Speaker 1 (00:00):
And now an exclusive interview with David Bassey for Dodger Talking.
Speaker 2 (00:06):
I'm here with my favorite Dodger reliever, Blake trying In.
Even though the lefty Tanner Scott is looming nearby. I
did that to hurt him. But also full disclosure, Blake
Trenon's my guy.
Speaker 3 (00:18):
Thank you, Dave Skiff Tanner a little praise on how
electric he was last night.
Speaker 4 (00:22):
I don't apparently have a two pay day. What's up
with that?
Speaker 1 (00:24):
I do not have one.
Speaker 4 (00:26):
It looks a little suspicious.
Speaker 1 (00:27):
It's great Bosly magic right there.
Speaker 4 (00:29):
Anyways, baseball what we got.
Speaker 2 (00:31):
We're on the eve of Clayton Kershaw's last regular season start.
Blake trying In, what have you thought about just the
celebration of a guy that not only is a great
pitcher but a great person.
Speaker 3 (00:42):
I mean, you just kind of remember all the all
little things over the years, you know, like when I
signed here in twenty I remember vivid leaking on the
phone and talking with a couple of different players from
different teams, and kursh was one of the guys that
I wanted to talk to and get a feel for
the culture of the Dodgers clubhouse. And it probably seems
weird at the time, you know, being kind of like
a middle of the road guy that the Dodgers were
(01:03):
looking to bring in and help out. But it meant
a lot to me. You know, he took time to
get on the phone with me. And you know, ever since,
I've been able to watch a guy add onto his
career that I already knew was a Hall of Fame career,
and he's added two World Series trophies to his resume,
and I think he's accomplished about anything you can accomplish
in this game as a pitcher, and he will go
(01:24):
down as the best.
Speaker 4 (01:25):
Picture of my generation, in my era.
Speaker 3 (01:27):
And that's no slide against anybody else. But I don't
think I've ever seen anybody have eighteen years of just
very good, you know pitching. You look at the statistics,
there's never been a down year and it's a rare thing.
Speaker 4 (01:42):
So you know what he's.
Speaker 3 (01:46):
Battled through, you know, back arm the things he's gone
through and grinded throughout his career to compete and help
his teams win, Like.
Speaker 4 (01:55):
It's it's pretty impressive.
Speaker 3 (01:57):
He's very diligent in his preparation, and I think a
lot of young guys have benefited from watching him Blake.
Speaker 2 (02:03):
We're starting to hear more stories like yours that Clayton
has become a more inclusive teammate or has been an
inclusive teammate, even to guys that just show up for
you know that ten day period. Is that something that
we're starting to appreciate how inclusive he is to the
twenty sixth man or a super reliever like yourself.
Speaker 3 (02:23):
Well, he's a starter and I'm a reliever, So I
can only speak from my experience and maybe experiences that
guys share with me. But I know he's got a
heart of generosity, and it does not surprise me if
those are the stories that are coming out saying that
he's really been impactful for guys who have been up
for a few days. I get to talk to some
of the young guys in the pen that have come
up this year and how he's been nice and helped
them out.
Speaker 4 (02:44):
So, yeah, Clayton's a great guy. He's going to be
missing this clubhouse for sure.
Speaker 1 (02:49):
He let Emit Sheen and Jack Dryer stay with him
for a week.
Speaker 4 (02:53):
I have heard that.
Speaker 3 (02:54):
I have heard that that's that's pretty cool, you know,
being a rookie and getting a chance to have a
sleepover with.
Speaker 2 (03:01):
Uh, separate rooms with the goat. You know, so you
like snell Zilla speaking his language like that, making goat noises?
Speaker 4 (03:13):
Is that what Snell does?
Speaker 3 (03:14):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (03:15):
He bads at him like a goat like you just did.
Speaker 4 (03:17):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (03:17):
When I have my goats here, I like to give
it a name, and I think next year I might
name it Clayton. It's been like I've called it Tom
or Wayne. Well, there's a few goats out there, so
I gotta I gotta think. Right, next year I can
call it. I can call it Kersh.
Speaker 4 (03:33):
So yeah, he's he's He is definitely the goat of
our era.
Speaker 2 (03:36):
How emotional do you believe it'll be tomorrow here in Seattle?
Considering there were a lot of emotions at Dodger Stadium?
Do you believe it'll be as emotional for the group
of guys that are wearing the same uniform.
Speaker 4 (03:48):
No, I say no, only in the aspect that.
Speaker 3 (03:53):
In our mind and in his mind, we are focused
on winning a World Series. So when we hold that
trophy up, then it'll become emotional. And he can write
off with three World Series championships, three s youngs or
how many things you have somewhere between three and eight
Sy youngs.
Speaker 1 (04:09):
Yeah, so three size and one MVP.
Speaker 4 (04:11):
Yeah. I Rember the MVP year twenty fourteen.
Speaker 3 (04:13):
I had to make a start against him, so.
Speaker 4 (04:16):
Yeah, he's uh.
Speaker 3 (04:18):
I think it'll get emotional when the job's done. So,
you know, doing it at home I think is heavy
because you are staring at what you've started at for
so long.
Speaker 4 (04:28):
I'm for him.
Speaker 3 (04:28):
I'm sure at some point tomorrow it'll become, you know,
realised the last regular season, But I think the biggest
thing is like, what does it look like down the
road here and how are we gonna win a World Series?
And that's his focus, it's our focus, and I believe
at the end of it is when we will all
kind of, you know, feel the presence of what's about
(04:49):
to come down the road with him not being here anymore.
Speaker 2 (04:52):
Lake trending has been such a big part of the
Dodgers two World Series championships in twenty and twenty four
I wouldn't expect anything less this year. Do you feel
like things are starting to go in the right direction
for your bullpen?
Speaker 1 (05:04):
For yourself?
Speaker 2 (05:06):
It feels like everybody's head is a little bit in
a better spot.
Speaker 4 (05:09):
Yeah, I know.
Speaker 3 (05:10):
I know from a fan standpoint, you know, all you
guys out there listening, it's a little bit frustrating seeing
things how they've gone this year. I promise you guys,
it's a it's not without effort. We're we're doing our
best to get this thing righted. And I believe that
this last like two weeks has been really good for us.
You know, even though like you'll see, you know, a
run here or there. Focus on the little things and
(05:30):
that's what we're focusing on. And it's it's one of
those things where you've got things that you're accomplishing within
the game to make sure that you're better prepared for
the playoffs. And so when we when we make a
good run this postseason, our goal is to put more
smiles in LA than frowns that have been you know,
coming down lately. I get it, fans, I totally get it.
You have every right to be frustrated that you know
(05:52):
we're doing our best.
Speaker 2 (05:53):
I can tell you this talking to your teammates on
the record, off the record, they have never lost faith
in you or your bullpen.
Speaker 3 (06:01):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (06:02):
I haven't either.
Speaker 3 (06:02):
I think it's it's obviously the challenging part of being
an athlete is the ups and downs. But you know,
the downs make the up so much better because if
you didn't have the contrast with.
Speaker 4 (06:10):
The two, you wouldn't appreciate your success. And you know,
I think, uh yeah, it's it's like it's why you
love and hate sports.
Speaker 3 (06:17):
You know. It's like if if you only want all
the time, then you take for granted, you know, the
things that the success that you have, and and so
like having a little bit of sting kind of kind
of pushes you and and encourage you in the right
way to you know, accomplish some great things. I think, truly,
I believe we're in a better position this year to
(06:37):
win a World Series in a year past. And uh
so we're excited. We got two more games here against
Seattle and then head back home and figure out who are.
Speaker 4 (06:46):
Matched up against.
Speaker 3 (06:47):
So uh yeah, it should be it should be interesting
the next couple of days around baseball.
Speaker 2 (06:51):
Don't forget one thing I'm a big believer in resumes
local credibility, and Blake Trendon has built a lot of credit.
Don't never forget who Blake Trnnon is and Blake Trynon.
Don't forget who you are.
Speaker 4 (07:04):
And don't forget who Dave.
Speaker 1 (07:06):
That's a the collar, the shot collar,
