Speaker 8 (00:41):
Tim kays Hi, everybody, and welcome into this Monday edition
of Morongo Casino Dodgers on Deck. Hope you're well as
you're world champion Los Angeles Dodgers said at sixty one
and forty five on this season, first place atop the
NL West, but their lead down to four games the
San Diego Padres. After what happened over the weekend in Boston,

(01:03):
Dodgers dropped two of three to the Red Sox. Good News,
New Day, New Cities. There in Cincinnati, Ohio, where the
start of a three game series against the Reds. Yoshinobu
Yamamoto on the mount in the series opener from Great
American Ballpark. First pitch is coming up at four to ten.
Coming up over the next hour here on Marongo Casino,
Dodgers on deck. We're gonna hear from the Dodger manager himself,

(01:26):
Dave Roberts. We'll preview this pitching matchup David Ves. In
forty five minutes, will go one on one with Alex Vestia.
He's been really good out of the Dodger bullpen. We
got your Dodgers magical moment. Shortly, we'll hear from Kirsten
Watson live on the field at Great American Ballpark in Cincinnati.
In just a few minutes, we head out to Tim
Neferd and Rick Monday at the Galpin Motors Broadcast booth.

(01:46):
Well yesterday in Boston, the Dodgers were going for the
series win, Dustin May facing Walker Buller, Yes, that same
Walker Bueler, the former Dodger World Series Hero, got to
start for the Red Sox. Dodgers were able to to
get after him after a sack fly from Trevor's story
in the first gave the Red Sox a one nothing lead.
Dustin May seemed to settle in, struck out the side

(02:07):
in the top of the bottom half of the third,
struck out two of the three batters that he faced
in the fourth. Meanwhile, the Dodgers offense went to work
helping him out. They loaded the bases in the third
against Walker Vieler, who had some control issues with the Dodgers,
and he had some control issues yesterday. He walked Freddy
Freeman with the bases loaded. That tied the game at
one in the third. Then in the fourth, the Dodgers
took the lead, starting with Michael Conforto.

Speaker 9 (02:29):
Second baseman, had his spike caught on the clay. I
just want to stroke high and teeth to right center
field toward the triangle.

Speaker 5 (02:36):
Back it goes, it is gone.

Speaker 1 (02:38):
A home run.

Speaker 10 (02:39):
Michael Confordo.

Speaker 9 (02:41):
Well, a solo shot gives the Dodgers a two to
one lead on a three to two pitch. He just
drilled it. He got a cutter that was left up,
out and over and he hammered it out deep past
the triangle and beyond the Red Sox bullpen in the bleachers.

Speaker 2 (03:00):
Well, we thought it could be home runs today. That's
the eighteenth that Vieler has given up.

Speaker 8 (03:06):
Yeah, he gives up the long ball Michael Confordo four
hundred and twenty four feet to center field inside the
triangle there. That gave the Dodgers a two to one lead.
Still in the fourth, runner on for Mookie Betts.

Speaker 9 (03:17):
There were many on this side of the world who
thought that Mookie should have won that one.

Speaker 10 (03:21):
No disrespect his trout.

Speaker 9 (03:23):
There's a line shot up the middle of a base
hit past the diving Rafaela in the center field rownding
third is roll high. He will come in the score.
The throat of the plate is late, and Mookie Betts,
with a two out RBI single, makes it three to
one Los Angeles.

Speaker 8 (03:38):
Mookie Betts delivers with the RBIs single, his fifth RBI
in six games at Fenway Park as a visiting player.
Dodges up three to one again in the bottom of
the fourth. Dustin May went out and struck out two
of the three batters that he faced. In the bottom
of the fifth, though, after getting the lead off batter
to ground out a single and then a triple off
the wall from Roman Anthony that made it a three

(03:59):
to two game, and then Alex Bregman to run home
run on the very next pitch from Dustin May, three
run fifth inning for the Red Sox as they took
a four to three lead. Meanwhile, the Dodgers offense had
plenty of opportunities, but they laughed thirteen runners on base,
They were one for eleven with runners in scoring position.
They had runners in scoring position in each of the

(04:20):
last five innings yesterday at Fenway Park, but could not score,
could not get the hit they needed, and the Dodgers
lose four to three yesterday in Fenway Park. They dropped
two to three in Boston. They now have a four
game lead in the NL West, sitting at sixty one
and forty five on this season, and now they turned

(04:40):
the patron Boston and they head to Cincinnati for a
three game series against the Reds. Yoshinobu Yamamoto on the
mount of this series opener first pitch at four to ten,
and with more we head out to the Gallpin Motors
broadcast booth as we say hello to Tim Neffett and
Rick Monday.

Speaker 10 (04:54):
Guys, Tim, thank you very much.

Speaker 9 (04:56):
It is a warm and humid night here in cincin Nati, Ohio.
Right on the banks of the Ohio River at Great
American Ballpark Tonight, go Shinobu Yamamoto takes to the hill
looking to start a winning streak for the Dodgers. He's
eight and seven, two fifty five the ERA. He'll make
his twenty first start, and he will face Chase Burns,
who will make his sixth major league start, still in

(05:18):
search of his first major league win. He's zero and
two with an ERA approaching seven. So a battle of
right handers here. Tonight is the Dodgers take on the
Cincinnati Reds for the first time this year. Dodgers sixty
one and forty five, while the Reds are fifty six
and fifty.

Speaker 10 (05:34):
It's a season high six.

Speaker 9 (05:35):
Over five hundred for the Reds and all the Dodgers
coming off a series loss in Boston to start off
this nine game road trip four to three yesterday afternoon
at Fenway Park, and today they've got to lick their
wounds a little bit and get right back at it
and try to get in the win call.

Speaker 2 (05:51):
It's really kind of a strange three game series in Boston.
We start to say, okay, lost two out of the three,
when you consider the fact, Okay, fine, they were just
three for twenty one with runners in scoring position. That's understandable,
you dropped two out of three. However, they also had
fifteen walks in that series, including nine.

Speaker 6 (06:09):
Yesterday, and just really could not take advantage of it.

Speaker 2 (06:11):
That's the good news as far as getting on base
and being patient with the strength zone.

Speaker 6 (06:15):
But the other part too.

Speaker 2 (06:16):
Speaking of strength zone, thirty one punch outs over those
three games. And we're coming in here now. It's a
little odd to say teams in the opposite end of
the spectrum because the Dodgers have gone eight and thirteen
in the month of July, and if you look at
the Reds, they've won not only four straight, they've won
ten or the last fourteen, and the Reds knocking in
the doors. You're just one game out of a wild

(06:38):
card spot. In the National League.

Speaker 9 (06:39):
We talk off of about peaks and valleys for hitters
for teams. The Dodgers are definitely in a valley right now.
Since the fourth of July. Only the Rays have a
worse record than the Dodgers. The Rays are five and fourteen,
the Dodgers five and thirteen since the fourth of July,
and the Dodgers hope that all starts tonight and things
look to turn around.

Speaker 2 (06:58):
And what has worked out mentioned this yesterday in Boston,
but if we look at the Nation League West, there's
not one team that has a winning record over the
last ten games. Dodgers are four and six. They've hit
just two and a quarter in that period of time
in an era right around three and three quarters. And
if we look at the Cincinnati Reds in the Central Division,

(07:18):
there are four different teams that have a winning record,
including the Reds are six and a half out, but
we mentioned before just one game out of the wildcard spot,
and the Reds are feeling really good about themselves, not
only the hitting pretty well. If they get on base,
they're going to try and steal some bases as well.

Speaker 9 (07:35):
A couple of notes about the lineup. Tommy Edmund was
initially in the lineup and going to start at third base.
He's been replaced by Hassan Kim Whole play second, and
Miguel Rojas now at third tonight. But the ankle injury
that Tommy has flared up again, so that's an issue.

Speaker 10 (07:51):
And also Dalton rushing for the.

Speaker 9 (07:52):
First time starting back to back games, and the reason
that he is in there in back to back games.
Nothing wrong with Will Smith, just that the Dodgers are
going to face more left handed heavy pitchers in the
coming days, so they're getting rushing in there against the
right hander tonight.

Speaker 2 (08:06):
I just wonder how many people were watching batting practice
a little bit earlier when the Dodgers were hitting. And
I bring that up because you know who was getting
in the cage and hitting the ball and hitting it
pretty well. Clayton kers Show actually took a couple of
rounds of batting practice.

Speaker 10 (08:19):
Yeah, well it's not pitching today.

Speaker 2 (08:21):
Well, the rumor mill, this is the time of year
where the trade dead light coming up. Now the rumor
meal really going. Hey, did you notice Clayton kershow is
taking batting practice? I think he might want a DH.
I think Dodgers have a good DH. Anyway, we're getting
you ready for this one tonight, Yoshinobu Yamamoto at eight
and seven against Chase Burns, oh and two Dodgers and
the Reds, Game one of a three game set coming

(08:43):
up from steamy Cincinnati.

Speaker 1 (08:45):
All right, thank you guys, as we call you down
to first pitch.

Speaker 8 (08:47):
Dodger fans, get your game day meal on at Shakey's
Pizza Parlor.

Speaker 1 (08:51):
What are your Shaky's Pizza.

Speaker 8 (08:52):
Chicken Mojo's right now at shaky dot com. Lead me
up to first pitch on this Monday. As Wrongo Casino
on deck continues, you're gonna hear for the manager Dave Roberts.
We'll check in with David Vesta, he goes one on one.

Speaker 1 (09:05):
With Alex Vessio. Will dive deeper to this bitch am matchup.

Speaker 8 (09:08):
But up next you Otani, you re Ryan, and we
head to the field, a Great American Ballpark. And here
from Kirsten Watson. That's all coming up as we lead
you off to Dodgers and Reds on this Monday afternoon.

Speaker 1 (09:19):
Thanks for being with us.

Speaker 8 (09:21):
I'm Tim Katson's the world champion Los Angeles Dodgers.

Speaker 1 (09:23):
Paul, do you network?

Speaker 7 (09:27):
This is Morongo Casino, Dodgers Hunters on your home for
La Dodgers Baseball.

Speaker 8 (09:35):
He's the Dodgers and the Cincinnati Reds as the Dodgers
have moved on from Boston. Yoshanobu Ya'mamoto guests to start
in this series opener from Great American Ballpark in Cincinnati.

Speaker 1 (09:47):
First pitch coming up at four ten.

Speaker 7 (09:50):
This is the Otani, rewhyd Now what two to one
pitch swan got rotes centerfield.

Speaker 9 (09:55):
That's a base hit, a solid single by and the
pitch swings hits a ground ball up the middle to
the right or second base. That's Drew Oki stepping on second,
turning heading to third and O'tani is two for two.
The Dodgers with runners at the corners in two out show.

Speaker 8 (10:14):
Hey Otani would end up going two for four on
base three times, including a walk, but the Dodgers, again
one for eleven with the runners in scoring position, left
thirteen base runners on base yesterday. Even a combined nine
walks at the Dodgers lineup Drew still wasn't enough, as
the Red Sox beat the Dodgers yesterday four to three.

Speaker 7 (10:33):
This is Kirston's Corner with Kirston Watson.

Speaker 8 (10:37):
Hey Kirson now joins us from Cincinnati for the start
of this three game set against the Reds.

Speaker 1 (10:42):
Brought to you by Cars for Kids. Ready to donate
your old car?

Speaker 8 (10:45):
Call eight seven seven Cars for Kids right now, Friendly
agents standing by to take your donation. That's Cars with
the K to donate your car Today, the Dodgers lineup
looks a little different no Will Smith in there today, Kirson.

Speaker 11 (10:57):
Yeah, exactly, and we saw Dalton rushing, and yesterday we
did see Will Smith come off the bench late in
the game with it being a one run game. But
you know, for Dave Roberts, he was saying that he
just wanted to give Dalton Ulka to have two games
in a row. I mean, the biggest focus for Dalton
has been just the play calling, and I wanted him
to be excellent that you know, not don't worry too
much about the offensive side of the game. But for Adulton,

(11:19):
he is used to being an everyday player and he's
used to being really good offensively and getting the results
and having that consistency of play. So Dave, when he
was talking to Dalton and telling him that he was
going to be back out there today, he did say that,
you know, the hope is that you can just have
this back to back situation and the little kids like
having just that continuation being in the game, get some

(11:40):
more events and steel Floyd, so hopefully he can't get
some things going. He had sorted to express a little
bit of frustration, whether it's just with some of his
mannerisms after at bats and things like that, so that's
the main reason. Also, Dave like the matchup later in
the series in which she wanted Will Smith to be
in the game. So you know, obviously Will still going
to play two of three, but he just liked the

(12:02):
setup of having Dulton in a position in which he
could play. And back to that game.

Speaker 8 (12:07):
Dodgers getting healthy with their pitching staff. Blake's nell on
the horizon on Friday, Blake Trenton came back over the
weekend to help out this Dodgers' bullpen.

Speaker 1 (12:16):
What's the latest with Max Munsey?

Speaker 11 (12:18):
Yeah, so Max Mounsey, he much like everyone else, is
progressing really well. So over the weekend he was in
Arizona facing some pitching, some live pitching. So he's actually
going to be starting his rehab assignment tomorrow, so he's
on the way to meet the OKAC team and Dave
said that he's going to go ahead and start playing
third base, so he's going to be likely beating about

(12:39):
three at bats in the game tomorrow and then they'll
kind of build him up. They don't want to rush him.
Of course, the numbers show that the team is better
when he's in the linea, but you know they want
to make sure that he has the time to get healthy,
to feel comfortable, to be built up with the up
downs of a game. So there is a small chance
that we could be seeing him at the end of

(13:00):
this road trip, maybe in Tampa with like you said,
Blake Snell, but Dave said that, you know, it's a
small chance. We likely won't see him until the team
gets back home to Los Angeles because they just for them.
It's not worth rushing it. And this is an injury
that yes, he's likely got to say, there's some game callers,
but he does feel really good right now. He's progressing

(13:21):
really well, so they'll give him the time to get
the revcinis until he can rejoin the team.

Speaker 1 (13:25):
Let's hope he can get back soon.

Speaker 8 (13:27):
And he's been a big part of this Dodgers lineup
and certainly they have missed him.

Speaker 1 (13:30):
In the line of Kirsty, we appreciate it. We'll check
in with you after the game. Still to come.

Speaker 8 (13:33):
Here on Wrongo Casino Dodgers on Deck, we dive deeper
to this pitching matchup. David vat segoes one on one
with Alex Vessia. But I'm next, We'll get you an
injury report, and we hear from the manager himself, Dave Roberts.
It's the Dodgers and the Reds from Cincinnati on this
Monday afternoon. I'm Tim Kass, the world champion Los Angeles
Dodgers Audio Network.

Speaker 7 (13:57):
This is Marongo Casino Dodgers on dech on, your home
for the Blue All season.

Speaker 8 (14:05):
Law Bargo Casino Dodgers on Deck continues on this Monday
afternoon as we lead you up to first pitch from
Cincinnati Dodgers and rents Morogo Casino Resorta and Spy Grand
Slam for good Times. Yoshinobu Yamamoto and Chase Burns. The
pitching matchup. First pitch coming up at four ten.

Speaker 7 (14:23):
It's the LA Dodgers Injury.

Speaker 8 (14:26):
Report presented by UCLA Healthy Official medical partner of the
Los Angeles Dodgers. Tanner Scott on the IEL with the
left fore armed sorts, Kekey Hernandez on the IL. Max
Munsey is going on a minor league rehab assignment to
that is good news and he works his way back
from the left knee bone. Bruce Tony Gonsol on the
sixty day IL.

Speaker 1 (14:42):
Blake Snell.

Speaker 8 (14:43):
As we've been telling you for a few days now,
David Vessie again reiterating, looking like Friday, he'll come off
the injured list. That is huge for this Dodgers rotation.
All right, let's head back out to Cincinnati and check
out with the Dodgers skipper.

Speaker 4 (14:55):
Anything else for questions for Dave Dave? Can you just
describe Dave?

Speaker 7 (15:00):
Can you talk about the pressure in the dugouts with
Dave Robbers?

Speaker 12 (15:06):
I think for me it was just thinking about this series.
He was going to play two of three, played the
first two in Boston. I had him come into a
game late yesterday. Really want him in there against Lodolo,
the left hander, and so I think the math just

(15:27):
made sense. The workload getting down a better matchup also,
and again Will is gonna play two three anyway, So
with the off day on Thursday for him to play
Tuesday Wednesday, I feel gets the best chance to win
three games this series because.

Speaker 11 (15:44):
It also a way in which the super home rush
began of them went to back to back downing kind
of getting some more routine run himself.

Speaker 12 (15:51):
That's I actually I told him that when I told
him yesterday that he was going to be in there,
and that maybe you know, playing back to back games
might get him a better you know, feel at the play.
So we'll see how it goes. But again, I feel
good with Dalton in there and also just managing Will
and will Is understands, you know, my thoughts.

Speaker 3 (16:10):
You see some frustration Dalton has, like the slam of
the bat thing yesterday for his last of that.

Speaker 6 (16:16):
Yeah, I think so.

Speaker 12 (16:19):
I Like I've said many times over, the main thing
that he needs to do, which I think he's doing
a fantastic job, is his job behind the plate. But
he's so used to performing offensively, which he hasn't been
able to do at this point. And it's the playing
has been spotty as far as playing time, so it's
an adjustment. But that doesn't mean that he's gonna, you know,

(16:42):
expect less of himself. So the frustration, I get it,
I understand it.

Speaker 13 (16:46):
You ever talk to a young guy like that about
the noise of the trade deadline.

Speaker 1 (16:50):
And maybe seeing his name and.

Speaker 12 (16:52):
You know in Twitter rumors and stuff, you know what
I have. I haven't talked to Dalton. I mean, I
just don't see a world in which he's moved anyway.
And I think he's smart enough to realize that. But
I don't think it's gonna impact him. I really don't.

Speaker 8 (17:14):
All right, there's a manager, Dave Roberts, as Will Smith
gets another day off, Dalton Rushing gets to start again.
Behind the plane. We'll continue here on Wrongo Casino Dodgers
on deck. We'll check in with David Vassa lead you
up to first pitch. On this Monday afternoon, the road
trick continues in Cincinnati with the first of three against
the Reds. First pitch coming up at four ten. I'm
Tim Kates's the world champion Los Angeles Dodgers audio.

Speaker 7 (17:35):
Now, as we were saying yes, is Marongo Casino Dodgers
on deck on the official home of LA Dodgers Baseball.

Speaker 8 (17:47):
Dodgers and Reds in Cincinnati on this Monday afternoon. He
Oshinobu Yamamodo and Chase Burns the pitching matchup, first pitch
coming up at four.

Speaker 7 (17:55):
Ten, Joining Tim kaits on Dodgers on deck. Except everybody
for who they are, This is Dodger insider David Basse
R DV.

Speaker 8 (18:06):
Dodgers put Boston behind them. But one thing about that series.
Rookie Bets missed the game on Friday personal reasons. Joined
the team mid game on Saturday, was back in the
line of yesterday, and we found out a little bit
more about why he was gone.

Speaker 13 (18:21):
Yeah, we had heard that there was a death in
the family, but I asked rookie after the game yesterday
whether or not he was comfortable to just shed some
light on why he had to miss Friday night's game,
and showed up mid game, like you said, Saturday.

Speaker 1 (18:34):
Yeah, my step that pass, my sept that pass.

Speaker 14 (18:36):
So had I needed to go home be my mom
and somebody that's been there in my life from fourth
grade until now, you know, And so that was it
was tough for me and the fam. But yeah, I
just needed to be there for my mom and my
brothers and sisters. So it's just a tough time. And

(18:57):
it's no real way to where they explained something like
that outside of just being there and spending time with
the family.

Speaker 13 (19:03):
Yeah, So Mookie Betts was in good spirits today when
I saw him in the clubhouse earlier today. Seems like
baseball is a good distraction. He's got some friends in
town as well, so he's he's definitely focused on the
game tonight.

Speaker 5 (19:17):
Leading off again playing shortstop.

Speaker 8 (19:19):
David has brought to you by the twenty twenty five
Ford f one to fifty from California's best selling truck brand.
It's time, as he forded a new light Ford for America.
From America Michael Gonfordo, I had a big play yesterday, David.
Is he maybe feeling the pressure of Thursday's looming trade deadline?

Speaker 13 (19:36):
Yeah, you wonder when he comes to the ballpark or
when he wakes up whether or not that's over his head.
But the reality is, since June first, he's been much
better than what the season totals show. Right now, since
June first, Confordo has one of the highest ops's on
the Dodgers team. I mean, he's he's done all really

(19:57):
well lately and has what six of his nine home
runs in the last couple of weeks. He was asked
after the game yesterday whether or not the trade deadline
and the Dodgers possibly looking to improve the outfield and
their offense is looming over him.

Speaker 15 (20:16):
I mean, I don't know if the deadline has come
in to play with that. I think I think it's
just you know, knowing who I am, and you know,
understanding that the first half was was not me. You know,
I left a lot of hits out there. There was
a lot of work to be done, and you know,
I just had to put my head down and keep grinding.
And you know, the deadline I can't I can't control,

(20:41):
you know, it's out of my control.

Speaker 10 (20:42):
So I can only.

Speaker 15 (20:43):
Control the attitude I show up with and the work
I put in, and you know, that's what I'm focused on.

Speaker 13 (20:51):
And I gave Michael Conforto the dead fish and shake
again today, so we're keeping it going. It has nothing
to do with the fact that he has switched to
a light He actually said that yesterday as well, that
he's been able to hit the fastball a lot better
than he did the first half of the season. And
you have to wonder if the lighter bat is a
big reason a product of that. And in his last

(21:13):
fifteen games, Conforto is hitting three to ten with two
home runs and is slugging at five to seventy one.
So I know, the season totals still hitting under two hundred,
don't look great, but he has been much better in
the last month, especially well.

Speaker 1 (21:29):
See if he can keep it going. DV appreciate it.

Speaker 8 (21:30):
We'll check back in with you just a little bit
coming up here on Marongo Casino Dodgers on deck, We'll
get your Dodgers Magical Moment. It's all leading up to
Dodgers and Reds from Cincinnati on this Monday afternoon. I'm
Tim kass Is, the world champion Los Angeles Dodgers Audio Network.

Speaker 7 (21:48):
This is Morongo Casino Dodgers Huntings on your home for
LA Dodgers Baseball, Dodgers.

Speaker 8 (21:58):
And Reds on this Monday afternoon from Cincinnati. Yoshinobu Yamamoto
and Chase Burns. The pitching matchup. Chase Burns, number two
overall pick in last year's draft out a wake fours
burst onto the scenes, kind of cooled off a little bit,
but it racks up a lot of strikeouts. We'll dive
deep into this pitching matchup. Coming up, first pitch at fourteen.

Speaker 5 (22:19):
Without a hot dog? Who wants a hot dog?

Speaker 7 (22:22):
It's time for the Hawfy Magical Moment.

Speaker 1 (22:25):
Pitch Magical by Hawpy hot Dogs. Oh, the Dodgers taking
on the Reds.

Speaker 8 (22:30):
We go back to May nineteenth, last year at Dodgers Stadium,
Dodgers and Reds tied it to free baseball at the
Ravine as the Reds could not score in the top
half of the tenth inning against Anthony Banda. In the
bottom half of the tenth inning, with the free runner
on base, Will Smith would walk to to one two out.

Speaker 1 (22:49):
Then for show, Hey Hey, we're looking.

Speaker 9 (22:52):
To get a good jump on contact. One two pitch.
Oh Toni swag's pace.

Speaker 1 (22:57):
Hit right field.

Speaker 10 (22:58):
Here comes Heyward around her.

Speaker 9 (23:00):
He'll score and the Dodgers win it three to two,
the second career walk off hit for show, Hello Tony,

Speaker 13 (24:46):
It's always special to be back in Cincinnati with Rick Monday.
So many great memories and history of the Dodgers finally
beating the Big Red Machine thanks to our very own
Rick Monday being part of those teams well, we're.

Speaker 2 (24:58):
In Dwayne McDonald's town, so, I mean this is a
big deal coming back to Cincinnati.

Speaker 13 (25:03):
Did you ever try the chili? I mean I feel
like the Chile and Cincinnati way way overrated.

Speaker 6 (25:09):
Yeah yeah, the Skyline Chili. Yeah yeah.

Speaker 2 (25:12):
Well we know that Dwayne McDonald likes it. The three Way, right,
there's different. You know, there's one, there's two, there's three,
there's four with five. I like mine the Highway.

Speaker 6 (25:23):
I don't care for it. For me. For those who
don't understand, it's basically spaghetti.

Speaker 5 (25:28):
Yep with cinnamon taste.

Speaker 2 (25:32):
Well yeah, cinnamon taste chili type you have onions, you
don't have any No, no for me, and I'm married
to an Italian. Right for me, it's a good way
to mess up a spaghetti.

Speaker 5 (25:46):
Rick, do you have the memories?

Speaker 13 (25:48):
I know it's a completely different ballpark, but we're really
close to where Riverfront Stadium used to be. What are
the memories that fled through your mind playing against the
big Red machine.

Speaker 2 (25:58):
I think the biggest memory was every time you came
into this town, or every time the Reds came into
Los Angeles, you had a battle in your hands because
they were both very talented teams. There's still you know,
that way Reds had not won as often as they
did back in the seventies.

Speaker 6 (26:15):
If you look in that area.

Speaker 2 (26:16):
There was a transition period between the big Red machine
and then the big Blue wrecking crew, if you will.
And we had some big battles, and I remember the
one it really started was in nineteen seventy seven, which
was Tommy's first year as the manager full time manager
of the Dodgers. We came into Cincinnati, you know, seven

(26:37):
or eight of us that were not not the pitcher,
but we would get down the left field line visiting
dugout was third base side as it is here, and
we would run in the outfield right before the ball game,
and Sparky Anderson evidently made a comment, Oh, look at
those guys down there.

Speaker 6 (26:53):
Yeah, they're running in eight different directions.

Speaker 2 (26:54):
Tommy Losorta said later on, Yeah, they were running to
eight different banks to go ahead and depositor series checks
at the end of it.

Speaker 6 (27:01):
So that was kind of a transition period. But we
knew that. You know, you look at the Reds team, you.

Speaker 2 (27:08):
Know they had guys that a lot of guys that
went into Hall of Fame, and that was the case,
and you knew that if you made a mistake against
the Reds, you were not going to win that ball game.

Speaker 13 (27:19):
There was one particular player that was the leader of
the Reds. His name was not Johnny Bench. It was
Charlie Hustle, Pete Rose. We're here in Cincinnati for the
first time since he passed away. What were your memories
of competing against Charlie Hustle.

Speaker 2 (27:33):
I think the ultimate competitor, no question about it. I
almost got into a fight with Pete Rose. I kind
of alluded to it off air with you. Pete was
playing third base and we were playing a game. It
was my recollection. It was the second game of a doubleheader,
and I believe it was Rick Suckcliffe. It was pitching,
and it may have been the first or second outing

(27:53):
for Suckcliffe at the major league level. And I think
we won the first game. The second game, Pete was
I'm not really happy with what was going on, and
he started to chirp at Sutcliffe, who I believe had
just struck him out. And we're in the third base
dugout and he starts yelling, and he looks into the
dugout and starts yelling again. And I said, hey, Pete,
why don't you just leave the guy alone. Now I'm

(28:14):
in the dugout. Pete's at third base. It's in between
the half innings, and he started yelling at me, and
I looked at him and I said, Pete, why don't
you act like the great player you really are?

Speaker 6 (28:24):
And he got mad.

Speaker 2 (28:25):
I understand why he got mad. I understand why he
was saying something. And he says, why don't you come
out here and say it? I said, you're the one
that's chirping. Why don't you come in here and say it?
And that's kind of how it went. It went back
and forth and back and forth, and that was the
end of it. I remember the year that it was.
It was nineteen seventy eight, and I remember it because
we were both on the All Star team and the
nationally the game is being played in San Diego, So

(28:48):
this is a couple of months after this event had
taken place.

Speaker 6 (28:52):
And I'm in the locker and Pete's son, Pete.

Speaker 2 (28:56):
Came over with the baseball and he goes, hey, my
dad wants to know if you'll sign it, but he
also wants to know if you're still mad at him,
and I said, here, I'll sign it, and I said,
and please tell Pete. In fact, I think I took
it over. I said, Pete, I'm not mad at you.
I know exactly what you were trying to do. I
respect that. He goes, Oh, I'm kind of glad you're
not mad at me. This is because most people are anyway.

Speaker 13 (29:16):
That's a great story, Rick, thanks for sharing it with us,
and hopefully that Dodgers can beat the Reds again today.

Speaker 2 (29:22):
Yeah, and if so, I'll send a baseball over for
you and hopefully you won't be you won't be too irritated.

Speaker 5 (29:27):
Thanks, Rick, don't be mad at me either.

Speaker 6 (29:29):
Have some Skyline chili tonight?

Speaker 5 (29:31):
No, thanks, I'll pass. I'll send it back to you
in the studio.

Speaker 3 (29:33):
Tim.

Speaker 1 (29:34):
Yeah, not a fan of that Skyline chili. Thank you guys.

Speaker 8 (29:36):
That's the Dodgers game plan. You start your future in
a California community college. That's your game plan. Financial aids
available to help you with tuition, books, sometimes even the rent.
It's time to take that next big step. Classes can
build quickly, so en roll today and I can go
to college dot com. Still to come here, I'm wrong
with casino Dodgers on deck we'll dive deeper to this
pitching matchup. Rick, We'll be back with Tim Neverett. No
Skyline Chili for the either of them. We'll have the

(29:58):
keys to the game instead. But we go high and
tie with Alex Vesia Dodgers Reds. First pitch on this
Monday is coming up at four ten. I'm Tim kase
is the world champion Los Angeles Dodgers Audio Network.

Speaker 7 (30:11):
As we were saying, this is Marongo Casino Dodgers on
tack on, the official home of La Dodgers Baseball.

Speaker 8 (30:23):
Dance the Dodgers and the Cincinnati Renz Yoshinobu Yamamoto Chase Burns.

Speaker 1 (30:27):
The pitching matchup. First pitch coming up at four to ten.

Speaker 8 (30:30):
Dodgers Baseball brought to you by Shaky's Pizza Parlor, the
official pizza partner of the Dodgers Audio Broadcast. When it's
game day, it's group day, it's Shaky's dot Com.

Speaker 7 (30:41):
And now what will likely be vast fielding insults from a.

Speaker 1 (30:45):
Dodger player, it's an engagement of endearment. This is high
and tight.

Speaker 13 (30:49):
All right, We're in Cincinnati with one of my favorite people,
enjoined the cool bench in the dugouts something you won't
feel in the Dodger bullpen, and that is World Series champion, Bessia.

Speaker 5 (31:01):
Thanks a lot for the time, Bessie. I appreciate it.

Speaker 16 (31:03):
You chose a very good place to sit after I
just got done playing catch.

Speaker 3 (31:07):
This is this is incredible.

Speaker 13 (31:09):
Yeah, I feel like we could do a twenty thirty
minute interview with the conditions on this bench.

Speaker 16 (31:13):
I'd be completely content. It's yeah, this is great, so
all good. Thanks for having me.

Speaker 13 (31:18):
Hey, just another example, how there is first class amenities
in a major league dugout when there are bare bones.

Speaker 5 (31:25):
In a major league bullpen.

Speaker 16 (31:27):
Yeah, we do what we can out there, you know,
from from time to time.

Speaker 3 (31:31):
But thankfully we got three night games. The day games
would be pretty brutal.

Speaker 13 (31:35):
We were joking in Boston that it only takes three
pitches in this type of hot, humid weather to get warm.

Speaker 3 (31:41):
Are you being serious?

Speaker 5 (31:42):
It takes you less time to warm up.

Speaker 3 (31:44):
By far, Yeah, by far.

Speaker 16 (31:45):
You're you know, just sitting out there, you're sweating, so
you don't really need to get the juices fun as
much as if it's super cold. But yeah, the humidity,
you know, being able to kind of just feel a
little bit more relaxed and loose when when at least
for me, when I'm when I'm cold, it's it takes
a little bit longer to warm up. So yeah, Boston,

(32:08):
then here in Cincinnati, then we go to Tampa. Tampa's
gonna be outrageous, especially the two day the two day games.

Speaker 5 (32:15):
Yeah, I forgot their day games, Vessieah, thanks a lot.

Speaker 16 (32:18):
Yeah Saturday, and yeah, we were dreading those so, uh,
we'll need to stay hydrated for sure.

Speaker 13 (32:24):
Hey, we were talking in the clubhouse with young Jack Dryer,
who's been phenomenal for the Dodgers. You guys are catch
partners now? Is that part of a mentorship?

Speaker 16 (32:33):
Uh? Yeah, I mean we we kind of found that
in spring training and you know, I met him last
year during the Stay Hot Camp, got to know him
a little bit, and then for then you know this year. Yeah,
I've kind of taken him under under my wing. It's
been a lot of fun. We we have a lot
of similarities. Obviously, his mind, he's that dude is a

(32:54):
super smart kid.

Speaker 3 (32:55):
So yeah, he's he's been having some great success this year.

Speaker 16 (32:58):
I'm super proud of him. But yeah, we've catch every day.
We hold each other to a pretty high standard. And yeah,
it's a it's a good relationship when you.

Speaker 5 (33:05):
Say you're similar in a lot of ways, what is
it other than being left handed?

Speaker 3 (33:11):
So it's like the list is the list is quite long.

Speaker 16 (33:16):
But to name a few, like the the other day
when we were in San Diego, we ordered case of it.
He is, chicken case it he is. So that was
like and he was like, you like those like those
are my favorites. Like, those are my favorites. So like
small stuff like that kind of the way we go
about our business and our workouts and routines and just

(33:37):
like that type of stuff is very similar. Obviously, he's
super into you know, the Rubius cube and stuff like that,
so that's not really my thing.

Speaker 3 (33:49):
But you know, he's super into music, which which is
really cool. I feel like I have a pretty good
music taste.

Speaker 16 (33:55):
So yeah, there's there's some other other things and what
not that I'm gonna I'm gonna blame right now.

Speaker 3 (34:00):
But yeah, the the funniest one was the chicken case
That was great.

Speaker 5 (34:05):
So so I love chicken kesidias too.

Speaker 3 (34:07):
They're They're a staple in my eating regimen, no doubt.

Speaker 13 (34:13):
Have you ever heard tom Y Edmond say, fa does
he says, it's so San Diego. When he said, yeah,
I have something he does.

Speaker 3 (34:20):
I mean, Tommy's got that in him. So I get it.
I get it for me and I'll butcher it. But yeah,
all good.

Speaker 13 (34:26):
How similar is Jack Dryer's fastball the way it plays
up in the zone and spins the way Alex Vesias does?

Speaker 3 (34:32):
Yeah, yeah, very very similar.

Speaker 16 (34:33):
We have this pretty similar characteristics, so you know, talking
to him in screen training and going over where to
throw it, how to throw it has definitely been you know,
we we do bounce ideas off of each other, and
I think that that, you know, looking back on microd
would have loved I have had someone that had similar pits, mixes, characteristics,

(34:56):
stuff like that. We also, you know, that means the
scout reports are are kind of similar as well. So
you know, if anything, if he's uneasy about something, you know,
he always I feel like he always comes.

Speaker 3 (35:07):
To me for that. And yeah, it's been it's been
a lot of fun watching him do a thing this year.

Speaker 13 (35:12):
It's really been a pleasure to watch you start your
Dodger career and where it's at right now. You've got
so much more career to go, but really has been
a pleasure of mind to just see you grow into
the guy that you are right now and appreciate the time.

Speaker 10 (35:26):
Yeah.

Speaker 16 (35:26):
Absolutely, it's been. It's been a super fun career so far.
I kinda have the chip on my shoulder that it's
I got nothing to lose, you know. I I my
background and coming from a Division two school, this is
this has always been the dream, so I don't ever
take it for granted.

Speaker 6 (35:42):
That's awesome.

Speaker 5 (35:43):
That's as emotional as I'll get with you.

Speaker 13 (35:45):
I'm a I'm a guy that loves to really put
what you guys have accomplished in context because we're witnessing
really a special time and you've been such a big
part of it.

Speaker 5 (35:55):
So that's it, Bessie, a premiere on out high energy.
We'll keep it loose.

Speaker 3 (35:59):
Oh yeah, we got a game to win the night, baby,
I'll be ready. I'll have my two red Bulls and
me ready to go. Oh I love it.

Speaker 5 (36:04):
Salute to that.

Speaker 3 (36:05):
There he goes.

Speaker 13 (36:06):

Chase Burns on the mound for the Reds zero and
two at the six to sixty five ERA. He's twenty
two years old, his second overall pick last year in
the draft that a wake. Forest started his collegiate career
at Tennessee. Made his major league debut this season on
June twenty fourth. Now he's making his six start at
the big league level. Last time out five and two,
thirty eight six runs, seven hits, ten strikeouts, and a

(37:38):
loss to the Nationals. He's got thirty five strikeouts in
five starts already in those five appearances. That's the most
and any Reds pitcher to start his career since Luis
Castillo in twenty seventeen. This is his first time obviously
facing the Dodgers. Yoshinobo Yamamoto on the mound for the
Blue eight and seven with the two to fifty five ERA,
making his twenty first start of this season. He has

(37:59):
already lost career highs and wins and innings pitched and strikeouts,
and he ranks him on the nationally leaders and opponent's
batting average, Ray, whip and strikeouts. Last time out, five innings,
three runs only one earned, five hits and a no
decision against the Minnesota Twins.

Speaker 6 (38:15):
On the road.

Speaker 8 (38:15):
This year, Yoshi Yamamoto five and three ath A, one
to eighty four ERA and ten starts. Only Nathan Valdi,
Ranger Suarez, and Paul Schemes have a lower road er Ray.
This will be his second career start against the Reds.
His only other start, he went five innings. He allowed
four runs on six hits while striking out eight in
a loss in May of last season.

Speaker 1 (38:36):
It's a Dodgers and.

Speaker 8 (38:38):
The Reds Yoshinobu Yamamoto and young Chase Burns, the pitching
matchup were fifteen minutes away from first pitch. Keys to
the game. Our next, I'm Tim Katson's World champion Los
Angeles Dodgers Audio Network.

Speaker 7 (38:53):
This is Marongo Casino Dodgers on tap on your home
for all season law.

Speaker 8 (39:04):
It's the Dodgers and the Reds on this Monday afternoon
from Cincinnati, Ohio. Yoshinobu Yamamoto the pitching matchup against Chase Burns,
the young twenty two year old right hander. First bitch
is coming up at four to ten. Before that we
head back out to the booth. Tim Neverrick Monday.

Speaker 9 (39:20):
Guys, Tim, thanks very much, counting it down with the
first pitch here tonight, Yoshinobu Yamamoto making his twenty first start.
And the thing about Yamamoto, he has not allowed a
very good batting average against him. He's been very good
in that area under two hundred and one to ninety
seven overall lefties hitting one seventy six right he's two eighteen.

(39:41):
The interesting thing to note, the at bats against him
are almost dead even no matter what side you're talking about.
Right handers have one hundred and ninety seven at bats,
lefties one hundred and ninety nine. So you'd figure a
right handed pitcher who's as effective as he is would
face more lefties, but it hasn't been the case.

Speaker 2 (39:57):
Yeah, and really his records should be a little bit
better than what is his twentieth start. He's made ten
home and ten on the road and on the road
and era just one point eighty four in the batting
average against a one seventy six. And you wanted to say, well,
why is it not better than five and three with
those numbers on the road. Hopefully he winds up tonight
with the record of six and three in the road.

Speaker 9 (40:18):
Chase Burns, the starter A four of Cincinnati, the youngster
with his sixth major league start, still in search of
his first major league win. The opposition hitting two seven.
I think to watch for him as the strikeout thirty
five strikeouts over twenty one and two thirds innings pitched.
It's Chase Burns for Cincinnati. Yoshinobu Yamamoto for the Dodgers.

(40:38):
Game one lineups and first pitch Just around the corner, Tim.

Speaker 8 (40:41):
All right, first pitch is coming up. Dodgers and the
Reds again. Dodgers going into play tonight having lost two
of three in Boston over the weekend, with the Padres
winning two of three over the week in themselves.

Speaker 1 (40:54):
Padres now four games.

Speaker 8 (40:55):
Back in the division going into play tonight, the Giants
on league seven games back. They have lost three in
a row. Both those teams will be in action later
on this evening. Giants at a home against the Pirates,
Padres at home tonight against Juan Soto in the New
York Mets. And keep you up to date on what's
happening to those games. David vas Day's got you cover
with the post game from Great American Ballpark when this

(41:16):
game is over all the postgame reaction, postgame Dodger talk
as well, but the Dodgers road trip in genus. Next
they're in Cincinnati for the start of a three game
set against Gavin Lux and the Reds. It's gonna be
a great pitching matchup Chase Burns, Yoshinobu Yamamoto going in
this series opener. This has been Morongo Casino Dodgers on
