Speaker 1 (00:01):
One thing about this gem is the invisible and tangibles
that they have.

Speaker 2 (00:07):
This team is really becoming a family.

Speaker 3 (00:09):
Let's not play one on Tom.

Speaker 4 (00:10):
Let's wind it.

Speaker 5 (00:11):
I love writing me these guys after the show.

Speaker 2 (00:13):
So just thank you, give me are.

Speaker 6 (00:15):
Your attention, your fire, not a piss.

Speaker 7 (00:17):
This is world champion, Dodgers, world champion.

Speaker 8 (00:21):
Put a small soft time they get up people what
they want to die to in a row two is special.
I'm like, yeah, it's not a headache.

Speaker 9 (00:28):
One of a con.

Speaker 8 (00:30):
This ball's gone. You ready to go?

Speaker 3 (00:32):
Sure?

Speaker 8 (00:33):
Hell old time to the sound, grab your phone to
get in.

Speaker 7 (00:36):
On the show called eight six six nine eighty seven
two five seven and go to the show. And now
your host of Dodger Talk, David Basset.

Speaker 9 (00:47):
We are alive at Dodgers Stadium after the Dodgers return home,
but the offense still struggling a three to two loss
to the Saint Louis Cardinals. Tonight eight six six seven
two five seventy is the phone number. David vasse with
you until eleven o'clock tonight eight six six nine eight

(01:08):
seven two five seventy is the phone number we will
hear from Tyler Glass. Now who pitched really well tonight
when seven innings allowed just a solo home run to
Mason Win. We will hear from Jose Moda a little
bit later, but just the story of the last few

(01:29):
nights and maybe now the season. Mookie Betts continuing to
struggle OH for four tonight, he is now OH for
his last twenty. Lars Noubar it made MOOKI probably have
a sleepless night tonight with an amazing catch uh in
the ninth inning, which would have put Otani probably at

(01:51):
second base, maybe at third base with nobody out instead.
Now Bar made an incredible catch in fair terror toy
to rob Betts of a base head and also really
stemy the Dodger rally. In the ninth inning, Will Smith
took a walk. Max Muntsey hit a line drive right

(02:11):
on the money, but right at Lars Noubar to end
the game. And it was great to see Max Munsey
back at third base. He is a difference maker in
this lineup. He was hitting sixth behind Will Smith tonight,
actually fifth tonight behind Will Smith. Also good to see
Taoscar Hernandez contribute. He had a big double to lead

(02:32):
off the eighth inning. His run came around to score
to tie the game. But let's just start with Mooki
and look, kudos to the Dodger fans tonight who really
did come out and show out for Mookie Betts giving him.
I wouldn't say it was Philly esque of a standing ovation,
but it was heard and I'm sure Mooki felt it.

Speaker 8 (02:56):
It was great.

Speaker 9 (02:57):
In the third inning when he came back up to
the plate, there was a louder let's go Mookie chant,
But obviously Mookie's gotta be the guy to do it.

Speaker 8 (03:06):
And right now it's just not going his way.

Speaker 9 (03:08):
It just doesn't seem like the ball's coming off his
bat with any authority, whether it's in the air or
a line driver on the ground, it just doesn't seem
like he has the strength and the ball's not coming
off his bat.

Speaker 8 (03:23):
And for whatever reason, that's the case.

Speaker 9 (03:27):
And Mooki is a guy that has put in a
lot of work, maybe too much work, you know. I
suggested on the road trip, how about lock the batting cage.
Don't let this guy in there for three hours. You
talk about shortstop wearing him down. How about being in
the cage every day for two or three hours and
then having to go out and play shortstop and then

(03:48):
try to hit in a two and a half three
hour game, especially in the heat the Dodgers were in
on that last road trip. I've you know, I've talked
to a lot of hitting coaches and a lot of players.
You stay in the cage that long, you may even
hit yourself into a slump. That's not always the answer,
and that may have worked for Mooki in the past,

(04:09):
it obviously is working against him right now, and you
know it's unfortunate, but I did love the Dodger fans
responding and coming out and showing him support. Here's what
Mookie Bets had to say after yesterday's game, where he
obviously did not get a hit but had a sacrifice fly.

Speaker 6 (04:29):
I've done everything possible. I mean, I'm hitting all day
every day. I'm hitting after games in the cage early.
I don't really know what else to do. You know,
I don't have any answers.

Speaker 4 (04:43):
Switching the batting order, who's in.

Speaker 5 (04:46):
Dave's trying to spark something, but does.

Speaker 6 (04:49):
It No, I mean obviously not. You know, it's kind
of the same results. So again, man, I'm out of answers.
I've on everything I can humulate, possible, possible, possibly do
so I mean, I just it's up to God at
this point, I don't know anybody in the world that

(05:10):
would have confidence.

Speaker 8 (05:13):
In the stretch.

Speaker 6 (05:14):
That's what's going on. So I don't you know, it
goes up and it goes down, and just confidence level
doesn't really matter. I mean, it's just you got to
go and do the move whatever, whatever it is that
you worked on. I'm just believe in it. And it
doesn't work, then go back to the drawing board. But

(05:35):
you know it it helps. I'm sure it does help
to have confidence, but it also sucks when you have
confidence and then you go, you know, don't get stuff done.
So again, I don't have any more answers.

Speaker 9 (05:49):
All right, there's Mookie Beds from yesterday tonight oh for four.
He's oh for his last twenty. And look the Dodger
offense sputtering here in the second half of the season
is in all on Mookie Betts. Taoscar Hernandez is hitting
two twenty since May one. There's an argument to be
made outside of Freddie Freeman and Will Smith, the guy

(06:10):
that's having the best at bets these days is Michael Conforto,
so you're not getting a lot from Taoscar Hernandez.

Speaker 8 (06:18):
Andy Pajez is kind of in a little bit of
a cold spell.

Speaker 9 (06:22):
He hit the ball hard tonight in the eighth inning,
one hundred and two miles an hour, and that created
the tying run in the eighth inning. Miguel Rojas, in
the last thirty games he's played, is hitting over three hundred. Tonight,
he was zero for three in the ninth spot. But
you're not getting a lot of contributions outside of a
couple of guys. It was encouraging to see Taoscar Hernandez

(06:44):
hit a leadoff double in the eighth inning. It is
great to have Max Munsey back in the starting lineup.
That is going to change things, and he has certainly
been missed for the last month. But it can't just
be all on Freddy O'tani and Will's. The Dodgers are
going to need Mooki Bets. They are going to need him.
They don't need MVP Mookie Bets, but they just need

(07:07):
a somewhat productive Mookie Bets. And if I'm talking to
Mookie Bets, I'm telling him tomorrow forget about what your
season totals are you have to ignore what you see
on those big boards as far as your batting average,
your ops. It's gotta be zero opening day numbers starting tomorrow,

(07:28):
and that's the way he's got to approach it. But
I can't explain if MOOKI can't explain it, how can
I explain it? Eight six six nine eight seven two
five seventy is the phone number. Let's go out to
Justin and Santa Monica. You're on Dodger Talk live from
Dodger Stadium. Hi, Justin, Justin, you're on the air.

Speaker 2 (07:47):
Oh yeah, yeah, I'm hearing the radio. That's why I
can't really hear you. Oh they should taking my call.
So a couple of things I wanted to just chat about.
One's I mean, yes, the strike zone was awful tonight
and the question I am it's like Roberts kind of
like moped about it in the post game, but with
the team overall playing pretty lethargically, it would be maybe

(08:09):
something for him to show a little more fight about
with him. And then the second thing is to talk
about with me.

Speaker 9 (08:15):
He was saying he was barking at the home play
at umpire. Are we chatting or are you just talking
at us. If we're chatting, we'll have a back and
forth conversation.

Speaker 5 (08:23):
Justin really see like a lot of that.

Speaker 9 (08:27):
I guess you're just talking at us. All right, thank
you for the phone call. Justin well, number one, I'll
talk at you now.

Speaker 8 (08:33):
Number one.

Speaker 9 (08:34):
Dave Roberts was letting the home play at umpire Ramon
Dejeseus know about it, and he was letting Adrian Johnson
know about it. When Mason Winn definitely offered at a
pitch from Brock Stewart in the ninth inning, he did
not call that he swung. He said he checked his swing.
I think everybody in the stadium disagreed with Adrian Johnson.

(08:57):
But like I said earlier, Tyler now is not an
easy guy to catch, and I thought Will Smith was
jerking his min around too much and it was messing
Ramon DeJesus up.

Speaker 8 (09:09):
Early in the game.

Speaker 9 (09:11):
You know, there were several instances that were borderline pitches
where if Will Smith just gives a stick where he
doesn't really move his glove, just presents the pitch, there's
a better chance of getting that borderline call. But in
that ninth inning, the Dodgers could have got out of
that inning, if rock Stewart had a little bit more

(09:33):
awareness of what was going on. I'm not sure if
the infielders were yelling at him.

Speaker 8 (09:38):
They obviously were because he stepped off when Lars Newpar
left early, and instead of, you know, instinctually throwing to
first base, get it to somebody, he just stood there
and stared at second base while Newbar was in no
man's land. He could have got Newpar out and then
he gets Mason win out. Inning over. You don't even

(09:59):
get to a a guy named Joel Pozo to hurt you.
That was on brock Stewart. I don't know.

Speaker 9 (10:06):
Seemed like the game got a little bit too fast
on him in that moment. But yeah, disappointing first night
back in a Dodger uniform for brock Stewart. In the
ninth inning, disappointing pitch selection and execution by Anthony.

Speaker 8 (10:19):
Banda, who gave up a home run to Evon.

Speaker 9 (10:22):
Herrera, and the Dodgers go down to the Cardinals tonight
three to two, collecting only three hits, one of them
a home run from Freddie Freeman, who continues to be
the hottest Dodger in the lineup on the road trip.
Freddie Freeman hit four h five in nine games and
had two home runs and nine RBIs. He tied the
score in the fourth inning with a solo home run

(10:44):
off of Sonny Gray, who obviously has the Dodgers' number
because he shut him out for six innings in Saint
Louis earlier this season, and the Dodgers didn't make any adjustments.
It seemed like tonight in their approach against Sonny Gray.
He held him down for one run in seven innings.
Eight six, six, nine, eight seven two five seventy is

(11:05):
the phone number. It was good to see Tyler Glass
Now bounce back from a disappointing start in Cincinnati where
he only went four innings and gave up four runs. Tonight,
Glass now had the fastball velocity. Seemed like he was
struggling a bit early on with his fastball command, but
hung in there and lasted seven innings. Let's head downstairs

(11:27):
right now to the Dodger Clubhouse to hear from Glass
Now on sports net LA.

Speaker 10 (11:32):
Yeah, I think just beginning on, didn't really feel in rhythm,
just going a little too slow, just trying to be
nice and easy and trying to find it. And I
think just talking to pryor a little bit, just going
back out and getting quicker, just getting my pace up
a little bit more. It felt a lot better after,
like third ish started feeling.

Speaker 3 (11:50):
Good in the third day.

Speaker 11 (11:51):
Diould You also find just kind of with your pitches,
like seemed like even more a listening early in the game.

Speaker 4 (11:55):
You didn't really have the breaking stuff, but that sorted
to come as the game went on.

Speaker 10 (11:58):
Yeah, I think in the passing time, I don't have it.
I kind of just get away from it. And I
think even when it was uncomfortable trying to throw it
and get into a rhythm, and I think each inn't
it just got better and better.

Speaker 3 (12:06):
And then.

Speaker 10 (12:08):
Yeah, by the end of it, it felt really good.

Speaker 2 (12:11):
Two of your last three outings have been just lights
out and you've got nothing to show up.

Speaker 8 (12:15):
I think you have eight no decisions. Is that frustrating?

Speaker 10 (12:17):
No, it's just it's baseball. Once, it just happened. Some
years it's everything's in your favor. Sometimes it's not, and
it's not really Yeah, but.

Speaker 2 (12:25):
I mean it seems like there's nothing more you can do.

Speaker 11 (12:27):
You're lights out.

Speaker 10 (12:29):
Yeah, I don't know if it like like wins and loss,
I just think about the end of the day. I
just want to win, you know, and I think we're
just kind of in a little We're better now, we're
in a little rut. But I don't think like personally
the win loss is like a huge, huge deal. I
just want to win games. I guess, yeah, yeah, yeah,
terribus take kind of like the study.

Speaker 9 (12:47):
Now you can kind of recalibrate and kind of fix
things of game and make good adjustments.

Speaker 10 (12:52):
Uh, what do you mean in terms of like, like
you know, kind of think Yeah. I think like just
having the conversation with with prior, just trying to get
back to kind of going a little quicker. I just
think I was late and nothing felt really good in
the zone. My release point was really inconsistent, and I
think just going quicker pace got my arm to move
a little quicker and then everything just started to go.
It's kind of depends on the start, but that was

(13:13):
what helped today.

Speaker 9 (13:15):
Tyler glass Now, when seven innings tonight, gave up a
home run to Cardinals shortstop Mason win in the second inning.
That was the only run glass Now gave up in
seven innings. He threw one hundred and one pitches tonight,
forty three of those was his four seen fastball. He
threw his curveball and slider twenty times tonight and mixed
in his two seamer, that sinker that he has said

(13:38):
that he relies upon when he doesn't feel like he
has great command or he needs to turn to a
reliable pitch, that's the one he goes to. But obviously
the other stuff started to work for him after the
fourth inning more consistently. Eight six six nine, eight seven
two five seventy is the phone number Omar in Long Beach.

Speaker 8 (13:58):
You're on Dodger Talk.

Speaker 12 (13:59):
How you doing, Hey, David, Hi, Omar, Hey, So I'm
getting h I'm getting the audio on my end here.

Speaker 9 (14:19):
I don't know what to tell you. Maybe Colin could
work that out with you. Eight six six nine eight
seven two five seventy is the phone number Colin. Let's
check on these calls, let's see what they're what's going
on with them before we go back out. But you know,
when you look at the Dodgers right now, it's kind
of ironic how they're starting. Pitching has gotten healthy all
of a sudden now, and now the offense is sputtering.

Speaker 8 (14:41):
And also they've had injuries. Key injuries to their bullpen.

Speaker 9 (14:46):
Blake Trenton just finally got back, but Tanner Scott and
Kirby Yates are on the injured list. They lost Evan
Phillips for the entire year. Tanner Scott and Kirby Yates
were two of their higher price signings to help this
bull during the offseason, and both guys are on the
il for different reasons right now. And you're waiting for

(15:07):
Michael Kopek to get back. He's actually on the way back.
He threw a bullpen session the other day. He's throwing
another one tomorrow, so that's encouraging. But right now it
feels like the Dodger bullpen on August third is unsettled
because of injuries and ineffectiveness. I think you could confidently

(15:30):
say the Dodger reliever that you feel the most comfortable
with bringing into a game.

Speaker 8 (15:36):
These days is Alex Vesia. Also Jack Dryer.

Speaker 9 (15:40):
Also Ben Casparius has come out on the other end
after you know, having a couple of shaky performances, and
I'm still a believer right now with trying and still
trying to find his way back, that Casparius and Vessia
would be your two best options of getting the final
four outs, final three outs. You Casparius yesterday come in

(16:02):
with two outs in the ninth inning in a very
hot and humid environment, bases loaded momentum on the Ray's
side to get the final out of the game. So
I'm still a big believer in Ben Casparius, and I
had a chance to talk to Blake Trinan about his
first two outings after yesterday's game. He has left his
first two outings with the bases loaded, once in Cincinnati,

(16:24):
the last yesterday in Tampa.

Speaker 1 (16:27):
Actually felt really good. Results aren't really matching the way
this stuff is in my opinion. Obviously, I'm having way
longer counts than I should. That parts the frustrating part
is I've had worse stuff and left more pitches over
the middle and had quicker results for zeros and what
I've been getting right now. And it's just a matter
of getting ahead and being comfortable, and I probably just

(16:53):
need to see a zero at some point versus giving
up a couple walks because I can't put guys away
when I'm ahead, you know, the whole first batter thing
has to change. So it's like two of my three Actually,
I think all three of my outings. Now, first guy's
gotten on, maybe even via the water, so that's gonna stop.

Speaker 10 (17:08):
Stuff seems fine yet, Well.

Speaker 8 (17:10):
That's the good news.

Speaker 9 (17:11):
Blake Trening is feeling good after these outings as far
as physical goes, but understands that he's got to throw
strikes and the sweeper just hasn't been the same for
strikes so far. Fastball Command has been in and out consistently.
But Blake Trendon's a veteran. He knows how to recalibrate himself.

(17:31):
He's been out for quite some time. It hasn't gone
the way that he would like it to go. But
obviously he's a guy that doesn't lose composure and can
evaluate himself really well. Eight six six nine seven two
five seventy is the phone number. We're gonna take a
time out here on Dodger Talk. When we come back,

(17:52):
we'll see if the phones are fixed. If not, we'll
check in with Jose Mota, who also has to call in,
so we'll see where we go. But we'll have a
chain us to catch up with Blake snow or we
did earlier today. We'll share his thoughts on his first
outing since April second pitch well in his first start
this past Saturday. He'll do it again this Saturday against
the Blue Jays at Dodger Stadium. Cardinals beat the Dodgers

(18:16):
tonight three to two on a five to seventy LA Sports.

Speaker 7 (18:26):
Dodger Talk is available on AM five seventy LA sports

Dodger Talk with Dodger insider David Basset.

Speaker 8 (18:38):
I'm trying to figure out how that worked. Two hs
swing on a drill deep to right field back it goes.

Speaker 9 (18:44):
This part is god, It's a home run car Freddie Freeman,
he times the game. Will there's thirteenth home run of
the year. Freddie Freeman continues to swing a hot fat. Unfortunately,
the Dodge can only muster two other hits and they
go down to the Cardinals tonight by a final score

(19:05):
of three to two. Daniels Jewelers presents the home run Forecast.
Go to AM five to seventy lasports dot com. Use
the keyword home run for your chance to win a
fifty dollars Daniels Jeweler's gift card predicting the number of

(19:26):
seventy is the phone number. We will check in with
jose Mota in a moment, but first we want to
get to the calls. I think we have fixed whatever
was ailing, the new so called quote fix our engineers
tried to make earlier.

Speaker 8 (19:39):
Today. Let's go out to Riverside. Doug, you're on Dodger Talk.
How you doing, Doug.

Speaker 11 (19:45):
It's a pleasure to talk to you.

Speaker 8 (19:46):
Indeed, hey, glad, we got it all worked out. What
do you have to say?

Speaker 11 (19:52):
Well, I don't know the regulations on the bats, but
I've done on the ones where Clant and Alana and
Day and all these other guys on there. I keep
putting the same thing.

Speaker 5 (20:03):
I guess they're not getting the mess of to Luky,
I go. All he has to do is go to
a lighter bat.

Speaker 11 (20:08):
He's worn out. He can't square that ball up. So
if he goes to a ladder. I know that for
because I listen to seven to ten because I'm I'm
a Laker fan too. But John Ireland give some research.
He swings a thirty three thirty three length thirty one
and a half ounce back. I don't know if they

(20:28):
regulate that that that's what the minimum is. But if
he goes another ounce below that, he'll be able to
not only watch the ball go on the zone, he'll
be quicker through the zone.

Speaker 9 (20:39):
All right, Well, I know John Ireland played Sunday softball
back in the day, but it's a little bit more
advanced these days.

Speaker 8 (20:47):
I'll just give you a quick summary on it.

Speaker 9 (20:49):
The Dodgers have the technology to be able to fit
a player with the bat that is customized to them
and their swing.

Speaker 8 (20:59):
At this point in time.

Speaker 9 (21:01):
They actually did it for Michael Conforto, who I guess
you could say is swinging a lighter bat, but not really.
It's just more evenly distributed in his bat and that's
been a big reason why he has been able to
have a better chance at catching up at fastball.

Speaker 8 (21:17):
So I understand what you're saying.

Speaker 9 (21:19):
Maybe it's time for the Dodgers to hook Mookie Bets
to all that if he's open to it. You know,
guys have swung the same bat for a very long time,
and a guy that is as successful as Mookie Bets
has been a lot of times, they don't want to
make a switch especially at this point in time in
the season. But for me personally, it's not about the

(21:40):
bat size. It could be, but more importantly, if Mookie
Bets is swinging in the batting cage right now, that's
not to me going to help him. I feel like
at this point in time it's working against him. Let's
try Omar on Long Beach again. Hi, Omar, You're on
Dodger Talk.

Speaker 4 (22:00):
Hey David, nice to talk to you again.

Speaker 13 (22:02):
First of all, I want to say thank you for
the tickets for tonight. It was awesome.

Speaker 4 (22:06):
I appreciate that a lot.

Speaker 13 (22:08):
But I want to talk about Brock Stewart's return and
and Anthony Bonda just not great tonight and not getting
any help from home plate Umpire DeJesus.

Speaker 4 (22:21):
Tonight, who was horrible.

Speaker 13 (22:24):
But I think for me, the most frustrating play of
the game was watching brock Stewart become completely frozen when
Lars Newbar was halfway up, halfway to second.

Speaker 9 (22:37):
Yeah, I know that was a little surprising to me.
Like I said, it feels like the game got a
little too fast on Brock. Obviously he was aware Runner
was in a mode where he could have been put
into a pickle, could have been picked off because he
stepped off. He stepped off the rubber, but you know,

(22:57):
never reacted, just stared out at second base and Miguel
Rojas is motioning, Hey, the guy was off first base.
He should have thrown it. But you know, it was
Brock's first appearance. I could understand how the game got
a little fast on him tonight. You just hope that
things get a little bit more comfortable for him in
this role on this team and doing what the Dodgers

(23:20):
expect out of him. And he'll he'll handle it. He'll
handle it. He knows what to expect in this environment.
Thanks for the phone call, Omar, and I'm glad you
made it to the game tonight.

Speaker 13 (23:30):
Thanks again.

Speaker 4 (23:31):
Nice to chat with me, all right, good.

Speaker 8 (23:33):
To chat with you to Omar.

Speaker 9 (23:35):
Eight six six nine eight seven two five seventy is
the phone number speaking up Miguel Rojas. This Saturday, August ninth,

Superior Grocers in Huntington Park, located at sixty ten Pacific Boulevard.

Speaker 8 (23:56):

to noon, Dodger Talk ten to noon from Superior Grocers

(24:24):
and Huntington Park.

Speaker 8 (24:25):
All right, let's check in with Jose Moda.

Speaker 7 (24:28):
It's tough to go around the horn with Jose Mota.

Speaker 9 (24:33):
All right, Jose Mota, Let's start with Mookie Betts. He
obviously is a person of interest these days. The fans
showed him a lot of love, but unfortunately Lars Noobar
made an incredible catch in the ninth inning tonight.

Speaker 4 (24:49):
It's tough to see that happen when you know you're
pushing for a guy like Monkey and begging for him
to get a basic just to get his confidence up.
And I think listening to his words, you can see
where he's confidence is. It's not exact right now, and
you know everybody's the game has gone through that. And
like Mookie, as you know quite well that you talked
to him so many times. He takes a lot of
pride in being on top of his game. I'm being great.

(25:11):
It's not happening right now, and you know it. It's
clear that there's a lot of pressure, and there's a
couple of points that you made that are very important.
There comes a point where, now you're in the month
of August, we have to back off a little bit.
And the more you try to find answers, the more confused.
Sometimes you can get not saying. That's the case with MOOKI,
but it does happen.

Speaker 3 (25:32):
Number two is you.

Speaker 11 (25:32):
Gotta remember who you are.

Speaker 4 (25:34):
And as easy as that sounds, it's like, go out
there and watch highlights of doing great. I mean that's
something sometimes the best teaching and rock crew used to do.
Just watch success videos of yourself just doing well and
just get that feeling, you know, get that vibe and
get that vision in you to know that it's still there.

(25:56):
And on top of all this, you know, shorttum demands
all a lot, and I remember going through this with
Mickey Hatcher. You know what it came to mind, Mickey
Hatcher and Albert Pooles and Pools came to the Angels
and it's like here, I'll take two hundred swings every day,
and at one point Mickey goes, you know it's June.
You don't need three hundred swings every day. I think
your best wings are being left in the cage, and
we don't want your best wings in the cage. Your
best one to be in the game. We only need

(26:18):
five of them every single game. And that comes to
a point where you have to really just as a manager,
step up and say this what we think you need
to do. You do need to show anybody, anybody else
what you do, because we know that you work and
you're doing it and you're smart. So there's a lot
of combinational things about I think moving him down to
the order would not be a bad idea.

Speaker 8 (26:35):
Right now, Jose.

Speaker 9 (26:38):
Another Dodger that's been struggling since May first, ta Oscar
Hernandez sitting two twenty, coming into the game since May first,
came up with a big leadoff double in the eighth inning.
Should I get overly excited over that? Is Tao back
after that?

Speaker 8 (26:54):
Or should we just hold our breath? What do you
believe after seeing that double in the eighth inning?

Speaker 4 (26:59):
It it's encouraging to see where the ball went. He
had not hit the ball that hard that way in
a long time. And I think, and going back to
talking to to Oscar, you know, this week, and he's
trying to find a better base obviously because he knows that,
you know, with a leg injury and being up and
down and the strength and inflexibility is that hasn't been
that easy with a weight transfer. But we hope that,

(27:20):
Uh it's a good sign. I think pitch selection becomes
an issue, the same thing with Shry, the same thing
with the mookie bets and guys when pitches of a
just not not being handled right. For to Oscar, a
guy doesn't need to overswing. A guy who knows how
to use hit the ball the other way. More of
those fat balls the other way, I think would be
very helpful for from the stayings to the ball and
know that he still has it too, because these guys

(27:41):
need to carry the load and right now, uh, what
happens when they don't. It's just very stressful to find
a win and you're depending a lot on the pitching,
which is great, but at the same time, it's like
you want to be able to have that margin for
your bullpen when they come into make sure that you
get a w hose.

Speaker 9 (27:56):
One thing's for certain. The Dodger rotation is healthy again
with kershaw Yamamoto, Snell Glass. Now you know, the starters
are going to keep you into games, and I guess
that's gotta be the most encouraging part for the Dodgers.

Speaker 8 (28:09):
Runs are going to be at a premium for the opponent.

Speaker 4 (28:13):
Yes, and then you know, do the combination of the
starters getting something to work with early versus not and
then making every pitch count so much and then they
end up making more mistakes. So it's a combination of
you know, a balance that you need. You got to
go out there and play baseball, Michael going forward to
today bad that you needed to have and that if
it's what the Dodgers need to do more of, but

(28:34):
not until the eighth. They need to do it early
because it's contagious. When you start doing little things like that,
you start getting rewards. It's great to slug, but slugging
is also a byproduct of doing things the right way
and being involved in the process. And we're going to
find a guy that you wear down as a pitcher
to make more mistakes and you know, mistakes are not
being punished right now, which is something the teams go through,

(28:56):
but it's quite a long time. So I think simplifying
your game and not even think bus logging, but just
having good swings is going to get it done. But
I think just playing baseball from the beginning and managers
taking sometimes their hands and say, hey, uh, when he
let's let's go out there and just be a scrappy
team for this week and let's see what happens. You know,
have a different mentality, different mindset because things we know

(29:16):
that are there, the talent's there, the powers there, but
right now is not happening, and you've got to find
a little spark here and there too.

Speaker 8 (29:22):
Jose Mota is joining us.

Speaker 9 (29:24):
After the Cardinals beat the Dodgers tonight three to two,
Jose in the ninth inning, can you figure out what
was going on with brock Stewart after Lars Newbar was
hung out to dry there and when he stepped off?

Speaker 8 (29:35):
Do you feel like the game got too fast on him?
Have you ever seen that happen before?

Speaker 4 (29:40):
I've seen that happen very often. It happened in Alamodo
this year too. Because you know, it comes a time
where your picture. You're a picture so keyed in. I
focused on one spot. Either the guy's gonna run or not.
I'm going to deliver the ball a lot. I'm going
to step off and look first. But sometimes when things
happen like that and somebody says step off, it's like
you don't know where to look. Step but for what

(30:00):
what happened, and the communication needs to be so clear.
Step off two, step off one. I know he was
worried about the guy at third base, but you know
the carters are not going to put on the play
there and design to play with nobody out. They're not
going to give up, you know, an easy out just
because but turned the you know, somebody jumped the gun.
He left too early, and you got to step off
and just somebody say one or two. And if you're

(30:21):
not sure about throwing the ball and you know that
the guy's gonna stop or keep going back to first base,
just don't throw the basketball. But for sure, there needed
to be an out in that situation there, and on
the pitching side, he was just up in the zone.
You know, a couple of leaders here and there are
going to hurt you. But when you're up on the zone,
you give the hit or a better chance to fight
those pitches up and find some balls over the people say,
and that's exactly what happened, all.

Speaker 8 (30:43):
Right, Jose, thanks for checking in.

Speaker 9 (30:44):
I'm sure it was great for you and Cochito Cruz
to be back on your broadcast.

Speaker 11 (30:48):
Boots.

Speaker 4 (30:50):
When I saw seventy five degrees, I was like, hallelujah,
Yes you survived.

Speaker 8 (30:56):
We got so good.

Speaker 4 (30:57):
It's big league baseball, man. It comes in many ways,
many forms, because never know it's going to be wrapped up.
It's still big league baseball, no.

Speaker 8 (31:04):
Doubt, no doubt. We'll see you back out here tomorrow.

Speaker 11 (31:06):
Jose.

Speaker 9 (31:07):
Thanks, all right, there he goes Jose Mota, part of
the Dodgers Spanish radio broadcast. Eight six six nine eight
seven two five seventy is the phone number. Dodgers fall
to the Cardinals tonight three to two, and are just
seven and nine since the All Star Break. They're averaging
three point seven runs per game since the All Star break.

(31:29):
The offense is just not clicking right now, and the
Dodgers missed a golden opportunity tonight to gain a game
on the San Diego Padres, who lost to the Diamondbacks
tonight in Arizona. The Dodgers are three games ahead of
San Diego in the NL West. The Padres lost tonight

(31:49):
six to two. Dodgers had a great opportunity to go
up four games. And don't forget this month will be
the final six regular season matchups between the Dodgers and Padres.
The first of those six a three game series here
at Dodgers Stadium August fifteenth, sixteenth, and seventeenth. The Dodgers

(32:12):
then go to Denver for four games and end up
that road trip in San Diego August twenty second, twenty third,
twenty fourth, and that's it as far as head to
head matchups go. And look, with the Dodgers leading in
the division, that's a big advantage for them. If they
could have a four or five game lead going into

(32:34):
any one of those two series, they would be in
good shape to make it that much more difficult for
the new look Padres to catch them. And you know,
they didn't do much of anything during the offseason. Their
biggest signings were Gavin Sheets and Jason Hayward.

Speaker 11 (32:50):
That was it.

Speaker 9 (32:51):
So aj Preller, who had some constraints this offseason, just
decided to blow the prospect capital that he had to
improve the.

Speaker 8 (33:02):
Lineup and his bullpen.

Speaker 9 (33:04):
With Mason Miller, Ramon Lariano and Ryan O'Hearn in the lineup,
they're a much better team than they were even two
weeks ago. But the Dodgers did a lot during this
offseason and they're just hoping to get guys healthy in
the bullpen and get guys playing the way they have played.
Eight six six seven two five seventy is the phone number.

(33:27):
Let's go out to Sessan and Westwood. You're on Dodger Talk.
How you doing, Sisan?

Speaker 5 (33:33):
I'm doing great?

Speaker 1 (33:34):
Thank you, David.

Speaker 5 (33:35):
I was at the game today. I just wanted to
ask you a question. So we heard earlier in the
show rookie Betts was talking about his struggles and how
he's done everything possible, and my question was, you know
there could we get some more direct intervention on your end?

Speaker 3 (33:54):
David?

Speaker 5 (33:55):
Can we give Mookie Best the dead fish handshake that
has helped conform though? What are your thoughts on that?

Speaker 9 (34:03):
I mean, I tried to get the fans to give
him a standing ovation. Tonight's the san That's more than
anything I've ever done for JD. Martinez or Michael CONFORDO.
But yeah, you know, if Mookie's open to it, you
got to be open to it. I would try to
give him the dead fish handshake, but you know it's
I'll try to do it for you.

Speaker 8 (34:23):
So son, how about that.

Speaker 5 (34:24):
I appreciate that. I appreciate that. I know I was
at the game.

Speaker 8 (34:27):
Yeah, there's only so much I could do.

Speaker 5 (34:30):
Yeah, yeah, we you know, hopefully we can try it,
but you know, the season, the series is not over.
We can maybe get tomorrow and win the series on Wednesday. Anyway,
thank you so much for taking my call. I appreciate it.

Speaker 9 (34:42):
Hey, no worries, And look, you know I threw it
out there this afternoon. You know, it felt like the
right time for something like that to happen, especially after
ten day road trip, a nine game road trip where
Mookie actually had to miss the first game because he
was away for his stepfather's funeral in Nashville, Tennessee. Showed

(35:04):
up in Boston, took a pinchhit at bat on Saturday
night there in Boston. Just felt like the right thing
to suggest, especially on the anniversary of Philly doing that
for Trede Turner last year. But obviously it didn't work
out the same way. But you know, Mookie Betts is
too good to go down this way this season. I

(35:25):
still believe that at some point it's going to click.
I'm not saying he's going to carry the Dodgers offensively,
but the Dodgers need him to be productive, and I
still believe he can find it. But hitting, I'm really
hoping right now Mookie Betts is not hitting in the
Dodger batting cage and he's just at home getting rest,
maybe eating something. Just it just seems like too much.

(35:49):
It's the month of August. They call it the Dog
Days for a reason. Hitting three hours before and after games,
it's not going to solve things. Let's go out to
Whitty or Andrew. You're on Dog you talk with David
vasse Hi Andrew, Yeah, great, you're awake.

Speaker 3 (36:10):
Yeah, I'm here just listening. And I kind of think
what mister Mota was saying was right. As far as
Brock Stewart, I think he was thinking too much about
what the guy on third base, and that's maybe the
reason why he didn't throw her first and get that
guy that was off the first base. But besides that play,

(36:31):
I really, well, it's pretty alive. I know he gave
up a run there, but I like what I see
from him. I was at the game, and I think
moving forward he's going to be He's going to be
helpful to the Dodgers.

Speaker 9 (36:42):
Hey, that's a very positive call at eleven o'clock at night, Andrew,
after a Dodger loss.

Speaker 7 (36:47):
I like that.

Speaker 8 (36:48):
Thank you for the phone call. That'll do it for
us tonight on Dodger Talk. That's a good way to
walk it off.

Speaker 9 (36:53):
Great job by calling you to get these phones working
again after they were tampered with earlier in the day.

Speaker 8 (37:00):
Thanks to you for listening.

Speaker 9 (37:02):
Tomorrow, Game two of this three game series between the
Dodgers and Cardinals. EMag Shean on the mound for the
Dodgers going up against Miles Michaels.

Speaker 8 (37:11):
You remember Michaels.

Speaker 9 (37:12):
He was the guy that popped off in spring training
when the Dodgers spend a half a billion dollars trying
to be better, said, they're playing checkbook baseball. Well, Miles,
you gotta play the game, and the Dodgers aren't first place,
and they're doing it in a lot of different ways.
Michaels this year six to eight with an era of
four to eighty three Marongo Casino. Dodgers on Deck begins

(37:35):
at six o'clock with first pitch at seven ten. In
case you missed anyither show or our pregame conversation with
snell Zilla, you can find it on the iHeartRadio app
once again. The final score tonight from Dodgers Stadium. The
Cardinals shut down the Dodgers three to two. Ben Maller

(37:55):
on Fox Sports Radio is next. Nobody can keep him down.
I have a great rest of your night.

Speaker 8 (38:01):
See ye, so shock laing
