Speaker 2 (00:41):
Tim Kashi, everybody, and good afternoon, Happy Sunday. Welcome to
Morongo Casino, Dodgers on Deck. You're a world champion Los
Angeles Dodgers currently seventy three and fifty seven on this season.
Don't look now, but the Dodgers looking up at the
San Diego Padres and the Division. Dodgers one game back
second place in the NL West. After dropping the first

(01:03):
two games of this head to head series of Petco Park. Today,
the Dodgers look to leave San Diego at least.

Speaker 4 (01:10):
Tie atop the division.

Speaker 2 (01:11):
They need a win to avoid getting swept by the
San Diego Padres, and they give the ball to Yoshinobu
Yamamoto on the mound, first pitch from Petco Park coming up.

Speaker 4 (01:21):
At one ten. Between then and now, we've got a.

Speaker 2 (01:23):
Lot to get to here on Maronggo Casino, Dodgers on deck.
Because these are serious times for the Dodgers. Is this
offense needs to turn things around fast? We're gonna hear
from the manager. Dave Roberts will dive deeper into this
pitching matchup.

Speaker 4 (01:35):
David Vasse joins us throughout the hour.

Speaker 2 (01:37):
He'll go one on one with one of the only
guys that's produced this weekend, in fact, the only guy
who has produced this weekend, Alex Freeland, who's hits home
runs and back to back games.

Speaker 4 (01:46):
DV goes one on one with him.

Speaker 2 (01:48):
Coming up in forty five minutes, we got your Dodgers'
Magical Moment, the latest on the Dodgers' injury news, and
in just a few minutes, we'll head out to Steven
Nelson and Rick Monday in the Gallpin Up Motors Broadcast booth. Well,
last night it was Tyler Glass. Now and Nestor Cortes
on the mound. Yeah, that same Nestor Cortes who gave
up the walk off Grand Slam to Freddie Freeman a
year ago in the World Series.

Speaker 4 (02:09):
Well, yesterday he looked like a.

Speaker 2 (02:11):
Different Nestor Cortes. Six shutout innings. He allowed just one
hit to Miguel Rojas in the six he retired the
first sixteen batters that he faced. The Dodgers couldn't figure
him out. Meanwhile, Tyler Glass now went four innings struggled
as his out. He went along a twenty seven pitch
third inning, and then the fourth things really unraveled. The
leadoff walk, a base hit, he walked, the bases loaded.

(02:33):
Two batters later, Ramon Lariano a two run single, than
Jake croniwerth the sack fly. The Padres Manufacturing runs again,
up three to nothing, and they chased Tyler Glass now
after four innings. Meanwhile, the Dodgers offense just the one
hit off of Nestor Cordes. He turned it over to
the bullpen. Finally, in the eighth, Alex Friedland got the
Dodgers on the board.

Speaker 8 (02:54):
Another three to two pitch. Freeland hits it in the
ear to right field of deep top teas back.

Speaker 3 (02:59):
He's at the wall.

Speaker 9 (03:00):
It is done.

Speaker 6 (03:02):
Alex Freeland, stay hot. He has gone deep in back
to back games. And the Dodgers have a life in
the eighth. It's now three to one.

Speaker 2 (03:13):
Well, they were on life support, barely a pulse, and
that pulse would turn to a flat line in the
bottom half of the eighth inning. Justin Robleski on for
his third inning of work. He was really good. One two, three, six,
one two three seventh in the eighth, though that dreaded
leadoff walk. It always comes back to bite you later
in the eighth, runners on for sandre bowguards the pitch.

Speaker 8 (03:33):
Boguart's down the right field line. It's down, it's fair,
It's to the corner, and two runs will score. Tatsisas
both raise arms to the ski as he crosses home plate,
so too does Machado. It's a two run double for
Sandra Bogarts with two outs in the eighth, and the
Dodgers now trail five to one.

Speaker 2 (03:52):
Five to one might as well been fifteen to one.
The Dodgers offense just couldn't get anything going last night
against Nestra Cortes or again the Padres bullpen. Padres win
it five to one. Cortes the win, Tyler Glass now
the loss, the Dodgers fall to seventy three and fifty seven.

Speaker 4 (04:09):
The Padres win their fifth in a row. They're now seventy.

Speaker 2 (04:12):
Four and fifty six and with the win, the Padres
now one game up in the NL West as they
go into their final head to head meeting of the
regular season. Yoshinobu Yamamoto and Nick Pavetta the pitching matchup
and with more. Let's head out to the Gallpin Motors
broadcast booth as we say good afternoon to Steven Nelson
and Rick Monday.

Speaker 8 (04:32):
Guys, Tim Kates, it is Sunday in San Diego, a
getaway day for the Dodgers. It's back home to Dodgers
Stadium after this game, and they can't get home soon enough.
But Rick Monday, the question is will they be coming
home with at least one win in San Diego. They
need a w today to avoid a sweep and pull
back into a tie with the Padres atop the division.

(04:54):
Needless to say, we've been talking about it through the
first two games. It has been a massive disappointment for
the Dodgers. The first two game the series where the
offense has mustered a combined combined two runs on five hits.

Speaker 10 (05:06):
Yeah, they've not done much with an offensive standpoint. And
I think that if we go back to what Dave
Roberts was telling her on David Bath Say last night
of the postgame interviews, he said, look, we need more
team at bats. Migauel Rojas also chipped in and said
this and then the other thing that the manager says
to Look, we need a better level of trying. And

(05:26):
Roberts said, look, this is not the time to be
trying to find the swing path. This is not the
time to be trying to find the swing itself to
make contact. This is August twenty fourth, is coming up
right now, and this is a two game swing. If
you look at the club that's either directly behind you
or in front of you, in this instance, the Padres
are in front of the Dodgers. They either lead Town

(05:47):
two games behind San Diego second place in the West,
or tied for the lead for the National League West.

Speaker 3 (05:54):
And this has been an ongoing thing.

Speaker 8 (05:55):
The Dodgers are tied for the fifth worst record in
all a Major League based since July fourth, They have
lost twenty five or forty two games and far too often.
Mo Again, we had this conversation last night. Does the
team look listless? Do they look without fire? They certainly
aren't having fun, And I get it, it's a lot
easier to have fun when you're winning ball games. But

(06:16):
to underscore the point that you brought up, Dave Roberts
making forget the mechanics and you're struggling compete, shorten up
your swing.

Speaker 3 (06:23):
Yeah, you've got to do something.

Speaker 10 (06:25):
And then that's one of the things that he was
talking about as well, This is you know, you get
a runner on, which is a nice pledge to begin with,
because the Dodgers have not been doing that right. But
if you get them on, start taking about team at
bats instead of individual at bats, because, as you stated,
you know since that nine game lead, yeah, it's a
bad record. Since they all start break, they've gone fifteen
and eighteen. Well, the Pandres have gone twenty two and twelve.

(06:48):
And then if you look at the top five guys
in this lineup in the first two games of the series,
one of them's not in the lineup today. That's Will Smith.
But if we look at Shoheyo Tani Miokie Bets, Freddie Freeman,
Will Smith, and Tiascar Hernandez. In this series, just the
two games, they're combined two for thirty six with ten
strikeouts in that period of time. That's not going to

(07:09):
get the job done. That's fifty six average. If you're
two for thirty six, oh fifty six average.

Speaker 8 (07:16):
And look, the simple fact for this team MO is
the same today as it has been throughout this twenty
twenty five season. They will go as their big dogs go.
And I understand they are missing their glue guy and
Max Munsey. I understand they're without Tommy Edman. I understand
keyk Hernandez and Hessng Kim are also hurt. This is

(07:37):
not just about Alex frielan versus Buddy Kennedy.

Speaker 3 (07:41):
No, it's about the big dogs.

Speaker 8 (07:43):
And there's more than enough firepower even without the injured
guys that we mentioned for them to get the job done.

Speaker 3 (07:49):
And right now those big guys are not getting the job.

Speaker 10 (07:51):
And we continue to say is that you cannot keep
marching in place and waiting for those extra players that
you rely upon year in and year out to return.
They'll be back. When they're back, it may be soon.
In the interim, the Dodgers have let a lot of
sand fall right between their fingers.

Speaker 8 (08:07):
It is a beautiful day above Petco Park, not a
cloud in the sky, temperatures in the eighties, and the
Dodgers have had the heat turned up on them throughout
this summer. They are now chasing the Padres in the division.
They need a win today to avoid a sweep and
get back into first place atop the nationalau West Yamamoto
against the Padres Ace Nick Poveda. We'll talk about that
pitching matchup and a couple keys when we visit with

(08:28):
you again.

Speaker 3 (08:28):
Tim.

Speaker 4 (08:29):
All right, thanks a lot nellie, So we cat you
down to first pitch.

Speaker 2 (08:31):
Dodger fans get that lunch game day meal on A's
Shaky's Pizza Parlor. How about ordering Shaky's pizza Chicken of Mojo.
Sounds pretty good, Ma, We'll do it right now at
Shaky's dot Com.

Speaker 4 (08:41):
Coming up here on Wrongco Casino. Dodgers on deck. Well
here for the manager, Dave Roberts.

Speaker 2 (08:45):
We'll check out with David Vez a dv egos one
on one with Alex Freeland, the only guy who's produced
offensively this weekend. We'll dive deep out of this pitching
matchup up next, you're tany Rewind and we'll hear from
Miguel Rojas. That's all coming up as we lead you
up to Dodgers and Padres on this Sunday.

Speaker 4 (08:58):
First pitch of one ten, Thanks for one this.

Speaker 2 (09:00):
I'm Tim kays Is the world champion Los Angeles Dodgers
Audio Network.

Speaker 7 (09:05):
This is Morongo Casino Dodgers Hunting game on your home
for La Dodgers Baseball.

Speaker 2 (09:13):
It's the Dodgers and the Padres. Yoshinobu Yamamono, Nick Paveta.
The pitching matchup. First pitch coming up and one tend.

Speaker 5 (09:20):
This is the Otani Rewide.

Speaker 2 (09:23):
Well nothing for showy Otani. Last night, the Dodgers only
had two hits in the game. Miguil Rojas will had
one of them. Alex Freeland had the home run as
the Dodgers loss of the Padres five to one. Speaking
and Miguel Rojas after the game last night, and Miguel
Rojas very vocal about the Dodgers offensive struggles.

Speaker 1 (09:39):
Miguel, what was Nesta Cortez doing so well? You were
the only one to have a hit tonight against him.

Speaker 11 (09:45):
I just feel like we uh had an approach against him.
He was able to keep the one away from Ridy,
so we got a lot of rities out there.

Speaker 1 (09:54):
He was thought.

Speaker 11 (09:55):
He also a different way that he was pitching a
the last couple last starts. I feel like that approach
was kind of like getting a little closer and uh
trying to be aggressive to his passible. But he was
he was He was good throwing the quarter in the
outside part of the play and kind of.

Speaker 1 (10:12):
Keep us keep us off balanced.

Speaker 11 (10:14):
I felt like a lot of swings that we took
today was in uh, really good swings to kind of
like get on base.

Speaker 1 (10:21):
He was a little bit more to.

Speaker 11 (10:23):
To do damage early in the town and he was
able to capitalize on that and couple bosa he heard
riot people and uh this this night for sure are
frustrating for the offense because we know we were more
than capable of putting better at bats and more hits together,
you know, to create some traffic and and being able

(10:43):
to give us a chance to win the game. But
I mean, he wasn't a good night for us with that.

Speaker 12 (10:48):
Yesterday with Darbage, we approached you guys differently than you
guys originally anticipated in how difficulose it to make that
kind of adjustment and all the game.

Speaker 11 (10:55):
Yeah, with Arvis, you always expected, Uh he's a he's
a guy who prepares really well and uh he follows
Uh he follows the protocols sometimes and sometimes he goes
away from it. He got so many weapons that he
can go to. You know, he got three different sliders
and a couple of things that he can do different.
We had a really good game against him a home

(11:15):
and he prepared for us a little bit different. And
we got to be better making adjustments in game. We
can really let these uh, these games that are going
away from ust just getting one hit.

Speaker 1 (11:27):
I know it's hard.

Speaker 11 (11:28):
I know hitting is hard, the hardest thing to do.
But I feel like we we need to continue to
get better if we want to get to where we
want to be, which is uh winning the division and
winning the worst here. So we gotta as an offense,
I think we start. We got to start making a
little bit better adjustments in game.

Speaker 13 (11:45):
It's like one of those adjustments like you guys weren't
able to make tonight, Like you were talking about just
maybe trying to do too much damage. Having two biggest
swings and not being able to adjust when he's pitching
you guys away, and just not being able to kind
of string together heads.

Speaker 11 (11:58):
I feel like that's that's a there's a real and
why you know, I'm not gonna talk to UH for
for all of my teammates. You know, like we're having
nine guys out there trying to trying to put good
bass together, and we all know the talent is there,
and sometimes it's it's hard to gotta to kind of
go out there and and and trying to trying to
change who you are. You know, like we are who
we are. We got a lot of guys that can

(12:19):
leave the wall part and that can hit homers. But
we all know too that we can play better baseball
than the great that we've been playing.

Speaker 1 (12:25):
The last couple of days.

Speaker 11 (12:25):
I feel like the offense is kind of inconsistent at times.
I feel like we can we can always get better,
and and we all know we need to get better
if we if we want to win games in a
in a consistent way. And I feel like, like you say,
we have to make an adjustment in game that UH
that is gonna put us in the best position to
uh to kick starters out of the game, not just

(12:46):
because uh, the older manager wants to was to take
him out of there. We need to force him out
of the game and we need to start doing a
better job with that.

Speaker 2 (12:54):
All Right, there's Miguel Rojas, very candid, very honest about
the Dodgers approach this weekend. Brought to you by Cars Kids.

on Deck will dive deeper in this pitching matchup David Vasagos.

Speaker 4 (13:13):
One on one with Alex Freeland.

Speaker 2 (13:15):
But up next we'll get you an injury report and
we'll here for the manager himself. Dave Roberts his pregame thoughts.
It's the Dodgers and Padres first pitch and Petco Park
coming up at one ten. I'm Tim Kason's world champion
Los Angeles Dodgers Audio Network.

Speaker 7 (13:29):
This is Marongo Casino Dodgers on dech.

Speaker 5 (13:35):
On, your home for the blue all season long.

Speaker 2 (13:38):
Brago Casino Dodgers on Deck continues on this Sunday as
we lead you out to first pitch, Dodgers and Padres
Morongo Casino Resort and spying rand slam for good times.
Y O Chinobu Yamamoto on the mound first pitch at
one ten.

Speaker 7 (13:52):
It's the LA Dodgers injury report.

Speaker 2 (13:55):
Here's into my UCLA healthy official medical partner of the
Los Angeles Dodgers. Max Munsey gets close to coming off
the il. More on that with David Vase coming up.
Also more on Key k Hernandez, who could be back
sooner than you think. Brock Stewart working his way back.
Herbie Yates has already been back. Tanner Scott activated this weekend.
So the Dodgers trending in the right direction pitching wise,
hoping Rookie Sasaki and Michael Kopek are not too far behind,

(14:19):
all right, So let's head back out to San Diego
and get the Sunday morning pregame thoughts of the Dodgers Skipper.

Speaker 1 (14:25):
A questions for Dave Dave?

Speaker 5 (14:28):
Can you just describe Dave?

Speaker 1 (14:30):
Can you talk about the pressure in.

Speaker 5 (14:32):
The dugouts with Dave Roberts?

Speaker 1 (14:36):
So last night the tenor was between you and your
players to have more team att batts and try to
put aside trying to find your swing, do you expect
to see those results today? I do. I do. You know,
it's one of those things where.

Speaker 14 (14:51):
When when players are mired and playing, that's part of
what happens. But I do think kind of, you know,
talking amongst the guy and just getting back to you know,
competing and playing to win a ball game and taking
good at bats, that'll kind of lend itself to the performance.

Speaker 1 (15:09):
And so.

Speaker 14 (15:11):
I feel good about where our guys are at today
going forward.

Speaker 15 (15:15):
Do you think, like, obviously, when you guys' lineup is
right and slug the ball and you can kind of
bludgeon teams, but you also, like you guys have talked
about like where the rotations at, like where the bullpen
is at, Like do you almost need to take on
like more of an identity of like, look, we're gonna pitch, well,
we just need to make sure that we're kind of
producing that consistent offense a little more instead of.

Speaker 3 (15:35):
Maybe chasing like some of the like the.

Speaker 12 (15:37):
Bigger offensive production you could put out.

Speaker 15 (15:39):
If that makes sense as you kind of look at
the stretch run.

Speaker 14 (15:41):
I think it's it's a fair question, but I couldn't
disagree more in the sense of what my belief is
in this offensive team. So certainly in the last two
months we haven't performed close to expectations, right, I feel
that we have the ability, the talent as it is,

(16:06):
to grind pitchers, to take some pressure off the starter
the pen, and so I want my cake and eat
it as well.

Speaker 1 (16:17):
Do you feel like.

Speaker 12 (16:17):
It's evaluating obviously, like you know, the talent in the room.
And so the track record bultlet this is two e
seven months, so thinks elements.

Speaker 14 (16:25):
Yeah, and I think that it is. It is, and
and baseball hitting, you know, goes in cycles, and I
just we haven't really kind of been in sync. It's
been it's been really disjointed a lot as far as
the offense for the entire part of the year. So
you know, playing well at the right time is crucial

(16:47):
and that speaks to the offense as well. And so
I do think that you know, there's well we're gonna
kind of get things together and piece together. And I've
said it for a while, I think our best offense
baseball is still ahead of us, and so it's gonna happen.

Speaker 4 (17:05):
Yeah, it's gonna happen, you know what.

Speaker 2 (17:07):
And the stretch run is a perfect time for that
offense to get going into October.

Speaker 4 (17:12):
That's the manager Dave Roberts.

Speaker 2 (17:13):
When we continue here on Morongo Casino Dodgers on Deck,
we will check in with David Vase with all the
latest as we lead you up to first pitch. Really,
it must win game for the Dodgers to avoid getting
two games back in the division and avoid the sweep
in San Diego. First pitch, Dodgers and Padres at won ten.
I'm Tim Kates's world champion Los Angeles Dodgers Audio Network.

Speaker 7 (17:37):
As we were saying, this is Marongo Casino Dodgers on
deck on the official home of LA Dodgers Baseball.

Speaker 2 (17:48):
It's Dodgers and Padres on this Sunday afternoon.

Speaker 4 (17:51):
Yoshinobu Yamamoto and Nick Paveta.

Speaker 2 (17:53):
The pitching matchup Dodgers one game back in the division,
will win today would put him in a tie atop
the NL West.

Speaker 4 (18:00):
First pitch coming up at one ten.

Speaker 7 (18:04):
Joining Tim Kits on Dodgers on Deck.

Speaker 1 (18:06):
I accept everybody for who they are.

Speaker 7 (18:08):
This is Dodger insider David Bassi.

Speaker 2 (18:12):
Hey, David now joins us from Petco Park today. David
and Key k Hernandez his birthday. But when are we
get to see number eight back on a Dodger uniform.

Speaker 1 (18:22):
Well, you can see you can expect to see him
as soon as tomorrow. He's done everything to check the
boxes at Oklahoma City. Dave Roberts indicated he will return
during the Red Series, and I'm getting indications it's going
to be as soon as tomorrow because the Dodgers need him.
They need to get him back on this roster, whether

(18:42):
it's coming off the bench or making spots starts, and
they need his leadership, as crazy as that sounds. And
you know, sometimes Kei k being Keik you don't expect
him to be that type of guy, but he really
has become a big voice in that Dodger clubhouse and
holding other players and holding himself accountable. So him being

(19:03):
on the injured list doesn't lend itself to him being
that vocal. But with him back, the Dodgers need him
and it looks like he'll be back tomorrow. And also, Tim,
I haven't had a chance to mention this on Sports
net LA, but I'll let you know that Max Mounsey
is closer than what people realize. Dave Roberts told me

(19:25):
two days ago that Max Munsey should be returning in
ten days. He is a huge part to this Dodger offense.
I actually got a text from Munsey when I asked
him that and said, hey, is this an accurate timetable.
He did not want to put a timetable on it because,
as you know, and Rick Monday has mentioned this as well,

(19:46):
you can be just one swing away from reaggravating an
oblique injury. So that's the reason why Munsey doesn't want
to box himself in. But if things continue to go
the right way, Max Munsey could be back at the
beginning up September.

Speaker 2 (20:00):
That is certainly great news. He is a big part
of this Dodgers' offense. David is brought to by the
twenty twenty five to one to fifty from California's best
selling truck brand.

Speaker 4 (20:08):
It's time to see Ford in a new light.

Speaker 2 (20:09):
Ford for America from America, David, this Dodgers offense is
struggling top to bottom. Show hey Otani to even Will Smith,
who is really cooled off.

Speaker 1 (20:20):
Yeah, and if you look at this Dodger offense, a
third of their last forty games, they're averaging just about
four runs and not doing really well here on this
road trip where it's boom or bust, and so far
it's been busted in San Diego. And that's part of
the reason why after the game last night, Miguel Rojas,

(20:41):
Will Smith and Dave Roberts all talked about more team
at bats from top to bottom. You can't just be
worried about your swing, your numbers. You got to be
worried about the team. It's that time of year and
it doesn't just flip itself on when the calendar and
the postseason begins. You got to start playing that way
now to be prepared for October baseball. And we'll see

(21:04):
whether or not those words translates to actions, because we
haven't seen that. And going back to Miguel Rojas being
with us on a special weekend morning a couple of
weeks ago, he was saying that then, too, guys have
been looking for their swing. Well, you know, it's about
time now to settle in and give the team the
competitive at bats that they need. And the Dodgers' identity

(21:28):
is all that David is.

Speaker 2 (21:30):
Dodgers padre rivalry certainly has been something special the last
few years, but we look at the calendar. I don't
see San Diego anywhere in the month of September on
the Dodgers schedule.

Speaker 1 (21:40):
Yeah, it's kind of weird how this is the last
time they will face each other. I will say this, Look,
the Dodgers, if they win today, will give them a
huge advantage going down the stretch, considering they have won
the regular season series, meaning there would not be a
game one sixty three. Major League Baseball has done away
with that. Whoever has the uh regular season series edge

(22:04):
will be declared the division winner in any division in baseball,
and the Dodgers have done that already against the Padres,
so they do have an advantage as it's been a
seesaw battle now for the last six weeks.

Speaker 2 (22:16):
David Gray Stuff will check back in with you just
a little bit. Dave's gonna go one I want with
Alex frielan coming up. We'll dive deeper into this pitching matchup.
But I'm next your Dodgers Magical Moment Dodgers and Padres
on this Sunday, I'm Tim kas Is the World Champion
Los Angeles Dodgers Audio Network.

Speaker 7 (22:34):
This is Morongo Casino, Dodgers Hunters on your.

Speaker 5 (22:39):
Home for La Dodgers Baseball.

Speaker 2 (22:44):
This Dodgers and the San Diego Padres one final time
in the regular season is they will not see each
other until October. Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Nick Paveta the pitching matchup.
First pitch coming up, had one ten.

Speaker 10 (23:01):
Without a hot dog.

Speaker 7 (23:02):
Who wants a hot coun It's time for the Hawfy
Magical Moment. It's magical presented by Hawfey Hot Dogs.

Speaker 4 (23:11):
Well the Dodgers in San Diego.

Speaker 2 (23:13):
We would go back to August thirteenth, twenty twenty, playing
in front of cardboard cutouts during COVID. Mookie Betts went
deep against the Padres, not once, not twice, but three times.

Speaker 9 (23:25):
The three one and bets with a fly ball to
left center field, way back and he had hit it out.
Third home run of the game from Mookie Betts. He's
got seven on the season. The route is hot. The
Dodgers eleven to two on six home runs.

Speaker 5 (23:45):
Tonight.

Speaker 4 (23:46):
What a night for the Dodgers' offense. Mookie Bets.

Speaker 2 (23:49):
It's three home runs leading the Dodgers to an eleven
to two win. It's the sixth career three home run
game for Mookie Bets Tying, Johnny Mize and Sammy so
This Hofey Magical moment brought to you by Hafey hot Dogs,
Haffee so Cow's local treasure for nearly one hundred years,
Hafey hot Dogs Local one.

Speaker 4 (24:07):
So great.

Speaker 2 (24:08):
We continue here on Morongo Casino Dodgers on Deck. We'll
check back you Old Rick Monday. The lead you out
to first pitch Dodgers and Padres on this Sunday. I'm
Tim Kats's world champion Los Angeles Dodgers Audio Network.

Speaker 7 (24:21):
This is Marongo Casino Dodgers on dech.

Speaker 5 (24:26):
On your home for the Blue All Season log.

Speaker 2 (24:31):
It's the Dodgers and the Padres. Y'all, Hinobu Yabomodo and
Nick Favetta. The pitching matchup time now for the Verizon
startup is we are now a little low a little
less than thirty five minutes away from the start of
the game. Now, Verizon, you can lock it low price
for three years, so you can say big.

Speaker 4 (24:45):
Visit the Verizon store.

Speaker 2 (24:46):
Today and you can meet world champion manager Dave Roberts
this Thursday at the Verizon store in Pasadena, located at
three six to eight South Lake Avenue from five to
six pm. The event starts at four pm, so show
up early for your chance to win tickets and merch.
That's this Thursday, August twenty eighth with Dave Roberts in Pasadena,
all brought to you by Horizon and now.

Speaker 7 (25:04):
Joined by David Basseying. Here's La Dodgers broadcaster and World
Series champion Dodger Rick Monday.

Speaker 3 (25:12):
Rick.

Speaker 1 (25:12):
This is the final regular season game between the Dodgers
and Padres. And I was talking to one of your
favorite people, Tony gwinn Junior, this morning, and he said,
the schedule makers really got it wrong where this is
the last time.

Speaker 10 (25:24):
Yeah, one of my favorite people, Antony as I call him,
That's exactly what I called him when he was a
rugrat running around Jack Murphy Stadium when his dad was playing,
and we missed nad a lot and we lost him
way way too early. But yeah, Tony gwinn Junior is
one of those effervescent young men that loves this game
of baseball. He's been around in his entire life. I agree,

(25:48):
And you start to look at the schedule makers, somebody
is going to be playing interleague games because of the
number of teams, and it happens to be the Dodgers.
They'll finish up in Seattle. But yeah, it would be
really nice to have come down the last part of
the ladder to say, hey, wait a minute, Dodgers and Pandres.
It sounds kind of a natural maybe along with the

(26:10):
Dodgers and the Giants too.

Speaker 1 (26:11):
Does this feel a little anti climactic considering there's a
lot more schedule to be played. I don't.

Speaker 10 (26:20):
Be honest with you.

Speaker 1 (26:21):
I'm irritated.

Speaker 10 (26:23):
And that's the sense that I had of the ball
club coming in day one of this series. Irritation. Irritation
is that things aren't working out. You had a wonderful
postgame interview on the TV side with Dave Robertson. I
know it was played on the postgame Dodger Talk too.
He said, hey, look, this is not the time of

(26:44):
the year to be trying to find your swing, be
trying to make better contact, be trying to find He goes,
we need a different level of trying.

Speaker 3 (26:54):
At this particular point.

Speaker 10 (26:55):
And then Miguel Rojas, as you talk to as well,
you know, he kind of backed that up. This is
the time to produce. This has going on way too long,
because if we start to look at numbers, and the
numbers are what the numbers are. Dodgers in second place
the nationally Western Division, and if you look at some
other numbers, it's indication of you know, this has been

(27:16):
a free fall since the nine game lead on the
third of July. The Dodgers are gone seventeen and twenty five,
the Padres are gone twenty eight and sixteen. Well, that's
got to change. And there's no better time than today.
And by the way, today Dodgers are throwing out their
hot guy, and that's the Yamamoto and they've got to
figure out they, being the Dodgers, how to get the

(27:36):
Nick Bavenna. He comes on thirteen and four. He did
not pitch well against him earlier this year when they
matched up. But you know, things are what they are.
The Dodgers need to get out of the doldrums of losing.

Speaker 1 (27:49):
Yeah, Miguel Rojas that after the game wreck, they've got
to make better adjustments in game than what they are doing.

Speaker 10 (27:55):
Yes, and better adjustments at home plate in the pitches
that they're offering missing right now again last night they
missed a lot of really good pitches down the middle.
They've not played well, and I thought, really last night
looking at the ballgame. I've said this before and I
continue to say it. I said it as a player,
and I say it as a broadcaster and as a fan.

(28:17):
Teams that are not hitting loke lethargic. Yeah, the Dodgers
that fit that bill. Each of the first two games
in this series, including from the six hitting go one
last night. There was a let of standing around defensively, the.

Speaker 1 (28:28):
One bright spot for the Dodgers in the first two games.
And he's gonna join us coming up in just a
minute here, Rick is Alex Freeland. He's had a great
road trip, including hitting two home runs.

Speaker 10 (28:38):
He's very interesting. Obviously, he's more of a threat from
the left side hitting, and we've seen that the pinch
hit home run last night. I also like what he
has done from a defensive standpoint. They moved him around
third base and second base on that end of it,
and a chance to see him play. He's going to
bat in the five spot today and play at third base.

Speaker 1 (28:58):
Yeah, he's a guy that is understated and celebrating his
twenty fourth birthday today.

Speaker 10 (29:04):
See there we go, Rick fo Yeah, Well, they need
to blow out the candles of the Padres and celebrate
his birthday.

Speaker 1 (29:11):
I love that the Dodgers need that Rick Monday type
of edge.

Speaker 10 (29:13):
Well you know what we say, you and I privately
to Dave Roberts when we walk in. Thanks skipper. You
know what today is? Yeah, yeah, it's a good day
to go just some Yeah.

Speaker 1 (29:21):
Okay, fine, sounds like a plan. Rick, thanks a lot.
We'll see. We'll check back in with you and Stephen
Nels can't wait us too, We'll send it back to
you in the studio.

Speaker 2 (29:31):
Tim all right, thank you guys. That's the Dodgers game plan.
Dodger fans, you need a game plan for your future.
Started at a California community college. Financial aids available help
you with tuition, books, sometimes even the rent. Time to
take that next big step? What are you waiting for, Paul?
Class is starting soon. Classes can fill up quickly, so
en roll today at I can go to college dot com.
Still to come here on Dodgers on Deck, I'll dive

(29:51):
deeper into this pitching matchup today with Yoshinobu Yamamoto on
the mound, Stephen and Rick is Momentchell'll be back with
the keys of the game.

Speaker 4 (29:58):
But up next we go high.

Speaker 2 (29:59):
And tight with the birth Today Boy Alex Friedlan, the
only guy to have any offense this weekend home run Friday,
home run last night.

Speaker 4 (30:06):
That's it. We'll hear from Alex next.

Speaker 2 (30:08):
Dodgers Padres, final game of this three game set from
San Diego coming up at one ten. I'm Tim Kats's
world champion Los Angeles Dodgers Audio Network.

Speaker 7 (30:17):
As we were saying, this is Marongo Casino Dodgers on
Jack on, the official home of La Dodgers Baseball.

Speaker 2 (30:29):
It's a Dodgers and the Padres on this Sunday afternoon.
Dodgers one game back in the division, trying to even
it up before heading home to start a six game
homestand Dodgers Baseball brought to you by Shaky's Pizza Parlor,
the official pizza partner of the Dodgers Audio Broadcast. When
it's game day, it's group day at Shakey's dot Com.

Speaker 7 (30:46):
And now what will likely be vast fielding insults from
a Dodger player.

Speaker 4 (30:51):
It's an engagement of endearment.

Speaker 5 (30:52):
This is high and tight.

Speaker 1 (30:55):
Hey, it's great to be here in San Diego on
a beautiful Sunday morning with the Burkey Boy himself and
old twenty four. That is the one and only Alex Freeland.
Happy birthday.

Speaker 12 (31:06):
Thank you, man, I appreciate it.

Speaker 1 (31:08):
You were telling me you're not a guy that likes
to promote his birthday, so you just want this on
the low key No.

Speaker 12 (31:13):
Low key.

Speaker 16 (31:14):
I'm just not gonna like boast about it or anything like.
That's another day to me.

Speaker 1 (31:19):
Hey, now it's out there on the streets. You're doing
this interview, so now everybody knows it's your birthday.

Speaker 12 (31:25):
Me and Keyk's birthday. Happy birthday, ke K.

Speaker 1 (31:27):
That's right, key K, you share a birthday with him.
If he was here right now, you definitely would be
overshadowed on a birthday.

Speaker 12 (31:34):
I'm still overshadowed and he's not here.

Speaker 1 (31:37):
Hey, you hit your first major league home run two
nights ago. You hit your first pinchhit major league home
run last night. What's it like to be able to
contribute in these ways in whatever role Dave calls you upon.

Speaker 16 (31:50):
It's a really good feeling because I always want to
provide and be the best I can be. So seeing
the seeing those home runs, she gave me like some
more confidence to go out there and play free and
U produce.

Speaker 1 (32:05):
It's been a big road trip for you, going back
to Denver you had your first extra base hit. Is
it just a product of being more comfortable or is
it just being able to, you know, see the pictures
better this road trip.

Speaker 16 (32:17):
Now, I think I'm a little bit more comfortable now
and I've kind of settled in and I've seen some success.
So it's like I'm building that confidence and now I
feel really good.

Speaker 1 (32:26):
Did you need it? I felt like you always believed
you belonged.

Speaker 16 (32:30):
Yeah, I believed I belong But to to have some
some proof in.

Speaker 12 (32:34):
The pudding, it's like, all right, Like now I really
know you know.

Speaker 1 (32:38):
Can you feel that in the cage when you're working
with the other veterans. Is that where it kind of turns.

Speaker 12 (32:44):
I don't really work with the veterans. It's kind of
get in before.

Speaker 16 (32:47):
But but no, I do feel confident in everything else
that I'm doing now, like whether it's hitting in the
cage or my drill work out here for defense. Like
I just feel all the confidence.

Speaker 1 (32:59):
So that's the life of a rookie. You have to
get into the batting cage before all the other regulars
are veterans show up.

Speaker 12 (33:06):
You bet you better get your work in before them.

Speaker 1 (33:08):
I walked by the batting cage this morning in San
Diego and Miguel Rojas was in there, so obviously you
snuck in right before he started.

Speaker 12 (33:16):
Yeah, I was done before he started.

Speaker 1 (33:18):
Make sure I didn't make you feel that he knew
it was your birthday.

Speaker 12 (33:24):
I don't know.

Speaker 16 (33:24):
I think he knew that it was Keyk's birthday and
then he found out, Oh, it's free of his birthday too.

Speaker 1 (33:30):
Alex. Talking to other rookies that have come through here
the last fourteen years, they talked about finding a routine
is key to being able to succeed at this level.
Have you found a routine?

Speaker 16 (33:42):
I mean yeah, just about every single day. It's pretty
much the same for me. Show up, go prep, get
in the cage, and come out, do my drills for defense,
and then stretch.

Speaker 1 (33:59):
They don't need everything. Okay, it doesn't sound very exciting
the way you were saying it.

Speaker 16 (34:05):
It's just it's it's simple, it's original, it's nothing fancy.

Speaker 12 (34:10):
It's just work.

Speaker 1 (34:11):
Yeah.

Speaker 16 (34:11):
So yeah, it's not it's not gonna sound fun or
or great by any means, but uh, it's what it is,
and it's what I do.

Speaker 1 (34:20):
How do you groom that beautiful statue yours.

Speaker 12 (34:22):
Yeah, right, don't call it beautiful. I've heard enough.

Speaker 1 (34:27):
Hey before, I let you go a lot of times.
It's hard to get your home run ball back in
a hostile environment like San Diego. Did you get your
first home run ball back? And what was demanded of you?

Speaker 16 (34:38):
Yeah, we got it back. I signed a bat and
a ball and Alex has it. He's gonna case it
up and give it to me in La.

Speaker 1 (34:46):
So there was no negotiating.

Speaker 12 (34:48):
I never even met the people. So it's like like Alex.

Speaker 16 (34:51):
Just showed up in the in the dugout and was like, hey,
sign this bat in this ball, and I was like, okay,
and that's what we gave him.

Speaker 1 (34:58):
A simple man with a simple plan. But it's working,
Alex Freeland. I'm proud Central Florida University. What's your mascot again, Freeland?
I don't even know. It's not on my radar.

Speaker 12 (35:09):
It's like the Nights, but now it's like Citronauts.

Speaker 1 (35:12):
Okay, all right, we'll leave it right there. Thanks a
lot your routine here, college mascot scintillating Happy birthday. Anyway,
We'll see what he's got in store on the field tonight.
That's what he's good at. We'll send it back to you,
all right.

Speaker 4 (35:26):
Thanks a lot of DV.

Speaker 2 (35:27):
Alex Freeland one of the good young guys and respects
the veterans on that Dodgers team. Get into the batting
cage before they get there. All right, Thank you, Alex,
Thank you DV. As we lead you that to first pitch,
Dodger fans coming up, we'll dive deeper into this pitchy matchup.

Speaker 4 (35:41):
Don't go anywhere.

Speaker 2 (35:42):
I'm Tim Kates is the world champion Los Angeles Dodgers
Audio Network.

Speaker 7 (35:48):
This is Morongo Casino Dodgers hunting on your home for
La Dodgers Baseball.

Speaker 2 (35:56):
It's Dodgers and the sand Diango Padre on this Sunday afternoon.

Speaker 4 (36:01):
First pitch from pet Go Park coming up, A one,
ten yea.

Speaker 7 (36:05):
And now before the Dodgers hit the dining we look
at the pitching matchupshe's.

Speaker 2 (36:10):
In about your Southern California Toyota dealers work hard, in
play hard in a New Tacoma with an I Force
turbo charged engine. At the truck built for the bold
See your Toyota dealer today. They make it easy. Nick
Paveta has made it look easy this year. The thirty
two year old veteran right hander in his ninth season
now in the big leagues, he's thirteen and four the
two eighty one EERRA Philly's Red Sox now the Padres,

(36:32):
making his twenty six start this season last time out
six innings, one run, three hits, ten punchouts in a
win over the Giants. Making his fifth start here in
the month of August, He's three and one with a
two eighty one ERA in twenty three strikeouts and six
career starts against the Dodgers, He's one in one the
two seventy six ERA he faced the Dodgers or this
year June ninth at Petgo Park, he's tied for the

(36:54):
second fewest of the season innings. That was, he didn't
have a good outing, the Dodgers roughed them up. Hoping
to do that again. He allowed five runs on a
season high eight hits in an eventual Padres loss, which
is good for the Dodgers.

Speaker 4 (37:05):
They can get after him again.

Speaker 2 (37:06):
Yoshinobu Yamamoto on the mound for the Dodgers. The twenty
seven year old now right hander ten and eight with
the two to ninety ERA Yama Moto remains amongst the
National Leagu's elite starters, ranking fifth and batting average against
strikeout raid and six and strikeouts per nine innings. He
has posted a one to eighty two batting average against
left handers this season, best for sixth in the Major

(37:26):
leagues and third in the National League. He is coming
off his thirteenth quality start, where he wins seven innings
against Colorado in Denver, allowed three runs on four hits
while striking out six of the starting staffs. Eleven outings
of seven plus innings are more this year for the Dodgers.
Yoshinobu Yamamoto has six of those. He's given him a
lot of length and hoping to do that again today

(37:47):
at Petco Park. Dodgers need it, need to get the
offense going as well. Yoshinobu Yamamoto. Nick Paveta Dodgers Padres
were fifteen minutes away.

Speaker 3 (37:55):
For first pitch.

Speaker 4 (37:55):
Keys to the game.

Speaker 2 (37:56):
Our next, I'm Tim Kasey's World champion Los Angeles Dodgers Audio.

Speaker 7 (37:59):
Now one, This is Marongo Casino Dodgers on.

Speaker 5 (38:05):
Dead on your home for the Blue All season long.

Speaker 2 (38:11):
It's the Dodgers and the Padres final time this regular
season that these two teams will square off. Hard to
believe that, Thank you schedule makers. Dodgers seventy three and
fifty seven. They've lost two in a row in this
three game set, so they are one game back in
the division behind the Padres, who have now won five
in a row and sit atop the division is seventy

(38:33):
four and fifty six. The Dodgers have not scored very
often in this series. The Dodgers pitching well last night,
got away from Tyler Glass now had to leave the
game after four innings. The Dodgers looked to get back
on track today. It's gonna be a tough against the
venture in Nick Pavetta. It's head back out to the
booth one final time before first pitch, Steven Nelson, Rick Monday, guys.

Speaker 8 (38:52):
All right, TC, quick hitter with Rick Monday here mo
Yoshinobu Yamamoto against Nick Pivetta. Nick Pavetta was the guy
you circle going into the series. Oh, this is going
to be the toughest Padre well you Darvish and Nester
Cortez took it to the Dodgers from a starting pitching standpoint,
So give me a key in this series.

Speaker 10 (39:08):
Four, Well, the key is to have better at pats
and by that I'm talking about, hey, don't miss pitches
down the middle, and that's what the Dodgers have done.
The other part, too, is don't expand the strike zone.
We talk about so many times. Paveta had that no
decision in that start in La went four innings, gave
up four earned runs on eight hits, including a home run.
But he's been really tough at home where he's eight

(39:30):
and one versus five and three on the road. On
the flip side, the Yashanoma Yamamoto, you know, he started
that game on the nineteenth of June at Dodgers Stadium,
the losing pitcher, but he pitched better than the outcome.
He went six and two thirds, allowed three runs. Career,
he's one and two with an ERA unfortunately he's very high.
But for Yamamoto, the first eleven starts this year ERA

(39:53):
under two. The last thirteen starts, it's almost three and
three quarters, and that needs to come down. But the Dodgers,
to make it real simple, steven, they've got to score
some runs and do a better job with the bats.

Speaker 8 (40:05):
Yeah, Tim, we'll get it back. To you on the
biggest key, and that's for the big guns in the
Dodger lineup. Otani bets Freeman Smith and Tioscar Hernandez and
combined two for thirty six with ten strikeouts in this series.
Will Smith is not starting, but he may have to
come off the bench late to grab a bat. In
the meantime, Otani bets Freeman Taoscar Hernandez. Everybody is looking

(40:26):
at them to turn it around and help the Dodgers
avoid a sweet first pitch coming up.

Speaker 2 (40:30):
Yeah, Dodgers bottom the line up two steven very important.
Michael Confordo batting seventh, I mean Gil Rojas batty and
eighth Dalton rushing batty ninth. They need to get some
sort of production offensively from those three and flip it
back to the top of the water to make sure
those big four get it going.

Speaker 4 (40:46):
First pinches coming up next.

Speaker 2 (40:48):
Nick Pavetta and Yoshinobu Yamamoto on the mound. Dodgers going
to play one game back in the division. A win
would mean a lot. They leave San Diego tied top
the NL West. That's the best they can do with
a victory today and then head home to start a
six game homestead against the Reds and the Diamondbacks.

Speaker 4 (41:05):
First things, first.

Speaker 2 (41:07):
Offense, wake up, pitching be good. Dodgers need to win.
Let's go first pitches next. From Petco Park in San Diego,
this has been Moroco Casino Dodgers on Deck on the
