Speaker 1 (00:00):
And now an exclusive interview with David Bassey for Dodger Talker.

Speaker 2 (00:06):
Well, the Dodgers have a new starting third basement today
in the finale of.

Speaker 3 (00:09):
This series, and we're here to introduce you.

Speaker 2 (00:12):
To Buddy Kennedy, who is the Dodgers starting third basement.
They claimed him recently and here he is in the
show today. Buddy, thanks a lot for the time and
congratulations on being a Dodger.

Speaker 1 (00:22):
Awesome, Thank you. I appreciate you having me here.

Speaker 3 (00:24):
How has it been so far this morning?

Speaker 2 (00:26):
I'm sure Dave Roberts, let you know yesterday you would
be starting today. How have you processed such a quick
turn of events here?

Speaker 1 (00:33):
Yeah, you know, pretty quick, Dave told me yesterday at MVP.
You know, so from there on I kind of just
got my mind right, kind of did the routine that
you know, I knew normally starting, so, you know, just
kind of just taking it all in, being myself and
you know, just write a.

Speaker 3 (00:47):
Play some baseball today.

Speaker 2 (00:48):
That's the biggest thing I've heard from young guys. No
matter if you're on a new team or in the
same organization, you have to find a routine. I'm sure
that helped you today.

Speaker 1 (00:57):
Oh, for sure, for sure. I mean when I was
younger in my career, I didn't really have a routine,
just kind of showed up and played and have some
good games, have some bad games. But I think overall,
as I developed in my career so far up to
this point, I think just having a routine, whether it's
you know, putting on those socks the right way or
you know, little superstition things. But yeah, you know it
felt good. Woke up today, took the fiance to the

(01:17):
airport and you know, got here around like eight, did
my routine, took my time, did some ground balls, and
now you know, ready to go for game time.

Speaker 3 (01:24):
That's the biggest thing too. Don't rush, Oh, don't rush.
You can't this game.

Speaker 1 (01:27):
Especially you rush, everything's gonna speed up on you, even
if it's off the field, all on the field. So
just trying to keep cool, calm and collected. And you know,
see where it takes it.

Speaker 2 (01:35):
You mentioned superstitions or just your routine. What is it for,
Buddy Kennedy.

Speaker 1 (01:40):
I have to put my cleats on left to right,
not right to left, socks left to right, not right
to left, certain time, have to do stretches at a
certain time, depending on the day game or night game. Yeah,
so it kind of just a little superstitious with all
my I've always been my entire career. So if I
don't do that, I think my whole day is off.

Speaker 3 (02:00):
Really yeah, I.

Speaker 2 (02:01):
Don't even feel like that superstition. It's it's actually paying
attention to details.

Speaker 3 (02:06):
Absolutely.

Speaker 1 (02:06):
I think in this game and I think in life,
you have to pay attention to detail. So you know,
just as long as you can do that consistently, you'll
be your internal clock, your body, everything will be on
the same flow. So I think for that overall just
puts you in a good spot mentally and physically.

Speaker 2 (02:21):
Buddy Kennedy will be starting at third base for the
Dodgers today. You actually were at Dodgers Stadium last weekend,
but you were wearing a Blue Jays uniform.

Speaker 3 (02:30):
Is that a little weird for you to have this
change so quickly.

Speaker 1 (02:34):
Yeah, yeah, it definitely changed the different blues obviously, but yeah,
it was kind of surreal, you know, obviously playing against
Snell the last weekend, and then it's funny the other
day when I came in and everybody's like, oh, what's up, Buddy,
We let me just saw you a couple of days ago,
so you know it's pretty full circle. But you know,
happy to be here, happy to be part of this team,
and you know, get to meet the guys and you know.

Speaker 3 (02:55):
Have fun with him.

Speaker 2 (02:56):
Buddy Kennedy's from New Jersey and he has a connection
to a pretty good baseball player, big Eagles fan, and
that is Mike Trout.

Speaker 3 (03:04):
How did you connect with Trout?

Speaker 1 (03:05):
So we worked at the same facility, training facility when
I was thirteen. It was called the Pit, and Mike
trained late at night, around nine, and then I came
in for the early stot around eight. So then overall
he saw me working out, we'd always just say hi,
went passing each other, and then as I got older,
kind of connected with him more. And then I got

(03:26):
drafted by the Arizona and ever since then kind of
just been always clicked. Turned from you know, just working
out with Mike's and then training then at his house,
and then all of a sudden we're hunting together and
you know, living life, and you know it's pretty cool,
you know, to kind of have that in my back pocket.
He's always He's always there for me to get text
him talk about life or you know, scattering reports on guys,

(03:47):
So you know, it's pretty cool. Obviously he's done it
for a while now, at this level for about fourteen years,
so you know, have him in my back pocket. It's
it's pretty cool and you know, just always there for me.

Speaker 2 (03:58):
So have you texted him or has he texted you?
Since you're starting today for the Dodgers.

Speaker 1 (04:02):
He hasn't texted me yet. I don't think he saw
it yet, but I'll probably get a text here, hopefully
a little bit because he actually just reached out when
I went up with the Jays, and uh, it's because
I know the Dodgers just played Angels, so I kind
of just missed him. But but yeah, I'll definitely talk
to him either today or tomorrow, just you know, shoot
the shoot the stuff and see what happens.

Speaker 2 (04:21):
Buddy Kennedy is our guest. He's starting at third base
for the Dodgers today. Before I let you go, Since
your buddies with Mike Trout and you're from Jersey, does
that mean you're an Eagles fan?

Speaker 3 (04:30):
Too?

Speaker 1 (04:30):
Oh? Absolutely, absolutely, die diehard Eagles fan, always been. I'm
I'm a Philly sports guy in general. I grew up
you know, idolizing the Philadelphia Phillies, and then you know
the Flyers and Eagles and Sixers as well. So I'm
always a Philly sports kid. But yeah, diehard Eagles fan.
Hopefully they can take care of business this year and
see where they end up at the end of the year.

Speaker 2 (04:49):
Yeah, it doesn't seem like Mike Trout would take you
under his wing and be friends with you if you
were not an Eagles fan.

Speaker 3 (04:55):
Exactly, exactly.

Speaker 1 (04:55):
He is very strict on his friends, especially when it
comes to their football teams. I'll tell you that, all.

Speaker 2 (05:00):
Right, buddy, thanks a lot for the time. Great to
meet another Philly guy. That means you bring the edge.
I won't mess around with you. I know how you
guys are.

Speaker 1 (05:08):
I appreciate it.

Speaker 3 (05:08):
Just blue collar and you.

Speaker 1 (05:09):
Know, work hard.

Speaker 2 (05:10):
Hey today baseball then Jim Tann laundry.

Speaker 1 (05:14):
Yeah, that's correct, Jim Tanne laundry, baseball, Jim Tann laundry,
and the offseason just straight Jim Tann laundry.

Speaker 3 (05:19):
That's awesome.

Speaker 2 (05:19):
Hey, Buddy Kennedy, thanks a lot for the time, and
we're all pulling for you today.

Speaker 1 (05:23):
Thank you, man. I appreciate it.
