Speaker 1 (00:06):
NFL Covers Zero with Matt Jones and Drew Franklin is
a production of the NFL and iHeart Podcast all Right.
Episode four of the NFL Cover Zero Podcast Matt Jones
and Drew Franklin. I hope everyone out there is doing

(00:29):
well on this Wednesday. We are getting ready for another
exciting weekend of action after what was a I think
a fun Week one. You know, the NFL started doing
this thing where they pair all the good teams together,
and I think that works. Week one got everybody excited.
There were record TV ratings, or at least I can't

(00:50):
keep up with the TV ratings every week now because
it seems like they're always records. But Drew has me
ready for the second week, and you know, the second
week of doing an NFL podcast with you.

Speaker 2 (01:00):
Yeah, if it'sitting, and like last week, we're in for
a fun time. I mean last week you started with
Thursday Cowboys Eagles through that wild Sunday night finish and
you couldn't ask for a better first week. So let's
keep that moment. I'm going.

Speaker 1 (01:11):
And then my Bears stuck it stuck it up on Monday.
I have to tell you, I don't know why I
get my hopes up, you know that Monday. It started
with such excitement. Caleb Williams drives right down the field.
Then they get a quick three and out stock actually
got two three and out stops come down, look like
they might score again, end up with a field goal.

(01:32):
But I was like, oh, it's good ten nothing, no problem.
And then they didn't score again until the middle of
the fourth quarter. The Bears are cursed. But JJ McCarthy
look nice in that fourth quarter. I was watching the
Manning cast and Randy Moss was. I mean, he wasn't
doing like collins Worth in my collins Worth impressions, but
he was close. He was so excited watching McCarthy.

Speaker 2 (01:53):
Yeah, I saw he was named NFC Offensive Player of
the Week. In that highly end.

Speaker 1 (01:57):
You see really debut yet not.

Speaker 2 (02:00):
A great look for you all there in the fourth
quarter giving up what was it like three straight touchdowns
or something. Just an absolute meltdown there on prog time
for Week one. But as a Bears fan Titans fan,
We're coming you soon. Yeah, we've seen those movies a
couple times.

Speaker 1 (02:14):
I'm used to it. I was expecting it to happen.
I knew that the moment I knew they were gonna
lose was when they I think they went for it
at some point when they were on like the fifteen
on fourth and three and they didn't get it, and
I said, they're gonna lose. It's just it's happening. It's
just a matter of when. And then it occurred. I

(02:36):
was it was cool to see the eighty five Bears back.
You know, that was my childhood, my childhood team. It
was weird to see them be in their sixties and seventies.
That was definitely a moment where I realized I was
older than I sometimes appreciate when I look up and
they're like, oh my, that's what jim McMahon looks like. Now, okay,

(02:58):
So but I still prefer to think of them as
the Super Bowl Shuffle.

Speaker 2 (03:02):
Yeah, watching them in eighty five when you're a kid,
they're these superheroes that are bigger than life, the reunions
that are reminder that life comes for everyone.

Speaker 1 (03:12):
So, uh, Jimmy mahon looks like Jimmy mahon looks like
baby Billy but without the wig like he I was.
I realized I had not seen him in a long time,
and so unfortunately didn't didn't work out for the Bears.
They've got a big game that we'll talk about to
going this week. Also, something important happened, Drew, which is

(03:32):
for the first time in my life, I'm going on
a radio program as an NFL expert. So I get
you know, I get asked to go on program sometimes
to talk about this or that, but I've never been
asked to go on to talk about the NFL. And
genuine generally I don't do a lot of interviews. But

(03:55):
this guy rowe me. He's from Edmonton, Alberta in Canada,
and he's like, listen to podcasts, think it's awesome, would
like to have you on to talk to the NFL
this week And I'm in. So after we finished taping this, Edmonton,
here we come. NFL Expertise headed your way.

Speaker 2 (04:11):
Yeah, I mean, you can't turn down interview opportunities. We're
a new podcast. We got to get it out there.

Speaker 1 (04:16):
However, we can gotta get out there.

Speaker 2 (04:17):
I didn't expect you to say you'd be in Canada
for your first one, but you know, good Good can't
turn him down.

Speaker 1 (04:22):
May you talk a little sit? Yeah, well it's for
Connor McDavid. That's why I'm doing it for all the
Edmonton Oilers past and present. I owe it to my people.
I've been to Edmonton. It was really really cold. When
I went. I nearly got detained at the border. I've
been nearly detained at the Canadian border three times for
a range of offenses, including farting. So you never and that's

(04:46):
not an that's not a lie. So I'm looking forward
to continuing my peace negotiations.

Speaker 2 (04:52):
And we'll save that story for a rainy day. But
I can confirm that that didn't infect.

Speaker 1 (04:58):
Okay, So the as we get into week two, I
thought we'd go over some stuff that Billy's gonna have
some news items to update you on the week. But
overall week one, I think the biggest surprise to me
after Week one was how well the Packers play, just
the absolute dismantling of the Lions, seeing how well Michael

(05:21):
Parsons fits in immediately in week one, and then the
biggest sort of disappointment for me on the other side
would be the play of the Miami Dolphins. We'll do
our rankings here in a minute of the top five
in the bottom three, but the Dolphins were an absolute disaster.
Does Daniel make it out of say Week.

Speaker 2 (05:40):
Six, it's not looking good. I mean, I don't even
think that's a good Colts team that they went in
there and almost got shut out by his comments This
week have not been pleasant. So it was a miserable experience.
And if there's one positive takeaway, it's that it couldn't
be any worse that they're at rock bottom. I just
don't see a lot of hope in them climbing out
of that rock bottom for a while. Hopefully they can

(06:01):
do better than eight points, but you've got drama with
Tyreek to his turnover, and we know what his body's
been through. There's just not a lot of optimism in
Miami right now.

Speaker 1 (06:11):
I like when he said it couldn't be worse, I
think it could. I mean, they still have It's still
one game, and you can say, because there's always a
weird Week one result, so maybe you convince yourself we're
the weird Week one result this year. But it could
be worse. And we talked about on our season preview
that it feels like they that maybe the act is

(06:35):
wearing thin with Mike McDaniel, and so I think it's
gonna happen sooner rather than later. I'll be interested to
see what the reception of the Miami fans are when
they're at home next week. What about the Packers, I mean,
even in hindsight, I went back and looked at some
of the I did something I never do, which is
watching NFL game twice. I went back and watched some
of it, because, yeah, I did. I did a little

(06:55):
film study last night. They were dominant. Jordan loves kind
of doing whatever he wants. Is he an MVP candidate?
He looks good.

Speaker 2 (07:04):
I know there were concerns about how they looked the
season after a good year last year and then the
little thumbish issue. But man, they hit on several explosive plays.
I mean, they were doing really about everything they wanted.
It got to the point they didn't even have to
do much in the fourth quarter of the defense had
done all the work. They were able to just sit
on the ball and run out the clock. But that
looks I mean, we all know what the Eagles are

(07:25):
on the NFC, but the Packers look like they're knocking
on that door too. They look like a serious contender. Well,
I thought it would.

Speaker 1 (07:32):
Be good after Week one to sort of rank our
team's top five in bottom three because this will change
over the course of the year, and so for me
right now at the top five, I think, as long
until they lose, since they're coming off the Super Bowl,
you have to take the Eagles number one. I know
the game with the Cowboys wasn't perfect, but they get
the victory. So I'm gonna to me, you held on

(07:54):
the number one until you lose. I think the Bills
after you beat the Ravens have to be number two,
but then I think it's up in the air. I'm
going to take the Packers third at this point because
of how good they looked laying against the Lions team
that was so good last year. I'm gonna go ahead
and take the Ravens number four. I know they lost,

(08:14):
but still even with the loss, I think they should
have won that game. They were the better team throughout
most of the game. And then number five, I think
you can go a lot of different ways with I'm
guessing I'm going to give it to the Chiefs based
on reputation, but with a worrysome if they lose to
the Eagles this week, you might they will drop out

(08:36):
of the top five for me, but I'll keep the
same basically four of the five teams I would have
had going in, but since the Packers beat the lines,
they replace them for me. How about you.

Speaker 2 (08:48):
Looking at about the same teams but with some different order.
I'll start at the top and agree with you. With
the Eagles super Bowl champs until they're knocked off. I
can't put anyone ahead of them. Thursday Cowboys, you know,
scoring on them early and have a little bit of
shootout in that first half. That was unexpected. But I
don't think that says much about the Eagles, uh, change anything.
There's still one of one for me in the NFL.

(09:09):
But I got a surprise at number two, even though
they lost. I'm putting Baltimore Titans. The watchability are you
putting at? But number two? No, even though they lost,
I'm going Baltimore. Derrick Henry does not really Derek Henry
does not fumble that ball ever. Again, they're in Buffalo.
I know that's all.

Speaker 1 (09:28):
You're gonna pick the tighter the Ravens over the team
they beat.

Speaker 2 (09:31):
I am, but I know that, sir. That's because Derek
can't do that. It's because Derek cam only fumbles once
and he just did it. He doesn't do it again.

Speaker 1 (09:38):
You're not allowed to do that. That's not you're You're
not allowed to do that. I'm I'm throwing the challenge flag.
You cannot have one game one team beats the other
one and you put in my head of him, you can't.

Speaker 2 (09:47):
I just did it. It's pretty cool. I just did it.
And then I'll go Bill style like it. Bill Bills
are my Super Bowl pick. I just know that the
Ravens were kicking their tail until I got a little
fluky at the end and some magic happened in the
Bill Stadium. I think, if if that's a series, the
Ravens win the series. So I've moved the Ravens ahead
of them. And then Bill's three four. I think you
also had this. I like the Packers here or no,

(10:09):
you had Packers three. But regardless, Packers big climb for me.
I didn't have them top five, probably not even top
seven or eight honestly until that game against the Lions,
who I did think holly of so Packers four, and
then I'll agree with you on the Chiefs. That loss
in Brazil. I don't know if that says more about
them or Herbert and the Chargers or a real threat
in that division. Now, I'll give them that one loss.

(10:31):
I still think the Chiefs are a top five team.

Speaker 1 (10:33):
Well it's a little fluky too. You know, Xavier Worthy
gets hurt and that leads into Travis Kelcey. Well, actually,
i'll tell you what. What it leads into is our news.
I don't want to leave our men Billy out because
he went scouring the ap wires. I don't even know
if that exists anymore. You know, they literally used to
have wires where they would actually I don't know if

(10:56):
they were wires. I guess it would come over a wire.
I don't think it was actual wires, but it would
come over a wire and they would say, here are
the news reports. So Billy has been scouring those. He
still uses those. He doesn't use the Internet, which I
think he needs to update, and he's going to have
our news for the week. Billy, what are the news items?

Speaker 3 (11:14):
Well, we can start with Travis Kelcey. On his New
Heights podcast, he took the blame for injuring his teammate
Xavier Worthy in Brazil in Week one. He said, quote,
he wasn't ready for that first drive. He was supposed
to be running his route for depth for Worthy, and
he's got to be better. Worthy suffered a dislocated shoulder
during that first game versus the Charger.

Speaker 1 (11:34):
Yeah, they don't know if he's going to play this week.
I thought it was interesting. Kelsey's been the league thirteen years.
He completely took responsibility. Its basically said this was on me.
I was supposed to be out of the way. I
ran into him. I hurt him. I have to be better.
You got to give him like points for honesty there,
don't you Maybe, I mean might be maybe he's distracted

(11:55):
by the wedding plans, but nevertheless, you can't be running
into your teammates like that.

Speaker 2 (12:00):
No, and he's he's clear, he feels terrible. I mean,
he's the veteran of that locker room. Captain even said
at third teen years, I can't make that mistake. You've
got a young receiver with all the potential in the world.
He's a big part of your offense, and moments into
the game you'd literally run into him because if your
mistake and he's out maybe a week, who knows, we'll
find out, but you can tell that one's eating him up.
And I think that's part of the reason the Chargers

(12:22):
were able to pull that off. Worthy is a big thing,
big part of what the Chiefs are going to do,
and they lost that part of the offense. There's probably
a lot of it scripted going through him, he.

Speaker 1 (12:30):
Said, I think, yeah, I think Kelsey said that he
was a major part of the game plan, almost insinuating
that going to save your Worthy was going to be
essentially a huge part of how they ended up going
against the Chargers. So, you know, I love a guy
who takes responsibility for his actions. There's also a report,

(12:51):
lots of reports now that Taylor Swift is the likely
pick for the Super Bowl. So I did some in
depth research on this all right, So you know, besides
Roger Goodell going with Hoda in saying it, I was
wondering what was making everybody say this. So I'm gonna
give you some facts I learned. Number one, the you know,

(13:13):
she has a deal with Coke and Pepsi has been
the official sponsor of the NFL Super Bowl show for
like fifteen years, but they will not be and so
some people think she was waiting for Pepsi to no
longer be involved in order to do the Super Bowl
halftime show. Now, I am someone who much prefers coke

(13:35):
to pepsi and diet coke and diet pepsi is basically
the difference between you know, gold and rust to me,
So I do every time I go to a restaurant,
somebody will say I'll get a dit coke, and they'll go,
is diet pepsi okay? And you just have to say,
I guess.

Speaker 4 (13:56):
I like.

Speaker 1 (13:56):
However, Taylor Swift has such a big difference about it.
She won't even do the halftime show if she thinks
you're going to be using diet pepsy.

Speaker 2 (14:04):
It's a big twist. I didn't know this in considering
our halftime options with Taylor. I've always thought of I
prefer the taste of coke, but it's always like the
dated brand for me, a picture like the old Santa
Claus and like the old ads where pepsi's the cool
that he'd go with a halftime show for a while.
So I don't know if coke has the swag that
Pepsi did in that spot, but I agree with you

(14:24):
it is the better, the better beverage.

Speaker 1 (14:26):
Well, I think Michael Jackson that was I think it
started with Michael Jackson with it with Pepsi being the
choice of a new generation and now I guess the
generation has finally ended and it's time for for Coke
and Taylor Swift to take over.

Speaker 2 (14:40):
We know that Swifties will pay anything for a ticket.
What is if she were to be the halftime show,
and let's say Travis is on the sideline, like, do
Swifties pump up the super Bowl ticket market? That's already
it's outrageous. But you know, if, if, especially if Travis
is there, you know the Swifties are going to want
to get in.

Speaker 1 (14:57):
They didn't even think about that. You think you think
the Swifties are such big fans that they would actually
buy Super Bowl take it's.

Speaker 2 (15:06):
Just to see it's a Taylor Swift concert in the
United States. Of course they're going to try to be there.
There are people leaving the country going to random places
internationally just to get a look at her in a consert.

Speaker 1 (15:17):
I didn't even think. I didn't even think about that
as an option that that is actually crazy to me.
But you you know, maybe you're right. Okay. The second
thing that people said, this is super Bowl sixty this year,
which I don't I don't know that I'd made that realization.
But at Super Bowl sixty at the on the Travis
Kelcey Jason Kelcey New Heights podcast, Taylor Swift said, of

(15:38):
course that she makes sour not We talked about that
on a previous episode if you're keeping you know, track
with the news on here. But apparently she said in
it that she makes it about sixty percent of her time.

Speaker 2 (15:52):
Who notices that?

Speaker 1 (15:53):
But I don't know, but I saw on this.

Speaker 5 (15:55):
I saw on the Taylor Swift Super Bowl rabbit Hole
that she makes it sixty percent of the time, which
they think was a hint that she was going to
do super Bowl six?

Speaker 1 (16:06):
Do you buy that?

Speaker 2 (16:07):
If this for anyone else, I'd say this is stupid.
But she's big on numbrology what does she call it? Numerology,
and loves these little Easter eggs. She's always leaving little
clues anywhere. So the fact that it's Taylor Swift, even
though I think it's outrageous, someone noticed that she said
sixty percent of the time, I kind of believe she's
dropping another hint there.

Speaker 1 (16:28):
Maybe so to me now I'm officially on By the way,
every year it is about this time of year, apparently
right around week two where they announced the Super Bowl
halftime performer. So just keep it, keep it tuned right
here on NFL cover zero for the latest news. We'll
have it before anybody else. I'm sure what's next? Bill?

Speaker 6 (16:49):
Well?

Speaker 2 (16:49):
Also, she has a new album coming out this month,
So super Bowl announcement, new album, it's really lining.

Speaker 1 (16:55):
Up sixty of her time, supers hour, dough and all
is starting a lot exactly all right? What's next?

Speaker 3 (17:02):
The Bills fan who pushed Lamar Jackson and DeAndre Hopkins
from the crowd the other night is banned indefinitely, not
from just all Bills games from but from all NFL games.
He was ejected shortly after the shove, but now he
will not be back. So it's indefinitely or is it
ever indefinitely? So how does he reapply? No, I'm serious,

(17:27):
Like when I hear when when I when I hear that,
I you know, I'm a logistics person. I mean, I
think it's clear he needs to be banned for some
amount of time. But my logistics question is number one,
how do they make sure he doesn't get in?

Speaker 6 (17:38):
Like?

Speaker 1 (17:38):
What is the way they're gonna make sure he doesn't
get in? What if he has a fake mustache.

Speaker 2 (17:44):
I'm that I'm wondered that I have a friend that's
banned from Toronto Blue Jay games like I do too.

Speaker 1 (17:50):
You might be on this, might be on this podcast.
Actually friend me, I same.

Speaker 2 (17:54):
Thing, But like, how would they know if I slash
my friend went to Toronto Blue Jay they wouldn't know.
How do you how do you pull this off?

Speaker 1 (18:01):
I think you should. I think you gotta go to
the Toronto Blue Jays game just to see I. It
would be hilarious to me because that's been fifteen years,
twelve years whatever since you've done it. If the moment
we walked in, they just came and took you right out,
that would be pretty amazing.

Speaker 2 (18:16):
I'm like ten yards away walking up getting my ticket
out and they're like, nope, out of here, Drew, we
told you.

Speaker 1 (18:22):
And for people wonder why it's cousin Drew Smack John Allard.

Speaker 2 (18:27):
He was talking, he was talking bad about everybody.

Speaker 1 (18:30):
He was walking around. Dave Steve came out and my man,
Drew just gave him a sucker punch. He wasn't allowed it.
The same thing is, let's say he wants to come back.
Let's say in ten years he feels like he served
his time. Does he have to call the NFL and say, man,
I please come to a game? Again? What is what

(18:51):
does he have to do?

Speaker 2 (18:53):
I think it's it's like you got to prove your
good behavior. I don't know how he doesn't do.

Speaker 1 (18:57):
I know he just you just call the toll free
number at the NFL and say, may I please come back?

Speaker 2 (19:03):
If I'm him, I get a buddy and I go
outside and a pick up trash outside Bill's games, And
I'm like, look at me, look at me doing service
for the NFL in the Bills that I made a mistake. Look,
I'm helping people cross the streets get into the game,
and I'm just trying to be the best person.

Speaker 1 (19:19):
If no one noticed, I mean, what if they didn't
realize it was the same guy. It was just that
was phenomenal.

Speaker 2 (19:24):
Well, at least you're being a good person after your mistake.
But I don't know how it's in Definitely, I don't
know what changes. I don't know if they send out
a memo in three years or they've lifted the ban.
But it's not surprising there was a punishment for that guy.

Speaker 1 (19:36):
Well, I think it was the right call. But I'm
skeptical on the you can't come in the stadium bands
for people that are not well known. I feel like
there would be a way he could just grow a
beard and he likely would be able to get in.
But maybe somebody out there knows how they actually enforced
these bands. I'm very curious. Sorry, what's next?

Speaker 3 (19:59):
Well we do another news No, here, we can, let's
do two from why That's.

Speaker 1 (20:04):
Why I went to you was what's next? The news notes?

Speaker 3 (20:07):
Yeah, okay, here I am and Liam Cohen said Wednesday
that Travis Hunter will get more snaps on defense. In
Week two versus Cincinnati, he had six receptions for thirty
three yards and eight targets on offense and only six
snaps on defense, including one tackle that trails. The news
yesterday that the Jaguars are sending Tank Bigsby to the

(20:27):
Philadelphia Eagles for a twenty twenty six fifth and sixth
round pick.

Speaker 1 (20:33):
So it's crazy to me they're going to play more.
I guess you know, he had a decent game, but
he only played eight snaps on defense. I mean, how
many how many snaps do you think that he could
actually get in on defense? And it's clear they want
to use him full time as a wide receiver. Okay,
what's what's the max eight, twelve fifteen? Where do you
top it off?

Speaker 2 (20:53):
Well, we played like forty two of sixty four snaps
on offense. If he's doing that again and he really
is a feature receiver, I just don't know how you
can play him much more on defense. I think you'd
have to pull the offense down a little bit to
give him defense. Toime, I'll say, maybe they get him
up to ten, but it's already a big workload. We've
never seen this done. Also, the one clip I saw

(21:14):
of him, he kind of got beat a little bit
of one of his first plays on defense. Maybe he'll
get his feet under him. I givehi Attle a few
more snaps, but it just seems like he needs to
be an offensive guy. And they'll brought this out a
little bit for the pr.

Speaker 1 (21:26):
We did have an NFL Cover zero listener in West
Virginia text me and say that he did not think
it was that impressive. Why everybody's acting like it's crazy.
Travis Hunter can do it. That he played for his
high school and played every play on both sides, and
he said, quote Matt, while I was tired. I still

(21:48):
was able to do it. Travis Hunter can too. Now.
I don't know if West Virginia high school football and
an NFL game are exactly the same, but Travis Hunter
has done it so far, so I mean why not.

Speaker 2 (22:03):
Yeah, Okay, good for the West Virginia guy. There's a
little difference this week. Travis Hunter will be trying to
guard Let's see their names are Jamar Chase t Higgins,
Joe Brow will be throwing at him. I just think
that's a little bit different than the comparison. But good
for that guy going both ways and being a good player.
You don't know where in West Virginia he was from.
There were really fast people in that part of West Virginia.

(22:26):
You just you're so you've always been so biased against
people from the mountains. All right, what's your next piece
of news, Billy? All Right?

Speaker 3 (22:34):
Is this comes from Tennessee Titans coach Brian Callahan. A
misinterpreting what the NFL rule is for a catch is
I believe the third quarter he did not challenge a
play in what it looked like a Titans receiver got
an elbow down. Afterwards, after the game, he told reporters
that NFL players need an elbow and a foot down
for it to be a catch. He then later corrected

(22:56):
himself and said he misinterpreted the rule, but many believe
that was a missed opportunity for the Titans in a
close game versus the Denver Bronco.

Speaker 1 (23:05):
Really bad look, Brian Coe to not know the rule.
I mean, it's a really bad look. Like I mean,
to be honest with you, I don't I knew the rule.
And this goes back to my every football team needs
a director of common sense on the sideline elbow in all,
at least in college in the NFL has always been

(23:26):
a catch down. It's crazy to me Drew that he
would not have known that that was the rule.

Speaker 2 (23:32):
Yeah, and that's my team. Not only did it hurt
him in a big point in the game, it was
a first and twenty late in the third quarter. It
would have been a first down. But like when he
gave his explanation afterwards, we all just we were kind
of embarrassed. Like already there's questions about Callahan's play calling.
He had a bad clock management spot in that game,
and now he the fact that he actually explained the

(23:53):
rule wrong. It's not that he didn't challenge. He actually
tried to say no, no, no, no, no, I know the rule.
This is the rule. And when he said it, that
wasn't the rule. And he had to come back Monday
and basically confess, yeah, guys, I got that one wrong.

Speaker 1 (24:04):
But don't you just have to lie at that point.

Speaker 2 (24:08):
But it's also just to go.

Speaker 1 (24:10):
It was my strategy. You have to be like that
woman who voted in the AP vote that put South
Florida didn't rank South Florida but raise Florida two spots
and they asked her why and she goes, well, it's
a system, it's a whole formula. I can't really get
into it, which I thought was one of the great
lie answers of all time. I feel like this would

(24:30):
have been a good thing for him to do. Just go.
I mean I thought his I thought his elbow wasn't down.
You got to lie. You can't say you don't know
the rule.

Speaker 2 (24:39):
And he was so direct, he was like, no, you
have to get a foot in bounds with an elbow.
And it's like I'm at home, like I don't think
that's the case, Brian. But it's not just him. You
have a whole booth and a whole staff that tells
you when to challenge not to challenge. How did no
one in a tight with a Titans headset on go, hey, guys,
wait a minute, that's absolutely a catch. We should challenge,
not a whisper of that. And that's the most embarrassing part.

Speaker 1 (25:01):
I think Brian Callahan might be an awful coach. And
I hate to say that about someone, but just you know,
when you watched him last year, there was a lot
of signs and then you could go, well it was
because of Will Levis or whatever. As I sit here
with my UK hat on, but I think I think
there might be. I think that might be another sort
of leader in the coach fired this year. One margin, Billy, Yeah, I.

Speaker 3 (25:24):
Got one more of you'd like. The NFL is finding
Eagles defensive tackle Jalen Carter over fifty seven thousand dollars
for spending on Dak Prescott in Week one. The league
is also saying that the game he was ejected for
will serve as his one game suspension, so he will
be ready to go to play the Kansas City Chiefs
in Week two.

Speaker 1 (25:43):
It feels about right to me. I mean, got a
whole game. It happened right at the beginning, so he
really didn't even get to play. So I feel like
one game is fair. You know, I do an ESPN
show with Herm Edwards. Herman Edwards was like, I'd make
him in game two not play and stand next to
me on the sideline and look at his teammates. And
I was like, that's such an old school, great Herm

(26:05):
Edwards thing to say. But I feel like one game's
probably about the ride mile time drew.

Speaker 2 (26:10):
Yeah, it was a game. He's just walking off to
start the game, first game of the entire NFL season,
prime time. Everyone's watching. He learned his lesson, he got
his embarrassment. What I'm confused about is like, when they
have these meetings about the finds, is there a book
that's like spit fifty seven thousand, Like, how do we
calculate what that wat of spit cost that he should be.

Speaker 1 (26:30):
This is a very specific number, fifty seven thousand, Like
it's a very this is gonna be the exact the
exact amount each piece of spittle is wearing sixteen three
hundred dollars and we're going to get to fifty You
had three and a half spittles.

Speaker 2 (26:45):
So is that just a rule? So if someone were
to spit you know, this weekend's game bits seven thousand
sixty dollars, that's the policy.

Speaker 1 (26:53):
Yeah, that makes sense to me. I think I think
it's perfectly, perfectly understandable. Let's go for a couple other things.
First of all, two different players got cut for bad
performance in Week one. J Moody, the kicker for the
forty nine Ers, a third round draft pick just two
years ago as a kicker, he gets cut. I feel

(27:13):
like every time somebody picks a quarterback in the first
three rounds, they end up being terrible. Lesson is probably
don't ever pick a quarterback until the third day. And
then Xavier Gibson, the putt returner for the Jets who
made the big fumble that led Pittsburgh to being able
to win, he too was cut. Both were kind of
cut because of one major mistake. Forty Niners still won

(27:35):
the game, they still cut him. Do you think one
mistake should be enough to make you go home? Do
you think you like cut somebody in game one to
show we're not we're not dealing with people shenanigans.

Speaker 2 (27:47):
Was Xavier Gibson that was Aaron Glenn sending a message.
He called him out after the game said I'm only
gonna have people here that are here to win. I mean.
He followed through with his words and cut him as
soon as he could. Gibson's also a guy that you
know friends beat out another player for a spot. So
if you're gonna fumble right away, I mean, I guess
you're gonna get what's coming for you. With Moody, you know,

(28:07):
he's been there a couple of years. As you said,
a big draft pick a kicker. I might have given
him another opportunity to prove it was a bad day,
but now forty nine ers weren't having it. He missed
two field goals and that was enough in a game
they still won. As you said, so I was more
surprised by the kicker change than the fumbled kick return
with the Jets.

Speaker 1 (28:27):
Yeah, I was a little surprised by the kicker change,
but I don't think outside of about five kickers, I
feel like the NFL just recycles kickers, but they cut them,
keep them, cut them, keep them. I've always believed that
kickers are so much more important than NFL teams act
like you know, they'll they'll do it for a handful
of right, they'll do it for the you know, justin

(28:50):
Tucker for many years, and there were there are a few,
but then in general a lot of them just they come,
they go, they come, they go, and it's such an
important position, and it is interesting. I used to advocate,
why won't people pick kickers higher because they win or
lose you a couple games every year, And this is
why you don't, because then you pick them in the

(29:11):
third round and two years later they're gone and you
end up just they just sign people off the street.
That's another thing about kicking, is they just signed people
off the street now. We asked on last week's show,
why is the kicking so much better now? And what
I was told by a number of people who would
know is kickers are now allowed to use their own balls.

(29:34):
Did you know this? And so they don't just when
it's time to kick, they take one ball off and
they bring a kicking ball on. And each kicker is
allowed to massage and deep rub his balls before the game,

(29:56):
and his rubbing of his balls can make them a
certain type of happiness so that they will be more
successful in their in their performance, and so these kickers
have learned over the years how to manipulate and rub
their balls in such a way that they will fly
farther in the air. And that is why, according to

(30:16):
folks I talked to, that they go that more made.

Speaker 2 (30:21):
The ballcare is very important, and I'm glad that people
are allowed to take care of their own. Now, a
good example of what you're saying about picking kickers and
signing them. Just last week we're talking about a third
round draft pick who's maybe twenty four years old is
getting cut, where the story of the weekend was a
forty one year old who was coaching his son and
hops on a plane a red eye and goes and

(30:41):
wins the biggest game of the weekend.

Speaker 1 (30:43):
Well so, but that's why the added ten or fifteen
yards is. I guess this rule of self bald massage
growth in it recently has made it to where these
kickers are much more successful, and that's why the kicks
go farther. So thank you to our listeners who actually
gave us an answer to these very very difficult questions.

(31:06):
Now we also it is now time to preview Week two.
It's coming up starts tomorrow night. We're not gonna go
over all the games, but I thought i'd go over
the ones that were maybe the most interesting or biggest storylines.
But before we do that, you and I wanted to
have a guest, right. We've talked about for a while

(31:28):
that we we want to have guests on this show.
We don't want to be the only ones talking. But
rather than start with a football expert, we saw love
occur last Sunday. We saw two people, bounded by the
holy spirit of Cleveland Brown's football, join their lives together.
You may have seen the video of Brown Spider and

(31:50):
First Lady saying their vows in a Cleveland Brown's tailgate
parking lot. And so I said to Billy, Billy, you
are going to go get us First Lady in brown Spider.
And if you're a listen, last week Billy said, I
don't have access to DM people on Twitter because I

(32:11):
don't I'm not verified. Billy. Nevertheless, you were able to
make it happen. How did you do that?

Speaker 3 (32:18):
Yeah, I just sent out a normal tweet asking brown
Spider in the First Lady to follow me back so
that I could DM them and set things up. And
now I'm just waiting on my Tate Ratledge jersey.

Speaker 2 (32:31):
That's right.

Speaker 1 (32:32):
Do you want me to follow through with that?

Speaker 2 (32:34):
Oh?

Speaker 3 (32:35):
I mean if you're a man of your word.

Speaker 1 (32:37):
Okay, all right, I will go to the NFL store
and look up and see if you can even purchase
a Tate Ratleige jersey. But if they, if I can,
when I come back from South Africa, you Billy are
Sports will have a tape Ratledge the Tate line jersey.
Well good, I'm glad that's what you want. But anyway,
without further ado, let's talk. This was we taped this

(33:00):
earlier our interview with our two famous Cleveland Browns Faith Okay, Drew,
it's that time. Is now time to bring on our

(33:22):
first ever live guest to open up and kick off
our guests here on NFL cover zero. And I think
we have the right one, don't you.

Speaker 2 (33:29):
Exactly. I can't think of a better first guest, two
first guests than the two we have today.

Speaker 1 (33:33):
That's exactly right. So we're seeing we saw a lot
of you saw a video from week one of two
people who got married in a parking lot for the
Bengals Browns game. It was Brown Spider and First Lady,
two famous Cleveland Browns fans and they have now joined
us here on NFL Cover zero. Congrats to the new couple.

Speaker 7 (33:55):
Thank you, thanks for having us, Thank you so much.

Speaker 1 (33:58):
Of course. So let's just start with the story. You
guys met.

Speaker 8 (34:03):
I think I heard you met a few years ago
at a Kansas City Chiefs Brown's game and Brown Spider
tell me you didn't notice each other then, But what
made you start to noticing first lady when you were
ready to make your moves?

Speaker 7 (34:17):
Oh? Well, you know so we didn't meet in Kansas City.
In January twenty twenty one, twenty twenty season, after the
Browns lost to the Chiefs, we all went to the
Browns Beckers Establishment and then a few of us said, hey,
let's go out to a club you've drove in and
you know, I say, yeah, we can ride in my car,

(34:39):
and the first lady was one of the people in
the car. We spent several hours together as a group
of people, but I don't remember didn't remember her in particular.
He didn't remember me in particular. But my car is
a little weird, so he remember that later when seeing
each other on social media.

Speaker 1 (34:59):
It's not just weird. What does he have in his
car for lady. I think people need to know.

Speaker 6 (35:06):
It is first office car. Itself is spider Man blue,
and there are blue Spider Man hubcats. There were a
bunch of Spider Man and random stuffing for anybody with grandchildren.
In the back window, there was a Spider Man hanging

(35:26):
from the rear view mirror. So when I've seen him
on social media recording a video in his car, I
immediately remembered the car and said, oh, this is that.

Speaker 7 (35:38):
This is that strange.

Speaker 6 (35:39):
Guy that dropped us. So we all went to the
club together after the Kansas City game and sent him
a friend request. And if you go back through both
of our timelines, you'll see a couple of Twitter kind
of beefs back and forth between the two of us
on youth that we had that didn't quite line up.

Speaker 1 (35:59):
But well you start, you started beefing. What were you
beefing about?

Speaker 6 (36:06):
Oh, not the things. You know how Twitter is and
people are strong in their beliefs, and we both were
walking a path of self discovery after relationships and family changes,
and we both had very strong opinions.

Speaker 7 (36:23):
About things that we believe.

Speaker 6 (36:25):
And I could just recall a couple of times I've
made some posts from a female perspective, and he had
a male perspective that was a little different than mine.
And we had a little back and forth, and I
won't say what I thought about him at the time,
but it all worked out.

Speaker 2 (36:45):
We're glad it worked out. But before we learn more
about this relationship, I need even know about the spider obsession.
I thought it was just a nickname. But you're telling
me stuffed animals in the car, the cars decorated like it,
Brown Spider, How did you even get this spider obsession
you have?

Speaker 7 (37:02):
Well, I'm an old guy. So when I was a kid,
I'd come home every day and watch Spider Man from
the you know, Spider Man, Spider Man does whatever a
spider candet, that old cartoon that's from nineteen sixty seven.
And I've been kind of obsessed since. You know, I
have dreamed sometimes of being Spider Man and doing Spider

(37:24):
Man things.

Speaker 1 (37:25):
And so.

Speaker 7 (37:27):
Back in twenty sixteen, you know, first Lady talked about
self discovery stuff. I had gone through a significant separation.
All my kids had grown up, and so I didn't
have anyone to sort of run behind and be a
caretaker for, and I had forgotten who I was, And
one of the things that came back into my life

(37:48):
was I ended up having a bunch of Spider Man
T shirts that I collected and I wore them to
work all the time. Because I'm a psychiatric nerd, they
encourage you to wear regular clothing. So all the patients
called me Spider Man, and you know that's kind of
you know, the long and short of that.

Speaker 1 (38:09):
So you got what So you became a spoder Man
obsessed person and then you ended up meeting your first lady.
So you guys, you fail for each other. Now you're
both Cleveland brown Fans. Is that like it feels like
it's a tough distance, is it?

Speaker 7 (38:27):
Well, you learned to just just like I was driving
down the street the other day and I saw a
doll with three legs and he was barking at everything,
so he wasn't worried about not having four legs. So
you get used to it being a Browns fan. You
get used to the ups and downs, and you learn

(38:47):
to embrace the community and the community of suffering, but
broader than that, the community of the tailgates and the
away games and running into the same people and you know,
getting to know people and that's kind of how that's
how we met. You know, since twenty nineteen, we every
year was three four or five different games that we

(39:09):
were at at the same time, not knowing each other
until we really got to know each other at twenty
twenty three.

Speaker 2 (39:16):
So let's talk about this.

Speaker 7 (39:17):
You know, it's.

Speaker 6 (39:19):
It's easy to be a fan of a team, a
fan of a person when everything is going right. Being
a Brown fan you build a lot of resiliency. You
learn how to sign the silver lining and things that
aren't quite always perfect. You learn how to take the
blows and life as life deals them out to you.

(39:43):
So it's helped build a character that's made us a
perfect couple.

Speaker 2 (39:49):
Let's talk about this. Tell Gay, we all saw the
one last Sunday. I believe they said it was in
the Muni lot. Were you all todd to not first lady,
I'll ask you. Was it just an automatic decision we're
doing it before a Browns game, or did you consider
other venues, maybe doing it at a church, or did
you all just oh, this was the place you had
to do it outside the stadium.

Speaker 6 (40:10):
Well, the Brown Spider proposed on Father's Day, So between
Father's Day and the opening game is eighty six days,
and we probably waited about thirty days before we made
our very first plan. And when we went back and
watched the proposal video because one of our family members

(40:32):
recorded it, he actually said after he proposed, hah, we're
going to get married in the movie lot and in
this kind of snowball from there, you know, we both
every day girl.

Speaker 5 (40:44):
Wants first lady, Isn't that what every girl wants is
to get married in the movie line?

Speaker 6 (40:50):
It should be what every girl wants that she doesn't.
If a man is willing to marry you, you get
married where he says, you're getting married and he says,
that's right up my alley.

Speaker 1 (41:07):
So I watched the wedding. People are all in Brown's gear.
You guys, did you just invite any one that was
at a tailgate that wanted to come?

Speaker 7 (41:19):
Well, the way the Communi lot is set up, it's iconic,
is huge, and so we had to do some planning.
Its first come, first served. So long story short, I
had to buy fourteen parking spaces and I had gone
down there a few times to pre plan how this

(41:39):
was going to go. So we basically had about one
hundred pairs set up for audience and velvet rope around that.
We had a stage that was eight by twenty four
and two feet high so that we were lifted up
so that people who are standing around watching could actually
see us as well. We had the backdrop there. So thinking,

(42:02):
like you said, it's snowballed and once you get an idea,
well we need to do is and we need to
do that. But so that's not how that went.

Speaker 6 (42:10):
Yeah, we had two different versions of the even Evite,
and one version was for VIP access and we provided
leander for everybody that was in the one hundred seats
and separate from that, everybody in the Mooney Lot was
invited if you could get down to that side of
the Mooney Lot to stand around. That's why Charles played

(42:33):
for the stage to lift us up. But we've provided
one hundred seats for our very special family friends Twitter
folks that season ticket members that had never been to
the Mooney Lot were able to come down and.

Speaker 7 (42:49):
To watch them.

Speaker 6 (42:49):
We wanted everybody that's the Browns fan that was in
the Mooney Lot, die hard fans, we wanted them all
to be able to be a part of our special
day because they're a part of our everyday lives from
September through January.

Speaker 2 (43:04):
Did you do a first dance? And what was the
first dance song?

Speaker 7 (43:09):
Well, so it rained.

Speaker 4 (43:12):
The weather man said it was going to be clear,
and it rained.

Speaker 7 (43:17):
Well, we went into the lot at five.

Speaker 4 (43:18):
Am and it started raining five thirty and it rained
up until and a little behind the time we were
supposed to start at nine thirty.

Speaker 7 (43:29):
So we weren't able to get the sounds set up
because you know, electronics and all that, and we were
running around doing that, So we didn't do a first dance.
We actually didn't have music. I sung and rapped and
sort of hyped the crowd from the microphone. I wasn't
able to get the microphone set up.

Speaker 1 (43:47):
Okay, well wait, hang on, hang on, hey on, brown Spider,
you sung and you rapped? What did you sing and rap?
I need to know?

Speaker 7 (43:56):
Oh it was, Well, let's see, I don't know what
you heard about me?

Speaker 2 (44:01):
And then.

Speaker 7 (44:03):
Yes, I like it the dollar out of me. That's
something I just off the top of my head. Two
years ago, a friend of mine asked me to say
some mc rhyme. Now, I asked the crowd, did anyone
know the words to here? Comes the ride when it
was her time to come out. I mean I just
had to add left because we didn't have the music.

Speaker 1 (44:27):
Well, let me do we just got a second. Let
me ask you this. Give me both of you. Give
me your favorite Browns player in history.

Speaker 7 (44:34):
Oh, I'm gonna go with Bernie Man. Bernie co Star
represents everything it means to be a Brown f fan.
He chose us, he manipulated the supplemental draft of play
in Cleveland, and uh he fell short so many times,
the three losses an AFC Championship game, and he's still

(44:56):
a local hero. He's battling some health issues right now
and he cannot be more positive in his outlooks. So
we just love Bernie co Star death here in Cleveland.
You know, there are so so many brown players that
we love over the years, but Bernie's got to be
number one in a hard type of thing.

Speaker 6 (45:17):
First, Lady, I would second that this is always a
hard question for me because I have a uh, depending
on the decade, right, I'm going to go with a
little a new school player. Miles Garrett has always been
one of my absolute favorite players. He's just such a

(45:40):
humble guy, my guy loving, dinosaur loving spider Man. I
love that he loves dinosaurs. He's just a down to
earth person. I have had a chance to meet him
in person one time, and I was I'm not a
starstruck person, but I was absolutely star struck by Miles
Sarett what he has been able to.

Speaker 1 (45:59):
Do with his fact.

Speaker 6 (46:00):
He had a great We didn't win on Sunday, but
he had a great game. He got after Joe Burrow.
I can't wait to see the Joe Burrow's tombstone in
Miles Garrett's front yard when Halloween rolls around. So I'm
gonna go with Miles Garrett for this one.

Speaker 1 (46:18):
Well, I hope you guys have a very successful marriage.
Where's the honeymoon? London?

Speaker 7 (46:24):
The Brown's playing London October? Ill, guess I think it is.
So we're going to London. We're flying out October first,
and we're gonna kick it around London and be some
weird food.

Speaker 1 (46:37):
And it's not that weird different there. You'll love it.
It's not yet different Brown Spider. First, lady, very cool.
You ended up on ESPN. Now you're on the NFL
Covers zero podcast. We appreciate your time.

Speaker 7 (46:51):
Thank you so much.

Speaker 6 (46:53):
We appreciate you having us. Thank you anytime you want
us to come back us appearance.

Speaker 4 (46:59):
Thank you.

Speaker 1 (47:13):
Well, that's a beautiful story, I have to say. It
really is a beautiful story of love finding its way
in the Cleveland Browns parking lot. What do you think
about the Spider Man car. I kind of liked his
explanation of it. He goes, you know what, things work
great in my life at the time I turned to
Spider Man.

Speaker 2 (47:30):
You know, first upon a car full of spider stuff
that's different. But then his explanation of I kind of
found my inner child. And he mentioned being a nurse
when they encourage him to dress up like that. So
I love that he's all in on the Spider gig
and has made it a bit of his persona.

Speaker 1 (47:45):
If you were to take a superhero and turn your
car into an homage of one of them, which one
do you think you would do?

Speaker 2 (47:55):
My favorite superhero are ninja turtles superheroes because I was
a big ninja turtle guy growing up. Maybe I could
have some kind of pizza car I had like a
pizza shooter. If I could get some kind of Ninja
turtle pizza setup, I would really be killing it.

Speaker 1 (48:11):
I like that question. Are Ninja turtles superheroes?

Speaker 6 (48:15):
They are?

Speaker 2 (48:15):
I wouldn't say yes, where not the Marvel Verse that's
taken over the world, but that's what I grew up on.

Speaker 1 (48:22):
I'm gonna say I've gone to the tape. I'm gonna
say that teenage mutant Ninja turtles are superheroes. And I
think if there's one thing women would like, it is
someone who drives around in a teenage mutant Ninja turtle car.

Speaker 2 (48:35):
Calabunga, dude. I might even do this anyway this in
the podcast a bit. I might dress up my Toyota
Hoglander to be the Ninja turtle car.

Speaker 1 (48:43):
There was a time that the only four artists in
history I could name were Leonardo, michel Angelo, Rafael, and
Donna Tello. And I actually think Rafael was the big
winner there, because I think if not for the Mutant
Ninja Turtles, I don't think anybody would remember the art
of Raffael. You know, Leonardo da Vinci, he had his
own people know him, Michael Angelo, you know, even Donna Tello.

(49:08):
People might Persachi sort of took his name later, but
I think Raffael owes a lot of his current When
I go to Europe and I see a Rafael painting,
I'm like, cow obuma, dude, there you go. So I
think he owes a lot of thanks to the turtles.

Speaker 2 (49:23):
Yeah, there was also a time when I can only
name four artists because of the turtles, and it's right
now currently there's still the only four I can name.

Speaker 1 (49:31):
You can't wait a minute, Come on, you can't name
any other famous artist. Let's see, can you get can
you give me? Can you give me three?

Speaker 7 (49:40):
Give me?

Speaker 1 (49:40):
Give me three more famous Drew Franklin endorsed artist.

Speaker 2 (49:44):
The fifth Ninja Turtle would have been Pablo or Picasso,
because he's an artist, right, that's true.

Speaker 1 (49:49):
Picasso should have been well, Pablo would have been.

Speaker 2 (49:51):
A good name, been a great turtle. Maybe they can
He wasn't.

Speaker 1 (49:54):
He wasn't from the Renaissance. They probably left him out
for that reason. But who else? Can you do? Two more? Uh?

Speaker 2 (50:00):
Banksy Banks? He count big Banks fan anto turtle. He
was younger than the turtles, though unfortunately he.

Speaker 1 (50:12):
Does live in the sewer.

Speaker 2 (50:13):
Though yeah, I'm onto something here.

Speaker 1 (50:16):
Well, actually I don't know if he lives in the sewer.
He paints in the sewer. That's be rude to say
he lives there anyone else I'm giving you You've got six.
That's the guy that does the tomato can.

Speaker 2 (50:26):
Do you know that's that's Warhol, Andy Warhol.

Speaker 1 (50:30):
I am look at that.

Speaker 2 (50:32):
Dona Tello is still the best, still the best.

Speaker 1 (50:35):
Very prasive. Saw the door, Dolly. That would be the
next one you could have put in. He did a
lot of thing.

Speaker 2 (50:41):
Bob Ross, Yes, I count.

Speaker 1 (50:47):
I'm gonna take I'll take Bob Ross. All right, let's
talk about some games this week. We'll start Thursday night.
Commanders and Packers, uh By.

Speaker 2 (50:56):
Definitely, especially uh Packers with all their news recently and
how good they looked last week. Commanders looked good last week.
I I know they played the Giants, but outside of
the Eagles, these are two teams to watch the NFC.
We're gonna be in Week two standalone game on prime time.
I'm really looking forward to it.

Speaker 1 (51:12):
Who you like? Well, first of all, who would you
rather have? Long term? I say, tomorrow you get to
start a franchise. I will give you either Jaden Daniels
or Jordan.

Speaker 2 (51:23):
Love Who you take it today? Jadon Daniels because last
season was so awesome, but as this year goes on
Jordan Love could pass him. But right now that rookie
season Jayden Daniels had was pretty amazing. And then last
week again the Giants, but he look good doing it again.
So I lean Daniels, but I am very high on
Jordan Love too. These are these guys in the future.

Speaker 1 (51:46):
Your upside is with Jaden Daniels because he looks like
he could be amazing. But there's still a possibility that
you could have a regression like c. J. Stroud. I mean,
his game last week wasn't you know, it wasn't like crazy.
I tend to say, don't put too much stock in
week one. Going into the season, I would have said
Jade and Daniels. So I'm still gonna say Jade and Daniels.

(52:09):
But Jordan Love, I mean, if he gets if he's
ninety percent of what he was last Sunday, I think
you could make the argument that he is. Plus you
still have Jaden Daniels on a rookie deal, and I
think that makes a big impact. However, this week, where
is the game? Said Lambo, Yeah, then I got to
take I think I'm about to take Jordan Love at

(52:30):
home short week. That's a big thing to me. When
you the home team on Thursday Night has a huge advantage.
So I'm going to take Jordan Love and the Packers.

Speaker 2 (52:39):
I like the Packers here too. Heck, I might have
even taken him if the Commanders were home. Even though
I'm high on the Commanders, I still think the Packers
are going to be elite this season. Probably get a
little more Michael Parson. I noticed you mentioned he knows
about eighty percent of the playbook and he's still trying
to play the new guy role. But Michael Parson is

(52:59):
still Michael Parson. I think they're gonna win Thursday.

Speaker 1 (53:01):
Night Eagles Chiefs. I'm surprised this game Sunday four thirty.
That's like when I was a kid, didn't they You know,
eight o'clock has been getting kind of the best games
for a while. Now you get a Sunday four to
thirty Super Bowl rematch in Kansas City. I think the
environment's going to be unbelievable. Game's also important though for
Kansas City after losing in Week one. Historically, when you

(53:25):
have a Super Bowl rematch, I think the last seven
or eight times the team that lost in the Super
Bowl has won like five of the last seven. So
do you like the Chiefs at home to beat the
Eagles juggernaut?

Speaker 2 (53:39):
Even though the Eagles were my number one power ring
team just earlier in this show. I think the Chiefs
get them at home. We're gonna get a laser focused
Travis Kelce because of his big goof last week. Chiefs
can't go oh to two. They don't even know what
that means in Kansas City, so it's a kind of
a must win game for them. Already getting back to
Arrowhead for the first game of the year, I still
think they're lost in Brazil says more about the Chargers

(54:01):
being good than it does the Chiefs go in the
other direction. So I will say the Chiefs in a
very close one, get the Eagles back in this game.

Speaker 1 (54:09):
The history of teams that go oh and too making
the playoffs is not good. I mean it's I don't
know what the number is, but I feel like we
say it every year on ESPN. It's a very small
number of teams that go oh to two and end
up making the playoffs. I think the Chiefs are gonna
be one of them, though I think they're gonna lose
this week. I think there's gonna be a come to
Jesus moment. The probably is you're probably not gonna have
Xavior Worthy. You're not gonna have a sheet Rice for

(54:32):
six weeks. So they still I mean, they're kind of
now back to where they were last year without having
a receiver. I think by the end of the year
that won't be as big of an issue, but it
is an issue right now. So I'm going to take
the Eagles to win. I would love to go to
that game, though, I think it'll be I mean that
app we've been to Chiefs games. That atmosphere will be amazing.
I'm sure they're gonna they're gonna want revenge, but I

(54:56):
think the Eagles take the victory. My Bears go to
Detroit to play the Lions in a game where the
loser is oh win two and probably two games back
in the division. Dan Campbell says this is a must win.
We cannot lose this game. Will they find a way
to pull it out?

Speaker 2 (55:14):
I think so. Kind of like the Chiefs, this is
one they really need to win. Your Bears. I hate
to say it with you looking at me on this screen,
but I don't know if the Caleb Williams experiment. It's
going to be what you all want it to be.

Speaker 1 (55:28):
So I, oh, you're you're already out on Caleb Williams.

Speaker 2 (55:31):
I was never really all the way in. I was
still like, okay, we'll give him some time. I'll give
him a little more time. But with the way the
Lions lost last week and how dialed in, they will
be like the Chiefs and I go down. I want
to I like Detroit here, I'm not out.

Speaker 1 (55:46):
But he's got to make those throws right like I
mean when you when you go back and look, he
had throws that if he makes them, the Bears win
the game. There was a third down where he had
a guy open over the middle, just overshot him. If
he makes it, the Bears probably get a field at
least a field goal. That was I think the play
right before the guy missed the field goal to go

(56:07):
up I guess to go up fourteen. So I think
the lines win. I thought that was a really poor
effort from Detroit with the new coordinators, but I'll give
them the benefit of the doubt until week two. But
the Bears win this game, then I do think you
have to go look at Dan Campbell and say, wait
a minute. Was it you or was it Ben Johnson

(56:27):
and Aaron Glenn?

Speaker 2 (56:29):
No doubt they looked so bad last week. That was
one of the best offenses a year ago. Couldn't get
anything done. If they can't beat the Bears, you're at home.
I think it's a horrible look for Dan Campbell and
the team that does lose. This talk about going down
oh and two, you're oh and two in your division
in this game. The teams opened up last week playing
division opponents.

Speaker 1 (56:49):
The AFCs has two games against each other. The Buffalo
Bills are at the Jets. New England is at Miami.
All right, ohen one, that's both teams in these games
in division. Let's start with New England and Miami. Is
this a loser is out in week two?

Speaker 2 (57:09):
Oh yeah?

Speaker 7 (57:09):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (57:10):
Especially if it's Miami. You're at home. If it looks
anything like the game did last week at Indy, If
you're not scoring points with two in that offense, I
think it's into the road, certainly for the Miami in
this year. And the McDaniel conversation is that seat as
hot as it can get if you can't play better
at home against the Patriots after they didn't look too
great last week.

Speaker 1 (57:32):
I thought Drake May, though looked bad last week. I
mean Drake May had a lot of opportunities for place
he couldn't make. There were people who were saying poor
man's Josh Allen, I mean, really poor mate, like being
a different way, different tax bracket for him. I think
the Patriots win. But this to me is a whoever

(57:54):
loses this game, I'm scratching out of the playoff hun
This is really the only one. But because they both
looked so inapt last week in games that they I
think they should have won. If you lose again, especially
if you lose an AFT, I'm scratching you off.

Speaker 3 (58:09):
Now.

Speaker 1 (58:10):
Buffalo is at the Jets. I thought the Jets looked
as good in defeat as you could. To be honest
with you, any chance they can pull off the upset
at home against Buffalo, a team I think they've only
beaten once in like the last six years.

Speaker 2 (58:22):
I don't have the upset, but I have them covering
the touchdown spread and making this a game. I think
you're gonna get a little bit of a Bills hangover,
a little bit of it's the Jets. And then the
Jets got that little taste of success last week and
got it ripped away. That was one of the best
offenses all weekend. They just couldn't get a win out
of it. I think the Jets are going to be
better than people expect and that this one will come

(58:43):
down to the wire. The Bills will still win, but
I think we finally have a competitive Jets Bills game
for the first time in a while.

Speaker 1 (58:48):
Okay, see, I couldn't disagree with you more on what
it's going to be. What's the spread because.

Speaker 2 (58:52):
My seven and a half and then where you look
the touchdown.

Speaker 1 (58:56):
I'm definitely teasing it, but I probably will load up
on the Bills. I think they destroy it. I think
this is one of those where the Jets had a
great game, but people now feel too good about it.
I've been part of the Justin Fields experience, right.

Speaker 2 (59:14):
Even though I'm calling for a close game here, I
know I'm kind of bought into the field type in
week one, and I fully acknowledge that I will not
be surprised if on Sunday's episode we're talking about the
Bills winning forty two to six. But I'm gonna give
the Jets a week.

Speaker 1 (59:30):
By the way Sunday's episode. I will be in Johannesburg,
South Africa, which is really good for NFL games. They
have a really good package down there. I'm being able
to watch. But for people who don't know, maybe new
to this podcast or US, I am going to South
Africa for two and a half weeks. I've talked with

(59:51):
folks around the NFL. They say I can watch the
games down there. They gave me like this whole code
and system. But we'll see. I'm gonna go to sports
bars throughout Johannesburg. If I can't find them, I will
watch them here on my ped.

Speaker 2 (01:00:06):
Well, we'll be ready to on the end here in
the studio on Lexington, we'll be ready to figure this out.
However it's gonna run, We'll get through it.

Speaker 1 (01:00:13):
Yeah, I'm excited. You know how many how many podcasts
do you think have ever been done from South Africa
about the NFL? Ever before you think any?

Speaker 2 (01:00:23):
If they have, they didn't make it to my radar,
certainly not. I don't think it's through on the sports charts. Yes,
and by the way, thank you to folks. We got
all the way up to number two. Stupid Pablo Torre
had to break a big story and stay number one.
But we got all the way up to number two
on the charts, and that's because of.

Speaker 1 (01:00:41):
All you all and our first our last episode was
in the top one hundred on episodes, which I think
is a really good sign. So please tell your friends
about it, and tell and rate and subscribe.

Speaker 2 (01:00:51):
Now, if Billy could have broken that Kawhi Leonard scoop,
we would have been number one. You could have done it.

Speaker 1 (01:00:55):
Billy Billy had it, But Billy Billy had Billy's scoop
was about Tate Ratleedge, and we didn't want to make
you mad, so we didn't do it. Three games with
teams that are one and oh, the winner will go
to two and oh and probably be a little bit
of a surprise. You just quickly tell me which one's
gonna win. Broncos Colts, who goes to two and oh? Broncos.

Speaker 2 (01:01:17):
The Colts had a lot of fun last week, But
I just can't believe in Daniel Jones until I've seen
it a few more times.

Speaker 1 (01:01:23):
I'm gonna say the game is in Indianapolis, though I'm
gonna say Colts. I'm gonna say Danny Dimes goes to
two and oh. They're a train and you need to
get on at Jaguars are at Cincy Cincinnati Bengals home opener.
What you got.

Speaker 2 (01:01:39):
Bengals might have been my disappointment of the week last
week that I want. They have like one hundred and
forty yards total offense. One hundred and eighty something. Crazy
for that offense. They have to bounce back this week.
I think it'll be a big Burrough Chase game. Bengals.

Speaker 1 (01:01:51):
Yeah, give me the bounce back. Jaguars look too good,
Cincinnati looked too bad. The Bengals get the win, and
unlike most years where they go in two, in my opinion,
they go to and Oh and then the Chargers and
the Raiders a crazy game for first place in the
a FC West. The Raiders looked really good. For the Chargers,
they won't have had a home game yet, I don't
think it matters. Sometimes it's worse for them at home.

(01:02:13):
So who you got? This one's tough for me. It's
almost a coin flip.

Speaker 2 (01:02:18):
I bet against the Raiders last week in New England.
They proved me wrong real quick. But I'm pretty high
on the Chargers, and not just because of that game
in Brazil. I thought ailly of them for the season began.
Then Herbert proved proved to be great in that game
when he have like three hundred yards three touchdowns against
the Chiefs. I'll go Chargers here, but tip of the
cap for the Raiders. They're gonna be better than I expected.

Speaker 1 (01:02:40):
Yeah, I'm gonna go Chargers as well. Do you think
justin Herbert, do you think that if he walked down
the street in New York City anyone would stop him?

Speaker 2 (01:02:55):
Unlikely? I saw, I saw he's got a new model girlfriend.
Is she walking with him?

Speaker 1 (01:03:00):
Maybe?

Speaker 2 (01:03:01):
Maybe if she's there, but Herbert alone?

Speaker 1 (01:03:02):
The model? Who's the model girlfriend?

Speaker 2 (01:03:05):
Massive beer?

Speaker 1 (01:03:06):
Her Who's that?

Speaker 2 (01:03:08):
I don't know? But the internet model.

Speaker 1 (01:03:12):
I feel like I've heard her.

Speaker 2 (01:03:13):
She's like, yeah, she's I think she sings her singing
at one point, has a song, maybe in a.

Speaker 1 (01:03:18):
Movie as a career, or like you've heard her singing
at her church. I believe she broke in as a singer.
But then you know she's everything now regardless she's not ugly,
she's everything. I've never heard of her. How can she
be everything? Heard brtil this week and then I saw
her everything or she's nothing?

Speaker 2 (01:03:39):
I just know how the Internet reacted to Herbert taking
her out to eat after he beat the Chiefs. So
it seems like the new it couple in La after
he took down my homes?

Speaker 1 (01:03:48):
How can they be think? I don't know who she is?
What does she told me what she does?

Speaker 2 (01:03:52):
No, I'm telling you I don't know either. But it's
a big deal we need to learn. This is the
new it couple in the NFL, behind.

Speaker 1 (01:03:58):
That Taylor and I'm going to look her up. Billy.
By the way, this is who you have to get
as our guest next week.

Speaker 2 (01:04:04):
Is the alternate sate Ratley if you get hur for this.

Speaker 1 (01:04:08):
Madison Beer is a singer. There you go. She's an
American singer. It says she used to she got covers
with Justin Bieber posted a link to one of her songs.
That's her second sentence on her Wikipedia is that Justin
Bieber posted her song? So you're right. She's a singer.
And she also has appeared on Ruth Paul's Drag Race.

Speaker 2 (01:04:32):
And now with Justin Herbert on the streets at La.

Speaker 1 (01:04:36):
Wow. Okay, well, there you go. Well, congrats to her,
and congrats to Justin not Justin Bieber, Justin Herbert. Maybe
she has a thing for Justin. Just Here Trudeau could
be a good year for Justin. Justin Trudeau will be next,
all right, Finally, most people won't care, but you will.
The Rams play at the Titans, a rematch of the

(01:04:57):
Super Bowl that haunts your world? Are you going to
be in Nashville to watch it?

Speaker 7 (01:05:02):
No?

Speaker 2 (01:05:04):
Just Titans, Rams in the same s. It haunts me.
It takes me back to two thousand. We all know
the one yard stop on the Super Bowl, lowest moment
of my sports fandom. I don't love that they're on
the schedule this year. It's in Nashville. One of my
best friends as a Rams fan, I actually skipped his
Super Bowl party in high school during that game. He
wants me to meet him in Nashville, Skylar, I love
you not doing it, staying away from it.

Speaker 1 (01:05:25):
You're not going to go? No, that's brutal.

Speaker 2 (01:05:27):
If there's any any sports trauma that I carry with me,
it's Kentucky basketball with Wisconsin, and it's the Rams Titan
Super Bowl. Those two still hurt me where Jesus lives,
and I'm just not ready to walk into a stadium
where both of those teams are on the field, hurts
you where Jesus lives, right right in the heart, the

(01:05:48):
same it hurts you where Jesus lives. It's been twenty
five years since that game. I still can't even look
at the Rams and the Titans. Jersey's hanging up on
a shelf next to each other.

Speaker 1 (01:06:00):
I didn't know that was the same. I'm gonna have
to start saying that hurts you where Jesus lives, right, Okay, Well,
I'm gonna take the Rams as well. I think they're good.
That Texans game was really boring. I think this game
will be boring too. But I think the Rams win
in Nashville.

Speaker 2 (01:06:17):
Got over his back problems too.

Speaker 1 (01:06:19):
That's good. That's good they had. Yeah, I told you,
just one shot and they'll be He'll be ready. Go.
It'll hurt. It hurt the rest of the week, I'm sure.
But for that, for that part of the game, uh,
it did not. Now we're doing a Survivor league here
on on NFL Cover zero. All three of our teams won.
I had the Broncos. They were able to win in

(01:06:40):
a close game against the Titans. Commanders beat the Giants,
and then Billy kind of went off the grid a
little bit and took the Jaguars and ended up getting it.
So let's I picked first last time, Drew, you get
to pick first this time? Which team would you like?
You cannot pick the Commanders. Yeah, I have one.

Speaker 2 (01:07:00):
I think I'm about to say out loud, and it's
going to be one where when we leave and I
get in my car, I'm going to go, that was
so dumb, but I'm gonna do it. I'm taking the
Cowboys versus the Giants.

Speaker 1 (01:07:11):
Really, you're picking the Cowboys versus the Giants.

Speaker 2 (01:07:15):
It has nothing to do with the Cowboys. I think
the Giants suck and they're going with Russell worked again.
So I'm putting my faith in the Giants sucking more
than the Cowboys doing well.

Speaker 1 (01:07:25):
It's a shocking pick to me this early in the year.

Speaker 2 (01:07:29):
I'm aware. That's why when I get in my car,
I'm probably gonna go that was a bad idea of
believing in the Cowboys on anything. But I think the
Giants are a mess right now, and before they switch
to Jackson Dart, I'm gonna expect a loss.

Speaker 1 (01:07:44):
All right, Well, Billy, you're next. You cannot pick the Jaguars.
Tell who you got that.

Speaker 3 (01:07:49):
Was on my list, so I thought that was a
good picture. I am gonna go off the beaten path
as well. I'm taking the Cardinals at home versus the Panthers.
Picking swift Cardinals.

Speaker 1 (01:08:01):
Panthers is like that is a game that is made.

Speaker 8 (01:08:05):
For They it over to Met Sarkesian and the Panthers
are up six with two mans to go, and Kyler
Murray's driving, like you're really gonna do that?

Speaker 3 (01:08:13):
Giving a little Kyler Murray the chance to prove us wrong.
He hasn't been playing video games. He's been studying his playbook.
If you're looking at if you look at the point spreads,
that one's a lot better man. That's a touchdown and
a half. Mine's only three points.

Speaker 1 (01:08:25):
Those are both shocking to me, Like there is not
a world I would have picked either one of those. Well, okay,
so if i'd picked first, I was gonna pick this one.
You all left it for me, which I cannot believe.
I thought it would be gone. I mean, give me
the Ravens at home against Cleveland. If you're gonna see.

Speaker 2 (01:08:41):
I don't want to waste the Ravens. I gotta save
the Ravens.

Speaker 1 (01:08:44):
Immate, You're gonna be gone before you have a chance
to waste them. I mean, like you're gonna be out.

Speaker 3 (01:08:48):
That's a divisional matchup.

Speaker 2 (01:08:49):
Mat those games canna be close.

Speaker 1 (01:08:51):
What's the spread on it?

Speaker 2 (01:08:53):
Ten on Brown's Ravens. Yeah, let's look, I don't have
that one in front of me.

Speaker 1 (01:08:59):
It's gotta be a big number.

Speaker 2 (01:09:00):
I don't. I mean it won't be. Oh yeah, that's
a big number. Twelve and a half.

Speaker 1 (01:09:08):
Twelve and a half. Come on, that's easy. I mean, yes,
there is an argument to save teams, but saving for
what I mean, you want to get them in a
circumstance where you feel comfortable they're gonna win. Is there
an easier game on the schedule this year for the
Ravens than Browns at home? I mean, I don't think
there is.

Speaker 2 (01:09:24):
So I don't like picking the most obvious for that realon,
I like, if I'm gonna win, I'm gonna need a
good team at the end of the survivor if I'm
gonna lose by not losing week two, you know you
got gamble early, save the good time because it's fun.

Speaker 1 (01:09:34):
Well, first of all, there's only three of us, so
it doesn't take long to survive. Yeh, who do you
think you're going against? Rue? I mean three, I'm just
sitting there.

Speaker 2 (01:09:46):
Well I know, but I mean in case we get
to that point, I'd rather have the Ravens, the Bills,
the Chiefs available lighter in the year.

Speaker 1 (01:09:52):
I think there is a twenty seven percent chance I
win this week and it's over in week two. Okay,
Now we do our anybody score touchdown time, you get
to pick. Remember we divide him into quarterback, wide receiver,
slash tidy and running back. So Billy or so Drew

(01:10:14):
went first. Last week he picked in Djoku. He cannot
picking Joco again the rest of the season. Billy, you
picked McCaffrey as a running back. You can still pick
another running back, but you go first. He can pick
any position you want. What do you got?

Speaker 2 (01:10:28):
Okay?

Speaker 3 (01:10:29):
I am going to go with the Colts Jonathan Taylor
to score against the Denver Broncos. I really like what
Daniel Jones and the Colts did. Jonathan Taylor is the workhorse.
Give me a touchdown for JT.

Speaker 2 (01:10:42):
Billy. Right here in my notes, I wrote down one
player for my pick.

Speaker 9 (01:10:45):
There's Jonathan Tylor. You took the one I wrote down there. Yeah, said,
I didn't see that beforehand. No, so thank you for
taking my one. Thank you interesting Jonathan Taylor.

Speaker 2 (01:10:56):
He didn't score like night.

Speaker 1 (01:10:57):
So you so you pick. So you've picked a running back.
So now I either have to pick a quarterback or
wide receiver. And whatever I don't pick is what Drew
will have to pick. So I used Jalen Hurts last week.
It worked. That's why I have a one nothing lead
on everyone. So I'm gonna have to go a different direction.
I'm sitting here looking you know again. If if you're

(01:11:22):
gonna leave it for me and I get to pick him,
I might as well go all in on the Ravens
and I'll go ahead and use Lamar. At this point,
uh to score against the against the Browns. So give
me Lamar to try to get another win. I'll take
another quarterback. That means Drew, for the second straight week,
you're gonna have to pick a wide receiver or a
tight end. What do you got?

Speaker 2 (01:11:42):
I considered Harold Finn and Junior from Bowling Green, But then.

Speaker 1 (01:11:44):
I looked at the odds.

Speaker 2 (01:11:46):
I looked at the odd No, and Joe CU's the favorite.
I'm not doing that again. So Brown's I eliminated. I
am gonna go with the player I just mentioned that
did nothing last week. There's no way Jamar Chase is
going to be that quiet in week two. He had
two catches last week in Cleveland. Burrow and Chase are
having a big game. I'll have to take him as
my wide receivers. Get a touchdown, all right.

Speaker 1 (01:12:05):
So Joe so Drew uses Jamar Chase for his one
time this year, Billy uses Jonathan Taylor, and I will
use Lamar Jackson. So I get on a plane Friday.
It is a fifteen hour and forty minute flight to Johannesburg,
South Africa, and then I will be joining you all

(01:12:26):
on Sunday for Week two after the after the afternoon games.

Speaker 2 (01:12:32):
Guys, I look forward to it. Looking forward to it too.
I'm sure we'll won't have any technical difficulties at all. None, sure, none.
I'm hoping there's like elephants walking around behind you on
the screen while we're talking to you.

Speaker 1 (01:12:43):
Also, yeah, well I'm going to be I think I'm
gonna be in the city that day, so I don't
expect to say I mean, there'll be real problems if
I see elephants that day, but when we go out
into the reserve in a couple of weeks, it should
be that there's a possibility of that. Thank you again, everybody.
