Speaker 1 (00:01):
One thing about this gene is the invisible and tangibles
that they have.
Speaker 2 (00:07):
This team is really becoming a family.
Speaker 1 (00:09):
Let's not play one on Tom. Let's wind it.
Speaker 2 (00:11):
I love writing me these guys after the show.
Speaker 3 (00:13):
So just thank you, give me are.
Speaker 4 (00:15):
Your attention, your fire and not a pisson.
Speaker 5 (00:17):
This is world champion, Dodger world championing for a small
soft time.
Speaker 4 (00:22):
They get up people what they want to die too?
In a row two is special. I'm like, yeah, it's
not a headache.
Speaker 6 (00:28):
One of a con.
Speaker 4 (00:30):
This ball's gone. You ready to go?
Speaker 5 (00:33):
Hell time go to the South, grab your phone to
get in on the show called eight six six nine
eighty seven two five seven.
Speaker 4 (00:40):
And go to the show.
Speaker 5 (00:41):
And now your host of Dodger Talk, David Vasse.
Speaker 6 (00:47):
We are live at Dodgers Stadium after the Dodgers blow
out the Blue Jays tonight by a final score of
nine to one. David Vasse, live at Dodgers Stadium. I'm
with you until ten thirty to night here on AM
five to seventy LA Sports eight six six nine eight
seven two five seventy is the phone number.
Speaker 4 (01:07):
We have phone lines open.
Speaker 6 (01:08):
Jose Mota will join us coming up at ten point fifteen,
you'll get a Tommy Edmund update. We'll let you know
how the Dodger pitching rotation is stacking up in Anaheim
when the Dodgers and Angel took up for a three
game series beginning on Monday. But this was about Blake
Snell setting the tone on snell Zella Saturday. I mean,
(01:32):
the reason why we call it snell Zella Saturday is
he would do a pregame interview every Saturday while he
was hurt, and it so happens that his first two
starts off the IL happen to be on a Saturday.
And look going back to Don Mattingley, who's now the
bench coach for the Blue Jays, Dave Roberts has said
(01:52):
this repeatedly as well. The starting pitcher sets the tone
for that day's game. You momentum as far as a
winning streak goes, or the possibility of extending a winning
streak goes only as far as that day's starting pitcher.
You saw it last night with Clayton Kershaw pitching a
(02:14):
gem six innings, allowed just one earn run. Tonight, Blake
Snell five scoreless innings, strikes out ten Blue Jays, and
you heard Dave Roberts reference that because the Blue Jays
strike out the least amount of times of any team
in Major League Baseball. So it's one thing to strike
(02:35):
out ten in any old game, but to have ten
strikeouts against an offense that strikeouts the fewest amount of
times in Major League Baseball this year says something about
how good Blake Snell was. And right from the onset,
Blake Snell's fastball command was really good. His change up
(02:56):
was even better. It's his sneaky best pitch. Teams are
always looking for the slider, they're waiting for the curve ball, fastball,
change up, one A, one B.
Speaker 4 (03:08):
They worked together.
Speaker 6 (03:10):
If Snell doesn't have fastball command, his change up is
not going to play. But he had it, and he
had ninety seven. He had ninety eight miles an hour,
and he was facing a bunch of right handed hitters tonight,
which plays into his hands of that change up because
it goes away from right handed hitters. So they weren't
(03:32):
making the adjustments on the change up. And when he
got into trouble, when he got into full counts, when
he gave up doubles for whatever reason, he started to
get away from the change up when he got back
to it is when he became dominant again. And Max
Munsey coming up big with that two run home run
in the fourth inning was huge to give Snell a
(03:54):
two to nothing lead, and it was big for Snell
to come back out in the fifth inning and get.
Speaker 4 (04:00):
A quick zero for the Dodgers.
Speaker 6 (04:02):
He got Vladimir Guerrero Junior to swing at the first
pitch and he popped it up to Alex Friedland at
second base for the final out of the game. And
I also thought Snell and Dalton Rushing were on the
same page better than what they were last Saturday in Tampa.
Rushing earns Snell's trust today because Blake sometimes spikes his curveball,
(04:25):
and if he doesn't trust the catcher is going to
block it, he's not gonna throw it, and he's gonna
lose trust in his catcher. But Dalton Rushing made nice,
two nice blocks on his spike curveball tonight, which allowed
Blake to have confidence to throw that, just to put
it in the back of hitters' minds. And when Blake
(04:46):
was with the Padres, everybody wondered, why the heck does
he want to throw to Gary Sanchez, that was his catcher.
The reason why he wanted to throw to Gary Sanchez
was because he was a mac truck behind the Yeah,
he may not have been the best receiver or framer,
but he could block his curve ball and block his
(05:06):
slider in the dirt. So that was big for Dalton Rushing,
who had a good night. He was part of that
six run sixth inning when it was still a game.
Dalton Rushing came up with a big two run single
in the sixth inning to blow this game open and
caught a really good game from Blake Snell. Snell had
eighteen swings and misses tonight, eleven of them through the
(05:28):
first two innings. Let's go downstairs right now to sports
net LA, who has Blake Snell in the clubhouse.
Speaker 1 (05:36):
Yeah.
Speaker 7 (05:36):
No, it's good, it's getting better. You just need the
command the fastball better. Get ahead and started off good
and then you know, as the game goes on, I
just got to clean it up. But four pitch walk
Tovar show gotta be better, especially when I know, like
what I can do to tell successful against him. So
(06:00):
still a lot of work to do. Yeah, Like there's
a lot of things I can do better and and
help me get deeper into the game by overall unhealthy.
I'm really excited about that. Do you feel like you're
kind of knocking off based Russ for the layoff? Yeah,
I mean, I think the one thing that, like the
(06:24):
experience kind of trumps everything play. You know, pitched a
lot in the Big League so far in my career,
and just the confidence and the trust that I have
and you know who I am right now, I think
that plays a big part. But yeah, I don't I
don't know if there's RUSS. I think, yeah, I don't
(06:47):
know how I word it, but there's something, yeah, like
just the feel and like the oh yeah I do
this when I like if I missed the ball up,
like what's my tail to get back down and stuff
like that.
Speaker 8 (07:00):
Yeah, the change up was sort of coaching to a
lake today.
Speaker 7 (07:03):
Yeah, I could strike it the fastball, you know, just
missing up and away. And yeah, there's some things I'm
gonna do differently in the next start that I'm excited about.
But yeah, just fastball Connecticut. If it's better, then a
lot change in the outcome.
Speaker 4 (07:22):
You had a discussion with Dold Pryor.
Speaker 5 (07:23):
I think after that third I mean looking through notebook.
Was that more strategy how to attack these guys or
what was going on there?
Speaker 7 (07:29):
Yeah, it's just you know, understanding, we're trying to get
on the same page. We you know, he's caught me twice.
We got a lot to learn, you know, me learning
how he catches him on our pitch. He has good
things to offer. Of good things, there's just a lot
of you know, we're gonna figure this out and work together.
That's pretty much how that was.
Speaker 4 (07:51):
All right.
Speaker 6 (07:52):
There's Blakes now on sports Net l A. And with
the way things are lined up with another off day
on Thursday and show Heo Tawi pitching on Wednesday, Yamamoto
push back to Monday.
Speaker 4 (08:05):
Last now starts tomorrow.
Speaker 6 (08:08):
Looks like Blake Snell is gonna face his former team
next weekend at Dodgers Stadium on snell Zilla Saturday Dodgers
Padres here at Dodgers Stadium, a week from tonight, Game
two of that series.
Speaker 4 (08:22):
Blake Snell more than.
Speaker 6 (08:23):
Likely will have the ball next Saturday night against the
San Diego Padres. Eight six six nine eight seven two
five seventy is the phone number. The Dodgers maintain a
three game lead over the Padres. The Red Sox lost
to San Diego at Peco Park tonight in the tenth thinning.
(08:44):
The Red Sox tied the score in the ninth inning
to force extra innings, but it was the Padres newest acquisition,
outfielder Ramon Loreano, coming up big in the tenth inning.
Speaker 9 (08:56):
First pitch on the way and a bouncer over the
head of the per basement bregnant down left, you lie,
Bilberts is on his way.
Speaker 4 (09:02):
Anthony's throat of the plate is not in time.
Speaker 3 (09:05):
Eravon Loriano walks it off as the Padres beat the
Red Sox five to four and ten.
Speaker 6 (09:13):
All right, not as great as last night for the Dodgers.
They look like Alex Cora and Rome and Anthony were
gonna be able to ambush San Diego late at Peco Park,
but it wasn't meant to be, so the Dodgers took
care of business. And the Dodgers have the calendar on
their side. They're the ones with the lead in the division,
(09:35):
so every day that you take off the calendar is
in favor of the Dodgers as it as it pertains
to maintaining the lead. The Dodgers wouldn't mind winning this
division by three games. Even if they win by one,
they still win the division. And certainly it's gonna be
(09:56):
huge next weekend at Dodgers Stadium, when the Dodgers and
Padres hook up for a three game series. We're gonna
see the same thing we saw earlier in the year,
a big span of time where the Dodgers and Padres
don't play each other, then all of a sudden, they
play each other six times in the matter of ten games.
(10:18):
So tempers may boil over again when the Dodgers and
Padre see each other next weekend here at Dodgers Stadium
and in two weeks at Petco Park, and that will
be it for the regular season. Eight six six seven
two five seventy is the phone number.
Speaker 4 (10:36):
I know.
Speaker 6 (10:36):
We've talked a lot about the Dodger offense. It was
great to see the last couple of nights the Dodger
offense starting to resemble what their identity was last year
and what it was early on this season. And Miguel
Rojas joined us at Superior Grocers in Huntington Park earlier
(10:57):
this morning.
Speaker 4 (10:58):
It was a great day out there there at Huntington Park.
Speaker 6 (11:01):
Thank you to Superior grocers and real money exchange for
having us out there. And so many of you call
in and talk about team offense, small ball and giving
up team at bats, and Miguel Rojas feels the same way.
Speaker 10 (11:21):
There's not a switsch that you can turn off on
and off in baseball, so you have to be able
to bring that every single night. And I feel like
it's time for us to kind of like glue us
a team like that because we know, we know we
can do it. We have the kind of the same
personnel that we had last year for the for the playoffs,
and we knew we have to kind of like tweak
(11:43):
some things in the Padres Series last year, and that's
why it's important. And we're still talking about the championship
season because that's gonna be kind of the baseline for
us to kind of go this year too, because we
knew we have to kind of like play our best
baseball to con tinued to advance in the playoff last year,
to get to awards hears. And when we got to
(12:03):
Awards heers, what make us win was like doing the
little things. Yeah, we didn't hit the so many homers.
I know Freddie went off and hit homers in five
games in a row or something like that. But at
the same time, it was like the small ball, pulling
the ball in play with two strikes, pulling the pressure
on the defense running the bases, And I think that's
(12:24):
something that we kind of lack off the last month
and a half here, So I think it's going to
be important for us to kind of remember those times.
And last night last night game kind of give me
a really good impression of like, we're close to get there.
Speaker 6 (12:38):
And tonight I'm sure was encouraging for the Dodgers as well,
because they passed the baton tonight, especially in the sixth
inning where they batted through the lineup and scored six runs,
and show hal Tani told us after the game same thing.
Guys are starting to be more consistent with their bats.
Mookie bats I mean thinking about him when guys allude
(13:02):
to that. In his last four games, Mookie Betts is
seven for his last sixteen with five RBIs, including driving
in two of the six runs in the sixth inning.
After the Blue Jays walked O'tani intentionally to face Mooki Betts.
How many times have we seen that in the last
couple of years, and MOOKI more times than not, has
(13:25):
made the opposing manager pay for that decision. And he
did it again. And I think the most encouraging part
of the last two nights when it comes to Mookie's
game is that the ball is coming off his bat
and jumping off his bat the way we are used
to seeing it from Mooky Betts. Even that ball down
the left field line that he hit, I mean, that's
(13:47):
the way the ball is supposed to come off his bat.
Seems like he has shortened up his swing, doesn't seem
like there's a lot of hand movements.
Speaker 4 (13:56):
And maybe the time he spent with JD.
Speaker 6 (13:58):
Martinez out there in Florida after that Saturday Day game
paid benefits for him. So, like I said, you can
never say that Mookie Betts is not putting in the
work to try to figure it out. But all of
a sudden, now whatever work he has put in, whatever
adjustments he has made mentally mechanically, is starting to pay off.
(14:18):
And that's big for the Dodgers. As the Dodgers blow
out the Blue Jays tonight nine to one, eight six six,
nine eighty seven two five seventy is the phone number
we have phone lines open. I know, after a nine
to one win, there's not a lot to complain about,
but certainly a lot to celebrate, including Max Munsey again
(14:39):
being the under the.
Speaker 4 (14:41):
Radar glue of this Dodger offense.
Speaker 6 (14:44):
Monsey tonight was on base three times, including hitting a
go ahead two run home run in a scoreless tie
in the fourth inning opposite.
Speaker 4 (14:54):
Way over the short wall in left field. That was
good to see.
Speaker 6 (15:00):
And Munsey continues to take great at bats to lengthen
this lineup, and I don't believe it's an overstatement anymore
to say, yes, Max Munsey is the glue for this offense.
He is a perfect guy to hit cleanup, to hit fifth,
to make the opposing pitcher work, to have great at bats,
(15:20):
to draw walks, to pass the baton, to be the
threat of that home run that we saw in the
fourth inning, and now not being a three true outcome hitter,
but being a guy that could slap the ball opposite
field or pull the ball for a single knowing the situation.
Speaker 4 (15:39):
And I don't believe it's a coincidence.
Speaker 6 (15:41):
The Dodgers are starting to get their footing here with
Max Munsey back in the lineup and now Mookie Betts
starting to look more like Mookie Betts. With that being said,
it's got to make show, Hey Otani buy in in
the trust that he doesn't have to do it all himself.
I felt like maybe he was trying to take it
(16:02):
upon himself too much because he knew guys behind him
were struggling at different periods.
Speaker 4 (16:07):
Of time this season.
Speaker 6 (16:10):
After the game tonight, Otani stopped by after his fortieth home.
Speaker 4 (16:14):
Run of the season.
Speaker 6 (16:16):
Show, Hey, you did this quicker this year than you
did last year.
Speaker 4 (16:20):
How are you feeling at the plate right now? To
us get them?
Speaker 11 (16:26):
Ma?
Speaker 8 (16:26):
That's like you know this, yeah, really good?
Speaker 9 (16:35):
Feeling good at the play? A lot of things are
clicking for you right now.
Speaker 6 (16:39):
When a basketball player has an incredible play, they like
to admire it a little bit more. When you hit
that home run, you had that mamba mentality look on
your face. You wanted to watch how far it went
right toy.
Speaker 9 (16:53):
Homanamah and I got my die what you got done this? Yeah,
especially when you hit it to Santa Field. Do you
really see it go so?
Speaker 4 (17:10):
Yeah?
Speaker 9 (17:10):
I just saw it really good, and you know, really
feeling good at the play?
Speaker 4 (17:14):
Show Hey, do you feel as an offense. You're starting
to click as a whole.
Speaker 9 (17:18):
SATs Nagata, I mean to the musk.
Speaker 8 (17:25):
Thursday, Yeah, really putting quality at bats, and a lot
of guys are really being a lot more consistent at
the play.
Speaker 9 (17:41):
So I think our goal is to just be consistent
game to game.
Speaker 6 (17:45):
Congratulations on number forty. I'm glad I was here for it.
I know I'm a big inspiration. Thank you, Hey, good
times with show A Tani. It's been a pleasure to
be able to watch him make history last year and
watch him do extraordinary things this year, including hitting his
fortieth home run in Game one hundred and seventeen. That's
(18:09):
a faster pace to forty than he had last year
in his.
Speaker 4 (18:12):
Fifty to fifty season.
Speaker 6 (18:14):
He hit his fortieth home run last year in Game
one hundred and twenty nine, and by the way, O'tani
becomes the first Dodger with back to back forty home
run season since Sean Green in two thousand and one
and two thousand and two. Otani is on pace for
fifty five home runs this season. Eight six, six, nine,
(18:38):
eight seven two five seventy is the phone number. Dodgers
beat the Blue Jays nine to one, and win the
series already and looking for the sweep tomorrow against Toronto.
Eight six six nine eighty seven two five seventy is
the phone number the Dodgers will have Tyler Glass now
on the mound tomorrow for the chance at a sweep.
(19:01):
Let's go out to Mike who is at Dodgers Stadium tonight. Hi, Mike,
you're on Dodger Talk. Hi there, I'm doing great.
Speaker 3 (19:12):
Hey David, I told you I was gonna come you
tonight when we spoke down in the field.
Speaker 4 (19:18):
You're gonna call in.
Speaker 12 (19:21):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (19:21):
I was with my brother Tim tonight. He's a huge
Blake Snell fan. Great win tonight with an offensive outburst.
My only question is how are we gonna win some close,
low scoring games at some point? Every time we're in
a low scoring game, the bullten seems to not be
able to figure it out. Do you think there's a
pass that's wearing low scoring games at some point this season?
Speaker 4 (19:40):
Yeah? I feel like, Uh, they did that on the
road trip.
Speaker 6 (19:43):
They won a game three to nothing and when they
didn't hit a home run and they were able to
scratch across three h three runs h Either that was
against Tampa or Cincinnati, off the top of my head, Mike.
But yeah, this this team is capable of doing that,
even more so now with the starting pitching they have,
(20:03):
and once they get Tanner Scott and Michael Kopek back,
that should be uh an even deeper bullpen. You probably
wouldn't see a guy like Alexis Diaz in a high
leverage situation. It doesn't seem like the Das experiment is
lending itself to him being a high leverage reliever. But yeah,
(20:24):
I believe they have already shown they can do that.
Speaker 3 (20:28):
All right, Well, thanks for game for taking my call, David.
You have a great night.
Speaker 6 (20:32):
Hey how did you get such great seats down there?
You were right by the Dodger dugout Mike.
Speaker 1 (20:38):
Oh, my brother Sam to Blake Snell fan. He took
care of us tonight.
Speaker 4 (20:42):
I love that.
Speaker 6 (20:43):
See, you can't go wrong with a Snell zilla fan.
They take care of people.
Speaker 1 (20:47):
That's right.
Speaker 3 (20:48):
Do you have a great night, David?
Speaker 4 (20:50):
All right, thank you, Mike, appreciate it.
Speaker 6 (20:52):
Look, the Dodgers winning close games, it's not just gonna
be about the bullpen. Obviously, pitching plays a big part
in the last three innings to be able to win
close games, but your offense is gonna have to be
able to come through with situational hitting and also better defense.
The Dodgers could have won that game on Wednesday afternoon
(21:14):
against the Cardinals, but their defense let them down in
the eighth inning. Let's go out to Scott who is
at Dodgers Stadium tonight. Hi, Scott, you're on Dodger Talk.
Speaker 1 (21:23):
Hey Dave, what's happening. What a great game tonight. Gotta
tell you, Blake was on point, on point.
Speaker 6 (21:32):
You just got a taste of what it's gonna be like,
Scott with a healthy Blake Snell. I mean him throwing
ninety seven to ninety eight. He was on a mission tonight,
and I believe he's on a mission for the rest
of the season because he's heard the critics his entire career.
He's the most disrespected two time Cy Young Award winner
that I can remember. And look, I just I just
(21:56):
feel like, you know, it didn't go his way the
first half of this in with the shoulder injury, but
those things happen, and now he wants to push forward
and pitch the Dodgers to the World Series again.
Speaker 1 (22:10):
Well, he definitely wants a ring. You can see it,
and I'll tell you he makes it so I get
to eat tomorrow. He got us a jumbo jack and
chicken McNuggets. Dave, can you believe real quick, I'm so.
Speaker 4 (22:24):
Happy to win a fan base over.
Speaker 1 (22:27):
No doubt about it. Feed us. So when bets bats
come from bets back in the lineup with a bat.
There was a talk you were talking earlier about how
the fact that the ball's finally going where it needs
to be going, and that is so right, that is
so right. We depend on that second guy after you
show Hey's going to get his hits. We know that
(22:48):
he's gonna hit it.
Speaker 6 (22:52):
Oh Scott going through the drive through it either Mickey
D's or Jack in a box.
Speaker 4 (22:56):
I hear what you're saying.
Speaker 6 (22:58):
If the number two hitter is not a threat behind
show Hey Otani, you're going to see him be intentionally
walked more and more. And you need Mookie Betts to deliver,
and more times than not, since managers have started to
do that, he has delivered and he's starting to swing
the bat at the perfect time. And if you look
(23:19):
at Mooki's career, for whatever reason, the best month of
the season usually is August. Actually Today is the anniversary
of Mookie Bets hitting for the cycle in twenty eighteen.
Mookie loves August. It's not a coincidence that he is
starting to heat up this month. Eight six six nine
(23:41):
eight seven two five p seventy is the phone number.
Speaker 4 (23:44):
Let's go out to Gerald. You're on Dodger Talk live
from Dodger Stadium.
Speaker 11 (23:48):
Hi Gerald, Hey, David Hopol as well. It's been a
great two games. Can't complain about anything. But I do
remember listening to Dodger Talk about two months ago where
you said Alexis Teas would be in high leverage by
this time around about August. You said, and if.
Speaker 6 (24:09):
I know you got the receipts, I said, it was
a very good trade a by low with the possibility
of him hitting as a high leverage reliever. From what
I've seen, Gerald, I don't see that materializing.
Speaker 2 (24:25):
So look, and I'm gonna give you your props. Man,
Blake Snell is better than advertised. If he can get
more economical, we'll just I know he has to throw
balls to set up the breakers and everything, but man,
I mean this guy watching him pitches art. But if
Tim Kate isn't that don.
Speaker 12 (24:42):
Cucko right now and he's listening you. Oh dinner man,
you said you said it, you guys, bet he said
there's no way Alexis Seas would get any sort of burn.
And you're like, he'll be high leveraged by by August.
Speaker 1 (24:57):
You said he was in the ninth inn.
Speaker 4 (24:59):
Gerald, What do you.
Speaker 12 (25:02):
Come on, David? Hey run all right, Hey.
Speaker 6 (25:06):
All right, I don't remember that bet, but I'm sure
Tim Kates would love free food at any point in time.
Speaker 4 (25:13):
So yeah, I'll get him a gift card. He could
have a couple of margaritas.
Speaker 6 (25:17):
Man, That guy was keeping a lot of Alexis Diaz
receipts on me. Look, I just said when the Dodgers
made that trade, it was a really good under the
radar trade where if they could get him back to
where he was a couple of years ago with the
Reds as their all star closer, that would solve a
lot of problems for the Dodgers and make their bullpen
(25:39):
that much deeper.
Speaker 4 (25:40):
From what I've seen, I don't see it happening. Hey,
it was worth a try, and the.
Speaker 6 (25:48):
Dodgers are probably one of only two or three teams
that could actually take a roll of the dice on
a guy making three million dollars that was sent to
the minor leagues. Let's go out to Westwood, Hassan, you're
on Dodger Talk. How you doing, Sasan, I'm doing great.
Speaker 13 (26:03):
Thank you David for having me on. You know, it's
great to hear that you're the inspiration for showy Otani
doing well.
Speaker 4 (26:10):
Who would have ever thought that, right.
Speaker 1 (26:13):
Yeah, no, it's unbelievable.
Speaker 13 (26:15):
But no, I just want to say your guys, Snake's
smell villa was unbelievable today and it was great to
see him.
Speaker 1 (26:21):
Pitch.
Speaker 13 (26:23):
I did have a question, this is unrelated to the
game today, but about one of our pictures in the
my leagues, Bobby Miller. Since his conversion to being a
reliever has been lights out. He's had four scoreless relief
appearances in Okay See and in that time has only
rocked one batter. And my question to you is, you know,
assuming he's able to continue that what he's showing in
(26:45):
the minor leagues, do you think he gets the call
back up to the big league club to potentially be
a middle or high leverage leaver guy leader this season?
Speaker 6 (26:54):
Without a doubt, Sasan the Dodgers did not have Bobby
Miller moved to the bullpen at Oklahoma the City if
they did not have thoughts about having him be a
reliever at the major league level and see how it
goes at the major league level. And tonight Bobby Miller
again pitched another scoreless inning in relief for Oklahoma City.
(27:16):
And he has gone scoreless in four relief outings. And
I follow this Twitter account Dodgers Daily. They have more
minor league information than I could ever consume. But it's
great to see Bobby possibly becoming that guy. And look,
I'm not saying he's going to be Eric Gannie Sassan,
but Eric Gannie was a failed starting pitcher and the
(27:39):
Dodgers put him in the bullpen and simplified his pitch
mix to fastball and one of the best bugs Bunny
changeups out there. If Bobby Miller can do that and
not try to outthink himself with all these different pitches,
he's going to be successful. And I can't wait to
see that experiment aby in September, maybe sooner. So yeah,
(28:03):
I would say, let's go at Bobby Miller and let's
see what he's got.
Speaker 13 (28:07):
Great, thank you, so much. Thanks for being our inspiration.
Speaker 6 (28:09):
David Okay Sisan, thank you for the phone call. Eight
sixty six eight seven two five seventy is the phone number.

know when Otani will pitch the next time. Well, forget that,
I'll just tell you right now. He's pitching Wednesday in
(28:31):
Anaheim against the Angels. Otani versus Trout again Yamamoto on
Monday as well. Dodger Talk rolls on from Dodgers Stadium

short wall into the first couple of.
Speaker 5 (29:18):
Rows, a two run blest break the ice.

on to roll over the Blue Jays tonight by a
final score of nine to one. The glue of the
Dodger offense Max Munsey with the two run home run

Speaker 5 (30:08):
It's time to go around the horn with Jose Mota.
Speaker 6 (30:14):
We know Jose Moto was amped up for snell Zilla Saturday.
There seems to be another different level of energy in
the press box when Blake Snell is on the mound. Jose,
it feels like it was a really good start by
our standards, but certainly from what Blake said, it was
not as good as he wanted it to be.
Speaker 14 (30:36):
I think Dave overall, you right. He brings a different
energy because of the expectations of some of us one,
a couple of young's in both leaves one and one, but
also on seeing all his stuff is going to continue
to develop. We saw in Tampa Bay just a glimpse
of how good his stuff is with the swings of
Missus a couple of home runs the other way, only
at that ballpark. But man, he competes, and I love
(30:58):
his answers, Dave. That is why he is who he is.
A free spirit, tough guy. He does not hide his emotions.
He's going to tell you exactly what you may have
perhaps not gonna be ready to hear, but he tells you.
I mean, the way he's thinking is what he expels.
You know out about mouth. Well, I mean just to
tell yourself. Oh, let me just go out there and
pump myself up and pat myself on the boat because
(31:19):
I punch out ten guys in five innings, because I'm
back for a second start. Now, It's like there's some
things I'm learning still, Dave. That is the mentality of
a guy. And that's why guys like Smell are a
good fit for this ball club, because there's always that
little more or a little extra, As he says, I
don't know what it is, but there's something missing there,
and you just love to hear that, because as you
and I talked about and bring training at the end,
you're asking me about what's going to drive this team
(31:41):
to another chance of a championship, and it's not going
to be this sung that's going to be starting pitching.
And now the way things are lining up, it is
exactly the way you want to see it. With Snell
leading in the race, have you.
Speaker 4 (31:52):
Seen a picture maybe even I'll narrow it down to
a left handed pitcher with a change up as nasty
as Snell had it tonight and even in his start
in Tampa.
Speaker 14 (32:02):
It's hard to even match up and compare because guys
with great change ups usually are guys that are not guys.
You know, power guys, and you're gonna find once in
a while or right hander like you know, Petro Martinez
in company. But to find a guy who's a power
pitcher can other them throw ninety seven ninety eight and
didn't have a great feel for that tanje up. It's
(32:22):
hard to match and that's why against a team by
the day that don't strike out a whole lot. I mean,
as you mentioned already in the numbers, they don't they
strike out the least amount of times with anybody in baseball.
But man, he made him look today like his slugging
team because the swings are out of whack. The even
the guessing was out of whack. Because he can change
patterns and sequences so quickly and then the field in separation,
(32:43):
which is to me the key. He does not slow
his arm down when he's throwing a change up. Everything
looks the same from the same spot, release point, arm slot,
arm speed, which is so important for him. And he's
pretty much like playing catch. And I'm so glad that
he and Rushing are locker made because I'm know all
the conversations been going on for a long time, as
Rushing has told me, and he's learning and he's applying,
(33:05):
and he wants to spot that curveball. And you know
it doesn't hurt a pitcher to just remind his cash on.
So all listen, I don't want you to catch up
brick and ball that door. I want you to block it.
Speaker 1 (33:15):
That's it.
Speaker 14 (33:15):
I don't want you to try to make it strike
nothing else. I want you to block it and just
help me to repeat it. Because if guy feed o
hiss hitters. They may not expect me to repeat it,
but I want to repeat as much as possible to
trust him that you're going to go out there and
block it. So it was a nice combination about I
really am really encourage you here guy saying that even
after this performers tonight in the swings and misses, there's
(33:35):
a little bit more in the tank. It's very encouraging.
Speaker 4 (33:38):
I love how.
Speaker 6 (33:39):
Dave Roberts said he believes now with the starting pitching
healthy and pitching the way that they can, there's a
chance now to go on a winning streak. If the
Dodgers can complete the sweep with Glass now on the mound, tomorrow,
they have three games against the average Angels team, they
could be winners of six in a row heading into
(34:01):
that Padres series next Friday.
Speaker 14 (34:04):
And for that to happen, you have to win the
closed ball games. I mean, there's surprise teams that are
going to sometimes ambush you and put three on the
board before you know it. You got to go out
there and pitch well and defend will so the many
faces loose seems will die your so far and something's good,
sometimes not very good. Now it's time to put it
all together because you got to win that game. Like
last night, you gotta go out there and beat bullpens.
(34:26):
You got to go out there and keep your team
in the game and play clean baseball. All the things
that we've seen sometimes that are lacking are happening for
a reason, and the time is now, because there's not
a whole time left. Don't look at the standings even tomorrow.
Don't think about a swift. Just go out there and
think about playing your best game. The pastic games are
in the cant already, and go out there and get
what you gotting. The Mountain needs to play solid defense,
(34:48):
run the base as well, more team at bats, productive bass,
because that's ultimately what's going to get this team back
to where they want to go.
Speaker 6 (34:57):
Jose Mota is joining us after the Dodgers defeat Blue
Jays nine to one. Show Hey Otani hit his fortieth
home run of the year. It just feels with Mookie
Betts starting to click in the last handful of games
and Freddie Freeman being back in monthcy back from the
injured list, there's a lot more trust from Otani and
(35:18):
maybe he doesn't feel like he has to do it
all himself.
Speaker 14 (35:22):
Yeah, you know, and Show he will tell you that
he doesn't think about that, But I mean being human
and being a guy that cares about a team, you
always thinking about, well they eat my bat as much
as possible, because I want to help out the other
guys if they're not producing. But there's gonna be times
in which now Muki Betts is going to have to
carry it, and there's no doubt the teams are going
to pay more attention as always. We saw what happened
last September. Who'll carry the low with shoeh Otani? But
(35:42):
everybody was clicking, And it's not just so much about
Show here, but about the fact that Muki is in
the ball well and his confidence is high, and there's
gonna be more times when managers are going to say, well,
Tiny's not gonna beat me. MOOKI be ready in those opportunities.
I'm telling you they're coming. He's gonna be ready for
it on a high note. And hopefully it's not just
gonna be able to guys in the top, the guys
(36:03):
in the bottom, guys in the middle. Max Mossey is
huge who saw it again tonight? That is gonna take
this whole load and take it where it needs to
go by playing a well balanced game, keep that lineup
as long as possible, stretch it out, and know that
you gotta go out there and pass the baton once
in a while, because that does work.
Speaker 6 (36:20):
You heard the caller before our break, Hose in our
last segment, ask about Bobby Miller, and look, I thought
it was an interesting trade to bring in Alexis Das.
I don't see it turning into him being the All
Star again. I wouldn't be opposed to maybe going to
Bobby Miller now to see what you got, whether or
(36:42):
not you got a high leverage reliever in Bobby Miller.
Speaker 4 (36:45):
Would you Is it too soon for that?
Speaker 6 (36:48):
Do you feel like maybe we've seen what we're gonna
see from Alexis Das.
Speaker 4 (36:52):
Is it Miller time again?
Speaker 14 (36:55):
I think it's getting there. I think we know what
we have in Das. We see so what happened in
Triple A. His numbers than Triple A were not good either.
I mean, he's here based on need and he's been
giving every opportunity. Hopefully, with the opportunities he gets, he's
going to make things more interesting and make it better.
But there's options coming out of that you know off
the il too, that are going to be you know,
(37:16):
making some push and pushing some guys out. But Bobby Miller,
he could be a key car that you're holding on
to to challenge him in triple A to have some
swings and misses and find out why there's not been
more swings and misses the big league level with a
guy throwing ninety nine miles an hour and without standing
change up. But the time is uh now to say, hey,
(37:37):
this guy could be very important. And then the challenge
for a guy like Bobby Miller and tie them to
him too is like the change of scenery, the tinge
of mentality, and you want guys out of the bullpen
later in the season, and you want guys at the
bullpen during the playoffs in the postseason to miss bats.
And if he gets the ability to miss more best,
there's no doubt he'll be a key factor here. If
(37:59):
he continues to throw strong and get ahead on counts,
he's got the onre do it, he's got the blasty
to do it, and there's no doubt he's got that
hunger now to say I held my team here in
this way and I'm ready for it. Ready for the challenge.
Speaker 6 (38:12):
All right, Jose, we'll see if the Dodgers can get
the sweep with Tyler Glass now on the mound. You're
only as good as that next days starting pitcher, so
they got a good chance tomorrow. Look forward to seeing
you out here on a great Sunday at Dodgers Stadium.
Speaker 13 (38:27):
Yes, sir, all.
Speaker 6 (38:29):
Right, there he goes Jose Mota, part of the Dodgers
Spanish radio broadcast. That'll do it for us tonight on
the night edition of Dodger Talk. There was another one
this morning in case you missed it, live from Superior
Grocers in Huntington Park. You can find that two hour
episode on the iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 4 (38:49):
Miguel Rojas joined.
Speaker 6 (38:50):
Us for a hass half hour and also took some
phone calls, so you can enjoy that tomorrow if at
least the mingo for the Dodgers, Tyler Glass on the
mound going up against left hander Eric lower Morongo Casino
Dodgers on Deck begins at noon, first pitch at one ten.
The table has been set for Glass now last night
(39:13):
kershaw Tonight, Blake Snell. He's got to continue it in
the starting rotation and the Dodger offense has to continue
to pass the baton the way they did tonight, especially
in the sixth inning where they scored six runs to
blow this game open and beat the Blue Jays nine
to one, and they maintain a three game lead over
(39:35):
the San Diego Padres in the NL West. Thanks to
Colin Ye back at our Burbank studios. Thanks to Zach
lcaldy who is back in the studio earlier today, forgot
to thank him this morning.
Speaker 4 (39:47):
And thanks to Dwayne.
Speaker 6 (39:48):
McDonald out here at Dodgers Stadium, and thanks to you
for listening once again. The final score behind o'tani, Moncie
and Snell, the Dodgers defeat the Blue Jays nine to one.
Speaker 4 (40:02):
Have a great rest of your Saturday. Be safe. We'll
talk to you tomorrow. Seal wem to seal deal
Speaker 6 (40:12):
