Speaker 1 (00:00):
Good day.

Speaker 2 (00:00):
Everybody, welcome in. It is the Leech Report, presented by
Bobcat Enterprises and glad to have you on board for
this Thursday. No football game this week. There is Big
Blue Madness coming up on Saturday night at Rapperina. Then
they'll have the BBN United Fan Fest leading up to

(00:21):
it during the day. I think that starts around noon,
so that should be a fun day for the Kentucky fans.
Today we're to talk about some fun moments for Kentucky
fans at rapp Arena. This year is the fiftieth season
of Kentucky men's basketball in rupp Aerna and Corey Price
our stat guru for the UK Football Network. He has

(00:46):
penned an article for the UK Sports Networks preseason yearbook
about some of the top wins in the history of Rapperina.
So we'll talk about that and talk about some Rapperina
history and flashback and things as we go all throughout
the season. Goose Givens will join us and we'll get
his take on the UK Pro Day. He worked the

(01:07):
coverage of that with Dick Gabriel, who we talked with yesterday,
and then Justin Rowland from Cats Illustrated Wildcat News of
the days of service of Giuseppies of Lexington. We'll start
with volleyball. I watched most of this tuned in after
Kentucky had lost the first set at number nine Texas
A and M, and Kentucky came back to win the

(01:29):
next three and so they get three to one win
and the third ranked Wildcats now have a school record
third road win over a top ten opponent. Eva Hudson
had twenty four kills and eleven digs for a double double.
There were several reviews that were significant late in the
match that the biggest one flipped match point from Texas

(01:52):
A and M to Kentucky side. And then I think
it was a net violation on A and M on
the next sequence that gave Kentucky the victory. But it
was a tremendous challenge by coach Skinner because on the
TV coverage they were talking about, well, maybe he's just
doing this to kind of steal a time out and
he doesn't really think there's much to this. Well, it

(02:13):
turned out they finally found an angle. After they talked
about this for a couple of minutes, they found an
angle that they showed and then they go, oh wait,
she did touch the net, and so that's what the
officials saw as well and overturned the point for a
and m gave it to Kentucky and the Wildcats come
out of there with a win. So impressive performance in

(02:34):
a season full of those for coach Skinner in company
last night. And now they'll go down and play at
LSU and continue this long road swing. That'll be on
Sunday at one and it'll be televised by ESPN. Mark
Stoops did a media session yesterday, did the SEC teleconference
earlier in the day, and then talked to the local
media after practice said he's optimistic that they'll have Seth

(02:56):
McGowan running back and DJ Waller at dB for the
Texas game a week from Saturday, when the Wildcats come
off the open date. Seth got dinged up in the
South Carolina game, came back and was playing well down
at Georgia and then reaggravated the injury and so he
didn't play in the fourth quarter. May have gone out
even a little earlier. And Dj Waller's been out since

(03:21):
the first game. He had an injury issue in training camp,
then was able to play in the first game, then
got injured in the game, I think with some type
of leg injury, and so he has not been able
to make it back since. But his return would be
a big plus because they said he was playing as
well as anybody on the defense leading up to the season,

(03:44):
and right now, one of the areas where Kentucky is
struggling is out of the perimeter, particularly with the tackling.
A lot of the mistackles are coming on the outside,
and if Waller could help them shore that up with
a more experienced guy there, it would be a big plus.
And Mark Stoops talked a little bit about that issue

(04:06):
trying to improve the tackling yesterday and what they're trying
to do to get that done as just some fundamental issues,
it sounds like, really and the fact that probably we
certainly underestimated the impact of the loss of a guy
like Xion Schilders who's playing in the NFL now as
he was. Kentucky's nickel last year was really good against
the run, and the Wildcats are also using the open

(04:28):
date to get a more extended look at some youngsters,
according to coach Stops, like freshmen white Out, DJ Miller,
highly touted signee and he got a minor injury in
training camp, but it threw off his development picking up
the new offense. And now they've had a couple of
open dates and when they have those they can give

(04:48):
extra reps to the new guys. And so you saw
guys like cam Miller and CJ. Works emerge with big
plays down at Georgia. So maybe Miller's a guy that
DJ Miller along with cam Miller could help them some
in that receiving corps because the veteran guys, nobody has
really stepped up and separated from the pack. So it

(05:08):
gives an opportunity for one of the younger guys to
make a statement like cam Miller did in the last game.
And a little bad news on the commitment front. As
a twenty twenty six O line commit from Georgia, Tyreek
Jemison has decommitted from Kentucky. Now they can always flip
him back, that's been done before, but for now that

(05:29):
is a tough loss in the offensive line recruitment area.
Links to the stories that we talk about each day,
you can find them on the Bud Light Leach Report
page at Tom leachky dot com. When we come back,
Corey Price to join the program. It's the Leech Report
and our opening segment is always presented by Giuseppes of Lexington.
Keeland is continuing through the end of the month and

(05:52):
you might have a chance to get in for sepees
after a day at Keeland. Get to open tables, see
if you can find a slot where you can get
a fantastic Giuseppe's meal after a fantastic day at the races,
or do it around a UK sporting event or some
other special occasion, or just when you're hungry, because the
food is great and the ambiance is equal to the

(06:12):
quality of the meal at Giuseppes of Lexington. We'll be
right back sixteen past the top of the hourly report
coming to you from the Clarks Pumpin' Shop studio. Return,
refresh and refuel at Clark's. Corey Price joins us. You
hear us refer to him on their UK football broadcasts
for the work he does on finding all the incredible

(06:35):
stat nuggets over the course of a UK broadcast, and
he helps me by tracking all the key stats, the
third downs and all such things. And don't have to
look at the monitor, because we have our own human
monitor who's better and faster. And Corey also is an
excellent writer, and he has done a story for the

(06:56):
UK Sports Networks preseason basketball yearbook about the rap Aerna
and this year they're celebrating the fiftieth season of Kentucky
men's basketball. There going through some boxes Corey cleaning out
the office this summer, I found a program I need
to give to Goose because it's from the first SEC

(07:16):
game in Ruperena that I guess I attended when Kentucky played.
The very first game was against Wisconsin in November of
nineteen seventy six and in the seventy six seventy seven season.
But did what was this like for you? Putting this together?
As a UK fan that I guess? What is it?

(07:36):
The top twenty games in rup Aerina.

Speaker 3 (07:40):
Yes, Tom, thanks agin for having your show. Yeah, I
decided to do a top twenty list. It was a
labor of love, like the piece I did for the
football yearbooks. It was pretty difficult to narrow down to
twenty wins because obviously, with the history of the program
that we have, we've had our fair share of great

(08:02):
games and great wins at home over the last forty
nine seasons. But it was awesome. I did a lot
of great, great research, and I think I have a
pretty pretty good list.

Speaker 2 (08:15):
There have been great SEC games there. I think about
the LSU game when they had Chris Jackson and Jaquille
o' neal, Stanley Roberts and Rick Patito's team beat them.
I guess it was in Rick's first year. Wasn't it
one of the loudest moments in rupp Arena. There's Tayshaun

(08:36):
Prince hitting the five straight threes. I'm sure those two
are on your list when as you were doing this research,
there's something that people are readily going to identify, like
the two I just mentioned. What were some of the
ones that maybe you found. Oh I'd forgotten about that
one or that one. Doesn't get enough credit for the
significance that kind of stuff.

Speaker 3 (08:57):
Well, first, I don't want to put a damper on
I mean thing, but the game where Tayshawn hit five
straight threes is not on the list because in my
opinion that that's a great moment, But the game itself,
I wouldn't say it's top twenty because at the time
nor North Care North Caroline wasn't almost a great team,
so that's why I didn't have it as a great win.

Speaker 2 (09:19):
You know, that's a good point because you have it's
two different ways of looking at that. A great game
versus a memorable moment could be a you know, a
I don't know. There was some incredible plays, that's you know,
Tayshawn's threes was an example. But that's a good point,
so fair enough. But anyway, go ahead with the question.

Speaker 3 (09:38):
So I had a I had a baseline of what
I thought a great game was. So my first baseline
was if it was a top ten matchup and everyone
I figured that was a great win. If it was
a big upset, like if UK was unranked going into
the game and the point was like top five, top ten,

(10:00):
and I consider that a great wins. So those are
probably the two biggest based ones I had. I believe
almost all of them fall into into one of those two. Actually,
Oh and if we beat the descending uh or if
we beat the eventual national champion, and those were the

(10:22):
top three for me.

Speaker 2 (10:24):
Uh, that is the are these ranked like the twenty
just a list of twenty and just the list?

Speaker 4 (10:32):
Uh?

Speaker 3 (10:32):
It was hard enough to get get down to twenty.
The in my opinion, impossible to to rank them, so yeah,
it's just listed.

Speaker 2 (10:40):
I think I hope they do something like this with
with fans. I think some of this stuff could make
for a good uh fan project over the course of
this season to get fan input. The other thing is
and you might have a good story on this, We'll see.
I think you know, people have can always remember their
first car. I think people a lot of times have

(11:00):
great memories of the first time they went to rap Arena.
Maybe they went with a with a parent or buddies
or whatever. Do you have a story. Can you remember
your first REP game in RUP?

Speaker 3 (11:12):
I do? Uh. It was my my freshman year at UK.
Unfortunately I didn't have the chance to go to any
games prior to being a student, so that was my
freshman year. Was the two thousand and four two thousand
and five season. The first one game I want to
say was Campbell. I might get the score wrong, but

(11:33):
it was a great well, it was a pretty good year.
Obviously we lost in double overtime in the at least
eight so it was pretty close to it to an
awesome year. But yeah, I mean my my freshman year,
I have lots of memories. And also I may have
been to countless one since since then.

Speaker 2 (11:51):
Yeah, for a lot of time. A lot of people.
It may be from a time when they were students
at UK, right. I had. I have a good friend
that we were at the UK at the same time
in the early eighties and he and a group of
his buddies were committed to that. At that point, students
camped out to get access to the tickets that they

(12:12):
were committed to being in the front row for all
four years he was in school, and they achieved their goal.
They were there for every game they were early camping out.
What about it said you, you are a little younger
than me, so you're you're not going to go back
to as far to have seen some of these games.
So in terms of putting this list together, what were

(12:35):
some of the ones that were particularly interesting to you
to find out more about since you didn't live them
in the moment.

Speaker 3 (12:43):
Two that stuck out to me were the game against
LSU one. L had I think a twenty six game
winning streak, they had one loss all year. They were
trying to go unbeaten in Commons play. I think the
first time our team was trying to do that thing
since Alabama in the mid fifties, and of course we

(13:07):
played great obviously, I believe Sambo had had a key
block towards the end of that game.

Speaker 2 (13:13):
Yeah, I remember watching TV. Al maguire was doing the
game for NBC, and I remember him talking about the
crowd was actually he I think he used the word
scary in terms of how loud it was that day.
But go ahead. What was the other one?

Speaker 3 (13:30):
Another one? I wish cause basketball would do this more,
but they probably won't. But Super Bowl Sunday at nineteen
eighty four the top five matter between Kentucky and Houston.
Of course Houston had Drexler and a Keema lajahwan Uk
had you know, the Twin Towers. As a great, great matchup,

(13:52):
the game was well well played and after the Cats
came out on top. So those are probably the two
before I was born that probably stick out the most
to me.

Speaker 2 (14:02):
Yeah, this is a little hard for us in this
part of the world to really wrap our arms around.
But people talking about the Super Bowl six hours before
the Super Bowl draws better ratings and sponsorship dollars than
a live college basketball game. So that's probably I guess
why that's not going to come back anytime soon. But

(14:25):
I'm with you, those were great games to have on
There was a Kentucky and Arkansas played one or two
times in that situation. It was great to have a
big college basketball game earlier in the day. And you
know they'll have there'll be games on Super Bowl Sunday now,
but it just all tends to get dwarfed by the
Super Bowl pregame. But that's that's an excellent choice. Good

(14:47):
for you to put that one on the list, if
you had to put one at the top. Do you
have a favorite?

Speaker 3 (14:55):
Well, a favorite for me, I'm biased, So it's going
to be the time that I was students my senior year.
She was the two thousand and seven to the two
thousand and eight season. We were not that good. We
Tennessey came into Rep. They were ranked number three. I
believe you can. I believe I had a seven to

(15:16):
nine record going in and we upset the balls, So
obviously it's always a great day we'd beat Tennessee. And
added fact that you know on paper, it you know,
wasn't going wasn't supposed to be a close matchup, and
and it being my senior year, I think all all
that adds up to being a very important win for

(15:36):
me at least, Corey.

Speaker 2 (15:39):
We'll let you go. Appreciate you jumping on with us
to talk about this. Fans can find the UH find
this story in the UK Sports Network the JMI Sports
Kentucky yearbook that is available now and UH A nice
job on the story and thank you for joining us
to talk about it. No problem, Tom, Corey Price, and

(16:01):
we're gonna get to a break come back with a
guy who played in some of the great games in
rep Aerna, the Goose Jack gibbings it's the lead report
Radio Network presented by Bob Kat Enterprises. But he passed
the top of the hour. We all come in and
they goes Jack Gibbons to the program. I want to
talk about pro Day here in a minute, Goose. But
we were just visiting with Corey Price about his story

(16:22):
on some of the memorable games for what is going
to be the fiftieth now the fiftieth season of Kentucky
men's basketball and rapp Aerna. As I said, you played
in some of them. One that I'm guessing is close
to your heart was your senior Day game against UNLV Right.

Speaker 4 (16:38):
Oh yes, oh yes, Tom that was for me, and
we had obviously a lot of great games in that
building on a couple of years where I played in there.
But for me, yes, at the UNLV game, they had
player Reggie THEUS who was who was All American player,

(17:03):
played a small forward spot as I did, so we
had some It was just a great matchup. Had a
little guard Tony Smith who could shoot lights out. Reggie
was averaging close to twenty points a game, and boy,
but the atmosphere, the excitement obviously as senior day, so

(17:24):
for Rick Roby, James Lee, Mike Phillips and myself it
was huge in that regard as well.

Speaker 2 (17:31):
Yeah, I can, I can remember that. And then when
the Joe would I mean, you guys blew him out.
So Joe was able to take you guys out one
at a time for the ovation and one of the
many memborable moments that we'll be talking about over the
course of this season when we reflect back. When we
come back, we Goes want to get into talking about
the current Cats and he was a part of the

(17:53):
Pro Day telecast with Dick Gabriel on Tuesday night, so
we'll talk about that when we return here on the
Leach Report presented by Bobcat Enterprises. We are back second
half of the Leach Report presented by Bobcat Enterprises. Not
just Wildcat Country, it's Bobcat Country too. In Kentucky. When
you need to buy or rent heavy equipment for a project,

(18:15):
or you know someone who does, it needs to come
from Bobcat Enterprises. They'll have great service after the sale
for locations around Kentucky. So google them to find the
location that is closest to you. We are chatting with
the Goose, Jack gibbson on Tuesday night. He and Dick
Gabriel were working the coverage of the UK men's basketball
Pro Day. Goose, what stood out to you?

Speaker 4 (18:38):
Well, you know, it was interesting, Tommy, because our position,
our stage position, if you will, how we were set up.
We had our backs to most of the action. The
cameras were shooting kind of over our shoulders so they
could see what was going on on the floor when
we were on camera. When during commercials, I would turn

(19:03):
around and watch, obviously to see what was going on,
And it seemed like every time I turned around and
had a really good look and an opportunity to watch
for a minute or two, it seemed like Colin Chandler
was always in the middle of something good happening. And
I don't want to say he was the only one

(19:26):
who stood out, because it's people ask me, well, who
really stood out, and I say, well, it's hard to
pick one player because everybody looked good, and sometimes that's
the easy answer. But the fact is I thought it
was an excellent exhibition for the pro Scalps who were there,

(19:47):
and I think every team was represented. It didn't seem
to me at all that the players were nervous. They
played hard. Mark Pope told them this is just a
regular practice and think of about it that way. But
Colin Chandler really, for me, just kind of stood out.

(20:10):
And I talked to a couple of scouts and they
said pretty much the same thing. And I think the
reason why Tom was everyone was expecting Colin to I
don't know that he Yeah, he can shoot it pretty good,
but after the workout, it was like, dag gone, this

(20:34):
was an athlete. Man. He's quicker than you think. He jumps,
definitely jumps higher than you think. He shoots the ball
better than you think. I think the fact that he
was away from the game for a couple of years,
and even though he got better as the season went
on last year and was playing a pretty good role
at the end of the season. Now, conditioning wise, he's

(21:00):
there that kind of basketball feel that you get when
you've played and played consistently for a while, that is
finally here. Didn't have that last year, that comfort level.
But I know I'm giving you a long answer to
your question, but I, like others, was impressed with Colin Chandler.

Speaker 2 (21:28):
Yeah, his name has popped up a lot from people
that get to see an occasional practice. He sort of
looks a little more physically developed, which you would expect. Yes,
and then because of that athleticism that is probably underappreciated
for him, that should enable him to really improve his

(21:52):
work on the defensive end, I would think, wouldn't it.

Speaker 4 (21:55):
Yeah, Yeah, he's going to be better and he's going
to have better defense of players around him than he
had around him at times last year. Okay, now you say, well,
what does that matter if he's got better defensive players
around him when you're talking about him individually being a

(22:18):
better defensive player. Well, defense is a team kind of concept,
and you're going to make mistakes on defense. Somebody's going
to get by you, and when you have another teammate
who can help to overcome, that help you overcome. It

(22:38):
give you a chance to get set up and get
back in defensive position. That helps, and that makes you
individually a better defensive player. And I think that's going
to be certainly the case. But yeah, because he works
so hard on both ends of the floor, he has
already shown to be a better defensive player than he

(22:59):
was last year.

Speaker 2 (23:02):
Trent Noah, people keep talking about how well he is
shooting the ball. And I saw an interview from media
day somebody was talking to Denzel Aberdeen and he singled
out Trent as a guy. You know, Trent and Colin
are two guys that I'm guessing, you know, maybe at
the end of last season, looking ahead of this year,

(23:23):
once the team was put together, that I don't know
that people penciled in them to be high on the
minutes list, maybe as as maybe they may end up
being right.

Speaker 4 (23:35):
Yeah, you know, it's interesting because I'm I always uh
people ask me, well, who is the start? Who would
be the starters? And of course with the with the
way Mark has practiced the guys this year, that's far.
I mean He's had so many lineups on the floor
that it was it was really hard to uh to

(23:56):
figure out who was going to be starting. So I
started looking at it kind of in a backwards way.
Who has looked so good that they have to Mark
and his staff has to find minutes for those guys?
Who are those guys? And Trent Noah is one of

(24:17):
those guys that I'm saying, well, you know, he might
not start, but it's going to be very difficult to
keep him off the floor because of his ability to
shoot the ball, and of course in Mark's offense, that's
a really big factor. But Trent is one of those
has proven to me thus far in practice to be
one of those guys where you say, man, you better

(24:40):
find some minutes for this guy because you're gonna need him.
And the other thing with Trent, and I know we
talk about him shooting the ball all the time, but
another thing with him is that he is a much
better defensive player than he gets credit for. He's so
you can put him against a bigger guy. He is

(25:05):
quick enough to stay with the six six six' five
forwards that our guards that he might be matched. Against
he works so that gone hard, man you just kind
of look at, him, say, man he deserves some minutes
with the way he has. Looked SO i hope that's

(25:25):
the case With, trent because he is a very valuable
player and he shot the ball very well the other
night At Pro.

Speaker 2 (25:34):
Day more than ONCE i heard somebody say, that you,
know there's No Kobe braya on this team in terms
of three point. Accuracy but the players THAT i would
think you can speak to this that would get closest
To kobe from a three point percentage, standpoint and we'll
see if this plays, out would be Either trent Or Cam.

(25:56):
Williams is that?

Speaker 1 (25:57):
Correct?

Speaker 4 (25:59):
Yes, yes you know the thing About kobe that was
really for, me really neat was THAT i was surprised
when he missed a, shot not surprised when he made,
him BUT i was surprised when he missed. One and,
yes With trent And, cam that's the kind of FEELING

(26:22):
i have when those two guys let the ball. Go
and you, know we haven't Talked Cam williams a whole,
lot AND i tried to make it a point during
the broadcast the other night With gabe to give him
a shout out because he is the kind of. Player

(26:42):
and here's What i'm hoping with. Him, man if he
is averaging around ten points a, GAME i mean he
doesn't have to be eighteen, nineteen he won't be. There
but if he is averaging around ten points a, game
you will see a, very very Good university Of kentucky basketball.

(27:03):
Team and it's tough to put that on one, player
And i'm not putting pressure on, Him but what that
means if he's averaging ten points a game is that
he's averaging four or five rebounds a game because he
is one of those guys who finds the way to

(27:24):
get to the. Basketball he's a very good. Rebounder as
a matter of, FACT i think in the, drills all
the up and down, drills the competitive team on team,
drills he might be right now the number one rebounder
among everybody on the. Floor so if he's averaging eight

(27:47):
to twelve points a, game eight to eleven points a,
game that means he's rebounding the. Basketball it also means
he's defending, well Because, mark you, know they're putting so
much infhasis on defense this year That i'm afraid if
you don't, defend you're not gonna get a lot of.
Minutes but and it also means that the guys around

(28:08):
him are doing, really really good things Because cam can
fly below the radar and you don't know all he's
done until you look at the statu sheet after the.
Game but you, said, man here he is again with
tim points and he's got five, rebounds three offensive, rebounds you,
know and in those five he is that kind of.

(28:31):
Player SO i those two, guys, yes when they shoot,
it it's kind of, Like i'm surprised he missed, that
and you, know kind of that feeling that you got
With Kobe brad even Though kobe's not.

Speaker 2 (28:43):
Here gast appreciate the time as.

Speaker 4 (28:45):
Always Thanks.

Speaker 2 (28:47):
Tom that is The Ghost Jack evans will be right
back With Justin. Rowland it's The Leach, report The Clark's
Pumping Shop. Studio Return refresh And refuel At. Clark's we
are and we are working to Land Justin, rowland So
shannon will take another run at. Him we'll see if
we can catch up To. Justin if, not we've got

(29:10):
a media day interview that we'll roll for you here
in a. Second BUT i did want to pass. Along
got a text From Richie farmer during the show and
we were talking about memorable games In. Raupperina it's part
of this fiftieth anniversary season And Corey price's article about
that that you can find in THE Uk Sports network preseason.

(29:31):
Yearbook And richie notes that in Coach patino's first season
in nineteen, ninety there were a lot of really loud
moments because the crowd was so. Involved he is exactly.
Right that's when you had the game that we talked
about With corey AGAINST, lsu when they had the upset

(29:51):
Of Chris jackson's, team and people will tell you that's
one of the loudest times ever In. Raupperina and you,
have you, know loud games In rapperena like that one
or the eighty ONE lsu game That corey. Referenced you
have loud moments like When tayshawn hit the third straight.
Three But richie's right in the nineteen ninety, season And

(30:12):
i'd tell you another big one that he reminisced about
in his text is he hit a three to Beat
Ole miss on Senior. Night and obviously he wasn't a senior,
then but for the guys that, were it's always special
to win the game On senior night and more often
than Not kentucky has done that, obviously BUT i can

(30:33):
remember he launched it from over on the right side
of the, floor drained, it of, course and it was
one of many big shots that he has hit in his.
Life but that Sent rapperena into a. Frenzy so it
was you, know moments like that are what we'll be
talking about as we moved through this upcoming. Season but he's,

(30:54):
right there are a lot of them for that nineteen ninety.
Season we'll catch up To justin and another. Time let
me go to this interview THAT i was part of
With Jaden quainton's at Media day back On. Monday interesting young.
Man not actually clear to play, yet but hopefully we'll be.
Soon this is the interview session WITH.

Speaker 5 (31:17):
Jq from being able to watch practice and co bookouts and,
everything have you been able to gain anything from, that
learn anything that will help you once you're able to
hit the four running Full.

Speaker 6 (31:30):
Sneith definitely just picking up on the case of, play
learning the, plays making SURE i know all the actions
that go, on what the coach likes to look for
in the way that we. PLAY i feel like those
are the biggest Things i've been trying to pick up
on in, practice AND i feel Like i've been doing
a pretty good job of adjusting and learning as much as.

Speaker 5 (31:46):
POSSIBLE i have a mental notebook.

Speaker 1 (31:50):
For. Sure nobody's probably asked you this, Yet but how
are you? Feeling and how's the rehab.

Speaker 6 (31:54):
Going it's been going really, well you know my need
of feeling. GOOD i feel Like i've been trusting more
and more every, day been getting better and better every.

Speaker 1 (32:03):
Day i've been doing it a. Lot is that a?

Speaker 2 (32:06):
Challenge to be able to trust the recovery from the?

Speaker 6 (32:10):
Injury for me, personally that haven't really been a, challenge you.
KNOW i know they're not gonna put me in a
position to do anything that they don't believe THAT i can,
do so whenever they give me attached But i'm gonna
go at it with a fully open mind and with
full confidence that could do whatever they tell me to.
Do i'm gonna give one hundred percent effort and everything
they tell me to. Do, Yeah SO i just continue
to trust it and try and get better every.

Speaker 2 (32:30):
Day Coach pope keeps talking about the chess games with,
you chess, manus.

Speaker 1 (32:35):
How did you come to acquire that particular.

Speaker 6 (32:37):
Skill, well my dad taught me to play WHEN i
was like. EIGHT i used to play against him all the,
time and then especially over the pandemic when it got
super popular, ONLINE i played a lot of online chest
and got a lot better that, way playing against my, classmates,
friends people with people like. That SO i feel Like
god just kind of built it slowly over the. Years
i'm not as good AS i used to be, now

(32:58):
but it's Something i've definitely.

Speaker 1 (32:59):
Enjoyed, well can you feel it when you own Coach?

Speaker 6 (33:03):
Pope you, KNOW i feel the skills coming back a little.
Bit but now it's definitely always funny to get to
play against. Him you, know that's always a funny stage for.

Speaker 2 (33:12):
Sure what do you.

Speaker 1 (33:13):
Learn from your opponent when you're playing checks?

Speaker 6 (33:16):
It it kind of depends like different, position like every game.
Is every game is, different so like you kind of
gotta pick up on different, things just like. PUZZLES i
do a lot of, puzzles like kind of picking up
on different aspects of the. Game you can't really come
in with it to pre, Playing like you gotta be
in the. Moment you gotta be. Reactive you gotta adjust
everything that goes on in the line and wants to

(33:37):
do the.

Speaker 1 (33:37):
GAME i try to do that a lot. More you're
shot blocking. Skill is that something that's just instinctive or
is it something that kind of skill you're able to.

Speaker 6 (33:44):
HONE i mean it kind of runs in the. Family
my dad was a good shot. BLOCKER i feel like
you was defensive player of the year and his conference
when you is in, college so in just being, competitive,
LIKE i feel like a lot of defense is how
much effort you want to, give how, much how much
more you want. IT i feel LIKE i wanted more
than a lot of people, wanted AND i feel like
that shows defensively just getting his. SHOTS i feel LIKE
i work on my quickness getting off the floor. QUICK

(34:05):
i feel LIKE i react. WELL i feel Like i'll
go there all things to, help but just a desire to.

Speaker 2 (34:09):
Be get out of.

Speaker 6 (34:10):
It, ALSO i feel like i'm also and it runs
in a family a little, bit laying for my.

Speaker 5 (34:13):
Hoty what chess piece would you be on the basketall?

Speaker 1 (34:16):
Floor what do you equate your position to in?

Speaker 6 (34:20):
CHESS i feel like a night athletic jumping around all
over the, board trying affect him ANYTHING i.

Speaker 1 (34:25):
POSSIBLE i think in that outs.

Speaker 2 (34:28):
SEE i was kind of thinking the king uh rejecting
all comers to the. Rim but interesting young man and
can't wait to see him on the. Court when you
talk about some of his, numbers when you look at
analytics for blocking shots and the rate at which he
did that last season At Arizona, state it's really really.

(34:49):
Impressive and it's not like he's you, know he's not
he's you, know seven, too Like BIG c or. Something
so there are guys that have trom instinct for. That
Andre riddick certainly, Won Anthony davis, Obviously Nerlan's noel a great,
one and those guys had and just a real feel for.

(35:16):
It Bill russell probably one of the best of all
time when you think about the sport of basketball at all. Levels,
anyway looking forward to seeing what that can add To
kentucky's defensive effort When jayden gets cleared to, play which
will hopefully be sooner rather than. Later all the reports

(35:36):

going to be extra cautious with his. Recovery Ryan howard
