Tim kats Hi, everybody, and welcome into my Wrongo casino.

Speaker 2 (00:47):
Dodgers on deck.

Speaker 1 (00:48):
Hope you're enjoying this warm Wednesday afternoon here in southern California.
As the world champion Los Angeles Dodgers continue this four
game series in Denver, seventy two and fifty four first
place atop the NL West, they can't shake the San
Diego Padres, as they are still two games up in
the division. Padres keep winning, Dodgers, keep winning. Dodgers got

(01:12):
the win last night.

Speaker 2 (01:13):
They look to do it.

Speaker 1 (01:13):
Again tonight with show Hey o'tani on the mound first
pitching Coors Field. This is coming up at five forty.
Between then and now, we got a lot to get
to here on Morongo Casino. Dodgers on deck, including and
going one on one with David Vase. He'll go one
on one with Alex wood former Dodger left tender, now
retired from Major League Baseball. We'll hear from Woody coming

(01:36):
up in forty five minutes. Manager Dave Roberts will get
his pregame thoughts. We'll dive deeper into this pitching matchup.
We got your Dodgers magical moment. Shortly we'll head down
to the field a course field and here from Kirsten
Watson live from Sports and at LA and A. Just
a few minutes, we'll hear from Tim nevererde and Rick
Monday out at the Gallpin Motors Broadcast booth. So a
busy hour coming up as we lead you up to

(01:58):
first pitch from the Mile City. Last night, the Dodgers
scored early and scored often against Austin Gomber, handing him
yet another loss as the Dodgers erupted for eleven runs
on eighteen hits they got. The scoring started early thanks
to Freddy Freeman.

Speaker 7 (02:15):
I with pitch, he swings and he lifts this one
of the gap in left center field. That Bole's gonna
get down and go to the wall around third is Smith.
He will come in to score and in with career
double number five hundred and forty is Freddy Freeman and
the Dodgers lead it one to nothing.

Speaker 1 (02:32):
Freddy Freeman just like that gives the Dodgers a one
to nothing lead. Then ta Oscar Hernandez an RBI double
as the Dodgers led two to nothing.

Speaker 2 (02:41):
And in the second the.

Speaker 1 (02:42):
Bottom of the order came through for the Dodgers as
all Alex Call delivered.

Speaker 7 (02:48):
Austin Gomber, the Colorado left hander, delivers swinging a long
drive Deita left and that one is gone, Alex Call
with the first pitch home run here on the back
in it it's three nothing, Dodgers fourth on run of
the season for Call as he dialed long distance here
in Colorado.

Speaker 5 (03:08):
Now Carl knew it was gone as soon as he
hit it. Put it into home run truck mode.

Speaker 1 (03:14):
Alice Call answered right there with the home run show
Hey Otani would also go deep in the second inning
to give the Dodgers a four to nothing lead for
Otani his forty fourth home run of the season.

Speaker 2 (03:28):
The Dodgers weren't done.

Speaker 1 (03:29):
After scoring two in the first, two in the second,
they scored three more in the third. They attack on
three more in the seventh, one more in the nine
thanks to Will Smith's RBI single. The Dodgers had eighteen hits.
Alex Call was a triple shy of the cycle. Will
Smith had three hits to raise his NL leading batting
average to three to zero eight. All nine starters had

(03:52):
at least one hit for the Dodgers last night, who
beat the Colorado Rockies eleven to four, and they win
for the eleventh time in the last twelve meetings.

Speaker 2 (04:01):
Kyle Carrols Eric Carrols'.

Speaker 1 (04:03):
Soun third basement for the Rockies, hit his first major
league home run with a blast off of Image.

Speaker 2 (04:09):
She and congratulations to him.

Speaker 1 (04:11):
Image and picks up the victory, going six and he's
striking out seven along the way. He improves the four
and two Austin Gomer still winless on this season. He
is now zero and seven as the Dodgers now seventy two.

Speaker 2 (04:22):
And fifty four overall.

Speaker 1 (04:23):
They remained two games up on the padres in the division,
and tonight they look to do it again in Colorado
with show Hey Otani on the mound, first pitch coming
up at five point forty with more, Let's head out
to the Galpin Motors Broadcast booths. We welcome in Tim
Neverert and Rick Monday.

Speaker 7 (04:38):
Guys, Tim, thanks, another nice night here in Denver for
a ball game, Game.

Speaker 3 (04:43):
Three of this four game series.

Speaker 7 (04:44):
Dodgers evening it up last night with a decisive eleven
to four victory, and tonight's show Hey O'tani will pitch
and hit you will start? Has no decisions on the season,
hasn't pitched long enough to earn one. He might tonight, however,
talk about that in a little while, but he will
be leading off. Trailing Kyle Schwarber of the Phillies in

(05:05):
terms of home runs in the National League. Schwarber homert
earlier today. He's got forty five. Oh, Tony with forty four.
But what we saw last night, mode, especially with the bats,
was much better. Defensively also good, But the Dodgers were
really really good with runners in scoring position. They got
hits when they needed them.

Speaker 5 (05:23):
They looked they played like they were irritated from the
night before where they lost in a walk off base
hit in the bottom of the ninth inning, and last
night you start to look at what they were able
to do. I think a couple of different things really
impressed me, and one was the fact that they made contact.
You know, they struck out only two times last night.
They had eighteen hits, really right from the get go,

(05:44):
and again we saw a ball club. Tim We keep
talking about it, and we've talked about it for two
years now, beginning in spring trending. This is a club
that has an a canny ability with two outs of nobody
on to start all of a sudden, measuring the opposing
pitcher exactly what they did in the very first inning
and night's game.

Speaker 7 (06:00):
And now two hundred and eighty runs with two outs
that leads Major League Baseball. Let's get to the leadoff
hitter show Hey Otani seventeen game on Bay streak. He's
been on base in every single game this month and
during that stretch, hitting three to eighty one with six
home runs. No mookie bets in the lineup tonight, Will
Smith hitting behind Otani, so Otani can help his own

(06:22):
cause as he is also the starting pitcher.

Speaker 5 (06:24):
Well, Otani's just been amazing, and in this segment we'll
talk about the offense. We'll talk about the pitching a
little bit later on. But if you start to look
at the Dodger history, you know, only five seasons has
a Dodger hitter had forty four home runs or more.
Otani has done it twice. He did it last year,
He's already done it this year Sean Green hit forty

(06:45):
nine and two thousand and one forty eight home runs
by Adrian Beltre, forty seven by Cody Belzer, and then
Otani this year already has the forty four. So we're
talking about rare fired air and those aren't Those are
not the only numbers that he's chasing. Will you get
into some of those later on.

Speaker 7 (07:00):
One of the numbers, one thousand Tonight is his one
thousandth major League game, and for Otani two hundred and
sixty nine career home runs. He has gotten to that
number pretty quickly, and a couple of players over the
course of history that had that many home runs through
a thousand games, Aaron Judge, Ryan Howard, Ralph Kiner, Harmon Killerbrew.

(07:21):
The list kind of goes on and Otani's in a
great group.

Speaker 5 (07:24):
You know. Another thing, Mookie Betts went into Dave Roberts'
office two nights ago after that walk off of victory
by the Rockies, and one of the things that they
may have been talking about is the fact that Betts
is not in the starting lineup tonight day game tomorrow,
the one to San Diego to face the pre So
it's kind of a respite for Mookie. Betts was not
on the field taking ground balls as he normally does

(07:46):
before the game today, and this is a good night
to say, hey, look, you're facing a guy that has
a very high batting average against very high ee er
against him, So go ahead and sit down Mookie Betts
tonight and let him have a breathering.

Speaker 7 (08:00):
Eric Carros is here again today as a spectator, but
his son Kyle is not in the lineup. But last
night kind of a neat moment for our colleague as
Ek got to watch his son hit his first major
league home.

Speaker 5 (08:11):
Ern always nice for dad because, as you know his parents,
you get very nervous when you see your children under
the spotlight. But he stood tull last night.

Speaker 7 (08:21):
So the Dodgers and the Rockies Dodgers two games up
over the Padres in the West seventy two and fifty four,
Rockies thirty six and ninety thirty six. Off the page,
show Hey Otani against Tanner Gordon. That's the pitching matchup
as we count you down to the first pitch in
lower Downtown Denver.

Speaker 1 (08:40):
Tim all right, thank you, guys, were off and run
as we count you down to first pitch. Dodger fans
get that game day meal on He's Shaky's Pizza Parlor,
or to your Shaky's Pizza, Chicken and Mojo's Right now,
it's Shaky's dot Com. Coming up here on Dodgers on Deck,
you're gonna hear from the manager Dave Roberts. We will
check in with David Vaz say he's gonna go one
on one with former Dodger Alex wood who just recently

(09:02):
announced his retirement. We'll hear from Woody. Coming up at
five point fifteen. We'll dive deeper in to this pitching matchup,
of course, with the Dodgers sending out show Hey Otani,
we got the Otani rewind next and we go live
to the field in Denver with Kirsten Watson from Sports
and at LA. That's all coming up as we lead
you up to first pitch on this hot Wednesday night

(09:22):
Dodgers Rockies from a Mile High City.

Speaker 2 (09:25):
Thanks for being with us.

Speaker 1 (09:26):
I'm Tim Kass, the world champion Los Angeles Dodgers Audio Network.

Speaker 4 (09:33):
This is Morongo Casino Dodgers Hunt on your home for
LA Dodgers Baseball.

Speaker 1 (09:43):
It's a Dodgers and Rockies on this Wednesday night show.
Hey Otani, Tanner Gordon. The pitching match up. More than
numbers coming up between those two and just a little bit.
First pitch of five forty This is the Otani.

Speaker 7 (09:55):
Rewind one and Otani rips it tape to right field.
This one heading back and it has gone a home
run into the Rockies bullpen. A bullet hit right over
the fence, past the three seventy five marker. Showtime in
a Mile High City. Home run number forty four and

(10:15):
Otani retakes the National League lead in home runs.

Speaker 5 (10:18):
I'll tell you what if that ball had hit defense,
who would have destroyed it?

Speaker 4 (10:24):
Wow?

Speaker 7 (10:26):
Mo one hundred and sixteen miles an hour off the
bat traveling four hundred and thirteen feet.

Speaker 1 (10:33):
Wow show, Hey Otani crushes it to right center of
the second inning last night, part of the Dodgers offensive
explosion home run number forty four. Otani Kyle Schuber also
went deep yesterday. So Otani and Shober now remained tied
atop the nationally with forty four home runs each.

Speaker 4 (10:52):
This is Kirston's Corner with Kirston Watson.

Speaker 1 (10:57):
Hey Karson now joins us live from the field. I'm Denver.
Brought to you by Cars for Kids. Ready to donate
that old car? Call eight seven seven Cars for Kids
right now, friendly agents standing bind to take your donation.

Speaker 2 (11:08):
That's Cars with the K to.

Speaker 1 (11:09):
Donate your car today show Hey O, tany on the mound,
make of the start of the mile high City.

Speaker 2 (11:16):
What do we expect at a show?

Speaker 4 (11:19):
Yeah?

Speaker 8 (11:20):
So the hope is for him to get through five innings.
We know in his last game against the Angels that
was the plan for him as well. The pitchcownt got up,
it was a bit more taxing. The positive is he
was able to get up to eighty pitches and so
it was talking to Dave Roberts today, it was more
of it. Are you all more focused on the pitchcount?
Are you more focused on the innings? Of work right now.
He said he believes that it's still the inning side,

(11:42):
just because look, we are playing in Denver, Colorado, We're
at altitude, so this is going to be it's just
more challenging on the body in general. So they're going
to keep a close eye on him. The game might
be a little bit more taxing for him, so they're
going to see if you can get through five, great,
but exsting like that will truly be the limit for
him today.

Speaker 1 (12:00):
Now, we've been talking about it on Dodger Talk for
the last few weeks. What are they going to do
with show, hey, Otani in this rotation come playoff time?

Speaker 2 (12:07):
We got six starters? Did somebody go to the bullpen?

Speaker 1 (12:10):
And even the idea of showing Otani becoming a closer?
Is that something that could be reality?

Speaker 8 (12:17):
You know it is it's anything is possible. Let's be
honest at this rate, and so once October comes, we'll
have a better idea. They're kind of preparing for it and.

Speaker 4 (12:24):
What the rotation looks like.

Speaker 8 (12:26):
He's healthy, who's ready, things like that, but it is possible.
Dave Robertson say, it's something that they've been having conversations
about internally, and if they were to do that, then
it's something we'd likely be seeing like the final few
weeks of the regular season, preparing him for it to
then step into that role. Of course, we know it
is something that he has done in the World Baseball Classic,

(12:47):
so it's not like it'd be new to him, but
just seeing how it kind of works with the team
and game planning, that is something they would test out.
But nothing has been decided just yet. Nothing is set
in stone, but it is it's a conversation that is
on the table and they'll kind of.

Speaker 4 (12:59):
See what happens tomorrow.

Speaker 1 (13:01):
The Dodgers will get out of Denver after the final
game of this four game series. If day game after
a ninth game, it's already been established. Show, Hey, Otani's
going to get the day off, right.

Speaker 8 (13:12):
Yeah, it has been because you know, look when we
look at his last few outings, they've all been kind
of paired with the off day on Thursday, So of
course we know, and this is a four game series,
there is not the off day on Thursday. The Dave
Roberts decided just with playing here at altitude, he does
want to give him a day to recover before heading
to San Diego. That's going to be an exciting series.

Speaker 4 (13:30):
We already know that.

Speaker 8 (13:31):
So with tomorrow's plan, it does sound like Will Smith
will be in as the d eight Partie was kind
of laughing with me earlier and he said he got
a text saying asking if he wanted to see it
as the DHS tomorrow, and he was like, nope, but
I felt that. I definitely like said that without asking
Will if he was okay being in the game. So regardless,
he'll be in the game. So yeah, I was like, well, okay, fair,

(13:55):
He's like, I'll be at fir space. I was like,
all right, and that's and that.

Speaker 5 (13:58):
Is the answer.

Speaker 8 (13:59):
So we'll be seeing Freddie at first tomorrow and then
Will and as the.

Speaker 2 (14:03):
Dh sounds like a great plan.

Speaker 1 (14:05):
Get Showy off his feet, but of course keep all
the other bats in the line of Kristen.

Speaker 2 (14:10):
We appreciate it still to come.

Speaker 1 (14:11):
Here on Marongo Casino, Dodgers on Deck will dive deeper
into this bitchy matchup. David Vassy goes one on one
with Alex Wood, former Dodger who has announced his retirement.
But up next, we'll get you an injury report and
we'll here from the manager himself, Dave Roberts. It's all
coming up. We lead you up to Dodgers and Rockies
from Denver. First pitch at five forty of Tim Kats
is the world champion Los Angeles Dodgers audio number.

Speaker 4 (14:35):
This is Marongo Casino Dodgers on deck on your home
for the blue all season long.

Speaker 1 (14:44):
Marongo Casino Dodgers on deck inten uses.

Speaker 2 (14:47):
We lead you up to first pitch.

Speaker 1 (14:49):
It's the Dodgers and the Rockies, Game three of this
four game set. They split the first two games. Marongo
Casino Resort and Spa and Grand Slam for good times.
First pitch coming up at five forty.

Speaker 4 (15:01):
It's the LA Dodgers.

Speaker 1 (15:03):
Injury report presented by UCLA Healthy Official medical partner of
the Los Angeles Dodgers. Max Munsey on the iel with
the right oblique injury, Rock Stewart on the iel with
the right shoulder inflammation. Kirbya's Tanner, Scott Michael Kopek, Rookie
Sosaki all in minor league rehab assignments. Trying to get
back to this Dodger rotation and bullpen as fast as
they can. Keith Hernandez also progressing it from coming off

(15:27):
the Angine list. We could see him, as David Vasse
reported a couple of days ago. Maybe next week. All right,
let's head back out to Denver and check out the
Dodger Skipper.

Speaker 3 (15:35):
Any questions for Dave Dave?

Speaker 6 (15:38):
Can you just describe Dave?

Speaker 2 (15:40):
Can you talk about the pressure in the.

Speaker 4 (15:43):
Dugouts with Dave Roberts?

Speaker 9 (15:45):
I think still it's at innings as far as the updowns.
I think tonight is going to be a hard stop
at five innings. Also, we're at altitude and just want
to make sure his body responds the right way after.

Speaker 8 (16:00):
Are you keeping an eye on something specific when it
comes to him, just seeing whether it's how the ball plays.
I know the spin looks a little different here, but
do you have to keep a sharper eye on something
in specific with him?

Speaker 9 (16:10):
Probably not any different than we would any other pitcher. Yeah,
the ball acts a little differently, the fastball, the spin,
But yeah, I'm not too concerned about it, and especially
knowing he's going to be down tomorrow too.

Speaker 5 (16:26):
When you look at where you guys were rotation wise
when Shoh started pitching kind of a mess and now
you Snail's back pitching really well, Clayton's find a group.

Speaker 2 (16:35):
I'm a motive still there.

Speaker 1 (16:38):
If you were looking enough to make the playoffs.

Speaker 3 (16:39):
Just gives you a ton of options, it does.

Speaker 9 (16:42):
It does things that have certainly stabilized on the pitching
side of things, on the starting pitching side of things,
that certainly gives us options. As you said, and like
I said a couple of weeks ago, I think we're
going to go as far as our starting pitching takes
this and so to have guys kind of in line

(17:02):
throwing the baseball, well, feel good about it.

Speaker 5 (17:07):
One of those options. Your pitching coach mentioned on Damn
Patrick today that you have discussed using show Hay out
of the.

Speaker 2 (17:15):
Bullpen in the postseason.

Speaker 9 (17:18):
What are those discussions been, like, Well, I think those
are certainly, you know, internally, just kind of exploring options.
You know, obviously with the rules and uh, the only
thing that makes sense is if you were to finish
the game. I think it's just all kind of contingent

(17:38):
on you know, how we are, where we're at with
the starting pitching, where he's at, because it's still a
different role right as far as usage versus once a week,
So there's still a lot of things that we got
to get to before we even really before it even
becomes somewhat tangible.

Speaker 1 (17:56):
All right, there's a manager, Dave Roberts interesting been talked
about a lot here on Wrongo Casino Dodgers on Deck.

Speaker 2 (18:02):
David Mass has been all over it as well.

Speaker 1 (18:04):
The possibility of showing Otani closer coming out of the
bullpen in the postseason, well, the eyebrow is starting to
be raised a little bit with that possibility coming up
in October. We shall see when we continue here on
Dodgers on Deck. Speaking of Davidsday, we talked with DV
next as we're leading up to first pitch Dodgers and
Rockies from Denver. I'm Tim Kasey's World champion Los Angeles

(18:25):
Dodgers Audio Network.

Speaker 4 (18:28):
As we were saying, this is Marongo Casino, Dodgers on
Deck on the official home of LA Dodgers Baseball.

Speaker 2 (18:38):
Dodgers and Rocky Show.

Speaker 1 (18:40):
Hey Otani on the mount first pitch from Denver, coming
up at five.

Speaker 4 (18:44):
Forty, joining Tim Kates on Dodgers on Deck.

Speaker 3 (18:48):
I accept everybody for who they are.

Speaker 4 (18:50):
This is Dodger inside there. David Basse, all right, DV.

Speaker 1 (18:55):
Just kind of piggybacking the Dave Roberts pregame scrum there
when he was asked about the comments made from Mark
Pryor on the Dan Patrick Show earlier today about maybe
show Heotani coming out of the bullpen in the postseason.
This is something that's been talked about on the pre
and postgame show right here in the Dodgers Audio Network
for weeks.

Speaker 3 (19:14):
Yeah, that's right, Tim.

Speaker 10 (19:15):
It's not inconceivable and not something that we haven't seen
Otani do before on a world stage with Team Japan
in the World Baseball Classic. We see that highlight over
and over again of him being the last man standing
of the last time there was a World Baseball Classic
striking out at the time his teammate might trout with

(19:36):
the Angels. So I have said this before many times
on Dodger Talk. I can envision a scenario where sho
Heotani comes in in a series clinching win to close
out maybe not just the last three outs, but maybe
the last six outs, to give the Dodgers an opportunity
to move on to the next round. I don't see

(19:58):
him doing it in Game one of any series, and
that's part of the reason why I've talked about if
I were to make my Dodger playoff rotation, it would
be o'tani and Kershaw pitching in Game one, so O'tani
would be able to come back later in any series.

Speaker 3 (20:15):
To pitch out of the bullpen.

Speaker 1 (20:17):
David is brought to you by the twenty twenty five
Ford f one to fifty from California's best selling truck brand.

Speaker 2 (20:21):
It's time to see Ford in a new light.

Speaker 1 (20:23):
Ford for America from America, Alex Call a triple away
from the cycle last night, DV.

Speaker 2 (20:29):
Is this guy a difference maker for the Dodgers.

Speaker 10 (20:32):
Well, I mean, it feels like he's gonna be a
big time weapon for Dave Roberts against left handed pitching.
Keythk Hernandez is already that Tommy Edmond is really good
against left handed pitching hitting from the right side than
he is hitting from the left side. So yeah, he's
a really good role player. And I know already Jerry

(20:52):
Harriston Junior's upset. Fans are upset that Alex Call is
not in the starting lineup tonight, and I can understand
their front. It's not like they're going up against Oral
Herscheizer tonight or even Walker Bueller. They're going up against
a guy that has an eight ELRA from the right side.
So let the good times keep rolling for Alex call

(21:14):
but that's not his role on this team. He's on
the team to face left handed pitching.

Speaker 2 (21:19):
We had the injury port just a few minutes ago.

Speaker 1 (21:21):
Dv any of these injured relievers close to returning to
the Dodgers lineup.

Speaker 10 (21:27):
Well, I could tell you what Kirbyates told me before
the Dodgers left for the road trip.

Speaker 3 (21:32):
And he left for Oklahoma City.

Speaker 10 (21:35):
He feels healthy, but he just feels like he needs
to knock off the rust before he comes back. He
doesn't want to have to work through that in critical
parts of a game coming out of the bullpens. So
both Tanner, Scott and Kirbyates are healthy. They just need
to get to a point where they feel good about
coming back and pitching in critical, high leverage innings.

Speaker 1 (21:56):
Great stuff. D be able to check back in with
you in just a couple of minutes. He's going to
go one on one one with Alex Wood, former Dodger
not retired. Wow, Alex would retire. We'll hear from him
coming up in just a little bit. As we continue
to lead you up to first pitch on this Wednesday night.
Up next your Dodgers Magical Moment. It's the Dodgers and
the Rockies. I'm Tim Kasy's the world champion Los Angeles

(22:18):
Dodgers Audio Network.

Speaker 4 (22:25):
This is Morongo Casino Dodgers hunting on your home for
La Dodgers Baseball.

Speaker 1 (22:34):
It's the Dodgers and the Rockies from Denver show Heosani
Tender Cordon.

Speaker 2 (22:38):
The pitching matchup.

Speaker 1 (22:40):
First pitch from the Mile High City is coming up
at five forty.

Speaker 3 (22:49):
Who wants.

Speaker 4 (22:51):
It's time for the Hawfe Magical Moment. Bitch Magical presented
by Hawby Hot Dogs. Oh, the Dodgers and the Mile
Highest City. We go back to the Great Year of
nineteen ninety six. September seventeenth to be exact. The Dodgers
at coors Field taken on the Rockies. There was a
rain delay before twenty six year old Haddo Nomo stepped

(23:14):
on the mound and had a no hit nine.

Speaker 3 (23:20):
Done it.

Speaker 4 (23:23):
The Deo Noma has done what they said could not
be done, not in the.

Speaker 7 (23:29):
Model High City, not at coors Field in Denver.

Speaker 3 (23:33):
He if not only shut out the Rockies. He has
pitched him no hitter, and thank goodness they saw in Japan.

Speaker 2 (23:43):
The great Vin Scully on the call.

Speaker 1 (23:46):
September seventeenth, nineteen ninety six, a Dao Nomo throws a
no hitter at Coors Field against the Rockies. This Hafe
magical moment brought you by Hofey Hot Talks offfee soak
out local treasure for nearly one hundred years Hoffey Hot
Dogs Local and so great.

Speaker 2 (24:03):
Will we continue here on Dodgers on Tech.

Speaker 1 (24:05):
We'll check back you Rick Monday and David Vassy as
we lead you up the first pitch Dodgers in Denver.

Speaker 2 (24:10):
I'm Tim Kats.

Speaker 1 (24:10):
It's the world champion Los Angeles Dodgers Audio Network.

Speaker 4 (24:16):
This is Marongo Casino, Dodgers on Tech on your home
for the blue all season.

Speaker 1 (24:24):
Low Dodgers in Denver as they get ready to take
on the Rocky Show.

Speaker 2 (24:29):
Hey O, Tony on the Mountain.

Speaker 1 (24:31):
Time now for the brideson startup, as we are a
little bit more than thirty five minutes away from the
start of the game. Now at Verizon you can lock
in your low price for three years so you can
save big. Visit the Verizon store today and now.

Speaker 4 (24:45):
Joined by David Basse. Here's La Dodgers broadcaster and World
Series champion Dodger Rick Monday.

Speaker 10 (24:53):
Rick Monday, this is game three of a four game
series at Corusfield.

Speaker 3 (24:58):
Is that a little too long?

Speaker 4 (25:00):
No?

Speaker 5 (25:01):
No, not if they play like they did last night.
Eleven runs, eighteen hits. The Dodgers drunk out only two
times in that ballgame for him machine it went six
innings and then three relievers behind him. So no, it's
not too long if you're playing well. And that's not
the case with the Rockies, and I've lost ninety games.
I have a question for you, David bet say run

(25:23):
off the bat. Sure do you wish to retract something
that you said yesterday on the pregame show about mister
Carris And we're not talking about Junior. We're also talking
about Senior because I believe you made we're going to
pull the air check, but we decided not to. You
made it. Okay, go right ahead if you'd like to.

Speaker 10 (25:47):
You know, his son is a lot faster than even
Eric in his prime. And I could throw out Eric
Harrows in nineteen ninety two from me to you.

Speaker 5 (25:56):
So you also made the reference that you could outrun him.
I don't know if I said that, well, we may
have to go back to the air check.

Speaker 3 (26:05):
We can say we canay, But if that's what you
want me to say, Rick, I will be that guy
for you.

Speaker 5 (26:09):
Well, okay, Well I did not see Eric on the
bus today because he is in town. He's not working
on the radio of the TV side today for the Dodgers,
but he is here as a parent, a very proud parent.
So he was not on the bus coming to the
ballpark today because I was just going to really basically
inform him that there have been some disparaging words or
least a challenge from mister Bassay, which for those that forget,

(26:34):
you made the challenge years ago to Adrian Gonzalez, and
you even clean it up. I mean you put baseball
fleats on. I believe we were in San Diego and
you were beaten. You were beaten by a very large margin.

Speaker 3 (26:51):
He took liberties on the start time, Rick, What do.

Speaker 5 (26:54):
You mean the start times? What liberty is what he
wanted to do at four o'clock in the afternoon. You
want to do it at midnight where no one could
see you.

Speaker 3 (27:02):
Yeah, it sounds about right.

Speaker 10 (27:03):
And also I was wearing Justin Turner's cleats, so you
know he's not the fleetest of foot either.

Speaker 5 (27:09):
No, you got to take the anchors out of those.
Speaking of a running how about Shoeyo Tani tonight double duty, David.
He's not only the designated hitter. He'll lead things off
and then the bottom of the first he goes to mound,
he's going to pitch.

Speaker 3 (27:22):
How about this?

Speaker 5 (27:24):
Otani is the first player we talked about, so many
different things that he's done. And by the way he's
walking down the left field line, he gets a big
crowd to just a blod Now he's just going to
go down and loosen up his legs. But sho Heyo
Tani the first player to score one hundred and twenty
runs in the team's first one hundred and twenty six games,

(27:44):
the first to do it since Ted Williams did it
in nineteen forty nine. The other part, too, is there's
only been two players who have scored one hundred and
fifty runs in a single season. Williams did it nineteen
forty nine, scored exactly hundred and fifty, the all time
record Jeff Bagwell in two thousand and that was one

(28:05):
hundred and fifty two runs. So we're looking at another
angle for show Heyo Tani, who's making a slow walk
out to the bullpen right now to get loose.

Speaker 3 (28:15):
Rick, You've seen a lot of baseball. You've seen a
lot of great players.

Speaker 10 (28:18):
With all that being said, is it ever lost on
you that you're broadcasting games that show Heyo Tani is
playing for the La.

Speaker 5 (28:26):
Dodgers, David, we're seeing things that we did or never
even thought about seeing in the past. You know, this
is not little league, this is not pony league. This
is major league baseball. And what he is doing is
just absolutely off the charts. Every time you turn around,
there's another record, there's another significant moment that he's doing.

(28:48):
How he does it, I have no idea. I know
how difficult it was just to get ready to play
offense in bat and to play defense and take fly balls. Well,
he's going to another dimension. Oh he's not playing the defense.
But the pitching takes up a great deal of time,
a great deal of energy and insight on how you're
going to approach the other team. I mean, it's one
thing to study what you're going to do as a

(29:09):
hitter against that pitcher, you're going to face and the
rest of the rotation and the bullpen of that team.
But he has to be able to study it on
both sides. From a defensive sign, from an offensive side.
What he does is just absolutely off the charts.

Speaker 10 (29:26):
It certainly is not the norm. And tell Eric Carros
I say hello, and I wish Kyle was a Dodger.

Speaker 5 (29:33):
Yeah, and you might wish you hadn't said anything yesterday,
but it will haunt you. We look forward to it. David,
stay well, talk to you tomorrow morning.

Speaker 3 (29:41):
Rick Monday, always on my side. We'll send it back
to you in the studio.

Speaker 1 (29:44):
Tim, all right, thanks loud DV. That's a Dodger game plan.
Start your future of California and community college.

Speaker 2 (29:51):
That's your plan. Dodger fans.

Speaker 1 (29:52):
Financial aid is available to help a tuition book. Sometimes
he can help with the rent. It's time to take
that next big step. Classes can fill up quickly, so
enroll today and I can go to college dot com.
Still they come here on Dodgers on Deck. We'll get
you a preview of this pitching matchup. Rick'll be back
with Tim Nevert. They're gonna get you the keys to
the game. But up next we go high and ty

(30:12):
with Alex Wood, former Dodger now retired.

Speaker 2 (30:15):
You'll hear from what you next Dodgers Rockies. We're leading
up to first pitch.

Speaker 1 (30:19):
I'm Tim Kas's world champion Los Angeles Dodgers Audio Network.

Speaker 4 (30:25):
As we were saying yes, is Marongo Casino Dodgers on
deck on the official home of La Dodgers Baseball.

Speaker 1 (30:35):
Lean you up to Dodgers and Rockies on this warm
Wednesday evening show. Hey O, Tani, Tanner Gordon the pitching
matchup Game three.

Speaker 2 (30:44):
This four game set.

Speaker 1 (30:45):
Dodgers Baseball's brought to you by Shaky's Pizza Parlor, the
official pizza partner of the Dodgers Audio Broadcast. When it's
game night, it's group night at Shaky's dot Com.

Speaker 4 (30:55):
And now what will likely be vast fielding insults from
a Dodger, It's an engagement of endearment. This is high
and Tuch.

Speaker 1 (31:04):
Well.

Speaker 10 (31:04):
I can't believe this because I knew this guy when
the Dodgers acquired him at the trade deadline in twenty fifteen,
and he had a great Dodger career. He had a
great major league career, twelve seasons in the big leagues,
and he was a winner, a World Series champion, and
his winning percentage in the regular season five point thirty

(31:26):
one as a starting pitcher. One of the fiercest competitors
you will ever see on the mound in this generation.

Speaker 3 (31:34):
And he just announced his retirement.

Speaker 10 (31:36):
That is the one and only Alex Wood, a proud
Georgia Bulldog. But more importantly, after all these years, will
always be a Dodger.

Speaker 3 (31:45):
Alex. Thanks a lot for the time, and man, congratulations
on a great career.

Speaker 6 (31:50):
Oh what an intro that was. H That's the only
reason I came on, just to hear you say great
things about me.

Speaker 3 (31:56):
That's the reason why he decided to retire. He needed
this victory.

Speaker 4 (31:59):
Lap, no doubtly.

Speaker 6 (32:02):
Yeah, I appreciate it.

Speaker 5 (32:02):
Man, Thank you.

Speaker 6 (32:03):
That was kind of you.

Speaker 10 (32:05):
How how did you come to this decision? Because, uh,
I know you love the game so much. How tough
was it to make this decision?

Speaker 4 (32:12):
Yeah?

Speaker 6 (32:13):
I mean I had been thinking thinking about it for
a little and you know, it's things go by so
fast and so slow all at the same time. Twelve
years a long time, and I just you know, I
was someone that always felt like I gave every ounswer myself,
every day for as long as I can remember, and
just kind of got to the point where I felt
it just felt like I was I was ready for
kind of the next thing, you know. And so I

(32:35):
had shoulder surgery last July, and I tried to rehab
and kind of make come back and just was taken
a little bit longer than I than I was hoping.
Kind of got into a you know, as far as
timing goes, kind of got into a spot where I
needed to make a decision on what I wanted to
do and just decided, you know, I think that it
was time. So kind of been in a honeymoon phase
so to speak, since I made my decision a couple months,

(32:56):
two or three months ago, and it's been enjoying being
home and playing playing a lot of golf and hanging
out with the family.

Speaker 3 (33:02):
That sounds like a good life.

Speaker 10 (33:03):
You deserve it because you gave everything to the game
of baseball. And when you made that post on your Instagram,
there were a lot of great photos, a lot of
great memories. What was it like to go through those
photos and what were the memories that flashed the most
in your mind's eye?

Speaker 6 (33:21):
Oh? Man, Yeah, tough. I think that you know, all
the decisions I make in my life, you know, I
try to you know, be completely okay with the outcomes,
and so you know, initially, you know, making up my
mind side of it, it was time I was ready
to retire.

Speaker 4 (33:35):
You know, I felt good about it.

Speaker 6 (33:37):
And then you know, you have helped making this video
kind of like briefly highlighting just even just a fraction
of all the memories that we made over you know,
over the last decade plus. It's hard hard to choose
one for sure. I mean, I mean, my my favorite,
probably personally is Game four of the World Series was

(33:58):
probably in seventeen was probably it's probably like an all
time moment for me personally. So, but just looking back
on all of it and seeing you know, how it started,
and all the different teams and places that we got
to play, and just kind of looking at the you know,
all the sum of all the parts, you know, it
was just you know, pretty cool, pretty cool.

Speaker 8 (34:18):
For sure.

Speaker 10 (34:19):
You had so many great years, but twenty seventeen does
stand out. It was your lone All Star season. You
were sixteen and three that year. Your era was incredible
to seventy two, and like you said, you were the
only starting pitcher to be able to defeat those cheating
Astros on their home turf. When you look back at
that one year, is it clearly defined as your best

(34:42):
season in the big leagues?

Speaker 9 (34:44):
Uh?

Speaker 6 (34:45):
Yeah, I mean fourteen was really good for me, and
then seventeen fourteen or seventeen was probably my favorite year.
Seventeen just because we were so freaking good. That was
just you know, obviously the Dodgers while I was there,
and to this point, I've had a lot of a
lot of great teams, and they won another title after
we won it in twenty twenty, but I still maintain

(35:05):
it the twenty seventeen team was, you know, in my
whole career across the league, I think it was one
of the more special teams. Talent and the quality of
people top to bottom. It was just that was just
a really special year and a special team. And so
that year definitely has a has a pretty pretty big
place in my heart for sure.

Speaker 3 (35:26):
Yeah.

Speaker 10 (35:26):
Yeah, I know There's been a lot of good Dodger
teams I've covered over the years, Alex, but that group
of guys that you started with in twenty fifteen and
you know, you came back to in twenty twenty special
group of guys that I'll always cherish that you guys
let me in and saw a little peak of what
the magic sauce was because you guys were special people

(35:49):
and those were great years.

Speaker 3 (35:51):
I'll always cherish those days.

Speaker 6 (35:54):
Yeah, for sure. There was definitely always kind of kind
of viewed it as, you know, kind of the start
of where they are now and of the you know,
the foundational years of you know, building the Dodgers into
what they you know, what they what they are now,
you know. Yeah, just some special teams and some special times,
for sure.

Speaker 3 (36:14):
Congratulations on a great career, Alex.

Speaker 10 (36:16):
Would I hope to see you in Los Angeles or
in Atlanta sometime soon, or maybe Las Vegas. We'll have
a twenty seventeen Dodgers reunion in Vegas.

Speaker 3 (36:25):
How about that?

Speaker 6 (36:27):
That sounds good to me.

Speaker 3 (36:28):
I'm in Okay, sounds good. Hey, congratulations Alex. Great to
hear your voice.

Speaker 10 (36:33):
Great to share you with Dodger fans who obviously saw
what we all saw, how you left it all out
on the mound, and that's why you will always be
remembered in LA not only as a world champion, but
as a world champion competitor, and we look forward to
seeing you soon.

Speaker 3 (36:49):
We'll send it back to you in the studio.

Speaker 2 (36:50):
Tim, all right, thanks a lot of DV.

Speaker 1 (36:52):
Great to hear from Alex Wood, one of the good
guys in baseball, calling it quits and retiring lead. You
have to first pitch in Denver. We'll break down this
pitching matt jump next.

Tanner Gordon on the mound for the Rockies three and
five with a seven eighty nine Era twenty seven year
old right hander out of Indiana. He was the sixth
round pick of the Braves back in twenty nineteen. Traded
at the Rockies in twenty three. Made his major league
debut last year. Started this season in Triple A, making
his ninth start at the big league level. Fastball slider
change up last time out, five innings, three runs, five hits,

(37:58):
two strikeouts in a win over the the Diamondbacks. This
is his first time facing the Dodgers at the big
league level. Show hey O Tani on the mound for
the Blue no wins, no losses. Three forty seven ERA
thirty one year old right hander making his tenth start
this year. He has thirty two strikeouts just five walks
in twenty three and a third innings pitch this year,
holding opponents to a two thirty six batting average. Last

(38:21):
time out last Wednesday at the Big A and Anaheim
pitched into the fifth inning, four and a third, four runs,
five hits, seven strikeouts, and a no decision against the Angels.
He has made one career start against the Colorado Rockies
and he won that game. He allowed just one run
in seven innings of work when he was with the
Angels back in twenty twenty one, that game at the
Big A Tonight his first time ever pitching at Course

Before that, though, let's head back out of the booth
one final time before first pitch.

Speaker 2 (39:22):
Tim Neverrick Monday, Guys.

Speaker 7 (39:24):
Tim, thanks again getting it ready for this one show,
Hey Otani expected to go five innings and talking with
Dave Roberts a little while ago, he thinks it's going
to be more of an innings count than a pitch count.
Right now, Otani's up to eighty pitches as a season high,
but they're looking at five innings as a as a
hard out tonight.

Speaker 5 (39:43):
If he can get through, yeah, that'd be a good news.
Has the Booth been had a restpite, so to speak,
in last night's game. But for O Tony, you start
to look at it. He's worked just over twenty three innings,
twenty one base hits. He's walked only five. The other
thing that I found out today just looking at some numbers,
he's already induced six ground bow double plays. So when
he has been in the trouble, he's found a way
to get out of it in a hurry.

Speaker 7 (40:05):
O Tani with a seven pitch mix fastball, sweeper, slider, sinker, splitter,
cutter in a curveball, and he'll mix them in quite
a bit, mostly the fastball sweeper slider combination. He'll mix
the split in as well. Tanner Gordon, he's had a
little trouble in terms of giving up runs. Is he
already is seven to ninety eight with runners in scoring position,

(40:26):
the average against him three sixty and right handed batters
this year hitting four twenty three against.

Speaker 5 (40:32):
Him, well, it'll be short and sweet. In August, he's
made three starts, He's one and two. He's earned her
an average fourteen point five to nine. His batting average
against this month four thirty eight.

Speaker 7 (40:44):
Dodgers have won seven out of eight against the Rockies
this year, looking to be eight of nine when this
one's over tonight.

Speaker 2 (40:49):
Tim all right, thank you guys.

Speaker 1 (40:50):
