Welcome to two of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage.
Now Here's Matt Jones Water back.

Speaker 4 (01:05):
It is HANUB two Kentucky Sports Radio A five nine
two eight, twenty two eighty seven. Ks Bar has just opened.
If you want to come and see us, say hi,
we got folks here from all over and uh, trying
to get through the misery of us together. Here's what
in the world of not good timing. Tonight on CBS

(01:27):
Sports Network at six thirty, debuts behind the Scenes Home
Court with Mark Pope, A days in the Life of
Pope in his home life.

Speaker 5 (01:39):
Not the greatest timing in the world.

Speaker 2 (01:41):
It never fails. He's like, the timing on these things
are horrible.

Speaker 5 (01:45):
Yeah, well, I don't know your table.

Speaker 6 (01:49):
Trailer for that last night is just walking around his
neighborhood with Leanne just being happy.

Speaker 5 (01:53):
Yeah, well, you know that is what it is.

Speaker 4 (01:56):
Shannon was saying, we were trying to figure out, you know,
we're gonna be off for Thanksgiving next week, Thursday and Friday,
what show should we run? And we're and usually I
try to run like the best shows that have happened
in the fall, but the problem is we haven't had
a lot to celebrate. I think I would feel bad
playing the Purdue post game thing because that would look
kind of we probably would look kind of silly lap. Yeah,

(02:19):
premature eviculation. So I think maybe we will play the
after Pope was hired and after we beat Duke last year,
just to kind of, you know, have a Thanksgiving memory
of last year.

Speaker 2 (02:30):
Maybe.

Speaker 5 (02:31):
I don't know what else.

Speaker 6 (02:33):
Football and basketball have just been changing so quickly. Here
the highs and lows, the roller coaster we've been all
in both sports.

Speaker 5 (02:40):
Can I give you the uh?

Speaker 4 (02:41):
Can I give you a Matt Jones our number two
UH prediction bomb? Okay, and this is not this is
not scooped. This is just I was going to say
this either way today. I was hoping i'd be saying
it after a whim. I'm gonna make your prediction. This
will be Mitch Barnhart's last year's ad.

Speaker 2 (03:03):
WHOA, that is a Matt Jones bomb.

Speaker 5 (03:06):
That's my prediction.

Speaker 4 (03:08):
Yeah, it's not like a guarantee, but that's my That's
that's my prediction.

Speaker 2 (03:12):
You know that makes the decision about football coach even
more And they say.

Speaker 4 (03:16):
That makes it more interesting these next two weeks. Yes,
because if that's true, that he will not be the
a D after this year totally on his own accord.
By the way I know. I mean, this isn't this
is totally like I just think, he do you do
you hire? Like, if they were to decide to hire
a new coach, do you hire the guy if you're

(03:38):
not going to be.

Speaker 2 (03:39):
The one man can hire and walk away? Yeah, the
new A d should be the guy to hire the
new coach.

Speaker 4 (03:46):
And you may not need to hire a new coach,
but if for some reason you did.

Speaker 2 (03:51):
Mm.

Speaker 5 (03:51):
So that's my prediction.

Speaker 4 (03:53):
You can write it down in uh in in in
write it not in in eat pen, but in like
disappearing that's gonna be.

Speaker 5 (04:01):
That's my prediction.

Speaker 2 (04:02):
Wow.

Speaker 4 (04:03):
And I was I felt that way a few days ago,
but I kind of got to where I feel more
about it now.

Speaker 2 (04:09):
I didn't see that one coming.

Speaker 4 (04:10):
By the way, and I was sitting there thinking, he's
the only ida I've had since I was doing KSR. True, Like,
there hasn't been another ad since we've been doing this,
which is kind of crazy if you think about it.

Speaker 2 (04:22):
They hired him, what one was it one? They hired him?

Speaker 4 (04:25):
Oh so he's been so anyway, new Blood will be good.
I actually agree with you, even though I think he's
done a pretty good job.

Speaker 5 (04:35):
I think you're gonna need it. But anyway, just for
what that's.

Speaker 4 (04:38):
Worth, can we do a couple non UK basketball things
just to cheer up a little bit? Can I give
you my favorite story from yesterday?

Speaker 2 (04:44):
Okay?

Speaker 4 (04:44):
Yes, Well, first of all, Arkansas nearly lost to Winthrop.
If you saw the end of that game, Winthrop completely
blew it.

Speaker 5 (04:51):
It was gonna be.

Speaker 4 (04:52):
The one thing that I maybe I smiled about was
that cal Winthrop was up five with the ball with
a minute and fifteen seconds left kind of got screwed
on an out of bounds call that was off Arkansas,
but they replayed it and they didn't reverse it, which
I think was a mistake. Regardless, Arkansas gets a ball, scores,
cuts it to three. Win Throp misses a shot, scores

(05:14):
cuts it to one. Winterrop comes down, turns it over.
Arkansas comes gets a layup, takes the lead, and then
a complete melee fight breaks out like an insane fight,
and everyone is on the court. Four guys get kicked out,
the place goes nuts. But here's the best part of it.
Go watch the video. Everyone is out fighting, going, coaches

(05:37):
are breaking it up.

Speaker 5 (05:38):
One person does not move. Kenny Payne. Kenny Payne does
not move. He doesn't try to break it up.

Speaker 2 (05:45):
He doesn't.

Speaker 4 (05:46):
He's just like, I'm Kenny Payne and Louisville's still paying me,
and I'm good.

Speaker 5 (05:50):
Gott a tea time in the morning. I'm fine.

Speaker 4 (05:53):
It is one of the great it is, you know,
in a video of chaos, Kenny Payne is just like, yeah, whatever, man.

Speaker 6 (06:00):
Y'all do DJ got ejected. Yeah, because the people came
off the bench. Yeah, just stepping on that was a
crazy ending. I was hesitant to tweet about it or
even talk about it because we got our own problems. Yes,
but that was almost a horrible loss for them, and
it would have been I don't want to pile on DJ,
but he had two points and missed all his phield
goals and they're still Bringinglie Thomas off the bench.

Speaker 4 (06:19):
And by the way, Winthrop was one and three going
into that game, just for the record, So it wasn't
like they were crowd.

Speaker 5 (06:26):
No one there, boy, yeah, no one, no one there?
All right.

Speaker 4 (06:29):
The other thing this is this is better. Did you
see the picture of Bill Belichick last night?

Speaker 2 (06:35):
I didn't see yuh.

Speaker 5 (06:37):
Bill Belichick was spotted.

Speaker 4 (06:38):
Yesterday in Raleigh at an adult cheerleading competition that his
girlfriend was in. Jordan Hudson was competing in an adult
cheerleading competition and he was there first of all, points
for being the supportive boyfriend, right.

Speaker 2 (06:58):
Right, He's do what you gotta do.

Speaker 4 (07:00):
Sometimes it points for being a supportive I didn't know
adult cheerleading was a thing. I I don't know if
I would like to go to adult cheerleading just to
see who's doing it, or if I would like be
scared of the people that are doing it. The picture
showed men and women adult cheerleading. This is and it's

(07:22):
only somebody looked it up. It's only for people who
still want to cheerlead outside of college, but do not
cheerlead for a professional team.

Speaker 5 (07:30):
So it's a very niche group of people.

Speaker 1 (07:32):
It's like pick up cheerleading cheering for.

Speaker 5 (07:37):
I don't know.

Speaker 4 (07:38):
I think you go to the YMCA and cheer for
the teams playing at the MC.

Speaker 5 (07:42):
I'm in a church league of cheerleaders. We get together
on Wednesday nights and just cheer. So what do you
think about?

Speaker 4 (07:50):
First of all, let's say let's say you're dating someone.
Leave aside that it's you know, he's seventy one and
she's twenty five.

Speaker 5 (07:58):
Lead that aside.

Speaker 4 (07:58):
You're dating someone in and she is in pick up cheerleading,
Do you have to go?

Speaker 5 (08:05):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (08:05):
I think you gotta go. You gotta go be a
supportive significant other. Absolutely, it's important to her that it
should be important to you. Sometimes you have to go
to these things. Sometimes you have to go to a
Sean Castidy concert. Sometimes you have to go to adult
I don't think.

Speaker 5 (08:16):
Those are the same things.

Speaker 4 (08:17):
I mean, Sean Cassidy is embarrassing in a different way,
but it's not like it's not adult cheerleading.

Speaker 2 (08:22):
But we do the things as a good boyfriend, good
husband should do and he daddy's boyfriend.

Speaker 6 (08:27):
Now I was thrown off by adult cheerleading. The man
next to her in the photo, I think he was
working at Auto Zone this morning when I went and
got wifer blades. He looks like he's forty something he does,
so they're.

Speaker 2 (08:39):
All dolled up.

Speaker 5 (08:40):
Said night.

Speaker 4 (08:41):
If you're a general boyfriend, you have to go to
adult cheerleading.

Speaker 5 (08:45):
But if you're a celebrity, do you look at your
girlfriend and go.

Speaker 4 (08:48):
I cannot during the middle of the season be seen
at an adult cheerleading contest.

Speaker 5 (08:54):
We have a game Saturday. Things aren't going well for
my team.

Speaker 4 (08:58):
I'm sorry, I love you, but I'm going to have
to skip the adult cheerleading competition.

Speaker 5 (09:03):
Can you do that?

Speaker 2 (09:04):
Well? Maybe this was the only one of the season,
Maybe this was a big one. Maybe he felt like
this is his only chance. I gotta go. It's on
a Tuesday night. We got so are you going?

Speaker 5 (09:12):
Are you going?

Speaker 2 (09:13):
Yeah? I'm going?

Speaker 5 (09:14):
True? Are you going? Yeah? But I'm not Bill Belichick either, Shannon?
Are you going?

Speaker 3 (09:19):
That's the question about Bill Belichick or Shannon?

Speaker 4 (09:22):
That's good point, Shannon, Well, I mean you are Shannon
the dude in Kentucky.

Speaker 5 (09:27):
You are the dude. Yeah, you're going.

Speaker 3 (09:31):
I got other things going on tonight.

Speaker 2 (09:33):
Sorry, but if he doesn't go, he's probably getting slammed
for not going.

Speaker 4 (09:36):
In supporting No, there's not going to be a story
he didn't go to the adult cheerleading competition.

Speaker 5 (09:41):
I think that's good.

Speaker 4 (09:43):
If I were in this situation and in Kentucky, I'm going,
But a fake mustache.

Speaker 3 (09:51):
Must story because he did go.

Speaker 4 (09:53):
If he didn't, got a story about don't go, you
wouldn't even know it happened, right right?

Speaker 5 (09:58):
Yes? How about her? Though? She's a celebrity in her
own right.

Speaker 4 (10:03):
Can you imagine you're just in the Raleigh Adult cheerleading
League and she shows up to be in it. That's
gotta be the biggest thing to ever happen to Raleigh
adult cheerleaders.

Speaker 6 (10:12):
I'm watching their performance right now when I've watched this
last night.

Speaker 5 (10:16):
If she went to party, no, I.

Speaker 4 (10:17):
Would have never imagined Raleigh had enough adult cheerleaders that
they would.

Speaker 2 (10:21):
Have a league.

Speaker 4 (10:22):
Yeah, a bowling league, I would think, but an adult
cheerleading league.

Speaker 6 (10:26):
I not apologize to my car mechanic. He's actually got
some moves here. They're pretty good. I expected it to
be much worse now they are pretty good. Yeah, sorry
about that.

Speaker 2 (10:32):
Well they're flipping people everywhere.

Speaker 5 (10:34):
Wow, well, good for them. And and Bill was there.
Who's up next? LEVI go ahead? Hello, Yes, go ahead.

Speaker 7 (10:45):
I had just one comment and then a question.

Speaker 5 (10:49):
Okay.

Speaker 7 (10:51):
I don't know if it's you guys kind of referred to.
I don't know if it's roster construction or just the
rotation Pope is putting out there, but I kind of
feel like last off season, he by the time he
hit the portal hold on sorry, by the time he
hit the portal, a lot of the top talent was gone. Yeah, yeah,

(11:15):
probably my father's running around crazy. I'm gonna get to it.
By the time he got to the portal, a lot
of the top talent was gone. And uh, I think
this off season, uh he kind of just uh I
thought he had a stuck Pyle talent rather than.

Speaker 5 (11:31):
Uh, well he did have to stop. I mean, let's
be real.

Speaker 4 (11:36):
The guys that have played the best, I mean, Aberdeen
has probably been our best, you know, guy Diabat. So
it's actually and I appreciate the call the returners who've
been disappointed. You know, for all the people that complain,
oh it's the portal, it's in il our portal. Guys
are doing okay. It's our returners that are struggling. Oway

(12:00):
and Garrison are struggling. Low got hurt, but I mean
Cam Williams struggled some.

Speaker 2 (12:08):
Of the year. Thing to not get better. They got worse.

Speaker 5 (12:12):
But like.

Speaker 4 (12:14):
I mean, we've seen nothing from Noah Owayen Garrison got worse.
I mean, Chandler's played well. So really Chandler's the only
returner who's really played well.

Speaker 2 (12:24):
When Pope has preached the players take a step up
in year two in his system, three of the four
guys seem to have taken a step back in this system.
So just so far, so far.

Speaker 4 (12:34):
I mean, if you were to say, Okay, Matt, who
are you really pleased with how they've played? I would
say the only person that has performed higher than I
thought they would is Malachi Moreno, and then Chandler has
been kind of what I thought he would.

Speaker 5 (12:50):
He's been good. I expected him to step up and
he's been good.

Speaker 4 (12:53):
But if we're being honest, and I know it's early,
Aberdeen's been all right, although a lot of airballsways been
a disappointment. Garrison's been a disappointment. I think Jasper has
not been great. He's had moments, but then not he
took he took a couple of bad shots yesterday. Yelevick's
been pretty good, I guess, not maybe what I thought

(13:15):
he was gonna be because I kind of didn't think
he would play. Cam's kind of been a disappointment except
for that little run against Louisville.

Speaker 2 (13:22):
So Malachi had the best plus minus and players have
played twenty minutes or more than.

Speaker 4 (13:27):
Malachai would be our MVP right now in my opinion,
I mean, Aberdeen probably would win it because he scored
the most points. But if you're just telling me who's
been better relative to my expectation, it would have been Malaka.

Speaker 2 (13:37):
Tyfer team high four rebound, ty for team high three assists.

Speaker 5 (13:41):
I mean that's a bad sign. By the way, Ty
for a team high four rebound.

Speaker 2 (13:45):
Those a team high. Two of those were offensive rebounds.

Speaker 5 (13:48):
You know when your most rebounds are four, that's a
bad sign.

Speaker 6 (13:52):
Well that's that's why Garrison, it's it's time to sit.
You've had plenty of opportunities to prove you can rebound,
and you're not doing it. And they needed bad. Chandler
is still shooting fifty two percent from three on almost
forty attempts, and like fifty five percent from the field.
I mean, he makes mistakes. He had some bad fouls
last night that were, you know, far from the basket.
He's far from perfect, but he's the only one making shots.

Speaker 4 (14:13):
He's been good. He's been good, by the way. So
do you all think if we don't get low back,
can this be turned around?

Speaker 6 (14:26):
I still think so. And now you know me, I'm
not the guy that brings up the money, but this
is a deep roster to be able to withstand injuries.
I know that's the one spot where you don't have
a true too deep, but you still have plenty of
bodies to not be down by twenty four and twenty
in your first two meaningful games.

Speaker 2 (14:44):
I don't like the offense as much with Aberdeen running
the point though. It seems to be out of sync
and it's not as efficient. And then as we saw
the light go on, it's the minute Low stepped on
the floor. So I took out some issues about the
offensive execution with the Aberdeen being our guy.

Speaker 4 (14:57):
Is payn stiffness or a numbing sensation been? And you
from enjoying watching your favorite teams compete? Oh, yes, you
didn't have to say it was such sensuality.

Speaker 2 (15:07):
Yes.

Speaker 4 (15:08):
Listen to how Court Physical Therapy can help. For over
thirty years, Court's beIN Kentucky's go to physical therapy group.

aches and pains and get back to what they love.
It's court dot com. You you may have met your

Speaker 2 (15:26):
He looks good? Is that a burger.

Speaker 5 (15:27):
Did you get a burger? I thought you told me
you were getting vegetarian.

Speaker 2 (15:31):
You got the veggie burger, which is really good.

Speaker 5 (15:34):
It's good, yes, vegibar.

Speaker 4 (15:35):
I was just about to say you you playing the
role of vegetarian and then you don't do it.

Speaker 5 (15:40):
I understand. We'll take a break and right back. This
is KSR.

Speaker 4 (15:44):
Welcome back, TEKEI Sports Radio uh A five nine two
eight oh twenty two eighty seven. Text machine is seven
seven two seven seven four five two five four one
person rights Matt, who would have predicted three weeks ago
the football would be on the upswing and we would.

Speaker 5 (15:58):
All be down on basketball. Well that is a massive change.

Speaker 4 (16:01):
I mean, imagine after the Purdue game, US saying that
Mark Pope would be getting criticism and Mark stubs people
going well maybe, I mean, you know, we'll see what happens.

Speaker 2 (16:12):
Yeah, coming off the Tennessee blowout loss at football, then
you beat Purdue number one in basketball.

Speaker 4 (16:17):
That was that was two days like that was what
he has a weekend. Right we played Purdue on Friday
and Tennessee on Saturday. Imagine on Sunday, I would have
told you three weeks later this.

Speaker 5 (16:27):
Is where we would be.

Speaker 6 (16:28):
And then on Thursday they brought the annabel doll on
to Reparena and we lost to Georgetown the next day
and nothing's been right since.

Speaker 2 (16:33):
That's the answer, the Annabelle doll.

Speaker 5 (16:35):
Oh you think it's the Annabelle.

Speaker 6 (16:37):
Yeah, the day before the Georgetown game.

Speaker 2 (16:38):
You made fun of it. See, you don't mess around
with stuff like that.

Speaker 6 (16:42):
I mean, the BB and United tip Off Classic Present
about Kentucky tourism was fun, but it's no laughing matter
anymore because we absolutely sucked against Georgetown, Louisville and Michigan State.

Speaker 5 (16:51):
Shane, do you think it was the annabel doll?

Speaker 3 (16:52):
That's your fault for openly mocking her?

Speaker 2 (16:55):
Yep?

Speaker 5 (16:56):
On the Airfess, don't say openly. I didn't. I'm not
the one who brought the doll about her?

Speaker 3 (17:01):
He said, yeah, right, the stupid doll. Then we lost,
and then our players got hurt too.

Speaker 2 (17:07):
That's when Lowe got hurt.

Speaker 5 (17:10):
Night he got hurt. Low did get hurt that night,
didn't he?

Speaker 2 (17:14):
He did?

Speaker 3 (17:15):
And that started this whole thing.

Speaker 5 (17:17):
Yeah, Anible got hurt in the No I rolled his ankle.
Low got hurt in the Blue White game. Was that
that was the week before. That was a week before,
but uh yeah, I mean things haven't been good since then.

Speaker 4 (17:32):
Real quick, just a second about football. I mean, are
you Vandy in three days? Do you think we can win?

Speaker 6 (17:39):
Is Pabi gonna be there or is he going to
be in a UFC fight with THEO Vaughn and Cam
s Kataboo.

Speaker 2 (17:43):
That dude is never in Nashville anymore. It makes me
think maybe his head is elsewhere. Maybe they gotta go
out and they have makes Maybe he'll make some mistakes.
What happens if we.

Speaker 5 (17:52):
Win that game? Like, seriously, what happens if we win?

Speaker 6 (17:56):
If we were going into the Louisville game, we're winning
the little game, they'd be's gonna build a statue at
Mark stupid or not?

Speaker 4 (18:02):
You got to stop with the statues. We're not building
the statue. I don't know where this somehow you I think.

Speaker 5 (18:07):
It's your fault.

Speaker 4 (18:08):
Somehow we've gotten associated with this building a statue thing.
I don't think we ever said we were built. I
don't think I never said poops, and I never said
anybody's building this statue.

Speaker 2 (18:18):
But you did make fun of Annabelle, and we're gonna.

Speaker 5 (18:20):
Blame make fun of Annabelle.

Speaker 3 (18:21):
Yeah, but what is that same night, By the way,
it was that same night that he got injured, that
the Annabell.

Speaker 4 (18:28):
Annabelle Dolls the same night as the Blue White game,
which was the week before. Okay, Shannon's right, it was
the night because remember that's why I mean we did
we played the Blue White game at Memorial, which is
why they were able to do it.

Speaker 6 (18:43):
We can't blame her then if they destroyed Perdue after that.

Speaker 3 (18:46):
Neither didn't count. She knew that she was just playing
with her emotions.

Speaker 5 (18:49):
I'm just I'm gonna go back to blaming Pope. Okay,
what about people who are saying that that Mark Pope.

Speaker 4 (18:56):
If you look at games against Power for conference opponents,
our last games against power for conference opponents were twelve
and twelve.

Speaker 2 (19:07):
Is that? Where are you? Well? Last year, off of
our non conference Power four appoints, we only lost one game, right, No,
we lost two lost two we lost to That's right. Well,
we thought last night was supposed to be the easiest
of these non conference Power four games this year, and
we got one off the floor.

Speaker 4 (19:28):
Yeah, I mean, what happens if I mean we still
you gotta we play North Carolina, Indiana, Gonzaga, and Saint
John's Gonzaga, who looks really good right now? Now two
of those games are at home. But what if we
lose all these games? I mean, is there a world where,
like I don't want to bring this upisode, where where
we don't make the NCA.

Speaker 5 (19:49):
I mean that that world exists. I think that's still unlikely.

Speaker 2 (19:52):
But if you go through that slay without one of.

Speaker 5 (19:55):
Those games, do you feel like we're definitely gonna win?

Speaker 2 (19:58):
Indiana probably the next most winnable game. I would think
of those, I mean, we.

Speaker 5 (20:05):
Got to win some of these games. We can't lose
them all.

Speaker 2 (20:08):
I can tell you that if we lose all six,
I think most of us thought we'd have two, maybe
three losses going into conference play. Now we're looking in.

Speaker 5 (20:16):
I mean, I look at.

Speaker 4 (20:18):
These next four and go you get North Carolina, Indiana, Gonzaga,
and uh John Saint John's. Like if if I if
I told you now, I can promise you X wins
and you'll be happy two two of the four, I
take it. Would you rather have two guaranteed wins or
roll the dice and play them all?

Speaker 2 (20:39):
I'm after last night, I'm taking two guaranteed.

Speaker 5 (20:41):
Who I think I'm taking two guaranteed wins.

Speaker 2 (20:43):
Give me North Carolina and Indiana at home. Gonzaga's in Nashville,
Saint John's in Atlanta, and we can kind of maybe
blow those off a little bit.

Speaker 3 (20:51):
What do you think I would probably take the two
right now?

Speaker 2 (20:54):
I mean I would take the two.

Speaker 3 (20:55):
Indiana's only played Marquette, but they did beat them by
twenty three on the road.

Speaker 4 (20:59):
Yeah, I don't think any of these games, well, I
don't think I thought Michigan State was.

Speaker 2 (21:05):
Gonna be Those are the easiest one of all of them, right, so,
and we got run off the floor.

Speaker 6 (21:11):
Well, I keep thinking about, Yes, it was nice beating
Duke and Gonzaga last year, but it seems like in
every big game we've played, they've gone down and been
down big at halftime. Now, it's great that they come back,
but we can't just expect to have comeback. And every
single significant going through.

Speaker 4 (21:26):
First half double digit deficits in the Mark Pope era, Duke, Gonzaga, Clemson,
Ohio State, all the non conference games last year of
meaning we were down double digits in the first half,
all of them, every one of them twice to Alabama Arkansas.

Speaker 6 (21:47):
Hold on, how about going to Old Miss and you're
not even in it in the first half. Yeah, that
game was over before halftime.

Speaker 4 (21:52):
But even I'm just saying marquee opponents Alabama, Old Miss,
Arkansas in a C in the NCAA Tournament, Louisville this year,
Michigan State. That's like ten marquee games, and we won
a couple of them. But that's ten marquee games where

(22:14):
we've been down double digits in the first.

Speaker 6 (22:16):
Half, down fifteen at Georgia at halftime, down god knows
what Old Miss, not just the market games.

Speaker 2 (22:22):
So let's let's just choose last night as example. I
heard somebody on your postgame shows said they weren't ready
to play. They came out, they were ready to play.

Speaker 4 (22:28):
It was But you know the pattern in all of
those games, though, is we come out ready to play.
This is why I said the mass substitution. Yep, we
come out ready to play.

Speaker 5 (22:37):
Go back to Duke, go back to Louisville, Michigan State,
go back to all these games. It's like Todd or
we have the lead, we do the mass substitution.

Speaker 2 (22:47):
We're down ten, right, And that's exactly what happened last night,
mass substitution. Next time I look up, we're down to
fourteen points.

Speaker 6 (22:53):
Down fourteen at half time to Vanday.

Speaker 5 (22:55):
Last year a Louisville games. In the Louisville game, we pulled.

Speaker 4 (23:00):
Early, put Low in, We go on a run. Then
they took Low out and they put in all five
subs and we got down ten.

Speaker 2 (23:08):
So, but you know that's his way. He coacheslytic.

Speaker 4 (23:11):
Some things make but what analytic is saying start every
game down ten? I can't imagine there's an analytic telling
him that's correct.

Speaker 2 (23:19):
Nope, that's what Cal did with reading Rob on the bench.

Speaker 5 (23:21):
Yeah. I believe he likes analytics. But some point the
numbers say what they do. We'll be right back. TJ. Smith,
personal injury attorney called TJ. He'll make them pay.

Speaker 2 (23:32):
Now.

Speaker 3 (23:33):
More of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage. Here's
Matt Jones.

Speaker 4 (23:37):
Welcome back, Tukey Sports Radio Aff nine two twenty two
eighty seven. One person says Matt, with Kentucky playing two
bad opponents coming up, don't you change the lineup and
get guys like Moreno and Jasper more minutes against these teams?

Speaker 5 (23:51):
Maybe?

Speaker 4 (23:52):
Certainly certainly Moreno, I need to see more from Jasper
before I'm ready to say.

Speaker 5 (23:57):
Because I don't. I mean, and the reality is, if
Owa doesn't play well this year, we're just gonna stink.
So I don't think like not.

Speaker 4 (24:05):
I don't think benching Oway does us any good, because
without him we're not gonna be good. But I do
think you can substitute Garrison. You can substitute Marino for Garrison.

Speaker 2 (24:15):
Beyond think about Jess maybe be better. Jess may have
taken a bad shot, but he in nine minutes, he
had a team high three assists him Reno both had
three assists. Those two guys, I think he is a
good facilitator that maybe he does deserve more minutes. For
that reason.

Speaker 4 (24:28):
Only one person rights, Matt, You and Drew did whole
shows saying we should build a statue for stoops.

Speaker 5 (24:35):
That narrative started with KSR your line. If you say otherwise,
I mean, no, you're line. First of all, I don't
think I ever said we should build a statue.

Speaker 4 (24:44):
I may have said it like metaphorically, but I certainly
did A didn't do a whole show. Say let's feel
I didn't like do a fundraiser saying, let's build a
statue for Stoops.

Speaker 5 (24:56):
So and I don't think Drew did either.

Speaker 6 (24:58):
Actually, I still think that should recognize Stoops to the
stadium that hasn't changed. Maybe not a statue of him
waving in front. I still think they should do something.
Best coach you've ever had, he.

Speaker 5 (25:09):
Like, what would you do if you wouldn't do a statue?

Speaker 4 (25:11):
Let's say he let's say he finishes six and six
and then he retires or moves on.

Speaker 5 (25:16):
What would you do eventually? Direct?

Speaker 6 (25:18):
It would need a little time, but we can't act
like he didn't take us to heights we'd never been
to before.

Speaker 2 (25:23):
So what would you do? Like maybe that recruiting room
in the end zone, maybe call it the Mark Stoops
recruiting Room or something.

Speaker 6 (25:28):
You know, he needs something, just like I think John
Caliperry needs something. I mean, they both have done great things.
I'm not saying they need to be the have their
name on the arena or have this gigantic like the
Michael Jordan statue at the United Center, but I think
they should be recognized in tom in some form.

Speaker 5 (25:43):
Stoops will one day beyond the thing where we have
with the names.

Speaker 2 (25:47):
Yeah, I'd go.

Speaker 5 (25:48):
Bigger than that, though.

Speaker 2 (25:49):
I mean, we named a road after how Mummy how
Mummy pass.

Speaker 5 (25:53):
That's true, but it's not named that now. Uh.

Speaker 4 (25:55):
One person rights, what's more likely we win our in
the next four non conference games against Indiana, Carolina, Gonzaga,
and Saint John's.

Speaker 5 (26:04):
Or we beat Vandy and Louisville and football.

Speaker 3 (26:08):
I'm gonna go beat and Louisville and Louisboy football.

Speaker 4 (26:12):
To be honest with you, I think it's probably more likely,
which is crazy to think we would have like we
wouldn't have said that two weeks ago.

Speaker 5 (26:19):
But I actually think it is.

Speaker 2 (26:21):
That's right if you'd asked this question a couple weeks ago.
I'm thinking there's no way our football team can pull
this off now with what's happening with Vandy and Louisville's
kind of trending the other way. Absolutely, those games seem
more winnable than win those four basketball games.

Speaker 6 (26:34):
I think the last two basketball losses are worse than
just maybe the Tennessee football loss. But the football team
hasn't been winning. We know that, but they were in games.
You were down twenty four to Michigan State team they
name score a lot of points.

Speaker 5 (26:46):
In twenty to Louisville.

Speaker 2 (26:47):
That's worse than what the football team was doing. To me. Yeah,
the defensive strategy to let them shoot three pointers last
night was not a good defensive strategy.

Speaker 4 (26:54):
One person rights, Matt, What if we have a bad year,
do you think that affects the amount of money people
would give for INIOL for future years.

Speaker 5 (27:04):
That's hard to say.

Speaker 2 (27:05):
I mean.

Speaker 8 (27:07):
No, but.

Speaker 5 (27:10):
You know, I don't know. That's hard to say.

Speaker 4 (27:12):
First of all, there won't be as much money next
year just because you're not getting the double dip. Remember this,
the kids who played basketball this year got an advantage
that no other year will get. They got paid from
two sources. They got paid the unlimited private money from
the old system and the rev share from this system.

(27:33):
In the future, that's not gonna happen. So in the
future it's gonna be like, No, there's never gonna be
more money than was in the sport this year. So
I think inevitably the answer to that question is no,
but it won't be the same. But I do think
that Kentucky basketball will always be able to raise money.

Speaker 2 (27:53):
In my opinion, yes, they were raising money long before NIOL.
They're gonna raise a lot of money after this. Yeah,
and like we said, Jasper, you know, maybe a two
year deal. Malachi is maybe a two year deal. Two
year deal.

Speaker 4 (28:04):
By the way, something I Mitch Barnhart. I think this
is something people should know. A lot of people don't know.
This is in the contract. The contract for Mitch Barnhart
says beginning July first, twenty twenty six.

Speaker 5 (28:17):
Now, remember that's next year.

Speaker 4 (28:20):
Barnhart can within with six months notice, elect to step
down from the role of athletics Director, at which time
he would assume the position of Special Assistant to the
President for two years at a salary of eight hundred
thousand dollars annually. Now, what is six months before July first,
twenty twenty six?

Speaker 5 (28:42):
January?

Speaker 2 (28:45):
What February first?

Speaker 5 (28:48):
Is it January February? It's January.

Speaker 2 (28:50):
January.

Speaker 5 (28:50):
It's January. Yeah, you had me. I was like, that's
a terrible answer, But then you had such confidence.

Speaker 4 (28:55):
I didn't know January first, So you know, the timeline
of he could say on January first, I'm stepping down,
and then they spend time figuring it out, you know,
just not saying I'm just saying that provision which gives
him eight hundred thousand dollars a year to.

Speaker 5 (29:14):
Do nothing, which, by the way, is an interesting provision
A lot of people didn't rise was probably in there.

Speaker 4 (29:20):
It's exciting we have a Hey, here's eight hundred thousand
dollars to hang out.

Speaker 5 (29:25):
That provision kicks in with notice January.

Speaker 4 (29:29):
First, so he could come out January first and say
I'm finishing the year as ad We're gonna go on
a search. But then I'm done, and then that starts.
I'm not saying, I'm just saying, and.

Speaker 2 (29:42):
Then he would still kind of be around for the
new coaching regime that maybe he's if they make a change,
if he brings in somebody new.

Speaker 4 (29:49):
But it is awkward to do that and hire a coach.
I mean, you're gonna have to hire a coach who
kind of knows you're not gonna be his boss. How
many coaches come work and they don't know who they're basing?

Speaker 5 (30:00):
True, you know, I don't know. Maybe there's a lot,
but but that's so. I just think that's a provision
people should know is in the UH, is in the contract?
Who's next?

Speaker 9 (30:09):
Lee?

Speaker 2 (30:10):
Lee?

Speaker 5 (30:10):
Go ahead?

Speaker 9 (30:11):
Lee, Good morning, KSR. And Hey, Matt on the Belichick
think no comment. Mitch his time to go, and obviously
he made his own contract along with cal Ferries and Stoops.
And uh, I've got a couple of things obvious about

(30:31):
UK and then one thing about last night's game. The
two things obvious, and I think I've heard somebody says
before the volleyball team is the best team and the
best coach of the UK.

Speaker 5 (30:41):
Yes.

Speaker 4 (30:42):
By the way, on the volleyball thing, Craig Skinner was
just named UH SEC Coach of the Year. Eva Hudson
was just named SEC Player of the Year. H Skinner
has won the SEC Coach of the Year three times.
Kentucky has now had the player of the Year in
the conference four times in the last five years, so
UH congratatives him.

Speaker 9 (31:01):
And still the only team in the SEC to win
the national championship and they're gonna get another one this year.

Speaker 8 (31:06):
Uh.

Speaker 9 (31:06):
The other thing that's obviously is that uh Pope kind
of got a kind of got a pass on losing
COL last year. But I think the honeymoon's way over
by now, So it's that's the other thing. And last
night I sat there. I've been a lifelong friend and
I still don't think the season is dead but last
night's analogy, I looked at it looked like a ship

(31:30):
without a rudder, no idea what to do. When they
showed him, he was standing there thinking, and it looked
like he was going, maybe I should have practiced.

Speaker 5 (31:43):
We lost right there. I appreciate the call ship with
I agree with that analogy.

Speaker 4 (31:48):
A ship without a runner, I would add, and a
captain who looks like he has scurvy, you know.

Speaker 2 (31:57):
And just in the pregame, the way the game comments,
his voice sounded horse like, you know, like he did
sound horse So I don't know, is that from maybe
he's screaming.

Speaker 3 (32:06):
Maybe screaming you're saying it looks like he had fatigue,
gum disease and easy bruising.

Speaker 4 (32:11):
That scurvy Why I had gum disease? But I do
think he had fatigue and looked like he could be
easily Is that like I think it's like a lack
of vitamin C?

Speaker 5 (32:22):
Right, is scurvy?

Speaker 9 (32:24):
Is that what it is?

Speaker 2 (32:26):
Is it?

Speaker 7 (32:26):
What b d?

Speaker 5 (32:29):
Okay, it's a lack of vitamin D.

Speaker 4 (32:31):
I know it's something about you're not getting nutrients because
they get it out on ships. And it does seem
like our team is not getting their nutrients at least
their basketball So need the checks.

Speaker 2 (32:40):
Gums, Maybe he doesn't.

Speaker 5 (32:42):
Gums, don't be weird. Who's next? Mark? Mark? Go ahead?

Speaker 2 (32:47):
Mark?

Speaker 5 (32:50):
What's up?

Speaker 8 (32:52):
Hey? Real quick? Hey, I've got a couple of things
that I think I see as the root cause one
this roster constructions. Well, we have one of the tallest
teams and we can't get offensive rebound to save our soul.

Speaker 5 (33:04):
That's true. Yeah, that is a good point. We have
got we have to have the most height.

Speaker 4 (33:09):
Maybe not against Michigan State they have a lot of height,
but against most teams, we have a lot of height
and we do not get rebounds, which is a problem.

Speaker 5 (33:15):
But go ahead.

Speaker 8 (33:17):
Second thing is, which I think is the root of
the true problem, in my opinion, is kind of piggyback
on last week. We're talking about elite talent. And the
reason why I say this, I think we have a
team made up of average to above a lot of
average to above average players, and we went into the
portal got these guys, and the way I look at
it is elite talent. When they get to UK, they say, hey,

(33:42):
I'm on the biggest age, but they want something more.
They want the NBA. These guys have actually hit their
lottery ticket when they got the UK.

Speaker 4 (33:49):
Yeah, but you'll say that, then how do you explain
last year? Okay, because I look at it as last year.
We're a lot of guys like that. They hit their
lottery ticket going to the UK, but they wanted to
prove they deserve to be here. So I don't think
that's I actually think guys like a Jayalen Lowe.

Speaker 5 (34:11):
Are kind of guys you kind of want because they,
in theory appreciate being here, Whereas I mean.

Speaker 4 (34:17):
Let's be real, the two most disappointing players I want
to keep, everybody can blame and I own the portal
you want, who are the most two most disappointing players
taking the two guys who are returning, I don't know
how you can blame the portal when are two players
that are struggling the most are our returners.

Speaker 8 (34:35):
But these guys, I think they're all complain I see
maybe two, possibly three NBA players on that enough to
say that's the end.

Speaker 2 (34:42):
All.

Speaker 4 (34:42):
I said that all guys right now, I said that
all summer I got I've gotten roasted for two years
for saying we don't have NBA players.

Speaker 5 (34:49):
We don't.

Speaker 8 (34:51):
We don't these guys right now there you talk about
playing on for the front of the jersey or the
back of their I think they've already played for the
back of the jersey because right now they're making great money.

Speaker 5 (35:01):
Okay, But I'm just.

Speaker 4 (35:02):
I'm not gonna let I'm not gonna listen to people
blame this stuff on the inn ail.

Speaker 5 (35:07):
The rest of these teams are playing well, Okay.

Speaker 8 (35:10):
I mean issue though, Matt, it's it's a it's effected
the issue of like, for instance, a Dizel Aberdeen. He
was great at Florida last year, but he was a
fiss option. We're asking him to be our best or second.

Speaker 4 (35:23):
But that's a different point. Though, that's a different point
that they may not be good enough. But you're saying
they've already hit their lottery tickets so they don't care.
I don't believe that. I don't believe that saying they
don't care.

Speaker 8 (35:34):
I'm just saying the drive they've already reached, they're probably
the pinnacle as far as playing basket.

Speaker 5 (35:40):
Then how do you explain Kobe Braya?

Speaker 4 (35:41):
Then how do you explain Kobe Brea, Maury Williams and
all those guys who reached.

Speaker 5 (35:45):
Their pinnacle last year and played great. How do you
explain that.

Speaker 8 (35:51):
A good point?

Speaker 5 (35:52):
Okay, I mean, I appreciate the call. I'm just saying
we steam right now.

Speaker 4 (35:56):
But to make systematic, like systematic declarations based on the
fact we steak ignores that last year we had a
team just like this that played their tail off and
they reached their maximum potential and they just weren't good enough,
but they played as hard as they could.

Speaker 2 (36:15):
Drew.

Speaker 4 (36:16):
This team is not playing as hard as they can
and they're not reaching their maximum potential.

Speaker 5 (36:20):
And that's what's frustrating.

Speaker 6 (36:22):
And you know that about the two biggest disappointments. It
was already kind of a gamble bringing Brandon Garrison out
back to be your starting center. A lot of people
didn't want that, but you think, all right, if he
just takes a step forward, maybe he can get close
to what they need. But at your starting center, and
what's the averaging like five points four rebounds, that's a
guy who prioritized That's one of many problems with Oway
being the other leader. He has not been anything close

(36:44):
to the SEC preseason Player of the.

Speaker 2 (36:46):
Year and the whole team, the whole roster was built
around Jalen Lowell being your point guard and your best
player and the facilitator, and you rip him out and
they've just not found a way to recover from that yet.

Speaker 4 (36:56):
But yes, I agree with that, but I don't don't
care if you have jail and low or not. You
shouldn't have gotten that result you got last night. No,
you should still inexcusable and.

Speaker 6 (37:06):
Low played at louisll when they were getting smoked. I
know you had just come off the injury, but you
know he was part of the problem there late in
the game.

Speaker 4 (37:12):
Well, I would argue late, but I would argue we're
not even in that game without jail and Lowe. At Louisville,
he did make the turnover and the bad decisions late.
Serf pros and number one choice and clean up in restoration,

Speaker 5 (37:26):

Speaker 5 (37:28):
They make it like it never even happens. You had
a fire. And then what Serve pro do.

Speaker 2 (37:32):
They came out and redid everything, They did their clean up,
they did their reconstruction from start to finish. It was
all Serve pros. I have the fire of the flood.
They did the fire, the flood. They called to check
on me after they heard us talking about my basement flooding.
So their customer services top notch.

Speaker 5 (38:14):
You wanted.

Speaker 4 (38:15):
We wanted to note the passing of former Kentucky football
player Randy Burke.

Speaker 2 (38:20):
Yeah, he was a receiver in the eighties and at
the ear eies seventies it wren an there where they
didn't throw the ball much, and yet he was a
first round draft pick of the Baltimore Colts. I got
to know him when he was working at the sales
department over Channel twenty seven. To be KYT just really
involved with the community, really involved with UK. Just a
super super guy, and I was saddened to hear the

(38:40):
news that he had passed away.

Speaker 5 (38:41):
This first round pick.

Speaker 4 (38:42):
Only that like only had like a very small amount
of catches at UK, but went to the Senior Bowl,
crushed it and ends up being a first round pick
passed away at You said you knew.

Speaker 6 (38:53):
Yeah, I know him a little bit too, knew some
some of his family. First met him when I was
working at Malon's. I waited on him, but then did
some events with him too, So, like Ron, I was
very surprised and saddened to see that news last night.

Speaker 2 (39:03):
I give one more shout out if you would like
Gary Kidwell, longtime sports guy up at Lewis County, famous
in that part of the state. He also recently passed away.
Just a super guy, always at Upperna, always up in
the press box at Crogerfield.

Speaker 5 (39:16):
Just I had.

Speaker 2 (39:16):
It may be sad too to see that he had
passed away.

Speaker 4 (39:19):
I'm also I'm going to completely steal Bill Simmons' idea,
which I did for my entire career, so I feel
like I can do it now as well. He did
something he used to do that was he would do
a podcast every few weeks where he would like just
take people's questions.

Speaker 5 (39:38):
I want to do that for the Interrupted potas.

Speaker 4 (39:40):
So people sometimes will ask me on the text machine
when I think about this or that. It can be sports,
it can be news, it can be politics. It just
can't be UK stuff. So I'm not gonna, I mean,
I do the UK stuff on this show. So from
the end of the show today until tomorrow morning seven
seven to seven seven four five two five four, if

(40:01):
you write a question tomorrow, I'm gonna tape the Interrupted
podcast and answer people's questions. You can ask opinion on whatever,
like this is your chance to ask if you want
to ask a dirty, stinking liberal question or if you
just want to ask about something else. I'm I'm glad
to do it, and I'm gonna do that as our
Interrupted podcast tomorrow.

Speaker 2 (40:19):
I like that good idea.

Speaker 4 (40:20):
Seven seven two seven said, but wait till after the
show today so I can see it.

Speaker 5 (40:24):
All right, who's next, shit, let's go to Jason. Jason,
I got about a minute, go ahead.

Speaker 6 (40:30):
Yeah, just real quick.

Speaker 10 (40:31):
I missed the early part of the show, But did
I see right last night in the first half that
I think we were doing an inbounds play and the
camera had Coach Pope in the background, and he had
his cell phone out and look like he put it
in his back left pocket. Now, it could have been
a cue card, it could have been a play sheet.
I don't know, but it looked like to me, it
looked like a cell phone. I'm thinking, why does he
have his cell phone even on him much less out?

Speaker 5 (40:52):
Yeah, I didn't see that. Do you know something out?

Speaker 6 (40:54):
I didn't see that, But I would be shocked if
you pulled out a cell phone. I would guess some
kind of notes. Yeah, but I didn't see it, so
who knows.

Speaker 4 (41:00):
