Speaker 1 (00:00):
Good damn. Welcome into the Leach Report, presented by Bobcat Enterprises.
As we start the week of shows here on our
program and today first half of the show, we'll be
talking a lot of Kentucky men's basketball. Second half of
the show, we'll talk a lot of Kentucky football with
Aaron Gershaw the cast pause and Adam Luckett from on

(00:24):
three Sports and KSR. So we'll kind of get you
covered on both sides. To get the week started. Wildcat
News of the Day presented by Joseppis of Lexington. Before
we get into the Wildcat News, how about the Masters yesterday?
Tremendous drama. I love watching the majors. I did not

(00:45):
follow golf a lot growing up, but as I started
to play in probably college and beyond, and we'll just
love the majors. Don't watch a lot of golf beyond that,
but love the majors, just you know what's on the line.
And it was a great drama yesterday. There had only
been five golfers to win the Career Grand Slam, and

(01:10):
that's all four majors over the course of a career.
Rory McElroy became the sixth, but my goodness, did he
ride a roller coaster with If you didn't watch, he
had two double bogies in his round and then all
he's got to do is make par. On the last hole,
he hits a great drive and then his second shot
goes into the sand. He gets out, got to make

(01:31):
one fairly short putt to win the Masters, and he missed.
It goes to a playoff, but then he hit a
spectacular second shot in close and got his birdie on
the first playoff hole to defeat Justin Rose. And Rose
had made a tremendous clutch birdie putt on eighteen about
I don't know, half hour forty five minutes before McElroy finished,

(01:53):
and you know, Rose just has to kind of sit
and wait and see if that's going to be good
enough to get in the win or get him in
a playoff, and it was the latter, but McElroy prevails,
and both guys seem very likable, So I was kind
of happy either way whoever won. It was a great
finish and I was just as a sports fan happy
for Michaelroy to join that very exclusive club. Wildcat News

(02:18):
have been for a week for bark Popen Company as
they picked up a player from Croatia that hadn't been
on anybody's radar. Andrea Lovic will assume for now is
their correct pronunciation six' eleven seven to two wingspan turns
twenty one next. Month and Then Brandon garrison announcing that

(02:38):
he will return for a second season At. Kentucky so
that Gives kentucky With Jaden quaintans And Malchi moreno four,
bigs kind of similar to What florida had this past.
Season different skill sets among the, guys BUT i like
the looks of. THAT i loved How florida boy therefore big.

(03:01):
Men and Then Lamar, wilkerson an outstanding shooter averaged over
twenty a game last season At Sam Houston. State he
made a visit To lexington, yesterday was out At. Keeland
at one POINT i looked. UP i was standing just
outside the winter circle after a, race AND i look
up and the winning horse is being led into the

(03:21):
winter circle By Mark pope And Lamar. Wilkerson SO i
doubt that happened on any other visits that he has.
Taken and we'll see if that and other aspects of
THE uk program And Central kentucky will attract young Mister
wilkerson to The wildcat. Team he had Visited indiana, before

(03:42):
and there was a lot of speculation that among the
folks that follow this that he was maybe going to
commit while he was. There he did not came To,
lexington so that has to be good news for The
wildcats to at least be in the. Fight and we'll
talk about all of that With Aaron gersham when he
is here in a. Bit The Spring Football showcase was

(04:02):
held On saturday on a beautiful weather day out At Kroger.
FIELD i went out AND i got to watch. THAT
i hadn't been able to see much of spring ball
because of basketball season and working out Of. Kielan Mark
stoops acknowledged it was very vanilla in terms of what
they were showing to any other coaches that were, Watching

(04:24):
but it was just an opportunity to get players out
there to make some plays and let fans and media see.
THEM i. Thought Zach calzada certainly impressed me with his arm.
STRENGTH i asked someone around the program at one point
where exactly he would fit in on The lorenz And levis.
Scale those are the two strongest ARMS i think from

(04:44):
my time of following, this and they said he's right, there,
close but probably a third to those. Two Jimori, macklin
the wide, receiver, afterward talked about how impressed he is
with the ball That calzada, throws and he said he
can quote throw you, open meaning that you know he's

(05:06):
again coming a quarterback at his seventh. Year he, can
as maclan pointed, out throw the ball in such a
way that it leads, you you, know away from a
defender and into a spot where you can make a.
Catch Tim couch was exceptional at doing that kind of.
THING i thought it was. Interesting dante Dow dell And
Jason patterson were the only running backs that took all

(05:27):
of the reps with the ones in the scrimmaging they,
did and Then Jagger burton is still running number one
with the ones as the. Center we really the transfer
From Western kentucky who was kind of penciled in at that.
Spot he battled some injuries through the. Spring he's back,
now But jagger's still taking the reps and. Center and
we'll talk a little bit about that With Adam luckett

(05:49):
when he joins us a little later. On links to
the stories that we talk about each, day you can
find those on the Bud Light Leach report page At
tom Leach ky dot. Com our opening segments presented By
joseppies Of Lex and if you want a fantastic meal
and a really special, atmosphere that's where you need to.
Go just Outside man Of war Off Nicholasville. Road it's
tucked away on this little side road and it's a

(06:11):
really nice. Setting if you sit in the lounge are
you'll have live jazz music to accompany your. Meal the
food's fantastic is right there with. It it's just. Sepies
go to the open table today and make your. Reservation
we'll be right back With Eron gershan From The Cat's.
Paws Heredrew perk comes to it from The Clarks Spumping Shop. Studio,
Return refresh and refuel At clark's download their app and

(06:34):
sign up for the New loyalty rewards program. Too we
go to The Club bluennil dot Com hoghline bring On
Eron groshan From The Cat's pause to recap an eventful
week For Mark pope End. Company eron stuck with about
the Big man From Croatia, yelavic that that commitment came,
in that one took everybody by, surprise, Right, yeah that

(06:57):
one came out of left.

Speaker 2 (06:58):
FIELD i think when that tweet was sent off By cody.
Figures maybe the visit With indiana With Lamar buttlkerson went
poorly and it was similar if you remember last Year
Brendan garrison was on a visit To arkansas ironically when
he committed To. Kentucky so maybe it was another one
of those. Situations and then you know the news came

(07:19):
through FROM SPNs FROM espn THAT i believe It's.

Speaker 3 (07:24):
Jelvich you'll know better than.

Speaker 1 (07:26):
Me. YEAH i tried to find some pronunciations last night
looking around on, videos and mostly since he's, committed MOSTLY
i could find videos of people like me who were
hoping to pronounce his name correctly that were from this
side of the, pond as they. SAY i couldn't find
all the highlights from overseas were set to, music so
it didn't give me much.

Speaker 2 (07:47):
Help, Yeah, NO i couldn't find one, either but, yeah
really very interesting prospects for, Sure definitely fits that stretch
for role That kentucky was looking to fill this.

Speaker 3 (07:59):
Offseason to be.

Speaker 2 (08:00):
Honest with, you when it seemed Like Brendon garrison was coming,
back and they Added Modia. BOTE i know he's a
little bit on the smaller size for, four and Obviously
Jenny quainton's as. WELL i thought Maybe kentucky was done
in the front, court and, they you, know you.

Speaker 3 (08:14):
HAVE i think it's going to be fifteen.

Speaker 2 (08:16):
Scholarships The house settlement should give some clarity with that this.
Week But i'm still kind of operating under the thirteen
number just for.

Speaker 3 (08:25):
Now just Because i'm not with THE.

Speaker 2 (08:28):
NCAA i know it's, core BUT i just nothing's a.
Given SO i kind of figured with two spots, left
probably another.

Speaker 3 (08:34):
Shooter now with.

Speaker 2 (08:35):
The Katon lewisty, committed maybe another point, guard but, no
they filled the stretch four role in a very interesting prospect.

Speaker 1 (08:42):
There kind of gives him a little bit of a
look that At florida had for bigs that, have you,
know some versatile and complimentary skill. Sets and then they
Had aberdeen is that kind of guy off the, bench
and he was more of a perimeter, guy Where abatte
you think is more of a of a four slash three, Right.

Speaker 2 (09:05):
Yes him and Camp WILLIAMS i think are versatile where
they could play the three and the, four and they
could really guard one through.

Speaker 1 (09:11):
Four.

Speaker 2 (09:12):
Uh the Abat may you can make the argument he
can guard one through.

Speaker 3 (09:15):
Five SO i really love what they're.

Speaker 2 (09:18):
Doing as far as the athleticism, GOES i mean that
was definitely their biggest issue last, season not that they
weren't a talented, team but they just they got out
physicals in a lot of games and they just had
some they struggled with some of the freaky athletes that
they had to play against in THE.

Speaker 3 (09:34):
Sec.

Speaker 2 (09:36):
Uh AND i DON'T i don't anticipate that being an
issue this year between you, KNOW i love the the
versatility and the athleticism with The abaate And williams that
you pointed. Out but we all Know Jaden quainton's from
watching him and seeing him grow while he was committed
To kentucky just how much of an athlete he is

(09:57):
and as long as they can get him on the court,
help WHICH i don't think is going to be an.
ISSUE i mean that's a heck of an. Addition and
you know it's just this an Assuming oh take always.

Speaker 3 (10:09):
BACK i mean he was the one who was kind
of that freaky athlete who had last.

Speaker 2 (10:13):
Year so, uh AND i, love, love love the depth
in the front. Court SO i think FOR i think
they're having a heck of a start to this.

Speaker 1 (10:21):
OFFSEASON i think we know two. Things see if you,
agree we know that Assuming o takea always, back Which
i'm assuming that he'll be starting at the, two and
WE i think, No Jalen lowe will be starting at the.
ONE i don't know what we know beyond, THAT.

Speaker 3 (10:39):
I would, AGREE i, think and that's.

Speaker 1 (10:40):
GREAT i, think, YES i. Agree, well you're.

Speaker 2 (10:43):
Gonna have a lot of, competition, uh you, know during
the summer and then into the.

Speaker 3 (10:47):
Fall and we all know. Too and it was something
that we kind of. POPE i wouldn't say.

Speaker 2 (10:52):
Pope That Mark, popo we definitely asked a. Lot is
that he loves the big. Rotations he'll play eleven guys
if eleven guys are worthy of playing, time and he'll
HE'LL i wouldn't say even those, minutes but He'll no
one really played more than.

Speaker 3 (11:08):
Thirty in an ideal.

Speaker 2 (11:11):
Situation, obviously when the injuries piled, up it felt like
Especially Kobe bray And Otaga away definitely played a big
chunk of.

Speaker 3 (11:18):
Minutes but that's not How Mark polpe likes to.

Speaker 2 (11:21):
Operate in an ideal, World so the minutes are going
to be there to be. Had it's just a matter
of who's going to be starting them and more, importantly who's.

Speaker 3 (11:29):
Going to be finishing of. Them BUT i, AGREE i
think Take.

Speaker 2 (11:32):
Away you can pencil him into the starting lineup if he's.
Back Jalen lowe being really the only true point guard
in the, roster definitely can pencil him into the starting one.

Speaker 3 (11:42):
Spot but everything else to be up for, grabs and that's.

Speaker 1 (11:45):
Great wilkerson visiting, yesterday so he would certainly be in
the shooter that people have been wondering about At kentucky
could find another. Shooter Is indiana the main competition?

Speaker 3 (11:57):
There sounds like.

Speaker 2 (11:59):
It but you, know he does have a visit To
auburn scheduled for later, today AND i kind of respect. It,
nowadays it's kind of like up to be. Going whoever
gets the first, visit it's basically. OVER i kind of
like that he's taking the time to go through all
his visits and really make a calculated.

Speaker 3 (12:16):
DECISION i, MEAN.

Speaker 2 (12:16):
I Know kentucky fans probably And Mark pope probably hopes
before he leaves this morning that he'll just, Commit but
it seems like he's going through this process very thoroughly
and really taking off his taking it all in and
making the best decision for. Him so we'll see what
type of Competition auburn. Is my thing With auburn is
they're kind of crowded at his. Position if they're bringing

(12:39):
Back Baker, mazara which sounds like is the, case they
should get To Shot pettiford. Back he's going through the draft,
process BUT i think he's going to be back at
the end of the. Day and then they brought In Keishawn,
hall who's a three out of the transfer, portals SO
i Know Will christian's more of a, two but they
just seems like there's a lot a little bit of
a log him position for him there. There you, know

(13:04):
he he'll definitely have to compete for minutes, here but
he'd be, There Kobe burrier replacement and hopefully he hopefully
AND i Think Mark pope probably did maybe he Got
Kobe bray on the phone or, something BECAUSE i think
that's a pretty enticing.

Speaker 1 (13:21):
Role AND i would say that the sales pitch was
That Kobe brea was not AN nba draft prospect when
he came To, kentucky but he leaves.

Speaker 2 (13:33):
Exactly and and it's not like his shooting numbers went
too far south with more attempts. HERE i, mean they
just stayed right in the mid. Forties so, NO i
think the sales pitch Is, HONESTLY i Think kentucky has
the clearest kitchen role for.

Speaker 3 (13:48):
HIM i Get, auburn you.

Speaker 2 (13:50):
Know obviously could sell the fact, they're you, know coming
off a final four. Run they do have a lot
of roster spots to, fill but AGAIN i think there's
a little bit of a logjam at that specific. Spot
and Then indiana right, NOW i think they only have
four players on, board so that would be intriguing from
a playing.

Speaker 3 (14:06):
Time, Standpoint but you don't know who's going to be
around you to set you.

Speaker 2 (14:10):
Up and it just seems Like kentucky has the most
answers to give.

Speaker 3 (14:14):
Him we'll see if he follows my.

Speaker 2 (14:16):
Logic and we also got to consider a little bit,
unfortunately it's also going to be whoever decides to make
the best biggest financial.

Speaker 3 (14:24):
Investment.

Speaker 1 (14:25):
True, Uh and the only the way that we know
that is That tennessee is looking for a quarterback.

Speaker 3 (14:34):
Exactly there's a. Reason, yeah that's that's. Guess where we're
at quick.

Speaker 1 (14:39):
Break we'll come back with more From aaron ingist A,
Ball but it is The Lads report presented By Bobcat.
Enterprises they have four locations Around. Kentucky so if you
need to buy or rent a piece of heavy, equipment
that's who you. Call Bobcat. Enterprises google to find the
one closest to you and do business with those, folks
and they'll take great care if. You we'll be right.
Back we're back With ergars from The Cat's pause The

(15:01):
Club blue nil dot com hotline with the decommitment of
A Caden. Lewis, FIRST i don't know if you have
any insight on, This. Aaron was it more of a
situation where other people are find themselves in the point
guard market and they could offer him more, minutes better
and more. Money or was it a case of he
saw the competition here and wanted to go. Elsewhere, yeah

(15:25):
both those things played into.

Speaker 2 (15:26):
It the biggest factor THAT i found talking to people
was That kentucky took a point guard in jail and
low that had two years of eligibility rather than. One
that was what it came down, to is WHAT i.

Speaker 1 (15:36):
Heard Uh so that's as simple as. That, well it's
interesting because you know it's there's just because they took
a point guard with two years of, eligibility it didn't
mean you couldn't beat him.

Speaker 2 (15:48):
OUT i, mean, LOOK i respect the, decision of, course
but you, know you look at the again we talked
about in the first segment, There kentucky loves to have
a large rotation and get. Guys they don't want guys
to play thirty plus. Minutes they WANT i guess energy
OR i forget the term That pope always, uses but high.

(16:10):
Energy they don't want to have guys drained out.

Speaker 3 (16:13):
There and obviously you know you're.

Speaker 1 (16:16):
NOT i.

Speaker 2 (16:17):
DON'T i think last year was a freak situation with the.
Injuries they could always. HAPPEN i just don't Anticipate kentucky
to be down to zero point guards again this coming.
Season but you're an injury away from your number being.

Speaker 3 (16:29):
Called and just look At.

Speaker 2 (16:30):
Travis you should go talk To Travis, perry a guy
that many expected to hardly play ended up making you,
know five starts or whatever it.

Speaker 3 (16:38):
Was so you know it is what it.

Speaker 1 (16:41):
Is, yeah, NO i. Agree so who do they look?
For do they look? For because if they were to Get,
wilkerson they'd be at, thirteen, right they would be.

Speaker 3 (16:54):
They would be at. Thirteen it'll be.

Speaker 2 (16:56):
Interesting i'm curious to see what your approach will be
if they Get wilkerson and if they, don't but if they, do,
specifically do you kind of just give a couple guys
who are combo guards And Jasper, johnson you, Know Colin.
Chandler Obviously Charvis ferry has a whole off season to
put on some good weight and work at the one.

(17:16):
SPOT i, mean you have, options it's just you don't
have a guy whose natural position is the point.

Speaker 3 (17:22):
Guard on the roster outside Of Jalen.

Speaker 2 (17:24):
Low so you, know obviously there's a lot of positionless
stuff That kentucky likes to.

Speaker 3 (17:28):
Run but you would definitely like to have a second.

Speaker 2 (17:31):
Ball handler and, maybe you, know once you Get wilkerson on,
board then you wait for this house settlement and you
get it up to.

Speaker 3 (17:38):
Fourteen but, uh it's.

Speaker 2 (17:40):
Hard it's hard for me to imagine they're gonna have
a fourteen man.

Speaker 3 (17:44):
ROTATION i think it'll be.

Speaker 2 (17:45):
Eleven and you, know they'll duke it out for those
spots here in the summer in the, fall so it's
gonna be really interesting to.

Speaker 3 (17:52):
Watch i'm not quite sure what the approach.

Speaker 2 (17:54):
Is clearly their top target target right now Is Lamar,
wilkerson and you know we'll see what happens he makes this.

Speaker 1 (18:00):
Decision you can follow it at katzpause dot com With Aaron,

let's go too Now Am luckett from on Three sports
AND ksr before we bring him. In let me play
a clip From Ty. Bryant this was after the spring

(19:08):
showcase On saturday out At Kroger field And junior free
safety Ty bryant talking to the media.

Speaker 4 (19:17):
BECAUSE i feel like no one wants to go through
what we went through last. YEAR i, mean everyone knows
that we want four. Games it was a bad season
for us and the feeling that we had we walked
off this deal for the last time Against. Louisville no
one wants to feel that way.

Speaker 1 (19:29):
Again so that Was Ty. Bryant as we Bring Adam
luckett into the program And adam last season after that
forty one to fourteen loss To. Louisville you guys that
were going to the postgame, interviews there were a couple
of guys there that talked about what basically needed to
change and things, like you, know leadership and. Accountability one

(19:49):
of them Was Jamury micklin and the other one Was Ty,
Bryant and those were the two guys that talked to
the media after this showcase along With Coach stoops On.
Saturday SO i thought that was interesting AND i liked
hearing that. Comment now they've got to go ahead and you,
know back it up on the field this. Fall but
what's your takeaway, first before we talk about what we
saw on the, field just just on what the mindset

(20:12):
is overall for this.

Speaker 3 (20:13):
Program, yeah Even.

Speaker 5 (20:16):
Mark stoops said we've got to you, know reset the,
culture reboot this. Roster those were some of his terms
given towards the end of the season last. Year Tom
AND i think really they've made A i, think and
they're letting you know. This they've made a concerted effort
to try to change and try to do things. Different to,
me maybe the biggest takeaway from this spring is that

(20:37):
they use all fifteen. Practices that's not something they've really
done over the last couple of years for multiple different,
reasons whether it be, injury whether it be you, know,
spring your roster is changing so much so and Then
Mark stoops has talked about how they changed the workout,
program how they've changed some team, building personal relationship kind

(20:58):
of exercise is in, activities and how they're going about their.
Business so they've acknowledged that they had a with the
lack of a better, term they had a culture issue last,
year culture, problem and they're working to fix. It and
it seems like everything we've heard that those changes have
been really positive for the. Program but but look to your,

(21:21):
point this is all good preseason, fodder but nothing really
matters until you, know you see what happens when it's
a tight game in the third. Quarter do they fall
apart like they did Against South carolina last? Year are
they able to finish a close? Game and that's something
we're going to find out From september Through.

Speaker 1 (21:38):
November, yeah maybe the the best example of, THAT i
thought maybe last year was The vandy game because they're
all coming off the heels of the big win At Ole,
miss and you think you kind of you kind of
reset maybe from The South carolina, debacle and you go
down and Upset Old. Miss and that's if memory, serves
that was after an open date That vandy came in, here,
correct And bandy just kind, of you, know pushed him.

Speaker 5 (22:02):
Around, YEAH i think adversity hits early in that. Game
you have the you they're driving, down looks like they're
gonna take the. Lead they you, know they have the
penalty that takes them out of essentially takes them out
of scoring. Range vander, built you have a third and,
long you get LIKE i think of roughing the passer
there when you Have bandy backed, up and so, like you,

(22:26):
know you hit some adversity and you don't handle it.
Well and then later in the game they have the
short YARDAGE i think probably the first one of the.
Year the real, like oh, wow this is an issue
that they're. Having they aren't able to punch it in from.
Close and then they just did not handle adversity, well
which has kind of BEEN i think a trend over
the last couple of, years and it felt like they

(22:48):
kind of splintered as a team and they weren't playing
together and pulling on the rope. Together AND i think
that's a big focus area this year With Dean hood
kind of running some of these team building, practices is
to get get everyone on the same, page even from
the coaches the players. Had they're trying to strengthen those
relationships doing some things outside of football activity in the

(23:09):
building and so we're going to see if that. Works
but they are trying something new and it feels, like you,
Know Mark shoops is entering year, thirteen but this almost
feels like a coach in his first or second year
with just kind of the messaging in what they're trying to.
Accomplish it feels like a total, reset even though you
know pretty much all the coaches outside of With Damian
Washington Atbert Rob receiver are all the.

Speaker 6 (23:30):
Same.

Speaker 1 (23:31):
YEAH i was thinking about this as we're talking the
storyline and relating it to The. Masters, Yesterday roy mcailroy
double bogie's the first hole and all of a sudden
it's a tie With bryce And de'shambeau who birdie the
first hole and from there there was a roller coaster
of adversity for both of. Them and it seems to

(23:52):
me That kentucky Was bryson last year and aspires to
Be rory this.

Speaker 5 (23:56):
Year, Right, Yes, YES i think one of the one
of their strengths has a. PROGRAM i think was being
like in those close games they performed well and they
typically did the other team made mistakes and they typically
wouldn't make. Mistakes some people would get maybe upset about
the conservative nature of how they approach those those, situations

(24:19):
but over time that won them. Games but these last
couple of, YEARS i, think you, know it just hasn't
been the. Same, now why hasn't been the? SAME a
lot of people will point to the offensive, line and
that might have a lot to do with, that BUT
i think just in, general it seems like they have
splintered a little bit as a team and they aren't
as maybe as tight as they were for a good.

(24:42):
Stretch AND i think what you're seeing them change this
offseason is kind of confirmation of that that they know
that they've got to get back to being a team
and everyone playing for each. Other AND i think that's like,
OVERALL i, think over anything, ELSE i think that's their
number one goal as an organization this year is to
get back to having, that because if they don't have,

(25:03):
that then they're going to be in big.

Speaker 1 (25:04):
Trouble Mark stup said it was very, vanilla to use his,
words what they showed to the public and the media
and anybody else who was watching On. Saturday but with that,
said you saw. That you also saw the open practice
that they did for the media the previous. Week so
what are your takeaways from what you've actually seen the?

Speaker 5 (25:23):
Spring, yeah big takeaway is THAT i was not Expecting
Jagger burton to be kind of the starting center right,
now and it looks like that's his job to. Lose
so that was maybe the biggest SURPRISE i think to
come out of the Spring From. SATURDAY i think maybe
my bigger takeaway is that it seems, like you, know
you don't want to make any overarching kind of takes

(25:47):
out of, this but it seems Like Dante dalbell is
the starting running back right. Now and then It's patterson
And wilcox, together WHERE i thought maybe we would see
more of a true committee, there which we might still,
see but that's what it seems like right. Now and
then the other one is that they've got more injuries
than THEY i think they were leaning. Onto it sounds
like they have a lot of. Guys maybe it's precautionary or,

(26:08):
whatnot but they held a lot of guys out On,
saturday specifically at the wide receiver. Position and so those
were kind of my three big picture takeaways from the,
spring AND i guess the other one would be that
this is.

Speaker 1 (26:21):
This is.

Speaker 5 (26:22):
LEGITIMATELY i Think Zach calzada he's the starting. Quarterback he
is the, guy and Then cutter as a. BACKUP i
know some thought maybe there would be a competition, there
but It's calzada is this team starting.

Speaker 1 (26:32):
Quarterback we'll talk about that in the wide receiver. Spot
a little bit about the defense when we come back
With Adam. Luckett you read him in on Three sports
and ks are Covering kentucky football and. More it is
the leads report we're presented each day By bob kat.
Enterprises he can throw them all very.

Speaker 7 (26:50):
Well he knows where to put the, ball which is
like the best. Thing like he will he will throw
you open if that makes. Sense you, know If i'm
covered in THE dB is on me very. Well he
knows what to throw the ball to put me in
a position to cass them.

Speaker 1 (27:00):
Ball Jory, macklin wide receiver for The, wildcats, saying he's
talking About Zach, calzada the transfer, quarterback seventh year playing college.
Football and as we were chatting With Adam luckett from
on Three sports AND ksr and you were just saying
heading into the break that you Think kalzada is the.

Speaker 5 (27:20):
Man, yeah just it just seems that, way which is
what you would expect when you go out and get
a seventh year quarterback in his last. Year it seems
like this is his this is his operation to.

Speaker 1 (27:31):
Run, yeah it does feel that, way and that's that's
WHAT i would have. EXPECTED i, mean, yeah and you,
know there's just LIKE i Expect Jayalen low to be
the starting point guard For, kentucky but still got to
go out there and prove.

Speaker 3 (27:46):
It they.

Speaker 1 (27:47):
Could AS i said, Earlier Katan lewis could have beaten
him out that he chosen to. Stay so it's no,
guarantee But kalzada seemingly must have done enough to be
the guy that they sent out there for the first
steps On. Sadaturday BUT i Thought, bully you, know threw
the ball well and from all, reports you, know has progressed,
well and so, uh you, know he it's seems like

(28:11):
back to what the original plan was of he'd probably
be an understudy for two years and then the job
would be.

Speaker 3 (28:17):
His.

Speaker 5 (28:19):
RIGHT i think that's exactly. RIGHT i think they're sticking
to what the BLUEPRINT i think was For Cutter bully coming. In,
yeah he had a chanceification. Quarterback yeah.

Speaker 1 (28:29):
Yeah if he had taken the bull by the horns
there in The louisville game last year and you, know
built on that second half Of, texas then, yeah maybe
it would have played out. Differently but the thing was
that was a lot to ask to do. That. Absolutely,
uh let's talk about the guys that they'll be throwing,
too and you said they were a little. Thin they
had a couple of guys that were held out of

(28:51):
this thing On. SATURDAYS i think there were five, guys
one of them being Freshman Monthavin quisonberry From Boyle, county
who maybe had the best catch of the day PAST
i think was maybe the last play of the scrimmaging
WHERE i think it Was saunders right that threw the
ball and got deflected And quiztenberry still found a way
to catch it right inside the pylon in the front
of the end.

Speaker 5 (29:11):
Zone, yeah and you know he had this last. Play
BUT i think one of the bigger stars WAS Dj
miller throughout spring practice just kind of what you were
hearing from other players about and what he showed at
the open practice would sound like or looked like he
was going to be a guy that could really help
him and he was a big recruiting win for them
out Of Saint. Louis it came down to them In

(29:31):
Old miss right down to the. Wire kentucky ends up
being able to hold onto him and get him, signed
and he's looking like a guy that's going to play
for them this. Year then as, Expected Mac Lanning alabama
Transfer Kendrick law were kind of the top, two top
two guys there at wide. Receiver but do not be
surprised if you SEE Dj miller number seven having a

(29:53):
role in this offense once the games.

Speaker 1 (29:54):
BEGIN i would think the current climate that we're in
an il park of it, is you, know as far
as try to keep the guys that you have and,
uh you know the nil angle to, it and sometimes
you uh and Maybe kentucky got into a little bit of.
This you let guys, uh you, know kind of cut
a few more corners than you know you should.

Speaker 3 (30:15):
That kind of.

Speaker 1 (30:16):
Thing but the other side of this too is if
you get a if you win a recruiting battle like.
That these, days you, know it's, uh it's hard to
uh you, know develop a guy so to, speak and
kind of you, know bringing him along, slowly, right if
he can help you at, all you need to utilize
him so you can keep.

Speaker 5 (30:32):
Him, yeah it definitely has a feel right now of
you're building one year, teams so you've got to do
whatever it takes for that team to be as good
as possible and if that means some shortcuts and player,
evaluation that's probably something you do because who's to even
say they're going to be on to your team next.
Year they could want to move on for whatever. Reason,

(30:54):
yeah and so that's something you have to. Consider and
that's WHY i think you're seeing a lot of Coaches
i'm just and true, freshmen even Like Mark stoops And
kentucky have burned redshirts THAT i don't think they would
have burned in the past just for on guys playing
special teams because you don't know if they're even gonna
be here or if you're gonna want to recruit someone over,
them right like in the portal that all that. Stuff

(31:17):
it's kind of unpredicted when it's so fluid that you
just gotta you just, gotta you, know you just need
to play these guys because getting them on the field
is probably gonna help probably some of the unhappiness would
come by if they're not playing at. All so even
having them playing at all maybe something in your favor
when when it comes to those those decision making things

(31:38):
that they have to get through once once the season's, in.

Speaker 1 (31:41):
Any insight or intel on how the True edward's case
will play out the wide receiver From La.

Speaker 5 (31:46):
Tech, yeah to my, understanding he hits every checkpoint of
the kind of document they released said you have to do, this,
this and this to be. Cleared now with this junior college,
ruling this is only gonna be a one time. Thing
it looks like they're The ndgate is trying this to
be a one time. Thing it's an exception to the,
rule and then they're gonna come back and make it illegal.

(32:10):
Somehow but you could not play if you're only year
in junior college was twenty, twenty THE covid. YEAR i
believe each year one. Eligible but Since edwards spent two
years in junior college nineteen and twenty played in, nineteen
that means he is he should be, eligible and they
should get him cleared and he should be on the

(32:30):
roster this summer and participate in fall. Camp but we
got to see them go ahead and get through that.
Clearance AND i think all this time is kind of
tied up with the, settlement getting that done, first and
then they'll probably move on to that shortly after that gets,
settled until hopefully here in the next month month and
a half get official word on that and That kentucky

(32:51):
should Have True edwards on their.

Speaker 1 (32:52):
Roster, well that's, good and good luck to THE ncaa
on setting that policy after they've already done. Exemptions their
record court is only slightly worse than the guy that
used to go up Against Perry. Mason every, episode.

Speaker 5 (33:07):
The losses are stacking.

Speaker 1 (33:08):
Up tom's Long, yeah they are, Uh, nico, Yeah Molly.
Ava AND i really hate to see him move on From.
Tennessee only for one, reason, uh is THAT i had
nailed his pronunciation BECAUSE i figured out It's eyah and
then two girls', Names molly And. Ava and now he's
gonna be gone somewhere else And kentucky won't be playing,

(33:30):
him which, probably you, know maybe he Hurts tennessee and
that's good For. Kentucky but, anyway what you're, taking, HELL i.

Speaker 5 (33:37):
Feel bad For.

Speaker 6 (33:38):
Tom Mike keith just got that job New tennessee play
by play. Guy he's probably spent two weeks trying to
get that name before the spring, game and the week
of the spring game he's not even. There somebody drill
this Name he's gonna say a million times this, year
and now it's. Out now it's out the.

Speaker 1 (33:57):
WINDOW i spent the whole week last year trying to
get the thing uh, Settled and, yeah now they'll recruit
Named jones Or smith to be the. Quarterback you, know
it's it's a, uh it's something that was probably, inevitable,
right something like this was gonna.

Speaker 5 (34:12):
Happen, yeah you figured it was. Time and now reports
are coming out that maybe like his, chimp wanted to
maybe hold out in the playoffs time to give them
the most. LEVERAGE a lot of this stuff is what's
going on behind, scenes just wanted just got got a
little publicized In tennessee kind of pretty much what's supposed
like to. Be tennessee kind of called the bluff and,

(34:33):
said we'll see if you actually do enter the portal
at this, stage and they went ahead and did.

Speaker 1 (34:37):
It, well, good that's say good For, tennessee you, know
because you, know if you're going to be held, hostage
be held hostage for you, Know Joe burrow as a, transfer,
uh not for you, know Nico Io. Malaieva, yeah and.

Speaker 5 (34:54):
This is supposed to be how how our market works
based on supply and. Demand we believe you're worth this dollar,
OUT i Believe i'm more of. This well then you
can go and try to get it somewhere, else but
we're paying this. Much and that's just kind of the
how it's set up. Now the problem is that we
have unlimited free agency that never. Ends so there's not

(35:15):
a window of a small window of time where we
could get through all. This it's just, unending and so
we've set it up where where they have the. Power
the players just you, know you can't fault the, players
but they just have too much power in. This it
feels like the schools and the programs have no power
at all when it comes to these. Decisions and that's
PROBABLY i think college football and college sports at large,

(35:37):
ESPECIALLY i think the big ones with these big, deals
that's the biggest that their biggest issue because they just
DON'T i, mean it's it's whatever you want to. Do
the players kind of have all the power and the
schools and programs can get pushed around a little bit
at the negotiation, table WHERE i Think tennessee here kind
of stood their ground and that was the result and

(35:57):
they're moving on without.

Speaker 1 (35:58):
Him and you, know to be, fair players needed to
pendulum to in their direction to some. Degree to a large, degree,
yes probably not as far as it.

Speaker 5 (36:07):
Has, yeah there's no like guardrails is THE i think
the most popular word with. This there's no guardrails and
THAT'S i think that's, perfect perfect. Case why people say
that because you could let something fester and create and
turn into that that they that they can come back
and negotiate multiple times is not how you should operate
in this kind of.

Speaker 1 (36:27):
System At Adam, LUCKETT ksr right ON x that is
correct and read them at on three sports AND ksr
for great coverage Of kentucky. Football as all of this plays,
out maybe a couple more additions in the transfer. Portal
Coach toops said that might be a possibility to try
to get a couple of guys for. Depth so a
lot to follow in the. Offseason, adam thank you.

Speaker 5 (36:48):
Much Thanks, tom.
