Speaker 1 (00:01):
One thing about this gene is the invisible and tangibles
that they have.

Speaker 2 (00:07):
This team is really becoming a family.

Speaker 3 (00:09):
Let's not play one on too.

Speaker 1 (00:10):
Let's wind it.

Speaker 4 (00:11):
I love writing me these guys after the show. So
just thank you, give me are.

Speaker 5 (00:15):
Your attention, your fire and not a pisson.

Speaker 6 (00:17):
This is world champion, Dodgers, world champion.

Speaker 7 (00:21):
Thing it for a small soft time. They get a
people what they want to.

Speaker 8 (00:24):
Die to in a row two is special.

Speaker 5 (00:26):
I'm like, yeah, it's not a headache.

Speaker 7 (00:28):
One of a con. This ball's gone.

Speaker 6 (00:31):
You ready to go Hell, time to the grab your
phone to get in on the show called eight six
six nine eighty seven two five seven.

Speaker 7 (00:40):
And go to the show.

Speaker 6 (00:41):
And now your host of Dodger Talk, David Basse.

Speaker 9 (00:46):
We are live at Dodgers Stadium after the Dodgers respond
to the challenge and sweep the Padres in a huge
series beating them today. Five to four, eight six six
nine eight seven two five seventy is the phone number,
David vas say with you until five point thirty this afternoon.

Speaker 7 (01:07):
We will get to your phone calls.

Speaker 9 (01:09):
We will head downstairs in a moment to hear from
Mooki Betts, who was the late inning hero today with
a go ahead home run in the eighth inning after
the Padres chipped away and tied the score in the
top of the eighth inning at four. Moki leading off
the bottom of the eighth inning allowed Roberts Suarez to

(01:29):
supply all the power he needed, a ninety seven fastball,
two to zero fastball right down the heart of the plate.
Muki did what we have seen Muki do in his career,
pull the ball for power and look uh. Suarez supplied
the power and Muki just hited a long way and
it was just enough for the Dodgers to get the

(01:50):
win five to four over the Padres and now have a.

Speaker 7 (01:55):
Two game lead in the NLST.

Speaker 9 (01:58):
I know we always think about from the Dodgers perspective,
but think about the Padres. How are they feeling going
back to San Diego right now? They were riding high.
They eliminated a nine game lead, They had a five
game winning streak coming into Friday night. The Dodgers had
lost four in a row, just got swept in Anaheim.

(02:20):
They thought they had the Dodgers right where they wanted them.

Speaker 7 (02:24):
But you know what happened.

Speaker 9 (02:26):
The Dodgers did Dodger things to the Padres, and they
had beaten San Diego now eight out of ten times.
Don't think mental warfare has something to do when these
two teams.

Speaker 7 (02:40):
Play each other.

Speaker 9 (02:42):
The Dodgers are the even keel team, while that team
on the other side, the first base dugout is so
emotional and their manager manages emotionally whenever they play the Dodgers.
We had heard how great the Padres were playing, well,
we didn't see that certainly in the first two games
of the series. I felt like the Dodgers kind of

(03:03):
gave this one away, but they were luckily rescued by
Mooki's heroics in the eighth inning. But you gotta imagine
there's a lot of head games going on with the
Dodgers beating the Padres eight out of ten times, not
to mention the Padres one win away from eliminating the

(03:23):
Dodgers and last year's NLDS. Instead, it was the Dodgers
that came back to beat the Padres and the offense.
The San Diego offense was held hitless in their last
what twenty six at bats thirty four at bats of
that series. So, I mean just feels like the Dodgers
have the mental ledge no matter how well the Padres

(03:45):
are playing. And look what it came down to for
the Dodgers to win this series is their strength now
and that's their starting pitching. Last year in the postseason,
it was their bullpen this year. If the Dodgers are
going to go deep into the postseason, their starters are
not only going to have to pitch well, they're gonna

(04:06):
have to pitch deep into games. And I was a
little surprised that Dave Roberts took Tyler Glassnell out of
the game after five innings and ninety one pitches, considering
how thin that bullpen is right now. You're asking those
group of relievers that have been a little shaky lately
to pitch four innings and preserve a three run lead. Well,

(04:31):
it didn't work out. And Dave Roberts has said many
times before that they're only going as far as his starters,
and he's going to push those starters deeper into games.

Speaker 7 (04:44):
He did it with Blake Snell last night.

Speaker 9 (04:46):
It looked like Snell may have only gone five innings
last night, but he asked Nell to go back out
there for the sixth inning. And I loved that Dave
Roberts pushed Nell out there for the sixth inning. I
would have loved to have seen Dave Roberts push glass
Now a sixth inning today as well. But we don't
know what glass Now was feeling. We don't know what

(05:08):
glass Now was saying. But the one thing we knew
is that the Dodgers could have used one more inning
from glass Now, who had eight strikeouts and one walk
in five innings today. But that wasn't meant to be.
The Padres chipped away tied the game. But Mookie Bets,
in my opinion, his home run to lead off the

(05:28):
eighth inning for a go ahead home run. That was
his biggest home run of the season since his walkoff
home run against the Tigers on the first homestand of
the year. That's how long it's been. And put this
into context as well. I mentioned this during the Clubhouse Show.
Mookie Betts has three home runs already in the month

(05:50):
of August. In June and July, Mooki had a combined
three home runs in those two months together. The Dodgers
need Mookie Betts. I mean, he's still one of the
best players in baseball. He's got to show out now
the rest of the way and be part of the
Big three again of Otani, Freeman, and Bets. Let's head

(06:10):
downstairs right now to the Dodger Clubhouse to hear from
today's hero, Mookie Bets.

Speaker 10 (06:16):
Like you've been talking about trying to have that mindset
of just doing something that helps the team. Like how
much clarity does that give you when you're coming up
to bat in the eighth they're just trying to look
to do something productive.

Speaker 11 (06:27):
Gives me a lot, but you know, kind of every
beat is the same at this point.

Speaker 5 (06:30):
You know, just try and do something productive.

Speaker 11 (06:33):
So it definitely definitely helps not carry burdens from previous
previous ie Bets.

Speaker 8 (06:39):
That's the obvious.

Speaker 10 (06:40):
But how nice it feel kind of connect on that
ball like that and having a moment like that.

Speaker 5 (06:44):
They feel good, Fuck good, And it's been a long time,
but you know, kind of is what it is. It's
it's down and over with now.

Speaker 11 (06:51):
And try to focus on the finishing the season strong
because this is a tight race.

Speaker 10 (06:55):
You feel a lot closer some me yourself lately and
especially at the plate.

Speaker 5 (07:00):
Yeah, I mean I feel pretty normal now. You know,
it's just a matter of uh, just.

Speaker 11 (07:04):
Continuing to to put together good at bats. But I
feel pretty normal.

Speaker 12 (07:07):
With your emotions as you cross home played, crowdspire fired up,
you kind of salute, What's what's got in your mind?

Speaker 8 (07:13):
Did I talk?

Speaker 13 (07:14):
Uh?

Speaker 5 (07:14):
Just finally, you know, finally did something something good for
the boys. I mean that's with the bat.

Speaker 11 (07:19):
I mean, you know, I feel like I've done a
decent job with the glove, but uh, with the bat,
I haven't really been able to help much.

Speaker 5 (07:25):
So it's just uh the good good to help 'em.

Speaker 14 (07:27):
The story taking serious against the San Diego, like to
capture or sweep in that passion, Like what can that
sort of do for you guys going forward to those Uh?

Speaker 5 (07:35):
Nothing? I think we just have to focus on Colorado tomorrow.

Speaker 11 (07:40):
Go play uh, go play good baseball there and then
uh nobode will see San Diego again, So we can't
get caught up in uh in the emotions.

Speaker 10 (07:48):
Would you get up two o in the count? Like,
can you start looking to be a little bit more
aggressive there? Kind of doesn't it's the approach change at all.

Speaker 5 (07:55):
I mean not really, I mean just in the two
oh count.

Speaker 11 (07:57):
You know, obviously anybody's gonna look to be aggressive of
that that in that kind of count.

Speaker 5 (08:03):
So I mean, it's not any more aggressive than anything normal.

Speaker 10 (08:06):
What was the difference this week? You guys talked about
just needing to play better baseball is just kind of
what it felt like in all phases, just being kind
of sharper and more consistent, able to deliver when you needed.

Speaker 11 (08:17):
Yeah, I think so we are at hold leeds and
tackle on runs late. So we just played played a
good brand of baseball this weekend. But again it's a
We've still got a long way to.

Speaker 7 (08:30):
Goo, no doubt about it.

Speaker 9 (08:32):
Mookie Beds and the Dodgers are not going to get
caught up in the emotion game.

Speaker 7 (08:37):
That's that's my job.

Speaker 9 (08:38):
Everybody knows that down there that this guy gets caught
up in the emotions. But we all do and we're
allowed to. But the players in that clubhouse. What has
made the identity of the Dodgers so good over the
course of the last ten years is that they don't ride.

Speaker 7 (08:54):
The emotional roller coaster. The Padres seem to ride the
emotional roller coaster.

Speaker 9 (09:00):
And what has taken place in the past win or
lose series over the course of the last five seasons,
after the Padres played the Dodgers. They seem to let
down in the series following playing the Dodgers, so we'll
see whether or not that takes place against the Giants.
Eight six six, seven two five seventy is the phone number.

(09:20):
Dodgers beat the Padres five to four and sweep the
three game series. Let's go out to lou Lou You're
on Dodger Talk Live from the stadium.

Speaker 7 (09:29):
How you doing, Lou.

Speaker 15 (09:32):
Hey, Dave, great to talk to you again. Had to
be here for the weekend for the series and you
know the theme from you the last week is of
course there is no tomorrow and can you imagine coming
into the series down to one, we sweep and now
we're up to Dashar and when with the lights of

(09:52):
Brighters the starter show up Freeman, Mookie and Vescia today
is so great to him come back be He's has
some challenges, so appreciate all you guys to go out
there for is TV and just a great victory.

Speaker 7 (10:08):
Thank you for the phone call. Loo.

Speaker 9 (10:09):
A fun series and in August. It's hard sometimes to
get up for games and for series, but it felt
like Clayton Kershaw, Let's not forget him set the tone
for this series. He was the right guy at the
right time for this series. The Dodgers. Having Kershaw pitching
Game one of this series just heightened the focus of everybody.

(10:32):
That's what he does every start since I've been around
him every day since twenty twelve.

Speaker 7 (10:38):
That's what he does on start day.

Speaker 9 (10:40):
Everybody sees how much work he puts in before his starts,
after his starts, the day of starts.

Speaker 7 (10:47):
They see what he puts his body through.

Speaker 9 (10:49):
You know, Kershaw's Body's not feeling great when he's out
there at this stage. I think everybody understands that in
the clubhouse, So you raise your heightened focus, or you
you heighten your focus when you played behind Kershaw. Dave
Roberts said as much, and don't downplay that. Kershaw set
the tone for this series, and the Dodgers followed their leader.

(11:10):
Eight six six, nine, seven, two five seventy is the
phone number. Let's go out to rialto Paul. You're on
Dodger Talk with David vasse Hi.

Speaker 12 (11:19):
Paul, Hey, Jay, thanks for taking my car.

Speaker 3 (11:21):
How you doing.

Speaker 9 (11:23):
I'm doing good, happier now that the Dodgers delivered and
played like there is no tomorrow, right.

Speaker 12 (11:29):
Yeah, I wanted to talk about that. I feel like
what the Dodgers showed me is that we've really got
nothing to worry about. I feel like this is who
they're gonna be in the post. They're gonna step up
when they absolutely need to. I kind of saw that too,
Like when the Blue Jays came in, we pretty much
took care of them the first two games. Yeah, we
blew the third one, and I think if we don't
play anything less than perfect, our expectations are.

Speaker 2 (11:52):
Through the roof.

Speaker 12 (11:52):
So we're always disappointed sometimes. But I just feel like
that's who they're gonna be. They're gonna step up, they're
gonna bring it in all reality, we've been in first
this entire year. It's just about so every game isn't
like a must win because we're just.

Speaker 4 (12:07):
Always up there.

Speaker 12 (12:07):
Everyone's gunning for us, so we're always playing with our
backs against the wall, so to speak, because everybody wants
our title, they want to beat the Dodgers. But I
feel like this series showed us everything we needs to
know for the post.

Speaker 9 (12:19):
All right, Paul, thank you for the phone call. Yes,
it feels like the Dodgers reminded the Padres and everybody
else that they are still a really good team even
at one hundred percent health. They don't have Tanner Scott,
they don't have Kirby Yates, they don't have Michael Kopek.
And remember they don't have Max Munsey. They're not going

(12:39):
to have Max Munsey for at least a few more
weeks because of the strain right Obleaku. So the Dodgers
sweep the Padres without those players and without Max Munsey.
That was huge as well. Remember how you were feeling
coming into this series. The Dodgers losers of four in
a row, just got swept in Anaheim, and oh no,

(13:01):
Max Munsey out for weeks and we don't know if
he's coming back before the end of the regular season.
Things were not feeling great before Friday night. But that's
why I go back to Kershaw. Kershaw set the tone
for that game, and then the following day you feel
like you have to meet that standard because he met it.

Speaker 7 (13:21):
You met it as a group that night, So let's
do it again.

Speaker 9 (13:24):
And Blake Snell set the tone and Will Smith did
as well.

Speaker 7 (13:28):
And how about Will Smith?

Speaker 9 (13:30):
I mentioned this in Anaheim, this was not a series
for Dalton rushing. Will Smith needed to play all three games,
and he did so. Kudos to Dave Roberts for setting
the tone by having Will Smith play three straight games
for the first time since June. Him playing three straight
calendar days has only happened twice since June. That says

(13:54):
a lot that he played all three games. Will Smith
and Dalton Rushing rightfully, so will split the four games
in Denver, and then I fully expect Will Smith to
play all three games again in San Diego. Eight six
six seven two five seventy is the phone number. Dodgers
beat the Padres five to four. Let's go out to Monrovia. Pedro.

Speaker 7 (14:15):
You're on Dodger Talk with David vasse Hi.

Speaker 1 (14:17):
Pedro, what's up DV.

Speaker 7 (14:19):
How you doing feeling good today? Pedro?

Speaker 8 (14:23):
Oh yeah, we.

Speaker 14 (14:24):
All are feeling good today. Kersha just dominated that was
That was nice to see and we pretty much told
the Padgers who their daddy is, right m Yeah they did. Yeah,
that was so nice and it's gonna be nice next
weekend too, because we're gonna put them in their place.

Speaker 7 (14:42):
You're gonna show up showing up in San Diego next weekend.

Speaker 1 (14:46):
Pedro, No, I can't, but I was there yesterday.

Speaker 2 (14:50):
Was there last night.

Speaker 7 (14:51):
That was a nice game, all right, Pedro, thank you
for the phone call.

Speaker 9 (14:55):
Eight six six seven two five seventy is the phone number.
We're gonna take a time out here on Dodger Talk.
We have three lines open at eight six six nine
eighty seven two five seventy. When we continue, you'll hear
from Tyler Glass. Now you'll hear from Blake Trenton. So
many of you want team meetings, Well, the bullpen had

(15:15):
a team meeting on the field before the start of
this series. You heard from Freddie Freeman on last night's
show about the hitters meetings.

Speaker 7 (15:22):
So you love meetings, you want meetings.

Speaker 9 (15:25):
We got meetings talk coming up next after the Dodgers
sweep the Padres five to four on a five to
seventy LA Sports. There is no tomorrow.

Speaker 6 (15:43):
Dodger Talk is available on AM five seventy LA sports
dot com, hand on the iHeartRadio app. Back to more
Dodger Talk with Dodger insider David Vasse.

Speaker 7 (15:56):
The pitch and pretty much wings. I have the right
center fielding.

Speaker 3 (16:01):
Date, this pap back, this pop home run, Freddie Freeman
in a three run shot and a Dodgers strike first
three nothing on the fifteenth home run of this season
for Freddy Freeven, an absolute no doubt into the pavilion.

Speaker 7 (16:18):
And right center field, and I can't him take it anymore.
The Dodgers are.

Speaker 9 (16:27):
In the Padres head head games being played here at
Dodgers Stadium, as the Dodgers sweep the Padres with a
five to four win. The Dodgers scored four runs in
the first inning off of U Darvish. That three run
home run by Freddie Freeman the big blow as the
Dodgers go on to beat San Diego again five to

(16:49):
four and now have a two game lead in the
NL West. Daniel Stewlers presents the home run forecast. Go
to AM five to seventy LA sports dot com use
the keyword home run for your chance to win a
fifty dollars Daniels Jeweler's gift card predicting the number of
home runs in the very next game. Daniels Jewelers owned

(17:09):
the dream by the way, it was Player's Weekend, so
the players could paint anything on their bat. Freddie Freeman
chose to go with his three boys each night of
this series.

Speaker 7 (17:20):
During players Weekend, he wrote one of.

Speaker 9 (17:22):
His kids' names on each bat and Charlie Freeman, his oldest, suggested, Hey, Dad,
why don't you go youngest to oldest start on Friday
night and then ed end with me on Sunday the oldest.
So the game rewarded the unselfishness of young Charlie Freeman,
as Charlie was the name on the bat today that

(17:44):
Freddie Freeman hit his three run home runs. So Papa
made Charlie proud today. Eight six, six, nine, seven, two
five seventy is the phone number. We'll get back to
your calls in a moment. But let's head downstairs right
now to hear from today's starting pitcher Glass Now, who
went five innings but could have been pushed one more inning.

(18:05):
Let's find out. Let's go downstairs to the clubhouse to
hear from Glass Now on sports and at LA.

Speaker 16 (18:12):
Yeah, I think early on it felt good, especially that
first inning. I think I just tinkered with the slider
a little bit, had it a lot earlier today. It
was kind of the pitch I relied on and then
just try to carry it on through the rest of.

Speaker 10 (18:22):
The game a long less Do you kind of look
at that as something that was maybe just they got
a good swing, or.

Speaker 8 (18:28):
I think especially that last one.

Speaker 16 (18:30):
I think it was a kind of a bad four
seamp and then I think guys are already looking up
and I kind of just threw it right like middle
in not like a ton of exit villa. But I
just think, like day games and stuff, you kind of
have to be a little bit more like I don't know,
I think I could have been a little bit more
aggressive there, but.

Speaker 8 (18:45):
Yeah, he put a good swing.

Speaker 10 (18:46):
On it, so effective, especially early.

Speaker 8 (18:49):
I changed the grip up a little bit.

Speaker 16 (18:52):
I just was getting around it really bad, and the
villa was lower today. But I think like I just
felt a little bit more behind it, even though it
was probably more on the side.

Speaker 8 (19:00):
It was just maybe like a cue thing.

Speaker 16 (19:02):
So the slide grip I usually had wasn't feeling great,
so I just tinkered with it a little bit and
it felt a lot better.

Speaker 8 (19:06):
And raising the arms thing.

Speaker 10 (19:08):
Where did that come from?

Speaker 8 (19:09):
I've been doing that for a while. I've been kind
of mixing in the last few games. I don't know.
It just feels good. This weekend has playoff lives, especially today.
How good is it to do what you guys finished?

Speaker 16 (19:21):
It's great social to come in here against San Diego
and do what we did get it going.

Speaker 8 (19:25):
It was an awesome three game series.

Speaker 10 (19:27):
Especially just with the entry last year. Like to be
in these kind of games and pitching well on them, Like,
how much does that mean to you?

Speaker 8 (19:33):
That's awesome.

Speaker 16 (19:34):
That does suck to just kind of sit in the
sidelines and not watch. So I'm I'm happy that I
can actually participate and help.

Speaker 9 (19:42):
All Right, there's Tyler Glass now on sports at LA
And yeah, today was the first day that it stood
out to us that Tyler Glass, now exclusively out of
the stretch, was channeling his inner Clayton Cruise Shaw as
he brought both hands over his head and then brought
it down to set. He was doing it consistently. You

(20:03):
heard him say right there that he's done it in
and out of starts, But that's the first time we
have seen him do it every single pitch. And he
actually was called for a bock early in the game
because he didn't come to a complete set. That was
in the first inning after Louisa Rise doubled, and that's
when we really notice, Hey, what's going on here. We

(20:24):
haven't seen this, and I guess maybe he's tried it
in and out of starts. But today was the first
day that it really stood out to all of us
that he was doing it consistently. And you know, I
don't see any reason why he couldn't be pushed out
for the sixth inning unless he conveyed that to Dave Roberts.
Eight six six nine seven two five seventy is the

(20:45):
phone number. Let's go out to Louise in North Carolina.
You're on Dodger Talk with David Vassy.

Speaker 7 (20:52):
Hi, Louise, Hey, DV.

Speaker 2 (20:54):
How you doing.

Speaker 7 (20:56):
There is no tomorrow, Louise.

Speaker 1 (20:58):
No, no, there is no tomorrow. Hey. So first time caller,
a longtime listener.

Speaker 2 (21:03):
You know, in the words of the great Kobe.

Speaker 1 (21:05):
Bryant, the job not finished. We should have a long,
long season ago. We have next week to go, but
we played like there is no tomorrow.

Speaker 8 (21:14):
You're right, DV.

Speaker 7 (21:15):
Hey, I like that, Louise. That's right. Job not finish.

Speaker 9 (21:18):
A lot more season to go, And the season did
not end today as much as everybody would have liked
it to end today. There's still a lot more season
to go, including three more games against the Padres next
weekend in San Diego. Thanks for the phone call, Luis.
Let's go out to the City of Industry. Don You're

(21:38):
on Dodger Talk.

Speaker 7 (21:39):
How you doing, Don DV?

Speaker 1 (21:42):
I am great. I think after this call, I'm going
to get up on the roof and do a victory dance. Man,
I'm trying not to break my neck. Man, I am
just so happy. I mean to bounce back like this
from you know, getting our face pushed into the dirt
by the lowly Angels and then come back and beat
our toughest opponent in the division, pesky stinking pirates, not pirates, Pottery's.

(22:03):
I got my teas mixed up.

Speaker 15 (22:05):
But man, oh man.

Speaker 1 (22:06):
This just felt so good because everybody just stayed cool,
did their job. Everybody did their part, and we finally
put it together, didn't we, Dave. You know, it was
like it wasn't anymore of this, the hittings there, but
the pitching's now that is that. You know. We finally
did it. And I was so mad today. I looked
in the La Times and all we had all these letters.
It must have been written after we lost to the
Angels and oh, woe is me. Dodgers are finished. They

(22:28):
were ripping everybody. They even said something about, well look
who's leading them? I go, what does that mean the
front office ownership, Dave Roberts, are you kidding me?

Speaker 17 (22:38):
So?

Speaker 1 (22:38):
Ha ha ha. Those of little faith, you know, you know,
these fair weather fans, you know, hope you jump back
on the bandwagon and don't hurt yourself. But let's just
stay steady, steady as we go, and as you say,
there's no tomorrow we have. Napoleon once said I may
how is there when he said it? He said I
may lose a minute. No, no, he said I may lose

(22:59):
a battle, but I'll never lose a minute. Got it out, yeah,
And so that's got to be us now. And now
it's we came out of hibernation. The bear is out.

Speaker 7 (23:07):
So don't okay, we got it.

Speaker 9 (23:08):
A lot of analogies there, don Thank you, Why don't
I stop you before it gets really out of hand?

Speaker 7 (23:13):
Thank you for the phone call.

Speaker 9 (23:14):
Eight six six nine eight seven two five seventy is
the phone number. The Dodgers beat the Padres today five
to four, and I kind of feel like today was
maybe a tick behind the first two games.

Speaker 7 (23:28):
Of this series.

Speaker 9 (23:28):
I thought the Dodgers played really well the first two
games of this series, but today it felt like they
were in danger of letting this one slip away because
of the little things. I thought today was a rough
day for Taoscar Hernandez in right field. If you've listened
to this show since the beginning of last year, and
I think.

Speaker 7 (23:48):
All of you agree.

Speaker 9 (23:49):
We all love Taoscar Hernandez. He has quickly become a
fan favorite for everything he did last year and just
his spirit in that dugout, But right has been a
real challenge for him this year, and that's just the
way things were aligned. With Mookie Betts wanting to play shortstop,
Taoscar Hernandez has been the right fielder, and in the

(24:11):
fifth inning there was a ball that he probably should
have caught from a rise that was a ninety percent
catch probability. The o'hearneflair and the sixth inning where he
didn't get to that one either, that.

Speaker 7 (24:25):
Was troublesome as well.

Speaker 9 (24:27):
And then many of you have pointed out on social media,
we observed it as it was happening bottom of the
sixth inning, two outs, he wasn't running hard out of
the box and it was botched by Jackson Merrill in
center field, and ta Oscar was standing at first base
instead of second base, and that may have been the
difference in the game if the Dodgers lost this game

(24:50):
because Andy pa has followed with a single and instead
of going first to third, ta Oscar Hernandez very well
may have scored from second base on that single. So
hopefully the Dodgers and Taioscar Hernandez look at that film
and say, what's going on here? But right field's a challenge.

(25:11):
He was great in left field last year. I think
we all agree that if the Dodgers could have their
perfect world, he'd be in left field, if you're being honest.
But they signed Michael Conforto. So Dave Roberts is trying
to piece it together late in games with the lead.
But you can't take Taoscar Hernandez out too early because
you need his bat. So those were the little things

(25:33):
that concerned me. Taking Tyler Glass Now out after five innings,
I thought, very well, what's wrong with one hundred pitches?
I mean, these guys are pitching once a week? Have
you forgotten that part of it too? With the off
days the last three weeks and with Otani and Yamamoto
the Dodger pitchers, Glass now Kershaw, Snell, they've pitched once

(25:55):
a week. You're telling me this guy can't go out
for one hundred, one hundred and five pitches. What's ninety pitches?
Is that a new magic number? Eight six six nine
eight seven two five seventy is the phone number. Let's
go out to Buena Park. Lucas, you're on Dodger Talk
with David Vase.

Speaker 7 (26:12):
Hi, Lucas, what's up, Davy?

Speaker 16 (26:14):
How you doing today?

Speaker 17 (26:15):
After the wins?

Speaker 7 (26:16):
Still got the edge, Lucas, can't lose the edge?

Speaker 17 (26:20):
Never that, So Davy, today, I wanted to talk about
not more of the pros that came out of today.

Speaker 2 (26:26):
Still looking at.

Speaker 17 (26:27):
The things I need to be kind of worked on,
I think, and a big one I see is the bullpen.

Speaker 8 (26:33):
So what do you.

Speaker 2 (26:34):
Think there's a possibility of Brussard showing up this year
or possibly even a Joe Kelly.

Speaker 9 (26:41):
Joe Kelly is not showing up, Lucas, That's not going
to happen.

Speaker 7 (26:45):
Graderol.

Speaker 9 (26:46):
He posted on his Instagram two days ago that he
was throwing off the mound. If he comes back, it'll
be late September. But right now the focus is on
getting Copek back, getting Kirby HS back, and getting ten
Ors got back those are the three guys you should
be thinking of. Very very true.

Speaker 17 (27:05):
Those are the dominant arms that are on the team now.
I was just sticking more of a sense of arms
that we did have then that word dominant for our
bullpen back in twenty twenty four. But okay, we got
to deal with the guys we got. Now we should
be we should we should still be solid enough pull
through all the.

Speaker 2 (27:25):
Way to the end.

Speaker 9 (27:26):
All right, Lucas, thank you for the phone call. Appreciate it. Look,
I actually text Joe Kelly today a picture of the
Mariachi Joe Murrol on the third base reserve side, and
he appreciated that text. Look, Joe Kelly is throwing on
the side. I don't know where it's at, but that's
a long shot. I mean, the Dodgers are never gonna

(27:48):
shut the door on anybody if they can prove that
they can help. But come on, Joe Kelly hasn't pitched
all year. All of a sudden, you're gonna ask him
to come from Rancho Kucamonga Park wherever he's throwing, to
come into major League games and pitch meaningful innings.

Speaker 7 (28:05):
That's a lot to ask. As far as the bullpen goes.

Speaker 9 (28:09):
Like I said, Kirby Yates and Tanner Scott they're going
out on a rehab assignment on Tuesday. That's encouraging. Kopek
is already on a rehab assignment. That's encouraging. So they
need those three guys to come back healthy and pitch
the way that they expected them to pitch at the
beginning of the season. And like I said, there's been
so many phone calls over the course of the last

(28:32):
few weeks about team meetings, slamming the doors, somebody firing,
somebody up. Well, Freddie Freeman talked about the hitters meetings.
Have they changed up the dynamics of that? And yesterday
I talked to Blake Trinon on his babblehead day and
the first day of this series, before the relievers started
getting into their warm ups pregame, we all saw the

(28:54):
relievers in a circle. Bullpen coach Josh Bard was out there,
but Blake Trinen seen to be leading that meeting, and
I asked Blake what that was all about.

Speaker 18 (29:04):
It's no different than like hitters meetings or you know,
starters having meetings with their catchers.

Speaker 8 (29:09):
You know, like we're a.

Speaker 18 (29:09):
Unit down there, and it's like we're all one we're
all one team obviously, but within our team we have,
you know, pockets of talent, you know, us being relievers
or we've got accountability and and we try to challenge
each other and we do it in a constructive way
with love, and we all understand that, like we're trying
to be a better version of ourselves. As the league
adapts to us, we have to adapt. And as we uh,

(29:32):
you know, have shortcomings and our performances, you know, we
we lift each other up and challenge each other be better.
And it's no different than anywhere else in the game.
So yeah, sorry, I didn't really understand what you're saying
at first, but you know, sometimes throughout the year, you know,
we just sit and bring up some good points and
then and try to get better from him.

Speaker 9 (29:48):
Blake Tryon is our guest in front of first pitch,
it says Bobblehead Night.

Speaker 7 (29:52):
He's got a big smile.

Speaker 9 (29:53):
Family first, his family's out here going to celebrate Blake
try and Bobblehead Night together. Now, the big guy, Clayton
Kershaw just walked by in last night. He said after
the win, it's still August, but for people like David
Bass say, I have the mantra now there is no tomorrow.
Does there have to be a sense of urgency, maybe

(30:14):
being a little uncomfortable even though you guys have been
through so much.

Speaker 18 (30:18):
No, I don't I think urgency can I mean push
you one way or the other.

Speaker 8 (30:24):
And there's really no need.

Speaker 18 (30:26):
I mean, we're a team that's been here since I've
been here, a team's been in the run for.

Speaker 8 (30:31):
A World Series for the last This will be the
sixth year.

Speaker 18 (30:34):
And it's not like it's new for us that we
have to press to get somewhere. It's just take care
of what we're good at doing, you know, from a
hitting standpoint, getting quality at batch, moving guys over driving
runs in fouling off top pitches to get to your pitch.
I mean, they all know what they're doing up there,
and you know, for us as pitchers, it's just getting
ahead of guys and putting them away early. And when

(30:55):
we do all of our things, and you know, they
bring talent over here, that that stuff takes care of
itself when we're doing our job.

Speaker 8 (31:00):
So I don't think there's any pressing.

Speaker 18 (31:02):
You know, from a media standpoint, people will always try
to write articles.

Speaker 8 (31:05):
And this is not a slight towards anybody, but like you.

Speaker 18 (31:08):
Guys only see from the one side of the lens
and then from from the sidelines here and inside the clubhouse.
The way these guys go about their business, there's it's
not like the process is bad.

Speaker 8 (31:18):
It's not like the mindset is bad.

Speaker 18 (31:20):
I mean, it takes a lot of a lot of talent,
It takes a lot of good fortune, it takes a
lot of you know, big plays in health and when
all things are working. I don't know if there's any
better team in baseball than the Dodgers, but there's a
lot of very talented teams out there. So you can't
just bank on the talents on the roster. We have
to perform and you're gonna start seeing that. And I
felt like last night was a great step.

Speaker 9 (31:39):
That was Blake trying in pregame on the show yesterday.
You can hear the full conversation on the iHeartRadio app.
Hard to argue with what Blake Trining had to say there,
and it feels like it wasn't just talk because the
Dodgers performed to the level that Trinan was describing yesterday.
In this series after losing four in a row. They

(32:00):
were twelve and twenty two coming into this series after
having a nine game lead on July third, and they
hand the Padres their first series sweep since May. The
Padres had not been swept in a series since May
until today, while the Dodgers won their first have their
first three game winning streak since July third. That's how

(32:23):
upside down things changed in this weekend in these three games,
with the Dodgers sweep in the Padres being down a
game in the NL West and now have a two
game lead headed to Denver for a four game series.
Eight six, six, nine, seven, two five seventy is the
phone number. Let's go out to the oc. Phil, You're

(32:43):
on Dodger Talk Live from Dodgers Stadium.

Speaker 13 (32:46):
Hi Phil, Hey Dave, thanks for taking my call.

Speaker 7 (32:50):
My pleasure so funny, I was.

Speaker 13 (32:52):
I was just gonna start off and say something about
how good it felt with Blake Tryna getting a little
bit of redemption, and I don't know if it's redemption
at this point more than it's him settling in. And
then also Vesia today just incredible, getting the inning plus
release that he did. And then I had a question
for you.

Speaker 9 (33:13):
Okay, Yeah, I'll just say this, Yes, I think that's
a great way to describe Blake Trnen, who had missed
close to three months, settling back in and being himself.
His sweeper looked much better than I've seen it since
he came back off the IL. And I'm sure Vessia,
who got the last five outs, he definitely should be given.

Speaker 7 (33:33):
A lot of credit for that.

Speaker 9 (33:34):
Would have loved to have strucken out Jose Iglesias instead
of getting a ground ball which allowed the tying run
to score. But he got the out, he got the
final two outs, and then he was able to get
the three outs in the ninth inning. So a five outs, say,
or a five out win for Alex Vesio was huge.
What's your question?

Speaker 13 (33:55):
So, obviously, like everybody, we're I'm feeling great about this
actually being out here and coming off the loss of
the Angels, I was here in not all week, so
in the playoffs potentially matching up with Milwaukee, who I
believe has swept us this year, or Philly, I kind
of wanted to know what your thoughts are as we
go into the final stretch here and how you think

(34:16):
that we match up with them if we face them
in the playoffs.

Speaker 9 (34:19):
Yeah, number one, Phil. I was actually looking at what
potential scenarios for matchups would be if the Dodgers did
win the division and we're in this spot being the
third having the third best record of the division winners.
With the way things are set up with the Brewers,
who lost a game, their fourteen game winning streak was

(34:40):
ended today, the Brewers are twelve games ahead of the
Dodgers in the lost column. They're going to be the
number one seed in the National League.

Speaker 7 (34:48):
Right now.

Speaker 9 (34:48):
The Phillies and Dodgers are tied with the same record,
and the Phillies owned the tiebreaker, and the Phillies are
coming to Dodgers Stadium at the end of this month,
but it eliminates a Dodgers Padres NLDS matchup. There's a
possibility off San Diego could get through the first round
and the Dodgers could do that as well. We could

(35:09):
see a Dodgers Padres matchup in the NLCS, But with
the way things are stacked up right now, the Dodgers
would host the winner of a Phillies Mets and now
a wildcard series if they're able to be the second
division winner.

Speaker 1 (35:29):
Okay, thank you so much.

Speaker 13 (35:30):
Yeah, I just the optimism I'm feeling at this point,
regardless of who we face. Our starting pitching has looked
so good. Like you said from Kershaw, I mean, I know,
y'all momotos how to rough start lately, but all season
he's been great. Glass now smell Zilla. Everybody's looking good.
So hopefully, hopefully we keep it going like this and
a great week.

Speaker 9 (35:51):
They're going only as far as they're starting pitching takes them. Phil, Yes, sir,
all right, thank you for the phone call. Let's take
one more phone call before we say goodbye on this
great Sunday afternoon. Let's go out to Monrovia.

Speaker 7 (36:04):
Brock.

Speaker 9 (36:05):
Don't make me regret taking this last call. I've been
burned so many times before. I'm looking for redemption today.

Speaker 2 (36:14):
Never never d be No.

Speaker 4 (36:15):
I appreciate you, uh yeah taking my call, brother, I mean,
just to echo with what everybody's been Sandy. You know what,
what from the interviews that I took more than anything,
is that the drops, just the play playing the like
Blake was stating, just baseball, the baseball drops that we
get that we weren't getting on the on the on
the awayside in our favor before that we're just coming

(36:38):
for us. The play yesterday with uh with Manny at third,
that dive, getting on getting on them early and picking
picking out pitches early on in the game was really
the name of the game for us, and our defense
being on point and then having Kershaw kind of set
the tone. The thing is, the thing is more than
anything that I've noticed, is you know the leader ship,

(37:00):
Who is the defining leader in the clubhouse. I don't know,
because obviously you would know this better than anybody, But
I got to say, like Kershaw having that presence there
setting the tone from game one and just just being
lights out for for that many innings was such a
good tone for the rest of everybody else.

Speaker 2 (37:19):
To follow that we just all had to raise our
level a little bit. To see Freddy get on the
bat and get on the ball today was was just
so encouraging to see Tao during this series raise his
level and even Conforto. To see Confordo really produce and
accept that challenge from from Dave was was so awesome
to see everybody's correct.

Speaker 4 (37:41):
The job is not done.

Speaker 2 (37:43):
We all know there's a there's you know, a month
and a half month in a Cup.

Speaker 4 (37:47):
A week or two left the regular season, so.

Speaker 2 (37:49):
We just got to keep continuing this mindset and uh,
you know, take it into October.

Speaker 4 (37:54):
So encouraged to see. But the job is not done.
But I think we all as Dodgers fans get that
and we're behind the team in every single step they take.
So yeah, it was a great weekend, all.

Speaker 7 (38:07):
Right, Brock.

Speaker 9 (38:07):
Great walk off phone call right there. You delivered as well.
You raised your level right there, Brock.

Speaker 4 (38:14):
Yeah. I do what I can, brother, I do what
I can just for you, dv Thank you to trusting
money only for you.

Speaker 7 (38:21):
That's right.

Speaker 9 (38:22):
You don't swim with the fishes. You're right here with
us in the High Rent District. Thanks for the phone call, Brock,
appreciate it. That'll do it for us. On Dodger Talk today,
the Dodgers sweep the Padres with the five to four win.
Mookie Betts with the big go ahead home run in
the eighth inning, Freddie Freeman and Andy pa Has with
home runs in the first inning off of you, Darvish

(38:45):
and Alex Vesia gets the final five outs to pick
up the win in relief. The Dodgers keep going tomorrow
in Denver, a four game series at Corus Field. Yamamoto
will be on the mound. He's ten and eight with
an ERA at two four going up against Kyle Freeland.
The left hander is three to twelve with an ERA
of five eighteen. And don't forget Eric Carros' son. Kyle Carros,

(39:10):
the third baseman, was called up last week. He was
a fifth round draft pick in twenty twenty three by
the Rockies. He is on his way to a great
career already, as his first hit, his first ARRBI, and
we'll see what he does against his dad's former team,
Morongo Casino.

Speaker 7 (39:28):
Dodgers on Deck begins.

Speaker 9 (39:29):
At four point thirty tomorrow with first pitch at five forty.
Thanks to Dwayne McDonald out here at Dodgers Stadium, thanks
to Colin Yee back at our Burbank Studios, and thanks
to you for listening and calling in and being passionate.

Speaker 7 (39:45):
And caring about this team.

Speaker 9 (39:46):
Without the fans, this means absolutely nothing. So a sellout
crowd all three games here at Dodgers Stadium certainly gave
the Boys in Blue the energy they needed to retake
for place.

Speaker 7 (40:01):
That's exactly what they did.

Speaker 9 (40:02):
They responded to the challenge after being down a game
in the division, they come back with three straight wins
and are now two games ahead of the Padres in
the NL West.

Speaker 7 (40:14):
Once again.

Speaker 9 (40:14):
The final score from Dodgers Stadium the Dodgers defeat the
Padres five to four.

Speaker 7 (40:20):
Have a great rest of your Sunday. Be safe. We'll
talk to you tomorrow. Sealm
