Speaker 1 (00:01):
One thing about this gene is the invisible and tangibles
that they have.

Speaker 2 (00:07):
This team is really becoming a family.

Speaker 3 (00:09):
Let's not play one on tom Let's wind it.

Speaker 4 (00:11):
I love letting these guys after the show. So just
thank you, give me are.

Speaker 5 (00:15):
Your attention, your fire, not a pisson.

Speaker 6 (00:17):
This is world champion, Dodgers world champion for a.

Speaker 5 (00:21):
Small soft time they get a people what they want
to die in a row two is special. I'm like, yeah,
it's not a headache. One of a con. This ball's gone.
You ready to go? Sure? All time to.

Speaker 6 (00:34):
The sound, grab your phone to get in on the
show called eight six six nine eighty seven two five
seven and go to the show.

Speaker 5 (00:41):
And now your host of Dodger Talk, Tim Kakes. Oh,
here we go.

Speaker 6 (00:48):
Dodgers padres three game series coming up.

Speaker 5 (00:53):
It is all set up for this.

Speaker 6 (00:55):
Dodger's a one game lead in the division going into
tomorrow's series opener in San Diego. The Dodgers get the
split in Colorado today, a nine to five win over
the Colorado Rockies and where they exploded for nine runs
on twelve hits. Clayton Kershaw pitched into the sixth inning.
He gets his eighth win of the season and the

(01:17):
Dodgers now it's seventy three and fifty five overall, one
game up on the San Diego Padres and the NL
West who are at seventy two and fifty six. The
Padres fresh off taking three to four from the San
Francisco Giants. They win today eight to four over San Francisco,
and now it is all set up for this three

(01:40):
game series Friday, Saturday.

Speaker 5 (01:42):
And Sunday in San Diego.

Speaker 6 (01:45):
Eight six six nine eighty seven to two five seventy
is the number.

Speaker 5 (01:48):
You thought last weekend was big.

Speaker 6 (01:50):
Well, here we are a weekend later and the Dodgers
have a one game lead in the division. How things
could really change depending on what happens over the next
three days in San Diego. And keep in mind, this
is the last time these two teams will tangle head
to head in the regular season. They will not have

(02:11):
any more head to head series in September down the
stretch nothing.

Speaker 5 (02:16):
This is it. The last week of August. This will
be it.

Speaker 6 (02:21):
The Dodgers and Padres head to head meeting for the
final time in the regular season this weekend in San Diego.
It is going to be electric. Eight six six nine eight,
seven to two. Five seventy is our telephone number. The
Dodgers today needed to get the win, and they got
the win. And of course today was a scheduled day

(02:42):
off for show Heyo Tani. That was not something affected
by the line drive that he took off the right
thigh last night.

Speaker 5 (02:49):
It had nothing to do with it.

Speaker 6 (02:50):
It was scheduled going into the series knowing that he
was gonna pitch Wednesday night day game in altitude. Going
into the San Diego series, no day off is scheduled.
Day off today for show hey Otani, also a day
off for Taeoscar Hernandez. But without two of the big
boppers in the lineup, the Dodgers didn't skip a beat.
They scored with a two run home run in the first.

(03:11):
They scored again in the second with a pair of
runs Miguel Rojas a one single Will Smith hit with
the bases loaded by a pitch to bring in a run.
The Dodgers scored in every single inning the first five
innings of this game. The Dodgers that built up an
eight to two lead after five innings of work. The
Dodgers' bullpen, Matt Sower, gave up a couple of runs,

(03:33):
but the Dodgers today a much needed win, a game
they had to have. They could not afford to lose
this game. In fact, I still think it's a disappointment
getting the split in a four.

Speaker 5 (03:46):
Game series in Colorado. I get it.

Speaker 6 (03:48):
The Rockies played up to this competition. They got a
lot to play for now as far as far as
these young guys are concerned, trying to prove their worth
at the big league level, It's a good, scrappy young
team that Colorado is.

Speaker 5 (04:00):
Starting to put together.

Speaker 6 (04:02):
They certainly have proven that by having almost an identical
record of the Dodgers since the All Star break. They
are play a lot better than they were the first
half of the season. They got a lot of young
guys fighting for their baseball futures. With that being said,
you have to take three or four. This was a
series that Dodgers had to have taken three or four.
As it turns out, they needed Clayton Kershaw today to

(04:24):
be that stopper, to be that go to guy to
put up zeros and to get them back on track.
And he has done that throughout his career. He's done
that in postseason play. He did it last weekend against
the San Diego Padres when they needed him on that
Friday night to go out there and put up zeros
and keep them in a game and give them a
good outing from a starting pitcher.

Speaker 5 (04:44):
He did it again today.

Speaker 6 (04:45):
A little frustrated he couldn't get the final out of
the sixth, but five and two thirds eighty five pitches
gave up three runs, six hits, three strikeouts. You'll take
that from Clayton Kershaw. And the Dodgers offense today again
did more more than enough.

Speaker 5 (05:00):
Nine runs on twelve hits.

Speaker 6 (05:02):
The Dodgers had a couple of home runs, they had
a triple, they had a couple of doubles. Alex frielan
was a home run shy of a cycle. Everything went
right today for the Dodgers. Now they got to bottle
that up somehow, sneaking aboard that flight that they're about
to get on, that chartered flight from Denver's International Airport
all the way to San Diego, and then unleash it
this weekend in San Diego. Because the Dodgers' offense today

(05:27):
played well top to bottom, contributed by almost.

Speaker 5 (05:31):
Everybody one through nine.

Speaker 6 (05:33):
All right, it was an zero for five day for
Dalton rushing, but Andy Pajes on base three times, a
home run, Alex Call on base three times, a couple
of walks, had an RBI single, Miguel Rojas walked, he
had a safety squeeze he was trying to put down
and actually got on base with an infield single on
that bun attempt. Guys did what they were supposed to

(05:56):
do today, producing top to bottom in this lineup that
needs to carry over this weekend into San Diego.

Speaker 5 (06:02):
Are they gonna erupt for nine runs?

Speaker 6 (06:04):
Probably not, maybe not even nine runs over the three
games in San Diego, But it is gonna be electric
at pet Go Park, no doubt about it. And I
cannot wait for these three games. And the Dodgers have
it lined up. Blake Snell on Friday night, Tyler Glass
now on Saturday, and Yoshinobu Yamamoto on Sunday. Hey, you

(06:28):
sign these guys to lucrative deals for this reason. You
brought them in to your rotation to pitching these games.
They're here to be elite rotation front end guys for you.
They're supposed to be here in pitching games like this
this weekend. Yeah, you get the games in Cincinnati in July.

(06:52):
You gonna start against the White Sox and interleague play. No, no,
this is why Tyler Glass, now, Blake'snell, and Yoshinobu Yabamodo
were brought in and signed to be in these moments,
to be in postseason play. But this can be right
up there. This is a notch below. This series is

(07:12):
a notch below October baseball. I'm not gonna say it's
postseason play, but it's right below that as far as
regular season games are concerned. Because there's a lot riding
on this. The Dodgers could come out of a sweep
of four games in the Division four games, or they
could be down two games in the Division. This thing

(07:35):
could sway so dramatically over the next three games based
on what happens in San Diego.

Speaker 5 (07:43):
And I can not wait.

Speaker 6 (07:47):
Eight six six nine, eight seven two five seven. Let's
go out to the phones. I told them off air
he would be first. We go to Colorado, We go
to my guy, Blake. Blake, you were at the game
today at Corusfield, Is that correct?

Speaker 4 (08:01):
Yeah?

Speaker 5 (08:02):
Was it too hot out there for you? Where were
you sitting?

Speaker 6 (08:05):
What was it like being out there for the Dodgers?
Who scored nine runs for you, Blake, we saw Freddie
Freeman go deep, and we saw Clayton Kershaw, the Hall
of Famer, pitch into the sixth Thenny, what was that like?

Speaker 5 (08:16):
What was the experience like?

Speaker 1 (08:20):
It was really good, we said, Askla and club whoever? Where?
It was not so hot? We said, we did it
in the sade, so we're not so it wasn't that hot. Okay, good,
but it was really really, really, really really fun.

Speaker 6 (08:36):
Now the question everybody's asking me, did you go to
Helton's Corner and get your grilled cheese?

Speaker 7 (08:43):
Yes?

Speaker 1 (08:44):
Yes, they give me to gloats and they give me
two glow cheeses and a drink for free.

Speaker 5 (08:50):
Yeah, how about that?

Speaker 6 (08:52):
The friends at Helton's Corner there at coors Field hooking
up our guy Blake with a couple of grilled cheese
and a free soda.

Speaker 5 (08:59):
You've got this se.

Speaker 6 (09:00):
The Dodgers a couple of times now this season come
to Colorado.

Speaker 5 (09:04):
What was that like to see them get the split today? Blake?

Speaker 6 (09:07):
As far as Clayton Kershaw, I mean you may never
see Clayton Kershaw pitch again.

Speaker 5 (09:11):
He's a future Hall of Famer. You're gonna be able to.

Speaker 6 (09:13):
Say, Blake, you saw Clayton Kershaw pitching a game when
he's a Hall of Famer for the rest of eternity.

Speaker 1 (09:22):
Yeah, it was really, really good, no doubt about it.

Speaker 5 (09:26):
It's gonna be a fun weekend in San Diego for
this team. Blake.

Speaker 6 (09:29):
I'm so glad to hear your voice. I'm glad you
checked in. I'm glad you got to sit in the
shade and grow enjoy a Dodgers win today over the
Colorado Rockies. And uh, we'll check in this weekend with
you and get your thoughts after the Padres game.

Speaker 1 (09:42):
Okay, when are you gonna be I gonna be back Sunday.

Speaker 6 (09:46):
I'll be back actually tomorrow and Sunday. How about that.
I'll be back tomorrow night.

Speaker 1 (09:51):
Okay, I always talk to you tomorrow night.

Speaker 5 (09:53):
Sounds good, Blake, sounds good.

Speaker 6 (09:55):
There he goes, my guy, Blake in Colorado checking in
a live correspond That's what happens here on Dodger Talk.
Dodgers is so big, so popular fans in every city.
Blake is our Denver correspondent. Blake is in Colorado. He
follows the Dodgers through the Midwest. When they go to
Milwaukee and Kansas City and different spots did that earlier
this summer, and now the second time the Dodgers have

(10:16):
made their trek to Denver, he has gone to games
and he enjoyed his free grilled cheese and soda thanks
to Helton's Corner there the Helton's Barbecue at corus Field
eight sixty six nine eight seven two five seventy ish
and Riverside, thanks for being patient. Welcome to Dodger Talk.
After a Dodgers nine to five win over the Colorado
Rockies today, Ish, how you doing?

Speaker 3 (10:36):
Yeah, heck yeah, thank you fellows for taking my call.
And hey, shout out to Blake Man. Wait to go Bro.
Just a couple of things, man, you know Clay saw,
Oh my god, he looks amazing. It looks like classic
Clinton Kershaw, you know what I mean. So super super
happy about that. It's like he hasn't skipped to beat.
So the second thing too, man, Dalton seems like he's
getting better, like behind the plate in every single game.

(10:57):
So just want to get your thoughts. What do you
what do you think?

Speaker 5 (11:00):
I thought he did a good job today.

Speaker 6 (11:01):
Didn't have a lot that he needed to do because
there wasn't a lot of traffic on the base pass
today for the Colorado Rockies. They stranded six runners over
the nine innings, one for eight with runners in scoring position,
but there wasn't a lot of guys in motion as
far as running, So that's good. So he didn't have
to do a lot. Called a good game, played good defense.
If we're not talking about Dalton rushing and things that

(11:23):
went wrong behind the plate, that's a good thing. You know,
a catcher should go unnoticed unless they're doing something really good.
You shouldn't have to bring up man, there's the problems
behind the plate, Yeah, you know, just not doing a
good job framing pitches, blocking balls, being the leader out
there behind the plate.

Speaker 5 (11:39):
If we're not.

Speaker 6 (11:39):
Saying those things, that's a good day for a starting catcher.
Dalton rushing behind the plate did well. Dalton rushing at
the plate well, zero for five with the strikeout, but
around him, Alex Freeland had three hits. Behind him in
the lineup, Andy Paez a home run, on base three times,
was two for four, so guys around him picked him up.

(12:00):
An oh for Dalton rushing at the plate today, and
we'll see if he's in the lineup. I would doubt
it that we see Dalton rushing in this series. I mean,
if any day he would catch, would be Sunday in
the day game. But my guess is this series means
too much and it's going to be Will Smith behind
the plate Monday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday in this three

(12:21):
game series. I know David Vassi was talking about that
before last weekend series, about the load management and you know,
not playing in games and you know, setting it up
for this moment. And Dave's absolutely right. You load manage
a catcher. You load manage in the NBA for the
late season, the push, the playoffs, the postseason. That's what

(12:44):
you load managed for early in the season. So you're
there at the end of the season and I know
it's late August.

Speaker 5 (12:51):
These are big series. You know.

Speaker 6 (12:53):
This isn't a stretch in which you got you know,
the Reds and then you've.

Speaker 5 (12:58):
Got the Nationals. No, no, no, You've got the.

Speaker 6 (13:00):
Padres six out of ten games in a row during
this stretch. So while he was off his feet today,
he was still the designated hitter. But I expect Will
Smith to be behind the plate in all three games
against the Padres. We'll take a break, we'll come back.
We'll get to more of your phone calls. Get ready
for Petro some money. Who are getting ready for a
great day of great sports talk Here on NFI seventy

(13:21):
LA Sports. Dodgers a happy fight as they head to
San Diego now for a huge three game series.

the first pitch from Nick Anderson, and the Dodgers have
extended their lead to eight to two.

Speaker 6 (14:14):
Andy Piz goes deep a solo home run in the

Daniels Jewelers own the dream. Clayton Kershaw eight and two
now on the season. He gets the victory pitching into
the sixth inning. He allowed three runs on six hits.
He struck out three along the way, and Casparious closed

(14:55):
out the six. Matt Sower got two innings of work,
gave up two runs in relief. Alex Bessie I pitched
the ninth struck out of pair, giving up no runs
in the ninth inning as the Dodgers to get nowt
to seventy three and fifty five on the season. Go
to Kennon Newport join us now on Dodger Talk here
on I seventy How you doing Ken?

Speaker 4 (15:15):
Hey, Tim doing good? Better than it was straight Just
a quick quick comment and then a question. I really
like Freelan, But I really really like call. Not only
is he got you could just look at his batting stance,
at his swing, but you're a really good outfielder and
he should be in right field. Which brings me to

(15:36):
my next question. In all the years you played, maybe coached,
or been here with the Dodgers, have you ever seen
a manager put a guy who in the last fifteen
days is hitting one eleven and two to eighty on
the season clean up in a game that's really important. Ever?

(15:58):
Have you ever seen that?

Speaker 6 (16:01):
I'd have to look it up. I don't think so. Ken,
I go, I see where you're going there. Michael Confordo today,
batting clean up for the Dodgers, struck out twice. He
was zero for four with a sack fly intoday's game.

Speaker 5 (16:16):
I was I was puzzled.

Speaker 6 (16:19):
I guess it's the best way to put it when
I looked at the lineup today and I saw Michael
Conforto batting clean up. Not sure the reasoning behind that.
Maybe you're you're going right left, right left with Betts Freeman,
Will Smith and Michael Conforto, and then you got the
switch hitting Alex Freeland. You got a left headed hitting
Dalton rushing right hander.

Speaker 5 (16:39):
Call.

Speaker 6 (16:39):
I mean, that's probably the reasoning why they're going, uh
with Michael Conforto in that spot. But if you are
trying to go that right left, right left kind of
marching order there, I wouldn't have had a problem, you know,
moving up Dalton rushing to bat clean up in place
of Michael Confordo. I wouldn't have hated that if that
was the case. Hey, Noting the US, they win nine

(17:01):
to five over the Rockies. They have twelve hits in
the game today, they go deep a couple of times.
Alex Freelan has a triple in this game. They had
a bunch of extra base hits, and they get the win.
That's all that matters right now, and the focus has
to be on San Diego. The focus has to be
on this three game series now at Peckoll Kart Park
beginning tomorrow night against the Padres. Let's go back out

(17:24):
to Denver, though. Let's hear from the manager Dave Roberts
and his postgame thoughts.

Speaker 7 (17:27):
It was just, you know, good first inning. Obviously, freddie
got us going. Clayton just continues to do what he
does and you know, give us a chance to win
every time he comes goes out and got into the
six innings, trying to sneak him through that six. But
I thought it through the ball really well for us.
His pitch mix was good and just competed like he

(17:49):
always does. But today was it was good because the
offense came to life and so we got some big
hits and took some really good at bat So to
come out of this one with a split, get into
this Diego series in good shape, feel good about it.

Speaker 6 (18:02):
You look at just how some guys have be able
to get some offensive production going, whether it was now
it's called Alex Freeland.

Speaker 5 (18:08):
Just how valuable can a.

Speaker 6 (18:10):
Series like this be for guys like that, especially as
you guys continue on the stretch.

Speaker 5 (18:14):
It's great.

Speaker 7 (18:15):
It's great for their confidence. Obviously. I think, you know,
Alex Call the last few games has really gotten back
to who he is as a player. There's less chase
and just the good at bats and putting the ball
in play and again playing good defense. And then with
Freeland just kind of finding finding some outfield grass and
he's been taking good swings. So today for him to

(18:36):
hit the triple, the double play good solid defense again,
so just good for their confidence.

Speaker 6 (18:42):
Seeing better results with Leland or is it sort of
something to change with the swing coming into this series
that's been leading to the better results this week?

Speaker 7 (18:50):
I think this series, I think for me, I've seen
a shorter swing, I've seen more controlled and he's using
the big part of the field again, and there's some
lineouts that he's had. But I thought that that quality
all series was fantastic. And again it was good to
see him get some hits, but I thank him. Controlling

(19:12):
the strike zone, swinging at strikes and hitting the ball
hard is a lot of good things obvious.

Speaker 1 (19:16):
So you've been changing it.

Speaker 4 (19:18):
Feel disappointed at all.

Speaker 5 (19:19):
It's sort of coming out of here with a split.

Speaker 7 (19:22):
I think it's just you know, it is what it is,
So yeah, if you know it is, but it's where
we're at right now, and I can't change it. So
I feel good about our club going into San Diego,
and you know, we got to go out there and
play good baseball.

Speaker 6 (19:35):
If you go to San Diego, I think if it's
sill the first place, but I think that he was
a little marrow or you know what happens today. Do
I feel like a missed opportunity or you're in first,
doesn't matter how many.

Speaker 7 (19:43):
Games, No, it's certainly. I mean, I wish we would
have won all four, but it just didn't happen. And
you know, they beat us two games pretty handedly, and
that's just the way baseball is. So we got to
go out there and you know, regardless of the standings,
we got to beat those guys.

Speaker 5 (20:00):
Do you have the lead you have with in the
mount two?

Speaker 1 (20:02):
Yeah?

Speaker 3 (20:02):
Yeah, No.

Speaker 7 (20:03):
I mean I think that we've obviously played well against
those guys this year, and they're going to give us
everything they have this weekend, and we got to be
ready for it getting there tomorrow.

Speaker 6 (20:16):
All right, show, Hey Otani, good to go. He'll be
in the lineup tomorrow for the Dodgers. Had a day
off today, as did Tae Oscar Hernandez, so neither one
of those two Dodger bats in the lineup, and the
Dodgers changing things around a little bit. That's why we
saw Michael Confordo batting cleanup, Freddie Freeman batting second, Mookie
Bets back at the lead off spot, and whn't you know,

(20:36):
Mookie Betts draws a lead off walk on five pitches
in the top half of the first inning, and then
the next pitch, Freddy Freeman turned it around for a
two run home run, his sixteenth of the season, and
the Dodgers two batters in a two to nothing lead
today over Chase Dolander and the Rockies, and the Dodgers
going to win it by final of.

Speaker 5 (20:53):
Nine to five.

Speaker 6 (20:54):
Clayton Kershaw, the thirty seven year old, continues to get
it done Friday night against the Padre.

Speaker 5 (21:00):
What did he do?

Speaker 6 (21:01):
Go out there, put up zeros and give the Dodgers
a chance to score some runs and get a victory.

Speaker 5 (21:05):
Today.

Speaker 6 (21:06):
Dodgers needed to win. There was no if sands or
butts about it. They needed to win this game. It
was a must win game at this point of the season.
And he went out there and pitched into the sixth
inning Dodgers game their early lead. Dodgers offense kept tacking
on runs and the defense was right behind him, playing
really good sound defense behind Clayton Kershaw, and they get

(21:28):
the win nine to five over the Rockies. By the way,
Dave Roberts did also say Tanner Scott will be activated
tomorrow night, so the Dodger left hander will be in
the Dodger bullpen for them coming off the injured list
and Kirby Yates, another Dodger closer, will be activated on Saturday.
So the bullpen starting to get back to full strength.
Still missing Michael Kopek, Bruce dar graderol, but starting to

(21:50):
feel good about where these guys are coming back healthy
down the stretch here in late August. Again, the Padres
won today. That means the Dodgers' lead remains at one
in the NL West as the Dodgers sit at seventy
three and fifty five on this season. San Diego one
game back and buckle up here we go. It's gonna
be a fun weekend series out at Petco Park in

(22:11):
San Diego. Hopefully Dodger fans will make the trek down
there somehow get into the ballpark, despite the fact they
closed out buying tickets from Dodger fans as they do
anybody from LA. They don't want down there, but make
the trek down there. Let's make that place Dodger Stadium
South this weekend Friday, Saturday and Sunday in this head
to head huge NL West showdown beginning tomorrow night. That's

(22:33):
gonna do it for Dodger Talk. Coming up next on
our flagship. You're Ambi seventy LA Sports.

Speaker 5 (22:37):
We got PMS. Petro's some Money show, Yes, you got Petros.

game the launching pad with Izzy in Anaheim.
