that they have.

to die too in a row.

To get in on the show called eight six six
nine eighty seven two five seven. We'll come to the show.
And now your host of Dodger Talk, David.

Speaker 6 (00:44):
Basse, Welcome the Dodger Talk.

Speaker 5 (00:48):
David vassay with you until eight thirty right here on
a five seventy LA Sports. The Dodgers have lost five
in a row after falling to the Brewers tonight by
a final score of three to one. We have phone
lines open at eight six six nine, eight seven two
five seventy. Later in the show, Jose Moto will check

(01:09):
in at eight point fifteen. Also Tim Kats and I
had ken Lee Jansen on the midday show. He'll hear
what Kenley had to say about his old buddy Kershaw
reaching the three thousand strikeout milestone. Kershaw pitched really well tonight,
by the way, six innings, two earned runs, and got
three strikeouts, so he's at three thousand and three in

(01:30):
his career. Also later in the show, we'll hear from
Edwin Diaz of the Mets talking about Alexis joining the Dodgers.
I had caught up with Edwin after Alexis was traded
to the Dodgers, and here he is. Alexis Das called
up earlier today from Oklahoma City, and I've heard different things,
good things about Alexis ds From what I understand, the

(01:53):
Dodgers were trying to help him be better out of
the stretch, which is always important as a relief pitcher.
But out of the wind up, his stuff has been
really good. They have gotten his delivery back on track.
They have helped him with his slider. So we'll hear
from Edwin in a moment. But as far as tonight's
game goes, I knew the Dodgers were going to have

(02:13):
their hands full with Jacob Miserroski, especially when you saw
the starting lineup today again for the third straight game
without ta Oscar Hernandez and Tommy Edmond. You know the
Dodgers are not going to have Max Munsey for the
next month, so this lineup did not look that impressive
to me, especially after the four spot they had Andy

(02:34):
Pajez cleaning up against a right handed, heart throwing pitcher
in Jacob Misraski. Otani hit a lead off home run,
and I can't believe Misserroski threw him a breaking ball
after blowing that fastball by everybody tonight. That was just
a really poor decision by him and his catcher. But nonetheless,
the Dodgers had an early one nothing lead, and not

(02:56):
until the sixth inning against Misroski did the Dodge have
anything going. The Dodgers had nothing going until the sixth inning.
They had runners at first and second, nobody out. Freddie
Freeman pulled the ball just inside the first base line.
It was still on the ground, so it wasn't out,
but he got the runners to second and third, and
the Dodgers could not get Otani and Betts home, or

(03:19):
at the very least Otani ninety feet away, representing the
tying run against Miserawski. In the sixth inning, Andy pa
has hit a ground ball to third base. Otani was
dead to rights at home and that was it, and
that was the end of the game. And Salfrellick hitting
a home runoff of Kirby Yates really put this game
away and the Dodgers' MVPs. I mentioned it several times,

(03:42):
but at bears repeating the top three hitters in this
lineup are not doing their jobs. Otani with the leadoff
home run, first time he has driven in a run
in six games. Mookie Betts in his last nineteen hitting
a buck ninety. I'm sure we'll have one call tonight
that wants to blame tonight's laws on MOOKI playing shortstop.
It's not the defense, I hate to break it to you.

(04:04):
It's his offense, and the position is not taking away
his offense. I don't know what's going on with Mookie,
except that seems like he has a lot of head
movements to try to get under the ball. His head's
got to be a lot more steady. You know, I'm
not a hitting coach, but I've been around a lot
of players and hitting coaches, and the one thing they
tell me is you can't have a lot of head

(04:26):
movement as the pitcher is delivering the ball because that
just changes the eye level of the pitch. And even
in batting practice, I'm just seeing a lot of head
movement from Mookie bats and you know, a lot of
times it's not that difficult to pinpoint what is going on.

Speaker 6 (04:44):
It's usually not.

Speaker 5 (04:46):
As complicated as everybody that's in it wants to make
it be. Mooki Betts is one of the best players
of this generation. It shouldn't be this much of a
challenge to just recognize the fact that his head is
moving too much. He's got his hands moving too much.
It's just too much, too much movement. Freddie Freeman, I

(05:08):
don't care what he says. His right ankle has got
to be bothering him because when he is going good,
he gets his front foot down and that happens to
be his right foot, right ankle, right foot. He's hitting
two hundred in his last thirty games with only one
home run. So those are the facts. And unless those
three guys get it going, the Dodger offense is not

(05:31):
producing the way it can eight six six nine seven
two five seventy is the phone number. Let's head back
to Milwaukee to hear from Shoho Tani and his interpreter
will Ierton show, Hey.

Speaker 8 (05:44):
Early in this game, you are the only one to
get to Misrawski. What were you seeing from him, your
impressions of him, and just what gave you the edge
in that and bad early in the game.

Speaker 9 (05:52):
Since Shani which Kuzushta, I'm all going to show up,
so the man, I wouldation me called.

Speaker 10 (06:05):
It's today, Uh no, the.

Speaker 11 (06:20):
Man it's yeah, it's just really good stuff, aggressive in
the zone. But what really stood out to me was
his commander and control, you know, the second half or
a day other at bat where it.

Speaker 12 (06:34):
Was running you know, running on base. By drove that
guy in, it would have been to zero, So I
think the situation would have been a little bit different.

Speaker 4 (06:41):
On that play where you tried to score. Is that
a go on contact play or what were you reading
there on the home and shout.

Speaker 10 (06:54):
No themaka thinking Massa put it, Yes, that was.

Speaker 9 (07:05):
A contact play.

Speaker 12 (07:06):
So I gave it to my guest and was hoping
for some kind of just miss missed execution on their part.

Speaker 2 (07:13):
But the third basement did a good job. Well is
it to get the offense going without Max, without Tao?

Speaker 4 (07:21):
The last couple Tommy.

Speaker 9 (07:24):
Manche that's not after.

Speaker 10 (07:34):
I don't know coma son I did that to the
night though, that uh my issue MoMA Makoto or star
Bret account.

Speaker 4 (07:54):
Uh my neighbor.

Speaker 10 (07:58):
Masla Skidle, she got a coach send gumble.

Speaker 4 (08:02):
About eight.

Speaker 10 (08:03):
They gives an a thumb with us.

Speaker 12 (08:05):
Yeah, I don't expect them to be gone for too long.
You have guys stepping up like Medgi Ro and as
long as we kind of give it our best shot
and make sure that we finished strong. I feel good
about the team when we have all off our guys back.

Speaker 6 (08:21):
All right.

Speaker 5 (08:21):
There is show Hey Tani and Will Ireton on sports
Net LA eight six six eight seven two five seventy
is the phone number.

Speaker 6 (08:29):
Dodgers have lost five.

Speaker 5 (08:30):
In a row tonight they go down three to one
to the Milwaukee Brewers. Let's lead off in Newport Beach, Ken,
You're on Dodger Talk.

Speaker 6 (08:38):
How you doing, Ken, I'm.

Speaker 3 (08:41):
Doing okay, you're your first answers. The phone very aptly
told me that it was five in a row last year,
So it does happen. Unfortunately, though, I don't remember the
Dodgers ever giving up forty one runs and scoring in
a five game period. That is unbelievable. And there are

(09:05):
some other things. And you brought him up really well
about Freeman, he doesn't strike out. What he's doing now,
that's twenty three strikeouts in the last fifteen games, and
you're right it has something to do with his ankle,
because that's not the normal guy. My only questions I
had is they had a couple of opportunities to source
some runs. They could have penchit for Autman who's hitting

(09:30):
one twenty nine. You could have had Smith pinch it
one of the best sitters in the league. Same thing
in the ninth inning when you've got Comforo hitting whatever
one sixty. It could have pinch it for Smith, but
he chose not to do it. And I'm not really sure.
Why do you have an idea.

Speaker 5 (09:48):
The only reason why they had Smith stirring around? I
think they were looking for a runner to get on
base before they brought Smith up. But it goes back
to the Dodgers really being disciplined enough to just let
will Smith have the full day off, but they were
he was stirring around in that dugout. So I'm not

(10:09):
sure who Dave Roberts was planning to have him pinch
hit for, but he certainly was stirring in the dugout
with a helmet and bat.

Speaker 3 (10:17):
Yeah. Okay, just one other question with going out on
a man on second third, should oh TONI been ten
fifteen feet off the base or should have been right
close to the base in case something like that happened.

Speaker 6 (10:33):
Uh.

Speaker 5 (10:34):
Dino Ebil explained this to me, and it's kind of
an in between. You don't want to get too big
of a lead because if it's a line drive, then
you're doubled off third base, so you don't want to
get too far off, but you don't want to have
too safe of a lead. Now, I'll tell you this,
Dave Roberts is not like other managers where a runner
at third less than two outs and he automatically puts

(10:57):
on the contact play. It's actually the op city. He's
not a big fan of the contact play. We don't
see a lot of guys just go on contact on
that play. But if it is a contact play, you
certainly want to have a little bit more of a lead.

Speaker 6 (11:11):
That was just bad read by Otani.

Speaker 3 (11:14):
It was, Hey, things have got to get better, and
they will.

Speaker 5 (11:19):
Yeah, I agree with that, Ken. They still have the
Dodgers still have the best record in the National League.
And look like I was telling Tim Kats and I
think I made his glasses clearer. Like Max Month seas,
when you look at the Dodger lineup today, it was
gonna be tough for them to win unless Otani, Bets,

(11:40):
and Freeman led the way. And Otani did leading off
the game with a home run, but after that, you know,
not much else from rookie Bets and Freddie Freeman.

Speaker 6 (11:49):
It just can't be Otani.

Speaker 5 (11:51):
They need at least two of those three guys to
be hitting at the same time, and we just haven't
seen it that often this season like we saw it
last year. Eight six, six, seven, two five seventy is
the phone number Dodgers fall to the Brewers tonight, three
to one. Clayton Kershaw, he may not have struck out
twelve batters and six innings, but he found a way

(12:14):
six innings, three strikeouts allowed just to earn runs.

Speaker 6 (12:17):
He's speaking to the media on sports and at LA.

Speaker 4 (12:20):
Yeah, I felt better, felt better for sure.

Speaker 13 (12:24):
Was able to throw the ball to both sides of
the play today, which helped a lot, just kind of
had more of a mix. It wasn't too wasn't as
predictable as I had been recently, So you know, overall
it was it was better.

Speaker 4 (12:36):
For sure, made some bad pitches there in the fourth.

Speaker 13 (12:40):
You know, there's a few hits that just left the
ball middle a few times, but overall it was a
little bit better today.

Speaker 4 (12:48):
I feel like they were hit the ball at hard
at it, you know.

Speaker 13 (12:51):
Uh, the one to Vaughan was a bad The one
of Vaughan was a mistake. I left that slider middle.
But yeah, you know, Concero's rolls that ball and then
Collins you know, off the glub of Mookie right there.
So those are tough. You can't really do a whole
lot about that. But yeah, the von one was a
mistake one for sure. Yeah, I don't know, huh, I

(13:12):
mean that was that was super impressive.

Speaker 4 (13:16):
Yeah, I mean, that's that was unbelievable. He's that was
really special.

Speaker 13 (13:20):
I mean everything you know, obviously the Vlo but He's
got four pitches.

Speaker 4 (13:26):
Commands the ball and made it. I mean, that's I
don't know how you hit that. Honestly, that's that's just
really tough.

Speaker 13 (13:33):
So I mean that that the three guys that came
out of the pen for them plus him. I mean,
I don't think we saw a fastball under ninety eight
to day as a team. So you know, you can
talk about struggling all you want, but I don't know how.
I mean, that's just this was just a tough game.
You know, I think we got to give up.

Speaker 4 (13:50):
I don't. I can't give up any runs. That's just
the way it goes.

Speaker 8 (13:53):
I'm locked up, are you feeling? Is kind of the
battle amongst you two.

Speaker 13 (13:58):
I mean I try to match the guy for sure,
you know, I think you know, show hey, it's at
Homer there. You try to make that stand up and
unfortunately that fourth inning just gave up, you know, one
too many.

Speaker 14 (14:08):
To think it more frustrating when it's you know, like
that fourth innered they're building the ending on you, like
with those base hits kind of like hard to control,
especially with what's happening on the other side.

Speaker 4 (14:21):
What's hard to control.

Speaker 7 (14:22):
That the way they're getting those hits not super hard.

Speaker 13 (14:26):
Oh that's just baseball, you know, that's just it's just
part of it, you know. You just I always think that,
you know, there's a line out waiting to happen.

Speaker 4 (14:34):
You know, if you get it bad. That's just the
way I look at it, So I don't. I don't
think about it in terms of bad luck or good luck.
It's just baseball, all right.

Speaker 5 (14:42):
There's Clayton Kershaw on sports and at LA he got
a big double play to get himself out of that
sixth inning, and that's what he does.

Speaker 6 (14:50):
He gets soft contact.

Speaker 5 (14:52):
Now he's not going to strike out twelve like miss
Rowski did tonight, and that was high praise from Clayton
Kershaw what he said, Jacob Mazeroski, and he's right. You know,
I know it's not an answer that any of you
want to hear, but it is baseball. When you have
that good of a pitcher that has four different pitches
he's throwing, it's going to be really hard to hit

(15:14):
him if he's on his game. And Misroski had his
command tonight and it was really hard to be a
Dodger hitter tonight as they fall three to one to
the Brewers. When we continue on Dodger Talk, we'll hear
from Kenley Janssen, as it is the first time he
has spoken publicly since his old buddy recorded three thousand strikeouts.
Ken Lee and Kershaw the last two active players in

(15:38):
Major League Baseball to train at Dodgertown in Vero Beach.
You'll hear from Kenley, and you also hear from Edwin Diaz.
Remember I caught up with him after Alexis, his brother,
was traded by the Reds to the Dodgers. Well, Alexis
das active for tonight's game, and certainly the Dodgers are
hoping he could be a big part of the bullpen

(15:59):
moving forward. Tonight, the Dodgers fall to the Brewers three
to one on a five to seventy LA Sports.

Speaker 7 (16:10):
On air at AM five to seventy, online at AM
five seventy LA sports dot com, and available by podcast
on the iHeartRadio app. This is Dodger Talk with David Bassin.

Speaker 2 (16:23):
He comes Sen and here comes the O two to
Otani Jacob Misowski and this one has hit wellness center field.

Speaker 15 (16:30):
This one's back and it has gone.

Speaker 6 (16:32):
And the show starts early tonight. And O two pitch O'tani.

Speaker 5 (16:37):
Hammers is thirty first home run of the season.

Speaker 2 (16:41):
The Dodgers jumped out on top. It is won to nothing.

Speaker 6 (16:49):
Show.

Speaker 5 (16:49):
Hey Otani gave the Dodgers some life in the first
inning with a leadoff home run, but that was the
only run the Dodgers scored in the game tonight, as
they fall to the Brewers three to one. The Dodgers
have lost five in a row, their lead in the
NL West is down to five and a half games.
The Giants have won three in a row during the

(17:11):
Dodgers five game losing streak and have closed the gap
to five and a half games. The padres down six
and a half in the NL West, and the Dodgers
and Giants will see each other before the All Star
Breaks starting Friday night at Oracle Park. Daniel Jewlers presents
the home run Forecast. Go to AM five to seventy
LA sports dot Com use the keyword home run for

(17:34):
your chance to win a fifty dollars Daniel Jelier's gift
card predicting the number of home runs in the next game.
Daniel Jewelers own the dream. We have two lines open
at eight six six nine, eight seven two five seventy.
Even though Alexis daz did not get into the game tonight,
he was active in the Dodger bullpen and Alexis Daz

(17:55):
is just a couple of years removed from being an
All Star closer for the Reds.

Speaker 6 (18:01):
Obviously, the talent is there.

Speaker 5 (18:03):
Don't know what went sideways in Cincinnati, but the Dodgers,
from what I was told about a week ago, they
felt like Diaz was in a good place as he
left Arizona and the pitching lab there at Camelback Ranch.
They wanted to see how it looked in games in
Oklahoma City. His first two outings were pretty good from

(18:23):
what I was told, the third one not very good
at all. And my understanding is they helped him with
his slider out of both the wind up and the stretch.
Now they're trying to get him to be quicker to
the plate, maybe even a slidestep out of the stretch,
to try to limit the base runners taken advantage, and
maybe make him a little bit more directional. I can't

(18:46):
wait to see it in action. And I know you
may be tired of hearing me talk about him, but
this is a trade that was a by low and
has a very high ceiling, and the Dodgers and probably
the Mets are the only two teams that could have
taken a flyer on Alexis DS and the Dodgers. I

(19:06):
believe we're fortunate to even take this gamble. I had
a chance to catch up with his brother, Edwin Diaz,
who's an All Star again. And here's what Edwin Diaz
had to say just the day after Alexis was traded
to the Dodgers.

Speaker 16 (19:20):
Yes, I mean he got three. I've been talking to
him and he's really happy. He's he really appreciated he
got thrad to the Doyers, So he's he's really happy.

Speaker 6 (19:28):
Was it close? Did you try to push for him
with the Mets?

Speaker 16 (19:32):
If? I wish if he got thraight to the met ball?
You know, he the Doyer picking him. He's in a
really good organization. Just happy for him, you know, looking
forward to seeing the big lion Edwin.

Speaker 6 (19:43):
He's a great closer as well.

Speaker 5 (19:46):
What what do you think the Dodgers can help him
get back to?

Speaker 6 (19:49):
What does he need to get back to be that
All Star?

Speaker 16 (19:52):
I think you'll fix his mechanics. I think he was
lily inconsistent this year. I think I think they have
the u everything to fix him, to help him, and
I think if they can find the problem, it would
be fine.

Speaker 5 (20:06):
Do you feel like a change of team scenery is
going to help him too.

Speaker 16 (20:10):
Yeah, saying you know if he was happy when he
got thrade, he was really happy. He called me, I'm
going to the Doyer, so I would see you next
week or in the playoffs. So he's really happy. I'm
happy for him. Just can't wait to see him in
the Billy again. I'm doing his job helping that in
to win.

Speaker 6 (20:25):
All right.

Speaker 5 (20:26):
There's Edwin Diaz of the Mets talking about his former
All Star closer brother Alexis Das, who is now part
of the Dodger bullpen. So looking forward to see Alexis
come into a game and see what it looks like,
to see whether or not it looks close to the
way it looked two years ago with the Reds. Because
if the Dodgers hit on this one, that is going

(20:48):
to be a big boost and also take some pressure
off of them having to fight with other teams for
a high leverage right handed reliever at the trade deadline.
Eight six six seven seventy is the phone number. Earlier today,
Tim Kats and I filled in for Petro some money
during the mid days and we had a chance to

(21:08):
catch up with Angels closer ken Lee Jansen, who now
has four hundred and sixty two career saves three hundred
and fifty of them with the Dodgers. No other picture
in baseball history saved more Kershaw wins than ken Lee Jansen.
Kenley talked about his old buddy Kershaw reaching that three

(21:28):
thousand strike milestone earlier today.

Speaker 15 (21:31):
Oh, thank you, thank thanks for having me off, Sam.
Always great talking to you, man.

Speaker 5 (21:36):
I was thinking about coming to the Angels game today
and doing Dodger talk from the big A just to
see you.

Speaker 15 (21:42):
Oh that's awesome, that's awesome.

Speaker 4 (21:44):
You should have.

Speaker 5 (21:44):
You should have, Hey, ken Ley, nobody has saved more
Kershaw wins than you. Let's start right there were you?
Where were you watching Kershaw get his three thousand strikeout?
And what did you think about all that?

Speaker 15 (22:00):
Man? I think, first of all, I think I was
in Toronto. I think, if I'm not mistaken, in Toronto
or Atlanta. But man, it was awesome watching that man,
you know, knowing how hard he worked. You know, I
was the first one who Kershaw in his professional career,
you know, in Golf Coast League in verbe Beach, you know,

(22:22):
way back then in six and man to see him,
saw him get three thousand strikeouts, you know, that's that's
that's unbelievable. So I'm happy for him, you know, and
you know what an unbelievable Hall of fam career and
probably one of the best. You're probably going to go

(22:46):
down in Dodgy history, you know, so to ever wear
that uniform.

Speaker 5 (22:50):
Ken Ley, Uh, I know everybody tries to attach pictures
to catchers, but to me, because he's had so many
different catchers, you guys are linked forever. I mean because,
like you mentioned Vero Beach, you guys were the last
two Dodgers to ever train at Dodger Town.

Speaker 6 (23:08):
In Vero Beach.

Speaker 5 (23:08):
You saved more of his wins than anybody else. Do
you feel like you have that connection to him?

Speaker 12 (23:15):
Yeah?

Speaker 15 (23:15):
I always have connections, man, you know, like I always
you know, when you talk about Cursy, talk about the
Dodgers man, and you know that's how he become now.
And you know, it's awesome to just be his teammate.
You know, I'm glad that I was his teammate for
you know what, twelve twelve years in my career in

(23:35):
the big leagues and a few of them in the my.

Speaker 4 (23:37):
Leagues, So.

Speaker 15 (23:39):
Yeah, I always will feel that connected, especially you know,
like you say, you know, I've got majority of my
saves I got with him, so it's awesome to st
you know, him getting in two thousand strikeouts.

Speaker 6 (23:53):
All right, there's ken Lee Jansen.

Speaker 5 (23:54):
He joined Tim Kats and I during the midday hours
today on am FHI seventy LA Sports. If you want
to hear the full conversation with the current Angels closer,
you can find it on the iHeartRadio app and look,
Kenley signed a one year deal with the Angels. The
Angels are a game or two under five hundred going
into tonight's game. I think that game started already. It

(24:17):
was supposed to start at six point thirty. But nonetheless,
the Angels are in a weird spot because they're under
five hundred. But they're only four and a half games
out of the last wildcard spot, so they're going to
have to wait and see all the way up to
the deadline midnight striking hour on July thirty first, about
whether or not they want to sell. And right now

(24:38):
my understanding is Perrmanissian is the train of thought. They
want to be buyers if they make a trade. They
don't want to do it for next year. They want
to help themselves this year. But if the Angels do
become sellers, Kenley Jansen might be on the move at
the trade deadline. And I know he wants to stay
with the Angels. He actually likes being part of that team.

(25:01):
So we'll see what happens at the trade deadline. But
we're getting closer. And one name also to keep in
mind is David Bednar of the Pirates. He definitely is
a guy that could be dealt at the trade deadline.
I've always been a big fan of David Bedinar. We'll
see where he lands as well. Eight six six nine,
eight seven, two five seventy is the phone number Dodgers

(25:23):
fall to the Brewers three to one. Let's see what
Jose Moda has to say about tonight's game.

Speaker 7 (25:28):
It's time to go around the horn with Jose Mota.

Speaker 5 (25:33):
I was trying to give warnings last night about Jacob
Mizarowski Jose Mota, and man was he on his game tonight.

Speaker 2 (25:40):
You're handcuffed all the way. That's pretty much the way
I can describe it, the way big leagu hitters have
described performances like this and you know, I'm sure he
wants that pitch back from Oltania on the spinner that
he missed out over the play. But this kid's not
a thrower. He's a picture. I mean, competes a lot,
a lot of emotion. The only saying who's that you
know you can talk about it is if they chase,

(26:02):
and they chase because he forces them to change. But man,
he was on spot a lot of looking strikeouts, calls
rockcouts and just working ahead to which is very impressive.
They think about first, what's five hitters? He had strike
one on them. It was like automatic and it didn't
have to be the same pitch. But it's one of
those times when you know, you got to win that
game to one, three to one. If anything, you got

(26:23):
to play good defense and minimize mistakes by Clayton Kersher
himself at a very fine job too.

Speaker 6 (26:29):
Yeah, he really did.

Speaker 5 (26:30):
And isn't it interesting, jose how Kershaw and toe to
toe with a young rookie right hander throwing as hard
as he was, striking out twelve Dodgers and Kershaw just
doing his thing at thirty six years old, going toe
to toe with him.

Speaker 2 (26:46):
Yeah, usually, I mean back to the grom days and
Harvey days and veteran pitchers do like that. Talleng like, okay,
let me see with the new kids at Paul Screen's days,
all those things and they step up. Man, I'm glad
they cursed hit. Not without trying to be anything else
about what he is, which is just a very efficient uh,
A guy that knows how to locate the baseball, a

(27:08):
guy that knows how to spread the zone when he
needs to, a guy that was able to minimize a
lot of damage and also due to a lot of
soft contact, not having to chase Rock yesterday was a
big thing for him obviously. And uh, it was good
to see Church being back to church and you know
this offensiveways going to that. It's one of those times
when if if you have history and and and going
through times like this, you kids sit and way back

(27:31):
for things to happen. Now, you gotta even with with
with not being in the league, you gotta go out there,
maybe put some runners in emotions. Some guys can benefit
from that, not just from the you know, the running
side of make getting him at a second base, but
also from their approach. You know, sometimes the purchases are lost. Uh,
there's a time which you got to go out there
and just put runners of motion. May guys minimize things

(27:52):
a little bit more on games like today, so and
the guys are a lot of strike but obviously there
was not a lot of opportunities. But you got to
go out there and change a little bit. I'd like
to see that happen to mor against Kintana.

Speaker 5 (28:02):
Okay, So what do you make about that play in
the sixth inning? Andy pa has at the plate, Mooki
at second, Otani at third with one out. Obviously a
great play by the third baseman, But what is Otani
supposed to do there, especially since the contact play wasn't on.

Speaker 2 (28:19):
I believe that a contact play was on, is what
I believe the show he said.

Speaker 15 (28:23):
And if you have.

Speaker 2 (28:24):
A contact play on, you go. You are going, no
matter what. If it's a line drive, he could be
doubled up, but if it's a contact play, you're going
no matter what. Great job by the third basement of Monasteri.
He actually found the lane to make that throw right
away because he wasn't even playing that close to home plate.
He was playing a little bit far back. So in
that case, I think Otani maybe could have had another

(28:45):
step step and a half on the line and maybe
above the throw. But if it's a contact play, you
have to go. And he's played it quite well. Dave too,
because Dave Roberts is not as emphatic about as Mike
Soshia was in his playing days, where he would just
have a contact play on constantly and he takes a spot,
but he took the right spot there, and the guy
just made a tremendous play.

Speaker 5 (29:05):
Is Otani supposed to get a bigger lead when the
contact plays.

Speaker 2 (29:08):
On depends on where your third basement is and who's up.
If it's obviously left un a batter, a guy's off
the line, you can, you know, get way more a
guy like Payas hitting, Just see how deep he is.
He's gonna be closer to the line because it's run
hind of batter. But you got to make sure that
at least you can take a shuffle step stop and
get back easily without having to worry about getting back

(29:29):
to the base. But in that case, you do have
to take a more aggressive lead.

Speaker 5 (29:33):
That sixth inning, Jose, that was the best look at
the game the Dodgers had.

Speaker 2 (29:37):
Yes, it was a sixth inning that I was just there.
I mean, they are like one good contact away from
getting to a fastball. But the kid has so much
spin on that thing is as hard to square up.

Speaker 5 (29:48):
When you look at the Dodgers Big three of Otani,
Bets and Freeman obviously show Hey hitting the leadoff home run.
He was on base a couple of times as well,
but Mookie struggles continued. Freddy Freeman struggles continued. When are
they going to figure it out? Or and do you
believe it's gonna be before the All Star break?

Speaker 2 (30:06):
I believe it's gonna be for the All Star break,
because you know, in your clock is a play you
don't you don't play with the All Star break, and
mind you don't play well off days and money play
about tomorrow and getting right in the older a very
common thing right now. All three in fact only going
to include pies on that one too. They're just not
on time. I mean they're just not able to catch up.
And it's not about velocity, about not catching up with

(30:29):
the swings are supposed to take to square about you know,
when guys are scuffling like this, they'll tell I'm falling
off my pitch. I'm falling off my pitch. I'm chasing pitches,
but they're just not getting there on time. And a
lot of times when you start thinking about bass hits
instead of the process, it is exactly what whacking mechanically.
You got to get back to what longs are. It's
just a matter of waiting on the ball a little

(30:52):
bit more, but making sure you're not lunging for the baseball,
which is what they're doing a lot of times right now.

Speaker 5 (30:57):
All right, Ose, we'll see if the Dodgers can get
back on track, back on a very different style of
pitcher tomorrow. Jose Contana and uh, hopefully taoscar and Tommy
Edmond are back in the starting lineup because they make
a huge difference.

Speaker 2 (31:10):
Yes, I do, hopefully that will tom Morgan's Kinana.

Speaker 6 (31:13):
All right, Jose, thanks for checking in. We'll talk to
you tomorrow. There he goes.

Speaker 5 (31:18):
Jose Mota part of the Dodgers Spanish radio broadcast with
Pepe and Ninguez and Luis Cochito Cruz.

Speaker 6 (31:25):
So, yeah, Otani, I was mistaken.

Speaker 5 (31:27):
Otani did say the contact play was on in that
sixth inning, So that means no matter what you're going,
even if it's right out the third basement, you're going,
and that's what he did.

Speaker 6 (31:38):
It just was a.

Speaker 5 (31:40):
Poorly hit ball by Pa Has as far as placement,
and a great play by the Brewers third baseman. Eight
six six nine eight seven two five seventy is the
phone number Dodgers fall to the Brewers tonight, three to one.
Let's go out to Mike in Irwindale, Irwindale. When I
hear about Rwindale, Mike, I automatically think about that big

(32:00):
hole dug off the two ten freeway for Al Davis's
new stadium that never was.

Speaker 1 (32:07):
Yeah, I'm working right across the street from there. But anyway, David,
thanks for taking my call. Yeah, with all these you know,
picking up Alexis Diaz, you're mentioning David ben Kenley perhaps
becoming available. I mean, what's that say about the Dodgers

(32:30):
trying to put some pressure on Tennor Scott.

Speaker 5 (32:34):
Well, you know what, Honestly, I just mentioned that Kenley
Jansen could be traded not necessarily to the Dodgers, David
Bednar could be traded not necessarily to the Dodgers. And
I guess I should qualify all that because I know
everybody's focused on pitching for the Dodgers. The Dodger pitching
is getting healthier by the day. I am an advocate

(32:56):
that the Dodgers may need another bat in the outfield.
Michael CONFORDO. It doesn't seem like he's hitting on all cylinders.
He's showed signs of life. Maybe he's a bench player
at this stage because the season hasn't gone his way.
The Dodgers could improve their outfield defense in some ways
with the trades. So I'm kind of if if you

(33:18):
had to tell me you can only make one trade
if you're the Dodgers, I would say, make a trade
for an outfielder.

Speaker 17 (33:26):
Yep, and one more day. Is it time to drop
Mooki down?

Speaker 7 (33:31):
Eight?

Speaker 17 (33:31):
Eight or nine?

Speaker 6 (33:33):
I think it's not that far down.

Speaker 5 (33:35):
But here's the here's the problem. You drop Mookie Bets down,
who's moving up? You got a lot of injured players,
and then you risk the danger of really damaging Mooki's confidence.

Speaker 17 (33:48):
Okay, Yeah, don't want that to happen, that's for sure,
all right, day, Well, yeah, appreciate your time.

Speaker 5 (33:56):
Okay, Mike, thanks a lot for the phone call. That'll
do it for us tonight on Dodger Talk. And yeah,
you know, I think I'm gonna pump the brakes on
mentioning pitchers when it comes to the trade deadline.

Speaker 6 (34:07):
Like I said, if you had to say.

Speaker 5 (34:09):
David, you can only make one trade, what would it be,
what position, what area of the team would it be in.
I would say, if there is a good outfielder that
can hit and play defense, that would be my choice
over a starting pitcher or a closer. Because I don't
believe the Marlins are gonna trade Sandy Alcantara. I don't
believe some of these really good relievers like Emmanuel Class

(34:31):
are gonna be traded with two more years of control.
So to me, I feel like offense and maybe outfield
offense is where the Dodgers can improve on. By the
time July thirty first rolls around tomorrow, like I mentioned,
the Dodger pitching getting healthier by the day. Tyler Glass
now will make his first start for the Dodgers since

(34:53):
May thirty first. He's going up against veteran Jose Cantana,
who is six and three this season with the Niarey
at three forty four Morongo Casino Dodgers on deck begins
at ten am tomorrow, with first pitch at eleven ten
from American Family Field. Still seems weird to call it back,
It's Miller Park anyway. Thanks to Colin ee back at

(35:17):
our Burbanks Studios, Thanks to Dwayne McDonald in Milwaukee, and
thanks to you for listening. In case you missed any
of the show, you can find it on the iHeartRadio app.

Speaker 6 (35:27):
Once again.

Speaker 5 (35:28):
The final score tonight from American Family Field. The Dodgers
fall to the Brewers three to one. Have a great
rest of your night, Fox Sports Radios. Next, we'll talk
to you tomorrow morning.

Speaker 6 (35:39):
See you
