Speaker 1 (00:01):
One thing about this gem is the invisible and tangibles
that they have.
Speaker 2 (00:07):
This team is really becoming a family.
Speaker 1 (00:09):
Let's not play one on Tom.
Speaker 3 (00:10):
Let's wind it.
Speaker 4 (00:11):
I love writing to these guys after the show.
Speaker 2 (00:13):
So just thank you, give me are.
Speaker 3 (00:15):
Your attention, your fire and not a pisson.
Speaker 5 (00:17):
This is world champion, Dodger, world championing for a small
soft time.
Speaker 3 (00:22):
They get up people, what they want to die to?
A two is special. I'm like, yeah, it's not a headache.
Speaker 6 (00:28):
One of a con.
Speaker 3 (00:30):
This ball's gone. You ready to go?
Speaker 5 (00:32):
Sure? Old time to the sound, grab your phone to
get in on the show called eight six six nine
eighty seven two five seven and go to the show.
And now your host of Dodger Talk, Tim Kakes.
Speaker 7 (00:46):
Now, this is what I'm talking about. This is the
Dodger team we've been waiting for. Good offense, good defense,
good pitching, and a shutout winning over the low Colorado Rockies.
Speaker 3 (01:01):
This is what I'm talking about.
Speaker 7 (01:03):
Dodger fans, Welcome to Dodger Talk here on five seventy
LA Sports eight and sixty six nine eighty seven two
five seventy is a number.
Speaker 3 (01:10):
Got a couple lines open up? You want to jump
on board.
Speaker 7 (01:12):
If you're leaving Dodgers Stadium, you're one of the fifty thousand,
eight hundred and five in attendance tonight for show. Hey Otani,
Bobo ahead, night man. You saw a good one. Lots
of offense, great pitching, great defense, and the Dodgers get
the shutout win, their eighth of the year. The Dodgers
Mookie Betts electric right now, hitting three point fifty two
(01:35):
with the ninet eighty seven ops, seven home runs, twenty
six RBI in the last thirty two games.
Speaker 3 (01:41):
As the kids say.
Speaker 7 (01:42):
I'm old enough to remember when, Yeah, I'm old enough
to remember when Mookie Betts was struggling and could night
find his swing. Hell, he has founded and more as
he is red hot right now, and hopefully he can
just hang on to this offense and how hot he
is for a few more weeks and carry it into October. Meanwhile,
(02:03):
the Dodgers starting pitching has been absolutely fantastic, And I
loved what Blake Snell said in postgame just a little
bit ago. He said they're feeding off each other, and
he said, yeah, it's almost like a competition amongst the starters.
If one guy goes out and does well, and the
(02:24):
next guy goes out. He wants to do weekly as well,
not let down his team. Okay, it's two in a row.
The third guy wants to go out there, doesn't want
to be the guy that gives it up and has
a bad outing. He puts up another good number and
a good outing and passes it on to the next
guy and to the next guy. And that's how it's
been for the Dodgers. The last six starters go back
(02:45):
to Otani in Pittsburgh.
Speaker 3 (02:49):
What or on Friday night in Baltimore?
Speaker 7 (02:51):
Excuse me, the spots start that he got because glass
Noow's back three and two thirds, no runs, five strikeouts.
Speaker 3 (03:00):
I'm a moto.
Speaker 7 (03:00):
On Saturday night, took the no no into the ninth
inning one out of way, ends up allowing one run
in eight and two thirds while striking out ten. How
about Clayton Kershaw pitching into the sixth inning allowing two
runs on four hits and striking out eight. On Sunday again,
one start to the next, to the next. And on
(03:21):
Monday night, Tyler Glastow said, why don't be the guy
that gives it up.
Speaker 3 (03:24):
I'm gonna keep this going.
Speaker 7 (03:26):
Seven innings, no hits, allows the one run, eleven strikeouts. Okay,
last night, imachine, I'm not gonna be the guy. I'm
gonna go out and deal seven innings, one run, three hits,
nine strikeouts. Okay, to the next guy, Blake Snell, and
he accepted the challenge and delivered with six shutout innings,
(03:51):
just two hits he scattered along the way and striking
out eleven.
Speaker 3 (03:55):
Now is this gonna last forever? No?
Speaker 7 (03:58):
But this is what I'm talking about, really good, effective,
at times dominant pitching for the Dodgers, plenty of offense
and taking care of business defensively like they're supposed to.
Speaker 3 (04:11):
This is championship baseball.
Speaker 7 (04:14):
This is the twenty twenty four Dodgers that we saw
a year ago. And I can make the case even
better because last September and October, the Dodgers didn't have
this kind of starting pitching this time of year ago,
the Dodgers were mixing and matching and patching together starters
and openers and bullpenning games just to claw their way
(04:36):
to twenty seven outs in a game every night in
October as well. Right now, the Dodgers got plenty of
starting pitching, including maybe too much starting pitching with rookie
Susaki coming back to town and ready to go, but
there may be not be any spots for him in
the rotation.
Speaker 3 (04:56):
As it is, they're going with a six man rotation.
Speaker 7 (04:59):
And good timely hitting with guys starting to heat up,
and a team that's getting healthy. Finally, we're starting to
see this Dodgers team at full strength. Max Munsey not
in the lineup tonight because of the left hander Kyle Freeland,
but in the lineup last night. He's back, and tonight
Tommy Edmond back in the lineup for the first time
(05:23):
and what over a month plus, Tommy Edmund in center
field tonight goes one for four, getting back.
Speaker 3 (05:32):
Into the routine of things.
Speaker 7 (05:34):
This Dodgers team's getting healthy. This Dodgers team right now
is starting to click on all cylinders. You don't want
to peak too soon, but certainly you want to start
feeling good about the way you're playing here. As we
flipped the calendar October in a few weeks, this Dodger
team leaning in division and now with the win tonight
(05:56):
and the Padres losing Dodger fans, the Dodgers a three
game lead with sixteen to play here in the regular
season eight six, six, nine, eight seven two five seventy.
We're gonna hear from Jose Moda coming up in just
a little bit. We'll get to your phone calls in
just a second. You heard Dave Roberts in the Clubout show,
And if you're at the game, you're probably wondering what
(06:16):
the world is Ben Rortvat catching for I thought it
was supposed to be Will Smith. He was introduced as
to starting catcher and they did the lineups before the game.
Speaker 3 (06:24):
He was warm him up Blake Snell.
Speaker 7 (06:28):
Well Will Smith's right hand, which had swelled up on
the road trip member he got hit with the foul
tip foul ball off the hand. Well, he was back
in the lineup last night. Tonight's scheduled to be behind
the plate, and in warm ups it started to swell
up again, so they pulled him from the lineup and
put Ben Rhortvatt.
Speaker 3 (06:46):
In to the starting lineup.
Speaker 7 (06:49):
Now, like you, I was looking up Ben Rortveatt a
week ago, Like you, I was wondering how long can
they go with Ben rhortvav behind the plate.
Speaker 3 (07:02):
Well, don't look now, but Ben Rortvatt is a pretty
darn good.
Speaker 7 (07:07):
Defensive catcher, and tonight banged out a couple of hits, goes.
Speaker 3 (07:11):
Two for four, scores a run.
Speaker 7 (07:14):
I mean, that's like the ultimate cherry on top of
you get any sort of production from the catching spot
without a guy named will Smith behind the plate. But
Ben rortveatt tonight defense offense was great. But the job
he has done behind the plate working with this pitching staff, now,
you may say, well, come on, he's working with a
(07:35):
Hall of Famer in Clayton Kershaw. He's working with a
two time cy Young Award winner in Blake Snell. He's
working with the Unicorns show. Hey, Otani, he'd better be
doing good behind the Hey, it's not easy. You gotta
be on the same page as these guys. You gotta
know the game plan. You gotta know the hitters you're facing.
You gotta know the sequencing that the pitcher wants to
(07:57):
do facing these batters, first at bat a bat, first
time through the lineup, second time through the lineup.
Speaker 3 (08:03):
There's a lot that goes into it.
Speaker 7 (08:05):
It's not just Ben Vortvett that putting down or typing
in a pitch and if the pitcher shakes his head, yes,
they go with it and up throws a strike.
Speaker 3 (08:14):
Good for him.
Speaker 7 (08:15):
No, no, there's a little bit more that's put into
the nuances of catching in a big league game, especially
in twenty twenty five, and Ben Rortvett has filled in seamlessly.
I mean, think about what he has done in the
last what go back to Friday Night show, Hey Otani,
(08:36):
Go back to Saturday, Yamamoto on the mound pitching an
almost no hitter. Sunday. What happened on Sunday? Clayton Kershaw
pitches into the sixth inning, Clayton Kershaw effective eight punchouts,
two runs on four hits, working with a Hall of Famer,
(08:58):
making sure he navigated through that Orioles lineup at the
age of thirty seven. Then on Monday Night he gets
to start with Tyler Glass now on the mound, almost
catches another no hitter. Was a few outs away in
the ninth inning from being behind the plate for what
would have been his second no hitter in three days
as a starting catcher.
Speaker 3 (09:20):
That's not by accident.
Speaker 7 (09:22):
That's not just a oh wow, look who happens to
be behind the plate.
Speaker 3 (09:26):
It's Ben Rotvatt.
Speaker 7 (09:28):
He's a pretty good defensive catcher and watching him, watching
his working with the starting pitches.
Speaker 3 (09:37):
Look at Alex Vessia tonight.
Speaker 7 (09:39):
Vessia comes in with the bases loaded and one out,
strikes out, Mickey Moniac strikes out, Tyler Freeman goes crazy
on the mount with his primal scream. And then as
Rortvat's coming off the field to the dugout, there's Vessia
screaming at him, fired up with him, danking him forgetting
(10:01):
him through those two at bat with two strikeouts.
Speaker 3 (10:04):
He appreciates what ben Rotvatt did tonight. It's not a fluke.
Speaker 7 (10:10):
He's a really good defensive catcher, and he's been thrown
into a situation where more guys than not would not succeed,
would fail, would go out there and not only not
produce offensively, probably be scared, are than mines defensively and
worried they just go they go out there and mess up.
Speaker 3 (10:28):
He's done anything but that. He's been very impressive.
Speaker 7 (10:32):
Now the text messages I got saying, hey Kate's Dalton rushing. Who,
Hey Kate's Rtvett over rushing Rtvatt greater sign rushing. I
don't know if I go that far right now, maybe
you agree, Maybe you disagree. The last five games have
(10:52):
been pretty impressive defensively for what Ben Rotvett has done.
It's not just him, it's the pitchers, it's certainly the
game plan. It's everybody that puts together the game plan,
from Connor McGinnis to Mark Pryor and the entire analytical department.
It's everybody, but he's part of it. He's a big
part of the reason why the Dodgers starters have been
(11:14):
really good over the last six starts, including a night
in Blake Snell, and you heard Blake Snell say, yeah,
not only are we looking to compete with each other
as starters and go out and match what the guy
did it before, but also he applauded Ben Rortveatt and
said he did a really good job behind the plate.
The guy just warmed me up with my couple of
pitches before the first at bat of the game, and
we figured it out as we win. If he couldn't
(11:37):
have figured it out, you would have seen a lot
of frustration from Blake Snell. You would have seen a
Blake Snell out there shaken off pitches. Blake'stell in the dugout,
throwing his hands up and wanted to know if anybody
else is there to catch. Instead, they were in tune.
They were working very nicely together. They had a good
rapport back and forth pitcher and catcher. If we're not
if we're talking about oh man Ben Roetvetz doing this
(12:00):
and they're not doing that, and they're giving up this
and the pictures are frustrated here, we'd have a problem.
But the fact is we're not saying his name because
he's doing a really good job. I want to make
sure I say his name. I want to make sure
I prop up Ben Rotvett for the job he's done
behind the plate.
Speaker 3 (12:17):
He's been fantastic.
Speaker 7 (12:19):
He's been really good in a situation that most guys
would have failed.
Speaker 3 (12:24):
Let's go back out to Dodgers, Dave.
Speaker 7 (12:26):
Before we get to your phone calls, let's hear from
Vetti Ben Rotvett.
Speaker 4 (12:30):
Well, then, first just kind of out, when did you
find out that you were going to be coming into
this game and having to catch for Blake Snow.
Speaker 8 (12:38):
I think six fifty five. I'm thinking about like ten
minutes for the game. I got a little warning that
Will wasn't feeling great.
Speaker 5 (12:45):
So.
Speaker 8 (12:47):
OK, yeah, they foll me when I woke up from
a nap and then I just kind of showered, stretched
a bit. He was ready to go, and then got
word after he finished his bullpen and just met him
on the bench. Try to get to be as quick
as possible. I never really I haven't really talked to
him that much even this week, so just trying to
(13:08):
hang with him. Honestly, he controlled most of the game.
He had a fantastic job. I was just trying to
do my best out there.
Speaker 3 (13:12):
What was what were you seeing from him?
Speaker 4 (13:14):
Just with this juff, how it was playing for him
to get through what one hundred and four pitches, just
kind of getting up there.
Speaker 8 (13:20):
Confidence, just a confident man up there, Knowsley wants to
do his faith in all his pitches.
Speaker 5 (13:27):
He's got four good.
Speaker 8 (13:27):
Ones, so it's a it's a tough day at the
play if he's honing in just about it. Changed up
was really good, putting in a good place. Fastball was
just fastball. Fantastic job.
Speaker 1 (13:40):
With what you've seen out of the starting kitchen. Like
I guess the last week, what's you're feeling on these
you guys go forward here against the San Francisco twice
in Philadelphia.
Speaker 8 (13:52):
Yes, Sky's the limit with this group, I mean starters
leading the charge here I've seen this week. I mean
there's sky's the limit. Everyone's got plus stuff. These guys
are confident, they're hungry, and it's about time we're gonna
get going.
Speaker 7 (14:07):
All right, there's Ben Roardvett. Don't get me wrong. The
starters are really good. He is part of it. Though
it's like dancing. It takes two to tango. It takes
both partners to work together in unison out there in
a baseball game. And that is what has gone so
seamlessly here these last five and six starts, going back
(14:29):
to Shoe Aotani's start on Friday night, they have worked
really well together. Whether it's wrought Vat with Snell, whether
it's rot Vat with Kershaw, whether it's rot Vat with
Class now, it has worked beautifully together. And you can
hear the calmness in his voice. I saw him doing
an interview with Sports in at La the other night,
(14:51):
in fact last night on the pregame show. The dude
is just calm. The guy is just very slow, heartbeat, calmed,
a meaner obviously, doesn't get too up or two down,
just that steady beat and you can have a guy
that behind the plate and it'll make the starting pitcher
feel so much more at ease. I can't say enough
(15:13):
about the job he has done. And then a couple
of base knocks tonight scores a run. I mean, what
a night for Ben Roortvatt starting to get to know
him a lot better and certainly certainly have been a
big reason why the Dodgers have strung together now four
wins in a row. Certainly the offense around him and
the big guys getting it done, and the starting pitching
a factor as well. Eight six, six, nine, seven, two
(15:33):
five seventy to go out to the phones real quick
before we take a break and check in with Jose Mota.
Jasper leaving Dodger Stadium tonight. Jasper, did you get me
a show?
Speaker 2 (15:41):
He o, Toddy Bobblehead, I sure did, Timmy.
Speaker 6 (15:45):
It was an electric night today at Dodgers Stadium. The
boys took care of business, and you gotta take care
of business against teams like the Rockies. That's how you
win a division. Now, this starting pitching has been awesome.
They can't be stopped. They're passing the baton next man up.
They're gonna go out there, and they're gonna give you
(16:06):
ten punchies. I think Jack in the Box might be
in trouble for all these jumbo jets that they're giving
out right now. Now, this Dodger offense did everything they
needed to do to win this game in the second inning,
and they knew it. And then they remember, chicks dig
the long ball. I dig the long ball, and Mookie
(16:27):
and Tale also dig the long ball. They put the
spit shine on that series and on this home stand. Well,
let's go beat those Giants.
Speaker 7 (16:35):
All right, Jasper, appreciate the phone call. Eight sixty six
nine eight seven two five seventy. The starting pitching has
been fantastic. The Dodgers starters have absolutely done their job,
and the Dodgers' offense starting to perform. Dodgers getting healthy.
It just feels like that snowball effect. Instead of the
snowball rolling over you and you feel like you can't
(16:55):
get from underneath it out of the way, it's the opposite.
It feels like you're sitting on top of that snowball,
riding it out, just crushing everything underneath you, and you're
unstoppable in the moment. And let's hope it continues for
the Dodgers. Bruce also at the game tonight, Bruce Jasper
got me my ball was so we're good, you don't
need to bring me one.
Speaker 3 (17:15):
I appreciate it, though.
Speaker 1 (17:17):
What to be DC. Very encouraging game. First of all,
shout out to Ben Roadblock. He's preventing runs. I love it.
I just hope he makes enough money to buy a
Volve so I could pronounce his name. Welcome back, Alex,
Welcome back Tommy. I think the best, the most encouraging
(17:39):
thing I saw tonight was Tao went to right field
three times that they were outs, but he took the
ball the other way and pot has left that bat
got a knock the right field. Looking at this series
coming up with the Giants, I think this is where
we're going to see if we got what it takes
to turn it up Turbo. The last two series that
(18:02):
we slept, we slept the Padres and then went two
and two on the road against the Rockies.
Speaker 3 (18:08):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (18:09):
Then we swept the Reds at home and went on
that horrible road trip. So we bottomed out in Baltimore.
We came home, we slept Colorado. What happens and we
could place we could play the Giants in the in
the wildcard round. If we don't catch the Philly that's
a playoff team. We got to go up there and
(18:31):
win two out of three. Oh have to if we're
for real, have to and I have to.
Speaker 3 (18:36):
Go up there. Went two three person.
Speaker 7 (18:37):
I appreciate the phone call man, thanks for timing. You
have to go up there, mini of them, take two
or three from the San Francisco Giants, because the Padres
have the Rockies for four beginning tomorrow night at Petioll Park.
The last thing you want is the Padres catching fire
this weekend and taking it out on the Rockies for
four games or winning three or four. You have to
(19:00):
win two of three in San Francisco. You have to
keep this lead. You have to maintain at least a
two a three game lead moving forward and hopefully build
on it. But it can't get any smaller. You can't
play this game of sweep. The Rockies lose this series
in San Francisco. This can't be that. This can't be
(19:22):
the way that happens because the schedule is tough down
the stretch. Phillies, you got the Giants again, you got
the Mariners. The final weekend of the season. You have
to take care of business in series. Winning series, the
rest of the way is mandatory because I think if
you win the series each time moving forward, you'll be okay,
(19:46):
You'll be alright winning the division. I don't think this
Dodger team's got enough left to catch the Phillies unless
they can sweep the Phillies and then somehow get some
help after that. But maintaining this lead in the division
is a must. With sixteen to go, now for the Dodgers,
in a three game lead over the Padres eight six, six,
(20:06):
nine eighty seven, two five to seventy, We'll take a break,
we'll come back, We'll hear from Jose Mota.
Speaker 3 (20:10):
We'll get to some more of your phone calls. Good
night for the Dodgers.
Speaker 7 (20:14):
Fifty thousand and eight oh five, got a bobblehead of
show Hey Otani, and then they saw Blake Snell deal it.
Six shutout innings, struck out a season high eleven. Mookie
Betts goes deep with the Grand Slam, had five ribbies
on the night, Pajas drives in a run, Show Hey
drives in a run, tay Oscar goes deep. A good
(20:35):
night for the Boys in Blue, a nine nothing shutout
over the Rockies. Coming up your phone calls and Jose

for the Dodgers as they pick up their eighty second
(22:16):
win of the season. And as Tim never mentioned, the Dodgers,
if they were to lose every game still moving forward,
they would still finish with a winning record. As the
Dodgers now for the fifteenth consecutive season, we'll have a
winning record on the year and hopefully a long October
coming up for the Boys in Blue as they now
(22:36):
sit three games up on San Diego with sixteen to play.
Speaker 3 (22:40):
Let's check in with Jose. It's time to go around
the horn with Hose Moga.
Speaker 7 (22:46):
All right, Jose, A lot to get to But I
was talking about Ben Roartvett and the job he did
at the plate tonight, going to for four, scoring a run.
That's great. That's a cherry on top. If you get
offensive production from that catcher, it's a night. But what
he did tonight, what he has done over the last
six starts working with this great starting pitching that the
(23:07):
Dodgers have. I don't want to understand. He's done a
really good job, hasn't.
Speaker 2 (23:11):
He, Jimmy Kates? Is there great to be talking about
a guy that nobody knew about just ten days ago
in a group of superstars. By what he's done, right,
that's how baseball teaches, he meant, I see, he's a
good example for young players and young kids. Hey you
mean I'd be the most recognizable guy or the big
name guy. But you are a big part right now,
he's a big part of this turnaround if he consider
(23:33):
the fact that there's a couple of things that we
like about him. He can play a small game, which
we've been asking for for a long time. Right he's
an option for you know, manager Dave Robertson getting a
bunt down, puts the ball in play, breaks some bats
here and there, but he presents well when guys missed.
And let me tell you something, learners from Petro Martinez
and Roger Clemens. If I miss by two three four
(23:55):
inches six inches, and I see that my casuer persent's well,
I'm going to say to myself, you know what, I
didn't miss by that much. But if he if he
slammed the glove and throw it away and you know,
just kind of swat at it, then sometimes you don't
get that feel as a picture.
Speaker 1 (24:10):
Right.
Speaker 2 (24:10):
He does a very good job with that. Number two
is when he blocks, he finds the ball, immediately goes
after Danny finds a runner. So that's the indication to
me that he's aware, I'm the fundamentals of the game
and what he needs to do to go out there
and stop the run. And you know, not having guys
advance on him because they at he's going after the
ball immediately, and things like that are very important convincing
(24:30):
guys I want to throw. That demeanor is important too,
because that calmness that you need to have as a
is a catcher and sometimes turn it up. It's it's
really kind of a balance sing act mentally for a pitcher.
If he's a little to him to if he sees
you coming to the mands like gay man, you know what,
everything's cool, It's just done. It all. It really all matters.
I mean the dodge overall. Consider that. You know, if
(24:51):
you look at the RBS production between will Smith and
and Dallon rushing has been tremendous combined. But to see
somebody like this, it just gives you another option in
case things don't turn out well, because you never know
what's gonna happen. Come to late part of the season
and into October.
Speaker 7 (25:04):
I loved what Blake Snell said postgame, and he kind
of joked and said, hey, man, I've been watching what
these guys have been doing the last five nights before me,
and I can't let them down.
Speaker 3 (25:14):
I got to go up and match that.
Speaker 7 (25:16):
I got to go up and put Zeros on the
scoreboard as well, and he did it for six shot
out and he's a season high eleven.
Speaker 3 (25:22):
I like that.
Speaker 7 (25:23):
I like that competitive. Hey, the other guy in the
rotation just did his job. I gotta feel like a
responsibility to do my job.
Speaker 2 (25:30):
Absolutely, this goes back to when baseball started. You got
to keep that line moving. We talk about the line
moving only on the offensive side, but pay attention to
what happens on the mound. I mean, going back to Dommoto,
his job over in Baltimore's Shohio Tani. You know on
also a last minute deal, finding out at two o'clock
that he's pitching and he's taking the ball. Kirschkisn't child.
I mean you go after you know Tyler Glasnaal got
(25:52):
frot back a little missed up there and then you
know she And it's just great to see guys knowing
that their their best, their peak and all the information
you have about other hitters. You got to trust your stuff.
You feel the zone and the good things happen. I mean,
Dadier's about gotten a lot of punchouts which they should
have against Colorado and for Blake's and no all to
talk about you know that it's it's good. The competition
(26:13):
is good on the pitching side of the bullpen side.
Who wons those big inning. I think this competition right
now and now that we talk about it, Tim that bullpen,
it's a good thing. It's a good thing to say,
hey man, it's going to be a time when the
ross is going to be cut down, and you know,
going into October, I want to be a part of it,
and also I want the big inning, so I think overroll,
that's what the big dogs throwed up last season because
the guys knew when to step up. So yeah, competition
(26:36):
all the way around makes you better.
Speaker 7 (26:38):
You mentioned the at bats that some of these guys
had tonight, and I look at Mookie Bets and the
he is swinging a hot bat, hitting over three fifty
is last thirty two games tonight, four for five, drives in,
the five runs, hits, the Grand Slam. I mean you
talk about being locked in. He is locked in right now.
I just hope he can keep some of this going
into October. And this isn't just a one or two
(27:00):
two week thing right here. Is this something he can
carry into the October for the next monkey thing?
Speaker 1 (27:05):
Oh?
Speaker 2 (27:05):
Absolutely, I mean seven sixteen to go. I'll take sixteen
right now, you know, and then let October take care
of October by consider this also, Tim, consider that he's
been playing his best defense. As it's bad, has gotten
better too. Coincidence there, No, it's not. It's the freedom
of saying, hey, now it's not, am I really a
short up or min outfield? All the talk about going
(27:26):
to the outfire, Now I know who I am. I
know that I'm the same player. Obviously, he's gotten a
little bit stronger, there's no doubt. But also the conference level.
I know there's been a couple of tweeks that the
Mookie's talked to me about having made with a swinging approach,
the finish is better. There's swings with conviction, there's no
there's early lazy flyball outs in favorable accounts and all
(27:46):
those you know, all that goes to also pitch selection
and on understanding what the league's doing against you and
putting on the play accounts are out. Man if Dave
Roberts said this two weeks ago, it's all about competing,
putting investment forward and from Miki, I mean, what on
lifting provice with this buck leve along with Jaska. When
those two guys see it, it's a different ball theme.
Speaker 7 (28:06):
The Dodgers are going to see the Giants seven times
in the last sixteen games.
Speaker 3 (28:11):
A few weeks.
Speaker 7 (28:11):
Ago we were talking about no more matchups against the Padres,
I mean September, they won't even see each other. And
now the Giants are out of it. It's gonna be
the Giants and Lowly Rockies here in September. I love
the fact that Giants, well, instead of ten, there are
only two games back now for that third wild card
spot in the National League, and we got seven really
important head to head games beginning Friday night in San Francisco.
Speaker 3 (28:33):
I love this.
Speaker 2 (28:35):
It's gonna be wonderful. I mean, if there's not the
Powers the Giants, going back to the whole tradition all
the way back to New York and bring on the
Giants because you know that you have to play well
against him. You're landing up nicely with a rotation coming
up Stone with the Yamamoto and on Friday night, but
also with a team that when they last saw them,
they were not really clicking them because they were without Tapman.
They had just gotten Devers. Devers was not really in
(28:55):
all Simmer's yet he's gotten hot Chapman's back. Obviously, leave
playing some good baseball will be Dominsis. Play square, so
your hands are full, go out and control every control.
Don't let you go with the series. So you've got to,
you know, beat them out the way. You have to
to make sure they're separation. Because there's nothing the Jazz
will love bar than to what take care of the
Dodgers right and make it impossible. So go out to
(29:16):
be the aggressive that's the one thing they play it
against Colorado as the aggressor not as the team is
pinting out. Let's you know they come up. No, you
play with the same intensity and think about the same
way the Giants are playing and bring it on to
them because you need to get off to the start
right away, no.
Speaker 7 (29:30):
Doubt about it. Jose, great stuff. Great to talk to you,
and we'll check you out a couple of days. Okay, man,
all right, there he goes Jose Mota talking Dodgers tonight
and they're nine nothing victory over the Colorado Rockies. Dodgers
clicking right now, starting pitching. Over the last five games,
the Dodgers starters have wracked up forty nine strikeouts while
holding their opponents, the Orioles and the Rockies to an
(29:52):
ninety one batting average. It's the only time in the
modern era of any MLB team starters that they've notched
forty five plus strikeout with a sub one hundred opponent
batting average over a five game span. Tonight, Blake Snell's
turn six shutout innings, struck out eleven and he got
plenty of run support. We talked about what Mooki Betts
(30:13):
did of course, Mookie the Grand Slam in the eighth inning.
Mookie bets the RBI double in the second, a four
hit game, his twenty sixth career four hit game. He's
heating up, and so is ta Oscar Hernandez, who has
hit three home runs in the last two games. He
hits a solo shot tonight in the eighth his twenty
fourth of the season. Let's hear from ta Oscar after
(30:35):
the game tonight out of the.
Speaker 4 (30:36):
Stadium to ask for that's not back to back games
with home runs just when you look at I know,
yesterday we talked about kind of the patient that the play,
looking to see the right pitches. But when you have
back to back games with positive results, is that a
good sign for you personally?
Speaker 10 (30:47):
Yes, I definitely feel really good at the play right now.
You guys see, I'm not chasing out of the strikes on.
I'm trying to execute my plan, trying to get a
good pitch, trying to put it on play, not trying
to do too much like I always say when I'm
good and you know, just trying through the damage and
held the team.
Speaker 6 (31:06):
Do you feel like you're kind of starting to turn
the corner here?
Speaker 1 (31:08):
A little bit, hitting some balls really a long ways
and hard the last couple of games.
Speaker 10 (31:12):
Yeah, I definitely feel really good. You know, my bats
are being better, being fighting, getting good at bats, and
that's what I want right now. I want to feel good. Uh,
you know, for the rest of the season in the playoff, are.
Speaker 1 (31:24):
We going to get a better feel for where you
guys are? Maybe after this series in San Francisco.
Speaker 6 (31:29):
We got some momentum right now, but it was Baltimore
and it was it was Colorado.
Speaker 10 (31:32):
Yeah, I mean they're you know, you have to play
the same way the matter the team that we're facing
that day. But definitely that now that we got getting
all the players back and we feel like a team again,
hopefully say that way and we keep doing what we're
doing right now.
Speaker 7 (31:50):
Absolutely, I think to Oscar and Ed has just said
it perfectly. We're getting our guys back, We're getting our
team back together. We're feeling like the team we're supposed
to be.
Speaker 3 (31:57):
But as you said, they got to keep going.
Speaker 7 (32:00):
As they go to San Francisco now this weekend Friday, Saturday,
and Sunday for a three game series against the Red
Hot Giant, Well that's.
Speaker 3 (32:07):
Gonna do it. For Dodger Talk tonight.
Speaker 7 (32:10):
Many thanks to Colin Ye for all his help pre
during in postgame. We certainly appreciate it. Thank you to
all you Dodger fans for being a part of the show.
Thank you for the fuck kind words. Unfortunately, Brad Paisley,
no time for you tonight. Maybe we'll get to you
next time. But the Dodgers certainly had time tonight to
take care of business against the Colorado Rockies. They put
(32:31):
up a ninth spot against Kyle Frielan and this Rockies
pitching staff, Plake Snell put up zeros. Their six innings
turned it over to the bullpen. They put up zeros
as well as the Dodgers their eight shutout victory of
the year, a nine nothing victory over the Colorado Rockies.
They sweep the Rockies and now they've won four in
a row. It was sixteen to play. The Dodgers a
(32:54):
three game lead in the division over the Padres. Day
off tomorrow, then it's off to San Francisco to start
a three game series against the Giants. Yoshinobu Yamamoto justin Verlander,
we'll get to start in the series opener on Friday,
Morongo casino Dodgers on dekets. It all started at six,
first pitch at seven fifteen. Until then, please have a
safe rest of your Wednesday nights.
Speaker 3 (33:14):
So long, eybody,
