Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome everyone. It is the Local Toy Dealers KSR postgame show.
The Cats go on the road and for the fourth
time in four years, in a game that I think
most people probably thought would be very, very difficult to win,
they win once again on the road, this time seventy
to fifty nine at Auburn. It was a great victory
(00:21):
for the Cats, and you can give us a shout
out to tell you what, Billy hold it till the end. Okay,
our first segment and we're going to take your calls.
This is going to be a much more uplifting postgame
show than we've had in a while because that was
a thorough beat down. You know, four times in the
last four years. I tend to be very optimistic, even
(00:42):
during difficult times, that Kentucky can win because it's more
fun that way. But like a lot of fans, I've
probably thought a handful of times in the last four years,
going in a true road game, it was going to
be very tough, if not impossible, for them to win.
And what's been a amazing during this four year period
where we've talked about our various criticisms and frustrations in
(01:05):
those situations Kentucky has won and in all four Tennessee
in the COVID year, Tennessee and Arkansas last year, and
then Auburn this year. Not only has Kentucky won in
all those situations, they've won kind of going away all
four times, going on the road and just kind of
(01:26):
stomping teams, and tonight was the latest and I think
as important as any of them, because with this win,
I think absent just a complete and total collapse. They're
gonna I think the tournament is now sure. They're eighteen
and seven. This is going to be along with the
win against Carolina, a really big resume victory for Kentucky
(01:52):
probably takes them up a seed line from maybe six
to fifth. You are in a good position now to
potentially avoid he'd playing on Thursday in the SEC tournament,
depending on what you do next week. So just a
lot of real positive things. And as far as the game,
I thought it was an awesome performance and they were
basically for me, four things that sort of stand out.
(02:17):
I'll start with the fact that Kentucky got off to
a great start. That was exactly what the Cats need
to do more often, but definitely on the road because
it just took the crowd out of the game. And
that's a crowd that been camping out since their game
what Wednesday night. They were in there, they were loud,
(02:38):
they had game day people who were at the game
were tweeting about what an amazing atmosphere it was before
the game. And then Kentucky comes out scores I think
on the first possession, and the crowd never really got
a chance to get into the game. I mean, they
had moments where they kind of lit up, but in general,
what you're worried about, which is if you fall down
(03:00):
two in the crowd's electrical the entire time just didn't happen.
The crowd just didn't have a chance to get excited,
which allowed Kentucky to basically control the game from from
start to finish. And I thought that was it was
impressive in how thorough the victory was and not having
(03:20):
that crowd, which can be the best crowd in the
SEC when it's Roland, was awesome to keep them out
of it. Second thing is I was really really impressed
with the play of Ugo and a Do. Ugo played
thirty six minutes tonight, thirty six minutes. He played thirty
(03:43):
six out of forty minutes. If you had told me
that kid would ever play thirty six minutes in a
game in his time at Kentucky, I wouldn't have believed it.
And to play thirty six minutes, not get in foul trouble,
be able to control the rim as he did eleven boards,
two blocks, seven points, that's awesome. And the thing that
(04:05):
I think a lot of us were worried about sort
of getting out muscled at the rim, it just didn't happen.
And Ugo was a huge part of that. Not only
did he have the blocks, but he altered a lot
of shots that I thought really really helped and maybe
more than anything, made Auburn shoot from outside to where
they weren't getting, you know, clean looks. They were four
for twenty two from three in part because they weren't
(04:26):
getting shots at the rim. And Thierra was awesome again.
He's becoming a really good defender. He's probably the only
guy on the team that I think is he's not
locked down, but it's getting close on guarding on the
on the perimeter, and he really is playing good defense.
And then you throw in the fact that he scores
fourteen points and is able to play thirty two minutes
(04:48):
when you don't have Trey Mitchell is really huge. So
that's the second thing. Third thing, Antonio Reeves. I mean,
if you've been listening to this show of the last
two years, but especially this year, he's my favorite player.
He's been my favorite player. I think he was probably
my favorite player on the team last year. To be honest,
I just there's something about him. I just love. I
(05:09):
don't know what it is. I mean, obviously, I love
that he can shoot. He's an historically good shooter, but
then to watch this year him make his game so
much better to where he can take it to the rim.
He's always had a good floater, but he uses it
a lot more and he's been a pretty good defender.
And tonight had five rebounds. He had twenty two points.
(05:33):
But I actually think his impact was even more than
that in terms of when he scored them. I counted
four times during the game when Auburn was about to
make a run or was making a run. Cut it
to four, cut it to five, maybe cut it to seven,
but the crowd was on their feet, and every single
time he scored three times with a basket and once
(05:55):
getting fouled. And completely change the momentum back. That's clutch.
And you know, we give Bob and Jamestown a hard
time for when he called that one postgame show after
a loss. I think it was it was one of
the non conference losses. I can't even remember which one
it was, but one of the losses, and he said
(06:15):
something like, you know, Antonio Reeves doesn't show up in
big games, and that was I thought, nonsense. Then it's
everybody brings that up because of the Kansas State game.
But what I am most impressed with him about is
what he is able to do on the road. I
looked it up. We've played seven true road games this year.
(06:36):
Here are the points that he's had in true road
games fifteen, nineteen, twenty one, twenty two, twenty two, twenty
four and thirty. Think about that, Billy. In seven true
road games, the fewest amount of points he's had is fifteen.
(06:56):
The most is thirty. Now was against Louisville that was
barely road game, but still that's amazing. Corey Price put
up the stat. Then, in two seasons he's gone over
twenty in a true road game nine times, and no
Cow player's ever done that. So I actually went further
back to look, because you know a lot of guys
(07:17):
don't stay two years under cow since the year, since
two thousand, Billy, how many guys have scored twenty plus
points a game on the road over the course of
two seasons? Nine times?
Speaker 2 (07:29):
Oh one, maybe two?
Speaker 1 (07:32):
Jody Meeks and Keith Bogan's and that's it. Tayshaun Prince
did it eight times. It's like that just doesn't happen.
And he does it time and time again in the
worst environments that kid goes and the fewest points he's
gotten was fifteen. He was great tonight, and I mean
(07:53):
he's an All American. He should be an All American
to play the way he does and on a team
where on any given night, Shepherd can go off, Dillingham
can go off, Wagner can go off. He is the
con I mean, his points per game this year, I
think he only has one game where he's not in
double figures. It's unbelievable. He's been awesome. He deserves to
(08:13):
be an All American. And then the last thing, and
this is I do think you gotta give John cal
Perry a lot of credit for this. Tonight. Tonight was
an old school cal Perry win. We've talked a lot
about him needing to change his style, and he has
changed his style somewhat. They take a lot more threes,
(08:35):
all the things we've talked about all year. But this
was a win the way cal Perry used to win
and like to win when he had it, like consistently
rolled here. This was a a vintage Cal win. They
only made four threes. You tell me before the game
they make four threes, I say, they cannot win. They
(08:57):
only made four threes, but they won because a defense effort, rebounding,
controlling the pace, and making the plays when they need to.
They ran that stuff that you've heard a lot about,
floppy action. They did that. They got to the rim,
they drew fouls like Cal. If you were to draw
(09:19):
up a this is how Cow would like to win.
He'd put this game on right here. This is how
he likes to win. And I honestly didn't think this
team could win like this. I thought this team could
play a lot better than they've played most of the year.
I thought this team still had a ton of potential,
but I really didn't know if they could win a
(09:40):
game like this where they played like Cow's teams of
the past did. I just didn't think they were built
like that, but they did, and they did it in
the hardest environment that they will play in all season,
you know, tournament final four included. That's really impressive. And
(10:02):
you know, if they had won this game by hitting
eleven threes Dillingham going for twenty five, I still would
have been thrilled, and I still think it would have
been impressive. But in some ways, I think it's more
impressive that they want it this way because I really
didn't think they were capable of winning a game like this,
and they did. So when you look at March and
(10:23):
you say, all, you know, we've talked about it. I
think they can beat anybody. They also think they can
lose anybody. But I didn't think they could win a
game like this. I thought to beat Auburn it would
have to be eighty five eighty, But now you can.
If you can beat Auburn seventy fifty nine, well now
that's a whole nother realm of possibilities. So I think
(10:46):
this is a big victory. Now you gotta back it up.
You got LSU Wednesday on the road, you got Alabama
at home. Win those two, and now all of a sudden,
you can get one of those top four seeds in
a in a in a region, and you might not
have to play a really good team, like a really
(11:08):
good team in the second round. You win these next
two games, some of the disappointment of the loss at
home to Florida or to Gonzaga, some of that'll go
away because you can sit there right now. You're what
eighteen and seven? Win two more gets twenty and seven, well,
with Vandy and Arkansas at home still to come, you
(11:30):
can have a really good record and a record that
can get you a seed where maybe a March run
is even more probable. So open up the phones. Eight
five nine two eight oh twenty two eighty seven. I'm
happy about it. I hope you're happy about it. I
watched the game at well. Actually, i'll talk about this
in a minute because I want Billy to participate, and
(11:50):
he's probably got to answer the phone because they're lighting up.
So eight five nine two eight oh twenty two eighty seven.
We will take a break and we'll be right back.
This is the local toy of Dealers KSR postgame show.
Speaker 3 (12:05):
Looking back.
Speaker 1 (12:07):
It is the local twenty Dealers KSR post game show.
I'm sitting here looking at the SEC standings. So Kentucky
is in a three way tie for I guess third
place with South Carolina. Four way tie South Carolina, Auburn,
and Florida. I guess by the tie breaker right now. Well,
(12:28):
South Carolina line and Auburn both are off midweek, so
Kentucky and Florida. Kentucky beats LSU, they'll be tied with
South Carolina and Auburn. Florida. I looked at Florida has
the easiest schedule left. They still play Vandy twice, and
I think Arkansas and you look at their schedule. They
got a big win today at Georgia. So Florida's actually
gonn probably finish with a better record than you think.
(12:51):
But Kentucky with the win, I think they own the
tie breaker on Florida, I think, and now we own
the tie breaker on Auburn. South Carolina will have the
tiebreaker on us. They still have difficult games, so the
path to a double bye is there. It really is,
especially if you can beat Alabama and LSU. Alabama and
(13:12):
LSU this week are huge games, you know, because I'm
gonna assume we beat Vandy in Arkansas, and that means
at Mississippi State and at Tennessee. And I think you
could get to that at Tennessee game if you win
these next two to where win or lose, you still
have a double bye. I think it's gonna be hard
to win the SEC. But I'll look at Alabama's they
(13:32):
got two losses. They play Florida at home Wednesday, then
they come to us. We're gonna have to beat them.
Then they still go to Florida and go to Ole
Miss and host Tennessee. So there are losable games there.
So you know, Billy winning the SEC is I don't
want to say likely, but it's not off the table.
Speaker 2 (13:55):
Well that's that's really hard to believe after some of
the losses.
Speaker 1 (13:58):
It's not off the table. So tennis is up one
game on us, they go to Missouri, they'll win that.
They host A and M they'll win that. Then they
host Auburn, go to Alabama, go to South Carolina. So
there's some there's potential losses there. Yeah, I mean they
could there's a chance if they beat LSU in Alabama
(14:21):
that they could go into that Tennessee game playing for
the SEC. It's not crazy at all. There's definitely a path.
There's definitely a path depending on how things play. So
this was a huge game tonight. I mean, this is massive,
especially if they're able to back it up over the
(14:41):
next week. By the way, I watched the game Billy
at KOs bar. And you know I don't like to
watch games in public, right, yeah, Like, I mean, I'll
watch games that I think they're gonna win in public,
but big games. You know, it's hard for me to
even stay in the arena during a big game. Definitely
not in a public place. But all my friends, we're
(15:05):
gonna get together. I hadn't seen them as a group
in a long time. This was the only time people
could do it. So I watched it at the bar,
and uh, I enjoyed it, Billy, and they won. So
do I have to do this? Do you have to
do this again? Yeah?
Speaker 2 (15:20):
If you're superstitious, maybe you got to get all those
guys together.
Speaker 1 (15:23):
You know, when well, I know that it's impossible to
get there. They want of them just had a baby,
like that's not weird, man, Oh you mean I gotta
tell them. Look, sorry, baby, you have to you have
to be a thing.
Speaker 2 (15:34):
Yeah, I'm thinking.
Speaker 1 (15:35):
About Wednesday watching the LSU game. Now, those late night
road games, we usually don't get much of a crowd,
but you know, maybe we can, maybe we get the mojo.
Would you come out, Billy? Oh you can't, can you.
Speaker 2 (15:46):
I got a job to do, but uh.
Speaker 1 (15:47):
Maybe I'll make Ryan and Drew come and sit with me.
Speaker 2 (15:51):
You know they had one sixteen straight home games there
before that long LSU.
Speaker 1 (15:56):
Oh yeah, well they hadn't been No one would have
been within ten of them this year.
Speaker 2 (16:00):
That's insane.
Speaker 1 (16:00):
And then they didn't stay within ten of us. So
it's a huge win. Man, that is a huge win.
All right, let's get started.
Speaker 2 (16:08):
Who's up for Edward?
Speaker 1 (16:10):
Edward? Go ahead, Matt, How are you good?
Speaker 4 (16:15):
Okay, So listen, I'm in the mountains of Gallenburg. I'm
in a hot tub with seven of my boys.
Speaker 1 (16:21):
I hang on, hang on, stop right there, stop right there.
There's just eight guys, just eight bros, just hanging in
the hot tub, just eight of you know, women at
all your.
Speaker 4 (16:31):
Darn tutin brother, it's guys weekend.
Speaker 1 (16:33):
All right, good deal? All right? There you go, eight
guys in a hot tub. What's all right? What do
you got? Yeah?
Speaker 4 (16:39):
So we watched the game. We got a bunch of
guys here and we were listening. We were watching. It
was a great game. I loved the ball pressure right
out of the gate, and we didn't come out flat.
I loved what we saw. I loved the hustle, even
justin Edwards having four points. His defense was great.
Speaker 5 (16:54):
I love.
Speaker 1 (16:54):
I thought his defense was really good, by the way,
especially in the first half. He obviously was in foul
trouble in the second half, but I thought in the
first half he played really good defense.
Speaker 4 (17:02):
Yeah, absolutely so. I mean the statue didn't show it,
but I love what we saw. My brother was in
attendance with his wife, so all around great stuff. This
isn't a shot at you, but for the toxic people
out there, I hope the praise for this team and
our coaching staff is just as loud as the criticism.
So I'm a blast night. Love you, brother, I love
to thank Thank you sir.
Speaker 6 (17:20):
Well.
Speaker 1 (17:21):
I mean, listen, it should be if you're gonna be critical,
which I have been, I hope. I don't think I've
been toxic, but I've been critical. You got to praise
him when they do well, and he thoroughly out coached
Bruce Pearl tonight, and Bruce Pearl was rattled. I mean,
he was doing the thing we criticized Cal for early
in the year. He's shuttling people in and out, wouldn't
stay with the lineup, losing it at the refs. So yeah,
(17:44):
you definitely have to give him credit. Eight guys in
a hot tub, Billy, what do you think about that?
Speaker 2 (17:49):
Just boys being boys, man, nothing wrong, That's what they do.
Speaker 1 (17:52):
You know, when we were in Greensboro last year for
the NCAA tournament, you were not there obviously because you're
not allowed to go because you're not allowed to leave
the city. Uh, the four of us were in a
hot tub one night, and it was just the four
of us, and we were like, this is just four
guys in a hot tub. It happens, but eight, it
better be a big hot tub.
Speaker 2 (18:11):
Don't you a little crowded with.
Speaker 1 (18:16):
Eight and a hot tub in Gallenburg? You better? You bet,
you all better like each other for that. I mean
that you got that. You gotta love your friends, all right?
Who's next?
Speaker 4 (18:24):
Ryan?
Speaker 1 (18:25):
Ryan? Go ahead?
Speaker 7 (18:26):
Right, Hey, how are you guys doing tonight? Kind of
curious about coach Chal's jacket tonight?
Speaker 1 (18:36):
You know, I didn't notice it. I didn't know. Somebody
texted me about it, and I guess I didn't really
pay attention. What was it?
Speaker 7 (18:44):
I couldn't tell if it was Texas, A and M
or Tennessee, but it was it was. It was checkered
and that man's wearing a dark colored suit as long
as I've been watching UK games and I didn't know.
Speaker 1 (18:58):
And let me look. I'm gonna I'm gonn. I want
to look here on the social media and let me
see if I can see it, because in my mind
I didn't notice it one way or the other. So
let's see. Caliperry jacket. Did anybody take a picture of it?
There is at least one. No, I don't see any
of it.
Speaker 2 (19:15):
I'm looking at one right now. I'll send it to you.
Speaker 1 (19:17):
Where are you seeing it?
Speaker 2 (19:18):
It's a KSR post.
Speaker 1 (19:19):
Of course I should look there.
Speaker 2 (19:21):
That'd be a good place to start.
Speaker 1 (19:22):
I would not always look at Kent. Are you texting me?
I did?
Speaker 2 (19:25):
I just texted it too.
Speaker 1 (19:26):
Well, it will come and I will look. Okay, there
it is, let's see.
Speaker 8 (19:29):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (19:30):
Yeah, I like that jacket. You're right, though he doesn't
usually wear a jacket that color. I think that's interesting though,
that's that was your biggest takeaway on the game. Was
his jacket?
Speaker 7 (19:38):
Well, oh no, I mean I love UK we believe Blue,
but we had three losses at home in a row,
and I didn't know if that was his way of
flex and saying something and.
Speaker 1 (19:50):
Maybe he was just taking like changing the mojo right
like like me watching the game in public.
Speaker 7 (19:57):
He's one of the best dressed man coaches is ball,
and I've never seen him wearing a jacket like that,
and I didn't know if there was something behind it.
Speaker 1 (20:08):
Yeah, I don't know. I'm not not that. I don't.
I appreciate. I appreciate the call. Maybe somebody maybe he
said that about it. I don't know. I like that
first two calls. Hey dudes in a hot tub and
Cala Perry's jacket. I like it. That's why I like
this fan base. You never know, you never know what's
gonna happen, and that's what I like. Who's next, Zach, Zach?
(20:30):
What's up? Zach?
Speaker 9 (20:32):
Hey?
Speaker 1 (20:33):
Man, Hey, I just gonna say, we're so back.
Speaker 10 (20:36):
It's not how many times you get knocked down and
how many times you get back up again, And man,
we got back up tonight, and in the past few years,
past few games this season, it feels like we're slowly
getting back, but we shot right back up. And man,
the cal Perry Suit its checkerboard. The checkerboard always.
Speaker 1 (20:53):
Finds its way back in.
Speaker 3 (20:56):
Yeah.
Speaker 10 (20:57):
Yeah, I'm just super excited. We got back up, so
freaking back. I'm so excited. It's a great season. Let's
go for nine.
Speaker 1 (21:08):
I'm with you. Listen, when they're playing well. When they're
playing well, they can beat anybody. And that's that's one
thing that is different. I think about this group in
the last two years. You know, two years ago, when
they lost to Saint Peter's, I thought that team was
really good. I didn't think they could win a title.
(21:29):
I did not think they were going to lose to
Saint Peter's last year. You know, I thought we might
win a game more than we did. But I didn't
think this was a title this team could. This team's
good enough to beat anybody, now, is it, you know,
is it good enough to win six straight playing consistently.
(21:49):
We'll see. But this was a good step. I just
didn't think this team could win a seventy to fifty
nine game against a good offensive team and they did so,
so what is happening right now? Is it Sabrina versus Steph?
Is that happening right now?
Speaker 2 (22:06):
I apparently, Yeah. I think I have the wrong NBA
TV on, so I can't watch it.
Speaker 1 (22:12):
Are you watching like an old NBA game?
Speaker 2 (22:14):
I'm watching like the NBA channel and it's just given
me player interviews. I'm not watching any.
Speaker 1 (22:19):
That's because she's on T and T.
Speaker 2 (22:20):
Oh, Well that's the problem. Been watching the wrong channel
for an hour.
Speaker 1 (22:25):
No, you're like, it's like you've been watching the Super
Bowl from like three years ago or some Yeah, so
Sabrina got twenty six and Staph got twenty nine, But
still like, that's an awesome performance by Sapriene because she
shot from the men's line, didn't she?
Speaker 2 (22:40):
Oh I didn't know that.
Speaker 1 (22:42):
Yeah, she shot. I mean she used the women's ball,
but she shot from the men's lote. So that's a
great performance by her. I think it's very cool that
they did that.
Speaker 2 (22:52):
Trey Mitchell also had a good performance from the bench today.
Speaker 1 (22:54):
Oh I loved it. I love the shooting, the thing
and the too low, the too little, too little like
that the too little was at a perfect time too.
That was a great By the way, how high did
a dude get on that loph that law like? He
was way up, way up. Jacob Toppins about to be
(23:16):
in this dunk contest. It's gonna be tough for him
to win because people don't know who he is. But
I hope he has a good good showing who's next?
Cam Cam? What's up? Cam?
Speaker 11 (23:27):
What's going on?
Speaker 12 (23:28):
Guys?
Speaker 11 (23:28):
I am pardon me from talking low. I'm over here
rocking my infant to sleep.
Speaker 1 (23:33):
All right, we've had so we've had here we go Billy,
eight dudes in a hot tub, We've had Col jacket,
and now we got Rocket an infant to sleep. Let's
go camp.
Speaker 11 (23:43):
Hey, ten o'clock on a Saturday. First of all, hey,
I'm with you, Matt. I've been critical of Col the
last four or five years, but I definitely got to
praise him when they comes through with the clutch situations. Man,
So uh, kudos to him forget and the boys ready
to play tonight.
Speaker 1 (24:01):
I was worried.
Speaker 11 (24:03):
I placed a little parlay for them to get beat
pretty bad man. So they they proved me wrong. I
was excited about that. And how about I do man?
I think he was the X factor to night. Yes, absolutely,
his intensity. I believe the team fed off of his intensity.
If he can finish those contested layups and continually get
(24:27):
those dunks like he does, I think the team feeds
off his energy.
Speaker 1 (24:30):
Nobody else really does that.
Speaker 11 (24:31):
Justin Edwards tries to but he gets stripped.
Speaker 1 (24:37):
There are times that I appreciate the call. There are
times where there are offensive possessions where you know, for
whatever reason, you're not able to get anything. And what
I like is okay. So DJ can still usually take
his man, but he's just still not great at finishing.
Reeves is getting better at finishing, but he missed a
(25:00):
handful today. But a dude can do it and draws
a foul. He don't know he's finished, but he draws
a foul, and I really I like, I think there's
a lot of value in that. And you're exactly right,
he's so tough. He's so tough. I give that dude
a ton of credit. I mean, he he you know,
when cow recruiting, nobody knew who he was, and he's
(25:23):
been awesome. He's been really, really awesome. I hope he'd
be an awesome dude to bring back next year to
be like the stabilizing veteran force on the team next season.
I think he would be. That would be that would
be excellent. All right, who's next, Charlie, Charlie, go ahead, Charlie.
Speaker 7 (25:40):
Yeah.
Speaker 8 (25:40):
Man, that was a great win, very exciting, and I'm
I'm excited about our new OC. I know Whereyan grew
up in the eighties, my friends decided everybody loved a
good Bush.
Speaker 1 (25:52):
All right, Yeah, you know, just leave the comedy on you,
Like I say, but if you're gonna tell Joe, you
gotta make sure they're good.
Speaker 2 (26:02):
You think he had something there, like he.
Speaker 1 (26:04):
Well, it's like, I mean, everybody has thought that, and
since they got hired, Like if there's been some form
of that joke in people's mind, you know, you just
gotta do you like this court they got on the
me a thing right now.
Speaker 2 (26:17):
Well, now that I'm on the right channel, I'm seeing
it for the first time. It's it's quite impressive.
Speaker 1 (26:21):
It's quite impressive. I wonder what I mean, is that
what it looks like there? I guess it is. Yeah,
that's kind of amazing. I mean it's got to be distracting.
Speaker 2 (26:29):
I mean, I'm watching a Twitter video on the court
right now, right before this guy.
Speaker 1 (26:34):
That's really crazy. How about Hami Hakas being in the
dunk contest? Who would have ever seen that? When he
was usually like all right, he's next, let's go to
Bill Bill, go ahead, Bill.
Speaker 12 (26:45):
Hey, how were we doing?
Speaker 1 (26:46):
Folks doing good?
Speaker 13 (26:49):
Man?
Speaker 12 (26:49):
Uh? You know, what do you say? Cal Perry come
out and he taught these guys how to defend this evening.
He did a damn good job.
Speaker 1 (27:05):
Man, you did a great job. I mean that's not
just a good like that's a team where it's not
just that that they defended. That's a good offensive team.
I mean they were top twenty kim Pom in offense. Like,
that's not just some.
Speaker 12 (27:18):
Team up the twenty nine points in the first half.
Well done, sir, but a.
Speaker 1 (27:25):
Good offensive team, I mean, not just a random one,
a good one.
Speaker 8 (27:29):
Yeah.
Speaker 12 (27:30):
It's kind of trutely. You know, I was one that
called you and I have problem, you know, because I'm
I'm a Kentucky fan through and through and Cali Perry
you know he's a good recruiter. But tonight he showed
me he could coach and well.
Speaker 1 (27:51):
Come on, man, I mean I appreciate the call. You
can't say you never thought he could coach until now.
I mean, he's won a lot of big games. As
much criticism as I've had over him, the idea that
he can't coach has never been a fair criticism. Ever,
you don't win as much as he does without being
able to coach. You can nitpick with how he coaches sometimes,
(28:14):
but I don't think, I mean like he's always been
able to coach. Did you think that hotcas dunk was impressive?
Billy or No?
Speaker 2 (28:22):
I didn't see it, Honestly, I was working too hard
over here. Okay, sorry, answer.
Speaker 1 (28:32):
I understand, It's okay. I did to just you know,
he jumped over Shack, but Shack Vince's head and it
was you know, it was I mean, it was impressive,
but it wasn't crazy. But go ahead?
Speaker 14 (28:42):
Uh?
Speaker 2 (28:42):
Nick is next?
Speaker 1 (28:43):
Nick? Go ahead?
Speaker 15 (28:44):
And Nick Matt first time caller, a long time listener.
Speaker 1 (28:48):
Who what's up? I just it's hard for.
Speaker 15 (28:52):
Me to after the third home loss, I kind of
wanted to give up on him, but he said something
about this team. It's hard for me to get up
on them. And when tonight when they came out, they
actually got a good start, which was surprising to see
him come out and actually go after it like they did.
(29:12):
I'm just I'm just impressed with Reed's hands too. That
guy's just unreal with how quick his hands are.
Speaker 1 (29:20):
Let me ask you a question. When you say though,
and by the way, I'm not criticizing this because a
lot of people will say something like this when you
say give up though, And I'm just gonna guess this
about you because i don't know you. But my guess
is you don't really like it, like you don't mean that,
like when like when we were in the COVID year
and we were nine and sixteen. My guess is you
(29:40):
probably still watched every game, didn't you. Yeah, give up.
Speaker 15 (29:46):
It's it's just hard to loss after loss like that.
Speaker 1 (29:50):
It's just hard, you know it is. But I think
a lot of fans talk about give it, giving up,
but we still watch. You know, We're still gonna be
into it because it's our thing in my opinion. But
you know, so I appreciate the call. Jacob Toppin just
did his dunk, jumped over his brother, took the ball
from him, and did a reverse slamp that was actually
(30:12):
pretty awesome. And it doesn't feel like the crowd appreciated it. No,
that was good.
Speaker 2 (30:16):
I think that'll get act.
Speaker 1 (30:17):
That was really good. Let's see what they gave me. Okay, yeah,
so they gave him a better one than they did
the other guy. They shut up. That was really good.
It's harder to jump over the guy and make a reverse.
Speaker 2 (30:28):
As long as Jay Williams isn't judging, this contest will
be good.
Speaker 1 (30:31):
I thought he was really good. All right, Well, we'll
see what the other dudes do. Let's do one more
and we'll take a break. Who's next?
Speaker 2 (30:36):
How about Xerxes?
Speaker 1 (30:38):
Xerxes? What's up?
Speaker 7 (30:40):
Hey man?
Speaker 16 (30:41):
I got a few things. First of all, I'm gonna
say our record is now sacially two and zero, since
the players called that players only meeting and focused in
uh solely on defense, which.
Speaker 1 (30:52):
They'd already had one player's only meeting xerxyes, how many
do they get before we say when we get to
start over? This was their second one.
Speaker 16 (31:00):
Well, since they focused on defense, I mean, since the
focus has been on defense with two and zero, I
love the effort, But my man Rob Dillingham.
Speaker 6 (31:11):
Cannot play defense to save his life. He's too handsy.
He swings his arms way too much. He's too aggressive,
and I think Tyler you list needs to get with
him and steady this guy and just show him how
to play man and man defense because he picks up
way too many unnecessary files, way too many. Please with
(31:32):
an effort from Justin Edwards, google defense from Reid, even
though he didn't have a great offensive.
Speaker 1 (31:40):
Game for a great win in a jungle.
Speaker 6 (31:43):
I made out like a band today in my vets
amongst my friends.
Speaker 16 (31:47):
Wife and I over here drinking champaign one to night
and they got the hot tough.
Speaker 1 (31:53):
No, it's that happy, you know what. It's just bro's
in a hot tub. It happens. That's uh, you know,
I appreciate the call. I'm I'm certain, Billy, someone's gonna
have a photoshop. I haven't look to see if there is,
but that's happening. Don't you think somebody's gonna do an
(32:15):
eight guys in a hot tub photoshop.
Speaker 2 (32:16):
We've already gotten a couple tweets about it. But yes,
the photoshop I'm sure is coming.
Speaker 1 (32:21):
Yeah, I want to see. I'm I'm trying to think
who who somebody's somebody's doing it, I know, and I'm
interested to see what the uh what it'll end up. Actually, yeah,
I see Toppins was a lot better than Jayleen.
Speaker 2 (32:35):
That better not be better than that's not.
Speaker 1 (32:37):
Better than Toppins. That Toppins was better than he if
I'm nine two eight oho, uh twenty eighty seven, we
will take a break and be right back. It's a
Local Toy Dealers KSR Postgame Show quarterback. It is the
Local Toy Dealers KSR Post Game Show dunk contest is rigged.
(33:02):
Mack McClung's dunk was amazing, and they Jalen Brown got
the best score and had the worst dunk. Come on, man,
Jacob Toppins not gonna win, and it's ridiculous. But even
like Jalen, come on, all right, I'm done talk about that.
Speaker 2 (33:18):
It's not over. He's got one more dunk left, right.
Speaker 1 (33:20):
I'm just saying, like, who is this old dude? I mean,
I'm sure he's good, but who's the old guy giving
Mac McClung of forty six when he threw the ball
up and eat stop? All right, A lot of you
aren't even watching it, and you're probably just thinking I'm ranting.
So we'll go back to the game. Eight five nine
two eight zero twenty two eighty seven. Only I had
somebody send me thinks said only one hundred UK fans
(33:42):
or so we're in the building. So that really is
a hard environment. I mean, that's a tough tough ticket
to get so so I'm impressed they had anybody there,
to be honest with you, because that's uh that that
that was. I think get in price was like four
hundred fifty dollars in game time.
Speaker 2 (33:59):
So all right up next Ryan is next?
Speaker 1 (34:02):
Ryan? Go ahead? Right?
Speaker 3 (34:04):
Hey, right, I have Matt bad, my bad. I just
wanted this first time long time I've called, uh called
into the show. But I just want to say that
I probably want one of the seluck few fans. I
guess you could say there's probably something out there or
again say that, but it's not been so crucial about
this team because uh, you know, this is probably that
I could remember. I could be wrong. I'm only thirty
(34:26):
four years old. That Cal's like, this is the best
shooting team that we've had. I mean, we've got some
We've got some shooters on this team that I mean,
these boys can shoot that pig skin, you know, And
I'm not I ain't never give up on them, and
I don't you know, when I when I listen in
and people like, hey, you know this team ain't no good.
We can't play. I'm like, boys, just calm down, just
give it a minute. We we can play the ball,
(34:47):
you know. I just I just wanted to say that.
You know, even though we won, if we would have
lost that game against Fandy, you know, you would have
got some callers saying we should get rid of cal
Cal should be out of here. You know, you know
what I mean, Like, just calm down. I just wanted
to say.
Speaker 1 (35:01):
But if we to be fair though, to be fair,
and I have not said he should be gone, and
I don't believe that I said no. But but but
to be fair, though, had they lost to Vandy, people
should be critical, Like we gotta stop. We gotta stop
acting like everything is feast or famine. I mean, like,
(35:22):
if they lose to Vandy, they deserve criticism. But if
they loss, but if they we didn't lose to Vanny,
but if we had lost to Vandy, that is a
terrible loss. However, winning at Auburn is a great win.
But those things are not mutually exclusive.
Speaker 3 (35:43):
No, no, no, because now this win tonight, this is
an excellent win. I'm not dogging to win, and I'm
not dogging that win that we had the other night.
I'm just saying, you know, these these boys aren't machines.
Speaker 1 (35:51):
You know what I mean.
Speaker 3 (35:52):
These boys aren't machines. They just go out and they're
supposed to say, they're supposed to listen to the coach.
But now you know, some of these boys ain't going
out there and listen to the coach. They just got there,
play and you know, and they everybody gets the stars.
Speaker 1 (36:03):
Now, I mean, you're making me, but you're making me
do something I don't want to do, which is being
all negative. This is positive, but you hang on, hang on.
You cannot take the view that when they play good,
it's cows, it's it's him, and when they play bad
it's on the players. It's both both times, it's both
(36:24):
both times. I agree. I agree with that. I do agree.
Speaker 3 (36:28):
I do agree with that, but I never What I'm
saying is like, you know, a lot of fans, you know,
we've got the best fans in the world, but some
of these people that come in you call in, they're like,
you know, cow, these cows, no, cow, can't coach and
these players can't shoot the ball. And it's like, you know,
we we have bad knights. Hey, look I say that
with where we're at right now, and you know we,
like you said, we can lose against anybody. We can
(36:50):
beat anybody, and only all we have to all we
have to do is when it comes down, make that
tournament and get on a good run. That's that's all.
That's all it matters, man, because you know.
Speaker 1 (37:00):
Shake the colligree. I got you, I got you. My
man like my man. My man gets going and he
just gets rivveed up and it's rolling. They have completely
screwed Jacob Topping in this thing. That was another awesome dunk, Billy.
Speaker 2 (37:15):
It looked effortless. Honestly, that's the problem.
Speaker 1 (37:18):
I mean, those were both great dunks. And they're not
gonna move him on. And that's nonsense anyway, all right,
go ahead, who's next?
Speaker 2 (37:28):
Speaking of nonsense, Bob and Jamestown is next?
Speaker 1 (37:30):
Hello, Bob. Matt Antonio reeves once again, since he laid
down on North Carolina would do that. Who's next? Who's next, Billy,
Who's next? I'm not listening to you say he laid
down against North Carolina. He had a bad game. People,
(37:50):
have bad games. That doesn't mean they lay down. I'm
not listening to that, Bob. I'm sorry. Oh my goodness,
that dunk was amazing. I'm not listening to that. Like
that's nonsense. He can have a bad game, but this dude,
and I know you were gonna praise him, but I'm
still cutting you off for saying he laid down. I
(38:12):
almost sound like cal These dudes are not machines. They
get to have a bad game. And he has been
more consistently good on the road than any player. And
guess what, we beat Carolina, so it wasn't that bad.
But I just you got us the narrative about Reeves
(38:36):
like not showing. I mean that staff Jody Meeks and
Keith Bogan's two legends are the only dudes ever since
two thousand that have had more road games or twenty
or more points. Like I'm I mean, I'm sorry to
get a quick trigger, Bob, but you got to stop that.
Who's next.
Speaker 2 (38:57):
Let's go to Zach, Zach.
Speaker 1 (39:00):
What's up, Zach? Hey, Matt, a good road win for us.
Two things for you.
Speaker 17 (39:07):
The goaltending call that Ugo had early in the first half.
Speaker 1 (39:11):
Why do they wait until it's a terrible rule.
Speaker 5 (39:15):
Time out.
Speaker 1 (39:16):
Why do you not do it? It's terrible rules. I
mean the reason they do it at the TV timeout
is to not stop playing. But it's a terrible rule.
It's gone against us twice. It went against Auburn tonight.
It's a terrible rule because it doesn't you know, you
don't give the team a chance that would have gotten
the rebound, and it's it's it hurt Auburn tonight. It
(39:38):
hurt us twice this year. That rule's got to be changed.
If you think goaltending is important enough to review, then
they got to do it immediately. If you don't, then don't.
But it's it's a terrible rule. And we've now seen
it play out in three Kentucky games this year.
Speaker 12 (39:54):
Oh yeah, I.
Speaker 17 (39:55):
Agree because they reviewed it like three minutes later.
Speaker 1 (39:58):
And then take the points off. But like it. But
it hurts Auburn there because what if Auburn had gotten
the ball right, I don't know if they were going
to or not. But in the two games where we
had got it, we got the rebound, and then we're
unable to score because of the rule. Correct.
Speaker 17 (40:13):
Correct, And the other thing I wish college basketball could
have like a challenge flag or something to that foul
that Reid had on that three where the Auburn player
kicked his leg out that was kind of bad and
cal was yelling at him to review it. I kind
of wish a challenge.
Speaker 1 (40:31):
I feel like we review too much as it is.
I mean, I really do you know what I mean.
I feel like I'm okay with reviewing in the last
two or three minutes, but once we start like just
adding more and more stuff to review, the game just
takes forever. I mean, you got to get the calls
right at the end of the game in the last
two minutes, but I do think that was a bad
(40:54):
call and to read thing. But I really wish they
wouldn't review it, to be honest, you know what I mean.
Speaker 17 (41:00):
Yeah, I understand. It's just when it's like that blatant
when they show it in slow motion, it's kind of like, Man,
I wish you could review that.
Speaker 1 (41:08):
But I get what you're saying. It'd take forever to review,
take forever if you recruit review every you know, questionable call.
So I appreciate the call. Yeah, Jalen Brown, They're gonna
see they move him on like that it's rigged.
Speaker 2 (41:24):
It's rigged the popularity contest.
Speaker 1 (41:26):
It's a popularity contest. There's no way that Jalen Brown
should have moved on over Jacob topic zero. All right,
who's next?
Speaker 2 (41:36):
Dalton? Is next?
Speaker 1 (41:38):
Dalton? Go ahead, Hey, Matt, how are you doing good?
Speaker 5 (41:44):
I just gotta say, how about a Douciero absolutely baptizing
that kid from Auburn and then is as he was
out there looking like a pe teacher tonight?
Speaker 1 (41:57):
Uh well, why did he wear that? By the way,
I couldn't hear the sound. I didn't know if I mean,
it might have been to raise money or something. So
I'm not like, I'm not you know, I'm not. Yeah,
so I'm not sure. But it was weird when he
was wearing a T shirt.
Speaker 12 (42:14):
Yeah, that was that was weird.
Speaker 1 (42:17):
So yeah, but you know, it was nice to see
him angry and to see us. I don't dislike Bruce Pearl,
but I do like seeing Bruce Pearl upset, you know
what I mean?
Speaker 5 (42:28):
Yes, that that makes my day when I watched an
Auburn game and he gets upset.
Speaker 1 (42:32):
Yes, I'm I'm I'm with you. I appreciate the call.
If I've none two eighth twenty two. I cannot believe.
I know you're not paying attention, Billy, but Jacob Topping
got completely jobbed by these They got some old guy
out there, who's who has he even? I mean no
offense to him, man, but like he won the seventy
seven dunk contest? What was that like in a peach basket?
(42:56):
You know what's happening here, Billy?
Speaker 2 (42:57):
Now, Matthew, you got to respect your elders.
Speaker 1 (43:00):
I respect them, but not if they're going to judge
like that. Who's next? Pam, Pam? Go ahead, Pam.
Speaker 14 (43:09):
Oh hey, matt thanks for taking my call. Number one.
Bob and Jamestown, I love you. But no one on
this team lays down ever.
Speaker 1 (43:17):
Period. I don't think they do either effort. I don't
think at any point this year have I felt like
effort wasn't the issue. Now, sometimes I do think they
you know, there were some hustle plays that don't get made,
But I have never felt like these dudes have laid down.
I actually think one of their strengths is they don't
give up. They play hall or so. I just I
don't buy that.
Speaker 14 (43:39):
I'm with you exactly. I am a lifelong UK fan.
I started watching games when I was a little girl
with my dad, and I have been going through some
tough medical stuff lately. I've been off work since January
TEWOD and just dealing with some really serious medical stuff,
and like, watching these games is one thing I look
forward to that brings me joy. And these three home
(44:01):
losses did not bring me joy. But tonight I was
joyful and I was so happy about it, so happy
it just brought And listening to you guys every day
on KSR makes me laugh and brings me joy as well.
Speaker 1 (44:16):
And well Le's first of all, let me that that
I understand what you mean, like when you go through
difficult times like games can make you happy. I don't
know what you're going through and you don't have to
tell me, but God bless you, and I'll be praying
for you and keep your head up and you know,
hopefully we keep winning to keep bringing you that joy.
Speaker 14 (44:34):
Thank you, Thank you so much.
Speaker 1 (44:36):
I appreciate that.
Speaker 14 (44:37):
But I did have two questions for you guys, if
you don't mind one, go for it, as I wanted
to know like your and Billy's thoughts on how do
you think our defense has improved so much so quickly.
Speaker 1 (44:49):
First of all, do you really want to know Billy's thoughts?
Do I have to ask Billy as well?
Speaker 16 (44:53):
Or you don't.
Speaker 14 (44:54):
You don't have to.
Speaker 1 (44:56):
You specifically asked Pam, So I'll get Billy's thoughts too,
Go ahead, okay.
Speaker 14 (45:01):
And the second one is like, there was those two
incidents during the game where the Auburn players were injured
or whatever on the opposite side of the court, but
yet they stopped to play.
Speaker 1 (45:13):
Yeah, yeah, I don't know, but I mean, that's now
happened in two games with us, and I don't know.
I appreciate the call, I mean, and again I hope,
I hope things go better. I I uh, I don't
know the rule now. The guy got hurt, so I'm
not anyway. It looks like it was a serious injury,
so I'm not gonna like spend a lot of time
(45:35):
on worrying about it because he was clearly really hurt.
But I don't understand the rule because you know, either
you stop it or you don't, right, Like, I don't
know how I mean, I think the rule is supposed
to be you stop it if they're really hurt. That
(45:57):
kid tonight was really hurt. So I'm not gonna be
like that one tonight didn't bother me, bother me as much.
But I think the last time it happened, the dude
just ended up getting back up and being fine. And
so I just I don't really know how. I don't
really know exactly what that rule is supposed to be. So,
but I hope that kid is okay, the Jalen Williams,
(46:20):
because he's he's good and an Auburn's gonna have a
hard time if they if they don't have it. Let's
do one more and we'll take a break.
Speaker 2 (46:27):
Don't you want my defensive analysis.
Speaker 1 (46:29):
Well, I'm sorry I should have let you talk. Go ahead,
you do the defensive part.
Speaker 2 (46:33):
Uh, Well, you know, I don't know, but maybe one
thing that's helped is that they've tightened the rotation a
little bit. You know, Aaron Bradshaw only got three minutes,
Big Z had thirty seconds, I think, and when you
know who's going to be out there and the responsibilities
they have, that I'm sure that helps.
Speaker 1 (46:48):
Yeah. No, I think a couple of things. I think
I've gotten a little better. A dude's become very good defensively.
I think Wagner's gotten better. Reeves is better. I mean
Dillian Ham's the weekly defensively, and I think that's whise
minutes are going to have gone down that in foul trouble,
and so he's gonna have to I mean, we need
him offensively, but he's kind of been a weak link.
(47:09):
I thought Ugo. They didn't put Ugo in pick and
Roll a lot tonight, which I don't understand why because
he showed he played it a little better on a
couple early plays. But uh, who goes? Who go? Being
a rim protector? I think helps you know they exploited
it and to death. Gonzaga did on the pick and roll,
but I don't. I don't feel like Auburn was really
(47:29):
able to do that. So all right, one more? Who's next?
Speaker 2 (47:33):
Alex is next?
Speaker 1 (47:35):
Alex? Go ahead, Alex?
Speaker 18 (47:38):
Hey, Matt, first time?
Speaker 1 (47:39):
Long time?
Speaker 13 (47:41):
Uh?
Speaker 1 (47:41):
Who are I saw?
Speaker 18 (47:43):
I got two questions? So I think tonight, I mean
we didn't get to see Trey Mitchell obviously, and so
it seemed like the lineup was a bit smaller. Do
you think that you know we'll see a smaller lineup
in the future, I mean seeing a lot more minutes
from him, do and then The second question is did
you get a chance to watch Cathy Wallace and Sheboy
play in the Rising Stars?
Speaker 1 (48:04):
I saw a minute of it. I didn't see a
lot of it. I saw a minute of it. I
would say to answer your question, it's a game by
game thing. So like against Gonzaga, and I appreciate the
call against Gonzaga, it would have been nice to have
Trey Mitchell and so I think not having him is
uh is was unfortunate tonight. It might have been better
(48:28):
to have a do so I think it's I think
both those guys are very valuable. I hope we get
Trey back. But listen, who go playing like you did?
Denied is a difference. Banker very cool by the way
of Jalen Brown. He's he put on Terrence Clark's high
school jersey and they put a face of him on
the floor. That's very cool. Good because rest in peace,
(48:53):
Terrence Clark. That's very cool. With Jayleen Brown to do
we will take a break and come back. Final segment.
If I'm nine two eight twenty two eight seven, this
is the local toyter Dealer's KSR postgame show. I don't
know who this Darnelle Hillman is, but they can't bite
him back.
Speaker 3 (49:12):
Billy.
Speaker 1 (49:13):
I mean, I respect my elders, but this dude grades
like I don't know, like he said Yale.
Speaker 2 (49:21):
He seems like a little bit of a hater.
Speaker 1 (49:23):
I mean, what a hater? Darnell? Come on? Hey to
eight oh twenty two eighty seven? Why Jaylen Brown just
put on Michael Jackson glove? Come on? This is why
superstars should be on here though, because everybody wants him
to lose. Mic McClung should win. You is he I
(49:44):
don't think so. I think he's in the G League.
Do you know he's from He's from right there next
to Middlesbrough. Did you know that?
Speaker 2 (49:51):
No, I didn't know that.
Speaker 1 (49:52):
From Gates City, Virginia where we we went there. We
went through there last year. You remember we stopped an
eight in his hometown, me and Ryan and then on
the way to Greensboro.
Speaker 2 (50:02):
Who could forget?
Speaker 1 (50:03):
I mean, well clearly you could. I wasn't there, but
you got well, they don't let you go. You got
you got six.
Speaker 2 (50:11):
Six calls on I do have six cars.
Speaker 1 (50:13):
We'll do those six and assuming the last one is good,
then we will we'll finish up.
Speaker 2 (50:18):
Who's next, Spencer, Spencer, How are.
Speaker 1 (50:20):
You doing, Spencer?
Speaker 9 (50:22):
First time? Long time man?
Speaker 1 (50:24):
Who what's up?
Speaker 9 (50:26):
Not much? I was just wondering with the difference, what
different ways we've won this year, and you know, starting
out to seem like we just gonna outscore everybody and
you know.
Speaker 19 (50:37):
Put up ninety five and win. Uh and now having
a defensive win like tonight on the road. What do
you think matchup wise in the tournament is a nightmare
for us. We didn't want to get a shoot out.
Speaker 1 (50:53):
I mean I wouldn't. First of all, I didn't think
we could win games where we scored seventy to get
some good right, So that's that's a good that's a
good thing to see because I thought, you know, the
best cow teams could win that way. I just didn't
think this team had the defensive ability to to win
that way. So so now I think that's good. I
(51:16):
would not. I think the best team in the country
right now is Yukon. I mean, they just pounded Marquette
at home, so they're the ones I want to avoid
the most. I guess what I would say is I
don't if you're just talking about who I think the
best teams are, I think Markuett's the best team. Excuse me,
Yukon's the best team. I think probably Carolina to me
(51:39):
is next. I know they've lost some games, but I
still think they are explosive. And then you know, Kansas
is Kansas. They always seem to play well in March.
The team that I think with the thing, the team
that I think gives us the matchup that I like
the least is Houston, just because I think they're so
physical and their defense is good, and I worry that
(52:00):
like what happened to us against Gonzaga and A and
M and Carol South Carolina might happen in that game.
So the team I want to avoid the most is Yukon.
But to answer your question, probably second would be Houston. Yeah.
Speaker 9 (52:13):
Well, I was just wondering, like we think the best
version of ourselves is is the outscoring people.
Speaker 1 (52:18):
Or the I think the best version? Well, well, no,
I mean the best version is if you could play
like we did tonight over and over. I'll take that,
because you know, I think we'll beat you. Play like
you do tonight, we'll beat most teams. I still think, though,
the way we'll have to win a title is we'll
have to win a game like we did tonight, and
(52:39):
then we're gonna have to beat somebody ninety to eighty six,
right right, And I think I'm not worried about the
ninety to eighty six, but I was worried about how
this would go. And it went great. Stop it, Mick
mcclun appreciate the call. He is the winner, Billy. If
they don't give this to this dude, then it's it's rigged.
Speaker 2 (52:59):
I'm with you. That was That was pretty awesome. That
was awesome, better than Jaylen Brown's glove.
Speaker 1 (53:04):
I mean he and also the dudes like your height.
He even has your hair when I first met you. Well,
that's what your hair looked like when I met his
head almost hit the rim. Yeah, all right, who's next, Heather, Heather,
go ahead, Heather.
Speaker 20 (53:22):
Well, first of all, prayers for Pam. And second, I
have to tell a little story about my nanny. She's
ninety three. She watches every game, and every every time
before the game she will call and ask who we're playing.
(53:43):
So when she called tonight and I told her Auburn,
I said, now, Nanny, this is a this is a
tough place to play, so don't I can't guarantee you
when and she said, well, I'll just pray real hard
for him and you'll see we'll win. And so I
just would like to thank the Lord and Nanny for
(54:05):
a seass obvious.
Speaker 1 (54:09):
Well, well, the Lord and Nanny is is happy for
with the win, and Heather, it's always good to hear
from you.
Speaker 20 (54:18):
Yes, And I just I loved Ugo and a Do tonight.
I there's just such a difference in both of those
this year that I really think that they was the
X factors all I do too.
Speaker 1 (54:34):
I agree with that. I completely completely agree with you.
Appreciate the call. The text machine is seventy seven two
seven seven four five two five four. By the way,
my mom texted him to say she was not watching
the Dunk Contest, which doesn't surprise me, Billy, since she
didn't watch the Super Bowl.
Speaker 2 (54:51):
That's still hard to believe. I mean, not many the
other things on this I.
Speaker 1 (54:55):
Would have been more surprised if my mom, after skipping
the Super Bowl, had watched the Dunk Contest, because I
bet there aren't too many people that would have chosen
that one too. So so I love you, Mom, and
I assumed you probably weren't were watching the dunk Contest.
Four more. Who's next?
Speaker 2 (55:11):
Laura?
Speaker 1 (55:12):
Laura, go ahead, Laura.
Speaker 21 (55:14):
Hey, Matt, first time call her a long time listener.
Ow you guys, Oh, I love seeing our cats in
the NBA. You know number nine is the most important.
But I sure do appreciate seeing all the Cats in
the All Star Game. But I got two things for you.
Both defensive, you know, I thought Reed Shepherd actually played
some pretty good three point defense night and leave us
(55:36):
feet I don't. I think maybe just one time, he
didn't go for the ball fakes and he didn't hedge
as much as he normally does.
Speaker 1 (55:43):
So he did. He he was He was probably more
solid yet no, not probably he was more solid on defense,
uh than than he's been in some of the last
few games. I think that's for any guy. A couple
of steels, I think in the first half.
Speaker 21 (55:56):
So yeah, he did, he didn't. He's improving, which is
which is great. And then the second thing is DJ
Wagner on the high ball screen. I mean, he he's
what we need. He's got it down. I don't think
Dillingham or reach upter there quite yet. But I watched
or watch Wagner all night, and he he fought through
(56:17):
that high ball screen screen, he communicated. I'm not exactly
happy with him. On the offensive end, he dribbles too much.
I think he played so much ISO. But on the
defensive end, I mean, you can just tell we need
him so we're a better team when he spack.
Speaker 1 (56:31):
Totally agree with you. Appreciate the appreciate the call. Let
me give you another stat that the John Scott, the
big Blue History gout. You know in their careers, Billy,
you know how many players in their career have had
more away games score excuse me, more away games scoring
(56:53):
twenty plus points in two seasons than Antonio Reeves. Would
you like to know the answer? Yes?
Speaker 2 (56:58):
How many?
Speaker 1 (57:00):
Uh wait a minute, hang on, I got the wrong
thing there, Sorry, mosted? Okay, So let me put a
different way. The Kevin Greevy holds a record for most
away games with twenty or more points. He had twenty,
Dan Assel had nineteen. Next is Mike Casey, then Givens Walk,
(57:20):
Kenny Walker, Dampieriley Mashburn, and Andrews Cotton, Ash Joe Crawford.
All those dudes played at Kentucky for at least three years.
Right then, Spivey Hagen Derreck Miller, Johnny Cox, Bogan's Turpin,
Parker Delk. All those guys played at least three years.
(57:40):
Grows a. Davender Meeks, Pratt so Reeves is on this
list and he's the only dude who played less than
three years on the list.
Speaker 2 (57:50):
Wow, I mean he's grown up in before our eyes. Man,
he was just a transfer from Illinois State.
Speaker 1 (57:56):
Yes, I just think I don't know that we as fans,
and I know the national media is not I don't
know that people appreciate how well he's played because he's
not like flashy, and he's on a team with dudes
like Dylan m and Shepherd that are kind of flashy.
And you know we had Oscar sheb Way two years
ago win National Player of the Year. I just don't
(58:18):
think we're appreciating the way that dude scores. It's just
not normal.
Speaker 2 (58:24):
You think he's an NBA player.
Speaker 1 (58:25):
Yeah, I do. Yes, Now, I mean for sure, I
think he's going to be underpick. To be honest with you,
he'll probably go in the second round. And I think
the dude is a late first round pick. You know,
he's older, so like they won't pick him in the
first fifteen because he's older, and you know, they like
to pick potential, but like, take a guy like Haimi
(58:47):
Hakas right now, he went at the end of the
first round, I think, and then it's probably the fourth
best rookie this year. I don't know that Reeves is
necessarily like him, but I think Reeves has a chance
to be a good NBA player. So yeah, he's He's
(59:08):
amazed me and I've always been a fan. I was
advocating for him to play from early last year, but
I never thought he'd be like this. The difference is
he can get to the rim now, which is something
he couldn't do last year, at least not consistently. Who's next, Cecil, Cecil,
go ahead.
Speaker 13 (59:26):
First of all, I want to send good vibes to
the young lady that called earlier with the medical issues.
Speaker 7 (59:33):
Uh.
Speaker 13 (59:35):
Most of everybody's given praise to Hugo and Thiero saw
and much deserved. But the lady said the previous lady
just now, she gave great analysis and I want you
fag Man, it was great. Wagner and Reid they played
(59:57):
the defense today, uh, and I think that's Uh. Wagner's
always played good defense, but he's been out for so long,
so we kind of forgot all about it. But man,
that's what we need is his point guard skills and defense.
And Reid finally stepped up on the man demand defense.
He's great as a team defender, but today he actually
(01:00:20):
stood stood his ground, did not let his guy beat
him off the dribble. We need this read. Hopefully we'll
get more scoring for me like most games, but the
defense we got from Wagner and Reid today is crucial
(01:00:40):
for marsh Madness runs.
Speaker 1 (01:00:43):
So I totally agree with that. S. You and I
have bickered a little bit this year, but I think
your everything you just said is exactly right. I appreciate
you calling.
Speaker 2 (01:00:53):
Oh I hung up bot him.
Speaker 1 (01:00:54):
Yeah, well that's okay. So the winners tonight Damon Lillard
won the three point contest, Matt McClung won the dunk contest,
see mommy didn't have to watch it, and Steph Curry
beat Sabrina. How do I say her name?
Speaker 21 (01:01:06):
Was?
Speaker 1 (01:01:07):
Last name in Yon school?
Speaker 2 (01:01:09):
Didn't you talk about her on ESPN the other day?
Speaker 1 (01:01:12):
I just call her Sabrina. I don't know how to
say her last name. She's got cool shoes. I have
one I'm I'm gonna get one of her pairs of shoes,
like her shoe is really good. Two more? Who's next, Mitch, Mitch?
What's up, Mitch?
Speaker 22 (01:01:28):
Well, Matt, wonderful when But something earlier today happened. One
of my four children decided they're going to cheer for
Auburn and they don't want to go to Dairy Queen
because they're a wiener. And they're sitting at the dinner
table until this calls over because I'm shaming him on
the radio. Well, I'm not gonna say his name, but
(01:01:48):
he did it and he doesn't get to go to
dairy Queen.
Speaker 1 (01:01:51):
Wow, he doesn't, and you've made so you're making the
kids sit at the table right now and take.
Speaker 22 (01:01:58):
It it, Matt, because guess what, I was born in Kentucky.
He may have been born here in Washing his fate,
that's okay. He can be a washing A fan. But
he was like, Nope, Auburd's gonna win today. I will
stop the car and just I don't know.
Speaker 1 (01:02:13):
I like it. Listen, kids have to be punished, right,
They have to be punished if they don't, if they don't,
if they don't act right. So I'm with it. I
appreciate the call. A rule is not a rule without
a punishment. That's the one.
Speaker 22 (01:02:26):
Now, Matt, I have a quick question I want you
to ask next week someday.
Speaker 1 (01:02:30):
Okay, we're the eighth.
Speaker 22 (01:02:31):
Who are the seven sorry, seven UK athletes male only
for Ryan that you'd get in a hot tub with.
Speaker 1 (01:02:42):
That's a question you should ask, all right. I appreciate
the call. I don't know, I don't I don't know
the answer to that question. I would probably say it
would have nothing to do with being in a hot tub.
The question would be, what are the seven former Kentucky
athletes that I would love to sit and talk to
the most? And I'll assume we're talking in a hot tub.
(01:03:05):
So if I'm saying living that, I'm gonna assume in
order for me to say this, I'm not gonna pick
like people from the past that I would like to meet.
I'm just gonna say my seven favorite personalities since I've
been doing this that I've gotten to know. I would
(01:03:27):
go Ramel, Bradley, Wukash, Jared Lorenzen, Mike Pratt. Let me think,
because I want to make sure I have the right ones.
I'm gonna surprise you here, Billy, because I really like
(01:03:48):
this guy a lot when he was here. EJ. Florial,
I really liked him a lot. Richie Farmer, Hm, who's
gonna be my seventh?
Speaker 2 (01:04:05):
And DeMarcus, Oh, that's a good one to end it.
Speaker 1 (01:04:08):
DeMarcus, that's gonna be my seventh.
Speaker 2 (01:04:11):
I mean he's pushing me under in the hot tub.
Speaker 1 (01:04:14):
Yeah, uh yeah, I'm gonna go. I think that's my
for seven Ramel Wo, Jared, Mike Pratt, e J. Florial, Uh,
DeMarcus and Richie. I think we would have fun me
and those seven billy in the hot tub in Gatlinburg,
(01:04:36):
just like boys do.
Speaker 2 (01:04:39):
I can see it now.
Speaker 1 (01:04:39):
By the way, if you didn't hear the first call,
that seems really strange what I just said. One more
and we'll finish. Who's next?
Speaker 2 (01:04:46):
Speaking of hot tubs, this is the brother of the
guy who was in the hot tub.
Speaker 1 (01:04:49):
Oh, it's the guy that was at the game. Perfect
way to end. What'd you think about your brother's call?
Speaker 6 (01:04:55):
Hey, Matt, it was so good to hear it.
Speaker 23 (01:04:56):
You're gonna start the night with his call? In the
night with perfect I completely believed that he'd be in
the hot tub with on guy's weekend, uh with with
the eight dudes, but hopefully he can close this out.
Speaker 1 (01:05:08):
Well, go for it. How was it there?
Speaker 23 (01:05:12):
It was excellent. This is my second Auburn Kentucky game.
Speaker 4 (01:05:15):
Great crowd.
Speaker 23 (01:05:16):
You know every time they you know, try to get
back into it. I think the crowd wanted him to
be there, wanted them to get back in it. And
you know, there was a response after a response. So
I mean, I think a real mature showing all. I
got three quick points and I'll close this out here.
Speaker 4 (01:05:32):
Underscore.
Speaker 23 (01:05:32):
I think DJ Wagner set a defensive tone. I know
he struggled a little bit on the offensive end, but
I think he set a tone defensively from the gego
that that just other people caught onto. So and then
to your point about Reeves and just under hype that
he is his current splits Right now, he's shooting fifty
percent from the floor from three ninety percent from the line.
(01:05:53):
I think he said just under ninety percent. First player
since nineteen ninety two ninety three to be able to
do that at Kentucky was private sport.
Speaker 1 (01:06:01):
Yeah, it's just traveling.
Speaker 23 (01:06:03):
Yeah, yeah, primly under hyped, but super super great game. Awesome,
atmosphere great to get out of Auburn with a win.
Speaker 1 (01:06:10):
I totally agree with you. I appreciate the call. I
gotta make one substitution, Billy that I just I don't
know why I forgot. I love EJ. I'm gonna take
him out of the hot tub. Unfortunately, I can't leave
Max out.
Speaker 2 (01:06:23):
O Max.
Speaker 1 (01:06:25):
Yeah, I can't leave out Max life of the party.
Really yeah, So I'm sorry. J. If if I got
to have eight, i'd have you in, but I'm gonna
have to put Max. So we'll go. It'll be uh
ramel Wu, Max, Mike Pratt, Jared DeMarcus, and uh whom
I missing Ritchie. Those will be this same hey listen,
(01:06:46):
awesome win. Thanks to all the folks who made the
atmosphere fun tonight at Kspar. Thanks to all of you
who listened to the postgame show. This is the feel
good night Kentucky needed six more games and then we
go to a March run that hopefully will be one
to remember. Thank you all very much. Thanks to Billy
for his great defensive analysis. I think her name was Pam.
(01:07:11):
Our prayers are with you, and thank you to everybody.
Shout out to the Gatlinburg eight in the hot tub.
This has been the local Toylet Dealers KSR post game
show
