Welcome to Dodgers on Deck. Now your host walking you
up to first pitch.
Speaker 3 (00:41):
Tim Kats Well, Hi everybody, and welcome into Morongo Casino.
Dodgers on Deck Today the final game of the regular season.
It's Game one, sixty two. You're world champion Los Angeles
Dodgers ninety two and sixty nine. On this season, they're
the NL West Divisional champions for a twelve time ineen years,
and today they wrap up the season in Seattle before
(01:03):
returning for the start of the postseason on Tuesday. But
first things first, Today not only the final game of
the regular season, but also the final start arguably of
the greatest Dodger ever, Clayton Kershaw, the future Hall of Famer,
with friends and family and former teammates and attendance for
what should be a special day in Seattle. First pitch
from t Bobile Park is coming up at twelve ten.
(01:24):
Between then and now, we got a lot to get
to here on Morongo Casino Dodgers on deck, including hearing
from his first pitching coach, Rick Honeycutt. That's coming up.
We'll dive deeper into this pitching matchup. We'll hear from
the manager, Dave Roberts. David Vasse joins us throughout the hour.
We got a very special, magical moment coming up in
about thirty minutes. Shortly, we'll visit with Sports and at
LA's Kirsten Watson live on the field in Seattle. In
(01:48):
just a few minutes, we'll check in with Tim Nevererd
and Rick Monday out at the Gallpin Motors broadcast both well.
Last night in Seattle, it was the bottom of the
lineup that provided the big hits. Tyler klass Now got
the start. He would go three shutout inning, scattering three
hits while striking out three. He threw thirty six pitches,
and that was enough for Dave Roberts, who wants to
have Glass now ready to pitch if needed in the
wild Card round. The Dodgers offense, meanwhile, usually relies on
(02:11):
the Big Three, but last night no show, Hey O
Tani a night off. Bets and Freeman had a combined
one hit, so it was up to the bottom of
the lineup to deliver. In the fifth, Dalton Rushing.
Speaker 5 (02:21):
Did pitch to Rushing. He swings belts it deep to
right field, way back, and gone home run.
Speaker 8 (02:28):
Dalton Rushing, with his fourth major league home run, gets
the Dodgers on the board and has two to nothing.
Speaker 5 (02:37):
Oh he absolutely annihilated that baseball one hundred and ten
miles an hour off the bat.
Speaker 3 (02:46):
It was a no doubter fourth home run of the
season for Dalton Rushing at two run shot Dodgers a
two to nothing lead.
Speaker 1 (02:53):
That lead, though, didn't last long.
Speaker 3 (02:54):
Andrew Heeney, the veteran left hander on in relief in
the fifth, he got into some trouble, gave up a
three run home run to Jorge Polanko, and the Mariners
took a three to two lead. In the seventh, the
Dodgers manufactured some offense, Michael Conforto a leadoff single. Three
batters later, Kei ky Hernandez single to the left. Then
Confordo scored on a wild pitch to tie the game
at three. Dodgers in the ninth got something cooking again
(03:17):
with the bottom of the line up providing the spark.
Michael Confordo Alex call back to back walks to lead
off the inning. Two batters later, the nine hitter keik.
Speaker 8 (03:27):
I'll field straight up, little shallow and left field as
a rose arena, and Key k pelts one deep to
left faild that one is headed to the corner. It's
going to bounce off the track and off the wall
in the score is Conforto. Alex call right behind him,
and then with a two run double is Key k
Hernandez and the Dodgers lead at five to three.
Speaker 4 (03:48):
Kicky Hernandez, we mentioned this last night.
Speaker 2 (03:51):
He's beginning to swing the bat at the perfect time,
with postseason getting closer and closer.
Speaker 3 (03:57):
Yes, Key ky Hernandez, mister October for the Dodgers doing
it in September. He has the RBI the double there
to give the Dodgers a five to three lead at
Guardo Enriquez got the bottom of the ninth struck out
the side for the win. How about the Dodgers' bullpen
trying Investi and Riquez a combined nine straight strikeouts against
the Mayrin or something that hasn't happened since nineteen twenty
(04:19):
Clayton Kershaw. He'll get the start today and what should
be at epic Day at T Mobile Park in Seattle
in the final regular season start for Kershaw, the final
game of the twenty twenty five regular season. And with
more we head out to the Gallpin Motors broadcast booth
as we welcome in Tim Neffert and Rick Monday.
Speaker 8 (04:35):
Guys, Tim, thanks very much as we get ready for
the final game of the regular season and Clayton Kershaw's
final regular season start. A lot of unknowns at this
point in time as far as Kershaw is concerned, but
one thing we do know today this will be a
regular start for him. He will go as long as
he can be, as effective as he can be, and
(04:57):
he will be unavailable now for wild Card series. He
won't be on the playoff roster, Dave Roberts said for
the wild Card series as a result of his start today,
Dodgers ninety two and sixty nine, and they are looking
for their third straight win over the Mariners, who are
ninety and seventy one. So both the American League Western
Division champs and the National League Western Division Champs will
(05:20):
finish up here this afternoon.
Speaker 4 (05:21):
The roof is open.
Speaker 5 (05:22):
It is a beautiful.
Speaker 8 (05:23):
September afternoon in Seattle. Shoho, Tani back in the lineup, mold,
But that's not the big news. The big news is
Clayton Kershaw is both Mariner fans Dodger fans, and of
course all baseball fans will be keeping an eye on
the leftiest performance today.
Speaker 2 (05:39):
Yeah, and this is a time to be sentimental. I mean,
you look back upon eighteen years and what an eighteen
years span it has been. He's going to have five
years to work on his speech that he can deliver
Cooperstown when he enters the Baseball's Hall of Fame. And
for Clayton Kershaw, it has been amazing what he's been
able to do. And I only want under what about
(06:01):
the emotions for Clayton Kershaw? What is he going through today?
What is his family going through today? His children have
a chance to see him on the mound and start
a game for the last time. They will be in
town and watching, and we know that he is a
creature of habit as we all are, and we'll be
watching very closely when he takes the field to get
loose before he even goes to the bullpen, because he
(06:22):
does certain things in a certain manner and a certain
kind of a cadence, and he just wonders that there's
going to be a volcano working inside of him, because
this is something he's been used to, but he's never
been used to the fact of making his final start.
Speaker 8 (06:37):
The Dodgers are planning on getting through the wild Card
and getting back to the World Series and winning it.
Speaker 4 (06:41):
That's the goal.
Speaker 8 (06:42):
So they're hoping for a lot of postseason baseball, but
unfortunately baseball is baseball sometimes, and you never know. Could
this be the last time we see him pitching a game.
Speaker 2 (06:52):
Well, we don't know. He would have to be into
the second round. And as you're mentioning, is it with
the start today, he's not going to be, and not
because he hasn't earned it, but if you look at
the role, it's going to take him X number of
days to be ready to pitch again, whether be in
his start whather be in the bullpen, So those days
do not match up with working today, unless possibly it's
(07:14):
a very short outing. That would be the only way
that that could work out. And I would imagine too.
There's a lot of pressure.
Speaker 7 (07:20):
You know.
Speaker 2 (07:20):
We talked about the pressure in the eyelook that everybody
gives Clayton Kershaw. Well, what about his teammates because they
want to be a part of this and not let
the left hander down at all.
Speaker 8 (07:30):
They want to get him a win.
Speaker 1 (07:31):
Yep.
Speaker 8 (07:32):
Dave Roberts said that as the playoffs move along, Kershaw's
role he expects him to have a role could be anything.
He said, I could see him starting a game. I
could see him coming in in long relief. I could
see him coming in in short relief.
Speaker 5 (07:45):
He said.
Speaker 8 (07:46):
At this stage of Clayton Kershaw's career, Clayton is interested
in winning and winning online.
Speaker 2 (07:51):
Yeah, and there's a couple of things on the periphery
as well. Max Munsey not starting again today. He needs
a rest and always been told is basically a lower
bodies soreness. Will Smith can't count upon him because that
fractured right hand to be available in the first round.
Would he be available at any point in postseason employee,
(08:12):
the Dodgers know that they have to get to work
on Tuesday, and it's been announced that Tuesday, Wednesday and
Thursday Thursday, if needed, those games would start at Dodger
Stadium at six oh eight Pacific. So that's about the
only thing we know. And by the time we leave
the stadium today, the Dodgers will know who it is
that they're going to play at six to eight on Tuesday.
Speaker 8 (08:32):
All games at the same time, so we'll know whether
it'll be the Reds or the Mets, and we may
know before this game is finished, depending on how quickly
there is finished. Hopefully before we leave the air, we
know who the Dodgers opponent it is. But it's an
either or at this point. It's either the Mets or
the Cincinnati Reds on Tuesday Night at Dodgers Stadium. Counting
it down to the final start of the regular season
(08:53):
and the illustrious career of number twenty two Clayton Kershaw
from Seattle.
Speaker 3 (08:58):
Tim All right, thank you guys, as we tell you
down first pitch, Dodger fans, get your game day meal on.
It's Shaky's Pizza Parlor. Shaky's Chicken Pizza, Mojo's. It's the best.
Check it out at Shaky's dot Com. Coming up here
on Morongo because you know, Dodgers on deck. We'll hear
for the manager Dave Roberts. We'll check out with David Vas.
Say what up next, We'll visit with sports and at
LA's Kirston Watson. That's all coming up as we lead
(09:19):
you off to Clayton Kershaw's final regular season start Dodgers Mariners.
Speaker 1 (09:24):
Thanks for being with us.
Speaker 3 (09:25):
I'm Tim kas Is, the world champion Los Angeles Dodgers
Audio Network.
Speaker 7 (09:32):
Well, this is Morongo Casino, Dodgers Hunters on your home
for LA Dodgers Baseball.
Speaker 3 (09:41):
It's the Dodgers and the Mariners on this Sunday, final
regular season start for Clayton Kershaw and his Hall of
Fame career first pitch coming up at twelve ten.
Speaker 7 (09:50):
This is Kirston's Corner with Kirston Watson.
Speaker 3 (09:54):

Call eats of It so Cars for Kids right now,
friendly agents are standing by to take your donation. That's
Cars with the K to donate your car today. Here
we are heirston the final game of this season and
the final regular season starred for the future Hall of
Famer Clayton Kershaw. You've been covering this team a few
(10:15):
years now. What has it been like for you to
be around Clayton Kershaw to watch him work and what
he does on the mound?
Speaker 9 (10:22):
You know, honestly, Tim, and it's been such a privilege,
I think when you do get to be surrounded by
such talent, and it's throughout this entire organization. But what
Clayton Hershaw does, the tone that he sets, how he
carries himself one he's since the day I got here
and kind of learning him and building a relationship and
(10:43):
building a friendship. He's been so kind to me, you know,
when I and I was early in my career here
asking him questions, He's always giving honest answers. I think
I had to definitely learn how he likes to kind
of just talk about his game and things like that,
and who always puts the team first. And so I
think when you see that every single day and you
(11:05):
see the greatness that he not only brings on the mound,
but like who he is to his teammates, how he
shows up to do his job every single day, and
you know, the impact that he has with young players
who are looking up to him and admiring him and
things like that, the competitive nature he has on the mound,
I think being able to witness that firsthand, being able
(11:28):
to witness, you know, the father that he is to
his children, the husband that he is to Ellen, how
you know he spends these we see Charlie out here
all the time, and so I think just kind of
getting that full image of him. I obviously came after
the twenty twenty season and so he had won the
World Series inn and I do think you know, everyone
(11:49):
always shared, especially on start days. Now you don't look
him in the eye. You avoid him at all times
and dah da da, or like if he doesn't play well,
you know, he might not be the easiest of interviews.
And I think because I experienced working with him on
the back end of his career after winning a World
Series championship, now a two time champion, it's just I
(12:10):
did not I didn't necessarily get that side of him.
But it's been such a privilege and I think some
of my favorite memories just quickly to say, is you
know watching him at the parade, that hoisting that trophy
in the air, being on top of the bus, just
like with all of the fans that were in downtown LA.
(12:31):
Like these are things you'll never forget. And it's like that,
it's it's the the ping pong tournaments, things like that.
Like it's been really special and I'm so grateful that
he is someone who he's one of the greatest pictures.
He's obviously one of the greatest left handed pictures we've
ever seen. He is a future Hall of Fame where
(12:51):
there's no doubt about it. But he's also a really
special just person and he's a really good man. And
it's been such a privilege and an honor to be able
to cover him in these last years and just to
witness his journey.
Speaker 3 (13:03):
Wow, it's his final regular season start. No doubt we
will see him at some point, hopefully many times here
in October during the Dodgers playoff run. Kirsten pre shiit it.
We'll check in with you after the game. Still they
come here on Marongo Casino Dodgers on Deck. We'll dive
deeper into this pitching matchup. David Vatsego's one on one
with Rake Honey Cup. But up next we'll get you
an injury report and we hear from the manager, Dave Roberts.
(13:23):
It's the Dodgers and Mariners final start ever in the
regular season for Clayton Kershaw. I'm Tim Kas's the world
champion Los Angeles Dodgers Audio Network.
Speaker 7 (13:33):
This is Marongo Casino Dodgers on Deck.
Speaker 10 (13:39):
On your home for the blue all season Low.
Speaker 3 (13:43):
Bronggo Casino Dodgers on Deck continues as we lead up
to first pitch, Dodgers and the Mariners Marago Casino Resort
at SPA, a grand slam of four good times. Clayton
Kershaw makes his final start in the regular season eighteen
years in a Dodgers uniform. Next stop Cooperstown, New York
in the Hall of Fame. But he will certainly be
a part of a big part of the Dodgers postseason
(14:04):
run coming up next week when it starts in the
Wildcard round, and then beyond first pitch coming up, it's
twell ten.
Speaker 1 (14:11):
He's the LA Dodgers.
Speaker 3 (14:14):
Injury report presented by UCLA Healthy, official medical partner of
the Los Angeles Dodgers. Kirby Yates on the IL with
the hamstring injury, Will Smith on the IL with the
hairline fracture in his right hand. Brock Stewart done for
the year after soldier surgery. He is not coming back,
even though they acquired him at the deadline to help
out with this. Dodgers' bullpen Max Munsey not in the
lineup again today, resting.
Speaker 1 (14:34):
Up for the wildcard round.
Speaker 3 (14:35):
All right, let's head back up to Seattle and check
in with the Dodgers skipper.
Speaker 4 (14:39):
Anything else questions for Dave Dave? Can you just describe Dave?
Speaker 1 (14:44):
Can you talk about the pressure.
Speaker 11 (14:46):
In the dugouts with Dave Robbers, I'm expecting, you know,
another good outing. I think that it's going to be emotional,
but a different type of emotion, certainly being on the road.
Speaker 4 (15:01):
But it's his.
Speaker 11 (15:01):
Last start, career start, and so I think it's going
to be emotional. I think he wants to obviously pitch well,
and we got a good thing going right now. I'm
excited to see him, you know, take the mound as
a starter for the last time, and our guys want.
Speaker 4 (15:20):
To win one for him.
Speaker 9 (15:21):
Similar to what we've been seeing the last few days.
Speaker 4 (15:23):
Is the plan to have a shorter outing for him.
Speaker 11 (15:26):
Today, No, I think just a regular outing. There's just
not a whole lot of guys available today, so just
have him go as long as he can.
Speaker 1 (15:34):
We'll see what does that mean for him for the
Wildcat Series?
Speaker 11 (15:37):
He won't be available for the Wildcat Series.
Speaker 12 (15:40):
What would it look like for him in the in
the coming rounds and the d S, the LCS. How
would it look for him coming out of the bullpen
as far.
Speaker 5 (15:48):
As just when.
Speaker 11 (15:52):
You know he would provide? Yeah, I mean, you just
don't know how things are going to play out. He's
obviously pitching today, so he'll be available for the DS,
the potential DS and what capacity. I don't think anyone
knows yet, because you know, with the roster that we have,
(16:15):
things play out funny, unpredictable in the postseason. So I
just don't know how the three games are gonna play out,
the potential three games.
Speaker 1 (16:24):
All right, there's a manager, Dave Roberts.
Speaker 3 (16:26):
So Clayton Kershaw will not be on the wildcard roster,
but certainly will be a part of this Dodger postseason
roster moving forward if the Dodgers are able to advance
to the DS, making his final regular season start today.
When we come back here on Wrongo Casino Dodgers on Deck,
we will check in with the David Vase. It's been
around him longer than anybody. Leads out to first pitch,
(16:46):
Dodgers and Mariners from Seattle. I'm Tim Kats's world champion

Speaker 12 (17:38):
I accept everybody for who they are.
Speaker 3 (17:39):
This is Dodger insider David Basse all right, DV eighteen
years for Clayton Kershaw at Dodger uniform. You've been covering
him the entire time and have been around him a
lot in the last decade plus.
Speaker 1 (17:51):
For the final time, we say Happy Kershaw Day.
Speaker 12 (17:55):
Yeah, it's gonna be a special day here in Seattle.
Rick Honeycut is going to join us a little a
little bit later in the show, he flew into Seattle,
and of course, his former catcher A j Ellis broke
away from his responsibilities with the San Diego Padres and
took a flight. This morning, he will be sitting with
Ellen Kershaw and family today here at T Mobile Park.
Speaker 5 (18:19):
And right now, here's the scene.
Speaker 12 (18:21):
Tim Clayton Kershaw is jogging out to center field for
the last time in a regular season, start to go
through his normal routine where he'll have a meditation moment
and he is pounding on the four to one sign
right now and straightaway center field. So trying to take
this all in because this may be the very last
(18:43):
time we see Kershaw start a game in his major
league career.
Speaker 3 (18:47):
David is brought to you by our friends at Ford.
It's time to see Ford in a new light, all right.
The Dodgers now wait to see who they faced the
wildcard round. Who's a better matchup the Mets or the Reds.
Speaker 12 (19:01):
I kind of lean towards the Mets because they're backing
into it and they don't have as good of starting
pitching and they would have to fly cross country. They're
in Miami today, and if they win and the Reds lose,
they would have to fly from Miami to Los Angeles.
That's not easy in itself. But here's the argument for
(19:22):
the Reds being a better matchup. The Reds lineup is
not as good as the Mets. They don't have as
many offensive threats to keep up with the Dodger offense.
What they do have is Hunter Green, who is having
his best season in Major League Baseball, and in a
short series, game one is so vital to winning that series.
Speaker 5 (19:42):
And we all know when you.
Speaker 12 (19:44):
Go up against good starting pitching is sometimes it can
beat good offense.
Speaker 5 (19:48):
So there's the pros and cons.
Speaker 12 (19:50):
So right now, I know the Mets have won so too,
and Pete Alonso and their deep threats, but I still
would say the Mets are a better matchup entering how
bad things have gone for them.
Speaker 3 (20:02):
All right, David, great stuff. We'll check back in with
you in just a little bit. David, giving us a
words eye view there as Carlayton Kershaw walked onto the
field and chalked out to center field, his last regular
season start in a Dodger uniform. Certainly October baseball. Clayton
Kershaw will be a big part of this Dodgers team.
Coming up here, I'm Wrongo Casino Dodgers on deck. You'll
hear from Rick Honeycutt. We'll dive deeper to this pitcheet matchup.
(20:23):
But up next your Dodgers magical moment today, a big
day in Dodger history, a long time ago. You'll hear
it next, Dodgers Mariners from Seattle. I'm Tim Kas's the
world champion Los Angeles Dodgers Audio Network.
Speaker 7 (20:40):
Well, this is Morongo Casino Dodgers hunting on your home

a great shot and still.
Speaker 5 (22:09):
A scoreless gown.
Speaker 3 (22:10):
Certain ted Leitner with the call, Oral Hersheiser breaks Don
Drysdale's consecutive scoreless innings record. Coming into the game, he
had completed forty nine consecutive scoreless innings. He needed ten
more in his final start of the regular season to
break the record and WinCE you know what. Back then,
pitchers actually pitched deep into games, and on that night
against the Padres, Oral Hersheiser went ten scoreless innings to
(22:33):
break Don Drysdale's consecutive scoreless innings streaks at fifty nine
straight scoreless innings. This Hofey Magical moment brought to by

Kershaw's career.
Speaker 5 (24:04):
It should be an emotional time here.
Speaker 12 (24:06):
Maybe not as much at Dodger Stadium, but today certainly
is historic, you know.
Speaker 4 (24:10):
One of the things.
Speaker 2 (24:11):
And I woke up early this morning and you know,
normally I sleep like a baby, but I was nervous
for him because having played for a number of years
and then knowing what I felt after the career was over.
In particular, it didn't really hit me until the next spring.
There was an emptiness there was on the calendar. There
(24:34):
was no date to leave, there was no hill to
climb again. And I just wonder as if for Kershaw
what he was going through this morning, even before he
came to the ballpark. We will watch him very closely
when he does take the field because he has a
routine that he does. He runs a sprint, he goes
to the center field area and he goes up against
(24:57):
the center field fence. He has a quiet moment and
then he bangs on the wall twice. This will be
maybe the final time he bangs on that wall as
a competitor in the start. And if they're going to
use Clayton Kershaw in the bullpen in the postseason, is
this the last start that Clayton Kershaw makes in his
(25:18):
absolutely glorious career.
Speaker 12 (25:19):
It feels like everybody is treating it that way because
you never know what's going to be needed in the postseason.
Speaker 1 (25:25):
No, you don't.
Speaker 2 (25:26):
And I can only imagine the rainbow of emotions that
he and his family a feeling. And I think also
his teammates because they have I think every time that
they've taken them their positions behind Kershaw, they expect even
(25:47):
more of themselves because they don't want to let him down.
He's always taken the mound with the idea he doesn't
want to let them down. Well, he's not let millions
and millions of Dodger fans down for eighteen years.
Speaker 12 (26:00):
And Dave Roberts conceded the Dodgers would not be in
this position to win the division without Kershaw pitching the
way he did this.
Speaker 2 (26:07):
Yet, well you look at it. I mean, here's the deal.
He's ten and two making his twenty second start. Now,
how many people thought they were could make that many starts?
How many people thought that he would be that effective
to go ten wins and two losses. Yes, that means
that the team that he pitches forward scored more runs
than the other team. But he also held him to
fewer runs than what the Dodgers scored. So two different
(26:29):
ways you can look at it.
Speaker 12 (26:31):
Yeah, it's not a ceremonial victory lap for Kershaw. He
was going to come back only if he could pitch
to the standards that he sets for him.
Speaker 1 (26:38):
So here's the deal.
Speaker 2 (26:39):
I think the Chronicle, you know, Tim Nevert and I
were talking about this earlier, and Dwayne and I were
talking to In a perfect scenario, let's say Kershaw goes
six innings, I would like to see him go back
on the mound in the seventh warm up and throw
before he throws one pitch, have Dave Roberts come out,
(27:00):
came out of the game and let him take that
final walk from the mound to the dugout.
Speaker 5 (27:05):
Yeah.
Speaker 12 (27:05):
Dave Roberts seems to understand the theater of the game
and the moments of the game.
Speaker 5 (27:10):
He's a great manager for this.
Speaker 2 (27:12):
And then you can let the tears flow, because they're
gonna flow.
Speaker 5 (27:16):
Yeah, they will.
Speaker 12 (27:17):
And it'll be great to have Rick Honeycutt, who's going
to join us coming up on the show. And also
aj ellis in the house today.
Speaker 2 (27:23):
Aj is coming back. And who would have thought, you know,
when he made his major league debut, his first starts
two thousand and eight, when Joe Tory was the manager
and Rick Honeycutt was the pitching coach. Who would have
thought that eighteen years later, here we are.
Speaker 12 (27:40):
Another scout in a factor into Kershaw's early career is
Mike Borsello.
Speaker 5 (27:46):
You remember him, Rick.
Speaker 12 (27:47):
He supposedly was playing catch with Kershaw and that's where
he was the first one to catch the slider that
has carried him to eighteen years.
Speaker 2 (27:55):
Yeah. Well, you know, there's seven days in a week,
but you know, Clayton Kershaw his first major league start
on Sunday, May twenty fifth, two thousand and eight, Dodger Stadium, No. Decision,
struck out the first hitter, Skip Schumacher, first base hit
ever off of Kershaw, Albert Pouhols in that first inning
a double, and that day he went six innings, two runs,
(28:16):
five hits, walk one and had seven strikeouts.
Speaker 12 (28:19):
Hopefully Ben Roortfitt really relishes this game too, because he
can always say he was the last catcher to catch
Kershaw's last start.
Speaker 2 (28:27):
Do you think he's going to hang this lineup card
on his wall forever? You better believe it. I think
all of us if we keep score, which you know
we do during games, this is one of those scorecards
that you keep.
Speaker 12 (28:41):
I'd love to have Rick mondays because your penmanship is
the best of anybody's. Thanks Rick, Well, check back in
with you and Tim never later. Yeah, Kershaw day, We'll
send it back to you.
Speaker 4 (28:51):
Tim.
Speaker 3 (28:52):
All right, Thank you, David, Thank you Mo. That's the
Dodger plan. Dodger fans, you need a game plan. Two
start your future to California Community College. Financial A is
available to help you with TWU wition, help you with books,
sometimes even the rents.
Speaker 1 (29:04):
It's time to take that next big step.
Speaker 3 (29:06):
Classes can fill up quickly, so on roll today that
I can go to college dot Com. Still to come here,
I'm Rago Casino Dodgers on deck. We'll dive deeper into
this pitching matchup Clayton Kershaw making his final regular season
start in the Dodger uniform.
Speaker 1 (29:19):
Tim and Rick will get to the keys to the game.
Speaker 3 (29:21):
But up next, we go high and tight with Clayton
Kershaw's first pitching coach in the Big Leagues, Rick Honeycut
That is next, Dodgers Mariners. I'm Tim Kass, the world
champion Los Angeles Dodgers Audio Network.
Speaker 7 (29:36):
As we were saying yes, is Marongo Casino Dodgers on
deck on the official home of La Dodgers Baseball.
Speaker 3 (29:52):
It's Game one sixty two Dodgers and Mariners from Seattle.
Clayton Kershaw, the future Hall of Famer, making his final
reg season start after eighteen years in a Dodger uniform.
He'll be with the team in the postseason, different role,
most likely today his final start from T Mobile Parking, Seattle.
Coming up at twelve ten. Dodgers Baseball brought to you
(30:13):
by Shaky's Pizza Parlor, the official pizza partner of the
Dodgers Audio Broadcast. When it's game day, it's group day
at Shaky's dot com and.
Speaker 7 (30:22):
Now what will likely be vasse fielding insults from a
Dodger player.
Speaker 1 (30:26):
It's an engagement of endearment.
Speaker 10 (30:28):
This is high and tight.
Speaker 12 (30:30):
It is Kershaw Day for the final regular season game
of the season, final regular season start for Clayton Kershaw.
And they wouldn't be the same if he didn't have
two of the guys that were beside.
Speaker 5 (30:43):
Him from day one.
Speaker 12 (30:44):
His old catcher, aj Ellis is going to be here,
and of course the guy that was there from day
one to help him turn into this guy, the one
and only Rick honeycut Rick.
Speaker 5 (30:55):
Great to see you here in Seattle. I know you
felt like you needed to be here.
Speaker 4 (31:00):
I'm happy to be here obviously.
Speaker 13 (31:02):
It you know, reminiscing all the way back from his
first start, from the first time that I ever met
Clayton in a spring training game against Boston until now.
It's like it just shows how fast time flies. But
so many pleasurable moments.
Speaker 4 (31:24):
With both those guys. But kersh was just a special.
Speaker 13 (31:27):
Human being and I'm so happy that I could be here,
and I hate that. I hate in one way that
he's retiring, but at the same time, I'm glad that
he's able to go out the way that he wants
to go out because of the injuries and things that
he's had to deal with the last few years. But
this year the show just shows his resilience and what
(31:49):
he's able to do. I mean, he saved our team
during the middle of the season when he came back
and was able to start putting together starts and going.
You know, he saved us why we had so many
drews with the starting staff. So but at the same time,
what a career, what a person, what of a great family.
Speaker 4 (32:08):
Just couldn't be prouder and happy for him.
Speaker 12 (32:10):
What do you remember the most about when you first
saw him in that game when he buckled Sean Casey
with the curveball? What do you remember the most about
young kerse shop the most?
Speaker 13 (32:21):
The thing that I remember most because I he was,
you know, Myerniger and they said he's gonna come over
and thrown in in tonight in that night game against
Boston there back in Baro Beach, and he comes over
and he's warming up and you just go, wow, this
kid's got a great arm and impressed with the curveball.
And then he goes out and actually not one of
(32:45):
those guys. The first guy you faced actually a triple
A guy hit a home runoff of him. But then
he comes back and I think punches out the next
three guys, Big Poppy, Sean Casey, and I forget who
the third person was. But he sat next to me
and just had this huge grint on his face and
just looked at me and says, man, that was fun.
Speaker 4 (33:06):
Nothing to do about you know.
Speaker 13 (33:07):
Most I would have been like, man, I made a
mistake to that guy whatever. That was no part of
his thinking. It was just like, I just like getting
over here.
Speaker 14 (33:16):
To see what it's like to pitch in a big
league game in spring training, and he would just had
the smallest face, and I knew right then this kid
is something special, Rick.
Speaker 12 (33:26):
Baseball is a hard sport. There is joy, but there's
a lot of misery as well. Clayton had success, he
had failure. What do you believe separated him for him
not to allow himself to crumble under those failures.
Speaker 13 (33:42):
Well, I think the best they know themselves. And he
never ever ever made excuses, never blamed anybody. He took
full responsibility for anything that happened during the game, and
you just don't find that else. Everybody is like this
(34:02):
or that. You know, he just knew himself, knew the
person that he was. He was brought up right and
just had the heart and soul of a warrior and
a lion when he went out there. But I'm telling
you just the things that he was able to do.
I mean that ten or twelve years stretch was just
(34:25):
flat out just something to behold. And you know the
failure part. I think we all are going to fail
at some point in time. This game's too tough. Nobody
breezes through, you know, any Hall of Famer they had
situations whatever time it may be. But it's the ones
(34:45):
that make adjustments, battle through it and still come out
on top. And this man, he's showing what he's about.
He's still at his age, still going out and can
compete at a high level.
Speaker 4 (34:59):
But you know, for me, I feel bad.
Speaker 13 (35:02):
You know when people want to talk about, you know,
whatever negatives they want to try to bring up the
postseason or whatever. But a lot of that was on
our organization as home. We forced him at a young
age to pitching situations that he shouldn't be you know,
had to do.
Speaker 4 (35:16):
He was going on three days rest.
Speaker 13 (35:19):
At times he's pitching out the bullpen at times. I
mean we asked everything and more than what should have
been expected from someone. But like I said, he endured,
and I think you know he's he's at peace.
Speaker 4 (35:36):
This guy knows for it.
Speaker 13 (35:38):
You know, life's about with his family and his faith, and.
Speaker 4 (35:43):
It's just a pleasure always to be around him.
Speaker 5 (35:45):
Thanks a lot for the time.
Speaker 12 (35:46):
It means a lot, I think to him and all
of us that grew up with Kershaw and Rick Honeycut
being right by his side. And I could say this definitively,
Rick Honeycut made the Dodger work organization better.
Speaker 5 (36:01):
And still is doing so.
Speaker 12 (36:02):
You were even working with Blake Trinan, who values your opinion,
and I know those young pitchers do.
Speaker 5 (36:07):
So I'll say this for everybody.
Speaker 12 (36:10):
The Dodger organization is better when Rick Honeycut came back.
Speaker 5 (36:14):
So great to have you here. And if AJ cries,
don't let us know.
Speaker 4 (36:20):
They better not cry.
Speaker 5 (36:23):
There. He is the man, Rick honey Cut.
Speaker 4 (36:24):
Tim.
Speaker 5 (36:25):
We'll send it back to you in the studio, all.
Speaker 1 (36:27):
Right, Thank you, David.
Speaker 3 (36:27):
Great to hear from Rick Honeycut, the pitching coach for
Clayton Kershaw beginning of his big league career in many years,
before passing it off to Mark Pryor Great to hear
from Honeyleet, you have to first pitch Dodgers and Mariners
from Seattle. Up next will break down this pitching match up.

Tim, thanks again, beautiful day for Clayton Kershaw's final regular
season start. It'll be a packed house at T Mobile
Park to see Kershaw off today. Ten and two, the
record two hundred and twenty two career wins, ninety six losses,
his batting average against throughout his career just two eleven.
The lefty who was an MVP three times Cy Young Winner,
(39:43):
will face Bryce Miller, the right hander five and four,
making his eighteenth start.
Speaker 2 (39:47):
Yeah, how about Bryce Miller. He's four and five and
he's going to be that other guy that's pitching against
Clayton Kersham. We've had some numbers that will pass along
during the game itself on Clayton Kersham. But it's really incredible.
You look at how about the fact that in his
great career, three hundred and one qualities starts that he
has been able to make. So you know, this is
(40:08):
going to be an emotional day. And it's not just
Dodger fans. We're hearing a lot of Mariners fans too, saying, hey,
we have a chance to see one of the great
pitchers of all time pitching his final start of his career.
Speaker 4 (40:20):
Yeah.
Speaker 8 (40:20):
I talked to some folks from the Mariners organization the
last couple of days. They are thrilled that Kershaw is
making his final start here and they get to be
in attendance. So Kershaw against Bryce Miller. It's the Dodgers
and the Mariners. The regular season wraps up next him.
Speaker 1 (40:35):
All right, thank you very much.
Speaker 3 (40:36):
It's Game one, sixty to two, final game of the
regular season and the final start for Clayton Kershaw. What
a career it's been, all in a Dodger uniform. Three
Cy Young Awards, a Nationallygue MVP, two World Series championships,
eleven time All Star five Era titles in this year,
becoming just the twentieth pitcher to achieve three thousand career strikeouts.
(40:59):
Clayton Kershaw also holds numerous Dodger franchise records, including the
team's all time strikeout leader, and he does it one
more time today for the Dodgers in Seattle, taking on
the Mariners on this Sunday afternoon. First pitch is next.
