(00:00):
Alright, let's do it. FredRogan Rodney Peat on a five seventy LA
Sports Big Show three hours to getto today, but off the top because
I was off yesterday, Rodney,I did want to mention what a terrific
piece in The Times on r J. Yeah, yeah, it was great.
Yeah, we talked about it yesterday, but it was amazing. We
(00:21):
woke up to dads on Sunday morningand it was a great spread, the
digital piece and also the video andthen and then. It's funny because people
get the papers, you know, electronically. Now it's it's hard to find
hard copy. So I was runningaround just to get because you want to
have the hard copy as well.I was just running around, stopping at
(00:42):
every seven eleven and gas station androuse and whatever you name it, trying
to trying to find a hard copyof the Sunday Times. Man. I
finally found one, but it tookme about an hour to go find one.
Yeah, they're tough to find, you know it. Everybody, Look,
because we've worked together and you've talkedtalked about r J. Everybody knows
his remarkable story. But I alsothink, honestly, he speaks to you
(01:04):
and Holly your entire family, ajourney which some have gone through and many
others have no idea what it waslike. And just when he got that
job, when he got it,what did that mean to him? And
what did that mean to you andHolly? Oh, man Fred, it
(01:26):
was because we were struggling at thatpoint. You know, you're you're wrestling
with are we gonna find a suitablecollege to further his education? Is that
the right route? He had gonethrough, you know, elementary and middle
school, and we mainstreamed him alongthe way and was able to finish high
(01:49):
school. And then you just gotis he gonna be able to handle that?
And we need to get him intothe try to get him into the
workforce and get him some vocational training. And so we were really wrestling with
that. And I gotta give itup to our man, Lan Rosen,
because he knows our families, knownHolly and and I separately before we got
married, and of course since wegot married, he's he's been a close
(02:12):
friend of ours, and and ofcourse Magic Johnson knows our story. And
you know, it was out therethat we were kind of looking for him
and looking for a job, andand LN saw a peace that we were
doing on a reality show about tryingto find RJ a job, and he
called us up and said, hey, once you bring him over, let's
see if let's see if he mightbe interested in working with the Dodgers.
(02:34):
And we talked to RJ about itand he was fired because he's a sports
nut number one. He loves sports, all sports, and the opportunity to
be over there was great. Sowe walk in and take him over there,
he meets, he meets with lawnand and then it so happened.
Andrew Friedman was there talking to DaveRoberts in his office and we'd come in
and say hello, shaker hands. He meets Dave and Lawns tells the story,
(02:57):
Hey, we're thinking about bringing RJon and Dave and Andrew's like,
okay, what are you waiting on? Let's go to work. And right
then and there they said let's let'sdo a trial basis and we left him
and it was a It was alife changing moment. And I don't say
that life lightly because it has changedhis life for the better. It gave
(03:19):
him a sense of purpose. He'sgot a family outside of our family that
he can count on that believe inhim. And I can't say enough about
the players and people a chance tosee the video piece of that, but
Freddie Freeman was on there talking aboutwhat r J meant to the clubhouse.
And we say this all the timeto Dave Roberts and to whoever else we
can say it to all the players. I mean, Jack Peterson early on
(03:44):
was his close guy. He usedto babysit or a house sit for Jock
when Jack was out of town.Of course Jack has a brother, Champ,
who's has Down syndrome, so theyreally really connected. But Justin Turner
has just been a big brother tohim all the way through. And then
to see Freddie say those words aboutRJ was was magical. But he's got
he's got big brothers over there andthey all look out for him. So
(04:06):
we were We we constantly thank Daverobertson that team and that organization, you
know, for what they've done toRJ. And and one percent of them
come back to us and respond andgo, no, you don't get it,
you don't get it. It's notabout what we do for r J's
what he does for us when wecome in and it maybe a tough day
or whatever. He got a bigsmile on his face and he's given us
(04:27):
his big bear hugs. We weall look forward to seeing RJ and interacting
with him, So it's a twoway street, Fred, But thanks for
bringing that up. But that articlewas great and just you know, the
writer Steve Henson did a great jobon that for The Times, and it
was, you know, brought tolight and the biggest thing that we get
and ended with this because the bulkof our foundation is really trying to help
(04:49):
families that are dealing with this andcreate more awareness. But when we get
calls and letters and emails and peoplecome run up to us on the street
and thank us for sharing the story, that's what it's all about. Because
RJ has given so many kids,so many young families hope that there there
is opportunity. When people tell you, never don't believe it because everyone has
(05:14):
their own individual journey. So yeah, and I think the piece really really
captured the journey because it was verytough times along the way, but I
think it captured everything. But again, I can't say enough about the Dodgers
and what they've done to change hislife for the better. Let me ask
you this to wrap it up,and you may not have an exact answer
to it, but listening to whatit did for RJ and where he was
(05:38):
and where he is now. Ifthis doesn't happen for him, now you're
his dad, Okay, if thisdoesn't happen for him, what do you
think happens to him? I mean, that's a good question, Fred.
I mean we would probably you know, push on and try to you know,
find a place to that would wouldbe able to hire and so he
(06:00):
could have somewhere to go to.I mean when he when he gets his
paycheck and he's able to go depositthat in the bank and with that look
on his face and what that meansto him is so incredible to have that
kind of independence, to be ableto go and buy his own car and
drive back and forth to work andmean so much. I mean, in
fact, that was as he's gottenolder and he got this job with the
(06:21):
Dodgers. It just reminded us ofwhat what our platform is for, and
that is to not only create awareness, but go lean on corporations and businesses
to say, listen, I knowthis kid may be on the spectrum,
but he can be a valuable pieceof your workforce and a great employee,
(06:42):
just give him a chance. Andthat's what we've been fighting for for the
for the last ten years, isworking with companies and corporations to give these
kids a chance, because if youdo, they will be one of your
most trusted, valuable employees that youwill ever see and ever find. And
so we've been able to get alot of kids into the workforce, and
again the things that it does forthem is also amazing. But for RJ
(07:08):
to be in that clubhouse with thewith the team and a franchise like the
Dodgers, it is a dream cometrue for anyone, but let alone a
kid that's on the spectrum like heis. Great job by Steve Henson,
and congratulations to r J. Andhe's done. By the way, I'm
gonna say congratulations to you and Hollyas well. But RJ's done the work.
(07:30):
So congratulations to him. Yeah, thanks, thanks for I appreciate it.
Okay, So last night Dodgers beatArizona. He used the long ball
and you know chicks digged the longball, Yes they do, so they
all the chicks were thrilled that theyused the long ball to beat him.
Justin Hayward, Homard, uh JamesAltman, Homard, Freddie Homard, Max
Munsey, homerd So they put iton him, they beat him. Bobby
(07:54):
Miller, I thought battled last night. I thought he was very good.
He had one tough inning, butaside from that, they let him go.
So he pitched a little deeper. He got through it. He picked
up a win, and that's importantfor him. Dave Roberts thought he did
pretty well last night. You takethat one inning away, Rodney, and
he was very good. Yeah, now he was. He was, He
(08:16):
was very affecting, and they're gonnaneed him to do this fread. They
need him to go deep into games. And I think that is the mindset
with this team with Mark Prior andDave Robberts, is to let the some
of these younger guys and newer guysgo deep into games because the deeper they
go, the less stress it putson the bullpen. And they have to
(08:37):
be in some high leverage situations becauseBobby Miller is a guy that they're going
to lean on and need come October. So using this next thirty days,
next whatever until the playoffs start isa great opportunity to do that. The
Dodgers. I mean, that's anotheradvantage of having a comfortable lead is you're
able to do that with some ofthese pitchers like Bobby Miller. I think,
(09:00):
you know, Ryan Pepio's gonna getsome work as well. But allowing
them to go, allowing them tostruggle a little bit, is going to
be helpful for them once they getto October. Tony Gonslin we found out
when you guys got off the air, right before we got off the air.
Yes, yeah, it's Tommy Johnfor Tony Gonslin. Now, Dave
Robert said he was asymptomatic, whichwould indicate the guy needs Tommy John surgery
(09:22):
but didn't feel any pain for whateverreason. I find that hard to believe
that you need Tommy John surgery andfelt nothing, and an MRI revealed that
he needed that. Either he isa complete stud or he was not born,
he's a machine that was made,or maybe Rodney for a good period
of time he was hiding that pain. Yeah, but they're not all created
(09:45):
equal either. Some people experience justminor soreness, you know, and it's
not always just like, oh mygod, this is just the most painful
thing in the world. On myelbow. I can't do anything. I
can't lift my arm. You know, sometimes it is just a slow,
grind, slow, dull pain thatyou feel in at elbay that's just uncomfortable,
and you know, at first clientsor first thought, you may not
(10:07):
think it's as much. It's like, no way, this could be Tommy
John, because when we hear TommyJohn, we think this is the worst.
Right, it's devastating. You're outfor at least a year. It
could be career ending. Although nowdoctor Neil Eltraje, I mean it's he
is the guru, and anybody aroundthe world that has an issue with the
(10:28):
with the elbow goes to him becausehe can get you back. But yeah,
they're not all created equals. Soto say that it's asymptomatic or he
wasn't you know, in deep pain, it's believable. It's believable because you
know, I've known guys that justI have no idea that I was gonna
have Tommy John because I didn't feellike my elbow was that serious. And
it turns out once they do theMRI, it's more serious than they thought.
(10:50):
I kind of chuckled. Last night, I was watching Sports Net La
the broadcast of the game, andthey had that little crawl at the bottom
of the screen with news and notesand updates, and it says Tony Gonsland
is going to undergo Tommy John surgeryperformed by doctor Neil Eltroy. Neil,
come on, come on. Yeah. They wanted to make sure everybody knew
(11:13):
that this was handled by the guy, the guy, the guy man.
Yeah, he is the guy.How many times? How many times have
I said this? Some days Iwake up in the morning, I feel
great. I just hope I breakmy elbow or knee. So I goes
to once in your lifetime. Hey, his people did my knee? Yeah,
yeah, yeah. I called Neiland he had John to Barry,
(11:37):
who does the knees there? Yeah, he goes, I got the guy
for you, no problem. Theyare the Listen, everybody's a great doctor
and you have your doctors and youlove him and you should and if you're
comfortable the boy, if you've gotan orthopedic issue and you don't have a
doctor. I tried to get intheir calendar as quickly as possible, because
(11:58):
they really are the people. ShelbyMiller talking about injuries. We find out
he may be back soon, andthat big, big plus for the Dodgers
because if he's back and he's healthyand ready to go and a bullpen has
been performing pretty well. Now,it's good to see Alex Vessia back,
confident again, get the job done. Last night, Shelby Miller's back.
(12:20):
He might be your best bullpen guyand he hasn't pitched. Yeah, guy's
coming back at the right time, and you need that. Bessie is going
to be a kick upon it asa LEFTI coming out of that bullpen.
They need him to get back tofor him and have that confidence back.
So yeah, it was good tosee him. Did you see, by
the way, Zach Gelfin pitch forArizona last night? Yeah, I don't
think he well. First, he'snever given up four home runs in the
(12:41):
game ever, never, and he'sa guy that's in the running for the
cy Young And in the first inningwhen Freeman and Muns he homered off him.
I looked at his I thought hewas going to cry. He was
either so shocked that this happened orso disheartened that it happened that he looked
completely and totally overwhelmed Up there. He was like, oh, my god.
(13:03):
And then he settled down and theymade it a game, and they
took the lead, but Dodgers cameback. But I looked at him,
and honest to God, I thoughthe was gonna start crying. He was
so upset. You wanted to givehim a stress test. Friend. He
needed something, because that guy washe was pretty upset that he had gone
through that. So as we beginthe game tonight at the stadium and Clayton
Kershaw pitches, Dodgers are now thirteenahead of Arizona, thirteen and a half
(13:28):
ahead of San Francisco. They're twentygames. Mike got the Padres games ahead
of the Padress. I didn't evenlook the putts. Where are they in
any kind of wild card races? Are they even closer? They done?
I think they're seven and a halfback by final wild card. I think
in Colorado we won't even mention anymore. And I said this yesterday. He
(13:48):
gets this goes speaks to I mean, look at it, the team like
the Padres. You think a teamlike the Mets got all that talent,
paid for all that talent too.And then you look at the Dodgers,
who nobody really expected to win theWest this year. Predicted, didn't predict
him to win. Predicted the Padresor the Giants. Granted, nobody really
picked the Diamondbacks. They came outof nowhere, but the Padres were the
(14:11):
favorite. But they imploded and theygot all that talent and they can't seem
to get it together. They're infighting in the clubhouse. And then you
look at the Dodgers and the cultureand what Dave Roberts has done, and
I think people don't give him enoughcredit. I know we talk about him.
We're a big Dave Roberts fans, but that is a thing to have
a roster of stars and making surethat they are cohesive and that everybody buys
(14:35):
into the philosophy. And you don'thave to look further than down south at
San Diego and just imagine that teamand where what it's going through. And
then you look at the Dodgers andhow they put it together and how Dave
Roberts is able to keep the cohesivenessin the locker room. He still does
not get enough credit for that, because you can have talent, but can
(14:56):
that talent play together? And we'reseeing the Dodge do it and the Padre
is not this look around the wildnl West has brought you by so called
gass. Don't dance around safety contacteight one one two business days before digging
around your home. Go to socalgasdot com slash eight one one to learn
more. Okay, bottom of thehour, we're gonna play little Who Diss?
Today? You will compete with Rodneyand Katie is in today, come
(15:20):
out and Katie's always tough. Katieis tough as nails, Yes she is.
So you'll compete with the two ofthem. We'll give you a cute
a call when we come back. These guys won't listen to me. Maybe
I'm too old. We'll explain RodneyPete Fred Rogan on a Tuesday, lots
to get to, lots to getto Rodney. We are going to play
(15:43):
who Dies and we'll either play atthe bottom of the hour or next hour,
but we'll give you a cue.We'll give you a cute a call.
Okay, let's let's take a listennow to Kelly Stafford, Matthew's wife,
on her podcast, talking about somethings Matthew is going through with the
RAMS. So Matthew's been in theleague a long time, right, We've
(16:04):
been talking about this. He's like, the difference in the locker room has
changed so significantly. And they havea lot of rookies on their team this
year. They're very young, soso we have a very interesting season.
You know, they're young, they'relearning. But he's like, I feel
like I can't connect because in theold days, you would come out of
(16:25):
come out of practice, you'd showerthis during training camp shower, people would
be playing cards, people would beinteracting. Who knows what they're doing,
you know, but they're they're atleast talking, he said. Now they
get downe with practice or get downewith meetings during training camp, and they
go straight to their phones. Likeno one looks up from their phone.
So Matthews like, I don't evenknow how to do. I am I
(16:47):
the dad? Do I take thephones? Like what do I do here?
I mean there? And he's like, I want them to see me
as like not as like a Idon't He's like as a coach, you
know. He feels like they saylike sort of him, and he's like,
no, no, no, we'reon the same level here. We're
both playing in this league. Likelet me get to know you. But
he said so different and so hardto get to know these guys. He
(17:10):
had a book printed out. Heasked his equip I think it's his equipment
guys to have a book printed ofall the guys faces and their names,
because he's like, I don't Ineed to know their names. I feel
like we don't ever talk. Sonow I'm going to find their names and
I'm going to know and I'm like, okay, so and so how is
your weekend? Like I'm gonna sothat they know that I know them and
maybe we should get to know eachother. Okay. That was Matthew's wife
(17:34):
Kelly Stafford on our podcast. Acouple of things come to mind, good
advice. Yeah, first of all, First of all, I think that
Matthew Stafford understands his responsibility. Eventhe book let me learn everybody's name,
Rodney, when you were playing, and I mean generationally, younger guys came
(17:56):
in and you got older, didyou encounter anything like he's in common?
Oh yeah, Oh yeah. There'sdifferent interests. I came in. I
came into the you know, intothe league and it was twenty two and
so the things that you like todo, the music that you like to
listen to, what you like towatch on TV. Is different than somebody
(18:21):
that's thirty eight and has four kids. You know, it's a whole different
culture. But as as the leader, and as you do get older,
you've got to find a way tointegrate and fit in to their world.
And it's no different you have kids. I have kids. It's no different
than than kids nowadays. You know, you come home and unless you're unless
(18:44):
you initiate the conversation with the kids, they don't come out of the room
or they don't come up from theirphone because with all the social media that
occupies their time, and you gotto force times to sit down and have
dinner together and and just talk abouttheir day. Otherwise they will be in
their phone or there or iPad orsomething like that throughout the day. So
yeah, and my last year,I was thirty eight years old and I'm
(19:04):
playing with guys that are twenty andtwenty one years old, and they're talking
about, you know, we're goingto you know, to this nightclub that
nightclub, and you know, hada date with this girl and that girl
and all those things that you didwhen you were twenty one, but you
don't, you don't do them anymore. And so finding ways to connect,
whether that is playing cards and settingup card games and competition things like that
(19:27):
in training camp especially, is agood way to get to know each other.
But yeah, you have to workat it when you get older,
especially at a quarterback, especially asa leader, because there is a generational
gap that you've got to deal with. Are you surprised at all? And
obviously we know that Kelly Stafford saysexactly what's on her mind. I was
(19:48):
actually surprised she talked about that.To me, that seemed kind of a
personal thing that he is trying todo as a leader. And I was
surprised she brought that up publicly.I wrong, Am I right? Does
it matter? Uh? No,No, I'm not. I thought it
was good. I thought it wasgood that she brought it up, because
it if you're gonna do it,if you're gonna have a podcast, I
(20:11):
mean, nobody wants just the surfacestuff, right, And she is very
candid on her podcast and and andit's sometimes it's it works sometimes good.
Sometimes you know, maybe back farfrom time to time. But I think
she's very candid because nobody wants justthe generic bland, old coach speak kind
of talk. They want to knowthat what he may be struggling with and
(20:33):
to be able to share that.I don't think it was a bad thing
at all. I think it's uhsomething that is curious. You know,
as you get older, how doyou relate to the young players on your
team, young teammates. I didn'tthink that was I think that was out
of line at all. Actually,uh so when you hear what you heard
and he is the starting quarterback, does that give you concern just about this
(20:53):
team coming together? Uh No,No, not really. Either they're gonna
do it or not. I mean, he's he's played with younger players before.
I think the good thing is thathe still has some veterans on that
team that if he doesn't do it, they can kind of bring the other
guys along. Look, Cooper Cupphas been with him for a while.
(21:15):
He's a veteran receiver. If it'sin that receiver room and the guys are
acting up, he can rely onCooper to kind of, you know,
convey the message, Hey, youguys got to get it together, or
you guys got to spend extra timeor whatever that needs it needs to happen.
You know, same thing with AaronDonald on the defensive side of the
ball, so it doesn't always haveto be him, and so he doesn't
turn into that get off my lawnguy, and you guys are not doing
(21:38):
it the way I want to doit. And you know, we see
that often with coaches that get old, a little bit older, and they
want to go back to nineteen seventyhow they coach guys, and that just
doesn't work with a new generation, especially with the you know, the contracts
and amount of money is thrown outthere. You can't just easily cut people
like he used to be able todo. And the coaches have less power
(21:59):
than they did when you know,Bill Parcels was coaching or Bill Walsh was
coaching back in the day where theydid have most of the power. Now
it's it's really been in trans transferredto the players now, So you got
to be able to adapt, allright. Rich Hammond will be on the
show during the one o'clock hour. We'll talk more about the rams. Who
is ready for a little who disswho? Quote? Katie You ready?
(22:22):
I know you're ready, Yes weare eight six six nine, eight seven
two five seventy First caller, Firstcaller, Kevin will pick you up and
puts you on the air and you'llplay Rodney and Katie today and do not
forget tonight that Diamondbacks take on theDodgers with the first pitch at seven.

Use your challenge and it's denied, and you're locked out of the next
question. Miguel and Santa Clarita, are you there? Well, let's do
(23:29):

of who dis? Right? Yeah? Sure, all right. Katie Newton's

(26:00):
I was the second overall pick inthe twenty seventeen NBA draft, Lonzo Ball
Zoe's magic? Would it jumped?Shut? Is that the hint he gave
out before the question that legal?I shouldn't have done that? Shut up,
Kevin? Was that bad that Idid? There? Was that wrong

(26:23):

I don't know. I hope not. Come on, Miguel, come on,

said? Everybody was at one point, Fred, Yeah, Fran. Now
did you see the documentary Swamp Thingsor whatever they call it, Swamp Untold.
It's a pretty good one. Yeah, yeah, about the Florida Gators
during that time, Tebow and UrbanMeyer down there. It's really good,
(28:03):
really good. Is there are alot of Aaron Hernandez in there? You
know there's some, but not asmuch as you would think. Yeah,
it was a kind of a puffpiece documentary. It's heavy, heavy,
hairy, heavy Urban Meyer. Andyou see him in a different light though,
interesting, Yeah, the Urban ina different light. All right,
here's the next one. I madeeight All Star teams in my NBA career.
(28:29):
Eight you can count them, AhChrist, Paul Good, try Scottie
Pipott, Paul Joli bought the wronggood tries Uh, Tim Duckan no Manu
gen Nobiley new Tony Poka. No. I was the Rookie of the Year
(28:56):
of ninety nine and won the DunkContest and dramatic fashion and two thousand in
dramatic fashion. In two thousands,Yeah, mhm, Kobe Bryant not the
bean. Uh. Tracy McGrady knewuh Sean kimp no Uh. At one
(29:26):
point I said, no team withthis man on it would ever win an
NBA championship. He said that,No, the eye and that is Fred.
By the way, this person didnot say that about himself. No,
I said that. Yeah, Fredsaid this about this player. Fred
said that about the player. Yes. I don't know why, but yes,
and I was accurate. I saidterrible statement for it it is,
(29:55):
but it was true. And Idon't know what it was steeped from.
Yeah. I have no no venthat against this man. I can't tell.
No, I just knew it wouldnever happen. Although I played for
eight teams, I am most associatedwith the Toronto Raptors. Yes, bits
caught up there. It is Whydid they believed he win because I always
(30:19):
thought his style of play was sooverwhelming that the rest of the team would
not be able to gel together.I did. I said that for years.
He was and by all accounts,he's a very good guy, but
he was kind of a one manshow, and not because he was ball
(30:41):
centric, but because he was andI just thought no team would ever win
a title with him on it.Did you see him play the last eight
ten years of his career when hewas basically a role player? That's right,
But I'd already said it earlier,so I couldn't go backwards. Oh
god, I see. Okay, yeah, yeah, makes sense. That
about a lot of guys. Yeah, okay, Well I didn't say it
about a lot of guys. Allright, here's the last one, Rodney.
(31:04):
Well, I'm not gonna jink ship. Last question. I was the
first overall pick in the twenty twentyone NFL draft. Try to let them
get it, last pick, firstpick overall, twenty twenty one. Yes,
(31:26):
I made my first Pro Bowl lastseason, led my team to a
wild card playoff win. Never Lawrenceand there it is be a Macklin enough,
thank thank dang it is. It'salways good to go undefeated on a
Tuesday, makes me feel good, made me feel warm and fuzzy inside.
(31:51):
Thank y'all for playing. Appreciate it. Miguel, listen, I thought you
were in it. You you certainlyjumped in. But Rodney was just right
hot today. Yeah. Yeah,Sometimes I'm like, keep bets right now?
Too hot? Okay, So Miguel, thanks for listening. We really
appreciate it. Man, Yes,sir, with your day, guys,
(32:12):
try to stay cool all right too. And Katie, how do you feel
about your performance today? I thinkit was worse than normal. Okay.
I think the only answer you putout there was Antonio Gates. No,
she had one more what she did? Yeah, I said Mark McGuire,
Mark McGuire and Antonio Gates. MarkMcGuire, you know, what's a question?
It doesn't matter about a Yeah,so what we'll do? Even though
(32:36):
he played in the almen, Katiestarted in the al Yeah, Katie,
are you in the rest of theweek? Yes, I am. Okay,
Kevin come up with a question wherethe answer is Mark McGuire or Antonio
Gates. Yeah, so Katie getsone. Well, you know, the
charges are in. She's a hugeCharger fan, so maybe and that's the
only only players you know is MarkMcGuire and Antonio. Kate, you know
we should do since you are abig Charger fan, Katie. We can
(32:59):
ask Kevin. I mean, wecan't make any promises, despite the fact
Kevin is standing one foot from you, but we can ask Kevin if we
can play. No, your squadand the squad will be the charger.
We can do that. I absolutelycan whip that up. No, no,
no, watch, I'm gonna embarrassmyself on that and be like,
what, what's a charger? I'venever heard of it. Oh gosh,
I'm gonna freeze. No, no, I'm gonna be good, gonna be
fine, You'll be fine, allright, So we'll work on that for
(33:20):
later this week. Well, look, I we never pitch again, but
we know he can hit. Sohow much is he worth? And are
the Dodgers interested? That's coming upnext hour and Rich Hammond will join us

(34:58):
Jacob m Ronnie J. How areyou good? Afternoon, gentlemen? How
are you doing with this heat?Yeah? It's getting hot now, Jacob,
isn't it? It is gonna cooloff? Though? I think what
Thursday? I think it's cool day. Yeah, it's supposed to, but
you know, I wish we hadyou know, this type of weather in
early July and when summer is reallysupposed to be summer, not a week
(35:21):
before Labor Day. Yeah yeah, yeah, come on, now, supposed
to be cooling off by Labor Day? Yeah, well, well kids,
you know, kids back in school, and you know they wanted to be,
you know, hanging out with thisweather, going to the pool,
and then it was cold at thattime, and now the kids are back
in school and it's getting hot.You know what's so worried about. You
don't worry about that, Jacob.Every year when you have kids, of
(35:44):
course, you plan the calendar aroundwhen they're in school and out of school.
And then when your kids are finallygrown and they don't go to school
anymore, you forget there is evenschool. It's like, I don't know
when anybody starts school stop school.I don't even know anymore. I know,
you know what people be able usedto be able to track it by
Labor Day, right, either it'slike a week before week after Labor Day
(36:05):
it starts and then you know, somewhere around Memorial Day in May, with
kids were getting out of school firstof June and late May. Now,
yeah, kids are starting in earlyAugust. Kids are getting out sometimes.
Some kids in schools are getting outin April. Some are going always to
the middle of June. Yeah,Ronny, you hit it on the head.
I mean, I remember Labor Daywhen I used to go to school.
(36:27):
Labor Day used to be your lastsummer vacation, the last three days
that you can have fun, andthen the week after it started. Now
my kids are in school first weekof August, and you know, even
vacation time is all upside down becauseyou don't know. One time it starts
first week of August, next timeit starts third week of August. I
just hope they would have gone backto understanding Labor Day right after starts school,
(36:50):
right after you know, Memorial Day, boom stop. Give the kids
the summer exactly, Jacob. Weknow you're a partner of the proud partner
of the Laker. It's also aproud partner of LAFC. Easy for you
to say, yeah, and thisweekend a MESSI will be in town to
take him on. Are you goingto be out there? You know,
it still remains to be seen.I was supposed to be at a conference
(37:12):
out of town, and I don'tknow if I'm going to be going.
If I don't go to the conference, then obviously I'll be there, you
know, front and center. I'mnot going to miss such an excellent,
excellent, excellent opportunity to see oneof the one of them, if not
the greatest, you know, inin you know, in the world of
soccer. Hey take it. Whatdo you make of that? Though he's
he's come over here, obviously hehas been you know, it's not the
(37:34):
best and the best in the worldfor at least what eight years now,
and he comes over here and dominatesover here. It feels like he's just
play a man among boys. Doesthat say something about soccer in this country?
Or does it say more about howgood MESSI is? Well, I
mean, I think number one.Let's not forget that even when Beckham came
(37:57):
out here, most of the Europeansoccer players would come out here towards the
end of their career and they wouldalready be somewhat washed up. Obviously,
somebody you know, coming in fromEurope is still going to be you know,
bounds on leaps above at that timewhen some of the people who played
in the MLS, so you know, Beckham came out, you know,
(38:20):
the lot on Abramovich came out andthey were still dominating even though they were
towards the end of their career. When you got Messy coming over here,
there's nothing about him that's the endof his career and you literally are looking
like at an NBA player playing witha bunch of JV kids. I mean,
just some of the stuff that he'sdoing. And don't forget right now,
we do have some good talent inthe MLS. I mean, you
(38:42):
have some great talent on every singleteam. What's exciting about it is that
they were able to make a goodenough financial deal to bring him over,
which I think is just a precursorfor a lot of other great greats coming
down here. But it also meansthat MLS and the soccer has come such
a long way that somebody like Messiwould actually consider coming. And you can
(39:06):
see when he goes to the stadium, it's basically like the Beatles. I
mean, I remember, you knowthat when the Lakers used to be during
the Showtime era, even at youknow, during the Kobe and Shock,
when when they used to travel,it was like, you know the Beatles,
right, That's what you're you're seeing, what's happening with Miami right now
and that's what they've created. Jacobour our listeners love when you offer some
(39:27):
advice. This is something I've wonderedabout. I mean, I know my
son got in on an accident.I called you immediately and asked you questions.
But what if someone wants to speakto someone face to face and I
don't know if that happens anymore.Do you guys take meetings face to face?
And what else would you do forsomeone that wants to talk to an
attorney? You know, absolutely,And that's a fantastic question. It's something
(39:51):
that doesn't get talk enough about. And you know, we're still consider ourselves
face to face people because we wantto know our clients. The clients should
know their attorneys. In a worldof technology, what we what we do
is to try to make things aseasy as possible for the client. And
if they want to just go aheadand you know sign up, you know
(40:12):
through docky sign or you know esigned, there's so many different you know
apps, then we allow them todo that and then we meet them in
the office. But a lot ofour clients ask to meet face to face
with a representatives. So either ifthey want to come in, we make
ourselves availble to sit with them inour office face to face, but more
(40:34):
likely than not, because we dorepresent clients up and down the California coast
all the way even up to northernCalifornia, we actually send people to go
meet with a potential client face toface at their convenience, at their home,
if they are in the hospital,at the hospital, if they want
to meet at a you know, third sort of neutral area, we send
(40:57):
them there. We have a teamof people that that's all they do.
They go out, they spend thetime sit with them face to face,
review all of their questions, answerall their questions. And one of the
things that goes on spoken is thata lot of times after an accident,
you need to actually fill up paperworkand a lot of people don't know what
to do, so our team actuallyhelps them do that. So it's really
like what you see right now withthe concierge doctors, and you don't have
(41:21):
to go into their offices, they'lljust come to you. That's basically what
you know we are providing. It'sa concierge attorney service. How you know,
we start everything for our clients orpotential clients. All right, well
that is great advice ahead, Rodney. No, awesome, that's great.
You good. I'm very good now. All right, well Jacob, thanks
for coming on and thanks for theinformation. Thanks guys, nice talking in.
(41:44):
Good talking to you. Coming upthis hour, Rich Hammond, we'll
be on. We'll talk about therams, the comments made by Kelly Stafford.
Also, boy he can hit.I don't think he can pitch.
Are the dog? You're still interested, Let's get into it.
