Speaker 1 (00:01):
One thing about this gene is the invisible and tangibles
that they have. This team is really becoming a family.
Speaker 2 (00:09):
Let's not play one on Tom.
Speaker 3 (00:10):
Let's wind it.
Speaker 1 (00:11):
I love writing these guys after the show.
Speaker 2 (00:13):
So just thank you, give me are.
Speaker 4 (00:15):
Your attention, your fire and not a pisson.
Speaker 5 (00:17):
This is world champion, Dodger world championing for a.
Speaker 4 (00:21):
Small soft time they get up people what they want
to die to arow two is special. I'm like, yeah,
it's not a headache. One of the con This ball's gone.
You ready to go?
Speaker 5 (00:32):
Sure, hell old time to grab your phone to get
in on the show called eight six six nine eighty
seven two five seven and go to the show. And
now your host of Dodger Talk, Tim kains Ah.
Speaker 4 (00:46):
Take a deep breath, Dodger fans and hal exhale. As
the losing streak is over. It is stopped at seven
games as the Dodgers get a win today in San
Francisco two to one over the Giants, snapping that seven
game skid. Is the Dodgers now at the season fifty
seven and thirty nine, with one more game to go
(01:10):
before the All Star break. Tim Kate's with you here
on this Saturday afternoon. Thanks for being with us on
a five seventy LA Sports Live everywhere on the iHeartRadio
app no wetter no matter where you happen to be
on this Saturday afternoon. If you're at home and join
a pool, the beads, driving around, working, running errands, whatever
you're doing, make sure you stay cool and thanks for
joining us here on a five seventy LA Sports and
(01:32):
again on the iHeart Radio app. As show. Hey Otani
proved to be the stopper that they needed, combined with
Imad shechean seven and a third innings, one run, three hits,
seven strikeouts as the Dodgers get the victory in San Francisco.
Didn't have a lot of offense today. The Dodgers once
again struggle with runners in scoring position, one for eight
(01:56):
with runners on basin scoring position. They stranded six big
runners in this game, but they got hit when they
needed him, and then the biggest came from Heisung Kim
in the sixth inning. A blue pit to left field,
goes oppoe away on a curveball on an O two pitch.
Great piece of hitting and goes the oppoe away with it.
Michael CONFORDO scores as the Dodgers took a two to
(02:17):
zering lead that would remain that way until the eighth
when Rafael Devers hit his sack fly with the bases
loaded and won out to get the Giants on the board.
But great pitching today, good defense, and it's a couple
of timely hits. It's all that Dodgers needed in a
two to one victory over the San Francisco Giants. Eight
sixty six, nine to eighty seven, two five seventy is
our number. You can always tweet at me at Tim Kates,
(02:39):
tim c a t e s. Don't be afraid to
give me a follow either. On ex Twitter at Tim Kates,
tim c a Tes. We'll hear from Jose Moden coming up.
We're from Dalton rushing coming up as well. He was
behind the plate today and quite frankly did a great
job catching Otani and working with image shean Alex Vessius
(02:59):
two thirds of an inning, and then Tanner Scott who
came in and closed the door, striking out two of
the three batters that he faced in the ninth inning.
You couldn't draw it up any better today for the
Dodgers in a two to one win over the Giants.
Just dominating pitching was what they needed to set the tone,
and it started with sho hey Otani. Three shutout innings,
twelve pitches in the first inning to strike out the side,
(03:22):
and it was great to see him go into the
third and finish that third inning on thirteen pitches. A
total of thirty six pitches thrown by show hey Otani
in his final start before the All Star Game. Threw
a lot of fastballs early, mixed it up with a
couple of sliders to Devers the third batter of the
game to get his third strikeout of that first inning.
The key was the life on the fastball. He got
(03:45):
the chase from the Giants hitters on the fastball up
on the zone and he had the slider just absolutely
biting today. He led a cutter over the middle of
the plate to Bailey I believe was for the only
hit that he got off of him in the third
in the third inning with two outs. Other than that,
showy Otani was really good on the mound. Evan im
(04:07):
and shean really good on the mound for the Dodgers
and just enough offense to get the victory eight sixty
six nine eighty seven, two five seventy. I think I
know a lot of you Dodger fans thought they would
never win again. Kind of felt like the way this
team was going into the All Star break. Certainly, I
felt like the way this team was going into the
All Star break, didn't see a lot of fire, didn't
(04:27):
see a lot of drive, so to speak, from the offense.
And the All Star break to me still comes at
a perfect time for this team. And first and foremost,
it's a break, a chance to reset psychologically, emotionally, physically
for everybody on this Dodgers team, the pitchers, the everyday players.
(04:48):
Freddie Freeman's going to go to Atlanta and it's gonna
be fun, and it's gonna be a lot of pomp
and circumstance around him be returning to Atlanta and starting
for the National League there in Atlanta. Former brave, but
for a a lot of these Dodger players, Mookie Betts,
tay Oscar Henandez to me is the biggest, biggest Dodger
player that sticks out as far as a player who
(05:09):
needs three four five days to just let his body rest,
get mentally right, heal up, get some sleep, get some rest,
and come back for the post All Star break for
the Dodgers because they need him offensively. Guys just need
to reset, recalibrate, as they say, for the final two
(05:30):
and a half months of this season. It's a grind
up of this. To this point. The Dodgers still fifty
seven wins in the first half of the season, first place.
They're going to go into the All Star Break with
the lead in the division. It's just a matter of
how many games, four, five, six, Well, they go into
the break with the lead in the division. But all
in all, it's going to be a successful first half
(05:52):
of the season and a perfect time for this team
to get rest. We're gonna get to your phone calls
eight six, six ninety seven to two five seventy. Also,
I want to get into what has turned into a
big topic in the last twenty four hours in baseball,
and that is the All Star Game in snubs. And
the fact is Major League Baseball snubbed one of this
(06:13):
year's best pitchers in the National League for one of
the hottest young pitchers in baseball. Jacob Misseroski got announced
as a pitcher for the National League after five starts
in the Major leagues he's going to represent the National
(06:34):
League and the Milwaukee Brewers in the All Star Game.
A pair of Philly pitchers, not just one, two of them,
Christopher far Sanchez and Rangers Sworez, both not All Stars.
Both were asked to be named All Stars and both said, well,
(06:56):
we can't pitch, were not gonna be able to go.
Sanchez is pitching tomorrow for the Phillies in their final
game before the All Star break, so he can't pitch
on Tuesday. Rangers Sorez, who's going into free agency this
year having a really good first half of the season,
doesn't want to get off his routine. Would rather just
get ready for the second half of the season, and
(07:17):
said it would love the honor, but can't pitch. Both
pitchers offered by Major League Baseball. Both pitchers decline to
be able to pitch, and because they could not pitch,
Baseball moved on and said, all right, you're not All
Stars in So Jacob Miseroski of the Milwaukee Brewers is
(07:38):
going to Atlanta over Sanchez and Suarez, and players on
the Phillies have let it be known in the last
twenty four hours they are not happy about this decision.
J t rue Muto. Trey Turner, who was also a
snub Nick Costiano's with one of the biggest slams on baseball,
(07:59):
said that the All Star Game and the process it
choosing Meserroski over both of the Philly pitchers was quote,
it's turning it into the Savannah bananas end quote. Trey
Turner has some more colorful language towards Major League Baseball.
I get it, they've got a good gripe, They've got
a good reasoning behind it. But I also see both sides.
(08:21):
Jacob Miseroski, young talented player, a lot of zip on
the fastball, has opened a lot of eyes. He's the
new Paul Schemes this year as far as hard throwing pitcher,
and every time he pitches you kind of see what
he can do. You shut down the Dodgers a few
days ago in Milwaukee, and they want him in Atlanta.
They being major League Baseball, so I can see where
(08:45):
it's your All Star Game. All eyes of your sport
is going to be on Atlanta on Monday and Tuesday
for the Home run Derby and the All Star Game
on Tuesday. You want names like Jacob Miseroski, who is
a young talented pitcher, a social media star for what
he's able to do, and you know the work that
he has put up in five starts and all the strikeouts.
(09:06):
It's grabbed a lot of attention on Instagram and TikTok
and x for his highlights, and it's rubbed a lot
of the veterans in baseball the wrong way because guys
who deserve what they've done the first half of the
season to be rewarded with All Star selections even if
they're not going to pitch in the game, aren't getting
(09:26):
those nods. I can see the other side as well.
You worked your tail off, you're having a career year
so far, and you're Christopher Sanchez. You got a two
fifty nine Erray, you're seven and two, you got one
hundred and sixteen strikeouts, You've pitched through an injury, you
missed a month with Suarez. Ranger Swarez got a sub
to Erra seven and three record. He's been equally as
(09:49):
good for the Philadelphia Phillies, and neither one of them
are going to be recognized as All Stars because they're
going with a younger pitcher who could actually pitch in
the game. So where do you kind of weigh in
on this. Baseball traditionalists will say, hey, if you've don
something in the first half of the season, maybe you're
not a big superstar name or one of these young,
exciting names that baseball is pushing, but you still deserve
(10:11):
to be there. You need to be rewarded for what
you've done. Heck, and Christopher Sanchez's contract. He has got
an All Star bonus that the Phillies announced thirty minutes ago,
and good on them. They're gonna honor his All Star
bonus even though he is technically not an All Star
in twenty twenty five. They're gonna pay him that roster
(10:36):
all Star bonus even though Major League Baseball is not
recognizing him because of an All Star this year, because
he can't pitch in Tuesday's game. I don't like that.
I don't like that at all. But I also see
the other side. And when you want a nice young
arm and Jacob Miserooski, why can't we have it both ways?
(10:57):
Invite him as all stars, make them all stars they're
not to pitch, and then bright at Jacob Miserroski, why
can't we have both Yoshiyamamoto All Star? But can't pitch
in Tuesday's game because he's pitching tomorrow. It's the same circumstance.
They should have honored these two Phillies pitchers as All Stars.
If they're not gonna pitch in the game, then you
(11:18):
announced Jacob Miserroski and somebody else, whoever the other additional
pitcher is as All Stars, and knowing that they're gonna
pitch in Tuesdays Midsummer Classic, but still recognize the first
half stars, the pitchers and players who have done the
work and put up the numbers like a cal Raley
has done hitting all those home runs in Seattle, do
(11:39):
the same thing for the pitchers. The Phillies. How about
this real quick and let me get your phone calls.
The Phillies about two weeks ago got a charter flight
for their All Stars from San Diego tomorrow to Atlanta,
and they figured they were gonna have multiple players last year,
the way they had like seven or eight All Stars
in the Midsummer Classic. The Phillies organization thought they were
(12:02):
gonna have multiple All Stars, and they got a charter
playing for him tomorrow to fly him from the game
after their game in San Diego tomorrow to Atlanta. As
it turns out, Kyle Schwarber is the only player getting
on that plane to go to Atlanta because they don't
have any other All Stars. Kind of surprise it, but
(12:22):
again curious to where you lay in and on this.
As far as traditionalist guys who should be honored for
the first half of the season, they're having make them
All Stars even if they can't pitch in the game,
recognize them as opposed to baseball saying whoa the hot
young new thing Jacob miss Rowski. Wow, Look how many
(12:43):
clicks we're again, Look how young and bridey is. He's
opening nice. People now are starting to recognize his name,
even though he plays from Milwaukee. Broards good against the
Dodgers last week in Milwaukee, shutting them down all the
strikeouts he racked up. He is the next shiny toy
for Major League Baseball and they want to make sure
he is on full disci play in Atlanta. And I
don't blame him for that. It's good for the sport,
(13:04):
it's good for the game. But you could have it
both ways. Eight six, six, nine eighty seven two five
seventy is the number. Let's go out to the phones.
Thank you for being patient. We'll start off with Will
in Long Beach. Will your first up here on postgame
Dodger Talk after the Dodgers in their seven game losey streak.
How you doing, Will?
Speaker 2 (13:19):
Good?
Speaker 6 (13:20):
Good, good man. I've been on Hope for like fifty minutes,
but hey, it was worth it. Uh, big, big time
Dodger fans is the eighty one and I just want
to tell you guys, you get doing good job. Shoo
Tani is gonna be another mvpizz this year, and uh,
we're gonna win it.
Speaker 2 (13:36):
We're gonna sweep everybody in the playoffs.
Speaker 4 (13:39):
Well, I hope so October. I don't know if they
sweep everybody, but I certainly think they have the best
team over a stretch of a series, whether it be
in a five game series or a seven game series,
to outlast their opponents.
Speaker 7 (13:50):
Will.
Speaker 4 (13:50):
I appreciate the phone call, Thank you for the nice words.
Eight six, six, nine eighty seven two five seventy. There
he is my guy, Blake in Colorado. A little backstory
real quick. Blake checked in with us from Colorado when
the Dodgers were in there taking on the Rockies and
went to a game to see the Dodgers and Rockies.
And then Blake told us he was going to make
the drive with his family to go see the Dodgers
(14:11):
in Kansas City. As he makes his tour of all
the ballparks and checks off different ballparks that he have
seen in his life, he has now seen Colorado, he
has now seen Kansas City. Last week talked to Blake
he was going to see the Dodgers in Milwaukee on
this last part of this road trip here, Blake, did
you make it to Milwaukee to see the Dodgers?
Speaker 8 (14:32):
Yes? I did?
Speaker 9 (14:34):
Nice?
Speaker 4 (14:34):
Nice? How was the experience going to Milwaukee and seeing
a new stadium for the first time? Good? Goodness? Did
you go to the game when they had the roof
open or roof closed? And what did you think over
all of the stadium there?
Speaker 7 (14:50):
I want to out the games? WHOA?
Speaker 4 (14:52):
You went to all three games there, so you got
to see Jacob Mizzeroski pitch? Who are just talking about?
You got to see the Dodgers play all three games
there against the Brewers. Did you like the stadium?
Speaker 8 (15:06):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (15:07):
Did you see the slide in left field? Blake? That's
the slide that David Vas went down. A couple of
years ago, and well we all know what happened to
David vas A. Did you see it? Yeah? Did? Oh
that's awesome. So you checked off another ballpark off your
list of all the Major League ballparks that you've seen. Now, Blake,
the question, we all want to know any other ballparks
(15:29):
you're going to go to this summer to go see
or is that it for the summer? That's that's it
for this summer. Okay, So next summer we got to
start planning more road trips. Is there a ballpark in
your mind right now, Blake, is there a ballpark you
really want to go to next summer that if the
Dodgers play there, it is a must go to for Blake?
(15:53):
Yankee Stadium, Boston, Toronto, Toronto. Yeah, that'd be a fun
trip to go up there to what used to be
known as the sky Dome now the Rogers Center up
there in Toronto. That'd be a fun trip up there,
make a little vacation up there during the summer to
see the Dodgers in Blue Jays. It's beautiful up in
North in Canada during the summer. Any other ballpark that
(16:15):
sticks up Have you been to a game at Dodger Stadium.
Speaker 8 (16:18):
I have, Yeah, a couple years ago, a couple of.
Speaker 4 (16:21):
Years ago, gotcha, gotcha. So pretty successful summer for you, Blake.
You got to go to multiple ballparks to see the
Dodgers play. I know they didn't win in Milwaukee for you,
but certainly you got to see an exciting three days
of Dodgers baseball out there. Your What are your thoughts
Blake and this team right now before the All Star break?
What do you think?
Speaker 8 (16:41):
I think they're doing pretty good?
Speaker 4 (16:44):
Yeah. Do you think this All Star break's coming at
a good time for them? Yeah?
Speaker 8 (16:48):
I would say so, since we got to win today, Yeah, no.
Speaker 4 (16:51):
Doubt about it. Well, Blake, great to hear from you.
I'm excited to pass along that you've now made it
to three different ballparks this I'm Colorado, Kansas City, and Milwaukee.
Great to hear you had a fun time at all
three ballparks. And we'll talk to you after the All
Star break.
Speaker 8 (17:08):
Okay, okay, I'll be back on tomorrow.
Speaker 4 (17:11):
Oh sounds good, even better? Thank you, Blake. That goes there,
He goes Blake from Colorado, one of my favorites, and
great to hear him having a great time in Milwaukee
for those three games. Didn't get to see a Dodger win, unfortunately,
but got to check off a number of bocks there.
As far as the ballparks, he's a young man who's
traveling around to see all the ballparks in Major League Baseball,
(17:31):
and he checked off three this summer seeing the Dodgers
play in all three of those cities. So again, thank you,
Blake eight six six nine eighty seven two five seven.
Let's take a time out, we'll come back. We'll get
to more of your phone calls. We'll hear from Jose.
But also curious about this All Star situation and what
you think about a Dodger fans, traditionalist old school baseball fans.
(17:52):
Should you be rewarded for what you did in the
first half, no matter if you're going to pitch in
the game or not, be invited to the All Star Game,
be celebrated for what you did. And what are your
thoughts on Major League Baseball looking at their new shiny
toy in Jacob Miserawski and making sure he's at the
All Star Game after only five starts in the major leagues.
That's it. Five starts, that's all He's made and he's
(18:15):
going to Atlanta as an All Star eight six six,

Speaker 4 (18:56):
The seven game losey streak has come doing in as
the Dodgers get the victory over the Giants today in
San Francisco two to one. As Image and picks up
the victory four and a third innings piggybacking show Hey
Otani who went three shutout innings and struck out four
along the way. Dodgers did not hit a home run today,
but the Daniels Jewelers home run forecast is just easy

a fifty dollars Daniels Jewelers gift card just for predicting
the number of home runs in the next Dodgers game.
Daniels Jewelers Own the Dream. Let's check in with Jose.
Speaker 5 (19:34):
It's time to go around the horn, all.
Speaker 4 (19:38):
Right, Jose A lot to dive into first off, Show
Heyotani three innings the first inning, three straight strikeouts, fastball
and then got the slider on Devers for the third strikeout.
I mean, this was fantastic work from show Hey today.
Efficient work. He had the slider bite and they were
getting chases on that fastball up in the zone. This
looked like vintage Showyo Tani today.
Speaker 2 (20:01):
Tim everything was on time. And what I mean is
we talk about being on time only with hitters, but
pitchers also have to be on time. And Dustin May
talked about it last night. Sho hal Tani understand where
his arm needs to be in order to have consistency
in the release point. And believe me, release point for
Japanese pitchers is like it's like it's like an art, Okay,
Like they want to be so precise to make sure
(20:23):
they're in that circle all the time, so every pitch
comes out the way it's supposed to come out. There's
command issues that come with being in one spot. But also,
I mean he's not forcing velocity. This is all happening
because his mechanics are clean. Obviously he's well rested. We
know that it's like you have a new elbow. Hopefully
it'll stay healthy like that for the rest of his career.
(20:44):
But I think we also need to get into tim.
You know, shoe Heale Tani makes every pitch with a purpose.
Does there's competing in every single pitch and there's something
we learned from that. You know, there's not a wasted
pitch or adult he just got away from me or
I just want to know. It's like there's an intent
and a purpose behind it. And it started way back
with bullpens in spring training, and then we saw it
(21:05):
happening in the sim games, and now we have it
here in the game. I mean, every single pitch has
some idea behind it.
Speaker 4 (21:12):
I thought Imageen came in today and early on walked
to the first three batters, but then retired twelve in
a row. He's a guy who's gotten a lot of chase,
especially on his fastball out of the zone the Giants
didn't chase early on. He was able to battle back
into counts, get a head and counts, get some swinging misses,
get outs, most importantly retiring those twelve in a row.
(21:32):
I mean imagean we talked about a few weeks ago, Jose,
this is a guy who's going to come back and
as a starter, a long reliever, whatever role they were
going to ask him to do. You kind of felt
like he was ready to take that on. He's got
a lot of built up anxiousness. I guess Anger, I
don't know what it is. He's just ready to go.
He wants to be out there and contribute.
Speaker 2 (21:54):
Young pitcher, especially for somebody that you know. I mean,
he's built like an ox. This guy is a big kid.
He knows how to check all that energy. He is
again not trying to throw the ball one hundred miles
an hour, which he can and he did in rehab.
But he's pitching. And I love his answer when you're
you know, had him earlier on your clubhouse when he
talks about the game plan, then he talks about reading
(22:14):
swings and best say I pound by say with this
all the time, there's a matter in which you have
to respect the game the way he's taught today. There's
a game plan, they've got to execute it. But you
know a lot of times that game plan is from
a team that you saw or somebody saw two weeks ago,
and he just doesn't apply the same all the time. He
knows a lot about the Giants, does the team that
he debuted against, you know, back in twenty twenty two, right,
(22:36):
But he has a good idea on the non chases,
on how to get back into counts. And every pitcher
must have a get ahead pitch, get even pitched, and
to put away pitch. And to put away pitch does
not necessarily need to be the streckout pitch. But to
know that by reading swings, I not can get under
this guy's swing or over that swing to go out
there and get it mouth. So it's good to sea
(22:56):
house mentality is working knowing that also doubt in Russian. Again,
there's a lot of credit the way.
Speaker 7 (23:01):
You call the game.
Speaker 4 (23:01):
Yeah, he was fantastic behind the plate. Nomar said something
on Sports and at LA that kind of opened my
ears a little bit, and talking about Michael Conforto, and
he said even in his career. He knows guys that
he played with. Going back to a ballpark that you
may be played before in your career, it could change
things for you. The familiarity of being at the play,
(23:22):
the batter's eye, the ballpark, everything about it just feels
comfortable again and you can get right. And it maybe
feels like this is a get right series for Michael Conforto.
Last night, the home run, the great defensive play. Today,
three for four score both of the Dodgers run If
he can continue to do that tomorrow going to the
All Star break, hopefully this is something that can can
carry on and maybe this series back in San Francisco
(23:44):
jump starts at.
Speaker 2 (23:46):
Yeah, and Nomar is right about that. So many times
you go back to a place where you've had success
and sometimes where he didn't even have success to know that, Hey,
you know what, there's a great feeling here in the
batters box. There's a great batters eye some Francisco. But
you know it, Let's create a micro going forward a
little bit more. Because he's putting in the work, He's
gotten to a different bat bats not bats, different bats
(24:07):
in the last two weeks. Something is working, sometimes clicking
he's using every part of the field. His hands were quicker,
He's quicker, you know, to the pitch. But also ironically,
he was not very good at San Francisco when he
was a Giant, You know what I'm saying. Like his
numbers that that bullpluger are terrible. Twenty home runs us
a year, seventeen on a little but whatever it works,
you know what, go after and take it and know
(24:28):
that he is in a very good spot. He's got
a long runway ahead of him by but he's making
the most out of it and it's good to see
him at least go out there and carry that momentum
into the off days and get ready for a big
second half.
Speaker 4 (24:39):
I want to ask you about what I brought up earlier,
Hose and the All Star Game and the snub of
Ranger Suarez and Christopher Sanchez. Both were asked to pitch
and be All Stars for the National League, but both
can't pitch on Tuesday. Sanchez is pitching tomorrow in the
finale against the Padres, so he can't pitch on Tuesday.
Ranger Swarez said, Hey, I want to be rested and
(25:00):
good to go for the second half of the season.
Because I'm a free agent. At the end of the year,
I'm not gonna be able to pitch, and so Baseball said,
all right, you're not going to the All Star Game. Instead,
Jacob Mizeroski, who's made five starts in the big leagues,
is going to the All Star Game. Now you've got
players on the Phillies. Nic Costiano says, this is like
the best Savannah bananas. Trey Turner has some colorful words
and talking about what major League Baseball did and you know,
(25:23):
wanting a young player and snubbing two guys who have
worked their tails off and deserved the reward of being
All Stars. The Phillies did Sanchez right and give him
his All Star bonus even though he's technically not an
All Star in twenty twenty five. I see both sides,
SoSE I get it. You work your tail off, you work.
You should be an All Star for what you did
in the first half of the season. But I understand
(25:43):
baseball it's a showcase, it's a made for TV event.
It's for the fans. Give him that young shiny toy
that we're hearing about in Jacob Mizeroski.
Speaker 2 (25:52):
Baseball nos and promoting young players. They've done a fantastic
job the last fifteen twenty years. Go back and look
at some of the guys that I'm I'm not gonna
mention the names. So there's some guys or young stars
coming up outfielders years ago. There you go, how is
this guy in an All Star game hitting two fifty
with toll home runs and there's somebody else who's got
better numbers. I can see both sides, okay, but I
(26:14):
know that it's not just the Phillies complaining. It's not
just the Phillies. It is teams around baseball are rolling
their rise at this because they're going, wait a minute,
where do we have a threshold here that says five
starts that's it? I mean, come on, there's other guys
that had put in their work that maybe we're not
even part of a team's plan, and they are being snuffs.
(26:38):
So I can see both sides. I can see baseball.
But more than anything, I'm going to part more with
the traditional side of my part because I remember having
this conversation with my dad many times when you know,
the Pee Roses and the Willie Mays and those players
used to go when they're not really having great years anymore, right, right,
But baseball needed to put new faces in there to
(27:00):
you know, promote the game. And today with social media
is totally different monster marketing the game. So I know
that's not just the fifties. And I've talked to a
lot of players the last week or so. They're not
totally happy with how the system is. They think there
should be a threshold on how many starts a guy
makes before he's decided to be an All Star be
(27:20):
called an All Star. I understand now too. And the
other thing here, tim is more players are not all
that hot about making the trip and going through the festivities.
That's a fact. I mean, we we know players that
are you know, event of the All Star Game when
my fireplays broke, I gotta fly home. I mean it
used to be like, man, I'm an All Star. That's like,
(27:42):
but now they know that their name an All Star
and they're gonna have that, always gonna have that on
there on the record. You know, you got to see
both sides of they'se things. But I want to see
guys that go to the All Star Game that have
put in the work, the results and have the ability
to do on the field.
Speaker 7 (27:56):
Want anything to.
Speaker 2 (27:57):
Prove that they're All stars. Nothing as a young man,
he's a great picture. But man, five stars to me,
that's way too long.
Speaker 4 (28:03):
I mean, Christopher Sanchez, I believe he's got a five
or six figure All Star bonus that the Phillies are
actually going to honor and pay him even though he's
not an All Star. Good on them for that. But yeah,
I'm with you. I mean, Christopher Sanchez is a guy
who's just an example of what he's done right this year.
You know, having a career first half of this season,
may never have another year like this. Who knows exactly
(28:24):
exactly it doesn't get to put an All Star next
to his Wikipedia cow.
Speaker 2 (28:27):
You know, it's crazy. Let me tell you a quick
story without naming the name. But there's a player that
had all fly at one time from Seattle to Florida
for the All Star breaks and he got a call
on Monday in Miami, Okay minus home a. He goes,
I'm not going because he could have chosen me three
days ago and you didn't do it. There's more of
(28:48):
these stories that happen now where there's a lot of
demands on the players when they go. It's it's an
honor is a provo, I mean, is tremendous. But also
there's a lot of there's a load.
Speaker 7 (28:58):
On them too.
Speaker 2 (28:59):
But I mean, just to have the All Star next
to you. I think at some point years later, he go,
you know what it was all worth? At all the interviews,
getting up early, flying across countrail things like that. So
baseball come up all but with a solution we're going
because the guys Rols was saying, you know, the OSTI
on Wednesday is not enough, man, we need, like I know,
that day to recover. So that fourth day came in.
But it's a great subject. Let's keep on it. But
(29:21):
I know that it's it's it's hurting a lot of people,
and a lot of people are not going to say anything.
But the roll lit of the rise were now a
lot of mejugue clubhouses.
Speaker 4 (29:27):
No doubt, Jose, great perspective, great insight. Thank you so much,
and we'll talk to you tomorrow.
Speaker 2 (29:32):
Always all right.
Speaker 4 (29:34):
There, he goes, Jose Mode of Dodgers beat the Giants
today in San Francisco two to one. The final image,
she and four and a third Indians gives up just
the one run. He improves to want to zero on
this season. Tanner Scott picks up his nineteenth save of
the season. Thanks for being patient. We've got a Sergio
in Las Vegas. Welcome to Dodger Talk on this Saturday afternoon.
How you doing, Sergio, Sergio? You with us? Sergio going once?
(29:59):
Sergio on twice? All right? Sorry, surgery, Yeah, I got you.
Go ahead, Sergio.
Speaker 3 (30:06):
A tim really quick before I make him comment on
the All Star Game. First of all, I'm jealous of
Blake Man. I got to get my life together and
start making these roadies like the young man is doing.
I'm glad that I'm glad that the ball club was
able to stop the bleeding and the seven game losing streak.
Efficient pitching man, how how man? That was awesome. And
(30:27):
don't look now, but a machine is coming for one
of those rotation spots. I know Snell's working his way
back glass now just got back, but uh, I mean,
my young man, he's looking for one of those rotation
spots in the second half of the season. I'm glad
that confordo four for eight a home or two Ribby's hopefully, uh,
(30:49):
you know, hopefully he takes that into the second half.
And I'm sure you know, even players see the business
side of it, with the trade deadline coming back coming soon,
that maybe it's like to you know, it's kind of
motivating him to to to do better and then last
but not least, on the on the All Star Game.
Oh really quick, Hoose was just on. I remember meeting
(31:11):
his dad, Many Moota in the late seventies at a
sears a few of the ballplayers out there signing. He
was so nice to me. I will never forget Manny
Mota the time he took my parents took me there
when I was a kid. But yeah, great man. As
far as the All Star Game, you like, you hit
the nail on the head. There's so many layers from
(31:32):
the marketing side to these players nowadays make so much money,
so maybe they're like, you know, hey, I'll skip it.
But then you look at the other side, tim where
And I don't know, maybe it's just the product of
me being a seventies kid where you know, going back
to the Little League, not everybody, not everybody made the team, right,
(31:54):
it was an honor where some of these ball clubs
and I hate you know, maybe they's gonna be some
fans of these teams that I'm about to mention they're
gonna get upset. But like the White Sox and the A's,
you know, yeah, there's good players on every team, but
come on, let's let's invite either expand the roster to
have I don't know, fifty sixty players there, which they
(32:16):
probably won't do, or don't include players from those struggling teams.
But I know it's it's a it's a marketing thing
from the league side, where they want to you know,
I'm fifty five, I'm a fan. I'm gonna be a fan,
so I die. They already have me, and I know
they're trying to get these younger players, younger fans, I
(32:36):
should say, to watch the game, and that's why they're
doing stuff like adding the Myths to the to the
to the roster and Paul Schimes last year. But I mean,
they're they're talented players. But yeah, five games too soon,
and I have a feeling I know who the outfielder
that Jose was referencing. Yeah, you know, there's always going
(32:58):
to be some people that are snub but I don't know,
I don't know what the answer is to that. I
will say that the Baseball Star Game is better than
any of the other major sports all Stars on games,
I should say, I'm with Jimmy, thank you for the time.
And they finish up the first half with the wins.
Speaker 4 (33:12):
No doubt it's gonna win tomorrow. Appreciate it, Sir Joe
in Las Vegas, listen as a Friday. Seventy nine All
Stars have been named for the Midsummer Classic this year.
Seventy nine fifteen were replacements. If Sanchez and and Ranger
Suarez of the Phillies both say well, we can't pitch
in the game when asked if they'll be All Stars.
(33:33):
But they have to pitch in the game, they can't.
I mean they one can't, one doesn't want to. So
they're still All Stars. Still name them all Stars, invite
them with the All Star Game, but they can't pitch,
and then move on to somebody al somebody else, Oh,
Jacob Mazeroski, who you ended up selecting for the Milwaukee Brewers.
I don't see the problem in still honoring a guy
(33:56):
even though he's not gonna pitch. Recognize him for what
he's done the first half of the season. Christopher Sanchez
may not ever do this again in his career. The
left hander for the Phillies two fifty nine e one
hundred and sixteen strikeouts, seven to two record. He's twenty eight,
you know, made his debut in twenty one, was an
All Star last year, should have been an All Star
this year. Maybe he's never an All Star rest of
(34:18):
his life. I mean, who knows. But recognize him for
what he's done, even if he's not going to pitch
in the game. And then you move on and invite
somebody who is going to pitch in the game. What's
another body on the roster that you have to introduce.
It's nothing for Major League Baseball when they introduced the
teams along the first base and third base line, So
what you have a longer line of players and maybe
(34:39):
pitchers who are there but aren't going to participate, but
still they should have their name called and be recognized
for being one of the best players this season in
the major leagues. Eight sixty six nine eighty seven two
five seventy. Ray from Georgia checks in long distance here
on the iHeartRadio app on Dodger Talk.
Speaker 1 (34:56):
How you doing, Ray, Hey, Caim, You guys do a
great job up and number one for Blake trying to
hit San Francisco's Oracle Park and Seattle's te Mobile Park.
That's your suggestion, and bring his glove to this. I
hope he brings his gloves to the stadium.
Speaker 4 (35:11):
That'd be awesome. You know what, Ray, I've never been
to Oracle Park in San Francisco. How about that. I've
never been up to the new stadium.
Speaker 1 (35:18):
It's beautiful. And Seattle t Bobo Park is a great
location also, and there's so many things you could do
outside of going to the ballpark too.
Speaker 4 (35:28):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (35:29):
So it's and I hope he brings his glove. But
I want to touch a base on the thing about
the All Star thing and about Dave Roberts the All
Star thing. What I would do is for somebody like
miss Rowski is do what they did with Kershaw, have
it they had the legend thing and have the rookie thing.
You know, maybe do something like that where the commissioner
(35:52):
can had Kershaw going to the All Star Game? What
about that?
Speaker 4 (35:56):
It could? I mean, I appreciate the phone call, Ray.
I think it's really easy when Baseball approaches Sanchez and
Suarez and they both say, yeah, we can't pitch in
the game. One because I just pitched on Sunday, and
the other one says, you know, I want to rest
my arm for the second half of the season. Okay,
still invite them, let them be introduced, and move on
(36:16):
to the next pitcher. And the next picture is Jacob Mizerowski,
who you moved on to. He can pitch, He will
pitch in the All Star Game. So you have an
extra body or two there still recognize him as All Stars.
I don't understand why you can't. Is it because you're
you're financially strained Major League Baseball? You can't get a
hotel room for these guys. We can't have another locker
room space for them. I don't understand why not add
(36:39):
more bodies. It's an All Star game, it's a it's
a celebration of your sport. Celebrate the players who have
had really good first half of the seasons. Again, Rangers swore,
I mean Christopher Sanchez, Ranger swares may never be All
Stars again, may never have first half of the seasons
like they're having right now, and won't recognized missing out
(37:01):
on a contract bonus. Thankfully, the Phillies and Sanchez's case
are honoring his All Star bonus, which is good. On
the Phillies for doing that. There's they could have easily
invited these guys. And when the players say no, I
can't pitch, Hey, okay, still come, Still come to Atlanta.
We're gonna recognize you for being one of the best
pitchers in the National League this year, even though you're
not gonna pitch. But hey, we're gonna have somebody else
(37:23):
on the roster as well, and that's gonna be Jacob Miserski,
who is gonna agree to pitch in the game. Doesn't
hurt anybody. Why didn't tell I don't understand why you
tell pitchers you can't come. You're not invited because you
can't pitch. It just doesn't make any sense. It doesn't
make any sense. I mean, Yoshin will be up by.
Yamamoto is pitching tomorrow for the Dodgers. He was in
(37:45):
the first wave of selections from by Major League Baseball
for the Nation League roster. Okay, so now we find
out he's pitching tomorrow. He can't pitch on Tuesday. He
had a replacement pitcher named to him. He's still gonna
be named as an All Star. He's still recognized in
twenty twenty five as an All Star. I just don't
get it with these and this is just an example
(38:05):
of baseball snubbing these two guys. And I'm sure it's
happening with other players on other teams, but I bring
it up because the Phillies players, Trey Turner, Costeanos, very vocal,
kyleeg Schwarber, JT Real Mudo, all these guys on the
Phillies very vocal, and a piece that posted on the
Athletic today about how unhappy they are about their teammates
(38:27):
not even being allowed to go. Because they're not allowed,
they're not going to pitch in the game. And again
Nick Castiano's said it's turning into the Savannah bananas, is
what he said. And again Jay Trey Turner used a
little bit more colorful language in talking about this situation.
Kenn at Newport Beach, welcome Ken.
Speaker 5 (38:45):
How you doing?
Speaker 4 (38:45):
My friend?
Speaker 7 (38:47):
Well, just much better today. So you know, I'll go
down to the cigar store and there's a couple of
San Diego fans they are, and some Philly fans there
and they says, hey, you guys won today. Goo.
Speaker 9 (38:59):
Yeah, So who's doing all hitting? Well, it wasn't Mookie
because in the eight games he's hitting two of five.
It wasn't Freeman eight games he's hitting one seventy four.
It wasn't, oh Tommy, because he's hitting one fifty one.
Speaker 7 (39:16):
They go, whoa, who wasn't and have to tell him
concercos today concepto and go home run yesterday. And I
really got to say that I was very, very very
surprised and very happy for him. Yeah, he's a heck
(39:36):
of an outfuler and he's just been in the horrible slump.
But it was just one of those things. I'm glad
those seven games are over.
Speaker 4 (39:44):
You and I both can you and I both I
appreciate it. I hope you're doing well, and we'll maybe check
with you tomorrow. If not, we'll check in with you
after the All Star break.
Speaker 7 (39:51):
My friend, alrighty, have a good one.
Speaker 4 (39:53):
All right there, he goes Ken in Newport Beach, Mike
in Paris. You're next up here on Dodger Talk on
AMPHI the LA Sports Dodgers snap that seven game losing
streak with the two to one win over the Giants today.
Speaker 7 (40:04):
How you do it?
Speaker 3 (40:05):
Mike?
Speaker 2 (40:06):
Good dam thanks for taking my call. Sure, first thing
is before the All Stars. Now with the way show
has been pitching. Do you think now they'll ramp him
up four or five innings on the next start.
Speaker 4 (40:20):
I don't think the next start he gets there, Mike.
I think the next start after the All Star breank
will be used as another ramp up for three innings.
And I think after that point we're looking what that's
the end of July. Let's see the final week of July.
Then we are going to see him start to go
inning by any more ultimately, so he's ramped up by
September in the stretch run. That's just my guess. I'm
(40:43):
kind of placing it out looking at the calendar, trying
to figure out what they're doing. And if I were
to guess, I think he goes three innings in the
next start after the All Star break, Okay, and.
Speaker 2 (40:52):
Then one more thing about the All Stars and then.
Speaker 1 (40:55):
Those two pitchers of the Phillies.
Speaker 2 (40:57):
That means that's as bad as Fernando All Stars.
Speaker 4 (41:03):
You're right about that. You kind of hit that on
the head, and I appreciate the phone call, Mike. Yeah,
it's I get it. It's an All Star game. You
want your big name players there, Okay, the names that
when people go and buy their baseball cards. They're worth
a lot. The players that you spotlighted. You want to
see the All Stars perennially, the superstars, the Otani's, the
(41:27):
Trouts of the world. Even though Mike Trout's not only
done a lot and been hurt a lot, but still
a big name. You want them on display. It's your
sports showcase for the summer. All eyes will be on
the MLB All Star festivities, the Home Run Derby on Monday,
and then the All Star Game on Tuesday. And you
can argue whether this is the best All Star game
in sports or not. I think it is compared to
(41:48):
the other major sports out there. But I do say
hockey got it right this year with their country representation.
Instead of an All Star Game, the little mini playoffs
they had there during the All Star break with four
countries and a showcase to see which country is the best.
I did kind of like that. But Baseball's All Star
Game is still to me the purest and the best.
(42:10):
And to see the stars out there, that's what you
want to see. But you also want to recognize the
players who are having careeraders. Cal Ray's a really good
catcher for the Mariners. Let's say, cal Rawley next year
has twelve home runs at the All Star break and
is hitting two thirty five, he's not an All Star.
But because he's hit thirty plus home runs this year
and having a career season, he's an All Star, and
(42:31):
rightfully so being recognized as an All Star and going
to participate I believe in the home run Derby, so yes,
recognize him for what he's doing this year. To me,
you have your superstars that should be there every year
and get voted in by the fans, the players, managers,
and even the commissioner with his pick. Those selections, the
(42:52):
pitchers and the reserves. Those selections are for the players
that are having career years. Those are for the players
that are putting together really good seasons for their respective teams.
The starters are the fans. It's a popularity contest, that's
all that is. And that's why sometimes you see players
who I don't know shouldn't belong there because of the
(43:14):
seasons they're having, are there because of their name value.
But the reserves, who are picked by the managers and
players and people in the sport, that's where you need
to be recognized for your peers and the fact that
Major League Baseball is telling these two Phillies pitchers, you're
not gonna pitch. I can't recognize you an All Star,
then we're gonna move on down the list. And all right,
Jacob Mezeroski for the Brewers, you made five whopping starts
(43:37):
in baseball. But you're a big name and we get
a lot of clicks on social media because of you.
And you're that big shiny new toy that everybody's looking
at with Paul Skins that could be the future of
our game. We gotta promote you. I also see that
side of it as well. That's called smart marketing and
business for Major League Baseball. And how many of you
listening right now probably are shaking your said heads. Yeah,
(43:59):
I agree with that. Also shake your head sand Yeah,
you're right, because for so long we ripped baseball for
being behind the other major sports. We ripped baseball for
not figuring it out. What are you doing, Commissioner of Baseball?
How are you not getting this right? How are you
continuing to let other sports pass you by in popularity?
(44:19):
Well they've figured it out the last few years. Pitch
clock the way they've got, you know, the limit on
extra innings. To make sure games don't go five hours
and fourteen innings on a Tuesday night in June or July.
You put the ghost runner out there, and it helps
speed up the game of extra innings. You may and
may not like it, but it helps the game of baseball.
Things that have improved, they get no shifting on either
side of second base. Things that have improved the game
(44:42):
have gone well for baseball, and popularity is back and
it's trending in the right direction. So I see why
they make this move because on Tuesday night, the young
fans out there who on TikTok and Instagram reels have
seen this young Jacob Mazeroski just pound the strike zone,
throw one hundred miles an hour and just got to
win against the Dodgers the other day against Clayton Kershaw. Yeah,
I want to see this guy. I saw his highlights
(45:02):
on social media. I want to see him pitch and
strike out. Mike Trout, I want to see him strike out,
you know, somebody from the American League. So I get it.
I see both sides, and I think it's able to
work both ways. Just a shame on Major League Baseball
for not allowing these two Philly pitchers and others that
are in the same case as Christopher Sanchez and Ranger
Suarez who are getting snubbed just because they can't pitch
(45:23):
tomorrow and aren't even being recognized as All Stars. That's
a shame, all right. Is he who is not calling
from Buena Park, not calling from Anaheim, but she's in
Garden Grove wrap things up on this Saturday?
Speaker 7 (45:35):
Is he?
Speaker 4 (45:35):
How are you?
Speaker 8 (45:36):
Oh? I get I'm okay.
Speaker 4 (45:44):
They've turned things around. How can he be like, oh no.
Speaker 8 (45:48):
Yeah, I know. They drive me nuts anyway, I got
agree with you though, te ridiculous. Don't get me. I'm
not big rod Man still anyway, I'm still mad at
him from twenty twenty Colors with championship a medal really anyway.
But when they say it was a good game today,
(46:09):
you know, hey, so hey, PA's good. So I'm I'm
happy for him. I did one day. How long he's
gonna go next time? So fifteen t you know, get
back and stays and well we'll see how it goes tomorrow.
What's up tomorrow? Kid? But I just need to need
to I did not want to tease them not winning
(46:29):
this series because I hate the Giants at more than
any any Dodgers MB so I'm gonna call Giants calculated tonight.
Speaker 4 (46:39):
Lad, Thank you Iszie, thanks for checking in. One final
thing before we wrap things up.
Speaker 2 (46:43):
Uh.
Speaker 4 (46:43):
The Futures Game played in Atlanta today for the top
prospects in baseball from respective teams, sort of the All
Star Game, the showcase, if you will, for the young
talent that will be in the major leagues in a
few years. The Dodgers were on full display today. I
know that takes off a lot of people around baseball
to see the Dodger good at the major league level
and the minor league level, but yeah, that's the way
it is. Dodgers center fielder host Swaye Topala, who plays
(47:08):
for the Great Lakes Loons in High A ball former
first round pick, was one of two Dodger Minor league
outfielders from the Great Lakes Loons that were in this
Futures Game Zaire helping in the other well. Host sway
Depala hit a three run home run for the National
League's in the Showcase Futures Game, helping the National League
(47:29):
beat the American League four to two, and that three
run home run from Dodgers' top minor league prospect, host
Sway Depala earn him MVP of the Futures Game in
Atlanta this afternoon. He had a home run four hundred
and sixteen feet to help the National League come back
and win the game. He's twenty years old in his
fourth season in the Dodgers Minor League, so host Sway
(47:53):
de Pala a Dodger Minor League have you heard about
in the farm report here on Dodger Talk. A big
swing today, three run home run helping the National League
beat the American League in the Futures Game in Atlanta.
That's gonna do it for Dodge Talk on this Saturday.
Thanks to Coliny, Thanks to all you Dodger fans for
being a part of the show. Thank you for podcasting
as well. We'll be back at it tomorrow to wrap
up this three game series in San Francisco and wrap
(48:15):
up this first half of the season before the All
Star Break. Dodgers snapped the seven game losing streak a
two to one win over the San Francisco Giants. Show
Eo Doni three shutout innings, turned it over to Immachian
four to third innings, one run, two hits three strikeouts.
Dodgers get to win finally over the Giants as they
improved at fifty seven and thirty nine, and extend their
(48:37):
lead in the division until tomorrow with Morongo Casino Dodgers
on deck beginning in noon. Have a great, safe rest
of your Saturday evenings. So long everybody sat
