their last twenty down the stretch. The Dodgers' offense flex
their muscles really all season long. Five different guys with
twenty plus home runs, including Andy Paez and tay Oscar Hernandez.

home run number fifty.

Speaker 5 (02:36):
Five, showtime in Seattle. Oh Tani with us fifty fifth
of the year, hit it to slight left center and
the Dodgers now with a five nothing lead, four hundred
and twelve feet on the home run by Otani.

Speaker 2 (02:58):
Show Hey, Otani with fifty five home runs this season,
the final one coming on Sunday in Seattle. That is
the top tier play of the game, brought to you
by RCO quality, top tier guys for Let's show hey
with the fifty five home runs one hundred and two
RBI Freddie Freeman, mister consistent two ninety five average, twenty
four home runs ninety RBI Freddy with thirty nine doubles

(03:19):
this season, now tied with Manny Ramirez for thirty fourth
on the all time doubles list in Major League Baseball.
How about the Dodgers pitching staff this season, held together
by Yoshinobu Yamamoto and Clayton Kershaw. Yama with thirty starts,
two hundred and one strikeouts of two forty nine r ray.
Clayton Kershaw, the thirty seven year old soon to be

(03:41):
Hall of Famer, twenty two starts a three thirty six RRAY.
He had an August that was well equally as good
as he's ever had, five to zero and five stars
with a one eighty eight ERRA. The thirty seven year
old past three thousand strikeouts. This season show Hey Otani
pitch for the first time in a Dodgers unit. He
was slow played out though the second half of the season.

(04:03):
But how about Blake Snell. We get to see him tonight.
He missed four months with a shoulder injury. Since his
return in August, he's been fantastic.

Speaker 7 (04:13):
Two on two out, two balls in two strikes, pitch
one twelve from Blake Snell.

Speaker 2 (04:22):
Strike three swinging Blake Snell.

Speaker 1 (04:26):
You nasty.

Speaker 2 (04:31):
Twelve strikeouts, seven shutout innings. Blake Snell back to back
games double digit strikeouts, that one just two weeks ago
against the Phillies. And here we go, a healthy Dodger rotation,
a loaded lineup, and a team hungry to repeat his
World Series chants. Tonight, game one of the National League
Wildcard Series, Blake Snell, Hunter and Green to pitching matchup,

(04:52):
first pitch and six oh wait, and with more we
head over to the Gallpin Motors broadcast booth as we
welcome in Steven Nelson and Rick Monday, guys, Tim Cats.

Speaker 7 (05:01):
It is a glorious evening for baseball because it's postseason
baseball here at Dodgers Stadium. Not quite October Monday, still
just the thirtieth of September, but the most wonderful time
of the baseball season, the biggest stage of them all
October and the Dodgers in Reds going at it on
the postseason stage, somewhat reminiscent of the nineteen seventies, but

(05:23):
these are different teams. The Dodgers are the heavyweights, and
it's no longer the big Red Machine. It is the
sixth seed Cincinnati Reds under Terry Francona, trying to upset
the baseball world over the next few days.

Speaker 8 (05:36):
But they're here. And give respect to the Cincinnati Rams,
I mean, the one eight of the last eleven to
get into October baseball, and if you start to look
at what they've been able to do, it's rather amazing
because they came out of nowhere, basically to qualify for
the Dodgers. This is really kind of rolling out expectations.
This is the fortieth different time the Dodgers in their

(05:59):
franchise history had gone to postseason play, and hopefully they
can run the tables. There's a lot of water under
that bridge, and the Dodgers have to stay really focused
and stay on that bridge. And I think if you're
looking at postseason played, the first thing is to realize
as a player, you can't do things that you had
not been doing. Continue to do that and take little steps.

(06:20):
You can't be constantly diving off the deep end of
the pool without checking to see if there's enough water.

Speaker 7 (06:24):
Yeah, that's an excellent point. I'm curious your overall thoughts
because I'm sure most Dodger fans were not locked in
on the National League Central certainly not locked in on
the Cincinnati Reds because they were the three seed and
when they came to Dodgers Stadium in August they got swept.
It has been a much different team the six weeks
following that sweep here at Dodger Stadium. And the things
that I think most people know on the surface, the

(06:47):
Reds can pitch and with Terry Frankcone at the helm.
He is inspired this. They can't kill us. That's their
team mantra attitude. They want to embody cockroaches on the field.
So give me your overarching thoughts as we get ready for.

Speaker 8 (07:00):
Yeah, I think that to really kind of hiss the
nail on the head because this is a ball club.
Forget the fact that Dodgers took five out of six
against the Reds, and they had a very good series
also against their starter Hunter Green the last time they
were here. That's in the past. The numbers in the
past are not going to win a ball game tonight.
Do not undersell the Cincinnati Reds. They can also put

(07:23):
the ball into play. They run the bases very well.
They also have some speed, and if you make a mistake,
I don't care who it is. In postseason play, you
don't have a whole lot of time to recoil and
write the ship that I'll just have to go ahead
and do the things that they know how to do.
They won five consecutive games that close out the season.
Eight of the last ten were also in the win column.

(07:44):
That's a nice start. But now it gets for real.

Speaker 7 (07:48):
Twenty twenty five Wildcard series, Blake Snell against Hunter Green.
Will break down that pitching matchup and get a couple
of keys from Ote next time we visit from you, Tim, all.

Speaker 2 (07:58):
Right, thank you guys. Excited for first pitch coming up,
Dodgers and the Cincinnati Reds. It's game one of the
National League Wildcard Series. Dodger Stadium is starting to fill up.
A buzz here at the ravine as we count you
down the first pitch. Dodger fans getting that game named
me a lot of Shaky's Pizza parlors. Yeah, you can
order Shaky's Pizza, Chicken and Mojo's right now and Shakys

throughout the hour. That's all coming up as we lead
you up to first pitch on this Tuesday night, Dodgers
and Reds, thanks for being with us. I'm Tim kas Is,

Speaker 2 (08:53):
It's the Dodgers and the Cincinnati Reds the National League
Wildcard Series. Game one coming up. Blake Spell Hunter Green
the bitchy match up. First pitch set for six eight.

Speaker 1 (09:05):
This is Kirston's Corner with Kirston Watson.

Speaker 2 (09:09):
Hey, Kirston out Joints is brought to you by Cars

call at eight seven seven Cars for Kids right now
Findley Agents standing by to take your donations. That's Cars
with a K to donate your car today. Here we
are Kirston. Game one of the wild Card Round. Dodgers
had to workout last night. They finished the regular season
really strong, winners of five in a row, fifteen of

(09:29):
their last twenty. Hopefully this momentum carries into this series tonight.

Speaker 1 (09:33):
Yeah.

Speaker 9 (09:33):
I think that's the key when you look at how
this group is able to close out the regular season.
They're playing complete baseball games. We saw excellent just starts
from the starting rotation. Yes, in that final series, things
were a little bit limited as they were preparing for
whether it was the bullpen or just how things were
going to look in this wild Card series, but we
just saw guys regaining their confidence. Blake China when he

(09:53):
spoke to the media when the team was in Seattle,
he was talking about how he's just felt there's a
different level of focus right now, and how they were
able to close out one of the games in Seattle
with nine consecutive strikeouts from the bullpen. Those are the
moments you want to build off of. So now they
come into this one, everyone's in a really good spot.
You've got guys who are battling some injuries here and there,
So whether that was Max Munsey, Tommy Edmund and the

(10:16):
ankle Will Smith in his hand, all three of those
guys are on this wild Card Series roster. So that's
a good step for them. They kind of just feel,
I'm talking to the guys, I feel like this team
is complete and they're in a really good spot not
only hopefully pick up the win today, but to win
this series and move forward through the postseason.

Speaker 2 (10:34):
And they got blakesnew on the mound tonight, right guy
right plays right time.

Speaker 9 (10:38):
Yeah, absolutely for Blakes. Now, Yes, he was battled with
some injury this season, and so when you look at
since he's come off the il, he really has been excellent.
Maybe there was that one start after his second child
was born, in which, of course you're not sleeping much
kind of getting back on track, the velocity was down
just to tick, but since that he has been lights out.
So for him to be the guide to take the
ball in Game one, of course, for him, it means

(11:00):
a lot. He's obviously facing a team in the Reds
in which just so happens the last time that he
faced them he threw a no hitter.

Speaker 5 (11:07):
Why not?

Speaker 9 (11:07):
Why not that be the guy? He did say that
this is obviously a different matchup, Yes, similar players, but
different situation things like that. But for him, it's just
that matter of setting the tone early. He feels really good.
He of course wants to try to get deep into
this game. That's what he's been doing, being able to
go six or more in his last three outings. So
if he can continue with that, then obviously that takes

(11:28):
some pressure off the bullpen and hopefully the guys can
give him the run support to put him in a
position to find some success and hopefully a win in
this game.

Speaker 2 (11:35):
Won going back to this team in the moments if
you were down on the field early or have been
around this team yesterday and today, do you get the film?
And they're pretty confident. They feel pretty good going into
this game. The mindset of this team overall.

Speaker 9 (11:46):
I think they feel confident but not cocky, and I
think that is the key when you have a group
you know, yes, they've been in situations like this before,
technically they're more used to, you know, having that bye week,
so without having one day off to kind of lock
back in. They saw with this approach and with this
mindset talking to Baille Rojas about this yesterday, they've been
feeling this way. It's not just the four weeks of October.

(12:08):
It was the six weeks at the final two of
the regular season and moving in. So they're kind of
already in that postseason frame mind frame right now. So
they feel really good. But they also recognize they're going
to be facing some very good starting pitching from the Reds.
That's a young group. Of course, they're familiar with Gavin
Lux he's gotten hot as of late, so it's a
young talent. Yes, they're gonna have to find ways to

(12:29):
get to their starting pitching, but they also feel that
you know we've seen them before. We feel confident within
ourselves and they can have just the support of the fans,
home field advantage, lean into that. It's about getting things
going early. So they feel confident, but they don't feel coffee.
They recognize they're going to be playing a competitor who
you know, there's no fear on that side. They are
riding high. They've gotten into the postseason and weren't necessarily

(12:51):
expected to be in the wild card, and so you
know they're not going to play afraid. And I think
that does bring a different factor, in a different energy,
and so I do think it's gonna be a fun series.
It's not gonna be an easy series, but hopefully we'll
be seeing the Dodgers walking away from this one and
heading to Philadelphia.

Speaker 2 (13:07):
Hopefully it's a short series.

Speaker 9 (13:09):
Now, that is what I'm talking about. All right, let's
do it in two.

Speaker 2 (13:12):
Let me check in with you in just a little
check you with you after the game is still to
come here on Rogo Casino, Dodgers on deck, David Vezego's
one on one with Freddy Freeman. We'll get your manager
Dave Roberts next, get his pregame thoughts. Before this Wildcard Series.
Dodgers in Red, Game one coming up at six oh eight.
I'm Tim Katsey is the world champion Los Angeles Dodgers
Audio Network.

Speaker 1 (13:33):
This is Marongo Casino Dodgers on Deck. I'm your home
for the Blue all season long.

Speaker 2 (13:44):
It's the Dodgers and the Cincinnati Red, says Marongo Casino.
Dodgers on Deck continues leading you up to first pitch.
So the game one of the National League Wildcard Series,
Maronggo Casino Resort and Spa a Grand Slam for good
times coming up. We're gonna hear from Freddie Freeman as
we lead you up to first pitch. So first let's
check in with the Dodgers.

Speaker 1 (14:05):
Gepper questions for Dave.

Speaker 10 (14:09):
Dave, can you just describe Dave?

Speaker 1 (14:11):
Can you talk about the pressure in the dugouts with Dave.

Speaker 9 (14:15):
Roberts Ers When you look at the roster construction, what
led just to the decision to carry eleven pictures and
fifteen position players, you.

Speaker 4 (14:24):
Know, after much deliberation, I think kind of looking at
the short series, looking at having a couple uh starters
as far as Sheehan and Glass in the pen, feeling
good about covering the innings and then you're looking at

(14:44):
you know, Months coming off some lower body stuff, Tommy
coming off the ankle, and you know, Will feeling like
he can be viable in a pinch hit spot, potentially
catch coming into a game. So all those variables led
us to the extra position player and kind of how
we you know, constructed those that position player group.

Speaker 9 (15:06):
You mentioned both Max Munsey and Tommy Edmund. I know
yesterday both of them are able to get some at
batts and Max has been on the field things like that,
But how are you feeling just with them battling coming
back from those injuries and being back out there.

Speaker 4 (15:18):
I feel good, feel good. Both guys took a handful
of at batch yesterday. They both came out of it well,
feeling good, encouraged, and so there's a lot of ways
that we can kind of simulate at bats which they've done,
and then also with the at bats that they took yesterday.
So I feel good with where we're at and kind
of the options that I'll have off the bench to

(15:41):
mister he'll up.

Speaker 10 (15:42):
From Skibert k K nine, Jim Hill, what is the
what's the mindset of you and your club right now?
As you the defending champions, and everyone is predicting good
things for you. Again, what are the pitfalls that are
out there that you have to be aware of?

Speaker 4 (15:59):
I think the pitfalls are just kind of easing your
way into a series. The certainly a very short series. Yeah,
And I don't see that as a problem. You know,
a pitfall is facing Hunter Green. He's got a good arm,
a really great competitor. But I do feel that just

(16:22):
having the one day off is a benefit to us offensively.
I don't know how that's going to play out tonight
or tomorrow, but I think mentally, you know, as a
roster all that stuff, we're in a good spot.

Speaker 11 (16:37):
All right.

Speaker 2 (16:37):
There's the manager, Dave Roberts in his pregame thoughts. And
as the roster is set and the Dodgers are ready,
you go here in the Wildcard round of the National
League's opening round of the postseason. Will we continue here
a Moroco Casino, Dodgers on deck. We all check out
with the David Vazek. He's the very latest, including how's
Will Smith's feeling?

Speaker 8 (16:58):
Really?

Speaker 2 (16:58):
How was he feeling after a couple of days off
in a stint on the il with the wrist injury.
We'll continue here. I'm Rock with Casino Dodgers on Deck
live from Dodger Stadium leading up to first pitch Dodgers
and Reds. I'm Tim Kas's world champion Los Angeles Dodgers
Audio Network.

Speaker 1 (17:15):
As we were saying, this is Marongo Casino Dodgers on
deck on the official home of La Dodgers Baseball.

Speaker 2 (17:26):
It's the Dodgers and the Cincinnati Reds, Game one of
the National League Wild Card Series. Blake Snell, Hunter Green
the bitching matchup, first pitch coming up in.

Speaker 1 (17:33):
Six O eight, Joining Tim Kats on Dodgers on Deck.

Speaker 6 (17:38):
I accept everybody for who they are.

Speaker 1 (17:40):
This is Dodger insider David Bassi.

Speaker 2 (17:44):
All right, dB tonight, Blake Snell gets to start in
Game one, and the way he's been pitching as of late,
he's the right guy to be on the mountain tonight.

Speaker 6 (17:53):
No doubt. He is really looking forward to this opportunity. Tim.
He has felt like everybody was hoping for Yamamoto, hoping
for Otani and completely overlooked him.

Speaker 11 (18:10):
And to really challenge myself personally faces That's what I've
always wanted, So uh, I've been more excited again in the.

Speaker 6 (18:21):
Position that was Blake Snell yesterday during the workout, and
the one thing I know him and Dave Roberts are
on the same page. Expect Dave Roberts to push Blake
Snell as deep as he can go tonight so he
can shorten the game and then from there go to
Alex Vesia, maybe Amichean for a couple of innings. But

(18:42):
he's got some options down there with Tyler Glassnell and
Emit Shean to come in after Blake Snell.

Speaker 2 (18:49):
David is brought you by Ford. If there's any time
to see Ford is right now? Is he Ford in
a new light? Will Smith the hand injury off the
foul tip a couple of weeks ago, David, He's on
the twenty sixth, so I'm assuming he's good to go.
What's the latest?

Speaker 5 (19:04):
Yeah.

Speaker 6 (19:04):
Last night, coming into the workout, the Dodgers were not
sure whether or not Will Smith would be able to
be on this wildcard roster. But after watching him take
live pitching from guys like Bobby Miller and Kyle Hurt
and his hand not feeling the effects of it. No
swelling last night, no swelling this morning, the Dodgers felt

(19:26):
that they can give it a go with Will Smith.
Here's what Andrew Freeman had to say earlier today.

Speaker 12 (19:31):
Yeah, you know, I think as far as being an
option off the bench to hit, it all came down
to very simple, like as the bone in his hand
healed or not. And you know, last week had a
hard time gripping things, and that progressively got better and
so got to a good place where the bone had healed.

(19:55):
Now it's about getting strength back, and then once you
do that, then it's about throwing. And we were able
to keep his legs going, but he hasn't had that
throwing volume in a little while, and so now we
have to continue to kind of progressively layer that on.
But as far as him in the batter's box, if
there's a big spot, we all felt really good about

(20:16):
betting on Unwill.

Speaker 6 (20:19):
So translation, Tim, you're not going to see Will Smith
catching this series, maybe if it's a do or die
Game three, but you will see him, and the Dodgers
are hopeful that he'll be ready to go for Game
one of the NLDS if the Dodgers advanced to face
the Phillies.

Speaker 2 (20:35):
All right, David, great stuff. We'll check back in with
you in just a couple of minutes. Don't forget. David
Basse goes one on one with Freddy Freeman. That's coming
up in about fifteen minutes. As we walk you up
to first pitch here on this Tuesday night, it's Game
one of the wild Card Round, Dodgers and the Cincinnati Reds.
Blake Snell on the mound, first pitch coming up at
six oz. Wait when we come back, we'll get you

(20:56):
your Dodgers magical moment. Don't go anywhere. I'm Tim Katsis.
It's the world champion Los Angeles Dodgers Audio Network.

Speaker 1 (21:08):
This is Morongo Casino Dodgers Hunting game on your home
for La Dodgers Baseball.

Speaker 2 (21:16):
It's the Dodgers and the Reds, Game one of the
National League Wildcard Series. Blake Snell goes for the Dodgers,
already making his way out to the bullpen to get
loose as his hunter Green, the pride of Notre Dame
High School in Sherman, Oaks. He is making his way
down the right field line into the visiting bullpen to
start getting warmed up. Game one, coming up, first pitch
at six o' eight.

Speaker 1 (21:40):
Who wants It's time for the hawfy Magical Moment Pitch
Magical presented by Hawby Hot Dogs.

Speaker 2 (21:50):
Well the Dodgers taking on the Reds. We go back
to August twenty fifth of this year, right here at
Dodgers Stadium, Dodgers facing the Reds. Image Sheen was on
the mound. He went seven, allowed just two hits while
striking out a career high ten. You got plenty of
offensive help as well. Andy Pai has went deep, not once,
but twice.

Speaker 5 (22:10):
So he's at second and here's Andy Piez responsible for
the loan run tonight with a homer to left and
then he swings.

Speaker 6 (22:17):
The first pitch, prizes it deep.

Speaker 5 (22:18):
To left again.

Speaker 6 (22:19):
That one's toward the corner. It's gonna be gone. It
has gone.

Speaker 5 (22:23):
Another home run for Andy Piz, a two run shot
hit it to the left of the Dodger bullpen. It
is three to nothing Los Angeles, a multi homer night
for Andy Pis.

Speaker 2 (22:38):
Andy pie Haz goes deep as the Dodgers go on
to shut out the Cincinnati Reds seven to nothing. Image
Sheen went the seven shutout innings. Hunter Green was on
the mound that night here at Dodger Stadium. Back in August.
He went five. Indians and gave him five runs on
six hits, including a pair of home runs to Andy
Pajes as the Dodgers got the seven nothing to win.

(23:00):
This Hofey Magical moment brought to by Hafey hot Dogs,
Haffee soakows Local Treasure for nearly one hundred years offfee,

Speaker 1 (23:56):
And now joined by David Basse, Here's La Dodgers Broadcast
and World Series Champion Dodger Rick Monday Rick.

Speaker 6 (24:05):
Game one of the postseason tonight, and we got a
great pitching matchup blake'snew against the local kid Hunter Green.

Speaker 8 (24:12):
Yeah, this is you know what you look forward to
a postseason. You know, somebody asked me earlier today, he says, well,
don't you get spoiled going to the postseason all the time.
And my answer immediately was, heck, no, you don't get spoiled.
And forget what the Marquis value says about well Cincinnati,
you know, do they have the high numbers? No, forget that.

(24:32):
Put that to side. As you mentioned, you know, Hunter
Green's going for Cincinnati, the local guy out of Notre
Dame High School in Sherman Oaks, and then Blake Snow
going for the Dodgers. Anything can happen, and especially now
we're not only with different animal and postseason play. This
is two out of the best three. And if you

(24:52):
blink a couple of times and don't play, well, you're home.
You're watching everybody else play.

Speaker 6 (24:57):
You've been in this position before your teams went to
the postseason with the Dodgers numerous times. The Dodgers are
the defending World Series champions. They have the experience outside
of Gavin Lux. Not a lot of postseason experience on
the Red side.

Speaker 8 (25:11):
Yeah, and you know what, the defending world champions get you,
and with the postseason history that they have right now,
get you zero runs right now as a bat in
the first inning. So yeah, yeah, this is one of
those things. Stay very concentrated on what you're trying to do.
They've got a good scot report on Green And do
not take the Cincinnati Reds lightly at all. First of all,

(25:31):
they have some guys that can run, and especially with
the Elie de la Cruz, he gets on Cruise is
batting down in that lineup a little bit more than
what we have seen him in the past. And forget
the fact that the Dodgers during the regular season won
five out of six games against the Cincinnati Reds. The
Reds have earned the right to be here. The Reds

(25:51):
when they play good baseball, they are as good as
anybody else in the expecting postseason. You really hope that
both teams play up to the maximum opportunities. If it is,
it's going to be one heck of a series.

Speaker 6 (26:02):
We always hear though another postseason series. Rick, how experience
is a huge advantage. Do you feel like the Dodgers
have that advantage more.

Speaker 8 (26:10):
Than experience, and it correlates to the word I'm going
to be using discipline, discipline to know that you've got
to be able to concentrate on the task at hand,
whether you're a fielder, whether you're a pitcher, whether you're
a batter, and particular if you are a base runner,
because earlier today we saw base running mistake made by Cleveland.

(26:33):
It costs them possibly the ballgame in Game one against
the Detroit Tigers. So yeah, but once you get on base,
your job is not over. And whoever feels the ball best,
throws the ball best, hits it best, and runs the
base's best is going to wind up advancing to the
next level and they're going to talk about this all
over again. It'll be a different animal and you have

(26:54):
to step it up. But right now, the whole thing
is I think if you win inning by inning at
the end of nine, if you won more innings and
put more runs in, obviously the game sounds simple, but
this is fun. This is a gut wrenching at times,
but it's also fun.

Speaker 6 (27:11):
Speaking of inexperience, the Dodgers had Ben Rourtveitt catching today,
with the injury to Will Smith limiting him to pinshitting duties,
how important is that pitcher catcher relationship today in this game.

Speaker 8 (27:23):
Oh yeah, I think it's good. And I think also
that Rotvett has done an amazing job in fitting in
with the pitching staff and being able to understand. Let
me ask you, Will Smith took live batting practice yesterday.
What was the outcome of that? And is he even
a little bit closer because evidently he is because he

(27:43):
is on the active roster. The Dodgers will start this
series technically with three catchers.

Speaker 6 (27:48):
I'll tell you this. Before last night's worked out, the
Dodgers were not optimistic that Will Smith would be part
of this roster. But after the way he swung the
bat last night and the way his hand felt, they
were immediately optimistic he would be ready for this series
as a pin shitter.

Speaker 8 (28:06):
Yeah, so he probably needs a couple more days. We'll
be able to find out what halfens. Michael Gonforto is
not on this series roster and a little bit different
to lineup including kick a Hernandez will get the start
against a right handed pitcher, that being Honey Green. So
this is kind of interesting. Edmund good enough to go
with his ankle months. He good enough to go with

(28:27):
his mysterious injury that we don't really know what the
heck it is.

Speaker 6 (28:32):
Yeah, good news, s He's in there. Good news Edmund's
in there. And October keik, this is his time of year. Rick,
all right, so is yours? Great to have you on
the playoff roster in the broadcast.

Speaker 8 (28:43):
Booth, Rick, good to see you, David. Let's have some fun.

Speaker 6 (28:46):
Let's have some fun. How could you not? Mariachi Joe
will be thrown out the first pitch in mere moments.

Speaker 8 (28:51):
Watch out for your windows.

Speaker 6 (28:53):
Send it back to you, Tim, all.

And now what will likely be vast a fielding insults
from a Dodger player.

Speaker 6 (30:11):
It's an engagement of endearment.

Speaker 1 (30:12):
This it is high and tucked.

Speaker 6 (30:15):
It is Game one of the Wildcards Series, the Dodgers
and Reds getting set for first pitch, and I'm joined
right now by a man that has been the pillar
of strength for the Dodgers, of consistency. There's one thing
you can always count on when the sun comes up,
and that's Freddie Freeman at first base. Freddie thanks a
lot for the time, appreciate it.

Speaker 10 (30:33):
Thank you, David.

Speaker 3 (30:34):
Good to be here.

Speaker 6 (30:34):
I mean, you had such an incredible October. You've always
performed in the postseason. What's it like this year for
the group having to play as quickly as you are
after Sunday's finale.

Speaker 3 (30:47):
Yeah, obviously it's a different route we took this year.
But I don't think anybody's worried about not only having
one day off and getting into it. We're excited. We
played our I think our best baseball the last past
couple of weeks. So everyone's feeling good. You know, we
had Tommy and Monts who are you know, like battling,

(31:07):
Some make some pain. So hopefully everyone's feeling good going
into today and we get off to on the right foot.

Speaker 6 (31:13):
What do you think it is? I mean, everybody was
talking about when things weren't going right for the offense,
but nobody seems to be talking about the fact that
things are going right right now for the offense.

Speaker 3 (31:24):
Yeah, I mean, I think it's just ebbs and flows
the baseball season. I think anybody who's in the clubhouse
or around the game knows you're going to go through
your ups and downs. Some of us are gonna be
hot and things go where you can just stand in
the box and whatever happens happens, and we score a
lot of runs, and sometimes you don't get the hit
with the runners with scoring position, and things just don't
go according to plan. I think that's the beauty of

(31:45):
one hundred and sixty two games schedule, because most of
the time things work themselves out. And you know, we
we at least started to get the big hits and
started scoring some runs doing the little things right at
the toward the end of the season. So once the
playoffs are here, no one really cares about the regular
season anymore. So whatever happened in the regular season, you

(32:06):
just get going and throw that away and just get
ready for the biggest month of our lives.

Speaker 6 (32:10):
Ever since you've come to the Dodgers, you've told me,
at this time of year, you just have to be
somewhat fortunate that you're swinging the bat well at the
right time.

Speaker 3 (32:19):
Yeah, I mean, I think you can. I think all
of us would say it's a lot of it, especially
this kind of style of tournament. Now it's hoops. Ever,
it's hot. I mean there, you could be as hot
as a firecracker, and then all of a sudden the
last week of the season, you feel like you're lost
in the batter's box, and unfortunately that carries over. It's
when you're facing as good as the pitching we are,
if your swing feels a little off, it's just that's

(32:41):
what happens. I mean, you saw it in twenty twenty three,
Mookie and I went one for twenty one combined. It
unfortunately happens, but luckily the next year we did all right,
and no one remembers really the twenty twenty three. But
I think as a whole, as a group, we're feeling good.
I think maybe with only a day off and we

(33:02):
get the practice on that day off, that maybe we
can just carry this over and continue the good streaks
that we've had lately, and hopefully that continues. But I
think if you once you walk in that door, and
if the situation presents yourself and there's a guy on
second base with no outs, you've got to move them over.
So you got to throw your personal stats out the window.
It's whatever you can possibly do to help win the

(33:24):
Doctors win that game that day. You got to do it.
If it's you going over four to four ground outs
to the right side, and so be it. That's what
you got to do. So it's about all all that is.
October is the name on the front, so hopefully we
can get off to the right foot, Freddy.

Speaker 6 (33:38):
One thing people don't appreciate is you took every team's
best shot this year. You usually do, but it felt
like this year, every series, every game, you took everybody's
best shot. And here you are. I mean, it feels
like you're pretty battle tested.

Speaker 3 (33:54):
Yeah, I would say so. Obviously, we've been to the playoffs.
A lot of us have been to the playoffs a lot,
so we have a lot of experience. We know how
the days are gonna go and what to expect to
sitting on the line, the national anthems, on the field,
there's a lot more things going on, so we know
how to maneuver those days. But also yes on the

(34:14):
fact that everyone wants to beat us. We won the
World Series last year. You're gonna have the target on
your back. We dealt with injuries, we dealt with our
speed bumps, and I mean, obviously we would love to
have had a first round by but it didn't happen
that year. So this year, so we got a different
little route to go. We got to give win two
more extra games in the initial eleven, so but we're

(34:34):
ready for it. Everyone's in a good spot, I think
health wise. Everyone's gonna have their little aches and pains,
but the big injuries and we don't really have that
going into the playoffs this year, which is nice. So
hopefully we can keep that at Bay and have a
nice clean start to this playoff run and hopefully we
can get off on the right foot.

Speaker 6 (34:52):
As Freddy is wiggling his right ankle right now.

Speaker 8 (34:55):
Keep it loose.

Speaker 3 (34:57):
I still gotta good treatment.

Speaker 6 (34:59):
Thanks a lot, Freddy. It's been a great year and
look forward to a great October.

Speaker 3 (35:03):
I mean too, Let's get this going, no doubt.

Speaker 6 (35:05):
Game one is right around the corner. Freddie Freeman will
be in there at first base. We'll send it back
to you, Tim, all.

Speaker 2 (35:10):
Right, thanks a lot, DV. Great to hear from Freddie Freeman.
He is ready to go and cranked up for a
big October, just like a year ago. As we lead
you up to first pitch, Dodgers and Reds, it's Game
one of the Wildcards series. We'll dive deeper into this
pitching matchup coming up next. Don't go anywhere. I'm Sim

President, about your Southern California. Toyota dealers, work hard, play

here Toyota dealer Today they make it easy. Hunter Green
on the mound for the Reds, twenty six year old
right hander, second overall pick of the twenty seventeen draft.
Fourth season now in the big leagues, made nineteen starts
during the regular season, three to one with a two

(36:14):
eighty one ERA, and eight starts since he came back
from a groin injury. Last start of the season was
against the Pirates and Paul Skeins. He went six innings,
two runs, five hits, seven strikeouts and a no decision
against the Dodgers. He's facing five times. He is one
in three with a four fifty five Erray Snell Zilla
on the Mount. Blake Snell, thirty two year old left hander,

(36:35):
five and four of two to thirty five ERA. In
the regular season, he made only eleven starts because of
his shoulder injury. His last start before the postseason six innings,
one run, five hits, five strikeouts in a no decision
against the Diamondbacks. In his last start against the Reds, well,
that was August of last year, he threw a no
hitter while striking out eleven and walking three. Blake Snell

(37:00):

first base lines as we speak, as we lead up

It's the Dodgers and Reds on this Tuesday night, Game
one of the National League Wildcard Series. Blake Snell, Hunter Green,
the pitching matchup. First pitch coming up at six oh eight.
We're just minutes away. But before that, let's head back
over to the booth one final time here from Steven
Nelson and Rick Monday, guys, TC.

Speaker 7 (37:45):
First pitch is upon us here at Dodgers Stadium. It'll
be thrown out by Blake Snell of the Dodgers, the
LA Game one starter, opposite hometown kid Hunter Green, taking
the ball for the Cincinnati Reds who on Monday night,
following the workouts for these two clubs ahead of the
Wildcard Series, Green walked out of the visiting clubhouse out
to the Dodgers Stadium mound, knelt down, said a prayer

(38:09):
to himself a couple quiet moments to himself on the mound.
He used to watch big leaguers play on when he
was coming up here as a kid, and now he
takes the ball for Cincinnati. So Frick Bunday, it's a
special one for Hunter Green, a big one for Blake Snell.
This is why he signed here. Give me a few keys.

Speaker 8 (38:25):
Well. This is a big one for both teams obviously,
and both these guys are capable of doing things. Last
time Blake Snell pitched against Cincinnati. Go back to last
year he threw a no hitter against him. Okay, that
was in the past. But if we look at Snell
September went two and one, his ERA was two and
a quarter and for a snow I mean he was
just basically in total command of how he worked the hitters.

(38:47):
That being said, on the other side, Dodgers have to
figure out ed to get to Hunter Green because here's
a guy that averages ninety nine point four miles an hour.
He's going to be into triple digits. His slider is
absolutely big tacular and if you're just only looking for
that fastball, that slider's gonna catch you by a surprise.
May catch you by a surprise anyway, Dodgers, i mentioned

(39:08):
earlier in the pregame show, need to be thinking small bites.
Don't try and get five runs with one swing. You
gonna have to take one base at a time and
try and get some runs on the board early.

Speaker 7 (39:18):
One thing for Dodger fans to be aware of for
Blake Snell in this matchup the Reds. You talked about
the last time he face them, he was with the
Giants and he threw a no hitter. Well, this year,
Cincinnati has really struggled against left handed pitching. They are
bottom five, bottom ten in all the major offensive categories
when facing lefties, and there are a few better than
Blake Snell. He will try and pitch the Dodgers to

(39:38):
a wild Card Series opening victory. It gets underway shortly
Dodgers Stadium. Let's get after it all.

Speaker 2 (39:44):
Right, first pitch his next four wild card games on
this Tuesday, Dodgers and the Reds the final one of
the day. The series gets underway. The postseason starts next.

Cardiac Cowboys

Cardiac Cowboys

The heart was always off-limits to surgeons. Cutting into it spelled instant death for the patient. That is, until a ragtag group of doctors scattered across the Midwest and Texas decided to throw out the rule book. Working in makeshift laboratories and home garages, using medical devices made from scavenged machine parts and beer tubes, these men and women invented the field of open heart surgery. Odds are, someone you know is alive because of them. So why has history left them behind? Presented by Chris Pine, CARDIAC COWBOYS tells the gripping true story behind the birth of heart surgery, and the young, Greatest Generation doctors who made it happen. For years, they competed and feuded, racing to be the first, the best, and the most prolific. Some appeared on the cover of Time Magazine, operated on kings and advised presidents. Others ended up disgraced, penniless, and convicted of felonies. Together, they ignited a revolution in medicine, and changed the world.
