Speaker 2 (02:36):
So there's a lot of stuff to get to.

Speaker 3 (02:38):
This is a big day, big weekend for UK sports,
including a game in Nashville, volleyball, et cetera. But I
actually think the biggest news has nothing to do with
UK sports. I'm gonna step to the side and let
my co host Drew Franklin speak here for a second.

Speaker 7 (02:55):
Okay, yeah, a little wanting na na here.

Speaker 3 (02:58):
Yeah, we've got some breaking news, so let's go breaking
news ring.

Speaker 7 (03:02):
All right, all right, wife Abby is here. We are
on our way to Nashville, and we want to share
with everyone that we are expecting a baby girl for
my girl, dad Era. I will take any tips that
you guys fellas have out there that have girls, but we.

Speaker 2 (03:20):
Can sit on this gi me.

Speaker 7 (03:22):
Yeah, we've been sitting on this secret for a while.
But heading to Nashville, I think it's gonna be hard
to keep that secret any longer. So we're going let
it out and let everybody know. And we're very excited
do masters Sunday, baby girl.

Speaker 3 (03:35):
After twenty years of well after fifteen years of Kentucky
Sports Radio on the radio, this is.

Speaker 2 (03:42):
The first KSR.

Speaker 3 (03:43):
Child, Ryan Lemon coming and very excited for Drew. He
told us a while back, but the announcement public today
and we're proud of him.

Speaker 2 (03:54):
I almost feel like a proud uncle. I had texted
or tweeted.

Speaker 3 (03:58):
On his or I'm gonna get it right, put a
comment on gram where I said have a nice baby,
because that's all I know.

Speaker 2 (04:05):
How to say.

Speaker 7 (04:05):
But we got a good laugh out of that.

Speaker 5 (04:07):
So Ryan, I know you're happy to super excited for
Drew and Abbey. I mean this is awesome and we
all become uncles. You know, we're all gonna take ownership
in this little girl. Ryan is a good name for
a girl as well as.

Speaker 2 (04:17):
A boy that don't do that.

Speaker 8 (04:19):
Ryan Franklin has a nice ring to just saying Shannon
could go either way to call it ks baby for
right now?

Speaker 7 (04:24):
Okay?

Speaker 3 (04:25):
Yeah, we her at remotes and you always have the
memory of you announced it to the world at the
Ashley Furniture outlet in Glasgow.

Speaker 7 (04:33):
I couldn't think of a more special place Glasgow. We
have a lot of good friends here. We like furniture.
Maybe we'll go with the name Ashley, who knows?

Speaker 2 (04:41):
Just kidding? That would be perfect timing.

Speaker 4 (04:45):
And I all.

Speaker 3 (04:47):
Know what kind of what kind of rockers you all
gotta be already h Yes, by the way, Ashley Furniture
in Glasgow and Somerset Drew.

Speaker 2 (04:54):
I'm very proud of you and excited. When when is
it due?

Speaker 7 (04:57):
Master Sunday? If you hand him the calendar and said
pick a date, that's probably the one I would have circled.

Speaker 4 (05:02):
Do you plan that?

Speaker 2 (05:04):
Yeah?

Speaker 7 (05:04):
God, I mean it's right after we win number nine.
I'll have a week to get back from Indianapolis. Just
sit and watch golf all weekend. Yeah, you're not allowed.

Speaker 3 (05:11):
To have it the weekend before, so you're gonna have
to make sure it is that weekend.

Speaker 7 (05:16):
Well, you all will make great babysitters. I'm really looking
forward to her first road trip will be next year.
Wherever we're going. I'm just she'll be tacking along.

Speaker 2 (05:22):
I feel like I would be a great babysitter. Well,
it is exciting. So that's part of a big day
of news.

Speaker 3 (05:30):
Let's go through just a little catch up for people
who haven't who haven't followed it. All right, So the
good news. UK volleyball won its first round of the
NCAA tournament. You can clap for the Apps as they
beat Wofford last night in a fairly easy match. They
will play tonight at seven o'clock against UCLA. So that
game will be I think it might even be on

(05:52):
regular television, but it will certainly be on on the computer.
But UK will play UCLA. Now, the game technically starts
at seven, but actually we'll start thirty minutes after whatever
the game was before, so it could be as early
as six point thirty they said so, but either way,
it is tonight and we will have it at the

(06:13):
bar along with the basketball game. But the UK volleyball
team wins their first game tonight. They are a favorite,
but that this is a game they could lose if
they don't play well. UCLA has been very good in
years past, So that's tonight. The basketball team, of course,
is on their way. They play Gonzaga seven o'clock tonight
in Nashville in a game that's nerve racking to say

(06:35):
the least. Hopefully, hopefully we get it done we need it.
And then the football there's a lot of news with
UK has basically announced, well they haven't announced officially, but
we know their offensive coordinator is gonna be a guy
named Joe Sloan. They are going to.

Speaker 2 (06:50):
Steal Louisville's head recruiting coordinator. The head recruiting coordinator for.

Speaker 3 (06:55):
Louisville football, Pete Nachta, is coming to Kentucky to be
the head recruiting coordinator at Kentucky Football in what I
think is a very surprising move.

Speaker 2 (07:05):
And there are some recruits.

Speaker 3 (07:07):
That Kentucky may be getting at the last minute that
they could pull today. All that is news. Which of
those Drew do you think is the most important.

Speaker 7 (07:17):
I'm kind of gonna leave with Pete Nocta. Okay, let's
talk about it a little more Louisville influence to the staff.

Speaker 3 (07:24):
So for people who don't know, Pete Nocta is the
guy who basically is in charge of Louisville recruiting. Vince
is kind of a head recruiter in terms of he
would Kentucky and Ohio. But Pete Nocta is essentially Louisville's
for lack of a better term, GM. It's the head
of recruiting. Now we have a GM, but he's going
to be the head of recruiting at Kentucky. I would

(07:47):
meant I don't know a lot about you know, who
he got, who his players are.

Speaker 2 (07:51):
I don't really know about his ability to recruit.

Speaker 3 (07:53):
I do know this, people at Louisville loving, I mean loving,
especially the people that are kind of engaged with the
pro They've talked about him. One of them tweeted out
yesterday he can go anywhere he wants, he better not
go to Kentucky.

Speaker 2 (08:07):
And then he went to Kentucky. Uh.

Speaker 3 (08:10):
I don't know what impact it'll have, but I do
also say, you know what they take Vince, We'll take
this guy, Ryan, What.

Speaker 6 (08:17):
Do you think I can talk a lot about Pete Knocked.

Speaker 2 (08:19):
I've known it.

Speaker 5 (08:20):
He was like five years old. His dad is a
long Yeah really yeah. His dad is a long time
high school football coach in Lexington. Pete grew up a
running the sidelines with a ball boy in these dad's games.
We were covering the games at Brian Station. A super
super guy had a real bad health scare several years ago,
and he's conquered that.

Speaker 2 (08:38):
But you're right.

Speaker 5 (08:39):
People love him and that's why they've done well in
recruiting because because he's just that guy you liked.

Speaker 2 (08:44):
What did you think when you heard he was coming?

Speaker 5 (08:46):
I was super excited. I kind of came out of
nowhere for me. But like I said, I've been a
Pete Knocka fan for a long time. He and I text,
We even text once in a while.

Speaker 8 (08:54):
Yeah, Scoop back, Yeah, Scoopy about the scoop something for us?

Speaker 3 (08:59):
Oh wow, See, I didn't even know you had that connection.
Continuing this theme, though, Shannon of guys from Kentucky with
Kentucky connections, I mean, this is going to be a
football staff. I mean, Justin Burk is from Kentucky will Stein,
Pete Knachta.

Speaker 2 (09:14):
I mean they are assembling a crew of people who
grew up in this state and where Kentucky fans growing up.

Speaker 4 (09:21):
I love that.

Speaker 8 (09:21):
Let's keep the guys here home. And I think you're right.
You know they got vents. Now we took two of theirs,
We'll get two for one. Everyone that you take from us,
we'll take two of yours.

Speaker 7 (09:29):
I don't know Pete like Ryan does, but a lot
of my friends grew up with him, and they've talked
highly of him since I was hating on Louisville ten
years ago. Also, he's been there forever. He's gone through
multiple coaches and they've kept under around, So how much
of means. But even though I don't know him personally,
I mean, as you all said, everyone loves the guy
and speaks holly of him.

Speaker 3 (09:46):
Now, I do think it's interesting. Vince Merrow tweeted out yesterday.
I initially thought it was in response to our will
Stein interview, because Shannon will Stein said something to the
effect of We're gonna lot own the state of Kentucky
and then go into Ohio. And then Vince was like,
good luck getting Kentucky and Ohio that you know that's

(10:09):
us or whatever. But now I kind of wonder if
maybe he was learning the Pete Nocton news too. I'm
not sure he was. He was a salty big dog yesterday.

Speaker 2 (10:18):
Yeah.

Speaker 8 (10:19):
I want to see some of this back and forth.
You know, Vince Merrill tweeting during games was sort of
a boss move. But I think we've got a good
rivalry going on between will Stein and now Vince Merrill Loisville.

Speaker 3 (10:29):
They also end up taking an offensive coordinator named Joe Sloane.
He comes from uhhere, where's he come from? East Carolina?
He was at LSU. When he was at LSU, he
did coach Jadon Daniels, who ended up in the NFL
and obviously had a great year. He was part of
this year's team that did not do very well. It's

(10:51):
interesting will Stein says he will not call plays, meaning
will Stein, this guy will but I'm sure he'll have
impact on it.

Speaker 2 (10:58):
What do you think about that higher?

Speaker 6 (11:00):
That's the I love the high.

Speaker 5 (11:01):
That is the most interesting thing for me that will
Stein's been this creative play caller. That's how he made
a name for himself at Oregon. And he's going to
hand it over to this guy, Joe Slncel. He must
truly trust this guy to hand over all those play
countabilities that he's been so successful at.

Speaker 3 (11:13):
I'm sure I'll have a role in a dude who's
such I can't imagine.

Speaker 2 (11:17):
He just says, yeah, I mean, I'm not gonna give
my opinion. I don't think it will be like that.

Speaker 7 (11:22):
Yeah, And he kind of said as much. He said,
I'm not gonna be in the headset, you know, having
the conversation sending in the plays. But I will have
a big uh saying what is actually being called even
though he's not actually calling it.

Speaker 2 (11:38):
Show him make five died two eighth, twenty two eighty seven.

Speaker 3 (11:41):
All of this, though, I mean, ultimately we will find
out Shannon on the field.

Speaker 2 (11:47):
What what will end up happening.

Speaker 3 (11:50):
But all of this is kind of just trying together momentum, right,
Like I mean, this is ultimately injecting excitement bringing in
these names. I mean, there's some tall I don't know
if they're gonna get this kid from Louisiana this receiver today,
but he was an LSU commitment. I think four knocked
or excuse me, four Joe Sloan when he was there

(12:10):
that kid might end up flipping to us. That would
be one of the bigger receiver commits we've gotten in years.
I think it's all just about kind of re energizing
the fan.

Speaker 8 (12:19):
Absolutely, a lot of excitement right now. You know, we
talked about Mark Pope when he came here. He won
the press conference. I felt the same way about Will
Stein just a couple of days ago at his press
conference as well. So, you know, bringing in a guy
who the last couple of years at LSU averaged four
hundred yards of offense every game. I mean, that's you know,
you look at the numbers. That's something to get excited about.

Speaker 2 (12:38):
Now.

Speaker 3 (12:38):
You guys are not like in the thick of UK Louisville,
but there are Louisville fans here in Glasgow because I've
fought with them on your golf courses for one here,
Oh oh you got one, Jess hand Hey, Well, you know,
everybody's got their weaknesses. But I do think I mean,
taking their former quarterback. Two Trinity guys are the head coaches.

(13:01):
They have Vince, we now have their recruiting director Ryan.
I mean in terms of on the football side, you know,
the two basketball coaches might be nice and like each other.
But you gotta think on the football side, this is
the spiciest this rivalry he's been in a while, wouldn't
you think.

Speaker 5 (13:18):
I think there's no doubt about it, especially now with
will Stein being our coach. I mean, you know, Jeff
Bromp says some great things about will Stein. Will Stein
Sen's some great things about Jeff Brown. But you know
they want to go at it, man, with these Trinity guys.
The Trity of Mafia finally gets to come invade our
our stadium for a change, and I've been looking forward
to how it plays out.

Speaker 7 (13:34):
And more more so on their end, they'll probably turn
down the hatred just a little bit because you know,
they love getting their shots off at UK, just like
we fire back at them. But they really love that guy.
So I don't think there's.

Speaker 3 (13:45):
Those guys if you if you ask Louisville fans. I
was talking to a buddy of mine, actually my accountant
yesterday who's a huge Louisville fan, and he said will
Stein was his favorite player, Everett at will just because
he how much he he loved the guy, how interesting
he was, et cetera. I mean, like literally we haven't
just taken there, We've taken it would be the equivalent.

Speaker 2 (14:08):
I think what the equivalent is. I mean it would
be I don't want to make the exact.

Speaker 3 (14:12):
Analogy because because this guy was a lot better than
will Stein was for Louisville, but it would be like Shannon,
if Jared Lorenzen went and coached at Louisville or something,
people would go nuts.

Speaker 2 (14:22):
I mean, I think there's a little bit of that.

Speaker 8 (14:24):
The whole day kind of feels like a fever dream.
I still can't get over the fact that Vince Merrill
was at Louisville. It just still feels weird even this
you know, this time that's past. But yeah, and then
who would have thought that we would have had a
former Louisville quarterback as our head coach.

Speaker 3 (14:35):
And I love Vince Merrill, but we told him Drew,
if he went, what did is he become from big
dog to what to a little dog? That's just what
it is, because you went to Louisville and that's.

Speaker 2 (14:48):
Where we are right now.

Speaker 7 (14:49):
We'll mention this yesterday, but at the Big press conference
a couple of days ago, Steven sent me a picture
from the back and I didn't know all the guys
in the photo, but apparently with some old Louisville receivers
that were there wearing blue some like some actual people
that played for Louisville. They didn't have the emblem, but
they're wearing blue shirts. They're supporting will Stein at the
press conference.

Speaker 2 (15:06):
So you gotta love it.

Speaker 7 (15:07):
Weird seeing that.

Speaker 3 (15:08):
If I'm nine two eight oh twenty two eighty seven,
we are here at Ashley Furniture outlet. If you say
you would like the KSR Special Drive the Lane Discount,
I guess that's KSR Special Drive the Lane Discount. You
will get a special discount here at this Ashley Furniture
or the one in Summerset. We're gonna take a break.
We are hearing Glasgow, great crowd. We'll be right back.

(15:29):
This is Kentucky Sports Radio.

Speaker 2 (15:33):
Welcome back.

Speaker 3 (15:33):
It is Kentucky Sports Radio here in Glasgow and Ashley Furniture, Sir, you.

Speaker 2 (15:37):
Have to claugh. You can't sit that close and not
at least give a little bit applause.

Speaker 3 (15:41):
Ashley Furniture Drew not just a great furniture store, also
the name of.

Speaker 2 (15:46):
Jd Vance's girlfriend. It is a great place to be.

Speaker 7 (15:48):
Here and Ashley your furniture.

Speaker 2 (15:51):
That was the joke, Ashley furniture. I'm with you. I
expected more from you on that if I'm nine two
eight oh twenty two eighty seven. It was a dad joke.
It was a good joke.

Speaker 3 (16:00):
Seven seven seven four five two five four. Let's talk
just a second about basketball before we go the phones.
Kentucky playing at against Gonzaga today. This is a big
game for me regardless. I mean, we need this one.
Got some good news yesterday that Jalen Lowe is going
to UH is gonna be coming back at some point.

(16:23):
We don't know if he's coming back today, but he
will come back. For me, that is huge news, right
because I mean, I don't mean to be pessimistic, but
I feel like if we didn't have Jalen low I.

Speaker 2 (16:37):
Don't know if we're gonna be good this year. Now.

Speaker 3 (16:39):
I'm not certain we're gonna be good with him, but
I know we're gonna be better than we'd be otherwise.

Speaker 2 (16:45):
Let's skip let's skip today for a second.

Speaker 3 (16:47):
Do you agree with me that that's major news even
though he could get hurt again, that at least he's
gonna give it a try.

Speaker 5 (16:53):
I think he is the answer for a lot of
the offensive woes that this team is having problems with,
just being that point guard out there, that leader, and
that moves Aberdeen to his natural position of off the
ball a little bit. I think a lot of things
can a lot of problems can be solved with Jalen
Low coming back.

Speaker 7 (17:09):
Yeah, he'll get the offense moving. I don't know if
we'll see him tonight, and I hope we do because
we know how desperate it's getting already this earlier in
the season. But I was someone when the news broke.
I didn't in my brain, I didn't expect him. I
just didn't know what either. I thought for him and
his future, it might be better not to play. So
I'm thrilled that he's going through with it. Whenever we
get to see him, and the sooner the better because
he won't solve all the team's problems, but it'll get

(17:31):
that offense moving because it's just completely big flat without him.

Speaker 8 (17:34):
Huge news that he's gonna give it a try. You know,
people like to question players toughness. I like that he's
actually trying to come back, and when he does, I
think it's gonna make the offense go because whatever lineup
we had last game against the North Carolina is not
it the best this team.

Speaker 2 (17:48):
Has looked against the team all year. That was decent.

Speaker 3 (17:53):
It was about a fifteen minute stretch with Jayon Lowe
in the second half and everybody I know people remember
the turnover at the end, missing the free throws, but
he took us from twenty four points down to it
was a one possession game on the road, and since then,
our offense has.

Speaker 2 (18:10):
Yet to look good in one of these games.

Speaker 3 (18:11):
I don't think our offense looked good one minute against
Michigan State, and I don't really think it looked good
against North Carolina, even though we had a chance to
win the game.

Speaker 2 (18:20):
So I think that's huge. Now, on the other side.

Speaker 3 (18:23):
Modiabate has a high ankle spring. They're saying that's usually
a four to seven week injury. He's been out two,
so I think you got to assume he does not
play until we maybe get to SEC play.

Speaker 2 (18:37):
I think that's a tough injury for Kentucky two.

Speaker 3 (18:40):
I don't think it's debilitating, especially against the teams we're
gonna be playing. It may hurt us against Gonzaga, but
not so much. Maybe against Indiana and Saint John's and
then you get him back for SEC play.

Speaker 2 (18:51):
But it is a bummer.

Speaker 3 (18:52):
I mean, if you were Mark Pope and you started
the season and you go, Okay, who are the most
who are the most talented guys on your roster? Here's
a decent chance that Kentucky has been without is now
out without three of the four. Sure, Jayleen, Lom, Diabate
and Jade Quaints. At least he's gonna get one back,

(19:14):
but now you're losing another one. Mark Pope and injuries
have just been a terrible combination.

Speaker 2 (19:19):
The last couple of years.

Speaker 5 (19:20):
You're right, Tonight's game is the reason Mark Pope went
out and got Mohammed Diabate. I mean that e K
dude and Huff. I mean these are guys that destroyed us.
He needed a guy like diabatee. They need him tonight,
They need that the game.

Speaker 2 (19:33):
This is a game they could really use him to night.

Speaker 3 (19:35):
I mean, Gonzaga's got that e K guy, Like that's
who we'd put on him, like it's gonna be tonight
is a night we could really use him, but we're
not gonna have him.

Speaker 7 (19:45):
Yeah, Gonzaga has got some size that's one of their strengths.
They have a lot of strenks, and really Kentucky just
as a team lacks toughness and physicality, and he's like
the guy, He's the dog on the team with him
not out there. It just really shows just from their
how they play and their identity.

Speaker 3 (19:59):
So we have I mean, are any of you going
to the game tonight? I mean we're on your path,
you going, There's a haym full of people, So.

Speaker 4 (20:07):
Any chance we win, I mean there's always a chance.

Speaker 2 (20:10):
Right. What's the spread?

Speaker 4 (20:11):
Three?

Speaker 7 (20:12):
It moved quickly.

Speaker 2 (20:13):
It's only three.

Speaker 7 (20:15):
Yeah, I was shocked. It's already up to six and
a half. Fun out o it is three when at earlier.

Speaker 3 (20:21):
Thought I mean honestly, I thought it was gonna be
like eight or not three. That Vegas likes us for
some reason.

Speaker 7 (20:29):
I put it out on Twitter when it came out,
and all of my replies are Kentucky fans saying they're
betting on Gonzaga, which isn't exciting.

Speaker 2 (20:35):
Yeah, I mean, go ahead.

Speaker 5 (20:37):
I don't know how we won the game last year.
Weren't we down like by twenty at halftime or something.
Cresa got hurt and like it was like it seemed
like it was falling apart. K was destroying us last year,
and when that's what a Mario Williams in there, I
don't know.

Speaker 4 (20:49):
I just don't gonna be a problem again tonight.

Speaker 2 (20:52):
He is. I feel like he owned us in Repara.
I feel like he's playing for ten years.

Speaker 3 (20:57):
I mean, he had that huge game against US at Reparena,
and he had a big game against US last year
against Seattle in Seattle. I feel like we've been going
against him for forever. He's he's gonna be tough, but
I mean bigger picture. So I really haven't gotten to
talk a lot about the North Carolina game. I was

(21:17):
so disappointed in that game, like that's the game that
has you know, Michigan State is pretty good and Louisville's
pretty good despite what happened in Arkansas, but I don't
think North Carolina's good.

Speaker 2 (21:30):
And that game is.

Speaker 3 (21:30):
At home and we look so discombobulated on offense, and
I I mean, I want to I hope it gets better.
I want to say it will, but I don't know. Drew,
we we can't shoot. We have like two guys that
can beat people off the dribble.

Speaker 2 (21:50):
Like what effort.

Speaker 8 (21:52):
That was a big problem too. I mean they got
crushed on the board center What I mean.

Speaker 3 (21:56):
What is the thing to make me go, all right,
this is gonna get better. Besides Jalen Low coming back.

Speaker 7 (22:03):
I don't mean to be down, and there's really nothing
right now. We just have to hope they flip a
switch and figure it out in a hurry. I mean
they've only had a couple of days to practice since then.
But it was equally disappointing that the defense was so good.
Caleb Wilson is the star yellowch actually defended him really well.
He didn't even beat you. You beat yourselves by not
being able to score at all. Helped him to Like
we lost.

Speaker 3 (22:23):
To North Carolina's B players. We actually held Caleb Wilson.
I would have dropped him a couple of spots in
the draft based on how Yellovich guarded he. But then
you got a guy who was the guy that made
the winning shot, Dixon of Dixon, like he hadn't done
ayth he had the last five points.

Speaker 4 (22:39):
Then you gotta take more than thirteen threes too. That's
all they took in that.

Speaker 6 (22:42):
North Bred garrison to take more threes he's only got
hit one.

Speaker 2 (22:45):
I mean, I don't know you. I want to take
more than third before, only gonna.

Speaker 4 (22:48):
Make one and let him do his thing.

Speaker 3 (22:50):
Yeah, we'll see, all right, we'll take a break, try
to be a little happier.

Speaker 2 (22:54):
We are here at Ashley Fire to.

Speaker 3 (22:55):
Trade five nine, two eighty seven And this is KZ
of Quarterback Tackie Sport Radio Kentucky and Zach Gonzaga seven
o'clock tonight. Pregame show will be at four thirty. We'll
have all the we'll have both games at the bar.
I hope you'll come and join us. We have a
football team there. Last night Raceland. We're gonna preview the
high school games later with our high school expert here.

Speaker 2 (23:19):
Some good ones.

Speaker 3 (23:19):
Actually, there's a preyer four that could be real battles
this week this weekend.

Speaker 5 (23:24):
Yeah, the Racelin Rams came in last night. They've been
to the state finals like three of the last four
years and still looking for their first titles.

Speaker 2 (23:30):
That game's at noon. It's on Prep Spin.

Speaker 3 (23:33):
If you that'll be a great game Raceland and LCA,
that'll be that should be a battle.

Speaker 5 (23:38):
They race a Kentucky Country day, same thing. LCA plays
two a against Owensborough Catholic.

Speaker 3 (23:44):
Consider all those schools, Shannon, the same l and Christian Academy.
You're essentially the same school. One person on a text machine, rights, Matt.
This basketball team's play is a reflection of their dress.
They're sloppy, half their jerseys untucked, and they wear different
colored shoes. They look like a bunch of dudes in

(24:05):
a pickup game rather than a blue blood college team.
I think most teams now are wearing different shoes. I
didn't notice they do go with their jerseys untucked a lot.
I mean, I don't like I don't like tucking things in,
so I'm not gonna criticize them, but usually they don't
let them do that.

Speaker 2 (24:20):
And I did notice, Drew actually that we do go
jersey untucked a lot. The shoes.

Speaker 7 (24:24):
I don't think that's gonna change, but I guess we
could present ourselves a little better with the tucked in jerseys.
I don't do we want to be like the Yankees, though,
And everybody's got to look the same, and you can't
have certain facial hair.

Speaker 2 (24:35):
No.

Speaker 7 (24:36):
But but I will.

Speaker 3 (24:38):
Say, I don't I don't you know, I don't know,
But Shannon, it does not look to me like the
team likes each other.

Speaker 2 (24:46):
I'm hoping that. Yeah, I mean, it just doesn't like you,
just little thing. Except for when walker Horn made.

Speaker 4 (24:53):
That through everybody united over there, I just haven't.

Speaker 3 (24:56):
I feel like there hasn't been a moment where it
looks like these guys are are there are fans of
spending time with each other.

Speaker 8 (25:02):
Yeah, there's almost clearly some on court chemistry, as we've
heard from I think Travis Ford said that. But if
there is off the court chemistry issues, that's a bigger
issue in its own.

Speaker 2 (25:12):
Like that, that's a hard thing to overcome.

Speaker 4 (25:13):
Yeah, it is.

Speaker 3 (25:14):
You better have all if you're gonna be if we've
had something, We've had a one team at Kentucky that
I don't know that they were the closest group in
the world.

Speaker 4 (25:23):
The group that had to go bowling together was that
the year.

Speaker 3 (25:26):
No, I mean, I'm not gonna say which one it
was because they're I don't want to say which one
it was. But there was a group that was a
really good team. But they didn't love each other. But
they were standing so much talent that it didn't really matter,
Like they like, it didn't really matter because they were
they had so much talent, but they struggled a little
bit through the year and then kind of came together.

Speaker 2 (25:49):
Maybe that's what this group has. We'll wait and see
who's up first. Paul is up first, Paul, go ahead.

Speaker 9 (25:54):
Paul, Hey, thanks for taking my call first time on here.

Speaker 10 (26:00):
But who my question is? Yeah, I'm excited about our
football coach, but my questions about the offensive coordinator. Joe
Sloan from LSU. LSU had a pretty bad year. Their
offense couldn't put up points. Nussmyer ended up losing the
starting quarterback job, So I'm curious how that's going to
play out at Kentucky, where our offense seems to have

(26:23):
a history of going east and west when we should
be going north and south. What are your thoughts on
the offensive coordinator?

Speaker 2 (26:29):
Higher?

Speaker 3 (26:29):
Well, I mean what I would say is the year before,
two years before, they had a really good offense, so
you know, I mean it didn't work out. I wasn't
there to know how much is Joe Sloan's fault or not,
but I think you'd struggle to find an offensive coordinator
that's never had a bad year. I know he's had
a lot of other good seasons. I know, he produced

(26:50):
a quarterback that ended up being the number one overall
draft pick, So overall.

Speaker 2 (26:56):
One bad season.

Speaker 3 (26:58):
I mean, I think the amount you know you you
could say that about a lot of people, but I
would say our head coach is one of the best
offensive minds in the country. He chose this guy, Ryan,
I think you got to give him some leeway to go.

Speaker 2 (27:11):
All right, That's the way I'll take it.

Speaker 5 (27:13):
When you're head coach coach bo Nick Dylan Gabriel and
he's got a number one draft pick in at Oregon
right now, and this guy coaching, Jaydon Daniels, I mean, yeah, how.

Speaker 6 (27:23):
Good are we set up for our offense?

Speaker 2 (27:24):
Man?

Speaker 6 (27:25):
I just gotta find the right pieces to plug into.
I totally trust those two guys.

Speaker 3 (27:29):
I generally speaking, take this few with assistant coaches Drew
when I'm not even seen the head coach. I remember
this when Mark Stoops was assembling his staff, I'm gonna
give him.

Speaker 2 (27:38):
His first staff.

Speaker 3 (27:39):
I'm won't give him whoever he wants, right like who
without critic criticism?

Speaker 2 (27:44):
Yeah, whoever you want?

Speaker 3 (27:45):
Like this is your first time coaching, you know these
people better than I do. I did not know this
dude's name before yesterday. So yeah, maybe he didn't have
a great year at LSU. But if our new coach wants,
he gets to assemble his first staff.

Speaker 2 (28:01):
In my view, without criticism. Do you agree with that?

Speaker 7 (28:04):
Yeah, I completely agree. And LSU just had problems overall.
We don't know what kind of impact he had. I
know some of their fans are kind of mocking Kentucky
on Twitter right now, but that could have been nuss
Meyer wasn't good. We know Kelly was a disaster. That
could have been the whole operation this past season. I'm
willing to to you know, let as you said, let
what do you call it shop for their own groceries.
We'll let will Stein do that and we'll judge how

(28:25):
it looks after the first year.

Speaker 3 (28:26):
And also different between what LSU expects and what Kentucky
expects right out the gates, that would be my fault.

Speaker 7 (28:35):
They did take our offensive line coach.

Speaker 2 (28:37):
Yeah, well, okay, you know what, that's a really good point. Yeah,
are you still there, sir?

Speaker 9 (28:43):
Yeah, I'm here.

Speaker 2 (28:43):
Did you like Will Wolford as our offensive line coach?

Speaker 9 (28:49):
I mean, we've had a pretty good running game in
the past, so yeah, I thought.

Speaker 2 (28:52):
He did, Okay, but he wasn't here for that.

Speaker 3 (28:55):
Like we've had terrible offensive lines two of the last
three years. I mean, my guess is you are not
a fan of.

Speaker 2 (29:00):
His or am I wrong?

Speaker 9 (29:03):
No, that's pretty accurate.

Speaker 3 (29:05):
Okay, Lsu just took him. Is Lsu stupid? Lane Kiffin
just took him? Is he stupid?

Speaker 2 (29:11):
Yeah?

Speaker 9 (29:12):
I mean you make a pretty good point. You make, Okay,
good point. I'm optimistic about it. I'm a little sad
to hear the news coming out from BBN about Mark Pope.
A lot of people saying he's on the hot.

Speaker 10 (29:21):
Seat already, but we haven't had a healthy roster all year.

Speaker 3 (29:24):
And yeah, nobody, I mean nobody, he's not on the
hot Yeah, I appreciate the call. Yeah you switch, you're
switching to a just something else negative. He's not on
the hot seat. But back to back to Sloan. We'll
see what happens. But I feel I'm gonna feel confident
until it not right.

Speaker 7 (29:40):
And Stein's the best offensive play caller in the country.
Everybody wanted him, you know, everybody wants to coach with
Will Stein. I think even though he's as he said,
I'm not actually sending into plays. My footprint is gonna
be all over it. So I'd say he's still gonna
be and everybody wants to coach with Willstein.

Speaker 2 (29:54):
I love that confidence, right, yeah, yes, I agree.

Speaker 3 (29:58):
There'd be a couple of lines people will remember. Remember
it was just a couple of weeks ago. Mark Pope
said in the press conference, this team will not fail.

Speaker 4 (30:04):
Uh huh, Well, how's that working out for you?

Speaker 2 (30:06):
Well, caes is not over.

Speaker 4 (30:07):
Who's next?

Speaker 7 (30:09):
Big Don?

Speaker 2 (30:09):
Is next? Big Don? How are you? Hey?

Speaker 11 (30:13):
Boys?

Speaker 4 (30:14):
What's going on?

Speaker 11 (30:14):
It's Big Dom?

Speaker 2 (30:17):
All right? Appreciate the call.

Speaker 3 (30:19):
I think, Rick, you're gonna have to listen to whether
it's Don or there's another letter after it, because I
think maybe he had another letter after it.

Speaker 8 (30:28):
Rick, Okay, well that was the guy that called the
postgame show the other night.

Speaker 7 (30:33):
He was very emotional after the game, yes night.

Speaker 2 (30:36):
Was that a real caller? Yeah? Yeah, oh okay, my bad.

Speaker 7 (30:39):
You had a great postgame.

Speaker 3 (30:40):
Don called back if if he if he's called before,
If you're listening, my fault, I thought you said something else.

Speaker 2 (30:46):
Call back.

Speaker 3 (30:47):
Who's next? We'll take your call. Rick, if he calls,
will put him on immediately. Go ahead, Who's next?

Speaker 2 (30:52):
Evan is next. Evan, Go ahead, Evan, Matt.

Speaker 11 (30:57):
I'm on my way to Nashville right now. I'm a
bet student at all Alburn, and I'm going to be
very upset if I drive up here to watch our
best players play twenty three or twenty four minutes a
game and stand there and watch Brandon Garrison get taken
advantage of by grahamy kay, and watch rebounds go right
over his head. I do not know. Hope is going
to have to get his minutes figured out, and I

(31:17):
know he doesn't have any options, but you cannot play
Brandon Garrison more than more than seven or eight minutes
a game.

Speaker 3 (31:23):
This got lost, and I appreciate the call, Ryan. It
got lost in the what happened the rest of the game.
But I will note, because I was following along some
money ESPN. We started out really hot against North Carolina,
right Yeah, it's ten to four, crowd's going crazy, and
what do we do? Mass substitution, mass substitution, and then

(31:44):
all of a sudden, it's thirteen to ten North Carolina.
I don't care what Mark so Pope says about analytics.
I've watched for two years. These teams start fast, mass
substitution turns around. Happened against It happened against Louisville on

(32:04):
the road. People forget we had a lead in that
game off the start. It happened in like seven or
eight games last year. I don't know why insists on
doing that. Why why do we mass substitute right at
the beginning of the game. It has never worked.

Speaker 5 (32:21):
And you know, the second half of the game, he
didn't substitute at all. He ran with those five guys,
So he kind of flipped Floffy's philosophy.

Speaker 6 (32:27):
You've heard him.

Speaker 5 (32:27):
Say he wants to get those guys off the bench
in case he needs them late in the game, and
he wants to save some legs from his starters case
he needs him late.

Speaker 2 (32:33):
But do we really think that if he brings one
in Shannon or two that at the end of game,
the guy are.

Speaker 3 (32:40):
All gonna collapse. I mean, I can't imagine that's true.

Speaker 4 (32:43):
No, I don't think so.

Speaker 8 (32:44):
The other thing is about, you know, these guys being
tired after playing so many minutes. They're playing twenty minutes
and we're talking about Yellowvins being tired.

Speaker 3 (32:51):
I mean, you know, Ryan makes a good point, Drew,
he played those guys the whole second half. I feel
like that would make a bigger difference in being tired
than the second set of the first half.

Speaker 7 (33:01):
And they were hot, like you, you just turned it
off like they were rolling. Who knows what they could
have gone up by it, and it's like, no seen
enough from them, up ten four, Let's put in the
next round. But the leave aside, just the one off
the subbing at the other half. When he says they're
tired of fatigue, I do not understand it because they're
guys all over the country playing thirty something minutes a game,
and our guys are in the hot twenties and he's

(33:22):
talking about fatigue.

Speaker 8 (33:23):
You think when Pope was a player, any of those
guys were tired. Rick was running their ass off in practice.
Those guys weren't tired. I say something to that, Yeah, yeah,
I agree.

Speaker 2 (33:31):
I don't. Here's why.

Speaker 3 (33:34):
If it was working, I would buy those things. But
it's not working, and so I just I don't buy.
Serve Pro is the number one choice for clean up

Speaker 2 (33:52):

Speaker 3 (33:54):

his fire, they come in, make it like it never happened.
The flood, come in, make it like it never even happen.
They do it all over the state. It's serve pro

Shannon is Billy who just broke a lamp right here
in the middle of the outlet, crashed it.

Speaker 2 (35:02):
He's over there sweeping. He literally his fee.

Speaker 3 (35:05):

Send the build a iHeartRadio, Send the build of Billy Rutley.
You can't take this guy anywhere. He hasn't even had
a mimosa yet. He's breaking stuff.

Speaker 3 (35:17):
And then I look, David said did you break that lamp?
And he waved me off and said no. And now
there's a picture of him looking at a shattered lamb.

Speaker 4 (35:25):
He's so stressed out right now look at him. You
can see it.

Speaker 2 (35:28):
How do you break a lamb in a furniture store.

Speaker 7 (35:31):
I like, we just heard a loud shattered glass and
we look up and there's a Billy. All these people
that it could have been, None of the listeners did it.
It was our own.

Speaker 3 (35:39):
And he also did it in that far corner where
there would be no reason to uh yeah. So to
the Ashley Furniture people, I'm very sorry, and to our
rep who sold this uh please apologize profusely on behalf
of us for letting Billy out of the house.

Speaker 2 (35:55):
Look at it.

Speaker 6 (35:55):
He's stressing out about it right now.

Speaker 4 (35:59):
Take him over to the mat is where he can't
break anything.

Speaker 8 (36:01):
Lay down on one of those taken out Billy taking
to collapses right there.

Speaker 2 (36:05):
All right.

Speaker 3 (36:06):
I actually apparently he did say dog. I thought he
said something else. Uh so, my bad big dog is
on the phone. Go ahead, big dog.

Speaker 2 (36:14):
It's done.

Speaker 4 (36:15):
Actually, okay, don.

Speaker 2 (36:19):
Here, big dog?

Speaker 3 (36:20):
All right, yeah, don don gotcha, not d O n G,
which is what I thought.

Speaker 2 (36:27):
Go ahead, boy, I'm back in.

Speaker 11 (36:30):
I'm heading sack, I got.

Speaker 9 (36:36):
I'm back in on the.

Speaker 2 (36:37):
Cat all right.

Speaker 3 (36:38):
I hope you're I hope you're right. I mean, we
just had somebody here who just found a ticket. I
just had somebody send me apparently two lower level tickets,
which I'm gonna giveaway if I get them in my
email to somebody here. They're so close. But uh, they
got actually send them to me. But if they do,
But go ahead.

Speaker 11 (36:58):
Drew, congratulations, And I gotta say, you ain't gonna have
apoth of pissing now.

Speaker 2 (37:05):
Thank you.

Speaker 7 (37:06):
It's very kind.

Speaker 11 (37:07):
But hey, what the biggest mistake we've ever had?

Speaker 2 (37:14):
Responsibility?

Speaker 3 (37:16):
Yeah, well, I appreciate the call, I will note something
about that.

Speaker 2 (37:20):
We talked about this yesterday.

Speaker 3 (37:23):
I want to be clear, like I, I don't know
if that NIL deal with JMI is going to work.
All we'll see. I All I want to know is
what's happening. That's all I'm asking. And my issue with Mitch.
I mentioned my thing about him communicating. Still I still
think that's true, but I just want to know about

(37:45):
it because there were reports right after the show yesterday.
This is before I even said all that. Excuse me,
after I said this that Christian Collins the hot top
high school recruit, that part of the reason Kentucky hasn't
gotten him signed is they can't seem to work out
the NIL deal.

Speaker 2 (38:01):
Now maybe it's justifiable.

Speaker 3 (38:05):
All I know is every other team got their top
recruit signed, and the three we want so far we
haven't been. So I'm I'm skeptical and I just need
people to explain to me what's going on.

Speaker 2 (38:17):
And I don't think Mitch has done a good job.

Speaker 3 (38:20):
High school state championships are just yes, let's go over
the first three. Tell me about the games today.

Speaker 5 (38:25):
First game is the Raceland Rams we talked about and
Kentucky Country Day I know nothing about Kentucky Country Day
other than that's where Los Angeles Dodger catcher Will Smith
went to high school.

Speaker 6 (38:34):
It's about all I know.

Speaker 2 (38:35):
All right, Shannon, who you got?

Speaker 8 (38:37):
I'm gonna go Kentucky Country Day. We've already shown that
Racelin can't win the Big One.

Speaker 3 (38:42):
They came to the bar last night, so I wish
you hadn't said that. Well, I'm gonna go with who
spent money with us last night?

Speaker 2 (38:49):
The big one? Shannon is ungrateful?

Speaker 5 (38:51):
Would you like Racelna came last night? They come every
single year. We are on the Raceland Rams bandwagon.

Speaker 7 (38:57):
Of course, go with Raceland. I saw right, even had
the hoodie on. Yes, today, I'm not all in because
this guy.

Speaker 2 (39:02):
I'm gonna makeing a prediction.

Speaker 3 (39:04):
If you went to Kentucky Country Day, I don't think
you'd fit him very well. I think you'd fit him
better at Riceland from what I know of Kentucky Country Day.

Speaker 2 (39:11):
Yeah, what's the next game?

Speaker 5 (39:13):
Two a's a battle the Christians and the Catholics, lection
and Christian Catholic for years and then Owensboro Catholic big
private school battle in two A.

Speaker 3 (39:21):
This is that this may be the best game of
the whole weekend in terms of how close it is.

Speaker 2 (39:25):
I'll take Owensboro Catholic. What do you got.

Speaker 5 (39:27):
I gotta go with my hometown LCA Eagles, so I'm
gonna go ELCA.

Speaker 7 (39:30):
I thought your hometown was Owensborough.

Speaker 6 (39:32):
That's my second hometown.

Speaker 7 (39:34):
That's true, I'm to say owens hometown Lexington.

Speaker 2 (39:39):
I think Owensborough's more of your hometown than Lexing.

Speaker 6 (39:41):
I've been in Lexton now for almost thirty years, so
I think I kind.

Speaker 2 (39:44):
Of accepted you adopt Owensboro.

Speaker 7 (39:46):
Bro.

Speaker 6 (39:46):
What it's beneficial to me? I do.

Speaker 5 (39:49):
But now this is elsa. Oldsborough Catholic wanted to come
to the restaurant too, but they wanted to bring one
hundred people.

Speaker 2 (39:56):
All the more reasons that sound like a b I agree.
You want to know.

Speaker 3 (40:02):
You want to know sometimes why the restaurant business is hard.

Speaker 2 (40:06):
