Welcome to Dodgers on Tech. Now your host walking you
up to first pitch, Tim.

Speaker 8 (00:41):
Kashi, everybody, and welcome in to my Wrongo Casino Dodgers
on Deck. Hope you're enjoying your Sunday now afternoon as
your world champion Los Angeles Dodgers wrap up their home
stand at fifty six and thirty four on the season,
the first place atop the NL West. After a sweep
of the Chicago White Sox, the Dodgers now on the

(01:03):
other end, looking over to avoid getting swept by the
Houston Astros. Today in the series finale, Emmitt Shean called
up from TRIPAA, Oklahoma City. He gets to start first
pitch from Dodger Stadium is set for one tambage and
then and now we got a lot to get to
here on Morongo Casino Dodgers on deck, we'll hear from
the Dodger manager Dave Roberts says the Dodgers starting to

(01:24):
get some more injuries, this time to position players. More
on that coming up. We'll dive deeper into this pitching
match up. David Vasse goes one on one with Blake Trinan.
We've got your Dodgers magical moment. Shortly we visit with
Kirsten Watson from Sports at LA and in just a
few minutes we will head out to Steven Nelson and
Rick Monday and the Galloping Motors broadcast booth. Well, yesterday

(01:46):
it started off well for the Dodgers, just didn't end well.

Speaker 1 (01:50):
Show Hey O.

Speaker 8 (01:51):
Toddy got the start two shutout innings, struck out three
along the way through a season high thirty one pitches
over the two innings.

Speaker 1 (01:59):
That was expected.

Speaker 8 (02:00):
He was only going to go the two and the
Dodgers gave him the early lead in the first. Mookie
Betts with a bomb.

Speaker 9 (02:06):
On Thursday, Mookie hit a home run. It was his
first since June eighth. It snapped the twenty games drought,
but still a slugging percentage well below two twenty in
the last twenty two games.

Speaker 5 (02:20):
He hits the ball in the air left field.

Speaker 1 (02:21):
This is deep, this is back toward the wall.

Speaker 4 (02:23):
It is good.

Speaker 2 (02:27):
Has Mookie Betts found the power stroke a solo home run.
He celebrates between second and third. Hello, high five from
Tino Ebol. He's coming home and giving the Dodgers hey
won nothing lead.

Speaker 8 (02:41):
Mooky Bets goes deep four hundred and one feet to
left center. That is the top tier play the game,
brought to you by Arco quality, top tier gas for less.
Dodgers would attack on another in the bottom of the second,
Miguel Rojas a two out RBI single to center, scoring
Andy Pajez and the Dodgers feeling good about themselves up
two to nine, nothing and Justin Robleski taking over for

(03:02):
show Hey Otani. Unfortunately, things would unravel quickly. Four runs
put up by the Astros at the top of the third.
They added one more in the top of the fourth.
They let it five to two over the Dodgers, going
to the bottom half of the fourth inning with the
Dodgers cut into the deficit thanks to Miguel Rojas.

Speaker 4 (03:20):
That's a big call.

Speaker 9 (03:21):
Instead of Otani coming to the play with two on,
Beldez gets another chance to put Rojas away. Will be
a head start for em and off first base. Here
he goes the three to two and that's belted toward
the left center field gap. Miguel Rojas toward the wall.

Speaker 4 (03:37):
It's gone.

Speaker 1 (03:39):
It's gone, and just cut over the wall into the
home run seats.

Speaker 5 (03:43):
He may go.

Speaker 2 (03:43):
Rojas brings the Dodgers two within one, the.

Speaker 8 (03:48):
Dodgers making it a game down five to before they'd
make it interesting in the eighth as Hayter comes in
with two on and two out. He struck out a
Story Ruiz, and the ninth he let a leadoff single
to a so Tani. The Dodgers had something cooking in
the bottom half of the ninth inning, but Betts went down,
Will Smith retired, and Freddie Freeman popped out to end

(04:09):
the game and end the threat.

Speaker 1 (04:11):
The Dodgers again.

Speaker 8 (04:12):
Lose to the Astros six to four is the final
from ber Valdez goes six inning, strikes out seven. He
gets the one. He's now ten and four. Justin Robleski
gets the loss. He falls to four and three. The
Dodgers get home runs from Rojas and Bets, but not
much else from Freddie Freeman and Woner for five with
three punch outs to Oscar Hernandez went Oh for four

(04:33):
on the day with a couple of strikeouts. Shoho Tani
just one for fourth a walk at the plate. In
yesterday's game, it was Mookie Betts providing the offense when
they needed it, but the Dodgers failed to get that
hit when they needed it in the eighth and the
ninth inning, as they now dropped two straight to the
Houston Astros. They have their seven series winning streak ended

(04:53):
yesterday as they will not win this series against the Astros.
Now they're just looking to avoid getting swept. With Emmett
she on the mound in the series finale, first pitch
of one ten and with more we had out to
the Gallpin Motors Broadcast booth as we say good afternoon
to Stephen Nelson and Rick Monday.

Speaker 1 (05:08):
Guys, thank you so much.

Speaker 9 (05:10):
Tim alongside Rick Monday in the booth on this Sunday
late morning, getting ready for the series finale between the
Dodgers and the Astros, and the Dodgers looking to avoid
the series sweep.

Speaker 5 (05:22):
They've already ensured.

Speaker 9 (05:24):
That they've lost the series for the first time since
the first week of June on the road in Saint Louis, Mo.
And you know, really the blowout in Game one aside
last night was a much better ballgame, but it was
not much cleaner from the Dodgers.

Speaker 10 (05:39):
And that's the key word that Dave Roberts uses a lot.
He said, we had not played clean the baseball and
the big base running mistake. There was a big air
that was made too and missed opportunities. I mean, the
Dodgers did not create a whole lot of opportunities even
in this series. They've had just twelve at bats with
runners in scoring position, only two hits. And meanwhile for
the Astros, yes, land slide in Game one of the series,

(06:01):
but they're two for twenty six, twenty six different at
match opportunities to knock in runs. So this Dodger ball
clubs began this homestand very very very very well, winning
all three against the White Sox. I was kind of expected,
but they do not want to walk away and head
to Milwaukee tonight with a three and three homestand.

Speaker 9 (06:20):
That's right, it is a getaway day. So look, they've
run into a buzzsaw. The Astros despite not having a
couple of big pieces in their lineup yard On Alvarez
and Jeremy Paine, who's been a breakout for them at shortstop,
they're both on the injured list. They're still twenty eight
and ten their last thirty eight games, the best record
in Major League Baseball. And on this road trip for
them through Colorado and La the National League West, they're
averaging more than eight runs per game.

Speaker 1 (06:41):
And so look, and that's the whole thing about baseball.

Speaker 9 (06:44):
Over the course of one hundred and sixty two game season,
you can compare a strength to schedules and home and
roads splits and this number and that number. It's when
you catch certain teams.

Speaker 10 (06:56):
And it comes down to how do you play today.
The last two don't mean anything about today other than
the awareness of, hey, let's cut things down. I love
this situation because if you look at the Astros, yes,
they lead the American League West by seven. In front
of the Seattle they've won eight of ten, ten of
the last twelve, and If you look at the Dodgers,
they won seven of their last ten and fifteen to

(07:16):
the last twenty have also gone into the win column.
So you're talking about two first place teams. It's a
tug of war, and so far the Astros have won
each of the first two matches.

Speaker 9 (07:26):
Let me ask you this because you talk about, you know,
strength on strength, best against the best. The Dodgers now
against winning teams this year, they're twenty and twenty one. Meanwhile,
the Astros are twelve and one against first place teams,
not just winning teams, first place teams. Do you put
stock into that or do you feel that given where
the Dodgers are at, the reigning champions, a bunch of veterans,

(07:49):
it really is just about winning the division and getting
that first round by the don't care about anything else.

Speaker 10 (07:54):
Steve and I think it's a point well taken. But
here's what we don't know when we enter that. How
are the teams playing those first place teams? How were
they playing at the time that the Astros played them,
How were they playing at the time the Dodgers played them,
And what were the Dodgers doing? Who was injured, who
was pitching? Were they going to the b There's so
many different factors. That's that's why drives you crazy. We

(08:16):
start to add all the different numbers. What it comes
down to did you win the game or not? And
the Dodgers have not won each of the last two.

Speaker 9 (08:23):
Well, they got a good shot to win one today
because Emmett Sheen returns to the major leagues and returns
to the mount and if he can replicate his season debut,
then the Astros are in for a long day. Houston
will throw out the righty Ryan Gusto usually in their bullpen.
He's gonna open at least today's game. So we'll see
how this one plays out. We'll get into some keys
later on when we chat with you again.

Speaker 5 (08:44):
Tim.

Speaker 8 (08:45):
All right, thank you, nellies. We call you down to
first bitch. Dodger fans, get that game day meal on.
It's Shakey's Pizza Parlor. Yeah, a little lunch right now.
How about ordering some Shaky's Pizza Chicken Mojo's right now,
that's Shakys dot Com. I'm up here, I'm Wrongo Casino
Dodgers on deck. You're gonna hear from the manager Dave Roberts.
We'll check in with David Vassa coming up in about

(09:06):
twenty five minutes. I'm gonna hear from Charlie Steiner as
he rejoins us here on Dodgers on Deck. We'll dive
deep into this pitchy matchup as well. So much to
get to up next your Otani rewe and we visit
with Kirsten Watson from Sports to that LA. Don't you
go anywhere as we lead you up to Dodgers and
Astros on this beautiful Sunday afternoon here in Los Angeles.

Speaker 1 (09:28):
First pitch of one ten. Thanks for being with us.

Speaker 8 (09:30):
I'm Tim Kats's the world champion Los Angeles Dodgers Audio numwork.

Speaker 4 (09:36):
This is Morongo Casino Dodgers Hunters game on your home
for LA Dodgers Baseball.

Speaker 8 (09:45):
It's the Dodgers and the Astros on this Sunday afternoon.
M and she and recall from Triple A Oklahoma City
gets to start. First pitch of one ten.

Speaker 4 (09:55):
This is the Otani rewind.

Speaker 10 (09:59):
And Dave Roberts. It is very steadfast and his statement
today listen, someone said, well, pitch count, he goes no
more than forty pitches he.

Speaker 9 (10:08):
Tries again, sits him down, got him swinging on a sweeper. Show,
Hey old Tani strikes out the side in the second inning.

Speaker 1 (10:18):
The Astros are.

Speaker 9 (10:19):
Forty four and one this year when leading after eight
innings because of the back end of their pen on
a two to two Otani rope so base hit on
the right.

Speaker 8 (10:28):
Field, show, Hey Otani, two innings pitched yesterday, one hit
given up. You heard one of the three punchouts that
he had. And then at the plate goes one for
four as well with a walk on base twice. Unfortunately,
the Dodgers fell to the Astros sixty four.

Speaker 4 (10:43):
This is Kirston's Corner with Kirston Watson.

Speaker 8 (10:48):
Hey Kirson, Now Joyce has brought to you by Cars
for Kids. Ready to donate your old car? Call eight
seven seven Cars for Kids right now Bridley Agents are
standing by to take your donation. That's Cars with a
K to donate your car today, Arrison. Here we are
the Dodgers in a situation they haven't been in a
long time.

Speaker 1 (11:04):
Early June.

Speaker 8 (11:05):
The last time they lost the series, they dropped the
first two games to the Houston Astros.

Speaker 1 (11:09):
And today it must win the Salaris the series.

Speaker 11 (11:12):
Yeah, and especially it comes out of time in which
you know, they've been playing so well, and so for
how this series wined, we've seen whether it's just been
big innings from the Astros, they've been really aggressive offensively,
and even with asking Dave rob which is kind of
what he's been seeing from them, he was saying that
they're just they're taking really, really quality at bats and
they're really taking strong at bats, and so that has

(11:34):
been the benefit for them. And they're even doing this
while they're missing a couple of stars at the moment.
So for the Dodgers today and Machiane's gonna have the start,
and the hope is for him one to of course
control that. But for him, he is coming off of
with his triple A starts. One was excellent, six perfect innings,
the other one it was.

Speaker 5 (11:55):
A shorter one.

Speaker 11 (11:55):
He did get a little beat up early in that one,
but was able to only get through at sixty pitches.
So for that, that does put him in a good
spot heading into this well because he's only on four
days rest, So Dave is hopeful that he can have
a traditional start, if he said it so that if
he can get into the sixth inning, that would be fantastic.
But it's really just kind of finding ways to want
to attack them, but to control the Astros offense right now,

(12:18):
So hopefully Emmett can do just that and really setting
the tone in this one today.

Speaker 8 (12:23):
The injury bug has bit the Dodgers yet again.

Speaker 1 (12:27):
Yeah, it really has.

Speaker 11 (12:28):
I mean, look, there's you can say there's a light
at the end of the tunnel for the pitching side,
but now we're seeing a couple of guys dealing with
a few things on the position player side. So really
eyes are on both Taoscar Hernandez as well as Tommy Edmunds.
So tai Oscar actually kind of he took a foul
ball off of his foot, so he's currently getting scans
on his left foot. He of course, earlier this season

(12:49):
was placed on the el dealing with that groin injury,
and it's been clear that as much as he is
feeling better, there are times where it seems like that
injury is still bothering him.

Speaker 4 (12:58):
So now you add the foot.

Speaker 11 (13:00):
Roberts did say, depending on how the scans come back,
that is an injury that could put him on the il.
So we'll see to learn more just as this game
goes on, and hopefully after the game has to what
this means for Taoscar Hernandez. The hope is that he
does avoid the IL though, and then you have Tommy
Edmund and Tommy is dealing with an injury on his
right pinky toe, so and for him, he's someone who's

(13:22):
battled injuries this year as well, it's been the ankle,
so now the pinky toe. Dave was saying that he's
actually kind of walking a bit gingerly today, so he's
also having scans. So those are two guys are absolutely
going to keep an eye on, and it comes out
of time in which for Tommy and specific they were
hoping to move him over to third base to really
fill in for Maximunthsye while he's down on the IL

(13:43):
for about six to eight weeks with that tissing with
that knee injury. So hopefully these are guys that can
avoid an eel stint. But if you do look at
just timing, there is something too. The All Star break
is coming up, and you know what if now is
the time at least they get that additional week with
the All Star break, come back to the second half
even healthier.

Speaker 8 (14:01):
Yeah, perfect time of the year to get healthy and
get right with the All Star break nearing curiously, we
appreciate it. We'll check in with you after the game
still to come. Here on Marongo Casino Dodgers on Deck,
we'll dive deeper to this pitching matchup.

Speaker 1 (14:12):
We'll check in with David Vatsa.

Speaker 8 (14:13):
But up next we get you in more of an
injury report and we'll hear from the manager himself, Dave Roberts.

Speaker 1 (14:19):
It's the Dodgers and the.

Speaker 8 (14:20):
Astros on this Sunday afternoon, final game of the final
game of the first half at Dodgers Stadium. Dodgers hit
the road for six games going into the All Star
Breaks starting tomorrow. But first things first, Dodgers need to
get away and over the Houston Astros. First pitcher one ten.
I'm Tim Katson. This is the world champion Los Angeles
Dodgers audio number.

Speaker 4 (14:41):
This is Marongo Casino Dodgers on deck on your home
for the Blue All season low.

Speaker 8 (14:52):
Marongo Casino Dodgers on Deck intinues on this Sunday as
we lead you up to first pitch out of Dodger Stadium,
Dodgers and the Houston Astros be Causino Resort and Spa
a Grand Slam for good times.

Speaker 1 (15:03):
Immachine on the mountain, first pitch at one ten.

Speaker 4 (15:05):
This it's the LA Dodgers Injury Reports.

Speaker 8 (15:10):
And am I UCLA healthy, official medical partner of the
Los Angeles Dodgers. No tay Oscar Hernandez or Tommy Emmon
in the lineup today, both getting examined after getting hit
by a pitch and foull on a ball off their foot, respectively.
Tony Gonslin tile the glass. Now Blake Snell, Blake trying
it all in the eel. We'll hear from Blake trying
coming up in about twenty five minutes. All right, let's
tap back back to Dodgers Datuman check out the Dodger

(15:32):
skipper anything answer Dave?

Speaker 3 (15:33):
Do you think the questions for Dave?

Speaker 12 (15:35):
Dave?

Speaker 5 (15:36):
Can you just describe Dave? Can you talk about the pressure.

Speaker 4 (15:40):
In the dugouts with Dave Roberts?

Speaker 13 (15:43):
You know, I feel good about Emmett today. I just uh,
you know, obviously this is a good ball club over
there trying to find a way to win a ball
game here. Uh, just to be on the attack. The
fastball should play, you know, using his breaking ball, his
change up and just kind of stay on the attack

(16:05):
to these guys and again, good hitting ball club. But
as far as kind of plan, I feel good with
the leverage guys that we have available. And for me,
if he can touch the sixth inning, that'd be great,
but you know, give us what he can.

Speaker 8 (16:20):
Yeah, the high leverage relievers already and good to go.
They've been pitched in a long time because the Dodgers
blown out on Friday on the fourth of July and
lost yesterday six to four. When we continue here on
the Dodgers on deck, we will check in with David
Vaza coming up in about fifteen minutes.

Speaker 1 (16:35):
We'll hear from Charlie Steiner. Don't go anywhere.

Speaker 8 (16:38):
We got Blake Trinon coming up in twenty five minutes.
Lots to get to before birst pitch on this Sunday
Dodgers and Astros.

Speaker 1 (16:45):
I'm Tim kats Is the world champion Los Angeles Dodgers Audiowork.

Speaker 4 (16:51):
As we were saying, yes, is Marongo Casino Dodgers on
Jack on the official home of La Dodgers Baseball.

Speaker 8 (17:01):
It's the Dodgers and the Astros am Machine and Ry
Gusto the bitching matchup on this Sunday afternoon.

Speaker 1 (17:07):
First bitch coming up at one.

Speaker 4 (17:09):
Ten, joining Tim Kats on Dodgers on deck.

Speaker 3 (17:14):
I accept everybody for who they are.

Speaker 4 (17:16):
This is Dodger insider David BASSI all.

Speaker 8 (17:20):
Right, DV ta Oscar Hernandez not in the lineup getting
his foot looked at. How nervous should we be right now?
But impossible?

Speaker 3 (17:28):
I l stand well, Tim, I'll just say this.

Speaker 7 (17:31):
Let's start off this segment by saying, I hope I
don't open up old wounds. But Oral Herscheizer is in
the booth and he has not taking a victory lap
for going viral. He doesn't live for going viral. But
him and Rick Munday are in here talking shop real baseball.

Speaker 3 (17:48):
That's what we're doing right now.

Speaker 7 (17:51):
Anyway, Tim, Yeah, ta Oscar Hernandez not in the starting
lineup today. I guess he filed a ball off his
left foot yesterday and that was a concern for the
Dodgers and possibly an il stint.

Speaker 3 (18:04):
But it's hard to ignore the fact.

Speaker 7 (18:06):
That Taioscar Hernandez the last month of this season is
hitting a buck eighty eight. He's only slugging three twenty
and told us in Kansas City the reason why he's
not participating in the home run Derby is because of
the groin injury that landed him on the il back
in May, and obviously he's not playing his best in

(18:27):
right field. He doesn't seem to have the mobility out there,
and that's why I asked Dave Roberts about it and
kind of pressed him a little bit, because no matter
what Taoscar Hernandez says, he just doesn't look right at
the plate or in right field.

Speaker 8 (18:41):
David is driven by your twenty twenty five four f
one to fifty from California's best selling truck Ran. It's
time to see Ford in a new light. Ford for America,
from America. All right, the All Star Reserves and now's
later today, David, what do we expect from the Dodgers.

Speaker 7 (18:58):
Yeah, well, I know everybody in La want Sandy pat
has to be part of the All Star Reserves, and look,
he's worthy of it. But the fact is every team
has to be represented. And now you have a starting
outfield without Juan Soto and James Wood, who are extremely deserving.
So that's going to complicate matters, especially with Corbyn Carroll

(19:23):
coming back. But I would expect the slam dunk to
be Yoshi Yamamoto. And here's something that I haven't mentioned,
but I feel like it could be a possibility. I
don't want to offend Clayton Kershaw because he hasn't said
this is his last season, and he's pitched pretty well.
But what about making Clayton Kershaw a legacy pick for

(19:46):
the National League All Star Team? Would that offend him?
That's something I wanted to ask Dave Roberts since he
is the manager, but it comes down from the commissioner's office.
Is that something anybody would consider this year?

Speaker 8 (19:59):
I feel like we've seen that before, right Dave Albert
Poolhols a couple of years ago at the end of
his career.

Speaker 1 (20:04):
We've seen this move made before in baseball.

Speaker 7 (20:07):
Yeah, back in twenty twenty two, pool Hools was the
legacy pick for the National League, Miguel Cabrera the legacy
pick for the American League. But those two guys made
an announcement before the season that that was it for them.

Speaker 3 (20:20):
Kershaw has not done that.

Speaker 7 (20:22):
But I mean, there is a possibility, a strong one,
that this is his last year in Major league baseball.
I thought it would be kind of cool if that's
a consideration. And look, Kershaw wants to earn everything he gets,
so I don't think he wants any sort of charity,
but I mean, I'm.

Speaker 3 (20:40):
Just throwing it out there.

Speaker 7 (20:41):
Yeah, would it make sense to have Kershaw be the
legacy pick for the National League.

Speaker 8 (20:45):
It makes sense. That's why baseball won't do it, David,
because it makes sense. So, uh, good idea, good idea.

Speaker 1 (20:50):
I appreciate it.

Speaker 3 (20:51):
All right, Well, thank you, hey, Victory lap There you go.

Speaker 5 (20:53):
Take that.

Speaker 8 (20:54):
Victory lap enjoined on this Sunday, David coming up here
on Wrongo because you know, Dodgers on deck will here
from Charlie Steiner. Yes, coming up in less than ten minutes.
Coming up in about fifteen to twenty minutes. You'll hear
from Blake trying so much to get to but up
next your Dodgers Magical Moment. Dodgers and Astros first pitch
on this Sunday at one ten. I'm Tim Kass, the
world champion Los Angeles Dodgers Audio Network.

Speaker 4 (21:14):
No, this is Morongo, Casino, Dodgers Hunters on your home

We'll see first pitch of one ten.

Here all, name a hot dog who wants a hot cod.

Speaker 4 (21:47):
It's time for the Hawfe Magical Moment. Ditch Magical Magic
presented by Hawby Hot Dogs.

Speaker 8 (21:54):
Well, it's the eighty third anniversary of the nineteen forty
two All.

Speaker 1 (21:59):
Star Game at the Old Polo Grounds.

Speaker 8 (22:02):
In that game, Dodger Mickey Owen its first ever Dodger
home run.

Speaker 6 (22:08):
Al Benton is all set again. Here's the next one
to all on Owen swings. There's a high fly ball
going to toward light field.

Speaker 3 (22:12):
That may be a home run fit pay.

Speaker 12 (22:15):
Home run by a you are planners.

Speaker 6 (22:28):
There's a hole run from mckney Owen into the right
field stands. Yes, sir, this National League team is still
battling here in New York in this All Star Game.
It's three to one now in favor of the American League.

Speaker 1 (22:40):
Bob Elson on the call.

Speaker 8 (22:41):
Mickey Owen HiT's his first ever Dodger home run in
the All Star Game. He would play for the Brooklyn
Dodgers from nineteen forty one to nineteen forty five, a
four time All Star, including a time there the home

Speaker 10 (24:00):
Okay, thanks very much, Tim as we get set to
go gorgeous weather here for the finale of this homestand
that i'd just trying to a salvage one game of
the other three game series against the Houston Astros. Baseball
has been a wonderful conduit to make friends. The broadcasting
end of it has been a wonderful contact to make friends.
And one of my good friends and our good friend

(24:21):
on the other end of the line, Charlie Stein, are
feeling much much better. And Chazz, you and I have
been teammates and broadcast partners for a long time, and
you're feeling much much better, and we're feeling much much
better and being able to talk with you.

Speaker 5 (24:34):
All this and I thought i'd dial the wrong number.

Speaker 10 (24:37):
That may have been the case, but very quickly you're
feeling better, and we're delighted because we have a chance.
Now you and I talk all the time, and it's
much better to be able to talk on the radio
and talk about the Dodgers, because this is a ball
club that is Yes, it's overcome some obstacles, that being injuries,
and then we've got right spots and we've got a
whole lot to talk about. Let's talk about show hey

(24:59):
Otani yesterday again, I mean captures everyone's attention, first of all,
because he's in the lineup every day as the designated
hitter yesterday dual purpose, the starting pitcher and the DH
and by the way, his thirty first birthday.

Speaker 5 (25:12):
And he threw thirty one pitches. And whenever O'tani does
pretty much near anything, there is a story. You are
watching him closely, watched him throw every pitch. Where is
he now in his progression heading toward as the Dodgers
are October? What do you think? Where did he go?
He certainly was very good yesterday and has been good

(25:34):
in spot appearances. Where is he do you think on
this progression?

Speaker 10 (25:39):
I think he's really on track. I think the big
thing is for Dave Robertson and roberts talks to Atani. Now,
you've been around great players. You understand the mental aspects
of it, the challenge of it too.

Speaker 5 (25:50):
What about at home?

Speaker 10 (25:52):
When Otani is the starting pitcher, he comes off the mound,
doesn't even get all the way into the dugout because
he has to change. First of all, give the glove
to the back boy, get his batting gloves, get the helmet,
I mean, the elbow pad, the shin guard, does a
lot of different stuff. And then oh, by the way,
go up and hit right away.

Speaker 5 (26:08):
And on this progression, you know, he's gotten no further
than two innings to this point last time I checked.
Come October is gonna have to be a lot more
than that.

Speaker 10 (26:18):
We saw Clayton Kershaw make his first pitch in a
Dodger uniform this week. He was able to capture something
that doesn't happen, that offer that's three thousand strikeouts. Any
memories of Kershaw when we first saw him as a young,
challenging left hander that, by the way, captured everybody's attention early,
even in spring training in Vero Beach.

Speaker 5 (26:40):
I remember, he was almost a shy, retiring kid who
could throw. Certainly he had the skills. What was he
going to do? How is he going to progress? Did we?
Certainly I did not have any idea that he would
be a three thousand strikeout pitcher. But he has and
he's headed to the Hall of Fame. I mean, he

(27:03):
was always a tough, gritty kid, but in those days
he really didn't show it. He was rather shy and retiring.
You know, he couldn't even drink legally when we first met.

Speaker 10 (27:15):
Him, well out and he caused a lot of people
who want to be drinking right after they faced him.
But that was a different story and stuff. Let's talk
about this Dodger ball club. You're watching it along with
us at the same time. Fifty six and thirty four,
they started eight games in front of San Diego, also
in San Francisco. Does this start, and we're now just
past the halfway mark, does it surprise you at all

(27:38):
that the Dodgers are as far ahead as they are
in the Western Division or not even farther ahead.

Speaker 5 (27:45):
And that is a great question. And our friend Dylan
Hernandez at a great piece in the La Times this week. Okay,
right now, as play begins today, after ninety games played
this season, they're eight games of the Padres and the Giants,
and that was the expectation going in. But the other

(28:07):
thing isn't the Dodgers, and we've talked about this over
the years, play to a higher standard. Are they playing
as well as their record would indicate fifty six and
thirty four, or is it the other guys who aren't.
And I don't know the answer to that yet.

Speaker 10 (28:22):
We're going to find out chance. I know one thing.
We also found out you're feeling better.

Speaker 5 (28:26):
Boy.

Speaker 10 (28:26):
That puts a smile on all of our faces. And
all we can tell you is keep feeling better and better.
And we miss you on a daily basis, my friend, and.

Speaker 5 (28:36):
I miss you, guys, more than you can possibly know.

Speaker 10 (28:38):
Charlie Steiner, right now, let's send it back to the studio.
Tim Kate standing by Tim.

Speaker 1 (28:43):
All right, thank you, Moe. Great to hear your voice.

Speaker 5 (28:45):

Speaker 1 (28:46):
That's the Dodgers game plan. What's your game plan? Dodger fans?

Speaker 8 (28:49):

Dodger player.

Speaker 14 (30:25):
It's an engagement of endearment.

Speaker 4 (30:27):
This is high and tugged.

Speaker 7 (30:29):
All right, I can't ignore my other Blake, Blake Trining,
a two time World Series champion, is on his way
back and wearing the Dodger Clubhouse with the Blake Trnan
who's wearing his World Series gold hat right now backwards.
He's got his beard perfectly quaffed, he's got his hair
perfect even when he takes that hat off. And he's
allowed me to be in his locker room space. So

(30:50):
I appreciate the time.

Speaker 15 (30:51):
Blake, Yeah, no problem. You're just talking really loud right now,
Dave so great be on your show.

Speaker 14 (30:56):
Thanks for having me.

Speaker 3 (30:57):
Am I loud talking in the clubhouse.

Speaker 15 (30:58):
You are loud talking. Make a little uncomfortable. I'm waiting
for a lou to do a dynamite drop in over here.

Speaker 7 (31:03):
So hey, did you know did you know, sweet lu
Trevino not Italian?

Speaker 15 (31:08):
Nah, He's an Ecuadorian, Ecuadorian, Puerto Rican and Pennsylvania Dutch.

Speaker 3 (31:16):
That is a good friend, nothing gets by this Blake.

Speaker 14 (31:18):
Tryning Ecuadorians are in the big leagues.

Speaker 3 (31:23):
I don't think many.

Speaker 14 (31:24):
Yeah, Lou might be the best of all time. We
should look it up.

Speaker 3 (31:26):
Okay, we'll look it up. Blake.

Speaker 7 (31:29):
You've thrown two live batting practices. I feel like that's
more of a simulated game. How did how did you
feel after those two?

Speaker 5 (31:38):
Uh?

Speaker 14 (31:39):
Good and bad? In both good.

Speaker 5 (31:41):
Good.

Speaker 15 (31:41):
In the first one with how I executed against lefties,
I thought I was able to, you know, execute a
couple of sequences that I've used in the past, things
that I've had to adjust to in the past, you know,
like mixing up first pitches differently and then executing late
with different pitches.

Speaker 14 (31:58):
And the righty I faced was okay.

Speaker 15 (32:01):
You know, I had some pitches that were good that
first one that We're good that I executed. But I
hate walking guys, especially in a sim When these guys
are coming up from ranch over wherever and they're anticipating
getting strikes, and you know, you walk a guy, It's
kind of frustrating. Yesterday was better versariety, for sure, and

(32:21):
a lot worse vers lefty.

Speaker 14 (32:23):
So I'm gonna give up.

Speaker 1 (32:26):
A fly ball out to left a five pitch.

Speaker 15 (32:30):
Walk on Competitive and then a two pitch singled over
the second basement. So that part's frustrating, but overall good
coming out of it well, checking boxes each day, so yeah,
we're in a good place.

Speaker 7 (32:44):
It seems like relievers have a different type of schedule
than starters. Obviously, do you have to complete and start
from spring trending all over again where you're in six, seven,
eight rehab games before you come back.

Speaker 15 (32:57):
I haven't had a chance to look at the schedule completely,
but I think when we get to that point, it's
going to be closer to that idea than somebody who's
been throwing and is on like a fifteen day and
comes back, as you saw with Kirby. You know, Kirby
had had a quick stint and through it maybe one
same game and was back with the guys. Because he

(33:17):
never really stopped throwing. It was something totally different. But
I think when you're dealing with our issues that keep
you out for a while to where.

Speaker 14 (33:25):
You can't throw and you have to take an extended
period of time off.

Speaker 15 (33:27):
I was just four to five weeks of no throw,
you know, so that's an off season rest. So you
got to build all the way back up, re ramp
back up to some capacity, and make sure that when
you come back, you're not handcuffing the manager on when
to use you and then screwing the rest of the
guys in the bullpen with maybe some unwanted three out
of fours or you know, two out.

Speaker 14 (33:44):
Of three's or three straight.

Speaker 15 (33:45):
You know, you don't really want to come back and
be the guy that's causing other people to not get
a break when they've been grinding all year. So just
making sure they'm in a good place bounce back wise,
health wise, stuff wise, and that there's no reservations when
I get back.

Speaker 14 (33:58):
That's the biggest goal.

Speaker 3 (34:00):
Blake Trinon is our guest.

Speaker 5 (34:01):
Blake.

Speaker 7 (34:03):
I don't know if you view yourself this way, but
when we see you on the mound, even in simulated games,
you have this presence in this era of a two
time World Series champion, a guy that meant a lot
to the Dodgers last October.

Speaker 3 (34:16):
Do you feel that way?

Speaker 7 (34:17):
I mean, does it feel different to be that guy?

Speaker 14 (34:21):
I don't really view it that way.

Speaker 15 (34:24):
To hear other people speak highly of you and like
maybe the character in the way you carry yourself, like
that's probably the ultimate compliment.

Speaker 14 (34:31):
So thanks for that.

Speaker 15 (34:32):
If that's how people feel, and even better, ultimately, I
go back to it.

Speaker 14 (34:39):
People know my.

Speaker 15 (34:39):
Heart, it's to serve and honor God with the talents
he's given me. So when I'm out there, I'm not
playing for mediocrity.

Speaker 14 (34:47):
You know, I've got a God to bless. I've got a.

Speaker 15 (34:50):
Family to bless and an organization to bless who's blessed
me and my family more than I could imagine.

Speaker 14 (34:55):
So how do I do that?

Speaker 15 (34:57):
It's my skill set and my talent that I've been
annoyed with and blessed with.

Speaker 14 (35:01):
So I'm trying to.

Speaker 15 (35:02):
Live in the ability I've been given and execute the
best I can to be the best pitcher in baseball
in the role the Dodgers trust me in. So yes,
I want to be dominant. Yes, I want to have success,
and it's it's for multitude of reasons. So if you
guys see this competitive edge or demeanor that you like
to talk about, then that's a good thing because that

(35:23):
means that my mind is in a great place in
my attitude and competitiveness reflects that.

Speaker 14 (35:27):
So yeah, I thank you for the praise. I appreciate it.

Speaker 7 (35:30):
I feel like batters are feeling that too. That's the
most important thing, you know, when you it's one. I
mean those guys yesterday they were intimidating.

Speaker 15 (35:37):
They'll stop it da if had the hitters have had
like a three month hiatus of having to face me,
so they've gotten some other nasty guys in our pen.

Speaker 5 (35:46):
You know.

Speaker 15 (35:46):
It's the hardest thing about being on the il is
probably sitting and not competing, you know. And you play
this game because you love the sport. You crave the
competition and everything comes with it, the bad, the.

Speaker 14 (36:01):
Emotions that are good and bad.

Speaker 15 (36:03):
If everything was great, and you wouldn't appreciate the good times,
you know, because you wouldn't have anything.

Speaker 14 (36:07):
To compare it to.

Speaker 15 (36:08):
So certainly done a lot of reflecting through this process,
and it's probably been the hardest one for me, really, Yeah,
I think so, because you work so hard to get
back from the shoulder, which you knew it was going
to be a process, and this one you know it's
gonna take time, but it's so it's just so different.

(36:28):
The other one was finite. You knew you needed to
have procedures, and there's a process that you've been prepared
for before you go into it, and this one it's like, man,
you think you you think you get over that hurdle,
and something else, you know, creeps in for whatever reason,
and now I'm dealing with the elbow. But you know,
by the grace of God, it's it's been going good
and I've I'm feeling stronger and healthier. And yeah, it's

(36:52):
just been really trying, you know, like especially when you
see guys you've been used a lot, you know they
can handle it, they're they're they're pros, but not being
there to help out this is really hard.

Speaker 7 (37:03):
Thanks a lot for the time, Blake. It's great to
see you smile. I know it's been a long process,
but I'm here to support you. I'm the wind beneath
your wings.

Speaker 15 (37:11):
All right, So without the corner, this has been great
having a conversation with you. You're the man, Dave, appreciate you.

Speaker 7 (37:16):

wait to see you back.

Speaker 5 (37:18):

Speaker 14 (37:19):
Thanks, appreciate it.

Speaker 5 (37:19):

Speaker 3 (37:20):
Thank you? There he is my guy, Blake trying. Don't
tell anybody else.

his twelve start nineteenth appearance. Today's his first start since
June twenty second against the Angels. Amongst American League rookies,
he has got five wins, which is tied for second most.

(38:40):
Last time out, four innings, four runs, seven hits, four
strikeouts coming out of the bullpen and relief against the
Cubs last Saturday.

This is his first time facing the Dodgers. Emmett Sheen

When the boys in Blue play at home, it's important

Speaker 9 (40:25):
One final time for the Dodgers and Astros in this
three game series, and Houston has a chance to sweep
the Dodgers, and the Dodgers trying to avoid a second
home sweep this season, and happened in the middle of
May against the Angels. Of course, they'll know the Dodgers
have played much better baseball since then. They're twenty seven
and sixteen. Then what are the keys for them today
against Ryan Gusto and the Astros to avoid another sweep?

Speaker 10 (40:47):
I think the big key right now is emmachian A.
How long he will be going and at the top
of the list, I think even above that, throwing strikes,
challenging hitters. He's got good stuff and his rehabs have
been very good. Now is going to stretch his wings
a little bit more today and hopefully just kind of
challenge the Astros, which I thought that joey Otani did

(41:07):
a very good job in the first two innings of
doing that yesterday before run of the Astros unloaded in
the third inning with four runs, but I think throwing
strikes on the flip side of the coin for Gusto
who is throwing for the Astros. The Dodgers have a
lot of left handed batters in the lineup. The reason
I made mention of that right handed hitters are hitting
two fifty two with two home runs off of Gusto,

(41:29):
but lefties hitting three oh seven. They've hit eight home
runs against the right handed Well.

Speaker 9 (41:36):
The Astros have taken it to the Dodgers the first
two games of the series. Will Sunday be a different story.
We'll find out in a matter of moments. Tim as
first pitch is rapidly.

Speaker 8 (41:44):
