Speaker 1 (00:00):
And now an exclusive interview with David Bassey for Dodger Talking.

Speaker 2 (00:06):
We're joined right now by Emitt Sheen, who has been
such a big part of the Dodgers second half. Emmett,
thanks a lot for the time, appreciate it.

Speaker 1 (00:13):
Yeah, thank you dude.

Speaker 3 (00:14):
Hey, what's this been like for you? Emmett?

Speaker 2 (00:16):
As far as just being such a big part of
the second half, Dave Roberts in spring training said you
would be the sleeper pick of the second half and
you made him look like no, stra damis thank you.

Speaker 1 (00:27):
No, It's been awesome to be able to contribute and
get some wins. Hopefully I can keep doing it.

Speaker 2 (00:33):
What's been the biggest key to why you've been able
to be so good? Is it because you've changed the
way you pitch? Is it because you're throwing the slider?
Is the slider a big reason why?

Speaker 3 (00:44):
Uh?

Speaker 1 (00:44):
Yeah? Probably probably sequencing stuff and just the way I
have been attacking hitters a little bit different for sure.
I think that goes back to Mark and Connor, the
coaches and the strength staff with getting my throw in
the right place making it easier to execute. And yeah,
for the those guys drowing off the game plan.

Speaker 2 (01:01):
I was watching you play catch as you were getting
ready for your start this weekend in Seattle. Is it
ever lost on you that you were playing catch with
a purpose with Clayton Kershaw, who obviously has kind of
been a big brother to you and a few others.

Speaker 1 (01:16):
No, definitely, not never gets lost on me. It's always
really cool to be able to do that and to
be able to spend any time I can with Kersh
and a lot of the other guys, all these other
guys in the team that have done so much in
the league.

Speaker 2 (01:28):
What was that experience like today playing catch with him?
Because he never just plays catch, He's playing catch with
a purpose, and I would assume he's demanding that from
whoever's on the other side.

Speaker 1 (01:40):
Yeah, definitely, I think I try to be locked in
every day in catch play. But it's definitely, you know
a little bit more. You want to make sure you
make a good throw to him. You don't want him
chasing the ball around or anything, or throwing it as knees.
So I think, yeah, I think every day I'm trying
to be locked in and execute during catch play. I

(02:00):
think that plays a big role in having success on
the mound. But yeah, it's really cool to be able
to play catch with him.

Speaker 3 (02:07):
How did you find out that he was retiring?

Speaker 1 (02:11):
I knew like a little bit before, but nothing like
it's for certain, So I find out when everybody else
found out pretty much.

Speaker 2 (02:19):
I know his family has been with him virtually all season,
but you you were welcome into the Kershaw rental for
about a week.

Speaker 3 (02:27):
Were you surprised?

Speaker 2 (02:28):
And what does that say about him to invite you
and young Jack Dryer to stay with him?

Speaker 1 (02:33):
It was awesome. It's it's really cool that he was,
you know, offered to do that, and I really appreciate that.
It just says so much about how good of a
person he is off the field. I think most people
know that by now, but yeah, he's just generous guy,
and it was it was really cool to be able
to do that.

Speaker 2 (02:51):
Jack told me one night, you and Jack get to
the get back home late, and he would get there
a little bit before you, but would wait up for
you guys like a dad would.

Speaker 1 (03:03):
Yeah, it was it was pretty cool. He was you know,
we were talking pitching, talking life, and it was it
was really it was something I'll probably never forget for sure.

Speaker 3 (03:13):
What'd you think about this past weekend? At Dodger Stadium.

Speaker 2 (03:16):
You've had these incredible experiences with him that not a
lot of guys have been part of his teams. But
just seeing the way the fans reacted to him this
past weekend.

Speaker 1 (03:26):
I mean, it was just it was really awesome to
see they have so much love for him, obviously, and
he's earned every bit of it. And just to see
him get his flowers. And I know he doesn't like
to make it about himself at all, but it was
it was super cool to get to see that happen.

Speaker 2 (03:41):
Emmit Sheen is our guest in front of first pitch
between the Dodgers and Diamondbacks.

Speaker 3 (03:45):
A cool scene here. I was waiting for Emmett for
a while.

Speaker 2 (03:49):
I mean, emmittt did everything that I have never seen
him do before getting ready for this start, including signing
autographs along the right.

Speaker 3 (03:57):
Field line for about twenty minutes.

Speaker 2 (03:59):
That was something inspiring that you don't see a lot
of guys do.

Speaker 1 (04:03):
I feel like a lot of guys get them ount
of guys do you got that long?

Speaker 3 (04:06):
I don't know.

Speaker 1 (04:07):
I feel bad if I see like a kid and
I signed for one and then I see another one.
I don't want to dish them.

Speaker 2 (04:12):
Yeah, I was wondering, how is this ever going to end?
There were a lot of Dodger fans pouring in.

Speaker 1 (04:16):
Yeah, sometimes you just have to do all of them,
I think.

Speaker 2 (04:19):
Yeah, but that means a lot to you, right to
sign autographs, spend time take selfies with fans.

Speaker 1 (04:24):
Yeah, absolutely. I mean I remember coming to the ballpark
as a kid and just like begging guys to give
me an autograph for a ball So it's it's cool
to be able to do that for a lot of people.

Speaker 2 (04:34):
Before I let you go, Emmett, you guys are on
the verge of clinching the NL West.

Speaker 3 (04:39):
You got the playoffs starting next week.

Speaker 2 (04:41):
You've shown that you can be nimble and adapt to
being a starter or coming out of the bullpen. How
much are you looking forward to being part of this
October in either one of those roles.

Speaker 1 (04:54):
I'm really excited. I got a little taste of the
postseason in twenty twenty three. Obviously we didn't do what
we wanted to do that year, but you know, having
missed last year and not being a part of it,
I'm I'm super excited to try to contribute and try
to get us to the to the ultimate.

Speaker 2 (05:09):
Cole with how many veteran starters you have that are
pitching so well, you're obviously pitching off the charts as well,
But are you starting to mentally prepare yourself that the
best way you can help the Dodgers win is by
coming out of the bullpen?

Speaker 1 (05:24):
Sure? I mean, I definitely think you know, I'm up
for whatever they want me to do completely, you know, anything,
So I don't care if it's you know, day, you know,
pitching back to back or long relief or starting if
I have to start. But yeah, no, I'm I'm cool
with whatever.

Speaker 3 (05:44):
Hey, thanks a lot for the time. I'm really happy
for you.

Speaker 2 (05:47):
You're one of the more genuine great guys that I've
been around with the Dodgers this season, and you're an
easy guy to root for.

Speaker 3 (05:54):
I think we all hear.

Speaker 2 (05:55):
That, we see that, and you have great spirit about yourself.
So this and do what Kurushaw does. Enjoy the burn
whenever that happens. No goggle, she.

Speaker 1 (06:06):
All right, I will.

Speaker 2 (06:06):
I appreciate it. Thanks David there, he is great guy.
