(01:33):
He covers the Dodgers on a daily basic and his
thoughts on this Dodgers team here in the final two
plus weeks of the regular season. We got your Dodgers
magical moment. We'll hear from Buster Oldie from ESPN. In
at just a few minutes, we will check in with
Tim Neverde and Rick Monday out at the Gallpin Motors
Broadcast booth. Well, last night, the Dodgers kept the good
times rolling out at the Ravine as Emmett Shehen got
(01:54):
the mound and the right hander was really good. He
retired the first bat fifteen batters he faced until Kyle Carrols,
the son of former Dodger great Eric Carross, singled to
left to lead off the sixth. In Again the Dodgers
were flour with a no hitter. He would strike out
three or a strikeout nine, wall allowing just three hits
along the way. As immit Sheen was dealing, the Dodgers
(02:14):
offense went to work and the second Will Smith and
RBI scored on a wild pitch to give the Dodgers
a one to nothing lead. And then in the third inning,
Mookie Bets unloaded.
Speaker 7 (02:25):
Oh Tony leads at second, two ball, no strike count
to Bets and the pitch that had his swing on
a drill deep left center heading back.
Speaker 3 (02:34):
To the wall and a.
Speaker 7 (02:37):
Home run for Mooke his seventeenth of the year, a
two run shot and the Dodgers lead at three to nothing.
Poky Bets hit it over the home run seats up
into the pavilion. Oh what a shot by Bets. He
got a sinker that was left right down the middle.
Speaker 2 (02:57):
Two run home run for Mook.
Speaker 1 (03:00):
He that is the top tier play the game, brought
to by Arco Quality, top tier gas for less Dodgers
a three to nothing lead last night over the Rockies
emitted four to nothing on a solo home run from
Tascar Hernandez in the fourth. In the fifth show, Hey
O'tani with an RBI single to write Dodgers up five
to nothing. In the sixth inning again, that's when Kyle
Carros broke up the no hitter. He within score on
(03:22):
a Freeman RBI single in the top half of the
sixth inning, Dodgers up five to one. In the eighth inning,
the Dodgers flex their muscles again. First Freddie Freeman with
a solo home run four hundred and nine feet to
center field. Dodgers up six to one, and then it
was Tao.
Speaker 7 (03:38):
Tom Six runs on eight hits for the Dodgers, three
of those eight hits home runs, and this one hit
deep to left field.
Speaker 3 (03:46):
It is headed back to the wall.
Speaker 8 (03:48):
It is gone.
Speaker 7 (03:49):
A home run Taioscar Hernandez, his second of the night,
twenty third of the season. Taioscar hood And there's three
hits in.
Speaker 3 (04:01):
The ball game, two of them home.
Speaker 7 (04:03):
Runs, and the Dodgers now lead this ball game seven
to one.
Speaker 1 (04:08):
Dodgers up seven to one. They'd go on and win
it seven to two. They hit four home runs in
the game last night, two of them from tay Oscar Hernandez.
Image she and seven innings, one run, three hits, the
nine strikeouts. He would get the win. He's now six
and three. Hermand Marquez gets the loss. He falls to
three and thirteen. The Dodgers two games up in the division,
(04:30):
now at eighty one and sixty four, and tonight they
give the ball to Blake Snell as the Dodgers look
to make it four straight wins in a row and
close out this Colorado team with a sweep out at
the Ravine and with more We head out to the
Galvin Motors broadcast booth as we welcome in Tim Neffett
and Rick Monday.
Speaker 2 (04:47):
Guys, Tim, thanks very much.
Speaker 7 (04:49):
The Dodgers and Rockies play the final game with this
three games set in this brief three game homestand last night,
the Dodgers taking Game two seven to two, and now
lead this series two games and under a chance to
sweep tonight, with left hander Blake Snell on the mouths
Now has lost his last three decisions. He's never lost
four in a row in his career. He's three and
(05:09):
four with a three nineteen ERA. He'll go against another
left hander, Kyle Freeland, the Denver native who is four
and fourteen Freeland making his twenty eighth start tonight. Dodgers
begin the night two games on top of the Padres.
They're eighty one and sixty four and have won ten
of the last twelve against the Rockies. The Rockies, meantime,
(05:30):
continuing to flounder forty and one to oh five a
franchise record and losses. They are forty one games out
of first place and moe. Good news for the Dodgers tonight,
they get a familiar face back in the lineup. Tommy
Edmund is off the injured list. He'll start and play
center field.
Speaker 5 (05:46):
Yeah, and to get Edmund back in there, and the
switch hitter, he'll back from the right side against Freeland,
the lefty tonight. If we start to look at this
ball club now and having won three in a row
and the Dodgers back, I think they're really where they
needed to be, no question about it. Yes, they've got
some guys healthy and back off the injured list. But
what I'm referring to the base hits timely hitting. Oh
(06:09):
they had four home runs last night, but more importantly
than that coming up with some bass hits. The other part, too,
is what about the pitching and last night it was
Emitt Shean who went seven innings, one run, only three hits,
And over the bigger picture, we start to look at
this pitching staff. Now, the last four games, innings one
through five of those games, imposing teams have only two
(06:31):
hits and that's over sixty events. I mean, the pitching
has been terrific. The bullpen now stepping up. This is
a ball club that they're playing almost like they're angry
that they had that dry spell where they couldn't really
play the type of baseball that they're capable of playing.
Speaker 7 (06:46):
One guy who ended a dry spell last night tei
Oscar Hernandez. Two home runs on the night, now twenty
three on the year. He's batting in the middle of
the Dodger order, back in right field, but good to
see him getting back into the swing of things offensively.
Speaker 5 (07:00):
And Dave Roberts changing the lineup a little bit today.
Will Smith will move up to the three spot, Freddie
Freeman against the left he will drop down into four,
and then Tiascar Hernandez Paz will move to left field,
by the way, with Edman going to center field and
Kick hernana is starting at third base. I just get
the feeling that this Dodger ball club now, Tim was
seventeen games left on the schedule, only eight at home.
(07:22):
They're starting to understand fully what it means to have
really good at Betts. Dave Roberts was alluding to it
earlier today talking to the members of the media about, look,
this is a ball club now that is really rising
to the occasion and playing to the level that they
are really capable of playing.
Speaker 7 (07:40):
Top of the Oregon to get done. Now, Mookie Betts says,
really been back to the old Mookie Bets. Home run
and a double last night. He's been on base in
fifteen straight games. Sho hal Tani has been on base
in fifteen straight games as well, and he's hit well
against these Colorado Rockies. In fact, since he's become a Dodger,
he's hitting four O four four against the Rockies. So
(08:02):
he hopes to keep that in line tonight. Now. A
win for the Dodgers tonight would mean they tie a
National League record with their fifteenth consecutive winning season. That's
shared with the Cardinals from twenty eight to twenty two,
the nineteen ninety one to two thousand and five Braves Cardinals.
Again back in the thirties to the early fifties and
the Pirates going back to eighteen ninety nine to nineteen thirteen.
(08:26):
But it's a big distinction when you can have fifteen
consecutive winning.
Speaker 9 (08:30):
Season, but it is.
Speaker 5 (08:31):
It's amazing. And speaking of winning, the Dodgers have won
ten of the twelve played against the Rockies in five
and zero at Dodgers Stadium and going for the sweep
here tonight, then on the road tomorrow and they take
on the San Francisco Giants. That's going to be interesting.
Don't overlook the Rockies tonight. But the Giants stop and think.
The Dodgers have seven games left of the sixteen that'll
(08:52):
be remaining after tonight.
Speaker 7 (08:54):
Blake Snell starts for the Dodgers Kyle Freeland for the
Rockies in game three of there's three games Sep.
Speaker 10 (08:59):
Ten.
Speaker 1 (09:00):
All right, thank you guys, as we count you down
to first pitch, Dodger fans, get that game.
Speaker 2 (09:03):

I'm Tim Kas's World champion Los Angeles Dodgers Audio Network.
Speaker 6 (09:44):
This is Morongo Casino Dodgers Hunt game on your home
for LA.
Speaker 3 (09:50):
Dodgers Faceball.
Speaker 1 (09:52):
Dodgers and Rockies wrap up this three game set on
this Wednesday night. Blake SNeW Kyle frielan the pitching matchup.
First pitch set for seven tens. This is the Otani rewide.
Speaker 7 (10:04):
There goes Otani for second base. Pitches low for a
ball to throw is also short, and Otani steals his
eighteenth bag of the year. Otani looking up, Marquez deals
this ball's hit hard on the ground past Tolia in
the right field around thirdest pie. He will score and
the Dodgers lead at five or nothing. That ball was
(10:26):
absolutely smoked and Tolia just had no chance. He got
a glove near it, but the ball was hit so
hard it got passed him right away and out.
Speaker 1 (10:38):
Of the right field showy Otani won for three on
base twice, including o'lock. You heard the stolen base number
eighteen on the season, part of a Dodger seven to
win over the Rockies.
Speaker 6 (10:49):
This is Kirston's corner with Kirston Watson Day.
Speaker 1 (10:53):
Kirston Now Giants has brought to you by Cars for Kids.
Ready to donate that old car? Call eight seven to
seven Cars for Kids right now Brindley age and standing.
Speaker 2 (11:00):
By to take your's donation. That's Cars with a Kay
to donate your.
Speaker 1 (11:04):
Car today, Dodgers every day, somebody else returning yesterday, Max Munsey, Today, yourson,
it's the return of Tommy Tanks.
Speaker 11 (11:13):
Yes, Tommy Edmond is back in the lineup. He's gonna
be playing in center field. And with this ankle injury,
you know, while he was rehabbing, Dave Roberts was pretty
adamant that when his return came, he primarily was going
to be in the outfield. Dave originally had said that
it's one one of the needs for the team right now,
but two just how the ankle injury. It's an ankle
(11:33):
that he has dealt with in the past last year,
having sprained his ankle, having just kind of some mishaps
with that sprained ankle last year that made it take
longer for him to get back and healthy to For
him this year, it was a big focus of we
want him to be at one hundred percent so that
he can play the outfield. Yes, kick in at second
if need be, things like that, but that was kind
(11:53):
of the biggest focus. So for Tommy, he feels really good.
He's back, he feels healthy. Yes, he's gonna continue with
treatment in and making sure that you know, he's keeping
that ankle top of mind and healthy. But he had
some something he's thinking about in the box and outside
of sometimes that just that first step that's kind of
where he has to be like that. That was the
final check mark for him. But he feels good. He's
(12:16):
ready to get back out there, ready to be back
there for the what the most exciting and most important
time of the season.
Speaker 2 (12:22):
So he's ready.
Speaker 1 (12:23):
This Dodgers team, I know Tommy's coming back tonight. It's
only been one game with Maximuncie, but it sort of
feels like this is a team getting back on track
and the.
Speaker 2 (12:32):
Team we thought we'd see it does.
Speaker 11 (12:35):
It's the health component, it's also just how they're winning games,
how they are playing right now. You've got the top
of the order in sho Hey, Mookie and Freddie who
have all figured things out. You've got the starting pitching
that has been excellent. I mean the fact that we
saw five perfect innings from Emmit Cheen yesterday. The day
(12:57):
before that it was Tyler Glasnow throwing a no hitter
through seven. So we've been seeing such excellent starting pitching. Yes,
there's a few things with the bullpen trying to get
back on track. We've had positive outings from them the
last few days. So it's just been like, this is
what you expect when you see whether it's the lineup,
whether it's the rotation the bullpen, you expect these results
(13:19):
that we're seeing right now. So it finally feels like
things are coming together. Guys are showing up to work,
they're having that joy. Yes, of course they're working hard,
but they're just kind of like Finally the pieces are
all coming together, so Dave Roberts wants to see that continue.
They're going for the sweep against the Rockies tonight. That
would be huge for them and hopefully they can do
just that. But it does feel like with guys getting healthy,
(13:41):
things are getting right back on track right now.
Speaker 1 (13:43):
Yeah, guys getting healthy and guys getting on track like
tay Oscar Hernandez Kirsten.
Speaker 2 (13:47):
We appreciate it.
Speaker 1 (13:48):
We will check in with you after the game is
still to come here on Marongo Causino Dodgers on Deck.
We'll de Deepert of this pitcheat matchup. We'll check out
with Jack Harris of the La Times. We'll also hear
from Buster only from ESPN, but we get you an
injury report and we hear from the manager himself, Dave Roberts.
It's the Dodgers and the Rockies. First pitch coming up
at seven ten. I'm Tim Kasis, the world champion Los
(14:09):

Speaker 6 (14:13):

Speaker 1 (14:23):
Marongo Casino Dodgers on Deck continues on the Wednesday night.
As we walk up the first pitch Dodgers and the
Rockies Marongo Casino Resort in Spy a Grand Slam for
good Time. It's Blake Snell on the mountain, first pitch,
Shit seven ten.
Speaker 6 (14:38):
It's the LA Dodgers Injury Report presented by UCLA Healthy
Official Medical partner of the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Speaker 2 (14:45):
Dalton rushing on the IL with the right leg bone.
Speaker 1 (14:47):
Bruce Tommy Edmond is back activated off the injured list.
Speaker 2 (14:51):
That is great news. Brock Stewart on the IL.
Speaker 1 (14:54):
Rookie Sasaki on the IL, but he's headed back to
LA to talk with the Dodger front office and pitching
staf have coaches to see what is his plan and
what are they going to do with Rokie here in
September and maybe October. All right, let's head back out
to Dodger Stadium as we check out the Dodgers.
Speaker 3 (15:10):
GiB Dain the questions for Dave, Dave, can you just
describe Dave?
Speaker 2 (15:15):
Can you talk about the pressure in.
Speaker 3 (15:18):
The dugouts with Dave Roberts.
Speaker 10 (15:21):
Yeah, So Tommy being back is certainly a big boost
for us. You know, I think that being being back
the versatility center field play, second base play. I think
right now where we're at. Having the switch hitter obviously
(15:43):
is huge having him back kind of our line up,
our team looks more whole and just excited hap him back.
Speaker 11 (15:51):
Yeah, another few more that you're waiting to return. But
does it feel just with this group it's complete now
in your sort to steege just the level of play
that you want to see.
Speaker 6 (16:02):
Close out this regular season?
Speaker 10 (16:04):
Yes, Yeah, I think that we've all been waiting for,
you know, our guys to come back to health and
kind of see what we look like as a as
the ball club that we had all envisioned. And I
do like the you know, the intensity. Defensively, it's been
really good and the last few days, I think offensively,
(16:25):
I've seen some good things and just kind of how
we've kind of attacked each day. And obviously we've been
getting a lot of good starting pitching.
Speaker 13 (16:34):
Okay, and the last couples, how much of the shows
do you just kind of equate the hindsight with thest
of your listing versus things that.
Speaker 9 (16:41):
You have anyone want to see.
Speaker 10 (16:43):
It cleaned up here and over the last you know,
I think it's I think it's a combo obviously of
having you know, your guys I think that's one part
of it. But I think that, you know, we we've
kind of at certain times I thought we lost sight of,
you know, playing the game the way we're capable of playing.
So that's kind of you know, you know, it doesn't
(17:06):
really matter who we have on the roster, you know,
roster was standing how we've played. So but I do
think that presently, I think that the guys are engaged.
Speaker 2 (17:16):
All right, there's a manager, Dave Roberts.
Speaker 1 (17:18):
The team is engaged and trending in the right direction,
looking to win four in a row tonight with Blake
Snell on the mat. When we continue here on Dodgers
on Deck, we will check in with the LA Times
Jack Harris. Yes, he covers the Dodgers on a daily basis.
We'll see what he has to say about this Dodgers team.
So we lead up to first pitch from Dodger Stadium
on show. Hey o Tani Bobblehead Night. Yes, first pitch
(17:40):
at seven ten, I'm Tim Katsy's the world champion Los
Angeles Dodgers Audio Network.
Speaker 6 (17:46):
As we were saying, yes, it's Marongo Casino Dodgers on
Jack on the official home of La Dodgers Baseball.
Speaker 1 (17:57):
It's the Dodgers and Rockies on this Wednesday night fought
game of this three game series. Blake Snow on the
mount first pitch coming up at seven table dive deeper
into this pitching matchup coming up in just a little bit,
Buster Only will join David Vase.
Speaker 2 (18:09):
But a pleasure that has been a few minutes.
Speaker 1 (18:11):
But Jack Harris from the La Times he covers the
Dodgers on the daily basis. Jack, First off, this Dodgers
team looks a lot different than it did a week ago,
and they're still playing competition that's well below who they are.
What are you seeing that's been different in the way
the last three four games is Dodgers team's been playing.
Speaker 13 (18:29):
Yeah, I mean, I think it helps that this team,
in the lineup especially looks a lot closer to the
lineup the Dodgers.
Speaker 2 (18:35):
Were expecting and hoping to have this year.
Speaker 13 (18:37):
That starts with having Max Munsie back as somebody who
just gives the lineup length, provides another professional at bat.
But I think also just the you know, teen at
bats becomes such a big talking point around the club
over the last couple weeks, and I think you've seen it,
especially in last night's game. You go back to Monday
and Mookie Betts with the two run single. They're just
doing a little bit better capitalizing on chances moving base runners.
(18:59):
I mean, I even think that at that last night
that ta Oscar took the first one where he works
a wild pitch just by staying alive and he gets
the first run in. Those are the little things you're
seeing more of that I think have helped against Yes,
a team they should be beating, but they're at least
doing it in a way that looks a.
Speaker 3 (19:12):
Little bit better.
Speaker 1 (19:13):
Tommy edmund returns tonight in center field. What does he
need to do to get back on track to seventeen
games to go? Is there enough time for him to
get back to the Tommy edmands we saw last October?
Speaker 8 (19:24):
Do you think?
Speaker 13 (19:25):
You know, that's a good question. I think just his
presence being back helps for starters. You know he's in
center field tonight. It gives the outfield a different look.
You have Andy PAHs and left now obviously, you know,
filling out the outfield, getting.
Speaker 2 (19:38):
Production from the corner spots.
Speaker 13 (19:40):
With the way Michael Confordo has been swinging it, with
the way Taoskar Hernandez has slumped through the second half.
It's good to have another option out there. As far
as you know, coming to his bat, you saw for
so much of this year that ankle injury was really
limiting him. It got him out of his mechanics. Is
he going to go back to being the guy that
you know was a surprise power slugging threat at the
(20:00):
end of last year and the start of this year.
Speaker 2 (20:02):
Maybe not.
Speaker 13 (20:02):
But if he can go out there and again help
provide just another reliable at Matt, somebody who can understand
a situation, move a runner when he needs to help
spark a rally like that's a big ad for this
team to get, even if he's not looking like the
guy that won an NLCSMVP last year. So getting him
back is a big help. It gives them more options,
and I think it helps line the rest of the
lineup up too, in a way that looks a little
(20:23):
bit better than we've seen in the last couple months.
Speaker 1 (20:24):
Jack Harris of the La Times joining us here on
Dodgers on Deck as we leads up to first pitch
Dodgers in the Colorado Rockies. Jack final thing we saw
you post on next earlier at by Jack Harris, Rookie Sasaki.
He's heading back to Los Angeles after a couple starts
in TRIPLEA, Oklahoma City. Where does he fit into this
puzzle here late September and October.
Speaker 2 (20:46):
That's a good question.
Speaker 13 (20:47):
I think the Dodgers are happy that they can at
least consider him a possible puzzle piece at this moment.
You know, for so much of this year he just
did not look like the guy they were expecting to get.
They finally saw that version of him, and again this
past week or yesterday being able to hit one hundred,
mixing in kind of a new pitch, this little cutter
he had to go along with the sinker he's developed,
(21:08):
his splitter played a little bit more. All of that,
they hope, if it's consistent, could make him somebody that
when they get to the end of the season and
they're trying to figure out, probably in the bullpen, you know,
how to fill out some of those last spots, that
he could be a piece. So he's gonna fly here.
They're going to talk with him in the next couple
of days about what they want to do next. You know,
the easiest spot to fit him in would be in
(21:31):
the bullpen. There's going to be a question about how
comfortable he is with that if he can be as
effective back there. Dave Roberts said today that you know,
if they're going to be able to trust him to
even think about using him in a postseason role, they're
obviously going to have to see him at the big
league level have some success. So my guess is they're
going to try to find or at least figure out
if there's a way that they can get him a
couple outings at the big league level, maybe out of
(21:52):
the bullpen, maybe if they have an opening in the
rotation at some point in the next couple weeks. But again,
just the fact that he pitched at a level yesterday
to make this a conversation again is what they're happiest
with now and at least allows them to now have
a conversation about, Okay, this is somebody we can find
a way to at least see a little bit more
out of before we start making final roster decisions for
the postseason.
Speaker 1 (22:10):
You can read him in the LA Times. You can
follow him on x at by Jack Harris. He's Jack
Harris of the LA Times. Really appreciate a couple of
minutes before first pitch. Thanks a lot, Jack, Thank you.
All right, there he goes Jack Harris at the LA
time still to come here on Morongco Casino Dodgers on deck.

Speaker 1 (23:22):
We go back to twenty sixteen, April twenty second in
Denver Dodgers taken on the Rockies. The Dodgers this night
would lose the game seven to five, but a great
defensive play from yes week the.
Speaker 2 (23:36):
Two to one is a fly ball to right that
goes twighted.
Speaker 7 (23:40):
He is at the wall, he jumps, he can't get it.
It is off the wall and Story can really run.
He's on his way to third page and want to throw,
and he is out at third page. Yes see ol
peek with one of the great throws you will ever
see in this game. He is three hundred and seventy
nine feet from home player.
Speaker 3 (24:00):
He threw on the fly.
Speaker 7 (24:02):
Story could run and he was out by a thread.
A magnificent throw by yashi O Puig. You're never gonna
see anything like this one again.
Speaker 1 (24:12):
Trevor's Story hits the ball off the wall and right
try to stretch it into a triple. He is thrown
at a third by Yasio Puig in the bottom half
of the fifth inning. Dodgers would have to lead the moment,
but the Rockies would come back and win it seven
to five, but truly a great defensive play from Yasio Puigue.
That is your Hofey Magical moment, brought to you by

Speaker 6 (27:29):
And now joined by David bas saying, here's La Dodgers
broadcaster and World Series champion Dodger Rick Monday.
Speaker 2 (27:38):
Well Rick. A week ago, it was panic for Dodger Nation.
Speaker 1 (27:41):
The Dodgers were losing on the road in Pittsburgh and
in Baltimore, couldn't keep a no hitter in the ninth
Inny and funny how a few games later, got themselves
a little winning streak here and it feels like the
team's playing better all the way round.
Speaker 5 (27:54):
How about the fact, uh, Tim, First of all, you
look at three games in a and two of those
three you have a no hitter going into the ninth inning.
I mean you go blink a couple of different times,
because it was not that long ago that you were
fielding calls on getaway days on postgame Dodger talking talking
about on the pregame show too, is that WHOA? What's
(28:15):
the story with the starting pitching. Well, the starting pitching
has really come around. Then we started to talk about
the bullpen. They ran into a rough spot. Now they're
starting to smooth things out as well. But if we
look at the last four games, how about early in
the games, where the starting pitching job is to give
your team the opportunity to win. Well, how about this
(28:36):
inning's one through five the last four games, the Dodgers
starters have allowed only two hits over those innings. I
mean they're two for sixty. So you talk about giving
your club a chance to win, My goodness, they've gone
over and above, and the Dodgers are saying in the
win column, thank you very much.
Speaker 2 (28:53):
You look at the remaining games on the schedule.
Speaker 1 (28:55):
Rick, and you look at this Dodgers' bullpen is Dave
Roberts Mark prior this coaching staff looking at these guys
and said, hey, who's gonna raise their hand?
Speaker 2 (29:03):
Who wants to be the guy we can go to
in October?
Speaker 5 (29:06):
Yeah, I think so. I don't think there's any question
about that. And if we were reading between the tea
leaves over the last maybe three or four weeks, there
were some messages that were delivered by Dave Roberts. He
doesn't have to have a meeting and yell and scream
and throw chairs. And these guys understand what's going on.
They've been there before, they've won a World championship. And
(29:28):
for those that maybe were not with the club last year,
understand what this team is about. They're joining a team
that's had success. So I think everything put into a perspective,
this is a ball club. Here's the other thing. I
talked to Dave Roberts about this, and Dave was nodding
at the same time, you've been around the game of baseball.
I've been around it. But unless you're in that dugout
(29:50):
and you're in that locker room, even though we travel
with them every day. We don't really know the inner
makings and the heartbeat of the team. We think we do,
but that's where you really to see it in the
dugout during games, and then in that locker room before
and after. So I get the feeling that whatever the
message was, whether it was delivered internally or externally, whatever
(30:10):
it was, or if it was just a standpoint he said, hey,
look guys, we can all do this much better than
what we're doing at this particular time, because there was
a very rough road there for a while. Now they're
back and you can see the confidence kind of growing too.
The one thing that's been rather constant has been the defense.
The defense has really stood tall. Base running has improved
(30:31):
over the last ten twelve days on top of it. So, yeah,
this is a ball club. I think they like to stretch,
no question about it. Stretch out that two game lead
that they currently have over the Pandres as they enter tonight.
Speaker 1 (30:42):
Is there enough time for Tommy Edmund to get it
going in the final seventeen games here into the season.
Speaker 2 (30:46):
He's been out a long time.
Speaker 5 (30:47):
Yeah, yeah, I think there is. From his standpoint is
that he's not that removed to understand what it's called
upon to do. I marvel first of all, the fact
that he's a switch hitter. I don't know how you
do that. It was tough enough for me to figure
out how to get out of a slump from one
(31:07):
side of the plate. What happens if you're in a
slump from both sides? Although it reminds me of a
conversation I had years ago with Tim with the Moray Wills,
and I asked him that question. I said, how on
earth did you handle being in slumps? I said, I
know what it was like from one side of the plate.
Were you ever in a slump from both sides? Oddly enough,
he said no. In his entire career, including the eight
(31:30):
plus years he played at the minor league level before
he became an All Star with the Dodgers as a
short stim and set the stolen based record, he said
he was never in his professional career, thank goodness, in
a slump from both sides of the plate.
Speaker 2 (31:43):
Well, I hope thats.
Speaker 1 (31:43):
Say it doesn't get wally pipped, because I really enjoyed
this rinking. If Dave doesn't return to marl then he'll
be us again.
Speaker 2 (31:50):
How about that.
Speaker 5 (31:51):
Well, it's one of those things, you know, he's got
a temporary time out. Didn't have to send him to
the corner. But he'll be better. He'll be back on Friday,
no doubt based Tim all right.
Speaker 1 (31:58):
There he goes Rick Monday, still the cup here on

This is high and tight.
Speaker 8 (33:04):
Well, I'm really happy to be joined right now by
a man that you see every Sunday on ESPN Sunday

generation of baseball writers and baseball coverage of his outstanding
work as a beat writer to now being a national
voice for ESPN. And that is Vermont's favorite son, the
(33:27):
one and only Buster Only Buster, thanks a lot for
the time.
Speaker 3 (33:31):
Appreciate it, mister Vessay.
Speaker 12 (33:33):
It's great to talk with you, and thank you for
doing the introduction without kicking a cheap shot at my
home stay at Mont. This is like the first time.
Speaker 8 (33:41):
Ever Buster who covered the Yankees and wrote one of
my favorite books, kind of just chronicling that era of
Yankee baseball. The Last Night of the Yankee Dynasty is
one of my favorite books. And since the Dodgers are
trying to do something that hasn't been done since those
Yankees twenty five years ago. I thought, maybe you would
have good perspective on what Dodger fans should be feeling
(34:05):
in a regular season that has left them wanting more.
Did the Yankees leave their fans going into any one
of their championships wanting more and making them a little
nervous going into the postseason?
Speaker 12 (34:18):
Oh my god, Yes, no doubt about it. You know,
the ninety eight team was extraordinary in one one hundred
and twenty five games regular season postseason combined, and except
for one I think moment of real anxiety during the
playoffs in the American League Championship Series, they rolled through.
(34:39):
But in ninety nine, in two thousand and two thousand
and one, when they were trying to repeat his champions
the regular season became really hard for that team increasingly
year by year. I think in part human nature, they
got a little bored during the course of the year,
you know, to the point that Joe Tory at one
point during a team meeting yelled at him and said, look,
(35:01):
you can't turn it on and off like a light switch.
And so yeah, I mean, there definitely were moments of anxiety,
and I certainly have thought about that, you know, watching
this Dodger team, because pushing that rock up the hill
every year becomes more and more difficult, especially I think
for older players. But I had a executive with another
(35:21):
team say to me earlier this year, at some point
he thinks the Dodger DNA will kick in and they'll
focus when the game's become more meaningful. And so I
think absolutely, if you're a Dodger fan, you can learn
something from those Yankee teams in late nineties because they
did get hard.
Speaker 8 (35:40):
There's been a lot of talk about the Dodgers have
a losing record against losing teams in their last twenty matchups. Yeah,
I don't know if that's basically the teams bringing their
World Series game while the Dodgers are saying, ho hum,
we got the bigger picture in mind.
Speaker 12 (35:58):
I think it absolutely is that. And you know, those
Yankee teams that I covered, you know, if you put
the Red Sox in front of them, if you put
the Cleveland Indians at that time, you know, one of
the best American League teams in front of them, the
Yankees would bring their a game and they would play
so focused. But if you put in ninety nine or
(36:18):
two thousand, two thousand and one a team like Tampa
Bay in front of them, If you put Kansas City
in front of them, then it became a problem. And
as I say, that's that's where I really learned. That
was from watching that team. And look, I really don't
say that as a criticism. I think anybody who has
a job can relate to this that over the course
of a you know, a year, you're gonna have periods
(36:41):
where you're you're not as engaged, you're not as focused,
you're not as uh, you know, as locked in as
you are at other times during the course of the year.
And that's what happens. It's it's absolutely human nature. And
I think that's what the Dodgers have been dealing with
this year, to the point that I almost laugh at
my self the idea that even engaging in the conversation
(37:03):
about whether or not the team would win one hundred
and twenty games.
Speaker 8 (37:06):
Buster Olney is joining us from ESPN, and Buster, I
got to ask you, with all that being said, do
you feel like the Dodgers are in a position to
make another run to get to the World Series and
get through the National League, even if they have to
play that wildcard series. How do you look at the Dodgers,
you know, just being detached from the day to day.
Speaker 12 (37:29):
Their experience, the star power on the roster is going
to make them very dangerous. They absolutely could. Here's the
other thing too, It's not as if we're looking at,
you know, a group of teams and saying, boy, those
are great teams that absolutely coult up end the Dodgers.
And if you look at the American League, it feels
completely wide open, with the National League being a better
(37:51):
league this year than the American League. So yeah, could
they could the Dodgers DNA kick in and they roll
through October as the executives suggested to me, no question
about it.
Speaker 8 (38:02):
You had a front row seat to that season in
ninety five, and like I said, I'm not just saying that.
That Last Night of the Yankees Dynasty book you wrote
is still one of my all time favorites. So great
perspective because people are freaking out in LA.
Speaker 12 (38:17):
Well, I appreciate that, and I totally get it. Look,
I mean Yankee fans, you know, they're they they always
believe if they lose, you know, two games in a row,
it's kind of panic, and I think that you know,
once you start winning championships, the level of expectation grows,
so I totally get where you're coming from.
Speaker 8 (38:37):
Great to have Buster Only on. Thanks a lot for
the time, Buster, and can't wait to see you back
in LA soon.
Speaker 12 (38:43):
Yeah, David, all kidding aside, I always love talking with you.
Speaker 8 (38:46):
Yeah, he's the best Buster Only. We'll send it back

Speaker 2 (38:49):

Kyle Freeland on the mound for the Rockies. Thirty two
year old left hander been with the Rockies his entire career.
Born and raised in Denver, four and fourteen, five and
ten eer Ray, making his twenty eight start this year.
He throws the fastball, knuckle, curve cutter, and sweeper. Last
time out eight shutout and he's two hits ten strikeouts
in a win over the Padres. Making his twenty six
career start against the Dodgers, he's five and eleven with
(40:02):
a four to eighty e r RAY. He faced the
Dodgers back on August eighteenth at Course Field, a no
decision at Dodger Stadium. In his career twelve starts, he's
one in six with a four oh seven RRA. Blake
Snell on the mound for the Dodgers three and four
with a three to nineteen RRA. The thirty two year
old left hander making just his ninth start this season.
(40:22):
His seventh since coming off the injured list with that
left shoulder injury. It's that the fastball change up, curveball slider.
Last time out five innings, five runs, nine hits and
a loss to Pittsburgh last week, he has given up
tener in runs and his last three starts combined. He's
pitched against the Rockies thirteen times in his career three
and two with a three point thirty ERRA and one
hundred and thirteen strikeouts. He last faced them the last
(40:44):
July as a member of the Giants. A win tonight
would be career win number eighty for Blake Snell in
his career. Dodgers Rockies were fifteen minutes away from first pitch.
Speaker 2 (40:56):
Keys to the game.
Speaker 1 (40:56):
Our next have Tim Kais's the world champion Los Angeles
Dodgers Audio Network.
Speaker 6 (41:03):
This is Marongo Casino Dodgers on tap on your home
for the Blue all season.
Speaker 1 (41:11):
Long, and so the Dodgers and Rockies, Blake Snell on
the Mount, Kyle Frigland, the left hander will go for
Colorado and the boys in Blue play at home. It's
important they have the right plan to protect their house.
You need one for your home to create a wildfire
action plan. It's fire season. Select a predetermined meeting point
outside your home and create a family communication plan. Know
your escape routes and practice them. Put together a go
(41:32):
back with all the essentials with your family's needs for
up to maybe four days or probably more. Carry a
fire extinguishing your car. Hot exhaust pipes and muffers can
start fires, so avoid parking where you can park on
dry grass.
Speaker 2 (41:44):
Try not to do that.
Speaker 7 (41:45):
Please.
Speaker 1 (41:45):
For more about these tips and to find out others,
visit fire dot CA dot gov. Back out to the
booth one final time, Tim and Rick guys.
Speaker 7 (41:52):
Sim thanks again. Counting it down to the first pitch.
Tonight it'll be thrown by left hander Blake Snell, who
makes his ninth start. Last time out, through five innings
against Pittsburgh, gave up five earned runs on nine hits.
He's looking for a bounce back here tonight against the Rocky.
Speaker 5 (42:07):
Yeah, looking for bounce back. He's pitched much better in
the home games if five of those in an era
under one point eight. So for Snell, we'll see if
he's getting the breaking boat over and then really four
to five of the fastball. Kyle Freeland is interesting. Looked
up a number when a posing hitters put the first
pitch in play this year, which you believe, it's over
a four hundred batting average. So the question is will
(42:29):
the Dodgers go hunting first pitches, and if they do,
make sure it's good pitch in that strike zone.
Speaker 7 (42:35):
If they're aggressive, we'll see what happens. But it's the
you know you look at Freeland. His last start was
against the Padres on the fifth, and he ended up
with a great outing eight innings, no earn runs at all,
ten strikeouts, first time in his career he'd gone eight
or more innings while striking out ten. So he's coming
off a very good start. As he gets said to
(42:56):
oppose Blake Snell, Rockies and Dodgers Game three, Dodgers going
for this week, Tim all.
Speaker 1 (43:03):
Right, Dodgers eighty one and sixty four, two games up
on the Padres in the standings. Padres right now one
nothing lead in the top half of the sixth inning
in San Diego in a final game of that series
of Petco Parks.
Speaker 2 (43:16):
We'll keep an eye on that throughout the night.
Speaker 1 (43:18):
I'll be back with all the postgame festivities, including reaction
highlights and Dodger talk.
Speaker 2 (43:23):
As well first pitches.
Speaker 1 (43:25):
Next snail Zilla on the mound on this show, Hey O,
tany bobblehead night, first pitch when we come back. Enjoy it.
