Speaker 3 (00:35):
Welcome everyone. It is Kentucky Sports Radio. Thursday, October the sixteenth.
I'm Matt Jones here at the KS Bar and Grill
on another beautiful fall day in well not Louisville, in Lexington.
You can come and see us for lunch. We've got
a couple here already from Henry County, Kentucky. They said
the best restaurant there is called Our Best. It's a
(00:58):
good name for a restaurant in a county. If you're
gonna say, all right, what's the best restaurant in the county,
it's in the name right.
Speaker 4 (01:04):
If I'm if I'm googling where to eat there, I
know exactly where I'm going go.
Speaker 3 (01:07):
To the best one. So uh, you can give child
the Clark's Puppet Shop phone line eight five nine two
eight oh twenty two eighty seven. A Vision Auto Glass
text machine is seven seven two four five two five four.
In this scision sponsored by the t J. Smith Office,
if you call TJ, he'll make them pay.
Speaker 5 (01:22):
Uh.
Speaker 3 (01:22):
Come out and see us today, We've got We're gonna
be here for lunch and then tonight is Bengals Steelers.
Adam Sandler is in town, are you?
Speaker 4 (01:29):
Uh?
Speaker 3 (01:30):
Are you big Adam Sandler fan? Uh? I like his movies. Uh.
Speaker 4 (01:33):
You know, you might sing the honk a song a
little bit, but I won't be making my way over
to Roup.
Speaker 3 (01:38):
I like him. I wouldn't even go to Rupp to
see to see Adam Sandler. I mean, if it's one
of the biggest starts in America.
Speaker 4 (01:45):
Nothing to do in you handed me tickets, I would go,
But I mean I'm not gonna go out.
Speaker 3 (01:49):
You're handing people tickets earlier this week, right, Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:52):
A lot of people are excited to go to that show.
Speaker 3 (01:54):
Yeah, if I have to run to Louisville or I
would I would go. I love it. I'd love to
hear him sing Shannon and then lunch Lady land Right.
Speaker 2 (02:02):
So is that what he does? I mean, does he
tell his story?
Speaker 3 (02:04):
No, I think he tells jokes. But then I do think,
you know, he pulls out the guitar. I watched his
special on Netflix, and he did jokes and then at
the end of the saying about Chris Farley. Did you
see that it's very sweet song about Chris, about Chris Farley.
Speaker 2 (02:19):
Do you think that him Sailor can sell out RUP?
Speaker 3 (02:22):
I don't think it's sold out, but I think he
sells a lot of tickets. I mean, I you know,
selling out RUP twenty thousand for a comedy show is
a lot. But I think he probably sold a lot
of tickets.
Speaker 4 (02:32):
Yeah, I would expect a good crowd. He's also got
a little bit of the nothing that he needed it.
But you got the happy Gilmore bump. He's back, yeah, back.
You know he really left news, but he's we saw
little he's made. I think I was talking with maybe
we did this on the air.
Speaker 3 (02:44):
He's worth six hundred and fifty million dollars that's a
lot of money for just a guy who did Lunch
Lady Land on Saturday Night Live and dresses like he's
worth thirty thousand dollars. See, but that I appreciate Chane
and I appreciate his fashion sense. He's kind of like me.
He makes some money still hoodies, hoodies. He he is
a fellow member of the Hoodie and Shorts club. And
(03:04):
not just any shorts. He'll wear jim shorts to today,
I wear shorter shorts. He's basketball shorts. Chan in that function.
That Isn't that the dream to get yourself a job
where you don't have to dress up?
Speaker 2 (03:14):
Yeah, And it seems like he lives well beneath his means.
At least he does in his wardrobe. He said, a
lot of money that way.
Speaker 3 (03:20):
Save. That's me too, Save a lot of money in
your wardrobe. Just uh, you just get your hoodies. Well,
if I'm nine two eight twenty two eighty seven, Ryan
is gone today, it's me and Drew. Billy's gonna come
join us. We had some miscommunication this morning, so he's
got to come from the studio to here, so he'll
join us. It'll be almost like an NFL cover zero
or it's the news right here.
Speaker 4 (03:39):
Yeah, we talked to each other there seven days a
week now, so what's new?
Speaker 3 (03:43):
What's what's another day? All right? So last night, uh
we did we did trivia. There's a lot of there's
a lot of stuff I could ask you, but I
I do like to ask a couple of the questions
for you all to see if you can get it.
Chann'll get them. All right? Well, I mean first was
gonna be a UK basketball questions. This is portway. This
can be harder than you think. Okay, all right, from
the Jamal Murray year. Okay, that's the year after thirty
(04:07):
eight to one, So Jamal Murray, Tyler Ewlis through the
team where the tournament got canceled by COVID. Okay, Tyrese
Maxi team. Yes, that is five UK basketball teams. This
is pre transfer portal era. Kentucky had eight players during
that time who played at Kentucky who then left and
(04:28):
went to another and played at a D one school.
Eight players from the Jamal Murray team through the team
that had their tournament canceled. Can you name the eight
players who played at Kentucky transfers then went and played
at another D one.
Speaker 4 (04:44):
School so quickly I can do. Johnny Jews, let.
Speaker 3 (04:48):
Me just go through Johnny Jews.
Speaker 5 (04:49):
Ag.
Speaker 3 (04:50):
Yes, that's one. Charles Matthews is two. Sasha khale Jones
that's three. Oh, I have more. Shandon Field free to
jump in. Yeah wow, Phil free to contribute to the
team if you would like.
Speaker 2 (05:04):
Trying to remember, that's three.
Speaker 3 (05:07):
That's Some of these are hard. One of them is
fairly easy. You should be able to get. But a
couple of you got to go deep in. Those the
only guys that left. I'm running low already. Who's on
the team with Matthews?
Speaker 2 (05:19):
What Dante Allen?
Speaker 3 (05:22):
Dante Allan's after that's the COVID. Yes, I don't have it.
Speaker 2 (05:28):
I don't know either.
Speaker 3 (05:29):
Collectively, almost every team got at least four.
Speaker 2 (05:32):
They probably had longer than thirty seconds.
Speaker 3 (05:37):
But that you are are experts. You can talk, all right,
Henry County, do you know one? Nobody got one? All right?
Wit as I tell you these, I'm disappointed no one
got Marcus Lee. Marcus Lee is a friend of the program,
and he went and played then Uh Jamarrow Baker.
Speaker 4 (05:54):
I should have gotten Jamorrow. I'm still frustrated they didn't
play him in the Auburn game.
Speaker 3 (05:58):
Quade Green forgotten cat Ye. Now these are the two arts. Well,
hold on was when did key On Brooks get here?
Key On Brooks? It was after you? Okay, carry on?
Tye Winyard? Wow, where did he even go with his bodyguard?
He went to like cal Poly or he was like
cal Poly, Irvine Santo. And then finally, and this is
(06:20):
one Shannon. Not one person in this restaurant got Not
one person got this, played at Kentucky, transferred and played
in another D one school. Not one person out of
the thirty three teams we had here got Brad Caliperry.
No one got Brad Caliperry.
Speaker 4 (06:42):
If I were sitting here with five minutes, I probably
would have gotten two more. I wouldn't have gotten Brad.
I wouldn't have gotten Tae Winyard. Those are some deep
cuts that never would have entered my brain. Okay, let
me do one.
Speaker 3 (06:51):
More sports one Okay. College basketball men's national championships. We
know UCLA has eleven, Tucky has eight. There are eight
teams that have either two or three national champions Now
we know obviously Duke Carolina, Kentucky us more who has
two or three national champions.
Speaker 4 (07:14):
Dude, North Carolina, Kansas, Kentucky.
Speaker 3 (07:18):
Get past that group. Florida, well done. Florida gets the first,
he gets the first one. There are eight of them.
Love one of them. That's exactly right. That's two. They
have three or two depending on how you look at it.
Michigan State has two. Now you're at three. Indiana has more.
Speaker 2 (07:38):
How about Villanova?
Speaker 3 (07:40):
Villanova Shannon is killing it here. You all now have
four of eight.
Speaker 2 (07:45):
And they're now running out.
Speaker 3 (07:46):
Now these next four are I will grant you hard.
You have to kind of go into the history books
a little bit to get these four. One of them
is not that far from here. You know, Henry County.
Speaker 2 (08:01):
Henry County did not win.
Speaker 3 (08:03):
Henry County is not is not adding a lot to
the group. But that's okay. Cincinnati that won a couple.
Uh n c State, Oklahoma State.
Speaker 2 (08:15):
Which is that goes way back to Michigan State.
Speaker 3 (08:17):
He did yes in San Francisco, Yeah city, you would
not have gotten San Francisco, Nty Cincinnati one. I think
back to back, didn't they with with Oscar Robertson. I
believe back in the day, I think they won back
to back. One of them I believe Shannon. They won
in Louisville. They won a national championship at Freedom Hall
(08:40):
uh in Louisville. So there you go. There are other
ones as well. Last one, this is a Kentucky related one.
What are the ten by median income richest counties in Kentucky?
Number one? Look at Henry County. You know you don't
like those Oldham County people. I understand that's close to
(09:00):
your neighbor. Oldham County is the richest county in the
state of Kentucky. Faye, Fayette is not in the top
ten really and well, and the reason being median income
is average. There are a lot of poor people in city.
Same reason. Jefferson County is also not in the top ten.
So you're looking for places where most of the county herbon.
Speaker 2 (09:19):
I got another guess, did you.
Speaker 3 (09:20):
Say Bourbon Bourbon is not wood Horse Country? Woodford is
Woodford is seventh.
Speaker 2 (09:26):
I feel like this has got to be in the
top ten. Shelby County.
Speaker 3 (09:29):
Shelby County is fifth. What did you say, Boone County
is third? Yeah? I need those Northern first, third, fifth,
and seventh. Campbell County is ninth. So you have gotten
all the odd numbers. You need two, six, four, eight,
and ten.
Speaker 2 (09:45):
I guess all guests. Jefferson County I.
Speaker 3 (09:49):
Already said Jefferson was not cities. Yeah, no, because now
Fayette was on the list last year it dropped off.
Jefferson's never been on the list. What else is up
there by Cincinnati? Is what you say? More of those left? Huh?
Kenton County is not excuse me, yes, it is Kenton
County's fourth. There we go, so we still don't have second, second, six, eighth,
and tenth. You'll have done a good job here. This
(10:11):
is a good set of guesses. You mighty have. Second.
I was gonna say Warren, Warren, No, Warren second. I'm
gonna have to give it up now so we don't
have dead air Spencer County. Okay, right up there next
to us, Shannon, you do.
Speaker 2 (10:26):
Where we're next to Bullet County?
Speaker 3 (10:27):
That's right, sixth place. Scotty about to come out of
my mouth, right, how do you not put Georgetown? There's
more money in Georgetown, more money and chicken fingers in
Georgetown than any other place in the world.
Speaker 4 (10:39):
I'll listed our surrounding counties and didn't say Scotty.
Speaker 3 (10:41):
You also didn't mention Jessamine County just right there? Eighth place? Boy,
how many rich people? All of our coaches except Mark Pope,
they all live there. And then tenth place, and I
was shocked by this Bullock County bullet. Can we talk
about drinking mountain dudes? And they must drink mountain dew
while sipping on Chardonnay in bullets? How about bullet County
(11:05):
bean tens Shannon skewing those numbers raising a little bit? Yeah,
Shannon took the average and screwed it up? Did you
all right? So? Anyway? That's Those were three of the
Triviuta questions last night. And you guys, had you come,
would not have done well as as a team.
Speaker 4 (11:23):
Will you make everyone else do it in thirty seconds
without being able to do Team.
Speaker 3 (11:26):
Stan right on top of them and make them give the.
Speaker 2 (11:28):
Answer pretty well?
Speaker 3 (11:30):
Yeah, you can't have dead air? Did you did exactly?
All right? Okay? So one of the things I want people,
if you get bored today to read. I feel like
I think I've gone four to five years without praising
the Harold Leader three times, and I'm now gonna do
it for the third time this week. They're on a heater.
They are on a heater. Mark's Story and John Hale
(11:51):
are on a heater, so they should get a big
round of applause. You know, we did the NIL lecture
series Monday night, Mark Story and two people from out
of town. The window for it was great, really enjoyed it.
And Mark's Story told me during the thing, hey, we
have some stuff coming out about in aile. We had
these long projects and I was like, oh, okay, Well,
(12:12):
one of the features came out today, and I highly
recommend if you're a subscriber of The Hair Leader, or
if you just like want to do their one dollar
for a month thing or whatever, you should read the
article that just came out. They basically did an idiot's God, Billy,
this is a signal you could come in here. I
didn't just stand up for my health. I don't just
(12:33):
stand up usually and walk around. There you go, speaking
of idiots, idiots. Wow. And I stood up, moved and
then he just walked away and went in the other direction.
Speaker 6 (12:49):
I thought you were making a passionate point.
Speaker 3 (12:51):
No, no, I was. I wasn't standing up to preach.
They did an article basically in IL for idiots, and
they explained what what it is, how it's working, what
is happening at UK, how much of our money is
going to each sport? Drew. I thought it was actually
really brilliantly done, and they had a couple facts that
I thought were interesting. Now this is the Harald leader
(13:12):
of saying sources tell them this. So this is not
confirmed by the school, but I don't think they would
write it unless they felt like it was right. They
say that we are spending twenty two million dollars on
our basketball program this year in players. For comparison's sake,
Cala Perry's last NIL group was four million mark popees
(13:41):
was last year ten million, and this year is twenty
two million. Now they expect that number to go down
next year for reasons that are complicated. This group this
year kind of got a crazy situation because they got
part rev share and part nil and it kind of exploded.
(14:02):
They think that number will go down. In the article,
it says that Kentucky might have the highest paid roster
in the country. Then, in talking about rev share, it
says that SEC schools, most of them are going seventy
five percent football, fifteen percent basketball, five women's basketball, five
(14:24):
everything else. They said at Kentucky it is sixty five
percent football, ten percent less than the other schools, twenty
five percent basketball ten percent more than the other schools,
and then women's in the other sports five each. I
think both of those sets of numbers are generally correct.
That twenty two million is higher than I've heard, but
(14:46):
I'm not going to say it's crazy. But what do
you think about the fact that the rev share is
ten percent more for basketball here? Do you like that?
And when you're judging Mark Stoops, is it worth considering
that he might have ten percent less of a salary
cap for lack of a better term than the other
SEC teams? Uh?
Speaker 4 (15:07):
I actually like that they're doing it here in Kentucky.
So you don't let basketball slip when other schools we
mentioned other schools are gona advantages where football don't need
as much and you can't lose your grip on being
the top program. And even though football is slipping a
little bit or not getting as much, that shouldn't be
that big of a gap that you're not competitive. That
should only be a couple of players.
Speaker 3 (15:26):
You're gonna be.
Speaker 4 (15:26):
At a little bit of a disadvantage and people should
know that. But you should still be able to fild
a pretty good team just because you're even though you're
ten percent fewer than your opponent.
Speaker 3 (15:35):
I agree with you.
Speaker 4 (15:36):
If it was thirty percent, okay, now, but that's only
gonna be a few guys, and you.
Speaker 3 (15:41):
Can make that up in innile, so they can make
that up with private in aisle stuff. But I did
just think it was interesting. That's the first time in
print by anyone, you know. Matt Orlanders said earlier this
year he thought Kentucky was spending around twenty million dollars.
I think we can now that's now who sources saying it.
(16:01):
I think we can kind of think Kentucky probably has
either the highest paid or second to maybe Saint John's
or Michigan highest paid roster in the country. Do you
think that should figure in to the expectations of the
team as we go into the year. If I'm nine
two eight oh twenty two eighty seven, text machine is
seven seven two seven seven four five two five four.
(16:23):
We'll take a break. We will let Billy talk now
that he's finally gotten seated here in just a minute.
This is KOSR. I hate to saw him more than anything, Shannon,
This one well, I mean, it's just this is the again,
you know, this the kind of music that I hate.
You can buy me click. I just I can't stand this.
Speaker 2 (16:42):
Se I think this is at least the notch above
like Rednecker than you or he can It's.
Speaker 3 (16:46):
Pretty by it's pretty because what is again? It's sort
of the whole theme of I don't want material things
you buy me. Who is it?
Speaker 2 (16:56):
Chris Jansen, Chris Jancy.
Speaker 3 (16:57):
I don't know who that is.
Speaker 4 (16:58):
We saw him for law at the convention. He performed this.
Speaker 3 (17:02):
He a Republican commitment. I believe republican. Yeah, he probably
wasn't at the Democrats.
Speaker 4 (17:07):
Cower betting, I would say it was the Republican If.
Speaker 3 (17:09):
That would that would have been surprising. Billy, thank you
for coming, Phil, Thanks for having me on. Do you
think you're gonna have since Ryan's out here, you're gonna
say like words, incorrectly inappropriate thing?
Speaker 6 (17:20):
Probably I'll have a Ryanism or two. But I have
my hoodie and shorts on, so I feel like I
fit right in.
Speaker 3 (17:25):
You do everybody? Uh, if you get a chance, it's happening,
and just say say a little prayer for Ryan. He's fine,
But this is a tougher uh day for him. One
person writes, Matt fair foul Jalen, my daughter and Billy's
favorite kid caller had a field trip to u of
L today. She wore a Kentucky sweatshirt. Is that fair foul?
Fair Hell?
Speaker 6 (17:46):
What's the question?
Speaker 3 (17:47):
Yeah? I mean like that's I think that's fan of
the day material, right, What else you're gonna wear? Yeah,
you're not gonna wear. I mean I love it. Now.
If it was a U of L person coming in here,
that would be wrong for a child. But to go
to u of L, I mean, we gotta get something
on him because we're gonna losing football.
Speaker 4 (18:01):
Here in a few weeks. Yeah, we met the kid
just a few weeks ago. Did the l's down when
the was it the mayor that wind.
Speaker 3 (18:06):
Talked to him?
Speaker 4 (18:07):
That's exactly I like these kids that are defending the
front lines in Louisville Forest.
Speaker 2 (18:10):
Uh.
Speaker 3 (18:11):
These folks are here from Kenton County, one of the
ten richest counties. You can see it in the look
at all that money you can't hide, but you got
you can't hide money over here. And these folks are
from Bath County, Billy, which is of course home of
the meat shower.
Speaker 6 (18:26):
I've heard that story once or twice.
Speaker 3 (18:28):
Yes, where they were the vultures all vomited meat all
over the town. So it's uh, I hate that. That's
all I know about it. Yeah, you have a lot
of homish people. That's only two things I know about
Bath County meat shower and amish. I'm gonna have to
learn some more facts so that the two pret good facts.
Name other county that had a meat shower. Billy Napier,
coach at Florida. Reports are that the boosters and the
(18:52):
ad had a meeting and they have already decided to fire,
so he is pre fired, but he has not been
announced to be fired. Would you want to be pre
fired but then have to keep coaching on this one?
Speaker 4 (19:07):
With BILLI Napier, I feel like he's been pre fired
for two years. He's been on the hot seat since
he's been there. I think he has and not like
kind of hot and he gets off of it. It's
just constantly hot underneath him. So I'm not surprised as
it's happening, I have surprised her. I'm just go ahead
and get.
Speaker 3 (19:20):
It over with it. It feels like it's kind of
rude to pre fire somebody, and the report said that
there's talk that they might just wait till after Saturday
and then fire him Sunday. Clearly they didn't want that out.
Speaker 6 (19:33):
No, Yeah, that's awkward. That's like when the coach is
leaving and he doesn't get to tell the players first
and they all find out online. I mean, how do
you look people in the eye after reports come out
after pre firing.
Speaker 3 (19:43):
Yeah, well, you know the ad is Scott Strickland. But
the reason this is partially important is you know, Arkansas
is looking for a coach, now, Florida is looking for
a coach. There's a decent chance Auburn is very likely
going to be looking for a coach. And there are
people who think South Carolina I might be looking for
a coach. I think that would be surprising. But you
get all these teams looking for coaches. You know, I
(20:05):
have to say, Drew, it's not the most ideal time
if we decide to make a change, to be going
up against Penn State, Virginia Tech, Florida, Arkansas, Auboro. I mean,
that's a lot of programs that it's not great for
us to be competing with for.
Speaker 4 (20:20):
A coach, and it's just gonna keep going. As a
coach leaves opens another door. It's gonna be a big
carousel this year. It's nothing the best time for Kentucky
to go shopping because there's gonna be teams that have
to get their fifth or sixth option this offseason. Yes,
and I'm worried Kentucky might be in that mix.
Speaker 3 (20:37):
My hope is that if we have to do it,
because we have individual connections to John Sumraw, to Will
Stein at Oregon, to Brian Hartline at Ohio State, my
hope would be that that helps you get one of them.
I think though, for anyone out there that thinks, well,
Kentucky's gonna go get a big name, I mean, Billy,
(20:59):
we will get a big name over these schools. I mean,
if Florida wants a big name, they'll get it more
than we will, right right.
Speaker 6 (21:05):
But if you're waiting for the perfect time, then you
may be waiting for a while, and he's never going
to be perfect. You mentioned Shane Beemer. I think people
have linked him to the Virginia Tech job, obviously with
the Beamer in the past, but I mean, regardless, it's
it kind of comes down to that wind total for me.
You know, if they get to five, they probably retain them.
If it's anything less, I think it's less, or he's gone.
Speaker 3 (21:25):
Five would be the worst. Who's up next.
Speaker 2 (21:27):
Let's go to Clay Clay.
Speaker 3 (21:28):
Go ahead, Clay Clay. Yes, of course, I can go ahead.
Speaker 5 (21:41):
I just wanted to talk a little bit.
Speaker 3 (21:44):
Now I can't hear the Florida. Don't have me onda, Okay.
So here's the thing. Here's the thing, and this is
again I probably have to remind people about this once
a month. Don't have me on bluetooth. Don't have me
on speaker, because if you have me on bluetooth, which
is that you have, it's going to go in and
out because your Bluetooth doesn't work. Now do we have
it on regular phone?
Speaker 5 (22:07):
Yes, sir?
Speaker 3 (22:07):
All right, now go ahead, All right.
Speaker 5 (22:10):
I was gonna say, I think a lot of I
could see Texas hopping in to this coaching if Steve
Sarkisian doesn't deliver the hardware. And I think everyone's just
trying to get in on Signetti. I mean, I think
that's the big thing. Everyone thinks they have a shot
with him. But the main reason I caused was y'all
were talking about Yellovich the other day. I think he
could be the wild card for this team because there's
(22:33):
no more perfect player to play that hybrid five. Like
everyone's response does last year with Amari was to play
drop coverage because they knew he couldn't shoot that outside shot.
You put a guy like Yellow out there that can,
maybe it might take him time to respond to the
American game.
Speaker 3 (22:51):
And appreciate the call. I agree, except Kenny guard anybody
because right now he can't guard one person on the floor.
So to see if he gets better, we'll be right back. TJ.
Speaker 2 (23:02):
Smith, personal injury attorney, called TJ.
Speaker 6 (23:05):
He'll make them pay.
Speaker 3 (23:06):
Now.
Speaker 2 (23:06):
More of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage. Here's
Matt Jones.
Speaker 3 (23:11):
I mean, Shannon, you know, like people all right, this
album was huge when we were in high school. Yeah,
everyone had this out.
Speaker 2 (23:19):
And it's so stupid.
Speaker 3 (23:20):
It's so stupid people. I mean, he's singing about lunch
and like Chris Farley. But you can see Chris Farley
dancing around during this video.
Speaker 2 (23:30):
But Chris Farley made it for me. I mean Chris Farley.
Speaker 3 (23:34):
It's but did everyone had this little CD or tape
right when you were in college, when you're in high school.
Oh yeah, I would listened to I listened to it
to almost fell apart.
Speaker 2 (23:43):
I didn't have it.
Speaker 3 (23:44):
I mean, it's crazy to think about listening to a
comedy like tape and CD, but but we did.
Speaker 4 (23:51):
I had a couple of them. Yeah, Chris, he was
like a little kid, like a baby picture on the cover.
Speaker 3 (23:56):
He had like two that were huge, like some of
them had like prank calls. They were ridiculous. Yeah.
Speaker 6 (24:00):
I missed the CDs, but you know, a little younger
than you. I mean I watched Big Daddy a lot.
Happy Gilmour was very influential.
Speaker 3 (24:07):
So he's was influential.
Speaker 6 (24:09):
Oh yeah, to like your career path to the golf game. Yeah,
no doubt.
Speaker 3 (24:12):
Billy was very It's very influential, uh to him. I'm
nine twenty two eighty s. We were talking during the break, Drew,
we might get three coaches fired or get our coach fired.
Speaker 4 (24:23):
Yeah, a coach involved in these next four games is
getting fired.
Speaker 3 (24:27):
I mean we have three games where if we beat them,
that coach is definitely getting fired. Steve Sarkisian, Billy Napier,
and Hugh Freeze we win, they get fired. If we
win none of the games and our own got fired,
then our own guy may get fired. It's kind of
it's kind of interesting how that goes.
Speaker 4 (24:46):
I think it would be night night for all the
ones you mentioned. So even though Sark still has them
mathematically in the playoff, if he were losing legs in
to this weekend, I think they they pulled the plug
on him too.
Speaker 6 (24:56):
And how do you remember arch Manning if he loses
to Kentucky.
Speaker 3 (24:58):
No, if arch Manning lose, this is to Kentucky. This
is a bust of a year. I mean, if we
were to win Saturday, expect on Monday. On first take,
they're talking about, well, Arch meetings a bus. He just
lost to Kentucky, which isn't really complimenting us. Texas fans
are getting into town. We had some here like right
for Tribua, Like, I mean, we are three days from
(25:19):
the game and there are already Texas fans landing here.
Speaker 4 (25:23):
Well, I drive into in downtown every morning to come here,
and you can just see them walking the sidewalks, getting
their coffees, coming out of the hotels. They're here in
the bourbon, the keen look. They're in they're all coming.
You were saying you're very unconfident for this game Saturday,
said you thought we might get shut out. I actually
don't think Texas's offense is gonna beat us up too bad,
(25:44):
but their defense is nasty. They give up ten points
a game. I mean, Oklahoma has a Heisman candidate and
a good offense, and what they score last week against Texas,
they fully shut them out. So, as we've said many times,
it's been two years since we've scored more than two
touchdowns in a game, and now we're facing one of
the best defenses in the country.
Speaker 3 (26:01):
Eight five nine two eight oh twenty two eighty seven Indiana.
Greg Doyle, you remember our good friend Greg Doyle. He's
had a rough couple of years in the national spotlight
with some I love Greg, but it seems like he
does something, makes bad decisions, make Caitly the Caitlin Clark
thing was bad, and then there were there have been others.
(26:22):
He just hasn't He hasn't been clicking. But I got
to see when Kentucky played Indiana or excuse me, Tennessee
up in Indianapolis last year at sweet sixteen. But he
did an article yesterday that said Kurt Signetti, the Indiana
football coach, Why would he go to Penn State? He's
already at quote an elite football school. Yeah, I saw that.
Speaker 4 (26:41):
I'm gonna do the love you both with Greg also,
But that is that was crazy? You're telling me if Florida,
Penn State, heck, maybe Texas, all the jobs that are
gonna be open. If they called him and made him
a priority, which he would be very high on everyone's list,
he's gonna say, no, I'm good in Bloomington.
Speaker 3 (26:57):
What's the definition of elite football school? If Indiana gets in? Seriously,
are we an elite football it's gonna be good for
two years? Yeah? One and a half, yeah, one and
a half years. They still they still don't have anybody
that goes their games. I mean, I think they sold
out this year was first. They didn't even sell out
last year. The games their stadium is awful, Like, yeah,
(27:19):
is that all it takes to be an elite football schools?
Have one good year?
Speaker 6 (27:22):
No, it doesn't, especially when you're running away from all
the tough non conference opponents on your schedule. They can't
even play Louisville and finish their series because they're afraid
they're gonna look.
Speaker 3 (27:29):
A They did cancel their Louisville series, although Shannon, we
have to be careful making fun of that because one
day we maybe cancel Louisville next year. That could end
up happening soon. So I do think we have to
be careful about that. Yeah, I worry about that one.
Speaker 4 (27:42):
But Indiana enjoy Seguay is there because his phone is
gonna be ringing a lot this offseason.
Speaker 3 (27:46):
Do you do you think that? Do you think the
Indiana situation is partially why people are even more frustrated
with Stoops? Like I've made the view that when Jeff
Brown went to Louisville and then took vents, that put
pressure on Stoops. But I think there is an argument
(28:08):
that Indiana winning is like, well, if they can do
it in Indiana, then why can't you do it?
Speaker 4 (28:13):
Indiana and Vandy at the same time, same year, same seasons,
completely just skyrocketed up, and you went the other direction
years ago, Missouri, and you're making excuses while it's like,
well they just did. They're doing it right in front
of our eyes, and they're even farther behind than we
are at the where they started.
Speaker 3 (28:31):
I mean, yes, Indiana, Missouri, and Vandy have had ten
win seasons in the last couple of years. Does the
excuses part make you more upset about it?
Speaker 4 (28:42):
Yes, it's not even just that other schools are good.
It's that we're saying we have enough money. But then
it's the things that are hurting us are like timeouts.
Those don't cost any money. That's just you not knowing
how to use your time out.
Speaker 3 (28:53):
Stuff like that. That has nothing to do with ponying up.
Speaker 4 (28:56):
If you get to a level when it's just crisp,
everything's smooth, but you can't down Georgia Alabama, then let's
talk about money. But right now, let's let's maybe get
in the endzone a couple of times against just any team.
Speaker 6 (29:07):
And it doesn't even have to be ten or eleven wins.
I mean Mississippi State was a cellar dweller and they're
even competent this year, so I mean sellar dweller.
Speaker 3 (29:14):
Yeah, like that. I was gonna add them to it.
Speaker 4 (29:16):
They stunk last year and they're what four and two
and their losses are the top fifteen.
Speaker 3 (29:20):
We want to read you something, Billy. One person writes, Matt,
I want to be honest with you. My wife is
very anti billy. I used to be anti billy, but
thanks to It's the News and Cover zero, I've become
more pro billy. Do you think the KSR audience as
a whole is pro or anti billy?
Speaker 6 (29:41):
Well, considering every time I join you on we get
this comment.
Speaker 3 (29:45):
Okay, look at all these pro billities.
Speaker 2 (29:48):
Here, they're in front of you.
Speaker 6 (29:51):
It's easier to say.
Speaker 3 (29:53):
You got a whole section of pro billies here.
Speaker 6 (29:56):
Well, the appre Shiow made a thousand episodes, so we
must be doing something.
Speaker 3 (29:58):
First of all, congratulations to the pre show had their
thousand thank you episode today. That's great. I this is
just my opinion. I think you have grown more likable
as the years have gone. No, No, you were so
unlikable when you got that's take this as a compliment
(30:19):
because I mean it. I've said this to you in
some form in private. I think you have. You have
always been likable to me, but I think your on
air persona has become more likable over the last few years.
I think you still have the moments where you're you
can be rough around the edges, but I think you
have become more I mean I I do.
Speaker 6 (30:39):
I mean that well, thank you. Was I pretty unlikable
those first couple of years, Yeah.
Speaker 3 (30:42):
I do. I think that that, But that's why I
brought you. That's why I brought you on is I
thought we needed.
Speaker 2 (30:48):
Sort of rehabilitation make us look more likable.
Speaker 3 (30:53):
We needed to have a foil, We needed to have
somebody that the audience would get mad at sometimes. But
I think I think you've actually, slowly over time kind
of one's won some of the audience.
Speaker 6 (31:04):
Oh, I've had some setbacks. The children thing didn't help,
and then Peter the dog recently, and I don't think.
Speaker 3 (31:09):
That was your biggest setback was Heather. Yes, I was
going to bring that was your biggest And I think
the problem is you still don't think that's the same.
Speaker 6 (31:18):
I'm gonna keep my mouth shut on that.
Speaker 3 (31:20):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (31:20):
I think what hurts you is these don't happen often,
but when they do, when people are like, hey, Billy,
we don't agree with that, you sometimes double down, which
then just angers them even more.
Speaker 3 (31:28):
I think on another thing, your confidence level. You have
strong confidence, and I think sometimes people are like that
scares people.
Speaker 6 (31:39):
Well, I think I got a little signetti in me.
I mean, google me. You'll find out all you need
to know. What are they going to google? What?
Speaker 3 (31:46):
Fun? Actually?
Speaker 6 (31:48):
Yeah, you get a little bogies with Billy. I don't know.
I haven't googled myself in a while.
Speaker 3 (31:52):
So I'm gonna google him right now. Yeah, I don't
know that googling you is the right thing to do.
What's next?
Speaker 2 (31:56):
Shit, let's go to Dennis google me.
Speaker 3 (31:59):
I don't think you.
Speaker 4 (32:00):
First thing comes up as a picture of him of
the STEMS Championship champion.
Speaker 3 (32:05):
Okay, go ahead, either and what's up?
Speaker 5 (32:12):
How can you hold or how can we hold? Mark Stoops?
Our football program is giving ten percent less than any
other SEC school out there. Yes, so, yeah, Vanderbilt should
be winning more football games than Kentucky.
Speaker 3 (32:26):
Okay, let me ask you a question. Much less? Okay,
so let's do the math. How much less money? Let's
just assume that ten percent number is correct. How much
less money is that than the other teams are getting?
Speaker 5 (32:40):
I'm not for sure.
Speaker 3 (32:42):
It's twenty two million dollars or twenty point five million dollars?
Is the is the amount of rep share two million?
It's two million dollars. Now, let me just assume that
they're not making that up from inn ale. I think
they are, probably, but let's just say they're not. Do
you do you think two million dollars is what causes
the coaching mistakes at the end of the first half.
(33:05):
It's two million dollars why we can't get a quarterback
that develops at all. It's two million dollars why we
make bone headed decisions. It's two million dollars why we
have players going to the concession stand during games. I mean,
do you really think that is what causes those problems?
Speaker 5 (33:24):
No? But if I'm a coach in a recruiting battle
for another high school football player, Look, Kentucky won't even
spend as much on football as the rest SEC does.
Speaker 3 (33:33):
Okay, I mean, and.
Speaker 5 (33:34):
You talk about making money up, Kentucky basketball should be
making the money up, not the Kentucky football program. They're
the ones that can get the donations.
Speaker 3 (33:42):
So you would suggest that you would rather Kentucky basketball
have less money to give it?
Speaker 5 (33:48):
No, oh yeah, right, because the rest SEC is paying.
What if you're going to compete with the big dollars,
you've got to give what everybody else in SEC does.
SEC is a fot ball proference. If you want to
make the if you want to make the money up.
Make it up on the other end with the basketball
now try to I'll put your put a stranglehold on
(34:11):
your football program.
Speaker 3 (34:12):
All right, Well, I appreciate the call. I would argue
the two million dollars, while important, is not the reason
we haven't won a home SEC game in two and
a half years. But there are there. Do you find
any validity to that argument? A little?
Speaker 4 (34:26):
I mean, you don't want to be behind the eight
ball and recruiting and building a team. But I think
people are skipping over the fact that our basketball team
could be severely behind. If Duke and the Villanova's and
the teams that don't have an SEC football team want
to just go crazy. I mean, at the end of
the day, we got to protect a rapparenover there first.
Speaker 3 (34:45):
I mean, ultimately, I hate that the current system requires
you to decide. But let's be real. Let's say we
spend the exact same amount of money as George in Alabama.
Do you think we're gonna beat George in Alabama? Not
every year?
Speaker 6 (35:02):
I mean you'll have some parody, guys, We'll.
Speaker 3 (35:04):
Say the vast majority of years. No. So if we
spend the exact same amount of money as the rest
of the SEC to come in twelfth instead of fifteenth.
I'd rather have our basketball team compete for titles. That's me,
But I don't agree with the premise. I don't agree
with the fact that the two million dollars, even if
(35:26):
that's true, is why we're not good. We're not good
because we have lost the way in discipline, in recruiting
and focus. That's why it is. We're not losing to
Georgia on a last second play because they have a
receiver who beats our dB and catches it at the buzzer.
We're not in these games. We didn't lose to South
(35:46):
Carolina by thirty because they of two million dollars.
Speaker 4 (35:51):
We've had two ABC games. Both went to halftime laughing
at Kentucky. They went to the studio and they were
making jokes. That wasn't because we're two million behind. That's
because we're dysfunctional totally. To Drew's point, it's timeouts. It's
management that can be fixed, not just the rush.
Speaker 3 (36:05):
And all this can change. Crew was found Clayton and
Creum was founded on a simple idea. All leather goods
should last a lifetime. They make everything from bags, belts, wallets,
and more. And the best part, they're doing it right
here in Kentucky. You can check them out at Claytonancroom
dot com, at crum e dot com, or visit their
flagship store on Shelby Street and Louisville. It's Clayton and
(36:25):
Kreum crum me dot com. It is quality leather goods
built to last at Clayton and Kroom. We'll take a
break of be right back here at Chaos Bars, Kentucky
Sports Radio. Welcome back. It is Kentucky Sports Radio here
at Chaos. Margaret got some folks here from Richmond that
we just said hello to. Uh So, we've got Richmond,
Henry County, we got Kenton County, and then we've got
(36:47):
Bath County. All all here today and the other folks.
You can come in for lunch. A couple of things.
This is DiAngelo. He passed away at the age of
fifty one. Legendary song here Shannon from our era Brown Sugar.
Speaker 2 (37:00):
You know that one Angelo guy was this on your
mixtape line like.
Speaker 3 (37:05):
This song a lot. Then he had a song, didn't
have a song where he was like naked. Do you
remember that.
Speaker 4 (37:11):
Music video untitled how does it feel I had all
the DiAngelo albums.
Speaker 3 (37:18):
Yeah, that one. That one was was it was kind
of crazy to see on MTV because he was just
like basically almost completely naked on your television, like.
Speaker 4 (37:27):
At like three o'clock in the afternoon.
Speaker 3 (37:28):
Yeah. I remember my grandmother. Rest in peace to my
lovely granny Helen. She walked in one time when that
video was on and she goes, what is this trash
you are watching on television? And I said, uh, I
didn't mean to just watching tr because I think she
may have also been like worried. I was like gay
watching it too, because he was man on television.
Speaker 4 (37:52):
For everyone that doesn't know what we're talking about, it's
a very seductive video.
Speaker 3 (37:57):
I would say this, and they played it. You're right
at three o'clock in the afternoon on MTV and now
Backstreet Boys. It was just one of the one strange.
I also want to give a shout out and a
salute and a rest in peace to Dickie Martin. Dickie
Martin's one of the legendary radio voices in the state
of Kentucky. He called Ashland Tom Kat basketball games for
(38:20):
fifty years. Think about or excuse me forty five years. No,
I'm right, fifty years started in nineteen seventy five to
twenty twenty five. Fifty years in Kasaw State championships. Same
at Sweet sixteen. Every year passed away. When you're talking
about media in Kentucky that had an impact, especially on
the local level, Dicky Martin is at the top of
(38:43):
that list. So prayers to his family. A true Kentucky
media legend, Dickie Martin. And then finally we put up
a Twitter poll. Is Billy likable? Okay? Yeah, so there
are at this moment, looks like there's two hundred and
seventy five votes. Is Billy likable? Only been six minutes
(39:06):
of voting right now it stands fifty five yes, forty
five No. At this point you are the majority likable.
Speaker 6 (39:14):
Well, there's already some really kind comments on the poll
as well. I appreciate that, but I just retweeted. So
let my audience get on there.
Speaker 3 (39:20):
Oh you think of an audience different than mine, Yeah,
let them.
Speaker 6 (39:23):
Let my fan base get on there.
Speaker 3 (39:25):
We'll bump those numbers up. I like this, Billy. You
think there's a significant amount of people that follow you
that don't follow us.
Speaker 6 (39:34):
Yeah, I'd like to think. So, I mean, I am
more than just chaos.
Speaker 3 (39:38):
Oh yeah, you're more than ks.
Speaker 6 (39:40):
Are more than just ks are?
Speaker 3 (39:41):
Well, who are these people?
Speaker 6 (39:43):
That's a good question, Josh short Well John Shortan follows
me the western Kentucky fan base. I keep it real
on the tops, which, by the way, look terrible the
other night against SYU.
Speaker 3 (39:52):
You think you have a big, significant Western family.
Speaker 6 (39:54):
I wouldn't say big, but you know we've got some fans.
There's no doubt.
Speaker 3 (39:57):
Okay, one person rights, uh, Matt same Billy is not
likable is one of the most ironic things ever. The
least likable person on the show, by far is mapped.
Speaker 6 (40:07):
Oh give yourself some credit. Shannon's definitely the most least like.
Speaker 3 (40:10):
I don't care.
Speaker 2 (40:11):
That's fine. I don't care if you like me or not.
I never asked you to like me, so I don't
really care if you like me or not.
Speaker 6 (40:18):
Yeah, I got stuck with you.
Speaker 3 (40:19):
Sh Yeah. I'm sure there are people that don't think
I'm like well, I don't know why you would listen
to a show that I host if you did not
like me. That would seem like to just be you'd
just be like why you just hate on you. You're
just hating yourself and doing that.
Speaker 6 (40:34):
You hate listen to Tennessee post game shows.
Speaker 3 (40:36):
Right, No, no, no, no, not regularly. I just want to
listen to them be sad. I think that's a little
bit different. So Darius Smith Drew retired from the NFL. Uh.
He was Mark Stoop's first big guy that he brought
into Kentucky. Played in the NFL for many years, was
a pro bowler I think twice three times, three times.
He great Kentucky player. Kind of an underrated Kentucky player
(40:59):
because he played on a teams. But how about Zadaria's
great career Love big Z.
Speaker 4 (41:04):
I remember when Tubes first signed him, he was out
of what was that East Mississippi Community College.
Speaker 3 (41:10):
He was out of the school that was the Yeah,
so we're excited to have him.
Speaker 4 (41:14):
Then he panned out, had two great years with him
here and been keeping up with him as an NFL careers.
I know he's been on four or five different teams
than kind of a surprise mid year retirement.
Speaker 3 (41:22):
But Love big Z, the original big Z, the original
Big Z. And then Jamal Mashburn has been hired by
T and T Sports. He is going to do the
studio show for their college basketball games the studio and
they have Big twelve and Big East games. The studio
show is going to be Jamal Mashburn, Jalen Rose, and
Bruce Pearl. I actually think that'll be a pretty good show, Billy. Yeah.
(41:47):
I mean Jalen Rose and Bruce Pearl have been great
TV guys over the years. Then you throw in Jamal
Mashburn and.
Speaker 4 (41:54):
You left off friend of the program Adam left Gos hosting.
I won't miss an episode.
Speaker 3 (41:59):
I actually think that there's a chance to be really good,
don't you. I mean, Bruce Pearl, for all his annoyance,
is a very good television personality. Jalen Rose has been
good and now Jamal So we finally get a cat
on these on this cover.
Speaker 6 (42:11):
Goat does a good job too.
Speaker 3 (42:12):
Yeah. So they got Weber, they got a big crew.
I think that's a great crew. I wish our games
were occasionally on there, but they won't be. We'll take
a break, come back. I renumber two. It's KSR
