This is Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage.

Speaker 4 (00:36):
Now here's Matt Jones.

Speaker 2 (00:38):
Welcome everyone.

Speaker 5 (00:39):
It is Kentucky Sports Radio, Tuesday, November the eighteenth Champions
Classic Day here in Lexington, Kentucky. And you give Sean
the Clark's Puppet Shop phone line. That's eight five nine
two eight oh twenty two eighty seven. We will take
your calls today. We did not take any yesterday. So
if you got stuff to say about basketball, football or

(00:59):
live a vision Auto Glass text machine is seven seven
two seven four five two five four in thistition sponsored
by the t J. Smith Office. If you call TJ
he'll make them pay. We're back in Lexington. I have
Drew uh and Shannon Ryan is running late because he
had some sort of doctors something, but he will be
here very soon. And tonight is a champions class at

(01:22):
Kentucky and Michigan State. But Drew first of all, good
to be back in Lexington. The drive to Buffalo was
I didn't feel like very far. But the drive back,
it's a The coming home from an adventure always takes
longer than getting there.

Speaker 6 (01:37):
Yeah that the excitement usually takes off a couple hours
on a trip wherever you're headed. I always say Nashville
is an hour and a half there before getting back.
The excitement get you know, helps get there. But on
the way home, we're a little slower than.

Speaker 2 (01:49):
Yeah, and the Ohio was bigger that way.

Speaker 5 (01:52):
I don't think if people I don't think people realize
Ohio is longer when you go south than if you
go north.

Speaker 2 (01:56):
It's expanding daily, it is. So it was Ohio, lot
of Ohio.

Speaker 5 (02:01):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (02:01):
But we got back and now right back to it.

Speaker 5 (02:05):
This is the time of year where it feels like
there is a Kentucky game every day of some point,
and tonight it's a big one against Michigan State.

Speaker 2 (02:13):
Are you feeling are you feeling confident? Confident? Ish? I'm
very excited about it, I'll say that. But why are
you excited? Just big games?

Speaker 6 (02:21):
Another I'd love to be there, love New York, love
the Champions Classic, even though they usually lose when I
show up. But no, I'm just excited to watch a game.

Speaker 5 (02:28):
Yeah, people, people were honest for for for not going.
I mean we talked about like it's not close, you know,
I mean it's it's not close at all. I would
challenge everybody shit and pull out a map. Yeah, just
pull out a map and look at Buffalo and then
look at New York City. It's not It would be
like saying, oh, you're in Fulton, Kentucky. Why don't you

(02:48):
just swing by Pipeville.

Speaker 4 (02:50):
It's like a four hour difference.

Speaker 3 (02:52):
Like if you were to take off here and go
to New York City, it's like eleven eleven and a half.
It's like, what's seven and a half to Buffalo from Louisville.

Speaker 5 (02:58):
Yes, but even bigger is Drew and I were figuring
it's seven and a half from Buffalo to Lexington.

Speaker 2 (03:04):
But if you drove to New York during traffic hours.

Speaker 5 (03:07):
Forget it's basically seven to seven and a half from
Buffalo to New York, so would essentially have been the
exact same drive. The other thing is, you know, we uh,
we've got we just decided not to do it.

Speaker 2 (03:20):
I did notice all of our bosses, Shannon are there.

Speaker 5 (03:23):
Which continue It continues a theme of mine, which is
over the years, our bosses get to go to these
Champions Classic games and they don't send us.

Speaker 2 (03:33):
I've been to zero hearty man, Sorry, man, we can't
go to the Champions Classic. By the way, Hey everybody,
we're hanging out at the Champions Classic.

Speaker 5 (03:43):
It just goes to show you because I don't I
don't believe Shannon, they're covering the game, do you?

Speaker 4 (03:48):
I don't think so. Are in the post game show post.

Speaker 2 (03:52):
The post game show.

Speaker 6 (03:54):
We also couldn't go because we had the key to
the whole radio broadcast in our car with no Billy
r Sports sitting in the See, people don't real it
wouldn't have been a game without Billy.

Speaker 5 (04:03):
So so just so people know when you turn on
the radio broadcast. In addition to hearing me say for
all y'all, the the thing that keeps it on is Billy.
They had to essentially call in the National Guard to
have the get the Tennessee Tech football game because he
was gone, so there would be no basketball game tonight
without it.

Speaker 2 (04:21):
But you feel good, ish, I do feel good. It's
three and a half point favorite, four and a half.

Speaker 4 (04:28):
It's gone up, okay five and a half a minute ago.

Speaker 2 (04:31):
Yeah, it just went down, up, down, moving around.

Speaker 4 (04:36):
They should win.

Speaker 6 (04:37):
I know they need to bounce back from Louisville. They
need to bounce back from New York last year where
they just got completely waxed by Ohio State right before Christmas.
Just Michigan State's physicality worries me with we haven't been
be able to handle that well. But Michigan State can't
shoot the ball very well. So if Kentucky's shooting and
playing with some pace, they'll be okay.

Speaker 5 (04:54):
Yeah, I mean, I think it's one of these games.
If there's a point number we can hit and we
will win. I mean, don't want to turn into a fight.
Michigan State beat Arkansas because Arkansas couldn't shoot, So if
we can make shots, which hasn't been guaranteed most of
the year, we should be okay. Now now, I was
thinking about Champions Classic games over the years against Michigan State.

(05:14):
The last time we played Michigan State in New York
was the famous Tyres Maxie game, which was probably one
of the most consequential nights that I can remember, because
in the same night Maxie goes for was it thirty
thirty five something like that?

Speaker 2 (05:31):
Yeah, it was.

Speaker 5 (05:32):
I can't read a huge amount, but sheer beat Bevan
and I got fired from the radio.

Speaker 2 (05:37):
Big huge night. That was a huge night.

Speaker 4 (05:39):
Yeah, a lot happened there.

Speaker 5 (05:41):
That was a huge night in Kentucky, at least in
my personal Kentucky experience.

Speaker 2 (05:47):
That all happened the same evening.

Speaker 6 (05:48):
You're hoping for a less eventful Champions Classic in New
York tonight.

Speaker 5 (05:51):
Well, what would be the equivalent of the three things?

Speaker 2 (05:55):
Our comments about being jealous that we don't get to
go to.

Speaker 5 (05:57):
Things, Yes, so then we get fired, Yeah, and then
it's the Basher beats Bevin.

Speaker 2 (06:03):
What else is going on tonight?

Speaker 5 (06:05):
We'd have to think about what that would be, but
we'd have what uh Oway goes for twenty five or thirty?

Speaker 2 (06:11):
Now we need a freshman needs to be Jasper Jasper.

Speaker 6 (06:14):
Goes for thirty Oh, Jasper goes for thirty. Then we
gotta take whatever happens around that.

Speaker 5 (06:19):
So the vibe or like like vibes around here, not
not around KSR.

Speaker 2 (06:27):
In fact that iHeart is at the game and we're
not chatting, not.

Speaker 5 (06:30):
That uh those vibes, those vibes, put those vibes to
the side, the uh.

Speaker 2 (06:38):
The vibes around the fan base. I feel like the
fans have taken the Louisville loss harder.

Speaker 5 (06:49):
Than they should have. And I was and I was
trying to think of what those reasons why are? Okay,
So we always lose a game in the non conference.
I mean there's only been what two years, one year
we haven't lost twenty fifteen and a lot of the
first true game, and it's often the first true road game.
The difference this year.

Speaker 2 (07:04):
Is it's Louisville.

Speaker 5 (07:06):
If we had lost to Louisville in December, I don't
think you get this reaction.

Speaker 2 (07:11):
Do you know? It's first market game, first.

Speaker 5 (07:13):
Mark, so I think that's number one. It's the first
Marquee game. I think that's very important. It's the first
Markeee game. So it's the first time people get to
decide are we.

Speaker 2 (07:22):
Real or not? Yeah, last year they beat Duke in
that spot, it's exactly right, and this year we lost.

Speaker 5 (07:27):
Secondly, we were down the entire game, right, so we
get down early and so it feels like we're constantly
behind and a lot of the game behind by big numbers.
And then, of course, so I think that's part of it.
And then it was that I think Louisville had the

(07:47):
guy that we're used to having. We're used to having
the Michale Brown kind of guy over the years, and
now they have it. I mean, when's the last time
Louisville had definitively the best talent on the court?

Speaker 6 (08:01):
Has that happened before cal got here? I mean, Christy
Snyder had a big game, but he wasn't the most
talented guy.

Speaker 2 (08:07):
You know, maybe when Russ Smith.

Speaker 5 (08:09):
But but I think even with like Russ Smith, we
would have said, Okay, well maybe he's the best. He's
better right now. But the Twins are gonna be good.
You don't pick whatever rand like, we're gonna be there.
And there's not a guy on this team that you say, well,
by the end of the year, he's gonna be a superstar.
So I think all of that has combined to make

(08:30):
us take the loss maybe worse.

Speaker 2 (08:33):
Than we otherwise would. Would you agree? I agree?

Speaker 6 (08:36):
And we've just been so spoiled beating them. It's like
we don't even know how to react. Even their last
one before that was like the coaches were wearing mask,
the arena was empty. We just kind of like whatever,
We're just trying to go see our grandparents right now.
So just now, I was just gonna add, now there's
we have a little some big concerns on another Marquee game,
and that one at the end of Louisville they were
trying to hand it to Kentucky. I think that added

(08:57):
it to it too. How often do you see a
team miss seven straight free throw and then Kentucky.

Speaker 5 (09:01):
And then you get the Low injury. Now we still
don't have any word on Low. I assume he'll have
to address it today right after the game.

Speaker 6 (09:13):
Yeah, I mean, I mean I would expect him to play.
Pope's gonna get asked.

Speaker 5 (09:17):
But he's gonna get asked whether or not he's playing.
He said they were gonna meet on the weekend and
talk theory.

Speaker 2 (09:23):
We should know. I expected to know yesterday.

Speaker 5 (09:26):
I mean I expected to even get even if it
wasn't official, the kind of probably not playing or think
he will. So we'll probably know that tonight. So I
would ask you two things. Let's say we win and
then we hear he may come back, different fan base tomorrow.

Speaker 2 (09:45):
I think they get excited about that. It'd be hard
not to.

Speaker 6 (09:47):
I mean, Michigan State's ranks got a big win over Arkansas.
They're tough team toiz. Oh, and then if you can
win that in the garden that got you last year,
and then you hear you know a lot of people
myself included, are worried he could be out for the season.
If you hear he's gonna give it a go, you
gotta be thrilled about everything that could happen tonight.

Speaker 2 (10:02):
So that would be best possible ops. Yes, all right?
What about worst possible ops?

Speaker 5 (10:07):
What if you lose and then in the post game
Pope says not gonna play this year.

Speaker 2 (10:15):
That's gonna be an ugly scene around here. I'm worried.

Speaker 6 (10:17):
I don't think Kentucky's gonna get loose to night, and
if they do, I don't think it'd be by much.
If they were to play bad and Michigan State get
them pretty good, and then you get some bad low news.
It's gonna get uncomfortable around here. People are gonna be
very upset in your two big games you lost, and
then your point guard's not playing.

Speaker 5 (10:33):
It would go from I mean, I think it would
be funny at that point, Shannon, to think about the
two programs two weeks ago. Oh yeah, two weeks ago
Stoops was essentially fired and we had beaten Purdue, you know, right,
and then go to now. It would just show you
how quick the roller coaster, Shannon, for any coach can go.

Speaker 3 (10:54):
Yeah, if you lose that game to night, all of
a sudden, and there's pressure on you too, because you
still got a tough schedule non conference, you just go
still got Saint John's, you got Gonzaga, you got North Carolina,
and we were talking about maybe one or two non
conference losses, and now all of a sudden, you're well,
there's not a game or five.

Speaker 4 (11:09):
Losses in that.

Speaker 5 (11:10):
There's not a non conference game amongst the six difficult games,
there's not one now that you say is definitely a win.
With that, I mean, every single one of those games
is now hard.

Speaker 6 (11:23):
This might be the easiest of the bunch. Ucral Court
I mean, Michigan State's good that everybody's got.

Speaker 5 (11:29):
It's not a mite. This is the easiest one of
the bunch. I mean Indiana. I guess you would say
it's at home. Indiana and North Carolina are at home.
But if you're just talking about quality team, I mean,
think about this. We our six non conference games are
against six teams that.

Speaker 2 (11:43):
Are all ranked.

Speaker 6 (11:44):
Yeah, I didn't consider Indiana. That might be the answer,
but still, this is one you need to get.

Speaker 2 (11:49):
And Gonzaga looks like a just juggernaut. Now they could
be number one when we go to Nashville.

Speaker 5 (11:55):
Yeah, I mean they last night they beat team some
team like one hundred and ninety.

Speaker 2 (11:59):
Five thirty three.

Speaker 4 (12:02):
Is that official?

Speaker 5 (12:03):
I mean I may have a number all yeah, but
I think it was one hundred and ninety.

Speaker 2 (12:08):
Five to three, one hundred and twenty two to fifty.
That's close.

Speaker 6 (12:11):
They also destroyed a ranked creating team by thirty, beat
Oklahoma by almost twenty.

Speaker 5 (12:17):
They're killing people, so they're really good. Yes, So the
point is we need to win the night. Now, the
games at six thirty, we're not kind of used to
playing that early six thirty game.

Speaker 6 (12:28):
That's the Michigan State tax we get pulled down because
you did them.

Speaker 2 (12:31):
That's exactly right. When you when you play Michigan State.

Speaker 5 (12:35):
It's like when you drive for the first time in
Pennsylvania after you've been in Kentucky, Ohio, you're like, oh,
you got to pay tolls by the way. I don't
know what happens, Shannon, with these tolls in Pennsylvania and
New York.

Speaker 2 (12:47):
Yeah, like what, we'll send it to you. I'll just
tell you if they send it. I don't ever respond.

Speaker 3 (12:53):
I don't think you have to worry about it. Are
we gonna be in Pennsylvania.

Speaker 2 (12:56):
Next No, I'm just saying, right, why have to pay.

Speaker 4 (12:59):
One here in Louisville going to Indiana?

Speaker 5 (13:01):
Well, that one you have to because it's like sent
by Louisville, right, But I don't know who the Pennsylvania
and New York people are sending the thing to, and
it might be in the mailbox and I just say.

Speaker 6 (13:10):
Eh, it's there with your Gettysburg parking ticket.

Speaker 2 (13:13):
Yeah, well no, I.

Speaker 5 (13:14):
Had to pay that one. But Gettysburg parking ticket came back.
But the Pennsylvania New York tolls, Shannon, when do you
find out about those?

Speaker 3 (13:22):
I don't think they're gonna double down, Like they're gonna
send it to you one time. If you throw it away,
I don't think you're gonna get another one, but ever,
I mean you might. What if all that is accumulating
over the years.

Speaker 5 (13:32):
You remember, you remember when Obama ran for president. We've
talked about this before. All of a sudden it came
out that he had like ninety eight parking tickets across
America due yeah, like no, remember he had like like
every town he just had a parking ticket and he
had to go one by one and pay all these

(13:54):
parking tickets. Day. You're never gonna run for anything, but
that would be me. They'd be like, by the way,
you one time had a parking ticket. Layer me wolmbe
And I'd be like, that's exactly right. Shannon wanted to
go to that bar and pulled over and then I
just parted there was a ticket, and I was like,
who needs this?

Speaker 2 (14:12):
It's a wow, mean parking tick. When's this ever gonna
come up?

Speaker 4 (14:16):
So?

Speaker 3 (14:16):
I mean, what's the punishment If you don't pay that?
They're not gonna throw you in jail. So what's the
motivation you'd have to pull over.

Speaker 5 (14:24):
And physically pay it once Drew and I didn't have
any cash, and they made us like we're gonna attained.

Speaker 2 (14:29):
I had to mow around these we.

Speaker 5 (14:31):
Had to work on the sid road because between us
we had no cash.

Speaker 2 (14:35):
And we were like, they were like, all right, move
these rocks and we'll let you go.

Speaker 6 (14:38):
We were like sixty cents short too. I just stood
on the interstatedent.

Speaker 5 (14:42):
Now they're like, I will send it to you, but
I don't know if they ever do it. But if
they do, I know I haven't paid it. If I'm
not two eight oh twenty two eighty seven. Uh, the
text machine is seven seven two seven seven four five
two five four. We'll take your calls. Uh, talk a
little more about the trip, hopefully Righte'll be here soon, Chaz,

(15:04):
welcome back. Take you sports radio. If I'm nine two
eight twenty two eighty seven text machine seven seven two
seven four five two five four. One person writes, Matt, Uh,
part of the problem is you are all doom and gloom.
I love your show, but your glass is at half full.
It's empty. Get some rest and come back tomorrow with
a better attitude.

Speaker 2 (15:24):
What are they talking about?

Speaker 5 (15:25):
I We laughed more yesterday on the show, than I
have laughed and forever, I had the most fun two days.

Speaker 7 (15:33):
What what is the Where.

Speaker 2 (15:36):
Are we coming off as doom and gloom?

Speaker 6 (15:38):
Sunday was one of the best days of my life.
In fact, when I walked into iHeart this morning, three
people said, we're surprised you're here, like we thought you
were staying Shannon.

Speaker 2 (15:46):
Do you do you think we sound doom and gloom?

Speaker 4 (15:48):
No? No, I don't think so at all.

Speaker 2 (15:50):
What's wrong with you? Randy? Come on, Randy? Yeah, yeah, Randy.

Speaker 4 (15:55):
Maybe it's just excited about the game. Maybe that's a
you problem. Randy.

Speaker 7 (15:59):
Yeah, you think.

Speaker 5 (15:59):
Randy projecting his home doom and gloom onto.

Speaker 2 (16:03):
Other people think so that may be the case.

Speaker 5 (16:06):
Well, if I'm if I've come off at all negative,
I'm not. I want to win tonight, though, I do
think it's important for the for the for the.

Speaker 2 (16:14):
For the fan base.

Speaker 5 (16:15):
I mean, I think people, you know, a lot of
life is about expectations, and I think there was a
big expectation with this team, and if you don't hit it, then.

Speaker 2 (16:25):
It just leads people to be a little bit more negative.

Speaker 6 (16:27):
I'm gonna say some positive things about the games. Good matchups. Yeah, uh,
they're gonna want to turn this into a fight. Maybe
we get a lot of fouls. They don't have any depth.
Kentucky has all of the depth. So it might be
a good night to have some whistles because once they're
big guys get in trouble, they don't have much behind.

Speaker 5 (16:42):
Yeah that that that that would be good. And you
tend to have a lot of fouls in Michigans.

Speaker 6 (16:46):
And if you speed them up and use your depth,
that's an advantage. Also, Michigan State can't shoot, so uh,
Louisville got Kentucky by knocking down a lot of shots.

Speaker 5 (16:54):
Michigan States they're incapable. One person rights cry cry cry.
All Kentucky fans do is cry. You wind about playing
the cards in November. Now you're crying about playing at
six thirty.

Speaker 2 (17:04):
I don't mind.

Speaker 5 (17:04):
I'm actually ever playing me two thirty. And one of
the problems about this game is he goes so late
at night. I mean, you know, it sometimes doesn't endull
two in the morning. So I'm I'm I'm actually very
happy about the game time. It's just gonna be weird
because you know, six thirty. We don't play many games
at times.

Speaker 6 (17:20):
Everything you've said, people are on the wrong side of
the argument. I'm thrilled at six thirty eighty two I
might get some sleep tonight. I would have hated the
nine o'clock. So your text machine needs to shut up.
We're in a great place.

Speaker 5 (17:29):
Wow, all right, Ryan's here. How are you welcome back
to k Why? Boys, we had a good time. It
was a lot of fun. Missed you. You missed a lot.
You've You've been replaced by Billy on these trips. Guess
he you never brought a veggie tray. I never one time.

Speaker 7 (17:42):
I do have some thoughts about your trip. Show yesterday
was awesome. Giddy shows on the road are the best.

Speaker 2 (17:48):
Yes, thank you.

Speaker 7 (17:49):
But the videos you guys put out probably even better.
The videos with you with the players drew in the
parking lot, Marios, videos I thought were outstanding.

Speaker 2 (17:56):
Let me ask you a question about the videos.

Speaker 5 (17:58):
First of all, I had a lot of comments from
people saying that I looked uncomfortable interviewing the players in
the locker room. Mario, you're shaking your head. Why did
I How do you think I looked uncomfortable? First of all,
I was, I was uncomfortable, so I may have.

Speaker 4 (18:15):
Looked it maybe because they didn't have any clothes on.

Speaker 5 (18:17):
I'm part of it is the claque of club behind
the camera where Mario is.

Speaker 2 (18:21):
They're just offensive linemen walking around. There's just too much nudity.

Speaker 5 (18:25):
It reminded me of when I used to go to
the old y m C A gym in Louisville and
these old men would just walk around nude all the time,
and I'm like yeah, and they'd like I was like,
that's not But then these guys, those.

Speaker 2 (18:42):
Guys should have had more clothes on.

Speaker 5 (18:44):
These guys I think are for the most part proud,
but there are too many abs shennon and there are
too many accessories, and I just I'm I probably was uncomfortable.
I used to that because like that doesn't happen in
these college things. This is a crow like opening the
locker rooms. I just wasn't used to.

Speaker 7 (19:03):
But I was going up to the Bengals like for
seven years in a row, and into the locker room
after every home game, and the receivers, the running back,
the quarterbacks, the guys, the good bodies, they seem to
always cover theirself. It was a big fat lineman.

Speaker 2 (19:13):
You are exactly you said it, I'm not gonna say it.
That's true.

Speaker 4 (19:17):
Yeah, that's true.

Speaker 8 (19:19):
It is no larger the person, the less closed, the
less clothes they had one, and the fact that they're like, yeah,
I mean Ray Davis, I like Ray Davis.

Speaker 2 (19:29):
Do not telling Mario has been telling him. We don't
like him, we like him, Come on, Mario, come on, Mario.
But Ray Davis. I was like, hey, man, I wait, nope,
I'm good. I'm good. We'll throw on this washcloth. Now's
the time. And it's like and it was like a
Motel six washcloth. It's not even it's not even plush.

Speaker 7 (19:51):
So if you felt a little uncomfortable, then you had
a good reason why.

Speaker 5 (19:54):
It looked like somebody said I held the microphone like
I was, uh, you know, wink Martindale and Bob Barker.
I was trying to keep my distance from between them.

Speaker 7 (20:04):
It is a different world when you walk into that
NFL locker room. Then if you walk into a college,
it's like that. I'd never been in the NFL locker
room NBA a couple of times.

Speaker 5 (20:16):
Okay, I just I mean, I'm not people don't have
to I'm not modest.

Speaker 2 (20:21):
I'm just saying you don't. I just wasn't used to it.

Speaker 6 (20:24):
My big takeaway on that, and it's happened before, it's
gone viral when people are doing news interviews. How does
that not pop up in the background, because the times
it has.

Speaker 7 (20:33):
We went up and interviewed Tim Couch when they played
the Bengals in the Browns locker room, had this great
interview with him. We couldn't use it because, like we
got home and put the tape in, we realized there's
a big, fat offensive lineman drawing himself off with a
towel the whole interview.

Speaker 5 (20:46):
Yeah, I'm going when you started, what's what's What's what?
What's what's What's he gonna say? And thankfully it didn't
end up. Just a little side note, a little behind
the scenes. Keon Coleman, he's a receiver for Buffalo. I
guess he had missed a practice so he had to
miss the game. He was suspended for the game. He

(21:07):
walks out of the locker room before they open it,
and the media all descends on him and he decides
to talk to him. So the media is sitting there
interviewing Keon Coleman, and then I realized I'm like right
behind him, and I'm in everybody shot. So if you
watch the Buffalo Media's interview with Keon Coleman, I'm kind
of behind him going because I didn't realize where I was,

(21:32):
and so I'm right. There's got a video. Well, I
made my own video yesterday.

Speaker 6 (21:35):
I tried to do my best Mario, and I included
where you turn around and realize.

Speaker 5 (21:38):
You have like a reaction scared, like, oh, nice to
see you, David. Go ahead, David, David, what's going on?

Speaker 2 (21:51):
Yes, go ahead, I'm ready for the gage to that.

Speaker 9 (21:55):
And I was thinking too. We had some really great gags.
Did you can say through the years, We've got to
mention in this one game the basketball game where we
were in Detroit and we broke the world record for
the most attend the game.

Speaker 5 (22:09):
Yeah, that's true. I forgot about that. We played him
in the dome up there.

Speaker 2 (22:14):
That was quick.

Speaker 5 (22:16):
Michigan State regular season games. Obviously we had the big
win in the tournament. Regular season games. The Maxi one
sticks out, you got that one.

Speaker 2 (22:23):
That was a good one.

Speaker 5 (22:24):
We wore silver uniforms one time against them.

Speaker 7 (22:27):
They beat us at Ruperena. I think the year they
won the title. And what was that ninety nine or
Gerald Fitch hit.

Speaker 5 (22:32):
A shot at the buzzer against him one time to
beat him? WHOA David me?

Speaker 9 (22:36):
No, Ryan, we beat him that year? They went they
beat him all.

Speaker 7 (22:41):
I just remember being at the game. It was at Repperena.
Don't argue right Acthlely Judd was sitting court side.

Speaker 2 (22:46):
Didn't we hit? Didn't Gerald Fitch like hit a three
to beat him one year?

Speaker 5 (22:49):
And Rob.

Speaker 7 (22:51):
I'm gonna say yes, I feel like that happened.

Speaker 5 (22:54):
And then we had the game in twenty fourteen where
we had all those freshmen and we thought we were
going to crush them, and then they beat it well
and kind of crushed us that year. That was a
wake up call. So we'll see ef. I'm nine two
eight twenty two a cent. We'll be right back.

Speaker 7 (23:12):
A good triple.

Speaker 2 (23:16):
TJ. Smith, personal injury attorney called TJ. He'll make them pay.

Speaker 3 (23:20):
Now more of Kentucky Sports Radio present it by Stockton Mortgage.

Speaker 4 (23:24):
Here's Matt Jones.

Speaker 2 (23:25):
Welcome back Tucky Sports Radio.

Speaker 5 (23:26):
I think the other part about it it's about the awkwardness,
is it's the nudity is part of it, but it's
also that like I haven't done that in a long time,
and I don't know what to ask these people in
those situations, Like I'm I feel like I'm pretty good
at one on one interviews when they come in here,
but when you're in that situation, like I don't really
care about the.

Speaker 2 (23:45):
Game, you know what I mean? So like I came,
what did you think of darre on third and one?

Speaker 5 (23:49):
Like I don't really, you know, I don't care, And
so that also is part of it.

Speaker 2 (23:52):
I'm kind of like, what do I ask these guys?
You know what I mean? Yeah, Plus I don't know
who's who That would be part.

Speaker 5 (23:58):
Like there's all those people in there, and except the
guys that played at UK, I don't know who they are.

Speaker 4 (24:03):
So it's like, don't they have their nameplates right about
their lockerdow?

Speaker 5 (24:05):
But sometimes they move around and you don't know. Yeah,
they do have the name if they're sitting in their locker,
I can guess who it is. But I mean if
they're not, I don't know who they.

Speaker 2 (24:14):
Are, you know, And they definitely don't know who we are.

Speaker 5 (24:16):
Yeah, they see billy shoes and they're like, you're not
supposed to.

Speaker 4 (24:22):
Be dressed to be in here.

Speaker 7 (24:23):
Yeah, I didn't appreciate all the Billy slander yesterday on
the show. A lot of Billy slander. He was just
doing his job being the GM.

Speaker 2 (24:29):
Yes on the lot.

Speaker 5 (24:30):
But I also think this was the best for Billy's
Q rating. This was the best trip that's happened. Yes,
it was very good. One person writes, mad I used
to go to the gym in Lexington a lot and
the person I saw who was most comfortable being nude
was Alan Cutler.

Speaker 2 (24:45):
No filter was the interviewing filter.

Speaker 7 (24:52):
There are some classic color stories of being in the
sauna and oh he's big on being nude. I never
saw it, never witness it, just heard stories.

Speaker 3 (25:01):
Well, the thing about the sauna, you're in, like in
an enclosed space with this person.

Speaker 2 (25:05):
Yeah, and you're not walking around.

Speaker 4 (25:06):
That kind of makes it worse. Though.

Speaker 2 (25:07):
He feels like to.

Speaker 5 (25:08):
Me, though I don't have anything, he feels like the
kind of guy who would be fine, just like I'm Cutler.

Speaker 2 (25:15):
No filter.

Speaker 6 (25:16):
I dabble in sauna's. I kind of like the towels
they give you. Maybe throw those. Yeah, I think the
towels are good. There's certain there's things, you know.

Speaker 2 (25:22):
One person.

Speaker 5 (25:22):
Rights are there any other times you almost got fired
besides Mitch McConnell and Cal Well McConnell. We did get
it was temporarily fired Cal. I think if Cal comes back,
maybe would have gotten fired. Uh.

Speaker 2 (25:38):
They threatened to fire me when I did Hey Kentucky.

Speaker 8 (25:42):
Yes, and it's.

Speaker 5 (25:45):
It's scared Ryan. Ryan started doing like he started. He
went on go Daddy, Is that the website?

Speaker 10 (25:52):
What?

Speaker 8 (25:54):
Uh?

Speaker 2 (25:54):
No, he went on zip recruiter all that, like he
was starting to be.

Speaker 7 (25:58):
It was just you and me in the car.

Speaker 5 (25:59):
I mean, and I were really mad that I decided
to do the TV show and didn't tell him.

Speaker 7 (26:04):
We pulled over the hotel into Hopkinsville.

Speaker 2 (26:06):
They told us to come home.

Speaker 7 (26:07):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (26:07):
We were our way to Hopkinsville to do a remote
and they told us to pull over and turn around
and come home.

Speaker 7 (26:13):
Yep.

Speaker 2 (26:14):
That the sketch.

Speaker 7 (26:14):
The scaredest I've been. I thought for sure it was
over that day.

Speaker 2 (26:18):
Yeah, and I was.

Speaker 7 (26:19):
I was hearing, you know, just half of the conversation,
So hearing your side of the conversation. Oh, it's done,
he is, he's in trouble.

Speaker 5 (26:25):
Yeah, well we got through it. Let's go to uh, Daniel,
go ahead, Daniel, Hi, guys.

Speaker 11 (26:34):
I'm just getting on Interstate seventy eight outside of Allentown
heading up to the game today.

Speaker 2 (26:40):
I've made that drive a lot. Where are you gonna park?

Speaker 5 (26:42):
That's always the question when you go to New York
is where are you gonna park your car?

Speaker 11 (26:48):
Oh, it's easy. There's a garage. I think it's thirty
first treat right across the streets in the Garden. I
think it's in the past. It's been a flight rate
of fifty dollars.

Speaker 9 (26:58):
It's really not that hard.

Speaker 2 (27:00):
So you're just gonna go.

Speaker 5 (27:01):
You're gonna literally drive into Midtown into the Garden area
and park there during rush hour.

Speaker 11 (27:11):
Well, I'm on my way now, so I'll be in
the city by like one o'clock.

Speaker 2 (27:16):
All right, Well, good luck, sir.

Speaker 5 (27:17):
I mean, there's no worst place in New York to
drive than around Madison Square Garden. And I think they're
doing like construction on Penn stations. So I love driving
in New York, even in the city. But like that's
the worst few blocks you could drive right now. So
I wish you the best in finding parking.

Speaker 11 (27:40):
Okay. I think the Michigan State Games a couple of
years ago was the later game. Okay, we're in the
early game today because I can. I'll get home by
like midnight. If we were in that late game, oh boy,
I don't want.

Speaker 2 (27:54):
To think about.

Speaker 5 (27:57):
But go ahead almost better.

Speaker 11 (28:00):
Better be a better game than last year as the
Garden because that was a stinker gate.

Speaker 2 (28:05):
Yes it was.

Speaker 5 (28:06):
I mean that was our last I appreciate the call,
and it looked like we didn't we're not doing any
of the go to Hambleton visit Jack Lugers Like, we're
not doing any of that stuff right now. It looks
like they realize that might not be the way to go.

Speaker 2 (28:19):
We're not throwing away our shot on this trip. You're
gonna be focused.

Speaker 6 (28:22):
A pro tip for anyone driving might be a little
late if you're on the road. I always park outside
of the city at one of the train stations.

Speaker 2 (28:29):
That's what everybody free parking. But you just hop on
for twelve bucks. Yeah, but whatever it is.

Speaker 5 (28:33):
That's a tough trip too, I mean, because you know
you got to get on the train. You gotta do
all that. I mean, that is a most people do that.
That park all the way back track on Jerseys money.
You're not gonna drive into the city because you're gonna
to pay fifteen dollars to just get into the city,
or twenty dollars and then he's gonna pay fifty for parking.
I'm just thinking about the traffic because it's a you know,

(28:56):
especially right there at the garden.

Speaker 2 (28:57):
It's it's awful. It's gonna be getting there.

Speaker 5 (29:00):
It is broad now Broadways a little farther up, but
you're gonna get like it's just gonna be bad.

Speaker 6 (29:04):
I have a trade station in Trenton, New Jersey. They
do oil changes and it's free parking, and you just
get on the train. Probably takes an hour, drops you
out of Penn station, leave your cart, well Lit, brings
you right back and drive on home.

Speaker 2 (29:15):
They do oil change. Yeah, you can get is that
whether you want it or not.

Speaker 6 (29:18):
If you want it, I lit, it's well lit cheap.

Speaker 2 (29:21):
You just pay them to get on the train.

Speaker 6 (29:23):
It's probably ten stops, I don't know, but takes you
all the way into the middle of the city.

Speaker 2 (29:26):
Who's up there, he's enough, Sparky, Sparky, go ahead, Sparky.

Speaker 10 (29:32):
Good morning, Matt. I've heard you talk a lot about
veggy trays and locker room munity, but I want to
switch topics for a minute and ask your comments on
Paul Feinbaumbs potentially running for Senate and what that would
do to the sports media landscape and if he does
that you think might end up filling some of that airtime.

Speaker 2 (29:52):
Well, I mean, I.

Speaker 5 (29:52):
From what I understand, just from the people that I've
talked to, I think it's very likely that he's gonna
do it. You know, good luck to him. I mean,
he's running in Alabama. Apparently he's now a Republican. That's
yet another person that was a Democrat that decided they
wanted to run so became a Republican.

Speaker 2 (30:12):
But you know, I don't know if he can win
or not. But I mean if he.

Speaker 5 (30:16):
Leaves, then you know that show, there's a couple people
I could see getting that show. I think the leaders
would probably be maybe Marty and McGee is, Cole Kubrick,
and Greg McElroy. I think those would be the ones
that I think would be most likely to get it.
That's just my own personal opinion. I mean, to me,

(30:38):
the obvious successor for him would be to do Marty
and McGee and I think I don't know if they
would want to do it or not. But that strikes
me as being the most because you know that they
have a connection with those folks, and honestly, probably would
be a good refresh to that show because those guys
are I love both those guys.

Speaker 2 (30:58):
So that's just my guess. Though.

Speaker 10 (31:03):
It's good to talk about the coaching domino effect. And
I'm wondering what the radio carousel will be, and you'd
have some insight.

Speaker 9 (31:08):
So look, well the radio I.

Speaker 5 (31:10):
Mean, yeah, that's that. That would be the I appreciate
the call. That would be the radio carousel to me.
People have asked about us, like, I think we're not
football centric. I think they would want someone football centric
for that show, and I think those guys would would
make the most sense.

Speaker 7 (31:26):
Marty and McGee. That's they kind of relate to that audience,
seems like the most. But you were maclroy and cole.
One's an Alabama guy. One's an Auburn guy. I can
see that kind of works.

Speaker 5 (31:34):
And they already have a show. Yeah right, they already
have a show. It's very successful. I'm on it quite
a bit as a guest.

Speaker 7 (31:40):
You might be invited back.

Speaker 2 (31:42):
Wow, Yeah, that's true. Many I'll get to go back
on those shows. A little bit.

Speaker 5 (31:46):
And uh, and I like both those guys a lot,
so I think they would do a great job.

Speaker 6 (31:50):
I like Cole a lot as much as I like
Marty and McGee. You want to get me to tune in,
I would tune in for Colekeepling.

Speaker 5 (31:54):
Would you be sad to see Fine Bomb Ghoshann And
I know you're a big.

Speaker 4 (31:58):
Oh so sad. It's like watch him paint dry watching
that show.

Speaker 2 (32:03):
But I mean, would you miss it?

Speaker 3 (32:04):
Like if I wouldn't miss it at all, we might
have to listen to it on the road trips at all.

Speaker 4 (32:08):
I mean that would be great.

Speaker 2 (32:10):
Yeah, uh, Senator five bah, good luck.

Speaker 5 (32:14):
I don't know. I mean I don't know who else is.
I don't know who else is going to run for that, but.

Speaker 7 (32:17):
Uh, yeah, he's your running against.

Speaker 5 (32:19):
But the problem is, I think I don't even know
what he thinks about anything, do you? I mean, I
don't know what he thinks about anything, Like State Michigan.

Speaker 4 (32:26):
He has a radio show and doesn't talk.

Speaker 11 (32:28):
I mean, he.

Speaker 5 (32:28):
Literally never gives his opinion about anything. The only her
opinion I've heard him say is that arch Maning would
be the best players since Tim Tebow.

Speaker 2 (32:35):
Maybe that's why he's leaving radio.

Speaker 5 (32:38):
So I don't know. I mean, but yeah, good luck
to him if he decides to do it. Let's go
to Isaiah. Go ahead, Isaiah, Hey, you can hear me, Yes,
go ahead.

Speaker 9 (32:50):
Hey, I think we might need to up Druids. And
I know Money. I wasn't too convinced he was gonna
come back. I thought he's gonna put Abby through a
table just to join the Bill's mafia.

Speaker 5 (33:00):
I've never seen anything like what he was like like
he he It's hard to describe.

Speaker 2 (33:05):
I'm trying to think what the thing like that would
be for me.

Speaker 5 (33:08):
But like you were in heaven and you were like
giddy and I it's it's what.

Speaker 2 (33:14):
I don't know why it was.

Speaker 5 (33:15):
I think it was the combination of it's good people
drinking tables.

Speaker 6 (33:22):
Well, I don't get to telgate. I genuinely missed tail game.
I love our pregame show, but it kills me. I
don't tailgate for any football games ever. So I got
to actually go out and tailgate, and I jumped all
the way in.

Speaker 9 (33:34):
Yeah, no, I agree, But there's nothing like bb Andrews.
I don't forget it. And also with tonight's game, against
this state. I feel like Brandon Garrison, this is kind
of like his life big game to say, you know,
I've improved over the off season, you know, give me
the minutes. Otherwise I could see Mark Pope turning Yellowch's.

Speaker 5 (33:52):
Yeah, Brandon Garrison, I think that's a good call. I
appreciate the call. I mean, on paper, this is a
game where Brandon gar Garrison matters a lot because he's physical.

Speaker 2 (34:02):
Hopefully they're physical.

Speaker 5 (34:05):
There's probably gonna be a lot of fouls down low.

Speaker 2 (34:08):
So I agree with you.

Speaker 5 (34:09):
I think if you're looking at Kentucky players that need
to have a big game, I would start with Brandon
Garrison and then Otegaway. This is another game in theory
that should be built for him because it's going to
be about finishing through contact and playing physical. So I
think both those guys need to have a good game.
If you're looking for a great holiday gift, get a
no Chay Linda gift card. They have a Black Friday deal.

Speaker 2 (34:40):

That's a heck of a saving.

We'll take a break and be right back Kentucky Sports Radio.
Welcome back, Tekey Sports Radio. I am bummed. I'm not there.
I mean, I go to New York a lot. I
love it. I think it would be fun to be there,
So I'm I'm bummed. And if we hadn't gone to Buffalo,

(35:24):
I would have gone. But uh, you know that's the
way it goes sometimes you sometimes you can this. We've
got a lot of stuff going on and I was
just there least like a week ago.

Speaker 2 (35:35):
Is gonna be excited?

Speaker 7 (35:36):
Yeah, our record in the chav Classic in New York though,
is not good though? Right?

Speaker 2 (35:40):
Ah? You know, I don't know.

Speaker 5 (35:43):
I mean we we we that one year that we
beat can I mean the wait a minute, we beat where?

Speaker 2 (35:48):
Where Where did we play Duke last year? Where was
that game? Was that in New York?

Speaker 5 (35:52):
At?

Speaker 2 (35:52):
It was in Atlanta? A right? So we beat Kansas
that one year by like.

Speaker 5 (35:55):
A thousand in New York right in like that? Well,
all these games maybe I just don't know where these
games are. Uh.

Speaker 7 (36:04):
The game that Jamal Murray had like thirty in the
second halfened.

Speaker 2 (36:07):
I Also, I wasn't the Champions Classic either.

Speaker 7 (36:08):
It wasn't Chamions Classic.

Speaker 5 (36:10):
Ohio State's not in the Champions Classic. That was a
CBS class. Last time we were in New York lost
to Duke. Okay, yeah, we beat him in Michigan State.
I know that. That was the only one I was at,
you know cal game a year there? Yeah, we played
Monmouth there one time, if you remember.

Speaker 6 (36:26):
Well, there's a confusion. We get smoked in the CBS
Classic in New York A lot. The Champions Classic hadn't
been good to us overall, but the CBS is where
we've lost to UCLA up there. Ohio State. Uh, it's
Ohio State twice. Yeah, it's the worst of the two.
Okay in New York, Yeah, in New York.

Speaker 2 (36:42):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (36:42):
Well we did break that little Champions Classic curse by
winning last year, so hopefully we can uh, you know,
we we can do that again. A Fi'm nine uh
two eight oh twenty two eighty seven on the text
machine is seven seven two seven seven four five two
five four. Let's talk just one second about the sort
of coaching carousel. James Franklin takes the job at Virginia Tech.

(37:04):
They owed him forty nine million dollars. The report is
that he settled the buy out for nine million so
he could coach it at Virginia Tech. Odd decision to me,
because now he's essentially coaching Virginia Tech for free. Basically,
I would have thought he could have gotten more than
the nine But he's basically coaching.

Speaker 6 (37:26):
For free now, and I would have done that maybe
at a different school. I'm not going to Blacksburg, Virginia
if I could just do anything else with all that money.
I'm sure he's got the competitive juices, but but Penn
State gets a huge, I mean a huge break.

Speaker 2 (37:40):
Let him off the hook.

Speaker 5 (37:41):
I mean they let him off the hook nine million dollars.
I don't know what he's making at Virginia Tech. I
don't think that's come out, but.

Speaker 7 (37:47):
Not nine million dollars, is it?

Speaker 2 (37:50):
Maybe?

Speaker 5 (37:51):
But I'm saying he gets so he was gonna have
five years forty nine million dollars. He takes nine. And
now he goes to Virginia Tech. If they pay him
eight a year, he's coaching for free. If they pay
him nine a year, he's coaching for a million dollars
a year. Just an interesting I would have thought he
could a buyout like that. I would have thought he

(38:13):
would have gotten like twenty to do it.

Speaker 7 (38:15):
And he could have got that at Penn State. Don't
you think if he just fought.

Speaker 5 (38:18):
It, maybe, well, but there wasn't anything to fight. If
he wanted to coach, he had to do the bile. Yeah,
but I'm just surprised he only got nine. Now, what
about the Lane Kiffin situation? This is interesting to me.
So Lane Kiffin's like apparently Shannon his family flew to
LSU like two days ago to look around Baton Rouge

(38:42):
and then somebody, I mean it was in Florida yesterday.
Maybe his family as well. So his family is looking
at the cities Baton Rouge in Gainesville. But who are
his family? I thought he had dated like a twenty
five year old girlfriend.

Speaker 2 (38:58):
He's got a daughter that's about that age, could be hers.

Speaker 7 (39:01):
The LSU football players.

Speaker 2 (39:02):
She can live anywhere she wants. Why does she have
to go look at these cities like she's a grown up?
I understand, I guess.

Speaker 6 (39:08):
So just the family that's looking, he's got a son,
they're all old enough. They're not gonna be living under
his So all.

Speaker 2 (39:14):
The people looking are not living there.

Speaker 6 (39:16):
I don't know the specific people going, but his kids
are getting pretty old. So check out elementary school.

Speaker 4 (39:21):
I think they're just looking out for dear old Dad.
They're starting you.

Speaker 5 (39:25):
But they're also making news. So old Miss comes out
yesterday and says, by the day of the egg Bowl,
which is a week from Friday, you gotta tell.

Speaker 2 (39:35):
Us are you here or not? Wow. So he's going
to have to before.

Speaker 5 (39:40):
What's interesting about that is that's before they're gonna make
the playoff, probably yeah, and he's gonna have to tell
old Miss I'm leaving or not before the playoff. And
then presumably let's say he says he's leaving, they're gonna
lame him coach the playoff.

Speaker 4 (39:56):
It's weird.

Speaker 6 (39:57):
If I were old Miss, they need to be rolling
out the red car in recruiting him, not giving him ultimatums.

Speaker 7 (40:02):
I agree with that they need to do everything they
can to keep him.

Speaker 6 (40:05):
They still have a puncher's chance, but I feel like
put him on a deadline and the ultimatum is only
going to push him further out.

Speaker 5 (40:12):
You're probably right, but let me play devil's advocate. If
you're old Miss. If he were to wait and do
the playoff and then leave, they won't have a team
next year. With the transfer port, they won't have a team. Yeah,
So is there a situation where he could go, Okay,
I'm gonna go to LSU, but if you want, I'll
coach the playoff and your new coach can recruit your

(40:33):
team next year.

Speaker 7 (40:36):
That's not a good scenario to be in at all.

Speaker 5 (40:39):
But he finish the playoff for the first time ever
and then not have him coach it.

Speaker 2 (40:45):
He's got to finish the year. He's in the National
Championship conversation off the goal.

Speaker 5 (40:49):
But if he says I don't, they're giving him the ultimatum.
Let's say he wants to go to LSU is old
Miss gonna tell him you can't coach his team.

Speaker 2 (40:57):
No, they can't do that. They're not big enough.

Speaker 6 (41:00):
They can't hand it to an interim for the playoffs
when they are truly a contingent.

Speaker 2 (41:03):
So you're gonna have l. S U's coach coaching your
team in the playoffs. Maybe, I mean, that's Kiffin's team.

Speaker 6 (41:07):
He wants a ring just as much as his players
finish the year.

Speaker 4 (41:11):
If I'm kiffing or if I'm old Miss.

Speaker 2 (41:13):
If I'm old Miss, I think you, Yeah.

Speaker 3 (41:15):
I wouldn't be giving him that ultimatum. I mean, the guy,
like you just said, has a chance to win a championship,
and you're gonna say, you got to give us an
answer now.

Speaker 5 (41:23):
So they So let's say that they the answers. No,
are you letting him coach the team in the playoffs?

Speaker 4 (41:29):
Yeah, absolutely, I am.

Speaker 3 (41:30):
He's our coach till the end of the season. Anyway,
at least it.

Speaker 6 (41:33):
Would be malpracticed to try out an interim when you're
in the playoff, right, old Miss.

Speaker 4 (41:37):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (41:37):
I mean any school, though, is dealing with this on
any given year. Potentially a coach can leave at any.

Speaker 7 (41:43):
Time throughout the whole playoff run. He's going to be
talked about as the next LSU head coach during the
preparation for the playoffs. You're right, he's recruiting for his
l s U team next year.

Speaker 2 (41:57):
Wow, So what do you think he does.

Speaker 4 (42:01):
Stays.

Speaker 2 (42:03):
I've always thought he would stay. In the long run.
I think he'll probably stay.

Speaker 5 (42:08):
But I mean, also, he's the kind of guy that
I mean at LSU, he would win everything.

Speaker 6 (42:14):
If I were picking, not staying, I would take l
s U over Florida ten times out of ten.

Speaker 2 (42:20):
Me too. Yeah.

Speaker 5 (42:21):
But it is wild though, And it's wild that his
family is taking private jets that can be tracked to
go visit these.

Speaker 7 (42:29):
Like Shannon said, they're the scout team. They're scouting stuff
out for him.

Speaker 5 (42:32):
Yeah, it's a wild situation. But you can't you can't
not have him coach the team if it goes to
the playoffs. I mean, he's got you.

Speaker 2 (42:40):
We'll take a break. I remember two Kry
