Now here's Matt Jones.
Speaker 4 (00:36):
Welcome everyone, Kentucky Sports Radio, Friday, December the nineteenth. I

where University of Kentucky students who graduate in December are graduating.
The first sessions going on right now. They are piled
down downtown and we are at the studio. Gives the
Clark Swumping Shop phone line eight five nine two eighth

In this distion sponsored by the TJ Smith Lofus. You
call TJ, He'll make them pay. It is Don Franklin
Hyundai Summrset Virtual Takeover. Yes, we are not in Somerset
because we thought we'd be on the road, but we
are here and that means on the fourth quarter and
you need options. Twenty nine stores and over six thousand

vehicles across the Bluegrass. It's Don Franklin Auto. They're ready
when you are, guys. Big weekend coming up. Kentucky plays
Saint John's on Saturday. But more importantly, we're headed to
the NCAA Championship game.
Speaker 5 (01:35):
Thanks for that. Volleyball were last.
Speaker 3 (01:38):
Nice.
Speaker 5 (01:39):
What a victory.
Speaker 4 (01:40):
So really like volleyball might be the most tent sport
World Series Baseball and volleyball. I I did a rare
pacing around my house.
Speaker 5 (01:55):
You paced, I paced.
Speaker 4 (01:56):
I had to have a meeting at ten thirty via phone,
so I went to the bar and watched the first
two sets, right into the third set, and I went home,
had the meeting virtually, and then watched the end of
the fourth and the start of the fifth, or all
the fifth. That's just I don't know how person's supposed
to have their heart work after watching that I can't
(02:18):
imagine like being a family memory. It's so tense and
everybody's spiking and they're digging and they're setting, and I
am an expert by the end and I'm like, set better,
you know. And then Eva Hudson gets the great play
at the end the delay car drew. It was so
exciting to get the win. And now they play Texas
(02:40):
A and M for a title. And it felt like
there were some rallies in there that lasted like five minutes. Yeah,
I mean, it was just back and forth, back and forth.
Both sides were makeing an unbelievable place.
Speaker 6 (02:50):
And you know, maybe it's common to just get your
digs and get your hand down there and get off
the floor, and it amazes me how they're able to
do that.
Speaker 5 (02:56):
That's the most impressive thing to me.
Speaker 4 (02:58):
The two things that I just fascinate me about volleyball
ay every team has like not every team, but some
teams have like one or two girls who can just
hit the beep out of it. Like they come in
there and they're like, oh my goodness, like a cannon.
And the taller they are.
Speaker 5 (03:12):
It's like whoa.
Speaker 4 (03:13):
And then the second thing is how do they dig
those How do they even see it? You know, like
I mean, it's I am amazed by watching that. It's
it's actually so impressive.
Speaker 3 (03:22):
They were two really, really good teams last night, and
for the first couple of games was content had the
best player on the floor. That caught her booth.
Speaker 5 (03:29):
She was killing.
Speaker 4 (03:30):
I tried to get her suspended. Oh you did call
the NA right, uh And I said, NCAA. She should
not be allowed to keep going because she was too
good those first two cents, Well, first of all, we
were terrible.
Speaker 5 (03:42):
The first set.
Speaker 3 (03:43):
First that we were awful.
Speaker 4 (03:44):
You know, we had this huge packed house at the bar,
all these people, and we can't do anything right at
the beginning, right, that's womped they did, they look they
look nervous, but then started the second set played better.
Wisconsin got up twenty to eighteen in the second sept
and I told Drew you have to leave.
Speaker 5 (04:07):
We kicked him out.
Speaker 6 (04:08):
We got to get out.
Speaker 5 (04:08):
And it worked six.
Speaker 4 (04:10):
How about that the moment we kicked Drew out, we
went from twenty eighteen to twenty four to twenty magic
when the second sat and then go from there. So
kicking Drew out made the it worked. Packed house at
ks bar. Nice saw someome harmonica guy played his song
saw your video click now.
Speaker 5 (04:29):
A couple things.
Speaker 4 (04:30):
I can't say a lot because I had to go
for this meeting, so maybe everybody had meetings. But we
did have some people I think give up halfway through
the third who well, some people left.
Speaker 3 (04:40):
Happened to the third?
Speaker 4 (04:42):
Or was it when we lost the third? Maybe it
was when we lost the third. I think people were like,
oh no, But then probably two thirds of the people stayed.
And for the ones that stayed, Mario shows it online
like it was excellent, and it was, and it's it's
cool to get that victory. And now you play a
Texas A and M team that you've a what are
you be eaten?
Speaker 5 (05:01):
This year? To win the whole thing?
Speaker 6 (05:03):
And I'm feeling good because, as I said, they looked
kind of tense in that match pretty early last night,
but then something clicked there at the end and when
he got to the fifth set and they showed our
huddle and h Kentucky's team was like laughing and goofing off.
You could tell there was like a weight off their
shoulders and I feel like they got their nervous the
nerves out of the way and they'll be ready to
go on Sunday. I'm feeling good about it. I feel
like we're definitely good.
Speaker 4 (05:24):
They already had their scare and they survived it. Now,
first of all, Eva Hudson best athlete, Channing?
Speaker 5 (05:31):
Channing? Are you going to answer the phone? The past?
I can't forget?
Speaker 6 (05:34):
Okay, here's the deal.
Speaker 3 (05:35):
I can't get logged in to see the.
Speaker 5 (05:37):
Calls, so you can't see when it's right.
Speaker 2 (05:40):
So you're seeing callers that I can't even get that
screen to open on my computer right now does and
they're trying to help us get You can't answer the phone.
I can't answer anything, all right when.
Speaker 4 (05:48):
I see you folks trying to call. Hopefully it'll work
in a minute. But what happened? What's different about today than.
Speaker 2 (05:55):
Log in and normally you just open it up and
it's there. Today it's going we need to pass and
I'm going I don't have a pass.
Speaker 4 (06:01):
You all don't know any pass. Gusta, well, I just
saw him. Is he not giving it to you? Okay? Well, anyway,
Eva Hudson, she's awesome. Is she the best? I mean,
she's my favorite athlete. I wouldn't want to fight her.
Speaker 3 (06:17):
She came to the UK because she was teammates with
Lindsay Carr Perdue.
Speaker 4 (06:20):
So let's go back Andrew Carr comes here to play bass? Yes,
are we winning the national championship in part because Andrew
Carr can't here.
Speaker 5 (06:29):
To play bass? Because he comes here to play basketball?
Speaker 4 (06:33):
And then his sister Lizzie decides to come play volleyball.
I don't know, I'm sure it had something to do
with it may not have been solely to do it.
And then Eva Hudson's like, well, if Lizzie's coming, I'm
coming to, baby, coming.
Speaker 5 (06:45):
To and they're like two of our three best players.
Speaker 3 (06:48):
We know Andrew Carr a lot of gratitude for set
and sending those two girls our way because they were awesome.
Speaker 5 (06:52):
We could use him on the basketball team too.
Speaker 4 (06:54):
He can make a shot, you know, if we don't
have Mark Pope, we don't have Andrew Carr and Mark
Pope that lose Oakland.
Speaker 6 (07:00):
So in some ways, losing to Oakland is gonna lead
to our volleyball nationals?
Speaker 5 (07:05):
Are it is?
Speaker 6 (07:10):
Six degrees of UK volleyball, degrees of Jack gold. Hudson
is so like, she's incredible and she's the only senior
on this team. If they can finish the job with
her and retain everybody, they're gonna she probably.
Speaker 4 (07:23):
Has another year, right, Yeah, that's yeah. I mean COVID
like that went on for a while. May I think
it's still happening, so we know what to juco. We
have the Pavia rule measles.
Speaker 5 (07:35):
There's like things going on.
Speaker 6 (07:36):
Right.
Speaker 3 (07:37):
Another year, one of my friends was out there said
the stadium was filled with people rooting against Kentucky because
there are a lot of Nebraska fans there. They bought
Final four tickets thinking they were gonna be there.
Speaker 4 (07:46):
Why would they root against us? What beef do we
have with Nebraska? Is this a Dane Key beef?
Speaker 3 (07:51):
I mean, I don't know what it is. But he
said they were like all rooting against Kentucky.
Speaker 4 (07:54):
Yeah, Nebraska fans all came assuming to be Nebraska.
Speaker 3 (07:57):
Right But oh no, my friend, no, no, no.
Speaker 5 (08:00):
No, that is uh, that's not what's happening.
Speaker 3 (08:03):
We're going to all SEC final now.
Speaker 5 (08:06):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (08:06):
So, by the way, Kentucky's the only SEC team to
ever win a title and now one of them will get.
The SEC has really not been This is the big
volleyball has been Packed twelve back when that existed and
Big ten that that have been the SEC. We were
the first SEC team to ever win it. Wow, so
uh you know the SEC continuing. It's now domination of
(08:28):
every sport.
Speaker 3 (08:29):
Well, it was exciting to watch it last night. The
good group of girls they get keep falling behind these
big matches, but you can't give up on them, because man,
they've got some heart coming back, battle back.
Speaker 4 (08:38):
They are eight and one after losing the first set up,
which is amazing. It's a pretty amazing statistic.
Speaker 6 (08:44):
How do you think about on Sunday, I go pregame
and leave after the first we.
Speaker 5 (08:48):
Got to talk about watching is at three thirty.
Speaker 4 (08:51):
First of all, if you're not there Sunday to watch
at the bar, then I don't know what's wrong with you.
Because that was late at night last night and people
were still rolling and like we did even get normally
there like kids they have school, so like it was
mostly oh, it was mostly like college kids and older folks.
But this Sunday it'll be a heck of an atmosphere.
Now you I have to fly to New Orleans during
(09:14):
the game. Oh, I'm gonna have to try to get
on the WI fi and follow it. My flight is
during the game, so you two are gonna have to
hold it down. I'll definitely be You're gonna hold it down. Yeah,
But the moment it goes badly, we got to send
him home. I think you have to start the max
because you just have to be there. This man a
little bit, but you have to start watching some of
(09:34):
it because there'll be a moment the crowd collectively will
send you out.
Speaker 5 (09:40):
Oh.
Speaker 6 (09:40):
Twitter last night blew up.
Speaker 4 (09:41):
When we lost the first set people, it was like
nineteen eighteen and I said, if Wisconsin scores this point,
get out of here. And they scored it, and he
followed the orders. Yes, he walked out six straight points
for kids.
Speaker 3 (09:55):
Amazing. It's exciting.
Speaker 4 (09:57):
You have to be in there until there's a moment
that you have to leak. If they go up one,
oh I'm out for sure. But even like you know,
maybe even before I'll let I'll let the crowd.
Speaker 6 (10:09):
One point one point to lead. We can't play games.
I mean, if we lose one point, I gotta go.
This is the National champions One. People will actually get
mad at me. There are some people that think this
is really That's why I'm not messing around Sunday. It's
partially your fault my basketball record. And there's even worse.
Speaker 4 (10:29):
Uh. A couple of observations. Having watched both the games,
three of the four coaches males who are bald in
the final four.
Speaker 3 (10:37):
Can we say something about Wisconsin head coach?
Speaker 4 (10:40):
Every time he says, can I whisper it? Tomorrio a
male he's talking about to Mario, and Mario can decide
whether or not we can say it. Okay, all right,
this is on you.
Speaker 5 (10:52):
All right, it's on you.
Speaker 3 (10:53):
He looked like a James Bond villain.
Speaker 6 (10:55):
Like all the things you could have said, that would
be the least worry something to me, I would have
thought it would much worse.
Speaker 3 (11:01):
Okay, a little scary. He kind of scared me, all right.
Speaker 5 (11:07):
I didn't.
Speaker 4 (11:07):
I didn't get that vibe from watching him. I got
the vibe that the woman in the first two cents,
I didn't want her on the team, Carter Booth, Carter Booth.
Speaker 6 (11:16):
Sounds like a basketball player from Maryland, And I was like,
I don't I want Carter Booth got That's what I
was worried. They had all the attitude and the energy, especially.
Speaker 4 (11:25):
We're kind of lucky to win the second set. I
still don't think we were playing that great. I don't
really think we started playing well until the fourth bort
set and then you know, but we squeezed out that
second one, and then I did think in the fourth
and fifth we were kind of rolling after that.
Speaker 6 (11:39):
Yeah, we had our scare. We survived it. Let's just
go sweep A and M on Sunday and get this
second title.
Speaker 3 (11:44):
What was the score when we played A and M
this season?
Speaker 5 (11:46):
I don't remember. I don't know which the four.
Speaker 3 (11:50):
I learned something new last night. I hear him talk
about I didn't know what a pancake was in volleyball.
Speaker 5 (11:54):
So that's when you get your hand in between the
floor and the ball, right right.
Speaker 3 (11:58):
I'd never heard that before.
Speaker 5 (11:59):
I I think I said this. Did I say something?
I didn't realize you.
Speaker 6 (12:03):
Could reach over the net long you don't touch it, right,
I don't think. I don't think I like that rule
and everybody stay in their space.
Speaker 4 (12:11):
Well, I mean, I it feels like to me that
if you can reach over the net, that's way an
incentive to have like an eight foot tall person on
the team and.
Speaker 6 (12:21):
Dunk it down.
Speaker 5 (12:22):
Yeah. I just didn't know.
Speaker 4 (12:23):
I assumed you had to be straight above the net.
I did not realize you could reach over the net.
I also thought the one girl, she hurt our girl
on purpose. She her foot went on our side.
Speaker 3 (12:34):
I did see that.
Speaker 5 (12:35):
I thought that should have been two shots in the ball, but.
Speaker 3 (12:38):
They didn't count it because they said it has to
be her whole foot.
Speaker 5 (12:40):
What does that mean? It has to be her whole
her whole foot.
Speaker 4 (12:44):
You can land on a toe, and if the point
is keeping from turn your ankle, why does it matter
if it's your whole foot.
Speaker 3 (12:50):
You step on an out of bounds line.
Speaker 4 (12:51):
In basketball, it feels like there's a lot of encroaching
in other people's property. You can reach over the net,
you can kick your heels, but oh but God forbid
you touch the net.
Speaker 6 (13:03):
I'm with you, you can't.
Speaker 4 (13:04):
You shouldn't be crossing that line. Us say this pre replay.
They had to have gotten every call wrong. You know,
when they spike it that hard, if it went off
the girl's fingers, could you say that before replay? I
would have just been yelling at the refs, non stuff.
There's no way they can know, Like when I'm watching
(13:26):
in real time, if it goes long. I never have
any idea who won the point until I see where
the guy you know what I mean, because I don't
know if it hit their fingers or not. When it
hits the ground, you can tell, but when it goes
off their fingers or doesn't long, How do people know
whether or not you.
Speaker 6 (13:43):
Had been kicked out of every match arguing call?
Speaker 4 (13:45):
I can't imagine that sport pre replay because you had
to people had to have gotten it wrong all the time.
Speaker 5 (13:52):
Right.
Speaker 6 (13:53):
Oh yeah, and is there a my favorite thing they
were doing last night? Is there a name for the
move where you act like you're gonna like it and
then you just give it the old little dude?
Speaker 5 (14:01):
I like the dude.
Speaker 6 (14:02):
We were calling it the sneak attack. I don't know
what it is, but it worked.
Speaker 5 (14:05):
It worked three or four times. Yeah, I like that.
Speaker 6 (14:08):
I think it might have been I can't remember who did.
Maybe it's O'Brien. She did a no look, no little
I love it, like I'm over here. I felt like
there was more of that in that match than in
the others I've watched. There was a lot more pews.
Speaker 4 (14:18):
Yeah, yeah, I think it's I think it's a side
and I think that's we had some good we had
what a key one in the fifth said, I was
surprised she tried to pew right there, and then she
did eight five nine twenty two eighty seven. Text machine
is seven seven two seven seven four five two five four?
Is your phone working now, Channing?
Speaker 5 (14:36):
Can you see it? No, it's not all right. Well
Tristan is on the phone. Who answered that? I don't know.
Speaker 4 (14:41):
Well, maybe Kevin is calling. Well, well, we'll see. We
might have calls someone someone is answering this phone.
Speaker 3 (14:49):
Who is in the other studio. All right, we'll see
if we can.
Speaker 5 (14:52):
Thank you for your help. We'll take a break and
be right back. KSR. Welcome back, take you sports Radio.
Speaker 4 (14:58):
It is Don Franklin, Hundai Somerset takeover day back roads
to job sites. The Franklin Truck League is built for mud,
muscle and miles just like me, more capability, more grit.
Where legends are built at Don Franklin Ato. So apparently
they're not called pew's. Uh, they're called dumps. So we
were taking a lot of dumps last night and uh
(15:21):
scoring points. Pew's much better?
Speaker 5 (15:24):
Is it really called a dump?
Speaker 6 (15:26):
According uh to a couple of messages we received from
ball knowers.
Speaker 5 (15:31):
I mean, come on, that's a horrible name. Key had
seven dumps.
Speaker 3 (15:38):
Right now your line on the broadcast, I.
Speaker 5 (15:42):
Was gonna have.
Speaker 4 (15:43):
I was gonna because you know, she also knows will Stein,
so I was gonna see if we could get her
on today.
Speaker 5 (15:47):
But I don't have her number, so I don't know
how to get she's listening.
Speaker 4 (15:52):
Free feel free to call in fellow Louivillion expert sports
Person of the Year in Louisville with me year. Oh yeah,
it was me her and American Pharaoh Weald. Do you
all have a group yet? I hope you all that
went into.
Speaker 6 (16:09):
It was it was the three of us here.
Speaker 5 (16:11):
What a group? What a group?
Speaker 4 (16:12):
You know?
Speaker 6 (16:13):
I went to the party. The other two didn't come.
I was like, I want to be the American Pharaoh.
Speaker 3 (16:17):
Didn't make it American.
Speaker 4 (16:18):
I don't think anybody took it there ef. I'm nine
to two eighth, twenty two eighty seven. People are riding in.
Some folks watched one of their first volleyball games last night.
One person rides Matt. I remember your caller saying this.
I still don't understand the rotations. Can any of your
listeners explain, I don't either. I don't understand when people
go in and out. When I was in school, you
had to rotate out and you had to wait your turn,
(16:39):
and then you rotate it back in. Now it seems
like it's just willy nilly. And my argument would be,
it feels like they sub a lot. If you can
just do whatever, why don't you pick your leave your
best girls in? I guess so they don't get tired,
But I don't know. I don't understand the subbing at all.
I don't understand the survey. I don't understand who get win.
Its who's turn to serve? Like, if it's your turn
(17:01):
to serve, why don't they just take that person out?
If they're that one girl's tripped over the floor for
West comm did what happens? The floor just jumped up
and got her. I didn't understand. But I don't so
I don't understand that.
Speaker 6 (17:14):
Really, I'm not that far into my knowledge. I just
now learned about dumps. I'm trying everyone I've enjoyed, I
really enjoyed, but I just don't know.
Speaker 4 (17:21):
The sport was so when they won the national championship
last time, I watched like the last three matches, but
we were at the bar and I was kind of
just having fun. I didn't pay deep, deep attention to it.
I have watched more volleyball this year than my entire
life combined. I really enjoy it. I think it's a
really good sport. It has now moved for me on
(17:41):
my Kentucky sports experience to at least fourth, and it's
challenging for third. I mean, it's it's women's basketball, and
it are competing now. Although I do like our women's
basketball team a lot, but I love how fast paced
it is. I love how happy everyone is. I love
that they seem like they're fun young women on.
Speaker 3 (18:00):
There and they're really really good, and they're good, and.
Speaker 4 (18:03):
There's a lot you can feel the athleticism because these
girls jump so high in the air.
Speaker 5 (18:09):
So yeah, I love it. I am a fan.
Speaker 4 (18:12):
I'd like I wish I could go to Kansas City. Honestly,
I think it would be fun to be there. You
think our fan bates.
Speaker 3 (18:18):
Maybe one little reason they're getting so excited about it
because the apathy from football and basketball.
Speaker 4 (18:21):
It's because we're good. I mean, at the end of
the day, we want to be good. Right, right, So
like everybody got on the College World Series runs, right,
we want to be good. We're Kentucky, we is the best,
Like we want to be good, and I think the
fact that we're good. And then these girls and Craig
have done a great job of engaging with the fan base.
Everything we've complained about UK athletics with marketing, they're doing
(18:44):
it right, you know what I mean, Like they're doing
it right, and it's good lessons for these other sports
and what they're doing.
Speaker 6 (18:52):
Yeah, it's been so fun to watch the excitement. Heck,
be a part of the excitement. I've been becoming more
and more of a fan with each match. Went to
more of this year than I've ever been to before.
And you know, Craig's such a great guy too, and
it's been here so for so long. It's just so
easy to root for this team.
Speaker 5 (19:05):
Apparently.
Speaker 6 (19:06):
Yeah, Eva's already signed a pro contract, so she can't
come back to get a ring.
Speaker 5 (19:12):
We do we do, uh need to get a ring.
Speaker 6 (19:15):
I don't know how they hit it so hard when
I was in Like we'd play at church, you know,
I'd get a little bruise right there, and I need
to take breaks.
Speaker 4 (19:22):
When I played Transylvania B League volleyball, you were not
allowed to like, oh, like do this. Yeah we can't
show it, but you were not allowed to like take
the two of your hands and like woo. But it
seems like they do that there blocking over the top
of the No, not the blocking, but like imagine instead
(19:43):
of spiking on the third one, they just go and like.
Speaker 6 (19:48):
There was a moment last night I think that someone
from Wisconsin held the ball and did like a finger roll.
Speaker 5 (19:52):
I was like, I don't think you could do this.
Weren't allowed to do that. They used to.
Speaker 4 (19:55):
Russ Rigby told me I couldn't do that in Transylvania Intermural.
So those were your career Go oh god, I could
have been a contender.
Speaker 6 (20:02):
I'm with you, though. There it seems like they held
on to I don't know how you describe it, but
they held onto the ball.
Speaker 5 (20:06):
I don't know what that. I don't know what that's called.
Eight five. By the way, my mom, this is how
you know a sporting bent is hit. My mom stayed up.
Speaker 3 (20:15):
Wow.
Speaker 4 (20:15):
Remember my parents eat dinner at four point thirty, so
a nine o'clock start is late for this. Larry was
in bed, but my mom was sending me volleyball emojis
into the nine nice. Let me show you our text.
This is her last night. You need to see all
Look at these. Look at the emojis. Volleyball celebratory party thing, volleyball,
(20:39):
volleyball celebratory party for the last minute.
Speaker 3 (20:43):
Well, it's exciting, it's fun. And you they started making
this comeback, you couldn't quit watching. You had to watch
it throughout.
Speaker 4 (20:48):
Let's go to Tristan. Go ahead, Tristan, whenever you're ready. Tristan.
All right, I don't think that time has come. Kevin,
go ahead, Kevin. You can hang up on Tristan now,
so that there we go. Kevin, go ahead, Kevin.
Speaker 2 (21:07):
Hello, Yes, all right, this isn't gonna work. It doesn't
sound like so they can't hear me. It doesn't seem
like it.
Speaker 6 (21:17):
Well, the one good thing is that we're still having
the technological issues.
Speaker 3 (21:21):
Yeah, we're consistent.
Speaker 5 (21:22):
We're consistently folks will try to get it to work
and hang.
Speaker 3 (21:26):
On to that day. The calls went to the Leland
Conway Show. During our show, we got their call lines
got messed up.
Speaker 5 (21:31):
People were like, my Barack Obama work for Rock.
Speaker 4 (21:39):
I was like, all right, Kentucky, Saint John's that happens
on Saturday twelve thirty. Excited about the game. You and
I were talking about this last night. You think we're
gonna win. Let me answer the.
Speaker 6 (21:53):
Part about being excited first. Okay, very excited, ten out
of ten excited. I was downstairs before the show and
getting coffee and talking about it people in the line.
Speaker 4 (22:01):
I'm fired up. I do have some concerns. I'm a
little worried. I'll admit they're worried. By the way I
was on the podcast with him, They're worried. They don't
think they don't.
Speaker 6 (22:10):
Their defense has been awesome. Like the last three or
four games, they can't shoot and don't have point guard,
and they've shot a little better of the last couple
of games. They've kind of hit another level here recently.
I worry about us getting in the half court in
a physical game with them, even though they played with
some pace. I just worry about their defense and their toughness.
And I worry that Mark Pope has some kind of
complex with Patino where there's an intimidation factor there too.
(22:31):
But what if Jaden Quaintans comes out first of all,
is he playing yes or no without having any actual knowledge.
Speaker 3 (22:38):
I think he's playing like he's getting a couple of minutes. Yep.
Speaker 4 (22:41):
I've heard that UK kind of wanted him to start
against Bellermann and Jaden Quaints has been like, I want
to play in this game, and that maybe that's one
act night put him out there.
Speaker 5 (22:52):
So let's get him out there. Yep.
Speaker 4 (22:54):
I feel I don't know what I feel, but I
think we can win. I don't think this is like
not a possibility. We'll take a break right back. TJ
Smith personal injury attorney. Call TJ.
Speaker 6 (23:05):
He'll make them pay.
Speaker 2 (23:06):
Now more of Kentucky Sports Radio present it by Stockton Mortgage.
Speaker 3 (23:10):
Here's Matt Jones.
Speaker 5 (23:11):
Welcome back.
Speaker 4 (23:12):
All right, folks on the phone, We're gonna have to
reset the computer at the end of the hour so
you can hang up and call back to start south
a second hour. I'd love to get you on, but
apparently that's what's happening. So we're gonna have to reset
the computer if we turn it. If we reset it
right now, then we lose the podcast. So we're gonna
have to do it at the end of the hour.
So those of you call him sorry, I'll have to
(23:32):
get to you after that. You can buy with back up.
Speaker 6 (23:35):
Every qualifying part back by a five year warranty at
Don Franklin Quality Installed peace of Mind included mile after mile.
Speaker 4 (23:41):
I just got my thing, Ryan. Two point thirty on
Monday is my meeting with the Western Kentucky head coaches
along with the TV broadcast. I get to meet my guy,
Ian Fitzsimmons. What up, coach? Uh, I'm looking forward to it.
And then I'm meeting Southern Miss that night.
Speaker 3 (23:57):
Do you have like some questions likened?
Speaker 4 (23:59):
Now? Oh?
Speaker 3 (24:00):
Get some info? Ready to go?
Speaker 5 (24:01):
Ask him? What's there to ask him?
Speaker 4 (24:03):
The only thing I have to say, Shannon, I found
out that the Southern Miss punters thirty and a freshman.
Speaker 3 (24:08):
Wow, that's incredible.
Speaker 5 (24:10):
Punter is thirty years old and a freshman?
Speaker 2 (24:13):
Does it?
Speaker 5 (24:13):
Going a long way with that factoid?
Speaker 3 (24:16):
Yeah, that gets you through at least the first quarter.
What what if there's no punts?
Speaker 4 (24:20):
Though?
Speaker 2 (24:20):
That would be at all You're just talking about a's
not even on the field.
Speaker 6 (24:26):
I'm telling you, I got a big fact coming first
and ten and you just started talking about the punner.
Speaker 3 (24:31):
That's just the fourth to twenty. We're going for it?
Speaker 5 (24:34):
What are you doing?
Speaker 6 (24:35):
I have a fact.
Speaker 4 (24:37):
He's the oldest player in college football and he's a freshman.
It's got four more years, four more years. Don't don't
give away all your info now, sneak Pete. Yeah, he's Australia,
thirty years old. Uh, Max should be your first caller.
The one person, says Matt. You can substitute it in
(25:00):
one person a peer a game, but the libero can
come in and out whenever.
Speaker 5 (25:09):
There you go.
Speaker 3 (25:11):
Yeah, because I don't understanding that. Like the Kentucky subs
in that Brezewis girl to serve, like they just bring
her in for a serf. So she kind of like
we got help.
Speaker 5 (25:21):
They they serve. They would serve it out quite a bit,
which I was thankful for.
Speaker 6 (25:26):
Yeah, they made some some costly mistakes and Kentucky took advantage.
Like looking at the stats, you would just think Wisconsin one.
Speaker 4 (25:32):
Well they would say things like Kentucky was zero point
four oh nine in the fifth set, and I.
Speaker 6 (25:37):
Was like, wow, yeah you're volleyball my numbers.
Speaker 5 (25:42):
Wow good, that's what we need.
Speaker 6 (25:43):
Do you keep your own stats like older people doing
baseball with your own book? Are you sitting there writing down.
I don't know what you're supposed to supposed to do exertise.
Speaker 4 (25:51):
Every time they get ready to spike, I hold my
breath right because it feels like, you know, it feels
like that's the tense moment because and then once if
we dig it, then I'm like, all right, we got this,
and then I go and then.
Speaker 5 (26:06):
If they dig it, I'm mad at them. That's the thing.
Speaker 4 (26:09):
Is it just you're back and forth and you roller coaster.
It really is a roller coaster. Okay, there are some
rumors that we're gonna wear denim Saturday?
Speaker 5 (26:16):
Yes, do you like?
Speaker 4 (26:18):
I mean, we've talked about we want them to wear
denim for a game, but considering that we lost four games, like.
Speaker 5 (26:24):
Is this the game to do it?
Speaker 4 (26:26):
Or would you say, why don't we hang on and
for another moment because it's such a big moment. Do
you think it gets lost at twelve thirty and it
laying on a Saturday.
Speaker 3 (26:34):
I would prefer them do it at Rupparina for sure,
me too, you know, But the fact that it is
Patino on the other sideline and he's the one that
brought out the denim uniform to start with, I can
see him maybe doing it, but I hope they kind
of hold off and do it at a big event
at rub Yeah.
Speaker 6 (26:48):
I know there's the Patino connection. Now, it doesn't really
feel like the time. I'd be pretty surprised if they
broke them out this show. Oh you don't think they're
going to? I mean I could be wrong, but no,
I don't think they would.
Speaker 4 (27:00):
I think they would have for sure if we were rolling.
But I kind of wonder if you do this again,
It's twelve thirty on a Saturday. How are we not
the second game in this.
Speaker 6 (27:12):
It's a great question.
Speaker 4 (27:13):
I mean, objectively, North Carolina, Ohio State. I mean, that's
not as big a game as Kentucky Saint John's with Patino,
is it? I'm really I don't think we've ever played
in the first game in this thing. I think we've
played in the second game like every single year, and
yet I don't understand why we're playing in the first game.
Speaker 5 (27:36):
To me, isn't that arena gonna be empty after this game?
I mean, what percentage of the arena.
Speaker 6 (27:41):
Is gonna be Kentucky fans eighty? It could be the
case they just want people in there for the second game.
I know in the past when we've been second, like
when we played North Carolina in Atlanta, was that Col's
last year. We're at the bar with North Carolina fans
laughing at the broadcast of the first game because there's
not a seat.
Speaker 4 (27:59):
Well so maybe they're trying to flip it and you say, well,
you say it's not in anymore, right, so, Ohio State's
gonna have nobody there. North Carolina will have some people.
I mean Kentucky and North Carolina, yink. Saint John's has
people very few, very few, So I got Drew. Maybe right,
maybe they're just like we need someone in the arena
(28:21):
for the beginning.
Speaker 6 (28:22):
It was bad in Atlanta three years ago. We were
like laughing with Carolina.
Speaker 5 (28:26):
Fah, Kentucky and Carolina played.
Speaker 4 (28:28):
It was the same way in Vegas though, when you
see like it, when it's Kentucky Carolina, that's gonna be
the whole crowd.
Speaker 5 (28:35):
So I don't know.
Speaker 6 (28:36):
I'm just surprised this game is at twelve thirty. I mean,
we got football, and maybe they're just trying to get
the early tom slot on TV.
Speaker 4 (28:42):
Well, CBS is showing basketball all night, so they're showing
like it's like us then North Carolina, then Houston, Arkansas,
then Duke Texas Tech in primetime like they're.
Speaker 5 (28:55):
They're showing college basketball from noon on all day.
Speaker 3 (29:00):
You think they probably put the Kentucky game first. Hope
people tune in and don't tune away.
Speaker 4 (29:03):
Well, I know in the NCAA tournament they try to
put the biggest games at noon and eight. So I
have people there at the end, So maybe that's what
it is. I don't know, but I'm a little disappointed
at so early. I wish we did have some time
to build. Do you think we'll have a good crowd there.
Speaker 5 (29:19):
I think so.
Speaker 6 (29:20):
I've seen a few people on Facebook and stuff start
to put tickets up for so you know, I hope
that's not a sign of what the fan base fills
because it hadn't been a great start to the year.
But Atlanta is always a fun trip. It's easy for
a lot of the fans to make. Of course, the
Rick reunion, I think it'll be a good crowd. But
for everyone at home, you know, have you seen who
the crew is? We got we got Bruce Bruce Pearl's
(29:40):
calling the game. Yeah, that's right, with Bill with the
Bill Raftery and then Nestler. So it's a three pack
with Bruce.
Speaker 4 (29:46):
Bruce Pearl, and I mean that's a good We've we've
been very fortunate on our announcers. And just like just
like Charles Barkley, Bruce Pearl loves Kentucky. I mean he
and he speaks about it as someone who loves Kentucky.
Speaker 3 (29:59):
A lot of people didn't. They thought that Dick Vital
and Charles Bucky didn't talking enough about the game. I
don't care.
Speaker 4 (30:04):
These guys will talk about the game. They will, I mean,
Rafferty and Pearl will talk about the game, all right.
So for Speedley don't know about Saint John's. They struggled
this year against good teams. They're one and three against
good teams. Auburn beat them by a lot. Alabama played
them in what was a great game. I watched it.
They lost to Iowa State by one. They've struggled with
their point guard, they struggled with their shooting.
Speaker 5 (30:26):
Now it was right.
Speaker 4 (30:27):
They've played a little better than the last couple of games,
but the competition wasn't that great.
Speaker 5 (30:31):
I think in many ways this is a big game
for them.
Speaker 4 (30:34):
I was on the podcast with the Saint John's guys,
and they were like, we have to get a win
because the Big East doesn't give us many opportunities to
get big wins. They kind of he was saying, this
is one of the biggest games of the year for
Saint John's. Do you feel it's like that for us?
Speaker 6 (30:49):
Yeah, Kentucky can't keep taking losses in the non conference.
I mean, beating in Indiana was great, but they have
to build up this resume if they want to actually
make a tournament run. You can't just keep losing these
meaningful games and expect to have a seed that'll give
you any kind of path in March. So you need
to win this and that'll help stack and wins building momentum.
I really feel like they've turned a corner at least
in just having fun and having some chemistry out there
(31:10):
the last couple of games. We need to keep that
moving on into SEC play.
Speaker 4 (31:13):
Did you see the video of the journey video thing
they do, you know that's the behind the scenes of
UK games. Yeah, they haven't put any out this year
because we haven't beaten anybody good. I mean, I'm serious.
This is like the first big one that I've seen. Well,
they put one out for Indiana. It's actually very good
and it will give you some encouragement if you think
this team hates each other. Jalen Lowe is on the
(31:35):
Bitch and what I think is the best part of
the video, and it's at a time out and he
has this look.
Speaker 5 (31:43):
It's like a look you see in a Hallmark movie
when a woman is looking at a man she's falling for.
Speaker 4 (31:53):
Who's low looking at but his teammates, Oh, he's falling
for them in that moment, and he goes, I.
Speaker 6 (31:59):
Love you all, I really love you.
Speaker 5 (32:03):
And it was like, it's kind of beautiful. Yeah, did
you see it?
Speaker 4 (32:08):
I like it's it's like one of those Hallmark movies
where someone like comes from the big city and they
come back to the small town and they fall in
love with their high school crush and they're sitting there
and it's Christmas time and she looks at him and
she's like, he's the one I've been trying to with
these finance bros. But my love was always here. That's
(32:29):
the look Jayalen Lowe is giving to the team.
Speaker 5 (32:33):
Have you all not seen this?
Speaker 6 (32:34):
I watched the journey. I don't remember that exact part.
Speaker 5 (32:36):
Am I wrong Mario. It's on Twitter. He's just looking
at me and he's like, I love you guys. I
love you guys.
Speaker 6 (32:48):
It's beautiful.
Speaker 5 (32:49):
It's very, very beautiful. Is that I'm talking to people
that are looking at me like I'm from the movie.
I'm glad you're here. Mario Up.
Speaker 4 (32:56):
Okay, listen, I'm gonna do this weed, I'm gonna do this,
and we're going to take a break. And you all
need to have seen this so I don't feel like
I'm such an idiot about this. It was a very
Mario was It not a touching moment. It was touching
a little bit where Pope almost cusses in that video.
Speaker 6 (33:13):
It was a touching moment.
Speaker 4 (33:14):
If you're a bourbon lover and a UK fan, grab
a bottle of Club Blue bourbon. Okay, their white label
and blue label were gold medals at the Ascot Awards
and they're you're supporting athletes. It's Club Blue Bourbon. They
make a great Christmas present. Bespoken Spirits makes Club Blue
Bourbon and a point a part of your your purchase
goes to nil. It's Club Blue Bourbon. Be Spoken Spirits
(33:38):
b Spoken Spirits dot com and you can make your
own barrel for a club wedding, anniversary of birthday. It's
bespoken spirits. Why does Bob and Jamestown keep calling? I've
said to him, he has called. He's called for thirty
straight menu.
Speaker 3 (33:52):
He looks at you the way jaylen Lowe looks at
the team and says, I you're.
Speaker 5 (33:55):
Saying, but he understands. We can't even answer the phone.
And that is not stopping.
Speaker 3 (34:01):
From You can't stop Bob and Jamestown.
Speaker 2 (34:03):
You can only hope to contain them.
Speaker 4 (34:05):
We'll take a break and be right back. Mario's found
the clip. This is KASR you got me. Although this
is the Bob Seeger.
Speaker 5 (34:11):
Version, I thought that's the version you liked. I do.
I like the one with the choir the most, you
know what I'm.
Speaker 2 (34:18):
Talking about, like the more traditional version of it.
Speaker 4 (34:22):
There's one with a choir. I like this one, don't
get me wrong. And this is the last show. Well
I'll be I'll be on Monday. But so we can
we can try to find that one for that one too.
But yes, this is my favorite Christmas Carol. It's this
and do they know it's Christmas? Which is not really Christmas?
Speaker 2 (34:40):
You like the band Aid song. Oh yeah, dude, that's
the worst Christmas song ever made.
Speaker 5 (34:46):
You're the worst Christmas.
Speaker 3 (34:48):
I like, this song is horrible.
Speaker 5 (34:49):
What are you talking about? Made fun of that line?
Speaker 4 (34:55):
That line I think is stupid where he goes to
thank God it's them instead of you. But just in general,
I kind of like it. This is my favorite little
drummer boy to me is like what Christmas is about. Like, well,
I mean I do this every year. I don't have
to give my read on it again.
Speaker 5 (35:11):
But I do like it.
Speaker 4 (35:13):
It's Don Franklin Hyundai Somerset Takeover Day. You can get
up to six thousand dollars off Hundai Sonatas in Somerset
or twenty twenty five Hunday Centa Cruz models up to
thirty five hundred dollars off at Don Franklin Somerset. All right,
I'm gonna play you. This is this is the moment
I was talking about. Hang on, now you need to
see you need to see the way he looks at
(35:34):
the team too.
Speaker 5 (35:35):
But Liam keaty what let's see. This is why I
can't get anything to work.
Speaker 6 (35:43):
But he says, I love you all bro right, It's
very sweet. I can see why we can put our
concerns to bed. If we were talking about loving each
other during the game, then you also have this, which
is Mark Pope in the locker room during the Indiana game.
Speaker 5 (35:56):
He nearly curses, are allowing no frustration this game. You're
not giving to us.
Speaker 4 (36:04):
You gotta go.
Speaker 5 (36:11):
No frustration this game. You're not giving to us.
Speaker 4 (36:14):
You gotta go. He wanted to cuts, and then it's like, oh, yeah,
I have a camera on, I can't cut. We almost
got Dark Pope. Therefore we did almost get Dark Pope.
Speaker 5 (36:27):
You got, we got, we can, we can we can
bleep that. You know, he did not want it to happen.
Speaker 4 (36:35):
Saturday, by the way, is an amazing sports day's CBS.
Like I said, four straight college basketball games and involving Kentucky, Uh, Carolina,
Houston and Cal and then Duke like, you can't ask
for a better roster of teams right then? Uh, the
(36:56):
NFL has two games big one for you, big Ayars
Packers game Saturday night that's basically my for the division yep, yep,
and then the College Football.
Speaker 3 (37:05):
Playoff three games on Saturday game.
Speaker 4 (37:08):
I mean, so like Saturday is maybe the best just
sit and watch sports all day Game Day drew of
like all time, right.
Speaker 6 (37:16):
Yeah, and selfishly, I'm kind of excited that Kentucky's up first. Yeah,
we're kind of get that out of the way and
relax with our win. The rest of the I watching
football or whatever.
Speaker 4 (37:24):
Yeah, So our pregame show will start at ten ten.
You could come watch the game at the bar. We
opened at eleven, but the game starts at twelve thirty,
but the pregame show will be at ten. My postgame
show will be excuse me be after that.
Speaker 3 (37:39):
I'm really excited about it. And then I realize I've
got to do to Frederick Douglas girls basketball game Saturday night.
I have to do what PA two Frederick Douglas girls
basketball games.
Speaker 5 (37:49):
You are p a a Frederick Douglas girls JV basketball game?
Speaker 3 (37:55):
No, it's a varsity double hitter. I forgot it's varsity.
Put some respect on it. Yeah, just here.
Speaker 6 (38:02):
Why are you doing this?
Speaker 3 (38:03):
They called naskal. Yeah, I'm not can Why can't you?
Speaker 5 (38:07):
I means Saturday night?
Speaker 3 (38:08):
And like, and who's which is the football game that
Oregon Packers Saturday night?
Speaker 7 (38:13):
Who's the college game that's like Oregon James Madison, that's
the Lake game.
Speaker 6 (38:17):
That's the game because it's going up against the NFL,
so they put the worst.
Speaker 5 (38:22):
Why why are you doing that?
Speaker 7 (38:23):
You know they needed somebody to do the p A. Yeah,
I thought, well, you're not even calling the game, you're
literally like checking in yes Smith, uh huh yeah, yeah,
why are you doing that? He coach called me, what
are you doing?
Speaker 5 (38:40):
Who's their normal pa guy?
Speaker 3 (38:41):
I don't know.
Speaker 6 (38:42):
Maybe he took off to watch I'm not doing this
Playfall today. Can I use just this platform to complain
about something just for a second. Absolutely, And that's why
we have it.
Speaker 5 (38:58):
You have the floor.
Speaker 4 (38:59):
So I've decided that in twenty twenty six, I wanted
to span my food horizons.
Speaker 3 (39:04):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (39:04):
I tend to eat at like the same six eight
places right ks Bar like it's potle A, the.
Speaker 5 (39:14):
Salad bar at Whole Foods.
Speaker 4 (39:17):
So I've been read right, where are the places in
Lexington that you know are not fancy but that people
say have good food? So I kept hearing people say
you need to go eat at Tuck Tuck.
Speaker 6 (39:28):
Oh yeah, t Uk t Uk snack shop. I think
it's called Tuk Tuk's next shop.
Speaker 4 (39:35):
Yeah, it's called Tuck Tucks. It's right next to Jason's
Deli out on Nicholsville Row. Okay, all right, so I
decided last night before the volleyball game, go eat at
Tuck Tuck.
Speaker 5 (39:46):
Look on my phone. Tuck Tuck opens at five o'clock. Perfect.
Speaker 4 (39:52):
I'll be there when it opens. I'll pull my parents
and walk in and when they open the doors, get there.
It's a nice little shop, open up Tuck Tuck. It's
just two people staring at me. One guy's on his
computer and a very nice woman just looking at me.
And she goes, can I help you? And now feel Shannon,
like thrown off guard?
Speaker 3 (40:13):
What's happening here?
Speaker 6 (40:14):
I mean, I feel like this is a restaurant. You
know why I'm here?
Speaker 3 (40:16):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (40:17):
And she goes I was like, can I eat? And
she was like, are you picking up an order? And
I said no, and she goes, this is we only
do pick up, so they don't even you can't even
sit down. I said, oh, well, can I order something
from now? And she goes, no, you have to have
your orders in a week in advance.
Speaker 3 (40:38):
No, you're gonna put your order in for next week, a.
Speaker 5 (40:41):
Week in advance. No, no, Shannon.
Speaker 4 (40:43):
They put their orders online at like noon on Sunday
and buy an hour later.
Speaker 5 (40:51):
All the week is full. Is that man that's popular in.
Speaker 4 (40:56):
The world thinks what they want to eat a week
in advance and orders it online.
Speaker 6 (41:02):
Yeah, I'm pretty sure they closed like last month because
I follow them on Instagram. And maybe she's just serving
special orders that they keep doing it. They definitely closed
in November, so restaurants open last night. That's what I'm saying.
Maybe she gets special orders and it's still fulfilling them
while she has I don't know. I'm just I knew
