Speaker 1 (00:01):
One thing about this gene is the invisible and tangibles
that they have.
Speaker 2 (00:07):
This team is really becoming a family.
Speaker 1 (00:09):
Let's not play one on Tom. Let's wind it.
Speaker 3 (00:11):
I love writing these guys after the show. So just
thank you, give me are.
Speaker 4 (00:15):
Your attention, your fire and not a pisson.
Speaker 5 (00:17):
This is world champion, Dodgers, world champion.
Speaker 4 (00:21):
Put a small soft time they get up people. What
they want to die in a row two is special.
I'm like, yeah, it's not a headache one of them. Come,
this ball's gone. You ready to go?
Speaker 1 (00:32):
Sure, old time, go to.
Speaker 5 (00:34):
The sound grab your phone to get in on the
show called eight six six nine eighty seven two five seven.
I'll go to the show. And now your host of
Dodger Talk, Tim Kains.
Speaker 4 (00:45):
After one hundred and twenty nine games, the Dodgers and
Padres aren't time a topee n L West. Is the
Padres win Game one of this three game series. Tonight
at Pedcoll two to one is your final. Hi everybody,
and welcome to postgame Dodger Talk. You're on m FI seventy.
LA's sports phone lines were wide open eight sixty six
(01:08):
nine eighty seven two five seventy eight six six nine
sevent two, five seventy. Maybe you're too shy to pick
up the phone. You can tweet at me on x
at Tim Kates, Tim Cats. A lot to digest after
this game tonight. The Dodgers yesterday in Colorado erupted for
nine runs at cors Field. Granted, it's at altitude, it's Colorado.
(01:31):
We understand the ball flies and you score and bunches
up in Denver. But the Dodgers yesterday exploded offensively for
nine runs last night against the Colorado Rockies, nine runs
on twelve hits. They had a triples, home runs, doubles.
They absolutely torched the Rockies tonight. It was a pitchers
(01:53):
duel in San Diego between you, Darvish and Blake Snell,
and it lived up to the billing. You darbish a
week ago looked completely different than he did tonight. More
of speed pitches, more of his cutters, more of his sweepers,
more off balance swings from the Dodgers waiting for the fastball,
which he did not have control of last weekend at
Dodgers Stadium. Today at Peco Park, more offspeed pitches, got
(02:17):
ground ball outs, had a lot of one two three
innings against the Dodgers offense, and the only blemish against you,
Darvish was a solo home run by Alex Friedland in
the third inning. That was it. One hit, solo home run.
That was it. They had a walk, but that was
the only traffic on basis for you, Darvish for six
innings of work. Meanwhile, Blake Snell, he pitched good. It
(02:40):
kind of felt like he was working, you know, out
of the stretch a lot with runners on base, because
he was seven innings, two runs, six hits, five strikeouts.
He gave up a leadoff single in the first, a
leadoff single in the third, a leadoff walk in the fourth.
They came back to score on a leadoff single in
the fifth. Four straight. The leadoff batter got on base
(03:02):
with the padres. He got double play balls in the
second and the fifth to help him get out of that,
and then a boneheaded base running air by Loriano and
the third got out of it with Tatise up to
bat on a check swing strike three that was not
called the strike three Loriano thought it was, and the
Dodgers threw him out, tagged him out and into the inning.
(03:23):
But sack bunch leadoff guys getting on the Padres manufactured
both of their runs in the fourth inning, and what
was a one nothing Dodger lead, you felt go to the
blake Snell on the mound, a leadoff walk comes back
to bite them. Manny Machado RBI single, two batters later,
Bogart's with the sackfly and that was it. Grit really
(03:44):
good defense tonight. Cannot say enough about what the job
Mookie Betts did at shortstop, making several great defensive plays,
including that stop in the eighth inning on the rocket
hit by Manny Machatto, glove side up the middle, goes diving,
gets up, throws out Andy Machado, who's diving into first
base to try to beat the throw and get the
(04:04):
run from a rise to score to make it a
three to one to one Padres lead. Instead, great defensive play,
gets up, throws out Machado, run, can't score, and it
stays at a two to one game. The only problem
is the Dodgers' offense tonight was held in check six
innings by you Darvish. Jason Adam comes in pitches the
seventh inning. The eighth inning, the Dodgers had a golden
(04:26):
opportunity against Mason Miller, and say what you want about
Mason Miller, how dominant he has been. He has been.
The dude throws one hundred and three and one hundred
and four miles an hour. But when you got zero
command like he did tonight, he threw twenty pitches, eight
for strikes, you gotta make him work. You've got to
have him linger out there a lead off walk by
(04:48):
Michael Conforto, Austin Dean comes in and runs, but Andy
pat has a two to zero count after Conforto walked,
flew out to center field. Ian Steele's second, one out
tying run at second base, Alex Freeland walked a great
at bat, He saw all fastballs, all over one hundred
(05:13):
miles an hour, and Alex Freelan walked on five pitches.
You had runners at first and second. You have Mason
Miller on the hook feeling it can't throw strikes. Dalton
Rushing comes in to hit for Bubba Kennedy to to
two pitch fouls off a slot. Mason Miller had no
(05:35):
feel for his fastball. He threw five straight sliders to
Dalton Rushing to get to a two to two count,
and then on a fastball finally on the sixth pitch
of the bat, a fastball right down the middle of
the plate from Mason Miller, Dalton Rushing grounds into a
double play. Luisa rise to second, back to first base,
(06:01):
and that was it, a three to six to one
double play. The absolute thing you cannot do in that
situation if you're Dalton Rushing is hit into a double play.
Why you end the inning with show hey o'tani standing
in the on deck circle. You end the threat in
(06:21):
the eighth inning, which you finally mounted, tying run at
second base, one out, go ahead run at first and
you cannot hit into a double play, strikeout, flyout, do
what anything but hitting into a double play? Because you've
got the greatest player in baseball standing in the deck
(06:42):
circle who could change the game with one swing of
the bat. That's all it would take for him to
hit a ball one hundred and ten miles an hour
somewhere or over the fence for a home run. But
you leave him standing in the on deck circle. That
was a huge moment in this game. And you know
what this game felt like, sounded like, and looked like
(07:07):
a playoff game. Okay, I get it to Friday night.
It's August. This is a big series. They're tied now
a top the NL West. The crowd, the atmosphere, the
play of the game, the pitching performances, the lack of offense.
Really on both sides. For a lot of this game
felt like a playoff game. Low scoring, pitching dominated bullpens
(07:31):
come in shut down offenses like they did tonight. You
have to capitalize on any opportunity you have in a
game like this tonight. And you know who knew that,
Mike Shilt and the Padres. And I say this because
the third inning they're down one to nothing. Alex Freelan
(07:54):
just hit a home run, a leadoff single in the
bottom of the third inning for Loreano cronin Worth's bunting. Okay,
he's bunting to move the runner over. Didn't work. You
go to the fourth inning. Blake Snell walks Fernando to
tease Junior after an O two count walks him. Luis
(08:18):
a Rise who doesn't strikeout? Best strikeout ratio in baseball.
The guy is a hit machine. He's literally one of
the best hitters in baseball average wise. Puts the ball
in play, Luisa Rise, sack bunt? Are you kidding? Me,
one of the best hitters in baseball, sack bunt. They're
(08:43):
playing to tie, They're playing a low scoring game. It's
one nothing to tease, gets on best hitter in baseball.
Sack bunt Manny Machado, necks batter, singles in to tease,
manufacturerer run. Guys do their job. Pass it to the
next guy in the lineup, who does his job. Tied
(09:05):
one to one, oh Herding singles to write first and third,
still one out. Bogart's hit to sack fly Machado scorers
from third. All of that because of a sack bunt.
Passing it to Machado. Two batters later, Bogarts does his job,
and all of a sudden, the Dodgers are down two
to one. Now I bring that up because what happened
in the fifth inning, still a two to one lead
for the Padres. Cronin worst single to lead off the
(09:27):
fifth off, Blake Snell for me, sack bunt, Yes, I
sell like a broken record. The third, the fourth, the
fifth inning leadoff batters get on for the Padres, and
they sack bunt the guy to second base because they
understand runs are gonna be in a premium. This is
gonna be a low scoring game. This is a pitchers
(09:50):
duel with two guys going toe to toe inning for
innying against each other. Runs were going to be tough tonight,
and the Padres got it done when they needed to
the eighth inning. I'm not pilot on Dalton rushing by
any means. And you guys a young, good player. Hey,
sometimes in baseball stuff like that happens. You miss, you
(10:13):
know you don't. You don't barre up a ball like
you thought. You maybe hit it off the end of
the bat. You maybe don't hit it on the sweet
spot like you thought. You got jammed a little bit.
The pitcher gets the best of you. But in that situation,
anything but a double play ball, anything but a groundball
double play. And that's exactly what happened. You go to
the ninth thinning. We'll get to your phone calls in
(10:33):
a second. You get to the ninth inning and the
Dodgers again facing the bullpen, which is the big bad
bullpen for the Padres, which to me I wasn't overly
threatened by, especially Mason Miller. Hey, to me, Mason Miller
is mortal. Dude, throws one hundred and three one hundred
four cool had no command tonight. Dodgers didn't take advantage
(10:55):
of that ninth inning. Robert Swars, who, by the way,
the Dodgers got to Robert Swarrez last week. Get a
Dodger stadium, Colin, he's in here, mister Potts. I like,
I like the like the Dodgers' chances against Swors. I
do I think they can get to Swars You know what, Colin,
He was right, Hookie Betts one out single, two batters later,
Freddie Freeman with two outs singles to write, you've got
(11:16):
first and third. You're heard of your lineup? I mean
the ninth inning was Otani, Betts, Smith, Freeman, Hernandez Okay,
one run game, ninth inning. Who do I want up?
I don't know, top of the lineup and everybody below him,
and the Dodgers had exactly that in the ninth inning.
So if you're gonna call and say Dave Roberts didn't
(11:37):
do this, Dave Robers didn't do that. I'm sorry. Ninth inning.
The lineup flipped over after the double play ball in
the eighth for Otani to lead things off and almost
hit one out, just missed it. Will Smith struck out
with one out, and Will Smith does not look like
Will Smith of the first four months of the season.
(11:57):
By the way, Taascar Hernandez try got to the end
of game against Robert Swaz who threw a nasty pitch.
It was a nasty sinker, one hundred and one miles
an hour sinker. Are you kidding me? I mean we'll
see sinkers like ninety eight maybe, but a sinker one
on one, I mean, I don't know, that's pretty nasty.
And he swung over the top of it. Ballgame over.
(12:21):
My point is in a game like this, opportunities don't
come around a lot. Chances with runners on base don't
happen all the time in a game like this, in
a playoff type game, you cannot go up there thinking, hey,
it's all right, we'll get a next inning. Hey we'll
have another chance. You don't know if you get that
(12:43):
chance because of the bullpen of the Padres and what
the starting pitching did tonight. You darvish, You've got to
take advantages of walks of runners on first and second
one out, not into a double play. You've got to
take advantage of runners on base not striking out to
end the game. You have to take advantage of those
(13:06):
opportunities because they're not gonna be there all the time.
And what happens to to one game game took two
hours In like five minutes, I barely got here from
coast to Mesa with the petrols of money shop flying
up the five Freeway, hawking in people in downtown LA,
through the East LA Interchange, trying to get to the
Burbank studios, freaking out. Think I'm not gonna get there
in time. This game is flying and I'm sitting in traffic.
(13:30):
It's the sixth inning, it's the seventh inning. I'm like,
my gosh, what's happening. But the Dodgers could not take
advantage of those opportunities. Didn't have a lot, didn't have many,
didn't have a lot of chances with runners on base,
only four runners left, all four of those runners by
(13:50):
the way left in the eighth and ninth inning, only
zero for two runners in scoring position. Those are key moments.
So those are key moments that Dodgers couldn't have. Eight six, six, nine, seven,
two five seventy. I'm losing my voice, so it's time
for you to step in and lead this mark in
La your first up on Dodger Talk after the Padres
beat the Dodgers two to one, and don't look now
(14:11):
we're all tied in the division.
Speaker 6 (14:13):
Hey, calm down, you're as mad as I am. My beef,
I do have a beef with Roberts, but my beef
is they've got to get some Porto out there. Out
of there. They got to have somebody down on the
farm system that they can bring up that that's batting
more than their weight.
Speaker 4 (14:30):
Well, I'll tell you this. I sung Kim and Keithy
Hernandez both playing left field in minor league rehab starts.
So yeah, I mean, you look at what's happening. It
doesn't take a rocket scientist to say, well, you know what,
these guys are playing left field. Maybe they're playing left
field to get opportunities and reps in because they'll be
(14:52):
playing left field when they come back off the angel list,
which could be happening soon. Mark.
Speaker 6 (14:56):
But don't they have I mean, I'm not too much
on the up on the farm system, but don't they
have you know, another Alex Freeland or somebody down there
that you know, somebody's hitting the ball down there. I
know they got some guy that was hitting home runs
and everything down there, not on not on.
Speaker 4 (15:13):
The forty man roster. That's the problem. And I appreciate
the phone call, Mark, is that the forty man roster,
especially at this time of the year, is so tight
and the Dodgers are getting healthy and the Dodgers don't
mean you're talking about Ryan Ward, by the way, who's
who's got thirty one home runs. He plays first base
about jority of the time, so I don't know. I mean,
(15:36):
he can play a little bit of the outfield, I guess,
but I mean he's playing left field now, so he's
first basement by trade. But they put him in left field.
But it'd be tough to bring him up at this
point and ask him to be a savior in left field.
I mean, you have other options. Alex call could be
a good option in left field until Keiky a Hernandez
comes back, until Hay Sun Kims comes back. I mean,
(15:58):
there are options that the have outside of Ryan Ward,
who I know. This is like the third call I've
taken on Dodger Talk asking about Ryan Ward. I mean,
I love Ryan Ward. It's twenty seven. I do a
farm report on off night Dodger Talk, but I don't
think Ryan Ward's getting called up anytime soon to help
out this Dodgers team. Mike in Irwindale, right off the
(16:19):
six ZHO five there the two ten freeway. How you doing, Mike?
Speaker 2 (16:23):
I'm good, Dan, thanks for taking my call.
Speaker 7 (16:25):
Sure.
Speaker 2 (16:26):
Uh, first of all, are both in solid job? And
do you think when Kirby Yates fels are going to
get activated tomorrow, has then Riekids earned his spot to
stay up?
Speaker 4 (16:41):
I think so, I think so, Mike. I appreciate. I'm
curious to see what the Dodgers do when Kirby Yates
comes up tomorrow. Matt sour got sent down today for
the return of Tanner Scott. Now with Kirby Yates coming
back tomorrow off the injured list, I'm just to go
off the top of my head here, Uh, is Enriquez
(17:04):
the god man out? It would have to be, right
Looking at the current roster right now, I would think
Enriquez is probably because he's got options, you know, unless
tomorrow they go out and you know, sit Robleski, I
doubt that. Yeah, I mean, unfortunately, I think at Gardo Enriquez,
that's probably why he was out there today, knowing that
they're gonna need him to pitch tonight because they're gonna
(17:26):
get Kirby HS back tomorrow. So I think at Gardo
Enriquez is probably the odd man out right now, but
I don't think that's the look gonna be the last
we see of him, if indeed he is the one
that's get sent down. Uh Calvin in La, thanks for
being Pati. Your next up on Dodge Talk Padres defeat
the Dodgers two to one is we are tied now
atop the NLS.
Speaker 3 (17:45):
Thanks for taking my call first and foremost. I just
want to give props to Muki. He is just holding
it down as shortstop. He's making killer plays. That's our
short stop. I am more confident with him that short
than anyone else. And he's really produced at the plate again,
so that's that's really nice to see. I do want
to talk about uh Alan or Dalton Rushing and his
(18:10):
performance at the plate. I know he's a young guy,
he's a rookie. He's got a bright future, a lot
of potential, but I mean he's just not taking a
lot of good at bats lately. He's not producing. He's
hitting into a lot of double plays like we saw
to night, he's striking out. He was, he was, you know,
drawn some some good watch when he first came up,
(18:31):
but I haven't seen that as much as of late.
And you know, they're they're pinch hitting him in these
high liver situations and it hasn't really worked out. So
I'm you know, at this point in the season, are
they gonna have to start making decisions about, you know,
when to play him and to bring him in, you know,
(18:51):
maybe bringing Alex Call to to pinch it instead of
instead of rushing, or you know, on Wilson's Austine if
it's a close game and it's late, I mean, maybe
put Smiths in there, you know, and he can produce
it to plate a little bit.
Speaker 4 (19:07):
Yeah, it was in a matchup situation there, Calvin. They
wanted the left handed hitter up there, uh, in the
eighth inning against Mason Miller. So that's why you didn't
go to an Alex Call. You went with the left
handed bat in Dalton rushing. And that was a golden
opportunity for him to put his stamp on this game
and really put his stamp on something this season. He
(19:28):
was you know, two for three with a home run
in the series against the Angels a week ago, but
the Dodgers, you know, didn't see him play at all
against the Padres last weekend. He goes to Colorado, gets
you know, five at bats on Thursday and was zero
for five. You know, he got three at bats on
Monday and went oh for three with three strikeouts, even
(19:49):
though he had a sack fly. You know, it's it's
a tough stretch right now for Dalton Russia. I'm rooting
for him, you know, I'm not trying to pile on
the young man. Just it was a golden opportunity for
him to do anything but hit into a double play,
and that's unfortunately what he did. We'll take a quick
time out. We'll come back. We'll get to more of
your phone calls. We will hear from Tascar Hernandez Uh
(20:12):
Dodger right fielder who struck out the time run ninety
feet away in the ninth inning on a one hundred
mile an hour sinker from Robert Suarez as the Padres
hang on and beat the Dodgers out of Petco Park
two to one. We'll continue with postgame Dodger talk right
here on five seventy LA Sports Live everywhere on the
iHeartRadio app.

Speaker 4 (20:52):
The two one hit in the air, deep right field,
down the line, a Alick Freeland has his first Major
league home run just inside the right field pull. Welcome
to the show, Alex Freelan. He gives the Dodgers oh
(21:13):
one nothing League Alex Frielan his first home run in
the Big League, a solo shot in the third that
was the only Dodger offense all night. They lose to
the Padres by a final of two to one. Daniels

(21:35):
Daniels Jewelers Own the dream You. Darvish gets the win.
Blake Snell gets tagged with the loss despite seven innings,
two runs, six hits, five strikeouts through ninety seven pitches.
Robert Swarez comes in and closes it out. The Dodgers
had the time run at second the eighth and the
Dodgers had the time run thirty feet away or made
that ninety feet away, excuse me, in the ninth inning,
(21:57):
but could not score. They only had three hits the
entire game. Solomon Lake Balboa, Welcome to Dodger Talk. Solomon.
How you doing, buddy.
Speaker 1 (22:07):
I'm a good man. You know I had a tone
of surgery. So if I don't speak clearly, I apologize.
Speaker 4 (22:12):
Okay, all good.
Speaker 1 (22:14):
But good good, good boy. When you first came on, man,
you were channeled challenging talent. But I see I can't
speak with you when I were aligned. As far as
you know, how this game came down, the Dodgers did
did it again. They wasted a decent pitching performance. They
did it for Yosi the other night, and they did
(22:36):
it again for Blake Snow. We got one stinking run
top of the order, except for that ninethe inning was over.
They got zero, and that a living I stopped there
and I said the same thing that you used it
(22:58):
Darland Rusting. He looked, he looks like I kind of
get a hit I kind of do something you know
you don't. You can pop out, you could look at
a third strike even whatever you do, don't hit into
a double play. Yep, And what did you do?
Speaker 4 (23:15):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (23:15):
And that was the blown opportunity man right there. I said,
Oh my god, Like I said.
Speaker 4 (23:19):
Salomon, you don't get a lot of opportunities in a
two to one game like this, and a pitching performance
that you darbish had and even Blake Snell, you don't
get a lot of opportunities. I appreciate it. I hope
your tongue feels better, and I hope you can recover fast. Solomon.
Always great to hear your voice. You just don't get
a lot of opportunities, and because of that, you have
to take advantage of the chances you do get. And
(23:41):
tonight the Dodgers just couldn't do it. They were a
zero for two of the runners in scoring position and
had four runners on base that they stranded, two in
the eighth, two in the ninth. That was it. I mean,
I literally I was flying here, driving up from coast
to Mesa and the Petrol some Money summer tour that ended,
and I did the pregame show Dodgers on deck until
six thirty raced up here because this game was flying,
(24:03):
because the Dodgers lack of offense and really, for that matter,
Blake Snell dealing as well, even putting runners on to
lead off the third, fourth, fifth inning, was still able
to get out of it outside the third, the fourth
inning in which the Padres didn't manufacture two runs. Ken
in Newport Beach. I saw your tweets. Ken, I thought
you weren't going to call.
Speaker 7 (24:22):
I wasn't, but when you started to say you have
the sore throat that I was just gonna try to
help you.
Speaker 4 (24:26):
I appreciate it.
Speaker 7 (24:27):
And by the way, you were in close to Mason
and you didn't call me.
Speaker 4 (24:31):
I live in Newport, I know, I know, but it
was only down there for a few hours sweating it out.
You know, you live in Newport. You have great weather
all the time. It was like ninety degrees and hot
in coast to Maza today.
Speaker 7 (24:45):
Yeah, well, it's just one of the holler weekends and
have had this year. All right, let me let me
try to straighten something out of my little mind. Maybe
I'm wrong. We got to stop saying right hander left hander,
first off, you shouldn't play in Porto anybody, and that
fly ball and I went in front of him because
he went the wrong way. You could have caught it,
(25:06):
and I could have caught it. So now he can't
feel that he can't hit. Now let's get to Russian.
He's hitting one point eighty four. There's no way you
want him in there. And for anybody to say it's
because you don't want to have a call against the
right hander. His career average is two fifty four. Obviously,
that's more than Conforto sitting. That's more than Russian sitting.
(25:29):
That's more than Dave Roberts hitting in his career. You
put the guy who's the best hitter up right hand
or left hander, no ends, it doesn't matter. It was
just ridiculous. And looking at that, I called it like
two minutes before it, I go, you're gonna git a
double play. And just like I called that, ti Oscar
was going to strike out the third time that. You know,
(25:54):
we don't play small ball, but you got to play
stat ball and take the guy with the best bridge,
not right hand or left kender. That's what I think.
Speaker 4 (26:03):
Yep, all right, appreciate it. Can I don't can't argue
with a lot of what you said there. Alex Call
would have been a good decision. But then if he
if he gets out, maybe he hits into double play,
maybe he strikes out. Then the argument is, well, you
got a left handed bat and Dalton Russian just sitting there.
He's your top prospect. You didn't trade him for a reason.
I already see the od the argument coming. You know,
(26:24):
I'm here. I am just having all my own conversations
with myself left side of my brain, right side of
my brain, having arguments about, you know, the decisions made
or not made, because literally, if Alex Call would have
gotten out, I'd have three people on hold right now
in nine tweets saying why didn't you go to Dalton Russian?
You didn't trade him at the deadline because you want
to keep your top hitting prospects, your top catching prospects.
(26:47):
He's left handed, perfect guy off the bench, Yet that's
who they go to and it didn't pan out. So
Albert's in Westminster. I think I drove through Westminster today
at high speeds.
Speaker 1 (26:58):
Hey doing Albert, Hey Tim, how you doing?
Speaker 4 (27:01):
Man doing fantastic? How you doing it? And I a
little disappointed about the outcome tonight but you know what, tomorrow,
the Dodgers can bounce back and retake the league in
the division.
Speaker 6 (27:09):
One hundred percent.
Speaker 8 (27:10):
I think can also win the series, and yeah, stay
in the first place.
Speaker 7 (27:14):
It is awesome.
Speaker 4 (27:16):
So what did you think about the game tonight?
Speaker 1 (27:21):
I called it.
Speaker 8 (27:22):
I'm I'm calling in to have a positive, which is
Monky BET's defensive shortstop.
Speaker 1 (27:27):
In my opinion, it's one.
Speaker 8 (27:29):
Hundred percent his best game at shortstop since he's been
a Dodger, well actually since the last year, so because
he played short stop last year as well, and in
my opinion, I think that tonight was his best game
at shortstop overall.
Speaker 7 (27:45):
He had a couple.
Speaker 4 (27:48):
Hello, Hello, go ahead, you still got you all right, Albert?
I think we lost you there. Maybe the bluetooth popped
out or sounds like somebody picked up the line old
you know you're on the phone when you're young, Colin,
you're too young to remember this, But there used to
be like phones plugged into the wall, and if you're
on the phone, and there was multiple phones in the house,
and like somebody picked up another phone in the house,
(28:10):
Get off the phone, I'm on the phone right now,
sort of a thing. So we go to Ray and
Georgia Ray. Welcome to Dodger Talk. How you doing?
Speaker 7 (28:19):
Thumbs up?
Speaker 6 (28:19):
Tim?
Speaker 9 (28:20):
Listen all I want to say, thanks for taking my call. Second,
why in the world here, why did we not sacrifice
put Rojas up to sacrifice.
Speaker 10 (28:33):
Mooki and free Conforto and Freeland over and they would
have walked o Tawny And how many times had Mookie
that's come up and got to hit in those situations?
And sure enough we got to hit the next inning.
But what I'm saying is all it had to do
was Karra bunked over. You knew that there's a possibility
(28:54):
of rushing hitting into a double play, and double play
that was a back to second to back to first.
That's a long double play. And he's a catcher. He's
not gonna be running down there. Why did he not bunt?
Speaker 4 (29:10):
Well? I think in that situation with one out, and
I appreciate the phone call, you're hoping he puts the
ball in play somewhere and with one out if you
bring in Miguel Rojas, just a bunt of runner over
first off, He's got to get the bunt down and
move both runners over. Okay, it has to go perfect
and the Dodgers are not a really great bunting team.
We can all make that, you know, case right, and
agree that being said that that guarantees you, though that
(29:34):
you do get to Otani at least with runners on
base and two outs. But I don't know. With one out,
if there was nobody out, certainly that's a bunting situation. Absolutely,
But with one out, pinchin or Dalton Rushing got power
get hit to the gaps. I've just watched the replay
of the ground ball. Sworez is playing back at first Okay,
(29:56):
he's playing back behind the bag deep at first base.
He hit dult Rushing left tended bat, hits it to Swarez,
a sucupit toal Rise. A Rise goes to second, back
over to Swarez who's covering Mason Miller, who's covering first
base for the double play, and dult Rushing didn't beat
(30:16):
it out. Again, it was a hard hit ball, but
the first baseman's playing back, I don't know, maybe he
beats it out. I don't know. As it is, it's
just you can't hitto a double play. That's as simple
as that. You also can't get an opportunity that The
Dodgers had runners on first and third time, running ninety
feet away, and Taskar Hernanis for the third time strikes
out to end the game. Let's go back out to
(30:37):
Petko Park. David Vat saying the media talking with.
Speaker 11 (30:40):
Tasker Tai Lea was darvish so good. Is he the
type of guy that you have to jump all over
early or it could turn into what it did.
Speaker 12 (30:49):
Man, he was I don't think he missed many pitches
over the plate. He was hitting every corner he was making.
He was making a lot of pitches for him, good
pitches for him. You know, we tried to put the
ball and play. We tried to attack him earlier, but
it didn't happen. So it's one of those days that
you just have to to be.
Speaker 11 (31:08):
The cut did the strike zone in the ninth and
ain't affect the way the outcome of that at bat
went for you, not really.
Speaker 12 (31:17):
You know, it was tough Pitchess. Tried to put the
ball in play, it didn't happen. It's like I said,
he made really good pitches and not a bad and
struck me.
Speaker 2 (31:28):
It's overall mood in the clubhouse, just knowing what's at
stake in this series.
Speaker 12 (31:33):
I mean it just you know, obviously we're fighting for
the division, but this one is in the house. We're
gonna continue to work hard, come here tomorrow and try
to win the challenging He is dirivision with as many
pitches as he has in his mix. It's it's really
not hard, but it's difficult. You know, you know, you
(31:54):
don't know where to look, you don't know what pitch
to look for.
Speaker 4 (31:57):
Uh.
Speaker 12 (31:58):
He was using all the pitches today, hitting the spot,
the corner. It's pretty good and we do all of it.
So it's like one of those days that you just say, Okay,
I'm gonna try, I'm gonna try to blootbolt and play
see what happens, to see something good happen. So for
us didn't happen today, But it's more we got another sense.
Speaker 4 (32:16):
He's absolutely right. Dodgers lose two to one of the Padres.
Nothing you can do do about it. Now, you gotta
move forward and you got to bounce back tomorrow. Can't
feel sorry for yourselves. Gotta get ready. Even though it's
just start a three game regular season series in San Diego,
there's a lot riding on this game. The Dodgers could
take the lead again and then go into Sunday's game
with you worst case being back in the tie. Best
(32:37):
case scenario up towo games in the division, so a
lot can happen in the next two games. You lose
the opener on Friday and night at Petgo Park, tight
game pitching duel between Blake Snell and you darbish. All right,
you get ready for the next day and tomorrow. The
Dodgers got Tyler glassw on the maunt against Nest Cortez.
Who the Dodgers can get after the on Sunday. Yoshinovu Yamamoto,
(32:58):
the right guy, right place, right time on Sunday in
the finale. That's gonna do it. For postgame Dodger Talk,
