Welcome to Dodgers on Deck. Now your host walking you
up to first pitch. Tim kase Hi.

Speaker 6 (00:42):
Everybody, and welcome into am old Wrongo Casino. Dodgers on
Deck on this beautiful Sunday afternoon here in southern California.
You're a world champion Los Angeles Dodgers fifty eight and
forty one on this season. Yep, that's good enough for
first place. It's out the l West, but the leading
division is starting to get a little smaller four and

(01:04):
a half games over the San Diego Padres. After a
shutout loss on Friday, the Dodgers lost again to the
Brewers last night. Today they turned to their stopper to
avoid getting swept again by the Brewers. Clayton Kershaw on
the mound. First pitch from Dodgers Stadium is coming up
at one ten. Coming up over the next hour here
on Morongo Casino, Dodgers on deck, we'll hear from the

(01:27):
manager himself, Dave Roberts, will dive deeper into this pitching matchup,
David Vase, it's gonna go one on one coming up
with Max Munsey that's coming up in forty five minutes.
Not gonna miss that. We'll also check in with dv
throughout the show. We'll hear from former Dodger Tim Belcher.
That's coming up in thirty minutes. Kirsten Watson stops by.

(01:48):
It's a busy hour, including in a few minutes, we'll
head out to the Galpamotors broadcast booth and here from
Steven Nelson and James Loney on the call today. Well,
last night it was a high scoring game. Unfortunately the
Dodgers came up on the short and again she ain't
got the start the Dodger right hender whin three Indians
gave up five runs on seven hits while striking out three.
The Brewers got to Sheenan in the top of the third,

(02:09):
a lead off triple followed by an RBI single. Two
batters later, Contrere's a two run single later in the
inning a sack fly. Just like that, the Brewers had
a four to nothing lead. However, in the bottom of
the third, the Dodgers would answer back, show hey Otani
a two run home run, his thirty third of the season.
Dodgers on the board, down four to two, Will Smith
then single Freddie Freeman.

Speaker 3 (02:29):
Will walk.

Speaker 1 (02:30):
Next batter taoskar.

Speaker 2 (02:32):
Al Parolta to pay things off, and Taskar Hernandez drives
the all to right center field carry.

Speaker 5 (02:37):
Back toward the wall.

Speaker 7 (02:39):
One hops off the wall. Smith's coming home stop sun
for Freddy Freeman. An RBI double for Taoscar Hernandez and
the Dodgers are within one.

Speaker 6 (02:50):
Taoscar Hernandez with the RBI double Dodgers down four to three.
Then Freddie Freeman scored on a wild pitch that tied
the game had four. The Brewers, though, took a five
or lead on an Isaac Collins home run over the
short right field wall in the fourth. The Brewers made
it six to four on a Caleb Durbin's RBI double
them this six. In the bottom of the inning, the
Dodgers pulled it within one. Tommy Edmond snapped an zero

(03:12):
for twenty nine skin with the single. Three batters later,
Show Hey an RBI single to left Dodgers down six
to five. Milwaukee, though, pushed it to seven to five
in the seventh when Andrew Vaughan hit a two out
RBI single. Then it was eight five in the eighth
on Joey Ortiz's home run. The Dodgers just tried to
play ketchup, couldn't do it. In the bottom of the eighth,
the Dodgers made it interesting though, Tommy Edmon a solo

(03:33):
home run Dodgers down eight to six.

Speaker 1 (03:34):
Two batters later, Miguel Rojas.

Speaker 2 (03:37):
On the one o Rojas hits it in the air
left field.

Speaker 1 (03:40):
This ball's back. This ball has bat of hair.

Speaker 7 (03:45):
Big l Rojas with a more slug second home run
of the inning for the Dodgers. It's now eight to seven.
Hold on now.

Speaker 6 (03:58):
Hey solo home run for Miggy row his sixth of
the season. That's the top tier play of the game.
Brought to you by Arco quality, top tier gas for less,
Dodgers down eight to seven, within striking distance. Unfortunately, that's
as close as they would get. Dodgers get to another
loss of the Brewers eight to seven. Freddy Peralta the
win image she and the loss. The Dodgers now zero
to five against Milwaukee this season. With the loss, Dodgers

(04:21):
now fifty eight and forty one on this season, still
really good, but they're deleting the division just four and
a half games over the San Diego Padres. Today they
look to put a stop to this losing with Clayton
Kershaw on the mound, first pitch at one ten and
with more we head out to the Gallpin Motors broadcast
booth as we say hello to Steven Nelson and James Loney.

Speaker 1 (04:40):
Guys, all right, Tim.

Speaker 2 (04:41):
There is a gloom on this Sunday at Dodgers Stadium.
Just specifically talking about the weather forecast, but I suppose
in a way you could also be talking about the
team the last few weeks here James Loney, as the
Dodgers have lost the first two games out of the
All Star Break, and they lost seven of nine going
into the break, and they're trying to avoid being swept
by the Brewers twice in the last couple of weeks

(05:05):
here in July. So, how are you feeling on the
heels of last night when we actually did see some
fight from the offense.

Speaker 8 (05:11):
Yeah, I know, we saw the offense have some great
at bats. You know, Emachin started out hot, right, he
was attacking the strikes. Own fastball looked really good. He
only had one walk last night, but he was falling
behind hitters, right, He was falling behind hitters. They got
some hits when he had to throw a fastball, and
you know, just adn't end to night that like he
wanted to.

Speaker 2 (05:28):
So now the Brewers have won nine in a row.
They're going to try and become the third or fourth
different team rather than the Majors, to win at least
ten straight games this year, but the first in the
National League. And for the Dodgers again, trying to snap
this little two game skid and the big shake up
to try and help them do that. Facing a veteran
left tender and Jose Kintana. Mookie Betts, who was el

(05:52):
Bencho last night, is not just back in the lineup,
he is back in the leadoff spot.

Speaker 8 (05:58):
Yeah, I mean, I like to see that right there.
Maybe you get him some more first pitch fastballs in
that situation, you can have show hey, bring him in,
and maybe it gives him this confidence.

Speaker 7 (06:07):
Right.

Speaker 8 (06:07):
You know, he was a leadoff hitter. He knows, Okay,
my job is to get on base, right, I need
to get a good pitch to do that with. Yeah,
you're gonna battle with two strikes, but the key to
hitting in the big leagues is getting hits before two strikes.
That's really how you get most of your hits. And
that's being patient, that's having an approach, and I think
Mookie Betts always has an approach. I think we've just
seen him gone going out at the strike zone a

(06:28):
little bit too much, you know, trying to get hits
versus as a hitter, I'm not trying to get a hit.
I'm trying to read the pitch and then my brain
tells me what to do, versus just swinging out of
the hand.

Speaker 2 (06:39):
And we've seen him get a ton of hits in
the leados spot in his career. He's got what fifty
two lead off home runs. It's the fifth most all time.
One shive of Craig Bigio the Hall of famer who's
in the fourth spot. I mean, unless we forget he
was playing at an MVP level or hitting as an
MVP when he broke his hand last Father's Day when
he was hit by a pitch, and so he hasn't

(06:59):
been back the leadoff spot since then. So this is
a chance for Mooki, I think, to get some energy
and James, if I might like you know, we're not
obviously not inside Mookie Bets's head, but it is very
clear watching him this year that he is the most
down we have seen him as a Dodger, and I
just I would love to see Mooki he has not
lost his passion for the game because he, as he says,

(07:22):
he loves the work. He loves the grind of trying
to figure it out. But I want to see him
have that joy again, have that fun back on the diamond.

Speaker 8 (07:30):
Yeah it's hard, right, It's hard to know what he's thinking.
There's times where you know, as a hitter, did I
just miss that pitch or was that not a pitch
I really should have swung at And a lot of
times you just go back to the video room and
see that and know for yourself. But I like him
facing Katana today, a guy that throws a lot of sinkers.
You know, Dodgers haven't hit great off singers this year,
but Mooky is a guy that can elevate that pitch.
Kantana's not going to overpower you, but he is a

(07:52):
good pitcher. Right to be a left handed pitcher in
this game that doesn't throw, you know, overly hard, shows
something about you, so he can pitch. It's getting your
pitch today and driving it.

Speaker 2 (08:02):
And in Bets's career against Kintana, he's nine for thirty three.
That's a two seventy three batting average, three extra base hits,
one home run, six strikeouts. So Mookie Bets elevated to
the leadoff spot to try and spark his twenty twenty
five season and try and help the Dodgers avoid a
series sweep at home at the hands of the Milwaukee Brewers. Tim,
we'll get it back to you.

Speaker 6 (08:22):
All right, thanks, Loton Nellies. We caunt you down to
first pitch. Dodger fans. Hey, it's lunchtime. Time to get
your game day meal on. That's Shaky's Pizza parlor. What
are you waiting for? What are your Shaky's Pizza chackin
Emojo's right now at Shaky's dot com. All right, coming
up here on Morongo Casino Dodgers on Deck. You're gonna
hear from the Dodger manager, Dave Roberts. You're gonna hear
from former Dodger Tim Belcher. You're gonna hear from current

(08:43):
Dodger maximun See. David Vase, our Dodger insider, joins us
throughout the show. Of course, we'll dive deeper into this
afternoon's pitching matchup up next, So you're otani rewind and
we'll visit with sports and at LA's Kirsten Watson. That's
all coming up as we lead you up to Dodgers
and Brewers on this Sunday afternoon first pitch of one ten.

Speaker 1 (09:04):
Thanks for being with us. I'm Tim Kase's the world
champion Los Angeles Dodgers Audio Network.

Speaker 5 (09:13):
This is Morongo Casino Dodgers hunting on a new game
on your home for LA Dodgers Baseball.

Speaker 6 (09:25):
It's Dodgers and the Brewers on this Sunday afternoon. Dodgers
all in two since the All Star Brank looking to
avoid getting swept by the Brewers this season after losing
three in Milwaukee. They're on the verge of getting swept
at home. Need a win today.

Speaker 1 (09:39):
Clayton Kershaw on the mount first pitch at one ten.
This is the Otani rewind and he's six for his
last forty five.

Speaker 2 (09:51):
First pitch, swinging high in the ear left center field.

Speaker 7 (09:54):
This polls back and it is gone, Oh my house.

Speaker 3 (10:00):
Strong or are you so?

Speaker 6 (10:01):
Hey?

Speaker 7 (10:01):
Old TONI three quarters of the way up the pavilion
to left center and a two run shot to get
the Dodgers on the board. It's now four to two,
tying runs on first and second. Two out the first
pitch and Otani shoots at the left field. It's down
for a base hit. Edmund has a green light. He's
hustling home. Harvey base hit for Otani and the Dodgers

(10:25):
are beck within one show.

Speaker 6 (10:27):
Hey Otani yesterday two for five with the home run.
That home run, by the way Stephen Nelson described it
opposite away left center feel four hundred and forty eight feet. Yeah,
he's got a lot of power. He had three ribbies yesterday,
now thirty three home runs, sixty three ribbies on this season. Unfortunately,
the Dodgers lost again. They get beat by the Brewers

(10:49):
eight to seven.

Speaker 5 (10:51):
This is Kirston's corner with Kirston Watson.

Speaker 6 (10:55):
Hey Kearson now joins us from the stadium. Brought to you
by Cars for Kids. Ready to donate your old car?
Call eat having seven Cars for Kids right now. Friendly
agents are standing by to take your donation. That's Cars
with a K to donate your car today. There's an
old saying the only way to make sense out of
change is to plunge into it, move with it and
join the dance. And well Dave Roberts is doing exactly that, Kist,

(11:17):
and he's changing up the lineup.

Speaker 9 (11:19):
He sure is. So Mookie Betts is going to be
batting lead off. Of course we've seen this before. We've
seen it quite a lot, especially in Dodgery Blue. But
even before his injury Lashroom which he fractured his hand,
he was the leadoff batter, and then Shohey of Tani
and then Freddie Freeman. Obviously, when Mooki went down with
the injury, Shohy then shifted up in the lineup and
when he returned they just kept it as that. It

(11:42):
did make a lot of sense, of course it did.
But with Mooki, how he's been struggling as of late.
Dave Roberts was saying, there's a part of it that
is a mechanical issue. There's another part of it that
seems to be just he's in his head trying to
kind of navigate all of these things. This is the
first time he's really struggled like this in his career.
He's such a talented player. He's a guy who works

(12:02):
so hard. He shows up for his team every single day,
and when you're not doing that, you know, things start
to kind of just pile on each other and it
becomes a cycle. And so trying to just shake things up.
We know that yesterday Dave Roberts gave him just kind
of a day to watch a baseball game, a mental reset,
and so today he has him batting lead off. Is
something we're going to be seeing for at least the

(12:23):
next few weeks. Dave said that he wants to run
this until Maximunsey returns and then he'll kind of reevaluate
and decide what he wants the batting.

Speaker 1 (12:31):
Order to look like.

Speaker 9 (12:33):
But it's really just Mookie can go into each at
bat just with the mindset of getting on base.

Speaker 1 (12:39):
Just get on base.

Speaker 9 (12:40):
Obviously show Heyo, Tani's behind him today, it's going to
be show Hey, then Taoscar then Freddie Freeman, just with
a lefty on the mound. So if he can just
have that mindset, maybe get a little out of his head,
just kind of focus on the little things. Hopefully obviously
this is one day. Hopefully things will take a step
in the right direction. He can get going. But I
think the thought is just one day at a time

(13:01):
and let him get back on track.

Speaker 6 (13:03):
Speaking of getting on track, Max Munsey appears like he's
hit the fast forward button. He's progressing really well, isn't he.

Speaker 9 (13:10):
He really has, And you know, obviously when we saw
him go down with that knee injury, everyone was in
the moment. Seemed like it could have been a season
ending injury. It was rather scary. But for it to
have just been a bad bone bruise, obviously it was
going to take some time. Those bone bruises we have
seen with other players, they tend to linger and it
tends to go into the next season. So for Max,

(13:31):
just the fact that he's taking swings in the cage today,
he was taking some rounders on the field. He looks
really good. The hope is he's since he's trending so well,
Dave said that they think he could be back in
a matter of like a few weeks give or take.
So the hope is by the end of next week,
so the next weekend slash early the following week. Dave

(13:51):
was saying that he could either be starting his live
taking part in live vps or hopefully then going out
on his rehab assignment. But they feel really good as
to where he's at, and once he gets his rehab
assignments and then he'll be good to return.

Speaker 6 (14:05):
Hopefully Max can get back on track quickly help out
this lineup which desperately needs a Joel dar right, Kirst,
do we appreciate it. We'll check in with you after
the game is still to come. Here on Dodgers on Deck,
David vad Say goes one on one with Max Munty.
Well up next, we'll get you an injury report and
we'll hear from the Dodger manager himself, Dave Roberts. It's
the Dodgers and the Brewers on this Sunday afternoon. First

(14:26):
pitch of one ten on Tim Kates is the world
champion Los Angeles Dodgers Audio.

Speaker 5 (14:31):
Network This is Marongo Casino Dodgers on Deck.

Speaker 1 (14:40):
On your home for the blue all season long.

Speaker 6 (14:44):
Morongo Casino Dodgers on Deck continues on this Sunday as
we lead you up to first pitch, Dodgers and the
Brewers Morongo Casino Resort and Spa a grand Slam for
good times. Clayton Kershaw on the Mount Jose, Cantana. We'll
go for the Brewers first pitch coming up at one ten.

Speaker 5 (15:00):
This is the LA Dodgers Injury.

Speaker 6 (15:04):
Report wheresented by UCLA Healthy, official medical partner of the
Los Angeles Dodgers. Some good news for Blake's noew. He
is set to get the start for the Oklahoma City
comments in Triple A first pitch coming up in about
forty minutes and another rehab assignment for Blake's now so
he is progressing and training in the right direction. Blake
trying it also in Triple A Oklahoma City. He is

(15:25):
training a couple of days ago. Rokie Sasaki got an
update from Dave Roberts on the right hander that is
looking like a late August return for Rokie. Michael Kopek
training in the right direction. We'll hear from Max Munsey
who is progressing with his left knee bone bruise, coming
up with David Vasse in about twenty five minutes. All right,
let's head back out to Dodger Stadium as we check
in with the Dodger Skipper.

Speaker 3 (15:45):
Anything else, Dave?

Speaker 10 (15:46):
Do you questions for Dave?

Speaker 11 (15:48):
Dave?

Speaker 1 (15:48):
Can you just describe Dave?

Speaker 3 (15:50):
Can you talk about the pressure in.

Speaker 5 (15:53):
The dugouts with Dave Roberts.

Speaker 11 (15:57):
I think I just kind of came to a point in,
you know, looking at how things are going, where Mookie's at, emotionally,
mechanics wise, kind of all in totality, and I just

(16:19):
I felt that, you know, giving him a different look
in the lineup, hitting him at the top, something he's
obviously been accustomed to throughout his career, will give him
put him in a mindset of just to get on base.
And I think that just trying to take good at
bats set the table for show Hey and the guys

(16:41):
behind him. And I don't know how long this is
going to be, Certainly it'll be I'll do it until
Max gets back and then we'll kind of re evaluate
from there. But verse left, verse right. For the time being,
I'm gonna hit Mookie at the top and just kind

(17:02):
of again hopefully it sort of lends itself to the
mindset of just get on base and you know Bill Dinings.

Speaker 1 (17:12):
All right, there's Dave Roberts.

Speaker 6 (17:13):
The pressure being taken off Mookie now as the leadoff
hitter to be the table center for the Dodgers and
the offense behind him including show hey now boutting this second?
All right, well we continue here on Dodgers on Deck.
We'll check in with David Vase, so we lead you
up to first pitch from Dodger Stadium on this Sunday
Dodgers and the Brewers. I'm Tim Kasis, the world champion
Los Angeles Dodgers Audio Network.

Speaker 5 (17:38):
As we were saying, yes, it's Marongo Casino, Dodgers on
Jack on the official home of LA Dodgers Baseball.

Speaker 6 (17:49):
Dodgers and Brewers, final game of this three game zech
Clinton Kershaw, who's aking toan of the bitching matchup for
pitch coming up at one ten.

Speaker 5 (18:00):
Joining Tim Kats on Dodgers on Deck.

Speaker 10 (18:02):
I accept everybody for who they are.

Speaker 6 (18:04):
This is Dodger insider David Bassi and dB now joins
is from the stadium the big news today.

Speaker 1 (18:11):
David's only the.

Speaker 6 (18:11):
Dodgers looking to snap this losing straight and get back
on track.

Speaker 1 (18:15):
But Mookie Betts not the leadoff hitter for the.

Speaker 10 (18:17):
Dodgers, Yeah, something that he has done the majority of
his career. And Dave Roberts, as you heard earlier, is
hoping that gets him going again, because if you would
have dropped Mookie Betts down in the order, you may
have lost him for the rest of the year. But
at least moving him to the leadofs spot is a
familiar spot, a familiar feeling for him and maybe gets

(18:40):
him to have the mentality of just getting on base,
because in Mookie's last one hundred and eighteen at bats,
he has only walked seven times and is hitting a
bucks seventy eight. Here's what MOOKI had to say about
just his season long slump.

Speaker 12 (18:55):
Qus and Phil's that I've used my whole life Mowson
in LA earlier in LA that just don't work anymore. So, Yeah,
it's just trying to find out who I am now,
what works now? You know, it's it's hard, but I
mean I gotta figure it out some way.

Speaker 10 (19:18):
Mookie's been searching for a while now. And also I
think we all forget the fact that he lost close
to twenty pounds in the beginning of the season with
an illness that forced him to leave Tokyo, Japan prematurely.
I asked Mookie whether or not that plays a part
into all of this and him just being worn down
and not feeling like himself.

Speaker 12 (19:38):
I think that probably plays a little piece into it.
But you know, I had a good first homestand so
that kind of kills that theory. So, you know, I don't,
like I said, I don't think there's any real reasons outside.

Speaker 2 (19:55):
Of me just.

Speaker 12 (19:57):
Not figuring out who I am now and not applying
what works for me now. I mean, it's kind of
hard to apply to something when you don't really know.
But I mean it's this is a process I've never
been through, so I don't have any answers. I don't
know how to get through this.

Speaker 3 (20:16):
I don't.

Speaker 12 (20:17):
I don't, I don't, I don't know, you know what
I'm saying. So I'm, like I said, I'm working every
day and.

Speaker 1 (20:23):
Hopefully you know that, hopefully it.

Speaker 10 (20:26):
Turns Is that falling into the same category that Kurushaw
has talked about during the course of his career, is
like adapt or diet.

Speaker 1 (20:35):
Yeah, pretty much, pretty much.

Speaker 12 (20:38):
I'm trying to adapt, you know, I'm doing my best
to adapt. It's not really a going that great for me,
but I mean, the only thing I can do is
just keep keep working and hopefully, like I said, hopefully
it does turn.

Speaker 10 (20:54):
And today Mookie Betts will be back in the leadoff
spot for the first time this season.

Speaker 1 (20:59):
He is thirty two, two years old.

Speaker 10 (21:00):
Tim, and this is the stage of most players' careers
where you have to evolve and make adjustments. As Father
Time is undefeated.

check in with Tim Belcher. It's alumni weekend. A lot
of former Dodger great players in town for the weekend.
We'll hear from Tim Belcher. Next to be lead you
up to first pitch. Dodgers and the Brewers. I'm Tim
Kais is the world champion Los Angeles Dodgers Audio Network.

Speaker 5 (23:50):
This is Marongo Casino, Dodgers on dep on your home
for the Blue all season long.

Speaker 6 (23:59):
It's a Dodger and the Milwaukee Brewers on this Sunday afternoon.
Clayton Kershaw, Jose Cantata, the Benji matchup. Is time for
the Verizon startup, as we are now a little bit
more than thirty minutes away from the start of the game.
Now at Verizon you can lock in your little price
for three years so you can save big. Visit the
Verizon store today. Dave David Devesse standing by. We get

(24:23):
an alumni weekend out of Dodgers Stadium, Ron say, legends
of Dodgers Baseball.

Speaker 1 (24:27):
On Friday night.

Speaker 6 (24:28):
Last night, Fernando Valenzuela honored his family on the field
the bobblehead. A lot of Dodgers former players, champion players
in town for the weekend, including Tim Belcher.

Speaker 3 (24:38):
Well, I'm joined right now.

Speaker 10 (24:39):
I'm going full fanboy because everybody that listens to the
show knows how much the nineteen eighty eight Dodgers meant
to me, meant to the city of Los Angeles. It
was the most magical championship team the Dodgers have ever
had in their franchise's history. The Mets may talk about
the sixty nine Mets, but the eighty eight Dodgers were

(25:00):
something on another level. And we're joined right now by
one of the starting staff members of those eighty eight
miracle Dodgers. That's the one and only Tim Belcher who
started Game one of the World Series for the Dodgers
against the A's. Tim, great to have you back at
Dodgers Stadium, and it looks like you could pitch at
least five innings these days.

Speaker 4 (25:19):
No look looks for deceiv And yeah, I did pitch
Game one. I tell people today still today, that was
the worst game I ever pitched on the biggest, grandest
stage the World Series, but the best game I was
ever a part of, thanks to Gibby. You know, set
up Gibby, Yeah exactly, Yeah, well, yeah, I think, I think.

(25:39):
I think the bullpen. When I got knocked out in
the second inning, Tim Leary and three or four other
guys pieced it together and held held the ship, kept
us from sinking any further, and then made made Gibbey's
home run possible.

Speaker 1 (25:51):
Tim.

Speaker 10 (25:52):
I've never heard you talk about this, but you being
the starting pitcher out of the game, where were you
when Kirk Gibson hit that home run. I was in
the club house, drowning in my sorrow of how poorly
I pitched. But it was it was so exciting, I mean,
you know, watching it. I was in the video room
just above the tunnel as you entered the old clubhouse,

(26:13):
and the roar, because you know, when you're underneath the
stadium in the clubhouse at that time, you know, but
still today, I'm sure you can. When something big happens,
you can hear everybody stand up, and hear all the
seats lifting up and clacking together, and people stomping and clapping.

Speaker 1 (26:29):
I thought the.

Speaker 4 (26:30):
Building was gonna come down right on my head. And
at that point I really didn't care. I was so
happy for our team and happy that I got to
spit the hook for for a game one loss in
the World Series.

Speaker 10 (26:39):
What was it like when Gibby came back into the
clubhouse and you guys gathered as you did after every
game for the fruits of victory.

Speaker 4 (26:46):
Yeah, it was awesome.

Speaker 3 (26:47):
It was awesome.

Speaker 4 (26:48):
He was so beat up, you know, and you know
you know this, I know, and most most people that
are true Dodger fans know this. It was the only
a bat that he had in the entire World Series
because he had a knee, he had a hamstring, had
a shoulder. He was all beat up, so he wasn't
quite as boisterous and letting us jump on him. Because
he was hurting. Yeah, but yeah he still did to

(27:09):
What a team, no doubt about it, and him and
him and Tommy used to sing that out after every game.

Speaker 3 (27:14):
It was awesome.

Speaker 10 (27:15):
What a special team, no doubt about it. Tim Delcher
a big part of it. What was it about that team?
I asked you earlier, when did you know? When did
you know you guys had something special?

Speaker 3 (27:25):
You know? I don't know. Probably during the Mets series
was for me.

Speaker 4 (27:29):
I mean, you know, well, I think we only won
like ninety two or ninety three regular season games to
win the division. And it wasn't easy. I mean, we
wanted I don't know, a handful of games. We clinched
it like a week before the end of the year,
but the division wasn't that strong at that point, and
our team really on paper when you looked at it,

(27:50):
I mean, I'm sure there are a lot of other
Dodger champion I'm sure the eighty one team looks at
our roster compared to those and they're like, how the
hell they do that?

Speaker 3 (27:57):
You know?

Speaker 4 (27:58):
But it was it was a true team. I mean
it was. It was a mixture of guys at a
point in their career that it just it just all meshed,
it all worked. You know, guys like Franklin Stubbs and
Mickey Hatcher and Rick Dempsey, you know, the stunt men
we called them, and Dave Anderson. Uh, they were so
integral in what we did throughout that year and then

(28:19):
into the end of the postseason. I mean, Mickey Hatcher
had an incredible postseason. So yeah, it was it was Uh,
I forget the just your initial question. I kind of
got off on a tangent there, but it was awesome.

Speaker 3 (28:32):
It was great.

Speaker 4 (28:33):
I don't think any of us really thought that we
were going to be a World Series champion until it
actually got close, you know, until we beat the Mets,
because I think the Mets were every bit as good
as the A's and that was a hard fought seven
game series. So I think then we knew, hey, we
can we can handle them in seven games. You know,
we got a chance against us, the Oakland Club Club.

(28:53):
I don't care about the Bash Brothers. You know, we
got good pitching and we can we can do this
and uh, you know, five games.

Speaker 10 (29:00):
Yeah, that's a good way to know that you got
something special. When you beat the team that beats you
ten out of eleven times in the regular season.

Speaker 4 (29:08):
Yeah, they handled us. I mean we didn't have a
prayer against them during the regular year. And you know,
they were they were coming off of a championship in
what eighty six, and they still had the nucleus of
that team. I mean, they had a great roster, they
really did. But you know, there was just something about
the magic of our of our roster and the makeup of.

Speaker 3 (29:27):
Our our guys that you know, Yeah.

Speaker 4 (29:32):
When he when he got a guy late in his
career like a Rick Dempsey that played such an integral
role and catching he actually caught the lost last out,
the last pitch from Oral in Game five, and then
somebody like Mickey Hatcher at the stage of his career, uh,
doing what he did in the postseason. I mean after
a while, guys just rally around that and just kind of,
you know, kind of raised raised us all up to

(29:55):
do better things.

Speaker 10 (29:56):
Tim, this has been really special. If you would have
told twelve year old days Fast saying nineteen eighty eight,
I'd have a chance to interview Tim Belcher, I would
have tipped over in my chair back then on the
reserve level at Dodgers Stadium. You guys in nineteen eighty
eight were just larger than life, and certainly everybody loved
you guys.

Speaker 4 (30:15):
Yeah, well thanks thanks for saying that, and you having
grown up with this team and being in being so
impressionable at such an impressionable age when we when we
had that magical season. It's great for me to see
you doing what you're doing now. I'm sure it's a
great throll for you, So thank you very much.

Speaker 10 (30:32):
Thank you, Tim, one of the great eighty eight Dodgers.
We'll send it back to you in the studio.

Speaker 1 (30:36):
All right, thanks a loud DV. Tim Belcher, one of
the good guys.

Speaker 6 (30:39):
That's the Dodger game plan today, brought to you by
the California Community College. Its financial aids available to help
you with tuition, books and sometimes even the rent.

Speaker 1 (30:46):
Time to take that next big step.

Speaker 6 (30:47):
Come on, classes can fill quickly, so on roll today,
I can go to college dot Com. Still to come
here on Dodgers on Deck. We'll get you a preview
this pitching matchup. Now we gonna be back with James Lonie.
Get to those keys to the game before first pitch.
But next we go high and tight with Max Mounsey.
Dodgers Brewers first pitch on this Sunday, coming up at
one ten. I'm Tim Kats's the world champion Los Angeles

(31:08):
Dodgers Audio Network.

Speaker 5 (31:12):
As we were saying, this is Marongo Casino Dodgers on
tack on the official home of LA Dodgers Baseball.

Speaker 6 (31:22):
It's Dodgers and the Milwaukee Brewers on this Sunday afternoon,
Clayton Kershaw on the mount Agains Jose Quintana. Dodgers Baseball
is brought to you by Shaky's Pizza Parler, the official
pizza partner of the Dodgers Audio broadcast. When it's game day,
it's group day at Shakey's dot Com.

Speaker 5 (31:42):
And now what will likely be Vasse fielding insults from
a Dodger player.

Speaker 1 (31:47):
It's an engagement of endearment.

Speaker 5 (31:48):
This is high and tight.

Speaker 10 (31:51):
It's a great day at Dodgers Stadium. You got Eddie
Money playing in the background and Max Munsey on the
field taking grounders, trying to work his way back. Thanks
a lot for the time. And it feels like two
tickets to Paradise between you and me right now.

Speaker 3 (32:06):
I wouldn't go that far, but yeah, it's a good day.
It's a it's a good day to get out.

Speaker 13 (32:11):
Care's some working and you know, hopefully cheer the boys
onto a w Yeah.

Speaker 10 (32:15):
Max, it feels like from what we have seen, and
I know obviously you've sustained a pretty significant injury, but
it looks like you're getting closer.

Speaker 1 (32:24):
Yeah.

Speaker 13 (32:25):
I don't think we still fully know what the timetable
is just yet, but the progression's going well. Things are
moving quick, maybe quicker than what we're expecting. But you know,
part of that is just understanding. You know where your
body's at, where the injury's at, you know what the
context of the injury is, and you know, are you

(32:45):
gonna hurt it worse or are you not going to
hurt it worse? And so you know, when you understand
those things, you're able to kind of set a mindset,
at least for me, you know, you kind of know
how I am, and so when I get that mindset,
I'm gonna get going.

Speaker 10 (32:57):
What's the information you've gotten on that? Is it pain
tolerance situation? Is it about you just trying to feel
comfortable playing with this type of pain?

Speaker 3 (33:06):
Yeah, it's a little bit of all the above. You know.

Speaker 13 (33:09):
Uh, I don't think I can make it any worse
unless you recreate what happened, and obviously I don't plan
on doing that. Uh So from there, it's kind of
just a tolerance thing. And you know, that's where I'm
just trying to put I'm trying to push things, trying
to be smart about it, but uh, you know, if
if things feel good, I'm gona I'm gonna keep progressing forward.

Speaker 3 (33:29):
And you know, it's the biggest thing right now.

Speaker 10 (33:31):
You've been through this before with different injuries where you've
been forced to watch for extended period of time. How
difficult is it to be sitting on the bench and
missing games.

Speaker 3 (33:42):
That sucks.

Speaker 13 (33:42):
It's it's the worst thing ever, you know, it's it's
just it's not it's not a whole lot of fun
when the team's not doing well and you can't be
out there doing anything to help them, and you know,
it's it's it's really tough to just sit on sidelines
and watch. You obviously try to do anything you can
and you're trying to you know, talk with guys, but
what their approach might be and you.

Speaker 3 (34:01):
Know that sort of stuff.

Speaker 13 (34:02):
But there's only so much you can do when you're
sitting on the sideline, and uh, Yeah, like I said,
it just really sucks.

Speaker 10 (34:07):
Max Munsey is our guest in front of first pitch
between the Dodgers and Brewers. Yesterday was a special day.
It kind of feels weird a current player going out
there to be honored with some of the Dodger alumni.
But how special was it for you to carry out
the world Championship trophy from twenty twenty and be out
there with so many great Dodger championship teams.

Speaker 3 (34:27):
Yeah, it was a pretty special moment.

Speaker 13 (34:28):
It's a you know, the history of this organization, it's
truly truly special, and to know that you're a part
of that history, it's it's.

Speaker 3 (34:37):
A really cool moment.

Speaker 13 (34:38):
And you get to go out there and you get
to celebrate two trophies that are on that field, and
you know, something I'm very proud of, and you know,
I'm very blessed of being able to been a part
of part of both those teams. And you know, I
don't care what anyone says, that twenty twenty trophy feels
just as real as a twenty twenty four trophy, and
you know, being able to carry it out there on
the field with Freddie carrying the one from last year was.

Speaker 3 (34:58):
A that was a really cool moment.

Speaker 13 (35:00):
For me, just you know, understanding your your part in
history in this organization.

Speaker 10 (35:04):
I know, when you guys are playing, you're still in
the grind of every day your career and you're far
from being done playing. But on a day like yesterday,
does it become a reflective moment even for you that
you're part of history for the rest of the franchisees legacy.

Speaker 3 (35:22):
Yeah, it's it's it's cool. You know, it really makes
you look up there and you know.

Speaker 13 (35:26):
You see the the years on the on the stadium
out there for all the World Series, you know, championships,
and you know you kind of those last two you
look at and realize I was you know, I was
a part of those two and that's a that's always
a special moment. And you know, like you said, getting
to be on the field with the greats that have
been in this organization.

Speaker 3 (35:44):
You know, you had Steve Garvey out there, Dusty Baker.

Speaker 13 (35:47):
You know, you had all those guys, and it's like
it's just cool to be in the same boat as
those guys, you know, because they've been legends for this
organization for so long and to finally bring you know, just.

Speaker 3 (35:58):
Some new history to that. It's it's it's pretty cool.

Speaker 10 (36:00):
Hey, two hundred plus home runs and counting, you're in
elite category and a two time World Series champion. A
lot of those guys can't say that either. Can't wait
for you to come back to try to make it
a third ring on your hand.

Speaker 3 (36:13):
Max Mounsey, I can't wait. I'd be lovely.

Speaker 10 (36:15):
Max Munsey has been our guest. Hey, before we go,
do you want to give your online live auction a
plug here?

Speaker 3 (36:20):
Moncie.

Speaker 13 (36:21):
Yeah, absolutely, for those that weren't able to attend to
our event, you know, there's there's an auction online where
you can still bid on atumns and again, one hundred
percent the proceeds are going to help out fire relief
efforts and you know the YMCA, the foothills, and you know,
it's just a it's a it's a great chance to
get some some cool autograph stuff and memorabilia and you know,

(36:41):
hopefully hopefully we.

Speaker 3 (36:43):
Have some takers on that.

Speaker 10 (36:44):
No doubt, I saw some of the items. I'm gonna
have to get a free pass from the wife.

Speaker 12 (36:48):
Yeah.

Speaker 13 (36:49):
Absolutely, I'm not giving you any friend discounts though, David,
you're on your own.

Speaker 10 (36:52):
Oh no, this is for a good cause for sure,
and you can find the link on Max Mounsey's Instagram account.
Thanks a lot for the time, Max, and can't wait
to have you back on the field.

Speaker 3 (37:01):
Thanks lot, David, appreciate it. Oh Man, what a day?

Speaker 10 (37:04):
Eddie Money Huey lewis playing in the background while talking
to the great Max Monsey. We'll send it back to
you in the studio.

Speaker 1 (37:10):
Tim, all right, thanks a lot, dv. Thank you. Max.

Speaker 6 (37:13):

it out and make a donation or an auction item.

We look at the pitching matchup FIRS.

Speaker 6 (39:00):
It's the Dodgers and the Brewers. Clayton Kershaw on the Mount.
The Boys in Blue play a home game. It's important
they have the right plan to protect Dodgers Stadium their house.

Speaker 1 (39:08):
You need one for your home.

Speaker 6 (39:09):

can start fire, so avoid parking your car on dry grass.

visit fire dot CA dot gov. All right, back out
to the booth, Steven Nelson, James Loney, guys, All.

Speaker 2 (39:37):
Right, TC, back here with James Loney one more time.
James Loney made his radio debut last night, the Dodgers
Audio Network debut.

Speaker 1 (39:44):
So back at it.

Speaker 2 (39:45):
Again here today, James, as we watched the Dodgers take
on the Brewers for the final time this year, and
the Dodgers do not want to get swept, so they're
sending a reliable twenty two Clayton Kershaw to the mount
opposite Jose Kintana. Isn't it funny? As the more things change,
the more things the same. For the Dodgers, they're looking
for twenty two to be a stopper.

Speaker 1 (40:03):
Yeah.

Speaker 8 (40:03):
They love to see him out there. And you know
he has this presence this year. Yeah. I know. I
don't have the overpowering stuff. I haven't had it the
last few years, but I can pitch. And he did
a really good job into Milwaukee. He was changing speeds well.
And the thing I love about Clayton is he still
would throw inside. A lot of guys get older, have
their velocity. He's like, you know what, I can still
throw that slider in under your hands. I know, we

(40:23):
don't want to call it a cutter.

Speaker 1 (40:25):
You can't, right unless you want to fight him.

Speaker 8 (40:27):
But he still pitches like a bulldog. He still pitches
like he's got that velocity. He trusts that he can
get that pitch inside. Even though he's not throwing that hard.
You get that pitcher in under a right hander's hands,
you can have him pull at foul right there. It's
just hard pitch to keep fair. So as long as
he has that mentality that he can still get to
that spot, he opens up that outside corner to do
what he wants to do.

Speaker 2 (40:47):
The last time we saw Clayton Kershaw at home, it
was a magical and unforgettable night as he joined the
three thousand strikeout club, and today he makes the four
hundred and fortieth start of his Major League are trying
to help the Dodgers stiff form a sweep at the
hands of the Brewers. It's a good matchup on this Sunday,
and we hope you will stick around for us as
first pitch is rapidly approaching.

Speaker 1 (41:08):
All right, thank you, Nellie.

Speaker 6 (41:09):
Dodgers need to get a win to avoid being swept
by the Brewers this season. They lost three in Milwaukee
before the All Star break, and now they're looking to
avoid getting swept here at home. It's the Dodgers and Brewers.
David vass Aid's got your cover with all the post
game when this one is over, as the homestad will
continue tomorrow night against Minnesota. But first things first, take
care of business against these brewers. Clayton Kershaw takes them
