Speaker 1 (00:01):
One thing about this gene is the invisible and tangibles
that they have.
Speaker 2 (00:07):
This teen is really becoming a family. Let's not play
one on Tom.
Speaker 3 (00:10):
Let's wind it.
Speaker 4 (00:11):
I love writing these guys after the show.
Speaker 3 (00:13):
So just thank you, give me are.
Speaker 4 (00:15):
Your attention, your fire and not a pistons.
Speaker 5 (00:17):
This is world champion, Dodger, world championing.
Speaker 4 (00:21):
For a small soft time they get up people. What
they want to die in a row two is special.
I'm like, yeah, it's not a headache one of them. Come,
this ball's gone. You ready to go?
Speaker 2 (00:32):
Sure?
Speaker 6 (00:33):
Hell old time, go.
Speaker 5 (00:34):
To the sun, grab your phone to get in on
the show called eight six six nine eighty seven two
five seven and go to the show. And now your
host of Dodger Talk, Tim Kakes.
Speaker 7 (00:45):
Ah, So we meet again here on rain delayed Dodger
Talk on a five seventy LA Sports and many of
you driving around, maybe outside doing some gardening, doing some
household work, doing some launch and join the Sunday by
the pool. You're looking around thinking it's hot outside, Tim,
(01:05):
blue skies everywhere we got beautiful hot weather here in
southern California could be toasty in some parts of the
South End.
Speaker 3 (01:14):
It is but the.
Speaker 7 (01:15):
Dodgers are in Kansas City, Missouri, and it is hot, humid.
Speaker 4 (01:20):
And raining as we speak.
Speaker 7 (01:23):
So we are in a rain delay because of the
weather in Kansas City at Kaufman Stadium.
Speaker 4 (01:29):
But do not worry.
Speaker 7 (01:30):
The game will start an hour later than scheduled. It
was supposed to start fifteen minutes ago at eleven ten
am Pacific. They have announced the start time of twelve
ten pm Pacific two pm Central time there in Kansas City,
so a one hour delay because of the weather.
Speaker 4 (01:49):
It will blow through.
Speaker 7 (01:50):
If you know the Midwest, you know it comes and
goes pretty quickly, the weather systems through the area, and
this one is no different.
Speaker 4 (01:57):
They saw it coming.
Speaker 7 (01:58):
They said better to wait to start the start time
of this game rather than start it up stop it
go to a randola. And the Royals do not want
to waste their starting pitcher in this game. There is
no doubt about that because he is having a great season,
Young Chris Bubik, who is really an unbelievable story, which
I want to really get into it quickly here before
(02:19):
we get to your phone calls at eight six six
nine eighty seven, two five seventy. We also got to
hear the twenty nine year anniversary and one of the
great calls in Major League Baseball history, certainly one of
the most iconic calls in Dodger history. Fernando v Alenzuela
is no hitter on this date in nineteen ninety. We
are almost a month away from the trade deadline. Yeah,
July thirty first is the Major League Baseball trade deadline.
(02:42):
As we sit here on June twenty ninth, we're a
month away and the Dodgers at atop the NL West,
are they looking to bolster their roster. There's a name
that is floating out there as a possible pitcher that
the Dodgers may be looking at at the trade deadline. Also,
the Phase two of the All Star voting begins tomorrow
(03:02):
on Dodgers dot Com. At MLB dot com, I'll tell
you which Dodgers have moved on in exactly how many
Dodgers could be going to Atlanta for the Midsummer Classic,
and what some around baseball communities are saying about the
Dodgers having so many players that could be going to
the All Star Game. But today the Dodgers will have
Justin Robleski be the bulkeeting guy for the Dodgers, that
(03:23):
he has been fantastic in whatever role he has been
asked to do by Dave Roberts and Mark Pryor in
this coaching staff, whether it starts games, whether it's a
bulkeeting guy, which he's done the last couple of times
out in his opportunities against the Rockies.
Speaker 4 (03:36):
He did that on Tuesday in coors.
Speaker 7 (03:38):
Field, and today he will do that following Luke Trevino,
who will get the start to face a couple of
left handers, and then Justin Robleski will come in and
face the rest of the lineup as the bulkanning pitcher
for the Dodgers. The Kansas City Royals are going with
a leftander by the name of Chris Bubach.
Speaker 4 (03:54):
Yes bub Ich.
Speaker 7 (03:57):
He is a fascinating story seven year old left hander
at in Northern California, Coopertino, California, the home of Apple
went to Stanford, a high draft pick, a really good prospect,
a really good young left handed arm that the Royals drafted, developed,
(04:17):
brought up in twenty twenty during the COVID season, really
took shape in twenty twenty one. Just not great stuff,
losing record er neear five twenty twenty two twenty seven starts.
He was three to thirteen with an ERA over five
and a half. It was a bad season for Chris Bubage,
(04:41):
the starter today for the Kansas City Royals. Tommy John
surgery three games into the twenty twenty three season, missed
all of basically twenty twenty three. Came back last year
and only came out of the bullpen, didn't start games.
They slow played his way back, and it's pretty good
here in twenty twenty five, his first full season back
(05:04):
from Tommy John surgery.
Speaker 4 (05:05):
He has reinvented himself.
Speaker 7 (05:09):
The arm surgery has literally made him a better pitcher
than he was pre Tommy John surgery.
Speaker 4 (05:15):
It's one of those stories.
Speaker 7 (05:18):
There a guy struggles arm injury, surgery, comes back, and
he's better than he was. He was a good pitcher,
a major league pitcher, three and thirteen, an ERA over
five and a half Tommy John surgery. He comes back
this year. He's six and five, a winning record in
a two to eighteen er. It's pretty remarkable to see
(05:41):
what he has done. It is just like that movie
Rookie of the Year, Well not just like it. That
was a kid that you know, broke his arm, hurt
his shoulder and it was in a cast and came
back and was thrown a hundred miles an hour.
Speaker 4 (05:52):
But you get the point.
Speaker 7 (05:54):
Chris Boubach okay Major League picture arm injury, Tommy John
surgery and has comeback a different pitcher and one of
the best young pitchers still only at the age of
twenty seven in the American League. And that too the
Dodgers will face today. And that's why the Royals did
not want to start the game on time, because they
want to make sure he gets an opportunity to pitch
(06:14):
the game and not go one inning and had the
game stop because of rain delay, and then they lose
them for the rest of the day. Eight six six
nine eighty seven two five seventy is a number. Eight
six six nine eighty seven two five seventy. We are
in rain delay Dodger Talk here on AM five to
seventy LA Sports and the Dodgers Audio Network. The game
will start at twelve ten Pacific, so a one hour
(06:34):
rain delay between what was supposed to be first pitch
and what will actually be first pitch Tomorrow morning, Monday
at nine a m. Pacific twelve o'clock Eastern Phase two
of the All Star voting will resume and it will
last until Wednesday at nine am Pacific twelve Eastern. You'll
(06:59):
have two full days to vote in Phase two of
the All Star voting. Now, a lot of you Dodger
fans voted. There was over eleven million total votes cast
for the All Star voting in phase one, So many
of you voted. Show Hey Otani got an automatic bid
as the top vote getter of.
Speaker 4 (07:18):
The National League.
Speaker 7 (07:19):
So many of you voted that Freddie Freeman, Tommy Edmund
Mooki Betts, Max Munsey, Will Smith, Teoscar Hernandez, and Andy
pat Has. Seven Dodgers are in the running in the
final vote here of MLB All Star voting for the
All Star Game, seven different Dodgers. Freddie Freeman's fighting it
(07:43):
out to start at first base, Tommy Evans fighting it
out in voting to start at second base, Mookie Betts
is battling it out a shortstop at the National League,
Max Munsey battling it out with Manny Machado with third
base to be the All Star starter. Will Smith battling
out to see if he'll start behind the plate in
the All Star Game, and Tai Oscar Hernandez Andy Payez,
two of the six finalists to see who will be
(08:05):
the starting three outfielders for the National League in the
Midsummer Classic. Seven Dodgers have made it to Phase two,
and that's not even counting show Hey Otani, who's already in.
There could be eight starters from the Dodgers in Atlanta
(08:25):
for the All Star Game coming up in a few weeks.
And it's interesting. You know, you're on social media and
sometimes you know what you're looking at. You know, the
algorithm what is it? Algorithm? Algorithm, excuse me, is formulated
on what you're looking at. So I'm looking at some
All Star Dodger voting and next thing, you know, a
(08:48):
real pops ub and it's a podcaster who talks baseball,
and I even know who this guy is. Not a
Dodger guy, just a baseball podcaster. Pops up on on
Instagram and he's complaining about how many Dodgers there could
be in Atlanta for the All Star Game.
Speaker 4 (09:09):
And he says, I get the Dodgers are good.
Speaker 7 (09:12):
I understand they've got a ton of talent and they
just won the World Series, But you're really telling me
we could have eight starters from the Dodgers in the
All Star Game. Yeah, that's what I'm telling you a podcaster,
because that's what could happen. Now, keep in mind, Dodger fans,
you did such a great job voting for your favorite
(09:34):
Dodgers in the first round of the All Star voting.
Speaker 4 (09:37):
It resets, so all.
Speaker 7 (09:39):
Those votes you cast for Freddie Freeman, Will Smith, Andy
Pie has all the Dodgers. It resets at zero for
every player now in phase two, So you've got to
vote again. And voting starts tomorrow at nine am Monday,
nine am Pacific and closes Wednesday at nine am. You
(10:01):
only got forty eight hours to do it, and then
they'll announce the starters on Wednesday afternoon on MLB Network
in a big All Star unveiling on the MLB Network. Again,
you have to keep voting because what you did in
the first round resets. All these Dodgers who you got
moved on to the final vote have to be voted
(10:21):
for again. Freddie Freeman is battling Pete Alonso for the
National League first base spot. Tommy Edmond is going head
to head with Kotel Marte of the Diamondbacks for the
starting second base spot.
Speaker 4 (10:34):
In the National League in the All Star Game. Mookie
Betts is.
Speaker 7 (10:38):
Going head to head with Francisco Lindor of the Mets
for the starting shortstop for the National League in the
All Star Game. Max Munsey. What a month and a half.
Max Munsey has had, Dodger fans.
Speaker 4 (10:52):
You got him to the.
Speaker 7 (10:52):
Second round of the voting. He is going head to
head with Manny Machado to see who will start for
the National League at third base.
Speaker 4 (11:00):
Will Smith.
Speaker 7 (11:01):
I mean he's going head to head against Carson Kelly
of the Cubs. No offense to Carson Kelly, who's having
a good season. Will Smith is having a really good
season and is a proven All Star. He has to
be your starter for the National League. And in the outfield,
it is a tight race. Six finalists for the National
(11:21):
League All Star voting. Juan Soto, Kyle Tucker, Ronald Lukunya,
Junior Pete Crow Armstrong of the Cubs out of here
in southern California, Harvard Westlake High School. And then the
two Dodgers Taoscar Hernandez and Andy Pajees And again shoey
(11:42):
Otani already named the starting DH for being the National
League's leading vote Getter, get out and vote, Vote Vote
Vote Dodgers dot Com slash vote Dodgers dot Com slash
vote get Freddie Friedman, Tommy Edmund, Mookie Bets, Max Muncie,
Will Smith, Taoskarz, and Andy Pajes to Atlanta as starters
(12:03):
for the National League.
Speaker 4 (12:05):
How cool would it be to see all these Dodgers.
Speaker 7 (12:12):
Starting for the National League catcher, first base, second base,
third base, shortstop. Two of the three starting spots in
the outfield have Dodger players out there. Will Smith behind
the plate, Shoe a Otani is your designated hitter.
Speaker 4 (12:29):
That would be pretty cool.
Speaker 7 (12:31):
It'd be even better if they allowed show Hey to
pitch one inning to start the All Star Game. It'd
basically be eight of the nine players on the field
for the National League Dodgers. That would look amazing. Now,
show He's not going to pitch in the All Star Game,
but it would look pretty cool optically to have the
best team in baseball. The defending World Series champions have
(12:52):
eight of the nine players out on the field for
the All Star Game in Atlanta eight sixty six nine
eight seven two five to seventy.
Speaker 4 (12:58):
So again, that opens up up Monday morning at nine am.
Speaker 7 (13:01):
Pacific, Phase two of the All Star Voting Dodgers dot
Com slash vote. Dodgers dot Com slash vote, you have
forty eight hours to get to work, Dodger fans Monday
morning nine am until Wednesday morning at nine am, to
make sure you send as many Dodgers as possible to
the All Star Game. All right, coming up, we're gonna
(13:22):
get into the Major League Baseball trade deadline. But today
is June twenty ninth, twenty twenty five, thirty five years
ago today, the Dodgers taking on the Saint Louis Cardinals
out at Dodgers Stadium. Dave Stewart already that day threw
a no hitter in the major leagues, so you had
one no hitter already completed in baseball.
Speaker 4 (13:45):
Well on that night.
Speaker 7 (13:47):
Fernando Valenzuela sporting his glasses on the mount at Dodgers Stadium,
June twenty ninth, nineteen ninety, taking on the Saint Louis Cardinals,
eight no hit ins already in the books, three outs
away from his first no hitter. Here's the great Vin
(14:07):
Scully with the final top half of the ninth inning
at Dodger Stadium, Fernando Valenzuela going to work working on
a no hitter, enjoy and so.
Speaker 3 (14:18):
It has come to this. We go to the ninth
inning here at Dodger Stadium.
Speaker 1 (14:23):
The Dodgers six runs, twelve hits, one era, the Cardinals
no runs, no hits, and three eras it is the
twenty ninth of June. In case someday long from now,
Fernando is playing this back to his grandchildren and Vince
Coleman will start it off. Coleman is grounded a short
and struck out twice. It's pass ball, away ball on
(14:47):
for Fernando had began with the Dodgers in nineteen hundred
and eighty.
Speaker 3 (14:52):
This is game number three hundred and fourteen for.
Speaker 1 (14:55):
Him in his career, and he's had some glorious moments,
but none brighter than right now.
Speaker 3 (15:01):
And a screwball high ball too.
Speaker 1 (15:04):
He has a paid crowd of thirty eight thousand, five
hundred and eighty three over thirty nine thousand in the house,
and they are here. They are riveted in their seats.
Fernando into his wind up and the two zero pitch
is in there first right. Anytime a pitch is taken
at the plate, you could almost neglect to call ball
(15:26):
or strike, because this crowd.
Speaker 3 (15:28):
Would let you know.
Speaker 1 (15:30):
In eight innings, Fernando made one hundred and seven pitches,
so he should have quite a bit of ammunition left.
The two to one pitch to comban line fowl outside.
Speaker 3 (15:41):
A third and down the line, and the crowd oohs
and ohs.
Speaker 1 (15:45):
The severity of the blow and also thinking about how
close it might have been to breaking the spell. Crowd
trying to will Fernando to get an out, and the
two to two pitch is strike three called outside corner
has coma ran up as if the bunt and he
and Jerry Lane to play on fire are nose to nose.
(16:06):
William McGhee, who has hit Fernando hard in the past
tonight struck out, lined out and grounded out, takes a
look at a pitch low ball on Fernando's one to
oh pitch to McGee outside. Fernando reading his buddy, signs
Mike Sooshi and the two oh scrooge.
Speaker 3 (16:26):
He is high ball.
Speaker 1 (16:27):
Three, Fernando back three to oh, and he is inside
ball four. So now when he needs everything he has,
he will have to pitch out of his stretch with.
Speaker 3 (16:39):
Guerrero and zeal coming out.
Speaker 1 (16:44):
There's almost some poetry in the moment to realize the
former Dodger the good friend of Fernando as a teammate,
and it is Pedro Guerrero hitting two ninety four, with
the opportunity now to break up the no hitter. McGee
with all of his talent, can't steal a no hitter
(17:05):
from first base. Pitch to Pedro Guerrero swung on and missed,
and the crowd now with more emotion following every pitch.
Fernando ready in the strike two pitch is hit back
to the box, dribbling the second Samuel on the bed
cross the first double play. Fernando Valenzuela has pitched a
(17:30):
no hitter. At ten seventeen in the evening of June
the twenty ninth, nineteen ninety.
Speaker 3 (17:38):
If you have a sombrero, throw it to the star.
Speaker 7 (17:42):
There it is the great Vinscully on the call. June
twenty ninth, nineteen ninety Fernando Valenzuela with the no hitter
over the Saint Louis Cardinals. Keep in mind, Dodger fans,
this was an older Fernando Valenzuela at that point, of
his career nineteen eighty one burst onto the scene for
(18:04):
Nando Mania.
Speaker 4 (18:06):
This was nineteen ninety.
Speaker 7 (18:08):
Fernando had slowed down as far as dominance on the
mound nineteen eighty eight, remember hurt not even on the
postseason roster for the eighty eight World Series run. Nineteen
eighty nine, he went ten to thirteen. His shoulder was
barking at him. He signed a one year, two million
dollar deal to come back in nineteen ninety with the Dodgers.
(18:30):
He was thirteen and thirteen that year, four fifty nine RORA.
But on that June ninth, excuse me, that June night,
nineteen ninety, he threw a no hitter against the Saint
Louis Cardinals, again the second no hitter that day, as
Dave Stewart had thrown a no hitter against the Toronto
Blue Jays earlier, and Mike Soosha tells the story that
(18:53):
watching it on TV, he made the comments, you see one,
now you're gonna see one in person. It was the
first time at that time in modern baseball history that
two no hitters were thrown in the same day, so
pretty remarkable. Fernando Mania nineteen eighty one Fernando Valenzuela in
(19:13):
nineteen ninety, tail end of his career with the Dodgers,
A five hundred pitcher at that time, El Toro on
the mound that June twenty ninth, nineteen ninety found it
somewhere deep inside of him and pitched a no hitter
in the Dodgers win over the Saint Louis Cardinals. And
of course we lost Fernando Valenzuela last October, way too young,
(19:37):
at the age of sixty three. All right, let's go
out to the phones before we take a break again.
We're in a rain delay here on Dodger Talk. First
pitch will start at twelve ten, so one hour later
then scheduled twelve ten Pacific, two ten Central time from
Kansas City. It'll be the Dodgers and of the Royals.
(19:58):
Ozzy long Beach, Welcome to rained the lad Dodger Talk.
Speaker 4 (20:01):
How you doing, Auzzie, yourself doing well? I'm assuming you
were around in nineteen ninety for the no hitter? Do
you remember it?
Speaker 3 (20:11):
Uh?
Speaker 2 (20:11):
You know what I was. I was actually born ninety six,
but being a big Dodger fan, I know I know
a good portion of all the history of you can
say Dodgers.
Speaker 4 (20:20):
You know, okay, all right, yeah, no doubt about it.
What you want to say?
Speaker 2 (20:25):
I just want to say, with show hey slowly, also
with a Toney coming back to pitch, would you guys
rather see him slowly?
Speaker 4 (20:34):
You know?
Speaker 2 (20:35):
Come? I would, I would prefer this is my opinion.
I would think it'd be better if he come back
as a relief for right now being you know, are
books you know, tiring as it is, oh Tony, I
think would be like a fresh relief presence and come
playoff time. I think it'll be better to unleash him.
That's just my opinion. What do you what do you guys?
Speaker 4 (20:53):
Yeah, I appreciate that. Thank you, Ozzy. I would push
back on that. You're getting a show aotime.
Speaker 7 (21:00):
The two way player pitching every five six days, he's
pitching once a week. In essence, there is no way
his body can hold up being a d hitting three
or four times a day as a designated hitter, and
then also asking him to pitch three or four days
a week as a reliever, whether it's one inning out
of the end of a game, the ninth or coming
(21:22):
in in a high leverage situation in the seventh or eighth.
There's no way you can do that and continue to
juggle the DH spot as well. So the only way
it works to have a two way player in modern
baseball like we are seeing now in twenty twenty five
is to have sho Heo Tani DH and the days
he's pitching also DH. But that's once a week. Yeah,
(21:46):
just once a week. You are physically not able to
do it as a reliever and as a designated hitter
and do it on a daily basis, It is just
not possible.
Speaker 4 (21:57):
That is asking a lot. We know Shoeo Tani is
a unicorn horn.
Speaker 3 (22:00):
But.
Speaker 7 (22:02):
Pretty pretty impressive. Eight six six nine, eight seven two
five seventy and take a break. We'll come back and
we'll get to more of your phone calls. And there's
a certain pitch of the Dodgers reportedly are looking at
at the trade deadline. They've got a lot of starting
pitchers that are hurt. How many are gonna come back
and how many are gonna come back and be good?
Speaker 4 (22:26):
We'll tell you.
Speaker 7 (22:27):
We'll look ahead to what the Dodgers may be doing
at the deadline. Dodgers in a rain delay in Kansas
City hasn't even started yet.
Speaker 4 (22:35):
First pitch will be at twelve ten.
Speaker 7 (22:37):
Dodgers will go with an opener of Luke Trevino, followed
by Justin Robleski final game in Kansas City as they
go for the series win the final game of this
six game road ship. Tim Kate's with you here until
the top of the hour on an FI seventy, LA
Sports Live everywhere on the iHeartRadio app and the Dodgers
Audio Network.
Speaker 1 (22:57):
World champions once again last year, and this is the
home of your world champion LA Dodgers.
Speaker 8 (23:04):
The only way I love to hear my Dodger game.
Speaker 4 (23:07):
Don't miss a moment all season long.
Speaker 7 (23:12):
Rain Dela Dodgers continues here on this Sunday ten. Kates
with you from our Burbank studios is we will head
out to Kansas City in about fifteen minutes. First pitch
schedule for twelve ten Pacific two ten Central Time from
the K. Kaufman Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri, Game three
of this three game set. Dodgers took the opener on
(23:34):
Friday night. The Royals snapped the Dodgers five game winning
streak with a nine to five win yesterday in Kansas City.
Showio tani with the two shutout innings in the open
as the Dodgers today go for the series win, and
how about five and one.
Speaker 4 (23:49):
Road trip, that'd be pretty impressive.
Speaker 7 (23:51):
Took three in Colorado in the sweep of the Rockies,
and to take two to three from the Kansas City
Royal to be pretty impressive. A five to one road trip.
You've built a six game lead in the division over
the San Diego Padres, a six and a half game
lead over the San Francisco Giants depending on what they
do today. The lead can build if the Dodgers can
get a win in Kansas City again. First Pitch schedule
(24:12):
now for twelve ten pm Pacific. Daniels Jewelers presents the
home run Forecast. Just go to Anti seventy LA sports
dot com keyword home run for your chance to win
a fifty dollars Daniels Jeweler's gift card purchased by predicting
the number of home runs in the next game. Daniels
Jewelers own the dream. Eight sixty six, nine eighty seven, two,
five seventy is our number here on Dodger Talk. The
(24:32):
trade deadline is just over a month away. We'll get
into what the Dodgers may or may not be doing,
and how the injuries to the guys on the injured
list right now could affect what the Dodgers ultimately decide
to do and moves they make at the deadline. Coming
up in just a couple of minutes. Scott to Bob
and Long Beach. Thank you Bob for joining us here
on rain delay Dodger Talk.
Speaker 9 (24:50):
How you doing, I'm doing great, sir, Thanks for taking
my call. Sure, I don't know concern. My situation is
about Mookie Bess. I'd rather have a player playing in
rice field betting three hundred thirty home runs and one
hundred RBIs, then have a short stop betting let's say
nine home runs and two forty or whatever I think
(25:11):
kid is. He's a little hurt, or he's getting burned
down at shortstop. I would love to see the Dodgers
putting back in right field. I know he really doesn't
want to play right field, but come on, guys, we
paid him a lot of money, and come on, what
do you think about?
Speaker 7 (25:23):
Who would you put it shortstopped in every day for
the Dodgers. Is that Miguel Rojas, Is that Tommy Edman
is that key k who do you put it?
Speaker 4 (25:31):
Short eight exactly.
Speaker 9 (25:33):
It's almost a combination because Freddie Freeman has really been
biling Mookie out a lot on his thas you know,
I'm just saying what a lot of other people are shureing. O.
I love Mookie best man. He's a great player, man,
But I'm just saying, I hate to see a guy
like that. Man. He's so talented.
Speaker 2 (25:49):
Man.
Speaker 9 (25:49):
To just come up with nine home runs and hitting
two forty five is something I think the Dodgers are
to sit down and have a really serioushity talk with him.
That's all.
Speaker 2 (25:57):
That's just all I got, man.
Speaker 4 (25:59):
I appreciate it.
Speaker 7 (26:00):
I appreciate I think you echo a lot of for
what Dodger fans have seen with their own eyes as
far as the production of Mookie bets this year not
being up to the level we've seen from Mookie in
past years and MVP seasons.
Speaker 4 (26:12):
Play is shortstop every day is tolling. It really is.
Speaker 7 (26:16):
It is a grind to go out there and play
shortstop in the major leagues. You're the floor you know,
the field leader out there on the infield. You play
a taxing position. You've got to be able to go
left and go right. You've got to be physically able
to have the demands of a whole season and get
through it. Then you got to go out and bat
(26:38):
as well.
Speaker 4 (26:38):
It's tough.
Speaker 7 (26:39):
That's why you know guys like cal Ripkin and you
know Alex Rodriguez and no More Garcia Para were so
good at what they did because they were able to
play every day at short and the demands that that
position has and also hit three hundred at the plate.
And Mooki's been able to do it and stretches this
(26:59):
year year, But this is his first full season really
playing shortstop. He experimented with it last year, of course,
taking over when Gavin Lux couldn't complete it in spring
training and they moved Gavin back over to second base.
Mookie said, I want to play short let me do
it right before they went to Korea, and then he
got hurt right around Father's Day last year, got hit
on the wrist, and when he came back went back
(27:21):
out to right field. I'd be interested to see what
the Dodgers want to do post All Star Break when
the grind of the season really hits. Is this going
to be too much for Mookie? I mean This is
a Mookie Bets making a transition to a grueling position
on the field, not as an eighteen year old or
a twenty one year old. Mookie Betts is doing this
(27:44):
after the age of thirty. He's thirty two now, so
last year he's thirty one. Making the transition to shortstop
on an everyday basis in the big leagues.
Speaker 4 (27:55):
It is not easy. We applaud it. We love his athleticism.
Speaker 7 (27:58):
Certainly, what he's been able to do is remarkable because
nobody else has done it ever. He has done it,
But at what cost? With his offense two fifty two average,
nine home runs, forty one RBI, we've seeing stretches in
which he's just not hit for power. You know, it's
it's taking a toll. I agree with all of you
(28:19):
that have brought that up. Is the move to put
him back in right field. Maybe move tay Oscar over
to left field, keep Pas in center field. Maybe Tommy
Evan plays short every day. Maybe Tommy doesn't play short
every day, plays a little second base. You can put
Keith k And gets some starts at shortstop, Miguel Rojas
and starts at shortstop. Miguel Rojas plaited a great third
(28:41):
base for Maxi Munsey in Colorado when months he got
the day off. You can float these guys around on
different days. Nobody says, if you're gonna be the starting
shortstop and Mookie Bets goes back to right field, that
it's gotta be one guy who makes every start every
single day.
Speaker 4 (28:56):
No, not a platoon either.
Speaker 7 (28:58):
You can just every two of three a guy starts
and then the third game of a series you move
somebody else in there. Whatever, whatever the final call is,
it could be done. But they got to make that
decision ultimately, and they got to talk to Mooki about that,
and he's got to be on board with it. It
was his decision to go to shortstop, his suggestion, and
the organization went through with it. I think it's going
(29:20):
to take him saying, yeah, I tried it, it's taxing.
How about the second half of the season, I go
back out to right field. I wouldn't be opposed to
it at all.
Speaker 4 (29:31):
At all.
Speaker 7 (29:32):
I wouldn't be opposed to it. But we're gonna have
to see post All Star Break what kind of effect
it really has had on Mookie Bets. The grind to
playing shortstop every day. Now, the Dodgers have a ton
of arms on the injured list. You know that relievers
on the injured list, starters on the injured list. Im
it she and made a start back in Triple A
Oklahoma City. I truly believe he'll be a factor in
(29:53):
some capacity helping out this Dodgers rotation the second half
of the season. Blake Snell is throwing bullpen sessions through
yesterday at Dodger Stadium along with Blake Trining. Justin Robleski
is a starter who today will take a bulk of
the innings. He's built up to go five six innings.
Tyler glassnow working his way back from an injury, has
(30:16):
made two starts in Triple A Oklahoma City, most recently
in Sacramento on Friday. I believe it was five runs
on seven hits, walked one struck three over two to
a third innings in two rehab outings so far in
Triple A Oklahoma City. Tyler Glass, now it's got a
ten to thirty eight er. Not great, but again it's
(30:39):
deceiving the numbers when you look in rehab starts, get
they're working on things. They're not necessarily going out there
and throwing for v load just to strikeout guys. They're
working on stuff. They're trying to get built up. They're
trying to get ready to come back to the major leagues.
They're not trying to dominate at the triple A level.
That doesn't achieve anything. So you kind of have to
look at it a little differently. You can't just look
(31:01):
at the number and go, my gosh, what has happened
to Tyler Glass. Now they're working on things, they're tinkering
with things. Okay, But with all that being said, right
now you've got a rotation of Yoshi Yamamoto, Clayton Kershaw,
Dustin May, and shoey Otani, who's now built up to
two winnings. Assuming Glass now and Snell comeback, that really
(31:24):
lengthens out your rotation. But I'm not assuming anything anymore
with this Dodger pitching staff. Why because just when you
think they got enough starting pitching, they don't. Just when
you think they have enough healthy starters, they don't, And
somebody goes to the injured list with elbow tightness, shoulder soreness,
(31:45):
shoulder impingement, body soreness, obleaque cramps.
Speaker 4 (31:52):
Just when you think, man, they got seven eight starters.
How are they gonna juggle all this?
Speaker 3 (31:58):
Wow?
Speaker 7 (31:59):
This is real first person problems there, first world problems
for the Dodgers. They don't have that problem because of injuries.
So just when you get excited all these arms coming back,
maybe somebody else gets hurt. Maybe somebody comes back and
they're not ready and they go back on the angel list.
It's just happened so much this year. I don't mean
(32:19):
to be the half glass half empty kind of guy
with the Dodger rotation, but I'm being realistic in that
if they get all these guys back in the rotation,
that's great, but I'm not assuming that that is gonna happen.
And the Dodgers, reportedly, according to Bob Nightingale of the
USA Today, are really interested in Sandy al Contra of
(32:39):
the Miami Marlins. Now I understand Sandy al Conto is
coming off Tommy John surgery. He was a stud before
his arm injury. A Cy Young Award winner to Sandy
al Contra is starting to get back to that level.
Not there quite yet, but his start to get back there.
(33:01):
Yesterday he had a major hiccup against the Diamondbacks, did
not factor in the decision. He allowed seven runs on
ten hits, didn't walk anybody over six innings, but he
gave up his season nine ten hits for the season.
His ERA is now near seven over eighty innings and
sixteen starts. He had a really good June up until yesterday,
(33:25):
four starts to seventy four. Erra was trending towards back
the old Sandy al Contra before the Tommy John surgery.
But yesterday a little bit of a hiccup, maybe a
blip on the radar, hopefully for Sandy al Contra, who
the Miami and Harlans are going to look to deal
and get as much as possible for at the trade deadline.
(33:48):
The Dodgers reportedly are one of the teams interested in
Sandy al Contra. According to Bob Nightingale of the USA Today,
to have his arm healthy and the Dodgers rotation would
be fantastic.
Speaker 4 (34:05):
I think it would be a shot in the arm.
Speaker 7 (34:07):
No pun intended for this Dodgers team to get a
Sandy al Contra, who again in four starts in June
up until yesterday two seventy four e two and one record.
Speaker 4 (34:17):
He wouldn't come cheap. He wouldn't come cheap at all.
Speaker 7 (34:21):
Dodgers would have to give up some prospects, maybe a
couple of young players in return for Sandy al Contrada,
but man to hat him too a rotation, not knowing
necessarily the future of a Glass Now is Sasaki or
Blake Snell? And I say that not because I'm Doomsday
or not because oh no, they're not coming back.
Speaker 4 (34:40):
We just don't know.
Speaker 7 (34:42):
Just when you think Blake Snell's gonna come back, okay,
he's still throwing bullpens and it's almost the All Star break,
Tyler Glass, Now two Rocky starts in triple A?
Speaker 4 (34:51):
Is he built up?
Speaker 3 (34:52):
Is he ready to go?
Speaker 4 (34:52):
How's he feeling?
Speaker 7 (34:53):
If you could have body sore on this and shut
it down again, Rokie Sasaki? It has been quiet outside
of day Robert saying, yeah, you know, we don't know
if he's coming back, and then a few days later saying, oh,
he's throwing on the side. We just don't know that
unknown to me, has the Dodgers now looking for another
starter to go with what they have right now because
(35:14):
they don't know the status of three quality starting pitchers
that are injured right now. So we'll see what happens
at the trade deadline. It's sneaking up on us. We're
a month away from that. It's June twenty ninth. We're
just over a month away. July thirty first is the
Major League Baseball trade deadline. There are teams that have
quickly become sellers, like the Arizona Diamondbacks. They're out of it.
(35:37):
Teams like the Angels, who are sellers a week ago.
Maybe they're buyers at some sort of level because they
want to make a run in the wild card, because
they're only a game and a half back in the AL,
they'll be interested. Over the next three weeks, We're gonna
see which teams fall off and which teams make a
run and decide to push their chips into the middle
of the table and say we're gonna try to make
(35:58):
a playoff run.
Speaker 4 (35:59):
We're gonna add to our That could.
Speaker 7 (36:01):
Up the ante as far as trade value for some players,
position players and pitchers in Major League Baseball.
Speaker 4 (36:09):
So we'll see how that affects the Dodgers. But just
start thinking about that.
Speaker 7 (36:12):
The trade deadline a little month, a little more than
a month away, and according to Bob Nightingale, Sandy al
contenta of the Miami Marlins could be on the Dodgers radar.
Jeremy checks in here from the eight one to eight.
How you doing, Jeremy, Hey.
Speaker 8 (36:24):
Thanks for taking my call. This call goes out to
the last caller and everybody else who's complaining about the Dodgers.
You're six games up in the best division in baseball,
you have the best record in baseball, given you know
what the Tigers are doing on in a given day,
and you have half your pitching staff gone. Stop complaining,
Stop complaining.
Speaker 7 (36:45):
I don't think anybody's complaining about the team, Jeremy, Jeremy,
nobody's complaining about the team. I think they're complaining about
the production of mooking bets and looking at what is
causing that. Maybe here in twenty twenty five, and you
can plaint to playing shortstop every day. I mean, if
you're looking for an answer, you're look into what has
happened to Mooki's production. Offensively, you can make a valid
case that the grind and toughness of playing shortstop at
(37:07):
the big leagues every day could be weighing on Mookie
bets Offensively. That's a fair argument to make, and I
think that's fair of Dodger fans to maybe look at
after the All Star break, is a move back to
right field something that Mookie Bets needs to make. Nobody's
complaining about it. It's how do we get better? How
do we make Mooki better? How do we get more
production out of Mookie? How do we make Mooki Mooki
(37:28):
again here in the second half of twenty twenty five.
That's the simple question right now. If they stayed put
with what they have, You're right, they're leading the division.
There's six games up, they could have eight starters in
the All Star Game. It's pretty fantastic right now. Being
the Dodge fan, nobody's really complained about it. They're just
trying to make Mooky better and get Mooki back to
(37:51):
that elite level at an MVP status where he was
at a year ago.
Speaker 4 (37:54):
Offensively at the plate, is he you got about twenty seconds?
Is he go ahead? Welcome to raindelaid Dot Okay, Well yeah.
Speaker 6 (38:02):
The dogold Okay, I got a good idea. You see
take the quick announce this. Will you guys going to
be you guys gonna be Mantle but away Dodge will
be fine. So we can talk about the more Lady

Speaker 7 (38:19):
All right, thank you, Izzy, I appreciate thanks everybody for
being a part of rain Delay Dodger Talk.
Speaker 4 (38:24):
We got first pitch coming up in just a couple
of minutes.
Speaker 7 (38:27):

and now we'll head back out to Kaufman Stadium in
Kansas City, Missouri. As we get you ready for first pitch.
Blue Trevino will be the opener, followed by Justin Robleski.
Speaker 4 (38:47):
Dodgers looking for the series win in Kansas City. Thanks

Dodgers audio note the season something on the Dream not
