Speaker 1 (00:00):
All right, welcome in the local Total Leaders UK postgame show.
It wasn't pretty, it wasn't the most prettiest thing I've
ever seen, But Kentucky a winner over Bellerman ninety nine
eighty five at Rupperena on a rare Tuesday afternoon game
here before Christmas. Make Big Blue Nation a little brighter
for Christmas going into the Christmas holiday. Got some good
(00:21):
things to talk about, got some bad things to talk about,
but the main thing is they got to win. Huge
crowd you heard Coach Pope talk about on the postgame show.
Just this is the game where all the people who
come home for the holidays get to use the family
tickets that they never get to used during the season.
We had. Usually when they play a team like Bellerman
or Eastern Illinois or Balpo or something like that, we
(00:41):
have a ton of tickets to give away on the
pregame show. Today we had none. Zero. The ks bar
was packed because Pizza's a lot of fresh new faces
for people that wanted to go watch the catch play.
They saw an exciting offense. We got some work to
do on defense maybe, but the Cats get the win.
(01:01):
The now improved a nine and four going into SEC play.
Now there's a big break. I mean, now there's eleven
days before they play again January third at Alabama for
the SEC opener. It's a long layoff with no game.
Is you know they used to sneak in this the
Louisville game kind of They kind of scheduled it between
(01:22):
Christmas in years and several years in a row there, so,
uh they need if I felt like they needed something
a little warm up or tune up for getting into
SEC play. Jalen Lowe did not play today, resting that
injured shoulder as he should have rested it. No need
to get him out there and get dinged up banged
up a little bit with conference play getting ready to start.
Jaden Quainton's played limited minutes. Didn't play a whole lot.
(01:43):
What did he get, Billy, he only got like eight
minutes or something.
Speaker 2 (01:46):
I think, Yeah, it wasn't a lot.
Speaker 1 (01:48):
It was eighty That's what I thought. Uh, very limited minutes.
And then I guess the only kind of concern is
Brandon Garrison kind of tweaked his knee a little bit,
didn't play it all in the second half. But now
you got eleven days to rest everybody get ready for
SEC plays. So I guess the question for everybody is
how do you feel? I mean they've won four games
(02:10):
in a row, right I mean, they're on a four
game winning streak right now. How do you feel about
the team going into conference play? Have they turned a corner?
I got a great tweet from somebody. I need to
go back and find it because the tweet was, will
we look back on this game as where we turned
the corner when it comes to shooting? Here he goes
might look back at today as the turning point in
(02:32):
shooting from the b Dubs seventy seven And it's possible
the way Cam Williams shot the ball, Aberdeen shot the ball.
Everybody was hitting threes, I mean Billy. The other day
against Saint John they only took sixteen three pointers, hit
four of them. Tonight they hit sixteen three pointers, shooting
sixteen to thirty. Just really shot lights out. Going to
(02:55):
the game, there were two things we said to talk
about this on the pregame show. There were two areas
we were going to look at, how do they shoot
the basketball much improved sixteen to thirty and the assist
to turnover ratio because they had more turnovers than assists
against Saint John's tonight, twenty four assists, ten turnovers. A
lot of guys great handling the basketball. Jashper Johnson had
(03:17):
seven assists, one turnover playing running the point. So a
lot of good things to talk. So let's let's billy.
We've got the good and the bad? Which one do
you wanna start with?
Speaker 2 (03:27):
Always at the bad, start with the bat, you.
Speaker 1 (03:29):
Start with the bad. Yeah, Bellman did whatever they wanted
to do offensively. Our defense was very lacking. And if
you listen to the radio broadcast, you heard Jack Gibbons
over and over and over talk about how Bellerman is
a very efficient offense and Kentucky can't stop him and
Kentucky needs to make a stop and they couldn't just
(03:52):
time after time after time. Bellerman did whatever they wanted.
And no disrespect to Bellerman, but this is Bellerman. You know,
he played a great defensive game the other night against
Saint John's and you couldn't stop Bellermant and they gave
up eighty five points to Bellermant. That's got to get better.
That's got to improve. I mean, Jalen Lowe, maybe you're
(04:14):
fourth best defender on the perimeter. But with him out there,
the other guys can slide into their natural position and
play defensive like Danzel, Aberdeen and Otaga I think are
great defenders. Colin Channer's all a pretty decent defender. But
for whatever reason today we had problems the entire game.
How did you see it, Billy?
Speaker 3 (04:33):
Yeah, I mean the zone was given him issues, and
I mean just one on one defense was bad at times.
I mean Goose was screaming for a kill, which is
what three or four straight stops in a row, and
Kentucky was struggling to get that, So I get it.
You got to tip their cap to them though. I
mean they they executed really well. They had their one
player that was shooting from all over the place, so
I mean, I do want to say that they did
(04:54):
play well today.
Speaker 1 (04:56):
The fighting Channon the dudes came to play at Roperena today.
Is Bellerman his ow mater played very well. Yeah, they're
big guy Karazinski uh twenty four points. I mean he was,
he was a load man. They had trouble with him,
and with Jaq just getting kind of limited minutes, they
couldn't find anybody to match up with him. Diabote is
your one guy that Bellerman didn't have a matchup for.
(05:17):
I mean, he had twenty points, five rebounds, and he's
just a they had nobody to match excuse me, match
up with his strength most of the game. But uh,
I mean, and you know, we just we just talked
about on the pregame show, how could this be that
elite defensive team that Pope teased us with all summer
long and praised how good a defensive team they could be.
(05:38):
And then we saw against Saint John's had full roster
at full strength of what they could do defensively, kind
of took a step backwards today. I felt like, and uh,
that's not what you want. I know they got to win,
but still, man, you let Bellerman let you up for
eighty five points and that's not a good sign. Do
you agree?
Speaker 2 (05:56):
Yeah? I agree.
Speaker 3 (05:57):
But you know, Jane Quainton's definitely didn't play as much
as he would in a normal game, right, just getting
him back into shape. Brandon Garrison went out early with
a knee injury. But you know that's zone, right, and
we knew Kentucky was going to see that at some point.
Speaker 1 (06:12):
So now let's get to the good. Yeah, And There's
one storyline and it's Cam Williams. The dude took ten
three pointers, only took ten shots, didn't take a two pointer,
took ten three pointers and hit eight of them. You'd
be hard pressed to find most guys that can't hit
eight out of ten just standing by yourself out in
(06:33):
the driveway or in practice. He hits eight out of
ten in a game. And that's the Cam Williams we
kept hearing about all summer long. Owever, practice, he never misses.
He shoots lights out. Dude was on fire. One more
three pointer would have tied Tony Duk's thirty year record
of nine three pointers in a game at Roperena. I
(06:53):
mean he shoots like that. Everything else offensively is just
going to open up for that basketball team. He was
on fire today.
Speaker 3 (07:00):
Yeah, and he's kind of been waiting for a shot
to go down, and defense has allowed him to stay
on the floor, right and so in his interview with Jack,
he said he was rushing his jump shot in these
early games, and he finally calmed down and scored twenty
six points in twenty two minutes.
Speaker 2 (07:16):
Ryan, that was a great performance, wasn't it.
Speaker 1 (07:18):
A good point? Twenty six points in twenty two minutes.
Just like felt like every time he let it go,
he was gonna he was gonna hit it. Gave a
little tay Shaun Prince that one time after he hit
like it maybe his fourth one, like put his hands
up in here, like, yeah, what are you gonna do?
I'm gonna hit it.
Speaker 2 (07:31):
So they also as a heat check too. I love
heat checks.
Speaker 1 (07:34):
Amen.
Speaker 2 (07:34):
The whole arena wants you to shoot that ball.
Speaker 1 (07:36):
And it kind of overshattered, overshattered, overshadowed. Denzel Aberteen's shooting performance.
Dude hit four three pointers, hit a couple early in
the game, right off the bat. Where's that been? I
mean he's kind of been shooting him since December hit
He's been shooting really poorly. But nobody's gonna remember him
hitting four three pointers because Cam Williams hit eight.
Speaker 4 (07:59):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (07:59):
I wanted to bet that record too, but Kentucky doesn't
get a hundred, They don't get the record. But it's still,
like you said in the pregame, probably a feel good
win despite the defensive issues.
Speaker 1 (08:08):
Right Yeah. And the other thing that probably nobody's going
to really talk about because Cam had such a big game.
O take oh way, almost had a triple double ten points,
ten assists, eight rebounds. He flirted with I thought he
was gonna get it. I mean, because they kept the
guys in there, you know, even towards the end of
(08:29):
the game, the final minutes, I thought, Man, all he
needs is two more rebound to get a triple double.
You know, ten points is not his average, but they
didn't need that. He did the other things with Jalen
low out ten assists. Good to see, isn't it Billy?
Speaker 2 (08:43):
It is?
Speaker 3 (08:43):
It is Man, And it just gives so much credence
to that he can be the second or third best
option on the team. But if he's the first, you know,
it's I don't know if that's his role. And so
hopefully he can continue to continue his play to get
better and better.
Speaker 1 (08:56):
So the Cats get the win. The crowd, the good crowd,
gets a little Christmas bonus after the game. If you
heard Coach Pope's comments, he had the players go into
a one of the suits their rapparena, and all the
fans who stayed to hear him doing his postgame show,
which apparently a lot of fans were there, didn't know this,
(09:17):
but when he was finished, they took all the fans in.
They were going to get autographs and the players players
weren't going to sign until everybody got every autograph that
they wanted. Just a little Christmas bonus for those fans
that not only went to the game but stuck around
for his postgame comments. I loved it. I loved everything
about it. The pope girls, as he calls them, were
handing out some special kind of books made of pictures.
(09:38):
They must take, you know, a lot of photos and
then put them in a special book, just gonna randomly
give him to some fans. Then the little nice Christmas bonus.
So everybody leaves Roperena probably feeling a little happier.
Speaker 2 (09:50):
Yep.
Speaker 3 (09:50):
And Bellerman was one free throw away from breaking a
record and Reperena for consecutive free throws made to start
a game by opposing team. They had they were fifteen
to fifteen and then missed the record breaking one.
Speaker 1 (10:00):
Uh did they? But and then I kind of lost track?
They did the guy miss two in a row. They've
they still got fans, still got the Chicken fil A sandwiches.
Speaker 2 (10:08):
Do they still do the Chick fil A promotion?
Speaker 1 (10:11):
I don't know, but they all clapped. They all got
really loud, like maybe they thought they were going to
or maybe they put it up on the jumbo tron
or something. You know, here's a little secret what you
don't have to be at the game if somebody misses
two free throws. I'm just just just telling you. You
got the Chick fil A app and you go buy
a Rupperina.
Speaker 2 (10:31):
You don't good enough, I just yeah, show up.
Speaker 1 (10:33):
Uh huh. Probably you could probably do it from the
iHeart building right there. Just open up your app and
if that happened, you can get the free chicken sandwich.
Oh just just just keep that opinion in me, all right.
Kentucky's got eleven days off now till they play at
Alabama on January third at noon. And now we want
to hear from you. Eight five nine two eight h
two two eight seven eight five nine twohito cats. By
(10:54):
the way, if you're leaving Ropperina right now, don't go
down Lee'stown Road. There's a water main break on Lee'stown Road.
Like around uh, where is that Forbes Road? At intersection
right there? At Forbes Road? Do not go down there.
The road is closed both ways because of a water
main break and all those people that are like going
back to Western Kentucky or Louisville that are going down
(11:16):
Leestown Road to get on I sixty four, go a
different direction because it's all traffic is all. It's a
mess right now. So there's your little traffic tip from
officer down here on the postgame show. All right, well
think our break come back eight five nine two eight
two two eight seven, Ryan and Billy here on the
Local Total Deaders KSR postgame show. We'll be right back.
Welcome back. This is the local Total Deaders KSR postgame show.
(11:37):
Cats a winner at Reparena ninety nine eighty five, kind
of a little pre Christmas gift for all Big Blue Nation,
improving to nine and four on the season. I mean
probably most people had them maybe what ten and three,
maybe eleven and two. I mean, despite their four kind
of ugly will couple really ugly losses. Nine and four
(11:59):
kind of feel like Billy, that's kind of where most
people kind of probably thought they were going to be
going into the conference season.
Speaker 3 (12:05):
Yeah, maybe some of the showings in the non conference
haven't been great, naming that one in Nashville, but look,
there's a lot of positive momentum after these last few games, right, yeah.
Speaker 1 (12:15):
I think I had them in eleven and two. I
was a little more optimistic, but I had him winning
against Gonzaga and losing to Saint John. That's why I
remember picking it that way. So. Uh so they still
got some still got some work to do, especially in
the defensive end. All right, eight five nine two eight
h two two eight seven. That's our phone line if
you want to call and get on board. Who we
got first, Billy matt and Nola mattt In, Nola Matthew,
(12:37):
how are you doing down there?
Speaker 5 (12:39):
I'm well, I'm standing on the sidelines of the historic
New Orleans Bowl and the Super Dome, uh and getting ready.
We are one hour away from a kick and uh
great rock for the first ever played by play experience.
Speaker 1 (12:56):
Now, you seem to when you were here in Lexington
starting to get a little concern and maybe a little
anxious about doing the game. Have you settled in a
little bit?
Speaker 5 (13:03):
Yeah, a little bit. I mean I'm still a little anxious,
but I'm much better. You know, I did a lot
of preparation about the teams. We met the coaches yesterday,
so I feel like I know a little bit more
about it. It's cool to be here, you know, to
be in the Supervome. I haven't been here since we
won the national championship in twenty twelve, and you know,
(13:24):
I'm looking forward to it. I'm not gonna lie and
say that like I feel as easy as I do
for most radio shows, but I do think. I think
I have a better grasp. And it's amazing how much
I want to say, like how much help you have
for this? I have a spot er, I have a
stats guy, I have two producers. So it don't help
(13:45):
me get through it. I think over the course of
the times.
Speaker 1 (13:47):
Can you share with us kind of what your conversations
were like with the coaches?
Speaker 5 (13:53):
Yeah, you know what, it's interesting. I've never done that obviously,
And the coaches will tell you a lot, tell you,
like the trick plays they're going to run so that
you can be ready to see them. So I know
both teams, I know some of the trick plays they're
gonna do. Clearly you have to commit to not telling
(14:13):
the other team. And it's interesting because one coach will
tell you something like because you ask them what do
you think the other team's gonna do? And then you
ask that the team the other team, what are you
gonna do? And sometimes what the coach thinks is true
and sometimes it's not and you can't.
Speaker 1 (14:30):
Say it right it's right.
Speaker 5 (14:31):
So that's kind of interesting to me, Like, you know,
you go, okay, well there's something special you're gonna do
and they tell you. So that makes sense to me.
Why when you watch a game like when Tony Romo
or those people kind of predict the plays. I'm not
saying like it takes a little of the magic away,
because especially if you know football, like they kind of
told you when we line up like this, this is
(14:54):
what's happening.
Speaker 1 (14:57):
Well, the I think most of us are kind of
list and gonna listen to the game to see how
you actually handle the uh the play by play part,
like the professional part of it. Are you going to
do it? KSR style? Are you gonna be professional style?
Speaker 5 (15:09):
Probably a mix, right. I mean they are very big
on time downscore, time downscore. They tell you say, say
the time the down yard line, like every play score,
you know, every drive. So I mean that's one of
the things they kind of pound in your head, you know,
making sure that I say people's names. Some of these
(15:32):
dudes have difficult names. It's hard to express how high
up in the air I am. I mean we are
at the app I'm on the field right now, but
when we call it, we are so high up in
the air that it's gonna be hard to see. And
I don't like using binoculars because it doesn't give your
field of vision, right, So that's gonna be tough. But
(15:54):
you know, you've got people who spot and say, that's
that guy, that's that that that's that guy. So hopefully,
hopefully it works out. It's gonna be weird because the
Louisville Toledo game apparently is running along, so we're gonna
have to call the game at the beginning even though
no one's listening. I'm actually kind of think that'll be
very awkward.
Speaker 1 (16:12):
Yeah, well, it kind of helped you maybe settle in
a little bit, and then once you take.
Speaker 5 (16:16):
Maybe you maybe but like I don't know, you know,
these people I'm working with, I'm now away from them,
so I can say it. They're all very skeptical. I
can just tell. I can tell because they all like, really,
this is your first game, so we're gonna.
Speaker 1 (16:32):
Win them over. Buddy in well, Billy has done nothing
but cry because he wanted to be down there with
you as part of this Bowl game experience.
Speaker 5 (16:39):
Yeah, Billy would have been good. I mean like it's
he You know they have a setup where everybody stands.
Billy would have been right next to me. He would
have I would have made him do a lot of work.
I have a spotter sheet, like we talked about, got
it laminated this morning at the FedEx that was in
the hotel Nice. So just I'm run into a lot
(17:00):
of KSR listeners even here. Brian Macy, who I went
to college with, is a team doctor for Western. Do
you remember Bill Jones, Ryan, that played on my Caliperry
fantasy camp team the first year? I know, the the
older gentleman that was on my team.
Speaker 1 (17:15):
You like, yes, from Paducah. It wasn't he.
Speaker 5 (17:18):
I think he's yes, he's down here. He's a Western booster.
So it's been kind of fun.
Speaker 1 (17:23):
Were you able to keep up with the Kentucky game?
You have any thoughts on it? What you saw today?
Speaker 5 (17:27):
I just saw that it was closed. I would look
at the score. I think at one point I looked
and it was twenty six twenty four, and I was
going crazy. I saw Cam had eight threes. I'll watch
it probably tomorrow on the flight home. But give me
the give me the short of it. Why did we
allow so many points?
Speaker 1 (17:43):
Our defense kind of stunk. I mean they Bellerman did
whatever they wanted the entire game. We could not get
a stop and against Bellerman and gave up eighty five points.
So people are kind of alarmed about that part of
the game today.
Speaker 5 (17:57):
Well that is alarming. I mean, now, we did play
great defense against Saint John's and it's weird with Jalen
Lowe out. The defense actually aren't arguably better, you know,
and the fact that it was it was worse. That's
a little troubling. But you know, first that last game
before Christmas, people probably want to go home, so I won't.
I won't be too concerned. But that's that's what allowing
(18:18):
eighty five points to a bellivantinae if not good is
it isn't really a great time.
Speaker 1 (18:23):
Yeah, hopefully they found them. There's the shooting eye. They
found it, but now they got to figure out how
to do something on an other side on defensive end.
I mean, they could not stop Bellaman. Bellman did whatever
they want.
Speaker 5 (18:33):
I will I will say to everybody listening. Uh, Phil,
I'm not allowed to take calls, which is probably a
good decision. Now that I'm here, I can kind of
see how it would have been weird. But I can
use the text machine, So if people text during the game,
I'm going to read some on the air, and you know,
it should be pretty good. I I I've enjoyed it
(18:54):
so far, and hopefully I think I'm going to be
nervous when we start, but I think when I settle
into the will be okay. Myron is odd because Myron
normally is the most nervous person for everything, and he's like,
he's acting like he's you know, Troy Aikman here. He
has no concern in the world, and he's never done
it either, So I'm just gonna follow his lead.
Speaker 1 (19:14):
He's trying to relax, keep you relax. He's trying to
be that guy I think he is. Yeah, he is.
Speaker 5 (19:19):
He just keeps looking at me and going like, you're
gonna do great, and I go, well, now you're making
it worse by continuing to say that. But you'll be fine,
won't you get started.
Speaker 1 (19:27):
You'll be fine, Like I said, once you get going,
you'll settle in kind of get in the groove and
then you'll get the flow of it and it'll be you'll
be just fine.
Speaker 5 (19:33):
I have some really good Hattiesberg and Bowling Green facts,
so people from Bowling Green, you're gonna hear a lot
about you, including some history I didn't know, so it
should be great. But thank you all very much everybody listening.
Thanks for you know, people sent really nice messages. And
I will not be back on a KSR show until
after Christmas. So Merry Christmas everybody, including Ryan, you and Billy.
Speaker 1 (19:55):
Yeah, Mary, Christmas to you man. Safe travel coming back,
and we're all in the kickoffs at five point thirty
correct Eastern time, it.
Speaker 5 (20:01):
Is at five. I think our broadcast might start a
little bit late, but the kickoff is scheduled. The kickoff
will be at five thirty. I don't know when we
will actually go.
Speaker 1 (20:10):
Okay, go kill it. Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays to you
guys and Carrie, Karen and Larry. And we'll see uh
next year then.
Speaker 5 (20:17):
I guess sounds great, see you all right, there's.
Speaker 1 (20:21):
Matt and Nola. How about that our leadoff caller Billy
from Matt in Nola giving us a giving a little
shout out.
Speaker 3 (20:26):
The Superdome is the highest press box in the NFL,
I believe, so it is high up there.
Speaker 2 (20:32):
Good thing he's got a spotter.
Speaker 1 (20:33):
Well, I worry about it. He said he didn't doesn't
like using binoculars. I think that's one thing Tom Hart
told him, Man, make sure you get a good pair
of binocular because you're gonna need him.
Speaker 3 (20:43):
Yeah, how else are you gonna be able to see
the people out there? But well, that's odd that we
may not be able to hear it until the game
is like in the first quarter or second quarter, you know,
so we'll have to see.
Speaker 1 (20:53):
Yeah, all right, So Matt from Noah our first caller.
Kickoff for his game is at five thirty. Let's get
back to our calls. Now, who got any Let's go
to Ethan, Ethan, go ahead, Ethan, hy Ryan.
Speaker 4 (21:05):
I appreciate y'all taking my call. I just wanted to
say I'm glad see Cam got going. Although the defense
was a little concerning today, I don't know how big
of a deal it's gonna be long term. They just
did a lot of ball watching today and I hope
they can figure that out over over the Christmas break.
But Mary Christmas. Do you'll appreciated y'all taking my call.
Speaker 1 (21:24):
Thank thanks, Ethan appreciate it. Yeah, he's he's trying. They
did do a lot of ball watching today. I mean,
I really don't know what happened to the defense today.
They look so good against Saint John's and really, you
just take Jayden Lowe out of it, like and Matt,
like Matt said, you take Jad and Lowe off the floor,
you think you can get maybe even a little better defensively,
and they got worse. Maybe they overlooked Bellerman. Maybe they
(21:45):
were looking ahead to the holidays. Maybe they won one
of the Pope books from the Pope girls. I mean,
I don't know, Billy, what was the answer why the
defense was poor today? Do you have an answer?
Speaker 6 (21:54):
Well?
Speaker 3 (21:54):
Jack said they didn't look very motivated or interested out
there on defense, which is entirely pop right Bellerman before
the holiday. Maybe they just didn't lock in like they
needed to. And and Pope, I'm sure when is gonna
grill him for that and have him running practice.
Speaker 1 (22:09):
I'm sure because it was just, you know, the Gonzaga
game just a couple weeks ago. Jack said he could
tell during pregame they were not focused, they were not ready,
they were not energized.
Speaker 7 (22:20):
That.
Speaker 1 (22:20):
I don't like that. I don't like the fact you
can't get up for a game. Even if it is Bellerman.
You still got to bring your a your a game
because Bellerman kind of made you look silly on that
end of the floor. Who's next, Billy, Sean is next? Sean?
Go ahead, Sean alls up.
Speaker 6 (22:34):
Guys, I hope everybody has them. Merry Christmas. I've got
a couple of comments and I got a question. Comments
are guys listen, we have got to have Lowell on
the floor, especially on the offensive end. He just creates
more shots. He opens up the floor. I mean, I
could probably take JQ and low and bring jay Q
(22:55):
up to the top and let him roll to the
baskets and get all I want on the offensive man,
just throw it up to him and then let everybody
else just crash the boards and another thing of the
defense man. It's like you, guys said eighty five points
to Bellerman. Come on, we got to be more engaged
on both ends. And I'm telling you right now, it
just scares me to death. I just hope that Jamie Lowell,
(23:18):
his shoulder, stays healthy. And we've got to have him. Man,
if we ain't got Jamion Lowell, we're just not very
good at all. And I got the question is what
do you think the record of being the SEC when
they start playing? And I'll get off their marry Christ
and everybody and go big blue.
Speaker 1 (23:34):
I appreciate Sean. You know, the thing about the SEC
is it's not near as strong as it was last year,
when like, what what fourteen teams make the NCA Tournament
or something ridiculous number. Nowhere close to that right now.
But they've got some tough games. You know, Tennessee has
shown signs they could be really good. Florida Kentucky has
to go play cal periodt Arkansas. That's gonna be a
tough game. I mean, there's gonna be some tough battles,
(23:56):
but it's not near as strong as it was last year. So, Billy,
what do you think their record will be in the
SEC when they play their sixteen games?
Speaker 2 (24:07):
Yep, sorry, I was on the phone.
Speaker 1 (24:09):
Oh that's all right. We were talking about he wanted
to know what we thought the SEC record was gonna
be this year.
Speaker 2 (24:14):
Okay, well I'm gonna go.
Speaker 1 (24:18):
I'm gonna go eleven and.
Speaker 2 (24:20):
Five, eleven and five.
Speaker 3 (24:23):
See, they're on a roll now, So like, I don't
know what my expectations are, so i'd say probably a
little less than that.
Speaker 2 (24:30):
Ten and six for me.
Speaker 1 (24:31):
I almost went twelve and four. You went the other way. Yes,
I just feel like Jalen Low, they're gonna miss him
a game or two. He's just gonna get bumpa, get hurt,
and they're gonna just just just to expect that that's
gonna happen. You hope it doesn't happen a big game
when they're playing Florida or Tennessee or Arkansas or something,
or Alabama there first, Well, should be ready to go
by the Alabama game.
Speaker 2 (24:49):
And what is it the tough teams are on the
road this year.
Speaker 1 (24:51):
Yeah, that's another thing.
Speaker 2 (24:53):
You're at home.
Speaker 1 (24:53):
So yeah, so they're gonna drop a few. I'll go
eleven and five, and I hopefully, hopefully I'm I've underrated
the team a little bit. All right, Well, take our break,
come back, go back to the phone line eight five
nine two A too two to eight seven. Ryan and
Billy on the local Total deaders Kis our postgame show
will be right back, all right, Welcome back, Local total
deaders kise our postgame show, Ryan and Billy eight five
nine two A two two eight seven. It's eight five nine.
(25:16):
Tito cats a couple of corrections. We gotta make Billy
imagine that we made a booboo. Yeah, they don't do
the Chick fil A promotion at Reperen anymore. When the
opposing team misses two back to back free throws, hmmm,
so they haven't done it all year.
Speaker 2 (25:30):
That stinks.
Speaker 1 (25:31):
But the crowd cheered today like they didn't know, Like, oh,
they missed two. They thought they were gonna get the
free Chicken fil A Chick fil A sandwich. Boom boop.
We do don't get it? Uh, And they play eighteen
sec games now instead of sixteen. I knew that. So
what do you so from an eighteen game schedule? I'm
gonna say, I'll stay golly. I don't want to say
(25:56):
thirteen and five, thirteen five or twelve and six.
Speaker 2 (26:00):
I'll say eleven and seven.
Speaker 1 (26:01):
Then you're going eleven and seven. Why aren't you a
little more optimistic about the team with Quaintons and low back.
Speaker 3 (26:08):
They just gave up eighty five points to Bellerman fair.
I mean, now, jen Quain's only played eight minutes in
this game. Yes, so he will have a bigger impact.
But Jalen Low is probably gonna miss a game, right,
Is Cam Williams gonna hit eight threes? What does this
game look like if Cam Williams doesn't hit eight threes?
Speaker 1 (26:24):
Man, that's a great point. What if? What if he
has a normal shooting game and he's only hits three years.
Speaker 2 (26:29):
Going on the road. So yeah, we'll see.
Speaker 3 (26:33):
But I mean, I've liked what I've seen from Diabate
and Quaintance, and but defensively they took a step back today.
Speaker 1 (26:39):
Bellman had nobody to match up Diabatee. But SEC teams
do have people to match up against Diabate, so he
won't be able to get twenty points and kill everybody
down low like he did today. Eight five nine h
two two eight seven. All right, it's go back to
the phone lines. Who we got before we do?
Speaker 3 (26:54):
I need to give our Johnny Rocker personal injury attorney
money maker of the game.
Speaker 1 (26:58):
Oh take what if you don't pick the person who
deserves I'm coming across the airwaves and hitting you injured?
Speaker 3 (27:04):
Get small town compassion with big city results when you
call the Rocker at two seven, zho three two one
four four two nine. Well, Now, while Cam was great,
our moneymaker of the game is the guy that was
dropping dimes.
Speaker 2 (27:16):
That was Otega. Oh way.
Speaker 3 (27:17):
He scored ten points, he had ten assists and eight rebounds,
just two rebounds shy of that triple double, and led
the team in plus minus in plus fourteen and thirty
three minutes. That is our Johnny Rocker personal injury attorney
moneymaker of the game.
Speaker 1 (27:30):
I'll let you slide. I thought you're gonna go with
Cam Williams with these eight three pointers, but yeah, Otega
just two rebounds away from a triple double. That is
gonna get overlooked because Cam had such a big game today,
you know, with the eight three point eight out of
ten three pointers.
Speaker 6 (27:43):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (27:43):
And I don't always like to give the moneymaker to
the best player of the game.
Speaker 2 (27:47):
We got to try to highlight some other people.
Speaker 3 (27:48):
But I think always a big part of that sec
stretch we were talking about Ryan and how good he
plays will determine how many wins they have.
Speaker 1 (27:55):
Speaking of money maker, when are you going Christmas shopping?
Speaker 2 (27:59):
I did the rest of it yesterday, so I'm actually
in the clear, right. What about you?
Speaker 1 (28:04):
Well, after the pregame show, I went to Kroger and
got my Christmas grocery order finally picked out. You know,
spent like a gazillion dollars at Kroger on food, but
I've still got a couple Christmas gifts I still still
need to get.
Speaker 2 (28:17):
Yeah, go out into the chaos.
Speaker 1 (28:19):
Go out to the chaos tomorrow. It's what it's all about. Yeah,
all right, who's next, Cadence, Cadence, go ahead, Cadence.
Speaker 7 (28:27):
Yeah, so I'm called her. A couple of weeks ago
before we played Going Zaga talked about Jasper, but uh,
I just got to come back with good compliments about
how Jasper played today. I thought he played really good.
He had some good shots, and I thought he played
well today. And then obviously we're not talking about that
much though, because Cam Williams went insane.
Speaker 1 (28:46):
But uh yeah, all right, appreciate it. Cadence. Yeah, we
knew well. Jack and I talked about on the pregame show,
how this was a Jasper Johnson game with low out.
We both felt like they were to give Jasper a
lot of minutes at point guard, let him kind of
get the these confidence back a little bit and kind
of let him run the show. Uh, and he did.
And his assists per minutes played this year are off
(29:07):
the roof. I mean, he had seven assists today in
twenty two minutes. That's the thing that as from a
point guard perspective, that's the one thing he can do
in Lowe's absence. Now where Jasper I think was kind
of hurt himself a little bit, maybe taking some bad shots,
maybe rushing some shots. But that's just you know, will
come with experience and the more he learns and the
more he plays and gets some time on the floor.
(29:27):
Of course, I've been you know, I'm a big Jasper fan,
so I'm gonna promote him a much Like people were
getting really frustrated with Jasper, I would say, just be
patient because that dude's a baller and he's you're gonna
need him with low shoulder throughout the season.
Speaker 2 (29:42):
Yeah, no doubt.
Speaker 3 (29:43):
I was one of them being harsh on Jasper in
the last couple of games. I mean, that's somebody Kentucky
paid a lot of money for. So I think he's
got high expectations. The team has high expectations for him.
But let's hopefully he can continue to progress.
Speaker 1 (29:53):
Right Yeah, because I be honest, I don't really like
Aberdeen at the point. I'd rather he'd play off the ball.
That's where his strength, that's where he's a better player,
and you need him out there. Maybe he's a defender,
and the way he shot the ball today, you know,
maybe a little more comfortable over there on the off
the ball a little bit with the Jasper getting a
lot of minutes at point. Who's next? Wayne, Wayne?
Speaker 6 (30:12):
Go ahead, Wayne, You got a couple of things on here.
Speaker 8 (30:17):
I was wanting to ask about. I mean, you know,
my son, he played college batasketball, said I talked to
he went the game. He's more analytical than I am.
And I talked about Jasper Johnson having six assists and
he goes, Dad, he goes, we were plus three when
he was in there. He goes, so, what you know?
I mean, we were only plus three. And also he says,
(30:41):
with the offense that Bellerman was running, they were on top.
I don't know all the words that he says. He says,
they're doing these back cuts. He said, why is he
Pope putting us in a three to defense? He said,
that would completely stop Bellerman's offense. If we would have
been in a three two.
Speaker 1 (31:03):
Maybe appreciate it, Wayne, And you know, I'm not for
sure about that, but maybe you know, they apparently, according
to the Jack, the Bellman offense was like the old
Princeton offense, kind of backscreens, running back doors, being very efficient.
He talked about how he had like eight passes and
the balling touched the floor one time, just you know,
really efficient. But like we said before, they did what
(31:28):
they wanted to against Kentucky's defense, and really Kentucky couldn't
stop them. They did whatever they wanted. So you know,
maybe your son dry maybe going to a three two
zone or some sort of zone, maybe switch it up,
maybe slowed them down a little bit and you know,
cut that down. But maybe Pope was trying to work
on something, you know, you know, I don't know. Wafa
way and see what he says that. What do you think, Billy.
Speaker 3 (31:48):
I'm just glad Bellerman didn't win. Shannon the dude would
have been insufferable.
Speaker 1 (31:52):
Oh my goodness. You know our preseason, our pregame picks
we picked, uh, you know, Mario puts it out on
social media on a graphic. He picks that Karazinsky dude
to be the player of the game all Bellerman, you know,
riding the belopmental train with Jack Karazinsky. But he did
have twenty four points in thirty minutes four rebounds.
Speaker 2 (32:13):
Yeah, he played good.
Speaker 1 (32:14):
He did play good. I think another phone call. Who
we got Sosa? Sosa? Go ahead, Sosa, Hey, what's going on?
Speaker 9 (32:22):
Guy's married Christmas to you all?
Speaker 1 (32:23):
And think you.
Speaker 9 (32:26):
Uh quick question, kind of random. So I am interested
in here in Matt's debut. How do you listen to it?
Because I don't listen to ESPN I hate es. How
do I listen to the game?
Speaker 10 (32:44):
Is there an app?
Speaker 3 (32:47):
I you know, we're he's being an app as a
live radio feature if.
Speaker 9 (32:53):
You can't use that ESPN radio, Yeah.
Speaker 3 (32:57):
I don't know if the local affiliates are playing the game.
So this is your best bet?
Speaker 1 (33:00):
Is that's only way you're gonna hear it? Yeah?
Speaker 2 (33:02):
No, yeah, not iHeart the not iHeart.
Speaker 1 (33:07):
It gets strictly an ESPN broadcast, So that's the only
way you're gonna hear it's go yeah, go through that.
So but they kick off at five thirty, so about
the time we wrap up here on our post game show,
we can kind of tune in and see how do
I think he's gonna do fine. Billy, you've done play
by play. I've done play by play. I mean, of course,
not on this grand scale. When the college football game
and everybody's you know, in your card listening to ESPN Radio,
(33:29):
you're gonna hear Matt call this Western Kentucky Southern miss
Bowl game. How do you think he's gonna do?
Speaker 3 (33:35):
Yeah, if it is anybody else but Matt, i'd be worried.
I mean, Matt will find a groove. Know, he'll use
facts from the text line, it'll it'll sound like a
KSR show in a game. But it is not easy
to do play by play for your first time, Ryan,
So I'm I'm not gonna just say you can just
go in there and do it, because it is not
easy to paint a picture like that.
Speaker 1 (33:56):
You know, I've done play by play for swimming, tennis, baseball, softball, basketball, soccer.
I think those. Soccer was probably the hard because there's
a lot of kind of time you got to fill
during a soccer match, you know, and I don't know
the game as well unless you had. But swimming, can
you imagine do a play by play for a swimming event?
Speaker 3 (34:18):
I can't, And is this TV or radio TV? Well,
it was the easier to do I High.
Speaker 1 (34:24):
Remember the old I High broadcast. They had the contract
for the KHSAA. And I did the state tennis finals,
in the state swimming finals, in the States soccer finals. Uh.
And actually I called Tom Hammond before I did the swimming,
and I said, Tom, what do you do when you
call swimming? He goes, Look at this level, just make
sure you mentioned every kid's name. Mom and dad. Just
(34:45):
want to hear the kid's name. Go down everybody in
every lane, and then make sure you call the winner
right and you'll be just fine. So that's what I did,
you know, just make sure everybody's name got it mentioned,
and then call the finish.
Speaker 2 (34:58):
Well, you'll hear about it if you don't get the
names right.
Speaker 1 (35:01):
Amen? Yeah, all right, to get another phone call. Who
we got Graham? Graham? Go ahead, Graham.
Speaker 11 (35:07):
You know, I'm ten years old and it's my first
time at Ropperina turning the game and Kentucky, I mean,
they were just great. And it wasn't Kentucky that stung
me the most. It was Cam Williams with his three
eight threes, Like that's incredible. I mean, that's just crazy
how he can do those and while people are guarding
(35:29):
him he can still make them. And I mean Mark
Pope's be glad that he had a player that can
actually nail three and like good defense for him. So
it was crazy how Kim Williams was like on fire
and he oh we missed two of his thirties and
(35:51):
he was good to happen with oh way two. So
I hope you guys have.
Speaker 1 (35:55):
Married Christian graam Man. How about that comes of call
the day Billy. We just let let Graham cook right there,
he was cooking, praising on the swinging on the Cam
Williams train right there.
Speaker 2 (36:05):
That's right, great to hear Graham there.
Speaker 1 (36:06):
Good job Graham. Well, I think obviously Graham used to
go back to Upparenta says his first game, he needs
to go back. If Cam Williams is going to shoot
the ball like that, and you know, like like like
the one guy got the tweet from Billy. Maybe this
is the game where the shooting turns around. They maybe
they can figure out the defensive end, but the shooting
in is what's been kind of a problem most of
the season. Maybe this is a turnaround. You can't, can
(36:28):
you buy that.
Speaker 3 (36:29):
M maybe, but they did shoot thirty threes in the
game today. That's the kind of the Mark that they've
wanted to play.
Speaker 1 (36:35):
That's right, that's right, all right, it's good. Another call
for we'll go to a break. Who we got let's
go to Tom, Tom.
Speaker 10 (36:42):
Go ahead, Tom, Hey, good afternoon, gads. I was just
wanted with I don't know if y'all seen the heard
the show last night, but Mark Poe was how about
he gave his best speech to read Shepherd and then
at the at the very end of it, I'll read
was worried about was whether or not he's gonta his
socks and uh and we've all saw the Allen Cutler
(37:04):
uh thing with Mark and his socks. Uh, it was
kind of funny. So it would be a good play
to have a charity event and have everybody bring some
socks referend and maybe remonated to the homeless shelter something
over there, have a sock out night or something over there.
But uh, cats are gonna be all right. I think
Williams is my favorite player on the team. Oh yeah,
and uh, you guys have a great show.
Speaker 1 (37:24):
Hang on, Tom, Tom, are you still there? Yes, sir,
what kind of bird you got back there?
Speaker 10 (37:31):
I got a parakeet and two whibbets.
Speaker 1 (37:34):
What's a what's a whibbet?
Speaker 12 (37:37):
Uh?
Speaker 10 (37:37):
It kind of looks like a grayhound, but uh, you've
probably seen him in the target commercial.
Speaker 8 (37:43):
Uh.
Speaker 10 (37:44):
It's kind of in between a greyhound and a and
a an Italian greyhound. But they're you know, they kind
of look like a greyhound. They're in the greyhound family.
Speaker 1 (37:50):
But the parakeets weren't making the noise back there.
Speaker 10 (37:54):
Yeah, when I when you get on the phone or something,
she'll start chirping.
Speaker 1 (37:58):
She just wants to talk to you too. So all right,
appreciate it, Tom. How do you get holiday show too?
Speaker 8 (38:02):
Everybody wants to get everybody.
Speaker 1 (38:05):
Well, there we go, especially when Billy's running ship. That's
when everybody wants to call and get on. All right,
appreciate it, Tom, Thank you very much. All right, we'll
take our final break. Come back in our final segment,
Kat's a winner over Bellerman. Happy holidays, Big Blue Nations
should be happy. Got a little extra win in your stocking.
We go into the holiday season. We're right back. Wrap
it up here in the local Total leaders KSR postgame show,
(38:26):
All right, welcome back, final segment the Local Total Leaders
KSR postgame Show. This is our last live segment until
what Billy till Monday.
Speaker 2 (38:34):
Monday, that's right.
Speaker 1 (38:36):
Because we have a best of show on KSR for
Christmas Eve Tomorrow, Christmas Day, Thursday, and then even the
day after Christmas we have a best of show. So, uh,
this is our last chance to get on live with us.
If you want to call, get on board eight five
nine two two two eight seven. We'll get a couple
phone calls in. Uh, Billy, you know, I gotta say,
I can talk to you about something.
Speaker 2 (38:56):
What's that?
Speaker 1 (38:59):
My buddy Phil text me all the time when the
show listen to the show, says, this is the text
he just sent me. We can tell it's the holiday season.
Billy was actually nice to a kid who called the
postgame show.
Speaker 2 (39:12):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (39:12):
I got to rehab my image a little bit with
the kids, Ryan, so I'd try to be nice when
they have a good call.
Speaker 2 (39:19):
Graham had a good call, yeah, so he deserved it.
Speaker 1 (39:23):
I'll tell you a little a little behind the scenes
about Billy today too. We had our Christmas holiday party.
What day was that Friday? Yeah? Friday? Yeah? Was that yesterday,
My good yesterday. Yeah, it was yesterday, and there was
a luncheon and there was some sandwiches left over from
the luncheon, and they told Billy, help yourself. You know,
(39:45):
when you come in on Saturday, run the game, there'll
be some lunch for you in the refrigerator. So Billy,
kind of long day today. Game starts at one. He's
got to come in about could you come in about
nine o'clock, ten o'clock you get ready for the game,
So you're gonna be there all throughout the lunch hour.
You go hungry. You know, I have my stomach starting
(40:05):
to require a little bit. I need to go get
something neat going in there with the break room, open
up the refrigerator, crickets. Somebody took your sandwiches, Billy, But
it was here.
Speaker 2 (40:15):
They were there when I got here today.
Speaker 3 (40:17):
So like in between nine thirty and like one pm,
somebody had taken every sandwich out of the fridge. And
there was only three people here besides me today, So
I messaged each person and they all denied it.
Speaker 2 (40:28):
So I don't I don't know what to do.
Speaker 1 (40:29):
Okay, let's go down the culprits. Who is there today?
Speaker 2 (40:31):
Is Brandon Kathy in case.
Speaker 1 (40:34):
Okay, it wasn't Kathy. Kathy's the boss. She bought them
to start with everybody, so she's out, So down to
Brandon her case, two highly likely suspects. There's no doubt
about it.
Speaker 3 (40:46):
Yeah, Case said, no, sir, may have gotten thrown out
because of holidays.
Speaker 1 (40:50):
And who's gonna throw it out. They wouldn't have thrown
out that, that's who it is.
Speaker 3 (40:53):
Yeah, and then Brandon said, Kathy may have thrown them out.
I didn't touch the sandwiches so well, guardless, I didn't
have lunch today, but did have some cookies we've we've
held over for the Christmas cookies.
Speaker 1 (41:06):
The Christmas cookies are still there so well. Of course,
now as soon as the show's over, I'm done for
the day. You get a load a couple of Dick
Gabriel Best of shows coming up, a couple of ks
Are best of shows, and Matt Jones podcast. You still
got a lot of work to do today.
Speaker 3 (41:19):
Here for a while, so I'll be tuning into Matt
and your stomach's are rent rumbling.
Speaker 2 (41:24):
Yeah, maybe the game will be over by the time
I get out of here.
Speaker 1 (41:27):
All right, let's get a couple of calls and we'll
wrap it up and get out here so Billy can
do his other job. Who we got, Billy, Noah, go ahead, Noah.
Speaker 13 (41:35):
Hey, Ryan and Billy, thank you for taking my call.
Speaker 5 (41:38):
Two things for you.
Speaker 13 (41:40):
First off, I don't know when I've been had to
recent memory another UK game where we've had a more
disappointing ninety nine point win. Now I was getting ninety
nine points, but a ninety nine point win, and we
just there's a lot of highlights, good things, no doubt,
but just still kind of looking and that's kind of
(42:00):
disappointing as in somewhat overall us, especially from the defense.
A lot of praise is still get from the offense,
but still kind of a bit of a at this
pointing win, you know what I mean, getting ninety nine points.
Speaker 1 (42:15):
Yep, No, we appreciate it. Yeah, Billy, the spread was
Kentucky by like thirty five and a half and they
won by fourteen.
Speaker 3 (42:25):
Yeah, and they didn't play Jalen low and and Quentin's
only played eight minutes. We do have to think about that.
This is what we wanted. We wanted to keep those
guys healthy and ready to go for the SEC. But yeah,
it is not the best ninety nine.
Speaker 1 (42:38):
And no disrespect to Bellerman, but even without those guys,
you should not let them score eighty five points at
rupp Aerna, you know what I mean. Yeah, so they
had forty seven points in the second half. Bellman did.
Speaker 7 (42:55):
Well.
Speaker 1 (42:55):
Of course Kentucky had fifty three, but Bellman they gave
up forty seven points in the second half. He the
next color who we got.
Speaker 2 (43:01):
We got three more here, Ryan.
Speaker 1 (43:02):
Three more. We'll get out of here and wish everybody
to marry Christmas.
Speaker 2 (43:05):
Boys is up next?
Speaker 12 (43:06):
Boy, I'm miss wondering what I think Jay Lowe is
going to have to have the surgery so he'd come
back next year. Quite I don't know why he did
not play, because I don't think the guys from Georgetown
and uh those other two guys not ready to play.
(43:29):
And miss wondering if if, if Mark Pope is going
to have to Tim you're going to have to have
the surgery. We're going to medical rest.
Speaker 1 (43:41):
You cut out, boys, who you want a medical red
shirt to? Jalen low He's gone, okay, thank you boys.
Speaker 3 (43:47):
So I think we've played too many games for him
to get a medical red shirt.
Speaker 2 (43:50):
I could be wrong, but.
Speaker 1 (43:53):
And he he has proven he wants to play. I mean,
there were some people in his camp that were ready
to shut him down. Have the surgery getting ready. I mean,
he's still got two years of eligibility left. There were
people in his camp on his side that were pulling
that way. He himself wants to play, wants to be
a part of this team. And he showed me everything
(44:16):
I need to know about that kid in the last
couple of games. The one game was against Indiana where
he dove on the sideline, dove almost crashed into the
scorer's table. Come on, man, that's just putting his body
out there. And then he gets hurt against Saint John's
and comes back at halftime, puts on his Superman cape
and comes down and wins the game for us in
(44:36):
the second half. That kid, that's a tough, tough kid
right there, and they are so much better when he's
on the floor. He wants to be a part of
this There's gonna be some games we're not gonna have him,
and there's gonna be games like today where maybe you
sit him. But if he wants to play, he's gonna
end up being a fan favorite. What do you think, Billy.
Speaker 3 (44:52):
Well, it's easier said than done. I mean, you look
at those guys in the locker room. You want to
fight for your brothers, right, So just to hang it
up and watch and play the rest of the year
without you is proadly really tough. So you know, I'd
probably do the same thing if I was jen Low
and would want to play with them and fight out,
fight through the pain.
Speaker 1 (45:09):
Who's our next caller? Who? We got two more? We've
got Casey up next, Casey, go ahead, Casey.
Speaker 14 (45:15):
Hey, Good afternoon fellers.
Speaker 1 (45:17):
Hello failers. How are you failers.
Speaker 14 (45:21):
I'm pretty good. I've made seven dozen cookies today.
Speaker 1 (45:24):
Wow. Well, Billy would appreciate some, because Billy's hungry.
Speaker 14 (45:29):
Playing all day to day. But I just had a
couple of things. I just cam Williams, what a game. Secondly,
Jalen Quainton or it's gonna be just He's just a
difference maker. And I just think without him playing today
is why they scored so many points. I think if
he was out there it would have been as bad.
And I just wanted to say great job to Maggie Davis.
(45:51):
She was on the call in the middle of the games.
And interviewing the coaches and stuff that has to be
kind of hard. So and I wanted to wish Matt
good luck and tell you all them Merry Christmas.
Speaker 1 (46:01):
Go get Casey, Merry Christmas to you and your son,
and you're all your family over there, and we've got
to know you guys a little bit. So I hope
you have a good, good break and a good happy
holidays and merry Christmas. You know, Billy, she's right about
KSR pre show host Maggie Davis. She is a rising star.
You're gonna have to She's gonna she could be too
big to come on your show anymore and co host
with you. She's like a rising star in the business.
Speaker 3 (46:22):
Yeah, she'll be doing the Katie George track here in
no time, I'm sure.
Speaker 1 (46:27):
Well, she's good at it, you know. Yeah, she knows
what she's talking about. She works hard at it, she
prepares the right way. So uh, I know all of
ks are very proud of her and her her growth.
And Casey talked about Jad and Quaintans, you know, without
him and without even without Brandon Garrison. Maybe that's one
reason why Belderman was kind of able to dominate a
lot in the second half had forty seven points. Because
(46:47):
your two kind of your two rim protectors out there,
and Marino can't play every minute of every game. I
know they tried to yelevate some, they tried to diabode some.
But does that factor into the defensive woes when you
didn't have Quaintance or Brandon Garton out there?
Speaker 2 (47:01):
Yeah, no, it absolutely does.
Speaker 3 (47:02):
But I don't care, like you got to you gotta
play better, right, I mean, ultimately, you are supremely more
talented than the other team. It's just Bellerman executed their
stuff better than you, and you've got to live with that.
But ultimately you did get the win, right, I got it.
Speaker 1 (47:19):
I've been waiting to the lane end of the show
to say this. I don't like Bellerman. I don't like
them at all. When I was at Kentucky Wesleyan, they
were in our conference and they were like our big
time rival. USI and Bellerman were our big time rivals.
Now Bellerman thinks they're all high in mind because they
went Division one. I don't like them. I don't like
Shannon the dude. I don't like Bellerman. I don't like
Scotti Wigan. Uh, they don't like Scotty Davenport. I don't
(47:43):
like the other coach. I don't like anything with Bellerman,
so I need to get that off there off my chest.
All right, who's who's our last calling?
Speaker 2 (47:49):
Bob finishes out for us.
Speaker 1 (47:52):
You're on, Bob?
Speaker 15 (47:55):
All right, Billy and Ryan, Merry Christmas. Thanks for doing
the post game. We appreciate it. I could say everything
everybody has already been said. The defense scared us, JQ
is just gonna be an awesome thing, and we need
to get Low back in to have a good season.
But as we get ready to get into SEC play,
(48:15):
let me ask both of you guys, I want your
opinion as well. Billy, if you had to pick three
players that we're gonna develop the most, not counting Low
and JQ, which three players are gonna evolve and become
better or superstars during that sixteen game conference portion of
(48:36):
our schedule.
Speaker 1 (48:38):
Great question to end on. Boll appreciate it, we again,
says the callers corrected us. It's an eighteen game SEC schedule,
So Billy, let's let's just take turns picking. When you
got to pick three guys we're gonna see maybe grow
and get better during the SEC season, I'm gonna go first, Okay,
Jasper Johnson. I'm not I'm the on the Jasper train.
(48:59):
He's got guys, that's just kind of he's just kind
of learning the game. He's got the offensive skills. He's
just gonna learn the college game. I think Jasper be
on my list.
Speaker 3 (49:06):
Who you got Jasper is a good one because you
think low might miss some time yep, and he'll have
to step up. I would give you an easy answer
in Cam Williams. I mean, he was the star tonight,
but before tonight, his defense has been really good. It's
kept him on the floor. It's allowed to space the
floor a little bit. I think he finds himself eventually
playing major minutes.
Speaker 1 (49:26):
So I guess we probably can't say Jaden Quaint's or
Jalen Lowe.
Speaker 3 (49:29):
That was the two he said, you can't Yeah, I
can't say them. Yeah we need so who you like
becoming that next star for Kentucky out of the group.
Speaker 1 (49:38):
Well, I mean, there's some easy answers to give, but
I'm gonna go with Colin Chandler. I think Colin is
kind of heaving in the December slump, and he started
out being our best three point shooter percentage wise to
start the season, then got into a little bit of
a funk and a shooting slump, and I think he's
a guy that's gonna finally get back to that Colin Channer.
We saw it the first of the season and at
the end of last season when he finally got his
(49:59):
group going on a little bit. So I'll go, Colin Chandler,
who you got.
Speaker 3 (50:01):
I would say Aberdeen just because he's able to play
off the ball if Jalen Lowe is playing significant minutes
and to me, that knocks some of Colin Chandler's minutes
out of the way. So maybe one of those two,
you know, rising would be really good for Kentucky this year.
Speaker 1 (50:17):
And my last one. I know it seems crazy, but
Jack Pilgrim and I have been tooting the yellowvich horn
since this summer. I don't know. And he's a guy
that can do the one thing that Pope wants the
four guy to do, stand in a corner and hit threes.
He's the one guy that can do that. Between Diabata
and Marino and Garrison, guys that may rotate out in
(50:38):
the four little bit. So there's gonna be one. Get
Markus down, Billy, there's gonna be a game in SEC
play where he's gonna hit like four to three pointers
and win the game for us, Yellovich is my answer.
Speaker 2 (50:50):
That's hopeful.
Speaker 3 (50:51):
Thinking he would be a definitely a different dynamic for
this team. I just you know, we haven't seen a
lot out of him yet and some of the body
language hasn't been great.
Speaker 1 (51:01):
Who's your last guy then? Do we?
Speaker 3 (51:02):
Oh, we we're doing three each? Okay? You know what
if Brandon Garrison isn't going to be the guy, I
think Malachi Moreno's got to play some spot minutes every
now and then.
Speaker 2 (51:13):
Is that crazy, Ryan?
Speaker 3 (51:14):
I mean, if Diabate and Quainton's are going to be
your superstars, I mean there's gonna be some time, some
pivotal moments where foul trouble or maybe early on in
a game where.
Speaker 2 (51:23):
I think Malachi Moreno can make an impact.
Speaker 3 (51:25):
But this this will be his first SEC season, So
I say that hesitantly, but I think I'll throw him
as my third.
Speaker 1 (51:31):
You know, Malack is a guy that earned the minutes
by just doing the doing the right things from the
five spot, google getting rebounds, playing good post defense and
things like that. He's a guy that I like that
answer a locke. I think he can. He's gonna go
see him. Him and Jasper both grow as they learned
the college game a little bit. So I think we
got a pretty good list. But you know, neither one
of us, said Trent Noah.
Speaker 3 (51:50):
Yeah, I don't think he's on the outside looking in,
don't you.
Speaker 1 (51:55):
I'm still hopeful, but I think his minutes are going
to decrease as these guys get healthy and start plan better.
So any three out third to night gave him a
good chance to try to do something.
Speaker 3 (52:05):
Only nine minutes tonight against Bellerman. Yeah, you think this
would be the game where you build some confidence.
Speaker 1 (52:12):
I agree. I agree. Well, Kentucky gets to win improved
the nine and four going into the holiday season and
then the SEC season on behalf of everybody here at KSR.
We wish all of our listeners a very merry Christmas,
a happy holiday. We'll be back live during the show
on Monday. That day is whether that's the twenty ninth, Monday,
the twenty ninth of our next live show. Uh you know,
(52:35):
we our KSR family is going through some struggles right
now with some of our man I didn't want to
get emotional, but some of our family is struggling right
(52:57):
now and they need us so hanging there with them. Man,
this is the holiday season. That's when they can use
your thoughts and prayers. And we got a couple of
guys or our our families that need you, so just
remember them this holiday season. So all right, it's kind
of here. What frock get off, terry, What a what
a great day it's been. Happy holidays, Merry Christmas. We'll
(53:18):
see everybody on Monday. Goodbye.
