Speaker 1 (00:01):
One thing about this gene is the invisible and tangibles
that they have. This team is really becoming a family.

Speaker 2 (00:09):
Let's not play one on Tom. Let's I love writing
me these guys after the show. So just thank you,
give me are.

Speaker 3 (00:15):
Your attention, your fire a piss.

Speaker 4 (00:17):
This is world champion, Dodger, world champion being put a small.

Speaker 3 (00:22):
Soft time they get a people what they want to
die in a row two is special. I'm like, yeah,
it's not a headache one of them. Con this ball's gone.
You ready to go to.

Speaker 4 (00:35):
Grab your phone to get in on the show called
eight six six nine eighty seven two five seven and
go to the show. And now your host of Dodger Talk,
David Vasse.

Speaker 3 (00:46):
Welcome the Dodger Talk. David Vassay with you until four
o'clock this afternoon. That's where Petros returns and he is
joined by Don McClain, the all time leading scorer in
PAC twelve history. There coming up at the top of
the hour, but until then, it's time for your phone calls.
At eight six six nine, eight seven, two five seventy.

(01:08):
Jose Moto will join us at three forty five. We
will get into some mind numbing trade talk. And also
in just a minute here I'll get into Jacob Mizerowski
and Clayton Kershaw because I have some strong opinions about
the way that has been covered here all day long.

(01:28):
But first and foremost, we got to get to the games, right.

Speaker 2 (01:32):
Uh.

Speaker 3 (01:32):
The games have not been good for the Dodgers in
the last six and Dave Roberts warned about this two
weeks ago when the Dodgers were beating up on the Rockies,
the Royals, the White Sox. He warned you, the Dodgers
were not playing their best. And you can get away
with not playing your best and not hitting your best
against those teams. But then when you run into two

(01:52):
buzzsaws in the Astros, the team that is the hottest
in baseball since June first, and then you run into
the team that is the hottest in the National League
since May twenty second, you got some problems. And that's
why the Dodgers have lost six in a row. It's
compounded by the fact the Dodgers are not getting much

(02:14):
of anything from Otani, Freeman and Betts. And yes, I
know Otani has thirty one home runs, most Enfranchise history.
So for the most part, you can exclude him from
that conversation. But the reality is Freddie Freeman has been
struggling since June first. Mookie Betts has been struggling all

(02:34):
season long. He hasn't done much of anything since his
walk off home run the first home stand of the
season against the Tigers. Again today, at least he got
the job done with the sacrifice fly with the bases
loaded in the seventh inning. But he did not have
a hit today. But you got to give him credit.
He did more than what most guys did today as

(02:55):
the Dodgers scored two runs without even having an RBI
bas hit. He drew a bases loaded walk, and Mookie
Betts had to go ahead sacrifice fly with the bases
loaded in one out in the seventh inning. And the
Dodgers go down to the Brewers today, three to two
in ten innings. They've lost six in a row. They
were just swept in Milwaukee for the first time in

(03:16):
franchise history. That's right, the Brewers have never swept the
Dodgers in Milwaukee since these two teams started playing each
other on a regular basis. When the Brewers came to
the National League in the mid nineties, eight six six
nine eighty seven two five seventy is the phone number
Andrew vaugh Yeah, Andrew vaugh You might have had his

(03:39):
rookie card when he was with the White Sox and
threw it away five years ago. And the White Sox,
who are the worst team in the American League, did
not think much of Andrew Vaughn, so they traded him
for basically nothing. And Andrew Vaughn appeared in his first
three games as a Brewer against the Dodgers. First night,
hit a three on home run against Yamamoto, Yesterday hit

(04:03):
a base it RBI based off a Kershaw, and then
today the game tying RBI single in the ninth inning.
I feel like we've had our fill of Andrew Vaughan.
I mean, you can't make this stuff up. When a
guy that was a first round draft pick never lived
up to the potential, is traded in a marginal type

(04:23):
of trade with the Brewers and has such a big
impact in his first three games with Milwaukee against the Dodgers,
who are now tied with the Cubs for the best
record in the National League. By the way, the Brewers
just two and a half games back of the NL
Central leading Cubs and the Dodgers are very fortunate. The
Phillies blew out the Giants today. The Phillies shut out

(04:47):
the Giants last look eleven to nothing in San Francisco.
So the Dodgers are five and a half games ahead
of the Giants, six games ahead of the Padres, who
played later tonight at Petco Park. Eight seventy is the
phone number. Let's go out to the phones for the
first time today. Eric in Hollywood, he's always positive. Go ahead, Eric,

(05:09):
do your thing.

Speaker 5 (05:10):
God, jord they shuit there.

Speaker 6 (05:12):
It is man, dv I. This was a gut punch.
Six games was a gut punch. But I took a
look at the standings and we were We had the
same record last year and that was on our way
to the World Series. Now teams are gonna play up
for us, like you said, and these this is their
World Series for them. So hey, man, kudos tou von

(05:32):
or whatever his name is, and kudos to all that
bullpen whatever.

Speaker 2 (05:36):
I could care less.

Speaker 6 (05:37):
The silver lining is we got Glass now.

Speaker 7 (05:39):
Back, and he looked good.

Speaker 6 (05:41):
He looked really good out there, and I was really excited.
And we're starting to get our arms back, and and
Yates and Scott will put it together. But we have
to weather this storm, and we're gonna put it together,
but we're gonna get our pitching back. So I am
absolutely not worried. I am We're gonna get beat up sometimes,
but hey, we just have to weather this storm. Like
Doc said, Hey, we're marred in it right now, but

(06:01):
we are going to get out of this just as
long as we get our arms BACKDV.

Speaker 2 (06:06):
How's the food out there?

Speaker 4 (06:07):
Man?

Speaker 2 (06:07):
You didn't just posted that slide? Did you? Staying away
from that slide? Right bro?

Speaker 3 (06:10):
Nobody ever brings that up. Thanks for the phone call. Yeah,
thank you, Eric for extending the streak of somebody referencing
me going down the Milwaukee slide every day since twenty
twenty two, so you kept the streak alive. I appreciate that.
You know. It's interesting today Tanner Scott was brought in
to try to close out a four out save. He

(06:32):
was unsuccessful in doing so, and Kirby Yates gives up
the winning run in the tenth inning. Those were the
two high priced free agent relievers the Dodgers signed during
the off season, and they weren't able to get the
job done today eight six, six nine eighty seven two
five seventy is the phone number. Let's go out to
Kevin in Culver City. You're on Dodger Talk. Hi, Kevin David.

Speaker 7 (06:55):
What's up my man?

Speaker 2 (06:56):
How you going?

Speaker 5 (06:56):
Man?

Speaker 3 (06:57):
Better than the Dodgers these days? Kevin?

Speaker 2 (07:00):
Yes, Ben tough.

Speaker 7 (07:01):
We got to get my voice, smell Zilla back out there,
get Snell pitching the game and uh uh, well, I
want to ask you about a couple of guys. And
you know how I am. I like to go big.
Then you got to shake it up a little bit.
What's going on with my boy Mike Trout coming up
the freeway to the Dodgers and you know, trying to
just win this World Series with Trout united with Otani,

(07:23):
Chance and and your homeboy Aernato. Maybe to help out
with Munsey being out a little while, Nolan Aeronato, is
that a possibility?

Speaker 2 (07:32):
I think you could kind of help run us out.

Speaker 7 (07:34):
I think in the playoffs you're gonna see your boy
Tani closing out some games. If we gotta win a
World Series or a National Championship, Otani's gonna have to
come in and close and from these games off.

Speaker 3 (07:44):
That that's the one thing I agree with you out
of the three things you said, that makes the most sense. Yes,
I completely see Otani coming in in an nlcs UH
ninth inning where the Dodgers are holding on to a
lead to close out the game. And I completely see
if the Dodgers get there in the World Series, Otani

(08:04):
a la World Baseball Classic, striking out Mike Trout being
the closer in the World Series as well. So the
other two, no thanks, They're both past their primes. The
Dodgers are not trading for Mike Trout and the Angels
are not going to trade Mike Trout to the Dodgers.
And Nolan Arenado, I'm sorry. He's not the hitter that

(08:25):
he was even three years ago, and the defense isn't
as good. And nobody has been a bigger advocate for
Nolan Aernado than yours, truly, but that time is past.
You got to turn the page and look. The Dodgers
plan on getting Max Munsey back in the next month,
and until they do, they can hold it down with
Miguel Rojas in some form of Tommy Edman with keyk

(08:47):
a Hernandez on the IL. And yes, I know the
Dodgers have Otani betson Freeman and Will Smith and Andy
pa Has, but they are missing Max Munsey in this lineup.
They are missing Tioscar Hernandez, who has been playing hurt
for the last month. They are missing Keike Hernandez right now.
And look, Freddie Freeman. They're missing the real Freddy Freeman.

(09:10):
Because Freddy Freeman has got to be playing through pain
to look as bad as he is looking. It's not
so much not getting hits, but it's the pitches that
he's swinging at and some of the swings he has.
It's just not Freddie Freeman. Like eight sixty six ninety
seven two five seventy is the phone number. Dodgers get
swept in Milwaukee today, the final score three to two

(09:33):
in ten innings. Doug in Riverside, You're on Dodger Talk.
How you doing, Doug.

Speaker 8 (09:38):
Hey, Dave the man, that's what you are, buddy, Thank you.
I know you talked to Freddy all the time. He's
terms like a really nice guy. But has he talked
to his dad because his dad straightens him out every
time he goes into slumps.

Speaker 3 (09:53):
He talks to his dad a lot these days, but
his dad can't take the ad bats for him and
look that that's why I believe Freddy's compensating for his
right ankle. You know, that thing just hasn't gone away.
It's still there, and he gets an hour and a
half treatment before every game to just be able to play.
And I believe in the last month somewhere someway he

(10:16):
reaggravated it. But it's still going out there to play
every day. I don't care what anybody tells me.

Speaker 8 (10:22):
Yeah, swing looks nasty. I've never seen him swing it
like that at all. It's a terrible.

Speaker 3 (10:26):
His front foot is his right foot, by the way,
he said, that's the key to everything. So even if
he's a split second off, because that right ankle's not cooperating,
it's messing up his timing.

Speaker 8 (10:38):
Yeah, that's true. Also, how come they haven't bought Zayer
Hope up here to take Conforto spot because he's killing
it down there in the triple A.

Speaker 3 (10:47):
He's not at Triple A, he's at high A. So
that's the reason why he still has some seasoning. But look,
Michael Confordo, and thank you for the phone call, Doug.
Michael Conforto's time with the Dodgers has the everyday fielder
may be coming to an end. I know everybody talks
about the Dodgers trading for pitching, and yes, Andrew Friedman's

(11:08):
on the record is saying they would love to get
another right handed reliever. Who wouldn't But I personally believe
the splash the Dodgers can make at the trade deadline
and what they need to make at the trade deadline
more than adding another pitcher is an outfielder a bat
And it's a little bit more challenging than what it
seems to be on the surface, because there still are

(11:31):
a lot of teams that have pressure in their hometowns
to try to give it a go down the stretch
run to be a wildcard team. But you got to
look at some of these teams and they have to
realize that, no, you're not going to be, so why
not sell and get some value back for some of
your valuable players. And the four outfielders that I singled

(11:53):
out that could be traded by July thirty first is
the Red Sox Jaron Duran, Long Beach State dirt bag
Taylor Ward of the Angels, Steven Kwan, who's a contact
hitter with the Guardians, who couldn't use that with the
Dodgers after they struck out thirty seven times in these
three games. And Byron Buxton of the Twins, who is

(12:13):
under contract until twenty twenty eight. He's had trouble staying
on the field, but this year he has stayed on
the field. And when he was healthy and just getting
called up, he was compared to Eric Davis, that's how
good he was. He's sitting two seventy this year with
twenty home runs. Those would be the four outfielders. Realistically,
I believe the Dodgers could have conversations about and Look,

(12:37):
I'm a big Byron Buxton fan, and the Dodgers have
acquired players in the past that have had soft tissue
injuries and they've been able to manage them. Look, I'm
not saying Byron Buxton's a slam dunk, but this year
he has been healthy, and maybe the Dodgers can keep
him healthier, not only the rest of this year, but

(12:58):
going through the rest of his contract. Long shot maybe,
But I mean, the Dodgers do need another bat in
the outfield, and that could help them just get better
defensively and offensively. All four of those guys eight six, six, seven,
two five seventy is the phone number. Dodgers fall to
the Brewers today, three to two in ten innings. Let's

(13:19):
go out to Lionel in LA. You're on with David
vasse high Linel.

Speaker 2 (13:24):
Hey, Dave, how are you doing.

Speaker 3 (13:25):
I'm doing great, good, good to hear you.

Speaker 2 (13:28):
I enjoy the way you uh talk about the Dodgers
and you say it like it is. I'm gonna give
Davey Roberts props for winning the World Series, but he's
killing me. I don't I don't know. I don't like
his decisions.

Speaker 9 (13:43):
Like today's game, Lookie was up and Looki's not hitting
the ball, and you had Kim at second base and
you only had one out. If Lookie's not hitting the ball,
why don't you just play small ball A bunt the ball.
You got to move that runner over and he's not.

Speaker 2 (13:59):
I don't know. Sometimes when if the guys are not hitting,
you got to play some all ball.

Speaker 3 (14:03):
Hey, I'm with you and putting when your offense is struggling,
you've got to put runners in motion. But I'm not
having MOOKI bets bunt. Lionel. You're you are in the
same neighborhood that I'm thinking but we're not on the
same page with Mookie Bets sacrifice bunting.

Speaker 2 (14:19):
Yeah, but he's not hitting the ball.

Speaker 3 (14:21):
Yeah yeah, well he's got yes, but Mookie Bets, how
many times have you seen him?

Speaker 2 (14:27):
Button Linel, what's that again?

Speaker 3 (14:29):
How many times have you seen Mooki bunt?

Speaker 2 (14:31):
Not much? But if your top three guys are not
doing something, you got to move the guy over.

Speaker 3 (14:35):
I mean, there's other ways to move them over today.
There's other ways to move them over than bunting. Like
I said, you're in the right neighborhood, but not in
that situation. I'm not having Mooky Bets bunt. Thanks for
the phone call, appreciate it. Eight six six nine eighty
seven two five seventy is the phone number. We're gonna
take a time out. When we come back, we'll let
you know about the Dodgers pitching plans going into the

(14:58):
All Star break. Also will give you an update on
Blake Snell and what's this all about? Jacob Miseroski insulted
by Clayton Kershaw. I am going to quote a quote
the great Pedro Martinez right now. Who is Jacob Miseroski,
Who is Kareem Garcia? Are you kidding me. Dodger Talk

(15:21):
right around the corner until four o'clock right here on
five seventy LA Sports.

Speaker 4 (15:32):
Dodger Talk is available on AM five seventy LA sports
dot com, hand on the iHeartRadio app. Back to more
Dodger Talk with Dodger insider David Basse.

Speaker 3 (15:46):
No highlight, sacrifice, fly bases loaded, walk. Don't want to
play that highlight. Huh. Dodgers fall to the Brewers three
to two in ten innings today. They have lost six
in a row for the first time since twenty nine.
David Vase Dodger Talk with you until four o'clock this afternoon.
That's when Don McClain and Petros Papadeka's takeover. The Dodgers

(16:09):
have a day off tomorrow, and we'll be back in
action on Friday as they close out the pre All
Star Breaks schedule with three games in San Francisco. It
will be Dustin May against Logan Web on Friday, and
then on Saturday, Shoe Otani will make his final start
before the All Star Break, and Emmett Shehan will piggyback Otani.

(16:32):
That's according to Dave Roberts before today's game, and Yamamoto
will make his start on Sunday, which probably rules him
out for pitching in the All Star Game, but it'll
be a great experience for him to be their first
time name to a Major League Baseball All Star team.
Last year he was hurt at this time. And Clayton
Kershaw likely to pitch in the All Star Game now

(16:53):
since he's not going to pitch again in San Francisco.
So that's a great thing. As he was awarded the
legend pick by Commissioner Rob Manfred, he will be celebrated
in Atlanta, So that's a great thing for the Dodgers
in Kershaw during this All Star break. And speaking of Kershaw,
you know, I didn't give it a lot of kred,

(17:15):
but all of a sudden, I'm seeing it online, I'm
seeing it on MLB Network that everybody is so offended
that Clayton Kershaw did not know who Brewer's pitcher, Jacob
Mizerowski is. Do you know how many starts Jacob Mizerowski
has made in his career? Five? You can count him
on one hand. Five Does five make a career? Does

(17:37):
that make him Madison Bumgardner? So why is everybody in
particular people in Milwaukee and in that studio, that bubble
of a studio in Sekakis, New Jersey. So offended that
Clayton Kershaw, when asked about Jacob Mizerowski the day before
they faced off, did not know who he was, wasn't

(17:58):
really one hundred percent sure who he was. Why would
you be offended about that? Kirushaw is coming off his
three thousand strikeout milestone. Kershaw has been rehabbing his left
knee and his left foot all season long and juggling
being a great father of four young kids and worrying
about the Dodgers. Sorry, he can't give his full attention

(18:22):
to some pitcher in Milwaukee. I think we all know
now who Jacob Mizerowski is. But hopefully after the game yesterday,
Kershaw is saying these things appeased Misslerowski, the Brewer fans,
you know, those forty thousand and the three people at
MLB Network.

Speaker 10 (18:40):
Yeah, I don't know, huh. I mean that was that
was super impressive. Yeah, I mean that's that was unbelievable.
He's it was really special. I mean everything you know
obviously the velo, but he's got four pitches commands of
all and made it. I mean, that's I don't know

(19:00):
how you hit that. Honestly, that's that's just really tough.

Speaker 3 (19:03):
Oh okay, I hope that appeases everybody in Milwaukee that
Kershaw gave Mizerowski as Flowers. I mean, come on, are
you serious? You're gonna get offended and really stir up
some drama that really isn't there. I barely knew who
Jacob Mizerowski is. Okay, he's got to do it for
more than five games pitching for the Brewers eight six, six,

(19:25):
nine eighty seven, two five seventy is the phone number.
Let's go out to Michael and Bellflower. Were you as
offended as everybody in Milwaukee? Michael that Kershaw didn't know
who Jacob Mizerowski was.

Speaker 5 (19:37):
Yeah, these guys they don't need.

Speaker 3 (19:40):
What am I gonna do with these guys? Who is
Kareem Garcia? Who is Jacob Mizerowski?

Speaker 5 (19:47):
Who are these dudes?

Speaker 2 (19:49):
Hey?

Speaker 5 (19:50):
I'm calling because I'm kind of piggybacking a little bit
off of what you maybe alluded to in the clubhouse
that the Dodgers maybe should say Freddy from Freddy Like,
I'm looking at it thinking, I know that the All
Star Games in Atlanta and all that but if he
missed this series against the Giant three games, he would

(20:11):
miss that. If he didn't play in the All Star Game,
he would have a good stretch of time there to
maybe get right, get healthy for the second half. To me,
I don't really see the benefit if he is banged up,
and if it is something that a little bit of
time would help, why he just why the Dodgers is
either don't sit him down or he could just stop himself.
There's with this point of the season, this is where
eybody's supposed to try and get better for the second half.

Speaker 3 (20:32):
Hey, I'm a big advocate that Taoscar Hernandez should be
on the IL. Thankfully, he hasn't played in the last
four games. And you know, the right field in San
Francisco is a big right field, so I would even
be cool with Taoscar Hernandez going on the IL.

Speaker 8 (20:49):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (20:49):
I do you think that anything with Freddy has to
do with the game being in Atlanta? Why he was.

Speaker 3 (20:56):
Yeah, he wants to play there and he was voted
by the fans, so all of that plays into it,
no doubt. Thanks for the phone call, Michael, appreciate it.
Eight six six nine eight seven two five seventy is
the phone number. The Dodgers are swept in Milwaukee, three
to two, the final score in ten innings. I promised
a Blake Snell update as well. Look, the Dodger pitching

(21:17):
is getting healthier, it's now their position players that is
a little concerning with how many injuries and how many
guys are playing banged up. Blake Snell, if you're living
in the Ie, is going to be starting for Rancho
Cucamonga tomorrow. You want to get out there to see
snell Zilla. And then when it's the All Star break,
snell Zilla will have to go to Arizona next Tuesday

(21:39):
to start. And after that, once the All Star break
is over at the major league and minor league level,
more than likely snail Zilla will go out to Oklahoma City,
and I predict him to return during that long East
Coast road trip where the Dodgers go to Boston, Cincinnati,
and Tampa after their first homestand post All Star break,
Let's go out to Long Beach. David, you're on Dodgery Talk.

(22:01):
How you doing, David Good?

Speaker 2 (22:04):
How are you?

Speaker 3 (22:04):
Dave tremendous? I always love giving snail Zilla updates.

Speaker 2 (22:09):
Well, I'm glad to hear he's coming back. Yeah, one
thing I am going to promise you, I will I
will not mention Eric Gangie's name anymore, because you remembered
you did your Mount Rushmore and I had mentioned Eric Ganie,
so I didn't kind of tweet you a little bit.
So I will not mention Eric Gania.

Speaker 3 (22:25):
And it will shame on you for mentioning Eric Ganye
and not the all time Saves leader Kenley Janssen.

Speaker 2 (22:31):
Yeah, shame on me. Okay, I'll take I'll take that, David.
Now my question is Tanner Scott. I mean, I don't
know what's wrong with him. I mean, you know, last
couple of times he's pitched pretty well, but then you
know he starts pitching not so well. I mean, I
agree with you, the pitching is getting better. I'm really
hoping we get Blake trying it back real soon.

Speaker 3 (22:51):
I don't know what, you know, what the status he's
pitching at Oklahoma City today. He's pitching at Oklahoma City today. Okay, Yeah,
but I'm with you. Scott has been really ordinary. Even
when he does lockdown saves a lot of times he's
getting away with pitches that are getting too much of
the strike zone. So I'm with you. He's been very
average but still gets away with it because he's got

(23:14):
good stuff.

Speaker 2 (23:16):
Well, I hope for the you know, I hope as Dodger,
as true Dodger fans that you know, they don't get
down on the Dodgers, because I mean, they go through peaks,
they go through valleys. But you know, I just hope
they don't get down on themselves thinking, Okay, the season's over.
It's not over. No, and again, don't think you're the
best in the league and order the championship rings because
you may not win it. But I you know, I'm

(23:36):
a Dodger, I'm a Dodger fan, true blue. You know,
I believe Blue outdie Blue, you know, And I just
I just hope for the best for the rest of
the season.

Speaker 3 (23:44):
All right, Well, this happens in a long marathon season.
That's why one hundred and sixty two game seasons are respected,
and that's why it means something to get through the
marathon and then run the table of the sprint. In October,
Daniel Jewelers present the home run Forecast. Go to AM
five seventy LA sports dot com. Use the keyword home
run for your chance to win a fifty dollars Daniels

(24:07):
Jeweler's gift card predicting the number of home runs in
the very next game. Daniels Jewelers Own the Dream.

Speaker 4 (24:13):
It's tough to go around the horn with Josean log.

Speaker 3 (24:18):
All right, jose let's start with the player we're all
concerned about, and that's Freddie Freeman. We've never seen him
slump for this long. Do you believe that that right
ankle is giving him a hard time? What are you
seeing with Freddy?

Speaker 1 (24:31):
What I see is nothing with his upper body. Everything's
going on. That was a lower body. And you mentioned
the ankle and the surgery, and you know the landing
also your rotating ankle. It's hard. It's hard with the
guy with a big size. Freddy is a guy that
he does not have electic Freddie doesn't have a whole
lot of movement going up and down, but certainly because

(24:52):
of that, that base is so important to him. And
just missing even at third of that base, it's significant.
You can see the pass swings, you can see the approach.
You can see him lifting sometimes almost like not wanting
to go down and get a baseball, and he's missing
low pitches. But Freddie really does a good job down
on the zone in squaring low pitches to the middle

(25:12):
and the other way, and we're not seeing it. So
right now, the chasers are just a big indication. They
just feel good and all stars with something happening, you know,
his legs.

Speaker 3 (25:22):
The Dodgers today continued the trend that we saw in
the previous two games in Milwaukee, not getting hits with
runners in scoring position. That will happen during the course
of a season. But is it concerning that they struck
out thirty seven times in these three games.

Speaker 1 (25:39):
Of course it is. The approach has not been very clean,
has not been very crisp. You know you're gonna see velocity.
You get the scout and report from your coaches and
everything that you need in advance to go out there
and say, well, there's certain stabs that we got to
cut down on. You gotta cut your swing, you gotta
you know, there's a way of having hitters meetings in

(26:02):
a general sense, but also in a particular individual sense.
And if you do it too much on the group
sense to a lot of guys, it doesn't connect. And
sometimes it's just better to tell guys exactly how they're
going to be pitched, considering what type of picture, what
pict you're going to face, and what type of hitters
they are, and that's what I'm seeing. I've seen the

(26:24):
same approach from pretty much everybody, and not enough fight
to protect h to know what to do with, you know,
fastals on his own, which at a point became an
issue last season too, and they fixed itself. I have
every reason to believe they're going to get it done,
but need some adjustments gat done. And the main thing,
Dave is today the Dodgers didn't lose because of that.

(26:44):
The value is lost because the closer cannot get the
job done. And it's happening continually, And there's no doubt
in my mind that it's concerning. It's concerning inside. Maybe
it's not going to come out, but it's concerning we
you have a guy like that, you just cannot close
again when you're struggling offensively. Well, you know what, it's
not just so much like the bottom picking up the top.
It's the guys on the mound with minimal leverage going

(27:07):
out there and getting the job done. Is that is
exactly what this one. I know it hurts that club
was a lot here today.

Speaker 3 (27:13):
Yeah, no doubt. Nothing hurts more when you lose games
in the ninth and tenth innings, when you have a lead,
even if it's a one run lead, And look, Hosea.
I mentioned this to the previous caller. It's been explained
to me, it's been showed to me that Tanner Scott
is getting away with things, but certainly still is getting
too much of the plate, the fastballs, the sliders, getting

(27:34):
too much of the big part of the strike zone.
How do the Dodgers move forward with Tanner Scott if
he's not having the field the way he did last year.

Speaker 1 (27:44):
Like the double of the guys before, a guy removing
him from that particular situation in finding another option somehow,
and sometimes those options are not automatically painted for you,
but you have no other choice. He right now is
not a high leverage guy on what they signed for it.
He can be that guy because this stuff is so good.
But consider the slider he talked about the slider underballing again,

(28:05):
right the slider is been hit so hard it's not
really a putaway pitch. It's a sip. Right now, He's
rolling in there on a very inconsistent basis and were
hitting twenty three against that slider, the highest average against
any pitches that slider. And he just doesn't put in
good spots. But everything set up with a fast post.
It seems i mechanically he found it in a month. And
the big reason why the Dodgers won seventeen games in

(28:28):
June is because Tanner Scott was good. Yeah, they're finding
the other the other side, right, but then he's got
to be better in being the baseball and finishing it.
As Clayton Kershel says, rip it. You got to rip
that slider down on the zone because you're gonna get
away with us on certain teams, but not against teams
that are looking for it. Do their job, and also
cut down into swings. The Brewers throw over swing. They
put the ball play. They understand exactly what to do

(28:49):
in what situation. Tanner Scott found out very quickly. Again
here today.

Speaker 3 (28:54):
Jose Mote is joining us. After the Brewers sweep the
Dodgers three to two and ten innings is the final score.
All right. They got a day off tomorrow, they got
a cross country flight from the Midwest to the West coast.
Hopefully that helps them as they go down the stretch
here in the final three games because they're limping into
the All Star break. And I'm not talking about record wise, Jose,

(29:16):
I'm talking about so many guys banged up.

Speaker 1 (29:19):
Yes, forget the record. That's one thing that you do
was perspective where they're at, what they need to do better,
and how much engagement need to be. But here's a
good thing. We saw some good things from starting pitching
yesterday and today that that's very encouraging. And now you'll
be face to face with the team's right behind you,
so you know, the same urgency that showed when the
Giants caught him back in June fourteenth needs to be

(29:40):
shown by playing a cleaner game, different ballpark, very challenging.
You got to catch a baseball, got a play well,
run will which they did today, putting guys in motion.
But I think there's something about just the opponent face
of face you going to see now to say you're
not as good as us and just go out to
improve it on the field.

Speaker 3 (29:55):
All right, Jose, thanks for checking in. We'll talk to
you on Friday after the Dodgers and Giants open up
the final three games before the All Star Break. I'm
a going David all right, thank you Jose there. He
is part of the Spanish radio broadcast Jose Mota. The
Dodgers fall to the Brewers today in Milwaukee, three to
two in ten innings. The Dodgers did not have an

(30:16):
RBI bas hit today, as they got a basis loaded
walk from Shoe Aotani in the fifth inning and a
sacrifice fly by Mookie Betts in the seventh inning. And
they are swept in Milwaukee for the first time in
Dodger franchise history. And the Dodgers have lost six in
a row for the first time since twenty nineteen. But
like I said, you know, it's one thing if the

(30:38):
Dodgers were at full strength and everybody was feeling better
than average. But the Dodgers are banged up, limping into
the first half of the season or into the All
Star break without Taoscar Hernandez. He may or may not
play in the series in San Francisco. But the reality
is Taoscar, who came off the bench as a pinch
hitter today, has not looked like him ef. He got

(31:01):
off to a really good start and then all of
a sudden he went on the il with a left
groin injury, and ever since then he's a one ninety hitter.
So this is what I always remind you, and it's
been told to me so many times. Really good players
don't all of a sudden become bad players for no reason. Yeah, sure,

(31:23):
maybe a seven to ten game stretch, maybe fifteen if
they're healthy. But when a player is going as bad
as ta Oscar has for as long as he has,
when a player like Freddie Freeman is going as bad
as Freddie has for as long as he had, that's
not part of Freddy's resume. You go back and look

(31:43):
at his entire career. He has never struggled this long.
And I feel like we all take for granted that
this guy had off season right ankle surgery, probably still
has a bone bruise on that right ankle, which means
that it's probably sore every single day. And if he
makes the wrong move or he leaps for a throw

(32:05):
from Mooki Betts or Tommy Edman or Max Munsey, I'm
sure there's some pain in there, and that takes a toll.
So the All Star Break couldn't be coming at a
better time for the Dodgers. In particular, guys like Tommy Edmond,
Tay Oscar Hernandez, Freddie Freeman, and in more ways than one,
Mooki Betts. I mean, that's the guy I'm the most

(32:26):
concerned about. Mooki Betts does not have an injury that
I'm aware of or I've heard anybody even allude to.
Mooki Bets has just been playing from behind since the
beginning of the season, since he lost what fifteen eighteen
pounds when he lost all that weight with that illness
the day before the Dodgers left for Tokyo. He had

(32:47):
to come back to me. That's part of it. And look,
Mooky Betts just needs to remind himself that he's Mookie
freaking Bets and he just needs to reset. I would
personally say, get away from baseball. Don't even think about baseball,
don't even think about anything else. No Disneyland, no Chuck
e Cheese. Just be at the house, be by the pool,

(33:10):
and have your chef cook you whatever you want. Bring
in a chef. I'll even get some uber eats from
Mookie Bets if he needs it. From Boulevard Steak or Javier's.
They have a new location in downtown. I could get
Mookie Boulevard Steak. I could get them Javiers from downtown.
You don't have to move an inch, Mookie Bets. I
just need you to clear that mind, get that body, relax,

(33:33):
Jump in the sauna, jump in the chacuzzie. Just relax.
I'll take care of the rest. Eight six, six, nine
eighty seven, two five seventy is the phone number. Let's
go out to Las Vegas. Sergio, he're on Dodger Talk
with David vasse Hi. Sergio.

Speaker 11 (33:48):
Hey, David, good afternoon.

Speaker 1 (33:49):
I speaking to the conference for Bill at work.

Speaker 11 (33:51):
Just to toss you, but I totally agree with you
in regards to the performance of the top three, well
including the Tale. There has to be injuries because, as
you were saying, this doesn't happen. And I know us
Dodger fans, you listen to us every day. We're complaining,
we're stressed out, we're frustrated. It's just it's just because

(34:16):
you know, we're spoiled as Dodger fans. Since Guggenheim came
to town, took over the ownership, They've given us winning teams,
and I know that we are just you know, it's
never enough, and I know that we're all happy. We
won the World Series last year and that's awesome. But
with everything that's going on with went on with our pitching.
We're getting better with our pitchers are coming back, and

(34:37):
what's going on with the top three, we're still what
six games up, five and a half on the Giants
winning in San Francisco. The one thing, last thing before
I let you go, I wish the AF Star Game
was not in Atlanta, so Freddie can just go back.

Speaker 1 (34:49):
To La and relax.

Speaker 2 (34:51):
But you know he's gonna want to go back to
Atlanta and to be celebrated as he should. He's an
All Star, but.

Speaker 3 (34:57):
Not like he has to play all nine innings. He
doesn't have to play all nine innings. Just get them
a couple of at bats, get them that ovation and
get them off the field.

Speaker 11 (35:06):
Absolutely, just maybe one, one, two innings. If he doesn't
get that second a bat, they'll they'll they'll cheer him
as this hometown will you know his previous hometown, Well,
his hometowns don't catch.

Speaker 3 (35:17):
Hey, surgery. You know who the manager is too, It's
Dave Roberts. Don't think Dave Roberts is going to let
Freddie compromise himself for the bigger goal of the Dodgers.
So that also is working in the Dodgers favor that
Dave Roberts is the manager of the National League.

Speaker 11 (35:34):
Absolutely, thank you for trying to Thomas down and come
off the led with our team. But we're gonna be okay.

Speaker 2 (35:39):
I think.

Speaker 3 (35:39):
Oh yeah, I think so, SERGEI. I think you have
a pretty good team. Thanks for the phone call. Yeah,
I would say you still have a pretty good team. Look,
other teams don't have an All Star, a former MVP
thirty home run home run Derby champion on their team.
I think you can make do. Before the game today
on Sports net LA, they were showing the highlights of

(35:59):
the eighty eight Dodgers. I mean that team had a
lot less talent than this Dodger team has, this lineup
today had, and they beat the Mighty Mats who won
one hundred games, the A's who have won over one
hundred games. So you got it. You're telling me that
Dodgers can't put it together with Tommy Edmond and Miguel Rojas.
Give me a break. Let's go out to Hawthorne. Robert.

(36:20):
You're on Dodger Talk. How you doing, Robert?

Speaker 2 (36:23):
Yes, thank god.

Speaker 12 (36:24):
I was able to get in. So I've think at
your fans for fifty plus years, a long time, Willie
Crawt or Willie Davis back, Yeah, you're a og.

Speaker 11 (36:33):
You know what?

Speaker 12 (36:34):
I noticed that the Dodgers I do a lot of
stuff with. Also stats, I've never liked that old Tommy
Betts the leadoff, and I know they won as many
at bats, but when you look at his numbers, I
thirty one and fifty eight pages has seventy and fifty
eight RBIs what stands out to me. Also you're talking
about Freeman, is that he has struck out a lot,

(36:54):
Like this time he's start up seventy seven times with
only thirty two walks.

Speaker 3 (36:58):
He doesn't do that. And what do you think you
think you think all of a sudden Freddie Freeman stinks
after he was leading Major League Baseball and batting average
and now it is hitting two ninety nine. Do you
think all of a sudden, Freddie Freeman forgot to hit?

Speaker 12 (37:13):
No, he's hurt.

Speaker 2 (37:14):
Exactly One thing I want to mention Freddy out the
area is hurry up.

Speaker 3 (37:20):
Petros is foaming at the mouth to get on the
on the radio.

Speaker 12 (37:24):
Blake Snell, Scott Sasaki, Conforto Kim. That's like two hundred
and eighty million dollars.

Speaker 1 (37:31):
What is the return, Ben, I'll.

Speaker 3 (37:33):
Let you know in October. Thanks for the phone call, Robert,
appreciate it. By the way, Sazaki and Kim are minimal salaries,
so that was a low risk, high reward situations. But
we'll see what happens moving forward. All right, that'll do
it for us on Dodger Talk today. You like that.
That's like my dismissive, like, we'll see what happens moving
forward means I don't have the answer right now.

Speaker 2 (37:55):
Uh.

Speaker 3 (37:56):
Dodger Talk off day. Addition tomorrow or all Hersheiser the
Bull will join us tomorrow and on Friday, the Dodgers
will open up a three game series at Oracle Park,
first time the Dodgers will be by the Bay this season.
Dustin May making his final start before the All Star Break.
He's five and five with an ERA of four p
fifty two. Hopefully he throws more of his four seemers

(38:18):
like he did in his last start where he got
into the eighth inning. He's going up against the Giants'
best Logan Webb, who in nine starts at Oracle Park
this season four and one with an ERA of one
fifty two. Morongo Casino. Dodgers on Deck begins at six
o'clock on Friday. First pitch in San Francisco at seven
point fifteen. Thanks to Colin ye in our Burbank Studios.

(38:41):
Thanks to Dwayne McDonald in Milwaukee. Thanks to you for
listening in case you missed any of the show or
our pregame conversation with get ready for the name drop
Hall of Famer Randy Johnson. You can find it on
the iHeartRadio app. Coming up next Petros and the great
Don McClay, they'll take you to seven o'clock right here

(39:02):
on AM five to seventy LA Sports once again. The
final score in Milwaukee, the Brewers defeat the Dodgers in
ten innings, three to two. Have a great rest of
the year. Wednesday, Petros and d mac are next see
