Speaker 1 (00:00):
And now an exclusive interview with David Bassey for Dodger Talking.
It is a big night at Dodgers Stadium. As two
time World Series champion, two time World Series Champion, a
big part of the Dodgers two world championships in twenty
twenty and twenty twenty four is being celebrated tonight with
a babblehead.

Speaker 2 (00:21):
And it's a.

Speaker 1 (00:21):
Blake trying palooza these days because Rodoware now has a
new Blake trying to shirt out as well, and the
man himself joins us number forty nine. Blake, thanks a
lot for the time. The goateee is in a well
formed tonight for the first pitch. Hi, Dave, Hey, great
to be with you, Blake. I know it's an exciting
night for you. The babblehead is one thing, but just

(00:43):
to be celebrated, it's got to feel good.

Speaker 3 (00:46):
It's so awkward for me. I think my family enjoys
it a lot. They're excited to be here for it.
My kids are really nervous to throw out first pitch
in front of the stadium full of people.

Speaker 2 (00:55):
Addison probably more Southern crew, so we'll see how they do.
Isn't it wild?

Speaker 1 (00:59):
Just the last I don't know, eighteen months for you,
your family, and for this team. It just seems like
a lot has happened for the trin and family and
obviously for this team.

Speaker 2 (01:10):
Yeah, I mean, life goes on.

Speaker 3 (01:12):
You know, we try to make the most with each day,
and you know it's easier looking back and seeing at
the blessings and success that God's brought our family.

Speaker 2 (01:19):
And this organization.

Speaker 3 (01:22):
And you know, today's just another one of those memories
that I look back on in ten years and I'm
sitting home with my family, watching my kids take on
their passions and dreams and we can share memories of today.

Speaker 1 (01:32):
Last night was a nice night for the Dodgers and
for the Bullpen. I don't expect you to reveal too much,
but what prompted you to have that talk and be
in the middle of the circle of those relievers yesterday?

Speaker 2 (01:45):
Honestly, I have nobody was talking about Dave. I saw
it with my own eyes. What are you talking about?

Speaker 1 (01:51):
The Dodger relievers? They had a meeting before the game
and you were there and there was some words exchange,
and Alex Vessia was there as well.

Speaker 2 (01:59):
You're interviewing this guy right now, do you want to
take over. Nope, you can take it from here. Uh
E copy done right there?

Speaker 1 (02:07):
Yeah, there we go, There we go. But obviously I've
seen that happen before. I saw it in Tampa or
on this last road trip where you guys get in
a circle before series and have a group talk.

Speaker 3 (02:17):
It's no different than like hitters meetings or you know,
starters having meetings with their catchers. You know, like we're
a unit down there, and it's like we're all one
We're all one team obviously, but within our team we
have you know, pockets of talent, you know, us being
relievers or we've got accountability and and we try to
challenge each other and we do it in a constructive

(02:37):
way with love, and we all understand that, like we're
trying to be a better version of ourselves.

Speaker 2 (02:41):
As the league adapts to us, we have to adapt.

Speaker 3 (02:43):
And as we uh you know, have shortcomings and our performances,
you know, we we lift each other up and challenge
each other be better. And it's no different than anywhere
else in the game. So yeah, sorry, I didn't really
understand what you're saying at first, but you know, sometimes
throughout the year, you know, we just sit and bring
up some some good points and then and try to
get better from him.

Speaker 1 (03:01):
What's it been like for you to watch two young
relievers really come into their own this year in Bank
Conspiras and Jack Dryer. It feels like they have really
been thrown into the fire and have responded well.

Speaker 3 (03:13):
The cool thing for Jack is he was a part
of the team last year and he got thrown into
some some interesting situations as a rookie, and he did
a great job, and he learned from a lot and
he learned how to process, you know, some of the
mental preparation of the game last year, and he's been
great for us this year. It's not easy having to
do what he's been you know, asked to do, but
I think if you're asking him, he.

Speaker 2 (03:33):
Wouldn't have it any other way.

Speaker 3 (03:34):
He's a he's a team first guy, and and the
team does a great job of taking care of us
as as arms, and you know, he's it's very unique
to have to start to open to close to long
relieve and high leverage, low leverage eat up innings and Jack,
you know, Jack's kind of been doing the same and
to have two young guys both from opposite sides of

(03:56):
the you know, the.

Speaker 2 (03:57):
Spectrum, one being left to one being alrighty and.

Speaker 3 (04:01):
Being really really successful with their with their game planning
and execution. It really it blesses the organization, blesses our
arms and gives us opportunity to run other guys out
the following day or later that night.

Speaker 1 (04:13):
Blake Trenton is our guest in front of first pitch,
it says, Bobblehead Night. He's got a big smile. Family first,
his family's out here going to celebrate Blake trent and
Babblehead Night together. Now, the big guy, Clayton Kershaw just
walked by and last night he said after the win,
it's still August. But for people like David Vassy, I
have the mantra now.

Speaker 2 (04:34):
There is no tomorrow.

Speaker 1 (04:35):
Does there have to be a sense of urgency, maybe
being a little uncomfortable even though you guys have been
through so much.

Speaker 3 (04:42):
No, I don't I think urgency. Can I mean push
you one way or the other? And there's really no need.
I mean, we're a team that's been here since I've
been here, a team's been in the run for a
World Series for the last This will be the sixth
year and it's not like it's new for us that
we have to press to get somewhere.

Speaker 2 (05:02):
It's just take care of what we're good at.

Speaker 3 (05:04):
Doing, you know, from a hitting standpoint, getting quality of bats,
moving guys over, driving runs in, fouling off tough pitches
to get to your pitch. I mean, they all know
what they're doing up there. And you know, for us
as pitchers, it's just getting ahead of guys and putting
them away early. And when we do all of our things,
and you know, they bring talent over here, that that
stuff takes care of itself when we're doing our job.

(05:24):
So I don't think there's any pressing. You know, from
a media standpoint, people will always try to write articles.
And this is not a slight towards anybody, but like
you guys only see from the one side of the lens,
and then from from the sidelines here and inside the clubhouse,
the way these guys go about their business, there's it's
not like the process is bad. It's not like the
mindset is bad. I mean, baseball happens and every year,

(05:47):
and this is this is true. I've been on teams
where you're chasing other other teams every year. Teams know
who who the top teams are in the league, and
we're one of those teams every single year, and so
we are going to get everybody's best bullet and try
to prove something against us. The team we're facing exceptionally
great team, and they've been great for years since I've
been here.

Speaker 2 (06:07):
And you know, like they're hungry they want to beat us.

Speaker 3 (06:11):
But it also brings out the best in us too,
because we want to hold a standard and we want
to be a legacy for as long as we can.

Speaker 2 (06:17):
So there's zero I've you brought it up.

Speaker 3 (06:22):
I would never even give life to it because I
don't think there's any press. And one thing I was
most impressed about when I first got here is in
twenty one, the first full season, we went through a
stretch where we lost like seventeen of twenty something games,
and it felt like we were like to me, I've
been on teams when that happens, and it's just like
hide your head and figure out how.

Speaker 2 (06:39):
To get a win. And everybody's walking around like we
were on a winning streak.

Speaker 3 (06:42):
And it's it's the DNA that's bred from the top
with Andrew down through Dave.

Speaker 2 (06:47):
Who's the pulse in the.

Speaker 3 (06:48):
Clubhouse to the players who feed off that energy. You know,
there's times where it looks like it's tough, and for
the fans, I'm sure it's frustrating, but you know, have
faith in this organization and the faith in the players
who have been there and done that. There's been no
other team in the twenty twenties here that's that's been
to the World Series more than us, and and it's
it takes a lot of a lot of talent, It
takes a lot of good fortune, it takes a lot

(07:10):
of you know, big plays in health and when all
things are working.

Speaker 2 (07:13):
I don't know if there's any better team in.

Speaker 3 (07:14):
Baseball than the Dodgers, but there's a lot of very
talented teams out there. So you can't just bank on
the talents on the roster. We have to perform, and
you're gonna start seeing that. And I felt like last
night was a great step.

Speaker 1 (07:24):
All right, Blake, thank you. You calm me down. You
and Kershaw calmed me down. I was sweating over I
was I was. I was nice.

Speaker 3 (07:32):
It's nice when your eyebrows relaxed and you don't have
an angry taste.

Speaker 1 (07:36):
I bring the edge.

Speaker 2 (07:39):
We're on the edge of this interview, I think we're
about done.

Speaker 1 (07:41):
All right, sounds good.

Speaker 2 (07:43):
Enjoy the night, Blake. I'll be there in spirit. You're
a man, Dave.

Speaker 1 (07:46):
There is my guy, Blake, trying in. Don't ever doubt him, Dave,
