Speaker 1 (00:01):
One thing about this gene is the invisible and tangibles
that they have.
Speaker 2 (00:07):
This team is really becoming a family.
Speaker 3 (00:09):
Let's not play one on tone.
Speaker 4 (00:10):
Let's I love writing me these guys after the show.
So just thank you, give me are.
Speaker 5 (00:15):
Your attention, your fire and not a pisses.
Speaker 6 (00:17):
This is world champion, Dodger, world champion.
Speaker 5 (00:21):
Thing here for the small soft time they get a
people what they want to die to in a row
two is special.
Speaker 6 (00:26):
I'm like, yeah, it's not a headache one of them
con this ball's gone.
Speaker 5 (00:31):
You ready to go?
Speaker 3 (00:32):
Sure?
Speaker 6 (00:33):
Hell time go to the sound grab your phone to
get in on the show called eight six six nine
eighty seven two five seven and.
Speaker 5 (00:40):
Go to the show.
Speaker 6 (00:41):
And now your host of Dodger Talk, David.
Speaker 5 (00:44):
Basse, Welcome the Dodger Talk. David vassay with you until
nine thirty tonight. We are taking phone calls at eight
six six nine eight seven two five seventy. After the
Rockies shock the Dodgers tonight with an eight to three win.
The Dodgers have now lost two of the first three
(01:06):
of this four game series. It looks like their lead
in the NLS by the time this show is over
is going to be down to one game because the
Giants are trailing the Padres right now in San Diego
seven to one in the bottom of the seventh innings,
So the Dodgers' lead in the NLS will go down
(01:27):
to one game. And look, they only have themselves to
blame for the position they're even in. I mean the
lack of focus the first night tonight, especially just I
don't know what happened. They talked about having heightened focus,
they talked about bullpen meetings, hitters meetings, and then they
(01:49):
allow Tanner Gordon to shut them down for six innings. Otani,
on a ground ball to the right side, stays at
second base in the first inning, doesn't go to third base. Otani,
a comebacker, could have started an inning ending double play.
Will Smith gets his attention, they get the out, but
that opens the door for the inning to continue and
(02:11):
the Rockies end up scoring four runs in excuse me,
three runs in the fourth innings. So just a lapse
of judgment a few different times that led to giving
life to the Rockies. You let a bad team believe
they can beat you, they will, And that's what happened tonight.
The Dodgers opened the door for the Rockies, and the
(02:34):
Rockies took the opportunity and they were ahead five to
nothing after four innings tonight, and the Dodgers never seem
to get on track, as the Rockies beat o'tani and
the Dodgers tonight eight to three, eight six, six, nine,
eight seven two five seventy is the phone number we
will get your phone calls in a moment. We will
(02:55):
hear from pitching coach Mark Pryor, who was a guest
on Dan Patrick Show this morning and revealed more than
we have heard all season long about what inn o'
tawny postseason pitching plan could look like. But first let's
head back to Corsfield, and here from manager Dave Roberts.
Speaker 7 (03:15):
I think I took him out because a little bit
of the score, a little bit most part of it,
because it was getting stiff and there was some swelling there.
So it was in the thigh fortunately and not off
the knee. But it got him square and so right
now he's getting treatment, and so you know, I felt
(03:37):
as the game was going to go on, it was
going to stiffen up more stuff wise with his outing today,
What were you seeing from him that just kind of
led to them being able to kind of stack on
some weather as head server runs. I just don't think
today show Hey had his best stuff, you know. It
just the fastball wasn't as good as it typically is.
(03:59):
The breaking ball isn't a sharp, and so the cutter
the same thing. So I just think that today it
just wasn't as night. It just and even talking to
Mark in the pen, it just didn't seem like the
stuff was there tonight. And not not that it always correlates,
but tonight, I just don't think he, you know, his
stuff wasn't there.
Speaker 5 (04:20):
I'm hopeful.
Speaker 7 (04:22):
Obviously he was already scheduled to be down tomorrow, so
with tomorrow, yeah, I mean, I'm pretty confident.
Speaker 8 (04:29):
I am.
Speaker 3 (04:30):
I'm confident.
Speaker 4 (04:31):
Is this one of those things where you have to
wait a day to see our reaction overnight?
Speaker 7 (04:37):
You do, but you know, when you're talking about a
contusion to the thigh, it's it's not as I mean,
we'll see how he comes out of it. But again,
you know, guys get hit all the time, you know,
by a pitcher and obviously not by a bat and ball.
But I'm hopeful, confident, but again we have to see
how he comes in on Friday.
Speaker 5 (04:58):
Hey, that's good news from dam Roberts regarding Otani taking
a comebacker in the fourth inning, not off his kneecap,
not off any shinbone, but on his thigh the meat
part of the right leg. So that was the relief
that Dave Roberts has in the confidence that he has
that Otani will be back in the starting lineup on
Friday in San Diego for the first of three games
(05:21):
at pet Goo Park. Eight six six nine eight seven
two five seventy is the phone number. Look. All season long,
there's been two raging debates amongst Dodger fans, and quite honestly,
the Dodgers are very fortunate that ESPN and First Take
and Steven A. Smith don't really debate baseball, because if
(05:42):
they did, they would create a lot more drama for
the Dodgers than what they would like. The raging debate
amongst the Dodger fans this year has been a why
doesn't Mookie Bets go back to right field? We got
into that the last night and Dave Roberts actually answered
those quiestquestions before the game that we shared with you.
And in case you didn't hear the show last night,
(06:05):
that whole drummed up meeting between Andrew Freeman, Dave Roberts,
and Mookie Bets. Look, they may have talked about right field,
but nobody knows for certain, and that was an irresponsible
reporting job to say that they did talk about him
moving back to right field when the writer had no
(06:26):
clue whether or not it was discussed or not. But
Dave Roberts, you know, basically laughed it off and said, no,
they didn't talk about it. But we'll see whether or not.
Mookie Betts talks to us on Friday in San Diego
and answers those questions. But those are the two debates.
Should Mookie Bets go back to right field where is
(06:46):
his glove more valuable for the Dodgers? And the other
is should show hey o Tani continue to pitch or
should he give it up and just be a hitter. Well,
I'm not going to panic. I'm not going to get
on that roller coaster after two starts for a guy
that hasn't pitched in two years and say, yeah, the
Dodgers should pull the plug on Otawni pitching. Now. I'm
(07:08):
not going to do that, and I don't think that's
the right move to go and say, yeah, he can't
do it anymore. No coursefield is unforgiving to a lot
of pitchers. There's been starts where Granky rue Kershaw, the
best of them have not had their pitches have the
same life there as they have had at sea level.
And Otani just didn't have the same life on his
(07:31):
pitches tonight. So I'm not going to say the Dodgers
should pull the plug on otani pitching because of two
subpar starts tonight, probably his least convincing pitching start of
the season. Eight six, six nine, eight seven, two five
seventy is the phone number we got to start out
in my hometown, Woodland Hills. Matt, you're on Dodger Talk.
(07:54):
How you doing.
Speaker 3 (07:56):
I'm doing all right, Dave. So yeah, I wanted to
talk a little bit just about this roster construction in general,
and we can follow that down all the way to
biting Confordo again. Who's batting worse than Estuary Ruiz? You know,
in the last fifteen games, like why is he still there?
But ultimately and he it's worse against right handers and
(08:18):
left handers. You can look up those stats too. It's Hey,
the Dodgers.
Speaker 5 (08:21):
Jason Hayward with better numbers or closer numbers last year,
and he was supposedly a great clubhouse guy. So you're right, Matt,
I don't know how long this is going to continue,
and when the Dodgers may come to a decision that hey,
it's not working and we got to get more production.
But Michael CONFORDA wasn't the only reason why they lost tonight.
Speaker 3 (08:42):
No, it wasn't. But I think there's a larger issue here. Like,
we've got the highest payroll, We've got the oldest roster.
Old rosters in any sport have the most injuries. It's
been that way, the most aisle games for any team
in the last three years. The Dodgers are always on top,
and the farm system is overrated. I mean, who's the
last really good person it's come up since Will Smith
that's really made you know, I guess, well, okay, one, okay,
(09:09):
the coveted, the coveted GM that is, you know, bestowed
with three hundred million in payroll against like the Brewers
with one thirteen Like the last two years, it just
struggle after struggle, underperform, underperform, Yeah, I mean they won
the World Series, performed.
Speaker 5 (09:24):
They won the World Series last year.
Speaker 3 (09:26):
They won the World Series last year. But yeah, the
in the regular season, it was underperformance. It was a
lot of injuries. They got healthy at the right time. Like,
it's just they.
Speaker 5 (09:35):
Won the World Series. You can't say, you can they won.
They won ninety nine games and won the World Series.
Come on, Matt, Matt, come on you.
Speaker 3 (09:45):
To roll out thirty five year old players and expect
them to say like.
Speaker 5 (09:48):
That, who wins the World Series? A bunch of rookies
don't win the World Series? Matt. I understand, it's fine
if you want to be constructive about criticism. I'm all
for it. But that's ridiculous for you to say last
year the Dodgers unperformed, underperformed. They won ninety nine games,
they beat the Padres in the NLDS, they won the
World Series. How can you say that? Come on, just
(10:12):
admit that was a ridiculous statement. I can see the conforto.
What you said was ridiculous. They won the World Series,
they won the Ultimate Prize.
Speaker 3 (10:24):
Yeah, yeah, they did that. They had all right, so okay,
it continues to happen, all right, continue to have the
oldest roster, and this is what happens. They've got people
in there that eventually it's catching up.
Speaker 5 (10:37):
Hey, I agree with you, it's starting to get Next
year is going to be an older roster than it
is this year. But Freddy Freeman is top three and
hitting sho Heo Tani, who's thirty years old, is a
pretty damn good player. I would say, ta Oscar Hernandez
is showing a little bit of his age. Rojas is
thirty six month sy before you know he had a
(10:58):
strained right oblique was doing pretty good as well. So
you know, I understand what you're saying. But the reality is, Matt,
kids don't win championships. You have too many of them.
You're not going to win.
Speaker 3 (11:11):
No, you don't win on the bench either from being hurt.
And that's what happened.
Speaker 5 (11:15):
Well, they won last year, Matt, Matt, they won last year.
Are you a Dodger fan? Matt, Matt, are you? Are
you a Dodger fan?
Speaker 3 (11:25):
You the fact three hundred million dollars in payroll. If
I had three hundred million dollars in payroll, I can
construct a roster that would not be top being hurt
all the time.
Speaker 5 (11:35):
Okay, why don't you get back to me and uh,
let me know how what tweaks you would make to
the roster. What would you have done differently this year?
I bet you were clamoring for Ti Oscar Hernandez as well.
Speaker 3 (11:49):
No, they've been pretty good in the past about getting
rid of aging people like Jock Peterson and.
Speaker 5 (11:54):
Jack Peterson was aging. It wasn't aging when the Dodgers
let him walk. He wanted to play every.
Speaker 3 (12:00):
Yeah, okay, Matt, you got to get your facts straight.
Speaker 5 (12:04):
Yep, you got to get them straight before you call back.
I love you, but come on that. What you're saying
is ridiculous. Thank you for the phone call. Look, I'm
all good if you want to criticize some of the
roster decisions the Dodgers have made. But when you tell
me last year the Dodgers underperformed. They won ninety nine
games and won the World Series. Yes, they had injuries,
(12:28):
there's no disputing that Tyler Glasnaw was the biggest one.
But they won the World Series. How I don't understand
what else you want. Let's go out to Ken in
Newport Beach. I left him hanging the other night. Ken,
You're on Dodger Talk. How you doing?
Speaker 4 (12:44):
Okay? Thanks? Dave a couple of things that I don't understand.
Yesterday Call had more hits than had this month. Yet
Dave doesn't start when they were again to get hits.
That didn't make sense. The second thing is o'tana gave
him five hits in a row. That's when you take
(13:07):
him out. You left him in. He gets hick by
a ball which could have been monumental, and he should
have been pulled. He didn't have it. Dave just sat
there and watched.
Speaker 5 (13:19):
He was the fourth inning then.
Speaker 4 (13:22):
Right when they scored the five runs.
Speaker 5 (13:25):
Yeah, I agree with you. It was getting a little
dice in that fourth inning. I thought o'tani and will
Smith made a huge mistake. Will Smith convinced o'tani to
come home when he could have had an inning ending
double place. So you know, I thought Will Smith kind
of led him down the wrong path right there.
Speaker 4 (13:46):
All right? What about Call? Why wouldn't you start him
after from getting.
Speaker 5 (13:49):
Because he hits lefties, he doesn't hit righty's I understand what? Hey, Ken,
I can't. I can't argue that one. Let it ride.
He had a good first game, he had a great
second game. Let it ride. He's feeling great at the plate.
He called himself a great player last night after the game.
(14:10):
I'm with you. Let it ride?
Speaker 4 (14:13):
Yeah, okay, thank you.
Speaker 5 (14:16):
Okay, Ken, thanks for the phone call. Eight six six
seven two five seventy. Look, I have no argument for
anybody that says play Alex call over Michael Confordo. I
don't have any defense of Michael Confordo anymore. I really don't.
I don't. I don't have any defense of him anymore.
(14:36):
Let's go out to mission Viejo Rico. You're on Dodger Talk.
How you doing, Rico?
Speaker 2 (14:41):
Hey?
Speaker 1 (14:42):
What David?
Speaker 8 (14:44):
Nice to for you to to take my call? Man,
A first of ball, I want to give you credit,
big time credit for making it very good to everybody
last night and calling out the fake news that Ellie
Times published. We appreciate that, David, because I go on
my Instagram, where am I going on YouTube? It's breaking news.
All mookie is demanding. So we just appreciate that. You know,
(15:06):
and you've always been so straight up to callers, man,
with all kinds of opinions and criticisms, you know what
I mean, like the last caller, and you know I
really dig that. But anyways, you know, I feel like
the Dodgers been playing for their competition. Man, I just like,
you know, getting swept by the Angels and then coming
up big time against San Diego, sweeping them, and then
(15:26):
now it's like, I feel like we're underperform against like
the worst team in the National League. You know, do
you think that they're kind of in that mode where
they perform according to the competition.
Speaker 5 (15:37):
I mean, it's hard to argue. Recently it feels like
they are playing down or up to their competition. There
was no reason for them to be swept by the Angels.
The Angels are a scrappy team, They're not a horrible team.
But the Rockies have thirty seven wins this year. The
Dodgers should not lose a game eight to three to
the Rockies. They should have lost the first game. So yeah,
(16:01):
I don't know. I don't know where things are out
with this team. I can't. I'm I'm exhausted trying to
figure out what's going on with this team and why
certain games they don't play and dominate like they should.
But tonight Otaani didn't have it. He was getting paper
cut to death in a lot of different ways and
(16:22):
couldn't get out. So it was just one of those
nights and hopefully, you know not hopefully Rico Clayton Kershaw
to the rescue again for the Dodgers tomorrow. He will
demand the focus that he demanded last Friday, and the Dodgers,
I predict, will win this game tomorrow and come go
to San Diego with a split.
Speaker 8 (16:42):
Hey David, real quick though, so you know I'm in
South Orange County, not a lot of Dodger pants.
Speaker 5 (16:46):
But yeah, Mission Vieho, Mark Sanchez. That's Mark Sanchez neighborhood
right there, Mission.
Speaker 2 (16:51):
Vieh High School.
Speaker 9 (16:53):
Baby.
Speaker 8 (16:53):
But you know what, so you know they keep asking me,
teaching me waver Tommy's trumbling. Oh what are you gonna
do as a Dodger fan? You don't make it to
a ob or you don't make the World Series. And
you know what I always tell him, I always will
watch last year's World Series and Game one.
Speaker 5 (17:09):
Hey, Rico, Rico, can you make it to Monterey Park
on Saturday to meet Ron Say? I got a VIP
pass for an autograph and photo op to meet the
penguin on Saturday in Monterey Park.
Speaker 8 (17:21):
Matter of fact, what's funny is I was talking. I
work in healthcare. I was talking to one of my patients,
which is a big time card collector, and we were
talking about it and we're like, oh man, that would
be cool. But you know see, I would appreciate dom Man.
Really big up to you man. Really, I enjoy really
listening to your.
Speaker 5 (17:36):
Sociateco Congratulations courtesy in one way memorabilia. You're gonna meet
the greatest third baseman in Dodger history, Ron Say on
Saturday two three three four Atlantic Avenue, Monterey Park at
eleven am. You got to be there and the penguin
will take a picture with you, he'll sign an autograph
(17:59):
with you. It'll be a good time. So hold on
and Colin, we'll get your information. Thank you, no worries, Rico,
thank you, enjoy Ron say on Saturday eight six six
eight seven two five seventy is the phone number we
are going to take a time out here on Dodger
Talk when we continue more of your phone calls. We
have one line open right now eight six six nine
(18:22):
eighty seven two five seventy, and we'll hear from Mark
Pryor because he was on DP show this morning and
gave us more information than anybody with the Dodgers have
regarding the plan or possible plan for Otani pitching in
the postseason. Don't go anywhere More Dodger Talk with David

Speaker 9 (19:05):
Looks like they're gonna get marched. This ball hit deep
to right field. This one headed back to the wall,
and it's gone. Tioscar Hernandez home run number twenty one,
an opposite field shot up over the scoreboard and the
Dodgers on the board.
Speaker 5 (19:19):
It's five to one. Taskar Hernandez with his twenty first
home run of the year. Too little, too late for
the Dodgers tonight at Corsefield as they fall to the
Rockies eight to three. David Vase with you until nine
thirty here on Dodger Talk. Daniels Jewelers presents the home
run forecast. Go to AM five to seventy LA sports

to win a fifty dollars Daniels Jeweler's gift card predicting
the number of home runs in the next game. Daniels
Jewelers owned the dream I told you. Over the course
of the last few shows, I've been told that keyk
Hernandez is expected to return next week, maybe as soon
(20:02):
as Monday, when the Dodgers open up the home stand
against the Reds. Well tonight, Key k Hernandez has two
hits for Oklahoma City, including an RBI double. He's dhing
for Oklahoma City. So the Dodgers definitely need Key K
a Hernandez. He could plug in at third base, he
can plug in in the outfield, he can plug in anywhere.
(20:23):
The Dodgers need Key K a Hernandez back, and they
need Key k a Hernandez's energy back and leadership on
this team. Eight six six eight seven two five seventy
is the phone number. A rough night for show Hey
Otani tonight, as he gave up five runs and four
innings in his last two starts. He has given up
nine runs. Remember he gave up four against the Angels
(20:46):
last week and five tonight in four innings. Mark Pryor,
the Dodgers pitching coach, was on Dan Patrick's show this
morning and gave gave us a little sneak peek of
what the Dodgers may be planning for Otani the postseason.
Pitching wise, it's a good question, very fair question.
Speaker 10 (21:05):
We've it's been discussed, and it's really understanding kind of
the rules of him coming in as a reliever and
knowing that because of the rule of the way it's
set up right now, as a starter, he can come
out of the game and still maintain as a DH,
but he comes in as a reliever. You got to
find that line and where hopefully the game end is,
because you can't put him in in the sixth and
(21:26):
then take him out as a pitcher in the seventh
and keep him in as a DH. So it would
have to be a situation where it was probably we
think the game's over and he's closing or be okay
with him not coming not hitting anymore.
Speaker 1 (21:38):
So that would be.
Speaker 5 (21:40):
Really the only scenario.
Speaker 10 (21:41):
Can I see it, absolutely, But it would probably be
closer to the back end when the game's you know,
kind of on the line, and it would be over
after he's done.
Speaker 5 (21:50):
Well, well, well, look at Mark Pryor, echoing what I
have said that if the Dodgers were to you show,
Hey Otani as a reliever, it would be to close
out a series, whether it be the NLDS, the NLCS,
or the World Series. We've seen this happen before in
(22:11):
the World Baseball Classic as Shoe a Otani struck out
Mike Trout to give Team Japan the championship the last
time the World Baseball Classic was out there, and Mark
Pryor pointed out a very interesting thing. The Otani rule
is for him starting, it's not for him coming in
as a reliever. So you take him out of the game,
(22:32):
you lose him as the hitter. And that's why I
envision an Otani ninth inning, maybe a four to five
or six out, say for Otani in the eighth and
ninth inning. But that's the scenario for an Otani coming
in as a reliever for the Dodgers in the postseason.
There you go. Now you heard it officially from somebody
(22:54):
in uniform what I've been telling you since the beginning
of the year. Let's go out to Austin, Texas. Kevin,
you're on Dodger Talk with David vasse Hi.
Speaker 2 (23:05):
Kevin, Hey, David, I can say a lot a lot
of the callers a kind of echoed stations. This reminds
me of the days when Kobe was on those bad
teams and or maybe even one of the good ones.
When it's the last shot of the game, everyone's just
standing around and watching. I feel like when Yamamoto or
(23:25):
or tany throwing a good game, they got to be
basically perfect to even have a chance to not come
out with a loss at this point. Uh, And obviously
show here today wasn't and last start. But to the
point you made about the team meetings, and I know
you're not in the room all the time, but there's
you said that the pitching staff or the bullpen in
(23:48):
some and the and the starters that have a meeting,
is there some is there a voice in the room
that can get the whole the whole locker room together
and just just say what are we doing? Because it's
like a yo yo right now. And I hate to
be a prisoner of the moment, but watching the Brewers
manhandle us couldn't beat the Angels once this year, and
(24:09):
we got to help Kershaw, like you said, push the
team on his back tomorrow to write the ship to
get a split against Colorado. These are the Washington generals
they're playing and yeah, they're playing better baseball, But we're
supposed to be the best team in baseball. It don't
look like it. But is there a voice that can
get everybody together and stop doing this in silos?
Speaker 5 (24:28):
Yeah, they're superstars, aren't those guys? Kevin? That's the issue
o Tani. Obviously a little bit of the language barrier.
Mookie's not that type of guy. Freddie's not that type
of guy. I feel like, yeah, their best players are
not that type of voice in the respect that you're
asking about. Like Blake Trenton was that guy When I
(24:50):
was watching, I didn't hear it, but we saw it
where the relievers were in left field on the field,
That's why I saw it. And Blake was our pregame
guest over the weekend and describe what took place where
they were demanding better performance, more accountability. That type of
guy for the bullpen is Blake Trinon Kershaw. It's tough
(25:11):
for a pitcher to be that guy, Kevin, because the
only pitch you know right now once a week, So
it's tough for a pitcher to be that guy. So
all I can say is, these smaller groups hold each
other accountable and come together when it's game time. I
think that's the way the Dodgers have handled it, even
going back to last year, Dave Roberts had that meeting
(25:32):
It's famous now in Atlanta where he challenged Walker Buehler
in front of the whole team after Tyler Glassnow couldn't
go the rest of the year. That's as close as
it's come that I know about over the course of
the last ten years.
Speaker 2 (25:49):
Yeah, and hey, I love this team, right, I'm gonna
listen to every show after the game, watch every game,
so I'm not sitting here gonna get sad about one.
But it is tough to watch a collection of what
We have. Great talents in the rotation, you know, one
through five, probably better than anybody in baseball, but we
are really weak in the intangibles, it seems this year.
And I hope somebody steps up in these last thirty
(26:12):
something games because you know, Mookie sitting out today, Tanny
sitting out tomorrow. I'm pretty sure Machado would never set
out a game in a pennant race, and we need
a guy like that.
Speaker 5 (26:22):
Well, Freddy's not Freddy's not sitting out. Don't forget about Freddy.
He's one of the best. He's not sitting out, So
you got guys like that. Tae Oscar isn't sitting out,
so you do have guys like that, Kevin.
Speaker 2 (26:37):
True True, David too, David, I'm just thinking you know
that the centerpieces of our team in marketing is Mookie
Bets in the show.
Speaker 5 (26:42):
I don't care about marketing. I care about I care
about the best players. And Freddy is the guy that
won the World Series for you last year. Kevin, I'm sorry.
It wasn't O Tawani and it wasn't Mookie Bets, it
was Freddie Freeman.
Speaker 2 (26:56):
Understood, David. Hey, I'm gonna keep listening. I'm just my point,
is I hope I understand? Is a voice that steps up? Hey, Kevin,
I appreciate you.
Speaker 5 (27:04):
Maybe this is the voice that we need, right Colin?
Do we have it for Kevin?
Speaker 8 (27:08):
There is no Tomorrow?
Speaker 5 (27:11):
How about that voice, Kevin?
Speaker 2 (27:13):
Movie takes me back to when I was a kid
of my dad. David, I love you to thanks for
giving us a voice and go Dodgers.
Speaker 5 (27:20):
All right, Kevin? There is no Tomorrow. Eight six six
nine eight seven two five seventy is the phone number
Let's not forget about Freddie. I feel like he and
Kershaw are taken for granted. It was Freddie Freeman that
carried the Dodgers to that World Series championship last year.
Let's make no mistakes about that. That walk off, grand
(27:41):
slamming Game one was the first of what five games
of home runs for Freddie Freeman. Twelve RBIs. He wasn't
just a one game guy. He was there for the
entire World Series. It was Freddy Freeman that carried the
Dodgers to the World Series last year. Let's go out
to Don and San dimas you're on Dodger Talk. How
(28:01):
you doing Don?
Speaker 2 (28:03):
I'm doing all right, Dave.
Speaker 1 (28:04):
I could be better if this team would get their
heads out of their behind. But I just feel so
frustrated because they're doing things that little leaguers don't do.
I don't understand throwing to the wrong base. I mean,
just you know, not running the bases right. It's just
ridiculous stuff, and it's getting so old. But the main
thing that's driving me crazy is Michael Conforto. Why does
(28:25):
Dave keep trotting him out there? I don't get it.
Speaker 5 (28:29):
Yeah, that's not an answer I have right now. Look,
I think we all know that it's been a struggle
for Michael Conforto outside of three weeks before the trade deadline.
But I don't have the answer. Don I'm with you.
I don't know how many more chances he's going to get.
I really don't. But we'll see where it leads in.
(28:51):
I'll be able to talk to Dave on Friday in
San Diego about all that.
Speaker 1 (28:56):
Well, that's the kind of stuff that drags the team
down and I just don't get. But the one thing
I want to say is, yeah, they don't.
Speaker 5 (29:02):
Lose eight to three though to the Rockies because only
Michael Confordo. He obviously didn't contribute tonight, but it's not
the reason, the sole reason why the Dodgers lost tonight.
I feel like we get a little carried away with it.
I think they're mutually exclusive and sometimes they are the
same thing, you know, where, Yes, Michael Confordo didn't play
(29:26):
well tonight, Yes the Dodgers lost, But is it all
on Michael Confordo.
Speaker 1 (29:32):
No, of course not, And that's not my point. My
point is I just think the decision making is just
crazy sometimes. But to see that over and over, it's like,
you know what, it's the one dead spot that just
like I said, it's driving me nuts. But you know
you said something about you know, who's the guy who
can stand up and speak to these guys and stuff.
Any one of them should be able to say, Hey,
(29:52):
look guys, let's start doing what we're supposed to do.
Let's stop making these dumb decisions. I mean, come on,
are running like show hey did today? I mean, come on,
they should be better than that.
Speaker 5 (30:05):
Yeah, it goes back to the level of focus. They
seem to have it some nights, they seem to not
have it as much other nights. And it wasn't there tonight.
Can't argue with that. Don Thank you for the phone call.
Eight six six nine seven two five seventy is the
phone number. Hey, we got a pro Michael Conforto phone
call from a very positive vibe area of SoCal and
(30:28):
that's Ventura, California. Daniel, you're on Dodger Talk. How you doing?
Speaker 11 (30:33):
I'm doing well, David. How about yourself?
Speaker 5 (30:36):
I was in Ventura just two days ago, took the
family up there. It was on Main Street. Enjoyed my
time by the Pierre. Yeah, I had a good time
at Ventura.
Speaker 11 (30:46):
Beautiful place to grow up and live.
Speaker 5 (30:47):
Man, So you got positive vibes for Michael Conforto. You're
a believer, I do.
Speaker 7 (30:55):
Yeah.
Speaker 11 (30:55):
So it was a tough Los tonight, but I'm confident
we'll bounce back tomorrow with Big Clint kirsch on. But hey,
I didn't want to get your thoughts on Michael Conforto.
I know you probably touched up on him a bunch
of times, but I was talking with the coworker of
mine who he said he'll rather cut him to rather
cut Markus Conforno. But personally, I'm not giving up on
him at all. There's still off the baseball left, man.
What's your take.
Speaker 5 (31:17):
Times? You know, as Yogi Berra used to say, Daniel,
it's getting late early. I mean, it's been a full season.
At some point, I feel like the Dodgers are gonna
run out of giving chances to Michael Conforto. I'm not
saying they're gonna dfa him, but maybe a lot less
playing time, especially when keythy A Hernandez returns. You might
(31:37):
see more of Tioscar Hernandez and left field, but it
may not necessarily mean Mookie BET's going to right field.
I think once you get Edmund back, Key Gay back.
You may see Michael CONFORDO not get as many opportunities.
But right now they're playing Buddy Kennedy and Alex Friedland
every day. They don't have too many other options. I
(31:58):
know Alex call is an option, but outside of him,
there's not too many other options.
Speaker 3 (32:04):
Yeah, very true.
Speaker 11 (32:05):
And Alice call when you played when there's a left
handed pitcher, that's right, but.
Speaker 5 (32:09):
I would have played him tonight and why not let
it ride?
Speaker 4 (32:13):
Yep?
Speaker 3 (32:13):
Sure true? Well, thank you David.
Speaker 11 (32:15):
All right, Daniel anyway, go Dodgers.
Speaker 5 (32:18):
All right, Daniel, thank you for the phone call. Eight
six six nine eight seven two five seventy is the
phone number. I want to remind you that you can
meet Dave Roberts on Thursday, August twenty eighth at the
Verizon store in Pasadena located at three six eight South
Lake Avenue, from five to six o'clock at night. I
(32:38):
don't want to make you go there at five am.
It's five pm to six pm. The event starts at
four o'clock pm, so show up early for your chance
to win tickets and merchandise. That's Thursday, August twenty eighth
with Dave Roberts in Pasadena, all brought to you by Verizon.
Tomorrow the finale of this four game series between the
Dodgers and Rockies. Clayon Kershaw will be on the mound.
(33:01):
He's seven and two with an ERA at three zero one,
going up against Chase Dolander. Dolander, in seventeen starts for
the Rockies is only two to nine with an ERA
of six forty three. Morono Casino Dodgers on Deck begins
at eleven am tomorrow with first pitch at twelve ten.
Thanks to Dwayne McDonald at corse Field, Thanks to Colin
(33:23):
Yee at our Burbanks Studios, and thanks to you for listening.
We had a great conversation with Alex Wood, who is
part of the Dodgers twenty seventeen, twenty eighteen National League
Championship teams and also the twenty twenty World Championship team.
Alex Wood just recently retired, so it was great to
catch up with Woody. You can listen to that conversation
(33:46):
on the iHeartRadio app. Once again. The final score tonight
at Coursfield. Somehow, some way, the Rockies beat the Dodgers again,
eight to three. We'll talk to you tomorrow. See it
something the Jeans not lived apart
