Is that good?
Speaker 4 (01:06):
Sounds good to me?
Speaker 3 (01:07):
All right, Shendon is out on vacation. I'm gonna go
ahead and warn you. I'm like in a decent amount
of pain. The back, Uh still bothering you. Yeah, the
back kind of blew on Friday during the fit. You know,
I had a little bit of back pain before the remote,
and then I did the remote, and then you know,
(01:28):
I had already planned to go to Queenland all day.
Speaker 2 (01:30):
And being on my feet all day.
Speaker 3 (01:31):
Yep, when I got home there it was an all
weekend I've been.
Speaker 5 (01:35):
Uh.
Speaker 3 (01:36):
Mario was in here last night mocking me for looking
at his exact words, where you look like an old granny,
which I think is mean to the grands. But I
am like, it's this isn't as bad as when I
went to the Preakness that one time, and I didn't,
but it's probably second to that, and it sticks.
Speaker 5 (01:53):
And on.
Speaker 6 (01:54):
You came in walking to the bar Saturday to the
pregame show, you were walking all kind.
Speaker 3 (01:57):
Of stiff, stiff, And today's like that too. Today's better
than it's been. But if I I will just warn
the call if I'm grumpy, just know I've been laying
down all weekend trying to find a comfortable spot to sit.
But it did allow me, Drew to watch a lot
of football the last couple of days. I got myself
up to go to the bar, but otherwise have been
(02:19):
kind of infirmed.
Speaker 4 (02:21):
Did you watch football that you enjoyed or.
Speaker 3 (02:25):
That's a pretty tough weekend the NFL yes day is terrible.
And then of course we're gonna talk about the Kentucky game,
so it is kind of the best of time's worst
of times.
Speaker 2 (02:34):
Friday night.
Speaker 3 (02:37):
Has to get you excited. If you're a Kentucky fan,
you have to come away from Friday Night.
Speaker 2 (02:42):
Going who wants some absolutely right?
Speaker 3 (02:46):
I mean I could barely move and I was like
ready to go outside and go, all right, want a piece?
And like the people who weren't even watching basketball were like,
what's he talking?
Speaker 4 (02:57):
I was the same way. I mean, I've kind of
become robot as a fan of this job because I
just go these games. They kind of run together. I
woke up Saturday morning just smiling me to the moment
I woke up. I was so happy from watching that
basketball team the night before.
Speaker 3 (03:10):
I watched it almost looking for weaknesses because my natural
inclination was to I wanted to go on the postgame
show and go, all right, everybody just calm down.
Speaker 2 (03:20):
But then I couldn't. I couldn't.
Speaker 3 (03:22):
I didn't really know what to me. I guess you
could say, Okay, well we're not nine for twenty nine
from three. I mean, I guess, but like, I don't know, man,
I was really excited. And then take the opposite of that,
and then that was the football huh where.
Speaker 2 (03:40):
I don't know.
Speaker 3 (03:41):
I mean, it could have been worse. We could have
scored six points, but it's bad. So here's what I'm
gonna do. I think, first hour, I'm gonna talk football,
and then Josh Hopkins is coming in here at eleven,
and I think part of the reason he wants to
come in is he's so excited about basketball. So I
feel like we do the football thing. And then second hour,
(04:04):
we're just gleeful. We good with that, very good with that.
Speaker 4 (04:08):
We don't want to bring our guests into a bad
discussion about football.
Speaker 3 (04:11):
He to be, he wants to be excited, so let's
do this. So let's do this.
Speaker 6 (04:19):
Football.
Speaker 3 (04:21):
This is not Joker van Dy because we scored what
do we end up scoring?
Speaker 6 (04:27):
Thirty four point?
Speaker 3 (04:28):
Thirty four points? And there was some hope with Cutter
and some of the young receivers. Yeah, but it felt
like Tennessee could have scored ninety points.
Speaker 2 (04:39):
Is that fair?
Speaker 6 (04:41):
They could have scored every time they were on the field,
like they punted one time, which kind of blows my mind.
But yeah, they could have run up to the scoreboard
more than fifty six points.
Speaker 4 (04:48):
Even at the end they surrendered and slid and they
could have They could have run it up if they
wanted to.
Speaker 2 (04:53):
Yeah, yeah they could.
Speaker 4 (04:54):
Do you have some andy was on the table?
Speaker 2 (04:56):
Oh, there was a.
Speaker 3 (04:57):
Lot of the game when we kept scoring. I was like,
do you want them to score seventy? They were on pace.
There's a face like I was Mark, going, okay, let's
run up the middle a little bit. Do you want
them to score seventy?
Speaker 2 (05:08):
Uh? It was awful.
Speaker 6 (05:10):
It was awful.
Speaker 3 (05:11):
But I think more important than the specifics of the
game was kind of how it played out specifically. And
part of this was because it was raining, and part
of this was because it was at night. But the
fourth quarter was empty. Yeah, you were there? How empty?
Are we talking?
Speaker 4 (05:27):
Very empty? Actually, someone sent me a good picture yesterday.
It's just unbelievable how the only people there are wearing orange.
I mean, you might find a couple of Kentucky fans
sit it out, but it just became their stadium for
the fourth quarter.
Speaker 3 (05:41):
It was bleachers and orange. And you can't hide that. Nope,
I mean you can't hide that. The players feel that,
the coaches feel that. I mean, to whatever extent there
was left any Okay, who's with us?
Speaker 2 (05:57):
Like it's over at that point?
Speaker 3 (06:00):
At that point, which yeah, I mean, that's an amazing
picture that's essentially show that to the camera.
Speaker 2 (06:06):
That's essentially all orange and.
Speaker 6 (06:08):
Going in the fourth quarter, a lot of it emptied out.
So you've got a lot of football you're playing in
pretty much in the stadium.
Speaker 3 (06:15):
So then, of course online yesterday came the rumors that
a change was going to be made. This is what
I'm gonna say to people, we went through this with
the cal thing. They're only like.
Speaker 2 (06:27):
Six people you should be listening to.
Speaker 3 (06:29):
I'm just gonna say, like, no offense to people online,
Like if there's like six people that will know, and
I'm not gonna sit here and say who they are,
but you can guess. Yeah, well, I mean I will
say who they are. You can listen to people from KSR,
especially the people that cover football, or the folks on
the show. Listen to Justin Rowland. You can listen to
(06:53):
Larry vaud if his attentions focused in the right place.
You can listen to John Hale. John Hale, although he
probably because of his role, won't say a lot. He
wouldn't be business ye drum Jeff Drummond for sure. And
you know, here's what's interesting about the anonymous sources. The
(07:14):
anonymous sources that know are usually people that don't have
much of a following, right, So I've learned on the
text machine who's right is always like random numbers, and
I can tell whether they're right kind of about how
they worded, you know. So, But the more confident people
(07:35):
are online, they're probably not. So there was this like, oh,
it could happen right now, it did not. Here's where
we are for the future. I know this for there's
rarely I say certainty. I'll say some certainty. I'd say
we're now at eighty five to ninety percent chance we'll
have a new coach next year.
Speaker 2 (07:55):
You asked me.
Speaker 3 (07:56):
That two weeks ago before the Texas game, that number
would have been like fifty fifty five.
Speaker 2 (08:03):
It's eighty five percent. The only way it.
Speaker 3 (08:07):
Could be different is if, in my opinion, is if
they were to win three game, like if they were
to go six and six, which would mean beating Auburn,
Florida and then either Vandy or Louisville. Right, does anyone
on this show disagree with that?
Speaker 4 (08:24):
No?
Speaker 3 (08:25):
Do you now think five and seven also means a change,
because I do.
Speaker 4 (08:29):
I do.
Speaker 6 (08:29):
I guess I'd have to see who they beat to
get those five wins.
Speaker 4 (08:31):
I don't think the games left on the schedule that
impressive outside of Andy.
Speaker 3 (08:34):
Yeah, see, I think I think there was a time
five and seven would have made it close. I don't
think it does anymore. Auburn doesn't have a coach, or mean,
Florida doesn't have a coach.
Speaker 4 (08:43):
Auburn just got Auburn's when.
Speaker 3 (08:45):
Barely got a coach. I mean Vandy and Louisville, you
get one of those. That'd be nice, but I don't
think it changes anything unless you beat Auburn and Florida.
So I think there's a decent chance we come I
do the postgame show Saturday night, and we know there
will be a change. I think it's unlikely that there's
(09:07):
a change made here in the middle of the year,
like but for the first time, I don't think it's impossible.
I think if they lost to Auburn and Florida and
one of those was embarrassing.
Speaker 6 (09:21):
It could happen.
Speaker 2 (09:22):
It could happen. I think it's unlikely.
Speaker 3 (09:25):
It's not really Mitch's style, no, but I don't know
that he wants an empty stadium for that Tennessee Tech game.
I think that Tennessee Tech Game has a chance to
be really embarrassing to the program in a lot of ways,
and they know that. So I think what happens with
Auburn Florida matters. But here's what I posted something last
(09:50):
night on the KSR plus, and people got I think
they took it sort of the wrong way. Our administration's
tone deaf. I think the administration has said, let's wait
a week and let's see what happens at Aliburn. Not
that like Auburn could save his job, but Auburn could
be the final nail.
Speaker 2 (10:07):
Run. That's how I look at it.
Speaker 6 (10:08):
Do you agree, Yeah, they go on the road, they
get embarrassed on play well, I think that would maybe
be the final nail on the car.
Speaker 3 (10:13):
And at which point then I think there would be
completely open to having the discussion of all right, how
do we end this and starting to have that discussion
with stoops as people.
Speaker 4 (10:23):
And depending what happens this week and you you could
still be a favorite against Florida home because they're at
a bad spot too. Mayk they played Georgia. I think
it's this coming Saturday regardless if you don't win that
one that I mean, if you even get to that point,
depending what happens this weekend, I just don't think that
when that's a win, you should have like that's not
something that could save you or change the circumstances. So
that's almost a throwaway game for me. It can only
(10:45):
make it worse for you if you lose it.
Speaker 3 (10:46):
And the reason it's not a like well it's out
right now is there's still I think the people believe
around the program there's still a way to win six games. Now,
we can all think that's ridiculous, but when you're in
that line locker room and you're playing. You can't think
it's over. No, you still got five games to play.
And I think they look at it and say, is
(11:07):
it insane that we could beat Auburn, Florida and one
of Vandy and Louisville.
Speaker 2 (11:13):
Well, I mean, I guess it's not insane, right, It's.
Speaker 6 (11:17):
Got a small percentage chance you could pull that off.
Speaker 2 (11:20):
I guess.
Speaker 4 (11:20):
Well, my season prediction, game by game, we're still right
on it, and I had them winning out to make
a Bowl. So that's actually what I thought what happened
before the year began, and now the opportunity is right
in front of them. Even though I do not have
the optimism in that run.
Speaker 2 (11:32):
I don't think it's gonna happen.
Speaker 3 (11:33):
But I also think you have to, Like you can't
just look at your team and be like, this isn't
gonna happen. So when we come in Saturday night, you
could hear me on the postgame show kind of switch
the gear to there's gonna be a change. Well, here's
what I think has changed. Nobody around UK football believes
this can continue at this pace.
Speaker 6 (11:54):
Even the head coach is his word.
Speaker 2 (11:56):
I don't think the head coach thinks it anymore.
Speaker 6 (11:58):
I agree with a couple of things he said to
the last couple, especially after the game Saturday night.
Speaker 3 (12:02):
So a lot of our conversation over the year has been,
well can they pay it? I think we're getting to
the point that it's like it's gonna have to be done.
So just the question is only method right.
Speaker 6 (12:16):
Do all these other schools getting rid of their coaches
are anything put a little more pressure on Mitch to
make a move earlier than he wants.
Speaker 3 (12:22):
I don't think it changes the final decision. It might
make them have to announce something early. So I look
at it like this, If they're gonna make an end
season change, it'll happen after the Florida game. If they
don't do it after Florida, it'll he'll be here till the.
Speaker 2 (12:39):
End of the year. That's kind of how I see it.
Speaker 3 (12:42):
Yeah, I would be very surprised if there's an nd
season change, but I don't think it's impossible for the
first time, I don't think it's impossible, And I think
part of it is a little bit.
Speaker 2 (12:52):
These other teams.
Speaker 3 (12:53):
Yeah, because teams, I mean three SEC teams have let
their coach go midyear.
Speaker 6 (12:59):
Three maybe Auburn, maybe another one coming before the season.
Speaker 3 (13:02):
We win Saturday, it'll before think about that. If we
win Saturday, Hugh Freeze will be gone the next week too.
So there you go.
Speaker 4 (13:12):
And on your scenario of losing the next two and
then that Tennessee Tech game, I think about we're doing
it now. Think of how many times we bring up
that Joker game, the Vandy game.
Speaker 2 (13:22):
That'll be the job.
Speaker 4 (13:23):
I think if if these next two are ugly, don't
even put them in that position, because we all have
that imagery.
Speaker 2 (13:28):
That's years later.
Speaker 3 (13:30):
Cannot have a moment that Tennessee Tech game. This is
part of the reason you should never play these games
late in the year. But that's a noon game against
Tennessee Tech where fans might want to say something. You
can't let that happen, right And by the way, it
(13:51):
also could ruin a relationship that honestly shouldn't ruin like that.
Speaker 4 (13:56):
That's why if the next two are ugly, almost just
to do and I think they know what's your search.
Speaker 3 (14:01):
By the way, I think they know that. I didn't
think they knew it till yesterday. I now think they
know that.
Speaker 2 (14:07):
So I think Mark.
Speaker 3 (14:08):
Stoops is coaching right now, just to finish the season.
But also now, let me say, if they win six,
I think he will keep this job if he wants.
Speaker 6 (14:18):
It, be a hell of a coaching job. He ends
up winning six games this season.
Speaker 3 (14:22):
But I think I used to say, well, five will
make it hard. Five's not gonna do it. It's gotta
be six. And everybody can see what it would take
to get to six.
Speaker 6 (14:31):
Like I said, he said some things after the game
Saturday night that almost like leads me to believe, Okay's
he understands what's happening, and he accepts the fact that
he's gonna he's not gonna be here next year.
Speaker 2 (14:41):
He understands, Yeah, he knows. He feels this fan base.
Speaker 3 (14:46):
It's one of his strengths in my opinion, he feels
this fan I agree with you, and he knows what
we think.
Speaker 2 (14:53):
And I'll say this, it breaks his heart.
Speaker 3 (14:56):
I was talking to there's one media member that I
would say Mark and I are close. I know him
decently well, but like I haven't talked to him since July.
But there's one media member that knows him I think
really well, certainly better than I do. And I talked
to him this weekend after the game Saturday, and they
(15:20):
said to me, and I agree with this, it's really
kind of it kind of breaks my heart. Which, don't
get me wrong. I don't feel sorry for Mark Stoops.
He's gonna make a lot of money and he's gonna
be fine. But you know what, when people are sad,
they're sad. Like my weakness in life is also a strength,
which is I'm like insanely empathetic to people, even people
who are mean to me.
Speaker 4 (15:40):
Mark's not been mean to me, but just in general.
Speaker 3 (15:42):
And I feel bad for him because I know this
is like breaking his heart.
Speaker 6 (15:47):
Yeah, this is his baby, he's his first head coaching.
Speaker 2 (15:49):
Job, and he knows how the fans feel.
Speaker 3 (15:51):
Yeah, And I want you to imagine you spend your
whole life doing something and you want to please a
certain group of people.
Speaker 2 (15:57):
And then it's over. That's what this is.
Speaker 3 (16:01):
And so but I think it's gonna happen unless we
win three games against good.
Speaker 2 (16:08):
Teams, and I think that's unlikely.
Speaker 3 (16:09):
And I think it could be the final resting place
Saturday at Alburn.
Speaker 2 (16:14):
One of those coaches ain't coming out.
Speaker 4 (16:16):
Of the Alburt Day.
Speaker 3 (16:17):
Last Wednesday, twenty twenty seven, we'll do one more segment
about this. I want to hear from these guys. I
talked a lot on that one, and then we'll take
your calls after that.
Speaker 2 (16:26):
It's KOSR wuterback.
Speaker 3 (16:29):
It is Kentucky Sports Radio. A couple of questions on
text machine. One person says, Matt, why don't you just
call Stoops and ask keep yourself? Yeah, but I don't
know how you do it? Like I thought about calling Hi,
But what am I gonna say? What would you say?
Speaker 6 (16:43):
Hey, hey man, you're gonna talk to him as a
friend or as a member of the media, you know.
Speaker 3 (16:47):
I wouldn't know. I mean, so like we're not club.
Like let's say Ryan was the coach and this was happening.
I would call Ryan and be like, hey man, how
you do it? Yeah, Like we're not that club. And
then there's also the thing. Let's say he tells me
I'm gonna leave at the end of the year. What
am I supposed to not say that? I guess I couldn't,
(17:08):
But then that makes it that's weird, right, Yeah, So
there's just nothing you can say. Like I was friends
with Vince. I could talk to Vince about this stuff,
but like this is different.
Speaker 4 (17:20):
It is different, and gonaive him some advice.
Speaker 3 (17:22):
Oh, I appreciate that he doesn't even consider doing this.
Speaker 2 (17:25):
He doesn't mean, but you can tell he knows.
Speaker 6 (17:27):
Right, that's it. That's why I said, and what the
comments he made after the game Saturday. He knows what's
going on. And the thing is about the coaching search.
If you're going to make a move, you need to
have your new coach in place the day after that
Louisville game, because that transfer portal opens what January first,
January second, the whole month of December. You're gonna lose
some guys. You gotta go get some guys. You gotta
have your coach in place, as I feel like as
(17:49):
soon as this season's over.
Speaker 3 (17:50):
I do too, which is why they'll start all right.
So one person asked, Matt, what do you think about
announcing he'll be gone at the end of the year
and then letting.
Speaker 2 (17:58):
Him coach out.
Speaker 3 (17:59):
That's a possibility, but like Stoops has to agree to that,
and that's kind of an embarrassing situation.
Speaker 2 (18:05):
For a coach.
Speaker 4 (18:06):
You don't see that much.
Speaker 2 (18:07):
You don't see it much.
Speaker 4 (18:08):
It'scause of the coach k retirement.
Speaker 2 (18:10):
It's embarrassing for a coach.
Speaker 3 (18:11):
I'm gonna be fired at the end of this year
because then, but I'm gonna coach three more games.
Speaker 4 (18:17):
And in those games they zoom in on you on
the broadcast and talk about how you're a dead man walking.
Speaker 3 (18:22):
And he it's not like he's going into the retirement home,
like he could still do the job.
Speaker 6 (18:28):
Seem Newton did that with Bill Curry, let him go
in the middle of the season, and that Curry just
stayed on the rest of the year.
Speaker 2 (18:33):
But he never coached again, did he.
Speaker 6 (18:35):
After he left Kentucky, he went to like Georgia State
or something like that. And so the UK players took
the K logo off the side of their helmet. That's
like a sign of support for their coach. So now
you got the players supporting your coach. And yeah, I
didn't know that he took the K logo off on
one side of their helmet.
Speaker 2 (18:54):
But I don't think that's good what I'm saying.
Speaker 3 (18:56):
It was good for Bill Curry and his players, but
I don't know that that's a good statement program yes, correct, Yeah,
I don't think you can do that, although I mean
that might sub salvage the Tennessee Tech game.
Speaker 2 (19:08):
See, the problem with Tennessee Tech game is the symbolism
of it. It really is because it's.
Speaker 6 (19:13):
Such a bad game and they're undefeated. They hate no.
Speaker 3 (19:16):
Yeah, I mean, I'm not gonna say it because they're
let's not even think about it. They are lighting up score.
I know, because here's here's the odd thing. I do
think we're better than we were last year.
Speaker 6 (19:28):
Offens where's that offense been? That offense is getting better
every weekend that you scored thirty four points? You go,
you could win a lot of games.
Speaker 2 (19:35):
Bush Hamden underrated.
Speaker 4 (19:36):
Well, I mean the secondary is kind of the same people.
Speaker 3 (19:39):
So okay, So he made a statement Saturday that it
was classic Mark stoops. I'm gonna tell you what's wrong,
but I don't want to be accused of saying it.
He basically was like, there comes a point there's nothing
we could do, and he was talking about the secondary.
He was basically like he was all but saying Ryan, like,
I know these guys aren't What do you want me
(20:01):
to do? I can't go out and get more. Did
you kind of get that sense from that statement?
Speaker 7 (20:07):
Yep?
Speaker 6 (20:08):
And we all watched the game. Every long pass went
for a seventy eighty yards and a touchdown.
Speaker 2 (20:13):
I've never seen it.
Speaker 3 (20:14):
They've done that to us before, though, remember a few
years back they did that too, where it was just
like they just went deep. It felt like the whole
game was was backyard football, go deep.
Speaker 4 (20:23):
Hypel loves playing Kentucky. He has he's five and zero.
I think they've covered in most games. They just do
whatever they want with that. Kentucky plays defense.
Speaker 3 (20:32):
Now that it's over, can we say minus seven and
a half was the worst line of the year. I mean,
I don't bet against Kentucky. I genuinely thought this would
be my biggest bed of the year would be for Tennessee.
I couldn't believe it was seven and a half. Well,
I did bet against Kentucky. I agree, I think that's shameful.
Speaker 4 (20:51):
Well, when it was seven and a half, at some
point you gotta go, all right, well, this is just
obvious shame. I mean, I mean, shame, shame, shame that
blood money spends like he as that is blood money.
It was actually my biggest bet of the season's Diamond Hunter.
Speaker 6 (21:05):
But you know it was a one touchdown game with
a minute thirty left all halftime.
Speaker 2 (21:09):
I got back end of the second quarter, he gives
up a touchdown. Again, yep, that one.
Speaker 4 (21:15):
There was a minute thirty six they had to go seventy.
Speaker 3 (21:18):
Stadium knew they were going to score. Did anyone watching
the game not know they were going to score?
Speaker 4 (21:23):
They had one time out. In the press box, Steven
next to me goes, they're going to score, aren't they?
I was like, you know what, with one time out,
this might be the one time they don't know. Minute
and a half not down.
Speaker 2 (21:33):
I knew they were going to score.
Speaker 6 (21:35):
Somebody needs to look up how many points with Kentucky's
giving up in the final two minutes of the first half.
Speaker 3 (21:40):
I would be interested in our plus minus in the
last two minutes of the first half of the Stoops era.
It has to be minus six hundred and ninety.
Speaker 6 (21:48):
And that was so bad because we got the ball
to start the second half.
Speaker 3 (21:50):
Yes, if you hold them there, you have a chance
to tie the game to start second Yes, you do.
Speaker 6 (21:56):
Which was crazy. We felt like you were getting the
snot beat out of us up to that point. We're
the game.
Speaker 4 (22:00):
A lot of people left at halftime because of that.
I remember thinking it's a fourteen point game, but then
it hit me, well, they just watched yet another end
of Hasty.
Speaker 3 (22:09):
And it was kind of a miserable day. I mean, fans,
it felt like everybody was going to their death march.
Speaker 4 (22:15):
We wore black.
Speaker 6 (22:17):
Yeah, they didn't tell the.
Speaker 3 (22:17):
Stories, didn't tell the fans and the students. We had
a blackout where no one wore black except the players.
So all right, where are you as a fan base?
I'm gonna do. Here's the thing. Thirty second calls Rick,
we have to enforce this. Okay, okay, thirty second, Mark
Stoops takes ef I'm nine two eight oh twenty two
(22:40):
eighty seven. Phone lines are open. I've told you what
I think. What do you think? We'll be right back.
This is KSR. Welcome back, teke you Sports RADIOA. If I'm
nine two, eight oh twenty two eighty seven, what person
writes Matt, Why in the world when Mark Stoops walk
away from all that money, people are crazy to think
he'll do it. I don't think that's a ridiculous position
and Drew, but he also is miserable, and so you know,
(23:04):
is he going to walk away from thirty nine million
or thirty eight million dollars?
Speaker 8 (23:07):
No?
Speaker 3 (23:08):
But there is a world where he says, okay, maybe
i'll you can pay me over seven years, but you
have to pay me forty or you pay me right
now and it's twenty eight and we all agree, or
maybe you know, they're just hard negotiators and they pay
them thirty seven point six.
Speaker 4 (23:29):
And if you're in his shoes, yes, that's a lot
of money that you could sit here and take the
misery if you wanted, or you could have a little
less money with the millions you already have. And you know,
he's got young kids going through high school and college,
or he's got a beach house. You could go live
a very happy life, which is a few less million
than what you would get.
Speaker 3 (23:47):
He said, get a job somewhere else. Might not be
an sec level job, but there would be a job.
Speaker 4 (23:55):
He'll be an analyst for Kirby. Immediately.
Speaker 6 (23:57):
Coaches want a coach man, you know. So if he
sits out here, takes the big money, sits out of here,
he'll get back in the coaching world definitely.
Speaker 2 (24:05):
All right, So let's go through here.
Speaker 3 (24:07):
I'm gonna give everybody twenty to thirty seconds, all right,
because I want to hear what you think.
Speaker 2 (24:13):
But also we can't go on to So don't worry.
Speaker 3 (24:16):
We're all good. You don't have to ask how we are.
Just let it roll, David.
Speaker 2 (24:19):
Go.
Speaker 9 (24:24):
Hey, he goes on.
Speaker 2 (24:26):
I'm on. When I say your name, you're on.
Speaker 9 (24:29):
Oh sadness at the end of an era. And we
can't be mad at Mark Stoops because he's too good
of a guy. At least it was Brian Kelly. We
could hate him and then you know, us long time
football fans, It's like, at least we could say we
were better than Indiana.
Speaker 8 (24:50):
You know what I mean.
Speaker 9 (24:51):
In the Indiana being so good, it's salt in the
woods and that's my peace.
Speaker 2 (24:56):
I appreciate it. David.
Speaker 3 (24:57):
I do think that Ryan the Indiana Andy thing is
a part of this, I really do. I think it's
like it's like throwing right in our face that you
can do it, and.
Speaker 6 (25:06):
It's happening right when we're struggling. Those two teams have
stepped up to another levels way we do. Even myself,
I think, why can't we do that? Why can't that
be us?
Speaker 3 (25:13):
Louisville success has never bothered me because they play in
a different conference. But Indiana and Vandy doing it in
the SEC and big ten is frustrating.
Speaker 4 (25:21):
Yep, and you can zoom out. I saw the new
It's like whatever graphic with the playoff projections. It proved
so quickly that it opened doors for new teams. You
got Georgia Tech in there BYU's always been kind of steady,
but they're up near the top ten now. It's just
completely different logos in the top twenty five than what
we were used to seeing for so long.
Speaker 10 (25:40):
Joe and Philly go, I'm not paying Stoops thirty seven
to walk away. I'm telling him he has ten million
to work with. Put the rest into basketball. Drew Franklin,
your partner just called you shameless. I say, you recreate
those two famous mems. Go to the bank at three
hundred and one, put them to your phone and put
(26:01):
them up to your ear and just tweet out shameless
with you dancing souse. That's easy money. Maybe I appreciate
the call. Mimes, Man, Mimes, I mean, I get it.
Speaker 3 (26:12):
What's funny is though you can get away with Like
if I came out and said I bet on Tennessee,
I would get destroyed online.
Speaker 2 (26:19):
But Drew he gets.
Speaker 4 (26:21):
Away with I got bills, man, I don't know what
you want from me, I can't. I don't normally do that.
I've probably done that three times in ten years. But
it was so low I thought, I have I have
groceries this week.
Speaker 3 (26:31):
I have to understand. I mean, I would have. I
thought that was maybe the most ridiculous spread of the
year I've seen on any game. I thought it'd be
around fourteen and a half. Just for the record on
the Kasar parlay. My picks are now like seven in one.
Speaker 4 (26:45):
Hang on, now, I got the best record, but I
don't think I've lost you have I was the only
undefeated one going into this week, and I one.
Speaker 2 (26:53):
That's false. That's a why.
Speaker 3 (26:54):
First all, Now, I did miss two weeks, but I
don't think I've missed one. Now we know Shannon and Ryan,
we now Rick everybody ruins it.
Speaker 2 (27:03):
But I don't think I've lost one.
Speaker 4 (27:05):
I went one to one this week. I let us
down with the Arkansas apologize, guys. That's for me putting
money behind Bobby.
Speaker 2 (27:11):
But David, go ahead thirty seconds.
Speaker 5 (27:14):
First off, I want to say Ran did a great
job on Saturday with a tough show. People.
Speaker 2 (27:18):
I agree.
Speaker 3 (27:19):
I listened to like thirty minutes of it while trying
to find a position that I wasn't in misery, and
I thought he did a really good job.
Speaker 5 (27:28):
But yeah, I mean, keep it off. You guys are
all great, but you know, unfortunately, I think six wins
is out of the question. So gun to your head,
what do you think is more likely? Two wins or
five wins?
Speaker 3 (27:42):
Appreciate it to go, oh boy, say it five? Yeah,
because we're not losing Tennessee Tech, but so five. But
I don't think five. I think the most likely scenarios
for I think we beat I think we either beat
Auburn or Florida. We lose the other one and Tennessee
Tech is a miserable experience. Internally, they will have decided
(28:05):
to move on, but they can't say it externally, and
fans will think they need to make a statement and
it will be miserable, and then Tennessee and Vandy will
be sad.
Speaker 2 (28:13):
That's kind of where I think we are.
Speaker 6 (28:15):
And just me, I can see it's getting embarrassed at Auburn,
embarrassed at Vanderbilt, but winning those two games you're talking
about Florida and Tennessee Tech then going into law.
Speaker 3 (28:24):
Also note if you were to beat Auburn and Florida.
You could then have a three game winning streak going into.
Speaker 4 (28:31):
Vandy. I think they have Texas Auburn. They win those two,
you're looking at a top five Vandy team on his
senior day in Nashville, you will be walking into a
hornet's nest. And I can't believe I'm saying that about Vanderbilt.
Speaker 2 (28:44):
For you've turned on that guy yet? Who diego?
Speaker 4 (28:48):
I mean, I don't, I've never really I think he
can be a little over the top with his antics,
but I love watching him. I wasn't able to watch
a lot this last Saturday, but I watched the whole
LSU game a couple weeks ago, and he's just so
much fun. I mean, he was doing whatever he wanted.
I kind of like the arrogance when you're wearing the
Vandy logo on your helmet you're playing LSU. I'll admit
I enjoy watching him.
Speaker 3 (29:09):
Yeah, he's he's fun. I don't think there's any doubt
who's next. Jacob was up there, Jacob thirty seconds go.
Speaker 7 (29:18):
Andy, Matt, friends of ours are going down with me
to the to the Auburn game. We're taking the paper
sacks just in case we end up getting blown out.
Speaker 3 (29:29):
Yeah, they were out Saturday. There were a few of
them out Saturday.
Speaker 2 (29:33):
Go ahead.
Speaker 7 (29:35):
Yeah. I hated to see that. The LSU let go
of Brian Kelly just because that's another school we could
lose Summer all too, And that's all I.
Speaker 3 (29:44):
Got appreciate it. LSU is gonna be the best job available.
LSU's gonna get the best coach available. If they hired
John Summer, all that tells you what we could have had.
I don't think they will, though they're gonna get I mean,
LSU will be the best job. Florida and Penn State
are good Jo LSU might be the best job in
the country. Every coach of the last four has won
(30:05):
a national title except Brian Kelly.
Speaker 6 (30:08):
So where do they go?
Speaker 4 (30:10):
Who do they go after?
Speaker 2 (30:11):
Lane Kiffin? That's where he's going.
Speaker 4 (30:14):
Lane Kevin's got five jobs, right, He's getting that. That
is number one.
Speaker 3 (30:18):
Florida would have been. He's Lane Kiffin's a coach at LSU,
and and he'll kill it.
Speaker 4 (30:23):
When Kentucky fans be upset if Kentucky beat Auburn, they
immediately fired Hugh Freeze and then they ended up with
Summer all because they had an opening earth that.
Speaker 2 (30:32):
Will be the one that will hurt.
Speaker 3 (30:34):
But I don't think Somemerell is not gonna leave while
he's still coaching the team. So this is why you
have to make the internal decision to do it, because
you could get the summer all thing worked out behind
the scenes, because you already have this connection correct and
you could get it set, but you have to make
the decision to do it, and I don't think they've
(30:55):
made that decision yet, and I don't think they will
until we lose to Auburn or Florida. And the worst
scenario possible would be beat Auburn or Florida, lose the
other one, kind of know you're gonna do it, but
not sure, have a miserable thing against Tennessee Tech, go
into Vandy and Louisville, like, well, if we win both
of these and then like it's gone get smoked, that'd
(31:18):
be the worst scenario.
Speaker 2 (31:19):
But that is a scenario, to be quite frank with you,
that I think is most likely.
Speaker 3 (31:23):
Dennis go ahead, Dennis, din yeah, johnsonwell.
Speaker 5 (31:35):
Will side or Dan Muller with one games, the best
chances Heurder Mowley and the young receivers.
Speaker 3 (31:44):
No clue appreciate the call. I would think all those,
all the guys on the team would consider staying if
you got the right coach, why wouldn't you.
Speaker 4 (31:53):
Yeah, no matter who Stein, If you're talking about the offense.
Speaker 6 (31:55):
No matter who the coach is, your number one priority,
I think is to keep cutter bully here.
Speaker 3 (31:59):
And as good as those receivers are, there are lots
of good receivers. Cutters the main.
Speaker 6 (32:02):
Letters the one.
Speaker 2 (32:03):
But you also would say, I mean, Will Stein might
have a dude that's.
Speaker 6 (32:08):
Back up guy at Oregon. Maybe he.
Speaker 3 (32:12):
Let's real quick, do the you get to pick the coach.
Ryan Lemon is the AD, Drew Franklin z A D.
Matt Jones is the A D. Give them the order
of higher Ryan limit.
Speaker 6 (32:23):
I still go John SUMMERL one, Will Stein two, somebody
we hadn't even talked about, probably.
Speaker 4 (32:29):
Three, somebody off the rate. Yeah, all right, Drew, that's
mine too. Although Stein, that gap between sum Raw and
Stein keeps getting tighter and tighter, just with the offensive pieces.
And if you're able to keep the core of the
offense right now with Stein, that sounds like a lot
of fun for the next couple of years.
Speaker 2 (32:47):
Yeah, I'm flipping them. Are you really Stein?
Speaker 7 (32:50):
One?
Speaker 3 (32:50):
Let's have some fun. I've watched thirteen years of eyew
with football. Give me somebody who's gonna like blow me
away with play calls zippity dude, I don't I wouldn't
say that, but like and then somemer all second and
then third. I can't agree with you Ryan somebody I
don't even know.
Speaker 6 (33:08):
Yeah, well, when we do in the Mark Stoops search,
his name did not come up like that final day
and I remember we were saying at the at show in
Louisville at a subway and you, like you brought up
Mark Stoop, Like, who in the world is Mark?
Speaker 3 (33:17):
Somebody reminded me that will Stein's dad has come to
a couple of our remotes. Really, so I'm going to
like go through the archives and see if I can
contact him.
Speaker 6 (33:26):
Go hey, yeah, you know and he played here right
who ah.
Speaker 4 (33:30):
Yes, people were telling me will Stein was real close
to being a cat instead of a car at out
of high school, and that it kind of not even
fumbled on U K's in, but he wanted to be
a cat all along.
Speaker 3 (33:39):
Yeah, Clayton and Crum was found it on a simple idea.
All leather goods should last a lifetime. They make everything
from bags, belts, wallets, more and the best part to
do it right here in Kentucky. The leather you want,
at the price you need. Claytoncreme dot com, sru Emmy
dot com, or visit their flagship store Louisville two sixteen
South Shelby Street in Nulu. Quality leather goods built to last,
(34:00):
Layton and Kroom. We'll take a break and be right back, SKSR.
Speaker 2 (34:02):
Welcome back.
Speaker 3 (34:03):
It is can take you Sports radio A five nine
two eight oh twenty two eighty seven, text machine seven
seven two four five two five four one person rights, Matt,
Is there another coach besides some Raw and Stein that
would make you excited that we just don't know about.
I'm sure there is, Drew, we just don't know about it.
It's kind of the point I was shying to make,
like six weeks ago with you, but I did awkwardly
(34:24):
when you brought up Stein, as I was like, why
are we so excited about Stein?
Speaker 2 (34:26):
There are other guys like him.
Speaker 3 (34:28):
Probably should have said that differently, which is there are
other guys as exciting as him. We may just not
know who they are. We'll find that out during the process.
Speaker 2 (34:36):
Probably.
Speaker 4 (34:37):
Yeah, with so many job openings, there are guys that
are gonna move and other jobs are gonna open. This
carousel is gonna bring name the wide list of candidates.
But I'll say right now, if it's even though there
are other options, if it's not some raw or Stein
at this moment on October twenty seventh, I'll be pretty disappointed.
I don't want to have to settle, even if it
might work out. I'm very high on both of those
(34:57):
guys and want.
Speaker 2 (34:58):
Them one person rights, mat.
Speaker 3 (35:00):
I thought it was bad of you to skip the
postgame show after Tennessee. Isn't this a cow like performance
calling in on the shows, phoning in on the shows
when the team does badly, No, because they don't work
for the state. But secondly, when we took the Cover
zero I think it's important for people to know. When
we took the Cover zero podcast, as part of my
(35:22):
deal with iHeart, I did say to them, look on
some of these weekends, I'm gonna have to skip shows.
So for instance, this weekend, we had a show in
the morning. Friday, we had a pregame basketball show, a
Postgame Basketball Show, Pregame Saturday, Postgame Saturday, NFL ESPN Saturday morning,
(35:42):
and then NFL last night. We finished at one am,
and I said, if you want me to do this
NFL show, I have to take some of them off.
And we agreed that a couple of the pregame basketballs
and a couple of the postgame footballs I would take off.
Speaker 2 (35:57):
So that's why it is like it is.
Speaker 3 (36:00):
I love people, but I'm not gonna apologize for not
doing seven shows on the weekend. Also, when I can't
sit up straight right because of my back, I didn't
know that was going to be happening, but you.
Speaker 6 (36:12):
Know, I was saying, man, give give the guy some slack.
You know, this decision was made weeks ago to schedule
me doing a postgame Drew's doing the postgame Thursday. We
were this is already scheduled.
Speaker 7 (36:22):
Well.
Speaker 3 (36:22):
It was also it was also a timing issue. I
knew that postgame show would end at like two am.
I have ESPN the next morning, and then I knew
we'd be up to one am doing the NFL on
Sunday night and then doing this on Monday. And I
was like, I've got to take one of these off.
I can't take the NFL went off, so we chose
that post game Yeah, and I thought, honestly, I thought
you and Billy did.
Speaker 4 (36:42):
A great job.
Speaker 6 (36:43):
I appreciate it.
Speaker 3 (36:43):
Josh Hopkins, Shannon taking off for Shannon's taking off for
back issues too.
Speaker 4 (36:49):
He's taking out for me.
Speaker 2 (36:50):
Josh, how are you?
Speaker 4 (36:52):
I'm great.
Speaker 2 (36:52):
You get up here next to the microphone, happy to
be here. Were you at the football game Saturday? I
was not. Okay, I watched.
Speaker 3 (37:00):
I don't have to hang up. I just wanted to
say hi to Josh. We're going to get to him
more on the next one. I just wanted to say
to it.
Speaker 11 (37:05):
I just want to say one thing about football, Okay,
in my lifetime, and I'm old, the team's never been
as good as they were under Stoops. I understand the
time has come, but I'll always hold a special place
for him.
Speaker 4 (37:22):
I also bak with women.
Speaker 11 (37:24):
Yes, I get broken up with.
Speaker 9 (37:32):
The team.
Speaker 11 (37:33):
These kids have not given up.
Speaker 2 (37:35):
They haven't.
Speaker 11 (37:36):
They fight hard, that you can tell, and I think
that needs to be said and noticed because I see them.
They're fighting hard still. So I have a place in
my heart for these kids because they are fighting and
they're proud, and I really like this group.
Speaker 3 (37:52):
All right, I totally agree with all of that. Let
me I want to take a couple of these calls
and then talk to you at eleven. Miller, Go ahead, Miller, Hey.
Speaker 12 (38:02):
Guys, why don't we just take the jersey sales from
Malachime Moreno and Jasper Johnson a thunderbuyou. I will sign
at a cut rate, and when he leaves us for
a premiere program after a couple of special seasons, hired
John Summer all when he gets fired from his premier job,
we're going for being mediocre, problem solved.
Speaker 2 (38:19):
Appreciate called. There are gonna be a lot of jersey
sales after Malachim Moreno. I mean, we're gonna wait for
the second hour, but I think that is true. Let's
go to Mark.
Speaker 8 (38:27):
Go ahead, Mark, Hey, guys, one thing Stops is, like
he was just talking about. Stops has done a lot
of great things for this football program, but it is
time to move on and it's just not performing at
the level that everybody else is twice as quick. I
think you gotta let him go now. You're paying the
(38:48):
nine million, eight million whatever we owe him for a salary,
but You've got to let him go now and start
working on that because well, if you're.
Speaker 3 (38:55):
Not what if you're having those conversations, even if you're
not publicly letting me go. I mean, I understand what
you're saying, but letting them go in the middle of
the season, that's I mean. I don't think has Mitch
ever let a coach go in the middle of the
season that you know of.
Speaker 6 (39:09):
I don't think so well. But with Joker, let go
before that last game, before.
Speaker 2 (39:15):
The last game? Yeah, was he not? Did he not announced?
Speaker 6 (39:19):
That?
Speaker 8 (39:20):
Are what's gonna have nobody at the stadium for Florida
and or Tennessee Tech.
Speaker 2 (39:26):
I think you're gonna have people for Florida.
Speaker 3 (39:28):
Appreciate the call because it's Florida, but I think you
have a real worry ryan of having no one at
the stadium for the Tennessee Tech game.
Speaker 6 (39:36):
Especially they lose both to Auburn and Florida. There there
may be ten people at the Tennessee Tech game noon.
Speaker 3 (39:42):
Game against Tennessee Tech in November, you could have nobody.
Speaker 4 (39:48):
Well, we find out the Florida game time today. I
think that could also be a statement game. Put that
at noon and let Florida get killed this weekend, because
Florida does not look like a team.
Speaker 2 (39:56):
Then maybe if they got killed, we think we could win.
Speaker 4 (39:59):
Who's we? You got a mouse in your pocket?
Speaker 2 (40:02):
I think Kentucky could win.
Speaker 4 (40:03):
You don't think Kentucky could be Florida. Well, it's more
of the excitement. Sure, no, they could definitely win, but
it's am I gonna go tailgate to watch a Florida
team without a coach that's not good.
Speaker 2 (40:13):
Is not gonna like whether they're good. It's not gonna
matter to me.
Speaker 3 (40:16):
I actually want them to not be good because I
want us to have a chance to win the game.
Speaker 6 (40:20):
Yes, that's one of our few winnable games we have
left now.
Speaker 4 (40:23):
I think you could be a favorite. I just mean
I don't. I think the fans could sit that one
out because it's not that exciting if you were to
not have a big weekend against offer.
Speaker 3 (40:30):
Amy McGrath writes me one more text message asking for money.
Speaker 6 (40:35):
You know she was a fighter pilot.
Speaker 2 (40:36):
Why did they stop there's a.
Speaker 6 (40:38):
Lot of combat missions soccer goalie.
Speaker 3 (40:41):
They should take me off the list in principle, you
got me kicked off my television show. I'm not gonna
give you money.
Speaker 4 (40:48):
Do you ever reply? It's probably just some.
Speaker 2 (40:53):
But do you know who this is? Somebody should have
some understanding. Let's go to Jeff. Go ahead, Jeff.
Speaker 8 (41:05):
I don't think that Barnhart can give stupid chance to
make a bowl game because it's all over the contract.
Speaker 2 (41:13):
No it's not.
Speaker 3 (41:14):
They changed that, by the way, so that that got
changed in the last revision last year, so it doesn't
autover new anymore. So that does make that does make
a difference, actually, but it does not autover new anymore.
Speaker 6 (41:27):
That would be the case. Yeah, when they get six wins,
make a bowl game, you get at another year to that.
Speaker 3 (41:31):
What do you think of fans who take the view
