(00:00):
Okay, here we go three hourstoday, Fred Rogan, Rodney Pete on
a M five seventy l a SportsIf you're just jumping on right at the
top of the hour, three pairsof Braves Dodger tickets to give away three
count the one, two, three, three a pair every hour. Rodney,
I love that. I love that. We just we're killing it.
Like I said, you know,we're killing it. I swear to you,
(00:24):
I'm not exaggerating. I'm walking downthe hall today. Yes, and
Don Martin, what happened? Ican hear Don Martin at his office.
You know, Don Martin does alot of these zooms shocker. Yeah.
And he's doing all these zoom callsall the time. And he's also got
like a light on his computer sohe looks good. You know. He
(00:45):
wants to be litd properly. Andhe's talking to the corporate people of people
in Fox Sports Radio. All Ihear is this. This is all I
hear is I walk by Rogan andRodney. Those guys are killing it just
as I walked by. Happened tobe when you walk by, h just
happened. Just happened to me.As I walked by, I heard him
say that, Yes, five hundredthings on the agenda for Don Martin,
(01:07):
and it just happens to be roganand rodding when you walk by killing it.
I love it. That's what Iheard. That's timing for. That's
what they call timing. Yeah, and life is luck and timing. Huh.
All right, Three pairs of tickets, folks, Three biggest series of
the year, two best teams NationalLeague, arguably two best teams in baseball.
We're giving the tickets away this hour, bottom of the hour. We're
(01:30):
gonna play who dis. If youwin, who dish, you get the
tickets. No clue, no hint, no last questions were seven. You
gotta win them out right, becausethese are really hot tickets. If you
don't win them, then we're gonnaopen them up for everybody. I know
you say that all the time,Fred, and then you sneak an extra
clue in or extra question or bonusor we can't do it today, Rod.
(01:52):
You're a big softie, Fred,I know, but we can't do
it today because we've got these ticketsand everybody wants them. One pair an
hour they start this hour. Okay, so let's get started with this and
I'm gonna make a statement and itwill apply as we move down the line
here if things remain the way theyare, and I think it'll apply to
the postseason as well. Okay, okay, good pitching always beats good hitting.
(02:15):
We've learned that in the postseason. We know the importance of beating good
pitchers, and we also know fora period of time, and I think
myself I said this that you know, the Dodgers beat up on really bad
pitching, not a problem. Goodpitching causes some issues. The last two
(02:35):
nights, now, I don't carewhat team they play. For the last
two nights, the Dodgers saw twoof the best pitchers in the National League
yep, Zach Gallant and Meryl Kelly, and they torched them. They torched
them. Now, it doesn't matterwhat team they sit here and start making.
It doesn't matter what team they playwell because you could say, well,
(02:58):
look errors even though they're good, but you know they're Arizona. I
don't care. They're two of thebest chasing a walkart birth Arizona was leading
the division for three months of theArizona is a good baseball team. Yeah
there, y'are there, But whatyou want Dodgers up by thirteen on them
now. But they are good baseballteams. They are. But my point
is this that those are the twoof the best pitchers in baseball and they
(03:23):
lit him up, both of them. They let them up. Yeah.
Now, I think that because Ithink back to as we have traveled down
the road and get to the postseasonand all of a sudden, well they're
not hitting, boy, they can'thit good pitching. This is when the
pitching is the best. You justsaw two of the best pitchers in the
league, two of the best pitchersin the league, and they torched them.
(03:49):
I think that says. I thinkthat speaks volumes. They torched them.
I thought, Merril Kelly, Zach. I thought on Monday Zach Gallen
was going to cry. And Itold you that I thought he was gonna
cry what he gave up those homeruns that camera zumed in on his face.
He looked like Ronda Rousey once youfinally got knocked out. Oh no,
(04:11):
it was like, I don't evenwhat world am I living in.
I don't even know what this is. Not to be Devil's advocate on you,
Freddy. Yes, they beat upon galland they beat up on Kelly.
But it's still August. No,I got you, but it was
August, and people will say,Okay, that's fine for August. I
got it. Get get the qualitypictures a team that has three horses or
(04:35):
two horses in the playoffs, andlet's see what happens when the other team's
going to provide some offense as well. I mean, I think that that's
what you gotta look at. Butthe Dodgers, no question, are playing
as good as anybody. I don'tknow there's another team. There's definitely not
another team in baseball. Let meput it that way. That's hotter than
the Dodgers right now. But hesaid this all the time. It's not
(04:57):
how good you are, because youcan have a great regular season, as
the Dodgers did last year. Itis how hot you are when October rolls
around. And let's just hope thatthey can keep this going because they are
on fire, including their leader MookieBetts. But can you agree with me
that those are two of the bestpictures in the case, Yes, without
doubt. I mean, I'm tellingyou. Gallen looked like he was gonna
(05:19):
cry, and Merrill Kelly looked likeif he could have walked out. He
would have. Last night. Theywere shell shocked. They were stunned,
just stunned by what the Dodgers didto him. Now, Spencer Strider will
be here for the Braves. Okay, Now that'll be a pretty good test
because I think he's better than bothof them. But those are two of
the best, and they got tothem, So why won't they get the
(05:42):
Strider. I think it's great.I think it's very encouraging. I think
it's encouraging. Yeah, but justremember Atlanta has a better offensive lineup than
the Diamondbacks as well. They're gonnascore some runs. Okay, let him
score, Yeah, let him score. The Dodgers don't have any The Dodgers
have not had any problems correct, scoring correct. And now I thought Clayton
(06:08):
Kershaw did a nice job last night. I thought he was solid. The
line score said one thing. Idon't think he had his best stuff,
but he was solid last night.Okay, that was a nice performance by
him. Mookie hit the home run. Uh, Mookie crushed it. Yeah,
I'm crushed it absolutely, thirty sixHomer. It was good to see
(06:30):
uh Peralta and Hayward. Hayward, you know, You've said this all season
long. You know, they signedHayward, being like, oh, who's
he wouldn't you know what he's kindof at the tail end the back nine
of his career and how much ishe really gonna help to die? Hayward's
been on fire, and not tomention how good he's been defensively, it's
been great. And now we getChris Taylor going that hopefully he can stay
hot. This team it's jelling andhappening at the right time with you just
(06:56):
almost wished that the postseason would startnext week. Yeah, yeah, I
mean those two guys have proven tobe valuable, valuable players, valuable people
that contributed, so that really workedout well for them. What did Oral
Hirsheizers say to us We were doingthe remote out at Dodger Stadium and he
(07:18):
said something and it just it reallystruck me. When you come to the
Dodgers, He said, their recordfor fixing people, and I guess he
knows the analytics of it. Forfixing guys, it's seventy percent, seventy
percent. When you get here,we're going to fix you and make it
better. Aside from Noah Synderguard thisyear, they're batting a thousand. Everybody
(07:44):
they brought in, they have tweaked, corrected, worked with fixed and they
are all valuable contributors. He saidthey were hitting seventy percent. He said
this year is an aberration because theyonly missed on one. And I think
that's what you see with Heyward andthat's what you see with Peralta. Yeah,
Rojas, Yeah. I mean they'revaluable contributors to the team. They're
(08:09):
valuable. Yeah. And you canfeel watching them the momentum now, you
can sense it. You can seethey're having a good time. The fans
are having a good time. There'san energy about this team now. Will
Smith hit a home run last night, which was nice. At first,
I thought he was going to hitit into the second deck. He just
hit it so high. Then itfinally came down, but I thought,
(08:30):
oh god, he crushed it,crushed it. Yeah, And it's cool
when you're when you're a superstar. It's the top two guys at the top
of the lineup. Freddy and Mookieare going like they're going and these are
guys. Look, these are guysthat playing every day too. And that's
another thing. They're leading by example. They never come out of the game
unless you beg them to come outand sit down. But they're leading the
(08:52):
way and it just is only natural. And that's why all coaches want want
when they talk about leadership, theywant their best players to set the example
because everybody else falls in place. Those guys in the lineup. When they
see Mookie and Freddie going away, they're going. They feel a sense of
obligation. Hey, I gotta getmy you know what going to And that's
what's happening with this team. Thetop two are going, but the rest
(09:15):
of the team is following suit.Keika coming back here. There's another one
to add to your list. Fredof fixing guys struggling with Bralston having the
worst year of his career, hecomes here and Keika has been on fire
since he's been here. It's avaluable part of this team and will be
a valuable part of this team goingforward. So it's incredible what this organization
does. Let's just hope they canstay hot through through the month of September
(09:39):
on to the playoffs. Now youlook at it, well, look at
like this. At the beginning ofthe year. If I said Rodney,
the Dodgers will make the playoffs, you might have said, Okay, yeah,
good by that. I hear that. If I said, Rodney,
the Dodgers are going to make theplayoffs and win the division, you might
have said, well, maybe, yeah, maybe there's a shot, but
(10:03):
I mean, wow, you look, there were a lot to absolutely not.
They would not even come close towinning the division. Okay. If
I said, Rodney, the Dodgersare going to make the playoffs, win
the division, and win a hundredgames, what would you say? Oh
no, no, they won onehundred and eleven. They were on fire
last year, all systems go,weapons, everything with that team. They
(10:26):
had no chance they win a hundredgames this year. This is rebuilding.
They didn't even do anything in theoff season. What are you talking about,
Freddick crazy? They can easily wina hundred games now, yeah they
can. Eighty six? Yeah, right, Kevin, eighty two? Where
are they? He's like, it'seighty two. I think it's eighty two
and forty nine? Is it eightytwo and forty nine? Yeah? Okay,
(10:48):
so eighteen games left? Yeah, yeah, come on, I think
you're right. Eighty two. Yeah. If they're eighty two and forty nine,
they're eighteen games away. They canwin a hundred games again, and
you never would have thought it,You never would have expected it, You
never would have believed it at thebeginning forty nine, right, Just think
about that, No, think thinkabout the way everyone felt at the beginning.
(11:13):
So the way it's playing out now, it's remarkable. I've said it,
You've said it up. You coulddisagree as a listener. This is
Dave Roberts's best job managing. Huh, this is his best work if you're
ever when Steve Kerr commented after theylost Kevin Durant the Warriors and they had
(11:33):
kind of a tough year, youknow what, he said, that was
my most enjoyable year coaching. Thatwas the most fun I had. I
got to teach these guys, whogot to work with these guys, guys
coming together. Okay, Well,if you look at the Dodgers and what
happened during the off season and thechanges that were made, and the feeling
(11:54):
at the beginning of the year that, okay, they'll make the playoffs.
Let's not get nuts here, andthen you look at the injuries and the
pitching staff was decimated by injuries.Gavin Lux goes down in spring training.
I mean, if you just lookat everything that happened, you go,
oh, well, just you know, limp your way and get their nice
(12:15):
job. Hell, they could endup with the best record of the National
League. And that's all the Rememberthe dog beat up the Dodgers guide about
their offseason acquisitions, which was alot of people. They didn't do anything.
They didn't bring anybody in. Peopleleft. You lost, You lost
Suzer, you lost trade turner.Who you bringing in? Where they When
(12:37):
the Dodger are gonna strike? Itwas December, then it became January.
Okay, s frank training, they'regonna get the big guys. Nothing,
nothing came. We'll see how itgoes. And then the trade wait and
then the deadline. Right, okay, the big splash at the trade deadline.
Here it comes here, it comespretty big splash for the Dodgers.
Here we go. Where is itwaiting for that trade deadline? A lance
(13:05):
Lynn? Yep, lance Lynn.Oh he doesn't give up home runs.
What are you gonna do with it? Oh? Only win every game that
he starts. It's incredible. Imean he's come here and done well every
you know, every time he's gota chance, he's done well. Come
and and made a difference. Rememberingoral seventy percent, that's their average.
(13:30):
If they get somebody here, seventypercent of the time, they fix him.
When Andrew Heeney was here, hepitched very well. When Tyler Anderson
was here, he pitched very well, got him a contract. Right,
Guys come here to get fixed.Guys come here to improve or to tweak.
Guys come here to be in awinning culture and then hope to parlay
(13:54):
that down the road somewhere else. And the Dodgers say, great, we're
happy to help. We want you, we love you. You're a part
of the team. We've all donewhat we can for each other. You
go and be successful. And nowthey find themselves in this position. It's
been a heavy year. This isfun. Just keep it going. They
are fun to watch, though, they really are. I mean when anytime
(14:16):
he's going runs like that, it'sfun to watch. And Mookie and Freddie
chasing and chasing the MVP and thenMookie chasing these home runs, it's it's
pretty cool. And you know, and we can't figet about Max Munsey.
Remember how awful he start to theseason was, right, I think you're
being It was horrible. Horrible. But even now hit thirty home runs,
(14:37):
got his average above two hundred,I believe now, So yeah, I
mean Max Munsey was on the verge. They were ready running out of town
right, it was a high noon. Whereas Max Munsey, he's gone back
for him and that's I mean againgoing back to the clubhouse to culture Dave
Robert trusting in him, trusting inMax. He'll find the figure out and
(15:00):
he'll come along. Now he's adangerous hitter again. Well, they'll look
around the wild NLS brought to youby so Cal Gas. Don't dance around
safety contact eight one one two businessdays before digging around your home. Go
to social gas dot com slash eightone one to learn more. Bout of
(15:20):
the hours, somebody will have achance to win tickets for the Braves and
Dodgers. You've got to win,who dis and if you don't, will
open it up for everybody. Andwhen we come back seven and a half
million bucks that's what they're trying toget rid of to stay under the tax.
God, if you're an Angel fan, how do you feel today?
Oh yeah, let's keep it moving. It's a hump day Wednesday, sun
(15:43):
is shining. Are you're feeling good. Yeah, I just want to fly
away. Come on, well,we're feeling good. I don't know about
the feeling good, But I don'tknow about the fans of the Angels.
(16:03):
I don't know how good they feel. By the way, Dodger tickets give
you a quote, a call herein about six minutes. Okay, I
want them. Okay, if youwin, you win. Who did you
get them? If you don't,will open it up for everybody. We
got the news yesterday, and youknow, you take a little time and
you process it and you try tofigure out what in God's name is somebody
doing. The Angels went forward atthe trade deadline. They acquired Lucas Giolito,
(16:25):
They did get h Randall Gritchick,They signed Hunter Renfro before the season
began, Dominic Leone, Matt Moore. They went for it. They did
it. They were in it wasill advised. Uh, you know,
hindsight is twenty twenty. We werenot second guessers. We were first to
get were theyn't do it, don'tdo it? But they did it.
(16:48):
And yeah, sadly for them,we were right, as were most people.
And it all fell apart and allwent to hell. Their goal was
to hold on to Shoheotani. Thisis where you have to wonder, if
you're Shoho Tani, what are youthinking. They go out, they make
the moves, they bring in majorleague ers. They're going for it.
They're showing show, hey, we'rein it to win it. They fall
(17:11):
out. They've traded prospects. Howgood they were we don't know, because
we really don't we know what theywere ranked in the Angels system. How
good does that make them? Wedon't know. But they traded them,
and they made these moves, andnow they decide to stay under the tax,
the competitive Baseball tax. They gotto start shedding salary because otherwise you
(17:36):
start paying twenty percent. They don'twant to do that. So they got
to dumb seven and a half milliondollars of salary. So what do they
do. They start dumping the guysthat they brought in to get under the
tax. By way, Renfro Ibelieve is what. He's either leading or
he's second in home runs for theteam right now. Yeah, I mean
(17:59):
he can play. Yeah, theyjust got oh my god, grit chick
got here recently. So here's thething. So they put them on waivers
because that'll fix everything. We putthem on waivers and somebody claims them,
that team is obligated to pay theremainder of their salary for this year.
(18:19):
But see, here's the sticking point. What if somebody doesn't claim them?
What does that mean? Well, that means that the Angels basically around the
hook for the rest of their salariesand those guys become free agents. So
that would mean the Angels would stillhave to pay them and then they could
go sign with somebody else. Now, maybe analytically they figured it all out
(18:44):
and they said, Okay, ifwe get rid of these guys, we
know somebody will claim them. Weknow that because we've done our homework,
so we'll be off the hook. But the question becomes, what if nobody
claims them? What if they allpass through waivers? I mean, the
Dodgers are second to last in thewaiver order. So you go, well,
(19:06):
you would like Geolito, would you? Was he lights out with the
Angels? Well, I know thatguy. Oh stop it, no,
I'm saying stop it. You wantedhim before he went to the Angel the
guy that don't say I want Iwant? Who did I want? Every
(19:26):
time? We want what about thatLewis wanted Jordan Montgomery. That's who I
wanted. You mentioned Giolito too,I remember, yeah, I said,
Jordan Montgomery. No, get awake, Kevin. That lightning about to strike
that boy right now. No,I'm telling you I did not get caught
up in the hometowns on here.He will say the same thing you.
(19:47):
You cried for Giolito. You askedhim every time? What about Giolito?
What about Giolito? I don't knowwhat show you were listening to. I
wanted the guy from the Cardinals Montgomery. That was my guy. Yeah,
yes you did. That was mynumber one guy. That was my number
one guy. Rod not far behind. That was Geelito. Point being dress,
(20:15):
the point being this, Uh,they may they make clear waivers.
Then what are the Angels are gonnado? Now? They're gonna pay the
guys they can't get under the taxand they're really screwed. Yeah, all
their plan and their ploy doesn't work. Yeah, it's an odd time of
(20:37):
year too, right, it's anodd time to do this. I know
they gotta do it this time. But but but man, if you're a
team in the hunt, are yougoing after these guys? I know the
Dodgers. Look, they kicked thetires, but it will get to the
diet. But you're saying it'll getpast the Dodgers and the Braves if it
gets back to the Angels, andnobody claims yeah, you think the Dodgers
(21:02):
would pass stay on on and on, not on obviously on the other one.
But do you think they would passif Gelito was sitting there knowing that
the because it's the Dodgers are thesecond to last and then it's the Braves,
right, yeah, I believe itis m M in the order.
Do you think the Dodgers would passon Gelito it came down to that he
(21:22):
was still there? I don't thinkhe and and you know, Kevin,
you follow the Angels much closer thanI do. I don't think Gee,
Alito with lights out with the Angels. I thought it was just fix people.
Well that there's that he was okay, it was nothing special. But
if you're a team like the Dodgers, and you know that the Dodgers have,
you know, pitching issues just ingeneral, if there's a quality starter
(21:47):
available like Gelito, you'd pick himup. You'd definitely take a flyer on
him and you'd assume he wanted tocome to you because he's a homesown guy.
And right, could they fix him, that's the question. Maybe they
could, maybe, and if theycan't stash him in the bullpen or whatever,
it doesn't cost you much, bea low risk move. So there's
no reason why they wouldn't want tobring him in. If he were to
(22:07):
clear waivers and be a free agent. Well, well, and there's this
Kevin he you know, if he'sclearing waivers all the way through, they
could get down to the Dodgers.Absolutely, they could certainly claim if they
wanted to. Yeah, they couldget He could get that far down if
nobody else wants to take a flyeron him. I find it hard to
believe that nobody else in this racewould take a flyer though. Yeah,
(22:30):
there's too many teams, teams fightingfor a wild cart spot. There's just
too many teams in the hunt thatI find it hard believe too. But
can you remember a time during theseason after a team and maybe you can,
because it's not striking me off thetop of my head, after a
team went for it, made themove, made the push, said we're
(22:51):
all in here are chips all ofa sudden said wait a minute, Okay,
didn't work. We're gonna star dumpingguys immediately. I don't remember of
time in baseball where that's happening. In years past, yes, when you
had the two trade debtlines. Look, the Dodgers took advantage of that,
the Red Sox trade with the CarlCrawford and all those guys, Adrian Gonzalez.
They made a run for it.They knew they were terrible, they
(23:11):
were going nowhere, and they dumpedall that salary to the Dodgers to clear
all the money off of their books. The problem is, you don't have
that second waiver trade debtline anymore. So now teams like the Angels are just
cutting guys loose to try to getunder the luxury tax threshold. So in
today's current climate, Fred, no, But in past years, yes,
if you're a fan of the Angels, you are Kevin. Yes, Okay,
(23:33):
if you're a fan, you supportthe team, you're with them,
and that there are Angel fans andprobably a good number of them. How
do you feel when you see yourclub is doing this? It's sad,
embarrassing that you call yourself Los Angelesseven embarrassing it. That's how you really
feel. Ki the Los Angeles Angels, huh. You know. Only other
big market team that operates this waythe Dodgers when they had a cheap ass
(23:57):
owner, the last ownership group, and they got him out of here quickly,
thankfully. But Kevin, we spendmoney. What are you talking about?
Yeah, yeah, you spend moneyirresponsibly. You don't buy the way
you say you spend money. Askyour minor leaguers how you spend money that
was low? Yeah, oh yeah, you're scouting department. If you're scouting
(24:22):
department, if you even have one, ask them how you use your assets.
It's great to get Anthony Rendon, who was, like, you know,
had a great year because he wasa pending free agent, a contract
year. Then he comes here andall of a sudden he can't stay healthy.
Albert Pool also was over the hill. Josh Hamilton, all these guys
that you spend money on the bigleague club to make splashes on press releases,
who makes no impact on Mike Trout? Yeah? Great, and what
(24:47):
is what has that done for you? Mike Trout has had what played in
three playoff games in his twelve yearcareer. I feel bad for him who
was the left handed pitcher years agothey signed from Texas C. J.
Wilson. Yeah, how about himsolid too before he ended up getting hurt
and flaming out. Yeah. Butyou know the problem is for it they
keep trying to fix Vernon Wells.I can go down the list of all
the veteran guys they trade for orbring in just trying to make a splash
(25:11):
as opposed to cultivating. You talkabout it all the time and how the
Dodgers built from within outside of MikeTrout and maybe a couple of others who
are angel mainstays that they've actually broughtin through the pipeline over the last decade.
Name a picture that they've groomed that'sbeen fantastic and state with him for
the last ten years. I can'texactly, you know, that's their problem.
(25:32):
You know. The one guy theythought would be a terrific outfielder for
him was Joe Adele. And how'sthat working out for him? Well,
it's working out great when he's introuble a exactly, he's fantastic there.
That doesn't help, No, itreally doesn't. No. I mean he
comes up here and he doesn't looklike he can play. And you traditionally,
by the way, as the Angelshave the worst minor league system in
(25:52):
baseball, regardless you have, whetheryou have your own picks, compensatory picks
over the years, so you're notdrafting and scouting and developing. Well,
eye there, and that's the hallmarkof a great organization. That's their issue.
Well, like Kevin, because thatputs a bow on it, did
ask I wasn't gonna say anything. That's good God, Yeah, I just
(26:14):
think I would. I'd really bestruggling if I'm a fan of the Angels,
and now I don't think Otani comesback. He definitely doesn't come back.
Okay, this is a this isa mess. Okay, So nicking
at it in front of his eyes, it's like I'm witnessing a mess.
Why on God's earth would I evercome back to this? Okay? And
now carry to this point. Ifyou remember the big story before the season
(26:37):
began, which I think excited thefolks that support the Angels, Ida Murino
had decided to sell the team andhe was entertaining offers for the team,
and apparently he said there were somegood offers, but then he had a
change of heart. He had remorseand he said, no, I'm still
(26:59):
here. I'm not going anywhere afterobserving this. Do you think he regrets
it? And I'll toss this inthat heart gonna change in a minute again,
I regret it. I'll tell youthat. Oh if my Mike is
still on my bed, Yeah, that was your outside voice too, And
I'll and I'll throw this into themix. Maybe he wanted to hold on
(27:21):
for one more year because he knewOtani basically brought revenue into the franchise,
right marketing and sponsorship. Okay,if in fact they lose Otani if he
goes, and now we, asVick would say, we don't know what's
inside the mind of Otani's han.But but if he goes, do you
(27:45):
think arte Moreno is going to holdonto this thing? Or do you think
he'll say, you know, Iloved the game not as much as I
thought I did, or you know, I loved it for one more year
and now I don't love it asmuch anymore. Do you think he held
onto the team so he could getwhat he could get this season because of
Otani hoping he'd stay and bringing inthat revenue. Those marketing and sponsorship dollars.
(28:10):
But if he leaves, the messthat's been created, and whether it's
true or not, perception is thegame here. The perception that they're dumping
guys for salary reasons is a salarydump. It's embarrassing. It hurts the
franchise. If you're a fan ofthe Angels, you can't sit there and
go, I get what they're doing. No, you don't. You do
(28:32):
not understand why your team is notcompetitive. You do not understand why your
team fell out of the race. You do not understand why they didn't get
something for the only guy they couldtrade for last year. Get something,
start rebuilding. Because I'll make thispoint, Rodney, and I've said it
in the past in this market,Number one is to win in this city,
(28:57):
you've got to win. You alsoneed stars, and thirdly, you
have to be exciting. I don'tknow if thirdly is a word, but
you have to be exciting. Yougotta win. You need stars, you
gotta be exciting. But at thetop of that list is you gotta win.
(29:18):
I don't care how many stars youhave if you don't win. And
that's the problem here. They havestars, but they don't win. One
could argue that there they can beexciting, but they don't win, and
you're right. I think he Ithink he had the change of heart because
(29:40):
for a moment he believed that thiswas going to be the year. This
could be the year where everything fallsinto place. So Tani, he's on
the last year of his contract.I gotta see this through. I gotta
be there, because God forbid Ileave, he goes off, and I'm
not there to witness him signing backwith the Angels. So I gotta be
here to do whatever I can tomake sure he does. We're gonna go
all in at the trade deadline. We're gonna get to the playoffs because that's
(30:03):
what we promised our fans. That'swhat we promised Mike Trouton and Shohei Otani.
And now that it went south, and now that it looks like Otani
is gonna be gone, because whywould he stay, I think Artie Murano
goes I got another change of heart. Who's up for bid that? Who's
up? Where are those offers?Bring those offers. I'm gonna entertain those

hostile environments when the crowd is againstyou. Mary Ella, Oh I try,
I try. All right, Katie, are you ready? I'm ready,
(33:52):
and I'm rooting for Katie. I'msorry, I'm not well, Yeah
you are, Katie, But Imean you have to be competitive. Listen,
if they've listened, they know what'sI got one right? In the
like six times I've played this game, so all right, well, I

two thousand and fifteen NBA Draft twothirteen, two thousand and fifteen NBA Draft.
(34:37):
Who do you think thirteenth? StephCurry? No, yeah, Clay
Thompson. Let's stop, okay,Mary Ellen, your job is not to
agree or disagree with Rodney. Youcan't go yes, no, you just
have to say a name. Youshould have to say a name, Mary
Ellen, okay, Paul George,No, mary Ella, do you want
(35:00):
to say a name? Say anyname? Make up a name. Lebron,
James Lebron. Okay, you madeup a name. That was not
the correct answer. No, notJannis. Here's the next clue, slick,
It's not slick. I was thesec sixth man of the year in
(35:22):
my only season at Kentucky in twentyfifteen, oh only season at Kentucky.
Devin book there it is. Okay, So, Mary Ellen, I got
your running shoes on night, youknow, how it works. Right,
Yeah, okay, now you're ready. Here we go. Here we go,
(35:45):
right in your wheel house. Okay, all right, let's go.
I won two super Bowls in myNFL career, two of them. Yeah,
well it's not Tom Brady. Okay, good, it's not Tom Brady.
(36:08):
Here's your next clue. Yeah, thank you very much. I'd led
the NFL in passing yards in twentyfourteen and twenty eighteen passing yards. Yes,
say any name, Mary, Okay, good, try, but no
Ben Roethlisberger. And there you go. All right, So Mary Ellie,
(36:35):
No, you're still alive. MaryEllie, you're doing what you got it.
You're still in the hut. You'restill good. You're still good.
I'll tell you who was not good. Katie. I know I got caught
up in one of them. Youwere like twenty thirteen, and I was
like, that's not that long ago. Oh god, that was a decade
ago. Okay, all right, and I got lost my thoughts. Okay,
Katie, are you reading the hell? Yeah? Yeah, no,
(36:55):
I'm reading that. That's an excuse. I'm just the game. You're great,
Katie, You're super. Here's thenext one. I've made ten All
Star teams in my MLB career.Ten of them. You can count them.
There are ten Mark Vans like okay, both are wrong. Okay,
(37:20):
hey, mary Ella, let meask you a question. Can I ask
you a question? How about asuper clue for it? You like to
go fishing? Oh ye? Allright? Yeah, I mean I understand
what you're doing, Fred, andit's nice to you. But did he
(37:42):
not say, Rodney, I'm notgiving you any clues, no circus,
no circumstances. Am I giving cluestoday? Because the stakes are too high?
That's what he said would be fair. Well, I just want you
know what I thought. I mean, mary Ella obviously is learning. I
just wanted to grease the kids alittle bit for that. Okay, thank
you. I really appreciate that. All Right, you're in the game,
(38:02):
marry Ella. Now let's go again. Okay. Okay, Katie, nice
job by you on that one.I mean yesterday, you're like, I'm
going to get a question in thereand it's going to be look like maybe
this is it. Oh no,tomorrow will be no your chargers, Yeah
yeah, okay, yes, thereyou go. No pressure, Katie or
your chargers. All right, thisgame, I mean thirteen pro Bowls and
(38:23):
my Hall of Fame football career Rickfar both are wrong. Good try Katie,
Steve Young, Joe Montana both arewrong. And Katie of course went
with a charger wrong of course.Okay, Philip Rivers, not Philip Rivers.
(38:44):
That was my next guest. Allright, here here's your next clue.
Here we go, mary Ella, because I know you'll know this.
I let the NFL and tackles threetimes, and I hold the record for
most tackles in a career. Yeah, most tackles in a career. Mm
(39:05):
hmmm, Oh my gosh, Ihave no idea. Okay, Lewis,
Yes, although that was the firsttime I think I've ever heard you have
a question mark at the end ofyour answer. Yeah. I wasn't quite
(39:29):
sure, but then it was.I brought out my Vincent price laugh for
you too. All right, Somary Ella, do you know what this
means? You know what this means? Yeah, yeah, it means mary
Ella, you came up short, just a little bit, not as short
(39:52):
as me. Though. You knowthat you were in eighty you were null
and void like most No, that'snot true, Katie and mary Ella.
You were in it. You gotone right, We really appreciate you listening
and trying today. Now here's whatyou gotta do. Don't be sad,
don't be sad. Mary Ella? All right, okay, all right,
(40:15):
I'm gonna count to three. Iwant you to hang up, and then
I want you to dial again.Okay, okay, one, two,
three, go mary Ella. Okay. So mary Ella didn't win, but
that means we opened the tickets upfor everybody. So mary Ella called right
(40:37):
back. If mary Ella calls bat, she has a chance to win.
And then if you don't win thishour, we'll give them away again next
hour. Eight six, six, nine, eight, seven, two five
seventy Rodney, what caller number willgo to the game? Number seven?
All right,
