Speaker 2 (00:32):
You gotta do what I do if you won't my spot.
Welcome to Dodgers on tack.

Speaker 6 (00:38):
Now your host walking you up the first pitch, Tim Kashi, everybody.

Speaker 5 (00:43):
And welcome into Morongo Casino. Dodgers on deck. Hope you're
enjoying your weekend.

Speaker 1 (00:48):
Your world champion Los Angeles Dodgers have certainly not enjoyed
this East Coast road trip. After getting swept in Pittsburgh,
the Dodgers dropped the series opener to the Baltimore Orioles
last night, so they sit at seventy eight and.

Speaker 5 (01:01):
Sixty three on this season.

Speaker 1 (01:03):
Fortunately, the Padres keep losing two, so the Dodgers with
twenty one games, remaining first place at top the NL West,
two games up on the Padres. The Dodgers certainly in
a rut right now, winless in the month is September.
But now new day, new game and a chance to
turn things around. With the stopper on the mount, Yoshinobu
Yamamoto goes for the Dodgers first pitch schedule for four

(01:25):
h five Between then and now, we got a lot
to get to here on Moroco Casino, Dodgers on deck.
You're gonna hear from the Dodger manager Dave Roberts will
dive deeper into this pitching matchup. David Veassei in about
forty five minutes is going to go one on one
with Steve Garvey. Yes, a lot of talk about cal
Ripkin in his twenty one to thirty one consecutive games played.

Speaker 6 (01:44):
Well.

Speaker 1 (01:44):
The National League iron Man is Steve Garvey. Yes, Dodger legend,
Steve Garvey. You'll hear from him. Coming up in forty
five minutes, we got your Dodgers' magical moment. Shortly, we'll
hear from Kirsten Watson. In just a few minutes, we
will check in with Tim Nevertt and Rick Monday out
at the Gallpin Motors broadcast, so last night he came
in yard show hey Otani would get the start after
Tyler Glassaw was a late scratch because of a sore back.

(02:06):
Otani took the mound and went out and put up
zeros three and two thirds, three hitch, five strikeouts. The
bullpen had it the rest of the way. However, the
very next inning, Anthony Bonda had some control issues a
walk to Jackson Holiday. A few batters later, a wild
pitch would score a run and the Orioles led one
to nothing. Fortunately, that lead didn't last long. The Dodgers offense,
which has been lack luster on this road trip, got

(02:26):
a jolt from Freddy.

Speaker 7 (02:28):
Orioles won Dodgers. Nothing ends still in the game, Freddy
Freeman swings HiT's a high drive center field. Going back
is cowser to the wall and it's gone. On the
first pitch of the top of the sixth that think,
Freddy Freeman hits a home run the dead center field,
his nineteenth of the year, and that tires the game

(02:50):
at one.

Speaker 1 (02:51):
Lead off home run from Freddy on the first pitch
he saw in the game tied at one and remained
tied as Casparius Trier trying in Kopek all put up
Zeros in relief. Unfortunately, the Dodgers' offense put up Zeros
as well. They couldn't get anything going. The only real
threat at two out double for Mookie Bets in the seventh,
but he was stranded. Dodgers and Orioles tied at one
going to the top of the ninth. Dodgers win in order.

(03:12):
Bottom of the ninth belonged to Tanner Scott. He got
a strikeout of the first two batters, then he was
ahead one to two on Samuel Bassollo when he made
a critical mistake.

Speaker 7 (03:22):
Dodger reliever ready to go the left handers one twos,
one on and hammered deep right center field and the
Orioles walk off. The Dodgers are one two pitch and
Bosio hits his second home run.

Speaker 3 (03:39):
And it's a two to one Orioles win.

Speaker 1 (03:43):
Can you all believe this walk off home run from
bosioh Orioles beat the Dodgers two to one. Tanner Scotti
is eighth blown save of the season. Dodgers dropped their
fourth in a row. It's September sixth, and the Dodgers
are winless.

Speaker 5 (03:56):
So far in the month.

Speaker 1 (03:57):
Thankfully, though, the Podgers, as we mentioned, keep on losing
two So the Dodgers remained two games up with twenty
one to play, and they give the ball to the stopper,
Yoshinobu Yamamoto.

Speaker 5 (04:06):
He has stopped the old Dodgers.

Speaker 1 (04:07):
Last two three game losing streak, this one of four
game losing streak. Yama on the mound from Baltimore. First
pitch set for four five and with more we head
out to the gapin Motors Broadcast booth as we say
hello to Tim Nevert and Rick Monday.

Speaker 7 (04:19):
Guys, Tim, thank you very much. We're getting ready for
the start of this one here in Baltimore. Game two
of a three game sent obviously last night, the Dodgers,
very disappointed with the two to one loss, walked off
in the bottom of the ninth with two outs and
two strikes on Samuel Basaio, who hit his first home
run at Camden Yards in his second major league home run.

(04:41):
Today is a new day, Tonight, It's a new night.
Trevor Rodgers, who has been exceptional for the Orioles, is
eight and two with a one three to nine earned
run average. He'll go against Yoshinobu Yamamoto, who's eleven and eight.
Yamamoto has been pitching into the seventh inning and beyond
more often than not lately, So oh, that's the pitching matchup. Meantime,

(05:02):
the Dodgers maintain a two game edge over the Padres
in the division. The Padres losing again yesterday to the Rockies,
but the Dodgers trying to get back in the wind
column after losing four straight. So the news today plenty
of it to tell you about Dalton Rushing. First and
foremost is going on the injured list. He has been

(05:22):
placed there. So the Dodgers have called up triple A
catcher Chucky Robinson, formerly with the Angels, and Robinson is active.
He will not start, though Ben Rortvett gets the start behind.

Speaker 8 (05:34):
The plate and for Dalton Rushing fouled the ball off
the inside of his right shin last night of the ballgame,
and he went down. He was in an extreme amount
of discomfort. Did talk to him briefly on the bus
last night. He went on the bus with crutches, had
to hop back a couple of rows in order.

Speaker 4 (05:49):
To set down.

Speaker 8 (05:50):
He did say right off the bat nothing was broken
at least with the initial X rays, but it's going
to be a number of days before he can really
kind of move around. That does not just diss paid
all of a sudden, but the Dodgers need to have
one thing dissipate, and that's a lot of goose eggs
up on the board. Freddie Freeman said last night. He says, Heyler,
there's no sugar coating this. This is an exact quote.

(06:11):
He says, we need to figure this out, and figure
this out very quickly. And then Dave Roberts is talking about, Look,
we've not been able to string hits together. They haven't
been able to put crooked numbers up on the scoreboard.
He says it's not for lack of effort. He said,
we're trying. We're just not getting it done right now.

Speaker 7 (06:26):
They're stranding a lot of base runners. They've had some
basis loaded situations and games the last few games and
have come up empty in those situations. And it's not
a case I don't think that you can say, well,
how do you change that? Well, obviously get a hit.
Well how do you get the hits?

Speaker 8 (06:40):
Yeah, well you can't hit three run home runs with
the bases empty. The top of the order has not
been doing anything. You brought up a number earlier this
afternoon about the top of the order in the first
any particular. There's been a lot of goose eggs on
that end of it. There's no finger pointing it comes
down to, and especially tonight, a guy with a low
eer just one point three nine. I think you have

(07:00):
to think small ball. You're hoping there's going to be
a low scoring affair, so don't be trying to hit
that three run home run. Get some base runners on base,
and then Dodgers need some more thoughtful hits and make
good contact when the game's on the line.

Speaker 7 (07:14):
Yeah, that number, we're talking about five straight games now
where the one, two, three hitters, regardless of who they are,
have gone down in order in the first inning. So
in the first inning the Dodgers have had three up,
three down in five straight.

Speaker 8 (07:28):
Yeah, and ineffective hitting it. If we look at it,
Dodgers have dropped six to the last seven into lost column.
If we look at the numbers the last seven games,
the Dodgers have hit runners in scoring position just one
seventy eight. Once the opposing team's done. In those seven games,
they've hit three thirteen. That's a big, big disparity.

Speaker 7 (07:46):
Tonight, the Orioles are honoring Cal Ripken Junior. This is
the anniversary thirty years ago tonight that he broke Lou
Garrigg's record and became the iron Man of baseball. He
would finish with two six hundred thirty two straight before
voluntarily stepping off the field on the twentieth of September

(08:07):
nineteen ninety eight, took himself out of the lineup. But
it is a big deal here in Baltimore. Cal Ripkin
will be here as well as a number of his
former teammates. But one of the most incredible accomplishments ever
in baseball being honored tonight.

Speaker 8 (08:19):
Yeah, And I think, really the celebration, I look at
it from a big scope. I think it's a celebration
for baseball itself because it is just absolutely iconic with
all the pressures and then the physical demands you have
day in and day out to be able to accomplish
that unbelievable.

Speaker 7 (08:35):
So the Dodgers and the Orioles Game two of this
three game set, just around the corner.

Speaker 1 (08:40):
Tim all right, thank you guys, as we call you
down to first pitch. Dodger fans, what are you doing
for dinner? Well, late afternoon snack, get your game day
meal on a Shaky's Pizza parlor, or are your Shaky's Pizza,
Chicken and Mojo's do it right now at Shakys dot com.
Coming up here on Moroco Causino Dodgers on Deck, You're
gonna hear from the manager himself, Dave Roberts. You're gonna
hear from Steve Garvey, the Iron Man of the Dodgers.

(09:00):
Coming up in about forty minutes. We'll dive deeper into
this pitching matchup. But up next your Otani re Ryan
and we visit with Kirsten Watson from Sports in at LA.
That's all coming up as we lead you up to
Dodgers and Orioles from Baltimore.

Speaker 5 (09:11):
Thanks for being with us.

Speaker 1 (09:12):
I'm Tim kas Is, the world champion Los Angeles Dodgers
Audio Network.

Speaker 6 (09:18):
This is Morongo Casino Dodgers Hunts on your home for
LA Dodgers Baseball.

Speaker 1 (09:26):
Morongo Casino Dodgers on Deck continues on this Saturday as
we lead you up to Dodgers and the Orioles. Yoshinobu Yamamoto,
Trevor Rodgers. The pitching matchup. First pitch from Canon Yards schedule.

Speaker 2 (09:37):
For four O five. This is the Otani re.

Speaker 7 (09:41):
One one two swing and a miss strike three, ball
in the dirt. Otani got him with a slider, and
that is the third strike up for Otani and the
ball game two. That's file that's gonna come back into
fair territory. Otani tags her, well, what a play. The
ball was hit in foul ground up. The first base
chalk line had had some English on it, and it

(10:02):
spun back in fair territorial. Tony timed it out exceptionally well.
He picked it up and tagged him in the same
motion for the out. Working out of the full wind
up with a runner at third, one two pitch swelling
on it, miss strike three, beautiful.

Speaker 1 (10:17):
Sweeper show hey o Tani the pitcher three and two
thirds shutout innings, three hits, five punch outs through seventy
pitches before exiting as the pitcher show Hey O Toni.
The design edit inter zero for three and a walk
as the Orioles walked off the Dodgers last night two
to one.

Speaker 2 (10:33):
This is Kirston's corner with Kirston Watson.

Speaker 1 (10:38):
And Karson Now Joins from Baltimore brought to buy cars
for kids.

Speaker 5 (10:41):
Ready to donate that old car?

Speaker 1 (10:42):
Call eight seven to seven cars for kids right now
Finley agents standing by to take your donation. That's cars
with the K to donate your car today. The Dodgers
getting hit by the injury bug. Tyler Glass now flies
home because of the back issue. But Dalton Rushing go
into the I l Yeah.

Speaker 9 (11:00):
So for Dalton Rushing, we saw him have to be
carried off of the field yesterday after taking a foul
ball that he hid off of his shin. And honestly,
when I was talking to him, he was telling me
immediately he said that his toes mint numb. He was,
of course thinking worst case scenario, thought he had broken
a bone and obviously couldn't bear any weight on his leg.
Even after the game, after he had an X ray,

(11:20):
the X ray came back negative. He still was on
fretches leaving the stadium here. So for him, he had
a CT scan this morning. As much as the CT
scan came back negative, due to the location of where
this bone bruises, and it's a deep bone bruise, and
so due to this location, in his position of having
a squad and put a lot of pressure and weight
on his shins, on his calfs, things like that. It

(11:42):
makes it very challenging. The swelling has gone down a
little bit compared to last night. He showed me a
picture and it truly had like blown up on his leg.
But the swelling hunt's gone down. It's kind of moved
more to his knee right now, so it is in
a sleeve. But just because of the demands of being
in a squad position bearing the weight on his legs,
he just he tried to movement earlier today and ultimately

(12:05):
it's just the pain is too much and it's going
to be more of a pain tolerant.

Speaker 2 (12:08):
Situation another day.

Speaker 1 (12:09):
And I feels like I'm asking you the same question,
but this team has lost four in a row. Are
you seeing any signs of life, any sense of urgency
from this team?

Speaker 9 (12:18):
Yeah, no, you absolutely see it. It's frustrating all of
the guys, and honestly, it's getting to the point where
when you ask them, they're just kind of like they
don't have an answer. You know, they don't know what's
going on. When you look at the pitching yesterday, the
pitching was excellent, Yes We did see Tanner Scott give
up that walk off home run, but even if you
look at how how the stuff was playing, it was
that one pitch that he had in which ultimately their

(12:40):
hitter was able to get the best of him. So
right now it's just a matter of how do they
bring it all together. There have been a lot of
conversations that have been had, whether it's been in hitters meetings,
whether it's been as a group as a whole, whether
it's been on the pitching side, and it's just truly
been a reminder of you guys, know who you are.
You know how much talent there is amongst this group.
Yes they're without a lot of key guys, but ultimately
there is still the talent. There's still the death in

(13:02):
this organization, and now it's time for them just to
show up and do their jobs. And it's one thing
at a time. You're not talking to Alex call and
he was saying that you have to approach it, whether
it's one pitch, one at bat, just one moment, take
it step by step. So hopefully they can do that
tonight and kind of reset the tone. We did come
to the stadium on a boat, a water taxi because
all the roads are closed here in Baltimore today due

(13:24):
to a bike race. And I don't know, it was
really fun. Guys were laughing. I saw some smiles who
knew Freddie Freeman does not like boats, not a big
fan of the water taxi, but he got through it.
And I just think this could be something small that
maybe just sparks a little joy for the group. We
know that's been a big word of what they want
to hopefully see.

Speaker 1 (13:40):
Change up the routine. Let's see if it's the changes
for the good. Curiously we appreciate it.

Speaker 5 (13:44):
We'll check you with you after the game.

Speaker 1 (13:45):
Still they come here on Wrongo Causino Dodgers on Deck.
We'll dive deeper into this pitching matchup. David Vesey goes
one on one with Steve Garvey. But up next we'll
get you an injury report and we hear from the
manager himself, Dave roberts All leading you on to Dodgers
and Oriels from Baltimore of Tim Cases.

Speaker 5 (13:59):
The world champion Los Angeles Dodgers. Audio notwork.

Speaker 6 (14:04):
This is Marongo Casino Dodgers on deck on your home
for the blue all season law.

Speaker 5 (14:12):
From Law Marongo casino.

Speaker 1 (14:15):
Dodgers on Deck continues as we lead you up to
the first bench.

Speaker 5 (14:17):
It's the Dodgers and the Orioles.

Speaker 1 (14:19):
Marongo Casino Resort and spot a Grand Slam for good times.

Speaker 2 (14:25):
It's the LA Dodgers.

Speaker 1 (14:28):
Injury report presented by UCLA Healthy Official medical partner of
the Los Angeles Dodgers. Dalton rushing CT scan showed no
fracture a bone bruise, but he has been placed on
the injured list. Dodgers are calling up Chucky Robinson as
a backup catcher from Oka. See Tyler Glass now flew
back to Los Angeles to be seen by a doctor

(14:49):
Dave Roberts, saying the prognosis comes out good and that
he had played catch and is penciled in to be
back in the rotation as soon as possible. So that
is good news. We'll hear from Dave Roberts coming up
in just a second. Alex Vessi on the I L
with the oblique injury. He pitched two perfect innings, struck
out two of the three batters he faced on his
latest rehab assignment in OKC. He is expected to join

(15:10):
the Dodgers. Coming up next, homestand Tommy Edmond on the
I L at the inkle injury. Max Munsey on the
I L at the right oblique injury. He is in
Triple A Oklahoma City. A lot of Dodgers in OKC
right now working their way back. Brock Stewart on the IL.
No timeline for him, he is still not thrown with
that right shoulder inflammation. Rookie Sasaki on the I L
with the right shoulder in pingjament, making his fourth rehab

(15:31):
appearance with the Dodgers Triple A team just a couple
of days ago. All right, let's head back out to
Baltimore and check in with the Dodger skipper.

Speaker 3 (15:39):
Anything else with.

Speaker 2 (15:41):
Questions for Dave?

Speaker 4 (15:42):
Dave? Can you just describe Dave?

Speaker 3 (15:44):
Can you talk about the pressure in.

Speaker 2 (15:47):
The dugouts with Dave Roberts.

Speaker 4 (15:50):
So we're gonna get on a call here shortly and
with the o's and their guys and the meteorologists and
we'll figure it out. But yeah, there's supposed to be
some pop up showers throughout, so doesn't look too promising,
but as far as kind of a clean game with weather,
but we'll see.

Speaker 9 (16:09):
How do you manage to someone like Yoshi Nobu in
a situation like that though.

Speaker 4 (16:13):
Yeah, so I think that it's the start stop. You know,
it's tough for both guys for all starting pitch for
most parts. So I think just trying to get a
definitive time to start window. You know, he needs probably
about an hour. Rogers I think needs an hour to
get ready. So as far as kind of getting that
hour heads up, but I think, you know, right now,

(16:35):
until you know, call it six o'clock. I think Yoshi's fine,
but when he starts kind of cranking up at around
six fifteen, that's when you've got to kind of be
definitive with the catching situation.

Speaker 9 (16:49):
We So with Dalton, he said that the SIHI scan
came back negative, just the bone bruise there. How much
time do you suspect this could keep him down?

Speaker 2 (16:57):
And are you expecting to be making a roster move Well.

Speaker 4 (17:00):
With Dalton, I think what we're gonna do is we're
gonna put him on the A L and we're going
to activate Chuckie Robinson. Uh so we'll still have three catchers.
And you know, Dalton tried to give it a go
a little bit today move around, but it's just, uh,
this is going to be a three, four, five day situation,
So to get him on the ie L to cover

(17:22):
our bases just makes sense.

Speaker 10 (17:25):
How words will Smith at today at the end of he.

Speaker 4 (17:27):
Tried doing anything more than I think today he was
supposed to swing a bat. Haven't heard grip strength is
much better. Don't see him playing tomorrow, but I could
see him being available off the bench tomorrow though in
a pinch hitting spot.

Speaker 8 (17:49):
Gamesmanshippers that actual use.

Speaker 4 (17:53):
No, I think that's of use games some ship I
would have said he was available to hit tonight, so
but I do believe they'll be ready to hit tomorrow.

Speaker 5 (18:01):
Offense is struggling.

Speaker 11 (18:02):
How much more difficult does that get without having Will
or Dalton, either your normal catchers back there?

Speaker 4 (18:09):
Yeah, it's it's yeah. I mean it makes it certainly
when you when you don't have your all star catcher,
but you got to make do and and I don't know,
I just think it's kind of I still like our club,
love our club, and Will we'll be back. He'll be fine.
But I feel good about the guys we got tonight with.

Speaker 9 (18:28):
The injuries, the offense of peace and then not being
able to kind of figure things right right out right now,
have you found just kind of having to have a
conversation with the group, just reminding them of who they
are and kind of knowing that you know, you have
the skill, you have the talent, you have the players
who are available now, which is kind of turn time
to turn things on.

Speaker 4 (18:48):
Yeah. Yeah, I think there's conversations that that we're had
that I think that we're we're all on the same page,
you know, getting our guys to kind of just get
a little reset. So we've had conversations, so we're I
think we're in a good spot now. It's Chucky here, Chuck,

(19:11):
he's here. He's floating around somewhere getting the signs and
all that stuff, but Chucky is here. Yeah, ready to
go those conversations. I don't know, we'll see. I mean,
I don't know. I don't want to get into anything.
I really don't.

Speaker 7 (19:30):
Any update on how Tyler's doing.

Speaker 4 (19:34):
Tyler had a good day today, went and saw the
docks back in Los Angeles and nothing came of it.
So I think we dodged a bullet and he was
playing catch today, so we expect to pencil him in soon.

(19:54):
I'm just not sure exactly which day, but we dodged
the bullet, So we feel good about that yesterday. Correct,
if you.

Speaker 5 (20:02):
Expect me to try to play tonight, is there anentation that.

Speaker 10 (20:05):
Have almost just like go tomorrow when you don't have
to worry about the weather and you can try to
you know, don't have to like navigate Yoshi.

Speaker 9 (20:13):
And that kind of stuff.

Speaker 4 (20:14):
You know what I think it's it's actually it doesn't
really matter what we think on this side. I think
it's more of the o's and major League Baseball. So
you know, whatever they tell us that we'll adhere to do.

Speaker 9 (20:26):
Someone like show her he is comfortable war in a
PitchCom and then make a call by himself for the
Yoshi probably hasn't like who's gonna wear the pitch com
and make a call tonight?

Speaker 4 (20:40):
Yeah, it'll be Uh, it'll be Ben the catcher, and
he's in the pitchers meeting. But Yoshi always obviously has
the right to change the pitch if he chooses or
choose the pitch. But yeah, I don't think he's gonna
be waring to PitchCom.

Speaker 11 (20:58):
Though he's the Loki's next step he contained to it's
a minery or low.

Speaker 4 (21:05):
To uh he is throwing again for the OKAC team
early next week. I think it's a Monday or Tuesday. Monday,
I think, and then he's gonna fly to La So
I think he's going to make another starting Okay, see
yes for the Oka see.

Speaker 11 (21:26):
Team, thank you, excation for a next outing on.

Speaker 4 (21:30):
The expectation, I don't know the amount of innings. I
would assume that it's six and ninety given that we
completed five innings, so if we can get into the
sixth inning. But again, I think the main thing for
Rokie is just you know, performance, you know, increasing his

(21:55):
velocity and command and just pitching. Well, you know, we're
in a playoff race and so you know he's got
to you know, continue to raise his level, you know,
to be here.

Speaker 10 (22:10):
That's when you pitched again yesterday.

Speaker 4 (22:12):
Is he ready to join you, guys, Alec Alex to
join us Monday?

Speaker 10 (22:19):
When you talk about conversations with the hitting guys, like
what's the balance between going to the group and trying
to like get through the specific message versus also you know,
like kind of letting guys figure out on their own,
like how.

Speaker 2 (22:31):
To work through what they're working through and to kind
of find the right approach for them.

Speaker 10 (22:35):
That's so kind of it's what you guys poking to
see what better.

Speaker 12 (22:38):
Being a kind of s that.

Speaker 4 (22:39):
Yeah, I think I think there's I think where my
role comes in is there's an approach part, a mental part.
I think that you know, right now, it seems like
guys are trying being a little too careful not try

(23:00):
trying to be perfect and not trying to fail, and
that kind of mindset doesn't bode well, you know, when
you're trying to not make a mistake or be perfect, right.
So I think that having the right approach process and
kind of give them by the freedom to fail essentially

(23:20):
and just go be themselves. And I think that those
are things that the conversations that I've had with the
guys as far as given them the freedom to just
kind of play freely and with that, you know, the
hope is that you're going to see some more smiles
and some more sunflower seeds and then with the energy.

(23:41):
So I think that that's kind of you know, there's
a balance between urgency and focus and being too tight, right,
So it's like just trying to find that fine balance
where I do think that with the conversation that we've
all had, we found that.

Speaker 1 (23:59):
Balance there's the manager, Dave Roberts talking to the media
just a moment ago. Dodgers and Orioles from Baltimore. First
pitch schedule for four oh five, but it looks like
they're gonna push back first pitch about fifteen minutes. Pregame ceremony,
weather blowing through, tartcall coming off the field. But just
to be safe, make sure this game gets into entirety,
they're gonna push back first pitch just about fifteen minutes.
But we're leading you up to first pitch from Baltimore.

(24:20):
Up next, we'll hear from David Vassay, our Dodger insiders.
I'm Tim Kates's the world champion Los Angeles Dodgers Audio Network.

Speaker 6 (24:29):
As we were saying yes, is Marongo Casino Dodgers on
deck on the official home of La Dodgers Baseball.

Speaker 1 (24:38):
It's a Dodgers and the Orioles, Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Trevor Rogers
the pitching match up. They're gonna push back first pitch
about fifteen minutes. Tarpa is coming off the field. Pregame
ceremony for cal ripping coming up. But first pitch now
scheduled for about four to.

Speaker 2 (24:50):
Twenty, joining Tim Kats on Dodgers on deck.

Speaker 3 (24:55):
I accept everybody for who they are.

Speaker 2 (24:57):
This is Dodger insider David.

Speaker 5 (25:00):
Right, DV.

Speaker 1 (25:01):
This catching situation, it's gone from great to who are
these guys?

Speaker 3 (25:06):
Yeah, you're right. I mean, this is where the Dodgers
are at.

Speaker 11 (25:09):
This is something that you don't see very often, especially
when one of your best hitters is your all star catcher.
And you know, the Dodgers brought in Chris Okie, a
veteran catcher, to spring training. He was the guy that
played for Team USA's premiere sixteen. He caught veterans like
Rich Hill, Mike Sooshi. As the manager, Dodgers third base

(25:30):
coach Dino Ebole and advisor to Andrew Freeman. Ron Rennick
was on the staff as well, and they recommended to
the Dodgers to sign Oki and have him at Oklahoma
City and to be maybe their third or fourth catcher
in the organization. And this would be a perfect time
to have ok be called up. The unfortunate part is

(25:51):
Chris Oki was hit by a pitch in his face
a couple of weeks ago and just had no surgery,
so he's unavailable in that that's the reason why the
Dodgers have had to go to this kid, Chris Robinson
to be called up and be the backup catcher to
Ben Rourtvitt for the Dodgers today. This would be an

(26:12):
ideal spot for Chris ok to be able to be
making his Dodger debut in a regular season game. Unfortunately,
it's not working out that way.

Speaker 1 (26:22):
David has brought to you by Ford. If there's time,
there's always time to see Ford in a new light.
Freddie Freeman feels like the time's running out on the
Dodgers with twenty one games to go. Is Freddy Freeman
starting to feel it?

Speaker 11 (26:32):
Dave Well, if you remember, Freddie Freeman was the one
that told us a couple of weeks ago that the
Dodgers have changed the dynamics of their hitters meetings, where
the coaches are actually having the players be accountable to
each other, having them speak first in the hitters meetings
about what their approach is going to be. But after
last night's game, it doesn't sound like Freddie Freeman had

(26:54):
answers for the rest of the group.

Speaker 13 (26:56):
Going into every game, we feel confident and good and
then I'm I mean, I figured he I was gonna
get talked to after this game, and I was trying
to come up with some answers, and sometimes you just
don't have the right answers. I really, I'm just not
gonna sit here and give some cliches. We were just
not playing very good. Our pitching was great tonight. Offensively,
we were not good. So there's no sugar cutting this.

(27:19):
We need to figure this out and figure this out quick.

Speaker 11 (27:21):
And it sounded like Dave Roberts had enough as well,
because he seemed to have indicated he had a team
meeting something that Miguel Rojas was talking about after the
last game in Pittsburgh, and it sounded like tim from
what we just heard from Dave Roberts, that he had
a message for the hitters.

Speaker 1 (27:40):
Dave, we appreciate it. Great stuff. We will check back
in with you in just a couple of minutes, Dodger fans,
Dave's gonna go one on one with Steve Garvey, Yes,
the iron Man for the Dodgers, the legend himself. Cal
Rip can get celebrated for his streak, no doubt about it,
a streak that will never be broken in baseball for
consecutive games played. But Steve Garvey's got the national league record.
You'll hear from gar coming up in just a little bit. Still,

(28:01):
they come here on Mari Marongo Casino Dodgers on deck.
We'll dive deeper into this pitching matchup up next to
your Dodgers Magical Moment. I'm Tim Keats's the world champion
Los Angeles Dodgers Audio Network.

Speaker 6 (28:15):
This is Morongo Casino Dodgers Hunting game on your home
for LA Dodgers Baseball.

Speaker 1 (28:27):
It's the Dodgers and the Orioles from Orioles Parking, Camden Yards,
Yoshinobu Yamamoto and Trevor Rodgers.

Speaker 5 (28:33):
The pitching matchup. First pitch coming up?

Speaker 6 (28:40):
Who wants the hot It's time for the Haffe Magical Moment.
Ditch Magical presented by Hawfey Hot Tails. July seventeenth, twenty
twenty three. Dodgers in Baltimore taking on the Orioles. Dodgers
were down four to two in the sixth inning when
the bases were loaded for Chris Taylor.

Speaker 7 (29:00):
I mean, if he hits it straight to the left
center field gap, he's got three bases easily.

Speaker 3 (29:07):
That's how much run they're giving you. Oh two swung hot.
It is to the left center field gap inteep. That
ball's not going to be caught.

Speaker 4 (29:14):
It is gone.

Speaker 14 (29:17):
A Grand Slam for Chris Taylor gives the Dodgers the
lead six to four, his sixth career Grand Slam as
he hammers it into the oriol bullpen. Chris Taylor, with
two outs, turns this game around in the sixth the night.

Speaker 5 (29:37):
CT three with the Grand Slam.

Speaker 1 (29:40):
Dodgers with five runs in the six come back and
beat the Orioles six to four on that July night
in twenty twenty three. This Hoffey magical moment brought to
you by Hofey hot Dogs. So Cow's a local treasure
for nearly one hundred years. Haffy hot Dogs, local and
so great. Will we continue here? Al Morongo Cansino Dodgers
on deck. We will check with Rick Monday. So you

(30:01):
lead you up to first pitch. Dodgers and Orioles on
this Saturday. I'm Tim kas Is the world champion Los
Angeles Dodgers Audio Network.

Speaker 6 (30:11):
This is Marongo Casino Dodgers on tap on your home
for the blue All season long.

Speaker 1 (30:22):
Dodgers and Orioles. Yoshinobu Yamamoo and Trevor Rodgers. The pitching
matchup first pitch schedule for four oh five will not
start on time. We will start in a weather delay,
but not a long one, about fifteen minutes before first
pitch is thrown after the schedule start time before all
five time. Now for the Verizon startup is we're a
little bit more than forty five minutes away from the
start of the game. Now, Verizon, you can lock in

(30:43):
your low price for three years so you can save big.
Visit the Verizon store today.

Speaker 6 (30:48):
And now joined by David Maas saying, here's La Dodgers
broadcaster and World Series champion Dodger Rick Monday.

Speaker 11 (30:57):
Rick, it's a special day in Baltimore as they are
honoring the Ironman himself, cal Ripkin Junior, thirty years ago
today broke Lou Garrett's record. And I know you respect
Cal Ripton Junior quite a bit.

Speaker 8 (31:10):
Well, the fact that he was able to play. In fact,
they put up on the building up beyond the right
field the two to one, three one, two thirty one
games iron Man. Indeed, it's going to be neat to
see that. To me, it's like a celebration of Baseball. David, Yes,
the individual did it, but it kind of shows what
teamwork is like. And for a guy to show up

(31:32):
and you know every day is it. Look, you can
not only pencil his name in, you could ink his
name in for over two thousand games. And yeah, it's
going to be a special moment here. It is a
special moment because during the game they are going to
have a ceremony. We'll have one before the game as well.
But this has been kind of an odd day for
us anyway, something unusual. Now I've been around Major League

(31:53):
Baseball for more than just a minute or two something.
Today in getting the ballpark, I've never experienced in my
entire life, nor has anyone else. Because the Big Bike Race,
there are fifteen different countries that are competing.

Speaker 4 (32:09):
There was a women's division.

Speaker 8 (32:11):
Early this morning. The men's division was taking place as
the Dodgers are going to be leaving three different opportunities
to get to the stadium. But what we did we
had to leave the hotel and go on the dock
and take a water taxi. All the streets were closed
in the area where we are staying. Took the water
taxi about a mile and a half to where the

(32:32):
bus was going to pick us up. And as we
got to the dock, the last water shuttle, the water taxi,
it began to pour. So it was a mad dash
to try and get to the bus. But the unusual
way to get to the stadium. Today, the streets will
be opened up, will be on the buses back to
the hotel tonight. In the meantime, the Dodgers, I think

(32:53):
it behooves them to win a ballgame.

Speaker 3 (32:55):
No doubt.

Speaker 11 (32:56):
And you're leaving out the headline, you're bearing the headline
of the water taxi rig Who was your special guest
that was traveling with you from point A to point B?

Speaker 8 (33:06):
Yeah, and he was taking videos along with the rest
of his show. Hey Otani was on the water taxi
with us, Tim Neverett and jose and Crusie were there,
so it was Yeah, it was kind of a neat deal.
And we actually had a patrol, a police patrol boat
that went along with us, so it was kind of unusual.

(33:27):
So yeah, so it's one of those things. It'll really
be something if if we do a get this game
in on time, which is scheduled to be and b
if the Dodgers walk away with a happy bus ride
back to the hotel tonight.

Speaker 11 (33:41):
Well, it feels like they're do I mean, how many
games can they lose in a row to last place teams?
I guarantee to win today, Rick on Dodger Talk last night,
so they better deliver.

Speaker 8 (33:51):
Well, I like that because sometimes you just have to
go ahead and make a statement. And hopefully that's going
to be the case. But having lost six of seven, David,
they have scored just one run or less in four
of those games. They've been shut out twice, and they've
got to hit better. And for Yashinobo Yamamoto doing to

(34:13):
get the start tonight and hopefully you can pick up
his twelfth victory. He's allowed just a one ninety nine
batting average against, but they're against really a tough guy
in Trevor Rodgers. The left hander is fifteen start. Well,
you look at eight and two, that's not bad to
begin with. How about a one thirty nine earned rent
average so far.

Speaker 3 (34:30):
Yeah, he's been pretty good this year.

Speaker 11 (34:32):
He was a disappointment after they acquired him last season,
but he got it going now and hopefully the Dodgers
can find some hits.

Speaker 3 (34:40):
Rick, thanks a lot, and what a day for you.

Speaker 11 (34:42):
What a day to begin taking a water TAXI was
show Hao Tani to the ballpark.

Speaker 8 (34:47):
Yeah, we just need a faster water skier behind. This year,
they were in slow motion. No wake zones, Hey, Tim Kates.

Speaker 11 (34:55):
We're gonna check in with Rick Monday and Tim Nevert
a little bit later. No water to needed, We'll send
it back to you, all right.

Speaker 1 (35:02):
Thank you DV, Thank you Moe again. This game will
not start on time, about a fifteen minute delay. That
is the Dodger game plan, brought to you by the
California Community Colleges. Financial aids available to help you with tuition, books,
and yeah sometimes even the rent time to take that
next big step. Classes can fill up quickly, So on
roll today and I can go to college dot Com.
Coming up here on Morongo Casino, Dodgers on deck. We
will go high and tight with Steve Garvey, the Dodgers

(35:25):
iron Man, as they honored Cal Ripkin in Baltimore for
the longest consecutive game streak in all of baseball. Steve
Garvey holds the national league record. We'll hear from the
Dodger legend.

Speaker 5 (35:35):
Coming up next.

Speaker 1 (35:36):
I'm Tim Kass, the world champion Los Angeles Dodgers Audio Network.

Speaker 6 (35:42):
As we were saying yes, is Marongo Casino Dodgers on
deck on the official home of La Dodgers Baseball.

Speaker 1 (35:53):
Dodgers and Orioles. On this Saturday and night Game two
of this three game set. Yoshinobu Yamamoto yet again asked
to be this operas the Dodgers writing a four game
losing streak. Dodgers Baseball, brought to by Shakey's Pizza Parler,
the official pizza partner of the Dodgers Audio Broadcast. Whin
It's game Night, It's group night at Shaky's dot Com.

Speaker 6 (36:11):
David and now what will likely be vast fielding insults
from a Dodger player.

Speaker 5 (36:17):
It's an engagement of endearment.

Speaker 6 (36:18):
This is high and tight.

Speaker 11 (36:20):
Well, Tim, We are joined by a man that is
the Dodgers Iron Horse. Today in Baltimore, they are celebrating
Major League Baseball's Cal Ripkin Junior breaking lou Geggs all
time consecutive game played streak. But many people failed to
realize that our very own Steve Garvey played one thousand,

(36:41):
two hundred and seven straight games. That is the fourth
longest behind Ripkin and Garrick in Major League baseball history.

Speaker 3 (36:50):
And ironically, it was fifty years ago on Thursday that.

Speaker 11 (36:55):
Steve Garvey's consecutive game played streak started in eighteen seventy five,
and what do you know, Steve Garvey is on the
line right now with us an all time Dodger icon. Garv,
thank you so much for the time, and what a
pleasure it is to have you on this type of day.

Speaker 12 (37:15):
Well, thanks, David. You know how much I think of
you and your contributions to the game and the Dodgers
and the fans, and you know, the streak was something
that I've always taken a lot of personal pride in.
You know, people say what are your greatest accomplishments, and
I say, well, if you play a team sport, it's
winning a world championship. And of course eighty one was

(37:39):
that final piece of what I call the Golden Era
of Dodger baseball from about seventy three to eighty five.
And during that period, you know, once I switched in
third base to first base and started to get traction,
and then the streak started. And I've always thought, you know,

(38:00):
the world championship team sport ultimate, but for an individual player,
as streak becomes a commitment, and when you realize we
play for the love of the game and for obviously
a great organization like Los Angeles. And then when I
went to San Diego, where yeah, the streak ended. And

(38:21):
but for the fans. You know, and I've always said,
when you if a family from Bakersfield could only go
to one game and they came to CEV play, if
I set out with a stomach ache or a little
headache or a little full you know, I wouldn't be
much of a professional. I wouldn't be doing that. What
you should do, and that's go out there, take the
field and do the very best you can because you're

(38:44):
there for the entertainment of fans.

Speaker 11 (38:47):
That's part of the reason why even to this day,
grown men wear number six Dodger jerseys to Dodger Stadium.
And I'm just curious when you're in the streak, Garv,
when it hits around number like one, are you more
aware of it?

Speaker 3 (39:03):
I mean, you had all the right.

Speaker 11 (39:05):
Intentions, but once it gets to one thousand consecutive games,
are you more aware of it?

Speaker 12 (39:11):
Well, David, really, it starts before that. Excuse me, about
five hundred games Major lee baseball starts to starts to log.
You know, five hundred and then seven hundred seems to
be another magical number. I know Pete Rose had two
seven hundred game streaks, which people don't don't think of

(39:33):
Pete in those terms. They think more in hits. But
that's where you know, Pete and Billy Williams, who's number
I broke for the Nation League record, And lou gerrig was,
you know, one of my idols, and I started researching
once it was you know, it was four years and
then five and the times where I probably could have

(39:56):
set out, I had migraine, headaches and airline fracture of
my finger and hyper extended elbow and flu and you
know challenges, you know with your family illness, maybe the
kids and so forth. But you have this unwavering commitment
and not necessarily to the streak, which is an evolution,

(40:20):
but to going out every day to perform, because you
need to earn it. You know, at every sport you
got to earn the right to start and be part
of the team, but to be a leader and show leadership.
Even on those days where you're not one hundred percent,
you're still going out there, and adrenaline's amazing you know

(40:40):
a lot of times, you know, I was on the
edge of can I really do the job, you know,
in the field, and a bat and adrenaline started to
kick in that this is how I got a sacrifice.
And I would go out and I think twice, especially
with mi grain headaches, I would start the game and
first at bat, I'd hit the ball in the at

(41:00):
and both times I end up at third base and
one time standing up, one time sliding. And then the
stadium tire started swirling around, and Bill Beuler, the trainer,
would come out and say, come on, you tried, you know,
but you're you're not gonna make it. You can't even
run the home plate. And I'd look at him and
I'd nod my head. But then you mentioned a thousand.

(41:24):
I remember. It is a great picture and I'm not
sure one of our fabulous photographers took it, but they
made the announcement just before the game started the first pitch,
and I was at first and you see me with
my hat off and my arm up for the fans,
and I think it was a giveaway picture. They did
the next home stand and then as time goes on,

(41:47):
you just, you know, you just keep going and if
you can go out there, you do. And then of
course that that faithful play at the plate in San
Diego is when it ended. But you just say your prayers,
You thank God you had a chance to go out
every day. It took me, gosh, probably about uh two
or three months for that to heal. Mister rest rest

(42:07):
of the season, and then started another streak.

Speaker 3 (42:10):
How long did that one go?

Speaker 12 (42:11):
I think we got over two hundred, maybe almost three
inner games on that one, you know. But again, it
wasn't I wasn't going out there with the idea of
putting a streak together, because anything can happen, and like
I said, so many things during that seven and a
half years, you know, both physically and with illness and
so forth, that it probably could have set out, but

(42:32):
that passion just to go out and play every day.
And I know Cal very well, and we've we've talked
many times about streaks, and we both agree it started
by wanting to play every inning of every game each
year for the fans and for the love of the game.
And uh, and then you put in God's hands because
a couple of times I slid and I could feel

(42:54):
my shin starting to bend a little bit, oh no,
and I would pop out of it, you know, and
kind of shake my leg and go on from there.
But and I'm not so sure how anybody can can
break my nationally record, because you know, guys nowadays are
managed in terms of you know, they talk about load

(43:17):
management and maybe a week, maybe two weeks, maybe fifteen days,
and then they get a day off. And I was
kidding yesterday Billy and Russell. I if we would have
gone into Tommy Listser at his office and said, Tommy,
we want to talk about, you know, our load management,
he would have stood up and said, you get your
load out there and I'll tell you when you can

(43:38):
sit at it. We never would, you know, we would
never do that. But you know, the talking in terms
of sitting out you know, back then you never thought
of it. And by the way, the infield greatest in
the history of Ron and Davy and Billy and myself.
We average over one hundred and forty games between the

(43:58):
four of us. So that's pretty amazing right there. That
shows the passion the guy said for the Dodger fans
in baseball.

Speaker 11 (44:07):
A special team, a special group of infielders, and a
should be Hall of famer Steve Garvey, who still holds
the National League record of playing one thousand, two hundred
and seven consecutive games, a lot of it wearing a
Dodger uniform. Before I let you go, Garv, let's bring
this all full circle. Your commitment to playing every day,

(44:29):
whether you were hurt, whether you had migraines. Does it
come back to your upbringing? Because we all know the
great story and still gives me chills when I hear
you tell it, your father, Joe being a Greyhound bus driver.
I find it hard to believe that Joe Garvey ever
missed a day of work. Is that where it came from?

Speaker 12 (44:49):
That's right? And Mellie Garvey, Yeah, you know, two hard
working parents. I was an only child, but mom took
two busses to work, you know, she was a secretary,
and two busses home, and Dad drove through out the
state of California and Greyhound And then you know, it
was March I think twenty seventh or eighth of nineteen
fifty six. He came home. He said, do you want
to skip school tomorrow? And I said, gosh, why Daddy?

(45:11):
He said, well, I have a charter to pick up
the Brooklyn Dodgers at the Tampa Airport and take them
to Saint Petersburg to play the Yankees in the exhibition game.
Of course, for Dodger historians, that was the spring after
they won their first World championship in fifty five against
the Yankees, And that next day I got a chance
to bat boy. And for seven eight years after that,

(45:32):
two or three times the spring I would sit next
to Hodges and Ferrillo and Snyder and Kofax and Drysdale
and listen to them talk about their commitment to the game.
So not only did I have two parents who gave
me a great work ethic, but I got a chance
to go up with my idols, and with those idols,
I learned about the commitment to the fans and to

(45:53):
the franchise in a personal The honorability, so to speak,
of knowing that you set your goals for the sake
of other people drive you. And I think that's that
whole recipe. There has been the foundation for my life.

Speaker 11 (46:14):
Steve Garvey's mark in Major League Baseball is a huge
mark in so many different ways, not only playing twelve
hundred and seven consecutive games, not only being the only
right in All Star and winning an All Star MVP.
Not only being a guy that when it mattered the
most in October hit three point thirty eight. His mark

(46:35):
needs to be recognized in Baseball's Hall of Fame. And
hopefully this is the year, but Garv, if it happens,
if it doesn't happen, as long as I am here,
and as long as people know about the Dodgers, they
will know how great Steve Garvey was and number six
forever will be associated with you. And you are still

(46:58):
such a treasure to this organization. And thank you for
being so gracious with your time and still delivering for
the fans.

Speaker 12 (47:06):
We thank you, my son, and all the fans.

Speaker 5 (47:09):
Thank you so much.

Speaker 12 (47:10):
And when you see me at the stadium wherever you know,
and happens every day of every week, people come up.
And that's the blessing I have with fans knowing that
you know they can come up to me and I'm
the guy they expect to be, and the memories we have.

Speaker 11 (47:24):
I want to get my red, white and blue wristbands
right now and host Dodger Talk after the game with
those wristbands on now, Garf, and.

Speaker 12 (47:32):
You still have that Dodger Dodger Fan Club certificates.

Speaker 11 (47:36):
I know you, yeah, the Blue Crew Fanclub, Yeah, no doubt,
the Kalite.

Speaker 8 (47:43):
Yeah.

Speaker 12 (47:44):
Good.

Speaker 3 (47:45):
We love you, Garf, Thank you for the time.

Speaker 9 (47:47):
Love you too.

Speaker 12 (47:48):
Okay, season, there you go.

Speaker 11 (47:50):
Steve Garvey one of the all time greats, not only
in Dodger history but baseball history.

Speaker 1 (47:56):
All Right, thank you, David, Thank you Garvey, the great
Steve Garvey. Right, they're great to hear from that Dodger legend.

Speaker 5 (48:01):
Again.

Speaker 1 (48:02):
First pitch will not be at four to h five,
looking at about a fifteen minute delay because of weather blowing.

Speaker 5 (48:06):
Through the Baltimore area.

Speaker 1 (48:07):
When we come back, though, we'll dive deeper this pitching matchup.
Don't go anywhere. I'm Tim Kase at the World champion

first pitch, Dodgers and the Orioles from Baltimore coming up.

Speaker 5 (48:33):
We'll get you the keys to the game, Bud.

Speaker 6 (48:35):
First, and now, before the Dodgers hit the dining we
look at the pitching matchup.

Trevor Rodgers have made it look easy this year, eight
and two at the one thirty nine ERA. The twenty
seven year old left hander in his sixth season now
in the Big League's former first round pick of the
Mark Orlands, he was traded to the Oriols of the
deadline last year. Making his fifteen start last time out,

(49:04):
he earned a win against the Giants. In fact, he
was good in the month of August. He was the
American League Pitcher of the Month. He went four and
well with a one twenty nine ERA and forty one
strikeouts and six starts. He's faced the Dodgers once in
his career July fifth, twenty twenty one, did not factor
in that decision. Yoshinobu Yama mode on the mountd for
the Dodgers eleven and eight to eighty two ERA. Twenty

(49:24):
seven year old right hitter, making his twenty seven start
last time out, seven innings, won run for hits ten
strikeouts in a win over the Diamondbacks. He's become the
stopper and the Dodgers needed to stop this losing streak
today in his first ever start against the Orioles Dodgers
and Oh's first pitch from Baltimore's coming up keys of
the game are next. I'm Tim kas Is the world
