Speaker 1 (00:00):
God Day. Everybody. Welcome into another week of the Leech Report,
presented by Bobcat Enterprises, and hope you had a good weekend,
and if you were rooting for Kentucky football, I guess
it didn't get off to a good start for you
on Saturday, as the Wildcats fall at Georgia thirty five
to fourteen. And we are here to talk about that
(00:21):
on the Monday after a game, as we do with
our man Van Hiles, the former Wildcat dB, and he'll
be here for our shuffle being coffee Monday morning quarterback
edition of the Leach Report, and we'll work through the
Kentucky performance. It's an open week, open date this week
for the Wildcats on the schedule, so they will not
(00:42):
play again until a week from Saturday when they will
take on the Texas Longhorns and arch Manning who were
upset at Florida on Saturday. Most stunning upset was UCLA
or Penn State. We will talk with Van about the
Cats and cop football coming up here in just a bit.
First Wildcat news of the day. It is a service
(01:05):
of Juseppes of Lexington. Georgia came out scored on its
first two drives, and set the tone for the day.
Second one came after Kentucky had backed them up with
a great Ada la Ross punt to the four yard line.
They marched down ninety six yards and it was a
little strange in that Kentucky defended first downs pretty well
(01:29):
but could not get off the field on third downs.
It ended up being eight of eleven third down conversions
for the Dogs. The mistackles were an issue in three
sec games. Opponents have averaged almost ten yards per pass
attempt on Kentucky last two opponents, ten opportunities in the
(01:49):
red zone and eight touchdowns, and that's more than you
want in terms of opportunities in the red zone. But
if you can force a few field goals, you hang
around better. And Georgia was just very efficient in the
red zone and on third down on Saturday. So whether
it's you can credit the efficiency of the Dogs or
(02:10):
the problems for the Cats, whatever it is, it was
a big part of the win for Georgia at Kentucky,
on the other hand, missed a field goal in the
red zone right at the end of the first half.
They had the one play where there was confusion and
probably cost themselves an opportunity to get another shot at
the end zone, with one more shot at the end
(02:31):
zone than they ultimately had, but they was still in
position to come out of three points, and they missed
a chip shot field goal, first miss of the season
for Jacob Cowway. And then Kentucky had another red zone
opportunity where it threw a fourth down interception later in
the game, so the Cats came up empty and they're
a couple of those red zone opportunities. Cutter Bowley I thought,
(02:51):
had his best game. I know he played really well
in that second half at Texas, but the long Horns
were already way ahead, and in this game, you know,
deep into the second quarter, Kentucky was in a position
to get back to within one score, and Cutter was
playing very well all the way through. I thought, even
the incompletions where the ball was right where you would
(03:14):
want it to be, sometimes Georgia made good plays on
the ball or the Kentucky guy couldn't come up with
the catch. But it wasn't like it was poor throws.
Speaker 2 (03:23):
There was.
Speaker 1 (03:25):
Like at one point Cutter had missed two passes and
one of them was a breakup where the ball was
on the on the money and the other one was
a spike on the on the two minute drills. So
he was really sharp with his throws. I thought probably
his best game from a decision making standpoint. They did
some things to give him a little help in terms
of protection, moving the pocket some. He said he was
(03:47):
really comfortable with the game plan in terms of how
they attacked, more intermediate throws used. The running back morning
ex seth McGowan had three catches and they found maybe
a future star at wide receiver in the fourth quarter
in freshman Cam Miller. We'll talk about that with Van
when he joins us here shortly. A couple of other things.
(04:08):
The Athletic is out with a story on UK football,
only there's anything in there that you didn't already know
as a Wildcat fan living here. It's new content maybe
for people that are outside the BBN. A lot of
talk about, obviously the contract situation for Mark Stoops and
what that looks like and where Kentucky is going at
(04:30):
the moment. Media day for Kentucky men's basketball today, so
we'll have a lot of content from that from Coach
Pope's talk. Kenny Brooks also talking to the media today
and then UK players later today. As well, and Big
Blue Madness is coming up on Saturday night. With no
football game this weekend, they've moved that to Saturday. And
(04:51):
Caleb Holt has been added to the visit list. He
took an official earlier, but it'll be an unofficial return
to Lexington. He's a six' five, guard top five the
class of twenty twenty six and this was a surprise.
CHANGE i think he was scheduled to maybe be At
auburn and then changed his mind after the coaching changed.
There and it's gonna come back To kentucky For Big
(05:13):
Blue madness On. Saturday links to the stories that we
talk about each, day you can find those on the
Bud Light Leach report page At tim leachky dot. Com
we'll get to a break when we come. Back Van
heiles joins the. Program it is The Leech. Report in
our opening segments presented By giuseppes Of. Lexington we Had
giuseppes one day last. Week had my favor the. Lasagna
(05:33):
it was, fantastic as, always all their pastas. Homemade the
steaks are handcut right there on. Site the ship in
the seafood fresh day in and day. Out a lot
of local ingredients for the sides At, giuseppe so a
real commitment to excellence with the food and then the
ambiance is just off the, charts especially if you sit
in the lounge area listen To Dave hall's live jazz
music to a, company your meal really special for any
(05:56):
special occasion or just a great night. Out It's giuseppes.
Here lexington will be right back on the Lead Report
Radio network quarter. Past the top of the hourly report
comes to you from The Clark's Pumping shop. Studio, Return
refresh and. Refuel it's our shuffle being Coffee monday, morning
quarterback edition of the, program and that Means Van hiles is,
(06:18):
here the Former wildcat AND nfldb to break Down kentucky's
thirty five to fourteen loss down At. Georgia and the
analysis is up through the cutups That van does and
you can see the posts of those AT V style
seventeen ON x And van this was a day that
was for the guys on your side of the, ball
(06:40):
the defensive, side a rough.
Speaker 3 (06:41):
Day oh, boy, yeah, yeah it. Was it definitely. WAS
i don't know how else to put.
Speaker 2 (06:51):
It it.
Speaker 3 (06:52):
Was it was a day OF i would say This
it was a day that you realize the difference between
high LEVEL sec talent and GOOD sec. Talent the the
inability to make tackles was was high on, display and
and that's a big problem on our. BEEFENSE i Guess
(07:15):
saturday was two days, ago is that we could not.
Speaker 1 (07:18):
Tackle coaches tend to say that when there are a
lot of, mistackles it is usually guys that are not
in the best position to make the. Tackle that's why
they're missing. Him is that what you're.
Speaker 2 (07:30):
Seeing it is a combination of a lot of.
Speaker 3 (07:34):
Things for one team is in this on this level
and definitely in this, conference making a one on one
tackle is almost. Impossible that the guys are so talented
on the other side of the, ball as Coach, smith you to,
say those guys on scholarship, two.
Speaker 2 (07:49):
They are their job is to not let you.
Speaker 3 (07:51):
Tackle so the the ability to make a one on
one tackles extremely difficult unless you play your leverage. Well
and that's something we didn't do. Great the entire game
is playing our. Leverage mistackles are gonna happen all the.
Time the thing is how you miss a. Tackle there
is a such thing as a good. Mistackle same. Thing
there's a such thing as a good. Interception we didn't
(08:13):
have a lot of good miss. Tackles and when you
miss a, tackle you miss it in the wrong, position
there's no one else, there and then that leads to
ten fifteen twenty yard.
Speaker 2 (08:21):
Runs so in.
Speaker 1 (08:23):
Terms of like what you're talking, about what could be
a good miss, tackle is that like a guy that
maybe is set the edge on the outside and at
least turned the play in and if he didn't make,
it he directs it to his help.
Speaker 3 (08:33):
Exactly OR i, mean you, know we we actually have
thirteen the.
Speaker 2 (08:39):
Defenders we have two.
Speaker 3 (08:40):
Sidelines, yeah and sometimes especially as a as a differs a,
back if you can force them to the, sideline they
have less room to.
Speaker 2 (08:47):
Move and those are the things you got to play your.
Speaker 3 (08:50):
Leverage it's hard for fans to understand it and players
sometimes is you have to know where your your teammates
are all the, time and where CAN i force a
guy IF i miss a? Tackle and that's something that
becomes you have to practice it and think about.
Speaker 1 (09:07):
It georgia on its first down runs really didn't accomplish
a lot in much of that. GAME i think that's
a speaks WELL i would think of What kentucky's doing
with its guys up, front the front three and their
defense for, four but exactly then after you know they
(09:29):
get them in, second you get them where you want
them in second you, know more than six, maybe and
they couldn't close the, door especially on third.
Speaker 3 (09:36):
Down, yeah, well and that's the it. Is i'm glad
you brought that up because it was a weird thing
THAT i. Noticed it is weird that you went on
first down and they consistently got in third and short
because if you're in third and two or, shorter third
and three is shorter you on, defense that's a disadvantage for.
Speaker 2 (09:58):
You for some one, reason we were horrible on second.
Speaker 3 (10:04):
Down and the crazy part about that is there's not
really a stat for second down defense status for first down.
Speaker 1 (10:11):
TURN i feel better. NOW i kind of was noticing
the same. THING i was, like nobody talks about second down,
defense and that seemed to be the worst thing For
kentucky On.
Speaker 3 (10:19):
Saturday it was definitely the worst and a lot of
those were miss, tackles a lot of those were miss.
Speaker 2 (10:27):
Assignments it wasn't they were just kills on second. Down
by their talent.
Speaker 3 (10:31):
Level we were hurting ourselves with miss tackles on screens
and miss tackles on big run, plays bad assignments on
big run.
Speaker 2 (10:41):
Plays that is what hurt.
Speaker 3 (10:42):
Us and they consistently got to third and five or
shorter after being in second and eight and. Longer it
was the weirdest thing THAT i. Saw i'm glad you said,
that because that was. Crazy how much we want on
FIRST i think they had lessing three yards a rush
on first, down which is winning on.
Speaker 1 (10:59):
Defense, yeah there were some strange stats as they gave
unfolded Because kentucky running the ball numbers looked bad And
georgia's got the number one run defense in the. League
But seth mcgallan averaged four yards of carry and it
wasn't like he, got you, know one fifty yard run
and then got to four. YARDS i mean he was
(11:20):
basically getting about four yards at least a, carry which
is on a first down run is what is kind
of the minimum bar you want to. Clear but they
couldn't couldn't, really they couldn't build on that.
Speaker 2 (11:34):
Success, well.
Speaker 3 (11:38):
When you get down fourteen to, zero, okay it takes
a running. Again we got that takes the running game.
Speaker 1 (11:44):
Up, yeah it's.
Speaker 3 (11:45):
True and the weird thing about it is he ripped
the old lad block well for the limited opportunities they.
HAD i, MEAN i Think stef had eleven. Carries here's the,
thing and this is we Don't i'm gonna say. This
i'm gonna start with so people don't don't come at.
Me we are not Beating. Georgia AND i said that
(12:05):
in the. Week we have zero percent chance of Beating.
Georgia but this game should have been much. Closer it's
fourteen to, seven and we get a pick if it
becomes fourteen to. Fourteen at least you feel better about this.
Game and we're in the. Game we have opportunities to
make this game. Closer we're not beating. Them we had
(12:27):
opportunity to make this game, closer which then we could
have exploited the run game even. More but since we
got down so, much it couldn't put points on the.
Board when you're down twenty one, seven we have to
pass the.
Speaker 2 (12:40):
Ball, no that's.
Speaker 1 (12:43):
All that's. Correct and when you're consistently in your opponents
consistently in third and three and third and, two you're
probably not going to be very good on third down.
Speaker 3 (12:52):
Defense, exactly and you're not gonna get off the field
like for, defense name of the, game get off the.
Speaker 2 (12:59):
Field offense still on the. Fields know as you.
Speaker 1 (13:01):
Can talking With Van, hiles it's The Shuffleling Coffee Monday
morning quarterback edition of The Leach. Report we'll be right.
Speaker 4 (13:07):
Back we just got to get off a second, down you, know, miscommunications,
Misfits we just you, know just too many, misalignments too
many no m AS i like to call. It you,
know we gotta do. BETTER i gotta play better as a.
Senior we just got to do better as a.
Speaker 1 (13:23):
Defense jordan Love it from The Kentucky secondary had to
pick eighth one of his career On, saturday and He
Van hiles talked about the second down issue for The kentucky,
defense and, it's, uh you, know when you're talking about miss, alignment,
miscommunication all those kinds of. Things that's they have fewer
(13:45):
new guys on the defensive. Side so that's, Frustrating i'm
sure for their.
Speaker 2 (13:50):
Coaches, yeah it starts with. Alignment.
Speaker 3 (13:55):
Assignment the second thing is a quiet secondary is a beat,
secondary and you have to communicate in the backfield so
everybody knows what they, do even if it's the wrong.
Call as long as everybody's running the same, thing we're.
Fine there is a there's a thing when on, defense
when the offense is not, clicking layers start thinking that
(14:18):
they have to make, plays which means they're gonna do
something outside the framework or the.
Speaker 2 (14:23):
Scheme and that's something you can't do as a.
Speaker 3 (14:26):
Defense you got to you gotta trust the, process trust
the offense gonna get, going or now you're gonna give
a big.
Speaker 2 (14:32):
Place and that's what we.
Speaker 1 (14:34):
Did, yeah that makes sense because you, think, well you,
know IF i can go get a sack, here or
force a, fumble force a get an, interception that can
help out our. Offense and last, YEAR i think there
WAS i can't remember who it. Was recently was on
the show was talking. ABOUT i think it Was Christian
story had an interception At. Florida it looked like he
was gonna run back for a. Touchdown he ran it
(14:54):
back to about the ten yard line and Then kentucky
couldn't get points out of that and seem to deflate the.
Defense and those things do, happen, yes.
Speaker 2 (15:06):
And you do your.
Speaker 3 (15:09):
Job and that's the great thing about playing in college
is a lot of high school kids have to play both, ways.
Speaker 2 (15:15):
And in college you're playing one. Way do your.
Speaker 3 (15:18):
Job if you do your job and you want to
get to the next, level that's how you get to
the next.
Speaker 2 (15:23):
Level it's executing all all.
Speaker 3 (15:25):
Plays they just have to understand that THE nfl gms
are looking at your bad place more than your good.
Place so you got to minimize those plays where you're
doing something that is not in the framework of the
scheme that some people have to think about. It you
don't know that until you get to THE. Nfl SO i
am giving you this information for.
Speaker 2 (15:44):
Free, yeah.
Speaker 3 (15:48):
Rooms, exactly they, ARE i promise you on this level
of your in the your PERSPECTIVE nfl, player they know
you're gonna have a good.
Speaker 2 (15:58):
Place they want.
Speaker 1 (16:00):
To see they wouldn't be looking at you to place exactly.
Speaker 2 (16:04):
Exactly so do your.
Speaker 1 (16:06):
Job, yeah that is obviously the message that has got
to get. Through and it's it's obviously it's it's not
guys that are. It they want to do it right
and help their team get. Better but when you try
(16:27):
to do something yourself without being in the context of
kind of the, system that's when you get, hurt right.
Speaker 3 (16:35):
Exactly AND i would say, this this IS i always
try to take a positive away from a. Game the
one THING i can say about this team this year
is that they are not giving up like they are
straining the entire. GAME i don't want to talk about last,
year But i'll say. This if this was last, year
Team georgia puts up forty nine points Because georgie had
(16:56):
an opportunity to put on more.
Speaker 2 (16:57):
Points you can.
Speaker 1 (16:59):
Take you about all that stop down in the red zone.
Speaker 3 (17:02):
Exactly and we got to pick. Right george didn't pull
off the dolls as far as to play call. With
they were still pass From paul with three or four
minutes left in the. Game, oh he's got continue to
play for each other. Effort that's the one THING i
can say defensively that was. Positive an offense court some points,
(17:22):
late so they were still. TRYING i would say that
this team is is haven't given up. YET i would
say that for.
Speaker 1 (17:29):
Sure We're Tabler Van. Hiles that's our shuffle Being Cofee
monday morning quarterback edition to The Leach, report and we're halfway,
home so we'll hit the hard break at the bottom
of the, hour and uh talk about a little bit
of the offensive side of the ball and talk About
Cutter bowlie and a promising young. Receiver when we come,
back it is The Leach report presented By Bobcat enterprises
(17:50):
for locations Around. Kentucky For Bobcat google then when you
need to buy or rent heavy equipment and they'll have
it and give you a fantastic service after the sale as.
Well At Bobcat, Enterprises we'll be right.
Speaker 5 (18:02):
BACK i really like the way he called it today
AND i FELT i was really comfortable with everything we were.
RUNNING i think we got into a flow better than
we had been in the, past but there's just more
steps we gotta.
Speaker 1 (18:13):
Take got a Bally after the game At georgia On,
saturday we are chatting With Van. Hiles our shuffle Being
coffee And Bunday Morning quarterback edition of The Leech. Report
you can Follow van at V style seventeen on x
and you'll see his see there his breakdown of snippets
of tape from the game and what went wrong or
(18:36):
why something. Worked and also you can hear him and
Former Wildcat Anthony white on The Locker wednesday nights at
nine Correct.
Speaker 2 (18:44):
Van nampi On Eastern Standard time.
Speaker 1 (18:49):
And YouTube and all the other podcast platforms and just
a couple of nice young men speaking respect respectfully to each,
other finding the occasional misplay or something to suggest they'll do.
Speaker 3 (19:07):
Better, YES i would say, this to put it, lightly
we are not governed BY.
Speaker 2 (19:13):
Fcc so there's a reason why.
Speaker 1 (19:16):
Let's talk about the offensive side And cutter. BOWLING i
know this was his best. GAME i know he played
well in that second half Of, texas but The longhorns
had already taken control of the. Game cutter threw the ball,
well made good, decisions he talked about he liked the
game plan and some of the things they did to
give him the types of throws that worked so. Well
what did you?
Speaker 2 (19:36):
See, YEAH i, SAW i would say.
Speaker 3 (19:41):
THIS i saw him get the ball to places AND
i don't know there was an emphasis on giving the
ball to the runner. Back he checked down the ball
better than he did last. Week, now my only thing
is there were some balls THAT i Thought cutter would
unleash deeper balls BECAUSE i thought he was the guy
who's gonna who's gonna push the ball down the. Field
(20:03):
there was some, opportunity opportunity that we had pushed down
ball down the field THAT i think we missed out.
Speaker 2 (20:08):
On but for a.
Speaker 3 (20:09):
Guy WHO i, MEAN i don't, KNOW i can't. REMEMBER
i think this is his best completion percentage two all
the games he has.
Speaker 1 (20:16):
Started, YEAH i think you're right because that these, DAYS i,
mean he'd been basically around and ankle was maybe at
right at fifty percent going into uh this, game and
these days a, quarterback what should they what should their
completion rate?
Speaker 2 (20:30):
Be probably over sixty five on? Average definitely over. Sixty.
Speaker 1 (20:37):
Uh he had seventy one percent last, year but that
was Against Burray, State so against THE fbs level, team
sixty one percent is the. Best, yes he had had
twelve to twenty one Against Eastern michigan fifty seven, percent
fifty three percent Against South carolina twenty five of forty
one for two to twenty.
Speaker 2 (20:56):
Five.
Speaker 1 (20:57):
Uh the one interception was one where, yeah you know
they had to throw. It, yeah, exactly it's fourth downy
and uh so sixty a couple of. Touchdowns but to your,
point five point five yards per, attempt which was the
lowest figures had other than The loyal.
Speaker 3 (21:15):
Game so for him to get to that level throwing
it that many times was an.
Speaker 2 (21:21):
Improvement the bad put.
Speaker 3 (21:23):
About and this is WHAT i don't like about anybody
saying anything About cutter is that he has been thrown
to the fire without any extinguisher because of the last year's.
Season if we don't go four and eight last, year
it gives him time to. Develop see now after the
(21:43):
last season he's got he he has to develop quicker
because of the. Expectations and that's unfortunate for a young.
Guy is he's. Expected what attin', say we were expecting
wins and for us to have, wins it lies on
the should of the quarterback and he has got to
get us to twenty plus, points period his fault or.
(22:05):
Not this, offense it's got to score twenty plus points
us to WIN sec, games and we got to find
a way to get.
Speaker 2 (22:11):
There.
Speaker 1 (22:12):
YEAH i was talking To Mike hartline last, week who
is on the staff, now is an offensive quality control
coach and he's working with the. Quarterbacks AND i went
back and Looked mike actually was a two year understudy
To Andre, woodson so he Watched andre at his best
for two. Years Then mike takes over in eight and
(22:34):
he had struggles even with the two years of watching
and lost the starting. Job got it back After Randall
cobb got hurt and ended up being the mop on
offense in The Liberty, bowl and then the next year
was on. TARGET i think to have a tremendous year
when he got hurt and then had a great final.
Year and we've talked that he's very underrated Among kentucky.
(22:55):
Quarterbacks but you know there's a guy that had two
years says the, understudy and then his one year's first
year as a starter still had some ups and.
Speaker 3 (23:05):
DOWNS i don't think it's not talked about. Enough is
even though you might know the scheme on, paper when
you have sec talent defensive, linemen corners and secondary and
fast linebackers and you playing live action, football it's totally.
(23:28):
Different that the pace of play is. Incredible the best
thing that happened to me was playing as a freshman
when it takes time for these guys to get accustomed
to the speed of the game because windows, close quicker
guys are, open they're not, open and you have to
for a, quarterback you have to believe that your guy's
(23:50):
gonna be there because if you wait a beat, longer
he's gonna be. Covered so you gotta throw the ball
with anticipation that he's gonna run himself, Open i'm gonna
throw throw him. Open and sometimes as a quarterback or young,
quarterback not Just, cutter Ars manning is having the same.
Issue it's a time and. Game you gotta throw the
(24:10):
ball on, time and we got to get better at.
Speaker 1 (24:12):
That you, see did you see some progress in that
particular area For cutter On?
Speaker 3 (24:16):
Saturday, yeah as a game Progress he started trusting things
a little bit. More and that's a comfort level not
only with the system but also with your players because
it's like A. dB i can speak from A. dB
two things dbs can't worry. About it's missing tackles and
getting beat. Deep one thing a quarterback cannot worry about
is throwing. Interceptions LIKE i Think couch through five interceptions
(24:39):
in one. Game yeah, right IF i guarantee you for
a normal quarterback after he throws, too it's, like, eh
But couch that he was so comfortable within himself that
he kept pushing the. Issue that's something as a quarterback
you cannot be afraid. Of you gotta trust that your
receiver is run the right route and throw the ball
(25:02):
to the. Spot and sometimes you're gonna throw four. Picks
it's gonna.
Speaker 1 (25:07):
Happen that's Similar Tim tim played, basketball was a great
basketball player. Too to what you'll hear basketball players say
you if they miss if they miss ten, shots they
think they're gonna hit the next, ten and by, numbers
they have good reason to believe.
Speaker 2 (25:22):
That you know a good.
Speaker 1 (25:22):
Shooter you're shooting fifty, percent so if you miss, ten,
well the next ten are going to go in to
get to fifty.
Speaker 2 (25:27):
Percent my basketball coach told ME i was a.
Speaker 3 (25:30):
Shooter law of, averages the law of, averages it's gonna
come into a. Fact so don't stop. Shooting you gotta keep. Shooting, so, yes,
exactly you gotta keep pushing the. Envelope as a, quarterback
now you. Can't and here's the. Thing other thing about
quarterbacks is you also got to know the. Situation, now
there's certain. Situations if you're back on your minus ten yard, Line,
(25:51):
okay pushing the envelope might not be the right thing
because now you give their offense if you throw interception
or short. Field but if you're on your se if
you in the green zone four to forty and you
see something you think it's gonna be, open push the.
Envelope let's let's make that defense make a great.
Speaker 1 (26:09):
Play we'll talk more about. That we come back With
Van heiles shuffle being Cofee Monday Morning quarterback edition of
The Leach, report coming to you from The Clark's Pumping shop.
Studio return, refreshed refuewal At clark's will be right. Back
that's Cutter bowlie and he's talking about freshman white Out Cameron,
miller who got his chance to play in the fourth. Quarter.
(26:30):
UH i always Say, van if the if the known
is not good enough for, you then that makes the
unknown more. Attractive And Cam miller looked awfully good in
that fourth quarter On. Saturday got tardy three, times made three,
catches and it wasn't like it was just a little
(26:51):
you know that running in front of the, quarterback catch
the pitch ahead Catch these give me a couple of
tough catches back two on fourth.
Speaker 3 (26:58):
Down, yeah the out route was was an example of
potentially the. Future, yeah there was a ball thrown from
the opposite hash to the, numbers thrown. Perfectly it had
to be elevated a little bit so you can give
your guy a. Shot because of the thrown, lower THE
dB probably fix it or knocks. It, down you do it,
(27:19):
high allow your receiver to make a. Play the receiver
guid up to make that was that to me was
the best catch because that was under the rest for
for the.
Speaker 2 (27:29):
Receiver great, catch great. Throw that could be the.
Speaker 3 (27:33):
Future there's a chance Once look, this this is the thing,
is once you have a chance as a player to
to show your skill, set you have to make the
most of. It and now the buzz is. Apropos let's
see if he can continue.
Speaker 1 (27:48):
It, yeah well you think you, know you go, back
you into your staff, meetings you're, like, okay we get
this guy more opportunities because you know he obviously in.
Practice well why wasn't he out there. Earlier, well he
wasn't showing them enough in. Practice that's all they can go, on,
exactly and until they have. Games and if somebody's performing
(28:11):
better in, practice you understand why they get the. Opportunity
but then if the games come and you don't get
what you, need then you take it again the. Unknown
you take a, Look, okay the this other. Guy you,
know he's had his moments in. Practice let's give him
a shot in the. Game see if he takes advantage
of the. Opportunity, okay look he, did he got, open
he caught the. Ball, Uh now we got to give
him more.
Speaker 3 (28:31):
Opportunities that's that's the hardest thing for young guys to, understand.
Speaker 2 (28:36):
AND i guess old skoo coaches really going on the.
Line here's the.
Speaker 3 (28:42):
Thing gamers will not be a chance to show their
gamers unless they're doing in. Practice and that's the. Whole
that's a hard thing about young guys getting to this.
Level if they, believe, Oh i'll showed it in, games, well
everybody on the team that is showing the, games you
wouldn't be she wouldn't show on this team if they
haven't showing a. Game you got to execute practice and
(29:02):
he's got to DO i don't know if that's the.
Case if practice is the, problem he's got to carry
on this success From saturday Into mondays Through. Friday if
he can do, that it's obviously the skill set is.
There now we got to show it every. Day that's a.
Whole consistency is.
Speaker 2 (29:19):
The name of the. Game he will get playing time
if he's.
Speaker 1 (29:22):
Consistent we were talking About Andre woodson. Earlier he Had
Keenan burton And Stevie johnson And Dicky Lyons junior And
Jacob tammy is his tight end and he did a
great job of giving those guys opportunities to make, plays
which they, did which gave him the up the confidence
to help them make plays and throw balls up to
(29:47):
give them a you, know having confidence in them to
win the. Catch that's if you're you, know cutting quite,
frankly you haven't had a lot of. That so you
see that In Camp, miller and that's why you Hear,
CUTTER i guess talking about him the way that he.
Did you, uh you are gonna have more confidence in that,
guy aren't.
Speaker 2 (30:06):
You.
Speaker 3 (30:09):
Yeah and here's the here's the interesting. Part cutter has
more confidence in the tight ends and that is.
Speaker 2 (30:14):
Obvious and it showed that he has more Trusting.
Speaker 3 (30:20):
Cam And i'm gonna say the reason why he probably
has more Trusting cam is because he was throwing with
Number two's All camp good, point and that relationship was probably.
Developed he doesn't have a relationship With macklin And ferrier
and those guys, yet but he definitely has one With
cam and the two tight. ENDS i think that is
something you also have to look. Into i'm not sure
(30:42):
he and not in a bad. Way i'm not sure
he trusts some of the outside guys as. Much he
trusts tight.
Speaker 1 (30:48):
Ends and he also in addition to you, know throw
into the tight ends and you, know, uh tight, ends
you don't have as many of, them so you tend
to they'll be skid some of the reps with the
twos as. Well, uh but there's to them happened to
be his. Roommates so you, KNOW i think work in
the backyards on on.
Speaker 2 (31:06):
THROWS i did not know. That, yeah that's.
Speaker 1 (31:09):
Interesting Caddison willie are his. Roommates, yeah so smart.
Speaker 3 (31:15):
GUYS i don't think people understand. It if As Tim,
klech who his roommate, was it'll be interesting when you find,
out do you know the?
Speaker 2 (31:30):
Answer, Yes Kevin. Coleman Kevin coleman got they got a
lot of.
Speaker 3 (31:36):
Balls, yeah, Yeah Craig, east what ye, Had Craig, Yeast
Craig Anson white quitting them accord on the. Team But
Kevin coleman got a lot of target and you relationship
is for.
Speaker 1 (31:56):
Him it's something that it's the. Relationship, yeah you have a,
know a trust and again probably you've thrown the ball to,
him maybe more thannybody else because you're you, know let's
go out back and work on.
Speaker 2 (32:06):
This you, know, yeah more. Guys, yeah a smart, Man.
Speaker 1 (32:12):
Kevin there's somebody asked the research there's a player Named
Kevin coleman On Kevin Coleman junior on a team. SOMEWHERE
i need to look this up if it. HAPPENED i
don't know if it. IS i don't know if It's kevin's,
son but somebody asked.
Speaker 2 (32:25):
Me to find.
Speaker 1 (32:25):
OUT i didn't look it. Up we're talking Of Van.
Hiles it's our shuffle being Coffee monday Morning quarterback edition
of The Leach. Report don't forget you'd follow him AT
v styles seventeen of the the cutups that you've, DONE
i was At keenland all day, yesterday SO i didn't
get to look through all of. Them. Yet what's, was
what were the kind of the themes that you hit on
(32:46):
in your breakdowns that you did video?
Speaker 3 (32:49):
Wise, OH i really WISH i was in town or
an actors to Ask Coach. White we started more in
this game THAN i think we have it in its
entire career At. Kentucky and this is the weird thing
when you get a bye, week is you really start
getting to the minutia of, tendencies AND i would like
(33:12):
to know what was the tendency that dictated where they,
slanted because the run game a lot of times if
you look at the, game we got some TFLs at second,
down we got some loss for, yardists but then there
were some bigger plays and those big plays where.
Speaker 2 (33:29):
They were running away from the.
Speaker 3 (33:30):
Slant AND i want to know why we slanted as
much as we did in this, game and we brought
five and six man pressures more in the first quarter
THAN i think we have done in any quarter.
Speaker 2 (33:41):
Ever we were totally aggressive in this.
Speaker 3 (33:45):
GAME i want to know what did he see in
film that dictated that that was the interesting thing THAT i.
Speaker 1 (33:51):
Saw maybe just could have been something as where they
just are trying to create more pressure just because they
were given plays and just try to take the fight
to the opponent.
Speaker 3 (34:02):
MORE i don't because it happened early like it wasn't an.
Adjustment it was in the game, plan and not exactly
that it was a negative. Thing it was in the
game plan like.
Speaker 1 (34:13):
A like an offense has scripted, plays that's kind of
part of the defensive script.
Speaker 3 (34:18):
Exactly that was very interesting to. Me it's the amount
of times we slanted and. Stunded so that's that's the
one THING i saw on film that WHEN i looked
At i'm, like. Man WHEN i was looking at, Live i'm, like,
man it seemed like we're slenning a.
Speaker 2 (34:33):
Lot i'm, like, NAH i might not be looking at it.
Right but then WHEN i looked at it, again like, yeah.
Speaker 1 (34:38):
Quick thought on THE ucla Ever Penn. State a few years,
Ago Appalachia state went in one at At. Michigan that
was one of the greatest upsets. Ever this, is, uh you,
know a big ten team beating another big ten, Team
but in terms of HOW ucla had been, playing that
was one of the biggest step sets we've seen in a,
while wasn't?
Speaker 2 (34:58):
It for? Sure and no excuses for. Anyone here's the.
Speaker 3 (35:06):
Deal for, me it's when you have to travel from
one time zone to the. Other there's three time, zones
it makes a. Difference PLUS ucla fired their. Coach the
players are not focused as much because they were down
what twenty something to zero. Quickly that's because they weren't
(35:29):
prepared in that flight across the. COUNTRY i think that
is totally unfair for a college team be on The
East coast have to travel from one coast to the.
Speaker 2 (35:38):
Next it's gonna be. Interesting and even though there's no,
excuse it's a.
Speaker 1 (35:41):
Factor it's gonna be interesting to see over time to
track that kind of you, know what are the numbers
look like for the teams going east to west or
west to. EAST i Know Mike pratt used to always
say when he did HIS ncaa tournament, bracket if a
team from The West coast is coming east and playing,
early pick against.
Speaker 3 (35:56):
Him, YES i mean That's, look that's AN nfl stat for.
Speaker 2 (36:01):
That it is. True we don't have to travel that.
Far with time, zones you. Plan if a team on
The west coast is driving the east and it's a noon,
game that's like nine am their.
Speaker 1 (36:13):
Turn, yeah it's a. Factor vanhile's always a. Pleasure have good.
Speaker 2 (36:18):
Week i'll. Try we're gonna get to a.
Speaker 1 (36:23):
