Speaker 1 (00:41):
Tim Kas Hi, everybody, and welcome in to my Wrongo Casino.
Dodgers on Deck, your official Dodger pregame show for your
world champion Los Angeles Dodgers, who sit alone atop the NLS,
first place atop the division at sixty five and forty
eight overall on the year. The Dodgers back home on

(01:02):
this home stand game two. There's three game set against
the Saint Louis Cardinals, and tonight, Emmitt Shean on the mound,
first pitch of the ravine on Hello, Kitty Cross body
Bag Giveaway night is coming up at seven ten. Coming
up over the next hour here on Morongo Casino, Dodgers
on Deck, you get to hear from the Dodger manager

(01:23):
Dave Roberts. We will hear from David Vase with all
the latest. We're gonna go one on one within no
mar Garciaparra. We'll preview this pitching match up. We got
your Dodgers magical moment, the latest on the Dodgers injury news.
Shortly we'll visit with Sports and at LA's Kirsten Watson,
and in just a few minutes we head out to
the Gallpin Motors broadcast booth with Tim Neffett and Rick

(01:45):
monday Well. Last night offense was at a premium for
the Dodgers as Tyler Glass Now did his part. The
big right hander seven innings, one run, three hit, struck
out seven along the way through ae hundred and one
pitches and kept the Dodgers in the game, giving up
just that one run a Mason Win a solo home
run in the second, the only damage done against Tyler

(02:08):
Glass Now. He did his part. Unfortunately, the Dodgers offense
really struggled against sunny Gray and the Cardinals bullpen. The
lone offense came in the bottom half of the fourth
inning from Freddy Freeman.

Speaker 2 (02:20):
Physically, I'm trying to figure out how that worked.

Speaker 6 (02:22):
Two oh is swinging on in drill deep to right
field back it goes.

Speaker 7 (02:26):
This ball is god.

Speaker 1 (02:28):
It's a home run.

Speaker 5 (02:29):
For Freddie Freeman.

Speaker 6 (02:30):
He tis the game with his thirteenth home run of
the year, a towering fly ball into the pavilion in
right field. And Freddy Freeman has now reached base in
twenty straight ball games and he's tying.

Speaker 5 (02:46):
It up at a run apiece.

Speaker 1 (02:48):
That's the top tier play of the game, brought to
you by RCO quality, top tier gas for unless Freddie
Freeman goes deep his thirteenth home run of the season
RBI number sixty one. Unfortunately, the Dodgers' offense didn't do
much the rest of the game, just two hits. The
only other run they got Andy Pajaz RBI ground out
that actually tied the game in the eighth inning. At

(03:08):
the top of the ninth though, brock Stewart, making his
Dodger Stadium return, he got into some trouble though soft
contact back to back base hits. Then later in the inning,
two to on, two out for the pinch hitter, Joel Pozo.

Speaker 6 (03:23):
They're a pinch hitter. You start with a two to
zero count. Now you're looking at your chops. An Stewart
trying to come back here two ozer pitches flared in
the right field of base hit in the score is Hampson,
rounding second and heading for third is Newt Bar, and
the Cardinals have taken a three to two lead.

Speaker 1 (03:42):
Oh, Joel Pozo with the single, so ride gives the
Cardinals the lead. The Dodgers in the bottom of the
ninth inning had a chance show Hey Otani a leadoff single.
Then Mookie Betts hits a blooper down the right field line,
but Lars nowpark Arms, running in from right field makes
it a miss, gazing diving catch to rob Mookie of

(04:03):
extra bases. Two batters later, Will Smith walk Dodgers had
something going two on, two out, However, Max Munsey would
line out to new Bar and right field. The ballgame over.
Cardinals beat the Dodgers three to two. Both starting pitchers
get nothing for their efforts. Both pitched seven innings. Sonny Gray, Tyler,
glasnew combined fifteen strikeouts, but neither factor in the decision.

(04:27):
Brock Stewart takes the loss for the Dodgers, who with
the loss faul to sixty five and forty eight thirty
five at twenty two at home at Dodger Stadium this year.
They look to bounce back tonight, game two of this
three game set with the Cardinals. Emmitt Sheen on the
mound first pitch at seven to ten, and with more
we head out to the Galpum Motors broadcast booth as
we welcome him, Tien Neffett and Rick Monday.

Speaker 6 (04:47):
Guys, Tim, thank you very much, beautiful night for a
ballgame here at Dodgers Stadium. Game two of this three
game set. Dodgers looking to bounce back after a lackluster
offensive performance last night, producing only three hits and two
runs and a three to two loss to the Cardinals.
Tyler Glaisnow pitched very well deserved a better fate, allowing

(05:08):
only three hits over seven innings, striking out seven, but
Sonny Gray matched him and then some with a seven
inning performance, allowing only one hit. It was a home
run to Freddy Freeman, and he struck out eight in
the game. So tonight the Dodgers looked to even things up.
Emmett she And on the mound of two and two
and he will oppose Miles Michaelis for the Cardinals.

Speaker 2 (05:29):
Well, start with the positive and you touched upon it
with Tyler glasnow going to seven innings, just the one
run on the three hits, and he was just terrific
in last night's ball game. That's a carryover and very
positive signs for the six foot eight right handed. The
other part, too, is you start to look at Freddy Freeman.
He's been looking like a one man wrecking crew if
you will. Now twenty consecutive games he's been on base,

(05:52):
had the home run in the fourth inning and last
night's ball game to help tie the game, and then
Nattye Pahz with the RBI infield out in the eight
and for this Dodger ball club and disappointing loss, no
question about it. But if you look at the last
ten games, you can see kind of an imbalance. First
of all, from an offensive standpoint, Dodgers a bit collectively
in those ten games, just two thirty five. Well, their

(06:14):
earned ren average collectively is two point six to two.
So the pitching has been right on the money. But
as you're saying, coming up short offensively now.

Speaker 6 (06:23):
Well, speaking of pitching, it was a big day at
the ballpark pitching wise, this afternoon. Roki Sasaki was here.
He threw a bullpen. He's gonna throw to live hitters
three innings in a simulated game on Friday. They've added
a two seamer to Brokie's repertoire, so he'll have the
sinker to offset the four seam fastball. That's something he's
been working on and again making his way back. He

(06:46):
met with the press today said he's completely paying free
and that he is intended to pitch this season.

Speaker 2 (06:52):
Yeah, that's great news and the belief that, look, if
you add another dimension to a fastball, that's very good.
We saw him in fact, his first outing this year
the top one hundred miles an hour. He doesn't have
to throw at the century mark. But adding that little
sinker is going to help induce at times when he
really needs it, a ground ball, because that ball will

(07:13):
have movement a little bit more difficult for hitters. And
this is about confidence and Dave Roberts addressing the meeting
as his look now, Sazaki is beginning to believe what
the Dodger has been giving is information. And I think
it's only natural I tell you something that you don't
have the experience to play here. You have to feel
your way through. At the other thing, I've talked about many,
many times, who can you trust who you relate to?

(07:37):
And now there's a good conversation that's going on.

Speaker 6 (07:40):
Also, Tanner Scott and Michael Kopek were here and throwing
bullpens today, so they're on their way back. And certainly,
as Dave Roberts had pointed out, reinforcements seemed to be
on the way in the pen.

Speaker 2 (07:52):
Yeah, and it's still a mystery if we're talking about
offense from Mookie Benz. He had a ball taken away
from him last night, really the catch and maybe the
catch of the series, if not of the month. And
we're in the early part of August right now, and
that was with Lars Nootbar making a diving catch in
the ball. Did Mookie Betts hit down the right field
line with after that leadoff base hit by show Hey Otani.

(08:15):
Otani represented what could have been the tying run. And
if the ball is not caught, you're talking about the
possibility of the tying run scoring and BET's either at
sacond or third. Just a terrific play. But for Mookie Bets,
in the overall scope of things, since the tenth of June,
he's hitting just one seventy three. At what point will
that turn around?

Speaker 6 (08:34):
We'll find out if it happens tonight against Miles Michaelis.
Michael Is six and eight for the Cardinals against MTT
she and two and two for the Dodgers.

Speaker 1 (08:42):
Tim all right, thank you guys, as we cut you
down the first pitch. Dodger fans, get your game day
meal on at Shaky's Pizza Parlor or your Shaky's Pizza
chick in at Mojo's right now at Shaky's dot Com.
Coming up here on Morongo Casino, Dodgers on deck, you're
gonna hear from the manager, Dave Roberts, David Mass He
goes on on one with no more Garcia Para. We'll

(09:03):
check you out the course with DV throughout the hour.
We'll die deeper to this pitching matchup. But up next
you're Tani Rewind and we'll hear from Kirsten to Watson
Sports at LA. That's all coming up as we lead
you up on Hello Kenny Night at at Dodger Stadium
Dodger Cardinals. First pitch of seven ten. They should be
with us. I'm Tim kase Is, the world champion Los

(09:23):
Angeles Dodgers Audio Network.

Speaker 3 (09:29):
This is Wrongo Casino Dodgers Hunt game.

Speaker 4 (09:33):
On your home for La Dodgers Faseball.

Speaker 1 (09:37):
It's the Dodgers and the Saint Louis Cardinals on this
Tuesday night image. She and Miles Michael Is the pitching matchup.
First pitch coming up at seven ten.

Speaker 4 (09:46):
This is the Otani rewatch.

Speaker 6 (09:49):
And he will face Otani left on left here to
start the bottom of the ninth inning of a one
run game, Otani Swain Honey Peltzer to the gap and
right center pail for a pay chef. Otani's gonna turn
first and he'll stop. He'll head back to the bag
with a leadoff single and the Dodgers have the tying
run aboard.

Speaker 1 (10:07):
With nobody else showy Otani last night one for four,
a couple of strikeouts let off the ninth inning with
a single, However, could not score as the Dodgers had
the runners on tye and run go ahead winning run
on base as well. In the bottom of the ninth inning,
but could not get that hit to prevail. Cardinals win
it three to two.

Speaker 3 (10:26):
This is Kirston's corner with Kirston Watson.

Speaker 1 (10:31):
Hey Kirson now joins us from Dodgers staty and brought
to my Cars for Kids. Ready to donate that old car?
Call eight seven seven Cars for Kids right now Brentley
Agents standing by to take your donation. That's Cars with
the K to donate your car today, Kirston has been
a busy day in the Dodgers' bullpen as some arms
are starting to get built up. They really are.

Speaker 8 (10:53):
So Rokie Sasaki through a bullpen today, Tanner Scott as
well as Michael Kopek. So these are guys and know
we've been talking about the trade deadline. You know, of
course they got Brock Stewart over. But with all the
guys who were on the injured list right now, when
they return it's almost like just getting more reinforcements, getting
key arms, whether it's back to the rotation, back to
the bullpen. So these guys are all progressing just really

(11:15):
well right now. So for Tanner and Michael, they still
have a few more bullpens. Dave Roberts was saying today
before they would be starting a rehab assignment and facing
hitters things like that. But for Roki Sasaki, he's now
already faced hitters twice and this bullpen today he was
actually throwing a two seamer, and so Dave was saying,
he believes that that probably came from one the pitching coaches,

(11:38):
but also probably seeing Shohey of Tani use it and
how effective it can be just against big league hitters.
So he's continuing to really evolve right now. So he's
got one more live VP in which he'll throw three
innings and then he could be going out on his
rehab assignment. Of course, they do want to get him
fully built up, but he is just another arm that

(11:58):
they are expecting to return this year and hopefully could
be really viable, whether it's in September and in this
postseason run.

Speaker 1 (12:05):
Dodger's rotation has been lengthened out now as six starters,
with Image she and being that sixth guy going tonight.
We'll see show Hey Otani tomorrow. But what does this
rotation look like? Maybe the next spin around.

Speaker 8 (12:18):
Yeah, so the next time around it's going to be
the same as this one. It's gonna be a six
man rotation. But Dave was saying that after this next
round we could be seeing just potentially some changes, because
of course we're gonna have sho Heyo Tani, who's now
after tomorrow's outing in which he throws four innings, he
could then be going to five innings and the next two.
So when you have him at five innings and you

(12:39):
take into consideration some of the off days things like that,
it might make sense to go back to a five day,
and then you'd have someone like Emmitch and of course
available to take multiple innings out of the bullpen. But
then you also have the return, hopefully of Roki Sasaki,
and right now they are building him up as a starter,
so it could be kind of a six man, then
maybe a go back to a five man for two weeks,
and then back to a six man on Rokie turns it.

(13:01):
We'll kind of be seeing how things play out. But
Dave was pretty adamant that, you know, they kind of
just want to take it week by week, and luckily
with a player like Emmitt Chan who can and has
experience of whether it's in the bullpen piggyback, excuse me,
in the rotation or piggybacking in the bullpen. He's been
excellent in both, so having that has been huge.

Speaker 1 (13:20):
Dodgers getting healthy at the right time. The trade deadline
is coming gone, and it's almost like they're making more
trays as these guys get healthy and rejoin this roster. Kirsten,
we appreciate it still to come here. On Moroco Casino
Dodgers on Deck, we'll hear from David vat day he'll
go one on one with no my Garci how far
that's coming up? It just a little bit, but up
next we'll get you an injury report and we hear
from the manager himself, Dave Roberts. It's the Dodgers and

pitch coming up at seventen.

Speaker 4 (14:16):
It's the LA Dodgers Injury Report.

Speaker 1 (14:20):
Presented by UCLA Healthy, official medical partner of the Los
Angeles Dodgers. You heard curious and giving an update. Tanner
Scott throwing a bullpen session, Rookie Sasaki throwing as well.
Michael Kopek is throwing all positive news for the Dodgers.
Kirby Yates on the il keeky hearing Nandez Well, we'll
find out if he actually returns in twenty twenty five.
Let's head back out to Dodger Stadium as we check

(14:40):
out with the Dodger Skipper.

Speaker 5 (14:41):
Anything else?

Speaker 7 (14:42):
Dave questions for Dave.

Speaker 4 (14:44):
Dave, can you just describe Dave?

Speaker 1 (14:46):
Can you talk about the pressure in.

Speaker 4 (14:48):
The dugouts with Dave Roberts.

Speaker 8 (14:51):
We just spoke with Broking, you know he as.

Speaker 4 (14:54):
Well as the Skinner Scott fields in bulgens today.

Speaker 8 (14:57):
How are you just seeing of those guys for grass
for you.

Speaker 3 (14:59):
To get out us on the powers.

Speaker 4 (15:01):
Take away out there moving.

Speaker 9 (15:03):
I think we're all heading in the right direction. Kope
threw one as well. So today it was a busy
day you know, on the pitching side, you know, guys
are progressing. I think I'm sure you guys kind of
heard from Roki that kind of understanding, you know, the
American game and where his body was at, and I

(15:24):
think that really encouraged that he took something from the
experience to build on going forward. And yeah, just the
other guys kind of progressing and we got some reinforcements coming.
But I but I think that right now on the
pitching side, I love where our pitching is at the

(15:44):
depth of it, the floor, all that good stuff.

Speaker 2 (15:47):
It's going today.

Speaker 8 (15:48):
Does this mean that you go and give a stake
moving forward with a sixmanorentation or is this.

Speaker 4 (15:52):
A spot startup seuch for him?

Speaker 9 (15:54):
I think it's going to be another turn of this
and then we'll go from there.

Speaker 4 (15:59):
Taking Yeah, are you really coming down to start? You
still trying to decide what his.

Speaker 9 (16:06):
Role is going to reci I think that I think
you know, sitting here right now, I think obviously he
h is going to do a three inning situation this
weekend and then go out and build up because obviously
he's a starter. We see him as that. You just

(16:27):
don't know what's going to happen with with starting pitching.
So I think right now it's just more of just
continuing to build him up, see how it looks, and
then you know, if there's a different conversation needs to
be had later. But right now we'll see him as
a starter.

Speaker 4 (16:41):
Recently, especially Brookie when he gets back ronch.

Speaker 8 (16:44):
A big well.

Speaker 9 (16:46):
I think that you can expect, you know, I think
that two things is, you know, the performance side is
one kind of ask, and as far as the innings
and expectations, so you know, where you're on the calendar.
It depends on, you know, how his progression's going, which

(17:08):
would answer the question of how far along he's built up,
you know, three, four or five innings, six innings. But
I do think that on the other side is on
the performance side, I just think that we're gonna I'm
expecting to see pounding of the strike zone, conviction behind
the throws, and just a better performer, just learning from

(17:31):
from the first you know month this season.

Speaker 1 (17:34):
All right, there's a manager. Dave Roberts is his thoughts
on this rotation. We went forward as guys like Rookie
Soasaki trending in the right direction, we continue here. I'm
Moronco Casino, Dodgers on Deck. We'll check in with David
Vase lead you up to first pitch on this Tuesday
night Dodgers and Cardinals. I'm Tim Kase, is the world
champion Los Angeles Dodgers Audio Network.

Speaker 1 (18:05):
Dodgers and Cardinals, Game two of the three games set
from the Ravine Imagian on the Mount. First pitch coming up.

Speaker 4 (18:10):
At joining Tim Kats on Dodgers on Deck.

Speaker 5 (18:16):
I accept everybody for who they are.

Speaker 4 (18:17):
This is Dodger insider David ba.

Speaker 1 (18:21):
All right, David. Last night we saw the return of
Max Munsey from the bone bruise and his knee. Now
that he's got a game underneath his belt here at
the major league level. How's he filmed today?

Speaker 7 (18:31):
Yeah, a little sore, but happy to be back. I
was talking to him before he started batting practice. He
didn't do any ground ball work at third base today.
That just shows you how he's kind of easing back
into the preparation after missing a month of action. But
he said the intensity as you can imagine playing in
front of a minor league crowd at Oklahoma City just

(18:53):
doesn't match the intensity of a major league game playing
at Dodgers Stadium, so it's understandable. But his left knee
responded well when he woke up today. He's ready to go.
As you know, Tim, He's at third base tonight and
young Alex Freeland making his first start at second base
this season at Dodgers Stadium or at Oklahoma City.

Speaker 1 (19:13):
Yeah, he makes the move over to second base. Now,
David in the minor leagues, he came up as a
shore stop out of Central Florida just recently in the
last year this season actually, for the most part, he's
been playing at third base. Now at second base. When
did this happen?

Speaker 5 (19:28):
Yeah, he hasn't done it before.

Speaker 7 (19:29):
Back when the Dodgers were in Tampa, Florida, the last
day of that series, they let him know, Hey, tonight,
which is Tuesday, you're gonna start at second base, so
they started giving him ground balls at second base.

Speaker 5 (19:43):
They did it again yesterday.

Speaker 7 (19:45):
He was working out with Hayesong Kim and that's the
taste he's gotten.

Speaker 5 (19:50):
But he's a baseball rat.

Speaker 7 (19:52):
I've described him that way because teammates have described him
that way, he feels like he's confident enough to play there.
And here's something interesting to note, Tim. I've mentioned about
Alex Freeland having a club right foot when he was born.
He's had multiple surgeries on that foot. He has two
different size shoes because of the club right foot. The

(20:14):
club right foot, his right foot shoe is smaller than
his left foot shoe. His left is a size eleven,
his right is a size ten.

Speaker 1 (20:25):
Interesting. David is brought to you by the twenty twenty
five four one to fifty from California's best selling truck
Ran this time to see you Ford in a new light,
Ford for America From America, Dalton Rushing gets the start
behind the plate tonight, David. He has struggled a little
bit right.

Speaker 7 (20:41):
Now, offensively, striking out way too much, and he's finding
out that it's not as easy as people make it
seen to play just twice a week as a backup catcher.
First time ever in his professional career he has played
this lead amount of games.

Speaker 5 (21:01):
Two games a week. He was an everyday guy.

Speaker 7 (21:03):
That's an adjustment and he's putting a lot of pressure
on himself at the plate. And he did point out
to me that an all star catcher started out this way,
and cal Rawley came up as a backup catcher, and
three years later he's cal Rawley now. And Dalton Rushing
needed some extra help today, Tim, he asked for the

(21:25):
dead fish handshake, so I cooperated. I gave Dalton Rushing
the dead fish handshake. So we'll see if that works.

Speaker 1 (21:32):
Desperate times call for desperate measures.

Speaker 4 (21:35):
This is a kay.

Speaker 5 (21:36):
They always come crawling back.

Speaker 1 (21:38):
Indeed they do, David, Indeed they do. All right, we'll

Well, they sit him down, and that's kind of the story.
They're trying to keep him as fresh as possible. So
for Dalton Rushing, he'll be behind the plate doing the catching,
banning the number nine spot, and Alice Freeland is going
to be at second basin. We understand Freeland tomorrow will
be at third months he's to back games. And then
as we see Dave robertson the Dodgers when they handled
a player coming off the injured list, play a couple

(25:07):
of games and then pulled them back just to let
the body kind of settle down and be able to
stay strong. This is now about management because we're in
the month of August and the Dodgers start today with
the three game lead in front of San Diego, and
we'll find out what happens that. I think the big
question is going to be what about Mookie Bentz. Over
the last twenty one all eyes are upon him. I

(25:28):
know that you trying to get people to encourage Mooki Bentz,
and it worked when he came up to home plate
the first and bat last night. As you were asking
people to do on social media and on your radio
spots as well, Hey look, let MOOKI know that you're
behind him, and people did stand and they did a
plot and it may have been a different story. Bence's

(25:49):
over his last twenty one, but he was robbed of
an extra base hit last night. I thought that the
play maybe the play of the month already. That was
by Lars Neubar who made that diving catch near the
out line and right field in the ninth inning. After show,
Hey Otani had the lead off single in that ninth
inning and Otani represented the tying run. So you know,

(26:11):
this is a game of inches sometimes, but a terrific
catch turned away. But we'll see about Betts. It's been
a struggle for Mookie, it.

Speaker 7 (26:17):
Really has been. And he said it's now in God's hands.
That's not what you want to hear from a player.

Speaker 2 (26:22):
No, Well, if you have strong beliefs absolutely on that
end of it, we all go full circle. But this
is about Mooky Betts at home plate, and when you're
at home plate, yes, it's a team sport, but when
you're at home plate all alone, it's one against one,
you against the pitcher. You also got the catcher there
as well, and some guys out in front of you

(26:43):
with gloves that can catch it. But for Betts, this
has been a struggle and it's the first time he
has ever struggled to this particular depth.

Speaker 7 (26:51):
And rick I feel it's unfair just to point the
finger at Mookie Betts for the toddlers offensive inefficiencies.

Speaker 2 (26:57):
And I'm glad you brought that up, because if we
start to look at the last ten games, so the
Dodgers have split their five and five in the last ten,
the pitching era collectively is a good one at two
point six to two, but the team batting average is
well below what they've hit this year. It's only two
thirty five and if you look overall, the Dodgers have
hit much better than that. They have the third highest

(27:19):
batting average of any team in Major League Baseball, but
not over the last ten games.

Speaker 7 (27:24):
And Oscar hernandezrick I just want to hold on to something.
And last night he had a leadoff double in the
eighth inning. Am I trying to find anything that will
show us signs that ta Oscar is coming out of
his slump since May first?

Speaker 2 (27:37):
Well, hopefully, And we're going to find out a little
bit more tonight because michaelis who's going to pitch for
the Saint Louis Cardinals. And we know that Taskar's had
difficulty with a slider this year.

Speaker 4 (27:48):
Right.

Speaker 2 (27:49):
Well, for Michaelis, he throws breaking pitches forty four percent
of the time. What do you expect that Tascar Hernanez
make it may be getting along with everybody else tonight
with Michaelis.

Speaker 6 (27:59):
Yeah.

Speaker 7 (28:00):
Max Munsey about his return last night, he said a
little bit sore, but obviously happy to be back. He
can actually help be selective tonight against Michaelis.

Speaker 2 (28:09):
Yep, Yeah, that would be the case left handed batters.
And we're going to be finding out, by the way
before we go away. Does the name Harold Arland mean
anything to you?

Speaker 5 (28:19):
It doesn't know bell should it?

Speaker 2 (28:21):
It should? It should for all of us on this
side of the ledger with microphones in front of it,
because it was on this date nineteen twenty one, it
was Harold Arland who became the first play by play
announcer in Major League Baseball. He did it with Pittsburgh
Pirates on radio station KDKA, and that was the first
ever broadcast of a Major League game on this date,

(28:44):
nineteen twenty one, and it was Harold Arland who did
the play by play.

Speaker 7 (28:48):
He definitely should be celebrated. Rick, thanks a lot for
bringing that to our attention. And KDKA, the legendary radio
station out there in Pittsburgh, you know all about that.

Speaker 2 (28:58):
Yeah, see you tomorrow, David.

Speaker 5 (28:59):
Okay, that's good. Well, you still got a game to call, Ran.

Speaker 2 (29:02):
Yeah, we're gonna lock the door, send it back to you.

Speaker 1 (29:05):

this pitching matchup. But up next we go high and tight.

Dodgers Cardinals. First pitch is seven ten. I'm Tim kase
is the world champion Los Angeles Dodgers Audio Network.

Speaker 4 (29:44):
As we were saying Yes.

Speaker 3 (29:46):
Is Marongo Casino Dodgers on deck on the official home

Speaker 1 (29:54):
Dodgers saying Cardinals, Hello, Kiddy night out at the Ravine image.

with the one ten first pitch. Dodgers Baseball is brought

Speaker 3 (30:14):
And now what will likely be vast fielding insults from
a Dodger.

Speaker 4 (30:18):
Player, It's an engagement of endearment. This is high and tight.

Speaker 7 (30:22):
Well, I'm joined by a man that only takes the
one ten freeway from the South Bay to Dodgers Stadium.
You won't see him anywhere else north or South, and
certainly not in my area. The grade one eight that
is two time batting champion and a champion of Sports
Net LA, the one and only Nomar Garciapara.

Speaker 5 (30:39):
Nomar, thanks a lot for the time. Appreciate it.

Speaker 10 (30:42):
I appreciate it, Dave. And you know what I would
go to your area. You just have never invited me
for dinner or anything like that, so don't blame me
for not going over there.

Speaker 5 (30:49):
I feel like you're the type of friend where I
have to come see you.

Speaker 10 (30:53):
That'd be nice, though, but you know I am by
the beach, so you know, as a friend, i'd say, listen,
why don't you come over here. The weather's nice, little
cool breeze, we can eat outside.

Speaker 7 (31:01):
Hey, that's the veteran attitude. You have to come to
me if you want help.

Speaker 10 (31:05):
I wasn't thinking that way. I was just thinking about surroundings.

Speaker 7 (31:08):
Hey, the valley's great, No Mark, you gotta get a
taste one day. But you're the hit doctor in my opinion,
you obviously are very cerebral about hitting offense, team offense,
individual offense. What do you see with this Dodger offense
right now in the last not even ten games, but
thirty forty games?

Speaker 10 (31:25):
You know, it's I know, it seems like collectively the
there's a lot of guys who are struggling or in
the slump, you know, obviously looking at Freddy Freeman him
coming out of it, you see show, hey Otani right now,
he's struggled a lot of swings and miss. I think
that's one of the things that I think is more
stubtling than anything, just the amount of swing and miss
by this offense. I think early on, even if they

(31:47):
may not have been scoring or we were even questioning
about this offense, remember early in the season, we're like, man,
the bottom part of the slide up, really you see
get going. The top part was carrying them and but
there was no bottom part. And I thought, Andy Pie
is when he really started going. It really lengthd in
the lineup really changed things, you know, Max months y two,

(32:07):
you know, and then he got started getting hot. That
started changing the combination of those. But I think the
swing and miss wasn't as much as it wasn't as prevalent,
Like they may not have been getting hits, but there
wasn't as much swing and miss as what we're seeing
right now, and more swing and miss maybe it's more amplified.
It's because you're seeing it more from the superstars than anything.

Speaker 3 (32:25):
You know.

Speaker 10 (32:26):
So Freddie Freeman obviously is gonna have a show. Hey,
there has been an awful lot. I think from a
mechanical standpoint with show, Hey, you know, I think I
could tell that he feels like he's not where he's
supposed to be. So we as hitters, we have a
tendency always when we're in a slump, like we're gonna
feel beat. So we are already maybe deciding before the pitchers,
before he even releases the ball, before we even see it.

(32:49):
And so I think his front side is clearing. I
think you have that feeling of being beat, so you
want to clear that front shoulder out. Your body naturally
instinctively says okay, I gotta I gotta get the to it,
so you fly open. And I think he's doing that.
So both his hips and his shoulder are flying open together.
This top half usually stays closed while his bottom half goes.

(33:10):
So I think that has it. So I think you
see a lot of these guys who are maybe later
swinging underneath it. It's that feeling right now and not
trusting that you can let the ball travel. You always
hear when guys you're doing well, Dave, don't you always
hear that term, I'm letting it get deep. I'm trusting
my hands, I'm letting the ball travel. That's because you
feel like you're in a good spot. You're not going
to feel beat by this picture on his fastball, and

(33:31):
you can wait for it to maybe when they release it,
to maybe make your decision before trying to make a
decision before that.

Speaker 7 (33:37):
No Mar, Garciapara, No Mar. Everybody seems to have a
solution for Mooki Betts. What do you see from Mooki.
This is not a month, this is not two months,
it's a whole season.

Speaker 6 (33:47):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (33:47):
Well, if you.

Speaker 10 (33:47):
Watch our show, and there's a lot of times you
hold Jerry and myself we talk about the top hand
an awful lot, and we always believe when Mooki Betts
is going right, that top hand really comes into play.
And the reason why we talk about the top hand
so much is a lot of times that top hand
when you're holding your bat helps you keep the barrel

(34:09):
above the ball almost as long as possible. You think
about keeping that barrel above the ball, and then it
eventually falls into the hitting zone as you're swinging through.
You know, old school, when everybody's like, oh, you swing
down on the ball on your tad like, oh, they're
thinking about swinging down, you don't swing down on the ball. Well,
the reason that guys old school would think about swinging
down is you know, you're really trying to think about

(34:30):
keeping the barrel above your hands as long as possible.
Tony Winn, for example, would always talk about knob to
the ball. He was a big knob to the ball, right. Well,
if you think about that, if you took the knob
toward the ball, where the balls down below your you know,
going toward your waist or wherever it is, it's below
your hands when they start, for example. But as you
put that knob to the ball, where's the barrel, the
barrel still above your hands. So he might have been

(34:53):
maybe bottom hand dominant with thinking that bottom hand taking
the knob to the ball to keep the barrel above
the hands. Some people are doing that, But then I
he use my top hand a lot, so I thought
top hand to keep my barrel above my hands as
long as possible and then fire it through. Mookie Betts
has a tendency where that barrel lags early on. As
he's starting to swing, it starts going down it's already underneath.
So you see a lot of balls where he's underneath.

(35:15):
When he swings the misses or when he does make contact,
it's that pop up or honestly, it's a flare to
right field. You don't see the back spin going to
right field. You see that slice to right field. We
actually even saw it yesterday when Lars made that amazing
play on it. That was what we call a flare
or the spin on the ball because he was underneath
the ball, or he's almost to the side of the

(35:36):
ball as he's making contact, because that barrel's dropping way
too early.

Speaker 7 (35:39):
I'm a big believer the Dodgers have a great resource
here before every home game that he's working on sports
in at LA, he's in a tie, he's in a
dress shirt.

Speaker 5 (35:48):
He's always here.

Speaker 7 (35:49):
No Mar garciapara, No Mar, thanks a lot for the time,
and man part four five six is coming up soon.

Speaker 10 (35:56):
You're the best, Dave.

Speaker 4 (35:57):

Speaker 7 (35:58):

President I here Southern California Toyota Dealers work hard and
play hard in a New Tacoma with an I Force
turbo charged engine. Get the truck built for the bowlds.
He here Toyota Dealers today, they make it easy. Miles
michaelis on the mounds six and eight three twenty erra
thirty six year old right hander, eleventh season in the
Big Leagu's also spent three years in Japan. Eight season

(37:16):
now with the Cardinals, making his twenty second start of
the season, looking for his first road win. Since May.
Last time out, six innings, two runs, five hits, five strikeouts,
and a loss to the Marlins, making his seventh career start,
tenth appearance against the Dodgers. All seven starts have been
as a member of the Cardinals, three relief appearances with
the Padres. He has one career win against the Dodgers.
That was in April of twenty nineteen at Busch Stadium

(37:38):
in a four to three victory. He went six innians,
allowing three runs. He serrated home runs in each of
his last four starts against the Dodgers, with two home
runs in each of his last two starts, so he
can give up the long ball. Has lost his last
four decisions, with a no decision against the Dodgers back
in twenty twenty three. He lost both of his two
career starts at Dodgers Stadium. Emmett on the mound for

(38:01):
the Dodgers. Finally healthy and really been big for this
Dodgers team. Twenty five year old right hander two and
two with a three sixty eer. He missed all of
last year with Tommy John surgery. Was slow played coming
out of spring training, making sure he was healthy and
that arm was good to go making his fifth start
this year, his seventh appearance. Remember, he's been an opener,

(38:23):
he has been a starter. He has been in relief,
piggybacking show hey Otani. His last time out, which was
in Cincinnati, he actually got tagged with the loss. That
was three and two third innings that he pitched to
give up three runs on one hit, struck out five,
but walked three in a loss to the Reds at
Great American Ballpark. That was in relief. He's getting his
start tonight and the Dodgers need him to get some

(38:44):
big innings against the Saint Louis Cardinals offense. It's game
two of this three game set, and she and Miles
Michaelis on the mound were fifteen minutes away for first
pitch keys to the game. Our next of Tim Kasi

Speaker 4 (39:01):
This is Marongo Casino Dodgers on Tap on your home

Speaker 1 (39:08):
All Season Law Dodgers and Cardinals. Game two of the
three games set. They'll wrap things up tomorrow at one.
Ted was sho Heyo Tani on the mount on his
ring day and then Shean goes tonight against Myles Michaels.
When the Boys in Blue play at home, it's important
they have the right plan to protect their house. The
same applies to your home. You gotta protect it. Always
have a plan and follow fire safety tips before setting

(39:29):
up a campfire. Make sure you get a permit from
CalFire and check local restrictions. Know how to properly set
up a campfire and extinguish it using the drownster and
fuel method. Always have a water supply and shovel near
by to extinguish your campfire. Properly maintain car breaks so
there's no metal to metal contact that's skidding on the
ground that could use and cause a spark to well
get a fire going. That's for more of these tips

(39:50):
and to find out others, visit fire dot ca A
dot CoV. All right, let's go back out to the
booth one final time before first pitch. Tim Neverard Rick Monday, Guys.

Speaker 6 (39:58):
Tim, thanks again. We count down to the first pitch
Dodgers and Cardinals Game two. Miles Michaelis and Emmett Shean.
One of the keys for im At Sheen is to
get his change up going. Opposition hitters are only one
for fourteen against that pitch and he has struck out
half of those guys.

Speaker 2 (40:14):
Yeah, and I think that that change up is a
good indicator to enhance his fastball as well, moving in
and around the strike zone. On top of that, for Michaelis,
if we look at June, his ERA was over six
and a half. He got a little bit better in
July in the five starts, but it's still over five
in that period of time. Dodgers where they go hunting
the first pitch. I say that because for Michaelis first

(40:38):
pitch strike seventy two percent of the time. That is
the highest of any Major League baseball pitcher. Will the
Dodgers take advantage of that and look forward early in
the county?

Speaker 6 (40:48):
Yeh, see if they can jump on him early in
the game too. A six forty three ERA in the
first inning twenty one innings pitched. He has allowed seven
home runs in the first inning this year. So we'll
see if the Dodgers jump on Miles michaelas early in
this ballgame. Dodgers at sixty five and forty eight, three
up on the Padres, Cardinals, twelve back in the Central

(41:08):
Division in fourth place, are even at fifty seven and
fifty seven Tim.

Speaker 1 (41:13):
All Right, Dodgers and the Cardinals. Next game two of
this three games set. Dodgers going to play three games
up on the San Diego Padres, who are in action
right now in Ararizona. Dodgers and Cardinals. First pitch is next.
Enjoyed everybody. I'm sim casing. This has been Morocco Casino
