Welcome to Dodgers on Tap. Now your host walking you
up to first pitch.

Speaker 1 (00:41):
Tim kays We Hi, everybody, and welcome in to Molrongo
Casino Dodgers on Deck, your official Dodger pregame show. I
hope you're well on this Saturday afternoon early evening as
your world champion Dodgers fifty eight and forty on this season,
first place atop the nl WES, but a Dodgers team
that's trying to gain it's offensive identity, having scored just

(01:02):
two runs or less than seven of their last ten games.
They have lost eight other last ten games to night
they look to turn things around on Fernando Valence. We
have a Bobblehead night with Emmett Sheen getting the start.
First pitch from Dodger Stadium is coming up at six
to ten. Between then and now, we got a lot
to get to coming up. We're gonna hear from the
Dodger manager Dave Roberts will dive deeper into this pitching matchup.

(01:24):
David Vats is gonna go one on one in thirty
minutes with Dusty Baker. Then we'll hear from Dalton Rushing
coming up in forty five minutes. We got your Dodgers
magical moment. Shortly, we'll visit with Kirsten Watson. In a
just a few minutes, we'll head out to the Gallpin
Motors broadcast booth with Steven Nelson and James Loney. Yeah,
the lone Dog on the call tonight and tomorrow. Well,

(01:45):
last night, good pitching, but zero offenses. The Dodgers got
shut out at home. Tyler Glasnow got the start and
the Dodgers first game back from the All Star break.

Speaker 2 (01:54):
In the right hander pitch well six innings.

Speaker 1 (01:56):
He allowed just one run on four hits while striking
out six along the way. The only run that Tyler
glass Now gave up was in the fifth, the lead
off walk to Isaac Collins. Two batters later, Caleb Durbot
and Rbi double down the left field line and the
Brewers took a one to zhing lead. The Dodgers offense, meanwhile,
was held in check all night, just three combined hits.
One of those hits, though, another milestone reached.

Speaker 2 (02:17):
For Freddie Freeman, three to zero.

Speaker 5 (02:20):
He's got a green light and he ropes a base
hit toward the right field corner. It gets by Yelich
all the way to the wall. Freddy Freeman makes the turn.
Yellis with a double clutch, couldn't get it out of
the go up quickly enough. Even if he did, it
wouldn't matter. It's a stand up double for Freddie Freeman.
And with that double, Freddie Freeman pulls into a tie
with the Iron Horse lou Gerrick all time doubles chart

(02:43):
forty second all time.

Speaker 2 (02:46):
Double for Freddy Freeman in the fourth.

Speaker 1 (02:48):
That's the top tier play of the game, brought to
you by Arco Quality, top tier gas for less. As
the guys mentioned, his twenty six double this season, Number
five hundred and thirty four of his career. That puts
him now tied with David Vasse said it Lou Garrett
for forty second all time on the MLB doubles list.

Speaker 2 (03:03):
The Dodgers offense the rest of.

Speaker 1 (03:04):
The way didn't do much despite having the leadoff runner
on the second, sixth, and the seventh any last night,
they go zero for nine with runners on base. The
Dodgers hitters struck out of combined ten times down one nothing.
In the seventh of Dodgers were facing the Brewers with
Kirby Yates on the mountain relief and he made a
mistake with two outs to guess who yep, Caleb Durban.

Speaker 6 (03:25):
Oh.

Speaker 5 (03:25):
Last year the Dodgers, they lost eight of eleven going
into the All Star Break, including six of the last seven,
but they came out of the All Star Break winning
five in a row. I'm trying to replicate that here.
In twenty twenty five, three to two pitch hit well
center field. Pat has on his horse on the track
at the wall. It is gone. Caleb Durban having a
night at Dodgers Stadium. He goes to dead center field

(03:49):
to double the Brewer lead. He has driven in both runs.
It's now two to nothing Milwaukee solo home run.

Speaker 2 (03:57):
For Caleb Durban.

Speaker 1 (03:58):
He was a man, one man offensive for the Brewers
last night as they go on to beat the Dodgers
two to nothing.

Speaker 2 (04:03):
Quinn Priester ten strikeounts.

Speaker 1 (04:05):
He combined with three relievers to shut out the Dodgers
for just the fifth time this season. Dodgers now zero
to four against Milwaukee. They've lost the season series, no
matter what happens tonight and tomorrow, and with the loss,
Dodgers now fifty eight and forty on the season, still
first place atop the NL West, but their lead just
four and a half games over the Padres.

Speaker 2 (04:25):
Immit shean.

Speaker 1 (04:26):
He gets the ball on this Saturday night, first pitch
A six ten and with more we head out to
the Galpin Motors broadcast booth as we say hello to
Stephen Nelson.

Speaker 2 (04:34):
And James Loney.

Speaker 7 (04:35):
Guys, all right, Tim, appreciate it.

Speaker 5 (04:36):
It is a lovely Saturday afternoon, a special day, Saturday
afternoon and evening here at Dodgers Stadium. Fernando Valenzuela babblehead night.
We're going to talk about Fernando in just the moment,
but here with James Loney for the first time doing
some pregame work together. James are gonna be calling the
next two games for the Dodgers against these Brewers as
they try to bounce back and takes this series. I'm

(04:58):
curious to your general thoughts about the series opener last night,
because I think the general thought, or perhaps more so,
the general hope for Dodger fans was that, Okay, it
wasn't pretty going into the break slumping, especially offensively, but
a couple of days to catch your breath, we'll get
right back at it, get some payback on these Brewers.
But then they get shut out for the fifth time

(05:19):
this year, the first time since June sixth, and just
three hits against the Milwaukee staff who they haven't really
been able to touch all year long.

Speaker 7 (05:26):
So what were your takeaways from last night into today?

Speaker 6 (05:29):
Yeah, now, it's great to be here with you for
the first time and definitely looking forward to this. You know,
I did the pre and post game show last night,
and the things that we noticed, you know, the way
they're attacking the hitters wasn't the typical the way that
we've seen it lately. A lot of times they're going
front door, they're going front door cutters, front door breaking balls.
So I feel like the Brewers are in this strategic

(05:49):
way of saying, look, the old way hasn't worked a
lot of times. Right down in a way is usually
what you attack hitters. You know, seventy fast walls are
down in a way, give them a single. The other way,
I saw this attack saying, hey, look, we're not afraid
to come in. We'll come inside with fastballs. We'll throw
front door breaking balls. We're trying to throw their game
off and make them swing the bat, you know what
I mean. Dodgers have such a good eye at the plate,
so I just really feel like, hey, we're gonna make

(06:10):
them swing the bat, but we're gonna change it up.

Speaker 5 (06:12):
And obviously the Dodgers, you know, they didn't get that
memo beforehand, and they couldn't make that adjustment in the game,
and it was a tough luck loss for Tyler Glass now,
but still a chance for the Dodgers to bounce back
and take this series. So, you know, I'm curious as
a player, you went through All Star breaks before, Yeah,
how long did you did you feel personally that it
took you to get back into the swing of things.

(06:34):
Because again from the layman standpoint, it's like, all right,
they were able to reset and recharge, like get back
to hitting right now.

Speaker 7 (06:40):
But how long did it take for you to get
back into it?

Speaker 6 (06:43):
I mean mentally, you know, I always felt like I
was ready coming back that day. You know, I think
it also depends on how you were playing leading up
to the break. Guys that are usually playing really well
feel pretty good going into you know, going into the
second half. You know, Guys that are struggling make go
take some hacks in the cage, you know, may see
some live pitching, whatever it is that gives them that
confidence to get back out here. But obviously, just me,

(07:04):
you know, speaking for myself, Hey, I'm back in the box.
This is like even like spring training day one, Like
I feel like I'm ready mentally.

Speaker 5 (07:10):
Yeah, So Mookie Bets is not in the lineup today.
I suppose we shouldn't have buried the lead. That's on me.
But the that was where I was kind of getting
at with it, because you know, the Mookie was looking
forward to the break, and yesterday it seemed like more
of the same for Bets, the frustration, the lack of productivity,
and so Dave Roberts is giving him tonight off, and
he said potentially Sunday off for Mukie and that I

(07:33):
think some alarm bells are really going off now with bets,
given how much his struggles have continued.

Speaker 6 (07:39):
Yeah, I think it's more you know that he's not
getting a lot of hard contact. We've seen some deep
fly balls being caught. You know, we know his weight
has been down. I don't know exactly where his weight
is right now, but you know, he's not a guy
like Show Hey, where you know, Show he can miss
the balls and the balls are going to go out
Show he can miss the balls, they're going to go
in the gap. So you know, obviously Mookie is such
a great hitter overall, and you know he's gonna get

(08:00):
pitched to just like Show Hey, just like Freddy. So
they're gonna, you know, pitch him tough. But you know,
I think he's got to get back to just really
you know, letting it rip. And like I said, there's
times where you kind of see like is he is
he holding off the swing a little? You know, is
he just trying to put it in play in between? Yeah,
and then like with two strikes, you know, people as
asking did you swing softer? It's like, no, maybe chunk
up a little bit. Maybe you know somehow your batspeat

(08:23):
is a little less. But it's like we're still letting
it rip. We're still trying to hit the ball hard.

Speaker 3 (08:26):
Right.

Speaker 6 (08:26):
Softer you hit the ball, you know, the better chance
that fielder has to field it.

Speaker 5 (08:30):
Yeah, all right, so Moki's gonna get a breather. Will
Smith will bat second behind Otani and in front of
Freddie Freeman, as the Dodgers will send Immachi into the
mound to take on Freddy Peralta of the Milwaukee Brewers
on a night where Dodger Stadium and Dodger Nation is
celebrating El Toro Fernando Vealezuela, the late Dodger legend, on
his bobblehead night. We'll get it back to you, Tim,
and then a little bit later we'll hit James Loony for.

Speaker 7 (08:51):
Some keys to the game here in game two.

Speaker 1 (08:53):
All right, thank you Nelly, thank you Loan Dog, as
we can continue to count your dad in the first bitch.

Coming up. You'll hear from the manager, Dave Roberts.

Speaker 1 (09:13):
We'll check in with David Vatas say he'll go one
on one with Dusty Baker. We'll hear from Dalton Rush
and we'll dive deeper into this pitching matchup.

Speaker 2 (09:21):
But I'm next.

Speaker 1 (09:21):
You're Tani Rewind and we'll visit with sports and at
LA's Kirsten Watson. That's all coming up as we lead

Bobble Ahead Night.

Speaker 2 (09:32):
First pitch coming up at six y ten.

Speaker 1 (09:34):
I'm Tim kass the World champion Los Angeles Dodgers Audio Network.

Speaker 4 (09:40):
This is Morongo Cassino Dodgers Hunting game on your home
for LA Dodgers Baseball.

Speaker 1 (09:49):
Dodgers and the Brewers, Game two of this three game set.
Image Shean and Freddy Perralta. The pitching matchup. First pitch
coming up at six ten. This is the Otani Rewide
Well Show. Hey Otani oh for three last night at
the plate for the Dodgers and the lead off spot.

Speaker 2 (10:08):
Dodgers only had three hits.

Speaker 1 (10:09):
They struck out of combined ten times as the Dodgers
dropped the first game back from the All Star break
last night, getting shut out by the Brewers.

Speaker 2 (10:17):
Tune to nothing.

Speaker 4 (10:18):
This is Kirston's Corner with Kirston Watson.

Speaker 2 (10:23):
Hey, Kirson out joins us from the stadium.

Speaker 1 (10:25):
Brought to you by Cars for Kids. Ready to donate
your old car? Call eight seven to seven Cars for
Kids right now. Friendly agents are standing by to take
your donation. That's Cars with the K to donate your
car today. I'm afraid to use the K word as
a Dodger struck out ten more times last night. They've
struck it out forty seven times in four games against
the Milwaukee Brewers. We'll get into the offense in a second,

(10:46):
but looking at the lineup, Kirston, no Mookie bets.

Speaker 8 (10:50):
Yeah, no Mookie bets today. And look, you've said it.
The results have not been ideal for the offense as
a whole, and for Mookie just he's been in it's
fair to say in an offensive set that has been
longer than he's ever been used to, and so for today,
Dave Roberts was saying that this was not a scheduled
off day. There are times, of course, we see that
during the year, but they are coming off of a

(11:10):
four day All Star break. He was not in the
All Star Game this year, so he was able to
go back home to Nashville, so he is coming off
of four days of rest. But Dave was saying when
he saw just kind of the offensive perform or the
lack of offensive performance yesterday, kind of just some of
the emotions. He's been working really hard in the cage,
working through some mechanical things, but right now he's just

(11:32):
not himself, and so he's finding that it's just kind
of building on him at the moment, and so he
felt that today was a day that he just wanted
to give him time to watch a baseball game. Yes,
there again the argument he was down just four days
for the All Star break, but you're not watching baseball
during that time. So for him today to still be engaged.
He did a bunch of pregame work, whether this is usual,

(11:54):
doing defensive work, doing some swings in the cage. He
did all of that. So now it's just a day
to watch a baseball game and hopefully give himself a
moment to reset. Dave does expect him to be in
the lineup tomorrow, but he also said that there is
a chance that they might give him two days just
to kind of reset. So we'll see. But for Mookie
right now, it's just you know, some of the mannerisms

(12:16):
and some of just kind of your We love to
see him smile when he's out there doing his best,
and right now you're seeing just that frustration kind of
compounding on itself. So hopefully you just have a data
reset and then get back out there and get going.

Speaker 1 (12:28):
Well, no Mooky in the lineup, but it's gonna get
even tougher against Freddy Parol. To mention at the forty
seven strikeouts in forty games against Brewers starting pitching, They
for whatever reason have this Dodgers offenses number, and they
gotta get going one, two, three guys top the bottom.
Somebody's got to get going offensively.

Speaker 8 (12:45):
No exactly, somebody's gotta get going. And right now, Dave
was just saying that he feels that as an offense,
they're just not hitting the ball hard right now, and
when the team is struggling, you obviously see a bit
more chase, and so they're not hitting pitches that they're
used to getting. So right now you're just kind of
seeing this struggle. And it's not just one player. Of course,
Usually you know you have one player who's scuffling and
everyone else at least is in a good spot kind

(13:07):
of floating. But right now there are multiple guys who
are trying to keep their head above water. It's when
you have multiple guys who are slumping, it just feels
like nothing can go right. They're grinding, they're getting they're
trying to get things going. The hitting coaches excuse me,
are working very hard with the players, so hopefully today
will be the day.

Speaker 1 (13:25):
Hopefully today is the day that the offense gets going. Kirsten,
appreciate it. We'll check out with you after the game.
Still to come. Here, I'm Morago Casino, Dodgers on Deck.
We dive deeper into this pitching matchup. David Massa goes
one on one with Dalton Rushing, and you'll have a
visit with Dusty Baker, Yes, one of the legends of
Dodgers baseball in town this weekend.

Speaker 2 (13:43):
What up next? We get you an injury report and
we hear from.

Speaker 1 (13:46):
The manager himself, Dave Roberts is the Dodgers and Brewers

Tim Kasey's the world champion Los Angeles Dodgers Audio and Network.

Speaker 4 (13:57):
This is Marongo Casino Dodgers on on your home for
the Blue all season long.

Speaker 1 (14:06):

Speaker 4 (14:23):
The LA Dodger Injury Report.

Speaker 1 (14:27):
Presented by UCLA Healthy Official medical partner of the Los
Angeles Dodgers.

Speaker 2 (14:30):
No Mookie Bets in the lineup.

Speaker 1 (14:32):
He's just having a night off, is Ciristen to Watson
a little too more on that with Dave Roberts coming up,
He's okay, just a mental break to get right and
get some techniques and things worked out at the plate.
Ke Gey Hernandez on the IL. Max Monthy on the
IL but he's trended in the right direction. Michael Kopek
has begun to throw after having a brief minor knee

(14:52):
injury surgery. Tony Gonsolin, Blake, Snell Blake trying it all,
working their way back off the sixty day I l
a right, we have back out to Dodger Stadium and
check in with the Dodgers skipper.

Speaker 6 (15:04):
Questions for Dave.

Speaker 4 (15:05):
Dave, can you just describe Dave?

Speaker 3 (15:07):
Can you talk about the pressure.

Speaker 4 (15:10):
In the dugouts with Dave Roberts.

Speaker 9 (15:14):
I think in totality it's just, uh, we're just not
really hitting the ball hard. There's you know, obviously when
a team's struggling, you know what happens. There's there's more chase.
You're not hitting pitches or ending at bats when you

(15:36):
when you should, then there might be some bad luck
as far as some Adam balls. But for the most part,
you know, the last few weeks you look up and
down our lineup, there's only a you know, a few
guys that are you know, have their head above water
as far as kind of on the production side. So

(15:58):
I think just offensively, we just got to kind of
take one at bat at a time and just take
it at bats and expect some things to turn. But no,
guys are trying to find their way and they will.

Speaker 10 (16:12):
Surprising just about how mongst some.

Speaker 8 (16:15):
Of these guys, whether it's ready or similar, like the emits.

Speaker 9 (16:18):
Is on the line on today, Yeah, it is.

Speaker 3 (16:20):
It is.

Speaker 9 (16:21):
It's surprising in the sense that if you look at
all these guys, the extended funk slump, whatever they're in,
they're they're elongated, they're longer than we're used to from
these guys. So and it all comes it's all happening
right now. So it is. It is a surprise. We

(16:43):
are facing some good pitching, but every night we're not
facing Cy Young, so I think we all understand that.
But yeah, I mean they're still grinding, you know, the
hitting coaches are working hard, that the players are working
hard to hopefully, you know, tonight, you know, put some
runs on the board against a really good pitcher.

Speaker 1 (17:03):
Hopefully tonight is tonight against Freddy Peralta, who is on
the mound for the Brewers. When we continue here on
Moroco Casino, Dodgers on deck, we will check in with
David vad Say as we lead you up to first pitch.
Dodgers and the Brewers first pitch, Dodger Stadium on Fernando
Valenzuela Bobblehead Nights coming up at six ten. I'm Tim

(17:24):
Kates's the world champion Los Angeles Dodgers Audio Network.

Speaker 4 (17:30):
As we were saying, this is Marongo Casino, Dodgers on
Deack on the official home of La Dodgers Baseball.

Speaker 1 (17:41):
Here's the Dodgers and the Brewers on Saturday night. And
she and Freddy Parral to the pitching match up first
pitch coming up at.

Speaker 4 (17:47):
Sixten joining Tim Kates on Dodgers on Deck.

Speaker 11 (17:52):
I accept everybody for who they are.

Speaker 4 (17:54):
This is Dodger inside there, David Bass all right.

Speaker 2 (17:58):
D V Special Night at a Dodger Stadium tonight.

Speaker 1 (18:01):
Last night was cool with Ron Say being introduced and
inducted into the Legends of Dodgers Baseball, one of those
members no longer with us unfortunately.

Speaker 2 (18:09):
Fernando Valenzuela being honored tonight.

Speaker 11 (18:12):
Yeah, it's his babblehead night, but this is more than
just about a babblehead tonight. Fernando's family is going to
be honored before the game tonight, and down the left
field line on the loge level, there is a space
for murals. The Dodgers have had a couple of different
murals down that left field line on the Loge level

(18:32):
where there's a circular bar area by the Nike store,
and they painted a mural of Fernando Valenzuela, and that's
going to be there for a very long time. His
family was there, his former teammates were there. It was
a private ceremony about three o'clock this afternoon, So a
lot of different ways the Dodgers are honoring the memory

(18:52):
of Fernando Valenzuela, who passed away right before the World
Series last year, and the Dodgers, and another way of
recognizing Fernando and his legacy, continued to wear the number
thirty four on their jerseys this season. So it's gonna
be great to have his family here. And you'll hear
from Dusty Baker a little bit later in the show

(19:13):
about what Fernando meant to him and his teammates.

Speaker 1 (19:16):
Tavid has brought to you by the twenty twenty five
four f one to fifty from California's best selling truck.
It's time to see four in a new light for America.
From America, No Mookie Bets in the lineup, Dave, is
this a mental thing? Is this a mechanical thing? What's
going on Mooki right now?

Speaker 11 (19:35):
Well, you heard Mooki on the pregame show yesterday. He
is really down on himself right now. Confidence is at
an all time low. I haven't seen Mooki this unconfident
about himself in a long time. And he goes through
peaks and valleys. That's what teammates tell me as far
as his confidence, which is, I know, it's really hard

(19:55):
to believe considering how good he is and how everybody
says whatever. He he's great at, whether it's bowling, golf, pickleball, baseball,
but this is his worst season in Major League baseball.
His ops is below seven hundred, He's hitting two forty.
He was over last night. And at this point, Tim,

(20:18):
it's not about mechanics. It's about the mental part of
the game. And you know, he had four or five
days off. He tried to tinker with his swing in Nashville.
It didn't work. Dave Roberts and the hitting coaches are
probably going back to work during the game tonight. I
know the last time he had one of these days off,

(20:38):
spent three hours in the batting cage working on his swing. So,
I don't know, I feel like it's a little counterproductive.
If I was Dave Roberts, I would order him not
to pick up a bat until the next time he plays.

Speaker 1 (20:50):
What does he tell the rest of this line of
David that is struggling not to pick up a bat
because it seems to be contagious right now, up and
down this lineup, there's just not a lot of production.

Speaker 11 (21:00):
Yeah, but it was a good sign to see Freddie
Freeman last night take a couple of walks.

Speaker 2 (21:03):
He doubled.

Speaker 11 (21:04):
He tied Blue Garrick for the most or fortieth most
doubles in baseball history. So there were signs of live
from Freddy last night. But Otani continues to swing big
in situations where you don't need a swing big. And
this Dodger offense, tim as you know, it's not going
anywhere without Otani. Betson Freeman, and so far this year,

(21:27):
we just haven't seen them click at the same time.

Speaker 2 (21:30):
Yeah, it's been frustrating. All right, DV appreciate it.

Speaker 1 (21:33):
We'll check back in with you in just a couple
of minutes. David's gonna go one on wall with Dusty Baker.
As he mentioned, also we'll hear from Dalton Rushing Dodger catcher.
Lots to get to, including next our magical moment Dodgers
and Brewers on this Saturday night.

Speaker 2 (21:45):
First bitch coming up at six ten.

Speaker 1 (21:47):
I'm Tim kay sister World Champion Los Angeles Dodgers Audio Networks.

Speaker 4 (21:53):
Well, this is Morongo Casino Dodgers Hunting game on your
home for LA Dodgers Faceball.

Speaker 1 (22:01):

games sent from the Ravine em Shean on the mound.

Speaker 2 (22:06):

Speaker 3 (22:10):
Do not all game without a hot dog? Who wents
a hot gun?

Speaker 4 (22:15):
It's time for the Hawfe Magical Moment. Pitch Magical presented
by Hawpy Hot Dogs.

Speaker 1 (22:22):
Oh you go back to October sixteenth, twenty eighteen, out
of Dodger Stadium, Game four of the National League Championship Series,
Dodgers taking.

Speaker 2 (22:32):
On the Milwaukee Brewers.

Speaker 1 (22:33):
The Brewers tied the game at one in the top
half of the fifth inning, and then it was zero's
through the ninth inning. The game went to extras, Nobody's
scoring the tenth, nobody scoring the eleventh nobody scored in
the twelfth. The Brewers would not score in the top
half of the thirteenth inning, but in the bottom of
the thirteen, up came Cody Bellinger, gar on three.

Speaker 3 (22:54):
And two to Bellinger.

Speaker 4 (22:55):
Here's the pitch, cround ball base hitting the right field
on his way home through to the plate on.

Speaker 2 (23:02):
The Dodgers will win it.

Speaker 11 (23:06):
They win it two to one, and the series is
all even at two games a piece.

Speaker 2 (23:13):
Fellinger with the walk off smashed to right. Machado stores
at first slide. The Dodgers win in thirteen.

Speaker 4 (23:24):
And now the NLCS is the best two out.

Speaker 1 (23:27):
Of three, a game that took five hours and fifteen minutes,
as the Dodgers in thirteen innings beat the Brewers two
to one to win Game four of the NLCS. They
would win Game five, lose Game six at Miller Park,
and then win five to one Game seven of victory
over the Brewers in the twenty eighteen NLCS to advance

(23:49):
to the World Series. This Hofey Magical moment brought to
by Hoffey hot Dogs Hoffey so Cow's local treasure for
nearly one hundred years. Hofey hot Dogs Local so Great.
Will we continue here on Dodgy on deck. We will
check back in with David Vasday, who goes in depth
with Dusty Baker. Believe you have to first pitch on
this Saturday Dodgers and Brewers. I'm Tim Kas's World champion

(24:10):
Los Angeles Dodgers Audio.

Speaker 4 (24:11):
Nowork, this is Marongo Casino, Dodgers on dech on your
home for the Blue all Season Low.

Speaker 1 (24:24):
It's the Dodgers and the Brewers on this Saturday night image.

Speaker 2 (24:27):
She and gets to start. Freddy Peralta on the mound
for Milwaukee first pitch coming up at six ten time.

Speaker 1 (24:32):
Now for the Verizon startup as we are over thirty
minutes away from the start of the game. Now, Verizon,
you can lock in your low price for three years
so you can save big. Visit the Verizon store. Today
we have back out to Dodgers Stadium. It is Legends
of Dodgers Baseball weekend with Ron Say being inducted last night,
the ninth member to get into that club. Dusty Baker

(24:53):
part of that club and he's standing by with David Vesay.

Speaker 11 (24:57):
Well, it's a special weekend here at Dodgers Stadium. Runs
I Say honored last night and obviously today Fernando Valezuela
being honored at Dodgers Stadium and enjoined by a man
that is so beloved wherever he goes. I mean, the
resume is so long, so I'm just gonna put it
with one word to describe Johnny b Dusty Baker winner.

(25:17):
Everywhere he went, he won, and it started here in
LA with the Dodgers in nineteen eighty one. Dusty, thanks
a lot for the time, and it's always great to
have you back at Dodger Stadium.

Speaker 3 (25:27):
Well think it's always great to be back.

Speaker 12 (25:28):
And you know something, one of the reasons I enjoyed
my time in Atlanta, thank Aaron and Ralph Ghar and
all of them. But I really wanted to win, and
I was just so happy that they sent me to LA.
You know, my childhood team, and you know, the Dodgers
meant winning, and you know, I can't stand losing. And

(25:50):
one of the best things, like I said, but one
of the best things that happened to me in my
life is.

Speaker 3 (25:54):
Sending me to LA because we won, and we won
in a big way.

Speaker 11 (25:57):
Hey, only a few guys could say they won a
World Series as a player, and we're a manager when
they won the World Series too.

Speaker 12 (26:04):
You know something somebody else told me that, but I
don't know who else.

Speaker 3 (26:07):
Who else did it? Dude?

Speaker 11 (26:08):
Do you have to know who one guy was sitting
next to you last night?

Speaker 3 (26:11):
Mike Soosha?

Speaker 12 (26:12):
Oh yeah, oh yeah, How can I forget that?

Speaker 3 (26:16):
I won't tell him.

Speaker 12 (26:17):
Well, you can tell him because he's the guy that
beat me out of one, my first one.

Speaker 3 (26:21):
But that's okay.

Speaker 12 (26:22):
You know my teammates social that I had a lot
of you know, respect for. I don't know how I
could have forgotten my sosha. But uh, it's great weekend.
It's great to see all the guys that I played with,
you know, see Garvey and and Royce and Darryl Thomas
and you know Dave Anderson today, you know some of
the guys that you know, Bill Russell and Penguin last
night and today. Uh, it was it was heartfelt with

(26:46):
the Fernando and veiling man. I mean it was great man.
And uh, you know the artist Vargas is unbelievable because
I hadn't seen, you know, too much of his art
and uh uh you know the guys that were here,
you know, really appreciated it. His family appreciated it. I
didn't know he had so many grand grandchildren, all girls,

(27:08):
and uh, you know, just you know, it does my
heart good that you know, we're celebrating something, you know,
for such a great man, Fernando Venezuela.

Speaker 11 (27:16):
We know what he did on the mound and how
much he meant to you guys on the field, But
what was he like behind the scenes. I heard about
this last so he.

Speaker 12 (27:23):
Had, well he had a last so he'd give you
a hot foot with some matches.

Speaker 3 (27:27):
He'd tap you on the.

Speaker 12 (27:28):
Shoulder and guys were like, oh, yeah, he's from Mexico.

Speaker 3 (27:31):
He's older than he said. No, he wasn't.

Speaker 12 (27:33):
He was a kid, and he acted like a kid
anytime other than when he was on the mound. When
he's on the mound, he acts like a man. But
off the field he acted like a kid. I mean
he'd crack you up, he'd do something crazy. And I
remember the time I saw him doing that hackey sack.
I don't know if you remember the hacky sack man.
He could keep that thing going for like thirty minutes,

(27:53):
and I was like, man, I mean he could do
everything but run and only thing he couldn't do. I
mean anytime, any game, but Hannah eight coordination he was.
He was excellent at it. But you know, but you know,
he just couldn't run and that was the only that
he could hit field.

Speaker 3 (28:08):
Do you name it. I mean, you know, he was
an athlete.

Speaker 11 (28:11):
Rick Monday always tells us how protective you all were
of Fernando his first year. Do you remember having that
kind of protective feeling towards.

Speaker 3 (28:19):
Him, Well, certainly.

Speaker 12 (28:20):
I mean he was like, like, you know, like our
little brother. And you know, we made sure, you know,
nobody took advantage of him. You know, made sure nobody
took advantage of him because he was just learning English,
because of his age, and you know, we made sure
that you know, girls didn't take advantage of him, you know,
because you know, the stardom that he was just coming

(28:42):
up on and in a very short time, and uh,
you know, we just you know, we took care of him.
We took care of him on the field, off the field,
you know, make sure that you know, he didn't you know,
he wasn't old enough to go to the clubs or anything.
All the bars even you know, we sneaking of a
beer too every once in a while.

Speaker 3 (29:01):
But you know, that was about it.

Speaker 11 (29:03):
Hey, Dusky, I got a great story for you, speaking
of the clubs. I was walking in New York when
Davey Lopes was a coach with the Dodgers. We were
on the trip together. I run into him and he said, yeah,
I'm just taking a walk. I said, yeah, where was
Studio fifty four? He knew exactly where it was.

Speaker 12 (29:17):
Well, we all knew where it was. We all knew
where Manjique was. I mean, we all knew where all
the spots were. But you know, I mean we were
we were a team on and off the field, and
you know, we had a you know, we had a
great time. And you know, I look at you know,
Pedro Garrell, he's walking by right now, and see he
was just a couple of years older, maybe than Fernando,

(29:38):
because you know, he was one of our kids coming
up to him. Mike Marshall, Candy Monnado.

Speaker 3 (29:44):
I mean, we had.

Speaker 12 (29:45):
Guys coming David Anderson. I mean, you look at it,
Mike Marshall, Steve Sachs. I mean we had a bunch
of young warriors coming up, Jeffrey Leonard that we ended
up having the trade half of them.

Speaker 3 (29:57):
But I mean that was a mega class of of.

Speaker 12 (30:00):
Young players, and they actually made us better because we
were all conscious that they're trying to take our jobs,
and so that made us play better by having competition
for our jobs.

Speaker 11 (30:10):
That's the great voice of a great man, Dusty Baker.
All right, So you're done with baseball. You show up
wherever they need you in San Francisco or La or Houston.
So how do you get your competitive juices?

Speaker 3 (30:21):
Now?

Speaker 11 (30:21):
Does the wine you have a winery? Does that get
things going for you?

Speaker 3 (30:25):
Well?

Speaker 12 (30:26):
Yeah, I have a winery that's work, it's also fun
at the same time. It's called Baker Family Wines out
of Sacramento. And you know, I grow some raw grapes
on my property. But you know, nothing, nothing takes the
place of competition and getting your competitive juices out there
on the field.

Speaker 3 (30:42):
And you know, you can.

Speaker 12 (30:43):
I've tried a lot of different things, but you know,
nothing really satisfies me other than kind of watching my
son play and and you know, there's nothing. You know,
it's very little, like I said, very little substitute for competition.

Speaker 11 (31:00):
Bakerfamilywines dot com.

Speaker 12 (31:02):
I would imagine, oh dot com, you got that right.

Speaker 11 (31:05):
You got to get on the list long list right
to get that veno from Dusty Baker.

Speaker 3 (31:09):
Not really, I got All you gotta do.

Speaker 12 (31:10):
Is just go on internet, and you know, if you
don't come by the winer, we can ship it to you.

Speaker 4 (31:15):
All right.

Speaker 11 (31:15):
I'm gonna get mine shipped, and there might be a
hole in my bottle, so I might need to get more.

Speaker 12 (31:20):
Hey who put the hole in there?

Speaker 3 (31:24):
All right?

Speaker 11 (31:25):
Man, that's the greatest I've known since I was a
kid man. Great guy and hasn't changed the bid and
certainly a special person that everybody loves.

Speaker 3 (31:34):
So thank you. Thank you.

Speaker 12 (31:35):
When I come back here and I see you now
as a man, and I think about Joe McDonald and
you were too always you know, together, you know, And
I think about the great media and press guys that
we had here, and it was a lot of fun
and everybody had the same goal in mine.

Speaker 3 (31:51):
Was to win.

Speaker 11 (31:52):
You're a winner. Thanks a lot, Dusty, and we'll check
out Baker family wines, that's for sure. Love seeing you
out here and come back more often. I'll pay for
the flight if Steve Brenner won't.

Speaker 3 (32:03):
Hey, man, Steve got enough mighty pay for it. There.

Speaker 11 (32:06):
He is the great Dusty Baker, the winner of the
Dodgers in nineteen eighty one and also World Series manager
with the Houston Astros.

Speaker 2 (32:14):
We'll send it back to you, Tim.

Speaker 1 (32:15):
All right, thanks a lot of DV the great Dusty Baker,
what a great Dodger and a great baseball mind. Dodgers
Baseball is brought to you by the California Community Colleges.

Classes can fill quickly, so role today and I can
go to college dot com. Still to come here On
Dodgers on Deck, we'll get your preview of this pitching matchup.

with Dalton Rushing lead you up to Dodgers and Brewers
on this Saturday, first pitch of six ten. I'm Tim Kaysister,
World champion Los Angeles Dodgers Audio Network.

Speaker 4 (32:53):
As we were saying, yes, is Marongo Casino Dodgers on
tack on the office. I'll home of LA Dodgers Baseball.

Speaker 1 (33:04):
This Dodgers and the Milwaukee Brewers on this Saturday night,
I mean Shean and Freddie Perrault to the pitching matchable
dive deep into those numbers coming up in just a
little bit. Dodgers Baseball brought to you by Shaky's Pizza Parlor,
the official pizza partner of the Dodgers audio broadcast. When
it's game night, it's group night at Shaky's dot Com.

Speaker 4 (33:21):
And now what will likely be vast a fielding insults
from a Dodger player.

Speaker 2 (33:26):
It's an engagement of endearment.

Speaker 4 (33:27):
This is high and tight.

Speaker 11 (33:29):
We're here with one of my favorite guys. That's Dodger
catcher Dalton Rushing. Dalton, thanks a lot for the time appreciated.

Speaker 10 (33:35):
It's always fun to talk about, eh.

Speaker 11 (33:37):
I always started, you always finish.

Speaker 3 (33:39):
Yeah, you're exactly right.

Speaker 11 (33:41):
Hey, I've been talking to some veteran pitchers that have
gone to the minor leagues for rehab assignments, and they've
talked about the automated strike zone. You're familiar with it
more than most guys up here. What's your feelings about
how it may work in the big leagues.

Speaker 10 (33:57):
Yeah, I think, uh, I think there's a chance that
for sure makes its way here.

Speaker 3 (34:02):
Uh.

Speaker 10 (34:02):
It kind of gives everyone a baseline. There's no more
of the argument of, oh that's a ball, that's a
strike either either side. I think there's gonna have to
be some tweaks for sure.

Speaker 5 (34:14):
Uh.

Speaker 10 (34:15):
I'm not one hundred percent sure whether it's gonna be
picture friendly hitter friendly. I guess that all kind of
determines or is it's gonna be determined based on how
they make the zone. Are they gonna change it, are
they gonna shrink it, make it bigger. I do think
it'll be beneficial for the big leagues. Uh, it'll take
a lot of the complaining about umpires, complaining about crucial

(34:40):
calls and big spots. I think it just kind of,
like I said, makes it makes it fair to both sides,
and both sides have their right and have their honor
to tap their head and challenge the call if they
want to full disclosure.

Speaker 11 (34:52):
The guys I've talked to about it are only pictures,
so I don't know how hitters feel, but pictures feel
that three ball count hitters are not going to swing correct.

Speaker 10 (35:04):
It's gonna it can make some pictures run away from
the zone. Uh. But at the same time, it's I
think that's what builds the craft of pitching in a
world like today. I think nowadays we're seeing the offensive
side of players go down every year. You're seeing a

(35:30):
smaller sample size of power throughout the league. You're seeing
a lower batting average throughout the league year after year
as these obviously pitchers continue to develop and pictures have
been nasty for years, but it's it's almost starting. It's
to the point where one hundred miles an hour is

(35:51):
normal now. So it's like I said, it's taken a
little bit of a offensive hit for the big leagues.
And I think that's why MLB wants to make this
move to the automatic strike zone, and you get guys
in the zone a little more. When guys are in
the zone, what happens, Guys hit the ball. And when
guys hit the ball, fans are happy. But yeah, I

(36:11):
don't I don't think it's I don't think it's going
to alter the game too much. I do think like
I said, though, I think it just brings a little
fairness to both sides of the ball.

Speaker 11 (36:20):
All right, Before I let you go, that was incredible
insight on what's to come. The future may be closer
than we ever thought. You and the baseball season. It's
a grind. I'm not going to ask you are you
having fun? But are you enjoying the grind?

Speaker 10 (36:35):
Yeah, it's it's still baseball. It's things haven't went the
perfect way for me as far as results, numbers, stuff
like that. It's like I said, it's baseball. It's I
tell myself every day when I put my head on
the pillow, when I get up out of bed, it's

(36:56):
I want things like this to happen now so I
can learn from them.

Speaker 2 (37:00):
It's I just turned twenty four years old.

Speaker 10 (37:02):
It's I got a lot of time in this game
in the future, and I don't have much time being here.
So if there's a time to learn, it's now. And
the role that I'm in allows me to learn a
lot easier than being thrown into the fire trying to
lead a team to win a World Series.

Speaker 11 (37:19):
Dalton Rushing has eclipsed my guy Alex Friedland as my
favorite player.

Speaker 3 (37:23):
Now there it goes.

Speaker 11 (37:24):
Dalton Rushing has been our guest and he will receive
a gift card to Boulevard Steak, the acclaim modern steakhouse

Freddie Peralta on the Mount eleven and four with a
two sixty six ERA, twenty nine year old right hander
of the Dominican Republic. Eighth season now in the Big leagues,
all with the Brewers fastball, changeup, curveball, the occasional slider.
Making his twenty first start this season. He's six to
zero in his last six starts. Last time out six
and two, thirty innings, run, three hits, seven strikeouts in

(39:02):
a winner with the Nationals. Dodgers saw him last week
in Milwaukee, six shutout innings, five hits, seven strikeouts.

Speaker 2 (39:08):
And getting the win.

Speaker 1 (39:09):
He is three and two at the two to seventy
five e and thirty six strikeouts in seven appearances against
the Dodgers in his career. Immit Shean on the mound
for the Dodgers, twenty five year old right hander is
one to zero with a two to zero three RORA.
He is finally healthy, missing last year because of Tommy
John surgery. Started this season on the injured list, but

(39:31):
made some minor league rehab appearances as Slow played his
way back. He's making his third start, fourth appearance, and
he's been really good every time out and continuing to
get better. Last time out, he piggyback show Hey last
Saturday in San Francisco, four to third innings, one run,
two hits, three strikeouts, and he got the victory against
the Giants. It's Image Shean and Freddy Peralta Dodgers Brewers

(39:54):
were fifteen minutes away for first bitch.

Speaker 2 (39:56):
He's to the game. Our next Tim Kates.

Speaker 1 (39:58):

shovel nearby to extinguish your campfire. For more about these
tips and to find out others, visit fire dot CA
dot gov. All right, back out to the booth one
final time before first pitch to two guys on the call,
Steven Nelson, James Lodi guys.

Speaker 5 (40:45):
All right, TC back here with James Loney on Fernando
Vealezuela babblehead night, Emmitt Chian for the Dodgers, Freddy Peralta
for the Milwaukee Brewers.

Speaker 7 (40:54):
The Dodgers trying to even the series. The key to
do that, James, is.

Speaker 6 (40:57):
What I think, attacking prawl too early. He's got, you know,
one hundred and eleven strikeouts this year, so you know,
getting to two strikes is going to be tough on him.
You know, with the league average is always going to
be less with two strikes, So I think jumping on
him early and getting a pitch we can drive.

Speaker 5 (41:10):
Freddy Peralta is trying to become the first pitcher in
Major League Baseball to get to twelve victories on the season.
He has been one of the best pitchers in all
the National League and the Dodgers will try and solve
the puzzle that they couldn't solve before the All Star
break in Milwaukee. First pitch from Emmett Shean to Bryce
Terrang in just a few moments, Tim back to you, all.
