talking a lot of Kentucky men's basketball. Second half of
the show, we'll talk a lot of Kentucky football with

It goes to a playoff, but then he hit a

saw on the, field just just on what the mindset

Mark stoops said we've got to you, know reset the,
culture reboot this. Roster those were some of his terms
given towards the end of the season last. Year Tom
AND i think really they've made A i, think and
they're letting you know. This they've made a concerted effort
to try to change and try to do things. Different to,
me maybe the biggest takeaway from this spring is that

they use all fifteen. Practices that's not something they've really
done over the last couple of years for multiple different,
reasons whether it be, injury whether it be you, know,
spring your roster is changing so much so and Then
Mark stoops has talked about how they changed the workout,
program how they've changed some team, building personal relationship kind

of exercise is in, activities and how they're going about their.
Business so they've acknowledged that they had a with the
lack of a better, term they had a culture issue last,
year culture, problem and they're working to fix. It and
it seems like everything we've heard that those changes have
been really positive for the. Program but but look to your,
(21:21):
point this is all good preseason, fodder but nothing really
matters until you, know you see what happens when it's
a tight game in the third. Quarter do they fall
apart like they did Against South carolina last? Year are
they able to finish a close? Game and that's something
we're going to find out From september Through.

November, yeah maybe the the best example of, THAT i
thought maybe last year was The vandy game because they're
all coming off the heels of the big win At Ole,
miss and you think you kind of you kind of
reset maybe from The South carolina, debacle and you go

correct And bandy just kind, of you, know pushed him.

Around, YEAH i think adversity hits early in that. Game
you have the you they're driving, down looks like they're
gonna take the. Lead they you, know they have the
penalty that takes them out of essentially takes them out
of scoring. Range vander, built you have a third and,
long you get LIKE i think of roughing the passer
there when you Have bandy backed, up and so, like you,

know you hit some adversity and you don't handle it.
Well and then later in the game they have the
short YARDAGE i think probably the first one of the.
Year the real, like oh, wow this is an issue
that they're. Having they aren't able to punch it in from.
Close and then they just did not handle adversity, well
which has kind of BEEN i think a trend over
the last couple of, years and it felt like they

kind of splintered as a team and they weren't playing
together and pulling on the rope. Together AND i think
that's a big focus area this year With Dean hood
kind of running some of these team building, practices is
to get get everyone on the same, page even from
the coaches the players. Had they're trying to strengthen those
relationships doing some things outside of football activity in the

building and so we're going to see if that. Works
but they are trying something new and it feels, like you,
Know Mark shoops is entering year, thirteen but this almost
feels like a coach in his first or second year
with just kind of the messaging in what they're trying to.
Accomplish it feels like a total, reset even though you
know pretty much all the coaches outside of With Damian
Washington Atbert Rob receiver are all the.

YEAH i was thinking about this as we're talking the
storyline and relating it to The. Masters, Yesterday roy mcailroy
double bogie's the first hole and all of a sudden
it's a tie With bryce And de'shambeau who birdie the

of adversity for both of. Them and it seems to

me That kentucky Was bryson last year and aspires to

Year, Right, Yes, YES i think one of the one
of their strengths has a. PROGRAM i think was being
like in those close games they performed well and they
typically did the other team made mistakes and they typically
wouldn't make. Mistakes some people would get maybe upset about
the conservative nature of how they approach those those, situations

but over time that won them. Games but these last
couple of, YEARS i, think you, know it just hasn't
been the. Same, now why hasn't been the? SAME a
lot of people will point to the offensive, line and
that might have a lot to do with, that BUT
i think just in, general it seems like they have
splintered a little bit as a team and they aren't
as maybe as tight as they were for a good.

Stretch AND i think what you're seeing them change this
offseason is kind of confirmation of that that they know
that they've got to get back to being a team
and everyone playing for each. Other AND i think that's like,
OVERALL i, think over anything, ELSE i think that's their
number one goal as an organization this year is to
get back to having, that because if they don't have,

that then they're going to be in big.

Trouble Mark stup said it was very, vanilla to use his,
words what they showed to the public and the media
and anybody else who was watching On. Saturday but with that,
said you saw. That you also saw the open practice
that they did for the media the previous. Week so
what are your takeaways from what you've actually seen the?

Spring, yeah big takeaway is THAT i was not Expecting
Jagger burton to be kind of the starting center right,
now and it looks like that's his job to. Lose
so that was maybe the biggest SURPRISE i think to
come out of the Spring From. SATURDAY i think maybe
my bigger takeaway is that it seems, like you, know
you don't want to make any overarching kind of takes

out of, this but it seems Like Dante dalbell is
the starting running back right. Now and then It's patterson
And wilcox, together WHERE i thought maybe we would see
more of a true committee, there which we might still,
see but that's what it seems like right. Now and
then the other one is that they've got more injuries
than THEY i think they were leaning. Onto it sounds

to play in probably college and beyond, and we'll just

And it was a great drama yesterday. There had only
been five golfers to win the Career Grand Slam, and

Rory McElroy became the sixth, but my goodness, did he
ride a roller coaster with If you didn't watch, he
had two double bogies in his round and then all
he's got to do is make par. On the last hole,
he hits a great drive and then his second shot

one fairly short putt to win the Masters, and he missed.
It goes to a playoff, but then he hit a
spectacular second shot in close and got his birdie on
the first playoff hole to defeat Justin Rose. And Rose

what's your takeaway, first before we talk about what we
saw on the, field just just on what the mindset

is overall for this.

Mark stoops said we've got to you, know reset the,
culture reboot this. Roster those were some of his terms
given towards the end of the season last. Year Tom
AND i think really they've made A i, think and
they're letting you know. This they've made a concerted effort
to try to change and try to do things. Different to,
me maybe the biggest takeaway from this spring is that

they use all fifteen. Practices that's not something they've really
done over the last couple of years for multiple different,
reasons whether it be, injury whether it be you, know,
spring your roster is changing so much so and Then
Mark stoops has talked about how they changed the workout,
program how they've changed some team, building personal relationship kind

of exercise is in, activities and how they're going about their.
Business so they've acknowledged that they had a with the
lack of a better, term they had a culture issue last,
year culture, problem and they're working to fix. It and
it seems like everything we've heard that those changes have
been really positive for the. Program but but look to your,
(21:21):
point this is all good preseason, fodder but nothing really
matters until you, know you see what happens when it's
a tight game in the third. Quarter do they fall
apart like they did Against South carolina last? Year are
they able to finish a close? Game and that's something
we're going to find out From september Through.

November, yeah maybe the the best example of, THAT i
thought maybe last year was The vandy game because they're
all coming off the heels of the big win At Ole,
miss and you think you kind of you kind of
reset maybe from The South carolina, debacle and you go
down and Upset Old. Miss and that's if memory, serves
that was after an open date That vandy came in, here,
correct And bandy just kind, of you, know pushed him.

Around, YEAH i think adversity hits early in that. Game
you have the you they're driving, down looks like they're
gonna take the. Lead they you, know they have the
penalty that takes them out of essentially takes them out
of scoring. Range vander, built you have a third and,
long you get LIKE i think of roughing the passer
there when you Have bandy backed, up and so, like you,

know you hit some adversity and you don't handle it.
Well and then later in the game they have the
short YARDAGE i think probably the first one of the.
Year the real, like oh, wow this is an issue
that they're. Having they aren't able to punch it in from.
Close and then they just did not handle adversity, well
which has kind of BEEN i think a trend over
the last couple of, years and it felt like they

kind of splintered as a team and they weren't playing
together and pulling on the rope. Together AND i think
that's a big focus area this year With Dean hood
kind of running some of these team building, practices is
to get get everyone on the same, page even from
the coaches the players. Had they're trying to strengthen those
relationships doing some things outside of football activity in the

building and so we're going to see if that. Works
but they are trying something new and it feels, like you,
Know Mark shoops is entering year, thirteen but this almost
feels like a coach in his first or second year
with just kind of the messaging in what they're trying to.
Accomplish it feels like a total, reset even though you
know pretty much all the coaches outside of With Damian
Washington Atbert Rob receiver are all the.

YEAH i was thinking about this as we're talking the
storyline and relating it to The. Masters, Yesterday roy mcailroy
double bogie's the first hole and all of a sudden
it's a tie With bryce And de'shambeau who birdie the

of adversity for both of. Them and it seems to

me That kentucky Was bryson last year and aspires to
Be rory this.

Year, Right, Yes, YES i think one of the one
of their strengths has a. PROGRAM i think was being
like in those close games they performed well and they
typically did the other team made mistakes and they typically
wouldn't make. Mistakes some people would get maybe upset about
the conservative nature of how they approach those those, situations

but over time that won them. Games but these last
couple of, YEARS i, think you, know it just hasn't
been the. Same, now why hasn't been the? SAME a
lot of people will point to the offensive, line and
that might have a lot to do with, that BUT
i think just in, general it seems like they have
splintered a little bit as a team and they aren't
as maybe as tight as they were for a good.

Stretch AND i think what you're seeing them change this
offseason is kind of confirmation of that that they know
that they've got to get back to being a team
and everyone playing for each. Other AND i think that's like,
OVERALL i, think over anything, ELSE i think that's their
number one goal as an organization this year is to
get back to having, that because if they don't have,

that then they're going to be in big.

Trouble Mark stup said it was very, vanilla to use his,
words what they showed to the public and the media
and anybody else who was watching On. Saturday but with that,
said you saw. That you also saw the open practice
that they did for the media the previous. Week so
what are your takeaways from what you've actually seen the?

Spring, yeah big takeaway is THAT i was not Expecting
Jagger burton to be kind of the starting center right,
now and it looks like that's his job to. Lose
so that was maybe the biggest SURPRISE i think to
come out of the Spring From. SATURDAY i think maybe
my bigger takeaway is that it seems, like you, know
you don't want to make any overarching kind of takes

out of, this but it seems Like Dante dalbell is
the starting running back right. Now and then It's patterson
And wilcox, together WHERE i thought maybe we would see
more of a true committee, there which we might still,
see but that's what it seems like right. Now and
then the other one is that they've got more injuries
than THEY i think they were leaning. Onto it sounds
like they have a lot of. Guys maybe it's precautionary or,

whatnot but they held a lot of guys out On,
saturday specifically at the wide receiver. Position and so those
were kind of my three big picture takeaways from the,
spring AND i guess the other one would be that
this is.

LEGITIMATELY i Think Zach calzada he's the starting. Quarterback he
is the, guy and Then cutter as a. BACKUP i
know some thought maybe there would be a competition, there

a seventh year quarterback in his last. Year it seems
like this is his this is his operation to.

WHAT i would have. EXPECTED i, mean, yeah and you,
know there's just LIKE i Expect Jayalen low to be
the starting point guard For, kentucky but still got to
go out there and prove.

Could AS i said, Earlier Katan lewis could have beaten
him out that he chosen to. Stay so it's no,
guarantee But kalzada seemingly must have done enough to be
the guy that they sent out there for the first

the ball well and from all, reports you, know has progressed,
well and so, uh you, know he it's seems like

back to what the original plan was of he'd probably
be an understudy for two years and then the job
would be.

had a couple of guys that were held out of

one of them being Freshman Monthavin quisonberry From Boyle, county
who maybe had the best catch of the day PAST
i think was maybe the last play of the scrimmaging
WHERE i think it Was saunders right that threw the
ball and got deflected And quiztenberry still found a way
to catch it right inside the pylon in the front
of the end.

Zone, yeah and you know he had this last. Play
BUT i think one of the bigger stars WAS Dj
miller throughout spring practice just kind of what you were
hearing from other players about and what he showed at
the open practice would sound like or looked like he
was going to be a guy that could really help
him and he was a big recruiting win for them
out Of Saint. Louis it came down to them In

Old miss right down to the. Wire kentucky ends up
being able to hold onto him and get him, signed
and he's looking like a guy that's going to play
for them this. Year then as, Expected Mac Lanning alabama
Transfer Kendrick law were kind of the top, two top
two guys there at wide. Receiver but do not be
surprised if you SEE Dj miller number seven having a

role in this offense once the games.

BEGIN i would think the current climate that we're in
an il park of it, is you, know as far
as try to keep the guys that you have and,
uh you know the nil angle to, it and sometimes
you uh and Maybe kentucky got into a little bit of.
This you let guys, uh you, know kind of cut
a few more corners than you know you should.

Thing but the other side of this too is if
you get a if you win a recruiting battle like.
That these, days you, know it's, uh it's hard to
uh you, know develop a guy so to, speak and
kind of you, know bringing him along, slowly, right if
he can help you at, all you need to utilize
him so you can keep.

Him, yeah it definitely has a feel right now of
you're building one year, teams so you've got to do
whatever it takes for that team to be as good
as possible and if that means some shortcuts and player,
evaluation that's probably something you do because who's to even
say they're going to be on to your team next.
Year they could want to move on for whatever. Reason,

yeah and so that's something you have to. Consider and
that's WHY i think you're seeing a lot of Coaches
i'm just and true, freshmen even Like Mark stoops And
kentucky have burned redshirts THAT i don't think they would
have burned in the past just for on guys playing
special teams because you don't know if they're even gonna
be here or if you're gonna want to recruit someone over,
them right like in the portal that all that. Stuff
(31:17):
it's kind of unpredicted when it's so fluid that you
just gotta you just, gotta you, know you just need
to play these guys because getting them on the field
is probably gonna help probably some of the unhappiness would
come by if they're not playing at. All so even
having them playing at all maybe something in your favor
when when it comes to those those decision making things

that they have to get through once once the season's, in.

Any insight or intel on how the True edward's case
will play out the wide receiver From La.
Speaker 5 (31:46):
Tech, yeah to my, understanding he hits every checkpoint of
the kind of document they released said you have to do, this,
this and this to be. Cleared now with this junior college,
ruling this is only gonna be a one time. Thing
it looks like they're The ndgate is trying this to
be a one time. Thing it's an exception to the,
rule and then they're gonna come back and make it illegal.

Somehow but you could not play if you're only year
in junior college was twenty, twenty THE covid. YEAR i
believe each year one. Eligible but Since edwards spent two
years in junior college nineteen and twenty played in, nineteen
that means he is he should be, eligible and they
should get him cleared and he should be on the

roster this summer and participate in fall. Camp but we
got to see them go ahead and get through that.
Clearance AND i think all this time is kind of
tied up with the, settlement getting that done, first and
then they'll probably move on to that shortly after that gets,
settled until hopefully here in the next month month and
a half get official word on that and That kentucky

should Have True edwards on their.

Roster, well that's, good and good luck to THE ncaa
on setting that policy after they've already done. Exemptions their
record court is only slightly worse than the guy that

are coming out that maybe like his, chimp wanted to
maybe hold out in the playoffs time to give them
the most. LEVERAGE a lot of this stuff is what's

like to. Be tennessee kind of called the bluff and,

said we'll see if you actually do enter the portal
at this, stage and they went ahead and did.

feels like the schools and the programs have no power

ESPECIALLY i think the big ones with these big, deals
that's the biggest that their biggest issue because they just
DON'T i, mean it's it's whatever you want to. Do
the players kind of have all the power and the
schools and programs can get pushed around a little bit
at the negotiation, table WHERE i Think tennessee here kind
of stood their ground and that was the result and

pendulum to in their direction to some. Degree to a large, degree,
