Welcome to Hour two of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by
Stockton Mortgage. Now here's Matt Jones.

Speaker 4 (01:06):
Welcome back, I number two Kentucky Sports Radio eight five
nine two eight oh twenty two eighty seven. Text machine
is seven seven two seven to seven four five two
five four. Here at ks bar and grill. People coming
in for lunch. You're ready to ready to go. Remember
the the volleyball UH Watch Party game starts at nine o'clock,
so it's a late one. You folks are gonna stay

(01:27):
up back there. You gonna be able to stay awake
tonight for the game. Sorry, why are you shaking your head?
It's a sit You're a senior citizen, but you know
sometimes even senior citizens gotta let their hair down and party.
And tonight with UK Wisconsin would be one of Nick
Rousse gave me a fact.

Speaker 5 (01:42):
I want you to reach you Nick Rousse's fact. Fun
fact Fun fact.

Speaker 4 (01:45):
Craig Skinner, UK's volleyball coach and Wisconsin's coach Kelly Sheffield
once coached the team together.

Speaker 5 (01:52):
Would you like to know what the team was?

Speaker 4 (01:54):
Yes, the undefeated Munseye, Indiana JV volleyball team in Night YEA.
Two coaches coaching at the Final four coached a JV
volleyball team together in nineteen ninety.

Speaker 5 (02:08):
How about that for a crazy.

Speaker 2 (02:09):
Fact, I love that JV volleyball doesn't get near enough
exposure on our show. Now we're gonna talk.

Speaker 5 (02:15):
About it's got no exposure over.

Speaker 2 (02:17):
The year, that undefeated season back in nineteen ninety and
monthsy Indiana.

Speaker 6 (02:21):
Yes, that school's got to put something up to recognize
this match tonight. You would think so, saying that they
were on the same JV coaching staff and made it
that far.

Speaker 5 (02:29):
All right, let's do quickly a couple of little small topics.
Doug Gottlieb.

Speaker 4 (02:33):
Remember when he took the coaching job at Green Bay,
he said, I'm gonna keep doing my afternoon radio show
and I'm going to coach the team. He's done that
for a year. Last year his team stunk. This year,
his team stinks. And today he announced he was quitting
the afternoon radio show. Shandon, You and I called this
one a long time ago. There was no way he
was gonna be able to do both, and he has

(02:54):
not been able to do both, and now he's having
to quit the He had.

Speaker 7 (02:59):
Too much going on. You know what.

Speaker 3 (03:00):
They were four and twenty eight last year, there's six
and seven this year.

Speaker 7 (03:03):
So there's a little bit.

Speaker 4 (03:04):
Of ys and he shows up slightly sousd on the
field of sixty eight sometimes on Saturday night.

Speaker 5 (03:11):
So it works.

Speaker 6 (03:12):
Yeah, we knew this was coming.

Speaker 5 (03:13):
Uh.

Speaker 6 (03:14):
I thought maybe he might try to make it through
this year because he thought he would have done in
the offseason after last year. But yeah, it's clearly six
and seven not going well. He needs time to have
his fill of sixty eight appearances as well.

Speaker 2 (03:25):
We knew this was ridiculous. Trying to do an afternoon
radio show and coach your back. When do you go
to practice in the afternoon? Probably, what are you doing?

Speaker 8 (03:31):
Well?

Speaker 2 (03:31):
I got a radio show to do. That's just ridiculous.

Speaker 6 (03:34):
What for recruit calls? He's busy talking about the Tackers Bears.

Speaker 4 (03:37):
Yeah, listen, you call the radio shows. Let's say, hey,
coach practice? Yes, all right?

Speaker 5 (03:45):
Yet last night was historic night.

Speaker 4 (03:47):
The tallest player to ever score a point in the
history of college of basketball scored Oliver.

Speaker 5 (03:53):
Roue, who plays for the Florida Gators.

Speaker 4 (03:55):
He got a breakaway dunk last night and it's seven
foot nine and becomes the hot tallest player to ever
score a game in regulation, a point in regulation at Florida.

Speaker 5 (04:06):
Do you like the seven foot nine players.

Speaker 6 (04:08):
I do, And when they were here last year, I
made a point to go just stand as closely as
I could. I couldn't get all the way up him
because's on the court, but I got close enough to
know just it is insane how tall that man is.
He doesn't even need to jump whatsoever to dunk. It's
I guess they can't play much with those legs. He
just can't get around. But I'm glad he got a bucket.

Speaker 4 (04:27):
Are you surprised he doesn't play ever? Like you would
think a guy seven to nine. First of all, Florida
won the national championship, so they may not need him.
But if I was him, there's got to be a
college he can play at right there. There has to
be somewhere that he could play basketball at seven foot nine.

Speaker 2 (04:49):
Yeah, what if he went to a place like Eku?

Speaker 4 (04:51):
Well, let me ask you, if he went to Eku,
do you think he would start for Eku?

Speaker 2 (04:56):
I don't know if he'd start, but he would definitely
get more minutes. Like Drew said, it's hard for him
to run. Wouldn't he start? He's seven foot nine? Oh?

Speaker 3 (05:02):
I mean I'm watching him run down the floor. He
looks like he's doing pretty good to me. Yeah, that's
what I mean too. It's not like he's like it's
not like he's like hindicapped in any way. Like he run,
he runs up and down.

Speaker 5 (05:13):
He's slow.

Speaker 3 (05:14):
Is not the greatest college basketball player of air?

Speaker 7 (05:17):
Let him catch it?

Speaker 4 (05:18):
Well, that's another thing. Why don't you like Shannon's wants
you just throw it high in the air.

Speaker 7 (05:22):
Like he's gonna be the first to get it.

Speaker 4 (05:24):
I understand why it doesn't work in the SEC because
guys can jump. But if you went and played at Eastern,
you're telling me he couldn't score at Eastern.

Speaker 2 (05:33):
Yeah, that conference. Their big guys are a little smaller
than this.

Speaker 5 (05:37):
Big guys are like six foot seven, so you could
just run is.

Speaker 3 (05:41):
Two foot from his head. And that's not even counting
his arms in the air.

Speaker 4 (05:45):
I mean his arms in the air, he can he
can commit goaltending without jumping.

Speaker 5 (05:51):
Yeah, So I don't know, Drew.

Speaker 4 (05:54):
I feel like, I mean, he's at Florida, so I
can understand why he doesn't play at Florida, but I'd
like to see what happened and if he played at Eastern.

Speaker 5 (06:01):
Yeah, you just can't convince.

Speaker 4 (06:03):
Me that that kid could not be effect I mean,
Zach Edy is like seven four. Now, granted, Zach Edy's
got good footwork, but he's like that. He scores with
ease in the NBA. So you're telling me the seven
nine guy can't score against.

Speaker 6 (06:19):
More hen, I think you could. It would just be
how much is he hurting you on the other end
by the time he gets halfway back down the court
on those knees getting up and down, He's not quick
at all. People would just he would have to stand
on just underneath the goal on both ends. But I
think it could work for for a little while in doses.

Speaker 2 (06:36):
If you were planning against somebody that you know made
it a half court game, we've got time to kind
of get down the court and just get in the
lane and just clog up the lane on defense.

Speaker 7 (06:44):
I mean, I'm watching this play. He dunks, he's back
on defense.

Speaker 5 (06:47):
I'm with you. I feel like Oliver Rude needs to
I mean.

Speaker 7 (06:51):
I don't give him enough credit.

Speaker 4 (06:52):
He won a national first of all, he has a
national title ring, right, so he's already got yep, he's
already got.

Speaker 5 (06:58):
A great thing.

Speaker 4 (06:59):
I want to him enter the portal and go play
somewhere where he plays, because.

Speaker 5 (07:04):
I am just I feel like he has to be
able to play a little bit.

Speaker 2 (07:08):
Where did Tackle Fall play?

Speaker 5 (07:10):
Taco Fall was good Central, I don't remember.

Speaker 4 (07:15):
Taco Fall kind of dominated Duke in the tournament that year.
They should have beat him the Zion team. Do you
remember that Taco Fall was balling against Duke?

Speaker 2 (07:26):
Yeah, a good example, great example, dominated that kind of
at that level, but he was able to succeed against
bigger schools.

Speaker 5 (07:32):
I don't know. I want to see him.

Speaker 4 (07:33):
I want to see him for him, all right, So
now this story I like a lot Chris Paul, you know,
one of the legendary point guards of all time. He
got kind of cut by the Clippers. This was supposed
to be his last year, and now like his ending
tour is gone, they're hoping to find he's hoping to
find another team. But a story came out as to
why it ended with the Clippers. People were a little surprised,

(07:55):
like Clippers aren't even good. Why can't he just finish
the year. What turns out he threw a Halloween party
and he invited his teammates and none of them came
to his Halloween party.

Speaker 7 (08:09):
Wow, sounds like my friends.

Speaker 4 (08:10):
Yeah, so no one came to Well, first of all,
you don't invite us. I would come to your party,
invite Probably not, but I would think about it. But
no one came to his Halloween party, and apparently he
made him mad, and that started the process.

Speaker 5 (08:25):
Of him no longer being on the team.

Speaker 4 (08:29):
Now, I'm not trying to disparage Chris Paul, but that
man is forty years old, right. He's been the former
president of the Players Association, so he has been a
leader in the NBA. Don't you feel like it's a
little bit of an overreaction to having a Christmas party
and people not coming, or is it really rude for

(08:52):
this legendary guy on your team to not come to
his Christmas park's Halloween party.

Speaker 6 (08:58):
I don't know. It seems Chris Paul isn't the most
loved guy in the league. I saw somebody compared him
to Chevy Chase recently that thought, how you know, he's successful,
he considered one of the greats, but he's not really
well liked by period. I thought that was a mean comparison. Yeah,
I just saw that this week, so I think it
just says a lot more of how he's liked when

(09:19):
he's not playing basketball.

Speaker 4 (09:20):
But if you're playing on a basketball team and your
teammate throws a Halloween party, do you at least have
an obligation to stop by.

Speaker 6 (09:28):
I think you can just tell him though, like, dude,
I see you. I was fifting weights to you at
six am. We have a game tomorrow. I don't need
to see you at Halloween party.

Speaker 5 (09:36):
Okay.

Speaker 2 (09:37):
I think the fact that not one teammate showed up
is very telling what they think about him in that
locker room. Not one, at least one guy. He's got
a buddy in the locker He must not have your
friends were respected by anybody, for anybody.

Speaker 5 (09:50):
But don't you feel.

Speaker 4 (09:51):
Bad for him? He's sitting there at home, like at
his Halloween party. He's dresscul Yeah, he's dressed Straculin and
he's sitting in his house and he's like, when are
they comming?

Speaker 5 (10:00):
Where is everybody? He's holding a bow full of candy.

Speaker 4 (10:03):
He's that candy and like they're playing Monster Mash in
the background, and then no one walks in.

Speaker 6 (10:08):
He's got a table out with cupcakes you made. Okay,
now I'm starting for bad.

Speaker 4 (10:12):
For christ Fall, you know, I've always you mentioned Chevy Chase.
I've always heard that story and it has always made
me sad.

Speaker 7 (10:19):
What's the story?

Speaker 5 (10:21):
He's a jerk off camera? No, so Chevy Chase.

Speaker 4 (10:24):
They were doing the roast of Chevy Chase for Comedy Central,
and he agreed to do the roast because he was like, Oh,
this will be awesome. All my friends that I was
in the comedy world with they will come and because
they don't tell you who's gonna be there, they will
come and do the roast with me, and it'll be
awesome and it'll be exciting. And then all of a sudden,

(10:47):
he gets there and none of his friends came, and
it's all strangers and they.

Speaker 5 (10:52):
Just destroy him.

Speaker 4 (10:54):
And apparently when it was over, the magazine article says
he just goes home and cries because he expected, like
Bill Murray and all these people to come, and no
one came, and instead these young people were just like,
you're a jerk. And the story it's really sad. It's
like an Esquire story. He goes up to the hotel
room when it's over and sits by himself and just
cries all night. Now I know people say Chevy Chase

(11:17):
is a jerk. But every time I think of Chevy Chase,
I hear that story and it makes me sad.

Speaker 5 (11:22):
He could be the worst jerk, but that's still sad.

Speaker 6 (11:25):
The roaster are supposed to be your friends, just kind
of getting their digs in on y all in good fun.
But they just teed off on him and they were
like complete strangers to it.

Speaker 4 (11:32):
And they were strangers and so like he just had
to sit there and watch all these strengths, Like when
you all roasted me, it was my friends roasting me.
This was a group of strangers because his friends would
not come.

Speaker 7 (11:43):
Well, moral of the story, don't be a jerk, I.

Speaker 4 (11:46):
Know, but I still felt sorry for it. That story
has always bothered me. Well does it bother you at all?

Speaker 2 (11:53):
I've seen that story. I read that story, So it
makes me a little sad for him. But like Shannon said,
man be careful on your way up because you're going
to see him on your way back down.

Speaker 5 (12:02):
Yeah, I guess I just feel bad. Who's next? Will
will go ahead? Will hey?

Speaker 9 (12:09):
Good morning fellas?

Speaker 5 (12:10):
Good morning?

Speaker 10 (12:11):
Day off?

Speaker 9 (12:11):
Like said Shannon suggested, So I had a few takes.
I wanted to get off, but I was consistent I
was wanting to call in and say, all on the
Watchtower is the best cover of all time.

Speaker 5 (12:22):
Yeah, that's a good.

Speaker 8 (12:25):
Ye.

Speaker 9 (12:25):
I don't know if that was mentioned, but really was
intrigued by your guys conversation about the NBA earlier in
the game possibly coming to RUP. I had no idea
about that, but I also wanted to get your guys'
thoughts on expansion, and I'll kind of just, you know,
leave it at that and think, if we get this
game at Rapperena, a team might come to this area
in Natti Louisville or so.

Speaker 5 (12:46):
He was also asked by that about that. He was
asked about expansion.

Speaker 4 (12:50):
I appreciate the call, and he said they're going to
decide it next year and it would basically he acknowledged,
if they did it, it would be Las Vegas and Seattle,
so it would not be Louisville. So Louisville kind of
wants again getting turned down. I think I think the
problem for Louisville is they're probably one or two major
corporate sponsors short right, they have ups they have like

(13:15):
Ford is there and a couple they need like one more.
And as I understand that, they just they don't feel
like they have that and so and then Memphis has
been an example, like Memphis had a team pretty much
just cause of fed X, and now it's not really
doing well and they're kind of stuck there and they
don't want to have a second situation like Memphis. So Drew,

(13:36):
I just think we're probably not gonna end up getting one,
which is a shame because I actually think Louisville could
support an NBA team, But then again, their attendance at
the u of L games doesn't help the cause either,
because no one's going to the u of L game.

Speaker 6 (13:47):
So yeah, it would work if the Louisville and Kentucky
fan bases came together and supported the team, which I
think they would selfishly, I would love for it to
be there. I would be all in on whatever the
team was. And just think if we looked into drafted
a out of Kentucky or getting one that's already in
the league to play for him, I mean, it would
be awesome around here.

Speaker 4 (14:04):
Yeah, but I don't suspect it would happen, but I
would love it. It would be awesome.

Speaker 2 (14:08):
It was a time like before COVID or every time
there was expansion and it was talked about. Louisville was
like in the top two, top three every time.

Speaker 5 (14:16):
I've been told that.

Speaker 4 (14:16):
There was like eight or ten years ago the Grizzlies
were very close to moving to Louisville, but then FedEx
was like, we're not losing the team to ups and
so they end up, you know, keeping it there and
that was the rest is history. But I think it
could work, but I think it's unlikely to happen. The

(14:37):
Official UK Federal Credit Union, Ryn, you may not know this,
tell me about it. They're the official Credit Union of Joy,
really of Joy official.

Speaker 5 (14:45):
They Joy has picked them.

Speaker 2 (14:47):
Well, tell me about it. Tell me why they picked Joy.

Speaker 5 (14:50):
Because the holidays are full of hustle and bustle.

Speaker 4 (14:52):
But UK Federal Credit Union believes in slowing down to
find the joy in the season, whether it's sharing a
meal with friends, giving back to those in.

Speaker 5 (14:59):
Need, or or more.

Speaker 4 (15:01):
All y'all, with every smile, every laugh, every kind word,
be the joy that Kentucky needs. At UK Federal Credit Union,
the Official Credit Union of Joy. Membership LGB required. It's
UK fer Federal Credit Union, federally insured by n c UA.
We'll take a break and be right back a big
group of what is this a football team?

Speaker 2 (15:21):
Basketball?

Speaker 5 (15:22):
We'll be right back KSR. Welcome back Tucky Sports Radio.

Speaker 4 (15:27):
If I'm nine two eight oh twenty two eighty seven,
text machine is seven seven two seven.

Speaker 5 (15:30):
Seven four five two five four.

Speaker 4 (15:33):
Will Wade, the coach of uh NC State, gave a
quote yesterday. He was talking about his team's toughness and
what they what's important to him, and he said, quote,
we have a three point zero GPA. That's wonderful if
we were running a daycare, but we run a competitive
basketball program, and we've got a lot of casual personalities

(15:54):
on the team. I don't totally understand what that means. Yes,
does he not want them to get good grades? Does
he want them to have a better than a three
to zero? Like the quote is, we have a three
point oh GPA. That's wonderbul if we run a daycare,
but we're a competitive basketball program.

Speaker 5 (16:12):
What do you what do you think that means?

Speaker 6 (16:14):
It sounds like they're focusing too much on school.

Speaker 2 (16:17):
Is he implying that if you have a GPA of
three to zero or higher, you can't be competitive and
you can't be tough. Is that what he's implying he's
applying something like that.

Speaker 6 (16:26):
That's kind of how I take it. Yeah, they're studying
too much.

Speaker 4 (16:29):
You two are too smart, binds me of the famous
smart stoop squad. I know that's what you're thinking.

Speaker 5 (16:35):
Yeah, I know. I don't know. Is it time to
say that quote? I mean, he's not the coach anymore? Okay?
Should we say that?

Speaker 4 (16:46):
Drew? I mean right, no, no, no, no, you can't
put it on me. You can't put it on me.
You have to be part of it. Ryan has you
know what? Let this skip one day? Yeah, not to
I would vote no. Sorry, sorry listeners. Yeah, we'll give
it a year because it's it's a great quote. If
I'm nine two eight oh twenty two eighty seven. One

(17:07):
person writes Matt with Jayden Quaintance for the rest of
the year. And let's say he plays well, what's our
seed in the tournament? Say Jaydan Quaintans is good. And
let's say Jalen low stays healthy. So let's let me
put those two caveats, because I think those are two
big caveats. Jalen Quaintance is good, Jalen Lowe stays healthy.

(17:28):
What's our seed in the tournament? Understanding that we've already
lost four games.

Speaker 6 (17:32):
They say they don't factor in injuries. But if Quaintan's
and low were to be at full strength and Kentucky
look really good, I think they would consider that a
little bit. I'll say a four seed right now there
than nine at least if you believe the bracketologies. So
I'll say four.

Speaker 4 (17:47):
I think you're right about that. By the way, that
if that happens and we're good, they'll factor in the
fact that we didn't have those guys at the beginning.

Speaker 6 (17:55):
They could be like two of your best players not
playing out play us.

Speaker 4 (17:58):
Say, you could get all the way up to a
three if that happens. If you're snaring now, if he's
just okay and Low's in and out, then I think
you're looking at like a six seven. Oh he did it,
so I couldn't help that.

Speaker 5 (18:16):
I didn't mean to do that. I see all laughing
over there. What do you think?

Speaker 2 (18:20):
Yeah, those four losses are gonna factor ends. But you're right.
It they play the way we think they're gonna play,
and they stay healthy, they could get in that three
four range for sure.

Speaker 4 (18:28):
The North Carolina loss is gonna be the one that
sticks it matters. The Michigan State Gonzaga margin matters, but
the Michigan State Gonzaga in Louisville on the road, Like,
those are losses you can take. But that North Carolina
at home loss, that's gonna be one that sticks.

Speaker 5 (18:44):
Yeah.

Speaker 6 (18:44):
I mean, we were talking before the year how how
good the home schedule is, and that you really don't
need to give up more than one game at home
maybe to Florida all year. And you go and lose
your first big test at home, that one's gonna haunt them.
And the way you've led the whole game to till
the drought at the end. We have a basketball team here.
They're from Birmingham, Alabama. They're here to play Frankfort tonight
in basketball. They said they heard this was the spot.

(19:07):
So they're a big, big team.

Speaker 2 (19:09):
Over the pregame meal at cas Barger.

Speaker 4 (19:11):
Like to root for out of state teams against Frankfort.
But I haven't seen Frankfort here.

Speaker 2 (19:15):
They're not here today.

Speaker 5 (19:17):
I'm gonna have to take them against Frankfort tonight. Who's next?

Speaker 7 (19:20):
Mark?

Speaker 5 (19:20):
Mark?

Speaker 8 (19:20):
Go ahead and Mark, Hey, guys, how are you doing
this morning?

Speaker 5 (19:25):
Doing good?

Speaker 8 (19:29):
By the way, I'm a fellow Middlesborough alumni. I've graduated
in nineteen seventy nine.

Speaker 5 (19:34):
We'll go Jackets, And.

Speaker 8 (19:38):
I'm like everybody else, I'm concerned about the about the
basketball program. You know, we're nationally being made fun of
for the money that we spent in the transfer portal
and then recruiting wise, we're being made fun of. And
my question is at what point does Mark Pope or

(19:59):
some more go to JMI and say, look, guys, we've
got to change this. We can't get any players.

Speaker 5 (20:05):
Well, we'll see.

Speaker 4 (20:06):
I think it's going to depend on what happens with
these recruits this year.

Speaker 5 (20:09):
I appreciate the call.

Speaker 4 (20:10):
I mean, Drew, I think this is all going to
be evaluated based on a couple things we talked about this.
If they get Stokes and Collins, then none of this
will matter, right. All this conversation, while interesting, will ultimately
not have make a big difference even if they don't
get them. If they clean up in the portal, like

(20:31):
really get all their top targets, that might be okay, right,
But if you don't get the high school guys, you
don't clean up in the portal, then I don't think
there's any doubt that changes will have to be made
because fans will demand it, and by the way, we
won't be good next year. Like ultimately this all comes

(20:52):
down to we gotta be good next year because I
think unless we go on a crazy run here, fans
are going to demand success from Pope next year. I
generally think coaches get three years unless it's a disaster,
so he'll get a third year and it'll need to
be good.

Speaker 6 (21:12):
And I would love for them to shut everybody up
and go get Stokes or Collins because it really stinks,
knowing there's so many reports out there about how it
was pretty much done and just got to the final
closing table and couldn't finish there. I mean, if they
end up with out of them, I think it's a
direct reflection of how unorganized things are. Maybe the contract
situation's too much, So please get one of them, because
there's not any one left. There's not a backup plan.

(21:34):
Kentucky will probably not have a top fifty recruit in
this class, and that however Pope finishes the year, the
recruiting concerns will just carry on to the spring, and
that stuff snowballs because next year's kids are like, well,
why did anybody want to go there exactly.

Speaker 5 (21:46):
And then there's a couple issues.

Speaker 4 (21:47):
One, Pope has not gotten in his entire career a
top forty player not from the state. If you go
another year without doing that, and then the other player
thing is Pope has not had a first round draft pick,
and so every year that goes on, the chances of

(22:10):
you signing one of the top forty and then getting
a guy who can be a first round draft pick
is more.

Speaker 5 (22:15):
Now Jaden Quainton's might be that first round draft pick.

Speaker 4 (22:18):
That's why, in part we need him to really be
good for this team, but also to show, hey, I'm
Mark Pope. I can make a guy go to the NBA.
That I think helps as well.

Speaker 2 (22:27):
We've talked a lot about it. It's the perception of
it as much as bringing that kid on campus. Is
the perception you have the ability to land a top recruit.

Speaker 4 (22:34):
Like that, and he's going to be the only guy
Marks coached at Kentucky that we're gonna look on the
floor and go, oh huh, okay, that's a different kind
of athlete, that's a cal athlete, and this will be
the only one of these guys we have not had
that in these two years, We've had some great college players,
but we haven't had that that kind of Okay, I

(22:55):
know what that is, and.

Speaker 6 (22:56):
If that's what he is, you better be playing a
lot of minutes. Like I don't want to see he
gets twenty seven and Garrison gets a Marino. Good but no,
none of that. If he is truly a top ten player,
you play him as much as he can. Absolutely take well.

Speaker 4 (23:08):
One of the things those agents that were quoted in
the story said is these top dudes don't want to
play twenty minutes, right, they want to play thirty to
thirty five minutes. Pope's got a show. He's willing to
do that, right, And I think that is also that's
a big part of this. If I'm nine two, eight oh,
twenty two eighty seven, we'll take a break.

Speaker 5 (23:27):
Be right back. It's KSR. TJ. Smith, personal injury attorney
called TJ.

Speaker 4 (23:32):
He'll make them pay.

Speaker 3 (23:33):
Now more of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage.

Speaker 7 (23:37):
Here's Matt Jones, welcome back.

Speaker 4 (23:40):
This would be you know, top twenty five songs for me.
I think this would be in there, Shannon. I would
that would be on my if I was doing a
double disc.

Speaker 3 (23:51):
Right, I know you love some petty Uh did you
ever put out your where are you gonna do?

Speaker 7 (23:55):
Like your top one hundred songs? Did you ever do that?
I'm trying to remember. I don't think he's now.

Speaker 4 (23:59):
I need to do it in because it would like
we'd spend a lot of time talking about them.

Speaker 5 (24:03):
But I'd like to do that.

Speaker 4 (24:04):
I'd like to rank my top one hundred and do
the thing where you can only have one for each artist.

Speaker 2 (24:09):
Oh, that would make a tip o?

Speaker 5 (24:10):
Can I give you quickly? I won't, I won't do
this long, but do you quickly? One more trivia from
last all right? All right?

Speaker 4 (24:18):
So Spotify has existed since twenty twelve. I saw the
list of top five hundred streamed artists on Spotify now.
Not surprisingly, most of them are recent because people streamed
new music.

Speaker 5 (24:32):
Right. So I looked at the top eighty, Ryan, I
want to see if you follow.

Speaker 4 (24:36):
It, okay, And there were only twelve artists in the
top eighty whose first album came out before two thousand
and five.

Speaker 5 (24:44):
Do you understand why?

Speaker 4 (24:45):
Because people listen to modern artists, they don't listen to
older artists. So of the top eighties streamed of artists
of all time, only twelve their first album came out
before two thousand and five. So like Taylor Swifts came
out in two thousand six, Drake came out in two
thousand and five.

Speaker 5 (25:02):
Rihanna Come came out in two thousand and five.

Speaker 4 (25:05):
So who are the twelve top artists that have been
streamed on Spotify whose album first album came out before
two thousand and five. So you gotta think about who
are artists that are older but that are still listening
to today by people.

Speaker 7 (25:20):
I got one guess, what's your guess? Beyonce?

Speaker 5 (25:23):
Beyonce is one of them, so beyond, So Shannon gets one.

Speaker 2 (25:26):
Britney Spears.

Speaker 5 (25:27):
Britney Spears was oddly not on it. I don't know.

Speaker 4 (25:30):
I don't think that's a bad guess, but not on
it good.

Speaker 3 (25:34):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (25:34):
Every time you ask a streaming question, I always guess
bad Bunny. But they probably he.

Speaker 4 (25:38):
Came out after two thousand and five, Like there's a
ton of them that came after two thousand and five.

Speaker 6 (25:43):
I don't think Drake goes that far back when I.

Speaker 4 (25:45):
Said he was two thousand and five. Jay Z jay Z,
there's two of them. Shannon and Ryan getting one. Anybody
else you don't want to guess, feel free to jump in.

Speaker 2 (25:55):
Sir.

Speaker 4 (25:55):
You got the one a minute ago about the president
Mariah Carey, good get she was like a hundred. But
that's a good guest, sir.

Speaker 7 (26:02):
Yes, is Rihanna on there?

Speaker 4 (26:04):
Rihanna was two thousand and five, Like I said, who Journey,
No Journey, not on there? Died job eminem. So that's
three of the twelve. Is one Garth Brooks.

Speaker 6 (26:18):
Garth Brooks so oh he's not on Spotify and.

Speaker 4 (26:22):
Spotify that's exactly right. So that so he would be
on there. Exup, he's not on Spotify. Anybody wanted me
to one more guests before I give the answers. Number
one is Kanye West, who came out in two thousand
and two.

Speaker 2 (26:36):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (26:36):
Uh, then it was Emin M, Coldplay, Lil Wayne, Maroon
five almost said them, why didn't you?

Speaker 2 (26:47):
I thought it was a ridiculous, guess it.

Speaker 7 (26:50):
Was not a ridiculous ridiculously.

Speaker 4 (26:53):
Beyonce, Shakira, justin Timberlake, Oh yeah, jay Z Kupac and
then Too Old Bands Shin and I was shocked. One
of them's the Beatles. That's not shocking, But how about Queen.
Did you know that people still listen to.

Speaker 5 (27:12):
Queen like that?

Speaker 7 (27:13):
I try to not play Queen every afternoon.

Speaker 2 (27:16):
The you're making a big mistake.

Speaker 4 (27:18):
I just play you know that like kids listen to Queen?
The answer right there? You know what, drude, that's the answer.
That movie Bohemian Rhapsody.

Speaker 5 (27:30):
That's a good bought.

Speaker 6 (27:32):
And I think they've got some TikTok. They go viral
on TikTok with a couple of songs too.

Speaker 4 (27:35):
When I saw Queen last night, I was like, why
is Queen on? You're exactly what it? That's because of
that movie.

Speaker 5 (27:40):
Good call. Who's next?

Speaker 7 (27:41):
Let's go to Chris, Chris.

Speaker 5 (27:43):
Go ahead, Chris.

Speaker 11 (27:46):
Hey, guys. Uh. Number one excited about coming to watch
the bag ball team tonight at your place. Number two, Queen,
we will rock you is consistent with high school sports teams. Man,
they still rock back.

Speaker 2 (28:03):
That's true.

Speaker 4 (28:04):
They probably play them in games a lot. That's a
good call. Yeah.

Speaker 11 (28:08):
And then number three as a girl, Dad, I got
a nine year old girl, and I'm gonna throw in
a counterpot on that they shouldn't be alone until fourteen
years old. That's when I'm not leaving her alone. Bro once.

Speaker 5 (28:24):
That's true. Point, that's a good call. That's a good call.

Speaker 4 (28:28):
Appreciate it. I hope you bring your daughter tonight. I
think it's always cool when we do have these UH
women's sports events.

Speaker 5 (28:36):
There's always a lot of young girls here cheering it on.
That's cool.

Speaker 4 (28:39):
When we did the soccer team that one point, uh,
the women's soccer team, and as well.

Speaker 5 (28:44):
I appreciate the call.

Speaker 4 (28:44):
I have an idea, by the way, have I said
on here the idea I have for the World Cup
this year?

Speaker 6 (28:50):
I don't think so.

Speaker 2 (28:51):
I don't think you said anything.

Speaker 4 (28:52):
We're talking about this, Hubby and I I want to
know if you think this is a good idea.

Speaker 5 (28:56):
During the World Cup.

Speaker 4 (28:56):
You know, it's a very slow time at the bar
during and in July, so we're trying to figure out
how do you get some business?

Speaker 5 (29:02):
How do you do it?

Speaker 4 (29:04):
We thought that every day we would pick a team
that's playing and invite a local person who cooks food
from that country to be the guest chef at the
bar that day.

Speaker 2 (29:19):
I love it.

Speaker 4 (29:20):
So if like Argentina played, we would have someone here
who cooks food from Argentina and that day we would
serve Argentina food here, invite people who have food trucks
and stuff and like give a taste of various foods.

Speaker 2 (29:34):
Do you like that idea? Love that idea? Have some
specials that day in particular to that country.

Speaker 4 (29:39):
I love particular to that, and pick a country every
day of the World Cup that is playing that day.

Speaker 6 (29:43):
Yeah, we'll just embrace all their culture the best we
can here.

Speaker 5 (29:46):
I love it, and we'd p you know, bring somebody in.

Speaker 4 (29:48):
And it also gives a spotlight to somebody that has
like a food truck or maybe a small restaurant in
town or something like that.

Speaker 6 (29:55):
I like that a lot.

Speaker 5 (29:56):
Maybe we have that.

Speaker 4 (29:56):
There's a Haitian restaurant right next to here, so't talk
about Haiti plays because they made it that they can
cook some of their food here.

Speaker 2 (30:04):
Maybe fans of that team will come that day, or
just if you want to try the food.

Speaker 5 (30:08):
I would.

Speaker 2 (30:08):
I would want to try the food.

Speaker 5 (30:09):
What do you think.

Speaker 2 (30:10):
I love it. That's a great idea.

Speaker 5 (30:11):
Proud of you. Well we haven't done it yet, No,
you got to do it now.

Speaker 4 (30:14):
The people by the way, A couple other bands that
were close but not on the list. Michael Jackson was
very close he was like you would think he'd be higher,
but he was like eighty five Fleetwood Mac. Fleetwood Mac
was surprisingly very high.

Speaker 2 (30:29):
They're still to skateboarding.

Speaker 5 (30:32):
Maybe the tick I'm not you might be right?

Speaker 4 (30:35):
The TikTok guys skateboarding And what was that song he
was playing?

Speaker 7 (30:39):
Uh, dreams, dreams?

Speaker 5 (30:42):
Yeah, maybe you know.

Speaker 6 (30:45):
It's amazing how songs can you go viral on TikTok
or in a movie and they come all the way
back the whole generation.

Speaker 4 (30:51):
I will tell you what made me crazy was seen
there were people ahead of the Beatles that I'd never
heard of, Like one spot ahead of the Beatles with
someone named Daddy Yankee.

Speaker 5 (31:06):
Who's that?

Speaker 4 (31:08):
Who's Daddy Yankee? And how is he head of the Beatles?
I probably wouldn't put him out of the Beatles on
my lists. He's got a big following.

Speaker 5 (31:16):
Who is he?

Speaker 6 (31:17):
He's like a rapper, He's been around a long time.

Speaker 5 (31:20):
Daddy.

Speaker 4 (31:20):
First of all, I ain't calling somebody Daddy Yankee.

Speaker 7 (31:25):
Who's nackt free bird?

Speaker 5 (31:27):
Free bird?

Speaker 12 (31:28):
Go ahead, hey guys, Glad everybody's back, and Merry Christmas.

Speaker 11 (31:34):
Man.

Speaker 12 (31:35):
I've called the pre show and got Shannon's take on
this and Mariosh about I know we're having JMI stuff here.
Do you think or do you know any knowledge if
any of these other schools are having issues?

Speaker 4 (31:49):
Well, as I understand it, and again I don't fully
understand it, and I'm trying to understand it a little more.
But as I understand it, the contract that we're doing
is just different than the other ones. And that's why
this is happening, is the And again, I think it's
an issue that really affects elite basketball players. I don't

(32:10):
think it affects average players. I don't think it affects
football players. I think is an issue for elite basketball players.
Let's use the example of Christian Collins. He signs with Crocs. Okay,
Crocs is not an official partner of UK Athletics because it's.

Speaker 5 (32:27):
A huge national company.

Speaker 4 (32:29):
Your average offensive lineman is not gonna have a chance
to sign with Crocs, you know. So I think it
actually affects just kind of elite college basketball player.

Speaker 6 (32:41):
Yeah, it's actually works out really well for Olympic sports
like volleyball. I'm sure they're getting things they would normally get.
I see the Clark's Pumping Shop commercials. But a guy
like Stokes, who's gonna have a mega Nike deal. I
mean he's He's got a lot more options than just
about anybody else in his position.

Speaker 4 (32:56):
And it probably has an impact. I appreciate the call
on like elite quarterbacks, like if we had Diego Pavia,
it would make a difference. But we haven't had a
Diego Pavia, so it hasn't made a difference yet.

Speaker 2 (33:08):
I'll ask you a question that guy asked me, So
let's just use that example. Collins and Crocs. He comes
here to Kentucky and the Croc want to do a
national ad campaign with him. He can't wear anything Kentucky.
Crocs demands he wears red and black in the commercial.

Speaker 4 (33:21):
I don't think it's the demand. You're wearing red and
black again. I want to make sure this is true.
I'm trying to. I want to talk to them to
make sure. As I understand it, if you sign the
deal with JMI, which guarantees you the money, which is
what these players all want, like a guaranteed amount of money.

(33:43):
If Crocs wants to do an ad with Collins, they
will have to, as I understand it, go through JMI. Now,
if Collins wants to come to UK and not sign
with JMI. He's free to go do whatever he wants,
but then he's not guaranteed the money. So the issue is,

(34:04):
can we come to a system where he signs with
JAMI to be guaranteed the money, but he can also
separate from them sign with CROCS and.

Speaker 5 (34:14):
As I don't as I as I understand it, he's
free to sign with Crocs and come to the UK,
but then he won't get.

Speaker 4 (34:22):
The guaranteed money, and that I think is the rub
as I understand, but I want to if that's wrong.
I want to know that because I want to make
sure because when you hear Mitch say it, he says
correctly that you can do your own thing, but he's

(34:43):
yet to say that you could do your own thing
and still also sign with JMI.

Speaker 5 (34:47):
And so I don't know the answer to that question.

Speaker 6 (34:50):
Do you see the cryptic message Collins put out with
this and says, if you see me with a deal,
you know I made that decision. Is that like.

Speaker 4 (34:56):
A own that comn Yeah, I don't know that.

Speaker 6 (35:01):
That was a shot at jymine.

Speaker 5 (35:03):
Case to be worrying about it, but we don't.

Speaker 4 (35:05):
But again it's hard to know, Like I don't really know,
because I don't know that it's been at least to
me yet. Clear Don Franklin outto your year and in

Speaker 7 (35:40):
Stream there, that's right, Yeah, I'm contributing.

Speaker 4 (35:44):
Welcome back Tech you sports radio uh text machine seven
seven two seven seven four five two five four one
person rights, Matt. Do you think Mark Pope can continue
coaching this team effectively with his voice strain in him
not being able to yell? It's gotta be hard, though,
I mean, I'm sure he can do it, but it's
gotta be hard.

Speaker 5 (36:03):
You guys better do what I say. But like they say,
he said a month, didn't he.

Speaker 6 (36:10):
He's gotta get that figured out, you're head coach Kentucky.
You're gonna do some yelling and it's not going away
anytime soon.

Speaker 5 (36:15):
I mean, that must be really strained vocal cords.

Speaker 4 (36:17):
I mean, I've lost my voice before and it's like two, three,
four days.

Speaker 5 (36:22):
And it's back. But he's been like that for a while.

Speaker 4 (36:26):
Apparently it all stemmed from, like the Michigan State game
up in New York.

Speaker 2 (36:31):
The one thing it helps that is rest and he
does a zero time to rest that voice right now
coaching a basketball team.

Speaker 4 (36:36):
But how could you scream so much in one game
that you lose your voice for two months?

Speaker 6 (36:42):
Yes, and we were watching him in that game. I
don't remember a lot of screaming. That was one of
the staring off in the Space games. It must have
been bad. Yeah, must have done it a halftime or
after the game.

Speaker 5 (36:52):
You know.

Speaker 2 (36:53):
He got a lot of pushback from the Gonzaga game.
People say, were just standing over there with these arms crossed.

Speaker 4 (36:58):
Yeah, I don't know what I mean. There are some
coaches like cal couldn't do it. No, no, cow would
have physically exploded. Rick would have been the same way.
By the way, I was on a Saint John's I
was on a Saint John's podcast last night. I tweeted
it out you can watch it, and we previewed the game.

(37:18):
Learned a lot of stuff about the Saint John's team
we're playing. They have a lot of the same issues
we do. They don't have a point guard and they
can't shoot, and that's been their problem this year.

Speaker 5 (37:31):
So we're gonna be kind of looking in the mirror.

Speaker 4 (37:34):
Although we may now have a point guards, but they
don't have a point guard and they have not been
able to shoot. And like petitely Rick Tinos, last year's
team could shoot, and they say Bryce Hopkins is against
the good teams.

Speaker 5 (37:45):
Been very disappointed.

Speaker 6 (37:47):
Yeah, he's called him out publicly. There's even been some benching.
He's with a fire under him. I know that breaks
Shannon's heart because that's his boy, but he's he's still one.
I'm worried about having a breakout game when he sees
that logo across the.

Speaker 4 (37:58):
Beating Bryce Hopkins once are we supposed to beat Bryce?
Is this Bryce Hopkins? Is this his fourth school in Kentucky, Providence, Georgetown,
Saint John's.

Speaker 6 (38:10):
No, I don't think he ever made it to Georgetown.
It was rumored he was gonna go there and ended
up in Saint John's. I think it's just three and
five years.

Speaker 7 (38:17):
Saw Aaron Bradshaw last night playing for Memphis.

Speaker 5 (38:19):
Yeah, so yeah.

Speaker 4 (38:20):
This guy right here was just telling me is Penny
Hardaway says.

Speaker 7 (38:24):
He is taking his inile money.

Speaker 4 (38:26):
He is finding Aaron Bradshaw in ile money every time
he doesn't do something.

Speaker 5 (38:31):
I don't think that's legal.

Speaker 6 (38:33):
I don't think it is either.

Speaker 7 (38:34):
Apparently he's having a hard time showing up on time.

Speaker 6 (38:37):
He charged him three thousand dollars for being laid, Ye
find him three thousand for something else.

Speaker 4 (38:42):
I've never heard of college coaches doing that. I don't
know if you're allowed to do it, but I guess you're.
A rule is not a rule without a punishment. So
unless somebody does something, I guess he can do it.
What do you think about finding players for not showing up.

Speaker 2 (38:55):
The oh those days of just you know, running the
stairs and sitting at half of basketball. I guess those
days maybe over now. Ain't gonna take some of your money,
hurt you a little more.

Speaker 4 (39:03):
I feel like Aaron Bradshaw played here in like the forties,
like Bryce Hopkins too.

Speaker 5 (39:09):
I mean Bryce Hopkins what team was he on?

Speaker 6 (39:12):
He was on five years ago?

Speaker 5 (39:15):
I mean, which one was he on? I get confused
with all these teams.

Speaker 4 (39:20):
Yeah, see if the COVID team was like BJ Boston,
Terrence Clark, and who was the next year's team? Who
were the best players on the team that ended in
twenty two? Was that Oscar's first year?

Speaker 6 (39:32):
Yeah? I think that was a Bryce year too, So.

Speaker 5 (39:35):
That was Oscar? That was Bryce Severe, Damian co Toppin.

Speaker 6 (39:43):
We should know this, but I've blacked the last few
years of Kentucky basketball in my brain.

Speaker 5 (39:47):
What.

Speaker 4 (39:49):
No, that was the COVID year team. Jacob Toppen I
think was on that team. Then the next year was Oscar.
I think topping was gone?

Speaker 2 (40:00):
Was ty ty? Ty was in the first Oscar year, right?

Speaker 4 (40:04):
And then the second year, the second one was Casey Right.

Speaker 6 (40:08):
That was the year we lost to uh so the
case Wallace Livingston. That group beat Bryce Hopkins.

Speaker 4 (40:16):
Lost to Saint Peter's Yes, right, yes, and then Caseon
and Oscar beat lost to Kansas State.

Speaker 6 (40:23):
Yeah, they beat Bryce hoff.

Speaker 4 (40:25):
And then the next year's read Rob and all those guys,
And am I right about that?

Speaker 5 (40:30):
Those years they get muddled to me?

Speaker 4 (40:32):
Your head and I can't. I can't keep them all together.
Who's next, Steve, Steve, what's up Steve?

Speaker 6 (40:38):
Hey?

Speaker 10 (40:38):
Guys, you remember back when when Mitch Higher Mark Poe uh,
the one question was can't he recruit at a high level?

Speaker 5 (40:47):
Yes, everybody?

Speaker 10 (40:48):
I see for myself, I was a little nervous about
the Higher and then he had all this success last year.
I really am just at a loss to understand why
UK would get jm I so much power. I'm recruiting
is hard enough when you don't have your hands tide
behind your back. Offense matters, results matter, the coach matters.

(41:08):
This should have already been addressed. I don't understand why
we're still talking about this is if something that you think,
because I gotta say I disagree with your point that
we can afford to miss out on these two top
ten recruits that were literally waiting to sign with UK
because I think we needed those guys and a strong
portal class.

Speaker 5 (41:25):

The Burden

The Burden

The Burden is a documentary series that takes listeners into the hidden places where justice is done (and undone). It dives deep into the lives of heroes and villains. And it focuses a spotlight on those who triumph even when the odds are against them. Season 5 - The Burden: Death & Deceit in Alliance On April Fools Day 1999, 26-year-old Yvonne Layne was found murdered in her Alliance, Ohio home. David Thorne, her ex-boyfriend and father of one of her children, was instantly a suspect. Another young man admitted to the murder, and David breathed a sigh of relief, until the confessed murderer fingered David; “He paid me to do it.” David was sentenced to life without parole. Two decades later, Pulitzer winner and podcast host, Maggie Freleng (Bone Valley Season 3: Graves County, Wrongful Conviction, Suave) launched a “live” investigation into David's conviction alongside Jason Baldwin (himself wrongfully convicted as a member of the West Memphis Three). Maggie had come to believe that the entire investigation of David was botched by the tiny local police department, or worse, covered up the real killer. Was Maggie correct? Was David’s claim of innocence credible? In Death and Deceit in Alliance, Maggie recounts the case that launched her career, and ultimately, “broke” her.” The results will shock the listener and reduce Maggie to tears and self-doubt. This is not your typical wrongful conviction story. In fact, it turns the genre on its head. It asks the question: What if our champions are foolish? Season 4 - The Burden: Get the Money and Run “Trying to murder my father, this was the thing that put me on the path.” That’s Joe Loya and that path was bank robbery. Bank, bank, bank, bank, bank. In season 4 of The Burden: Get the Money and Run, we hear from Joe who was once the most prolific bank robber in Southern California, and beyond. He used disguises, body doubles, proxies. He leaped over counters, grabbed the money and ran. Even as the FBI was closing in. It was a showdown between a daring bank robber, and a patient FBI agent. Joe was no ordinary bank robber. He was bright, articulate, charismatic, and driven by a dark rage that he summoned up at will. In seven episodes, Joe tells all: the what, the how… and the why. Including why he tried to murder his father. Season 3 - The Burden: Avenger Miriam Lewin is one of Argentina’s leading journalists today. At 19 years old, she was kidnapped off the streets of Buenos Aires for her political activism and thrown into a concentration camp. Thousands of her fellow inmates were executed, tossed alive from a cargo plane into the ocean. Miriam, along with a handful of others, will survive the camp. Then as a journalist, she will wage a decades long campaign to bring her tormentors to justice. Avenger is about one woman’s triumphant battle against unbelievable odds to survive torture, claim justice for the crimes done against her and others like her, and change the future of her country. Season 2 - The Burden: Empire on Blood Empire on Blood is set in the Bronx, NY, in the early 90s, when two young drug dealers ruled an intersection known as “The Corner on Blood.” The boss, Calvin Buari, lived large. He and a protege swore they would build an empire on blood. Then the relationship frayed and the protege accused Calvin of a double homicide which he claimed he didn’t do. But did he? Award-winning journalist Steve Fishman spent seven years to answer that question. This is the story of one man’s last chance to overturn his life sentence. He may prevail, but someone’s gotta pay. The Burden: Empire on Blood is the director’s cut of the true crime classic which reached #1 on the charts when it was first released half a dozen years ago. Season 1 - The Burden In the 1990s, Detective Louis N. Scarcella was legendary. In a city overrun by violent crime, he cracked the toughest cases and put away the worst criminals. “The Hulk” was his nickname. Then the story changed. Scarcella ran into a group of convicted murderers who all say they are innocent. They turned themselves into jailhouse-lawyers and in prison founded a lway firm. When they realized Scarcella helped put many of them away, they set their sights on taking him down. And with the help of a NY Times reporter they have a chance. For years, Scarcella insisted he did nothing wrong. But that’s all he’d say. Until we tracked Scarcella to a sauna in a Russian bathhouse, where he started to talk..and talk and talk. “The guilty have gone free,” he whispered. And then agreed to take us into the belly of the beast. Welcome to The Burden.
