Speaker 1 (00:01):
One thing about this gene is the invisible and tangibles
that they have.
Speaker 2 (00:07):
This team is really becoming a family.
Speaker 3 (00:09):
Let's not play one on Tom.
Speaker 4 (00:10):
Let's lend it.
Speaker 3 (00:11):
I love writing me these guys after the show.
Speaker 2 (00:13):
So just thank you.
Speaker 5 (00:14):
Give me are your attention, your fire, not a pisson.
Speaker 6 (00:17):
This is world champion, Dodger, world championing. He put a
small soft time they get up people what they want
to die too?
Speaker 7 (00:24):
In a row two is special.
Speaker 6 (00:26):
I'm like, yeah, it's not a headache.
Speaker 8 (00:28):
One of a con. This ball's gone. You ready to go?
Speaker 6 (00:33):
Hell time go to the sud grab your phone to
get in on the show called eight six six nine
eighty seven two five seven and go to the show.
And now your host of Dodger Talk, David Vasse.
Speaker 8 (00:47):
Welcome to Dodger Talk David Vassey live at Great American
Ballpark in Cincinnati, where the Dodgers defeat the Reds five
to two. We're with you until eight thirty. Tonight at
eight six six two five seventy you'll hear from Alex Vesia,
who joined us on the pregame show and talked about
his connection with rookie Jack Dryer. Both Vessia and Dryer
(01:10):
got into the game tonight. Dryer with his first career save,
coming in for the final out of the game, stranding
the bases loaded, getting Matt McClain to ground into the
final out of the game. Blake Trinan returned to the
Dodgers tonight. He threw twenty five pitches in that ninth inning,
but a little rusty and a little bad luck as
(01:32):
he walked a couple of hitters, and there was a
ground ball through the right side of the infield that
normally would have been to the second baseman, but the
Dodgers had Hayesan Kim playing more up the middle. So
all in all, it was good to see Blake tryning
back on the mound, but you can understand a little
bit rusty there, but certainly he was hitting the radar
(01:55):
gun where it needed to be to reassure everybody that
he was back. And for the Dodger offense, it was
good to see Otani, Betts, and Freeman all contribute in
some form or fashion. Freddie Freeman had an RBI single
in the seventh inning, a two run inning for the Dodgers,
where Taascar Hernandez drove in another run. He had two
(02:18):
RBI singles tonight. Mookie Betts, in my opinion, tonight may
have had his best offensive performance for the Dodgers since
the home opener at Dodger Stadium when he hit a
walk off home run against the Tigers. Tonight, Mooki was
on base three times. He led off the game with
a double and scored on an RBI single by Taoscar Hernandez.
(02:42):
He scored three times tonight out of the leadoffs spot,
and that was good to see, and you could tell
by just his mood before the game that he was
in good spirits and he was ready to get to
business tonight. So that was really good to see from
bats and also show a Otani I thought Jose Mota
(03:04):
brought up a great point that doesn't show up in
the box score, giving himself up hitting the ball to
the right side to get Muki to third and hopefully
get a better shot at getting him in. So that
was leading by example by Otani and that was a
great point brought up by Jose Mota. Not to mention
Otani hitting a ninety nine fastball from Chase Burns to
(03:27):
center field that was a two run double, and Otani
was the run that scored on Freddy's RBI base hit
in the seventh inning. It's important to highlight because that
was Otani's one hundredth runs scored. That's a lot of
runs to score before the end of July. There's still
two more months to go, and you know, as much
(03:49):
as everybody wants to focus on everything else, the results
matter the most, and the results are scoring runs. Whether
you're scoring runs or driving in runs, those are very important.
I don't care what anybody says. Eight six six nine
eighty seven two five seventy is the phone number for
the Dodgers tonight. They scored some runs for Yamamoto, who
(04:11):
came into the game tonight, a pitcher that had the
second fewest amount of run support this season. So that
was that was certainly good to see tonight for the
Dodgers to give Yama Moto a lead to be able
to work with. He went seven innings tonight and had
nine strikeouts on the way to his ninth win of
(04:32):
the year. Eight six six nine eighty seven two five
seventy is the phone number. Dodgers beat the Reds five
to two. Now the Dodgers had Miguel Rojas starting at
third base, tonight. We found out in the middle of
the game. Why it was because more than likely tom
Y Edman is headed to the injured list. That right
(04:53):
ankle is still barking, and there are reports from the
athletic that Alex Friedland is going to be here in
Cincinnati tomorrow. Let's head downstairs to the manager's office to
sort out what's going on with Tommy Edmund. Yeah, it's uh,
it's day to day.
Speaker 9 (05:12):
I couldn't play defense tonight, so you know, there was
a bat in the middle of the game where you know,
under normal circumstances I would have hit him for kim
with the bases loaded with one out, but he just
couldn't play defense tonight. So trying to protect him for
the short and the long term. So I'm waiting on
word from the training staff if he can play tomorrow.
(05:34):
So yeah, well we'll see. But obviously, if I couldn't
hit him tonight, for him to not be able to
play three ings of defense, you know, isn't a great feeling.
Speaker 7 (05:44):
I was freely going to be here for as insurance
for him, or is.
Speaker 9 (05:47):
He Alex is coming and we'll see, Well, he's gonna
come and we'll we'll see you know what direction we go,
you know with who, But it's out of certainty.
Speaker 8 (06:00):
But he is en route, okay. Dave Roberts confirms the
athletics report that Alex Freeland is on his way in
and they may decide, you know what, Tommy Edmund does
not need to go on the I L. So Freeland
could appear here today and the Dodgers say, you know what,
let's let's hold off on putting Edmund on the I L.
(06:22):
Tommy Edmond also spoke in the Dodger club house. Here
was Tommy Edmund moments ago on sports Net LA.
Speaker 7 (06:29):
No, it felt fine until yesterday.
Speaker 10 (06:31):
I had a just a little tweak of it yesterday,
and you know, it didn't feel great today, but you know,
hoping to get back in there tomorrow.
Speaker 7 (06:37):
Frustrating. Where do you feel it the most? It's like running,
is it swinging? Like where where does it really impact
very for I'm just running? Swing is fine? Has it
bothering you the last couple of weeks?
Speaker 6 (06:48):
Or had gotten pretty much back to normal before this
last sup of player?
Speaker 10 (06:53):
You know, it's something that's kind of like always there
but not I would say it's been pretty normal, like
a playing or just yesterday.
Speaker 7 (07:03):
You're talking about just rounding the bases.
Speaker 1 (07:07):
From time to time, like since you came back from
the ill and re tweaking it.
Speaker 10 (07:13):
I think it's the second time. The other time was
against the Mets at home. I think it was like
early June.
Speaker 7 (07:21):
So it feels about like that.
Speaker 2 (07:22):
Because it's just me think you're gonna have to manage
if you're gonna keep playing on it just.
Speaker 10 (07:25):
For us of the year or you know, I hope not,
you know, hopefully hopefully doesn't come up again. And you know,
this is really not I feel like it's not a
big deal at all.
Speaker 7 (07:35):
It's just kind of was.
Speaker 10 (07:36):
At a point where I didn't feel like I was
able to run full speed today and you know, guess
a good treatment today, So hopefully'll be back it will
do it tomorrow.
Speaker 8 (07:43):
All right. There's Tommy Edmond on Sports at LA, obviously
wanting not to go on the injured list, but this
right ankle has been a problem for him going back
to last year. That's where he tweaked it originally. That's
the reason why he didn't return to the Cardinals quicker
than or when he was supposed to. When he was
(08:04):
on a rehab assignment for his right wrist, and all
of a sudden his right ankle got turned and it
was a severe sprain. And then today this year, it's
been three separate issues. The original one where he was
tagging up and tweaked it a little bit, and we've
had a couple of other flare ups with Tommy Edmund's
(08:25):
right ankle. So you need Tommy Edmund to be as
close to one hundred percent as you get going down
the stretch. So that's that could possibly be the reason
why Alex Freeland is on his way here, because the
Dodgers may take that decision out of Tommy's hands and say, look,
Max Mounsey's starting a rehab assignment tomorrow in Oklahoma City.
(08:49):
There's a good chance Monsey will return when the Dodgers
return home. Tommy, you need to get this ankle right,
and I would I would support that. I definitely would
support that to make sure Tommy Edmund's right ankle uh
does not continue to flare up down the stretch because
it obviously is affecting the way he's playing. I mean,
(09:11):
he's not hitting all that great these days. Eight six, six, nine,
eight seven, two five seventy is the phone number. Dodgers
beat a very good Reds team that had won ten
out of fourteen coming into the game tonight, and we're
just one game back of the Padres for the third
and final wildcard spot in the National League. The Padres
are at home right now playing the Mets. So with
(09:34):
the win, the Dodgers are currently four and a half
games ahead of San Diego seven and a half games
ahead of the Giants in the NL West. Let's go
out to the phones for the first time tonight, Hunter
in the Big Apple, New York City, New York City. Hey, Hunter,
you're on Dodger Talk.
Speaker 2 (09:52):
Hey, yeah, McCall David. Yeah, So today was a good game,
a lot of good storylines. Uh, you know, it's good
as see Mookie spanking balls down the left field line again, right,
And also the fact that Munsey is already playing Triple
A ballgames tomorrow. That is that Loki might be the
best news we received so far this season.
Speaker 8 (10:15):
That's taking ground balls at third base.
Speaker 2 (10:19):
Well, he's playing a triple A game tomorrow. Right, That
was years.
Speaker 8 (10:23):
I would say there's been other really great news this
season than that. Well, so I know what, it could
have been devastating that he would have been out a
lot longer. I understand what you're saying, Well, what else
did you want to say, Hunter Oh on that play?
Speaker 2 (10:40):
But Uh, the point I wanted to just mention on
Dodge Talk now is I think Loki. The story right
now is Dalton Rushing. The fact that he's he's done
a really strong job as catcher, and the fact that
this organization has trusted him to start the last two
games at a plaint with the Dodgers. We really eat
(11:00):
some you know, we really need some wins. But it's
the fact that he's worked in this system, and he's
worked alongside veterans like Will Smith and Mark Tryer and
Klein Kershaw on this whole pitching staff, and he's worked
with so many pitchers. He has a fantastic resume. And
the Dodgers are I think likely going to deal him
at the trade deadline, and he's done the best he
(11:21):
can do, and I think he's gonna get us a
good package, and I really just want the situation to
work out for both sides. And you know, guys like
Zach McKinstry we traded him, he's an All Star, and
Cuban Ruiz he's an everyday guy, and you know the
Naps can make a run in the near term, and
so I just want to give my salute to Dolt
Rushing before he probably gets dealt in a couple of days.
Speaker 8 (11:42):
See, I disagree with you. I mean, it better be
a really good player that you're getting in return for
Dalton Rushing. I don't believe it's a certainty that he
gets traded on Thursday. That may happen in the off season,
but I'm not saying it's a certainty on Thursday day.
Speaker 2 (12:01):
It's not certainty. Even knowing Andrew Friedman, I think he's
got to trick up his sleeve and Darn Rushing, I
think could be your eighth in the hole right now?
Speaker 8 (12:11):
All right, who do you think what is worth trading
Dalton Rushing for? Who, by the way, has struck out
thirty six times in his first eighty Major League at
bats and only has one home run, which was off
a position player in garbage time. So what do you
believe would be worth trading Dalton Rushing for? Tell me
which player do you believe trading him in a package
(12:34):
to the Twins for Joan duran Is is worth trading
a catcher that has the power and everything that you
threw flowers at. I mean, tell me, what do you
believe the Dodgers should do for rushing. I'm not trading
him just for a relief pitcher, I'll tell you that.
Speaker 1 (12:52):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (12:52):
Well, okay, there's a lot to say there.
Speaker 6 (12:54):
One.
Speaker 2 (12:54):
You're framing this in an interesting way to you know,
when the Dodgers got Sure or we also got Trey Turner. Uh,
and so to think about, you know, Andrew Friedman something
really creative. You know he's got he's got the issue
to prove it.
Speaker 8 (13:08):
But but who is who's available like that? I don't
believe anybody's available like mac Sure's or in trade Turner.
That's a once in a generational opportunity to make a
trade like that. Wan Soto was the other one, I guess.
But in that certain in that circumstance, you got an
all star shortstop and you got a Hall of Fame
(13:29):
pitcher that was still really good. I don't see that
in this year's landscape. I could be wrong, maybe.
Speaker 2 (13:36):
You know, well, well you know, yeah, this landscape it's
actually not totally clear. But also trade Turner wasn't really
trade Turner. I feel like until the Dodgers got him.
But the point that I'm making about Don Rushing is
it's not about the offensive staff at this moment. It's
that will an organization trust a guy like this to
be there every day catcher, and there is no better.
Speaker 8 (13:57):
He's not there everyday catcher. Yeah, I agree, I agree
with you. I agree with you. Yes, but he's not
their everyday catcher. He's their backup catcher. He plays a
couple of times a week, and I think he's done
a really good job defensively. There's been obviously growing pains.
I mean, the last time he caught Kershaw didn't seem
(14:17):
like they were on the same page. The game got
a little fast for him. But we heard so much
about the offense, and I think he's had a hard
time adjusting for the first time in his professional career
and maybe baseball career, to not being the everyday guy.
And I think that's contributed to him only hitting two
hundred in his first eighty hat bats and having thirty
(14:40):
six strikeouts. But I still wouldn't trade him just for
a relief pitcher that has two years of service two
years left on his contract in Johan Durant. I just
I don't see Andrew Friedman doing that. I mean he
traded Cabert Ruiz for Mac Schuers and Trey Turner. That
(15:01):
doesn't seem to you know, that doesn't seem to add up.
And I will say this, you know, it's what the
Dodgers are somewhat at a crossroads with Dalton Russian. But
I'm not saying that he has to be traded by Thursday.
There's a possibility a better package of players or higher
(15:22):
caliber players are available this offseason and Will Smith is
going nowhere, So how is Russian going to play more
than what he's playing right now? But I don't believe
it's a certainty gets traded on Thursday. I actually believe
the Dodgers are going to make trades that are going
to improve them, but may not be the biggest splash
(15:44):
that you may be expecting. I wouldn't rule it out,
but I'm talking about the names we're hearing, like David Bednar,
racl and Glacias from the Braves. That's a real possibility
with the Braves selling off Iglacias being traded, maybe not
to the Dodgers, but by Thursday, and I would believe
the Dodgers would be involved in those talks. If Iglacias
(16:08):
is on the trade block, you know, I thought it
was interesting that the Twins traded Chris Paddock because they're
still trying to have the appearance of competing. So maybe
they need another, you know, rental starting pitcher. And they
have a guy by the name of Harrison Bader. That
guy is certainly a person of interest. He is a
(16:31):
guy that certainly could help the Dodgers play some better
outfield defense. He's a pretty good offensive player. He could
play center field, he could play left field, but primarily
center could be a big help. So those are the
type of guys that I think the Dodgers may be
looking for, because that's what's available. It's not who you want,
(16:52):
it's who's available. And with the third wildcard spot now,
it makes it a little bit more challenging to find
teams that are absent. Loot Sellers. Eight six six seven
two five seventy is the phone number. Let's go out
to Bryce in Gilbert, Arizona. You're on Dodgery Talk. Hi, Bryce,
how you doing?
Speaker 1 (17:11):
Dave A longtime listener, first time caller. Overall, I just
want to say I was telling my wife earlier I
was telling her that Mookie Best was gonna have a
three for four day. Turns out he had a great
Gabe point being, is I really think this was a
get right game for Mookie. I saw overall it was
really clean baseball. Freddie didn't have to dig out too many,
(17:31):
too many balls in the dirt.
Speaker 8 (17:35):
But yeah, Roger, there were a few. There were a few, Freddie.
I mean, I feel like that goes unnoticed. Goodbye. You
bryce to recognize that Freddie does a lot of things
to save a lot of errors and a lot of
wild throws. I thought the play that Freddie made in
the whereas it I circled it, it was in the
(17:55):
fifth inning to get Marte, a throw kind of in
the dirt by Mookie bets he was able to make
that play. And also in the seventh inning, same player Marte,
a throw by Kim just got him just in time,
and Freddie went down and stretched as far as he
could on that throw. So he's still making those type
(18:15):
of plays that a lot of people don't give him
credit for.
Speaker 1 (18:19):
Absolutely. You know, I also thought Yoshi pitched a gem
of a game suchially compared to last even though he
last game was awesome, you know, Blake trin and it
was awesome to see, although I thought he got snubbed
on a third call strike that kind of altered the
inning a little bit. But other than that, we have
Blake Snow coming back. I just think this rotation is
(18:40):
only going to get stronger. And you know, I've been
a fan sintil weight, barely missed any game since then.
I just enjoyed the roller coaster and go Dodgers man.
Speaker 8 (18:50):
All right, Bryce, thanks a lot for the phone call.
Appreciated eight six six nine eight seven two five seventy.
Dave Roberts said Clayton Kershaw is going to start the
opener Tampa Friday, and he still said Snell is going
to pitch this weekend in Tampa, So that leaves two
days Saturday or Sunday, So I mean doesn't really matter.
(19:11):
I mean, the Rays are aware that Blake Snell is
getting ready to pitch, and the Rays have a relief
pitcher that may be of interest to the Dodgers. Pete Fairbanks,
who is going to be owed next year close to
ten million dollars. Not sure if the Rays, with their
financial constraints, are willing to pay a closer ten million
(19:32):
dollars next year. So some in the industry believe the
Rays may do what the Rays do and trade Fairbanks
to try to get some help for this year because
they're hanging around in the wildcard race. So Pete Fairbanks
another name to remember. We're going to take a time
out here on Dodger Talk. When we come back, more
of your phone calls at eight six six nine eight
(19:52):
seven two five seventy we could get into more trade talk. Also,
we'll give you an update on Key Hernandez and you'll
hear from Alex after the Dodgers hold on for a
five to two win over the Reds on the World
Champion Dodgers Audio Network.
Speaker 6 (20:10):
Dodger Talk is available on AM five seven e LA
sports dot com, hand on the iHeartRadio app. Back to
more Dodger Talk with Dodger insider David Basse.
Speaker 11 (20:21):
Two one pitch swung a little grounder over the mountain
charge by Kim, plays it off the grass, quick signer
and flip the first Freeman keeps us foot on the
back as you had to dive up the line to
make the cash follow it to play both sides hes
Son Kim and Freddie Freeman and they record the final
out here in the bottom of the seventh inn.
Speaker 8 (20:41):
It Freddie Freeman doing everything tonight, driving in irun and
make him multiple great plays at first base to save
errors and to make some outs at first base tonight.
A great job by Freddie Freeman as the Dodgers defeat
the Reds five to two. David Vasse live in Cincinnati
(21:03):
at Great American Ballpark. We're with you until the bottom
of the hour. We have two lines open at eight six, six, nine,
eight seven, two, five seventy and we want to remind
you that Daniels Jewelers presents the home run forecast. Go
to AM five to seventy. LA sports dot Com used
the keyword home run for your chance to win a
fifty dollars Daniel Jeweler's gift card predicting the number of
(21:24):
home runs in the very next game. Daniels Jewelers own
the Dream. Dodgers beat the Reds tonight five to two.
Former Dodger Gavin Lux, who was the cleanup hitter tonight
and was the Reds dh Gavin Lux zero for two
tonight with two walks, including one leading off the ninth
inning against Blake trinin La de La Cruz. He was
(21:47):
held in check tonight. He was just one for three
with two strikeouts. Mookie Betts a big night for him,
in my opinion, his best offensive night since his walk
off home run against the Tiger in the home opener
at Dodgers Stadium, all the way back in March or April.
I forgot what month that was. Mooki tonight on base
(22:09):
three times. He had a leadoff double to start the
game and score three times. Shoe Aotani had a two
run double, scored his one hundredth run of the year,
and ta Oscar Hernandez starting to look or continued to
look like ta Oscar Hernandez. Eight six six nine eight
seven two five seventy is the phone number. Let's go
out to New Hall. Eddie. You're on Dodger Talk Live
(22:32):
from Cincy. How you doing, Eddie?
Speaker 4 (22:35):
It's going pretty good. Happy, Happy Monday.
Speaker 2 (22:39):
I've been a long time listener.
Speaker 4 (22:42):
I called a couple of times, but I'm just calling.
Maybe a little bit of a concern. I've been watching
some heart felt postgame shows after Dodgers lost, and I
look at the TV screen. Then I say, why don't
they play more small ball? I mean, I know they
played small ball today and did a squeeze play, which
is excellent, but I would like to see more of that,
(23:03):
so that way we could just tick off the other
opposing pitcher and get him off, and just get him
off of his little high horse and just get to
frustrating these pictures. And and then and and the next
thing I want to say is what do you what
do you think about just being aggressive and swinging at
the first pitch, because I've noticed in the first inning
they attacked like Mookie Bess first pitch and he and
he just kind of looks at it. So I just
(23:24):
want to I just want to know your tick about
just being aggressive and swinging at the first pitch, and
I'll listen for your answer.
Speaker 8 (23:31):
Okay, Eddie, I'm glad you listened to the answer. As
far as swinging at the first pitch, I think it's
all about the situation. It's all about what's going on
in the game. And Boston yesterday I didn't love Andy
Paie has swinging at the first pitch from Walker Buehler
after Buehler had loaded the basis with a couple of walks,
including walking in a run, and then Andy pa Haz
(23:53):
comes up with two outs and swings at the first pitch.
That wasn't to me a good aggressive game plan when
you have a guy that's struggling to throw strikes and
there's nowhere to go with the bases loaded. Other times,
I think it's appropriate to swing at the first pitch.
And I've never played in Major League Baseball, but last
(24:14):
week at Dodgers Stadium, we interview Tommy Edmond, and he's
a guy that understands the game, and I asked him
about that whole thing, swinging at the first pitch, being
aggressive early in the count, and he said the same thing.
The situation dictates your approach in the batter's box. And
I thought Jose Mota brought up a great point, pointed
(24:35):
out Otani understanding the Dodgers haven't really been having too
many team at bats. After Mookie's leadoff double, you got
a guy that is the best hitter in baseball, or
at least one of them, and he gives himself up,
hits the ball to the right side. That is the
type of baseball you need to try to win a championship,
(24:56):
and the Dodgers did a lot of that in October
last year. Those are the subtleties of the game, the
beauty of the game that isn't just so home run
derby ish eight six six nine eight seven two five
seventy is the phone number. Dodgers beat the Reds tonight
five to two. Yamamoto with nine strikeouts and seven innings
tonight allowed just one urn run to beat the Reds
(25:19):
and pick up his ninth win of the year. He's
now nine to seven on the season. We talked about
Tommy Edmond and how his right ankle is still barking.
We talked about how Max Munsey is on the way
back and may return as soon as the next homestand
after this long road trip, he is going to start
his rehab assignment with Oklahoma City playing third base tomorrow.
(25:41):
But you haven't heard a lot about keyk Hernandez and
what's going on with his left elbow. Well, earlier today
I asked Dave Roberts, what's going on with Keik.
Speaker 9 (25:51):
There isn't much clarity with Keik. He's I know that
he adds some he'said tree mins and he's had a
couple little procedures, not surgical, but just trying to kind
of move things along. But right now he's not playing catch,
(26:13):
he's not doing any baseball activities, so he's frustrated. I
just don't have a timeline right now, but expecting to
be back this year though, what's wrong with that? I
truly don't. I know that it affects his hitting, it
affects his sleep, so even everyday life.
Speaker 8 (26:33):
It's bothersome.
Speaker 11 (26:36):
Man.
Speaker 8 (26:36):
That sounds like a nerve issue in Keyk's left elbow.
That's what it sounds like to me, playing a doctor
on the radio. But KEYK loves the game so much.
I don't remember him ever being on the IL for
an extended period of time, at least with the Dodgers.
He may have. I think he was on the IL
for an extended time with the Red Sox. But this
(26:57):
certainly must be killing him, not being able to play
because he doesn't go on the IL for anything. And
that goes back to what I was mentioning earlier and
what I've been mentioning in the last week. How much
can the Dodgers count on Keith a Hernandez with what
Dave Roberts just said. Even if they believe he may
come back, which is no certainty, there's a chance that
(27:20):
they do need another right handed bat that can play
the outfield, and Harrison Bader fits that description. Eight six
six nine, eight seven two five seventy is the phone number.
Let's go out to John who was at the game tonight. John,
were you at Great American Ballpark tonight?
Speaker 1 (27:38):
I was.
Speaker 7 (27:39):
I was.
Speaker 3 (27:39):
I live in Louisville, Kentucky, and this is my first
Dodgers game ever anywhere. But randomly, I mean there were
a lot of Dodgers fans there. Randomly there were two
groups of people from my neighborhood. One of it was
actually in the same seating section as I was. But yeah, great,
I mean kind of hot. The weather's not good in
(28:00):
Cincinnati right now, certainly, not.
Speaker 8 (28:02):
Like I noticed. I noticed.
Speaker 3 (28:07):
Yeah, yeah, you were there.
Speaker 8 (28:09):
That's great that you you're from Louisville, considering both Dodger
catchers are Louisville products. And uh, the scout that signed
Bobby Miller, Will Smith and Dalton Rushing, Marty Lamb every
time we come to Cincinnati is here. And it was
great to see Marty before the game as well. So yeah,
strong Louisville connection with the Dodgers.
Speaker 3 (28:31):
Yeah, and I was disappointed to not see Will Smith
behind the plate, but you know, you get a day off.
I was also kind of disappointed not to see Tommy
Edmand out on the left side of the endfield. But
you know, but it was good. It was a great
know how to get that win over decent red team,
especially after dropping the the series to you know, to Boston.
(28:57):
You know, funny, plenty of time left in the in
the season, but certainly want to finish in the top
two in the Major SAK and appoint you know, maybe
have to play the Padres in that wild card round.
But we'll see what they see what they do. I
don't know, what do you what do you think, David?
Do you think Confordo is going to be with the
teams as we go through the trade deadliner?
Speaker 1 (29:19):
I do?
Speaker 10 (29:20):
I do.
Speaker 8 (29:20):
He's been playing better lately the last fifteen to thirty games.
He has close to a three hundred batting average. I know,
it's been a little sloppy and left field. You could
give him somewhat of a free pass at Fenway Park tonight.
I don't know what was going on with him. You know,
on that sinking line drive by Elie de la Cruz
(29:41):
in the seventh inning, that was just a misplay. But yeah,
I think if he's not, he will be on the team, John,
but he may not be playing every day. The Dodgers
may go matchup wise. So yeah, I do think Confordo's
still on this team after Thursday.
Speaker 3 (29:59):
And honestly, would I mean, let me know what you're
think about this. I would rather see Mookie back in
right fielder AO and left and then I'd like to.
Speaker 8 (30:12):
Yeah. So yeah, I understand John, I understand everybody can't
wrap their head around why the best right fielder of
this generation is playing shortstop. But I think Mookie, uh
it would you would you would?
Speaker 2 (30:29):
Uh?
Speaker 8 (30:30):
You would maybe lose Mookie Bets if you moved in
the right field because he's playing good enough shortstop to
be there. And quite honestly, uh, the hitting hasn't been there,
So I don't know. It's a tough spot. He's the shortstop.
I don't see him going to right field. I'll be
like Kershaw the other day. I'll say, if I say
too much, I'll get in trouble. So let's just leave
(30:50):
it there. He's the shortstop and I don't see him
going to right field this year.
Speaker 3 (30:55):
Well, the Todd has got a lot of a lot
of talent you know in the in field. Just just
gonna get a piece or two. That's just trade deadline
to you know, solidify things as we.
Speaker 8 (31:08):
Go into the Yeah, another right handed reliever and an
outfield bat that is right handed for sure. And by
the way, Colin, why don't we share again. The day
that Evan Phillips was officially lost for the season, Andrew
Friedman was on with Petro some money, and he was
pretty candid. He usually is not this candid with what
(31:29):
he may be targeting by this Thursday, but here was
Andrew Friedman at the end of May.
Speaker 5 (31:36):
If you look ahead to July, I think the most
likely area that we'd be looking is that kind of
right on right reliever. You know, Phillips filled it as
well as anybody in baseball. Diaz has historically been really
really good against right delivering. Got a little out of
whack that we're going to work with him on and
(31:57):
feel like he has a chance to really slide into
a media role for us and be able to handle
some really good right handed hitters.
Speaker 8 (32:05):
And Diaz is Alexis Diaz, who the Dodgers made a
trade with the Reds in May four. And Diaz is
part of the Dodger bullpen. We really haven't seen him
too much, but the trust factor needs to be built.
As Dave Roberts has said in the past, whenever they
get a new relief pitcher. But you heard Andrew Freeman
(32:31):
talk about needing a right handed reliever that's good against
right handed hitters. As good as Joan Durant has been
for the Twins this year, he has been much better
against lefties than he has been against right Yes, and
from what I understand, his pitch mix does not really
lend itself to him being dominant against right handed hitters.
(32:55):
Right handed hitters are hitting two sixty four against him.
Left handed hitters are only hitting a bucks seventy two.
So you know, if you're splitting hairs right there, that's
something to keep in mind. Eight six six nine eight
seven two five seventy is the phone number. By the way,
my guy David Bednar, and Pittsburgh has not given up
a run since May twenty third. Keep that in mind.
(33:17):
Let's go out to the four h five, Dan, You're
on Dodger Talk with David vasse Hi.
Speaker 1 (33:21):
Dan, Hey, Dave Rokie has vanished from the face of
the earth.
Speaker 3 (33:29):
What on earth?
Speaker 4 (33:30):
Is going on with him?
Speaker 1 (33:31):
What is his status, what's his condition?
Speaker 6 (33:34):
How?
Speaker 1 (33:35):
How bad was his injury? Where is he in rehab?
Speaker 8 (33:39):
Well, great question, Dan, Yes, he has vanished off the
face of the Dodger rotation. I've watched him play catch
quite a bit with eight different people watching him. My
understanding is that he's at Camelback Ranch and the Dodgers
having given up hope that he may pitch in September
or by September and what but his babble hits coming
(34:01):
up next Homestan.
Speaker 1 (34:05):
What was his injury? Was it that bad? Yeah?
Speaker 8 (34:09):
I think it's something to do with his shoulder. Nothing
that obviously prevents him from throwing. You throw a bullpen.
He's a guy that even coming out of Japan, Japanese
media members told me that sometimes the shoulder doesn't feel
right and it's not something that would end a season.
But yeah, that's what's going on with Rokie. But don't
(34:31):
give up hope, Dan. He may return, and if he does,
that's great, But this is a long term, a long
term project as well. He's on a rookie contract for
the next five years, so if it doesn't work out
this year, I wouldn't give up on it. It's a
pretty good contract. Thanks for the phone call, Dan. That'll
do it man. Another one where I feel like Kershaw again.
(34:53):
I should just end this right now before I get
myself in trouble. Anyway, Tomorrow the Dodgers' wife Time Glass
now on the mound, going up against Nick Lodolo Lodola
from Damian High School out there in Laverne, California. Tyler
Glass now from Hard High and Santla Karita. So that's
a cool so coal matchup tomorrow here in Cincinnati Morongo Casino.
(35:15):
Dodgers on Deck begins at three o'clock, with first pitch
at four to ten. I'm sorry we couldn't get to
Alex Vesia, but to hear our full conversation with him,
you can find it on the iHeartRadio app. Thanks to
Coline back at our Burbank Studios. Great to have Colin
back in the studio. Great to have Dwayne McDonald out
here in his hometown of Cincinnati, and thanks to you
(35:36):
for listening. And Jack Harris from the La Times has
showed up here in the booth as well, so thank
you Jack. Very interesting attire. He's wearing pantagonia vest It's
like one hundred and ten degrees with humidity at one
hundred and ten percent. Anyway, we'll be with you tomorrow
Fox Sports Radios next, have a great rest of your night.
(35:57):
See ya. Dodgers beat the Red Spot to two.
Speaker 2 (36:00):
The boy just don't it.
Speaker 8 (36:02):
I'm about as well Chester More. Don't be so silly,
So just just
