The one message they all said it over and over
this is we're winning number nine. They probably if you
watched it, and they just counted the amount of times
they said the number nine. It was probably forty. I
mean it was just nine, nine, nine nine. Mark Pope said,
I'm glad we're preseason number nine because that's part of
our destiny this year is nine. It's clear they're pounding

that in their heads. I also don't think you say that,
Drew unless you think there's a legitimate chance that you
could be.

Well, do you agree? The tone has just changed so
much from the last coach. It used to be we
would do these media day interviews and I guess there's
nothing wrong with this, but it would be I want
to be the first pick. I want to be Anthony Davis,
I want that Max deal. There were times where the
would turn around, point the wall at Devin Book or whoever,
and be like, I want to get paid like that.
Now you go around the room, the answer every time

is we want number nine. We want the national championship.

And they prefer that. Right.

Yeah, it's and again, of course the other guys that
they should have that dream. I'm not making it a negative.
I'm just saying it's changed. Everyone says number nine when
you're talking about what they want to achieve.

It's obvious. They're trying to adjit ingrain in their mind
kind of you know, manifestation, make it talking into existence,
make it happen. So I love it. I love They're
not shine away from it at all.

I also think it was interesting. It's always interesting me.
Who do they take to these things? Not a surprise
they take O take away. I think people would guess that,
but anybody who does it. By my Jaalen low Stock,
there's a reason why he's the second person there.

Yeah, that was a big vote of confidence in him,
not just that he'll be one of the star players,
but as a leader too. They could have gone a
lot of directions in that second spot. I think that's
a big endorsement of him, more of even how he
plays basketball at the fact that you just trust him
to speak on behalf of everyone.

Yeah, I love Otega said he's he's back, he's he's
been ready to practice.

And guy, he's now practicing on a daily basis. That

News came out of that yesterday. I think that saying
he's back.

Mark Pope also said he scheduled Perdue because he wants
us to jump right in in the basketball season.

He was like, I want to know immediately where we are.

If you listen to him talk about Purdue, he sounded
like a guy who's trying to win the game.

Speaker 4 (07:21):
Though he wasn't like this is just a practice.

He was like, I want to see where we are
now so that we can see where we're going.

And a lot of coaches will say bring it on anywhere, anytime,
and they don't always follow it up when they make
the schedule. Pope really seems to want to play Markey
opponents as often as he can. He said he wants
to add more games to schedules just so he can
add more Markey opponents, not more cupcakes. I really believe
him when he wants all these challenges, says he wants.

A part of me is sad those games that gets
Trancy and Georgetown or Wesleyan are gone. But you can't
help but get excited. You got the number one team
in the country coming in here. I'm gonna find exactly
where you are right in the season. Start.

Do you think, like, like, what do we think that
atmosphere is gonna be like for that game?

Speaker 4 (08:01):
Like you think it's gonna be uh.

Speaker 5 (08:03):
You think it's on fire, You think it's gonna be
as rowdy as like a normal regular season game.

Speaker 3 (08:07):
You do, our fans will treat that like it is
the Final Four, whatever happens. If we lose, there'll be complaining, overreacting.
If we win, there will be overreacting. We're gonna treat
that like it's the biggest game that's ever been played.

Speaker 6 (08:20):
Are they making you do a post game show after.

Speaker 4 (08:21):
They're in a pre and postgame show for that game?

Speaker 6 (08:24):
Yeah, that tells you right there, how big? And they'll
you'll have full bank of callers after an exhibition game
against Purdue. I guarantee it.

Speaker 4 (08:30):
Let's say we lose, though, Are we going to overreact? Yeah?

Speaker 3 (08:33):
Of course people won't panic and sky's falling, but there
will be a big frustration over losing a game that
will have no impact on your resume.

Right, let's say we win by eight or ten.

Speaker 5 (08:44):
Are the expectations for this team then completely out of
out of control?

And we are by far the most obnoxious fan base
in sports. If that happens, we won't shut up. We'll
be at airports pumping our chest with our logos on
like we do anytime our team is good. We will
You will not be able to shut us up if
we give it to them pre handily in their first game.

Speaker 6 (09:05):
Yeah, because everybody across the country says Purdue is the
number one team, like there's no discussion, it's perdue. And
then Houston, so they're able to knock off the number
one team run off the bat. Absolutely, we're gonna.

Speaker 5 (09:15):
I think it's a It's a great situation for Kentucky
because in some ways it's no lose because if you lose,
it's the number one team in the country. But if
you win, then you go, oh, wait a minute, this
is not just hype.

Speaker 6 (09:29):
This is real, right, Yes, and we will. We will
take it to the f degree. We're just so excited
about it. So what do we overreact or not? Just
who we are? This makes Kentucky basketball specially.

Speaker 3 (09:38):
And you have Louisville three weeks away on top of it.

That's true.

I hate that Louisville so early. I really don't like that.

I wish I that's one of those it was not
broke quie, did they fix it? I mean that that
that Louisville game kind of between Christmas and New Year
is the last game before you went into commence play.

I don't like playing them November eleventh. I really don't.

And maybe that's just what it'll have to be for
the rest of the time, but I don't like it.

teams are wanting to take that time between Christmas and
New Year off. Now they're just and most teams already did.
We were one of the few teams that played those games.

I don't like it either. But if you beat Purdue
and you have that excitement, then you beat Louisville. My goodness,
it's not even middle of November and the fans will be.

fifth game of the year. Whereas it used to be
the first or second game. Now it's like the fifth
game of the year.

For some reason, in my mind, I'm okay with that
game being early. I guess maybe because we used to it.
I do not like the louisvill game being this early

Yeah, one person, rights, Matt, you're dismissing toughness of the
air Force. Did you know we have an Air Force
pilot and a mom running for Senate. I don't know
how you could say that.

Hey, Matt, I was curious, what percentage of fan base
do you think wants Stoops to be let go because
they really want some roll? And how likely do you
think some roll would come here versus other job openings.

Yeah, so I don't think this is just my take,
and I appreciate the call. I think last year a
lot of the people that wanted Stoop's gone, were people
who also wanted some wrong, right, It's almost like I
want Stoops gone because I want some wrong. I don't
think that's what it is this year. I think this
year there's a huge segment of the fan base that

just wants him gone, and it doesn't even matter what's next,
Like if some ro All goes somewhere else, they're still
gonna feel that way either way. They're just like, give
us a new breath, no matter who it is. Would
you agree with that?

I agree with that Some are All is still the
dream for most people. But I think it's flipped to
where anything a lot of people will be like this
tree I'm looking at, just give me something that's not
Mark Stoops.

Speaker 6 (12:30):
I think, yeah, some ofow's going somebody's gonna grab him.
I mean that's obvious. Big School's gonna grab him. He
may not be available even if Kentucky job becomes open.
So Kentucky, who do they go after that young go
get her? Is that gonna be the answer or.

But I think for a lot of fans they don't
the first last year, I think the first question should
you keep Stoops's tied with the second question of who
they wanted.

Now I think fans are we don't we want to change,
and I don't even like we'll worry about who it
is after that. Let's just change and then we'll worry
about it.

Last year, somem Raw's personality was working against Stoops with
a lot of the fan base. This year, Stoops's record
is just beating himself up. He doesn't need a popular
candidate to upset fans or want to change.

It's gonna though, what if I mean, what if we
played Texas and beat them or lose out a last
second field goal?

Speaker 4 (13:20):
Like I just I think what's crazy is I don't
think it's gonna change anything.

I think we have a chance to beat a Manning
on our home field, a team that was a preseason
National Championship favorite, and for a lot of our fans,
it would not even change how they fail.

It would Well, if they win seventeen to fourteen, people
still be met.

Or what if we won.

Now, if your offense suddenly shows some groove, you win
thirty something to twenty eight, that's exciting. But for me
and a lot of people with the biggest issue, it
has been over two years since the offense has scored
three touchdowns in a game we have that.

Is that they started. That is just study acceptable.

This is statistic that isn't in an SEC game or
just any in a power for a game.

of people going, how do I get that?

me saying Navy seals are not the toughest. It's something
called Delta Force, which branch is that. I've heard of them,
but I can't tell you where they for.

Okay, so maybe we could get Delta Force versus Navy
seals going at each other. I think that would be
that that I'd watch that when you who's the toughest.

he's doing all this. He could fit for one of these.

Yeah, I'll pick the Delta Force over Randall Cobb and

the fans against Mark Stoops.

It's never the person that's on the field or the
person that's coaching. It's always me. Uh. You used to
want him to have a statue. Now you encourage people
to get rid of him for ratings. You're gonna do
the same thing to Mark Pope, just wait and see. Well,
first of all, I don't know that I encourage the statue.
I do think there was a time where I said

that he had earned a statue if we ever did it.
I don't even think that's necessarily incorrect. I mean, he's
probably the best coach we've had. That doesn't mean you
can have a statue, and it's still not be he
should coach forever, right, I mean John cal Perry might
deserve a statue somewhere. He shouldn't have been to coach anymore.
And as far as that you turn on him, I don't.

I'm not turning on anyone personally. Sometimes people's times have.

You can be great at something, and that doesn't mean
that you should keep doing it forever. So you know,
there might be a time that we go Mark Pope,
it was awesome, Now it's time for something else. That's
just the nature of coaching. You don't get to there's
no there's no requirement that you should get to coach

until the day you die, like you should coach until
you're effective, until you're not effective.

And at least recently.

Mark Stoops has not been effective, and ultimately that's what
you're talking about. The day you start I heard a
baseball GM say, the day you start rewarding pit players
for what they did in the past, you guarantee your
bad future. The day you start rewarding coaches for what
they did in the past and not what they're going

to do in the future is drew.

The day you start losing.

Speaker 3 (20:20):
Yeah, I still think maybe not a statue, but I
still think they should do something for Stoops at the stadium.
He should be recognized over there. Maybe not right now,
but eventually that should still be there. And I still
think if you can't find a way to win a
few more games than it should probably over you can
both of those things.

Both of those things can be true. Yes, I think
both those things are true. Said, I know we said
this about cal two years ago. Cala Perry should be
celebrated for what he did here. It was also time
for it to end. Those two things are not inconsistent, right.

And it makes me a little sad. I mean, I
love Mark Stoops as my coach. I wanted him to
be my coach, but it's just not working right now,
and it makes me sad because we did. He's the
longest tenured coach in the SEC right now. Nobody's coach
longer than him in the SEC. I just tells you
what the shelf life of a coach, how long it
really is.

That's part of the problem.

He's the longest tenured and there's sixteenth out of sixteen
like that in itself is not a good look.

to me, that's what I would be skeptical of.

location is you know, it's on the south end of campus.
The only reason people go there is to a baseball game,
a football game, or a soccer game, or don't over
there students there.
