have a lot of optimism and how that will look.
Speaker 5 (06:41):
So then all that stuff happens Saturday, and now we
have a bye week, and we talked on the postgame
show on Saturday about how you know, if you're gonna
make any kind of change, you would do it like today.
Now we got media Day, which is probably not something
they want to stomp on. So maybe you I mean,
I don't know, maybe you wait till tomorrow, but your
but let's do percentage ships. There was some random person
(07:06):
who put online that Mark Stoops was going to be
let let go today. People, for whatever reason just believe
that I don't understand all you have to do shit
and just put like Kentucky and then something relating to
the word news in your bio and then people are like, well, yeah.
Speaker 3 (07:25):
Yeah, but if it's on Facebook, people take that as truth.
Speaker 4 (07:29):
They take it as gospel.
Speaker 5 (07:30):
Like literally, we've entered a society where NBC News could
report something people go, I don't believe it, and then
Kentucky Butt News can put it and they'll go, do
you see this, Matt, It's true?
Speaker 6 (07:41):
Yeah, Like there's so many fake reporters. A lot of
this is in sports. The people fall for it. Like
if you just wear a suit in your profile picture
and put like four letters like WVGT, people are be like, well,
this guy they work for WVGT. This guy's reporting that
they're canceling the season.
Speaker 4 (07:58):
Listen to w ch check mark. He's got a blue
check mark. He has five dollars.
Speaker 5 (08:10):
It's like that joke from what comedian who says, you know,
if you get a limo, now you're basically going I
have forty.
Speaker 4 (08:19):
I haven't.
Speaker 5 (08:21):
But anyway, we believe there's zero percent chance Marks Tubes
is not the coach, correct.
Speaker 6 (08:26):
Yeah, I mean, I mean now now, I just don't
you know, I'm as upset with anyone. I just don't
know what doing it now would get you. At least
let him finish the year. If nothing else, just let
him take the losses. So it's you know, you're firming
the decision. I don't know if you did it right now.
I don't even know what the move would be because
if you hand it to Brad White, you know, and
then he gets on a little run, then it's like, well,
(08:47):
now do I have to keep.
Speaker 5 (08:49):
Brad White or there's there's no there's no upside. Yeah,
I just don't know why it wouldn't. It wouldn't do anything.
So then the second part was, and we did discuss
this on the post game show, if you're gonna make
an O C.
Speaker 4 (08:59):
Change, maybe you would do that.
Speaker 5 (09:01):
ESPN Radio Lexington, which I didn't know how to Twitter account, Okay,
I didn't until yesterday. It just put out as if
it was fact. Bush Hampden to Bush Hampden will be
let go.
Speaker 4 (09:15):
Tuesday just said it.
Speaker 6 (09:16):
And that's the letters ESPN that people know it.
Speaker 5 (09:19):
Says ESPN, and it didn't have a blue check mark
I'll note or it's just like an ESPN logo. And
so then now I understand why people would give that
some credibility. Yeah, I understand that because it's ESPN Radio
Lexington not that's not this station.
Speaker 4 (09:33):
That's that's uh, that's a different one. That's the one
Cutman's on.
Speaker 5 (09:37):
I didn't buy it, and quickly, well an hour or
two later, they they deleted the tweet and it said,
according to Steve Trestler and a former player, that's what
they're hearing.
Speaker 4 (09:53):
Who's Steve Tresting.
Speaker 6 (09:54):
I know Steve, he's a fan of the show. Who
is he? Uh, he does ESPN Radio, he does Legends.
Speaker 4 (10:00):
So I mean that's at least a name. Yeah, all right, So.
Speaker 5 (10:03):
I mean that I'm glad someone puts a name to it.
I made some calls last night. I'm told that's not
gonna happen, and I was told if it were to happen,
we would.
Speaker 4 (10:15):
Let you know.
Speaker 5 (10:15):
And I don't think that's gonna happen. So I think
Bush Hampden will probably finish it as well.
Speaker 4 (10:20):
I don't. I don't.
Speaker 5 (10:21):
I don't you know, who knows? Things can always change.
But I think you'll we get to we get the
bush the rest of the year too. I think so
too barring.
Speaker 6 (10:28):
You know, if they were to go four weeks without
a point or something, then you might revisit it.
Speaker 4 (10:32):
I just got a text message from Amy McGrath.
Speaker 6 (10:35):
She's running, you.
Speaker 5 (10:35):
Know, Mamie McGrath, she's back. No, this is like, it's
not just to me. This is a Matt Sam McGrath.
I'm running for US Senate. Here's why, so I can
lose by a lot again.
Speaker 4 (10:45):
Okay, go ahead.
Speaker 6 (10:46):
I thought you're saying, Hey, Matt, I'm running for cent
Do you have any TV shows right now? I'm hungry
for blood. You know, I don't think Hampden needs to
stick around too long unless this changes. But doing it
right now in the bye week again, I guess that
could be Stoops trying to send a message and get
some some excitement a little bit back, or at least
(11:08):
show that he's done something. But I don't expect it
to happen right now.
Speaker 4 (11:11):
I don't either, So so we are where we are.
Speaker 5 (11:14):
Postgame show was I mean, it wasn't a bundle of
joy in terms of what people's thoughts were.
Speaker 6 (11:19):
By the way, thanks for giving me South Carolina my
first career postgame show.
Speaker 4 (11:22):
That was fun. Well, yeah, Georgia was fun too.
Speaker 5 (11:27):
This fan base is like, they're out right, I mean,
they're out So is there anything you can do is
put like that? Well, okay, you say that, but let's
let's just go through the numbers. If we finished three
and nine, then it's obvious there'll be no supporters.
Speaker 6 (11:49):
I keep saying football doesn't have an equivalent of basketball,
like Saint Peter's are in Oakland. You just know, like
that's unacceptable.
Speaker 4 (11:57):
Three and nine, though, is sat people.
Speaker 6 (11:58):
I'm saying three and nine after not winning a home
game last year, and well, you know, all the numbers
we go through, that's about as close as you can
get to having an Oakland moment.
Speaker 5 (12:07):
All right, So so three and nine is Oakland. I
don't think they have a choice. Four and eight is
pretty close to Oakland, and I don't think they have
a choice. Six and six. I don't think you could.
I don't think you could fire him because he made
a bolt six and six. It would be hard to take.
I don't think you could improve. I think the number
that would make everything miserable. Is five and seven.
Speaker 4 (12:30):
Because that would mean that you beat a couple of
good teams.
Speaker 5 (12:33):
Because to get to five, to get to four, we're
gonna have to beat somebody good, and to get to five,
we're gonna have to beat two somebodies that are good.
That would be hard because I still don't think anybody
would be excited.
Speaker 6 (12:44):
And you're probably to get there. You probably will have
won the Governor's Cup in the last game of the year,
which is just another you know, big check mark for
a season.
Speaker 5 (12:51):
Yeah, but you can't get to five till you get
to four. And we're not assured to get to three
because Tennessee Tech is six and zero.
Speaker 6 (12:58):
They keep drilling.
Speaker 3 (12:59):
Teams know they're playing nobody game, yes.
Speaker 5 (13:04):
Game, So there is a sense of I mean, we're
gonna win that one, but you know we got it.
Speaker 4 (13:10):
Well, I don't know.
Speaker 6 (13:10):
We'll be limping into that one. They'll be fired up.
Speaker 5 (13:13):
There might be forty three people at that game. I
mean it's gonna be a noon start.
Speaker 4 (13:20):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (13:21):
I mean, if it's three or nine, it's obvious, and
I think I think most of us believe that's the
direction we're heading. There's just to me, there's no sense
in doing anything this moment. At least let him finish
it out at that point. If he doesn't win, then
you know.
Speaker 5 (13:34):
Well so, so let's just kind of summarize. We both
believe that when we play Texas in two weeks we
will have the same staff we have now. Yes, okay,
We both believe that if they were to finish with
three or four wins, UK will have to make a decision, yes,
and not just a decision a change, right, Yes, And
(13:56):
I think we.
Speaker 6 (13:57):
Us certain fours like ninety percent.
Speaker 5 (13:59):
Yeah, And then if they were to win six, we
think we'd be running it.
Speaker 3 (14:04):
Back, don't you statue.
Speaker 5 (14:05):
I don't know if we'll be able to statue, but
I think we'd be running back. And then five would
be the one that I don't think anybody wants to
predict what happens. The athletic article, by the way, that
I talked about last week, it did come out, and uh,
there's some quotes from me in it, but there's also
other stuff. And then basically the premise of the article is, yeah,
probably time for a separation. You don't really want that
(14:26):
to be on the national media with seven games to
go in the season.
Speaker 6 (14:31):
I got a New York Times like email with links.
You know it's New York Times. They made the links
for the New York Times. I mean yeah, New York Times.
So yeah, I mean it's that one's getting a lot
of eyeballs on it.
Speaker 4 (14:42):
Yeah, usually when it's in the New York Times. No
big thing.
Speaker 6 (14:46):
Hey can tell you. Football made the New York Times.
Speaker 4 (14:49):
We made the New York Times.
Speaker 6 (14:51):
The five win thing though, to make the basketball comparison again,
it's like we talked about what if cal you know,
loses a close win in the not in the Sweet.
Speaker 4 (14:59):
Sixteen, would I've been a Sweet sixteen loss?
Speaker 6 (15:01):
But to Lie it's like a big favorite. But to Drake, yeah,
it's an eight point favorite. It's like, well, we don't
know what to do now. That's what fis.
Speaker 5 (15:07):
That's exactly what it would be. Eight five, nine, twenty
two eighty seven. We are here, just mere feet away
from Mitch Barnhardt having to have this conversation.
Speaker 6 (15:17):
They closed the blonde, not at all, he did close
the blond.
Speaker 4 (15:22):
We'll be right back. Scans are welcome back. Take you
sports radio.
Speaker 5 (15:27):
I think the combination of us having to be a
little bit quiet and the fact that it's media day
with no basketball players, and the fact that like the
football thing happened.
Speaker 4 (15:39):
I think you're gonna get giddy Matt and Drew we
were uplate. I think we were uplate doing Conversya Roo,
which they still haven't released yet. I'm glad we stayed
up to one am for that. I like that.
Speaker 2 (15:49):
They also just closed the blonds on you, like they
don't even want to look at you.
Speaker 3 (15:52):
They they want to see your face.
Speaker 4 (15:54):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (15:54):
So I mean, like the combination of all that, I
think you're gonna get a giddy Matt. I just got
a text alert from I guess, I guess Reparita says this.
It says breaking news, Sherry Shepherd is coming to the
Opera House.
Speaker 3 (16:07):
On breaking news.
Speaker 5 (16:11):
Sherry Shepherd is that the woman from the View is
that I think she was the woman from the View
that replaced I'm a Lawyer, Star Jones, Star Jones. Shut
up and see if she's the woman from the View, Shannon,
because if so, then I think I have to go.
Speaker 6 (16:28):
I'm mad I didn't get an alert. I usually get
the alert.
Speaker 2 (16:31):
She is from the View, and she is from the Views.
She has her own show called Sherry.
Speaker 4 (16:36):
Oh she has our own show called Sherry.
Speaker 3 (16:38):
Yeah, it's daytime talk show.
Speaker 5 (16:40):
Oh man, I haven't gotten to check Sherry out the
group trip.
Speaker 4 (16:44):
Now that it was good breaking news, go Sherry Shepherd.
All right. If I'm nine two eighty seven, what person writes, Matt,
there will be multiple Kentucky Butt News accounts because of you. No,
I listen.
Speaker 5 (16:57):
I'm all for the hustle of these young because I
think it's also young guys or women like trying to
make it and create accounts and call them Kentucky Hoops
or Kentucky.
Speaker 4 (17:07):
I get it.
Speaker 5 (17:07):
But I would just say to you guys, like you
want to have credibility, you can't just throw something out
there and be wrong.
Speaker 4 (17:14):
Now.
Speaker 5 (17:15):
I mean, look, if something happens with Stoops or Bush today,
then I'll say, hey, Kentucky Hoops in your ear way
to go. But like you want to build a following,
you need to be right. And I think at least
in this case, certainly on the Stoops News it's not right,
and I'm pretty sure on the Bush News it's not either.
That one I wouldn't like go to the bank with,
but I do think I'll go.
Speaker 6 (17:34):
To the bank with the Stoops I mean, we could
believe the Bushman if it happened, even though we don't
think it's gonna happen. And for me, it's not the
people trying to make it that have their name on it.
It's like the anonucement accounts, where there's no consequences, Like
you just throw stuff out and if it's right, you
get one hundred thousand retweets, and if it's wrong.
Speaker 5 (17:51):
Yeah, nobody even knows who you are. That's just kind
of the world today. Let me ask, how did the
next eight weeks go.
Speaker 6 (18:00):
I'm afraid we all know exactly how it's gonna go.
Speaker 4 (18:03):
Oh how's that?
Speaker 6 (18:06):
I mean, I don't think they're gonna win a game
outside of Tennessee.
Speaker 4 (18:09):
See you three and nine, I could have.
Speaker 6 (18:14):
I still think Texas has me thrown off.
Speaker 4 (18:16):
I think they steal one.
Speaker 5 (18:17):
I think they're gonna end up winning one game between Florida,
Texas Vandy, Auburn Louisville. They're gonna win one of those.
I don't know how it'll happen, but they'll win one
of them. And then when that happens, I think there'll
be a lot of like rally around the.
Speaker 4 (18:35):
Chiefs.
Speaker 5 (18:35):
But I think if you don't win more than one,
I don't think it changes the calcul I mean, we
won one of them last year against Ole Miss Right.
Speaker 6 (18:44):
My concern is that was early in the season. I
worry about just how the locker room will be when
you get to Florida, because I think Florida's beatable. But
if you still haven't won at that point and Texas
and Tennessee have kicked your butt, I wonder just how
focused Kentucky's gonna be at that point.
Speaker 5 (18:57):
You could end Arch Manning's draft prospect in two weeks. Yeah,
I think Arch might have been serious.
Speaker 4 (19:02):
If he were to come down here and lose to us.
Speaker 6 (19:04):
But you have a lot of guys that it's you know,
some of them said on the show, this is their
last season. It's their one and done year. If you
get to the end of November and you haven't won
a game yet, I wonder about Kentucky keeping its focus.
I think that's a fair I mean, you saw a
little bit that beatable at the end. If you have
it together.
Speaker 5 (19:19):
You saw a little bit out of the end of
this at the end of the sideline, at the end
of the game. I mean, there were some some shots
of guys on the sideline. That didn't look good. And
you know, we saw a little bit of that at
the end of the season last year. But there's still
seven games lest what I mean, Yeah, Virginia for beating Louisville.
Speaker 6 (19:36):
Yeah, I'm now five and oh in the KSR parlay
this year. By the way, I can't cannot carry you
all forever.
Speaker 5 (19:43):
I mean, I'm three and oh I just have missed
a couple, but I'm three.
Speaker 4 (19:48):
Yeah, it's it's Ryan and Shannon. The way is down.
Speaker 3 (19:50):
But yeah, I think I won a couple at least.
But yeah, that was a terrible loss. I mean, Texas
or Florida felt like an easy pick.
Speaker 6 (19:56):
I love you pick, so that that was shocking. But
Louville losing that helps.
Speaker 5 (20:02):
Yeah, but but do you Okay, So what's the attendant's
gonna be like for Texas?
Speaker 6 (20:07):
That's the thing. You can't the fans can't send a
statement because Texas and Tennessee will be crowded. So that
might that might be orange.
Speaker 5 (20:14):
Isn't that the statement is Tennessee Tech. I mean the
statement crowd is Tennessee Tech. Because you're right, you're gonna
have a big crowd for Texas. You're gonna have a
big crowd for Tennessee, and you're probably gonna have a
decent crowd for Florida. Although Florida doesn't travel like these
other schools, but it's still Florida. So I think I
think to the extent, there's gonna be a statement crowd.
It's gonna be Tennessee Tech and unfortunately that's homecoming. Uh
(20:36):
you know, I think Kentucky do they play in like
Madison Square Garden or something the night before, Like that's
not gonna be good? Yeah, or no, is that the Saturday? Well,
I don't know. It's still not Gonn.
Speaker 6 (20:49):
It's up against something in that late in the year.
You don't have the calendar from me. But yeah, like
Texas and Tennessee, I have people who come to stay
with me. It's like people planned it, you know, a
year ago and kind of don't even care about the result.
It's just keenlan in the game they have on the
schedule to get to Lexington. So I still think that
one will be a good crowd, and it Florida. I
think we'll see, but at that point it's so far
(21:10):
down the schedule it might be a who cares across
the board if they haven't, if they get their butt
kicked at home two more times eight.
Speaker 4 (21:16):
Five, nine, two, eight, twenty two eighty seven. Who's up first? Shit, Adam, Adam?
Go ahead, Adam?
Speaker 7 (21:22):
Hey, what's up, Matt?
Speaker 4 (21:23):
What's going on? Man?
Speaker 7 (21:26):
Here's the thing. If they were to go five and
seven this year, I would be excited for this season.
You know, I want to beat Tennessee, I want to
beat loube I want to beat Florida. So those wins
would be great, but it still would not get me
excited for the future of the program. Does that make sense?
Speaker 4 (21:41):
It does make sense, actually totally.
Speaker 5 (21:43):
That's why I think that is why I think that
would be the worst record, because if you got to five,
you would have had a couple of wins that would
be really big wins. I mean, you would have beaten
You would have beaten either Texas in arch manning Tennessee,
your biggest rival, Louisville, your other biggest rival, or Auburn
and vagh on the road, which normally wouldn't sound like
a ton but they're both pretty good this year, So
(22:04):
like you're right, you would have two good wins, but I.
Speaker 4 (22:07):
Wouldn't be excited about next year.
Speaker 5 (22:09):
It's not like I'd be sitting there going, well, we're
building on this, right, there's also the.
Speaker 4 (22:15):
Go ahead at him.
Speaker 7 (22:17):
I don't hate Stoops, you know, I appreciate what he's
done for the program, but it's like, man, I hate
to cheer against the program, but three, yeah.
Speaker 4 (22:28):
You can't do that. I fight against that, and I
appreciate the go I fight against any cheering against the
like that that that to me would not be acceptable.
Speaker 6 (22:36):
Do you agree, especially with the teams left, I'm not
rolling over for Tennessee or Louisville, not giving into that
at all. Yeah, that's my team to win every day.
Speaker 4 (22:43):
That's not. Cheering against him is not something I'll ever do.
Speaker 6 (22:47):
Nome. But we don't get a better draft pick if
we tank.
Speaker 5 (22:51):
Or anything exactly. You play Louisville in that last game
and you get it, it's five. You're still beating Louisville
on their home field. You want that, right? If you're
a Kentucky fan, well take a break, be right back.
Speaker 4 (23:00):
KSR. TJ.
Speaker 3 (23:03):
Smith, personal injury attorney called TJ.
Speaker 4 (23:05):
He'll make them pay.
Speaker 2 (23:07):
No more of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage.
Speaker 3 (23:10):
Here's Matt Jones.
Speaker 5 (23:12):
Yeah, this is a little Bad Bunny that happened while
I was gone.
Speaker 4 (23:17):
Hala hey.
Speaker 3 (23:20):
I like Rick Flair's is random woo. Yeah, like in
the middle.
Speaker 4 (23:23):
Of it, it's great. Yeah, hala vla.
Speaker 5 (23:30):
This is the only song I know, and I just
know it because it's WW Entrance music. So he's gonna
be playing the super Bowl. We always have this conversation
every year, is an artist big enough to play the
Super Bowl? And last year they had Kendrick That was
the highest rated super Bowl ever. It was higher than
even the Michael Jackson one.
Speaker 4 (23:48):
What do you think about Bad Bunny second most streamed
artist in the world.
Speaker 6 (23:52):
Yeah, no, I see why they did it. He's the
most stream Yeah, he's definitely a big enough for me personally, though,
It's like it's like the turning of a page my
book of life, Like this is the year where I
don't know anymore. Like I know Bad Bunny and I
know you know, I've seen his intro at WWE, and
I know he's this big entertainer, seen the s and
NOL very familiar. But if you were to say, write
down some Bad Bunny songs, I couldn't couldn't name one.
Speaker 4 (24:14):
I got one. Maya halla that one right there.
Speaker 6 (24:19):
So so you still got it, You're still still I've
accepted that I'm gonna be the person at the super Bri.
I have one of his pairs of sneakers. See, look,
you're like a kid over here now.
Speaker 5 (24:29):
But I don't know anything about him. I won't know
any of his songs, but he's definitely big enough. Like
but it is, Attorney, I agree with you. It's a
turning to the page. Like everybody before, like the Bruno
Mars and all those guys. I was like, well, I mean,
I've at least I'm familiar with the music. This is
definitely a turning to the page. Like from now on
it's gonna be all like Charlie X one V or
(24:51):
something and I'm gonna go, Yeah, I don't know who
that is, So Shannon, it is like, I do think
Bad Bunny doing the halftime is kind of a we're
old moment.
Speaker 2 (24:59):
Yeah, I mean, I'm aware that he exists, but I'm
like you, guys, I don't know any of his music.
Speaker 3 (25:03):
But if you're the most streamed artist, if that's you
to do it, yeah, I mean.
Speaker 5 (25:07):
Yeah, I don't understand. I hear people got upset. That
didn't make any sense to me. Did they think that
the super Bowl? The super Bowl has to be like
what you like?
Speaker 3 (25:15):
I think they everybody if it was me.
Speaker 5 (25:17):
Is it just be Tyler Childers every halftime? And I
think at some point America would say can we get
someone else? I'd just be like, look, Tyler child Childers,
Sturgel but the first half of his career, I don't
know's okay, ignoring everything he's done in the last seven years
except the Bluegrass album, and then I guess Stapleton, I
(25:39):
don't know.
Speaker 4 (25:40):
And Dolly but fifty like forty years ago, Dodda. I
just think that that would be a hard one.
Speaker 5 (25:46):
I understand that they are like, hey, Spanish is you
know a lot of the world speaks it.
Speaker 4 (25:51):
Let's have this guy. I understand why that's going.
Speaker 6 (25:53):
No, I'm all good with it. I'm just I'm having
a hard time because for years I was the person
in front of the TV and looking back at the
older people at the party and they're eating chips.
Speaker 4 (26:02):
Like, what is this? I'm having to explain who who?
Speaker 6 (26:06):
Nelly is? Like, you should listen to Country Grammar, Mom,
It's a good song, but now not available. Now I'm
gonna be the old person at the party and you're
gonna tell me. So that's that's my whole thing with
it is, I'm just having to accept that the only.
Speaker 4 (26:19):
Old group Shannon and I think should get a ride
at it because they've never done it is Metallica.
Speaker 5 (26:24):
They should give Metallica a year because I don't think
they've ever done it, And that's like the one old group.
Speaker 4 (26:30):
That I think. I think even the kids could get
with Metallica for one year, don't you.
Speaker 6 (26:34):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (26:35):
I wonder if they would want to do.
Speaker 4 (26:36):
It though what they got better to do, Like, I mean.
Speaker 3 (26:39):
They're still selling out stadium.
Speaker 5 (26:41):
Yeah, I think they'll be fine if if if Bad
Bunny can do it, Metallicas can, they can arrange it
in their schedule.
Speaker 3 (26:47):
I feel like, I don't know they would want to
do it.
Speaker 5 (26:49):
But uh, but you think Metallica is too big for
the super Bowl, Shannon.
Speaker 3 (26:54):
I mean for free though they're gonna be playing free.
Speaker 4 (26:57):
I think they don't think they can.
Speaker 3 (26:58):
I don't think Metallica, Well.
Speaker 4 (26:59):
Then, well that is true. They were the napster people, like.
Speaker 3 (27:01):
Yeah, exactly, they were met.
Speaker 5 (27:04):
The thing about Metallica, I love Metallica, but there is
a sense of like your rock fight the power, and
you were the person that sued Napster, right, you know.
Speaker 3 (27:13):
That whole charge.
Speaker 4 (27:14):
They did lead that whole charge.
Speaker 5 (27:15):
All right, if I'm not too eight oh twenty two
eighty seven, I'm gonna go through some other little things out.
Speaker 4 (27:19):
Obviously football is probably gonna be the big topic. They're
bringing back the denim uniforms.
Speaker 6 (27:23):
M hm.
Speaker 4 (27:24):
You glad about that.
Speaker 6 (27:24):
I'm very glad they're gonna.
Speaker 4 (27:26):
Pope told a group on Friday, hoops and heels, what
is that?
Speaker 6 (27:30):
Uh, it's like one of the fundraiser women's things, So
it's for women, I believe. Okay, Well might have been
other people out there wearing heels. I wasn't there to
see mostly women. I told the women and.
Speaker 5 (27:41):
Billy at Hoops and Heels that that that they were
gonna have denim uniforms for multiple games this year.
Speaker 4 (27:48):
You like that?
Speaker 6 (27:49):
I like it a lot. That's I'm that perfect age
where I was a kid turned about ten years old
when they broke them out. I went to Patino's camp
where like everything was Converse blue. I still have a
lot of it, so I'm excited to have them bring
it back.
Speaker 5 (28:02):
Yeah, me too. So, uh, Saint John's probably be the
first game. Don't you think it's our road trip too?
Speaker 4 (28:07):
Yeah? I think that's where you break them out, break
them out against Saint John's and pick one sec home
game and then we roll. That's what I would do
with it if.
Speaker 6 (28:14):
I want the road I want the roads though, because
they were the actual true Denim the home Whites had
the dinner.
Speaker 4 (28:19):
Maybe we do that it.
Speaker 6 (28:19):
Yeah, I want a road game. I want full Denim.
Speaker 5 (28:22):
Yeah all right, well so I am glad about that.
I think it's cool. Uh, I think it's it really
is something for people though our age, Like I like
younger people don't even.
Speaker 6 (28:30):
Oh no, if like I just turned forty, me then
people around that age, it's perfect.
Speaker 4 (28:35):
It's really like programmed four people in their forties.
Speaker 6 (28:38):
Yeah, they just love. That's just the moment.
Speaker 5 (28:40):
You know what, society, All our politicians are older than you.
All the pop culture is younger than you. This is
the only thing you get. You all get the DNIM uniforms.
That's what you get.
Speaker 6 (28:52):
And I cannot wait, and I hope that UK will
keep doing this. Like two years ago they started, they
wore the ninety fours. I thought we're gonna start a
trend and have done anything else. But we have so
many uniforms that people love, and Kentucky has not been
good about getting alternates mixed up. Val To their credit,
they do it all the time. They have awesome, exact
old logos. Kentucky needs to do better. Yeah, it's a
(29:14):
good start with.
Speaker 4 (29:15):
The denim and we'll hopefully see get what's in him
to get a victory. All right, what's next year? Go
to Austin, Austin, Go ahead.
Speaker 8 (29:23):
Hey guys, first time, long time?
Speaker 4 (29:25):
Who what.
Speaker 8 (29:28):
So my I listened to the post game show yesterday
and my biggest takeaway from the game nobody mentioned after
that seth mcgallan fumble, our only player, only staff member
trying to get the ball snack as a red shirt
freshman quarterback making.
Speaker 4 (29:44):
Yeah, you're right, that was a disaster.
Speaker 8 (29:48):
That's the most incriminating thing on the coaching staff that
I've seen in a long time. How do we not
get that ball?
Speaker 4 (29:53):
Stat Well, that was to me and I appreciate the call.
Speaker 5 (29:58):
The end of the first half is embolic of why
this is, in my opinion, not going to get better.
You actually had a good drive drive the n The
first half was the best we looked the whole game.
Speaker 4 (30:09):
That drive.
Speaker 5 (30:10):
Great play calling. Cutter was on the money, on his throats,
good mix of running past. It was probably the best
of what Bush Hampden's trying to do. And then what happens.
You get in your own way, right, You waste time.
Jesse Palmer calls it out in the moment between his
Golden Bachelor promos. He is calling out how bad our
(30:30):
play calling is, and he's correct.
Speaker 6 (30:32):
This is terrible.
Speaker 4 (30:33):
This is he said, this is terrible.
Speaker 5 (30:35):
This is a man who goes on the Golden Bachelor
and he thinks this is terrible. He's like, this is terrible,
and no one and then we get down there and
we have a call that's closed. Cutter, it seems like
the only person that realizes it. No coaches are telling
them to go the offensive line is like playing wordle
in their head and no one snapping it. And he's
(30:56):
sitting there going like this, and then it's too late
and we lose the review. I mean, that is just
the combination of wasting time and then not seizing the moment.
Speaker 4 (31:07):
This is what I talk about about the fact we
do not play smart.
Speaker 5 (31:11):
You hear me say the word smart a lot about
like the next coach or Mark Pope. Smart matters. Talent
is more important than smart. But smart can.
Speaker 4 (31:23):
Go a long long way, and we are so unsmart.
Speaker 6 (31:30):
I just wondering what word you were gonna say there,
But it's.
Speaker 4 (31:36):
True, like we don't do the intelligent thing. And that
was a perfect example that drive.
Speaker 6 (31:42):
What made that worse is that's not the first time
this year where they knew a challenge flag was coming
from the scene. I forget the exact game because one
of the first weeks we hit a guy down the
sideline that wasn't a catch that they called a catch,
and we're all yelling, just snap the ball, do anything,
snap it and throw it in the crowd. Just do
not let them review it. We don't get the playoff
he gets turned. It's the same. It doesn't matter the
(32:03):
play you run. Jagger Burton should run to the football
and just snap it as quickly as he can to
anything so you can lock that in. But once again,
only one person are nineteen year old redshirt freshman is
the only one that.
Speaker 5 (32:14):
I mean, credit to him forgetting it and knowing it,
but like he can't be the only one that realizes snapping.
Speaker 6 (32:21):
That's like basic football. If there's a questionable call and
you have the ball, host snap as fast as you can.
Speaker 4 (32:26):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (32:26):
I mean part of it is we just sort of
in general, think the pace of a snail is the
way to lee of live life. Maybe if you know,
just occasionally you have a different pace.
Speaker 6 (32:38):
We've had two ABC games this year, and and both
of them the first half ended with us being laughed at.
I'm not kidding. They were openly making fun of Kentucky
on both ABC broadcasts.
Speaker 5 (32:50):
Somebody wrote me, I don't want to say their name,
but by the wheel Todd, and he says, I completely understand.
I'm not the demographic for Bad Bunny, but my high
school age kids aren't even really familiar with his music.
Speaker 4 (33:02):
Okay, I love you, Todd. Your kids go to Lexton Christian.
Speaker 6 (33:10):
The narrows it down.
Speaker 4 (33:12):
I'm just saying, like, there are other demographics besides Lexington Christian.
Speaker 5 (33:22):
That's not a shock to me that they're not bumping
Bad Bunny at LCA.
Speaker 4 (33:28):
Okay, but maybe other schools and my wrong mark? What
is the song? Hollo?
Speaker 5 (33:33):
Oh?
Speaker 6 (33:34):
What's the one? You know what I mean?
Speaker 4 (33:35):
We can't act like that's where all the trends. All right,
there are.
Speaker 6 (33:41):
Numbers Bad Bunny does well.
Speaker 4 (33:43):
Yeah, I mean they have. This is not my opinion.
He's the most streamed artist in the world. Now, maybe
they don't get it at ELCA.
Speaker 6 (33:53):
But we're all gonna learn Bad Bunny together.
Speaker 5 (33:56):
Sorry, I just felt I think that was fair. Corpusic therapy. Uh,
Mario and I were playing volleyball earlier. If one of
us had gotten hurt, we could have gone to court
physical theory. We would have been Mario because he can't move. Uh.
Court KRT dot court com. It's court physical therapy, no
reason of living pain. They'll help work it out, make
it to where you're like it didn't even happen before.
(34:17):
They accept almost all insurance. It's court physical Therapy KRT
dot com. Seventy locations around the state with court. See,
I told you I was gonna be in one of
these moods.
Speaker 6 (34:27):
Just something about just being me and you. Well, I
intentionally try to goof it up every time, but.
Speaker 5 (34:33):
Something about just being me and you and then we're
in this place where we have to whisper.
Speaker 4 (34:37):
And now I think the volleyball team's coming out here
or maybe somebody's on the tour recruiting visit. This is
a recruiting visit. Who is this kid? I don't know.
We're gonna control who's this kid? I don't know, but
what's his name? I hope you liked the place, Mario?
We could we could get some scoop. Mario. You're supposed
to know who that is? Man. He looks like he's good. Mario, Mario?
Speaker 5 (34:59):
Who is that? We'll be right back work a back
Tucky Sports Radio. All right, we did some research. Darren
Rippy Jr. That's who just walked through here. He's like
a great player, and he's like, oh, he's our top
guard exactly. We're trying to get him to be like
our point guard. Right.
Speaker 6 (35:19):
Yeah, Well when Tay Kenny from Kentucky elsewhere it was coming,
that's all right.
Speaker 5 (35:24):
When he walked through here. Just so you know, when
he walked through here and I was looking at him,
I'm calling a commitment. Oh I can see it on
his face. Did you see it? Did you see the
way he was like, Yeah, this is it. I can
see it in his eyes. He's coming here. Are we
worried that, like Billy was around you? If we if
(35:46):
he doesn't come. It's probably because he saw Billy. Because
Billy's wearing khaki pants. He did dress up for this. Yeah, like,
I'm a big believer. You don't go to schools where
people are wearing khaki pants. So I do think we
got to make sure that Darren Rippy did not think
Billy was on the staff. We got you need, Mario,
(36:06):
you need to go to Darren Rippy and go and
make sure it's with the Billy that he knows Billy
has nothing to do with this program.
Speaker 6 (36:15):
Pointed Billy, Mario, go did you see Louisville's director of
basket operations?
Speaker 4 (36:20):
Did you see him? I'm sorry. I apologize to people listening.
I knew this was gonna happen. I knew this.
Speaker 5 (36:28):
I knew this was gonna happen. How are you all
give people what they want? You just I knew the
fact I couldn't just be mad. I did the mad
on the postgame show. I was in mad. Goes to
giddy for me.
Speaker 6 (36:38):
Ryan's not here to keep us in check.
Speaker 5 (36:40):
One person writes yeah. One person writes, Matt, why do
the don't the opinions of the kids at l C
A matter? Why do you always have to make fun
of people who disagree with you, because I don't understand
why people believe Shanon. You and I talk about this
all the time. Why do people believe everything has to
appeal to them?
Speaker 3 (37:01):
You know what I mean?
Speaker 5 (37:02):
Like, why do you believe the super Bowl halftime show
is required to appeal to you?
Speaker 4 (37:07):
Like you don't get to decide everything? Right? Yeah?
Speaker 3 (37:11):
Well, I mean that's people that think that. I guess
they're entitled, right yeah.
Speaker 5 (37:14):
I mean like at this point, like fifty percent of
the country is not is minority in like twenty five
percent Spanish or twenty percent. I don't know what the
number is, but like Spanish is their first language. Yeah,
they get one, they get a show for them. Everything
doesn't have to be Jason al Dean.
Speaker 6 (37:31):
That would be a terrible half timb show.
Speaker 4 (37:35):
So you know, it's not required for you to like it.
Speaker 5 (37:37):
And by the way, if you're listening to this show,
chances are very how you're watching the super Bowl anyway.
So they're not trying to get you to tune in.
They're trying to get to people who don't tune in
to tune in.
Speaker 6 (37:47):
I mean, the super Bowl is obviously not taylored to me,
I'm a Titans fan.
Speaker 4 (37:50):
I mean, how about your watching yesterday? There we go,
what an insane win? For what an insane victory?
Speaker 6 (37:57):
We still ask? But sometimes the ball bounces way nine
or ten times in the fourth quarter. That was just
a blooper real for the Cardinals.
Speaker 4 (38:04):
So that's ridiculous.
Speaker 6 (38:05):
I said this on cover zero last night, But if
you played that fourth quarter a hundred times, Arizona would
win by at least fifteen, not even.
Speaker 4 (38:13):
Almost all of them.
Speaker 5 (38:16):
Darren Rippy, we're reporting he's coming to Kentucky. Right after
we saw him walk through here.
Speaker 6 (38:20):
Did you see the way he looked up at the lights?
They have the nice lights on, by the way, didn't though.
Speaker 5 (38:24):
Frown at Billy. That's the thing that worries me. We've
put a hindrance into this recruitment.
Speaker 6 (38:29):
Was Billy just walking around him?
Speaker 4 (38:31):
Anyway?
Speaker 6 (38:31):
What did he could he possibly be doing?
Speaker 4 (38:33):
Billy's walking like he owns this place. Didn't he go ahead?
Speaker 3 (38:37):
If we don't get the commitment, we're blaming it on
Billy there.
Speaker 4 (38:39):
All right? Who's neck? Truth? What's up? Truth?
Speaker 9 (38:43):
Hey man? I got a question. I heard you talking
about the dinner jeans about what did you know what
you was talking about?
Speaker 4 (38:53):
The new jeans uniforms? Yes?
Speaker 9 (38:58):
Yes, yeah? Did you know where that ad deal came from?
Speaker 4 (39:02):
Where?
Speaker 9 (39:04):
From a guy in Hendison, Kentucky who was a good
friend of Patino. He owned a business, a denim machine,
addim place for blue jeans and him Batino real?
Speaker 5 (39:16):
All right, hang on truth the way you're telling me,
I want to make sure I get my facts straight here.
You're telling me that Rick Bettino got the idea to
have denim uniforms because a guy in Henderson makes.
Speaker 4 (39:28):
Jeans, he owns the company, he.
Speaker 5 (39:31):
Owns the company. I'm throwing the challenge flag. I'm throwing
the challenge flag. Do you have any proof truth? Do
you have any proof of that?
Speaker 9 (39:41):
Yep? Because you know who works for him?
Speaker 4 (39:44):
Who works for.
Speaker 9 (39:46):
Walst McCarty above to work for him?
Speaker 5 (39:51):
All right, Well that is a connection. So you're saying Walter,
all right now, I just want to get clear. Walter
McCarty's brother works at the jean place in Henderson, and
that's how they got the idea to have the denim uniforms.
Speaker 4 (40:05):
All right.
Speaker 5 (40:08):
I don't know Dale Sikes, but so Dale Sykes is
the reason you're saying, yeah, all right, well.
Speaker 4 (40:18):
I'm gonna get We're gonna get our researchers on it. Truth.
Speaker 5 (40:21):
And I will say this, if you're right, that is
an interesting piece of UK history. If you're right about that,
that would be really interesting.
Speaker 4 (40:29):
Thank you. Truth. Good to hear from you.
Speaker 5 (40:31):
I think I'm gonna lean towards He's wrong, Shannon, right
or wrong for the truth that.
Speaker 3 (40:35):
I'm gonna say he completely made that up.
Speaker 6 (40:37):
Okay, true, right or wrong, I'm gonna go wrong. I
have a lot of ties to Henderson, Kentucky. I got
my driver's license suspended there. I've been to the beautiful
movie theater right there on the corner many time. It's
by the Taco Johns and trees and Trends. Love Henderson, mister.
Speaker 4 (40:52):
B I think we got bed bugs one time in
I mean the memories we have.
Speaker 6 (40:57):
I don't believe this though.
Speaker 4 (40:58):
I think Converse probably pays a big role in it.
Speaker 5 (41:00):
Probably, But you know, right the way of a good
somebody seven seven two seven seven four five two five four.
Speaker 3 (41:06):
Who's next, Let's go to Hunter, Hunter?
Speaker 4 (41:09):
How are you Hunter?
Speaker 7 (41:09):
Hey?
Speaker 4 (41:10):
Hunter, I have the Gene Company.
Speaker 6 (41:11):
By the way that he's brought up, it is a
nationally recognized gene company.
Speaker 5 (41:14):
Okay, I believe the company exists. I'm talking about the uniforms,
but go ahead, Hunter.
Speaker 10 (41:20):
So I want to bring up somebody that I haven't
heard be talked about. Matt Hartline or Mike Mike Cartlin, Right,
so I don't I know he does something with the offense,
but not really sure.
Speaker 4 (41:32):
That's his brother Brian. That's his brother Brian.
Speaker 10 (41:37):
Okay, he Mike is on UK staff, right.
Speaker 4 (41:40):
I think you're right. Yeah, we have Mike.
Speaker 10 (41:43):

Speaker 4 (41:48):
Correct.
Speaker 10 (41:49):
Is there any chance that he could be on one
of Mitch's little sticky notes in the desk?
Speaker 4 (41:55):
I think he would be, Yes, I do think. I
do think on that list what he would be on it? Yes?
Speaker 10 (42:01):
Okay, good. So obviously you can't fire soups and hire
somebody like that in the middle of the season. So
if you're Barnhart and you have two weeks to sit
here and ponder if we get beat next week or whenever,
what's your moves? If you're in his sues, what are
you doing?
Speaker 5 (42:19):
It's a good question. We gotta go to break. I'll
deal with it when we come back. We will talk
a little basketball with all of the folks here that
we're interviewing.
Speaker 4 (42:26):
We'll be right back. This is Kentucky Sports Radio.
