Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome everyone. This is the local Toyota Dealers KSR postgame show.
It was a great victory tonight for Kentucky, who after
a slow slow start, was able to get a win
one O five to seventy six at home tonight against
Georgia State. It was an exciting game. One of the
(00:21):
best crowds for a game against a non conference team
that I have seen in years. Literally, I think you
have to go back years to find a non conference
game with this level of a crowd. It was awesome
to see and not only was a great crowd in
terms of attendance, it was a great crowd in terms
(00:43):
of sort of noise. I really it was a cool
night to watch and the Cats get a victory. That
also gives us a lot to talk about. So let's
just go over some things. One O five seventy six Kentucky.
If you look at the stats, this was a game
that it was close at times but could have been
lost closer. I mean, they ended up winning by thirty,
(01:03):
but Georgia State shot fifty two percent from three. They
were eleven for twenty one from three, whereas Kentucky was
seven for twenty six, shooting twenty six percent. You know,
you get a fifty two to twenty six percent difference,
that's usually a bad sign, but Kentucky got through it.
Kentucky still shot sixty percent from the field, even going
(01:26):
seven for twenty six from three. Just doing a little
math here, that means that they went I mean, think
about this for a minute, Billy. That by my math,
Kentucky went thirty three of forty one from two in
this game.
Speaker 2 (01:43):
It's impressed.
Speaker 1 (01:44):
Crazy, Yeah, thirty three of forty one on Tuesday this game.
That's amazing, and that's how they ended up winning. You know,
you can talk about the individual efforts in the game.
You had six different people in double figures, led by
Jackson Robinson with nineteen, Butler had seventeen. Williams Maari Williams,
(02:05):
who I thought wasn't great in the first half but
really came on in the second half. How about my guy,
Anslee Almanor. I've been telling you about this guy, Billy
since since beyond day. Yeah, I've been telling you to
actually went seven guys in double figures. Kobe Brada did too,
but Almanor with twelve, car with ten, Bray with ten,
seven guys in double figures and Kirk Creasas one short
(02:27):
with nine, so I'm not sure how you can have
a more balanced effort get a win. I think the
big takeaway from the game will be the fight Clash Peters,
which of course Ryan on the pregame show said was
his favorite player because of his name. Clash Peters started
a fight. What I found interesting about it was a
(02:49):
very cheap shot by the kid. You cannot undercut a
guy when he jumps up in the air. That's how
people can get really, really hurt. The whole team jumped in.
I wouldn't have thought of Kobe Brea as the first
one ready to go, but he was ended up getting
a technical. Mark Pope was out in the court grabbed
one of the Georgia State guys to get him to
(03:10):
calm down. I'm still not sure how old Clash didn't
end up getting kicked out. He got a technical and
a flagrant, and somehow he didn't get kicked out, and
the ref gave the signal to kick him out. But
I guess somehow he didn't get kicked out. What I
didn't know at the time is that Cherokee Parks. A
(03:31):
lot of the older listeners here will remember Cherokee Parks
played for Duke. He made Billy my list of the
ten most hated Duke players.
Speaker 2 (03:38):
I remember that.
Speaker 1 (03:39):
Actually Cherokee Parks, who people said I look like when
I was in high school, and I didn't like that
at all. That is Cherokee Parks. Clash Peters is Cherokee
Park's nephew. You may remember if you listened that show
a couple of weeks ago for the Duke game. When
I was reading my All Time Hated Duke Players, I
mentioned that Cherokee Park's sister was in a punk band.
(03:59):
You remember me saying that, Yes, she was the lead
singer of a pope man. That's his mom.
Speaker 2 (04:04):
Oh my god, that's his mom.
Speaker 1 (04:06):
And I can't even say on the radio what the
name of the band is. I literally can't. I'm not
allowed to say the name. But not only do I
remember the band. They played in Lexington at Lina's once
and I didn't go, but I had a couple of
friends who did go. So Clash Peter's mother one's played
(04:26):
punk rock at Lina's in Lexington. How about that factoid? Tonight? Otherwise,
look Kentucky seven and oh, first time they've been seven
and oh since the Fox Monk BAM season, which I
think coincidentally is the probably the last time Kentucky had
(04:47):
like a national title contender team. Some people think that
the team with the tournament that got canceled by COVID,
that maybe that was a title contender. I don't know, maybe,
but without question, the twenty seventeen team was, and that's
the last time they've been undefeated through November. But it
gets hard this week, all right, it gets hard this
(05:08):
week at Clemson at Gonzaga, two road games. We're gonna
be at one of them. I think it's gonna be
really interesting to see what this team does. Clemson not
as good maybe as we thought they'd be, but still
six and one, but took a thirteen point loss to
Boise State and then Gonzaga. I think it can be
really good, although they did lose in the Bahamas this weekend,
(05:31):
so now Tucky gets a chance to show off their
road grit over the course of the next week. I
will say, as good as this was for me, I
remember two things about this game, well, maybe three. I
remember the way dunk, which was an awesome dunk reverse
(05:52):
on the runout. I will remember the fight and then
I'm gonna remember what happened after the game where if
you didn't hear it, Mark Pope looked at the people
that were left at the postgame show. I saw somebody
say two hundred, Billy, I think it was a lot
more than two hundred. I would say more like seven
or eight hundred. I saw them, you know, I saw
(06:16):
the picture. It looked probably like six to eight hundred.
Mark Pope bought them all ice cream. He said, my
credit card is at the ice cream stand. Everyone can
have as much free ice cream as they want going home.
I mean that's a lot of ice cream, Billy. How
much do you think that ice cream cost? How much
did a cone it cost? It rep the famous Taylor
Bell ice cream.
Speaker 2 (06:36):
That's a great question. I'm not sure, but it's gotta
be five bucks, right, it's more than that.
Speaker 1 (06:42):
I bet it's like six. You think it's fives. I
mean it's at rough, so it's gonna be more six
to eight. Somebody knows. You can text me seven seven
two seven seven four five two five four. Let's say
that they're let's just say it's six dollars. If all
if six hundred Peas people got it, you know, that's
thirty six hundred's. I know he makes a lot of money,
(07:03):
but that's a big chunk of change on ice cream.
But Mark Pope said, I don't have time to sign autographs,
so I'm gonna do this. I just think that's a
really cool thing to do. You know, I sat here
waiting for a lot of postgame shows over the last
few years, and I heard a lot of what what
(07:25):
would happen? And let's just say, this is so refreshing
to just have a coach that's so happy with the fans.
He said that. Kerk Krisa said during the time out,
look at how many people are here for a game.
This happens nowhere else and it doesn't. And the energy
we had at the bar before the game, it was
(07:46):
like a football game in there. And then the uh
you know this evening tonight, the victory. Just a great time.
And now we get a chance to go on the
road and do it twice next week, two games that
I think will be really uh really interesting. I personally,
if we could go one and one, I'll take it.
(08:07):
Don't want to go oh and two, two and zero
would be great, But I think if we go one
and one beat Colgate obviously gotta beat Louisville, beat Ohio State.
I mean we could go in commerce play with one loss.
I think that's legitimately a possibility. I don't think. I
think a little is better than I thought. They don't were,
but Ohio State might be a little worse, and Clipson
(08:30):
might be a little worse. So you know, four games.
I think you go three and one, you'd be pretty happy.
But one of the three has to be Louisville. But
they're better, they're better. They did well. I mean they
lost today, but they did well in the Bahamas eight
five to nine two eight oh twenty two eighty seven.
Text Machine is seven seven two seven seven four five
(08:52):
two five four. We will take a break, Cats get
a victory. We're gonna go until a little before eleven thirty,
and then we're all gonna go to bed because we
got a pregame show tomorrow at eight in the morning.
Billy for the Cats and the Cards. You ready for
that two hours?
Speaker 2 (09:06):
I'll be ready.
Speaker 1 (09:07):
Yeah, somebody please get up and listen. I have a
feeling that first hour is gonna be like me, and
we're gonna be hoping. Also, it looks like Max Duffy
is going to Seattle as it les Lexington, Christian loses
up at Peachwood, so and Douglas loss, so Ryan doesn't
have to fly home, so it will be a full
house for the trip out west with KSR. And this
(09:29):
is the Local Toy Dealers KSR post game show Welcome Back.
It is the Local Toy Dealers KSR postgame Show. Georgia
down twenty to thirteen with just six minutes to go
with their Well, I say their playoff lives on the line.
(09:49):
I'm not sure if that's true, because Billy like, they're
still in the SEC Championship either way, aren't they?
Speaker 2 (09:55):
I believe so, So I think they are so.
Speaker 1 (09:58):
I think they could lose this game, have three losses,
but they could still get in by winning the SEC Championship.
But this would make it to where if they lost,
they couldn't get in high school games going on around
the around the state. Like I said, Lexi, Christian loss,
it looks like Sayer beat Campbellsville. Actually, I'll I'll give
(10:22):
the other ones as I see them. I saw some
stories earlier, but the rest of it they've all gone away.
Oh excuse me. Christian Academy of Louisville beats Lexington Catholic
Earl Jones gets his revenge on Ryan Lemon. If I'm
nine two twenty two eighty seven, One person writes, do
(10:43):
you think you could give me a hint of what
clash Peter's mom's band's name is. I cannot. I don't
think there would be any way to do it. It
starts with Nashville, but I can't.
Speaker 2 (10:55):
Tell you the last word, and it rhymes with what.
Speaker 1 (10:58):
No, no, no, don't say you don't get don't just
rye Ryan Lemon. Let like, let it hang out there, okay,
don't don't take a joke and knocking it just it's
Nashville boy. Just look up punk band Nashville Blank. I
think you'll probably see it. But that's his Cherokee Park's
sister and clash Peter's mom and I had a chance
(11:22):
to go see him at Lina. Someone listening out there
may have seen them at Liners. Ice cream costs seven dollars.
Speaker 2 (11:28):
Bill, What that's the biggest surprise of the night. Seven dollars?
Speaker 1 (11:32):
Not crazy?
Speaker 2 (11:33):
Have you been to Sporting Man not lately? I'm stuck
in the studio.
Speaker 1 (11:37):
Yeah, I min a soda is like eight or nine dollars,
so it's not crazy that ice cream would be seven dollars,
So that's adding up. I did that once at the bar.
I was like, hey, I'll buy everybody, and then all
of a sudden you get the filling. You're like, oh,
wait a minute, that's more expensive than I realized. All right,
who's up for Jordan? Jordan? Go ahead, Jordan.
Speaker 3 (12:00):
A man. I thought it was great the adversity that
the team thought through the first half. And I also
thought it was great that Patrick Sparks was the Why.
Just wanted to give a shout to the guy that
was there tonight, Larry the COVID toe Johnson and Pepon.
And what do you think about the fact that the
Tyson Chicken Food pr Company slash John cal Praody is
(12:23):
now writing for Sports Illustrate.
Speaker 1 (12:25):
Yeah, I saw that article. That was ridiculous. Appreciate the call.
I you know, I agree with you about the adversity.
I mean that it was fifty I mean we won
by twenty nine. At one point, we were up by
thirty four, and you know we were only up six
(12:45):
with fifteen minutes ago. I mean, that's what's great about
this team and we won without shooting threes. I mean,
are three We only hit seven threes and two of
them were at the very end, So I mean we
won this game. We took a team that I was
listening to Pope say they played a style that is
very rare. What was it driving and dunk or driving
(13:05):
I can't remember what he said it was, but basically
that their bigs come over and try to seal your
man off to give layups and then put backs and Pope,
so there's only a couple of teams that play it,
and yet we outscored them by forty and we outscored
them by forty in the paint. So I mean, that's
that's a really good and encouraging sign for this offense
(13:30):
win a lot of different ways. That's what I think.
That's what you want to see. By the way, I am,
I am amazingly excited about this team, And as I
talked about on the pregame show, I mean, I've watched
now the best teams in the country all play, and
I think we look like we can compete with any
of them this next weekend. This next week though, is
(13:52):
gonna tell me, like, do I ramp up the excitement
from This is gonna be a good year too, Okay, Like,
what are the in San Antonio? Billy like, like this
is the week, not that we have to win both games.
We win one and then Gonzaga is a game with
two or three minutes to go, we might be looking like,
all right, is the riverwalk fun in San Antonio? You know,
(14:15):
cause San Antonio's one of the biggest cities in America.
I've never been to. We're gonna go to one of
them on this trail Portland. I've never been there, and
I've never been to San Antonio. This would be a
nice time to go. Who's next? Jonathan Jonathan, go ahead,
Jonathan touchdown Georgia Tech. Wow, Georgia is gonna go down
at home to Georgia Tech.
Speaker 4 (14:34):
Go ahead, let's go. All right, So the two quick things.
One I've just noticed like since Pope has come here,
my expectations have raised so much as far as execution,
Like anytime we have a possession where we get a
mid range jump shot or a contestant shot, like, I'm
frustrated and that was just kind of the norm under cow.
Speaker 1 (14:57):
No, You're right, Like it's like you go, wait a minute,
what do we do it were supposed to a three
year layup. You're exactly right. Doesn't happen a lot though.
Speaker 4 (15:05):
Right, Yeah, So I think that's great that he's changed
that culture. And then two, I think Pope's like a
really intentional guy as far as leadership in psychology. And
if you already said this, sorry I may have missed
the intro. But you know why he went after like
number seven of the other team to pull him away
in that skirmish, you.
Speaker 1 (15:24):
Know, I don't know. I think, yeah, I don't know.
I mean, I think maybe that was just where he
was the closest. I'm not sure. Maybe he thought seven
was the most angry. I don't think it was intentionally
like I'm gonna go after the other team. I think
maybe he just ran natural instinct to break it up.
But I don't know. I mean, it is it's rare
to see a coach grab another teams player, and I
(15:46):
think coaches don't like when other coaches do that. But
I also didn't see the Georgia State coach mad because
probably because he's like, well, I can't be mad at
Mark Pope, So so I don't read much into it. Honestly,
I appreciate the call. I did read something into those
threes at the end. You know, there's a lot of
people Billy who maybe had some dollars on the cats
(16:11):
to cover. They probably thought they had no chance at it,
and then we hit it and then courageacked those threes
at the end and they ended and they ended up covering.
We didn't cover the spread they ended up actually doing.
So it was a tough break if you had Kentucky tonight.
Speaker 2 (16:27):
Yeah, I guess he was going for a thousand points
on his.
Speaker 1 (16:29):
Yeah, I didn't know that, so I guess. So when
you hear the story, when I saw him shoot at
three straight times without passing, I was like, what are
you doing? Man? But then I guess he was at
nine hundred and ninety seven points. He needed three more
for a thousand. And his family is here from Estonia,
so I think I guess he wanted to hit it
(16:51):
while they were here, and so that I think that
makes it completely justifiable. But there was a little ball
hall gishingess there at the end. It was kind of
like playing with Billy and pick up like he was
like cross half court and it goes up brick. That's
that's the Billy Rutledge experience as well.
Speaker 4 (17:08):
Is that right?
Speaker 1 (17:09):
Yeah, that's what I hear. We haven't played, but I
mean I hear it. Who's next, Jeff, Jeff? Go ahead, Jeff?
Speaker 4 (17:17):
Hey Man's Jeff and Barclay.
Speaker 5 (17:18):
How are you doing tonight?
Speaker 1 (17:19):
Good? What's up?
Speaker 4 (17:21):
No, it's much.
Speaker 5 (17:22):
I got two quick things. First thing is I'm ready
to say la Mon Butler is the best point guard
in the country, especially defensively.
Speaker 1 (17:30):
Defensively, he is a beast, and I mean he he
never gives the opposing point guard like anything. He never
never gives him a break.
Speaker 6 (17:45):
All right.
Speaker 5 (17:46):
My second thing, really quickly is with our non conference schedule,
the rest of it clearing out, with the opponents kind
of shaping up in our favor.
Speaker 4 (17:54):
What keeps you from saying we can go undefeated in December?
Speaker 1 (17:59):
I mean nothing? I mean just well, I mean, I
guess it's possible if I were to say, like, what
makes what keeps me from thinking it just numbers? I mean,
you're playing four difficult games. Uh, two of them are
on the road, one of them is on a neutral site,
only ones at home. I just feel like you probably
(18:21):
stumble one of them. But like, is it crazy to
win them? All. No. I mean, if I were to
rank them in difficulty, I would say the two next
week or the hardest Gonzaga one, then at Clemson, and
then I guess I would say I guess I'd say
Louisville just because I think they can get if you know,
(18:43):
if they if they were to hit threes. I think
they shoot a lot of threes. I don't know if
they make a lot. But and then I guess Ohio State.
But all four of those games are winnable. Three of them,
you're gonna be the favorite, and I doubt we're the
favorite at Gonzaga.
Speaker 5 (18:59):
Saying I'm pretty much across the board there.
Speaker 7 (19:02):
Also, I can't stand the media love for over right now.
Speaker 4 (19:05):
But that'll be a great game.
Speaker 1 (19:06):
Well, I mean, look, they deserve it. They've been awful,
I mean awful. I appreciate the call for three years,
so I mean, I get them being excited, and I
hate that their dude got hurt today. I mean that
that they had. The guy said, look like Pete Davidson
Pryor I think is his name. He got hurt today
and it looked bad. I hope he's not out for
(19:29):
the year. Seriously, I said that. But I mean it
like that would stink because he's he's played well, and
you know they're gonna they're gonna be competitive. I wasn't
sure after the Tennessee game if they would, but they're
gonna be competitive. They'd beat I mean Poort and Good
Indiana Good Grief lost by thirty to them, but they didn't.
(19:50):
They lost Oklahoma today. Here I saw a stat that
I didn't realize. Billy Louisville has had five coaches since
Rick Patino. Did you know that?
Speaker 2 (20:01):
Now that you say that, I wouldn't think.
Speaker 1 (20:03):
Okay, so let me do this. Let's let's try. Let's
try something here. Can you name the five Louisville head
coaches since Rick Patino? And by the way, they've each
coached at least eighteen games, so it's not like a
dude who just coached one game. Well, okay, one of
them hasn't coached eighteen yet, But like, how much can
(20:23):
you name the coaches?
Speaker 2 (20:24):
I just gave you a hint for one h David Paget.
Speaker 1 (20:27):
David Padget, Chris Mack, Pat Kelsey, Pat Kelsey, Payne, Kenny Payne.
Now can you name the fit?
Speaker 2 (20:34):
Yeah, he was the interim guy. I can't think of
his name, though.
Speaker 1 (20:37):
I I. Here's what's crazy. This guy coached Louisville for
eighteen games, and I don't know that I ever heard
his name spoken because I'm not sure I can even
pronounce it.
Speaker 2 (20:53):
Was it like Pegasus or something like that?
Speaker 1 (20:55):
Nice job? Mike pe g u e oh?
Speaker 2 (21:00):
Is that Pegesese? Pegeese?
Speaker 1 (21:04):
I had no idea that that dude coach Louisville and
he coached Louisville for eighteen games?
Speaker 2 (21:10):
Was that after Mac?
Speaker 1 (21:12):
That was when Mac was forced to resign? After the
whole uh? Dino Gaudio did? He ended up going to prison?
Speaker 2 (21:19):
I never saw that. Actually, I think he did.
Speaker 1 (21:22):
Know. Dino was like good, a nice guy. But Mike
Pegeese what a Louisville coach? No one will ever remember.
Who's next? Joey, Joey? You think they put him on
the highlight video? Put the Geese? When they do it? Joey,
go ahead, Joey, Hey, what's up?
Speaker 8 (21:40):
Second time?
Speaker 9 (21:41):
Long time?
Speaker 1 (21:42):
What's up?
Speaker 4 (21:45):
Hi?
Speaker 10 (21:45):
What's up?
Speaker 7 (21:46):
I have a two questions and then one second question
to the second question.
Speaker 8 (21:53):
Did it make you nervous at all?
Speaker 4 (21:56):
With these men? Major teams were playing that we haven't
played as hard we have the first three or four teams.
Speaker 1 (22:03):
No, And my second question is, I mean, there's no
team that plays all the time one hundred effort, and
I think.
Speaker 11 (22:12):
They plays Kentucky plays their like if they're Super Bowl.
Speaker 1 (22:15):
And we still won by thirty, Like that's another thing
to remember. We still won by thirty, like, I mean,
it feels this if this was a game that would
have been like an eight point game a few years ago,
we won by thirty. So so yeah, I mean the
first half was disappointing, but I mean, think about this,
it was disappointing. We still scored forty eight points or
forty five or whatever it was, right, So you know,
(22:37):
so I could only be so disappointed. What was your
second question?
Speaker 3 (22:41):
And my second question is do you think that club
I was gonna fow over two hundred yards?
Speaker 12 (22:47):
And if he fows over.
Speaker 4 (22:48):
Two hundred yards, do we have a victory.
Speaker 1 (22:52):
Question? I got good questions, you know. I I don't know.
I'm gonna say no, because I think they're gonna run
the ball a lot. I think if they do. The
thing is I think if they do, we probably win.
But there's also where we do because we're behind and
we throw the ball a lot. I don't have a
(23:15):
good feeling about tomorrow. I'm'na be honest with you. I
talked about it on Fade this. You'll hear me say
it on the pregame tomorrow. I don't like the vibes
around the team right now. I don't like the stuff
I'm hearing. I just I just don't feel good about it.
So this will probably be the first time. Well, I
(23:35):
guess I picked Louisville last year, but I think everybody did.
But I may I probably will pick Louisville tomorrow. I
just I don't. I just don't like where what I'm
what I'm hearing. So but you know, hopefully I'm wrong.
I'd love to be wrong. I was wrong last year,
and I was very happy about it. So if I'm
nine two eight oh twenty two eighty seven, let's do
one more and we'll take a break.
Speaker 2 (23:56):
Who's next, Alan, Alan?
Speaker 1 (23:58):
Go ahead? Alan, hey man?
Speaker 6 (24:01):
First time?
Speaker 10 (24:02):
Long time?
Speaker 1 (24:02):
Who are what's up?
Speaker 13 (24:06):
Uh?
Speaker 10 (24:06):
Not much. I'm gonna just say I'm a little fan.
Speaker 4 (24:09):
I listen to you.
Speaker 10 (24:12):
My dad's a Deason ticket.
Speaker 1 (24:14):
Holder and season ticket over your dad's season old ticket
holder for louis or Kentucky.
Speaker 10 (24:24):
For Kentucky football.
Speaker 1 (24:25):
Okay, so you're a Louisville fan, but your dad's a
season ticket holder on Kentucky.
Speaker 10 (24:29):
You go ahead, yeah, correct, And I've waited what is
about seven years? And now I'm gonna after tomorrow's ask kicking,
we give you all, I'm gonna smoke a cigar in
his face, in your dad's face, in my dad's face.
Speaker 1 (24:50):
That doesn't seem very nice though, I mean, he's he's
your father. You don't want to smoke a cigar in
his face.
Speaker 10 (24:57):
Oh, he's wrapped in enough for me. I'm gonna do
it to him.
Speaker 1 (25:02):
So what does he do? What does he do to
you when we've won? Because we've won what We've won
five straight football games, we've won what seven straight basketball games?
So what what does he do to you after those?
Speaker 10 (25:17):
It's just awful. Man. The will Levis, the Eils Down,
y'all started all that, It's all ells down, and I'm
just tired of it.
Speaker 12 (25:27):
Man.
Speaker 1 (25:28):
Well, I hope you don't get a chance to do it.
Just out of curiosity. If your dad was a Kentucky fan,
how did you end up being Darth Vader and going
to the dark side?
Speaker 10 (25:39):
Well, they tried, They tried the young age to raise
me on the on the blue side, I chose Rick.
Speaker 1 (25:50):
But you so you chose a life of misery instead
of happiness.
Speaker 10 (25:56):
Well, I'll choose Rick Patino over everything.
Speaker 1 (26:00):
All right, Well there are other people who've made that mistake,
but I understand. But listen, I wish I wish you
luck tomorrow, but not too much luck. And uh, either way,
call the postgame show, all right, and because I want
to hear if you actually do or if your dad
gets to mock you again. All right, appreciate the call.
(26:22):
Seems like a very well adjusted household there of cigar
smoke blowing in the face. Georgia scored quickly, so it's
just seven points. Georgia Tech's gonna need a first down
or Georgia will have a chance to tie the game.
This would be a brutal loss for Georgia Georgia Tech
if they score late and then are not able to win.
Let's see the pass. Oh nope, and it's incomplete. No
(26:46):
he caught it. Oh, but just shore the first down,
So a third and one coming up. If Georgia Tech
gets it, it's gonna it's gonna be hard for Georgia
to win. We'll take a break and be right back.
This is the Local Toylet Dealers KSR post game show,
walking back. It is the Local Toy Dealers KSR post
(27:07):
game show. All Right, I'm gonna give you the thing.
I'm going to rank what people get crazy angry about
Billy in order of like how much they get angry.
V are just at life, but vis a VI how
much they should Okay. In third place is in third
(27:29):
place is uku of l okay uk of l people
that guy with. Notwithstanding they get really angry about uh
and we're in that time, Like if we lose tomorrow, Billy,
I just stay off the phone, right like you just
stay off Like Number two is politics. People somehow believe
(27:53):
that if I tweet something about politics that that will
swing the election, and so they get very angry and
they yell at me and they think like they're solving
the nation's problems by yelling at me. But number one
in terms of sheer amount of anger that is crazy
in proportion to how much it should be is when
(28:15):
I we pick against a high school football team.
Speaker 2 (28:20):
I've seen.
Speaker 1 (28:22):
When we pick our games. And it's clear if you
listen to our high school picks that only Ryan has
any notion of any of it. Right, we don't know
what we're doing. We don't know these teams, we don't
know this game. We have no idea. But people get
so anger. So there are Sayer fans just absolutely going
(28:44):
crazy because we picked Campbellsville and Sayer won. Right, So
that I think is very funny to be the way
how angry people are. So congratulations to Sayer.
Speaker 2 (28:58):
Oh the bolletin board material. You'll give an out there across.
Speaker 1 (29:00):
Dude bulletin like in all the in all the locker rooms. Uh,
Paducah Tillman. By the way, the fighting Chattanoogas, as Ryan
called them, beat Corbin as well. Today they'll be in
the state championship game. Cooper beat Highlands, poor Corbin. I
guess all the Raceland won though, so we will have
one Mountain team playing for a state championship. That that
(29:21):
Georgia Tech got the first down Billy, but fumbled it
after they got the all you have to do is
fall down. Bumbled it, and now Georgia has a chance
to tie up and they'll win if they do. Unbelievable,
Georgia can still get the game boys living on borrowed time.
Who's next, Chris, Chris, go ahead, Chris, he.
Speaker 14 (29:45):
Uh a first time long time?
Speaker 1 (29:48):
Who are.
Speaker 14 (29:51):
Like I just want to appreciate the maturity of our
basketball team. They like clearly can handle incidents and you know,
collect themselves and you know, just move on, you know, not.
Speaker 1 (30:08):
It was clearly It's kind of what it got us going.
It was a six point game. It was a six
point game.
Speaker 7 (30:14):
On that well yeah, yeah, yeah, definitely.
Speaker 14 (30:17):
Like uh yeah, no, no, I thought that was great.
Speaker 15 (30:22):
My other point was you need to move the site
over to Blue Sky, like, uh, blue Sky is a
social media site that you know is less toxic.
Speaker 1 (30:38):
Yeah, people tell me that and I and I probably
at some point will create an account there. But the
problem is there are so many accounts now and I
spent many years building that Twitter went up, and it's
kind of like, I like, it's kind of like I
feel like head basketball coaches elon'll give it up at
some point, right Like And you know I say I
(31:01):
say about basketball and football coaches. You know, I was
here longer than they were and I've been on Twitter
since twenty eleven, and so I don't want to give
up that whole the following just because it's but but you,
but I probably will end up at some point going on.
Is it called blue sky? Yeah?
Speaker 15 (31:21):
Blue sky?
Speaker 1 (31:22):
All right?
Speaker 15 (31:23):
Yeah, like you know, it's just you know, just yeah, thanks,
appreciate the call.
Speaker 1 (31:28):
I just learned TikTok really and now they want me
to go on another side.
Speaker 2 (31:33):
Oh, you can have Mario post for you.
Speaker 1 (31:35):
I went and got on threads and now the only
thing on there are like it's now that's all porn
bots too, Billy.
Speaker 2 (31:41):
I I did it one day.
Speaker 1 (31:44):
I think everybody did it for one day and then
they never went back. But so I don't know how
many of these I'm supposed to do. What's next, Kate? Kate?
Go ahead, Kate? Either what's going on? Kate?
Speaker 5 (31:58):
All right?
Speaker 16 (31:59):
First time? Nine to nine year time quick questions? One
about basketball?
Speaker 1 (32:08):
Okay, what do you.
Speaker 16 (32:09):
Predict for our end of this year so into December?
Second question? I'm gonna do these real quick because I
want you to answer them all at the same time.
How's the cooking going? Because I'm retired chef, and I
see you and I don't see you cooking.
Speaker 1 (32:27):
I'm starting after our trip. I haven't started yet. I'm
gonna start after our trip. I didn't want to start
and then stop, So when we get back from our trip,
I'm starting.
Speaker 16 (32:36):
We're gonna keep you an honest van on that one, Okay.
Speaker 1 (32:38):
I will.
Speaker 16 (32:42):
Then go ahead with the basketball, Okay.
Speaker 1 (32:44):
I appreciate the call. The record at the end of December, well,
we'll have finished all of our non conference games, so
that's thirteen games. I'm gonna say twelve and one. I
thought it would actually be like ten and three or
eleven and two, but I'm gonna go ahead and say
twelve and one. I think we'll drop one of these,
(33:06):
probably one next week, either the Clemson or the Gonzaga game.
But I'm gonna say we go twelve and one. And
then in the SEC play man, I don't know, because
it's the league is gonna be so hard. I mean,
you know, Billy, the top five next week, four of
them may be SEC teams.
Speaker 2 (33:27):
Wow. In the Oklahoma.
Speaker 1 (33:30):
Oklahoma just won the Bahamas thing. Old Miss nearly won
their tournament, lost in overtime to Purdue. Florida beat a
team by like beat which tossed eight by forty today.
A and M I think is undefeated. Like it's crazy.
(33:50):
SEC is gonna be so good. You know, you could
go in the SEC in eighteen games. You could go
ten and eight and still be really good. Eleven and seven.
You know it's gonna be I mean, Oklahoma was projected
fifteenth in the league and they just won the Battle
for Atlantis, The Bad Boy Moor's Battle Bad Boys. Who's next, Todd, Todd?
(34:13):
What's up, Todd?
Speaker 6 (34:15):
Hey, Matt, Joel is about to score.
Speaker 1 (34:17):
We're here touchdown. They did score, they'll probably should they
kick the extra point? Here? You think? Or do you
you think they go for two?
Speaker 4 (34:26):
No?
Speaker 1 (34:26):
I say kick, Yeah, you're at home, you're the better team.
You kick the extra point. That's what they're doing. Go ahead, right.
Speaker 6 (34:33):
I was gonna say, with this poor three point shooting,
we hand tonight and still score one hundred and five. Boys,
that is.
Speaker 1 (34:42):
Amazing, amazing, You're exactly right, amazing. Score one hundred and
five points, thirty three twos, thirty three of forty one
from two. That's that's an unheard of percentage. I mean,
what is that. That's that's almost that's over eighty percent
from two eighty percent.
Speaker 6 (35:02):
Yep. And I wanted to say something about our defense
on the inside. It seems like we let them back
into its back us into the basket. I don't know
if that what you would do about that or what
you know what I'm talking about.
Speaker 1 (35:23):
No, I think you're right. So I think I think
if you look at it, this is just my take
on it. I think Amary Williams and Carr and Garrison
didn't play tonight, but Amary Williams and Carr are the
guys that let sort of let that happen the most.
But I think if you look at the shot, the
guy ends up getting more often than not, the guy
(35:45):
ends up with a contested shot that rarely goes in right.
So even if it's four feet, I mean, it's one
thing to have a four or five foot or it's
another thing to shoot it over a guy six eleven
with a seven foot five, you know, wingspan, Like, I
think that makes it. So I think that's probably part
of it. Rather than foul them ten feet from the basket,
(36:06):
say all right, you try to shoot over me.
Speaker 6 (36:11):
Yeah, I just hope we're able to stop that. And
Auburn looked awesome.
Speaker 1 (36:17):
Yeah, they're the best team I think in the country
right now. I mean to me, to me, if I
were doing, and I appreciate the call. If I were
doing the top twenty five, I'd go Auburn one, Kansas two.
And then honestly, if you're talking about who they've beaten,
probably US three. Now they'll probably put Tennessee three at
US four. But if you're just talking about who we beaten,
(36:38):
we've beaten Duke. Now they play Tennessee plays well, they
played North Carolina, but Auburn and Duke is this week.
It's interesting about these ACC teams, like take Duke. Duke
plays Auburn, and they've had probably the hardest schedule to
start the season anybody. They've had Kansas, they've had Kentucky, Auburn, Arizona.
(36:58):
But from now on, Billy, they don't play anybody except
North Carolina. Like nobody in the nobody in the ACC
is good except them.
Speaker 2 (37:10):
Yeah, so you think Kentucky might be like.
Speaker 1 (37:12):
Think about yeah, well, I think what's gonna be interesting.
The ACC, you know, has always been considered understandably this
tough test. I don't know if that's true this year.
I think Duke. You could make a strong argument that
Duke is going to play its three hardest games in
the first four weeks. Of the season, US Auburn and Kansas,
(37:33):
you know, because North Carolina I'm not sure how good
they are, and the rest of the ACC I don't
know if anybody's good.
Speaker 2 (37:38):
What about Clemson, Well, I mean, we'll see.
Speaker 1 (37:41):
We'll find out Tuesday. You know, they lost by thirteen
to Boise State, which is a weird loss. But you know,
we might find out Tuesday that they're a lot better
than we'll see. I don't know, we'll find out who's next. Caleb, Caleb,
go ahead, Caleb, Hey.
Speaker 7 (37:57):
Man, Regius call.
Speaker 12 (37:59):
It kind of took the I thought, but I will say,
it's just nice to have like the excitement abround around
the program. This is a game against Georgia State on
Black Friday, and man, was that crowd into it. It
was so nice to see. Obviously, class Peters kind of
gave us something to cheer against, but that was fun.
(38:19):
And then the other thing was I'm just really glad
at how player led this team is. With the duke
thing at halftime, getting the player say what's going on,
and then today with Kirk Crista kind of getting the
guys together and just rallying them around. I just it's
really cool to see and then before I get off here,
(38:39):
I'll just say, can you imagine our previous coach buying
everyone ice cream?
Speaker 1 (38:45):
I could early in his time, I could not have
lightened his time, you know. I mean that, if I'm
being honest. Early in the cal era, yes, he would
have done something like that. By the end, no, and
I appreciate the call. I mean, I always when you
talk about Cow, you have to talk about pre pre
and post COVID Cow, because pre COVID Cow, I really
(39:07):
don't think you could have had many complaints with the
way he dealt with fans. You know, he was a
little obnoxious with the whole basketball Bennie's but I always
kind of thought it was like out of love, and
then I thought post COVID it kind of became out
of anger and frustration. But yeah, early in this time,
I could have. But you know, Mark's hitting all the
(39:29):
right notes and it's fun. I mean tonight, tonight was
an amazing crowd, not just in attendance, which was great,
but also in like like energy and excitement. I mean,
the fans were the fans were into it. I mean
at the bar today, when I got there, I got
there thirty minutes for a pregame show, and I couldn't
(39:50):
believe how many people were there. This was a great,
great atmosphere. If I'm nine, two eight, twenty two eighty seven,
let's do one more and we'll take a break. Who's next, Gatlin? Gatlin?
What's up? Gatlan? Boys?
Speaker 13 (40:03):
First time?
Speaker 10 (40:03):
Long time?
Speaker 1 (40:05):
Who are How old are you? Gatling? Fourteen thirteen in twelve? Close?
Go ahead?
Speaker 13 (40:13):
H I was at the game today. I thought it
was really cool that we had seven players in double
figures and I got Kobe Bryan had a really good
defensive game, even though he didn't get as many three Just.
Speaker 15 (40:27):
Shoot or shoot?
Speaker 13 (40:29):
Have one question. Yeah, if the NCAA tournament started today,
how far do you think we would go?
Speaker 1 (40:37):
Yeah, well, Gatlan, I appreciate the call. I would say
if the tournament started today, If it started today, I
think we'd be a one seed, which is kind of awesome.
And yeah, I mean I think we're I'd have us
as an Elite eight team and then see what the
matchup is in the in the Elite eight. I mean,
(40:57):
I think this team's good now, I mean it's you know,
it's tough because if we're objected, they've only played one
really good team. That's gonna change here in a few weeks,
so we're gonna have a lot better chance to kind
of know and and decide. But but yeah, you know,
I'm gatlin, I'm a I'm a fan of what we've
done so far. So uh, I think you gotta be
(41:20):
you gotta be excited, all right? So what appreciate appreciate
the call? What would you do right here? If you're
if you're a Georgia tech, it's fourth and one.
Speaker 2 (41:26):
Not what Louisville did a couple of weeks ago.
Speaker 1 (41:28):
There's seven seconds to go right, So fourth and one.
You got a decent kicker, but you're probably too far
to kick. So but if you don't get this first down,
you'll give Georgia a chance at a hell mary. So
what do you do?
Speaker 2 (41:42):
You gotta do a hell mary with the concept of
running around for a couple seconds.
Speaker 1 (41:46):
Wait, man, why are you gonna do the hell mary?
You can get ten yards in your in field goal
range and you have a time out.
Speaker 2 (41:52):
Yeah, but then you run a quick pass and you
could not get it, and then then they have the ball.
Speaker 1 (41:57):
Well, but they but they that they'd have to they'd
have to throw a hell mat when you like, so
you're you're throwing the hell Mary. You're not gonna try
to get in field?
Speaker 2 (42:05):
Go right, Yeah, I'm putting zeros on the clock after this.
Speaker 1 (42:08):
Part of it depends on how good your kicker is.
I don't know how good this kid is.
Speaker 2 (42:11):
They're showing highlights of him missing the extra point. It
looks like, yeah, he missed.
Speaker 1 (42:15):
Uh, it looks like he missed an extra point earlier
in the game. But if you think your kicker's good,
like if it was Kentucky in this situation, then I
would I would try to throw a quick pass. You
got you can use the whole field because you have
a time out, and that would leave Georgia with one play.
They would only have a chance to throw a hell Mary,
(42:35):
and you just hope you defend it.
Speaker 2 (42:36):
Well, well, is it brock or is it cutter? Back there?
Speaker 1 (42:40):
Well, I mean I guess it doesn't matters. Yeah, uh yeah.
Speaker 2 (42:44):
I feel a confident. Then if it's cutter, we'll.
Speaker 1 (42:47):
See, all right, Well, we'll let you know when we
come back. Eight five, nine, twenty two eighty seven. I
think they should go for it, but throw a short pass.
We'll find out what they do. Right after this it's
a local toy dealers KSR post game show. Well, they
did what I suggested, which was throw, but then he
got knocked down. The line of scrimmage, dude was open too,
So Georgia will get a chance. We'll find out if
(43:09):
they screwed up. I like that play call, though, that's
what you gotta do. You just can't throw it against
the Georgia guys. Hands all right, So here are your
state finals. Billy, you give me the Billy early pick.
I'll wait and pick it.
Speaker 2 (43:22):
Oh, now I'll be the controversial one.
Speaker 1 (43:23):
Yeah, you do give the early pick. We'll give our
picks this week Friday a title. Sarah and Racelin. Who
you got? Sarah didn't even have a football program eight
years ago.
Speaker 2 (43:33):
I'm going Chad Pennington and Saya to get the victory.
Speaker 1 (43:36):
Here, Dude, this is Mountain versus rich. You take Mountain
every time. Come on. I got a lot of friends
with Sarah connections, but and I love the coaching staff,
but this is the mountain. These are Raceland. These are
boys from the hills.
Speaker 2 (43:54):
Billy, do you think they're scared of all these kids,
all the Rich Sayer kids.
Speaker 1 (44:03):
Saya's good, though, I don't know could go either way.
Owensboro Catholic in Beechwood.
Speaker 2 (44:09):
I gotta go Beachwood. They've been dominant, haven't they. I
mean it's like their eighth straight title or something like
that title game that is so Beechwood.
Speaker 1 (44:17):
I'm thinking Owensborough Catholic. They're good this year. Tillman, Why
am I telling you I'm supposed to be saving mine? Sorry, Tilman,
Franklin County.
Speaker 2 (44:24):
I don't know about this one, so do not be
upset other fan bases. But I'll go Tilman here.
Speaker 1 (44:30):
Christian Academy of Louisville versus Union County. Union County always
known for its wrestling. I don't know if they've even
made the state football before. Maybe they have. But Christian
Academy Louisville, the fighting Earl Joneses. Who you got?
Speaker 2 (44:43):
Yeah, allegiance with Earl Jones here.
Speaker 1 (44:45):
Calne with Ryle Ryle up in Northern Kentucky versus Trinity.
Trinity down year for Trinity, they still might win the
state championship.
Speaker 2 (44:56):
Yeah, yeah, I'll never pick Trinity, So give me Ryle.
Speaker 1 (44:59):
Wow, you don't like Trinity? Why don't you like Trinity?
Speaker 2 (45:03):
M Personal reasons reasons?
Speaker 1 (45:07):
We all wait a minute fumble. All right, So they're
going to overtime in Georgia Cooper and Bowling Green.
Speaker 2 (45:13):
This is tough. I spent a lot of time in
Bowling Green, but I'm going Cooper. I'm actually gonna guarantee
a Cooper win in that game.
Speaker 1 (45:21):
Why are you guaranteeing that Cooper win? They have got
that quarterback that's so good, right, yes, and the best
quarterback in the state.
Speaker 2 (45:27):
And the quarterbacks coach was my former podcast host. His
name was Billy as well.
Speaker 1 (45:32):
Oh well that's why you're excited. Man. Well, good luck
to your Billy. Who's up next?
Speaker 2 (45:37):
All right, let's go to Dave.
Speaker 1 (45:39):
Dave, go ahead, Dave.
Speaker 17 (45:42):
Hey, Matt Jones, time's it going, brother?
Speaker 1 (45:44):
What's going on?
Speaker 17 (45:47):
Oh? Sorry? First time? Long gone?
Speaker 1 (45:51):
Who are.
Speaker 17 (45:54):
All right? So just a couple of points. I thought
Butler really did an awesome job of keeping us in
the game whenever it was early and we was kind
of struggling a little bit. And then also I think
Toby Kobe brea like, even though he wasn't hitting his
shots like, he did a lot of just everything else.
(46:14):
You know, he's playing pretty good defense. He got a
couple of blocks, you know, and then I had one
question on the football side. Okay, all right, so stoops.
If I remember from the morning broadcast earlier in the year,
after the vacated losses from the ten win season, he
(46:36):
lost the all time winning record. Yeah, so I don't know.
Did he overtake that again at.
Speaker 1 (46:45):
The time he did? Yeah, I think because he passed
it last year when we beat Youngstown State, which was
early in the year, and then we went ahead and
won another like five games. Well, you know what, he
may not have. Actually, it might be he might have
to win tomorrow to pass it. Actually I don't know
for sure, but it might literally be tomorrow that he
(47:08):
would do it if he was.
Speaker 17 (47:10):
All right, So that to my point, like you think
or how'd I say this? Do you think that would
be a factor in him coming back or leaving? To me,
I would want to leave as the all time winning
of his coach.
Speaker 1 (47:26):
Now, I yeah, I don't think that's going to have
anything to do with it. You know, everyone tells me,
and I appreciate the call. Everyone tells me that he'll
be back. Everyone that would know thinks he's going to
come back. There are a lot of people that tell
me he's almost more resolute to come back now than
at any point in the last year. I mean, I
(47:50):
thought a month ago he was probably not going to
come back. I don't know what the change is. I
think there's a lot part of why I'm not confident
about tomorrow because I just have heard a lot of
stuff that I I just don't like the vibes, and
I think we will find out a lot over the
next five to six days. And I don't know what's
(48:15):
going to happen. I really don't. I mean, it's what
is it. It's Friday night next Friday, when we are
in probably Boise, Idaho, and we're doing a show. I
think the Kentucky football program could look drastically different than
it does right now. And I think it could be
in many different directions, like many different directions, many different coaches,
(48:42):
many different players. I mean, the whole program could look
ten different ways next Friday. And I don't know what's
going to happen, And I think part of it depends
on what happens tomorrow. So when we do this postgame
show tomorrow, like it, it could go a lot of
different directions based on what happens tomorrow. So if we win,
(49:06):
I plan on doing the postgame show, probably at the
bar if we lose. I'm probably not because I think
those are two different conversations based on whether we win
and lose and how much it's just gonna be. Tomorrow
is a huge, huge day for the future of UK
football all around, not just on the field but everywhere,
(49:28):
and I don't know what's gonna happen, I'll be honest,
be fascinating though. Who's next? Bill Bill? Go ahead? Bill?
Speaker 9 (49:38):
Hey, Matt, I got a question and a comment.
Speaker 1 (49:41):
Please.
Speaker 9 (49:43):
Wasn't there a commentator for ESPN that goes crazy for
the ice cream cones?
Speaker 1 (49:47):
Yeah? That's j Billis. Yeah, Jay Billis. He loves the
ice cream. Yeah.
Speaker 9 (49:53):
Do you think Mark Pope would ever buy if he
heard Jay Billis wanted an ice cream cone? Do you
think you would be that kind of guy? Like I
think he would buy Jay Bill it's an ice cream cone?
Speaker 1 (50:02):
Just to be of course, Yeah, of course he would.
He also, uh, they give it to Jay Billis usually
for the publicity, but yes, he certainly would.
Speaker 4 (50:12):
Okay.
Speaker 9 (50:14):
My comment was, if you ever do decide to go
to Blue Sky, Uh, apparently someone has already squatted over
your handle that you would use on Twitter.
Speaker 1 (50:23):
Yeah I heard that. I heard that. Yeah, I'd probably
pick another one. But you know that's what. That's another
that's another thing somebody. I mean, people tell me it's
so much nicer. Somebody already took the name I would
use over there. So what am I supposed to do?
Speaker 9 (50:35):
I mean, I'm young, I'm young brands over there, so
I mean, you gotta gotta get them when you can.
Speaker 1 (50:42):
Wait a minute, you took young brands blue.
Speaker 9 (50:45):
Sky count Sure, why not?
Speaker 1 (50:50):
Well now you see what? All right?
Speaker 9 (50:53):
I mean, but at least I didn't take your any name.
Speaker 1 (50:56):
Well that's true, but you did the same thing somebody
did to me.
Speaker 9 (51:01):
Well, I mean they got more money than you do.
Speaker 1 (51:02):
I would assume, well fakes a lot, all right. I
appreciate the appreciate the smart by it is that smart? Yeah,
I like that's smart. I feel like like like people
would want to like if they want to hear from
young brands, don't they want to know it's young brands
and not that guy.
Speaker 2 (51:19):
Yeah, that's why they got to pay up so they
get their name. Correct.
Speaker 17 (51:23):
I don't.
Speaker 2 (51:24):
I don't make the rules. We just follow them.
Speaker 1 (51:25):
You know. Well, you know when when it was the Internet.
You weren't. You're not. You know, you're not allowed to
do that with domain names.
Speaker 2 (51:32):
What's that like, if you squat.
Speaker 1 (51:35):
On a domain name, there's a there's a law that
basically can allow someone to get it if you get
bored someday you're a Tampa Bay Bucks fan. Right. The
famous case on this is about Warren Sap. There was
a guy, just a regular guy, who was named Warren Sap,
(51:56):
and he, in the early days of the Internet, bought
warrensap dot com and I'm not kidding you, and then
Warren Sap, the football player, was like, I want warrensap
dot com. He would buy it from this other dude
named Warren. The guy said no, and they went to
court and Warren Sapp argued, look, when the general public
(52:19):
wants to find out about Warren Sap, they don't want
to just see this dude, you know in Minnesota. And
the court ruled for football player Warren Sapp.
Speaker 2 (52:31):
What was the other Warren Sapp like, making content, doing
anything with the website.
Speaker 1 (52:37):
No, he was hoping one day the football player Warren
Sapp would pay Oh, okay, and the and basically they
said it's in the public's interest if warrensap dot com
is the Warren Sap people want to know, not just you.
But that doesn't yet apply to social media.
Speaker 2 (52:56):
So yeah, I don't like there's rel.
Speaker 1 (53:00):
But then you'd want to rule where everybody just buys
up everybody's names.
Speaker 2 (53:03):
They already do it with houses, and they can't buy
a house nowadays because all the bots are buying houses.
Speaker 1 (53:09):
That has nothing to do with what we're talking about houses.
There's an infinite supply of houses, there's not an infinite
supply of domain.
Speaker 2 (53:16):
Names, apples and orders.
Speaker 1 (53:20):
Matt, okay, thank you, Billy four more. Who's next? There's
your legal issue for the day. Jordan, go ahead, Jordan.
Speaker 8 (53:29):
Hey man, how are you?
Speaker 1 (53:31):
I'm good?
Speaker 8 (53:33):
So I want to point out one thing. So I
was blessed to be able to go to the game
the past two games about three hours early to get
myself prepared to present the American flag for the game,
the one you're gonna noticed through the presentation of everything.
Speaker 10 (53:50):
Lam up.
Speaker 8 (53:51):
Butler gets out on the court about three hours early.
There's nobody else out there with him. He's the only
person out there on the court that's a true leader.
That kid is awesome. He's I mean, you can't beat
a leader like that. Like he's out there by himself
just shooting threes. He's got somebody back out there, you know,
(54:12):
passing the ball back to him, shooting the shot, getting
the shots up. Travis Perry is always the next person
to come out about an hour later, and then after
that the rest of the team comes out and just
warms up. I really love that out of a leader.
I just wanted to give a shout out to Lamont
Butler for that, because that's awesome.
Speaker 1 (54:30):
I didn't know that. That's good to know. I appreciate
the call over the years, you know, there, guys, I
go back to the first person I remember that would
do that consistently was Brandon Knight. He was always the
first guy out his year. And it's usually the case
that the first guy out tends to be one of
(54:50):
your hardest workers in your leaders. So it's it's cool
to see that Lamont Butler is that as well. George's scored.
So now Georgia Tech has a chance. They already have
a false start. I mean, like there's zero chance Georgia's
Tech scores here, right, Yeah, they gave up a fourteen
point lead, Like this is gonna be one of the
great you know, losses in Georgia Tech history. But they're
(55:15):
they're they're losing this game. Who's next, Jake, Jake, go ahead, Jake.
Speaker 18 (55:21):
Hey man, he's gonna way home from the game. And
I got seats in the eruption zone first time ever.
Speaker 10 (55:27):
It was great.
Speaker 18 (55:28):
But heard the Louisville caller call in. And actually I
work with Allen and I'm pretty sure his hatred of
UK stems for me this a little bit. So last
year he gave me crap all year leading up to
the UK football game last year. So when we won,
I went into where we worked and I posted signs
(55:50):
all over the building everywhere he went, blured the UK
fight song over the loudspeakers, and gave him crap for
a month. So I gotta get out.
Speaker 1 (56:03):
So you think so you think you made him so
mad that he's gonna blow cigar smoke in his dad's face.
Speaker 18 (56:11):
Oh, most definitely. I give him crap every time we
beat him in the last I've been with working with
him for three or four years now. Oh yeah, every
time we win.
Speaker 1 (56:21):
So you've gotten you've got him a bunch of times,
two times a year. Well, I hope you get him tomorrow.
I'm a I'm a little concerned about it, but I
hope you get him tomorrow. I'm all right, I appreciate that.
Thank you appreciate it. We'll do three more, by the way,
I uh, tomorrow we open at nine at the bar,
but our pregame show starts at eight, so uh, you
(56:44):
can turn it on to listen at eight. I'll talk
a lot more about the football stuff tomorrow that I
was talking about a minute ago during the pregame show.
And then if you come to the bar there, my
my manager will not allow me to let you in.
I was like, can we have people come in? And
she was like no, And I guess, you know, I guess, Billy,
(57:05):
she's a guess.
Speaker 2 (57:05):
In charge, so I have to have got a listener.
Speaker 1 (57:08):
She said no, So we will open the doors at
nine o'clock. We are having serving breakfast though, so it
should be good. Who's next, Landing, Go ahead, Landing?
Speaker 19 (57:20):
Hey, what's up, Matt?
Speaker 1 (57:22):
What's going on?
Speaker 19 (57:25):
I just wanted to tell the fan base to enjoy
the wins. And I want to ask you a question.
How do you think we can keep balancing Kentucky's success
without pinning the issues on cal like the past two
slow starts, everybody saying, oh, Kyle wouldn't have won that game.
You know, how do we as a fan base try
(57:45):
and move past them? Enjoy this time we're in right now.
Speaker 1 (57:48):
It'll happen after this year. I mean, you can't. You know.
That's like saying to people like, it's just not human nature. Okay,
like it's not human nature when there's a rivalry to
not for some time period, compare what is happening with
(58:10):
what was happening. I think after this year that will
stop happening. But I think this is the year that
it's gonna It's natural. Until the tournament is over, this year,
we are gonna be comparing ourselves to Arkansas and vice versa.
It's just gonna happen. I mean, you can say we shouldn't,
and you might even be right, but it's gonna happen.
(58:37):
Appreciate the call. I mean, I know, well, I mean,
go ahead, finish. He's gone, oh yeah, you hang up quick.
I will say that. I mean, I I don't. It's
just gonna be how it is, right, like it's human nature.
He was the coach here. I think after this year
it won't happen. But I think this year there's not
(58:57):
gonna be anything you can do about it. Like the
when when Biden got elected president, the Biden people were,
you know, it's it's better than when Trump was president
and vice versa. And it's gonna happen this year with
the Trump people and the Biden Like, it's gonna happen.
But then people move on, Like how much do people now,
Billy talk about Obama or Bush? Like, you know, like
(59:19):
everybody moves on at some point.
Speaker 2 (59:21):
Yep, you're right, but we're going it's.
Speaker 1 (59:23):
Just gonna be what's gonna happen this year. So that's
the way it is. What's next.
Speaker 2 (59:27):
Georgia Tech scored a touchdown.
Speaker 1 (59:29):
I saw that, but it should have gone for two. Yeah,
when you have gone for two? Yes, were on the road,
go for two? Two calls Stevie, Stevie, go ahead, Stevie.
Speaker 6 (59:42):
Hey.
Speaker 11 (59:42):
Matt could not be happier with the trajectory of this
team heading into twenty twenty five. The non confidence schedule,
that's great, the Big Blue Nation. Uh, we got a
great season ahead of us. And for you, Billy and Ryan,
how that y win case tonight?
Speaker 1 (01:00:01):
Halla, I don't even know who they play. Oh, they
played Douglas, right. I was kinda for you all tonight
because I didn't want to deal with having to get
Ryan to the airport in Boise and fly him home
because I also know how Ryan is. Billy. I was
gonna end up paying for that flight. He can say
he was gonna pay for it, but I was gonna
end up having to pay for it, And so I
(01:00:23):
was kind of pulling for Trinity. Not gonna lie to
you tonight. Yeah, So this this was probably a five
hundred dollars win for me tonight. So go traded me?
All right, let's finish up. Who's next? Luke? Go ahead, Luke.
Speaker 7 (01:00:37):
That just want to say another great win.
Speaker 8 (01:00:41):
Mark Pope is amazing.
Speaker 7 (01:00:43):
That just leaving his credit card there is is just awesome.
I mean, obviously he makes a ton of money, but
still he doesn't have to do that. You're to see
a guy do something like that to me is awesome.
That's a guy that genuinely cares about fans and genuinely
cares about us, and genuinely wants to be here and
wants to win here. And I'm very very excited for that. Obviously,
(01:01:06):
I mean, how could you not be with everything that's
happened so far. I mean, the only slight nitpick I
could possibly have just to be that guy. I don't
necessarily understand why this team doesn't full court press more,
especially with Butler and o Way, because they're so long
and so explosive and so good at just being explosive
(01:01:26):
to the ball on defense. I mean, that would be
my only slight nitpick. But again, when you win by
thirty points, I don't really think you have a whole
lot of room to complain.
Speaker 4 (01:01:35):
And I'm sure I.
Speaker 1 (01:01:37):
Didn't understand what you had. I understand what I didn't
understand what your complaint was. You were saying, what now.
Speaker 7 (01:01:44):
Uh, the why this team doesn't full court press a
little bit more? Again, I guess when you're up by
a million points, that does I think the answer.
Speaker 1 (01:01:53):
Here's the thing about full court press, and Rick Fatino
at Louisville was the one that sort of talked about this.
You full court press went for the most part when
you're not as good as everybody else because it changes
the pace, et cetera. But when you play Patino used
to say, when you play fast, you get the extra
(01:02:15):
possessions that you have with a full court but you
don't give up the layups. And I think that's why
they don't do it. I mean, I think they'll do
it a little bit, but you don't want to do
that if you're if you're Mark Pope, because you don't
want to give up the layups because your half court
defense is good. Like if our half court defense stuck,
I would agree with you. But our half court defense
is pretty good, and we play fast enough that we're
able to get the possessions without pressing. So I think
(01:02:38):
that's why we don't do it.
Speaker 7 (01:02:41):
Yeah, And you know what, he might also be saving
that for for something later in the season. And also,
I think one other reason the game has changed because
big men are better. That's I think that's also part
of it too. So you make a good point there.
Speaker 1 (01:02:55):
That's a great point, right, Well, all five guys on
most teams shaped to call four guys if not five,
can dribble the ball. When we were pressing in the nineties,
that wasn't really true. You could press a lot of
teams and they'd often have two guys in who couldn't dribble,
so really it was like you were putting four dudes
on three. It's not really like that anymore. I mean,
(01:03:16):
look at our team. Amari Williams can bring it up.
Although Billy I don't love when he does it. He
could if he had to in a given situation. Hey,
big win for Kentucky tonight. Georgia Tech just scored. They
got to go for two here before we go off.
I'm gonna call this two point conversion because they should
have done this the first time.
Speaker 2 (01:03:35):
Yeah, this would be to win.
Speaker 1 (01:03:36):
If they had done this the first time, this would
be to win. So if they get this, then they
would have won. If they don't get this, Billy, then
they would have lost. This is the if I were
coach with Georgia Tech have won. Here we go, throws
it nearly picked off, She's nearly picked off and running decision.
(01:03:57):
Georgia really had scouted that play because he was in
the backfield. They knew what was coming. They had two
guys ready to pick that off. So yeah, let's not
Maybe I shouldn't coach, All right, I will see you
tomorrow morning, eight am right here on these same stations.
Our bar opens at nine. If you're coming to the game,
Cats win big day Tomorrow gets the Cards. This is
(01:04:18):
