Speaker 3 (00:47):
Hope you're enjoying this beautiful Tuesday evening here in southern
California the bright blue sky as a Dodgers again atop
the NL West at seventy five and fifty seven on
this season, Dodgers continue this three game set against the
Cincinnati Reds and tonight, a future Hall of Famer on
(01:07):
the mound in Clayton Kershaw. First pitch from Dodgers Stadium
is coming up at seven to ten. Between then and now,
we got a lot to get to here on Marongo
Casino Dodgers on deck, including hearing from the manager himself,
Dave Roberts. We'll dive deeper into this pitching matchup. David
Vasse joins us.
Speaker 1 (01:24):
Throughout the hour.
Speaker 3 (01:25):
We got your Dodgers magical moment. We'll hear from former
Dodger now red Gavin Lux. We'll got your visit with
Kirsten Watson from Sports and at LA coming up in
less than ten minutes, And in just a few minutes,
we'll head out to the gallopin Motors Broadcast Booth with
Tim Nevert and Rick monday Well. Last night at the Ravine,
Image Shean gave the Dodgers exactly what they needed seven
(01:49):
shutout innings. He scattered just two hits along the way
while punching out ten. Image Sheen with a dominant performance
on the Mound've got some great defense behind him as well.
He got some offense from Andy pi Haz getting it
going in the third with a solo home run three
hundred and ninety two feet to left, and the Dodgers
grabbed a one to nothing lead on Hunter Green and
(02:11):
the Reds then in the fifth, Andy Pa has at
it again.
Speaker 6 (02:15):
So he's at second and here's Andy Pie is responsible
for the loan run tonight with a homer to left
and then he swings the.
Speaker 5 (02:22):
First pitch, drives the deep to left again. That one's
toward the corner. It's gonna be gone. It has gone.
Speaker 6 (02:29):
Another home run for Andy Piz, a two run shot.
Speaker 5 (02:33):
Hit it to the left of the Dodger bullpen.
Speaker 6 (02:36):
It is three to nothing Los Angeles.
Speaker 5 (02:40):
A multi homer night for Andy pis.
Speaker 3 (02:43):
Number twenty two and number twenty three for Andy Pie
has his second career multi home run game. He goes
two for three, couple of home runs for RBI. As
the Dodgers offense erupted last night. In the sixth, they
tacked on two more after some sloppy play by the
Cincinnati defense opened the door for two more for the Dodgers,
(03:03):
who let it five to nothing. Then in the seventh,
Mooky with a blast three.
Speaker 6 (03:09):
Two pitch two bets from Mall He swings and Hammerson
down the left field line deep to the corner.
Speaker 7 (03:15):
Go on.
Speaker 5 (03:16):
The home run from Mokey hit us six nothing Dodgers
bets with his fourteenth home run of the season. It
was a frozen rope hit.
Speaker 6 (03:27):
Down the left field line and the Dodgers had on.
Speaker 3 (03:32):
In the seventh, Mooky Bets goes deep solo home run
as Mooky has the highlight of the game, the top
tier play of the game, brought to by Arco Quality.
Speaker 1 (03:43):
Top tier gas for less. Dodgers weren't done.
Speaker 3 (03:45):
Andy Patz a sack fly to left Dodgers up seven
to nothing. That would be enough for Ima Shean, who
goes a career high seven innings, ties a career high
with ten strikeouts. Jack Tryer Anthony Banda come in and
pissed the final two winnings put up zeros. As the
Dodgers shut out the Cincinnati Reds last night seven to nothing,
(04:06):
image and his fifth win of the year, Hunter Green
falls to five and four. With the Dodger win and
the Mariners beating the Padres last night, the Dodgers now
all alone again atop the NL West, one game up
in the division over the Padres. Dodgers seventy five and
fifty seven. They look to keep the winning going. With
the future Hall of Famer on the mount, number twenty two,
(04:28):
Clayton Kershaw will go for the Dodgers in game two
of this three games set first pitch at seven ten
and with more, let's head out to the Gallpin Motors
broadcast booth as we welcome in Tim Neverett and Rick Monday.
Speaker 5 (04:39):
Guys, Tim, thank you very much.
Speaker 6 (04:41):
Perfect evening for a ballgame here at Dodgers Stadium, Sunshine,
blue skies, as we get ready to start a little
bit of a breeze blowing.
Speaker 5 (04:47):
Out toward right field.
Speaker 6 (04:48):
As the Dodgers look to win their second game in
a row against the Cincinnati Reds. We'll go for three
in a row overall. After taking the last game in
San Diego on Sunday. Last night, the Dodgers seven nothing
shutout winners, their sixth shutout of the season. Emma Chehan
was fantastic on the mind last night, seven innings, a
career high tying ten strikeouts, and he picked up his
(05:12):
fifth win of the season tonight. Clayton Kershaw looks to
remain unbeaten in August. This will be his final start
this month. He's four and oh with a one ninety
ERA in August overall eight and two with a three
thirteen ear in run average. He will face right hander
Nick Martinez Martinez ten to nine and a four to
five to nine ERA four. Cincinnati Dodgers start tonight a
(05:34):
game ahead of the Podres in the National League Western
Division standings. Meantime, the Reds are way back in the
Central but only two and a half behind in the
wild Card, chasing the New York Mets. And tonight, mal
it's another big night, as they all are. As we're
within a month remaining in terms of games left in
the regular season. This is game one thirty three, thirty games.
Speaker 2 (05:57):
Left, thirty games left, and no better time to have
that shut out there six of the season. Last night.
I thought Emma Chen was absolutely incredible in the ten strikeouts,
did not allow a run only two hints after a ballgame.
Listened to David bet saying the postgame Dodger Talk, and
I thought his manager Dave Roberts summing up she and
(06:21):
and says, look, he absolutely attacked hitters last night. That's
exactly what he was able to do. And the fact
that he could control the fastball. Also the breaking stuff,
including the change up and that slider. The slider was
absolutely terrific last night. Used it as a big weapon,
and hopefully that's going to be the case. Roberts, in fact,
after the ball game said, probably last night's game one
of the better games, more complete games than the Dodgers
(06:43):
have played in months, and that's according to their manager.
Speaker 6 (06:46):
Well, defensively, they were right on point last night. Michael
confordo made an exceptional play and left ta Oscar Hernandez
another one and right, and Mookie Betts perhaps his best
play at short stuff.
Speaker 2 (06:57):
Yeah, and we continued out to see the last two games,
in particular some very good defense. And for Mookie Betts,
you know, there were some people that kind of doubted
Bets coming in. Gold glove right fielder is going to
take over at shortstop. No one can deny what Bets
has done in recent times, and Mookie is like he's
living up to the challenge. Hey, you doubt what I
(07:18):
can do at shortstop, I'll show you That's exactly what
he has done. But you mentioned the defensive plays. By
my account, there were four different outstanding defensive plays last
night that really enabled the fact to shut out the Reds.
Speaker 6 (07:32):
Well, tonight, O'tani will go for home run number one
hundred with the Dodgers. He's sitting on ninety nine. He
is tied for the league lead with forty five with
the Phillies Kyle Schwarber, and we'll see what Otani can
do tonight after getting off to a bit of a
slow start last night. He did reach base with a
walk in the third, but he was zero for three otherwise.
(07:53):
Betts with a home run last night. Andy pie has
What a night he had. He was involved in everything
last night. Two home runs, he had a sacrifice fly,
so there was four RBIs right there because one of
the home runs was a two run homer. And then
in the sixth then he hit a ball right to
the shortstop Ellie d la Cruz's legs and two more
runs scored.
Speaker 2 (08:12):
Yeah, a good night for Bias. He continues to really
kind of power the ball. We've been talking about. Well,
some the Dodger players are getting closer and closer coming
off the injured list. Well, we see one back in
the lineup tonight, that being Kick a Hernandez. He'll be
at third base, batting in the eighth spot. So the
Dodgers kind of rounding it out gradually. They're getting some
healthy players back and fold and more work today.
Speaker 6 (08:34):
Max Munsey taking ground balls, Tommy Edmund gonna take more
swings in the cage, so is Munsey and Tommy Edmund's
been running in the outfield as they get a little
closer to their return. Michael Kopek expected to return sometime
when the Dodgers go on the road after the weekend.
So tonight it's Nick Martinez for the Reds Clayton Kershaw
(08:54):
for the Dodgers as the Dodgers and Reds play game
two of this three game set.
Speaker 1 (08:58):
Tim all right, thank you guys. We're counting you down
to first pitch.
Speaker 3 (09:01):
Dodger fans, get that game day meal on It's Shaky's
Pizza Parlor. Order your Shaky's Pizza, chicken and mojos right
now at Shakys dot com. All right, coming up here
on Morongo because you know Dodgers on deck. You're gonna
hear from the Dodger manager himself, Dave Roberts. We will
check in it with David Vasse. We'll hear from Gavin Lux.
We'll dive deeper into this pitching matchup. We got your
magical moment.
Speaker 1 (09:22):
But I'm next.
Speaker 3 (09:22):
You're o Tani Rewine and we visit with Sports and
at Las, Yourston Watson. That's all coming up as we
lead you off to Dodgers and Reds from the Ravine.
First pitch at seven ten. Next should be with us.
Tim kase is the world champion Los Angeles Dodgers Audio Network.
Speaker 7 (09:39):
Well, this is Morongo Casino Dodgers Hunt game on your
home for LA Dodgers Baseball.
Speaker 3 (09:47):
Lead you up to Dodgers and the Cincinnati Reds on
this Tuesday night. Keith k Hernandez is back in the
starting lineup for the Dodgers, first game since July fifth.
Clayton Kershaw on the Mount, Nick Martinez go for Cin tonight.
First pitch coming up at seventeen.
Speaker 7 (10:03):
This is the Otani rewind.
Speaker 3 (10:07):
Well, it was a quiet night last night for show
Aotani zero for three at the plane, but did get
on base via a walk. It was Mookie Betts going
deep last night, and it was the flexing and the
muscles from Andy Paez who hit two home runs drove
in four part of a Dodger's seven to nothing shutout
of the Reds.
Speaker 7 (10:26):
This is Kirston's Corner with Kirston Watson.
Speaker 3 (10:31):
Hey Kirson Al joins us from Dodger Stadi and brought
to you by Cars for Kids Ready to donate that
little car call eight seven seven Cars for kids right now,
friendly agent standing by to take your donation. That's cars
with the K to donate your car today. Yesterday Keiky
Hernandez activated off the injured list.
Speaker 1 (10:47):
That was a positive step. And tonight he's in the
line of Kirsten.
Speaker 8 (10:52):
He sure as he's playing at third base and with
Key caving back one. He just brings a different kind
of energy. And that's not to say this team didn't
have it before, but the kind of the the excitement,
the feel, the energy and the dugout he just he
brings that and hopefully his bat is gonna come this
time around as well. You know, earlier this season, when
he was dealing with that elbow injury, even he was saying,
(11:13):
you know, it was one he was trying to push through,
but ultimately it just it was one where he ended
up having to have four different shots. Finally he was
a second cortizone shot that took. He was nervous he
was gonna have to have a season ending surgery on
his elbow, and so he really does believe that as
much as like some of those results, he kind of
was just like playing with a dead arm, and so
he wasn't getting he was late to the fastball, he
(11:35):
just wasn't getting the swing how he wanted. He couldn't
make the contact he wanted to. So now he comes
back where he's healthy, he's feeling really good, and even
what we saw on his rehab assignments, like the results
were there. So not only does he just bring a spark,
but the hope is that he can also bring some
length to the lineup and kind of just be another
force offensively, because that has kind of been one of
(11:56):
the keys for this group right now, is can find
that consistency with their back and looking to get those
results offensively to kind of set the tone in things.
Speaker 3 (12:03):
We talk a lot about key ab and back. Max
mounts he also close to coming back Hereston.
Speaker 1 (12:09):
Yeah.
Speaker 8 (12:09):
So for Max, of course, has continued just doing different
drills here, a lot of defensive work, taking some swings.
He's feeling really good. And I was even laughing with
him today. I was like, so, what's the plan? Are
you going on a rehab assignment? And he goes, you know,
when you find out, do you let me know? And
I was like, I can. I'll have money, He'll talk
to your people. Not a problem but Dave Roberts did
confirm that he is going to go on a rehab assignment.
(12:31):
How many games that's going to be, he didn't know
just yet. It doesn't seem like he's going to need
a long one. Dave Roberts was saying that they're hoping
to have him activated by the back end of this
next road trip, so the team will be going to
Pittsburgh and then Baltimore next week. So I mean, that's
not that far from now. So the fact that he
could be returning, and the fact that he just feels good.
(12:51):
He had a birthday yesterday, starting to get a little antsy,
ready to be back out there, So that's all good
signs for him.
Speaker 1 (12:57):
How about Tommy Edmund.
Speaker 3 (12:59):
He haven't forgot abouts, but it's been a minute since
we heard his.
Speaker 8 (13:01):
Name, I know, and it's crazy to think, like even
Tommy and I were talking about it. Guys are getting
healthy at the right time. So Tommy does have a
little bit more time on him. But he's feeling good.
So he actually was in the cage taking some swings.
He's been doing a lot of sprint work, a lot
of kind of cutting and running around the bases. The
biggest thing for him right now is just those sharp
(13:23):
quick movements really, like kind of the lateral, the you know,
the change of direction, the stuff where maybe you're on
base you have to get back, things like that to
avoid the pickoff. So that's kind of he's trying to
recreate those examples right now. For him, this is an
injury where he has dealt with it in the past,
so he understands kind of what the final check marks
(13:44):
were in all the boxes he needed to get through,
So this is kind of the final thing for him.
So he's feeling really good. He's ready to get back
out there, and the hope is that it's really just
kind of like I was saying before, everyone's getting healthy
at the right time. So he didn't give me an
exact timeline or thing that I asked. I said, are
you know, are you feeling like you're closed? And he
was like, it feels very close right now. So that's
(14:05):
only good news from Tommy.
Speaker 3 (14:06):
Yeah, it seems like a lot of good news on
the injury front for this Dodgers team, and that is
the perfect time of year to begin these guys all
healthy down the stretch run.
Speaker 1 (14:14):
Curiously, we appreciate it. We'll check in with you after
the game. Still they come here.
Speaker 3 (14:17):
I'm Marango Casino Dodgers on deck. We'll dive deeper into
this pitching matchup. We'll check it with David Vezzy. But
up next we get you an injury report. And we're
here from the manager himself to Ave Roberts. It's all
leading up to Dodgers and.
Speaker 1 (14:29):
Reds on this Tuesday night, first pitch at seven to ten.
Speaker 3 (14:31):
I'm Tim kats Is, the world champion Los Angeles Dodgers
Audio that work.
Speaker 7 (14:37):
This is Marongo Casino Dodgers on deck on your home
for the blue all season law.
Speaker 3 (14:46):
Law, Marongo Casino Dodgers on deck and she used on
this Tuesday night.
Speaker 1 (14:50):
As we lead you up to first pitch.
Speaker 3 (14:52):
From the Ravine Dodgers and the Reds Marongo Casino Resort
and Spa, a Grand Slam for good times. Clayton Kershaw
and Nick Martinez. The pitching matchup, first pitch set for
seven ten.
Speaker 7 (15:04):
He's the LA Dodgers Injury.
Speaker 3 (15:07):
Report presented by UCLA Healthy, official medical partner of the
Los Angeles Dodgers. Max Munsey on the iel you heard
from Kirsten. He is going to go out on a
minor league rehabit assignment here and hopefully joined the Dodgers
team on the next road trip.
Speaker 1 (15:20):
Brock Stewart working his way back.
Speaker 3 (15:21):
Rookie Sasaki is in Triple A Oklahoma City getting some
work in. Michael Kopek also on a right rehab assignment,
working his way back from the meniscus tear in his
right knee. Let's head back out to Dodger Stadium and
check out with the Dodgers.
Speaker 4 (15:35):
Any questions for Dave Dave? Can you just describe Dave?
Speaker 5 (15:40):
Can you talk about the pressure.
Speaker 7 (15:42):
In the dugouts with Dave Roberts.
Speaker 9 (15:46):
Yeah, we're excited to have KK back. I think what
he adds uh, he adds edge, enthusiasm, energy, and he's
a heck of a baseball player. So I think the
last you know, few weeks before he went on the IO,
he was banged up clearly, and so just that infusion
of kind of you know, key K is going to
(16:08):
be good for our club certainly with where we're at,
and you know, the versatility piece as far as you
know tonight, he's at third and he can kick the
second base or anywhere in the outfield, So that's certainly helpful.
Speaker 10 (16:20):
Too, How does he play as the outfielding specifically earn
it starts and would it be mostly at center?
Speaker 4 (16:27):
Could be an optional left that board's right to see
if that.
Speaker 9 (16:29):
Again, Yeah, I mean he's he's in the mix, you know,
kind of with our construction right now, he'll play he'll
play third tomorrow with the left handed tomorrow, but yeah,
and Miggy will be at second base. But there's gonna
(16:50):
be opportunities for him to whether it's if he starts
in the infield then kicks out to the outfield, but
then there's gonna be starts in the left field and
potentially center field at time too. He mentioned that just.
Speaker 8 (17:04):
With the several injuries mench as like the swing is
feeling so much better, there's still he thinks he.
Speaker 7 (17:08):
Might have to adjust with that kind of slide.
Speaker 9 (17:11):
Things like that make certain defensive place.
Speaker 2 (17:13):
Do you think this will.
Speaker 7 (17:16):
Be kind of an injury that you're going to have.
Speaker 3 (17:17):
To kind of keep an eye on with him moving forward?
Speaker 9 (17:21):
You know, I probably, But I do think that, you know,
he's in a really good spot. But I think that
as far as kind of managing his workload with the swings,
As he mentioned the sliding and I think he's a
left hand down, you know when he slides, just being
mindful of that kind of like show hey. But yeah,
(17:43):
he's not going to play every day, so I think
that we can manage his playing time as well. But yeah,
keeping it on it. But I do think that he
is he's healthy.
Speaker 1 (17:52):
All right.
Speaker 3 (17:52):
There's the manager Dave Roberts talking about Kik and talking
about this Dodgers team leading to game two of this
three game set against the Cincinnati Red's coming up here
on Marongo Casino Dodgers on deck. We'll dive deeper in
with David vase in all the latest from the stadium
as we lead you up to first pitch. Don't forget
you're canna hear from Gavin Luck's coming up in about
twenty minutes. As we lead you up to first pitch
(18:14):
at seven ten on this Tuesday night, I'm Tim Kates.
Speaker 1 (18:17):
Is the world champion Los Angeles Dodgers. All your network.
Speaker 7 (18:22):
As we were saying yes, is Marongo Casino Dodgers on
deck on the official home of La Dodgers Baseball.
Speaker 3 (18:33):
It's a Dodgers and the Cincinnati Reds. Clayton kersh on
the mountain, Nick Martinez will go for the Reds first
pitch at sevent.
Speaker 7 (18:41):
Ten, joining Tim Kats on Dodgers on deck.
Speaker 11 (18:46):
I accept everybody for who they are.
Speaker 7 (18:48):
This is Dodger insider David Base.
Speaker 3 (18:51):
All right, David, we literally got some breaking injury news
that is coming.
Speaker 1 (18:56):
Down right now and involving the Dodgers' bullpen. What is it?
What's going on?
Speaker 4 (19:00):
Not good news to him.
Speaker 11 (19:02):
A key member of the Dodger bullpen has been placed
on the injured list, and that's key left hander Alex Vesia.
He has been placed on the injured list with a
right oblique strain. Vesia has not looked sharp in the
last couple of outings. He has not pitched since last
Tuesday in Colorado the twenty first. Sorry, last Thursday in Colorado,
(19:26):
he did not pitch in San Diego, did not pitch
last night. So obviously it had been bothering him and
he was trying to work through it but just couldn't.
So Alex Vesia goes on the injured list with a
right oblique strain, and the calendar is not in his favor.
There's only thirty games left in the regular season. If
(19:47):
you have a right oblique strain, it takes a little time,
especially when you're not throwing the baseball.
Speaker 1 (19:52):
What does that mean for this bullpen, David?
Speaker 3 (19:54):
I mean you get Tanner, Scott and Kirby Yates back
over the weekend, the good and the bad, the ying
and the yang.
Speaker 1 (20:00):
I guess they got some arms back. But losing Vessi
is big huge.
Speaker 11 (20:04):
He's the highest leverage not only left handed reliever, but
reliever period. I mean, he is one of the guys
the Dodgers have really counted on all season long. They
have worked him more than any other reliever in their
bullpen this side of Anthony Bonda. So the good news
is the Dodgers still have two left handers they can
(20:26):
use in Anthony Bonda and also rookie Jack Dryer, who
has emerged as an Alex Vesia type. As far as
a roster move to get reinforcements, that's not happening right
now because the Dodgers just activated Blakesnel off the off
the paternity list, so it's not like they brought up
(20:47):
another relief pitcher today. So unfortunate news for the twenty
nine year old Alex Vesia, who has made fifty nine
appearances so far this year.
Speaker 1 (20:57):
Wow.
Speaker 3 (20:57):
David has brought to you By twenty twenty five for
one fiter deep in California's best selling truck brand. It's
time to see Ford at a new lightboard for America
from America. More injury news, but on a positive David
Max Munsey getting closer.
Speaker 4 (21:11):
Yeah.
Speaker 11 (21:12):
Max Munsey took batting practice on the field for the
first time since we have seen him go on on
the injured list, and he was sending rockets to right
field during batting practice. Also good news. Tommy edmund for
the second straight day was taken actually going back to
San Diego.
Speaker 4 (21:29):
Tim three straight on field batting.
Speaker 11 (21:32):
Practices for Tommy Edmunds, So he's on his way back.
He just needs to check all the boxes. So certainly
encouraging news. And Dave Roberts said during his pregame press
conference for the second straight day, confirm that Munsey is
likely to be activated on the upcoming road trip next week.
Speaker 3 (21:52):
Tonight, we have to mention David Happy Kershaw Day Clayton Kershaw,
the future Hall of Famer on the Mounds.
Speaker 11 (21:58):
Yeah, and the old guy in this rotation eighteen seasons
going strong and the Dodgers are putting him in a
position they have not put any other pitcher outside of
Tyler glass Now this season, which is having Kershaw pitch
on regular rest. Glass Now and Kershaw are going to
be the only two Dodgers starters to have started on
(22:22):
four days rest. So that's that's because o'tani needs to
start tomorrow with the day off on Thursday. So Kershaw,
being the guy that is always ready and wants to pitch,
is going to be the guy on regular rest tonight.
Speaker 3 (22:39):
All right, David Gray stuff, We appreciate it. Dodgers' injury
news in case you missed it. Alex Vesia goes on
the IL with the right obleague strain. More on that
coming up here throughout. Dodgers on deck. When we continue here,
we'll get you your magical moment.
Speaker 1 (22:53):
Don't forget.
Speaker 3 (22:54):
We'll hear from Gavin Luckx coming up in about fifteen minutes.
It's the Dodgers and the Reds on this Tuesday night.
First pitch is I'm Tim Kason's a world champion.
Speaker 1 (23:01):

Speaker 3 (23:17):
It's the Dodgers and the Cincinnati Reds on this Tuesday night.
Clayton Kershaw on the mountain. First pitch coming up at
seven ten.
Speaker 12 (23:29):
Dog who wants the hot It's time for the hawfe
Magical Moment. Bitch Magical Magical presented by Hawfey Hot Dogs.
Speaker 3 (23:38):
We go back to twenty fourteen, May twenty six, Dodgers
taking on the Cincinnati Reds. The day before in a
getaway game in Philadelphia, Josh Beckett threw a no hitter
for the Dodgers. The next day, Dodgers back home taking
on the Reds at the Ravine. Youn Jenry Yu took
a perfect game into the eighth.
Speaker 2 (23:58):
One two the pitch from Rio gotting. Fastball came up
and in well Henjin. Rio has faced six batters, he
has struck out two and he is not allowed a
base hit. The terror sitting outside. Here's the pitch on
the way, Gas up, Audios, ship.
Speaker 5 (24:17):
Engine.
Speaker 2 (24:17):
Rio started the night's ball game. He's struck out Billy
Hamilton in the first inning. He just struck out Johnny
quatoed in the sixth, and the Reds have yet to
have a runner reached first base. Red still looking for
the first base hit. Rio delivers and there's a line
drive base hit down the left field line. It'll go
for extra bases. Fraser digs in and he will make
(24:39):
it very easily. And after retire twenty one consecutive batters,
the Reds get a base hit, a double by Fraser
in the crowd acknowledging the effort by henjan Rio Todd.
Speaker 3 (24:52):
Fraser breaks it up with a double in the eighth
inning and he on Jenruse so close to perfection. Against
the Cincinnati Reds back in twenty fourteen, Dodgers would win
the game four to three. This Hofey magical moment brought
to you by Hoffey Hot talks Offy Soakow's local treasure
for nearly one hundred years. Haffy Hot talks Local so great.
Speaker 1 (25:13):
We continue here on Dodgers on Deck. We will check back.
Speaker 3 (25:15):
You know, Rick Monday for leading you up to first pitch.
Dodgers and Reds in the ravine. I'm Tim Kasi's the

Speaker 3 (25:34):

(26:02):
Thursday with Dave Roberts in Pasadena, all brought to you

Speaker 7 (26:07):
And now joined by David Bassey. Here's La Dodgers broadcaster
and World Series Champion Dodger Rick Monday.
Speaker 11 (26:17):
Well, today was one of those days you come to
the ballpark and you have your smile on your face
from the very beginning. Because our very own Rick Monday
invited me to join him to go say hello to
an old friend.
Speaker 2 (26:30):
It is nice to go ahead and talk to old friends.
And with Terry Francona, the managers now of the Cincinnati
Reds years and years ago, David his dad, the original
Tito Francona was a teammate of mine for a brief
period of time towards the end of his career with
the Oakland A's, and the apple did not far fall
(26:52):
far from the tree because of the current Terry Francona.
Tito is just like his dad, just one of the
remarkable people. I've known Terry since he was ten years
of age when he would come to the ballpark with
his dad, and every day at the time, I'm twenty
two and my third year at the big league level,
(27:13):
and every day that Terry would be at the ballpark
before batnock practice, iided to say, Hey, kid, would like
to play catch, and we played kench Little did we
know that years and years later, if we think back
to nineteen eighty one, the championship series for the National
League Championship against the Montreal Expos, Terry Francona now the
(27:34):
manager of the Cincinnati Reds, and that kid that I
used to play catch with when his dad was a
teammate of mine with Oakland actually played in that series.
He had won at bat in that particular series in
nineteen eighty one, So it went full circle. And you
can tell is that we really enjoy one another because.
Speaker 4 (27:53):
It's a chance for us to go back.
Speaker 2 (27:55):
And you and I will talk about the same thing.
Baseball was a better game of try Francona in it.
He's just one of those one of those people that
is best suited, he feels good. It's good to have
him back in. Just one of the people and families
for that matter that I just have total respect for him.
Speaker 11 (28:11):
Yeah, and he did give you a hard time for that.
He said, you sent me home in nineteen eighty one.
Speaker 2 (28:15):
Well, somebody, if you think back to it, both the
expos and the Doctors had planes at the airport. One
of the two planes was going to go to New
York because the World Series would begin the next night.
Because of a rain delay, a washout on that Sunday's game,
we had to play on Monday. World Series was going
to start in New York on Tuesday night. So it
(28:36):
was the Dodger plane that left that went to New York.
And for Terry, it's you know, it's competition, it comes
down to it. But I will look forward to Cincinnati.
You know, they're trying to make a push for that
third spot in the Wildcard of the National League. And
I would full well expect. With Terry Francona at the
helm of their ball plumb, they're going to continue to
(28:56):
improve and if we look back to, you know, look
ahead to the next year, it could be something really good.
They're not giving up anything for this year, but I
think there's a series of announcements and I think next year.
Speaker 4 (29:08):
Will really be a big win. And it's not a coincidence.
Speaker 11 (29:11):
Wherever Terry Francona goes rick his team seemed to win well.
Speaker 2 (29:15):
He believes in the people around him and they believe
in him, and we saw a little bit of that
just in the locker room area early this afternoon. He
becomes highly respected and for very good reasons. And you know,
game one of the series. You know, Dave Roberts said
about last night's ballgame, he says, maybe the best the
Dodgers have played overall if you look at the pitching,
(29:37):
the defense, no question about it, and then timely hitting
two the best game the Dodgers have maybe played in
their manager's estimation over the last month.
Speaker 11 (29:46):
I thought about you yesterday when I saw te Oscar
Hernandez go out to right field during batting practice to
get Reid's off batting practice fly balls and last night
no coincidence.
Speaker 4 (29:58):
He made some nice plays out there.
Speaker 2 (30:00):
Did the same thing in San Diego, and Dave Robinson
did not mince words. And after one of the games
in San Diego he said, look, and he was referring
to the Tawsker, and I said, look, he's got to
get better in right field. Well, there's one way you
do it, and that's dedication. And all of these guys
are dedicated to get even better. They're in first place,
they want to get even better. And I think it
(30:20):
speaks volumes. One of the best defensive games last night
that we have seen period.
Speaker 11 (30:24):
Let's see if the Dodgers can do it again. Rick,
thanks a lot for sharing that time with.
Speaker 1 (30:29):
Enjoying the trip down there.
Speaker 2 (30:30):
Thanks thanks for joining us too.
Speaker 11 (30:32):
Yeah, that was awesome. That was one of those days
I'll remember. We'll send it back to you in the studio.
Speaker 1 (30:36):
Tim, all right, thanks a lot of TV. Thank you.
Speaker 12 (30:38):

Speaker 7 (31:11):
As we were saying yes, is Marongo Casino Dodgers on
Deck on the official home of La Dodgers Baseball.
Speaker 3 (31:23):
Dodgers and the Cincinnati Reds on this Tuesday night, game
two of this three game set. Dodgers won the opener
last night and a shutout of victory with the Mariters
beating the Padres last night. The Dodgers up one game
in the division going into play tonight. Padres in action
up in Seattle yet again, Clayton Kershaw and Nick Martinez
the pitching matchup. The Big news just announced a few
(31:44):
minutes ago injury news for the Dodgers, Alex Vesia going
on the injured list with a right oblique strain. Vessia
has been really a workhorse with this Dodgers bullpen fifty
nine games, fifty two and a third innings, sixty nine strikeouts.
They counted on him a lot in high leverage situations.
Good news is Kirby Yates, Tanner Scott activated over the weekend,
(32:05):
but certainly a big blow for the Dodgers' bullpen, Alex
Vesia going to the injured list. Dodgers Baseball is brought
to you by Shaky's Pizza Parlor, the official pizza partner
of the Dodgers audio broadcast. When it's game night, it's
group night at Shakey's dot Com.
Speaker 7 (32:18):
David and now what will likely be Vasse fielding insults
from a Dodger player.
Speaker 1 (32:23):
It's an engagement of endearment is high and tight.
Speaker 11 (32:27):
Last night, the Dodgers honored one of the members of
their twenty twenty four World Championship team, and that was
their second basement, a guy that started a few different
rallies in last year's World Series, Gavin Lux. Gavin, thanks
a lot for the time and congratulations.
Speaker 10 (32:43):
It's always an honor, mister Vasse, always an honor.
Speaker 11 (32:45):
Hey, even in this sweltering heat, the hair doesn't miss
a beat, and try not to.
Speaker 10 (32:51):
I got a haircut. A couple of days ago, Molly
was starting to say I looked a little homeless, so
had to have to clean it up a little bit.
Speaker 4 (32:58):
What's it been like for you with a new.
Speaker 11 (33:00):
Team and being part of Terry Franconis culture.
Speaker 4 (33:04):
Tito's great.
Speaker 10 (33:05):
Uh, the staff is great. Clubhouse has been great, you
know if They've made me feel welcome and and comfortable
from day one, and it's been a lot of fun
to to, you know, kind of build some culture here
with the new staff and a younger group. So we're
playing good baseball right now, and you know, we're trying
to make a little playoff bush here. So it's it's really,
it's truly, it has been, uh, you know, fun to
(33:27):
be a part of. And and it's a great group
of guys, so the mix coming to the field every
day fun.
Speaker 4 (33:31):
What was it like for you playing against the Dodgers.
Speaker 10 (33:34):
Yeah, I had a little some butterflies.
Speaker 3 (33:36):
Man.
Speaker 10 (33:36):
It was like I texted, h I was texting with
some of the guys over there. I was like, man,
I haven't felt that since since the playoffs last year
for whatever reason. You know, it's it's always fun lining
up against you know, your boys and obviously a really
talented team.
Speaker 4 (33:49):
So it was fun.
Speaker 10 (33:50):
It was it was fun to be on the other
side of it.
Speaker 11 (33:52):
The last time we did something like this was at
the championship parade in front of all those fans at
Dodgers Stadium. What is it mean to you to know
that the fans in LA appreciated your contributions to the team.
Speaker 10 (34:05):
Yeah, it's awesome. You know, those are those are some
of the best fans in any sport in the world.
And you know, whatever, how small or how big your
role is it. You know, I think they appreciate winning baseball,
and you know, they want to win just as bad
as we did, so uh, you know, I don't think
they got that full feel and during the COVID season
just with the parade and everything in the full season,
(34:27):
so I think, uh, it was pretty cool to be
able to give that to them and see how you know,
happy the city was and and the parade and all
that stuff is something you know, I'll definitely cherish forever.
Speaker 11 (34:39):
Gavin lux Is joining us before first pitch. What stands
out to you the most about the World Series Game
five or is there other moments that you flash through? Oh?
Speaker 10 (34:49):
Man, I mean I think just kind of the whole
all all the games. I think you obviously think about
Freddy's home run Game one, where if he doesn't do that,
you know, the series might feel totally different. And but yeah,
I think just Game five being down five or six
runs early, and then to come back like that obviously
against a good a good starter, a good bullpen, and
(35:12):
just kind of that's what we were apprecing about going
into the playoffs was let's let's have a dog fight
that we get down early, let's fight our ass off
every ad, bad, every pitch and try to win it.
And I think that just kind of showed, you know,
what we were trying to do, and we accomplish that,
and then to do it and and win the World Series.
Obviously that Game two is is cool. So I mean
(35:33):
there's a lot of moments, but I think just overall,
the daily, every pitch, everyone's in it with each other,
that kind of fight, you know, That's that's what sticks.
Speaker 4 (35:43):
Out for me. It's great to see you. You're all
grown up. Now you're the world champion in that clubhouse.
Speaker 10 (35:48):
I'm an old man. Now, I'm an old man. I'm
getting married. Is thanks David. I appreciate it, man.
Speaker 11 (35:54):
He can't wait to see you at the at the ceremony. Yeah,
you know the wedding invite.
Speaker 10 (36:01):
Still waiting, Yeah, Matt, Yeah, I think he got lost
in the mail.
Speaker 4 (36:04):
Okay, sounds good. We'll leave it right there. Thanks Gavin,
Thanks David, appreciate it.

Martinez on the mound for the Reds ten and nine
with a four to fifty nine r ray. The thirty
five year old right hander made his major League debut
back in twenty fourteen with the Texas Rangers. After the
(37:25):
twenty seventeen he went to Japan for four seasons before
returning back to the States, pitching for the Reds in
twenty twenty three and over the Padres for twenty twenty
two and twenty twenty three, and now with the Reds
in his first season. Making his twenty six start this
season last time out, six innings, one run, two hits,
seven strikeouts that was in a no decision against the
Anaheim Angels. This is his third start thirteenth appearance against
(37:47):
the Dodgers in his career, he is four and one
with the one seventy six r Ray. Dodgers saw him
last month in Cincinnati, six innings, two runs, four hits,
seven strikeouts and a five to two Reds win Clayton
Kershaw on the Mount eight and two with a three
thirteen ERA going on four days rest. The thirty seven
year old left hander has been a workhorse this year,

making his seventeen start, making his fifth start in the
month of August, where he's four to oh.

Speaker 3 (38:18):
He's been fantastic last time out five and two thirty

It was win number two hundred and twenty of his
Hall of Fame career. He has now tied with former
Dodger great Jerry Royce for seventy eighth on the all
time wins list, one behind Max Scherzer and Joe Nikro.
In his career, he is seven to two of the

Blue all season long, lor Dodgers and the Cincinnati Reds
on this Tuesday night. Game two of this three games
set Clayton Kershaw on the mountain. The boys in Blue
play at home. It's important they have the right plan
to protect their house. They did it last night with
the shutout victory over the Reds. You need a game
plan too for your house. Create a wildfire action plan,
(39:30):
Select a predetermined meeting point outside your home, and create
a family communication plan. Know your escape routes and practice them.
Put together to go back with all the essentials your
family may need for up to four days or more.
Carry a fire extinguishing your car. Hot exhaust pipes and
mufflers can start fire, so avoid parking your car on
dry grass. For more about these tips and to find
out others, visit fire dot CA dot gov. All right,
(39:53):
back out to the booth one final time before first
pitch Tim Nevertrick Monday, Guys, thanks again Tim.
Speaker 6 (39:58):
Tonight, the Dodgers look to win again against the Reds.
They've won three out of four so far this season,
to look for four out of five. Clayton Kershaw against
Nick Martinez. For Kershaw, the slider's always been the key,
but really the key is for the Dodgers to score
four runs for him when he's in the game. We
update you on this each time he pitches. The number
is still ridiculous. When the Dodgers score four and more
(40:21):
runs for him, his record is one hundred and fifty
seven and three.
Speaker 2 (40:25):
Yeah, and that's not a misprint, folks, that's legit. And
for Clayton Kershaw, he's making careers starting number four hundred
and forty six in his great career, looking for his
two hundred and twenty first victory. And for Dave Roberts
summed it up best, this is Clayton Kershaw had just
been aggressive, he's been very much on task and when
he's gotten the head of the counts this year just
a one ninety four batting average against him.
Speaker 6 (40:47):
And for Nick Martinez, he'll make us twenty ninth, the
parents twenty sixth start He had spent some time in
the bullpen, but when Nick Lodolo went out, Martinez went
back in the rotation. Lodolo expected to return tomorrow. Martinez
could be headed back to the pen. This could be
his last start of the regular season, but he's ten
and nine and the Dodgers hoping to take care of
(41:08):
business against Nick Martinez. Martinez against Kershawn. That's the pitching
matchup as the Dodgers take on the Reds here tonight
in Game two.
Speaker 3 (41:15):
Tim all right, thank you guys again. The big news Now,
it's just about twenty minutes ago. Alex Vessia going on
the injured list with a right oblique injury retroactive to
over the weekend in San Diego.
Speaker 1 (41:26):
Haven't seen in a few days.
Speaker 3 (41:28):
Dodgers will need the rest of the bullpen to step
it up for the significant future here going into October.
Oblique injury for Alex Vesia. I'll have to go on
without him.
Speaker 1 (41:38):
Tonight.
